I was pushing buttons over here and forgetting what the heck I was doing. But it worked, hitting the buttons on that. Yeah. Not that. Oh, what do you mean? What do you think? This.
• 0:25
[laughs] Oh, yeah, I'm not touching this. No, this one works over here. Yeah, this is a, this is a thing where you, you touch it and it does what it's supposed to. I can't see anything. Yeah.
• 0:33
It's like Latin mass over there. Yeah, I don't... Um- When you touch me, I do what I'm supposed to do. There we go. I don't know what I'm doing. Touch me, touch me. Anyway, hey everybody, it's Full Spectrum Cycling.
• 0:43
Oh, gonna take me home tonight. Anyway, so- Hey... Yeah. Show number 310 today. The old 310. Yeah. W- with us in the studio today is Kyle Compass from Create Moto. He's our in-studio guest. That's- Cool. Glad to be here.
• 1:01
Got JK over there with the ride like a pirate shirt on. Yar. It's good for your booty. It's good for your booty. It be good for your booty. Like Steve the pirate in Dodgeball.
• 1:10
That was my, my friend Tyra did that shirt when we used to do our Full Moon beach rides. Oh, nice. Which will be resurrected, I think, this year at some point. It looked like, uh, August 9th or something like that.
• 1:21
Yeah, it is. I saw it in the show notes- It is coming... and that inspired me to- Oh, did I-... go, go into the, uh [laughs] Do I already have that on here?
• 1:28
Go into my drawers of bicycle- Oh, it's under, that's under our shit worth doing column. Yes, indeed. Uh, August 9th, Port Washington, Wisconsin, Full Moon beach ride. Yeah. So I was inspired by that.
• 1:39
Uh, and it being a long sleeve and 94% humidity out right now- Good call. Checks out... kind of like was like not the wisest of choices. I- I probably could have waited another month. I had to get [laughs] Or so.
• 1:52
I, I had to get this shirt out of my- It was an impulse... my painting shirt drawer... fashion. [laughs] Thanks. [laughs] Like- It, it's my, one of my favorite shirts. It's one of Kyle's Create Moto T-shirts.
• 2:03
I legit had a conversation last night how I don't have any of my own shirts. [laughs] 'Cause, 'cause everybody wanted to give you money and you sold them. Exactly. Right? All right.
• 2:11
I'd rather have 20 bucks than a T-shirt. [laughs] I know an alley you could make 20 bucks in. I know a studio I can make 20 bucks in, too. [laughs] Mm-hmm. Right on, right on. Yeah, that's for your, uh, OnlyFans.
• 2:23
To- toesonly.com for, uh- [laughs]... for Kyle. [laughs] Oh, that's not your- There... that's not yours yet, right? You're still trying to buy that? I'm working on it. Okay.
• 2:32
Anywho, uh, Milwaukee this past weekend, again, see, it, couple weeks ago, very busy. Week before, not so much. This weekend again, super busy. It was like- Yeah...
• 2:41
w- what in the heck is going on with, uh- And this coming weekend, it, it's not that busy. Right. Okay. And so it's, yeah, we're- Yeah... doing- Every other weekend there's something super, at least for what we're doing.
• 2:50
Right. So last week it was Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee, which again, it could not have been a better day for a cycling event. Yeah. Yeah. It was beautiful outside, just about, uh, 70 degrees and sunny. Mm-hmm.
• 3:02
And- And you don't know the route until you get there... which was interesting because I was not expecting it to go north this year.
• 3:09
Uh, same here, and it ended up being like many elements [laughs] of my like normal day commute. Right. Yeah.
• 3:15
Or like, kind of, like on a, on a zesty weekend, hey, I felt like, uh, going up to Best Place, and then I kind of meandered myself back home, and that's kind of the route, I mean- It was- Yeah... it was, yeah...
• 3:26
the direction and places that we stopped. Right. It was largely large places. Like Champions. I was like, "Oh, yeah." That was a good call, 'cause Champions could handle a decent sized crowd. Yeah.
• 3:36
And I, I think, and then I think they opened specifically for that. Oh, that's nice of them.
• 3:40
I don't think they were- To, to have, you know, 400 of your closest cycling friends come in and spend a bunch of money at your place? Yeah. Yeah, I'd open up, too. Yeah. Yeah.
• 3:47
There's one, um, Rob, Rob and Rachel from Sabbatic were behind the pine inside. I did not even make it inside.
• 3:53
[laughs] And then they're like, "Mike, Mike, Mike" and I'm like, "Jesus," you know, and like, "Are you gonna be at Sabbatic at, at seven?" And I'm like, "Uh, maybe." Which I didn't, but- [laughs] It was an option.
• 4:04
I- It was an option, but- I don't know how many observant, uh, viewers of the video on the YouTube... Hey, how's it going? Good. Hey there. Thank you for, thank you for showing up, uh, our one, our number one fan.
• 4:14
You look great out there. You look good. Uh, we replaced some art. The, we've got the, the Mark Winter, uh, I believe the piece is titled Every Clutch Album Cover Ever or something to that effect. Yep. Yep.
• 4:25
That's, uh, Theresa Waits, who is a Uptown-er regular, and, uh, this one is still here 'cause it, it's still the right height and I didn't wanna mess with the symmetry of the whole deal.
• 4:36
But, uh- One, the one here prior was not a Winter? No, no, no, no. Okay. That was, I can't- It didn't even look- I forget the guy's name.
• 4:42
I can, I'll remember it, it soon, probably when the show's over, but- It was intrusive to- Yes, it was in the-... the- It was in the, it was in the- Nice piece of art. It's called art... window.
• 4:50
But- But, but for- But it-... logistically, I kept, I kept bonking into it... it had like a pistil... and I felt bad. [laughs] A, a pistil for, what is that? Yeah. What- Like a pistil from a flower coming out of it.
• 4:59
Right. Like if, yeah, and a leaf- Yeah... and an undulating petal, you know, the leaf, it opens. Kind of play it as a lies type situation. Strongly vaginal all by odds. Yeah. [laughs] It's... [laughs] Yes.
