Latest / Others Receiving Votes / Dangerous Field Storming & Bobby Petrino Is BACK
Transcript
- 0:02[SPEAKER_03]: All right, welcome to show others receiving votes back again this week.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Pat Forty joined by my colleagues, Jean-Wildjahowski, and Brian Fisher, and you know how things work in this business, especially in college sports, you plan things, you lay things out, you get all prepared for a podcast, and then the night before.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: Big Ten says we're maybe going to do a $2 billion private equity deal.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_03]: So we're starting over scramble mode, hurry up offense, see how this goes.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_03]: These are the topics we hope to get to today.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see if we get to them all.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_03]: If not, feel free to sue us.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_03]: This show is free.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to talk about the Big Ten latest money grab.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: We uh, we're going to talk about politics coming for Paul Feinbaum or the other way around Field storms and other acts of fan trespassing Arkansas and Bobby Petrino.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we can't let that one go.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: And Vanderbilt and Indiana are they giving us reason to rethink what's a good coaching job and what's a bad job.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: And of course, at the end, we will have winners and state dinners with the fat bear results included.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_03]: We did have a winner on that and Texas state fair.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_03]: Would you eat it?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_03]: So a lot to get to again, it will see how much we actually get to.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: But let's start guys with the the big 10 situation.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: And I wonder.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: as Tony Petiti walks across the beautiful campuses in the big ten.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: If he ever has done so, he's a TV guy.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's not a college guy, but if it lets assume he has, does he walk across the beautiful campus at Indiana University and say, you know, if they just put Jimmy John's ads on every bench, they can mix more money around here.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_03]: Or at the DAG and Michigan, if we put turn styles, at the entrances in charge students
- 2:08[SPEAKER_03]: Mirror pond in the last state.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, let's bottle some of the water and sell up.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_03]: Surely we can find some schmucks who would buy that.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: Tony Petiti is in it for the money and hey, I get it.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's the name of the game right now in college sports, right?
- 2:23[SPEAKER_03]: It has become revenue obsessed and part of that is because of the amount of expense that's now going out to pay players and other expenses.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_03]: But I wonder here now, if this is again, Petiti taking the Big Ten a bridge too far.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_03]: And I want you guys opinions on this very interesting development.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: ESPN reported our friends, Dan Watson, Pete, familed, good story that they are contemplating a $2 billion private capital deal in exchange for giving whatever the private capital entity is.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_03]: a partnership in big 10 enterprises be a one share equal to the 18 that go to the schools plus one that goes to league office, those would be your 20 entities that would split up this money and whatever profits come in a couple of the interesting details.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_03]: A 10 year extension of the grant of rights, every ramifications for the landscape of college
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm blanking out here right now on the other ramifications.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they have the tiered.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: Ah, yes, thank you.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: All right, pick it up.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, pick this up here, can three, two, one.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_03]: And significantly, tiered revenue distribution, IE, the most favored programs would get the most money and it would trickle down from there.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_03]: So there is a lot to unpack here, guys, but what are your first,
- 3:59[SPEAKER_03]: Thoughts reactions to this plan.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: Do you like it?
- 4:01[SPEAKER_03]: Do you not like it?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: Do you understand it?
- 4:03[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think it can happen?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_03]: Jane?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I definitely think it can happen My first reaction was $2 billion a lot of walking around money But at what cost you know reminds me of an episode of Shark Tank, you know those guys and the women on on that panel who are considering Giving money to a business
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: They don't do that out of kindness.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: They want something in return.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: They want to return on their investment, and they want a percentage of control.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, the main question is,
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: What amount of money is a big can actually going to get?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: And what amount?
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: What percentage of control does it have to give up?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Dan and Pete did a great job on that story for ESPN.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of big broad stroke information.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: but the big 10 obviously didn't offer many details on the particulars and to me the main particular is what percentage of control would the big 10 have to give up?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: And once you give up control, once you give up yourself determination, you can't get it back.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: So there is it's a it's a
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's a huge decision for the Big Ten, and it just can't be about money.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they can get a lot of money doing this, but at what cost.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then the other questions I had fellas was, does this go purely into the athletic departments?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: Does it help stabilize tuition on campus?
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: Does it pay down the debt for the universities?
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: What exactly are they going to get out of it?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then finally,
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Does that just mean Ohio State and Michigan?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: Does Penn State squeeze in there?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what's the cut off?
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: And how does that work?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: What's the trickle down effect?
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of questions still to be answered.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: But number one is, once you do this, you can not go back.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think this is something that's been going on in the background for the big tin for several months now.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Tony Petiti, he kind of buried it with the die tribes on the cod school playoff, but he even mentioned it back in Las Vegas during media days.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: That this was, you know, he threw a line in there, you know, during his opening speech to say, hey, we're also, you know, still exploring this.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't seem like, you know,
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: those conversations are getting a little bit more serious, but it also remind me and to your point pat, you know, this is uh, 20 Petidias is a guy that is sat in major league baseball and and sat there watching the commissioner of major league baseball, you know, work for owners, and this seems like a very working for owners type of move in terms of, hey, I need to give you guys more money, I need to find ways to unearth more money and
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a way in, you know, P investing in not only college sports, but investing in sports itself has been a big trend these last couple of years, you know, this similar deals have been done and especially in European soccer right now with with La Liga and the Bundesliga tried to do it.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: We've had other, you know, ventures that a lot of these funds have tried to do across the pond and now they're they're coming to college sports and, you know, the one thing that I I was told quite a bit and talking with a lot of folks around not only the story, but the last couple months.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: These guys do not lose.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: That was the one thing that kept I kept getting it iterated.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: These guys do not lose.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: They do not walk away on the losing hand.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think if you're any of these schools, that is something that you better be keeping in mind to Juno's point.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Everything that they do is so that they get a return on their investment.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: and you got to be prepared to deal with that.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are some cases where maybe this does make sense.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe more in a limited scale in terms of, all right, let's go in to redo, you know, refurbish or sweet level.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do something in a more limited venture in terms of ticketing.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: We saw Penn State and UCLA kind of go down that road with elevate.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: earlier this summer, but this is a thing that I think for a conference wide thing.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's coming down the pipe at some point, whether the victim is the first mover we'll see, but this is something that college athletics is going to have to explore and going to have to deal with for the coming months, and it's not going to be just the big ten.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_03]: No, you're correct about that.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this, this is I've had this described by many people as inevitable and somebody had to be first and it looks like the big 10 might be, but everybody is at least twing with the concept, listening to pitches, considering at the big 12, Brett Yormark, like the idea of a private equity investment in the conference.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_03]: And he got, he got pushed back from his league members.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: And so that didn't happen there.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_03]: Floor to state,
- 8:57[SPEAKER_03]: talked about it as an individual university athletic department Greg Sanky's been pretty outspoken against the idea as outspoken as he gets he's measured in everything he says but he's he's been very consistently wary I think he would say of what you give up when you go in with private equity is as Jean said look I mean
