- 0:33Speaker 1: picks show of the season, straight up and against the spread,
- 0:38Speaker 1: as we've been doing for many, many years, establishing us
- 0:41Speaker 1: ourselves as really the gurus of picking game. What are
- 0:45Speaker 1: the sharps know? Are they chalking games? Are they floating games?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Or are they fading games?
- 0:51Speaker 3: Like maybe you could write a book on gambling and
- 0:52Speaker 3: it's like your face with like you know, whats the
- 0:54Speaker 3: sharps know? And you know, like all his little fredims,
- 0:57Speaker 3: the cover of the book is like the art of
- 0:58Speaker 3: the deal.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Most importantly, this really affects my game outfit.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I would wear a hepty bag. So you
- 1:09Speaker 1: you picked up the wrong return slip and sent six
- 1:11Speaker 1: dresses to somewhere.
- 1:13Speaker 5: You have no idea, Yeah, was gone.
- 1:16Speaker 4: So you're like Nikola, just put on the new slip
- 1:18Speaker 4: and just nail it out and like the package is gone.
- 1:21Speaker 6: Frad Like, we got a lot of splaining. So he
- 1:24Speaker 6: doesn't necessarily need to be fired for that, Okay, although
- 1:27Speaker 6: I would fire off.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:31Speaker 7: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:35Speaker 7: dot com.
- 1:38Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:42Speaker 1: at Jillets Stadium, and boy do we have a lot
- 1:45Speaker 1: to talk about. You know. Topic number one is the
- 1:48Speaker 1: Patriots game, Tom Brady halftime, that whole thing. But the
- 1:54Speaker 1: AFC East, Holy mackerel. It was turned on its head
- 2:00Speaker 1: last night with the Aaron Rodgers. Now we're finding out
- 2:03Speaker 1: a torn Achilles out for the season. I mean it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: a two horse race now, Patriots in Dolphins.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Could you believe that? Like they ran him out with
- 2:12Speaker 3: the flag? It was they know, like the September eleventh thing.
- 2:16Speaker 8: He's waiting, so.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I should have given Paul momentory. I just I couldn't
- 2:20Speaker 3: believe that though, though, like when Aaron Rodgers went out
- 2:22Speaker 3: with the flag, I'm like the Jets fans, they are ready.
- 2:25Speaker 3: The highlight of this is it and then four minutes
- 2:28Speaker 3: in just kind of awkwardly gets tackled. I couldn't believe
- 2:31Speaker 3: it yet. I couldn't believe those long feet and you
- 2:34Speaker 3: know that yeah angle what yeah, leverage?
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah? I ever see his feet, He's got like size
- 2:40Speaker 1: thirty feet.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I don't looking at people's feet.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah it's Grosso in the shoot cleats on. Yeah, it
- 2:46Speaker 1: wasn't anyway, dogs were parking. So yeah, that that's that's huge.
- 2:51Speaker 1: We're going to get into that obviously. What does that
- 2:53Speaker 1: mean for the Jets and for the AFC East. But
- 2:56Speaker 1: let's go back to Sunday tough I thought for the Patriots,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but like we talked about in the post game show,
- 3:06Speaker 1: there was enough there both offensively and defensively where I'm
- 3:09Speaker 1: excited to see this game on Sunday, you know, to
- 3:12Speaker 1: see what they can do against Miami. I'm excited. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: think there was enough there to give me encouragement.
- 3:18Speaker 3: That's a huge game. I don't know, I mean, it's
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, you don't overstate at week two, but you know,
- 3:23Speaker 3: based on how things have gone against Miami and TUA,
- 3:25Speaker 3: you know, I think twas four and zero against the Patriots,
- 3:28Speaker 3: and you know, like you said last night, the Bill's losing,
- 3:29Speaker 3: the Jets winning. You know, you've just seen a lot
- 3:32Speaker 3: of chaos here early in the AFC. So I just
- 3:34Speaker 3: think for the Patriots to position themselves, you know, well
- 3:36Speaker 3: for the rest of the season, they got to come
- 3:38Speaker 3: out and just you know, play, play their best game
- 3:40Speaker 3: in a couple of years to you know, and it's
- 3:42Speaker 3: not gonna be easy. These guys are really good.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I mean, you know, they weren't a shootout with San
- 3:47Speaker 1: Diego and Tua. It is probably gonna be Offensive player
- 3:50Speaker 1: of the Week hands down. How many touchdowns three touchdowns,
- 3:54Speaker 1: four hundred and forty some odd yards.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I mean he was sixty six six chucking it all
- 4:01Speaker 3: over the school yard.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 8: They had seventeen explosive plays. Wow, seventeen twenty plus yard games.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Jill had over two hundred yards catching.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I think it truly just starts with eliminating the mistakes.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Like it's just like a face palm when you see
- 4:15Speaker 4: on the first drive of the game, I don't understand.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I mean, I think it happened last year first drive
- 4:18Speaker 4: of the game against Miami. It's like, why does that
- 4:21Speaker 4: always have to happen. Why does it always have to
- 4:23Speaker 4: be a tip for an interception or a fumble. It's
- 4:26Speaker 4: just can we have one drive where we start the
- 4:28Speaker 4: drive with a touchdown and not a turnover? Like It's
- 4:31Speaker 4: just it's hard to beat a team like Miami when
- 4:33Speaker 4: you're digging yourself out of a hole.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, they're gonna have to eliminate these mistakes for sure.
- 4:38Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a I looked it up before the game
- 4:40Speaker 8: to make sure I was right about this because I
- 4:42Speaker 8: had a feeling that maybe they'd start well in this game.
- 4:44Speaker 8: They didn't score their first opening drive touchdown until Thanksgiving
- 4:48Speaker 8: last year. It was in Minnesota on Thanksgiving Night, was
- 4:52Speaker 8: the first opening drive touchdown the Patriots had, and then,
- 4:55Speaker 8: to Tamaar's point, didn't do it again this week either.
- 4:58Speaker 8: So the starts are probably I'm not.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So worried about not scoring a touchdown on the first drive.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Just don't make it easy for them, you know, don't
- 5:08Speaker 1: turn it over and give them a short field or
- 5:10Speaker 1: or whatever, you know, like not scoring right away. That's
- 5:15Speaker 1: to me, that's the least of the problems, you know.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that and finishing you know better, I mean, I
- 5:21Speaker 3: you know, I still think there are threads from the
- 5:22Speaker 3: past couple of years. But you know, I think, as
- 5:24Speaker 3: Paul kind of said on the on the postgame, it
- 5:26Speaker 3: did feel like they had a little more juice in
- 5:27Speaker 3: this game on both sides of the ball. You know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: But it's Week one. How's it going to play out
- 5:32Speaker 3: over the next few weeks. They've got to get to
- 5:34Speaker 3: another level.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I mean we we went in, you know, finding out
- 5:37Speaker 1: that stranger wasn't going to play on when you wasn't
- 5:39Speaker 1: going to play, and we were like, oh boy, right Parker.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But I think the offensive line held up in pass protection, well,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't think that was a problem for the most part.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I think, you know, it gave Mac, you know, ability
- 5:53Speaker 1: to execute. I don't think the run game was that good,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but you know, we can work on that. Again, there's
- 6:03Speaker 1: enough there on both sides of the ball where I'm like, Okay,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know we can Let's let's see what happens this season.
- 6:09Speaker 4: There is potential.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah, oh boy, I really liked I really liked the defense.
- 6:14Speaker 6: I'm not as high in the offense, but I will
- 6:16Speaker 6: I will admit that we're going to get to this.
- 6:20Speaker 6: It's going to be something I think we're going to
- 6:22Speaker 6: talk about a lot of weeks offensively, but defensively, I
- 6:25Speaker 6: haven't seen a lot of those performances since Brady left.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Where they play against another offense that is considered to
- 6:31Speaker 6: be one of the more productive offenses in the league,
- 6:33Speaker 6: and they and they really controlled it two hundred and
- 6:36Speaker 6: fifty yards. That's a really really low amount of yards
- 6:39Speaker 6: for that kind of a team that wants to grind
- 6:41Speaker 6: it out and wants to do different things with the RPOs.
- 6:44Speaker 6: I thought they were really well prepared for it. They
- 6:46Speaker 6: should be, you know, they had you know, six months
- 6:49Speaker 6: to prepare, but I thought they really I mean, it's
- 6:54Speaker 6: hard to tell and getting a guy's head, but I
- 6:56Speaker 6: thought that they had Jalen Hurt's second guessing himself a
- 6:59Speaker 6: little bit on some of his plays. But I was
- 7:02Speaker 6: really impressed with a sixty minute effort on defense. I've
- 7:04Speaker 6: seen them sort of start, you know, with a good
- 7:06Speaker 6: game plan, and then the other team figures it out.
- 7:09Speaker 6: I've seen them sort of struggle early on and then
- 7:13Speaker 6: you know, get it together, but when the game's on
- 7:15Speaker 6: the line and they have to finish it out, they
- 7:16Speaker 6: can't do it.
- 7:17Speaker 5: You know.
- 7:17Speaker 6: I'm thinking of like Jonathan Taylor. You know against the
- 7:20Speaker 6: Colts a couple of years ago, you know, the Raiders
- 7:22Speaker 6: came on, you need one more stop to sort of
- 7:26Speaker 6: get the ball back and complete a comeback, and you
- 7:28Speaker 6: can't get it. Well, they did it twice. I was
- 7:30Speaker 6: really I thought that that was probably the best defensive
- 7:33Speaker 6: performance I've seen post Brady against a good team.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean they gave up eighteen points right the defense.
- 7:39Speaker 8: And one of the West came on a short thing.
- 7:41Speaker 6: You have twelve points.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, And so if someone had told you before the
- 7:44Speaker 1: game that's what they were going to do, you'd be like, Okay,
- 7:46Speaker 1: shock it up.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I'd sign up for all of it.
- 7:48Speaker 8: You know, that loan the loan touchdown drive came off
- 7:51Speaker 8: after the Zeke fumble. So they started at the think
- 7:53Speaker 8: the twenty twenty one four or something like that. Yes,
- 7:56Speaker 8: I mean they really didn't give up a real touchdown.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Drive twenty six defense in this game.
- 8:01Speaker 8: And to Paul's point about their preparation, I mean this
- 8:04Speaker 8: was like like they looked like they were prepared for
- 8:06Speaker 8: like Super Bowl levels of prepared. They had said they
- 8:11Speaker 8: had like everything, all the RPO and read option stuff.
- 8:14Speaker 8: They had little wrinkles in for all of that kind
- 8:16Speaker 8: of those kinds of things. They spun the dial on them.
- 8:20Speaker 8: They had different disguised coverages like they they were ready
- 8:23Speaker 8: to go defensively in this game. And I think, what's
- 8:26Speaker 8: exciting before I trash the offense, what's exciting about the
- 8:29Speaker 8: defense is that now they have the personnel that you
- 8:33Speaker 8: feel like they have all the missing pieces that maybe
- 8:36Speaker 8: they didn't have last year with Gonzales in place and
- 8:39Speaker 8: Keon White adding into the defensive front. And we'll see
- 8:42Speaker 8: what Marty map Who does with more exposure and more
- 8:45Speaker 8: playing time, But in general, it feels like they have
- 8:48Speaker 8: all the pieces. They have the coaching on that side
- 8:50Speaker 8: of the football, and I was really encouraged by what
- 8:53Speaker 8: I saw that Sometimes you turn on the film with
- 8:55Speaker 8: defense and you're like, oh God, like Jalen Hurts just
- 8:58Speaker 8: missed like ten throws that he could have made. This
- 9:01Speaker 8: did not feel like that this was clean.
- 9:03Speaker 4: How did you think it was without Jack Jones? Could
- 9:06Speaker 4: you really tell that he wasn't there?
- 9:08Speaker 6: Or no, he's so dismissive.
- 9:12Speaker 8: I no, no, it's a good question. I mean to
- 9:14Speaker 8: be dismissive. I just I'm on the fence on Jack
- 9:18Speaker 8: Jones still like, I still don't know if Jack Jones
- 9:21Speaker 8: is what some people think he is in terms of
- 9:25Speaker 8: a football player. So I wasn't really missing Jack Jones
- 9:28Speaker 8: to begin with, I guess, but I felt like, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 8: Jonathan Jones played most of the snaps opposite Gonzales on
- 9:34Speaker 8: the outside. Marcus Jones played a few. I think he
- 9:36Speaker 8: had fourteen snaps on the boundary. So they made it
- 9:40Speaker 8: work with those two guys and Miles Bryant a really
- 9:43Speaker 8: good game for Miles Bryant playing in the slot mostly,
- 9:46Speaker 8: and then Marcus was kind of like the fourth corner.
- 9:49Speaker 3: That was the only time that maybe you could have
- 9:51Speaker 3: said that they missed him wasich just when they had
- 9:52Speaker 3: to put Marcus in on the outside, But it didn't
- 9:54Speaker 3: really seem I don't know if on the touchdown he
- 9:56Speaker 3: gave up if he was Jones on that just inside.
- 9:59Speaker 6: So yeah, I have a quick question, has unrelated to
- 10:03Speaker 6: anything we're talking about, just to kind of a fact
- 10:05Speaker 6: to it. According to the game book, it had Marcus
- 10:07Speaker 6: Jones down as one offensive snap, Evan.
- 10:09Speaker 8: Did you Yeah, so they faked the screen to him.
- 10:13Speaker 8: Zeke fumbled it was on this Yeah, so Marcus Jones
- 10:17Speaker 8: is in the game, and they faked the screen to
- 10:19Speaker 8: him and it did.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Uh.
- 10:21Speaker 8: The play wasn't going to be that overly successful anyways,
- 10:24Speaker 8: even if Z hung onto the ball. But the Eagles
- 10:27Speaker 8: defense did panic a little bit, and they were waving
- 10:30Speaker 8: like over on the the Marcus Jones's side of the field,
- 10:33Speaker 8: like hello, like, this guy's in the game.
- 10:36Speaker 6: We got to watch out for that design. Yeah, I
- 10:38Speaker 6: get that.
- 10:39Speaker 3: It just especially all eyes are going to be on
- 10:41Speaker 3: him when he gets in there for that first snap,
- 10:43Speaker 3: you know. But fortunately he's fumbled.
- 10:46Speaker 1: So you weren't happy with the offense?
- 10:49Speaker 3: No, no, careful no, I uh, not happy as strong.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Yeah, not happy as strong, not as thrilled as others.
- 10:57Speaker 6: I don't think he's strong.
- 10:58Speaker 8: I would agree. I think that here's the thing. There's
- 11:03Speaker 8: a lot of like context and things to discuss with
- 11:07Speaker 8: this problem that they have, but ultimately they don't. There's
- 11:13Speaker 8: nothing explosive about this offense. There's nothing explosive about the offense.
- 11:19Speaker 8: I just mentioned that Miami off the top had seventeen
- 11:22Speaker 8: explosive plays. Now that's like ridiculous, that's off the charts ridiculous.
- 11:26Speaker 1: What if we find out about that Miami Miami game
- 11:29Speaker 1: that the Chargers defense is absolutely horrible.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Well, the Chargers defense is sketchy, it is.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I just don't understand how they continue to blow leads
- 11:37Speaker 4: like this, like they did the same thing against Trevor Lawrence.
- 11:40Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 11:40Speaker 4: How have you not learned anything over and into.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Because whoa, that was a one score game the whole game.
- 11:46Speaker 6: They didn't They've been back and forth, back and forth.
- 11:48Speaker 8: I just think they were losing at the house.
- 11:50Speaker 6: I don't understand. Yeah, I don't think they blew a
- 11:52Speaker 6: lead on Sunday, that's all I mean. I know they
- 11:54Speaker 6: had the lead in the fourth quarter, but Miami had
- 11:57Speaker 6: a lead in the fourth quarter too, and went back
- 11:59Speaker 6: and forth like this wasn't twenty seven nothing like they
- 12:02Speaker 6: did before. I don't think their defense is very good.
- 12:04Speaker 6: I know everybody keeps saying how badly the Chargers underachieved
- 12:08Speaker 6: because they think that I don't think they underachieved, But
- 12:11Speaker 6: that's the story for a different show.
- 12:13Speaker 8: I couldn't agree more.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't.
- 12:15Speaker 6: I think they're a good team. They're not a great team.
- 12:17Speaker 6: People think they're a great thy people Chargers.
- 12:20Speaker 8: People look at their roster and think that they have
- 12:22Speaker 8: this all this roster talent, because they have a lot
- 12:25Speaker 8: of really good players at the top of the roster, right,
- 12:28Speaker 8: they have guys like Justin Herbert and Austin Eckler and
- 12:32Speaker 8: Joey Bosa. But when you start to go down the
- 12:34Speaker 8: depth chart with the Chargers and look at their roster depth,
- 12:37Speaker 8: especially in the secondary, I mean they are they are
- 12:40Speaker 8: thin back there.
- 12:42Speaker 3: I just don't think the Patriots can win that game.
- 12:43Speaker 3: You know that that's the game that the Patriots that
- 12:46Speaker 3: that's a tough one for them if the defense doesn't
- 12:47Speaker 3: get yeah, like, if the defense doesn't hold the team.
- 12:50Speaker 3: I mean we've talked about twenty five, but you know, thirty,
- 12:53Speaker 3: it's a it's hard to see them Penatal keep.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Up in that game. I don't want to like go
- 12:57Speaker 1: off on you want to Chargers team with Philly here.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Still we'll do Miami tomorrow.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I still char I still want to talk about this
- 13:06Speaker 1: Patriots offense a little bit because I think that I
- 13:10Speaker 1: sense from Evan a little bit of dread going forward.
- 13:14Speaker 8: Look, I think this is the this is the combination
- 13:17Speaker 8: that I will try to keep short. Okay, The main
- 13:20Speaker 8: thing is is that this offense needs to be really,
- 13:24Speaker 8: really good on the margins because they don't have a
- 13:27Speaker 8: quarterback who's a big time playmaker, and they don't have
- 13:30Speaker 8: receivers that are big time playmakers. So when they have
- 13:34Speaker 8: all these little just details that are not buttoned up,
- 13:39Speaker 8: those add up to catastrophic moments like the Kendrick Bourne
- 13:43Speaker 8: play on the pick six. The route in the spacing
- 13:46Speaker 8: could have been a little bit clearer and a little
- 13:48Speaker 8: bit better, the throw could have been a little bit better,
- 13:51Speaker 8: and those little margins that are just yeah, it hit
- 13:54Speaker 8: him in the hands, but it's not a great throw.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's like in the air, I don't it's
- 14:01Speaker 3: not behind him high.
