- 0:11All right, get to see you tonight.
- 0:13Here we are again, meaning together.
- 0:17I to, I mean, second Samuel chapter six.
- 0:27Second Samuel, chapter 6. You have your Bibles tonight, if
- 0:33you're a person who does not have a Bible and you don't
- 0:35regularly bring a Bible come, see the leadership and we will
- 0:38help you get a Bible. Okay, we want you to have a copy
- 0:42of God's written word and your hand and we are Advocates of the
- 0:47white pages with black ink in it and red letter.
- 0:51If you have the red letter version as well, and maybe we
- 0:54will write a blog post or something about why that is the
- 0:57case even in this technologically advanced age but
- 0:59that is not the purpose. Tonight's meeting I want to come
- 1:03to this chapter, ready with our hearts open, our brother prayed
- 1:06but I think it's necessary to pray again.
- 1:08As we have God's word before us afresh.
- 1:12Well, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts that we get
- 1:16to be students of your word of the full Revelation that you
- 1:20have given to mankind. Thank you, that we are not in
- 1:25need of a different portion, like other people in different
- 1:28parts of the world who only have certain aspects of your truth.
- 1:31You have given us and blessed us with the totality of your word.
- 1:35We do not take this for granted. Well, we pray that you would
- 1:38energize us that you would give us the grace to receive these
- 1:42Truce that you would help us edify one.
- 1:44Another that this meeting would not be interrupted free from
- 1:50distraction Lord, and more importantly that we would sense
- 1:52your presence and power changing us as we realize what you have
- 1:57to say. We give you maximum praise and
- 1:59honor, more importantly, not just in our singing, but from
- 2:02our obedience to your instruction, in Jesus name, we
- 2:05pray. Amen.
- 2:08You and I have now arrived at a very captivating, very powerful
- 2:12chapter in the book of second Samuel.
- 2:14And the reason for that is because this portion of
- 2:16scripture details David's campaign in retrieving, the Ark
- 2:22of the Covenant, and to place it in the new capital of Israel,
- 2:25which is Jerusalem as we discovered last week.
- 2:28Now, just just for those who might have forgotten or who are
- 2:31not familiar, the Ark of the Covenant that we are going to
- 2:33read about is arguably, the most important piece of furniture
- 2:38that was designed for the house of worship at this time in of
- 2:42History, which was known as what starts with a t known as The
- 2:48Tabernacle correct, not the temple, we're not there yet,
- 2:51we're at the Tabernacle still a portable tent large enough to
- 2:55have a few people in it but more importantly to have certain
- 2:59elements and instruments within that house of worship that had
- 3:03many significant symbolic representation and purpose for
- 3:08that time for the nation of Israel.
- 3:09But the Ark of the Covenant was something special it was known
- 3:13as God's Earthly Throne so to speak and at times we see that
- 3:18God Shows the ark to speak and give instruction to his people.
- 3:22That's what he actually told Moses while they were preparing
- 3:25to design it. This is where I'm going to speak
- 3:27to you. And another key moments, we see
- 3:30that this Arc, which is really a box.
- 3:32It was like a chest was used to manifest God's power against
- 3:38Israel's enemies, and there's many instances of that.
- 3:41And one of the strongest ones that we know of is Jericho where
- 3:44the ark was taken up, and they had to go around that huge.
- 3:48He many times. And it was, it was God's
- 3:50presence that brought about Victory and there's there's
- 3:52different moments that. I'm sure you can recall.
- 3:54But more importantly, the Ark of the Covenant had a lid on it
- 3:58which was known as what The Mercy Seat, correct?
- 4:02And The Mercy Seat was essential piece to the sacrificial system
- 4:07of Israel. And it was the Ark of the
- 4:10Covenant that would be engaged with.
- 4:13It would be interactive with only one day out of the year for
- 4:17the purpose of God, dispensing. Some measure of Mercy to his,
- 4:20sending people, which ultimately points to Jesus Christ.
- 4:23We know Jesus Christ, and the cross of Calvary is where we
- 4:27meet God. That is where we experience God.
- 4:30That is where we know God. That is the entry point, right
- 4:34there. Many things, that can be said of
- 4:35that in light of Jesus Christ, but we know that David here,
- 4:39Wants it. He wants it because it's been
- 4:42quite a while since we even heard of the Ark of the Covenant
- 4:45and we will discover why in a moment, but David wants to bring
- 4:49it to the political Capital. You know why?
- 4:52Because as David has now been inaugurated, as the king, he
- 4:54wants to make sure as early as possible that his people would
- 4:57know that he's really not the king.
- 5:00He wants his people to know God is really the king.
- 5:03And so now he's establishing the spiritual center place and he
- 5:08wants it near him and he wants to actually overshadow him.
- 5:12He wants God's presence to be the very focus of his people
- 5:16though. He will be the king for quite
- 5:19some time. And before we get into these
- 5:21verses and can, I be honest with you, I was overwhelmed with this
- 5:25chapter. There's no way we're covering
- 5:27this in one setting and that's okay, but I was just Vermont
- 5:30because even in the verses that we will cover I just didn't know
- 5:32where to stop almost. And so before we get there we'll
- 5:36see what time does and how we will be led.
- 5:38I'm going to read a few verses as we did last week and we're
- 5:41going to open it up to see what What observations you make from
- 5:44an initial reading you guys did wonderful last week and if I can
- 5:48give any instruction, is as tempting as it might be to
- 5:51really go on to share what you see, just just keep it minimal.
- 5:55So just for the sake of time and and it was wonderful last week,
- 5:59it was just Like one person after the next, I'm going to
- 6:01read a few verses. I hope you have your tool belt
- 6:04on and the to about this. What simple reflective
- 6:06questions? What does it say about God?
- 6:08What is this? A about men?
- 6:10What new testament principles of I seen this Old Testament
- 6:12illustration, what's the wider context?
- 6:14That helps me understand, this, what are some details names
- 6:17repetitions that? I see that can help me
- 6:19understand God's emphasis, in this section of scripture verse
- 6:231, David again, gathered all the chosen men of Israel, 30,000,
- 6:29and David arose, and went with all the people who were with him
- 6:33from Bali Judah to bring up from there, the Ark of God, which is
- 6:37called, by the name of the Lord of hosts who sits enthroned on
- 6:42the cherubim. And they carry the Ark of God on
- 6:45a new cart, and brought it out of the house of abinadab, which
- 6:49was on the hill, And uzza and Ohio, the sons of abinadab were
- 6:56driving the new cart with the Ark of God, and Ohio went before
- 7:01the ark and David and all the house of Israel were celebrating
- 7:06before the Lord with songs and lyres, and harps, and
- 7:09tambourines, and castanets and symbols.
- 7:13And when they came to the threshing floor of Nathan, uzza,
- 7:16put out his hand to the Ark of God and took hold of it for the
- 7:20oxen. Stumbled.
- 7:23And the anger of the Lord was kindled against uzza.
- 7:27And God struck him down there because of his error and he died
- 7:31there beside the Ark of God. A mixture of emotion, right?
- 7:39What do you see here? And your initial reading of
- 7:41this? What?
- 7:43Things stand out to you? Yes.
- 7:49Okay, so this is the first time that he gathered God's people
- 7:52together. Sure.
- 7:57Okay. So we see that the ark was moved
- 7:59by The Oxen on a cart. When really, it's supposed to be
- 8:02done another way, and we'll get to that.
- 8:04It's a key important part. Anything else.
- 8:12Okay, so we see, we really like an orchestra here.
- 8:14We see this, this this procession and it was, it was
- 8:18wonderful. It was, it was amazing.
- 8:21Yes. Yes.
- 8:22Lori had something. Okay.