• 5:12
Uh, so how was your derby? I, I did get the derby on video. I'm not sure if it's super great. I w- it's gonna be on, it's probably posting it, self-posting right now on- Right...
• 5:21
the book face, but, uh- If, if there weren't a couple, uh, well, a Zeigle in there, who's- [laughs]... very good at like stopping and hopping and- Yeah... has very seamless control of body and bicycle together.
• 5:34
Which is how he won the derby- And it's like, yeah... I would imagine. And then I'm just like, "Oh, Jesus." You're familiar with the foot down derby idea, Kyle? I'm familiar with foot down.
• 5:41
That's once you're the derby of it. Yeah. It's basically- It's just circling, yeah... yeah, I mean- Yeah... keep your hands on the bars, keep your feet on the pedals, and try and get other people- Yeah...
• 5:48
to put their foot on the ground, whether that's stopping in front of them or rubbing up on them or- Mm-hmm. Kicking a head tube. You can't take your foot off. Yeah. At all.
• 5:55
You can- Like- You can maybe do a wheelie into them. Yeah. You could maybe kick them. Yeah. You can do all sorts of- Skids. I did a lot of skids 'cause I was- You were doing, I was doing it with coaster brakes.
• 6:02
Coaster brake king over there. Wasn't- Which was working for a while if the, you know, the super g- supermen weren't in there. Yeah.
• 6:08
I could've gone a little bit further, but then I ended up taking out Berta- Yeah, I mean, the one- [laughs] It was like, "Oh, eh"...
• 6:15
the one thing that I think about a, a, a good Minneapolis derby versus this one is it, they got the idea, it's going well, it's fun, but instead of using the crowd to start
• 6:27
s- pushing the circle in, the people who have been taken out- Fell out, yeah... use their bikes. Oh.
• 6:33
So instead of having, like, four people take up the room of one bike, you, you just can't make the circle that small when you have bikes, so- Right...
• 6:41
it gives people more of an excuse to go faster and ram people and stuff. Yeah. Derailers are Much more violent up that way. Yes. Yeah. In the BMX world, we've...
• 6:49
First of all, if you take your feet off and kick people in the head too, I mean, that's, like, a guaranteed win. [laughs] But once you put your foot down, you leave your bike where it lies. Hmm. Oh, okay.
• 6:58
The bike becomes an obstacle at that point as well. So okay, so if you crash in the big berm turn, your, your bike's an obstacle for- It's-... for bunny hopping. Exactly. Right. Huh.
• 7:07
[laughs] I did, I didn't realize that. That's- And the rim bending... now I've learned something. [laughs] Oh, yeah. [laughs] BMX bike might be a little more durable than a fat bike. Yeah, a little, a little, yeah.
• 7:15
So we can, uh, let's, let's, uh, get a little bit of background on Kyle, 'cause obviously Kyle did BMX back in the olden times. And- I did... how was, how was... S- tell us about your cycling background.
• 7:26
Grew up in Milwaukee, south side. Grew up riding BMX. Um, worked at Lake Owen as a BMX instructor. Um, for those not familiar, it is, like, a summer camp for action sports. Okay. So
• 7:40
you can send your kid there and have instructors like myself and other horrible looking human beings, uh, teach your kids how to skate, uh, skateboard, inline, BMX, scootering to some point as well. Scootering?
• 7:55
But yeah, it's a camp with ramps. Is, where is it? Is it? That is in Lake Owen, Wisconsin. Uh- Oh, okay... it's south side of Cable. Oh, right on. Okay. Yeah. So it's a- I, I, in fact, I know where Lake Owen Lodge is.
• 8:06
It, it's, yeah, it's now not a thing anymore. Right. But it was, like, a subsidiary of Woodward- Okay... in Pennsylvania, and on Utah, they have one now too. So, uh, this was how long ago?
• 8:19
[laughs] Since you're not older than 25, 30, right? Fucking 39. Where are you getting- Dude... that from? Bro. Um, this is probably at least 10 years ago- Okay... at this point. I, that's, I would've not...
• 8:30
I didn't know about this until we talked about it some time ago, but yeah, that's interesting that it's right up there in kinda the heart of, of mountain bike country. Oh, exactly.
• 8:40
And even, even the BMX and skates, you know, up there, there was a, it's, like, two public skate parks in Hayward, like, a half hour from the actual camp itself. Right. Nice. So it's kind of a, yeah, like a sleeper
• 8:53
town of action sports and- Yeah... mountain biking, all that good stuff. Yeah. Th- there's a lot of good stuff happening up there.
• 8:59
You may, if you listen to the show, know that Seeley Dave is now in Seeley, which is not that far from Lake O- Between-... Lake Owen. Yeah, it's, like, between Cable and Hayward, isn't it? Right.
• 9:06
Yeah, exactly, where the Sawmill Saloon is. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Basically the only- Just like the song says. Yeah. It does sound like a song, though. [laughs] Well, it's the only- [laughs]...
• 9:15
it's the only place I ever eat when I'm up there pretty much, except maybe R Place right down the road, the good breakfast joint.
• 9:23
But, uh, yeah, so you did some, you did some cycling when you were younger, and then did you get into the motorcycle into stuff early too? Um, not really. The motorcycle stuff, it's always been adjacent to my life.
• 9:34
Um, my dad was always into hot rods and race cars and kinda moto stuff, and then, you know, my family as well. My uncle was always super into Harleys. I coincidentally am not into Harleys at all.
• 9:45
[laughs] Yeah, you were working on one last time I stopped by the shop, though. Yeah, I got paid for it.
• 9:48
[laughs] [laughs] Um, but yeah, over the last couple years, not, not a couple years, probably 10 to 15 years at this point as well, kinda really came around and found my corner in the motorcycle world, kinda catering to more of the neighborhood and community, um, running community shops and, you know, like, build programs, helping out my high school kids- Yeah, yeah...
• 10:11
build race bikes. That's pretty, pretty super popular. Yeah. So I've kind of found my way through that, and it's turned into Create, uh, being a community garage, and, well, a community garage for motorcycles.