- 14:03Speaker 8: But these just these little things when you take out
- 14:06Speaker 8: the don't don't just look at the box score, like
- 14:09Speaker 8: remove the fact that he threw for three hundred yards
- 14:11Speaker 8: and three touchdowns, because ultimately, like who cares that. It's
- 14:16Speaker 8: not fantasy football? Like, no, nobody cares about the stats.
- 14:19Speaker 8: Right if you look at the actual film and go
- 14:21Speaker 8: play to play with Mac Jones in this offense, there's
- 14:24Speaker 8: so many little things. And I get it's Week one,
- 14:26Speaker 8: but I feel like this has been happening for three years.
- 14:30Speaker 8: Like this this is the story is that they don't
- 14:33Speaker 8: have guys offensively, whether it's the quarterback or the receivers,
- 14:37Speaker 8: to make it all up in one play. They don't
- 14:39Speaker 8: have those types of players. So you need to be
- 14:42Speaker 8: so precise to go ten eleven, twelve plays on a drive,
- 14:47Speaker 8: to drive down the field consistently. And I think what
- 14:50Speaker 8: you see is okay, like this throw the ball. You know,
- 14:54Speaker 8: if he puts it on his inside hip, then it's
- 14:57Speaker 8: a first down. But maybe the ball drifts to the
- 14:59Speaker 8: outside a little bit and then just that little tiny
- 15:03Speaker 8: bit of ball placement. That difference is a difference between
- 15:07Speaker 8: a big play and a not big play. Or you
- 15:10Speaker 8: look at the last play to Kaishan Booty, it just
- 15:13Speaker 8: takes too long. The receiver takes too long to run
- 15:15Speaker 8: the route, the quarterback takes too long to throw the football.
- 15:19Speaker 8: And there's guys in this league. And this isn't to
- 15:22Speaker 8: pick on Mac, but if Josh Allen is a beat
- 15:26Speaker 8: late to a deep out like that, he can make
- 15:28Speaker 8: up for it with velocity. He just throws it one
- 15:30Speaker 8: hundred miles an hour. He can't do that. So if
- 15:34Speaker 8: he's going to be a beat late to throwing to
- 15:36Speaker 8: Kaishan Boody, there and I get it. He's indecisive about it.
- 15:40Speaker 8: He's a rookie receiver that it was the right read
- 15:42Speaker 8: to make. On the play, he's hot because they're sending
- 15:45Speaker 8: a blitz at him, so he's got to get the
- 15:46Speaker 8: ball out. But on that particular play, he's a beat
- 15:49Speaker 8: late to it. And if you're a beat late with
- 15:51Speaker 8: that kind of arm strength, it's going to make it
- 15:53Speaker 8: a really difficult catch on the sideline for the receiver,
- 15:56Speaker 8: and Booty can't get his foot down the.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Game because Parker's not. If Parker is, does he make
- 16:02Speaker 1: that catch, I.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Think I think they win the game.
- 16:04Speaker 8: If Parker played, he definitely makes the back shoulder.
- 16:07Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:07Speaker 6: There's no question the first one.
- 16:09Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know about this one. This is all
- 16:12Speaker 8: about the little little intricacies of timing and footwork and
- 16:17Speaker 8: ball placement, because the bottom line is is that he
- 16:21Speaker 8: doesn't Mac doesn't have the physical tools to just do
- 16:24Speaker 8: whatever he wants. He needs to be so perfect at
- 16:27Speaker 8: all of the little things so that he can maximize
- 16:30Speaker 8: every ounce of physical ability that he has, because he's
- 16:34Speaker 8: not going to just make it up in one play,
- 16:35Speaker 8: and he's not going to just be able to throw
- 16:37Speaker 8: off platform or off his back foot and have it
- 16:40Speaker 8: still go where it needs to go. So there's a
- 16:43Speaker 8: couple of plays too where he just looks like he's
- 16:46Speaker 8: stuck in the mud, like his feet are just kind
- 16:48Speaker 8: of stuck. And if he doesn't step into it, and
- 16:50Speaker 8: if he doesn't get his momentum into the throw, then
- 16:54Speaker 8: it takes a while to get there. And that can
- 16:57Speaker 8: be the difference between just completion and a completion with
- 17:02Speaker 8: yards after the catch. So I think what my frustrations
- 17:07Speaker 8: or my concerns come from is they have to play
- 17:10Speaker 8: so much on the margins offensively, and what happens in
- 17:15Speaker 8: the end of the game, is it just if you're
- 17:18Speaker 8: not perfect in those situations, you don't score.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think I'm probably a little bit
- 17:28Speaker 6: more optimistic than Evan, but I understand exactly where he's
- 17:31Speaker 6: coming from. And I'm not necessarily looking at the game
- 17:34Speaker 6: Sunday because I thought they did some good things on Sunday.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Now I know you're talking about the first drive. Fred,
- 17:39Speaker 6: you can't go turnover, turnover three and out three and
- 17:42Speaker 6: out three and oh right, okay, So now you're in
- 17:43Speaker 6: the middle of the second quarter without having even threatened
- 17:46Speaker 6: to score. Absolutely, you can't do that. So I think
- 17:49Speaker 6: a lot of people look, as Evan said at the
- 17:51Speaker 6: box score, Wow, three hundred yards to be touched up
- 17:54Speaker 6: twenty points is not a good total first of all.
- 17:58Speaker 6: So the fact that they were all passing touchdown makes
- 18:00Speaker 6: it look like it was a better offensive performance than
- 18:03Speaker 6: it was. But my bigger point about the whole thing was,
- 18:09Speaker 6: I'm kind of having flashbacks to twenty one and I
- 18:12Speaker 6: think there was a lot of nice things that Bill
- 18:14Speaker 6: O'Brien showed on Sunday, and I think the league has
- 18:19Speaker 6: gotten their first look at some of the things that
- 18:21Speaker 6: they're going to do differently than last year. Yeah, and
- 18:23Speaker 6: about halfway through the year, I think you're going to
- 18:25Speaker 6: see a lot of that stuff exhausted and what happens
- 18:30Speaker 6: then Now, I'm not going to get him in trouble
- 18:31Speaker 6: for something that hasn't happened yet, as my boys like
- 18:33Speaker 6: to say on my shows, Right, you're not not going
- 18:36Speaker 6: to kill them for something that hasn't happened. Maybe Bill
- 18:38Speaker 6: O'Brien is better than Josh McDaniels and he's able to
- 18:41Speaker 6: continue to be a step ahead of the defense all
- 18:44Speaker 6: year round, and they won't have to drop off that
- 18:47Speaker 6: they did. I liked a lot of the stuff I
- 18:48Speaker 6: saw on Sunday. I'm wondering how sustainable a lot of
- 18:51Speaker 6: that stuff is.
- 18:52Speaker 8: I think that's where I'm coming from, is that because
- 18:55Speaker 8: it seems like everything is still kind of hard for them, right, where.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Like everything everything is a chore.
- 19:01Speaker 8: Yeah, and eventually you just need players to go out
- 19:04Speaker 8: there and make plays because the scheme can't carry you
- 19:07Speaker 8: every single week. You have to have some weeks where
- 19:10Speaker 8: they just go out there and make a play. And
- 19:12Speaker 8: you know, the fourth down play on the second to
- 19:16Speaker 8: last drive of the game, He's got Kendrick Bourne, and
- 19:19Speaker 8: Kendrick Bourne is open for a touchdown behind the linebacker level,
- 19:23Speaker 8: and when he comes out of the pocket and he's
- 19:25Speaker 8: on the move, he doesn't make that throw.
- 19:28Speaker 6: Free talking about yeah.
- 19:29Speaker 8: He doesn't make that throw and I hate I go
- 19:32Speaker 8: back and forth with Barth all the time with Josh Allen.
- 19:35Speaker 8: I'm sorry, but Josh Allen is making that play and
- 19:38Speaker 8: I'm not I'm not trying to like compare him to
- 19:40Speaker 8: the best quarterbacks every single week, but like, those are
- 19:43Speaker 8: the types of plays that he is not I don't
- 19:46Speaker 8: think capable of making on the move. So therefore he
- 19:50Speaker 8: has to just be so razor sharp on all the
- 19:52Speaker 8: other little things that happen over the course of a game,
- 19:55Speaker 8: and doing that every single week for seventeen games to
- 20:00Speaker 8: have it be consistent and good for the whole season
- 20:03Speaker 8: is really hard.
- 20:05Speaker 6: All right.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So we're getting a lot of reaction off of what
- 20:08Speaker 1: Evan is saying. We'll get to that, but you know,
- 20:11Speaker 1: I want to get everything on the table. Brady halftime,
- 20:14Speaker 1: what did everyone think was? Were you satisfied with what happened?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Because I've heard a lot of people, Oh, all they
- 20:21Speaker 1: did was make an announcement, That's what Hardy said. But
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know, how did you feel about that? And are
- 20:27Speaker 1: you excited about June twelve?
- 20:29Speaker 3: I liked it. I glowed a little bit. I know
- 20:31Speaker 3: Everyone's gonna laugh at me in the show because I'm
- 20:33Speaker 3: the guy that hates Brady, But when he ran out,
- 20:37Speaker 3: when he ran out with his jersey on, you know,
- 20:40Speaker 3: that was when I first kind of caught a glimpse
- 20:41Speaker 3: of it, and I just thought it was super cool,
- 20:43Speaker 3: you know, I mean, even having been here for a
- 20:45Speaker 3: year of him and experienced it firsthand, I don't know,
- 20:49Speaker 3: it just was it was a nice moment. For me
- 20:50Speaker 3: just to see him right now. Of course, he said
- 20:52Speaker 3: all the right things and the presentation was great, but
- 20:54Speaker 3: for me, it was just the runout and seeing the
- 20:56Speaker 3: joy in his face and you know, really wondering if
- 20:58Speaker 3: he's ever going to do that run out again. You know,
- 21:00Speaker 3: could this be the last time. He's talked so much
- 21:02Speaker 3: about how much it meant to him to play in
- 21:04Speaker 3: front of so many people in the crowd and the
- 21:06Speaker 3: competition and all those things. So that was my that
- 21:09Speaker 3: was my favorite part.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I love him being up in the lighthouse,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and I like the fact that the first time we
- 21:15Speaker 1: saw Brady on Sunday was when he was up there,
- 21:18Speaker 1: so that was pretty cool. And I like when he
- 21:20Speaker 1: said I'll be a Patriot forever. You know, that's all
- 21:22Speaker 1: I need. That's that's all I needed.
- 21:24Speaker 8: You know, that's it.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you have a Tampa Bay shure somewhere like and
- 21:28Speaker 3: also a little bit Tampa Bay.
- 21:31Speaker 8: So my question is, and I know that Tampa was
- 21:33Speaker 8: the last team to see him play, so maybe it's
- 21:35Speaker 8: not exactly the same, but like he's not going to
- 21:37Speaker 8: have that kind of like retirement moment with the Bucks, right,
- 21:42Speaker 8: I mean, he was only there for three.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Right, because to do something, they gotta do something. They
- 21:46Speaker 3: have nothing else but that that.
- 21:47Speaker 8: Was like to me, that was like the the icing
- 21:51Speaker 8: on the cake of the whole day. Was like, he
- 21:53Speaker 8: did this for the Patriots because you know, he still
- 21:57Speaker 8: recognizes everything that the Patriots meant to him, and he
- 22:00Speaker 8: recognized everything that he meant to the Patriots and all
- 22:02Speaker 8: that kind of stuff like that. The Bucks ain't getting that,
- 22:04Speaker 8: so we at least have that on Tampa Bay that
- 22:06Speaker 8: they're not going to get their little I think they
- 22:08Speaker 8: half times.
- 22:09Speaker 1: They would look kind of silly if they made such
- 22:12Speaker 1: a big thing. You know, yes, he won a Super
- 22:14Speaker 1: Bowl with him?
- 22:15Speaker 3: Does he go in their ring of honor?
- 22:16Speaker 5: Though?
- 22:16Speaker 3: I bet I bet they probably do.
- 22:17Speaker 8: You think they would do that his passing stats, I
- 22:21Speaker 8: think some of he has some of their franchise records.
- 22:24Speaker 6: I would absolutely And I can think of guys that
- 22:26Speaker 6: I would honor like that here that we're here for
- 22:28Speaker 6: three years, Like Curtis Martin. I think of him like that.
- 22:34Speaker 5: I mean.
- 22:36Speaker 6: He's not, No, he's not. But I'm just saying I
- 22:38Speaker 6: could make that argument.
- 22:39Speaker 1: No I couldn't.
- 22:40Speaker 3: No, no, Moss, Moss, No.
- 22:43Speaker 8: No, wait, you don't think ma should go in the
- 22:46Speaker 8: Patriots Hall fame.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I don't.
- 22:47Speaker 8: Oh gosh, I don't know about that.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Well, I agree with you on Moss, but I don't
- 22:52Speaker 6: on Curtis.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Curtis was a great player.
- 22:55Speaker 6: It's an individual thing, yeah, I mean I an individual whatever.
- 22:59Speaker 6: So he said, you know, patriot for life. Now, will
- 23:03Speaker 6: you feel differently about that comment if he's starting a
- 23:07Speaker 6: quarterback for the Jets in two weeks.
- 23:09Speaker 1: A little bit, just a little bit.
- 23:11Speaker 3: What was all that talk about your pagero for life?
- 23:14Speaker 5: Now?
- 23:14Speaker 6: In all seriousness, did he make that call? You have
- 23:16Speaker 6: to make the call, right. I'm not telling you that
- 23:19Speaker 6: I don't think this. I never say zero as you
- 23:22Speaker 6: guys know, I tried not to say zero percent, but
- 23:24Speaker 6: probably less than one percent chance that he would say yes.
- 23:26Speaker 6: But you have to make the qualify of the guests, right.
- 23:29Speaker 6: He looks I don't think it's just played last year.
- 23:31Speaker 3: He looks like he's embracing that life side.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I mean I know that Jets one. But now they
- 23:35Speaker 1: have the perfect excuse to not win and get a quarterback.
- 23:39Speaker 6: You know, but that's not going to happen. Why because
- 23:42Speaker 6: they're going to win too many games, just like they
- 23:43Speaker 6: did last year.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I said, right, but they if they wanted to, they
- 23:48Speaker 1: could make it so that they don't, you know, or.
- 23:51Speaker 6: Do you suggest that they forfeit? And I cause you
- 23:54Speaker 6: can't have worse quarterback play than they did last year
- 23:56Speaker 6: and they still won seven games.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I know, but they weren't trying to lose last year.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I'm saying that they could do the QT and and
- 24:04Speaker 1: fans would understand the soft tank.
- 24:06Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't really understand, especially the quiet tank, especially
- 24:09Speaker 8: in this quarterback class. I mean, you're going to have
- 24:12Speaker 8: three or four guys at the top of the draft
- 24:13Speaker 8: that are going to be worth taking in the top ten,
- 24:15Speaker 8: like not like what we always do is like inflate
- 24:18Speaker 8: all these like this is you know, Drake May and
- 24:20Speaker 8: Caleb Williams are legit top five rushers.
- 24:23Speaker 6: Just one year it's the Jets.
- 24:24Speaker 8: Cab is going to stay at school. Yeah right, Oh,
- 24:26Speaker 8: I don't think he's saying. I don't actually saying. But
- 24:29Speaker 8: did he say that. He didn't say about the Jets.
- 24:31Speaker 3: He just said generally.
- 24:32Speaker 6: He said, I want to be in a good situation.
- 24:34Speaker 6: I think that's a great situation.
- 24:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Well, I mean, and that's you know, credit to the
- 24:38Speaker 3: Jets defense last night too, and Priests Hall coming back.
- 24:41Speaker 3: That's I mean, it's it's I mean, I know, laughs
- 24:42Speaker 3: at Zach Wilson, but that's still a tough team that
- 24:45Speaker 3: it wasn't terrible.
- 24:45Speaker 6: I mean, considering the circumstances, I don't think he looked good.
- 24:48Speaker 6: I thought he looked a little times.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I am I scared of that Jets defense. Hell yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 1: they're they're good.
- 24:55Speaker 8: That picked him, Matt Malone, You're not terrible.
- 24:57Speaker 6: I'm not afraid of defenses in general, you know, I'm not.
- 25:04Speaker 6: That's great that in a cup of five bucks, will
- 25:06Speaker 6: buy your cup if what.
- 25:07Speaker 3: If your offense is severely limited.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Defense, that's but that's on my offense. Like I need
- 25:13Speaker 6: to be better offensively, getting back to what Evan talked about.
- 25:17Speaker 6: I need to be more consistent offense.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Garret Wilson nice catch too, I mean he's he's.
- 25:21Speaker 6: Play the fantasy team went down the toilet with that.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Okay, so can I mean, I don't want to get
- 25:26Speaker 3: on a thing here, but like the Bills, it seems
- 25:28Speaker 3: like they got Dalton Kincaid and now they're a two
- 25:31Speaker 3: tight end team, and that's kind of what they're trying
- 25:33Speaker 3: to switch it up.
- 25:34Speaker 6: He's not a tight end.
- 25:35Speaker 8: Yeah, he's like I get SICKI right.
- 25:36Speaker 6: I know they were saying that a lot last night.
- 25:38Speaker 3: But regardless what you call him, that that's what the
- 25:41Speaker 3: that's the receiver said is with David Well, that's what
- 25:45Speaker 3: I was wondering when I watched it. And I mean,
- 25:47Speaker 3: you know, you can call him what you want, but
- 25:49Speaker 3: you know, it's just I think the Brady Patriots and
- 25:51Speaker 3: teams that try to sustain success, you have to evolve, right,
- 25:53Speaker 3: like you know, and it just and it feels a
- 25:55Speaker 3: little bit like the Bills are still kind of they
- 25:57Speaker 3: got one foot in and one foot out and heard
- 25:59Speaker 3: all this stuff Josh Allen making better decisions and I'm like,
- 26:02Speaker 3: he took like three or four hits last night. Then
- 26:03Speaker 3: I'm like, is he okay? I mean, I don't know
- 26:05Speaker 3: how he's gonna make it through a season.