- 8:34So not just that, they didn't do it the way God, prescribed them
- 8:37to carry this, holy this, holy Ark, but they copied somebody
- 8:42else. And that's really the root of
- 8:43this which is an important observation to this is a
- 8:46familiar passage and I'm glad most of you here are
- 8:48understanding what's taking place here, but we're going to
- 8:50ask a little for fresh Revelation as well.
- 8:52Anything else? Any other observations?
- 8:58Yes. Yeah.
- 9:02So this celebration quickly turned into a tragedy and I
- 9:06think what we're going to learn is just because there is
- 9:08exuberance and joy and noise doesn't necessarily mean that
- 9:12God is happy. Yes, anything else.
- 9:20Anything else is stands out? Okay.
- 9:23Yes corgis. Yeah.
- 9:31So there's a little there's something going on here with
- 9:33Susana hiya. Why are they the ones who are
- 9:36kind of leading the way for the ark to be transported to the
- 9:38place of Jerusalem? Yes.
- 9:59You were correct, there is a sovereign thing happening for
- 10:03the ox to stumble. At this point, it's an
- 10:07interesting place for the Sox to stumble and you'll see that if
- 10:10you are with us until the end of this session, great
- 10:14observations, anything else? Yes.
- 10:19The Lord is teaching them obedience through a very very
- 10:22hard lesson through discipline. Yes.
- 10:24And it's going to teach us something.
- 10:27Anything else? Yes, Grace.
- 10:38Very good, David arose but the David seek God's guidance.
- 10:46He's going to seek something but we're not going to see him
- 10:49seeking God unfortunately. Yes, maybe a couple of more and
- 10:54then we'll continue. Very good.
- 11:02Did you hear that the emphasis on a new cart?
- 11:05Now we talked already about the cart and new cart.
- 11:10We're always enamored about new things, aren't we?
- 11:13We'll see why that's dangerous for the church.
- 11:17Anything else, great observations.
- 11:23As you and I come to this text, this will be extremely
- 11:25instructive for us in Understanding God's holiness,
- 11:29God's holiness and how his terms of worship are what we subscribe
- 11:34to no matter what the goal of our worship or Ministry or
- 11:40planning or implementing is. And so as you and I come here,
- 11:45We should also have in our Bibles ready.
- 11:47First Corinthians or rather First Chronicles 13.
- 11:50That will be a helpful passage to parallel this with because in
- 11:54the first two verses we see that David gathered, all the chosen
- 11:57men of Israel 30,000 and he arose and went with all the
- 12:01people but it's in first Chronicles 13.
- 12:04And the first few verses that we see in detail what David said
- 12:08and did to get the people to join him in this project to
- 12:13acquire the Since of God, symbolized with The Arc.
- 12:17And so, look at verse 1, a first Chronicles 13 to understand
- 12:21verse 1 and 2 of chapter 6 of second Samuel in a clearer way.
- 12:25David consulted with the commanders of thousands of
- 12:30hundreds with every leader. And David said, to all this
- 12:34assembly of Israel, if it seems good to you and from the Lord,
- 12:38Our God let us send abroad to our brothers who remain in all
- 12:41the lands of Israel as well as to the priests and Evite's in
- 12:45the cities that have pasturelands that they may be
- 12:48gathered with us, or to us. Then let us bring again the Ark
- 12:53of our God to us for. We did not seek it in the days
- 12:56of Saul all the assembly agreed to do.
- 12:59So for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people, many
- 13:03things can be said of this passage.
- 13:04Let me give you just two one thing that stands out to me.
- 13:07In light of this is how David brings to the attention of the
- 13:11people that the Ark of God was not sought after during the
- 13:16reign of Saul, That is an indictment, yet again of saws,
- 13:21leadership as the nation's King. Because what this says, is that
- 13:26for 40 years, there was no effort made by Saul to revive,
- 13:31the people's concern for the things of God.
- 13:34And I think a text like that is incredibly insightful to help us
- 13:39understand the tragedies of this man's life, as well as the
- 13:42nation's. Leave God out and watch what
- 13:48unwanted things will come in. You cannot neglect God from his
- 13:54rightful place and at the same time believe that you can be
- 13:57exempt from Pain. Unnecessary pain.
- 14:00At least chaos, confusion, oppression or division.
- 14:08Saul, here is a very sobering illustration, and a wonderful
- 14:12case study. Of the depths of the darkness
- 14:15that you and I can discover when we fail to actively acknowledge
- 14:18and honor God. That is true individually and
- 14:22that is true on a national scale, happened to Israel.
- 14:26And so here's what you have to understand, sincere worship,
- 14:29joyful submission to God, is what stabilizes US.
- 14:33It stabilizes your life, your heart, it stabilizes society.
- 14:38And again, when you fail to place God, where he deserves to
- 14:43be you open yourself and those around you to Untold disaster,
- 14:49and that's what happened with sauce.
- 14:51That is, you want to know why? Saw was the way he was.
- 14:53You want to know why was such a dark period in Israel's history?
- 14:56Because of this God was not in his thinking, God was not his
- 15:00planning. God was not in his meditation,
- 15:02God was not in his nothing and that translated to everything
- 15:05else that happened in that period of Israel Nation.
- 15:10But what's interesting here is the contrast David is the one
- 15:14who is now initiating the project to say.
- 15:16We need to get back to focusing on God.
- 15:19He's the one who does it. But listen, he doesn't just
- 15:21initiate it. He inspires a people to be a
- 15:24part of it. And what I find.
- 15:27So encouraging here is that all the assembly agreed to do.
- 15:30So they said, let's do it. Let's do it.
- 15:33And all it took was one person. One person to remind them, that
- 15:38there is a God, and we are under him, and he has blessings in the
- 15:42place of obedience. And there are curses in the
- 15:44place of Disobedience. Let's get back in alignment.
- 15:47Let's get back to pursuing, him and honoring him, and loving
- 15:50him. And the people said we're behind
- 15:51you. David It would be dishonest for
- 15:55me to say that it will always be the case that one person's
- 15:58godliness will awaken other people to spiritual fervor.
- 16:02That would be untrue, but at the same time, the scriptures does
- 16:07not does not cancel that possibility out, right?
- 16:13The scripture even even pushes us to say, you know, if you
- 16:16pursue the Lord with greater greater intensity, one of the
- 16:19blessings that make come out of it as a others will also catch a
- 16:22fire and they will also pursue and realize that there is a joy
- 16:27in this place of putting God in the center, piece of who you
- 16:30are. And that's exactly what David
- 16:32does. His Zeal, inspired the Zeal of
- 16:35others. And here's the thing, that's not
- 16:37just true for David. That is true in the New
- 16:39Testament as well. You know, I'm going through
- 16:42second Corinthians in my personal reading and something
- 16:44popped out to me in a portion of that text that people are a
- 16:48little bit nervous around and it's a portion of Texas speaks
- 16:51about giving right second Corinthians. 8, Second
- 16:54Corinthians 9, but it's in 2nd Corinthians 9, that there is a
- 16:58phrase. There that bless me this
- 17:00morning. I want you to see it because
- 17:01it's tied into this. So go to Second Corinthians 9
- 17:04very quickly. And I want you to see verse 2,
- 17:08he speaking to the Corinthian Christians and he is reminding
- 17:12them of something that they've done whether knowingly or
- 17:14unknowingly. He wants to remind them of
- 17:16something. That's really, really important
- 17:17for us to understand in our pursuit of.
- 17:20Not just God, but zealous Pursuit Of God.
- 17:23Look at verse 2. Fry know your Readiness.