• 10:21
The best way to put it when I explain it to people is a gym with, a gym for motorcycles. A, yeah, like a gym membership for your bike. Ex- exactly. So you- Yeah...
• 10:29
yep, so you get a membership, you have 24-hour access to all the tools, the equipment, the machines, and we have everything there to build any bike. And if we don't, I will get it.
• 10:38
Yeah, I, what, last time I stopped in, you were working on the Harley. The time before that, I think you were sandblasting something, or I don't know. Yeah.
• 10:44
And then I noticed you have a tire machine in the back, which is super handy. Yeah, exactly, so yeah. Yeah, so you got, like, basically a full on shop. Oh, yeah.
• 10:50
So tire machine, presses, lathes, mill, TIG and MIG welders, sand blasters, literally anything you need, um, you know, including two or three full sets of Snap-on tools for any, any standard use as well. Wow.
• 11:05
It's all right there. So mo- are, most of the people in there are, they're members of the collective, right? Correct. So they, they spend a certain amount of money, get a certain amount of space, and- Mm-hmm...
• 11:17
they get access to stuff that they might not have in their garage at home. Exactly, and especially in this neighborhood too. Not a lot of people have garages. Yeah. No. Tony burned a bunch of them down. Not our- Yeah...
• 11:27
not our old Tony, a different Tony. Oh. [laughs] I'm, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna rat him out 'cause he's- Damn... no longer with us, but, uh, yeah. So, [laughs] yeah, so it's become- Not too tough Tony.
• 11:36
[laughs] Not too tough Tony. Not talk, t- t- triple T. Yeah. Oh. [laughs] A couple different options too, membership wise.
• 11:42
So, you know, our regular membership where you come and go as you please, you can store one bike, it's just our standard membership.
• 11:49
Otherwise, you can always rent by the square foot in the shop to make a permanent spot for yourself.
• 11:54
So if you do want to build out an area or bring your own tools in, your own equipment, and not have to deal with other people moving your bikes around or, you know, having to move your bike at the end of the day, you can rent by the square foot as well.
• 12:05
So that would be either racers who are prepping their bikes and getting those ready- Exactly... or even somebody who might be, uh, doing work for their friends and making some money doing it. Exactly. Okay. Yeah.
• 12:17
If a guy just had a motorcycle and he didn't...
• 12:21
So I know originally, you were basically, you can be a member and come in, and if you don't know what you're doing, we'll have, find somebody here that does know what he's doing or she's doing, and they will help you do it.
• 12:31
Exactly. You're mostly gonna do it, though. You're gonna learn- For, yes... as, as the person bringing them up, you're gonna learn how to do it yourself, basically. Exactly. Yeah.
• 12:39
Kind of, um, a, a vulture space, kind of me- Yeah... my, my understanding. Kind of on the, on the cycling side. Yeah. Sure. Kinda, yeah. You've got an expert in there, and, and then you're doing- Right...
• 12:47
uh, but I, have you recently gotten into maybe doing a little bit more where people can just bring bikes by and have them worked on? I try to avoid that for the most part. [laughs] Can imagine.
• 12:57
But ideally, like shout-out to Brian at Skidmark Garage in Cleveland. He made a great commercial, you know, pretty much starting with, "People ask us what we do. We don't do shit." [laughs] [laughs] Like, you do it.
• 13:09
So ultimately- Oh, yeah... yes, I'll point you in the right direction. Mm-hmm. You know, for the homies and stuff, or if it's somebody stopping by, oil change, tire change,
• 13:17
you know, we'll work it out between either myself or somebody in the shop, you know, for somebody that doesn't wanna commit to a full membership or have the time to do it themselves. So we will do light work. Yeah. Cool.
• 13:27
But for the most part, yeah, always encourage people to- Yeah... fix your own shit. And learn. And learn. Yeah. And learn. Exactly. And learn, and learn what, you know, hey, then I don't have to, you know.
• 13:35
And even to the point, we have like drop-in day passes, so for 20 bucks you can come use the shop for a day, and then that's, throw tires on your bike.
• 13:42
So you get those guys doing the long way home or something coming by. Exactly. They can come by for free. For free. [laughs] They're, they're welcome.
• 13:49
So you guys, you guys are right next door to, to my shop, in the building at 3700 Fratney in Milwaukee.
• 13:56
I go by there pretty regularly, and it's almost always from, you know, there's almost always somebody in there from in the morning until later- Right... later, later in the evening. Yeah. And- Lately it's been [laughs]
• 14:09
pretty much from 8:00 AM till 1:00 AM. Yeah. [laughs] It's been occupied. Yeah. Well, it's worth stopping by there a little later in the day and bring a six-pack or a 12-pack and- Exactly...
• 14:18
sit around and watch motorcycle racing or shoot the shit about motorcycles or whatever. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Um... Speaking of. What is that? [laughs] Sounds like a motorcycle. The, the walls are talking again.
• 14:32
Well, I was wondering if it was thunder or if somebody's just moving something around upstairs. Uh, so there is another aspect to- [laughs]... to the Create Moto business is transporting- Correct...
• 14:42
motorbikes and sometimes refrigerators around the country. Whatever works. [laughs] If it fits in the van, then you wanna pay for it. Yeah. Um, so as of October, I started branch on my own.
• 14:54
I've worked in dealerships- Yeah... for less We were gonna talk about the high-pressure dealership you worked in. Like, weren't they the highest volume Kawasaki dealer or something- I-... in the country?
• 15:01
One of the, yeah, the, the top three- Yeah... best Kawi deal- dealer in the country. Yeah. They won all the Ichiban Awards in southeast sales. John's still my best customer I have. Right on.
• 15:13
Um, but yeah, worked in dealerships, you know, around this area for
• 15:20
probably about 10 years combined, uh, after working machine shops since about 2003, and then that opportunity to branch on my own in October and start doing motorcycle transport.
• 15:31
And, you know, with the relationships I've built in the industry, and just general love to travel, and contacts of people across the country, um, been doing transport since October, and it's going- Yeah, that, it, uh, it-...
