- 1:11Speaker 1: are you? Hey? Everyone, this shit girl SC Book y'all
- 1:28Speaker 1: eight four three, And it's another beautiful Tuesday. Oh my god,
- 1:33Speaker 1: you guys, it was so pretty today in Charleston, so beautiful.
- 1:40Speaker 1: But I was homeworking and then I had CPR training,
- 1:45Speaker 1: and then I realized I don't have them getting little
- 1:49Speaker 1: knees no more. I don't have them them supersonic knees
- 1:56Speaker 1: no more. I just don't have no more, y'all. It's
- 1:58Speaker 1: it's it's trouble. Okay. So I did miss CPR training.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I passed it, Okay, cool, fine, dandy. But then I'm
- 2:08Speaker 1: kind of like resting my knees right now because God
- 2:10Speaker 1: knows it hurts. But I know y'all don't want to
- 2:13Speaker 1: hear about my knees and stuff, but I just had
- 2:15Speaker 1: to get that out the way. So how are you doing?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Tell me? Okay, okay, well I have them, then I'm
- 2:25Speaker 1: very glad that you're doing good. And if you're not
- 2:27Speaker 1: doing good, we're gonna make it better. Tonight because I
- 2:30Speaker 1: have an author that is here releasing her eighth book. No,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I didn't say first, I didn't say second. I said
- 2:39Speaker 1: her eighth book, you guys, and it's her first podcast show.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So I am so honored to have her with me tonight.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Then on top of that, we get it before it
- 2:54Speaker 1: comes out. The book is not supposed to be releasing too.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think it said the sixteenth, so we have the
- 3:00Speaker 1: honor of having it before it is released. But with
- 3:06Speaker 1: all that being said, let me tell you a little
- 3:08Speaker 1: bit about our friend, Miss t Ashley. Okay, she's a
- 3:12Speaker 1: storyteller at heart. She blames heart pounding thrillers, steaming romance
- 3:18Speaker 1: with just a dash of hidden magic. And I did
- 3:23Speaker 1: ask her about the hood magic, so I'm gonna find out,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you guys find out. Okay. Her characters are messy, magnetic,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and black on purpose. Okay, whether you're flipping pages at
- 3:37Speaker 1: two am or clutching your chest at the twist you
- 3:41Speaker 1: didn't see coming, Welcome to the world of Tea Ashley.
- 3:45Speaker 1: She was born in Connecticut, raising imagination. She's the author
- 3:51Speaker 1: of When Lies Forget Miss and Jesus Missing, Dating Jessica Brown,
- 3:57Speaker 1: Capturing Celeste, and more. When she's not writing, she's manifesting
- 4:03Speaker 1: dream homes, raising her beautiful kids, and side out in
- 4:07Speaker 1: the world with a pen in the hand and a
- 4:10Speaker 1: story on her tongue. Girl looking here, We're gonna have
- 4:15Speaker 1: to talk about all that, okay, she believed the second
- 4:19Speaker 1: chances flowed characters and stories that speak the truth even
- 4:23Speaker 1: when they lie. Welcome, Miss t Ashley. How are you?
- 4:31Speaker 2: I am great? How are you?