- 9:21[SPEAKER_03]: they're not in the charity business they're in the profit business and they will make a profit this you know the goal is win win everybody makes a profit but if it has to be they win and the rest of everybody else loses okay they'll do that so you know I I understand and one of the things that that kind of became clear I think in Pete and Dan's story is
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: that this they're still trying to sell like the Michigan's in Ohio states on this idea that it's more maybe attractive to the lower two thirds or three fourths of the 18 team league and you look I mean you're Illinois and you've got hundreds of millions of dollars in facility debt or I mean pick any school Scott Doctorman of the the athletic did a good story in August
- 10:09[SPEAKER_03]: kind of detailing some of the facility dead at some of the places and all of a sudden here's how many says here's a hundred million dollars we're gonna give to you and just make things go away make some of your problems go away but other problems come with it other complications uh... question for you guys here do you think
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: is this really the kind of thing that can forced all a super leak as has been positive that the if you extend the grant of rights that this would would make the you know the much theorized idea of further consolidation into 30 or 40 programs that matter and everybody else is pushed to the side is this something that keeps that at bay or not Brian Avenue thoughts there.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll see, you know, I think the details and the actual, how they structure this is going to be a key factor in that.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think it necessarily, you know, rules out any kind of realignment or anything like that.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you're North Carolina right now, if you're Virginia right now, and the big ten is doing the steel and
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: they still want you to come and come 2031, 2032 or whatever.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're still taking that invite, you know, if they offer it, you're still trying to get on the ship somehow.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's going to be key for a lot of these schools.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Even if they don't see, you know, the revenue benefits of a deal like this, they're probably still going to try to jump into the big 10 or the SEC.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think it necessarily kind of heads off realignment.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: It might settle down the landscape just a little bit.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it'll be interesting to see,
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: you know, is there any kind of, you know, extension with Fox and NBC and CBS as part of that grant of rights extension.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be key as well for the big 10.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think it necessarily heads anything off.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think if anything, it kind of brings, brings that super league back into into play for just the big 10 and the SEC right now in terms of, hey, we're still this place to be and we're going to be the place to be for another decade.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: So if you want to jump
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not sure I can answer that until I see if another conference does this.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if the SEC does it, and you've got the SEC in the big ten well,
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: now we're talking.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm not even sure if this how this will play out as you mentioned in the big 10 we've already had some pushback by Michigan region.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: Now what sort of power does one Michigan region have on this?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: He went public, but internally, non publicly, what sort of discussions are being made?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: And just to circle back a little bit on another point you made,
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: which had depended so much on federal money to sort of support itself, especially in research and academics, and now they don't have it.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: And now there's a private equity fund that's going to give us $100 million, that's going to get the attention of us of a university like Northwestern.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of moving parts in this and I just I think this is stage one of the story, a really interesting timing on the story and a lot of intrigue.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot more to find out, like I said, the story is short on details.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: Because I'm sure the big ten was short on details of saying how this is going to work.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: And hopefully, eventually, we figure that out.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_03]: The tiered revenue,
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: is obviously an interesting part of that.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_03]: And it seems very much like a potential carrot to get Michigan and Ohio State.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_03]: And yes, maybe Penn State, maybe Oregon or USC, I don't know, to buy into this.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_03]: But then what sort of effect does that have on the, the chemistry and cohesion and stability of the league?
- 13:57[SPEAKER_03]: One thing we saw,
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: the ACC go to court and eventually have to give in to Florida State and the Clemson in terms of uneven revenue distribution, not just for success, but for TV ratings, which I thought was pretty remarkable.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_03]: If you go back to the big 12 and the whole, you know, they simmering fury over Texas's
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: tier 3 media rights and the longhorn network and the perceived advantage they got there.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: The more things are uneven within the conference, the less stable the conference is, I think.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: But is that, I'll ask you guys, is that just the price of doing business these days when the people that have the ability to flex and to get the leverage will do so?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, they're definitely using their leverage.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: There's no doubt about that.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think if you're Ohio State and Michigan and the collegiality of these conferences that has, you know, subsided really, you know, pretty heavily the last side, I would say 15, 20 years, you know, there's, there's definitely some pushing of the weight around.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, you know, the Indiana's, the Northwestern's, the producer of the world, they're not pushing back, you know, that's the other thing too, is they're saying, hey, we are just happy to be here.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so there's not a whole lot of, you know, if you're doing this year run in the lead type of conversations going back at them.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that's that to me is sticks out as well as there's there's not the pushback you would kind of expect.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is why the Mexicans in Ohio states the world, they've always kind of gotten their way and in places like the big tin, Texas in Ohio State or Texas in Oklahoma have always thrown their way around and in their conference.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that, that has really been underscored, I think, the last couple of years in college athletics, that these guys with, if they set their mind to doing something, they're going to end up doing it and there's not much anybody can do to stop it.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, look, I guess I'm a romantic when it comes to college football and probably naive and outdated, but how many yachts do you need to ski behind before you have enough money?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what comes after private equity?
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: Then what Tony Petiti?
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what are you going to do next?
- 16:07[SPEAKER_02]: When does it stop?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: And is any of this going to trickle
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't profess to understand all the details of it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a financier, but it just like what after this then and at what cost?
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm very interested in hearing the details as this unfolds and to see, again,
- 16:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm with you there where you know that's the thing they I mean the big ten media deals you know the biggest by five billion dollars I mean it was phenomenal there was the gusshire of money that was going to change everything well that's apparently not enough so we got to do the private equity thing and I just you know I think with Petiti my feeling is that
- 17:04[SPEAKER_03]: He looks at the differences between college sports and pro sports and sees a weakness, a problem, something to change to make it more like pro sports.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: And there's probably a lot of us to like now, kind of like the inefficiency and the sloppiness and the mayhem that comes with college athletics, as opposed to producing
- 17:25[SPEAKER_03]: semi-professional sports.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: So this is going to be a fascinating topic.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: We will be discussing this, I think, probably for quite a while on the podcast.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_03]: So stay tuned on that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_03]: Now we can get to the the original scheduling of the show.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_03]: And I did want to actually, I was planning to open by asking you guys if either of you was running for public office.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_03]: Anybody want to throw their hat in the ring because this seems like a a banner time for sports opinion havers to suddenly try politics people, you know, I Steven I Smith should run for president and oh Paul fine bomb our friend from the SEC network all but through his hat in the ring as an Alabama senatorial candidate.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: in the state where Tommy Tubberville's a center, maybe the governor, you know, I guess why not.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: But we do have some good insight on this show, not from me, not from Brian, but from Gene on Paul Feinbaum, he wrote a book with Feinbaum.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, what do you make of this news?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: My conference can be your conference available on Amazon.com.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you'd like to order former New York Times best seller.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Paul, as we all know, it is an interesting dude.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: And he's a, he's a contrarian in so many different ways.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: He is an accidental sports broadcaster and sports rider.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: If you go back,
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: And as we did with his memoir, you know, his mom was a liberal Democrat.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: His father was a liberal, his mom worked in voting poll places.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: Their dinner table was often dominated by talk of politics.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: If you ask Paul, would he rather attend game seven of a world series?