- 26:07Speaker 6: I don't mind it hits as much as everybody else.
- 26:09Speaker 6: But what else. A couple of things that I saw
- 26:12Speaker 6: last night, and most of this was off of highlights
- 26:15Speaker 6: because I turned the game off when Aaron Rodgers got hurt.
- 26:18Speaker 6: I was like, I have no interest in the rest
- 26:19Speaker 6: of this game, man, I only I was only watching
- 26:23Speaker 6: just to see how the Jets looked with Alan Rodgers,
- 26:25Speaker 6: and it lasted four plays. I saw like literally ten
- 26:28Speaker 6: other plays in the game live, you know, just clicking around.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Nice if you like football.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I do like football. I don't like Zach.
- 26:36Speaker 8: Exactly like I don't need to see that.
- 26:38Speaker 6: I don't need to see that year.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I was watching. I don't get how bad it was.
- 26:43Speaker 6: I don't have the Jets.
- 26:45Speaker 1: It was an entertaining game.
- 26:46Speaker 6: I hate injuries in general, especially crippling ones, and that
- 26:50Speaker 6: one in particular has a soft spot in my heart
- 26:53Speaker 6: because I know how much it hurts.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Interesting though he kind of stood up first, was that
- 26:58Speaker 3: what you have with yours like it?
- 26:59Speaker 6: Don't for two and a half weeks before I went
- 27:02Speaker 6: to the doctors. That which that opened another scab last
- 27:06Speaker 6: night because Beth got to make fun of me for
- 27:08Speaker 6: like the next twenty minutes. Oh, big tough guy, you
- 27:10Speaker 6: want to just walk around and pretend if I didn't
- 27:12Speaker 6: make you go to the doctors, you still would be
- 27:14Speaker 6: doing I said, no, I think it would have rolled up.
- 27:16Speaker 6: I don't think I would have been able to do
- 27:18Speaker 6: would have been at your mid knee.
- 27:19Speaker 8: But the Bills not to get back to football for
- 27:22Speaker 8: a second. The Bills, they desperately need a second wide receiver,
- 27:27Speaker 8: a second pass catcher other than Digs. And that's supposed
- 27:32Speaker 8: to be Kincaid, and he did nothing last night. I mean,
- 27:35Speaker 8: I know it's his first NFL game, but he was
- 27:37Speaker 8: the first round pick. Christian Gonzalez did something in the game.
- 27:40Speaker 8: So you know, you look at daland Kincaid and that
- 27:43Speaker 8: that's the that's the possession guy, right Like, that's the
- 27:46Speaker 8: guy that's supposed to move the chains for them in
- 27:48Speaker 8: the middle of the field and have Digs on the outside,
- 27:50Speaker 8: and they they really struggled to find like secondary receiving
- 27:54Speaker 8: help for Josh Allen. They obviously have Digs, but they
- 27:57Speaker 8: need those other guys.
- 27:58Speaker 6: To your point, it was closing to you the Jets,
- 28:03Speaker 6: by the way, owned Buffalo. But anyway, to your point
- 28:07Speaker 6: about evolving from the early part of the game that
- 28:10Speaker 6: I that I did watch the actual drives, I did
- 28:13Speaker 6: think that they made a more concerted effort to try
- 28:15Speaker 6: to run conventionally with Cook. With Cook, then they got
- 28:18Speaker 6: down inside the ten and they had old pal Damien Harris,
- 28:22Speaker 6: you know, try to run it in So I think
- 28:24Speaker 6: that is something that might be evolving for them. It
- 28:27Speaker 6: is a change because they're used to just saying everything
- 28:30Speaker 6: for Josh.
- 28:31Speaker 8: But it's a good thing for the defense. Like every
- 28:34Speaker 8: time they turned it around and handed Harris, I'm happy,
- 28:36Speaker 8: like go ahead.
- 28:38Speaker 6: So but at the same time, you're telling me that
- 28:40Speaker 6: they lost in the Cincinnati game because they can't run
- 28:43Speaker 6: the ball, did I yeah, you did. Cincinnati won the
- 28:47Speaker 6: game because they were better on the ground and when
- 28:52Speaker 6: there were things that I think that run counter to
- 28:54Speaker 6: how your game actually unfolded.
- 28:56Speaker 1: The Belichick database, Paul has an argument database. It's argument fault.
- 29:03Speaker 6: You can't remember your name.
- 29:05Speaker 8: You know, well, I remember saying that it is a
- 29:08Speaker 8: long time ago. But I also you know that game
- 29:10Speaker 8: was also weather related. So I don't know. I'm not
- 29:12Speaker 8: a big run run game guy, like especially again.
- 29:15Speaker 6: And I don't want them to run a lot, but
- 29:16Speaker 6: I do think that they need to run. When they
- 29:18Speaker 6: try to run. It can't just be Josh Allen in
- 29:21Speaker 6: the spread and we're gonna just spread everything out and
- 29:24Speaker 6: then see if Devin Singletary can hit a crease. Sometimes
- 29:27Speaker 6: you just have to line up and run the normally.
- 29:30Speaker 6: And I think that they at least tried to do
- 29:32Speaker 6: that early in the game. Now I evidently I didn't,
- 29:35Speaker 6: and I didn't watch much of this. Evidently it completely
- 29:37Speaker 6: fell apart for Josh Allen in the second half.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Cook look pretty good.
- 29:41Speaker 6: I like James Cook. I think he's a good player.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Cody writes in I like what Evan is saying. My
- 29:46Speaker 1: one takeaway from this game was, man, could they wouldn't
- 29:50Speaker 1: they look good with the Wattle Hill Dag's Wilson type
- 29:53Speaker 1: receiver improved offense, But man, they just need a guy. Uh.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And then Jack says finally had something to feel optimistic
- 30:01Speaker 1: about in the AFC East, with the Jets changing dramatically
- 30:03Speaker 1: for the worst, Josh Allen playing downright bad last night,
- 30:06Speaker 1: and I thought the Patriots finally gave me some hope
- 30:09Speaker 1: that we have something decent here. And then Evan brings
- 30:11Speaker 1: us all back down to reality. What a drag to
- 30:14Speaker 1: listen to?
- 30:15Speaker 3: He says, Well, I would say to just you know,
- 30:17Speaker 3: and I you know, I hear everything that that these
- 30:19Speaker 3: guys are saying. But you know, you started two rookies
- 30:22Speaker 3: on the offensive line, like let's you know, let's get healthy,
- 30:24Speaker 3: you know, I mean, I'm not gonna I'm not going
- 30:26Speaker 3: to argue about the Max stuff, but you know, I
- 30:28Speaker 3: think that they can get a boost, certainly from getting
- 30:31Speaker 3: Michael and when you call Strange back, and you know,
- 30:33Speaker 3: even Parker for for what he's for what he is.
- 30:36Speaker 6: So I'll give you that.
- 30:37Speaker 8: Get the offensive line guys back and we'll see.
- 30:39Speaker 3: We'll see maybe they can run the ball a little
- 30:41Speaker 3: bit more. Maybe it helps them establish a little bit
- 30:44Speaker 3: of a margin for error that I think we all,
- 30:46Speaker 3: you know, kind of agree that just hasn't existed the
- 30:49Speaker 3: last couple of years. It's you know, what the game's
- 30:51Speaker 3: going to look like. I think we all were thinking
- 30:52Speaker 3: the same thing when it was sixteen nothing. You're like, here,
- 30:55Speaker 3: this game, if this is the same team as we've
- 30:57Speaker 3: been watching for two years, this game is over. It
- 30:59Speaker 3: was didn't even take the lead back they got, you know,
- 31:01Speaker 3: they got within two points and that was encouraging, but
- 31:04Speaker 3: you know, still it's bad start.
- 31:06Speaker 6: I didn't think the game was over.
- 31:08Speaker 3: In fairness, people text me in the same to Paul,
- 31:10Speaker 3: just get the knob.
- 31:11Speaker 6: I did, and I did not. Now I did not
- 31:13Speaker 6: expect it to unfold the rest of the way the
- 31:15Speaker 6: way it did. So I don't want to be, you know, disingenuous.
- 31:17Speaker 6: I didn't. I figured that the Patriots would, you know,
- 31:21Speaker 6: kick around. I figured Philly would lose interest in the game,
- 31:23Speaker 6: would be a little closer than you. But that's not
- 31:25Speaker 6: what happened. Patriots outplayed the Eagles the rest of the game.
- 31:29Speaker 3: You were almost ready to give the Patriots not the score.
- 31:32Speaker 6: We were both like they're gonna win with certainty. I
- 31:36Speaker 6: thought the Patriots were going to score and after the fumble, yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 6: when they didn't score. When they didn't score after the fumble,
- 31:41Speaker 6: I didn't have the same confidence the second time they
- 31:43Speaker 6: went down.
- 31:44Speaker 8: Not to toot my own horn.
- 31:45Speaker 6: But I was Evyan was doom and gloom because because
- 31:49Speaker 6: I just.
- 31:50Speaker 8: I saw that movie all last season, like how the
- 31:53Speaker 8: Bengals game, the Raiders game, Like I've just seen it
- 31:56Speaker 8: over and over again, that this team just can't come up.
- 31:59Speaker 8: What does clutch? But you said the word consistency, and
- 32:02Speaker 8: I Paul about the offense, and that to me, it's
- 32:05Speaker 8: just how hard it is to be consistent at playing offense.
- 32:10Speaker 6: This way, like you have to trick the other team
- 32:13Speaker 6: all the time.
- 32:13Speaker 8: Yeah, the scheme has to work every play. The quarterback
- 32:17Speaker 8: has to make the right decision with the proper read,
- 32:20Speaker 8: with the proper accuracy and the like all of these
- 32:22Speaker 8: little things that happen. Like you just turn on that
- 32:25Speaker 8: that Chargers Dolphins game last night, and I you know,
- 32:28Speaker 8: I was watching the film during Monday night football, and
- 32:31Speaker 8: like the Dolphins like sometimes don't even look right, but
- 32:35Speaker 8: then Tyreek will just outrun everybody, and two it just
- 32:38Speaker 8: throws them the football and it's like they can have
- 32:41Speaker 8: seventeen other mistakes on one play, but eventually, like ten
- 32:45Speaker 8: is just gonna get loose and he's gonna score a
- 32:46Speaker 8: touchdown and the Patriots just don't have that luxury.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Neil says, based on the show opening, we should fire Belichick,
- 32:52Speaker 1: trade our assets, start a new regime, and get a
- 32:55Speaker 1: top three pick for a new quarterback. That's insanely harsh,
- 32:58Speaker 1: but that is what you're saying. Or we'll just go
- 33:01Speaker 1: eight and nine for eternity.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Who said that us? That's what he You know, you
- 33:06Speaker 6: were talking about the Jets. You were talking about the
- 33:10Speaker 6: Jets when you said that they should just Yeah, no
- 33:12Speaker 6: one would know. I don't know I suggesting the Patriot
- 33:14Speaker 6: should tank.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I don't know if that's what he's talking about. I
- 33:17Speaker 1: was talking about the Jets at that point.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I just want to be clear on that. No
- 33:20Speaker 6: one said the Patriot should tank.
- 33:21Speaker 1: No, no, Adam from Louisiana. I'm not trying to compare
- 33:25Speaker 1: Mac to Tom because they're obviously not on the same level.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Evan was talking about how Mac can't make the throw
- 33:30Speaker 1: on the run like Josh Allen can, but Tom Brady
- 33:32Speaker 1: didn't make those either, So do we really need it?
- 33:35Speaker 1: We proved with Brady that you don't need a mobile
- 33:37Speaker 1: quarterback to win. What are your takes on the need
- 33:40Speaker 1: of mobility and how you can overcome not having it
- 33:42Speaker 1: at quarterbacks?
- 33:43Speaker 4: It's not you overcome not having it at quarterback by
- 33:45Speaker 4: having like star wide receivers and speed wide receivers like
- 33:49Speaker 4: Jalen Wattle or digs, but like you can't have.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Or you overcome it by having the greatest quarterback of
- 33:54Speaker 1: all times.
- 33:55Speaker 8: That it's I don't think it's about a question of
- 33:57Speaker 8: mobility versus not mobility. It's just you got to give
- 34:01Speaker 8: me one or the other. Like Brady was so efficient
- 34:04Speaker 8: and so sharp on every single time he dropped back
- 34:08Speaker 8: pretty much so that he made up for the fact
- 34:10Speaker 8: that he didn't have mobility with the fact that he
- 34:13Speaker 8: was just perfect all the time. If you can't be
- 34:16Speaker 8: near perfect in the pocket and you can't add plays
- 34:20Speaker 8: out of structure on the move, then you're just not
- 34:23Speaker 8: giving me either thing. And Mac I think can do
- 34:26Speaker 8: the consistency thing from the pocket in stretches and we
- 34:30Speaker 8: saw that in the second quarter of the game on Sunday,
- 34:33Speaker 8: But can he do it for four quarters? Can he
- 34:35Speaker 8: do it when it counts late in the game? Can
- 34:38Speaker 8: they do it? Not just him? And that's the difference.
- 34:40Speaker 8: Brady made up for all the mobility stuff because he
- 34:43Speaker 8: was perfect and not everybody's going to be perfect, but
- 34:46Speaker 8: you need to be consistent.
- 34:48Speaker 4: H I feel like they're just relying so much on
- 34:50Speaker 4: their coaching and their ability to coach around the fact
- 34:52Speaker 4: that they don't have an elite quarterback and they don't
- 34:54Speaker 4: have elite receivers and it's like, how long will that ye?
- 34:58Speaker 4: How long will you be will you be able to sustain?
- 35:00Speaker 6: I just watched the punt return for the Jets game.
- 35:02Speaker 6: How did they not call that?
- 35:03Speaker 3: I know, block yep in the back it.
- 35:05Speaker 6: Was it was a block below the waist. It was
- 35:07Speaker 6: a trip Lake win.
- 35:09Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, there was some Twitter Twitter, people pointing
- 35:13Speaker 3: out that.
- 35:13Speaker 6: Oh yeah, but that like that that could have been significant.
- 35:16Speaker 6: That might have forced the Jets to get a first down.
- 35:18Speaker 6: I don't know who's taking a field seriously, Like that
- 35:21Speaker 6: was about the twenty five yard line. That's a fifteen
- 35:23Speaker 6: yard penalty for a trip.
- 35:25Speaker 8: It's from the spot of the foul, right, so it was.
- 35:27Speaker 6: At the twenty five yard line. They might have had
- 35:29Speaker 6: to get a first down to get a field goal.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Who was it that said this game has an asterisk
- 35:34Speaker 1: of that the rules of experts?
- 35:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Joe Perry or Joe Perry perros Man.
- 35:40Speaker 8: Yeah, did you see the old people want guitars for
- 35:43Speaker 8: the Rogers?
- 35:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 35:44Speaker 1: What do you think about that? That was somebody pose
- 35:47Speaker 1: that should you know, uh, sports books, and I'll give
- 35:51Speaker 1: refunds for a situation like that.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Nope, I.
- 35:55Speaker 6: Risk Yeah, that's why. Yeah, that's why it's gambling.
- 35:58Speaker 5: Right.
- 35:59Speaker 3: What happens if you bet on a team in the
- 36:00Speaker 3: other team's quarterback gets hurt? Like, do you.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Right?
- 36:04Speaker 6: Like the Patriots wouldn't have won ten games two years
- 36:07Speaker 6: ago if all the teams that they played were healthy, right, Like,
- 36:10Speaker 6: that's ridiculous.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I think I think they were talking about like season
- 36:13Speaker 1: long wages, but still right.
- 36:14Speaker 6: No, I'm saying like people that bet the under of
- 36:17Speaker 6: a team's win total, right, and they end up instead
- 36:19Speaker 6: of winning five games, they win seven games because they
- 36:22Speaker 6: didn't they played the Jets without Aaron Rodgers twice.
- 36:25Speaker 4: Right, I wonder I'm surprised, like there wasn't anything like
- 36:28Speaker 4: that when the Bengals Bills game got suspended.
- 36:30Speaker 6: Like, I'm glad that people those bets were noll and
- 36:33Speaker 6: void were because of that game. Yeah, because it didn't.
- 36:36Speaker 6: It has to go a certain amount of time.
- 36:38Speaker 1: It wasn't a result. Shotty from Beirut Lebanon right. Sin
- 36:42Speaker 1: Evan is absolutely spot on the amount of delusion and
- 36:45Speaker 1: happiness that I've seen from the fan base for an
- 36:47Speaker 1: offense that scored twenty points and failed to win the
- 36:50Speaker 1: game despite having two chances to do so is baffling
- 36:53Speaker 1: to me. This is similar to every showing from last season.
- 36:56Speaker 1: They're in a hole, they make a mini comeback and
- 36:58Speaker 1: don't actually win the game. A question for everyone did
- 37:02Speaker 1: anyone think Mac would win us the game in either
- 37:04Speaker 1: of those two drives? I did not. It was an
- 37:07Speaker 1: all two fight script.
- 37:09Speaker 6: The first ve when when Jabrill Pepper's forced to fumble.
- 37:11Speaker 6: I thought they were gonna get out in the score.
- 37:13Speaker 6: Me too, Yeah, I did not have the same confidence
- 37:15Speaker 6: the second time around because of what happened on.
- 37:17Speaker 8: The first I had no confidence at any point.
- 37:19Speaker 6: No, and Evan is not exaggerating. He was sitting he
- 37:22Speaker 6: really didn't. He was sitting between Mike and I and
- 37:24Speaker 6: he did not have any confidence.
- 37:25Speaker 4: I think once I see Mac complete a comeback, then
- 37:29Speaker 4: I will have some confidence.
- 37:30Speaker 8: But for now, I don't that. I don't love the
- 37:33Speaker 8: stat of fourth quarter comebacks and game winning drives because
- 37:36Speaker 8: there's a lot of context involved in these stats. But
- 37:39Speaker 8: he is one fourth quarter comeback and game winning drive
- 37:43Speaker 8: the same game Houston his rookie season. One time he
- 37:46Speaker 8: has led a game winning drive in thirty three starts.