- 4:33Speaker 1: I am doing good? I mean all that. This is exciting.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So I read your bio, but I'm going to ask us.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Tell me one thing about yourself that you didn't say
- 4:53Speaker 1: in your bio.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Oh hi, I have a survival job that is in
- 5:02Speaker 2: I work in banking. I am a banker. So that's
- 5:05Speaker 2: one thing I didn't mention.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Do you ever want to just take one of the
- 5:12Speaker 1: characters to come in the thank and put them on
- 5:15Speaker 1: the book I I have.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I actually have one of my old co workers. I
- 5:24Speaker 2: had never met him, and then he left the bank
- 5:26Speaker 2: and I finally met him, and I was like, oh,
- 5:29Speaker 2: he could be a character.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I see this. I see this. So this
- 5:39Speaker 1: eighth book mixed and Sophia Rue tell us a little
- 5:46Speaker 1: bit about this book.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So fix and Sophie Rue is about a woman who
- 5:53Speaker 2: has magic. She's aware that she's magical. She her ancestors
- 5:57Speaker 2: have passed it down to her. She casts a spell
- 6:02Speaker 2: when she was six years old and she didn't know
- 6:05Speaker 2: what she was doing and it caused a ripple effect
- 6:08Speaker 2: in the land where they lived, and she has a
- 6:12Speaker 2: destiny that's mapped out for her, however she ran from it.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We actually meet Sophie in a previous book clalled Dayton
- 6:22Speaker 2: Jessica Brown, and Sophie has a way of fixing people,
- 6:26Speaker 2: but she doesn't ever fix herself. So the land calls
- 6:30Speaker 2: her home and we see her going through an awakening
- 6:33Speaker 2: so to speak, about fixing the land, fixing herself, fixing
- 6:38Speaker 2: her love life.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So it seems like you have a lot of subtopics
- 6:44Speaker 1: run on in this book. Would view the idea of
- 6:50Speaker 1: fixing Sophie realm.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I always take things that are probably are happening in
- 6:59Speaker 2: my life, and I felt like there was a lot
- 7:01Speaker 2: of like fractured things that I wasn't I was avoiding.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I have an avoidant personality, So I was like, what
- 7:10Speaker 2: happened if I put that in a character? Like a
- 7:14Speaker 2: lot of Sophie's characteristics and habits come from personal experiences.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And since Sophie was in dating Jesse Brown and a
- 7:23Speaker 2: lot of my readers felt like Sophie didn't get her
- 7:26Speaker 2: redemption story. I felt like I needed to help her
- 7:30Speaker 2: out with that a little bit.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Okay, So since we're talking about personal experiences, this is
- 7:37Speaker 1: your eighth book. So when did you write your first book?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Well, I wrote my first book when I was like
- 7:45Speaker 2: in the sixth or seventh grade. I entered in a
- 7:48Speaker 2: young Author's competition and it was about a black eyed pea. Apparently,
- 7:54Speaker 2: I still don't eat black eyed peas, but I had
- 7:56Speaker 2: a big imagination and I wrote a mean ip. But
- 8:01Speaker 2: I published my first book and twenty I want to say,
- 8:07Speaker 2: twenty eighteen.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Okay, mean black eyed pea, you're not yourself. I don't
- 8:13Speaker 1: do black either. I don't too. I can't. I mean,
- 8:18Speaker 1: everybody says on New Years you're supposed to have the
- 8:21Speaker 1: black eyed peace. It's so it's like just that.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I make them, but I don't eat them. I don't.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I can't, dude, not for me, Not for me. So
- 8:36Speaker 1: you started when you were six, Okay, so what is
- 8:42Speaker 1: your goal for writing? Do you write for relaxation. Do
- 8:47Speaker 1: you write to just to resolve problems or I mean,
- 8:54Speaker 1: what is your reason to write.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I'm not much of a talker, which is probably why
- 9:01Speaker 2: I don't do a lot of podcasts, and I feel
- 9:04Speaker 2: like I write out my I love journaling, and I
- 9:09Speaker 2: went to school for playwriting, and I realized that I
- 9:12Speaker 2: had a lot more to say between the lines, so
- 9:15Speaker 2: I felt like I needed a different outlet. And writing
- 9:20Speaker 2: gives me that it's a form of therapy because I
- 9:24Speaker 2: can take a situation and that I have been in
- 9:28Speaker 2: and manipulated to how I either it could have come
- 9:33Speaker 2: out or how I wanted it to come out.
- 9:38Speaker 1: I think a lot of people do that, and for me,
- 9:42Speaker 1: journaling is now becoming something.