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: or the Democratic or Republican national conventions, he would have taken the convention.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: he wanted to march after Martin Luther King was assassinated, he wanted to march and Memphis with the civil rights groups.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: He did not as as a young kid and it's been a regret of his.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: He was a political science major at Tennessee and in a perfunctory way, a prelaw student at Tennessee.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: Politics really I think is more at his core
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: been sports has ever been.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: It just turned out he was really good about talking about sports and and built this cottage industry and sort of this empire.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: So while a lot of other people might have been shocked by the news that he was contemplating this, I really wasn't.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised I guess but not shocked.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know if he's actually going to do it.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: There's a January
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: But he knows a lot of people on both sides of the aisle and obviously I would assume he's talked to Tommy Tubberville about this and I assume he's talked to a lot of Republican and Democrat people about this run, but you don't say what he said.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: just to sort of dip your toes in it.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: This sounds more serious to me than just kickin' the tires on it.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a fascinating story, but hey, look, you mentioned it.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: If Steven A. can do it, if Bruce Pearl can contemplate, make it a run at that same Centaurial seat, why not Paul Feinbaum these days?
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, kind of maybe wonder, who else is next in this line, you know, is this my gun these next move, you know, you know, Oklahoma and really given his record against Oklahoma and owe you itself, you know, he could probably get a few votes from the sooner or two if my said it to run run there in Oklahoma, but I'm mostly just bummed if this does end up happening that we will not get Tommy Tubberville versus Paul.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: in some sort of primary like that to me would have been great like could you imagine the ads that campaign you know Tommy in the pine box like that that would be bound to resurface if These two were were going at it so that that's kind of the the only bummer in this whole situation is that they're not that not running directly against each other as they
- 21:58[SPEAKER_00]: end up doing this, but, you know, honestly, you know, he might have more power and a bigger platform right now, not only in that state, but in that footprint, given as roles there at ESPN and the SEC network, you know, he can make athletic directors change their minds or do something, you know, right now.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a powerful thing in the South as we all know in terms of that the power of SEC football.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: So that is probably something that in the back of his mind, you know, do I have a bigger platform?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Do I want to go do more things like,
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: Steven A. In terms of, yes, I can still move light and do things with the S.C.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: network and do my show and all that and also I can maybe branch out and things and I don't know the structure of his, his actual deal with the S. P.N.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: but I'm sure that's on the table if he, even if he doesn't decide to run, I'm sure that's something that he might might be venturing into, which will be a new, new avenue.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think for a lot of folks watching him and
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Worst case, I still think if he does end up running, if he just as long as he has the show going five days a week and the callers can still get into him, I think that will be worth the entertainment factor on any sort of campaign that he has.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I sense it's going to be either or.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you're going to have Senator and talk show host Paul fine bomb.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: But we'll see.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_03]: I know this.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: I would not like to run against the acid tongue to Paul fine bomb because especially in a debate format where he thinks well on his feet on the air five days a week.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, boy, he could come at you.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_03]: an interesting time to a completely switch careers and get into politics, but as Gene noted this, he's not like a political neophyte, he at least understands and follows it closely.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_03]: We will follow that closely itself just to see how that one plays out.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: Can't wait to find out.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: But gentlemen, I have to say, I am feeling
- 23:57[SPEAKER_03]: some ranting coming along uh... can't i think it's time for the b.k.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: memorial rant of the week if you can play the sound i'm going f***ing in is that clear if you guys want to go have to be let me know now you're wasting my time get your asses go all right thanks b.k.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_03]: got us fired up i'm ready uh... i want to talk about
- 24:23[SPEAKER_03]: what happened in Virginia and not football, but in New York at Beth Page Black, after what we saw at the end of the game when Virginia upset Florida State.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_03]: We have some sound and some video for that for the YouTube watchers.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_03]: Can't if you want to throw that out there?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: Here comes the blitz, Castellanos.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: In trouble, heaves one towards the end zone.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: And a second!
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: And silver!
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Congratulations, you have to get it!
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, the field storm, in Charlottesville.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_03]: And quite frankly, that was benign video, because that was just people kind of jogging along as opposed to the absolute...
- 25:08[SPEAKER_03]: human wave sprint that went on to the field the minute for the state's last pass went fell in complete and poor squirrel light the receiver on the play was was nearly tri- hit like a squirrel by a bus out there in the end zone.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_03]: Guys that was- look that was dangerous.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: I- I- I mean risk of being the no fun police here, but I- I think that again we've got situations where
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: There is a lot of physical risk involved in these field storms.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen that there were, I think, 19 injuries amongst Virginia students after this.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: Fortunately, I don't believe any of them were major.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_03]: Somehow, none of the players were hurt.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_03]: That was certainly a good thing.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_03]: If you're the visiting team, or if you're, I mean, if you're in one of these and I've been in them, you guys probably have two.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_03]: They're scary.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_03]: They, there is not any control to what's going on, and in some of the video you see from Virginia, some student goes down and is getting hurt and they're trying to stop other people from coming on and there's no stopping them.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I was at it with constant field storm once and I saw somebody pending into railing and I was concerned that person wasn't going to make it.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_03]: They were getting crushed.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, field storms are part and parcel of the passion and the folklore of college sports.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_03]: We see it.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_03]: But is there a way we can do this that keeps everybody protected?