- 37:49Speaker 8: And that that to me is not just on the quarterback,
- 37:52Speaker 8: but just in general. Like I don't I don't know
- 37:55Speaker 8: if you can explain clutch, like how do you like,
- 37:58Speaker 8: how do you coach that? How do you cay But
- 38:01Speaker 8: we see this all the time out at practice where
- 38:03Speaker 8: Bill will say two minutes to go, you're down by four,
- 38:08Speaker 8: you need a touchdown, defense needs to stop a touchdown,
- 38:12Speaker 8: go play, And I don't keep track of who wins
- 38:17Speaker 8: every single time. But the point is is that they
- 38:19Speaker 8: run through these scenarios all summer long, and yet when
- 38:25Speaker 8: it gets to the game, they never have it, Like,
- 38:27Speaker 8: they never have the ability when the chips are down
- 38:31Speaker 8: and the money's on the line. And in this league,
- 38:34Speaker 8: that's such a big difference between ten and seven in
- 38:37Speaker 8: the playoffs and eight and nine and out of the playoffs.
- 38:39Speaker 8: Are these little swing games that happen, like that's a
- 38:42Speaker 8: game that if they're eight and eight going into the
- 38:44Speaker 8: last game of the year and they're out of the
- 38:46Speaker 8: playoff picture or whatever, we're going to look back and
- 38:48Speaker 8: be like, oh, they had a chance to play the
- 38:50Speaker 8: pill game.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I mean, I was watching Cleveland and the Bengals and
- 38:54Speaker 1: it was like, I don't know, a real low scoring
- 38:56Speaker 1: game until the end, then they started putting points on it.
- 39:00Speaker 1: That's the NFL these days. You know.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Let's just look at all of I mean, every one
- 39:04Speaker 3: of the Super Bowls that that they Patriots played in,
- 39:06Speaker 3: I mean, every single one of them came down to
- 39:07Speaker 3: needing to be clutch at the end. I Mean, I
- 39:09Speaker 3: just think it goes back to the general sentiment about
- 39:12Speaker 3: the team that it's just it's a very narrow path
- 39:14Speaker 3: to victory. And it's not just about the last drive.
- 39:16Speaker 3: It's about the whole game. You know, It's about the
- 39:18Speaker 3: mistakes that were made on the first two drives, you
- 39:21Speaker 3: know that eventually come back and catch up with you.
- 39:23Speaker 3: It's not just you know, in a vacuum. Here, let's
- 39:25Speaker 3: run one drive at the end of the game.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Let's let's play a game. If the if the Patriots
- 39:30Speaker 1: offense is to improve, what will be their identity?
- 39:36Speaker 3: Just I would have to be pinpoint execution. I think,
- 39:38Speaker 3: you know, get healthy and you know, maybe involved Mario
- 39:42Speaker 3: Douglas a little bit more. I mean, I'm sure we'll
- 39:44Speaker 3: get to talk a little bit about Juju. But you know,
- 39:46Speaker 3: I think everybody feels pretty good about Hendrick Born right now.
- 39:50Speaker 3: You know, so was it Born Parker Douglas.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Will it be like an offense that shredsed that you
- 39:56Speaker 1: know a thousand cuts?
- 39:57Speaker 6: Yes, definite.
- 39:59Speaker 8: Yeah, I think points spot on, pinpoint execution.
- 40:02Speaker 4: It's gonna be precision and no mistakes at all. Like
- 40:05Speaker 4: it's gonna have to be like elite special teams, precision
- 40:07Speaker 4: on offense, no turnovers at all.
- 40:09Speaker 6: It's gonna have you.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Perfect And then when they do have a that one
- 40:12Speaker 1: or two mistake per game, the defense bails them out.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I mean, look, nobody's gonna play perfect, you know,
- 40:17Speaker 3: like no offense should be expected like that. It's not
- 40:20Speaker 3: like you're on a razor's edge of you know, walking
- 40:22Speaker 3: that narrow. But you know, at least when you stack
- 40:24Speaker 3: eighty ninety percent of the game is excellent execution, then
- 40:27Speaker 3: it does give you a little bit of a margin forever.
- 40:30Speaker 3: But certainly, you know, to Tesmaris, but you can't start
- 40:32Speaker 3: out in a sixteen to nothing hole, like this team
- 40:35Speaker 3: is not built for that at all. So fast starts,
- 40:37Speaker 3: good finishes are imperative.
- 40:39Speaker 8: This game followed so many Patriots trends of the score
- 40:44Speaker 8: twenty five points exactly, they're oh to eleven with Mac
- 40:47Speaker 8: Jones as a starter when the opponent scores twenty five
- 40:49Speaker 8: plus comebacks, can't do it, like all these trends that
- 40:54Speaker 8: they over the last you know, two and a half
- 40:56Speaker 8: years of Mac, Like it's all the it's all the
- 40:58Speaker 8: same trends of this game. Check the boxes on. You
- 41:01Speaker 8: dig yourself into that hole. You can't mouth the comeback,
- 41:03Speaker 8: you can't score more than twenty five, Like those are
- 41:06Speaker 8: all the things that this team has just not been
- 41:09Speaker 8: able to do.
- 41:10Speaker 4: I also feel like you just can't teach someone how
- 41:12Speaker 4: to be clutched or to have ice in their veins.
- 41:14Speaker 4: You have it or you don't, and you can't as
- 41:16Speaker 4: much as you can work on it, like practice it
- 41:19Speaker 4: at practice, you just have it or you don't.
- 41:21Speaker 3: I'd say the same thing about greatness, you know, like
- 41:23Speaker 3: just greatness is innate, like you know, and I think
- 41:26Speaker 3: everybody agrees Mac works super hard, Like I don't think
- 41:28Speaker 3: there's a quarterback in the league probably that is putting
- 41:31Speaker 3: more of himself into his job and what he's doing.
- 41:33Speaker 3: But you know, at some point, it just it has
- 41:35Speaker 3: to translate to a jump, you know. And I don't
- 41:38Speaker 3: think anybody, even those that are trumpeting the performance with
- 41:41Speaker 3: the yardage and the touchdowns, are saying that, you know,
- 41:43Speaker 3: this is another level we haven't seen. Certainly deserves credit
- 41:46Speaker 3: for those touchdown throws in the red zone. I mean,
- 41:48Speaker 3: we didn't see that last year, So I do have
- 41:50Speaker 3: to give them. And that's why I thought I thought
- 41:52Speaker 3: they were gonna win. I thought that they had a
- 41:53Speaker 3: little juice in the red zone. And you know, I
- 41:55Speaker 3: guess I'm I'm still used to when those things happen
- 41:58Speaker 3: with Brady, Like how many times did they come back
- 42:00Speaker 3: and not get the job done? Like I just thought
- 42:03Speaker 3: of San Francisco in twenty twelve where it was like,
- 42:05Speaker 3: oh my gosh, come back, to come back, to come back,
- 42:07Speaker 3: and then it's like not a comeback. You know, it's
- 42:09Speaker 3: a few times, but you just felt when the momentum shifted,
- 42:12Speaker 3: they're going to face shit it enough.
- 42:13Speaker 8: Where you ye, well, that's the thing is Like I
- 42:16Speaker 8: feel like we always remember the Patriots front running in
- 42:19Speaker 8: the Brady years, like just killing every single team, But
- 42:22Speaker 8: there were so many games where they made a lot
- 42:26Speaker 8: of mistakes, you know, twenty eight to three, like right,
- 42:29Speaker 8: you need to just.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Make twenty thirteen the Broncos that huge hole.
- 42:32Speaker 8: You just make a n of mistakes and they just
- 42:35Speaker 8: were able to climb out of them all. And that
- 42:37Speaker 8: this team needs to front run, like they need to
- 42:40Speaker 8: play from ahead, they need to play at their tempo
- 42:42Speaker 8: and at their game script and then they can win.
- 42:45Speaker 8: But when the game script does, when the script doesn't
- 42:47Speaker 8: go to plan, they don't they don't have a plan
- 42:50Speaker 8: B Like they can't win those types of games. And
- 42:53Speaker 8: I think we always forget how many of those there
- 42:55Speaker 8: really were.
- 42:55Speaker 6: And I think in terms of the script, I agree
- 42:58Speaker 6: with you one thousand percent about the game script. But
- 43:00Speaker 6: I also think that's largely true for Mac. I think
- 43:03Speaker 6: when he's shown like more often than not, that he'll
- 43:07Speaker 6: get the ball where it's supposed to go if everything
- 43:09Speaker 6: looks right. And I even go to that last the
- 43:11Speaker 6: last pass to Booty, I thought it was I mean,
- 43:16Speaker 6: I totally understand where Evan's coming from. You maybe it
- 43:19Speaker 6: was a little tick late and that allowed the corner.
- 43:22Speaker 6: I think it was Job. Was it the former Alabama
- 43:25Speaker 6: kid right that was sick during the week. Yeah, he's
- 43:27Speaker 6: the one that I thought made a really underrated play
- 43:29Speaker 6: by pushing Booty out of bounds. He's pushed the booty
- 43:35Speaker 6: and maybe you know, a savvy er wide out like
- 43:38Speaker 6: Parker who's excellent with the toe taps right, Ye, maybe
- 43:41Speaker 6: he drags the foot before that push comes. Maybe if
- 43:44Speaker 6: it throws a split second earlier, like Evan said. But
- 43:46Speaker 6: I thought that was one of his better throws of
- 43:47Speaker 6: the day, if not the best. Tha that's you know,
- 43:51Speaker 6: games on the line. But how did it come about?
- 43:54Speaker 6: Back foot snap, backfoot balls out, boom, nothing to look
- 43:58Speaker 6: at nothing to think about the this is where I'm going,
- 44:00Speaker 6: and I'm gonna throw with conviction. But to your point
- 44:04Speaker 6: on the fourth and three, I think that might have
- 44:07Speaker 6: They might have been trying to get Juju on some
- 44:09Speaker 6: kind of an option route that he was not prepared for.
- 44:14Speaker 6: And I heard a lot of people talking about this
- 44:15Speaker 6: yesterday in the radio. I watched the same play. I
- 44:18Speaker 6: kind of got the same you know when you said
- 44:20Speaker 6: he may may have had born to off script, off platform,
- 44:24Speaker 6: And this is why, like I sort of bristle at
- 44:26Speaker 6: the well, Brady couldn't throw on the run either. No,
- 44:29Speaker 6: Brady wasn't a great on the run, like stripped on
- 44:31Speaker 6: the run passer, but he could move around off platform
- 44:34Speaker 6: and make plays. And I think back way even early
- 44:38Speaker 6: in his career to that bomb in overtime to Troy Brown,
- 44:41Speaker 6: where he's buying time in the pocket, back pedaling and
- 44:44Speaker 6: throwing the ball sixty yards downfield to you know, in
- 44:48Speaker 6: stride to Troy Brown for a touchdown. Mac doesn't and
- 44:52Speaker 6: it's not about like Armstead. He doesn't. I don't think
- 44:55Speaker 6: have the ability to rip the ball unless he's really
- 44:58Speaker 6: got his base underneath him.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Rhythm in rhythm and he can do it like grow.
- 45:02Speaker 6: It's arm strength is not a problem when everything is
- 45:05Speaker 6: okay when it comes into play and we how many
- 45:08Speaker 6: times do we say, my god, he's just like floating
- 45:10Speaker 6: them into you know, traffic and defensive team meetings. Two
- 45:14Speaker 6: is very similar. I think these two quarterbacks are really similar.
- 45:18Speaker 6: And I watched a little. I didn't watch the whole game,
- 45:20Speaker 6: but I watched a little of the highlight package. Two
- 45:22Speaker 6: was going to give you some chances. He gave the
- 45:24Speaker 6: Chargers some chances for picks the other day. Only one
- 45:26Speaker 6: of them got intercepted. I would say the same thing
- 45:28Speaker 6: about Mac. You know, he's gonna throw it fifty four times.
- 45:31Speaker 6: The Eagles got their hands on five or six of
- 45:33Speaker 6: them or had a chance even if they didn't hit them,
- 45:37Speaker 6: they had a chance to make a play on more
- 45:40Speaker 6: than the one that they picked off.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Eight five five pats five hundred is the ace ticket
- 45:44Speaker 1: hut line. Let's open the phones up. We'll go to
- 45:47Speaker 1: Sean and Vancouver. What's up, Sean?
- 45:50Speaker 9: Yeah, I, like the most rest of you, or just
- 45:52Speaker 9: about everybody, I was disappointed that didn't win, but I
- 45:54Speaker 9: was encouraged because you know, as you probably know, my
- 45:58Speaker 9: focus is more on the future. I didn't expect the
- 46:03Speaker 9: Patriots to beat the Eagles. This is a game that
- 46:07Speaker 9: was a huge, huge challenge, and you know, the Patriots
- 46:11Speaker 9: made mistakes. We've been pointing them out. They need to
- 46:13Speaker 9: work keeping the ball down and a pop is not
- 46:16Speaker 9: that tall. They need to make better decisions like taking
- 46:19Speaker 9: points and believing in your defense. That's something they need
- 46:22Speaker 9: to do as well. And wide receivers that work on
- 46:25Speaker 9: those tool taps. As a rookie, you can do that.
- 46:28Speaker 9: And I have some confidence that these things will happen
- 46:32Speaker 9: over the year and they'll be better moving forward. And now,
- 46:36Speaker 9: like I said, this Eagles game was a huge challenge.
- 46:38Speaker 9: Areas that the Patriots had to work on that were
- 46:41Speaker 9: problems last year. Stopping mobile quarterbacks.
- 46:43Speaker 1: They did that this.
- 46:44Speaker 9: Game, you know, keeping yards down against top offense, and
- 46:48Speaker 9: they kept the Eagles down mostly. Again, the defense played
- 46:51Speaker 9: really well and you know, depending the tight ends. Sure
- 46:53Speaker 9: the Eagles only target at Dallas Dot Are once and
- 46:56Speaker 9: it's probably open, but we don't know if he'll catch
- 46:58Speaker 9: a ball, so maybe they were good at that too.
- 47:01Speaker 9: Also giving up pressure like that. Had that offensive line,
- 47:05Speaker 9: my god, they had two rookie backup guards in there
- 47:08Speaker 9: and the right tackle that never played for the Patriots
- 47:10Speaker 9: were not even in the three seasons Calvin Anderson. I
- 47:12Speaker 9: think he did pretty well and they didn't give up
- 47:15Speaker 9: a back until the end of the fourth quarter. But
- 47:16Speaker 9: most importantly, and Fred, you were saying, this is a
- 47:19Speaker 9: key for this moving forward is mac Jones has to
- 47:23Speaker 9: be better than he was two years ago. And I
- 47:25Speaker 9: have confidence now I haven't seen it, but now in
- 47:29Speaker 9: this game it looks like, yeah, maybe he can't. Sure
- 47:32Speaker 9: they don't have a deep threat. The running game didn't work,
- 47:35Speaker 9: so he had to do the quick throwsers like no
- 47:39Speaker 9: chance to play action with you know, being down sixteen early.
- 47:43Speaker 9: But maybe if they have someone besides Born to go deep,
- 47:47Speaker 9: that will work moving forward. So that's what I'm saying
- 47:50Speaker 9: is I'm encouraged and I'm optimistic now from that game,
- 47:55Speaker 9: even though it was a really disappointing loss.
- 47:57Speaker 1: All right, thanks Sean.
- 47:59Speaker 8: I just don't know where they are optimism comes from.
- 48:00Speaker 8: I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so negative, but like,
- 48:04Speaker 8: what what what have they shown that they're gonna especially
- 48:08Speaker 8: at the quarterback, that he's going to take like some
- 48:10Speaker 8: giant lead forward. I just I don't know where that defensively,
- 48:16Speaker 8: I get it.
- 48:18Speaker 6: Like everything Sean said about the defense, I would agree
- 48:20Speaker 6: with him and I and I get the optimism there.
- 48:24Speaker 6: The other part, like, I think we're talking about this
- 48:26Speaker 6: team like it's a little engine that could and I
- 48:29Speaker 6: don't think we should be in that situation four years
- 48:31Speaker 6: into the rebuilt process. I like the fact that some
- 48:35Speaker 6: young guys got their feet wet the other day. But Mike,
- 48:38Speaker 6: this is something you harp on a lot, and I
- 48:39Speaker 6: agree with you. That'd be great if you retain you know,
- 48:45Speaker 6: the almost two dozen guys that are going to be
- 48:47Speaker 6: coming up. You know, you know where's Douga going to
- 48:49Speaker 6: be next year? Where's or when You're going to be
- 48:51Speaker 6: next year? You know, whiz gonna be. I mean, I'm
- 48:54Speaker 6: not advocating that they all return. I don't think that's
- 48:56Speaker 6: the right way to go either. Don't fall in love
- 48:58Speaker 6: with all of your your own players. But if all
- 49:01Speaker 6: of those guys are gone and then you know, okay,
- 49:04Speaker 6: great because we have Keyon White and Marte Mapu, but
- 49:07Speaker 6: only for three more years after this, Like that's not
- 49:11Speaker 6: like then you're constantly in this thing and the age
- 49:14Speaker 6: of the roster, to me is I don't care like
- 49:17Speaker 6: everybody says how young they are because they have eleven
- 49:18Speaker 6: rookies on the on the team. Well, I saw a
- 49:22Speaker 6: stat that like in terms of average age, they're like
- 49:24Speaker 6: twenty sixth.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Oh, they got a bunch of guys that skew that,
- 49:28Speaker 1: Like who Slater?
- 49:29Speaker 6: Who else?
- 49:30Speaker 1: Other people?
- 49:32Speaker 6: I mean with with you cut the thirty eight year
- 49:35Speaker 6: old kicker. That was the thing. Last year you had
- 49:37Speaker 6: Slater and Folk. Now you just have Slater. One guy
- 49:40Speaker 6: ain't skewing.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Fifty three And that's the front of the line. And
- 49:44Speaker 3: I mean, I it's lots of dissect there. I mean,
- 49:47Speaker 3: I think I said it to Evan during the game.