- 9:44Speaker 3: That I do.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And I never knew how relaxing it was. But then
- 9:51Speaker 1: on the flip side, I never knew how much it
- 9:54Speaker 1: brings up other things that I want to think to
- 9:57Speaker 1: talk about. So how do you handle that? Like you're
- 10:03Speaker 1: writing one thing, but then something else comes to mind,
- 10:06Speaker 1: how do you handle it?
- 10:10Speaker 2: I put it to the side. I try to write
- 10:12Speaker 2: down everything, like anything that I'm thinking about, anything that
- 10:16Speaker 2: I can't express verbally, I put it in words. Sometimes
- 10:20Speaker 2: it's one sentence and sometimes there's one word. Actually started
- 10:24Speaker 2: a journal entry a couple of months ago, and I
- 10:26Speaker 2: wrote a whole book.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Oh my god, oh boo ooh. So when you're writing,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you wanted to be placed in that box of genres
- 10:43Speaker 1: because we did speak about the genre of fixing Sofia Root,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and we're going to talk about that in a moment.
- 10:48Speaker 1: But are you one of those authors that you want
- 10:51Speaker 1: to always spread your wings or you want to say
- 10:54Speaker 1: this is my genre box and this is what I'm
- 10:57Speaker 1: sticking to. No.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I I feel like my tagline is I'm a multi
- 11:03Speaker 2: genre author. I don't like to be Boxton, and I
- 11:06Speaker 2: want to try everything. Like last year I tried thrillers
- 11:10Speaker 2: and I loved it so but most of my books
- 11:14Speaker 2: have a magical element to it, and a few that's
- 11:18Speaker 2: coming up they won't have a magical element. So I'm
- 11:21Speaker 2: trying different things. So I don't like to be boxed
- 11:25Speaker 2: into one genre.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Oh my god, I love that. I love that hood
- 11:31Speaker 1: Magic is hood magic because when I read that these synopsis,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I can think of what this hood magic? Now?
- 11:41Speaker 3: I know hood you know, I've seen that every day,
- 11:45Speaker 3: But now you're trying to put magic in it too,
- 11:47Speaker 3: and so all I'm thinking is a drug dealer on
- 11:50Speaker 3: the corner, like hey, you know it's please tell me
- 11:53Speaker 3: what is So I.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Wrote this bio after I wrote because I'm from the hood,
- 12:02Speaker 2: like I grew up in the projects. Like my fiance
- 12:04Speaker 2: caused me her pet baby, but I don't necessarily people
- 12:08Speaker 2: when people look at me, they don't think that. So
- 12:11Speaker 2: and my fiance is very like total parl or opposite
- 12:14Speaker 2: of me, Like I'm like, what does that mean? What
- 12:16Speaker 2: are you saying? Like, so she's like, I think you
- 12:19Speaker 2: should write an urban novel, and I'm like, I don't
- 12:22Speaker 2: think that's me. And then I wrote it and I
- 12:24Speaker 2: was like, oh, I could do this. So it's just
- 12:28Speaker 2: I think it was just a spin on the way
- 12:30Speaker 2: that I said magical realism because I don't really write.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I don't world build. I'm not your conventional fantasy author.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't go you know, you're not going to go
- 12:40Speaker 2: to a different land or whatever. You're in the backyard.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You're in Connecticut, in the hood. There's hoods in Connecticut,
- 12:48Speaker 2: and you're in Alabama, or you're in Atlanta or New
- 12:53Speaker 2: Jersey or something like that. So it's not like the conventional.
- 12:57Speaker 2: So that was just like a little funny thing that
- 12:59Speaker 2: I slid in there. We have. It's an inside joke
- 13:01Speaker 2: persuing me and my fiance.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think it's kid. I really loved it because that
- 13:08Speaker 1: as you can tell me, it's a reader. I'm like, okay,
- 13:10Speaker 1: now what is hood Magic?
- 13:11Speaker 2: That mean?