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: I know the SECC's try that, you know, they've got fines and now the ACC has them and Virginia was fine, $50,000 big deal, they'll take that fine.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: But is there a way to do this where we can have the fun of a field strong without the potential danger?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I mean, there's always gonna be the potential danger and you know what I was I was at that same Wisconsin game if we're thinking about the same one I was literally lifted off my feet.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: I had I had no control six to you know two 15 and I was just moved around like a tooth pick there And it was scary.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's the first time I've ever Thought about that sort of thing like someone could
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: could die in this sort of situation.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_02]: It was that sort of crush, you know, you're right, that it's, those are iconic images.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's a celebration.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: It looks really cool.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: it's what helps make college football, college football in a weird way, but we don't need them.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: And you don't see a storming after the Super Bowl and there's a reason for that.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I don't think they're necessary.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you're right, that video was totally benign.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: Squirrel White could have been stampeded.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, can you imagine, I mean, really, the difference between a celebration of tragedy is only a couple seconds.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: And we could have had a tragedy there if Squirrel White had been trampled in hurt.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: And can you imagine how fast the lawsuits would have been filed against UVA and the ACC?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it would have been the University of Squirrel.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: So, to me, there's one way of getting rid of it, and it's pretty severe, but I'll happily join you on the no-fun police squad, and it's forfeit a game.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: If you do it, you forfeit the game, and you'll see how fast that will stop.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: $50,000, are you kidding me?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's nothing.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a severe penalty for fitting a game, but to me it beats the alternative, which is somebody getting seriously hurt.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I would beg the 80s out there that, you know, they do just discuss this in spring meetings and all that.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: That's why the ACCs enacted this policy because they've had issues for the last year in terms of having a lot of these court stormings or field stormings and issues in that conference.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why there's now a fine structure for that.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: And the ACC has had it forever.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: But the 80s got to understand, you know, it's not, all right, I got to pay for 50 extra security guards in those yellow shirts.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's not going to stop.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: students are making their minds up to go down the field.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to get on the field.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think this Virginia one was just particularly dangerous given the structure and the set up there at the stadium.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they really got to consider is the stadium.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_00]: There needs to be some more physical barriers.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: There needs to be more physical.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, things put up just to funnel the, you know, I mean, that's the biggest issue.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there, there's going to be a Hillsborough tragedy, you know, in college football.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they don't, they're taking this seriously.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, it is part of the sport.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's been, you know, the images are great for the broadcasters and everybody's like, you know, in euphoria after one of these wins.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, safety needs to come first.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: I would beg the 80s out there in particular to start thinking about how your stadium is set up.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: If you got staircases and all that, you know, is there going to be crunch points?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Are there going to be issues in terms of getting players off to the field?
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's only one or two tunnels.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of issues that I think 80s need to consider, especially when they are hosting these high profile games.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's that mean the boy the Virginia set up it was just right for that because I mean there is nothing between those students coming off the hill and the field So that clearly was an issue and there's other places too, where it's yes, it's probably way too easy to get down there But the thing is yeah, they're gonna try to get down there and that was the part of the thing like if the Wisconsin game the gene that we're talking about where students are coming over a railing
- 30:55[SPEAKER_03]: from, and they're five or six feet up and there's a hesitation there, am I going to do this?
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: And then all of a sudden there's 50 people pushing you from behind and you're trapped.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, there's danger no matter what.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: And it is, I think Gene, your point is valid that the only, the only deterrent is a really strong deterrent.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_03]: Um, you know, the SEC actually talked about and, and I know that like the schools that get stormed, Alabama, Georgia, in particular, we're in
- 31:26[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, if not, you forfeit again, you lose the home game next time you play that team, that, you know, if, if, if Mississippi State storms on you, then Mississippi State, the next time they play you, they it's not at their place when it's supposed to be there.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was a pretty interesting idea.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: It is.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody was going for that.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_03]: That's a multimillion dollar hit to your home revenue.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_03]: Um, as opposed to a lawsuit as opposed to a look.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, you're right.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_03]: Like in general college sports has gotten lucky that there haven't been more tries you can you can find you can find stories from 2030 years ago people getting paralyzed by a falling crossbar of a of a goal post or something like that.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_03]: So there there have been some tragic circumstances, but it's been pretty lucky that it hasn't been
- 32:14[SPEAKER_03]: worse than it is, which real quick, I want to dovetail the reason I kind of put these two things together after watching the Ryder Cup.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_03]: uh... forget the golf which was quite interesting but the the fan behavior was unbelievable uh... and got worse i think is the americans just started getting their tales kick to start and the amount of abuse i think that was thrown at the european's particular roaring mackerel way uh... and just kind of maybe some of the entitlement to i can say anything i want because i bought a ticket to be here
- 32:53[SPEAKER_03]: a great trend, and I think this expectation, well, if you don't, if you don't put up with it, you're soft, you know, golf is a different deal.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_03]: And Jean, you know, you've covered a lot of high, high level golf, and it is different.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_03]: And you are right there face to face with the gallery.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: And that's one of the reasons it's great when you're a golfer.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_03]: But I think
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: disconnect between, I can say anything I want and the golfers just have to take it.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I'm just curious if you guys had any reaction to that.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there was a tipping point and I don't know exactly when it happened.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it was war in the shore, a keelah, or I don't know exactly when this changed, but it did.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: And at this most recent one, you had a PGA of America sort of MC leading
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: uh, on the first T. I mean, like, what, what are we doing?
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's, uh, it was beyond embarrassing, and if I'm being totally truthful, I found myself rooting for the European team just based on the borish.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: off the scale of obscenities thrown at these players from the American crowd, and it just, it was, it was despicable.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: And we just can't, golf was supposed to be the gentleman's sport, but it's trickling down to other sports and you hit it.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's like this idea that I,
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: and you can't stop me and we just we got to start stopping it.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's not sports anymore.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: You know sports has a level of sportsmanship and we've lost that and it was really disturbing.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's the first time I've ever turned off the rider cup because I just couldn't listen to it anymore.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe I'm soft but I'm okay with that because I just thought it was entirely despicable.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm right there with you and I mean, we kind of need to bring back shame a little bit to some of these fan events like that that's the thing like if if you if your neighbors are are saying cut it out stop it, but but people are not doing that anymore.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think there's been a blurring almost of what you say online what you can can tweet out there.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: And what's happening in reality, there's no filter anymore.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: And especially when proud in New York has, as a few extra beverages, and they're in this environment and they're fired up in their charge, there's that filter that breakdown, that mental block, if you will, to stop saying these things that you might have in your head, they're coming out now.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think we need to kind of bring back almost a little bit of shame in these galleries, in fan sections,
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: pretty much everywhere.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is not just a golf thing, you know, you're hearing at football games.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now you're hearing it, you know, thrown at these athletes, especially in college sports.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they're 18 to 24, you know, and they're hearing a lot of crazy things.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the thing that we really need to stop, and this is not a limited epidemic to just a golf.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: No, by no means.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: It does remind me too, the one of the scenes from Charlottesville, host came as some Florida State staffers trying to get Tommy's cast Alano's, the quarterback off the field.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_03]: And some fan goes by flipping him the bird and filming himself flipping him the bird.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, what are we doing here?
- 36:28[SPEAKER_03]: You are not some tough guy here, Rowe.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_03]: You're taunting somebody who just lost that game.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: Can you just go be happy for your team winning?