- 17:26Now pause what's he doing? He's reminding the Corinthian
- 17:30Christians to be a part of this project to make a contribution
- 17:35to the church in Jerusalem. That was that was in need of
- 17:37financial aid. So he's teaching them but he
- 17:40makes a personal by saying fry know your Readiness of which I
- 17:45boast about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that aquella
- 17:48has been ready since last year. In other words, they've been
- 17:52ready to do this since last year they've been making
- 17:54preparations. And for this offering a year ago
- 17:56and he's telling the Church of Macedonia, notice what he says
- 17:59and your Zeal has stirred up most of them.
- 18:04Your Zeal has stirred up the Macedonian Church and you go to
- 18:07Second Corinthians 8 and you see how great that Zeal was
- 18:10Macedonian Christians at this time?
- 18:12We're extremely poor and yet they best says, They begged.
- 18:16Paul to be a part of this relief poor but they're saying, please
- 18:20Paul don't hold us back from being a part of this.
- 18:22We want to give to this relief. And what did that come from the
- 18:26Corinthians? The Corinthians inspired that
- 18:29Zeal in the macedonians and Paul saying hey you were the ones
- 18:33that sparked this And don't lose your fire.
- 18:35Now, it was because of you that the macedonians are getting
- 18:37excited, don't lose your excitement.
- 18:40Listen, I've met over the years, many sincere godly people who
- 18:45love the Lord and they want to see their husbands love the
- 18:48Lord. They want to see their wives
- 18:51come to love the Lord with a passion.
- 18:53They want to see their children be serious.
- 18:55They want to see their group of friends that they grew up with
- 18:57that. That struggle in are lukewarm at
- 19:00times to be with them and pursuing God, right?
- 19:05Are you one? Who says, if you're not part of
- 19:06this church, or if you're a part of the church, I want to see my
- 19:08church be more serious. About the things of God, I don't
- 19:12want to just hear a message on Sunday and then talk afterwards
- 19:15as though, God wasn't in the room.
- 19:17If that's you may I give you honest advice and exhortation
- 19:21from the scripture be fervent yourself.
- 19:25Be fervent yourself first because at the same time, a lot
- 19:29of these people who make these kind of comments and have these
- 19:31desires are not at that place. I know that place that's not
- 19:36always the case. But sometimes that is the case
- 19:39and the lack of concern around them dampens their fire.
- 19:43And so it's almost as though they are dependent upon others
- 19:46to be at that place before they come to that place, that's not
- 19:48how it works. It's not how it works.
- 19:51And so if you want to contribute to the possibility of others
- 19:54around you that you love Love. To be consumed with the things
- 19:58of God. Well you get there first and
- 20:01ride that wave long enough and don't be so sporadic yourself
- 20:07and don't be so inconsistent yourself.
- 20:10Do you want to know how passionate David was about?
- 20:13The are coming to Jerusalem? It wasn't a two-week thing.
- 20:16It wasn't a post conference experience.
- 20:19It was so obvious to those around him.
- 20:22That there is a psalmist who wrote in observation of David
- 20:26Zeal, his desire for the arc, there's anybody know that song
- 20:29what number it is. What song?
- 20:37No, but you're close, not little bit more numbers.
- 20:40You have to get into the 100's actually, Okay, you want to see
- 20:45it? Psalm, 132 look at the first
- 20:47five. Verses I want you to see the
- 20:49description of David's passion. Because we all have different
- 20:56understandings of what true passion is for.
- 20:58God. Some people believe their
- 20:59passion for God because they don't go to the bars on Fridays
- 21:01and they come to Bible study. Well that's nice but notice
- 21:04notice what? Absolutely consumed David.
- 21:09In verse 1 of Psalm 132 a song of ascents.
- 21:12We read remember O Lord. Here's what the psalmist says.
- 21:15Remember O Lord, in David's favor.
- 21:18All the hardships. He endured.
- 21:20Yes. We studied all those hardships
- 21:22and some not in scripture. I'm sure how he swore to the
- 21:26Lord and vowed to the mighty one of Jacob.
- 21:28I this is what David said. I will not enter my house or get
- 21:33into my bed, I will not give sleep to my eyes or Slumber to
- 21:37my eyelids until I find Place for the Lord.
- 21:41A dwelling place for the mighty one of Jacob.
- 21:46That's the kind of Desire that Sparks something in those around
- 21:51you. That's that's what can even Mark
- 21:53and Nation. The psalmist here was so
- 21:56impressed by, obviously inspired by the spirit to write about
- 21:59this and you. And I have to understand that
- 22:02it's that kind of, if that's, that's the kind of zeal that
- 22:08will rub off on others and perhaps even cause them to be in
- 22:11the same place as you or even exceed.
- 22:13You and so, If there's no prayer in your home, be the first one
- 22:20to pray. Right?
- 22:24If your friends are not, if they're inconsistent from being
- 22:27in this place and how they are outside of this place, initiate
- 22:30something initiate conversations about the Lord initiate
- 22:33testimonies, but more than anything else, just live it for
- 22:37yourself. And you never know who might be
- 22:40watching and who might share in that Joy because the salt of
- 22:45your life has made them thirsty for Living Water.
- 22:49I may offer also word of caution even in that, right?
- 22:52Because the Temptation and the pitfall that somebody can have
- 22:56in that pursuit of the Lord, with Zeal is to become
- 23:00spiritually. Proud, that's the danger.
- 23:03And so what happens is you now because you know, that there's
- 23:06something different about you and that God does consume you
- 23:09and you love the Lord and you Fellowship differently than
- 23:12others and your priorities are different than others.
- 23:14That can very, very easily cause you look down on others.
- 23:18Did you notice the attitude in the language of David?
- 23:21When he addressed his people to join him in this project?
- 23:25Go back to 1st Chronicles, 13. What did he say?
- 23:26How did he say it with tenderness?
- 23:30If it seems good to you in verse 2, if it seems good to you like
- 23:35that's that's graceful, that's inviting.
- 23:38That's soft, that's attractive. And then you read, there's
- 23:43another, there's another word that reoccurs over and over, let
- 23:47us let us Let us let us. Let's do this together.
- 23:53I'm no higher than you. I'm not greater than you.
- 23:56I'm not Superior than you. Let's do this together.
- 23:59I'm on the same level as you. And I want us to see the beauty.
- 24:03That's, would you join me in this?
- 24:07And so many people who are zealous can fall into the Trap
- 24:10of actually being repulsive. because there's an arrogance
- 24:15that comes with their passion and there's this sense of you
- 24:20just haven't arrived to where I'm at, And guess what?
- 24:23If you're there you already lost.
- 24:25There is no hope for those around you even want what you
- 24:27have? In fact, true Zeal, choose your
- 24:31true holding. His true godliness, does not
- 24:33need to be advertised, it doesn't, you don't have to boast
- 24:37about what you know, or what you've done.
- 24:41Fire doesn't scream, that's it and Fire doesn't put up,
- 24:46advertisements in the neighborhood that I one of the
- 24:47houses are burning, does it know people see the fire and it
- 24:52attracts And I want you to believe that about your pursuit
- 24:57of the Lord, you don't have to trumpet, you don't have to Glow,
- 25:01you don't have to come to a place where you bully people, or
- 25:05make them feel small because you're somewhere where they're
- 25:08not. In fact, Davey here contrast
- 25:12another king who had the exact opposite Spirit.
- 25:16He was an extremely zealous King, he did a lot for Israel at
- 25:20a time where many people would not do what he did, but he had
- 25:24literally the exact opposite and he overestimated his
- 25:28faithfulness to God? Does anybody have an idea who
- 25:30I'm talking about? He's not, he's not that much of
- 25:33a known character, but once you see this, you're going to,
- 25:35you're going to realize why these two are Polar Opposites,
- 25:38who is the king? Or the king that did so much
- 25:43damage to Baal worship. Close, but no good, guess very
- 25:50good jehu and jehu in the middle of this campaign of cleansing.