• 15:45
great... seems like a great gig. You get to meet- Great... interesting people and deliver their bikes and check out the country and... Exactly. And it's very specialized. Um,
• 15:55
way, way more popular than I thought it would be this quick. It's been impressive. Awesome. Yes. Let us, let us talk about- [bell dings] The top of this hill...
• 16:07
the top of the hill, since we're in a van now and we're traveling and we don't have to pedal as much. That's my favorite part, is the bell.
• 16:12
[laughs] [laughs] The, I think I talked about this in a video a long time ago, but it's got a [bell dings] nice little clapper in there. [bell dings] That's not the- There's a good sustain. Yeah.
• 16:20
That's not your typical crappy, uh- No... cyclo- It's gold... cross bell. It's actually a legit cowbell, I believe. I think you can get those at cowbells.com or something. Is that the real thing? [laughs] Yeah.
• 16:31
Well, I, at least when I got it. I, I checked again, and I don't know that they still have that one, 'cause it's just got excellent, excellent tone. Sustain and tone. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. And pitch. It's a nice bell. Yeah.
• 16:42
Uh, so we are today at the top of the hill, thanks to Michael, bringing, this is an ode to the Terrapin Station thing that- Yes.
• 16:50
[laughs] I think we talked about it last week, but Tony sent, Tony contributed to the show today. Thank you, Tony. Thank you, Tony. Contributed to the show. We saved it for, we saved it for the show. It is- I know...
• 16:59
yes, it is a- Except for the purchase... it's a Reddit, uh, post about the Terrapin Station thing that S- Steve did- Oh, really?... on Chambers Street. And- I still need to weld him some stuff for it.
• 17:09
I'd totally forgotten. [laughs] Pushing it off. Well, the outside is looking pretty good, so. Yeah.
• 17:15
And- Minus the turtles, but otherwise- And, uh, on, on the, on the Face Place, uh, there's a Dead & Company group that somebody posted a handful of pictures going, "Oh, I'm not much of a deadhead, but, uh, my neighbor, uh, is doing this, and I thought it would be cool to post it."
• 17:30
Yeah. Nice. Because- Yeah... and it is. And I'm, I would do that. So, uh, Athens, Georgia Terrapin, this here brew comes from. We've had Terrapin before. Yeah. The High & Hazy.
• 17:39
This is the- I think it's only like six and- This is the High & Hazy. I don't know. It tastes like- Th-... it tastes like it's, uh, not too old, and it's fluffy, sticky, foggy- Ah, yes... pungent, blah, blah, blah.
• 17:48
And I did purchase it from a place, uh- That-... that I, I, I've, I, I- [laughs] Found... well, that I bought, yeah, when I bought that, uh, Motörhead beer that was like- Speaking of the man...
• 17:59
um, about a year, [laughs] yeah, exactly, about a year old when- Yeah... that Yellow Asylum. I, I think, I think six months is kinda pushing your, pushing your luck. You know- Yeah... you can use for your, uh...
• 18:11
So Kyle's drinking a, he's drinking, is that a sour or a seltzer? What is that stuff? It's a seltzer. Yeah, pretty sure it's seltzer. It's, uh, it's not called Ecto-Cooler anymore, 'cause they got in trouble for that.
• 18:20
There was a, there was a cease and- Oh, they did? Yeah. There was a- Okay... there was a cease and desist from a certain franchise My goodness. Wow. So yeah, now it is Specht Up cooler. Is that from Eagle?
• 18:29
It is Eagle Park. Eagle Park. 'Cause- Ah... 'cause I don't like real beer. Right. Understood. Um, yeah. I was like, I'm like, da, da, da, da, da. I didn't know if it was something that, uh,
• 18:42
they took upon themselves or it was kind of forced upon- And now you guys can see Kyle 100% instead of just the front of his face. Um- I mean, they even had it, like, spelled differently at first, too. Yeah.
• 18:51
Oh, no, they had the E-K-T-O, I believe it was. But it w- uh- Was original one E-C-T-O? Yeah. Yeah. E-C-T-O. That's, I, well, I mean, yeah, and I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm going into my, my Ghostbusters trivia vault.
• 19:03
Put this in here so you can use this- There you go... I like to pee outside. I saw that. Appreciated it. [laughs] You know, they have a whole line of coolers too, though. They have, like, a Baja Blast knockoff.
• 19:12
I was confused by the- I did- Yeah... the, the variety of them that were in the cooler when I bought the, those coolers.
• 19:17
And I, and, and I mean, on occasion, when I don't want a beer, and I don't wanna go down the rabbit hole of ass sliding on liquor, oh, uh [laughs] I gotta. I just showed up through. All right. I gotta.
• 19:28
Um- Ass pocket full of whiskey. Yeah. [laughs] Hip pocket full of gin. It, it, it meets in between very nicely. Yeah.
• 19:35
Where you can still taste it and it's not like fizzy lifting drinks from, you know, the White Claw- Exactly... or things of that nature. [laughs] Cool. So that, uh, s- so it's more like it's a beer though kinda sorta.
• 19:46
Kinda sorta. It's a brewed thing. Yeah. Malt beverage. Malt, there you go. Like a Zima- Fuck... but much better. Man, I'd like, I'm just- Everyone bu- busts balls on Zima. By- They did at the time, but- Um-...
• 19:58
man, they were just ahead of their time. They were. Uh, I was, like, on the cusp of the Zima generation. Right. So I, I kinda saw it and- It kinda- You know? The, the closest equivalent now is, uh, Smirnoff Ice. Okay.
• 20:10
And- Yeah, it's, you're not talking about all the other Car Bliss and all that other- No. No, no, no, no, no... bull crappery. Yeah. Or [laughs] White Claw NA. Uh-huh. [laughs] Full Christ.
• 20:19
I just, yeah, I'm like, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What? What?" Well, you, you're actually, you're actually, uh- Yeah, that's like that, you know, with the snake- Actually putting calories into the can...
• 20:25
yeah, you're snake eating tail- [laughs]... kinda, you know, [laughs] with the, uh, the sign of the millennium group from, uh, X Files universe. Ew. Okay.