- 13:12Speaker 1: You want to say? Okay, let me go ahead and
- 13:13Speaker 1: grab this book real quick because somebody going to splain
- 13:16Speaker 1: into me hood Magic.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Not that it's not out yet.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yes, because it's not out yet, we can get the
- 13:26Speaker 1: first here, so you okay. So Sophia and she needs
- 13:36Speaker 1: fixing mm hmm. Without giving the book away, what is
- 13:42Speaker 1: she running from or what does she need fixing?
- 13:47Speaker 2: She's running from everything her that she her destiny. She's
- 13:53Speaker 2: supposed to be in her hometown doing what her people do.
- 13:59Speaker 2: It's kind of like my family is from South Carolina,
- 14:04Speaker 2: so it's got a lot of like deep Southern roots
- 14:07Speaker 2: to it. So it's just basically she's running from love,
- 14:13Speaker 2: she's running from her destiny, she's running from herself. She
- 14:16Speaker 2: just doesn't want it, any of it. She wants to
- 14:20Speaker 2: live a free like she's like a I would say,
- 14:23Speaker 2: like not like A. I don't think gypsy is the
- 14:25Speaker 2: right word. I think that is not even politically correct anymore.
- 14:29Speaker 2: But she's like a nomad and she has she just
- 14:32Speaker 2: wants to be free.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Okay, So my next question to you would be what
- 14:42Speaker 1: part of this character is so similar to you.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I think the aspect of I pour into everybody, but
- 14:54Speaker 2: I don't take time to pour into myself.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Ooh, girl, girl, that is the girl you just knocked
- 15:01Speaker 1: on my door. How you doing?
- 15:03Speaker 2: Yeah? And we all do it?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Have you saw that? Yeah?
- 15:09Speaker 2: No, I haven't because in my mind, I'm a mom first,
- 15:13Speaker 2: you know, I'm a fiance, a spouse. First, I have
- 15:17Speaker 2: to take I'm the matriarch. I have to take care
- 15:19Speaker 2: of everybody, so even down to my siblings and stuff,
- 15:23Speaker 2: and I'm the baby like so's it's hard, especially being
- 15:27Speaker 2: a black woman, you know, and I have I have
- 15:32Speaker 2: a higher position in my job. So it's just like
- 15:36Speaker 2: I was just pour into all these places. So I
- 15:39Speaker 2: feel like I poured myself into these characters, and hopefully
- 15:44Speaker 2: I get some relief from that. And Soda readers, Oh.
- 15:49Speaker 1: My god, like I feel you when you say that.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean, I'm a mom. I have a twenty three
- 15:54Speaker 1: year old and my baby girl, Happy Birthday and Naya
- 15:58Speaker 1: have you read Yeah, it's gonna be eleven tomorrow, eleven
- 16:03Speaker 1: going on thirty five.
- 16:04Speaker 2: God, I have one of those.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Nobody want us something? Why this should be a book?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Say your life is about turn up by now? But
- 16:17Speaker 1: and I totally truly do understand where you're coming from
- 16:24Speaker 1: relationship wise, working my daughter, my son is a lot,
- 16:32Speaker 1: and so I can see you trying to find relief
- 16:37Speaker 1: in your character. So I'm gonna ask did you find it?
- 16:45Speaker 2: I think that I founded more in dating Jessica Brown
- 16:51Speaker 2: the previous book than I did this tie this one happened. This,
- 16:56Speaker 2: this fixing Sophie will have me like looking in turn
- 17:00Speaker 2: and being like, okay, I need to But like in
- 17:03Speaker 2: the aspect of love, I found that writing the previous book.
- 17:11Speaker 1: So you have some questions from people who are listening. Okay,
- 17:16Speaker 1: one one of our viewers the same, banking can be tough,
- 17:21Speaker 1: But what ways do you unwind other than through writing?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Well, I'm a reader first, So I turned my audio
- 17:30Speaker 2: book on, I put my headphones on, and I just
- 17:33Speaker 2: take at least an hour thirty minutes before bedtime to
- 17:38Speaker 2: myself to just like enjoy something outside of outside noise.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Okay, so what are you currently listening to?