- 25:55The land of Baal worship. Says something that really
- 25:59stinks with pride. It's so unattractive.
- 26:03It's so it just makes you kind of squirm.
- 26:07And it shows you it's a reminder of the danger that even if you
- 26:10are doing awesome things for God and destroying Idols around, you
- 26:16yourself can make yourself an idol.
- 26:19Second Kings. Look at this, is this one verse.
- 26:21So simple, so clear. Turn those sacred pages to
- 26:26Second Kings very quickly. I want you to see this in verse
- 26:2910. Excuse me, verse 16 of chapter
- 26:3110. He addresses Jehan adapt.
- 26:36And look what he says in second Kings chapter 10, verse 16. and
- 26:43he said, come with me and see my Zeal for the Lord.
- 26:53If I was Joanna W what I said? No, thanks.
- 26:57Come with me and see my Zeal for the Lord.
- 27:02Region, whose life. He did wonderful things to deal
- 27:06with the national compromise of his day, but as she sought to
- 27:10destroy idolatry, he ended up worshipping his own Zeal.
- 27:17Admiring his own Zeal. Elevating himself in comparison
- 27:22to others. And it's the complete opposite.
- 27:26Attitude, come with me and see my Zeal.
- 27:28What did they even said? Let us let us, let us pure Zeal,
- 27:34pure passion that is Honorable to God.
- 27:36That will that will win people's hearts does not say, I know more
- 27:42than you. I'm better than you.
- 27:43You may not say that out of your lips and my slip here and there.
- 27:47But it doesn't even say it in the heart. you realize even when
- 27:52people are different levels of spirituality that you are, you
- 27:54are just as susceptible as falling into that trap, you can
- 27:57easily be in a season where you don't think about God at all,
- 28:01almost And you know, that whatever is happening in your
- 28:04heart, whatever is happening through your life is by the
- 28:06grace of God, and you want others to share in the joy that
- 28:10you have. Complete opposite attitude of
- 28:14this man. And so we see here that as Jay
- 28:17who pronounces house L is he is David wants to Simply allow his
- 28:21life to do the talking and now scroll down to verse 31 of
- 28:25Second Kings, 10. Look at how the holy spirit
- 28:27gives commentary of J whose faithfulness and Devotion to
- 28:31God, you ready for this verse 31?
- 28:34But Jay who was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the
- 28:39god of Israel with all his heart.
- 28:41He did not turn from the sins of jeroboam, which he meet is.
- 28:45Wilkinson. God had a different opinion
- 28:49about jehu. Got a different opinion about
- 28:53jehu and that's scary that we can think differently about
- 28:56ourselves that how God sees us. And so I want to, I want to be
- 29:01where God wants me to be. And I want I want to know more
- 29:05than anything that God is pleased with what he sees.
- 29:08I don't want to be pleased with what I see.
- 29:11I want to know that God is pleased.
- 29:13That is the safest place to be and I hope that is a place that
- 29:16you will be if you want to see others come alive in Jesus
- 29:19Christ, come alive in Jesus Christ and stay alive in Jesus
- 29:23Christ. Long enough for people to say
- 29:26that's the real deal. You know the reason why so many
- 29:28can't buy into this, Because we don't, we don't stay in the
- 29:31place of fervency, long enough for people to ultimately be
- 29:35convinced. I can tell you this even about
- 29:38the unbelieving world. When I was in college, I would
- 29:41be teased. I would be persecuted, I will be
- 29:43mocked. I don't want to sound like a
- 29:44martyr because my suffering was nothing in comparison to what
- 29:47other people are enduring. But I would tell you, I would be
- 29:49made fun of in front of the whole class and all these
- 29:50things. And this is the thought that
- 29:52came to mind. Especially with a couple
- 29:55particular people. They want to press me and they
- 29:59want to, they want to squeeze me enough to see if what I have is
- 30:02the real thing or if I'm willing to cave with a little bit of
- 30:05pressure in my life. And would you know one of those
- 30:09people ultimately after a whole year came and asked me, what is
- 30:12it about? Jesus Why are you the way you
- 30:15are? When all that time they were on
- 30:18an Evangelistic campaign to see what I have is sincere and true
- 30:24people watch and want to see, are you willing to cave?
- 30:28Is this? Just a fad, are you going to
- 30:30give in? Are you just like everybody else
- 30:32that? Just yes one day no the other
- 30:34stay there and watch out people will be blessed by it.
- 30:37Second Samuel, chapter six, that's come to verse 3.
- 30:42David was able to get this. This group of people, the
- 30:45leaders, the people of Israel to be on their feet and now they're
- 30:49going to the countryside to get the ark from the house of
- 30:52abinadab in the countryside. And so they come And the careful
- 30:57student, as many of already observed will already know that
- 31:00there are red flags to this whole thing.
- 31:01And the red flags is the way that they got the arc.
- 31:05We read here, that the way that they got the ark was by placing
- 31:09it on a new cart. And to drive that new cart to
- 31:13Jerusalem, You heard it already. I'll just say it again, for the
- 31:17sake. Of those who haven't heard God
- 31:20had given clear instructions back in numbers, how the ark was
- 31:23to be carried on the shoulders of the Levites and not just the
- 31:27Levites, but a specific family from the Levites who's that
- 31:30family? Starts with a k.
- 31:38So we see here that there is a specific particular surgical
- 31:44instruction and they just dismiss the completely They put
- 31:49it on a new arc. And this is under David's
- 31:53leadership. Where did David get this idea?
- 31:55From somebody already said it but this is that anybody miss
- 31:58it. Where did, where did he get this
- 32:01idea from, to put this arc on a new car?
- 32:03The Philistines, the Philistines capture the ark back and first,
- 32:08Samuel. And after capturing the ark,
- 32:10they realized you can't mess with this Arc.
- 32:12In other words, The Arc can take care of itself because the
- 32:15presence of the Ark in enemy territory brought about plagues
- 32:19and judgment. They said we got ourselves in a
- 32:21Messier, they send it back and the instructions were send it
- 32:25back on a new cart. So it arrives on a new cart and
- 32:29Makes you wonder if David being backslidden with the Philistines
- 32:33for over a year, adopted worldly philosophies, during that time.
- 32:37And now when he came to his chance, to bring about this
- 32:40wonderful fulfillment of the Ark of God being Central again.
- 32:44He slips into the place. A putting it on a new cart.
- 32:50What's the lesson here? The lesson is very obvious.
- 32:53Israel, use the carnal method to accomplish a righteous goal in
- 32:58the Temptation. Here is the Temptation
- 33:00throughout all generations. Because what you will see here
- 33:04is regardless of the intention regardless of the, the ambition,
- 33:10the desired goal. God is not just concerned about
- 33:14what you're doing. He's also concerned about how
- 33:17you do it. He's very particular, he is
- 33:20Holy, he has clear instructions and so God is Not merely
- 33:25impressed by us doing it for a god-honoring reason even or in
- 33:31the name of God. He's given obvious.
- 33:35Clear, instructions of how we should go about it, the ends
- 33:39never justify the means ever. It might for others, not for
- 33:44God, the result of something or the motor for something is not
- 33:49the only thing that glorifies God.
- 33:50The means is what he prioritizes more than anything else.
- 33:54Despite the result, it's the means trusting in his wisdom
- 33:58submitting to his precepts. Got have you said to do it this
- 34:01way? Then we will do it this way. for
- 34:03some reason, David doesn't Does anybody have an idea?
- 34:08Why David used a new car? Why do you think he did it?
- 34:15People debate, whether he was ignorant of the law or not.
- 34:17People say, he knew very well what he was doing.
- 34:20Some people say he would just wasn't aware of the part of the
- 34:22Bible. You didn't show up to Friday
- 34:23night that one night about what you do with The Arc.