• 20:34
So I, I went, see, went into my science fiction vault and I'm- Kiss the sky... I can't get outta here. What? But Terrapin or- Yes, kiss this guy. I dunno. Kiss this guy. Kiss this guy. Excuse me while I kiss this guy.
• 20:44
Yeah, that's what I always thought it said. [laughs] I did for a long time. I, I, I- Another, or another one, um, Garth Brooks, deep cut here, Friends in Low Places. Yeah.
• 20:56
The lyrics I recently learned within probably the last year that it is not I have friends in low places, I have friends at Old Aces. What? I gr- I grew up thinking Old Aces. I listened to it again.
• 21:09
Oh, 'cause is that a bar you went to? No, but I assumed it was. [laughs] I got friends in, at Old Aces. Old Aces. Go, or we're head on down to the- Old Aces... Old Oasis. That's what it was. Yeah. It's Oasis. Yeah.
• 21:20
I thought it was Old Aces. Ah. Oh. [laughs] It's like probably like a cool bar, like me and all my friends go to and- Oh, we're at Old Aces, man. Yeah, yeah.
• 21:27
Oh, yeah, and when you're karaoke-ing and you belt one out- They're gonna play Load up. And, oh, yeah, head on down to the Old Aces, like... [laughs] Actually, that would be better. That- Yeah... exactly.
• 21:34
It's more fitting than- Yeah... yeah... for a- Cool country bar... any kind of country song. Yeah. Yeah. And go hang out with Garth Brooks and- Now I had Ministry burning, burning inside.
• 21:43
Granted, I knew the, it's in the title, Burning Inside. Mm-hmm. But in the screaming, it Bernie gets high, Bernie gets high- [laughs]... Bernie gets high.
• 21:51
But it works out well because Bernie Sanders is in the national conversation for a long time. Yeah. Yeah. So it's al- anytime he comes up, I'm like, "Bernie gets high. Bernie gets..." [laughs] That rules.
• 22:02
I, I- Have to check that one out... I wonder how many... I mean, I'm sure everybody screws lyrics up and for 10, 15, 20 years up, is singing the wrong lyrics. Oh, yeah. Oh, 100%. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. But with confidence.
• 22:13
Oh, yeah. You know, it's just, "Yeah, man." That's the worst part. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. And then, and then your, your phone is doing, like, the karaoke thing- Well, yeah, when you do-...
• 22:20
and it's like, "Well, that's not the right lyrics." Yeah. "What are you doing?" When you're doing karaoke, it's like, yeah, I'm going off, yeah. Yeah, you- I'm going off script, everybody.
• 22:26
You're submitting a complaint, like it's Old Aces, not Oasis. [laughs] So some of our friends over there at Tosa Way, which is a couple miles up the road, were on the news- [laughs] Yes, yes, yes...
• 22:37
for doing some Tosa trail work. I'd, I'll be darned if, uh, TMJ4 is not the crappiest thing to try and find something on as a news story. It's like- Oh, yes...
• 22:49
I g- after 10 minutes of trying to find the thing, I couldn't find it. Well, yeah, 'cause they're not, they don't wanna go into the YouTube hole, I don't think. Well, y- if you're gonna- I don't think so...
• 22:59
if you're gonna- They try to keep everything, you know, proprietary- Yeah, I get it... ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. But also- But it's- You know-... you can't navigate their site. Yeah. I don't even try anymore. No.
• 23:07
It's dumb. Plus, you have to watch ads all the time just to try and find it. And- But anyway-... I'm staring about, like, a half a mile in its direction, the mothership. Yeah. Up the street. It's right over there.
• 23:16
[laughs] Just- I just thought about it as- Just, wait, just there... it's exactly. Like- Yeah. Radio city. Yeah. Well, it used to be Radio City, but- Oh, that's right. [laughs] Kinda r- yeah. Yeah.
• 23:27
So, uh, anyway, those guys were on there. Before all the media died. I don't know if I'd- [laughs] If I had a link- And you were there... I'm not sure that it, it actually would go there, but, uh- [laughs]
• 23:37
All right, back to motorcycles. But and Tosa. And Tosa. And Tosa. Why? What are, where are there- I don't know... are there motorcycles in Tosa? No.
• 23:45
No, uh, no, what I was gonna kind of, what I was gonna kind of bring up is, you know, with Harley being here and with Flat Out Friday being here, and with the most kick-ass event ever that I ever saw for motorcycles, the Bradford Beach Bash or whatever they called it- Oh...
• 23:57
when they raced- Oh, yeah... raced a little, uh, kind of, you know, flat track on the sand thing. Mm-hmm. Does, is, you've been around the country. Is Milwaukee pretty solid on the motorcycle thing?
• 24:07
What's kinda the culture like here? Is it, you know- It is definitely very Harley heavy. Yeah. So it is that kinda V twin cruiser. Definitely very heavy in that.
• 24:16
Um, recently I went to a couple different shows in Las Vegas and Portland where you see a little wider range. A lot of the cafe racer, a lot of the tracker type stuff. I love trackers. Same. Yeah.
• 24:28
I mean, it's the way to go. Yeah. But yeah. Or, or that kick-ass Himalayan you got I'm gonna drive that thing into the ground. [laughs] But yeah, I- It's terribly familiar... so I, yeah, just- The Himalayan. I th- yeah.
• 24:40
It's like a, Ro- Royal Enfield's actually based in Milwaukee as well. Yes. I th- I, um- Yeah. And the Himalayan's like a, it's a small displacement adventure bike. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 24:50
I, so I've been- I mean, it just sounds terribly familiar to me. Yeah. Right... 'cause I'm not much in the engine cycle- That's, it's, it's-... mentalities. You might have been thinking of it as Himalayan. Himalayan.
• 25:00
Um, I've been, you know- With the wrong syllable. Th- there's a new, there's a new s- season, or not season, a new ep- episodes of the Ewan, Ewan and- McGregor...
• 25:09
Charlie thing of the Long Way Home this time, and, uh, those guys are, I d- well, at least in the Long Way Home, they're riding more classic bikes, and they're only on paved roads, which makes sense to me. Mm-hmm.