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: as opposed to taunting the losing quarterback there uh it's a lot it's a lot speaking of a lot uh there's a new uh interim coach at Arkansas don't know if you guys heard fellow named Bobby Patrino writing well into the head coaches office yeah yeah
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I think I, I think I can handle this, uh, this rant on my own here fellas, but having covered Bobby since 2003, really before that when he was offensive coordinator, John or John else Smith at, uh, at Louisville, uh, uh,
- 37:19[SPEAKER_03]: Bobby has always been the kind of guy who was really good at his job and really bad at dealing with human beings as a decent person.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_03]: I know that at one point part of his performance review at Louisville was stop being a jerk.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_03]: So that was kind of, you know, that's who he was.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's who he's been and he has found his way.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: He's won a lot of games.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: He's put up a lot of numbers and he's had a lot of stuff happen along the way.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: And virtually every job he has had has ended badly.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_03]: And none of them ended worse than his time at Arkansas the first time when he was good.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_03]: And he was winning games and they were finished one year in the top five, which had Arkansas ain't easy to do.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_03]: We know about the Harley ride and him lying about the Harley ride and who was with him on the Harley ride and who was somebody he put on his staff and gave a $20,000 gift to when it was really a romantic relationship.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_03]: So he had to go and it was an embarrassing episode for Arkansas.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_03]: And so for him not to be back.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_03]: First of all, when they hired him as offensive coordinators like, are you kidding me?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: This is the only guy he can find who can call plays.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: You got to bring him back and that he would want to go back as well.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: The lack of shame, Brian, put about shame.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's no shame on either side of that question.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_03]: And now we've taken it up another level by making him the interim coach and as soon as Bobby got hired there, I thought it was like, okay, the Vulture is sitting on the on the tree now waiting for the carry on down below and that's Sam Pittman, who is going to get fired and Bobby has now swooped in and taken over and
- 39:00[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get consideration to be the head coach.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_03]: I just wonder Arkansas, is it really worth it?
- 39:06[SPEAKER_03]: Do you have to?
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: Do you have to?
- 39:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you do.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think you can find another good coach there.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_03]: But, when I ask you guys now regarding jobs, we have seen
- 39:23[SPEAKER_03]: Vanderbilt of all places, start 5-0.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_03]: We have seen Indiana, start 5-0.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_03]: The Andy Plays probably its biggest game in school history, Saturday at Alabama.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you may be able to find something from 1941, that was a bigger game.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_03]: Fine, go ahead.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_03]: But to be 5-0 of a ranked number 16, playing an Alabama team that you beat last year,
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: uh... is fascinating indiana has a huge game next week both gonna be top ten against organ they don't play this week so they're guaranteed they are into that game as a top ten showdown for a long time guys maybe forever those have been the two worst jobs in those leagues vanabelt worse by far in the SEC indiana worst maybe not by far but probably the worst in the big ten for forty years fifty
- 40:22[SPEAKER_03]: those are dead end programs in the respective leagues.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: Now, given how fast things can change, do we need to rethink what's a good job or a bad job?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, your thoughts.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm totally with you.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: What Kurt Signetti and Clark Lee have done at Indiana and Vanderbilt respectively is
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: Miraculous and James Franklin before, uh, during his stint at Vandy, uh, but to me, a successful program, a good job is built on the idea of sustainability.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: Can you, do you have a chance to win every year?
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: Do you give your does your program is it built in a way that you can make a run, a serious, a semi-serious run on a consistent basis?
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure IU and Vandy are at that point, just yet.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the first to acknowledge that Lee and Signetti have done absolute wonders there.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: But if they left tomorrow, what would happen to both of those programs?
- 41:36[SPEAKER_02]: Secondly, if you were to rank both of those programs right now, even given the successes
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Would you rank them in the top 10?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: Would you rank Vanity in the top 10 of the SEC?
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: Would I, you be in the top 10?
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it, I think that'd be a bit of a stretch.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: So if you can't say they're even in the top 10 right now,
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: then is it a good job?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that Signetti and Lee have done not only a good job, but an unbelievable job.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: But is that more of a situation whereby the power of their personalities and their just their skill set, they were able to make this work?
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: Or does the next guy coming in?
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: Is Indiana in Vanderbilt?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: Is the infrastructure so good now?
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: that they can sustain the success.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just not ready to say, either one of those programs is there just yet, based on, I mean, if you look at what Vandy spends, what it has available to it on its roster compared to what maybe Bama spending, Vandy's on the lower end of that conference.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_02]: And Indiana is spending more money,
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: but compared to Penn State or Michigan or Ohio State, is it as competitive, I would argue no.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm giving them all the credit in the world for what they've done.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just not sure it's still a good job, per se.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: And Pat, you didn't even mention another job that we've spoken with about quite a few times in terms of text tech, you know, that historical success has been lacking there in love, aside of a few breath flourishes there during Mike leaches tenure, but I'm look, I think the nature of these jobs has changed undoubtedly the talent acquisition piece, though that that is what has changed the most and allowed, you know, a Vanity and Indiana to kind of come on to the scene like this.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you used to be so tied to your recruiting footprint, you know, in the end it was just not able to go out to California and land a guy or go down to Florida and you know, with with some success.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: But now now they can't, you know, I think the geography piece matters less to the kids nowadays more than anything and then you layer on top of it the fact that
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of these offers, you know, it's going to go to the highest bidder.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this is very much like the pros, you know, in terms of free agency, everybody would talk about, all right, well, would you want to go to an organization like the Steelers or the Cowboys and just think about how much extra money you can make, you know, off the field.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, all right, well, if Seattle comes in with a bigger offer, you're probably going to go to the sea hocks.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is that kind of mentality now as filtered down to the college level.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of these kids, you know, if it does come down to frankly, you know,
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to take it, even if that is across the country, even if it is in the city and conference, but in a different spot, the town acquisition piece has changed significantly to allow these stories to flourish.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_00]: And to me, that has changed the nature of these jobs in particular.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: You can win in places where historically you were pushing the boulder up the hill.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what has been
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: you know part part of the story right now and it also part of this coaching cycle that we're going to see coming up as well you know people are going to consider all right are the resources there is the booster backing I mean we're talking about Arkansas before you know I think the you know historic success sure that they've had it in infleating moments but the boosters were not all pulling the same way
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're in faith filled and I think there's there's some hope with this potential in term higher or somebody in a more permanent spot That the all those boosters can start contributing to the football program like they maybe you have not been these last couple of years Understand, Pippman.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the nature of these jobs has changed and the nature of the kids have changed and that's kind of leading to a lot of these moments And really leading to a lot of hope across college football where even if you're down one year you can be winning in the next
- 45:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that gets get kind of how I feel about this is that.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: Gene, your word sustainable.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think the number of sustainable programs is pretty small.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: A couple in each of the power conferences.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: maybe three or four and after that I think it's as wildly fluid and I think you can go from 18th to 4th or 5th or 6th in your league or 16th as the case may be and I think that maybe the way things are going to be as long as the economics of the sport are the way they are and yes I think Texas Tech is a great example of we got a bunch of boosters with some money
- 46:22[SPEAKER_03]: Are they going to do that in perpetuity?