- 49:48Speaker 3: I'm like, so you're gonna kind of play dugger at
- 49:50Speaker 3: free safety now, so he's not going to really have
- 49:53Speaker 3: the play making that he did.
- 49:54Speaker 6: I'm not even getting into I'm not even getting into
- 49:56Speaker 6: the dark place that you're going with.
- 49:58Speaker 3: So you know, you're kind of setting it up as
- 50:00Speaker 3: he's not going to have a statistically productive year. He
- 50:03Speaker 3: might be very value.
- 50:04Speaker 6: We're going to try to keep his market value down.
- 50:06Speaker 6: I'm not even going to that dark.
- 50:08Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not saying that it's and I'm not
- 50:09Speaker 3: saying that it's that it's you know, purposeful. I mean
- 50:12Speaker 3: I think that he probably is their best option. And
- 50:15Speaker 3: and you know they spun the dialogue like you know,
- 50:17Speaker 3: Pepper's had a nice play playing free safety, Like you
- 50:19Speaker 3: know Moles would be back there a little bit, but
- 50:22Speaker 3: the same thing he played twenty four snaps, you know,
- 50:24Speaker 3: Like I mean, I know, it's a mobile quarterback and
- 50:27Speaker 3: you know it's not the drop back passer.
- 50:28Speaker 6: And that's that's what a guy like that, that's that's athletic.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Well, certainly a guy that you know, had what twelve
- 50:34Speaker 3: sacks last year and is going to be a free agent,
- 50:36Speaker 3: is probably going to have a demand as a pass rusher.
- 50:38Speaker 3: And you know he's still just a role player in
- 50:41Speaker 3: this defense. And I just I wonder how much they
- 50:43Speaker 3: value him. And then you got two rookie guards who
- 50:46Speaker 3: were both getting experience right out of the gate. What's
- 50:48Speaker 3: that going to do for Michael and win?
- 50:50Speaker 4: You?
- 50:50Speaker 3: I mean, if you really what if? If?
- 50:51Speaker 6: If so?
- 50:51Speaker 3: I mean, Evan, I think you wrote you like so
- 50:53Speaker 3: better as a as a guard. I mean I think
- 50:55Speaker 3: you look better too. He wasn't great, but I mean.
- 50:57Speaker 8: Had some struggles, but but he was better.
- 50:59Speaker 3: But you got some you have something to.
- 51:01Speaker 5: Work right back.
- 51:03Speaker 6: Yeah, they gave up a lot of pressures to be sure,
- 51:05Speaker 6: but they tried, so Fred, Yeah, they passed fifty eight
- 51:09Speaker 6: six fifty eight.
- 51:11Speaker 8: He dropped dive fifty eight times with penalties and stuff
- 51:14Speaker 8: like that.
- 51:14Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, so I mean they get up a I
- 51:16Speaker 6: think I saw something from PFF. I don't know if
- 51:18Speaker 6: it's accurate that they was about a third of the place,
- 51:21Speaker 6: about third of the pass player. They got pressure one,
- 51:23Speaker 6: which is a pretty I mean that's a pretty significant total.
- 51:26Speaker 6: But to Fred's point, it didn't break down the offense. Yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 6: when Fred, you said that off off the at the top,
- 51:32Speaker 6: they did. They did a great job of getting the
- 51:34Speaker 6: ball out really quickly. Mac took some hits, to be sure,
- 51:37Speaker 6: and some of those hits that he took, he delivered
- 51:40Speaker 6: pretty good passes on. Yeah, in fairness to him.
- 51:42Speaker 3: And that's why I wonder some of you know, not
- 51:44Speaker 3: all of it, but some of you know when you
- 51:46Speaker 3: have a bad offensive line, you're gonna throw a lot
- 51:48Speaker 3: of screen passes. You know you're gonna tempt an aggressive
- 51:50Speaker 3: front four with screen passes. And were there too money? Probably,
- 51:53Speaker 3: but you know, I just think that probably an underrated
- 51:56Speaker 3: element of all this is just they had a lot
- 51:57Speaker 3: of stuff they were working around here in this first game,
- 51:59Speaker 3: and that's not an excuse. They might have to work
- 52:01Speaker 3: around it this week too. But I do think that
- 52:03Speaker 3: there were at least some early elements you could point
- 52:06Speaker 3: to that that could see.
- 52:07Speaker 6: Sixteen targets for running backs in this game.
- 52:10Speaker 8: Yeah, past yeah, the blocking. I thought pass protection wise
- 52:14Speaker 8: they were at thirty one percent. Was there the pressure
- 52:16Speaker 8: rate against and anywhere between thirty and thirty five you're
- 52:20Speaker 8: like in the danger zone, but you're not really it's
- 52:22Speaker 8: not danger I don't think it was. I don't think
- 52:24Speaker 8: it's the Travis thirty five plus is like, okay, this
- 52:27Speaker 8: is this is a bad game, Like this is a problem.
- 52:30Speaker 8: You know, Jalen Hurds has at forty two percent, so
- 52:32Speaker 8: the defense got after Jalen hurts. But I would just say,
- 52:35Speaker 8: you know, the biggest thing I thought was that the
- 52:38Speaker 8: individual pressure is added up because how many times they
- 52:41Speaker 8: dropped back. So I don't really like hurt them that
- 52:43Speaker 8: much for that. The run game, though, was was a mess.
- 52:46Speaker 8: They had a lot of trouble. Now, this group that
- 52:49Speaker 8: hasn't worked together a lot, so when you start talking
- 52:52Speaker 8: about working combination blocks and timing and rhythm in the
- 52:55Speaker 8: run game. And you have Soe who played tackle the
- 52:58Speaker 8: entire summer and now he's playing guard and you have
- 53:01Speaker 8: all these different moving parts. That's part of it. But
- 53:03Speaker 8: the run game was really worried something that the past
- 53:06Speaker 8: protection was better than I expected.
- 53:07Speaker 1: Christians in La.
- 53:08Speaker 6: What's up?
- 53:09Speaker 1: Christian? Christian? Christian in La? Going once twice sold? Let's
- 53:19Speaker 1: see what this mouse is stuff? John is in Louisiana.
- 53:24Speaker 1: What's up? John?
- 53:26Speaker 10: Hey? What's up?
- 53:26Speaker 4: Y'all?
- 53:27Speaker 1: Hey?
- 53:27Speaker 3: Hey John?
- 53:28Speaker 11: I'm I just feel like y'all giving Mack a little
- 53:32Speaker 11: too much on the shoulders. I mean, can we talk
- 53:34Speaker 11: about the play calling towards the end of the game.
- 53:36Speaker 11: I mean, and in the ball off is on the
- 53:40Speaker 11: what third and three?
- 53:41Speaker 1: Terrible call?
- 53:42Speaker 6: I agree with you, John, I didn't like that call
- 53:44Speaker 6: at all.
- 53:45Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 53:46Speaker 11: And I think even though we know Mac doesn't have
- 53:48Speaker 11: the ability to get out of the pocket, it is like,
- 53:50Speaker 11: let's I don't like the third and lungs that. Then
- 53:53Speaker 11: now Mac has to be extra, you know what I mean?
- 53:55Speaker 11: I like to be com from anywhere third and four
- 53:58Speaker 11: thirty three and stuff like that. But my last question
- 54:00Speaker 11: is how do you feel about discussion on both us.
- 54:02Speaker 11: I don't think we did some.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Good about special teams.
- 54:06Speaker 6: Little bit of a mixed mixed bag.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Thanks John for the.
- 54:09Speaker 6: Patriots special teams. I thought Marcus Jones had a terrific
- 54:13Speaker 6: punt return in his first attempt. Then I think he
- 54:16Speaker 6: lost his mind for the rest of the game, right.
- 54:18Speaker 6: I thought he made some very questions every time now
- 54:20Speaker 6: very questionable decisions, fumbled one of them fortunately went out
- 54:24Speaker 6: of bounds. Ty Montgomery had one really good kick return,
- 54:28Speaker 6: so that would be the positive stuff. The two plus returns,
- 54:32Speaker 6: I thought Barringer was a little inconsistent, bad touchback on
- 54:36Speaker 6: one of them. Another one where I thought he had
- 54:38Speaker 6: a chance for a plus fifty. I think he got
- 54:39Speaker 6: to the like eighteen, which okay, goes down is inside
- 54:43Speaker 6: the twenty, but not a great kick. They lost on
- 54:48Speaker 6: one of Barringer's really long punts. They lost containing gave
- 54:53Speaker 6: like a thirty yard return the other way. I think
- 54:54Speaker 6: it was like twenty five thirty yard, So mixed bag.
- 54:58Speaker 6: I didn't think it was bad, it wasn't last year,
- 55:02Speaker 6: but I thought it was a little mixed bag.
- 55:04Speaker 8: Would you guys think, Yeah, it sounds about right, Yeah,
- 55:06Speaker 8: I didn't think it wasn't anything that they like. It
- 55:09Speaker 8: wasn't a game changing difference, you know.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't see a lot
- 55:14Speaker 1: of flags on the Patriots on special teams, which.
- 55:16Speaker 6: I don't think there were any real flags on special teams.
- 55:18Speaker 1: I think there was one, No, was there. Yeah, I
- 55:21Speaker 1: think there was a hold maybe on I think there
- 55:26Speaker 1: was at least one. But anyway, but we saw a
- 55:29Speaker 1: lot of that last year. We didn't see that. Yeah.
- 55:32Speaker 8: The one the one nipick I had about the special
- 55:34Speaker 8: teams was they got to do a better job blocking
- 55:36Speaker 8: the gunners on the punt team. I'm not really sure.
- 55:40Speaker 8: They have this new thing that they were doing where
- 55:42Speaker 8: they had Slater in the middle and he was at
- 55:45Speaker 8: like about eight to ten yards, and then they had
- 55:47Speaker 8: Jabriel as the up guy, which they've done in the
- 55:49Speaker 8: past with like Ammondola and Edelman. So they have the
- 55:51Speaker 8: short guy they received the short punt, and then the
- 55:54Speaker 8: Marcus Jones all the way back deep. But when you
- 55:56Speaker 8: have three guys in the middle of the field like that,
- 55:59Speaker 8: you're one on one on the outside on the gunners.
- 56:02Speaker 8: So a couple of the times that Marcus Jones field
- 56:04Speaker 8: to the ball and you know, took some of those hits.
- 56:06Speaker 8: I agree with Paul that I think he was trying
- 56:08Speaker 8: to make a play. I think, you know, he knows
- 56:10Speaker 8: he's one of the more explosive guys on the team,
- 56:12Speaker 8: and he's trying to make something happen. But I wonder
- 56:15Speaker 8: if maybe they start to double team the gunners.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I remember saying, where's the vice guys?
- 56:20Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I just thought, and I know why.
- 56:24Speaker 6: Evan's absolutely right, that's why Marcus Jones is choosing to
- 56:27Speaker 6: make those plays. But man, they were fortunate not to
- 56:30Speaker 6: lose the ball at all, and I think there was
- 56:32Speaker 6: two of them.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Daniel Wright saying, can someone explain to me what
- 56:36Speaker 1: Bill was thinking to go on fourth down rather than
- 56:39Speaker 1: kick the field goal. I was at the game and
- 56:41Speaker 1: when they went for it, everyone was shaking their heads
- 56:44Speaker 1: and figured it would cost us, and sure enough it did.
- 56:47Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean it seems like, well, I mean there's
- 56:50Speaker 3: a couple different things we're talking about, right, Like to
- 56:52Speaker 3: midfield goals.
- 56:53Speaker 8: I mean there was four they went for it four times,
- 56:55Speaker 8: so there's a bunch of different scenarios to work through.
- 56:57Speaker 8: But the one at the beginning in the fourth quarter,
- 56:59Speaker 8: think there's about nine minutes to go, and they went
- 57:01Speaker 8: for it on four down, down eight, and I that one,
- 57:05Speaker 8: to me was like what are you doing? Like you
- 57:07Speaker 8: make it a five point game? Now a touchdown wins
- 57:10Speaker 8: the game. Instead the Eagles get the ball back and
- 57:12Speaker 8: go up eleven. I hated it, and because to me, like,
- 57:15Speaker 8: I don't know how you guys feel, but like eight
- 57:16Speaker 8: points to me is a two score game because you
- 57:18Speaker 8: need the touchdown and you need the two point conversion.
- 57:21Speaker 8: So you need to make two things happen in order
- 57:23Speaker 8: to get up at eight point. So I always love
- 57:26Speaker 8: if you're down eight, like, eliminate the two point conversion,
- 57:29Speaker 8: Like it's easier to kick a field goal, I think
- 57:31Speaker 8: sometimes than it is to get the two point conversion.
- 57:33Speaker 8: So that's the one that I would.
- 57:35Speaker 1: That's a good one. That's a good way to think
- 57:37Speaker 1: of it.
- 57:37Speaker 6: I don't look at it that way. I mean Evan
- 57:40Speaker 6: and I arrive at the same spot in terms of
- 57:43Speaker 6: our thoughts on the To me, eight is still you
- 57:47Speaker 6: know it's one. All you need is one score, one
- 57:48Speaker 6: possession to get eight. I get the the thing, but
- 57:52Speaker 6: I there's a couple of things here. That really bothered me,
- 57:56Speaker 6: and you know I won't. I know, I've been through
- 57:58Speaker 6: this with you guys, so I'll do the abridge version.
- 58:02Speaker 6: The first they had fourth and eight and they could
- 58:05Speaker 6: have had a fifty four yard field goal, and they
- 58:07Speaker 6: chose to go for it. Okay, that to me is
- 58:11Speaker 6: at least understandable. It's the fourth quarter of an eight
- 58:15Speaker 6: point game, and you don't want your rookie kickers first
- 58:17Speaker 6: ever NFL attempt. I think Evan, you said this to
- 58:19Speaker 6: me during the game, to be a fifty four yard attempt,
- 58:22Speaker 6: you know, in rainy conditions. Even if it wasn't raining
- 58:25Speaker 6: per se at the time, it was obviously sloppy. So
- 58:28Speaker 6: maybe that's why he passed that one up, got bailed
- 58:30Speaker 6: out by an unbelievable Hunter Henry one handed catchy. But
- 58:35Speaker 6: you have fourth and three from the seventeen with ten
- 58:37Speaker 6: minutes left in the game. I don't think that one's defensible.
- 58:43Speaker 6: He what really bugged me was the postgame talk where
- 58:46Speaker 6: he said we didn't know how many more times we
- 58:48Speaker 6: were going to be down there, which is understandable because
- 58:51Speaker 6: you don't expect in the last ten minutes of the
- 58:53Speaker 6: game to be inside the red zone two more times,
- 58:55Speaker 6: but at least once, but once you could have expected
- 58:59Speaker 6: to be down there. And I think that what ended
- 59:03Speaker 6: up happening is he put it in a situation where
- 59:05Speaker 6: the Eagles could kind of close the game out with
- 59:08Speaker 6: one drive, and that's exactly what happened. The Eagles took
- 59:12Speaker 6: the ball after that failed fourth down, drove down the field,
- 59:15Speaker 6: kicked a field goal, and made it a two score game.
- 59:17Speaker 6: Now you fortunately had another chance because the Eagles turned
- 59:20Speaker 6: it over their last two times that they had the ball,
- 59:23Speaker 6: and you couldn't certainly couldn't rely on that. But when
- 59:28Speaker 6: Bill said there was six minutes left, that bugged me
- 59:31Speaker 6: because either he was not remembering the situation, which is
- 59:35Speaker 6: not good, or he was purposely trying to be cute
- 59:39Speaker 6: there and see if he could get one past everybody.
- 59:42Speaker 6: And either way, I didn't like it. And I also
- 59:45Speaker 6: thought on fourth and seventeen, you have to punt after
- 59:48Speaker 6: the Jabrill Peppers force fumble. Patriots ended up getting sacked
- 59:51Speaker 6: on that drive. Then they take a delay a game.
- 59:53Speaker 6: It's fourth and seventeen from the forty eight yard line,
- 59:56Speaker 6: punt the ball pin them. It makes it easier to
- 59:58Speaker 6: play defense again. He got b out by his defense,
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: which forced to four and out. But you again, do
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: you think they were going to go for fourth down
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: from their own fifteen if you punted right? So you
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: put the you make your defense's job even harder.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 8: I saw my question to Bill, and I because I
- 1:00:15Speaker 8: the postgame thing bubbed me a little bit too. I
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: was like, that's it's not you're not that's not the right,
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: That's not what the question was about. The question was
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: about the nine minute mark why he didn't kick the
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: field goal, And I just wonder. I asked him a
- 1:00:28Speaker 8: few years ago about using analytics with those types of things,
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: and he completely scoffed at any sort of math being involved.
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: Is it analytics? Like who's responsible now for being in
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: Bill's ear and saying, this is what our chart, whatever
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: it is that they use, whether it's a chart or
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: it's what if it's just him, If it's just Bill's gut,
- 1:00:50Speaker 8: then that concerns me. I don't need it to be
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: like some nerds win probability calculator necessarily, but there has
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: to be like a method to the madness. And if
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: he's just going based off of feel, then that's concerning.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: And so and just to clarify because there's been a
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: lot of talk about the time on third and three
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: from the seventeen They snapped the ball with ten minutes
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: and thirteen seconds left. That's a long way from six minutes.
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: That's a long way from six minutes. Like everybody's like, oh,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: it was like nine minutes late. He was off by No,
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: he was off by four minutes. By the time they
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: snapped the ball on fourth down. There was still nine
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: to thirty nine left, not six minutes. So either he
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: was talking about something else or when was the lost.
- 1:01:36Speaker 8: When was the because they went for it on fourth
- 1:01:38Speaker 8: down again after that and doing for it on fourth
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: and seventeen, right, that was after that?
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, the fourth and seventeen was later in
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: the game, so that was much.
- 1:01:46Speaker 8: There was no fourth down that maybe could have been
- 1:01:48Speaker 8: at the six minute mark that he was confusing with, yeah,
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: because there was four of them, So like I, you
- 1:01:54Speaker 8: weren't really.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: Fourth and seventeen happened with two twenty four left in
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: the game.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, we'll got a lot to talk
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: about still, but Paul's foods here, so we're going to

- 1:03:31Speaker 5: preech through the left side across at twenty five with
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: a cut.