• 25:22
Mm-hmm. But in the, in the big shows where they were doing the big rides on the big bikes, I always thought, "Why aren't you riding a Himalayan?"
• 25:28
Because it'd just be easier to ride, and it's, it's pretty much dummy-proof and- Exactly. I mean, thing's a tractor. [laughs] For like all- [laughs]
• 25:37
All respects of the conversation, it's very simple, straightforward, air-cooled. They're not fast at all in the least. I mean, 80, I think, screaming topped out.
• 25:48
Right But for, you know, like the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail, form or known as the TWAT. [laughs] Um, things like that where- This was a clean show there, sir. I know. I said shit once already too, I think. Yeah.
• 26:00
This show has become terribly vaginal again. It's, it's actually, it's actually [laughs] listed as explicit just in case. Demonetized. And it's not made for children, thank you. But, but yes.
• 26:11
So- From working for Royal Enfield and, like, being around, uh, being in one of the dealerships and OEMs I worked for, seeing the launch of the original Himalayan- Mm... was pretty cool.
• 26:20
And, like, being part of that to experience a brand-new bike coming out from a company that is older, is the oldest continuously manufactured motorcycle company in the world. Okay. Yeah.
• 26:30
Starting in 1901, but never stopping production. And they w- built many of them in England first, and then being the colonies down there in India, did they start building them earlier, or was that a more recent thing?
• 26:42
Uh, it was pretty early. Yeah. So they w- it was, "It's a British thing. We need to get our motorbikes down there," don't we? Their- Our engine cycles. Yes, engine cycles. Yeah.
• 26:51
[laughs] There is a great story, like, in the history of Royal Enfield where Royal Enfield in England actually closed, but nobody told India about it.
• 26:59
And India just kept producing bikes when the headquarters- [laughs]... in the UK was no longer around. [laughs] Classic. That's perfect. So kinda kept them going- Yeah. There's a-... unknowingly...
• 27:08
there's a billion and a half people in India. They're not gonna- Dude... stop. Yeah. When they're selling a million bikes a year. Yeah.
• 27:14
I, I, so I, I, w- with this, uh, this Long Way wherever those people are going thing, I just thought that what they're showing mostly on the show with the sand and the thing and the deal and dropping the big bikes, I'm like, "That would be perfect for a smaller bike."
• 27:29
Exactly. But obviously the transition stages where you're just five hours just bagging it on a, you know, road with no yaks on it or anything- [laughs]... it might be better to be on the big bike, but- Exactly. Yeah...
• 27:39
you know, maybe a, something that could morph, like a, like a- Like [whooshes]... yeah, Power Ranger. What are those guys? Puffer, pufferfish. Pufferfish motorbike. There we go. Pufferfish. Pufferfish. Something, yeah.
• 27:48
Patent pending. Yeah. [laughs] Right? Yeah, especially something that you could just, um, push a button and air up the tires as you're riding and- Right...
• 27:57
drop the pressure and not have to worry about pumping them up manually- Pressure drop... or something. Oh, pressure. But anyway, I- Pressure. You know, it's- Oh, pressure... obviously a- Drop on me...
• 28:04
formulaic series, but I still enjoy it because of the scenery and just the adventure that they're on and- The, the production quality is- Production aside... super top-notch.
• 28:12
I've come up with this idea about doing a show called Short Way Around. It might be a tour of Milwaukee. Yeah, just you stumbling around Milwaukee. Yeah. It might just be- Drinking beers... a couple of stops at a...
• 28:21
Yeah. Or might- [laughs] We might go all the way up to Port Washington or something.
• 28:24
[laughs] That'd be- I think we should capitalize on their good marketing and their, you know, their ideas for how to film a show and- I'm 100% into it. I like it.
• 28:33
Maybe we could do it on bicycles or motorcycles or- Wanna do it after this? [laughs] Yeah. I mean- Hey, Huey Quan c- uh, could be involved. Who had- Short Round, Short Round from Indiana Jones. Oh.
• 28:44
[laughs] I was trying to go there with it, but- I know, I know... I couldn't put it together. I know. I'm just like, I'm like, "Oh, he goes..." If I, I, I know I got it wrong, but I gotta- Just-... bulldoze through it.
• 28:52
Is he still, is he still around? Yeah. He just won an Oscar. Oh. Oh, well there you go. Oh, really? Heck yeah. Yeah, for the, the thing about everything or something like that, couple years ago. Okay. But yeah.
• 29:01
He's like, "No time for love, Dr. Jones." [laughs] Oh, uh, where's the box? Oh, it's in the other room. I thought- Oh... I thought I brought a couple of them. Oh, well then. Oh, well.
• 29:11
Yes, while you go do that, I'll, I'll sit right here, uh, and, and- Whoa... [laughs] talk to Kyle more about... So Milwaukee, good for both cycling and for, um, uh, motorbiking, as they say.
• 29:24
Uh, you talked a little bit earlier about the Build program, and, like, kind of explain what it is. I think there, you know, a lot of people don't know what it is, and just- Yes...
• 29:35
how it mentors younger folk and whatnot. Right. It's very STEM and STEAM-based where- Tell me STEAM. I know STEM. Oh, for, like, I think it's- What's the A for? I think it adds arts into it. Oh, good.
• 29:46
I like STEAM because- That's separate... STEM is a little not too creative. Right. Whereas STEAM might be a little more creative. Yeah. Don't quote me up. I think it adds arts into it. Work, works for me. Yeah.
• 29:55
Um, where Build started, it's gotta be like 11 or 12 years ago. Um, Tim Dixon with The Iron Horse was one of the original big push for it and one of the, you know, the funding sources.
• 30:08
Um, but since then, it's become very grassroots where, you know, these high school kids have to apply for the position.
• 30:16
So it's like you're applying for a job, and then if you get the job, you're on the team, but then you also have to hire a racer. You have to have somebody doing your books, have somebody doing marketing for your team.