- 46:23[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to be, you know, these boo same boosters going to be given that much money for 30 years and Texas tech's going to become a power in the state of Texas.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: But I do think the combination of lightning in a bottle with the right coaching higher.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_03]: and then you go get the right quarterback you get Diego Pavia and he brings Jerry Killing everything just kind of all of a sudden happens at Vanderbilt or at in the end of you get 10 guys from James Madison and they can all play and you go get a free aging quarterback from California and you give a corner who maybe a first round pick from Miami and all of a sudden
- 47:03[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my God, we're good.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_03]: And then the fans will like it.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_03]: And then what's the carryover effect?
- 47:10[SPEAKER_03]: Then there's a lot of money in Vanderbilt.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: Down, does that money care about football?
- 47:16[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe not.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_03]: This might be something they're what, you know, Vandy alums are sitting there watching.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, this is nice.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_03]: But then okay, is it nice enough?
- 47:23[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to help fund our house revenue
- 47:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I, yes, look, Michigan, Ohio State Penn State, the way Oregon is USC, they should all be sustainable.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama, Georgia, Texas, sustainable, but even at some of the, you know, Texas A&M has squandered money for decades.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_03]: So the ability to just to hit it right, and again, it may not be for a long period of time, but to be able to hit it right for two, three,
- 48:04[SPEAKER_03]: four years and move yourself up for a while but then yeah the elevator can go back down and I think that's what we're going to see a lot in college sports is you're here today you're gone tomorrow and that's just going to be it's going to be a more fluid situation.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah well and I'm just saying that that IU and Vandy have nailed it they've hit the portal right they've got the right coaches they have the support system right now
- 48:31[SPEAKER_02]: but does that make it a good job?
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, if you can guarantee me that Texas Tech is gonna have that money flowing in there for the next 10 years, yeah, that's a great job.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'd love to be the coach there, but would you rather be the coach at Mizzou or Vandy?
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: South Carolina or Vandy.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: Iowa or IU, Nebraska or IU.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess those are the kind of questions I'm asking and maybe I'm thinking in a traditional sense and you're thinking more in a gorilla warfare sense where successes measured by having a window that's two or three years where we're successful.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: And then maybe we have some challenges, but it's worth having those two or three years and take our chances.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess I'm thinking more in traditional terms, you guys might be thinking more in those two, three, four-year areas where you have that success.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_00]: One and keep in mind too.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: I would just say that it helps to be at places like Indiana and Vanderbilt in terms of if you're head coach that the reason why they're also maybe an extra bit of incentive to take these jobs is that if you have a step back if you have a bad year and in the midst of winning 10 games or winning eight nine 10 games.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: you're going to get a little bit of a leeway because of that, you know, I think that's the thing if you are a crit signetti and maybe maybe a Penn State, maybe a Florida comes in offering, you know, you're expected to win consistently at a high level every single season at those places in those big time jobs that we are, we do know ours is sustainable.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: If you're at an Indiana and you have a dip, you go back to six and six or seven and five, you know what, I think a lot of people could live with that more so than if you are in some of those bigger, more sustainable jobs.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_03]: note out about like Kurt's magnetic and stay at Alabama for a decade.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_03]: This, even if he doesn't have another winning season, I am reasonably sure that winning was it now 16 of his first 18 games on the job.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't happen there.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: So he's got some job security.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: Now who knows?
- 50:39[SPEAKER_03]: James Franklin goes to Florida and he wants to go to Penn State and then we find out exactly how good the job is because it wouldn't be as good as Penn State.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_03]: a lot of moving parts there, okay guys, let's pick some games, winners and steak dinners, we will briefly bow down to Jean Wojahowski, this will never happen again, but we will salute his fat bear insight, chunk.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: one fat bear week, despite the broken jaw, epic effort by chunk to winning that they're in the catmipinensula gene congratulations.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: How do you feel?
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: How's the afterglow of winning food?
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know coach course always says when you lose say little and when you win say nothing and I love coach course so but I'm saying something this time all right you guys did not believe in chunk
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: All right, Brian specifically.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, my scouting staff had looked at chunk during the off season.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_02]: And, yes, we were well aware of the broken jaw during the fight in the spring.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: But we liked his rehab program.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_02]: And we felt that he was worth a chance in the portal.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: So we poured some NIL, salmon money at him.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_02]: And we're very happy with what we saw.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_02]: And so this isn't a surprise to us.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: you guys simply didn't believe, and we like players that have some fight in them.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, chunk, we celebrate your fatness and we're really proud of you.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_03]: God, you have listened to way too many coaches over the years.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_03]: That was perfect coach speak after a big win.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_03]: You guys took the area code bears and I know two Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 52:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, all right.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_03]: So Gene now moves that we are counting fat bear.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_03]: Can't I I got to do we are counting fat bear in the standing.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_03]: So Gene moves to the top at 15 and 12.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_03]: Brian 2nd of 14 and 12.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: I am 3rd at 12 and 14.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: We're not even counting our we're not counting it as losses for us.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: Gene just gets an extra half half a win that may end up making a difference here.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but so look, two thirds of us are making you guys money out there if you're listening to our picks, please don't bet what we say, but you know, just in case you are if anybody's paying attention.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's pick the games against the spread here.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's not a great week.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_03]: It's interesting as they all are in college football, but it's not like we're just loaded here.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_03]: But we're going to start with the ACC game that God could have been big if Florida State hadn't coughed up the hairball against Virginia.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_03]: We would have had an old school Miami Florida State game with them both in the top 10.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I looked up
- 53:41[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't find another rivalry situation where both were in the top 10 for as long as Miami and Florida State were in late 80s, early 97 straight years.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_03]: They were both ranked in the top 10.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_03]: Incredible.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_03]: I could found some like Oklahoma, Nebraska of six, and I think maybe a Michigan Ohio State run of five or six, but it was great glory days.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_03]: But man, they're both still good.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_03]: Miami's undefeated Florida State coming back after one loss.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_03]: They're playing in Doke Campbell.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_03]: Florida State is giving for him.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm getting four and a half.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: Geno, who are you picking?
- 54:19[SPEAKER_02]: I still think it's going to be a hell of a game and even with the hairball.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_02]: This is Miami's first road game.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really like what I saw at a Carson Beck in that previous game.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_02]: The Miami's had two weeks get ready for this.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_02]: but I think Florida State could win this thing outright.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm gonna take FSU in the points and feel good about it because I think FSU coming off of that bitter loss at UVA has a lot to play for is gonna be ultra motivated.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_02]: Is that home?