- 1:03:33Speaker 10: To the outside cast mid field, tackled by Mafu Gaywell
- 1:03:37Speaker 10: finished strong last year for the Eagles, had a terrific postseason,
- 1:03:40Speaker 10: and he's got Philly in a first down in New
- 1:03:43Speaker 10: England territory. After that run, that hurts with another first
- 1:03:47Speaker 10: intent from a Patriots twenty two.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: Yeah, sent somebody here.
- 1:03:52Speaker 10: He works with two receivers right q left, including a
- 1:03:54Speaker 10: ton on the wing, a thing to the inside.
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: Hurts on the run.
- 1:03:57Speaker 10: Well, you got it, cost Well, and he spills in
- 1:03:59Speaker 10: front of the I'm coming Bentley. He goes down for
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: the loss.
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: Back up the twenty four.
- 1:04:03Speaker 13: If they're gonna do a lot of these RPOs and
- 1:04:05Speaker 13: had decision makings on Jalen Hirts Etcentia awakens, breaking somebody
- 1:04:09Speaker 13: from the backside, so that time's Shayalen Mills down in
- 1:04:11Speaker 13: the box.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: He blocks off that right hand chases him downhill. Nowhere
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: to go for hers make him make quicker decisions his nap.
- 1:04:20Speaker 10: He's a pressure by Judin pick get to the quarterback,
- 1:04:23Speaker 10: put a sack at the fifteen.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: The first of twenty twenty three for mat you don
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: Philadelphia blue lit line call. Here the right tackle didn't
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: extend at all.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: He came down with the cord.
- 1:04:38Speaker 13: So whatever the call was from me from Travis Kelcey
- 1:04:41Speaker 13: in the middle case at Kelsey, his brother made the
- 1:04:44Speaker 13: call and it squeezed the tackle down, which free Judah on.
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: Us, Kennedy said.
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: Jones takes the step format rush good to the nearsid ball,
- 1:04:53Speaker 10: letters off my hands afore and picks off slave las
- 1:04:56Speaker 10: it along the nearside mass at fifty across the point
- 1:04:58Speaker 10: as caught white past Johns. Goodbye to the twenty fifteen
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: to ten. You're gonna turn in a high step into
- 1:05:05Speaker 10: the end.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: Zone for a pick six. It's a bath throw you
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: got all day. He had all day.
- 1:05:11Speaker 13: You're able to step up in the pocket and he
- 1:05:14Speaker 13: throws a high ball to KP Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: When it's raining the way it is now, the ball
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: is slick. You gotta have that ball low.
- 1:05:22Speaker 13: That's the second high pass the game off the deflection
- 1:05:25Speaker 13: and it's pick six, great return for a seventy yarder,
- 1:05:29Speaker 13: and now you're fighting.
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: Up pill again.
- 1:05:33Speaker 10: Instead, it's a Philly first and goal to go just
- 1:05:35Speaker 10: outside the five. Late in the first snap to hurtz
- 1:05:39Speaker 10: Design roll to the right, looking at the end zone,
- 1:05:40Speaker 10: throws on the go low throw to the sideline and
- 1:05:43Speaker 10: that passes cockper a touchdown jail it. It hurts connects to
- 1:05:47Speaker 10: Davon die Smith.
- 1:05:50Speaker 13: To any mistakes, penalties and turnovers turnovers for touchdowns.
- 1:05:59Speaker 10: Elliott with an other kickoff hid to the goal line
- 1:06:01Speaker 10: handled by Montgomery, runs it left side of the ten
- 1:06:04Speaker 10: tige across the twenty a sprinted twenty five thirty Montgomery
- 1:06:06Speaker 10: outside the forty yard line and Montgomery shut down of
- 1:06:09Speaker 10: Allens along the far side in front of the Patriots bench,
- 1:06:12Speaker 10: Ringo with a shove out as the last man back
- 1:06:15Speaker 10: for Philadelphia at the New England forty four.
- 1:06:18Speaker 13: There ain't no flags, all right, You do something with
- 1:06:22Speaker 13: this now, sixteen zip get the ball in midfield.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: Can't have a three and out.
- 1:06:27Speaker 10: Now the Patriots stare at a third and ten down
- 1:06:30Speaker 10: sixteen to nothing. Here of the first quarter, two O
- 1:06:32Speaker 10: three to go, Stevens and chips to the right of Jones.
- 1:06:34Speaker 10: It takes the snap, Eagles rush four pocket collapsing, Jones
- 1:06:38Speaker 10: rolls out left being chased. He throws along the far side.
- 1:06:41Speaker 10: The pass broken up and again a dangerous throat well
- 1:06:44Speaker 10: covered along that far side. Three nine get ship starting
- 1:06:48Speaker 10: safety for the Eagles with a breakup. Here come the
- 1:06:51Speaker 10: boo birds get a buzz kill and Fox crows above
- 1:06:54Speaker 10: the excitement with Tom Brady on hand watching this game.
- 1:06:57Speaker 10: Now who the owner's booth with his family next to
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: the crass that's.
- 1:07:01Speaker 13: Getting dressed up, putting on cologne, little uh, little deodorant.
- 1:07:05Speaker 13: Going to pick the girl up at the house and
- 1:07:06Speaker 13: the thors a lot and she's not home.
- 1:07:09Speaker 10: Must kill a second A goal to go from outside
- 1:07:12Speaker 10: the Philadelphia eight left hash marks.
- 1:07:14Speaker 5: It came ins into the back field as Jones takes
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: the snap. He's cracking. He throws at left corner and
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: the hand up Henri putch down. Patrians, there you go,
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: captain to captain. First tucks down of the year where
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: Jones and Henry. It's a good quick to sice it
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: thrown by Joones. He didn't labor he got it. It's
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: off the back foot.
- 1:07:38Speaker 13: It's a double sea level left, but it's a nine
- 1:07:40Speaker 13: yard touchdown.
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: He takes the snap, he stands and he stands in.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: He fires toward the end of the.
- 1:07:48Speaker 13: Patrians a laser by Jones to Kendrick Board.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: That's the mac Jones from two years ago. Holy folks,
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: he had mustard on.
- 1:08:01Speaker 13: That one, nineteen yard dagger off the skinny.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: Tell you what, Kendrick Born can run the skinny pose.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: We haven't seen it since Dallas two years ago. That's
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: the one he creased it on. And man, it's a
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: bat bang Port knew he had it. Split the coverage.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: We got a game.
- 1:08:22Speaker 10: Fourth down and eat from the Philadelphia thirty six New England.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: Isn't he all Donica Blue? And defense is playing well?
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: Why Hurts has not been lighted up? Defense feels pretty good.
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: I like the factor golf court here, Jones steps forward
- 1:08:36Speaker 10: to set the protections, pointing with his left hand and
- 1:08:39Speaker 10: he motions Kenry to the left with his right hand.
- 1:08:42Speaker 10: He extends the hands. He takes the snap, he stands in,
- 1:08:44Speaker 10: He kill the punches.
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: He throws a quick.
- 1:08:48Speaker 13: Want to catch on one roun A penny folds across,
- 1:08:51Speaker 13: but twenty.
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: Five with a perst down. Oh Man pointed.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Hunter, Henry, save you right here because.
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: This is a tight window. Oh Jones held on to it.
- 1:09:01Speaker 13: Henry gets hit off the route, catches it off the
- 1:09:04Speaker 13: bigger Tips rills it into the Patriots to go fast.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: Now some hesitation. Kausiki started off the far side line
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: for the Patriots. He's called back.
- 1:09:13Speaker 10: No sign of the field goal unit here with a
- 1:09:16Speaker 10: fourth down and a long three coming up.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: The ball on the right hatch of the Eagles seventeen.
- 1:09:21Speaker 10: The already one for once tells you a goal looking
- 1:09:23Speaker 10: for poet chair Elliott to the right of Joe. Three
- 1:09:27Speaker 10: receivers dispersed Wye to the left, one receiver to the
- 1:09:31Speaker 10: right to snap to Matt Jones back in the pocket,
- 1:09:34Speaker 10: rolling try to keep.
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: The play alive.
- 1:09:36Speaker 10: He's hit Clo with the ball incomplete to the right
- 1:09:39Speaker 10: flat for Zee. Gilliot just reddit got to the quarterback.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: Kendrick Horn was there and the Patriots will turn it
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: over on downs. Horne was there, Mac couldn't find.
- 1:09:50Speaker 10: Him still snap to herts Playfa dropping back pressured by
- 1:09:55Speaker 10: Gonzalins fins down Kid a sack for the rookie. He
- 1:10:01Speaker 10: came on the corner blitz and dropped bass in the
- 1:10:03Speaker 10: forty eight streaky corner blitz. This is an opportunity for
- 1:10:07Speaker 10: the Eagles placekicker, the veteran Jake Elliott, who followed Stephen
- 1:10:10Speaker 10: Gostkowski at Memphis down his seventh season.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: To make it a two score game.
- 1:10:16Speaker 10: Going to be a fifty one yard try from an
- 1:10:17Speaker 10: air hash Lovado's staff handled by Sipos. The kick is
- 1:10:21Speaker 10: lifted to the uprights right down the middle to make
- 1:10:24Speaker 10: it twenty five fourteen. Max Netson throws to this.
- 1:10:30Speaker 5: Head by board, his second puts down of the day.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: On the headline is he cuts down.
- 1:10:37Speaker 14: With a throw by Joe.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: Told you this kick could be a weapon. Don't tell
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: me Mac Jones can't throw seeds. Matt Jones trying to
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: catch his breath.
- 1:10:49Speaker 10: With Henry, Smith, Schuster and Born spread out light side left,
- 1:10:55Speaker 10: Kasiki along with Booty to the right.
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: The snap is back on the twelve. Mac goes into
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: the end zone.
- 1:11:01Speaker 10: It's going to be dropped, nearly intercepted at the goal line.
- 1:11:05Speaker 10: They had Hunter, Henry and Gisiki along with Smith Schuster
- 1:11:09Speaker 10: all in.
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: The same vicinity. You gotta careful there too, because that's
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: the kind of play that can be returned.
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: For a score from Philadelphia.
- 1:11:15Speaker 13: They had like a fluster route there, because there's no
- 1:11:17Speaker 13: way that both guys end up in the same spot.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: One's supposed to continue, the other one supposed to undercut it.
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: After Hurts, he's going to run through the left side,
- 1:11:24Speaker 10: a gaping hole, and he's.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: Gonzala. The Patriots have it a fumble recovery at the
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: twenty one.
- 1:11:34Speaker 15: What a the call?
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 1:11:40Speaker 10: And now fourth down and twelve of the Patriots after
- 1:11:42Speaker 10: the fumble forced out Hurts two twenty four to go,
- 1:11:44Speaker 10: twenty five twenty Cats still have all three timeouts left.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: Plush with the doomnute warning Elliot to the right at Jones,
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: Matt takes the steps timeout.
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: Tickets kick would a fourth down mom a.
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: Late timeout just before the statut we're.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: Good game offense, it's year penalty.
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: It's still fourth.
- 1:12:04Speaker 10: Down, I thought as the back Jets dropped the flag.
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: Now we see the flag drop to the turp of
- 1:12:09Speaker 10: the delay game. I thought Philadelphia was calling the timeouts
- 1:12:11Speaker 10: at two and so now the Patriots are looking at
- 1:12:14Speaker 10: a fourth down.
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: At seventeen. Stap his back.
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: Jones stands in slides right, moves up, throws it right
- 1:12:22Speaker 10: Henry there.
- 1:12:23Speaker 16: Make no, he can't make the catch.
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: Throw his hands at the thirty five and he likely
- 1:12:27Speaker 10: would have been tackled short of the line to gain.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: I'm sorry, it's still not good.
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: It's still not good. I mean, you're wor's the fuck
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: you got to get to the sticks or four seventeen
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: you're gonna get to the sticks.
- 1:12:41Speaker 10: This is the game right here, Philadelphia, twenty five the
- 1:12:43Speaker 10: Patriots twenty exactly two.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: Minutes to go.
- 1:12:47Speaker 10: This guy in the backfield of the left of hurts
- 1:12:49Speaker 10: one receiver left three to the right wive side of
- 1:12:52Speaker 10: the field.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: Jalen Hurt leans forward.
- 1:12:54Speaker 10: Stops the right foot, does the deep knee bet he
- 1:12:57Speaker 10: that snap of the line. Hurts again. Now he takes
- 1:13:01Speaker 10: the snap, he's looking to throw. A slugging across the
- 1:13:03Speaker 10: middle down dive into function by Gunzellas breaks the past
- 1:13:07Speaker 10: crow for Smith.
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: And the Patriots, with one more opportunity.
- 1:13:15Speaker 10: Dons the Jones format rush Max Stanzi In throws it
- 1:13:18Speaker 10: left for.
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: Foot on it pitch batl over in their sideline.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: What they say, he's in bounds?
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: Hey, perfect throwing on target. Hend On time to get
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: up and get a play, let's go get up and snapping.
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: Eagles are out of time out.
- 1:13:32Speaker 10: But remember reviews initiated from Tabooth, So I don't think
- 1:13:35Speaker 10: that left book got in bound.
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: And that's the second time in the field.
- 1:13:39Speaker 10: Of a complete at pask is under further reviews. The
- 1:13:43Speaker 10: second time today is that the young receiver, the rookie
- 1:13:46Speaker 10: from LSU, has been unable to get that second foot down.
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: The receiver did not get the second foot in bounds.
- 1:13:55Speaker 13: The pass is incomplete, it's a turnover on downs, it's
- 1:13:59Speaker 13: first down.
- 1:14:00Speaker 10: Philadelphia victory formation, Hurts takes the stats, drops to the
- 1:14:08Speaker 10: right knee, and the final twenty four seconds will elapse.
- 1:14:10Speaker 10: In this season opener, and the defending NFC champions survived
- 1:14:16Speaker 10: as the Patriots stumbled out of the game, fell behind.
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: Sixteen nothing, staged a late rally, gave.
- 1:14:24Speaker 10: Themselves various opportunities to overtake the Eagles.
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: In the second half, and again they come up short.
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: Twenty five.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Patriots, unfiltered. It is brought to you by the Massachusetts
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Office of Travel and Tourism. Great memories are made in Massachusetts,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: no matter how you choose to make them, indoors or outdoors.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: Scenic used their city vibes, solo or family style, whatever
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: moves you. Whatever the season plan your perfect Massachusetts getaway
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: at visit m A. All right, we're back. That was
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: the mashup. Who did the mashup this week? Matt Lapan
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: did the mashup? So Zoe had some interesting observations during
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the game.
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I saw a lot of things live. I
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: was impressed.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: That's the NFL quarterback.
- 1:15:19Speaker 8: You should see a lot of things things.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Eight five five Pats five hundred is the ace ticket
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: hotline web radio at Patriots dot com as the email address.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Rick and Dallas says, I watched the game on Sunday
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: and walked away feeling good. There they held on all
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: game with one of the best teams in the league.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I went to work yesterday and proudly defended my team
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: and how optimistic I felt as the season progresses. I
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: even came up with a scenario where the Patriots could
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: actually be in first place by week three. I excitedly
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: clicked on the Patriots app at eleven am my time,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: looking forward to another great episode of Patriots Unfiltered. Reality
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: is no fun. I get that everything is saying is accurate.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: I even get that the insights are probably correct, but
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: I'm going to keep living in my fantasy world. Everything
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: is fine. The defense looked great. The offense looked improved.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: This is going to be a good season. If I
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: keep saying it with my eyes shut, eventually it'll be
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: true good.
- 1:16:17Speaker 8: I think that that both things can be true. The
- 1:16:20Speaker 8: defense did look great. I thought the defense looked great.
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: The offense did look better. I just think it's back
- 1:16:25Speaker 8: to Paul's point of just consistency and just overall ceiling, like,
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: like is better? Can you do this for more than
- 1:16:35Speaker 8: just one quarter like offensively?
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: And that's to me what you know, I would pump
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: the brakes from the defense. The offense was disimprovement. I mean,
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: did it look better at times, Yeah, But I think
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: overall it was very similar to what we saw a
- 1:16:50Speaker 6: lot of times last year.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think I mean, for me, I
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: think you can tell that they are all kind of
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: more on the same page. Now, Like execution wasn't there?
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: You like it better? So and they throw a touchdown
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: pass when two guys are standing in the same spot.
- 1:17:02Speaker 6: Matt Patricia didn't call the play, I don't know, and
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: that's what happened. But that's like the two guys in
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: the same spot.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: I know, but that's just become like I feel like
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: that's a talk radio buzz thing of like two guys
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: are too close to each other, Like I don't know
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: what the route spacing is in front of you.
- 1:17:15Speaker 8: No, No, I agree with you to an extent that
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: the spacing thing does get overblown a little bit. They
- 1:17:21Speaker 8: actually ran the same exact playout to the other side
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: on Kendrick Bourne's touchdown later in the game and the
- 1:17:27Speaker 8: two receivers ended up in the same spot again. Yeah,
- 1:17:29Speaker 8: So I don't know if that's just the design of
- 1:17:33Speaker 8: the growing.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: Growing pains in a functional offense versus nobody has any
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: idea what they're doing and everyone's just kind of freelancing,
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: you know. Like that's where I see the difference. Like
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:17:43Speaker 8: They're oute running with the spacing and all of the
- 1:17:46Speaker 8: was significantly better than last year. Like I look at
- 1:17:50Speaker 8: the Kendrick Bourne's first touchdown, That entire play was the scheme,
- 1:17:58Speaker 8: the bunch formation, the way the routes were run, the
- 1:18:01Speaker 8: timing of it, like all of that was the spacing,
- 1:18:04Speaker 8: Like that was pretty like that was a lot better
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: than anything they've put on film last year.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Andy in Cleveland says Paul if I heard him right,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I don't think Belichick meant to imply they were six
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: minutes on the clock when he went for it. I
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: think he means he went for it because he didn't
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: realize at the time that the Eagles were going to
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: give us more chances with six minutes left. Unless he
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: literally meant what I'm saying. But Slyly said it weird,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: so some people might forget the situation and think he
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: meant your version.