• 30:26
Oh, so it can't be a, it can't be a student that's your racer. Correct. Right. It has to be somebody that has a license or has some skill or- Exactly. And that benefits your team as well, hiring a good racer
• 30:36
You know, overall does help, you know, your overall score and, you know, winning that contest, you know- I di-... what it ultimately is. I didn't realize that it was a Milwaukee invention per se.
• 30:49
Uh, is it around the country now or in other cities yet? They're really working towards it. They've definitely branched out, you know, outside Milwaukee. Like Columbus has a team this year, Sheboygan, um, Tomahawk.
• 31:00
But Harley also jumped on this year. It's been Royal Enfield for the past few years, and in the early years it was CB175s. Right.
• 31:06
You have to, you have to basically use the same starting- So, yep, everybody starts with the same-... uh, motorcycle. Yep. Everybody starts with the same bike. This year it was the XG500.
• 31:15
Um, and then they have other sponsors hop on, so, uh, S&S I believe provided exhausts this year, and I'm feeling real bad on who's sponsoring this year. But,
• 31:27
you know, so they all start with 100 days, get a factory stock bike, and have to make it a competitive race bike. Gotcha. So and then they do compete at, uh, Beaver Cycle Club is their big race for the year.
• 31:39
Flat track, it's like a third-mile oval. Awesome. But it's kind of cool. I love flat tracking. It's easy to watch. It's fun. [laughs] It's- Yeah, my- It, it's interesting... my old man was a, was a Harley Davidson.
• 31:51
He worked in advertising at a company that did Harley, and they were at all the big Springfield and San Jose. And when I got to go to those, I'm just like, "This is so badass." Right.
• 32:00
For, for mile flat track stuff and- Yeah. Yeah. Especially the big stuff where... You know, seeing this, it's neat, and I've worked at a couple dealerships that have actually hired kids from the program.
• 32:10
Oh, that's, yeah, there you go. So Indian Motorcycle Muskego. You can't, you know what you can't do with, uh, motorcycles, uh, or, uh, uh, the build? You can't use the AI on them. You can't, you know. Yeah, exactly.
• 32:20
There's no artificial intelligence here. It's only, uh, intelligence. It is actually kinda cool seeing the kids use AI in design, 'cause they do have to go through a whole design process. Okay.
• 32:29
You know, laying the bike out and even as far as colors and graphics, you know, that is one of the big milestones they have to hit. But, you know, necessary evil I guess moving forward- Yeah... is gonna be the AI.
• 32:40
But yeah, ultimately- To be fair, I did, I did just put it in there for fun to say what questions should I ask [laughs] Kyle. I came up with all sorts of stupid shit, which I- [laughs]...
• 32:48
haven't even gotten into yet, but, uh- Is it, like, all about punching drywall? Yeah. Maybe. No, not so much. Oh. "What does your creative process look like from idea to finished bike? Are you doing everything in-house?"
• 32:58
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. This is more about building. Yeah. I mean, they're, they're good questions.
• 33:02
It, it, I mean, since we've known each other for a while, I didn't really have to go through it, but I just thought, "Well, what if he was a guy I had never met? Would it, would it make sense what it came up with?"
• 33:11
And it, they seem, you know, semi-legit questions. Right. I know you're wondering what those things are. I am. [laughs] They've been sitting in front of you this whole time.
• 33:18
[laughs] It's like, it's not for the OnlyFans channel. Oh, shit. No, okay. Oh. So these are, these are made by a guy in Australia. Interesting. I think that's actually Down Under. I'm not positive. I think it is.
• 33:31
But, um, these are a thing that goes on the Omnium cargo bikes that we carry that replace a couple of the rack straps that have D-rings on them, super strong D-rings so you can use a different kind of a, a strap.
• 33:45
You know, you can use different hold-down things because the normal one you're just kinda doing it to the rack, and this thing gives you these awesome D-rings. Nice.
• 33:55
And, uh, Paomal, he's on the Instagram if you wanna order. Uh, if you like any of these colors, though, I got them in the US of A. There is no United States distribution yet for these things, but he does such a good job.
• 34:06
And I think if you order them individually with... Postage is what killed it, so I ordered three of them 'cause the postage was the same for one set or three sets, and I'm like, "Well, let's get three."
• 34:18
Uh, but that's a Paomal thing and if you like colors, let me know. Uh, I really kinda think I want the purple ones. The pur- That's a good purple. Yeah, that's a good purple.
• 34:26
If Dave had an Omnium, those green ones would be gone right now, but- [laughs] But anyway, that's, uh, for your Omnium cargo bike, those are pretty cool. Uh, here's one other thing I'll mention before we get outta here.
• 34:37
It is that, uh, we talked about the big fr- Ah, somebody stole it. Damn it. Ugh. We talked about the frames last week, the AR45, which we had done quite some time ago and had been sitting around
• 34:48
waiting for my brain to figure out that I can actually get through axles for them. Thank you very much. But I, I threw some up on the eBay, and I also put some with what I like to call the gravel starter set.
• 35:01
It's a gravel-capable frame and a wheel set for a very affordable fee on the Facebook Marketplace.
• 35:06
So if you wanna check that out, that would help us, you know, keep these very hot lights on and make sure that we can be here next week to kinda- I'm not perishing as much as I thought I was going to be sitting in these lights.
• 35:17
Nah, yeah. Well, I'm sweating my ass off. Yeah. Yeah. We'll get that air conditioning coming in here pretty soon. I'm feeling it. Yeah. Well, don't worry. I'm, I'm getting the musk.
• 35:25
[laughs] The next three days here in Milwaukee will be, you know- Oh, shit, this weekend is gonna-... un- un- unfathomably warm. Yeah. I did a test run of the AC at, at the house yesterday, and it works. Same, same.
• 35:38
All right, cool. Let it run for a little bit and okay. Yeah. And then that's it. Um. That thing made some weird noises in the other room, but in the end it just kicked in and started doing what it's supposed to do.
• 35:46
This week, it looks like one that, yeah. Ugh. I'm not going out when it's 95. Well, I mean, I'll go out to get- To, to a-... get somewhere... air-conditioned place. [laughs] Shirts are optional at Cree Moto. Ah. Oh.