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take the four and a half.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it probably would have been what, two, two and a half, you know, if Florida State ended up beating Virginia in this game, you know, and maybe in their favorite room in home game.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: So you can definitely see that the line swing with Miami, which I will take in this game.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think the in the trenches, you know, this is a team that I think can lean on Florida State, you know, with what they did to Alabama and push them around.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think Miami can do along both lines of skirmish.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I am going to be it's going to be interesting to see, you know, that that Miami offense in particular with Carson Beck, you know, first rogue game, you know, they don't lead the state until later this month.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: So this is a, you know, a big test for them, and I think Mario Christmas will have them ready.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is a rivalry game that means a lot to a lot of kids on that roster, but this is like Miami team that I think is on on the up and up.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_00]: They know what this one means, and I think they, they will be, you know, excited to go in there
- 55:56[SPEAKER_03]: Got a block Rubin bear for the summons.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: We're moving bane.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_03]: So you have bear on the brains.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: Rain on the bear.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's like a bear out there with it.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, club in the arm, you know, Rubin bane.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_03]: Good player for Miami.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm with Jean.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_03]: I think Florida State can not only cover, but perhaps win outright.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_03]: It is Miami's first road test.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of times you see a little shell shock when you go on the road as what happened to the Seminals when they played.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_03]: In Charlottesville, so I'm taking Florida State there, rebound performance for them to at least cover possibly win.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, the game I am covering in Tuscaloosa, Vanderbilt, getting 10 and a half.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_03]: at Alabama.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_03]: I have never covered a Vanderbilt game as a national writer.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_03]: I've covered several of them when I worked for the Louisville Courier Journal and they would play Kentucky and it was the most dismal affair every single year.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_03]: Both teams were usually awful.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_03]: The weather was always bad.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_03]: My how things have changed.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I'm gonna take Bandy to cover here.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's gonna be a close competitive game.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's gonna be a lot of points.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_03]: These are both explosive offences.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_03]: I love what Ty Simpson is doing at Alabama.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's a good player and he's playing extremely well right now.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think a little bit of a let down for the tide coming off the big wind between the hedges.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_03]: And I think Vandy shows up ready to play and at least keeps it close.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm rolling with the doors.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_03]: What do you guys think?
- 57:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm right there with you, I think it's going to be a pretty high scoring game, I think this could be one of those teams where it's almost a track meet, teams going up and down the field and not just Diego Pavia, but there's some weapons that he has out there, and I think this is going to be a very well-prepared bandit team.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to come in there.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: They know they're going to get hit initially by Alabama, given what happened last year, but there's some confidence in that program, and maybe it's the hook that ends up helping them
- 57:53[SPEAKER_02]: a little bit of a let down.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they they lost a vandy last year.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_02]: You don't think they remember that.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: And did you see what what Pavia told on three earlier this week?
- 58:08[SPEAKER_02]: He said, you know, this game's going to be played within the white lines.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: And if we play our game, it won't even be close.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, boy.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that found itself on the on the bulletin boards of the of the Bama locker room as if they didn't have enough motivation to begin with?
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: Now you add that to it.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_02]: Famous has not turned the ball over.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: This season, Ty Simpson is operating at a Pavia-like level.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_02]: That game is obviously at Bama.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_02]: Ten and a half is a lot of points.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I do think it'll be high scoring, but I think Bama has every motivation to try to boat race these guys.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think there's going to be a let down.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going to
- 58:58[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I love Diego Pavia and I know from interviewing him that there is no filter so he will say exactly what he thinks, but I wish he hadn't said that.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that might have been an unspoken thought can be a good thing.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_03]: uh... i uh... the biggest game in the big twelve two undefeated teams from the state of texas texas tech at heustin which is undefeated willy fritz two in the job there in his second year running counterweggman transfer quarterback he's done well texas tech is giving ten and a half Brian who he like
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: give me Houston, just in terms of maybe there's maybe a sneaking suspicion with what the coos there.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Willie Fritz, one of the best coaches around.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: He can muddy this game up.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_00]: He can make it difficult for Texas tacking and Barry Morton's going to play for the Red Raiders.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they did well, you know, and going on the road the first time and you talk a couple of weeks ago that they had the off week.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like they've gotten healthy.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_00]: Talent wise, there's no doubt the red raiders would easily cover this.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I think just this spot seems weird to me.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think, you know, Houston playing at home that they're able to, I think, money the water is enough to cover the 10 and a half.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_02]: be our game those 10 and a half points, but man, I'll take the NIL masters of the universe they're averaging 52 points a game.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're for real.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not scared of giving the points.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take Texas tech.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm with Brian here.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_03]: I do think this is a shortened
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_03]: bottle, take your time, and fewer possessions.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_03]: And I think they're pretty solid.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_03]: I watched them against Colorado.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_03]: They won handily.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_03]: They probably should have won by more than they did.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm impressed with what the coogs are doing.
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going with them and their sweet unice.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_03]: All right, big 10 game.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_03]: Boy, there's no real great games in the big 10.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_03]: So the best I could find was Michigan State
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_03]: she could stay spent pretty explosive under eight and child's a quarterback there on Nebraska has played well lost close at home to Michigan.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_03]: Nebraska still hadn't played a road game or that you unless you count playing Cincinnati in Kansas City, I do not.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, double digit spread here, which of these teams kind of jumps up and says, we're for real in this match up.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_03]: The Spartans or the Corn Oscars, 11 and a half to the number, what do you got, Gene?
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I'm giving a lot of points away this week, but I'm gonna take the children of the corn.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_02]: Both teams have had two weeks to prepare for this game.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_02]: I just can't see Nebraska going O for the state of Michigan.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so again, another flyer, I don't feel strongly about it, but I'll take Nebraska and give the points.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_02]: The double digit point.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_02]: How many games has I've given double digit points in this week?
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're laying the lumber all over the place.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna need chunk again.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_00]: I will go with the Spartans in this one that is a huge number.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_00]: We know big 10 games.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, how many times are they really blowouts between somewhat similar type of programs?
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think Aiden Childs can make some plays against that defense.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_00]: You remember, since an Addy opener for Nebraska, Brandon Sorris, but he was able to run on them.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think Aiden Childs' legs makes a little bit of a difference and they keep this one somewhat close.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_00]: I still think Nebraska wins it.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think Dylan Rail has a big game, but I think Nebraska or Michigan State keeps it close enough
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yep, I'm with you there, Brian.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_03]: I think that that's too big a number.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to let Gene lay the points all over the place.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going with the Spartans to at least keep it close and in what could be issued out.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_03]: All right, lock of the week, who has one?
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead, Brian.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_02]: You're the what up skewer game.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: Do you have this week?