- 34:26Why did David put the Ark on a cart?
- 34:31Can I give you my suggestion? Where was the house of abinadab?
- 34:36The text tells you, huh, on the hill.
- 34:41Where was Jerusalem situated? Was it a hilly area or is it a
- 34:44flat area? Its mountainous?
- 34:48So here's David's thinking it's much easier.
- 34:53To go up and down these Hills and to carry the Ark of God.
- 34:57It's much more convenient, much less effort and we'll even get
- 35:01there faster. If we do this with wheels,
- 35:05instead of depending on the shoulders of men, And the
- 35:09natural man says, hallelujah Innovative.
- 35:12Wonderful sounds great. But is it right?
- 35:19It is not right, just because it's lighter, just because it's
- 35:23faster. Just because it seems to bring
- 35:24about quicker results. Does not mean God Smiles at it.
- 35:30And that is the exact, well, a major reason why?
- 35:36Christians and Christian Ministries today.
- 35:39Do not completely rely and apply the word of God to how they
- 35:43serve the Lord. It's more convenient to the
- 35:47flesh. Why pray?
- 35:51Why why fast? Why preach why?
- 35:55Wait on God, when we can do this this and this and even see
- 36:01things happen, At a faster rate. And so the church has to hear
- 36:09what God is saying here. That we are always in danger.
- 36:15Of looking at easier ways more attractive ways, it's new and
- 36:19then, apply that to how we do ministry.
- 36:21Do you know how many churches are encouraged to start their
- 36:24churches to see their churches? Grow?
- 36:25Would you like to know how? Here's a popular method, create
- 36:29a survey go to your neighborhood and on that survey asks people
- 36:33who are not saved or not regenerate who are not born
- 36:34again, ask them. What would you like to see on a
- 36:37weekly service at your local church?
- 36:40And gather the data and try to and try to balance Holiness and
- 36:45and worldliness and bring something that will bring people
- 36:49and keep them and grow. The days of Simply trusting
- 36:55God's word. Are quickly being replaced by
- 37:00seeking that which is more convenient and appealing to the
- 37:04Flesh and that's what you're having today.
- 37:07If you didn't recognize it. What do you where do you think
- 37:10they got this idea of preaching? Be replaced with shorter.
- 37:15Ted Talk Like sermons. Because some of these Ministries
- 37:21have been told, people want to be out of church by noon, they
- 37:24have things to do, they have to go take care of their Garden.
- 37:28They want to go watch the football game.
- 37:31They got to go here, they got to go there so come on let's just
- 37:34get it. Going communion service just do
- 37:37it. Quickly just say a couple words
- 37:39and she said we gotta go people have stuff to do on the Lord's
- 37:42Day. Come on you got to be relaxed.
- 37:46If you want people to be receptive you can't be so
- 37:48confrontational. You just got to be relaxed.
- 37:51And let people see that you're kind of like on a porch setting
- 37:55talking back and forth and people's attention spans are.
- 37:58Very not very large these days because of everything just the
- 38:01day that we're living in. So just kind of give like one
- 38:04key truth and drive it and look the Bible like it's complicated
- 38:09and people don't understand the depths of it.
- 38:11So just just buff it up with as many stories as possible.
- 38:15You got to get footnotes though because then people will you
- 38:17know they'll call you a heretic or unbiblical.
- 38:20So where did this come from? Came from somewhere.
- 38:24Came from the Philistines, that's where it came from.
- 38:29And you, and I have to understand that.
- 38:32This is a danger. More than ever today.
- 38:35You know why? Because our brother said it, the
- 38:38emphasis here is not just the cart, but a new cart new, new
- 38:40new, new new new, right. And the time that we're living
- 38:44in, there has never been a mass production at the pace that we
- 38:48are knowing of newness. Right.
- 38:51Just think about how many apps and Trends have come and gone in
- 38:54the past five years things that were exciting and captivating.
- 39:00Two years ago is lame and old and boring today.
- 39:07And because we're people living in this kind of a world, very
- 39:12easily can that stuff creep in and US say, we need to do it new
- 39:17new. We gotta, we gotta freshen
- 39:18things up, man. And so let's do virtual reality
- 39:22church and let's baptize people and fake water.
- 39:27People don't want to go and get wet and have to change and then
- 39:31if they come in and their hair is not done, all right.
- 39:33Virtual reality Church, um, Live stream.
- 39:40Listen, let me say something. Okay.
- 39:43Just because the world produces things does not mean the church
- 39:47has to apply everything. Okay.
- 39:50Just because the world produces things does not mean we have to
- 39:53apply absolutely everything because we can get very we can
- 39:56get a very tricky situations. So you know how many let me just
- 40:00tell you this, you know, how many churches today as I'm
- 40:02speaking are suffering actually. Most churches are suffering in a
- 40:06post covid world because I'm a great percentage of those
- 40:10congregations have realized they can do church and their living
- 40:13room. And something that's a blessing
- 40:16of people are watching. Now, God bless you, that helps
- 40:18for those who are sick, who can't make it, who are injured?
- 40:21We want to utilize that tool but if you're not careful, it can
- 40:25substitute obedience. And so, just like the new cart.
- 40:31I was just talking to people in the past few weeks people in
- 40:33leadership in churches, large chunks of the people are not
- 40:37coming regular anymore. Why?
- 40:38Because it's just easier to do church when you watch and you
- 40:41can do other things and get more done.
- 40:43It's a new cart. It's a new car.
- 40:49So be careful, be careful watching if you're a leader, be
- 40:54careful, just because it's new just because it's a fad.
- 40:57Just because people are talking about it.
- 40:58Just because it seems more convenient, does not mean we
- 41:01need to apply it to church. We got to go back to the ancient
- 41:05paths as Jeremiah talked about. and so, We see in the remaining
- 41:12of this verse and these verses the fruit, the fruit of what
- 41:15happens when you do not subscribe and give yourself
- 41:20completely to what it is that God says, how we should do
- 41:23worship, how we should do ministry, how we should do
- 41:26Christianity? Let me just give you two
- 41:28observations notice in verse 5 and David.
- 41:31And all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord with
- 41:35songs and lyres, and harps, and tambourines, and castanets.
- 41:40And Here's what happens when you try to do it the Philistine way,
- 41:45instead of the biblical way. You got noise but you don't have
- 41:51true worship. You produce noise, but you don't
- 41:54get true substance. You get large numbers and you
- 41:59get a lot of activity, but it's void of the presence of God,
- 42:03it's void of his pleasure. If you were to read that verse
- 42:07in isolation, would you be impressed?
- 42:09I might be. Wow, this is something very holy
- 42:11that's going on, but you know what?
- 42:13It was in God's eyes and empty production.
- 42:16It was an empty production. It was literally just a show.
- 42:20And that's what happens to a Ministry.
- 42:22When it deviates from Total obedience to God's word it
- 42:26forfeits true God honoring worship.
- 42:31And we often make the mistake of being impressed by that which
- 42:36which seems exciting, which seems loud.
- 42:39They're shouting. There's clapping what an
- 42:42exciting atmosphere. God must be blessing.
- 42:45This place. Not necessarily not necessarily.
- 42:49Here's a key example where you can have all of the hoopla.
- 42:54God, not even be in it at all. But because we're very soulish,
- 42:59we're easily persuaded by. What seems to be true success.
- 43:02When in fact, it's a failure. It's a failure.
- 43:07And so you have to understand something.
- 43:08If you want to be one to measure yourself, more.
- 43:11Importantly, if you want to look at anybody who claims to be
- 43:13Godly, any Ministry that came to claims to be God.
- 43:15Honoring, the, the basic thing you have to do is, is What's
- 43:19Happening Here in alignment to the scriptures.