- 17:47Speaker 2: I'm currently listening to Danielle Allen's Big Girl Boots.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Oh and I'm loving it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yah.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I have to write that one down. And another question
- 18:02Speaker 1: is if you have someone who is just starting to journal,
- 18:06Speaker 1: how should I recommend getting over the fear of being
- 18:09Speaker 1: honest on paper?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Why would you lie to yourself?
- 18:17Speaker 1: Oh?
- 18:18Speaker 2: Right? Why this is? You're pouring your heart out to yourself.
- 18:24Speaker 2: That's a big step in vulnerability. But who else can
- 18:28Speaker 2: you be vulnerable to if you can't be vulnerable to yourself?
- 18:33Speaker 1: Mmm? Girl, you did that? Oh you did that? Oh
- 18:41Speaker 1: my goodness, that was powerful, very powerful. This is woman's history, money, you.
- 18:51Speaker 1: What does woman's history mean to you?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Being able to honor the greats that came before me,
- 19:03Speaker 2: being able to honor even like my lineage before me.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Because especially fixing Sophie Rue is about like your ancestors
- 19:11Speaker 2: and the women that came before you and stepping into
- 19:14Speaker 2: those roles. So I think that Women's History Month is
- 19:19Speaker 2: just a great way to honor us and those who
- 19:24Speaker 2: came before us.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So if you can honor that one woman, then you
- 19:31Speaker 1: know what. I don't even want to narrow it down
- 19:33Speaker 1: to one. If you can honor women or the men,
- 19:39Speaker 1: who would they be and why?
- 19:42Speaker 2: Honestly, my grandmother's birthday is March eighteenth, and this book
- 19:47Speaker 2: is coming out on March eighteenth, and we lost her
- 19:50Speaker 2: a couple of years ago. She was the matrigar of
- 19:52Speaker 2: our family and I dedicated Fixing Sophie Rue to her,
- 19:56Speaker 2: and it's releasing on her birthday. So that is my
- 20:02Speaker 2: ultimate honor to the best woman that I have ever met.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I hope my mom doesn't see this, but no, like
- 20:11Speaker 2: she used to tell me, like when I was little,
- 20:14Speaker 2: that she was more my mother than my mother is,
- 20:17Speaker 2: so that like resonated and stuck with me, and and
- 20:21Speaker 2: she had nine kids. So I just feel like that
- 20:24Speaker 2: if I had to pick one person, hands down, it
- 20:26Speaker 2: would be my grandmother.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I think. I think in the African American community, we
- 20:31Speaker 1: do always always have that big Mama, big Mama, but
- 20:37Speaker 1: we still respect our mothers. It's not that we're not
- 20:41Speaker 1: respecting them, it's just something but something about the greenies,
- 20:46Speaker 1: the big mosas, it's just something about them. And I
- 20:52Speaker 1: my heart goes out to you. My grandma passed, but
- 20:55Speaker 1: I still remember all the memories my Grandmama special her
- 21:03Speaker 1: calling me, uh, she's called us downe behind. We knew
- 21:08Speaker 1: she loved us, but she couldn't get out there right.
- 21:11Speaker 1: She would look us dad in the face and be like, Ashley, Candice,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you you're done behind you see me talking to you.
- 21:19Speaker 1: We'll be like we're still standing there like were moving
- 21:21Speaker 1: until you call.
- 21:21Speaker 3: It right now.
- 21:26Speaker 1: That's hey. I love Mi Granting too. So remember I
- 21:32Speaker 1: told you we had those fun questions. Yes, oh, it's
- 21:36Speaker 1: time for you, my friend, to sit in the hot
- 21:41Speaker 1: seat and get ready for those fun questions all ready.