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that people have tried to make that
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: argument that you just made. I do not think that
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: that's what he meant. I think he was trying to
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: sort of downplay it.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Becka and Walpole, I don't understand the negativity about the offense.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Two horrible mistakes in awful weather. They were dead, but
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: clawed back and had an opportunity to win if Bill
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: took a field goal. Last year, they lost a lot
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: of winnable games and were there at the end to
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: get into the playoffs. People seem to forget at the
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Vikings game, which was another winnable game. They did all
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: of this with a defensive coordinator calling the shots. They
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: have better offensive weapons, especially if they use the weapons
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: they just chose to ignore last year in a capable coordinator.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I think people are really counting them out when they
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: shouldn't be. I listened to both Jets and Bill's local
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: radio this morning, both saying it's a two horse race
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: in the East. Nobody is even considering the Patriots, which
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I think is a mistake. Defense is great too. I'm
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: ordering my key on white Jersey.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: Huh. There you go.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: It is a two horse race, but it's the Patriots
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: and the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: For the wants us to respond to that one. There's
- 1:19:43Speaker 8: the beginning part of the email. I don't remember exactly
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: what was said, but I just I don't know. I
- 1:19:52Speaker 8: guess I just don't share in the optimism because for some.
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: Reason, everybody is fixating on the two turnovers and they're
- 1:19:58Speaker 6: forgetting the numerous three and outs, right, Like, who do
- 1:20:04Speaker 6: you think played better offensively on Sunday? The Eagles are
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: the Patriots?
- 1:20:07Speaker 8: Eagles?
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: Who do you think play better offensively? Offensively?
- 1:20:12Speaker 8: I think the Patriots might have played better.
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: I think the Patriots played better too. Do you think
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: the Patriots played better than the Eagles. Who do you
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: think hunted more?
- 1:20:20Speaker 8: Probably the Patriots. Yeah, yeah, Well, it's also like the
- 1:20:24Speaker 8: last two drives have to matter too, right, like, and
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: the first five half to matter too.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: Like.
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: They had a great and I don't mean good. They
- 1:20:32Speaker 6: had a great stretch in the last half of the
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: second quarter where they went boom boom and it was
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: like wow, I think, except when they did nothing the
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: remainder of the game.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Well, if the offense played great, they would have won
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: the game. It obviously didn't play great, but I just
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: saw signs of improvement. I'm encouraged.
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: That's fine. That I think is a very balanced way
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: of looking at it. Yeah, this improved weapons. When the
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: guy you let go had nine for eighty one and
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: two touchdowns to get replaced by I think this might
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: be a good time to serve up Evan by Juju
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: Smith Schuster like.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: I also think this show is called Patriots Unfiltered, and
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: if you wanted fluff, it would be called Patriots Fluff filtered,
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: but it's not. It's unfiltered, and so therefore I think
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: that people are everyone's entitled to their own opinions.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: In this time of transition. With this franchise. We owe
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: it to fans to be honest what we honestly.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: Feel, and I would say that I honestly feel there
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: were a lot of things to be encouraged about offensively
- 1:21:29Speaker 6: on Sunday. I do I honestly feel that. However, don't
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: use last year and put the bar down there as
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: your barometer. Use the NFL as a barometer. Did they
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: play good offense for the NFL?
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Probably not, Kyle and Pembroke, Evan, the optimism comes from
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: our QB throwing three hundred yards and three touchdowns on
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: the rare day. On the rare day, our running game
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: was shut down. Can you say in good confidence that
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Stevenson will constantly be held to two yards to carry?
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Can you say in good confidence that you don't think
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: the offense will continue to improve under O'Brien as it
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: gets more time.
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: Can you say in confidence that mac Jones will only
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: turn it over once and throwing the ball fifty four
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: times and it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Continues to get healthier. I usually like your takes, but
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: this Debbie Downer stuff is rare for you.
- 1:22:18Speaker 8: I don't I don't even think. I don't even think
- 1:22:20Speaker 8: what Evan said was being.
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: Like we're wondering where the static was.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I got it.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: I think Evan's being real. I mean, this offense, if
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: it keeps going down this road, could end up being
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: really predictable by week six. So I think that Evan
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: is just you know, prepared everyone for what could potentially come.
- 1:22:37Speaker 8: I just I you can take your your three hundred
- 1:22:41Speaker 8: yards and do you know what with it? Because it
- 1:22:43Speaker 8: means nothing. It means nothing. How many points did they score?
- 1:22:49Speaker 8: What did they do when it mattered most? Those are
- 1:22:51Speaker 8: the two things that mattered to me. How he could
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: throw for five hundred yards and it wouldn't matter to
- 1:22:57Speaker 8: me if he had two chances to win the game
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: in the end failed both time.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: What do you think the zeitgeist? Because I know you
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: like to listen to the zeitgeist. Thanks the New England
- 1:23:07Speaker 6: zeitgeist thinks.
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Of tour overrated?
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:23:10Speaker 8: He threw for four.
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: Hundred and sixty six yards and three touchdowns. I know,
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: so you think he stinks. When I say you, I
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: don't mean Fred, I mean the zeitgeist. They think two
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: of stinks. He threw for four to sixty six and
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: lady last minute touchdown drive to win a game with
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: thirty six points and you think he stinks. But I'm
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: supposed to just stop everything because Mac threw for three
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: hundred yards and scored twenty points and lost Bennett Brooklyn
- 1:23:35Speaker 6: right trying to die.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: I was at the Zinci game, and some folks are
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: comparing Sunday's loss to that, in that the Patriots were
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: right there but couldn't get the job done. I see
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: it differently. If you made a list of all the
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: issues we've had in recent years, can't stop mobile quarterback,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: can't limit elite receivers, lack of sideline to sideline speed,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: no pass rush, complete lack of organization on offense, no
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: pass rush last year, born in the dodge house, no
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: tight end production, questions about the old line. It seems
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: like we've made progress in most of these areas. The
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: game also reminded me of some of those early Bledsoell games.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Far from perfect, but you could see the start of something.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: This is not the start.
- 1:24:13Speaker 8: So if you just replace Bloodsoee Mac with Tom Brady and.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: It's the start, it's a new start. I think think
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: after last year it's a new start.
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: Well, then you're gonna have to do it with a
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: whole new cast. Of characters because you're gonna lose a
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: lot of these pieces Fred right, I know, but.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: It's a new start in that, like it's a real offense.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: Henry Bourne KASICKI Trent Brown. When you you have a
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: chance to lose half your offense, like this is this
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: should be the where you want to be, not where
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: you're going.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Should be, but it isn't. So we have to show
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: with what we have, no I know.
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: So you try to make the best of it. But
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: like this whole like new beginning thing is not accurate.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: It's a new beginning.
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: They have like twenty something pending free agents.
- 1:24:59Speaker 8: Okay, but we're also in year three of Mac Jones
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: being the quarterback of the offense. And like the silver
- 1:25:06Speaker 8: linings in the in the oh, well they were close
- 1:25:09Speaker 8: or oh they you know, they did some things well,
- 1:25:11Speaker 8: like at some point those that has to I mean,
- 1:25:13Speaker 8: the victories are getting old.
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: I'm gonna pop over to the defense though, and I
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: feel really good about the defense. I feel like this
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: is a little bit of a new beginning. I think
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: with Christian Barmore kind of elevating playing early down snaps.
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: We all saw what key On White did, which was
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: just kind of an appetizer. I feel like for what
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: he's going to be able to do. You know, I
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: just think Christians also, those are these are the kind
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: of players that you need to build an elite defense.
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: And these are three rookies that all got in there
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: right out from the get go. So you know, you're
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: seeing the older defensive lineman, which I think skew some
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: of what we talk about with those guys are kind
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: of pulling back a little bit. Certainly Gotschaw still in
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: the middle of it, but you know, you're starting to
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: see key on White, You're starting to see more Julyani Tavai,
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: who I like as a player. So I I think,
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: I think, you know you don't like them.
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: I don't, but I can't do it. Is a promising guy.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: I definitely agree with that. I would absolutely and this
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: is my whole thing on the defense. This is what
- 1:26:07Speaker 6: I just wrote about two for this morning. This is
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: the part that I would agree with. All the optimism
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: with the fans is like people said, like someone I
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: think just wrote in and said it was similar to
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: the Cincinnati game, And I don't think this had anything
- 1:26:21Speaker 6: like the Cincinnati game except for the way it ended.
- 1:26:24Speaker 6: They got dominated for sixty minutes by the Bengals, and
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: the Bengals just kept handing them opportunities to do things
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: picks like the offense couldn't do a thing. It was
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: four hundred and twenty some odd yards of offense to
- 1:26:38Speaker 6: two hundred. It was twenty eight first down Like the
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: Bengals completely controlled the game, but they kept making mistakes
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: that allowed the Patriots tot That's not what happened on Sunday.
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: The Patriots controlled the Eagles offense for sixty minutes. That
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: to me is a huge difference. I haven't seen that.
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: I haven't seen that since Brady left.
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: It's a really good defense. I beat Lane Johnson twice
- 1:27:03Speaker 8: and that is the best right tackle in football. So
- 1:27:05Speaker 8: the fact that he was able to beat.
- 1:27:08Speaker 6: I think you could say he was you know what
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: what I what stood out to me?
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: It's just his athleticism.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: When he has the star, change direction and chase a guy.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: He can move for a big dude, and that jumps
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: out to me.
- 1:27:20Speaker 15: What he so?
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: I just what do they got planned for him? I
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: asked Mayo a little bit about him today, but I
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: I just think I don't want to say the sky's
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: the limit, But I think he could be a very
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: very good.
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: Time that player where he puts my lot on skates,
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: walks him right back into Hurts. Then Hurts breaks the
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: pocket and he just puts his foot in the ground
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: and chases him into the sideline. And I was like, whoa,
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: Like that's that's a freak like that. You can't do that.
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: With the tackling, The tackling was really really good, especially
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: for early season.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and Bill Bill mentioned that too, he was pleased
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: with the tackling.
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Pat Naguam says, I value and respect all of your opinions,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: but Evan, I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: this offense having to have everything perfect in order for
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: it to be effective. How about they just don't dig
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: themselves into a big hole that they can't get out of.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: Mac was right after the game.
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: How many times are you going to date? Not date?
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: Like that's the definition of perfect right.
- 1:28:13Speaker 8: Also, the thing is is that stuff happens in sports.
- 1:28:19Speaker 8: You make mistakes, you fall behind, you give up a
- 1:28:23Speaker 8: pick six, you go three and out for the first
- 1:28:25Speaker 8: like this. That's that's football. And if you have a
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: team that can only play from ahead when things are
- 1:28:32Speaker 8: going well for you, and the game script follows a
- 1:28:35Speaker 8: certain script, and that's the only way that you can win.
- 1:28:38Speaker 8: And that's problematic, Like you have to be able to
- 1:28:41Speaker 8: overcome mistakes, and I feel like we always just forget
- 1:28:44Speaker 8: that over twenty years, we think that everything was just
- 1:28:47Speaker 8: perfect all the time. They overcame mistakes. Brady would throw
- 1:28:50Speaker 8: picks and they would overcome it.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: Twenty to three. Are there other teams like this in
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: the NFL? Like we've been kind of watching the same script.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: We've been talking about for a couple of years now,
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: that the Patriots are a good team that beats the
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: bad teams. They play a good team and things don't
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: go right, they struggle. I'm I can't, off the top
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: of my head, really think of another NFL team that
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: kind of plays that way. Like I don't know, just
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: it's it seems like such a kind of unique thing
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: to them.
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: May average teams, I think there are a lot of them.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: I think there's a lot of average teams in the league.
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: That's probably the biggest chunk of.
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: Because they're just inconsistent and they play good in one
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: week and they don't play good the other week, and
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: you know, like it's like, because I think the Patriots
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: are a well coached team. I think that teams around
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: the league respect them. But you know, it's like you're
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: hearing all the Eagles say all this thing's like that's
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: a great defense, that's a great you know. I'm like, well,
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: why can't they beat the good teams? Then, you know,
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: like that's that's what the hang up is.
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I would look at the you know stuff,
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: the perfect like you know, the guy says, you know,
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: he takes issue with Evan saying that everything has to
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: be perfect, and then he says, you know, if they
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: didn't make the mistakes at the beginning, that's Evan's point
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: is everything needs to be perfect because if they make
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: a mistake or two, they can't overcome it. And I'm sorry,
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: Oh and twelve when you allowed twenty five or more
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: points is what it is. That's a fact. That's not
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: a lot of points in the NFL twenty five.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Let's get back to the phones. We'll go to Christian
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: and dare is this Chris with a T, I A N. Yes,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: it is, okay? What's up?
- 1:30:18Speaker 14: I was? Uh, I was, I was feeling pretty good
- 1:30:21Speaker 14: after Sunday and then I listened to the first ninety minutes.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Of the show.
- 1:30:23Speaker 5: I know so much.
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Now I brought the energy in the postgame show.
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: Yes it is.
- 1:30:33Speaker 14: I just I mean, I think Evan, you know, you're
- 1:30:36Speaker 14: talking about where's the optimism coming from, just because we're
- 1:30:39Speaker 14: so starved from what we saw last year on offense.
- 1:30:42Speaker 14: And Fred repeatedly came on the show and said, what
- 1:30:45Speaker 14: we're watching is not an NFL offense. And you look
- 1:30:48Speaker 14: at Billy Oh, and you know that that's the guy
- 1:30:50Speaker 14: that's done it. And this hope there, and I think
- 1:30:53Speaker 14: that's what we're all latching onto, is that the hope
- 1:30:55Speaker 14: of getting better. And I'm with you, I don't care
- 1:30:58Speaker 14: that max group of three hundred plus yards, Like you know,
- 1:31:01Speaker 14: the start of the game, you had those three drives.
- 1:31:03Speaker 14: I think they went three plays and they had three
- 1:31:05Speaker 14: drives in a row. They had three plays and they
- 1:31:07Speaker 14: barely got like eleven or twelve yards or something total.
- 1:31:11Speaker 14: So like that's frustrating positively for me. A lot of
- 1:31:14Speaker 14: the rookie plays, A lot of the rookies play, which
- 1:31:17Speaker 14: I loved. The offensive line. I don't think anybody saw
- 1:31:20Speaker 14: them going box to wire playing all eighty snaps so
- 1:31:24Speaker 14: like I come out of that feeling pretty good. That's
- 1:31:28Speaker 14: where and the defense obviously too, like like Paul said,
- 1:31:30Speaker 14: the defense hasn't made those types of stops when they
- 1:31:34Speaker 14: needed to in years, really going all the way back
- 1:31:37Speaker 14: probably to like this, the last super.
- 1:31:38Speaker 16: Bowl they won.
- 1:31:40Speaker 14: So I think this room for improvement. And I feel
- 1:31:43Speaker 14: a little bit better than I did, not necessarily the
- 1:31:46Speaker 14: seven to eight win, but maybe close to the nine
- 1:31:49Speaker 14: or ten, if you know, they just start to gell
- 1:31:52Speaker 14: And that's that's where I'm coming from on it. And Fred,
- 1:31:55Speaker 14: can I say something about the halftime ceremony?
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:32:00Speaker 14: I wept like a baby when he said a Patriot
- 1:32:02Speaker 14: for life. I'm not going to lie. Who was Niagara
- 1:32:04Speaker 14: Falls with a seminar hold.
- 1:32:06Speaker 10: I loved it.
- 1:32:07Speaker 14: I was hoping though, that there was going to be
- 1:32:09Speaker 14: more of an announcement of like whether it was a
- 1:32:12Speaker 14: Jersey retirement or like that they were going to have
- 1:32:14Speaker 14: like an announcement that they're going to put like the
- 1:32:16Speaker 14: statue of like the size of the Statue of Liberty
- 1:32:19Speaker 14: out in front of.
- 1:32:19Speaker 15: The lighthouse or something.
- 1:32:20Speaker 14: I hope for a little bit more like that. And
- 1:32:22Speaker 14: I know you only at thirteen minutes, like you said,
- 1:32:24Speaker 14: you got to get the stage off and on the
- 1:32:25Speaker 14: field all that stuff post game. But I kind of
- 1:32:28Speaker 14: was just hoping for a little more. And I know
- 1:32:29Speaker 14: there's going to be the ceremony on the twelfth of June,
- 1:32:32Speaker 14: but I was kind of hoping for a little bit more.
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: I just don't think they know, like beyond having this
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: event on the twelve, I don't think they know what
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: and putting him into the Hall of Fame. They don't
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: know what they want to do, whether it's a statue
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: or you know, all that stuff. They don't want to
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: retire his number because I know they want to get
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: rid of those There's too many people with retired numbers
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: that shouldn't have their numbers retired on this team, so
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: that whole tradition. I think they want to get rid
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: of that instead of extending it. But in terms of
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: what they want to do, that's I don't think they
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: know yet.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: We're gonna have a brainstorm about that.
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: We might yeah we should, thought, yeah we should.
- 1:33:14Speaker 8: I appreciated Christian laying out where the optimism comes from,
- 1:33:19Speaker 8: because I think some people just say, well I'm optimistic,
- 1:33:21Speaker 8: and it's like why.
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: And that's fine, Like and That's how I was in
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: the post game show. Right to be fair, I mean,
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: I thought there was more to be optimistic about Sunday
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: than the other.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: I went into this game and I didn't think that
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: I was going to see Mac throw for three touchdowns.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: But why, like you've never seen that?
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Because because I didn't think they'd be ready for that yet.
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: I didn't think the offense would come out and be
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: able to.
- 1:33:48Speaker 10: Do that yet.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: I feel especially.
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: Like, but I just like the bar is so incredibly low.
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: You didn't expect them to be able to score three touchdowns.
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: I don't understand that they score so they had to
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: be throws. You to be encouraged, Yeah, I think like
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: it wouldn't be encouraging if ro mondra Stevenson at three
- 1:34:04Speaker 6: one yard touchdown runs.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: No, but this season, this season, I don't get it.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: This season is predicated on the play of Matt Jones offensively.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: The fact that he comes out in the first game
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: and throws for three touchdowns to me, is encouraging.
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: It's it's encouraged to be more encouraging if they if
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: they scored thirty five points and he threw fifteen Okay,
- 1:34:23Speaker 6: that's all I'm.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: Saying I didn't expect that either.