- 43:22It's as simple as that, no matter how impressive it may
- 43:26seem. Is it lined up to the word of
- 43:30God. People always ask me how that
- 43:32the Q&A. How do I know what's Church to
- 43:34be a part of very simple. Look at all that they're doing.
- 43:37And see how much they exalt God's word over it.
- 43:40That's it. That's it.
- 43:44I've talked to many people over the years.
- 43:45All that place man. It has awesome worship.
- 43:48What they mean is the worship. Band is really good.
- 43:52Okay. Oh that place man.
- 43:55I whenever that guy talks I cry, why do you cry?
- 44:00Okay, you cry. That's my I can show you a clip
- 44:02on YouTube of people crying. Because they believed that there
- 44:07were Disciples of Jesus reincarnated and they were told
- 44:10tell us about the crucifixion and they were telling them about
- 44:12the crucifixion because they're part of a cult of a guy who
- 44:16believes that he is. Jesus Christ return on the
- 44:18earth, okay? You cry.
- 44:23Is it lined up to the word of God?
- 44:26Is it according to the scripture?
- 44:27It's as clear as that. But let me, let me make this
- 44:31point as well, because here's the opposite extreme.
- 44:34Now, you have people who consider themselves fundamental
- 44:37conservative serious, bible-believing.
- 44:39A verse by verse and there's no passion.
- 44:45Every time they come to church, you think it's a funeral
- 44:47service. Hello the Lord resurrected from
- 44:49the dead. And so you have the opposite
- 44:52attitude to and here's here's here's what I want to say.
- 44:55If there's anybody who should be exploding with joy and gladness,
- 45:00it's those who are walking in the truth.
- 45:02That's who and we see that later on where when David comes back
- 45:08to do it the right way, he's dancing before the Lord not
- 45:11recommending that But he comes to Jerusalem with great gladness
- 45:17great gladness. So this shouldn't be this, this,
- 45:20this weird divide, where if you are biblical and you are sound
- 45:24your stiff as a board. But you have people here who are
- 45:29not sound, who are not in alignment to God's word about
- 45:31their passion, and their just emotional people.
- 45:33So now what you have is you equate emotion with heresy, and
- 45:37if you're serious in your Godly, you just whatever.
- 45:43I don't get that. I really don't see that in the
- 45:44Bible. So what happens when you do the
- 45:48Philistine way, you got noise but you don't have true worship.
- 45:51You want to worship do it? The way the Bible says, and let
- 45:55the joy of walking in the truth, translate in the way, you sing
- 45:59the way, you serve, the way you Fellowship, the way you
- 46:01represent them on the Earth. verse 6 & 7, it's not just
- 46:05noise, but we see here that long enough, you will bring spiritual
- 46:10death, Let me read this to you again.
- 46:14And when they came to the threshing floor of Nathan, uzza,
- 46:17put out his hand to the Ark of God and took hold of it for the
- 46:20oxen stumbled. Somebody said it earlier, isn't
- 46:23it? Fascinating that eventually The
- 46:26Oxen stumbled and it wasn't on a hill.
- 46:31It was on a flat surface, a threshing floor. and the point I
- 46:37want to make is that when you try to do it a different way
- 46:43than God's way eventually, it's going to disappoint you.
- 46:47Eventually it's going to not work.
- 46:49Something is going to go wrong and that's exactly what happens
- 46:54here right? We see that God's holy work
- 46:57cannot be carried but by Unholy means God's presence is
- 47:03incompatible with us doing things in the flesh.
- 47:07And so the ark stumbles, in such a way it jolts where it looks
- 47:10like the ark is going to slip off and fall to the ground.
- 47:14And the thing that you take out of here is that it's going to
- 47:16Fail. It's never going to work.
- 47:20And so let me give you an example of this.
- 47:22When you have people who strategize and say, let's just
- 47:25try to get the people in. And the way we're going to get
- 47:27the people in is avoid the controversial subjects.
- 47:30Let's not press on sin. Let's not talk about the current
- 47:32events that deal with morality. Let's just let's just get people
- 47:36to feel good, you know this what happens?
- 47:38You get the place packed. I mean you can do it within a
- 47:42year. You have a you have a
- 47:44charismatic enough person, a really talented band with pretty
- 47:47people. Oh, you're set And what happens
- 47:51is you get people coming in and what not do you do when you need
- 47:56to talk about those issues? What's going to happen now when
- 48:00you need to address homosexuality, when you need to
- 48:02address the biblical principles about gender, what are you going
- 48:06to do now? And you have people as I'm
- 48:09speaking who are in that dilemma because they did it by starting
- 48:14and putting the thing on the, on the, on the cart and now when
- 48:16they come down the road they realize well I don't know if
- 48:19we're seeing true disciples out of this, I don't know which
- 48:21they're seeing their social media posts or their
- 48:23congregation. They're seeing what they believe
- 48:24about political things that are dealing with morality and
- 48:26they're scared. So now we got to talk about and
- 48:28now The try to talk about it. They know that they're going to
- 48:30lose most of the people. Well some might say, Well
- 48:33they're never going to talk about it, then they'll just keep
- 48:34using the same method. Fine.
- 48:36You want to go down Road, that's what you're going to get death.
- 48:39That's where you're going to get.
- 48:40You want to stay in that lane. This is what you're gonna get.
- 48:44You're going to get God's discipline.
- 48:46And that's exactly what happens. Who's that does?
- 48:50What to the arc? What did you do?
- 48:55Touches it, God, strikes and dead.
- 48:59What's the point there? Well, it didn't start with.
- 49:02It was a touching, the art. It started with them.
- 49:03Putting the Ark on a cart. One spiritual compromise will
- 49:07always lead to another. Always. so here's what happens
- 49:12when you're lenient and relax and when you, when you ignore
- 49:15one tenets of the faith or one aspect that is clear in the word
- 49:19of God in due time in order to maintain the hoopla, in order to
- 49:24move forward and what you think is Success, you're going to have
- 49:26to compromise on something else and another thing and then
- 49:30another thing and then another thing until what God shuts, the
- 49:33thing down, Enough is enough. And he disciplines.
- 49:39And that's exactly what happens here.
- 49:40They went from putting the Ark on a cart tuza now touching the
- 49:45ark and God wanted to make an example of them and said, no.
- 49:51And he turns the lights off. So to speak the party's over.
- 49:56And more can be said about this but let me make this, let me
- 49:59actually ask this question. Who are those who are in the
- 50:03category of the most susceptible to making this mistake of being
- 50:06light with God's word, you might be surprised by the answer.
- 50:11Who are those who are most susceptible to meet being light
- 50:14and Casual about the things of God, and the word of God, and
- 50:18the commands of God, if you want to yes.
- 50:24Very good. Did you hear the answer?
- 50:26Those who are constantly surrounded by the things of God?
- 50:32And how do you know that? Okay.
- 50:35Personal experience, good. Well, that's good.
- 50:37But there's another thing to according to the huh, nadav, and
- 50:41avihu is another example. Sure.
- 50:42But our example is right here, all you got to do is again,
- 50:45remember your tool belt. You still have it on, right?
- 50:47One of the tools is, how does the wider context, help me
- 50:50understand this present portion of scripture.
- 50:55We see here that 20 and Ohio were the ones who are driving
- 50:58the thing, right? And uzza was the one who put his
- 51:01hand. Well, here's my question
- 51:03whoo-hoo. Are these men?
- 51:06Where do they come from? Which house were they?
- 51:09Were they a part of? I've been at that.
- 51:11Have you heard his name before? yes, when First Samuel good.
- 51:19When Okay, turn there to First. Samuel chapter seven.
- 51:26I want you to see this for yourself.