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, I was thinking about going to the Bay Area.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe doing a parlay.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to go up obscure.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to go in the Bay Area, New Mexico State is getting three and a half points at San Jose State.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_00]: Lobos just beat New Mexico State.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: First sell out there.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_00]: Since 2007, Spartans almost beat Stanford last week.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: So that one was was intriguing, but I'm going to go actually across the bay there.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: Duke is giving two and a half points at Cal.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_00]: Give me many deas and that defense going up against a young freshman quarterback that they barely beat B.C.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_00]: Cal did going across the country.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's one of those time zone type of games, but give me Daryne Mensa and Duke given the two and a half.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to keep the theme alive for me this week.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm giving 10 and a half points again.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_02]: This one pains me because I'm an Air Force brat.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm going to take Navy and give the 10 and a half against the Zoomies.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_02]: I love the Zoomies.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm an Air Force kid.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: Dad was a Lieutenant Colonel and Air Force, I mean, love him, but this is business and it's not personal.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_02]: Air Force has given up a million points this year.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_02]: There are 129th in scoring defense and Blake Horvath is the real deal.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll take, I'll take Navy.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_03]: As somebody who went to high school on the base of the Air Force Academy, I hear you in your admiration for the school, but I think you're right there.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_03]: I, Navy's really good.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_03]: Run the service Academy rivalry game.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_03]: I ran away from that one.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to lay the lumber, though, in my block of the week, and I am going against Chappell Bill.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think Clemson.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_03]: comes out of two weeks of abject misery, gets it together, plays better, and drops way more than a 14 point win on North Carolina, which is just a bad team.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_03]: North Carolina has been thumb twice by the two power conference teams they've played, and I think Clemson's probably sitting on its best performance of the year or should be.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_03]: If they're not,
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_03]: So Clemson is my lock of the week giving 14.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_03]: All right, guys, now the last thing we have to do, it's Texas State Fair coming up, right?
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's that time of year where we're getting next work, we're getting red river.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_03]: Brian's gonna be down there, I believe.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_03]: And the food is ridiculous.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_03]: Some of it sounds wonderful.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_03]: Some of it sounds a horrifying.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna give you a few options here.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_03]: You tell me, would you eat it?
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, start with this.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'll read a brief description.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_03]: Cornbread doughnut.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_03]: I've blended with a southern cornbread mix and classic cake batter, then topped with an added touch of omnisch rich.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_03]: The omnisch inspired richness.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_03]: It looks like like raspberry compote and some blueberries and some whipped cream and stuff.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_03]: Do you want to mix cornbread with like that sort of stuff?
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_03]: Brian, what do you think?
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not only am I going to redriver and going to the state fair, there might be some video coming on s.com and our YouTube pages of me actually eating a lot of this stuff, and this will be on the to do list.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think it will work.
- 1:06:24[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what the ultimate in result is, but count me as a yes for that one.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_02]: Texas state fairs like the angel plastic capital of the world is it's the only place for cardiologists hand out their business cards to people that are standing line.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_02]: But yes, I would eat that and that might be one of the few things that's not fried at the Texas state fair.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_02]: That that actually doesn't sound too bad.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think I would try it as well.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_03]: All right, here's something that is fried deep fried carbonara a cheesy spaghetti carbonara
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_03]: bread dough.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_03]: We get bacon's Italian cousin Guntziale.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_03]: I'm probably pronouncing it wrong.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_03]: Meets pecorino moront romano.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_03]: This is like the folks who write the ad the copy for this are ridiculous.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, deep fried carbonara, Gina in her out.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_02]: My arteries were hardening as you're reading that description.
- 1:07:22[SPEAKER_02]: And yet, I would still happily give it a try.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm the same.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_00]: I would definitely give it a try.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_00]: I will say the kind of like these type of things where they are kind of deep fried and they're kind of like in these balls.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're kind of a little bit overrated.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: I would say as fair food because it just at some point it's just almost too hot.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_00]: You got to get a lot of cool down, but I will definitely give it a try.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's some of the stuff is a little bit overrated, but Mark, we down for a yes on that one.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_02]: You got a branch out from the funnel cage Brian.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not touching the funnel cake that's for like the five and six year olds that are and are walking around the fairgrounds there.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_03]: How about you, Pat?
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, it's the Texas State for you have to eat something deep fried.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I'm in on that.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_03]: I would try it.
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_03]: All right, here's a drink and food.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_03]: Frozen pickle back.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_03]: This is an alcoholic beverage.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_03]: If you've ever had pickle back.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_03]: So that's what we're starting with here.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_03]: And this is pickle juice.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_03]: The sweeter and spicier, they have added a deal pickle itself, served with a Tahine spice on the rim.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_03]: And of course, you know, whatever the alcohol is in there, shot of vodka, whiskey, or whatever the heck you want, are either of you going to walk around the state fair, holding a frozen pickle back and drinking it, not a chance.
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_00]: not a chance.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, I'm not a pickle person, you know, like my wife, she's the one that eats all the pickle chips and all that since she would try to love this, but not a chance that I would ever be, number one, walking around the safe air with anything other than a nice beer, but this, this is a little bit too much.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_02]: That sounds like a well drink kind of thing, you know,
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_02]: alcohol poured into it.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_02]: No, it sounds like a bad hangover on its way.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think, you know, I agree that look, if you're going to the state fair and you're going to drink, it's not going to be that.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_03]: There's going to be other options that are going to be better.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, give me a Margarita, give me a beer, something, but if I do not think of this year too.
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_00]: So there will be plenty of people walking around with some of Africa's.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_03]: Ox-tailed cornbread sliders.
- 1:09:41[SPEAKER_03]: burger, apparently not.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_03]: Does anybody want an ox tail cornbread slider?
- 1:09:49[SPEAKER_03]: God no.
- 1:09:51[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know it.
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_02]: An ox tail.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's the one thing that I know isn't going to taste like chicken.
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_03]: I'll try it, sure.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_03]: We're not.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm like I'm a sucker for sliders of any kind, but probably not that for me.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_03]: Last thing, what on earth is this?
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_03]: That is what it's called.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_03]: What on earth is this?
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_03]: A UFO-shaped
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_03]: and also includes colorful vegetables and it's nestled in a buttery bun.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_03]: It could be seasoned with fiery green chili.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_03]: It looks very weird.
- 1:10:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how it tastes would either of you go there.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_02]: You had me, then you lost me on the veggies.
- 1:10:54[SPEAKER_02]: So no, but I will give it 10 and a half points.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give it everybody 10 and a half points this way.
- 1:11:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's a rise you didn't go the one right above that on the list pad is the vegan country up supreme I think they would have been a more interesting thing I think if you could like separate this one out you know you could you know where you get the chicken off to the side and then you maybe mix it up one bite of the whole thing might be interesting I would at least try it especially on somebody's time.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_03]: I would put it this way.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_03]: I would eat that before.
- 1:11:25[SPEAKER_03]: I would eat the vegan crunch wrap Supreme or the Oxetail or the Oxetail.
- 1:11:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, good call.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_03]: That's our show.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's enough for Ridiculousness.