- 21:48Speaker 1: So we have Sophie. Okay, lifetime is on the line.
- 21:55Speaker 1: They picked up your book. They love it. They said, Okay,
- 21:58Speaker 1: we are going to make the to a movie, but
- 22:03Speaker 1: we gotta cast the characters who would play soap and
- 22:10Speaker 1: why did you choose that person? But the thing is
- 22:14Speaker 1: they have to be an R and B artist from
- 22:17Speaker 1: the nineties.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Oh, I mean she's a little the first person I'm
- 22:26Speaker 2: just gonna say the first person that comes to mind.
- 22:27Speaker 2: But she's a little older. But if she was back
- 22:31Speaker 2: when she was out, I would say, Joe Scott.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Ooh ooh, did you listen to her new CD?
- 22:39Speaker 2: I haven't listened to the whole thing. I'm in these
- 22:41Speaker 2: book trench itself, but I'm gonna give it a lesson.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Yes, or her tiny desk I saw her was beautiful? Okay,
- 22:54Speaker 1: why Chill Scott?
- 22:57Speaker 2: Because Sophie's this like, although she's got all these issues,
- 23:03Speaker 2: she's still very positive and she holds herself to a
- 23:12Speaker 2: standard and she is a plus sized woman and she's
- 23:17Speaker 2: just vibrant and people love her and she's magnetic. So
- 23:22Speaker 2: I feel like Joe Scott I relates that.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Okay, so Lifetime call you say, Okay, I want Jill Scott.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It's okay, we can need Jill Scott. Jill Scott done.
- 23:35Speaker 1: But now every good movie has to have that title soundtrack?
- 23:43Speaker 1: What song will be the soundtrack for Fixing Sophie Ruth?
- 23:49Speaker 1: And you know what, I will say, you can choose
- 23:52Speaker 1: any song you want.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I would say Damaged by Her?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Hr Oh, that's a serious song. Why did you choose
- 24:07Speaker 1: that one?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Because I mean, like, so obviously there's a love interest
- 24:14Speaker 2: in the book, but Sophie and Kaya are both apprehensive
- 24:19Speaker 2: about this, and they I wouldn't say they're faded mates,
- 24:24Speaker 2: but it's in their charts. They're supposed to be together.
- 24:28Speaker 2: But they're so like, if you, if you do, if
- 24:32Speaker 2: we do this, don't break my heart? And I feel
- 24:36Speaker 2: like that song like says that it surely does.
- 24:43Speaker 1: All right, So we got damaged by her Jill Scott.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Now you know, we always got to have that love interest.
- 24:53Speaker 1: So we have Kya who will play her? But it
- 24:58Speaker 1: has to be an actress.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I would say, oh my god, what is her name?
- 25:11Speaker 2: She created the shy Oh my god, I can't think
- 25:15Speaker 2: of her name not.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Probably always think lead away, okay, And why did you
- 25:22Speaker 1: choose her?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Because if I ever met her, and if I ever
- 25:27Speaker 2: had a hall pass, I would try it.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I love your honesty. She's like, if I get a
- 25:38Speaker 1: hall pass, I'm going for a girl. You go, oh
- 25:44Speaker 1: my god, you go. Okay. So we got the hall pass,
- 25:49Speaker 1: we got this home, we got the actresses. Lifetime loved
- 25:55Speaker 1: it all and they say, you know what, now we
- 25:58Speaker 1: want to do a biopic of you. Who would you
- 26:02Speaker 1: give Yona a playing you in your valu?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Pick? Can I pick myself? I went to school for theater.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Listen, Mody, you know you the best, So why would
- 26:17Speaker 1: you choose you?
- 26:24Speaker 2: You know what? I probably wouldn't choose me. I feel
- 26:27Speaker 2: like I love the I love acting because I can
- 26:30Speaker 2: be somebody else. So let me think, let me rethink this.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I would I think she's much older than me, but
- 26:40Speaker 2: I admire and adore her. But I would pick Viola Davis.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yes, and why.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Because she's just.