- 51:31First Samuel chapter 7. It's a good verse one.
- 51:45And the men of curia, theorem came and took up the Ark of the
- 51:48Lord and brought it to the house of who I've been a dab.
- 51:52Okay. So they brought the ark to the
- 51:54house of abinadab on the hill and they consecrated his son
- 51:59Eliezer to have charge of the Ark of the Lord.
- 52:01Now before we go to verse 2, so that is where the ark was for
- 52:04quite some time. Does anybody know the amount of
- 52:07time that the ark was in a been adapts home?
- 52:11Very good. Next verse tells us, we see her
- 52:14from that day. The ark was lodged from the day
- 52:16that the ark was Lodge at Korea, theorem a long time.
- 52:19Passed some 20 years who were whose own Ohio, the sons of
- 52:26abinadab implying, what they grew up around the presence of
- 52:29God. So, this is for those who grew
- 52:32up in the church, this is where those who grew up in Christ
- 52:35honoring home. This is, for those who heard the
- 52:38name of Jesus as early as you can remember.
- 52:42Okay, there's a danger for such people.
- 52:46And the danger is so clear as a not.
- 52:48I mean some of you might be experiencing it right now,
- 52:50you're tuned out. This is like whatever.
- 52:55Man, I hope. Now you're here on a Friday
- 52:56night. Hope you're here for the right
- 52:59reason. But we see here that the danger,
- 53:02for those who grow up around the presence of God is that you fail
- 53:06to proceed moving forward, in life, with great caution.
- 53:11About how you walk with him. And so there is no more this
- 53:16sense of a reverence for God. That's lost.
- 53:21And there's a familiarity that causes you to flirt with the
- 53:26line of outright this honor. And carelessness.
- 53:32And so here's the thing, if you're a person who has grown up
- 53:36in the church, And if you can be honest and reflect on your
- 53:40growth in the Lord, if you're a growing more and more.
- 53:47In different if you have lost that sense of awe, if you don't
- 53:52tremble anymore, as God's word is being preached by men who
- 53:55tremble. At God's word, you're in a
- 53:57dangerous place. You are.
- 53:59You're in like, code, red, alerts.
- 54:02Something needs to happen to my heart because the opposite
- 54:05should be happening in your walk with the Lord.
- 54:08I'm under the conviction that if you grew up in a house that
- 54:11feared and honored, God and 20 years has passed, You should
- 54:16have every year, every moment grown, in a greater fear of him,
- 54:19as you learn more and more of his Holiness of his love, his
- 54:22mercy of his wonderful power, not the opposite effect. and
- 54:29that is, unfortunately the case here and it is the case for many
- 54:33These men were comfortable. They were casual.
- 54:37They lost that sense of splendor.
- 54:42And some might push back on what I'm saying.
- 54:44Now by saying booza, these helping got out, I mean, The
- 54:49Oxen stumbled and choose a put out his hand and he wasn't doing
- 54:52an evil thing. He wasn't doing a vile thing, he
- 54:54was doing a good thing. and so I'm just curious to know of
- 54:59maybe this is your first time hearing it, maybe you've read it
- 55:00before who here if you're honest and it's not a sin to confess
- 55:04this was a little bit shook by reading about what happened to
- 55:07choose us so quickly when he did this, anybody, okay, that's okay
- 55:12if it's a case So you read this and you think Lord are, why did
- 55:18you have to bring such Swift judgment?
- 55:21Why something? So immediate no voice from
- 55:24Heaven. No warning, no call.
- 55:25Nothing. Well we already discussed why
- 55:30God had laid out. So obviously in his word these
- 55:32men should have known better but especially especially to Za
- 55:37especially Ohio because here's my question.
- 55:41Now, what was the predicament? What was the context that
- 55:47brought the ark to his front step to even begin with?
- 55:50Do you remember why it was that the Ark of the Covenant came to
- 55:53the house of abinadab was it because they want some Lottery?
- 55:58What was it? What was the context behind
- 56:01that? The Philistines sent back the
- 56:03ark? The ark comes back within the
- 56:06borders of Israel. And then something happens
- 56:10between that moment and the Ark being dropped off to this house.
- 56:15Who remembers it. The people looked into the ark
- 56:21and God struck 70 of them. And the people mourned because
- 56:26the Lord had struck the people and they were fearful.
- 56:28And they said, we don't want to handle this thing, so they send
- 56:31it to the house of abinadab. And here's the point that I'm
- 56:35trying to make Huzzah new that. So what I'm trying to make the
- 56:42point, I'm trying to make is that who's had more than just,
- 56:44the clear prescription of God's word telling him what to do with
- 56:47the ark, he had personal experience.
- 56:50He personally with his own eyes and his own ears, his old
- 56:54upbringing was around the realization that God can
- 56:58actually manifest his Holiness and judge God is not to be
- 57:03played with God in a holy way, may use this word is dangerous.
- 57:09He's dangerous around, casual attitudes around his presence
- 57:14and he Dubai was another example.
- 57:16He knew that firsthand he had the privilege and honor that
- 57:21many of the Israelites would never known.
- 57:23He grew up with the ark. You know how significant that is
- 57:27only the high priest. Once a year would come into
- 57:29close proximity with such a thing that Arc, I don't know
- 57:32where it was placed in the garage and delivery, it was
- 57:34close enough for him to see it and know, it was there every
- 57:37single day for 20. So before we start charging God,
- 57:42for being unfair realized who were dealing with here, this
- 57:45isn't a stranger, this isn't just a teenager that doesn't he
- 57:49hasn't matured yet? This is a grown man who knew
- 57:52full, well what God was capable of namely what this Arc is
- 57:55capable of. And he's still presumed that he
- 57:57can put his filthy carnal sinful hands on the presence of God.
- 58:05So we might be shocked to see what happened here with Sousa.
- 58:12But humans have a tendency pay attention to this point.
- 58:16We have a tendency to be surprised at the wrong things
- 58:20that we read of in the Bible. We do.
- 58:26We look at things. And we tend to question the
- 58:31wrong side of the equation. And what I want you to
- 58:36understand is that there is a better question to ask, then why
- 58:39did God kill ooza so quick? You ready for this?
- 58:43Why didn't God kill everybody? Why didn't God destroy them all?
- 58:53Especially the leaders, even David who are organizers behind
- 58:58this illegal procession. and so somebody, I heard the story of
- 59:05somebody who asked a preacher Pastor.
- 59:09I'm so conflicted by that verse in Romans 9, where says, Jacob I
- 59:12loved and Esau I hated How can God hate, Esau?
- 59:19Now, I understand hate to be a different way than how we
- 59:23understand. Hey, we'll get to that when we
- 59:24get the Romans 9 and like 2048, okay?
- 59:28Jacob, I loved Esau I hated how can God Hades saw?
- 59:33You know what the preacher said? That's not my problem.
- 59:34My question is, how can God loved Jacob.
- 59:40How can God love a Despicable deceiving Trickster?
- 59:46Who continually Dishonored God for decades until he finally got
- 59:52it. See, we're asking the wrong
- 59:55question, a lot of the times and the cause of, that is a lack of
- 1:00:01a mature and honest comprehension of the character
- 1:00:05of God. In his Holiness and in his
- 1:00:08majesty, while also failing to understand the absolute vileness
- 1:00:14of who we are in comparison to him.
- 1:00:17That's what it is. and the more you come into this word and the
- 1:00:24more you realize who God is The last things you will be able to
- 1:00:31question. Because it all falls into place
- 1:00:34when you understand who he is. I think that's that's really the
- 1:00:39reason because we look at uzza and we go how when in fact we
- 1:00:45should be looking at God and saying how And the way we save
- 1:00:52ourselves from doing what David did, what was David's reaction
- 1:00:55to this remind me inverse a David was angry.