• 35:58
Oh, right on. That's good to know. So, yeah. Pants too? Yeah, sure, whatever. We like to party. [laughs] Well, that's coming up. Yeah, there's been call-out for the naked bike ride.
• 36:04
Oh, the, the, yeah, the naked bike ride in, it's only a couple weeks away I believe. Yeah. They didn't really... I, I think you have to, like, hit the QR code- I have it not scheduled on the calendar...
• 36:15
to find, uh, to find the- Oh, massive crusher... [laughs] You didn't do it either... the, the start location, which I think is- Bleed everywhere. Yeah... I think it normally started around Cooperage, didn't it?
• 36:25
I- It sound like it. Have never- I think I've never done it... well, A, never done it, and B, always cringe when I see them riding by, so. Well, it doesn't make... Yeah. [laughs] I need something between me and saddle.
• 36:33
Like, why is it, why is it all- Right? I mean, anything. Just, yeah... why is it all 60-year-old guys? I don't get it. Right. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. I know I'm a 60-year-old guy. I'm not riding around naked.
• 36:40
That just seems- Yeah... stupid. I witnessed it once through Walker's Point, and I was very disappointed. Yeah. It should be beautiful people. Oh, you know- Beautiful, beautiful men, beautiful women.
• 36:50
[laughs] Maybe like Peewee over there. Ha. Ha. Ha. I might be on that ride. La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la. Uh, finally, starting today- Mm... which would be the 19th of
• 37:02
June, is the Tour of America's Dairyland races. They're gonna be all over the southeast Wisconsin area. It's a lot of, lot of fun stuff. Mm-hmm.
• 37:10
I would say the highlight this year, I think, is gonna be the Bay View Race- Yes... which is a, which is a week from today. Which is the Devo night. Is it? Eh? Yeah, I know. Oh, no. Oh, yeah.
• 37:22
Well, that might work, though. Because I know where I'm watching it from. I know where you're watching it from. I know where you're watching it from. Do you know that, uh- [laughs] But you said it damn convincing.
• 37:30
I just, I just- Yeah, if you just bulldoze through. Broom, boom, boom. Yeah, all right. But, uh- Yeah, go. Tell me where you're watching it from...
• 37:34
you know, number-one daughter is stage managing that stage, so- Understood... I am working on how to maybe get in there. Oh, then yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're gonna be poaching, though. Hell, yeah. Perfect position.
• 37:45
It's a good stage to poach. Yeah. It's at Uline. You just sit there right at the end. Boom. Yeah. Got your own beer. Got your own g- beer. [laughs] And there's a, uh, port-a-potty right there.
• 37:57
You may get to hang out with, uh, Milvereen or some such. Yeah. Yeah. And listen to him for a little bit. Yeah. Yeah, which is fine. Yeah. It's- It's just not what... I don't know. I, it wasn't inviting and then [laughs]
• 38:10
So I can't... I'm like, I don't know. All right. So before we melt into the environment here, uh, Kyle, are there any events coming up or anything that people might wanna know about at the old Create Moto space?
• 38:23
Um- And, and/or the building in general that, uh, has a bunch of event space in it. Uh, end of July, I am working on a photo, photographer-type event.
• 38:36
Kinda imagine a tattoo convention where you can go check out different artists and get work done by, you know, a specific one fitting your style.
• 38:44
I'm putting together a event that is going to be that, but for taking photos of your bike, you, and not limited to motorcycles. Right on. Yeah. Um, that's end of July. Look for that one.
• 38:56
It sounded like a good one because we kinda opened that up yesterday a little bit, and there's a, a lady that does tin types, which are- Oh... obviously an entirely old way to do stuff, and- D- she's been killing it.
• 39:05
Amber Asher's been- Yeah... doing pop-ups now twice at the shop. And there's a guy that's into motion, so maybe you're flying by him and he's getting the [exhales]. Yeah.
• 39:13
We have, yeah, have friends with photographers- [laughs]... that shoot for magazines and- Yeah... you know, some high-end, like, Formula Drift-type publications. Yeah, cool. That, that sounds like a good one. I...
• 39:22
And then maybe a swap meet towards the end of the summer. Swap meet towards the end of summer. Our first one, it was decent. It wasn't advertised as well. It was kind of a feeler. Um, got a lot of good ideas from it.
• 39:33
And I think moving forward, I can produce something very unique, more of a farmers market style- Mm-hmm... motorcycle swap meet- Motorcycle adjacent... retail. Exactly.
• 39:43
I mean, Amorphic, Shell To Run is always- Oh, yeah, we haven't said Amorphic yet today. It's the farmers rocket reimagining. Six, six more times. Interpr- reinterpretation. Yeah.
• 39:53
If you, [laughs] if you've been to either- It's like, like Glenn Gary, Glen Ross. No, like Glenn and Gary. [laughs] No. You are- I'm not going there... you should go home. I'm not going on that one. Not...
• 40:05
He's, he's in good shape this week. Yes. And, uh, yes. Not bad. [laughs] That's what, yes. No one, yeah, don't get into the ladies. All right.
• 40:13
But yeah, Ron always does good events over there, and everything, you know, does indoor farmers markets all winter, and just a very cool vibe, and I kinda wanna welcome more cyclists into that.
• 40:21
Well, I wonder if he was aware of the, uh, the event last night when we stopped by there. Dude, that was rough. [laughs] Oh, man.
• 40:28
I, it's good when it's in the back because you can, you can just go touch on it a little bit and then you can leave, but it was in the main- Yeah, it was weird. Yeah. Oh. We'll talk about it after the show.
• 40:38
We- Understood. [laughs] Yeah, it's, it's, it's weird. All right, everybody. Hey, thank you, Kyle, very much for being a guest. Thank you, guys. I'm surprised you haven't been over here before. Yeah.
• 40:45
I've never even been to your shop. Thanks for the invite. Yeah. When you've definitely got hammered in my shop dressed as Santa and, you know, I think- Might have done that. [laughs] Might have done.
• 40:54
The least you could do is invite me over and check it out. Yeah. You probably don't remember. Oh, I remember fine. [laughs] I'm sure you don't. All right.
• 41:02