- 26:52Speaker 3: It.
- 26:53Speaker 2: She's that like, especially her her last acceptance speech that
- 26:57Speaker 2: like resonated with me. And I feel like playing all
- 27:01Speaker 2: the roles that I wish that I could play like
- 27:04Speaker 2: I just I admire her, like I look up to her,
- 27:06Speaker 2: Like she's brilliant and she just wrote a book. So yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 2: like she's yeah with John John Gersha, did she or
- 27:20Speaker 2: James Patterson one of those big names.
- 27:24Speaker 1: What, I'm happy to go find him. It's the vag
- 27:30Speaker 1: she champions people like when she talks, you have no
- 27:34Speaker 1: choice to be. It's crazy zoo. We are down to
- 27:43Speaker 1: the wire, girl. But you know we gotta get the

- 28:14Speaker 2: exclusive to Audible. So Amazon. The paperbacks are on Bookshop,
- 28:21Speaker 2: Gardens and Nobles, all the major platforms and stuff for
- 28:24Speaker 2: the e book obviously, that's just on Amazon. My socials
- 28:29Speaker 2: usually can just look up t Ashley's author t Ashley.
- 28:34Speaker 2: What else my website is author t Ashley dot net.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I have not put this paper book up there yet
- 28:40Speaker 2: because I haven't a couple of events coming up and

- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so you guys looking at the bottom of the screen.

- 29:09Speaker 2: it's on there also for our readers.
- 29:13Speaker 1: And I just started Nick Galley, like I'm working at
- 29:17Speaker 1: the library for so long and I really never paid
- 29:19Speaker 1: attention to Nick. CALLI there's a reason why y'all aren't
- 29:22Speaker 1: a Why do I need to tell y'all why? I
- 29:25Speaker 1: guess I'll tell y'all why they didn't have much African
- 29:27Speaker 1: American books.
- 29:29Speaker 2: But there are ways for us to get up there
- 29:32Speaker 2: without a publisher. So hopefully I'll be able to like
- 29:37Speaker 2: get on Live or something and tell people how to
- 29:39Speaker 2: do that, because there's ways.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Please tell me if you could send me some information
- 29:44Speaker 1: about that, well, couple of authors who wanted to do that.
- 29:48Speaker 1: I mean, let me tell you craziness. Biola Davids is
- 29:53Speaker 1: from Saint Matter Soul. Look at all this excellence.
- 29:57Speaker 2: I did not know.
- 30:01Speaker 1: We just very can't see that, you guys.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I know Jesse was from South Carolina. I did not
- 30:08Speaker 1: know that. But yo is crazy.
- 30:10Speaker 2: One is this.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I actually do a little segment of all the people
- 30:14Speaker 1: from South Carolina, I think.
- 30:19Speaker 2: But when.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It comes to the big publishers, and this is one
- 30:26Speaker 1: of the reasons why I do what I do, there
- 30:29Speaker 1: is not much recognitions for African American books. I remember
- 30:33Speaker 1: one time I was using a very popular reader's advisory
- 30:38Speaker 1: tools that we use in the library. I put in
- 30:42Speaker 1: urban fiction. It brought up a Cowboy book. What and
- 30:50Speaker 1: the reason why? It brought up the Cowboy book? The
- 30:53Speaker 1: Cowboy book said urban Cowboy? Oh okay, all right, And
- 30:58Speaker 1: I thought I was seeing things. And I went to
- 31:02Speaker 1: a training class a couple of months after and we
- 31:05Speaker 1: did it in front of everybody, and it did it again.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So I really would love that information to get these
- 31:14Speaker 1: books out there. So I would tell you now, congratulations
- 31:21Speaker 1: on your best seller speaking into existence for you. I