- 1:00:58David was angry because the Lord had broken out again Souza.
- 1:01:00That's what you have a lot today.
- 1:01:02People angry at God, people upset with God, people accusing
- 1:01:05God, how could you, how could you?
- 1:01:07How could you? Why would you?
- 1:01:10Why would you? Why would you How can God allow
- 1:01:13suffering? Let me give you a different
- 1:01:14question. How can God?
- 1:01:16So holy so pure. So brilliant.
- 1:01:18Make a way for us to escape Eternal suffering.
- 1:01:22I'm not, I'm not here to minimize legitimate questions.
- 1:01:25I'm not here to say that, I'm not saying that that's proof of
- 1:01:27a lack of maturity, but I'm saying when it, when it gets us
- 1:01:30to a place like David where we become will become those, who
- 1:01:34sit in the Judgment seat against God, that's a dangerous place to
- 1:01:36be. And it's proof of a lack of
- 1:01:39understanding of who God really is.
- 1:01:43And so, David goes from anger to verse 9 to afraid.
- 1:01:49He was afraid. This man was confused.
- 1:01:52He was confused. He really was.
- 1:01:55And you know how he's going to be rescued from this confusion.
- 1:01:58I'm not going to take you there, but when you go to 1st
- 1:02:00Chronicles 15, he realizes that the way we're going to do this
- 1:02:03in a second attempt because the first attempt fail, this is
- 1:02:06going to be a second attempt it by doing it by, do order, the
- 1:02:09way that God laid it out. So that's how you save yourself
- 1:02:13from a lot of confusion when you just go to the word, really.
- 1:02:18But let me end on this point. Our brother brought it up and it
- 1:02:20is a good point. Why do you think God allowed
- 1:02:24this to happen, where it happened?
- 1:02:30Where did it happen again? The threshing floor of naked.
- 1:02:35What happens at a threshing floor?
- 1:02:40Very good. What happens on the threshing
- 1:02:42floors? You would have sheaves laid out
- 1:02:44on a flat surface, and then you would have some oxen, or
- 1:02:47different animals. And sometimes you would have
- 1:02:48people with sticks and they would beat on the sheaves until
- 1:02:51the hard external part is separated from, from the edible
- 1:02:55part in other way. And another way of doing is that
- 1:02:58you would take a mixture of things and you would take it
- 1:03:00with a winnowing fork, and you would on a windy day, throw it
- 1:03:02up into the air and the wind would blow.
- 1:03:04And then the chaff would be removed and the grain would fall
- 1:03:07to the ground and you would gather it as a harvest. and God
- 1:03:13in the place where separation took place made a statement
- 1:03:20There needs to be separation between the holy and the Unholy.
- 1:03:27And I wonder if that click for them, it clicks for us because
- 1:03:30we have the aerial view of the whole thing.
- 1:03:33I wonder if it clicked for them in the same way that in life,
- 1:03:37there are things that are separate and that's what those
- 1:03:39laws are all about, by the way, you've probably heard it from
- 1:03:42somebody who says, you don't believe that you should have any
- 1:03:45approval of gay people. A, why are you wearing a
- 1:03:47different piece of cloth? And why do you do this?
- 1:03:49And why do you put grain in here and not the same agriculture?
- 1:03:52Why do you do that? The whole thing is not about
- 1:03:54necessarily. Just arbitrary random rules,
- 1:03:59it's the principle of Separation.
- 1:04:01That's what God is trying to communicate.
- 1:04:03In those tax there is the uncommon, there's a common,
- 1:04:05there is the holy there's the Unholy and in the place where
- 1:04:09day-to-day activity took place, where there would be a
- 1:04:11separation that occurred? God says, I want that in my
- 1:04:14people. I want that for my church.
- 1:04:18I want that in you. And here's the danger when we
- 1:04:22refuse to after being exposed to so much especially after being
- 1:04:27exposed with so much of what we grew up with.
- 1:04:30We invoke God's discipline. We invoke God's discipline.
- 1:04:35And here's what David learn and verse 8.
- 1:04:38And that place is called Perez Souza.
- 1:04:41Perez Souza to this day last week.
- 1:04:45David named something else. Something what did he named that
- 1:04:47place? Yeah, ball press seam, the Lord
- 1:04:51of what breakthrough. So what did he learn?
- 1:04:55Their God can break through like a flood and bring about a
- 1:04:58blessing immediately in a second, God can turn things
- 1:05:01around and the next chapter he realized Pres whoosah which
- 1:05:08means breaking out again Sousa. That this God also can break out
- 1:05:13in discipline. In judgment. and severity, and
- 1:05:18not just in kindness, and David was angry at first He took a
- 1:05:24deep breath. He was afraid.
- 1:05:32He steps back. He does what the people did with
- 1:05:35the house of abinadab, he takes the ark and he puts it in
- 1:05:37another house, the house of obededom, and we will learn next
- 1:05:40week. What will happen from there?
- 1:05:42Let's pray. Lord, we thank you for this this
- 1:06:09study for stimulating, our hearts Lord, we pray that in
- 1:06:18this place. You would see a people who love
- 1:06:22to obey the pattern of your word.
- 1:06:25Help us in all things. to be able to say we do this because
- 1:06:30God said, we do it this way because God said, we go this way
- 1:06:36because God said, Lord. Would you rescue us from the
- 1:06:42trap of familiarity? Would you keep us from coming to
- 1:06:46a place where we can touch the arc?
- 1:06:51we can defile that, which is holy, And without thinking twice
- 1:06:57about it. Lord, we pray that we would not
- 1:07:03be a statistic among those who become so familiar that we
- 1:07:07become numb in the process because we've heard the stories.
- 1:07:11And we know the gospel Because we've been to meetings and
- 1:07:17enough conferences to hear these things over and over again,
- 1:07:20where we lose our sense of the Majesty of Jesus Christ.
- 1:07:24If anything Lord, would you be merciful enough that the more we
- 1:07:28grow in years, the more we grow in our, aw, Lord help us resist
- 1:07:35that temptation. Of the new cart.
- 1:07:40As a ministry, as a church Even in our own lives help us hold on
- 1:07:45to the ancient paths. And Lord though I may be slower
- 1:07:49though may require more we want the true fruit of the spirit.
- 1:07:53We want the true results that come when we trust the holy
- 1:07:57spirit's leading and so, Lord, in this place, we gladly allow
- 1:08:01you to separate us from the world.
- 1:08:03We glad you. And we gladly invite you to
- 1:08:05remove all the chaff We gladly invite you to say oh God make us
- 1:08:10pure like you are pure. Holy Like You Are Holy, lovely.
- 1:08:13Like you were lovely. And Lord help us really
- 1:08:16understand. That even one person in this
- 1:08:19place who is really committed and ignited by your spirit can
- 1:08:23touch those around us without any effort on our part to try to
- 1:08:27persuade them day after day. But just the live this out we
- 1:08:31honor you we want to worship you tonight because you are the Holy
- 1:08:35One you are awesome and mighty and glorious.
- 1:08:41And we see you for who you are. We do not assume that you are
- 1:08:44like us. And so, Lord.
- 1:08:48We say how, how can you a mighty being be mindful of men to love
- 1:08:54us, individually to care for us to actually have a plan for each
- 1:08:58of Our Lives? That you have ordained before
- 1:09:03the world was even created, how can it be that such a glorious
- 1:09:07being loves us. So we are amazed that you Lord
- 1:09:12that you would even consider saving us mere creatures that
- 1:09:16came from the Dust. And you chose for us to be your
- 1:09:22Abode. We are amazed at your presence
- 1:09:25in Jesus name, we pray. Amen, let's stand as we close
- 1:09:28together. Worshiping the Lord