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: Again, this is a new start for this offense in
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: my opinion, Okay, I just don't see it that way.
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: It's I think it'd be encouraging if Mac was a rookie,
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: but he's not, and it's year three, and like, we
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: really need to see.
- 1:34:37Speaker 8: Improvement at this point.
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: But was last night a last year and patting the
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: Patriots on the back for having an offensive coordinator, having
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: an offensive coordinator and running an actual offense or an offense?
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: So last year when I went nine for three to
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: eighty two and three touchdowns, that was a last year
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: because a defensive coordinator was calling the plays.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: Oh but it wasn't.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: I don't think it was a last year. I think
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: that he didn't play that well. I don't give him
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: the out that everybody else does. That's different. That's why
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: my bar is not down on the floor, so like
- 1:35:09Speaker 6: everybody else's is.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: So you're not blaming Matt Patricia.
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: Well I blame Matt Patricia. Sure this we can't have
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: more than one guy at faulton.
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: No.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: I sure he didn't play well, but it was a
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: lost year in terms of his development.
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: Right, And according to a lot of people that would
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: be the consensus opinion. Do you not mine?
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: No, you think he should have gotten better.
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: I think you should have. I think he should have
- 1:35:30Speaker 6: played better than he did. Yes, And I think he
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: showed that in the second half of the year compared
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: to the first half of the year, when he did
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: play better than he did. He did improve down the stretch.
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: And I know no one wants to hear that because
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: that's not fitting with the narrative. But if you look
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: at the second half of the year, his numbers were
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: light years better than they were in the first half.
- 1:35:50Speaker 8: I think that you can improve individually without the results
- 1:35:55Speaker 8: actually being better. And what I wanted to see was
- 1:35:59Speaker 8: Mac take last year as that learning experience of what
- 1:36:02Speaker 8: did go wrong and what did go right and what
- 1:36:04Speaker 8: he does need to work on, and then just do
- 1:36:06Speaker 8: it now in a much better offense. Like I'll give
- 1:36:08Speaker 8: them on Sunday that the film is so much cleaner
- 1:36:12Speaker 8: than it was last year in terms of just the
- 1:36:15Speaker 8: overall operation of the offense, the route running, the spacing,
- 1:36:18Speaker 8: the timing, like all the little intricate details that I
- 1:36:21Speaker 8: nerd out about, Like all that stuff was so much
- 1:36:23Speaker 8: better than last year. You can just tell that when
- 1:36:27Speaker 8: they say to break this route off at twelve yards,
- 1:36:30Speaker 8: they don't let guys get away with breaking it off
- 1:36:33Speaker 8: at ten anymore. Like we said twelve, So break it
- 1:36:36Speaker 8: off at twelve. And that's happening again, which is positive.
- 1:36:39Speaker 8: But I just think it comes back to at the
- 1:36:41Speaker 8: end of the day, do they have enough talent, Like,
- 1:36:44Speaker 8: do they have the talent to do more than just
- 1:36:48Speaker 8: run the scheme and make it look like a presentable
- 1:36:51Speaker 8: NFL offense? Like to Paul's point, that's that's on the
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: floor that bar up.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: It may not, they may not, but I'm just talking
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: about Mac. Right. I didn't think I come into this game,
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: I thought the offense would struggle, you know, and it
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: did in the first half, but it.
- 1:37:08Speaker 6: Got better in the second half, you know, and he
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: scored six points in the second half.
- 1:37:12Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: I just I just thought that Mac.
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: I'm just giving you the fact.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I just thought Mac looked better.
- 1:37:18Speaker 6: I mean, it took over twice at the other team's
- 1:37:20Speaker 6: forty yard line with the game on the line and
- 1:37:21Speaker 6: couldn't score.
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: It proved as the game went on, but they were
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: in a tough position. They put themselves in a tough position,
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: and they were always chasing.
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: And so my point is if we just keep saying
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: he got better as the game went on and ignored
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: the fact that his best play was in the second quarter,
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: then what are we doing.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Well, it's week one.
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: I didn't say he played badly. I said on Sunday
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: when we talked about in the postgame show, Mac was
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: the least of your problems in this game. You didn't
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: lose this game because of Mac Jones, but you also
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: didn't win it because of Mac Jones. And he didn't
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: do what he needed to do. And to say that
- 1:37:55Speaker 6: he got better as the game went on is not accurate.
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: They scored six points in the second half, despite taking
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: over and plus territory twice. They scored six points.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: Yeah, so, and that was because of his play.
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: I didn't say it was because of his play. I'm
- 1:38:09Speaker 6: talking about the offense context. Okay, Well, on fourth down
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: he couldn't complete passes. That's the context. So if you
- 1:38:15Speaker 6: want to put that on Mac Jones, put it on
- 1:38:17Speaker 6: Mac Jones. The ball was right there, and people's not
- 1:38:19Speaker 6: on fourth and three, it wasn't.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: I'm talking about the long fourth down that was born
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: down the middle.
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: That was third down.
- 1:38:25Speaker 8: Okay, but you know that was a good throw.
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: It was that it was a good throw to Booty.
- 1:38:30Speaker 8: He made three really good throws, you know, like.
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: Sometimes you're who who whoa who WHOA? Have him repeat
- 1:38:37Speaker 6: that what.
- 1:38:38Speaker 8: He made three really good throws in the game, and
- 1:38:39Speaker 8: that's one of them.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Yeah, only three good throws.
- 1:38:42Speaker 8: Yeah, made three good throws.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Okay, the quote including the touchdowns.
- 1:38:47Speaker 8: The touchdown of Kendrick Bourne was a good throw. The
- 1:38:49Speaker 8: touchdown to Hunter Henry was a good throw. And throw
- 1:38:51Speaker 8: you just mentioned was throw. No other good throws, all
- 1:38:54Speaker 8: other throws, all the other throws were throws at every
- 1:38:57Speaker 8: quarterback in the league and make it. Okay it terms
- 1:39:00Speaker 8: of like those I'm not taking it that far, those
- 1:39:03Speaker 8: those high level like wow, big PFF calls them big
- 1:39:07Speaker 8: time throws, whatever you want to call him. PFF gave
- 1:39:10Speaker 8: him four he gave They gave him the to Mario
- 1:39:12Speaker 8: Douglas corner route too. They like that was BTT big
- 1:39:15Speaker 8: time throw. So he had four big time throws in
- 1:39:18Speaker 8: this game. But not just my migrating by their grading
- 1:39:22Speaker 8: as well, that means all the other completions that he
- 1:39:24Speaker 8: had in this game. They feel like every starting quarterback
- 1:39:28Speaker 8: in the league makes So I'm just telling you he
- 1:39:31Speaker 8: made them. Yeah, that's what I'm not holding it against.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: So now we're now style points. Now, now we're now
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: we're you know, giving him no lower marks because they
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: weren't big time throw.
- 1:39:40Speaker 6: I'm not giving him lower marks because I'm giving the
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: lower MUCKs because they didn't score points. Yeah, I'm really
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: I'm really tricky with that. If they scored a lot
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: of points, I usually give the offense credit and that's fine.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: But listen again, I I think that there's enough to
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: build on here.
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: I would agree, So I would agree, But I don't
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: think that they showed this t mendous improvement. They were better.
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: Okay, again putting words in my mouth. Did I ever
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: say tremendous improvement?
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: I think you did?
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: No, I didn't, Okay, I never did. Well, what you
- 1:40:11Speaker 6: phrase it the way you want to phrase it.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: I said I was encouraged. I think there's things to
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: build on it.
- 1:40:15Speaker 6: You also said he got better as the game went on.
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: Yeah I didn't.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: I do I think he got more confidence? I think, yeah,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: I absolutely do. I think that he's got to have help.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: You know, Booty's gonna make that catch. What's going to
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: make that catch? You know you can't. You know our
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: quarterback can't throw it and catch it all by him?
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: Does Hunter Henry have to make that catch on fourth
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: and eight? Those are the kind of things you need, exactly.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: It's a great catch when you don't have the guy.
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: Those are the kinds of things you need, you need
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: sometimes you're going to get them. On once, Hunter Henry
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: did it on down.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: The greatest quarterback in the ever needed that once in
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: a while too.
- 1:40:50Speaker 8: Yeah, but they would think they need it to win games.
- 1:40:52Speaker 8: You would think that they're gonna lose if they don't
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: get those plays. And Hunter Henry made one of them
- 1:40:56Speaker 8: and extended a drive. And then when they had the
- 1:40:58Speaker 8: next fourth down and they needed that, he could think.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: Even I think even Tom Brady had some help once
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: in a while from his from his receivers.
- 1:41:06Speaker 8: Very very similar guys, but they have very similar similar
- 1:41:10Speaker 8: The head coach here seems to ignore the fact that
- 1:41:13Speaker 8: that Rob Gronkowski used to play for this football team
- 1:41:16Speaker 8: like that, that's that to me is like I treat
- 1:41:20Speaker 8: I try to treat it as two different things, like
- 1:41:21Speaker 8: that's like an offseason topic to me, of like the
- 1:41:23Speaker 8: team building and that sort of aspect where I'm as
- 1:41:26Speaker 8: for this game. I'm just like grating the film of
- 1:41:27Speaker 8: this particular game. But you can make that argument that
- 1:41:32Speaker 8: I and I would make it with you, Like the
- 1:41:34Speaker 8: fact of the matter is that they didn't do enough
- 1:41:36Speaker 8: to put enough talent around him. Now, is that because
- 1:41:38Speaker 8: Max is not good enough to elevate the talent? Probably,
- 1:41:41Speaker 8: but that you still have to you have to call
- 1:41:43Speaker 8: a spade a spade. And if you think that mac
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: Jones is gonna make Hunter Henry and Kendrick Bourne and
- 1:41:49Speaker 8: Kaishawan Boody and all these guys that they have out
- 1:41:51Speaker 8: there elevate them to this level, then you're lying to yourself. No,
- 1:41:57Speaker 8: I know, I'm just saying that that's how they built
- 1:41:58Speaker 8: the roster. They the roster thinking that the quarterback was
- 1:42:02Speaker 8: going to be able to do enough with the weapons
- 1:42:03Speaker 8: that they put around him. And the weapons aren't good
- 1:42:06Speaker 8: enough for this quarterback. I think for some quarterbacks they
- 1:42:10Speaker 8: might be, but for this quarterback in particular, it's not
- 1:42:14Speaker 8: be nice.
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: If half of them were playing, you know, well maybe
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: no one could talk about Juju.
- 1:42:19Speaker 6: Half we can didn't play.
- 1:42:21Speaker 8: It's not gonna be People are getting on me for
- 1:42:23Speaker 8: being negative. It's not going to be positive.
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: And I think like part of this part of this
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: fread was like last week we were all saying, like
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: we have hope.
- 1:42:29Speaker 8: We you know that if you can't be positive right now.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: When can you a round pick?
- 1:42:34Speaker 10: Oh?
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: Fred, come on, well, he hasn't played. He's supposed to
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: be the guy.
- 1:42:38Speaker 6: This is the guy that people wanted to cut because
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: they like to Mario Douglas. Now you missed him on side.
- 1:42:43Speaker 8: The bottom line, in fact.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Is he had a second round pick. Who who's not
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: playing to.
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: Mario dollars Ago.
- 1:42:47Speaker 8: How many snaps can you give to Mario Douglas Because
- 1:42:50Speaker 8: there is not a number that is too many. He
- 1:42:53Speaker 8: needs to be on the field for I think those
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: I think they will seventy five plus. I think they
- 1:42:59Speaker 8: have to be because he's Douglas and Born are the
- 1:43:04Speaker 8: two guys that are dynamic. They're the two guys that
- 1:43:07Speaker 8: run dynamic routes, that are good with the ball in
- 1:43:09Speaker 8: their hands. You know, they're though, two guys that are
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: quote unquote explosive in your offense. The guy that you
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: signed from Kansas City and free agency does not qualify.
- 1:43:21Speaker 8: So if by the end of the year, Douglas is
- 1:43:25Speaker 8: ready to take on more and more and more as
- 1:43:27Speaker 8: the year progresses. I would play with Pop Douglas over
- 1:43:30Speaker 8: Juju right now, So I would.
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: We can move on from one of our typical Paul
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: Fred semantic arguments and go to what to make of
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: Juju's lack of usage? You know, once that fourth bound
- 1:43:42Speaker 6: play happened, the fourth and three with ten minutes to go,
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: not six. From that point on, he didn't play a
- 1:43:48Speaker 6: whole lot. What do you make What do you guys
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: make of that?
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: It's a good question.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: I haven't I mean, look we said coming in, I
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: haven't been impressed with him just I mean, he didn't
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: really practice at all, right in ot As. We never
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: saw him in ot As. We finally got to see
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: him in training camp. Never really looked explosive, kind of
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: reserve judgment because felt like he's a tackle breaker, he's
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: a guy real football, he'll show up. I was discovered.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Doesn't it start with the reports about his knee?
- 1:44:15Speaker 3: I mean, and that's what that's what I wonder. I
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: wonder is he injured or is he washed?
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: He certainly looks to me like he's he's injured, like
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: but you know, he doesn't run well, get better later
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: on in the season, injured or this is what.
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: Are they monitoring him?
- 1:44:32Speaker 11: You know?
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: But if they're monitoring him, then I would think that
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: you'd save him for the end, you know, Like it
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: seems the opposite, Like they couldn't use him at the.
- 1:44:39Speaker 8: End if he if he was like if his route
- 1:44:44Speaker 8: running was good and his hands were good, the fact
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: that he doesn't have the burst that he used to
- 1:44:50Speaker 8: have wouldn't be that concerning. But the the part that
- 1:44:54Speaker 8: was most concerning to me in this game was I
- 1:44:58Speaker 8: don't think he was really running the right route all
- 1:45:00Speaker 8: the time. And so on the fourth down play, a
- 1:45:03Speaker 8: third down play at the beginning of the game where
- 1:45:05Speaker 8: he the ball went through his hands. Everybody and myself
- 1:45:09Speaker 8: included to watch that play and was like, you know,
- 1:45:11Speaker 8: Mac short armed it right, Like there wasn't enough velocity
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: on the ball.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: He did a little, but it's still was catchable.
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: It was the wrong route. Yeah, I think I don't
- 1:45:19Speaker 8: know that for a fact. It's just a theory. But
- 1:45:21Speaker 8: when you watch the play, the corner is sitting outside
- 1:45:24Speaker 8: of Juju, and I think Mac is expecting him to
- 1:45:27Speaker 8: return back into the middle of the field and cut
- 1:45:30Speaker 8: back inside when he makes that cut, and Juju can
- 1:45:33Speaker 8: continue to cut outside. And you look at the reason.
- 1:45:37Speaker 8: I think it was partial because he dropped it, but
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: also because Bill O'Brien on the sideline after the play
- 1:45:43Speaker 8: looks disgusted, like throws his hands like this and just
- 1:45:47Speaker 8: made him play and and just walks away.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: And that could be. That could be why it could
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: be more less the knee and more he's not on
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: the same.
- 1:45:55Speaker 8: Page, right, And then on the fourth and three play, okay,
- 1:45:57Speaker 8: so different play, Okay, that was this was early a
- 1:46:00Speaker 8: third down early in the game. That with the ball, Yeah,
- 1:46:04Speaker 8: fourth down play late in the game. They put him
- 1:46:07Speaker 8: in the weak spot in their empty formation, which is
- 1:46:10Speaker 8: it might not have been empty, but they put him
- 1:46:12Speaker 8: in their week spot, which is the playmaker spot. That's
- 1:46:15Speaker 8: that's the spot. We're gonna get you a matchup. You're
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: gonna go one on one against somebody, and we're gonna
- 1:46:19Speaker 8: expect you to win the route. And Juju was in
- 1:46:21Speaker 8: that spot and he ran a lazy route. You just
- 1:46:25Speaker 8: didn't make a move off the line of scrimmage, didn't
- 1:46:27Speaker 8: really do anything to get open, and Mac had to
- 1:46:30Speaker 8: hold the ball. And that's when the play broke down
- 1:46:32Speaker 8: and we have the whole thing. I really was concerned
- 1:46:35Speaker 8: about this film for Juju. I mean, he caught a
- 1:46:37Speaker 8: pass it in the flat and he had one on
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: one with some space and just got tackles like that.
- 1:46:43Speaker 8: You know, he tried to make a move and just
- 1:46:44Speaker 8: couldn't go around the guy. I'm not ready to write
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: it off because it's one game, but this was concern.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: I gotta, I mean, I gotta not give Paul a
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: little not because I felt like, you know, when they
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: traded him, when they're not traded him, when they got
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: him and let Meers walk, you know, initially it felt like,
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: all right, he's got a little bit, a little bit
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: more juice than my It's like, how can you swap
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: somebody from Myers and somehow you got slower? Like I
- 1:47:10Speaker 3: don't know, I really don't know if this is like
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: salvageable with him, if he's going to get better and
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: it'll start to come on, but like mental mistakes, health issues,
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: I was just looking and listen, Evan's right, it's one game,
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: so I'm not taking any victory lat But what I
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: my feeling was they had virtually the identical stats. I
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: think I want to say it was twelve point three
- 1:47:31Speaker 6: per catch. They both a twelve yards per catch, and
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: somehow Jujus were considered to be far more impressive because
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: he averaged more after the catch, which is great if
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: they're both averaging twelve yards per air and then Myers
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: is going down and Juju's getting ten more yards. But
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: if they're averaging the same amount every time they catch
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: the pass, why does anybody care if you're just catching
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: it and getting tackled, or catching it three yards from
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: the line of scrimmage and running nine yards, if it's
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: resulting in a twelve yard game on average. I didn't
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: know thought it was that.
- 1:48:04Speaker 8: Bill O'Brien is a yak coordinator, right, Like he's the
- 1:48:07Speaker 8: guy that sets up the yak and they you thought
- 1:48:10Speaker 8: that he was going to be like a catch and
- 1:48:12Speaker 8: run player. But I'll say this for Jacoby, who I
- 1:48:15Speaker 8: was in favor of signing Juju over Jacoby, I was
- 1:48:18Speaker 8: that fourth and three, Jacoby gets open. Yep, Jacoby gets open,
- 1:48:22Speaker 8: like because it's not they're not asking him to create
- 1:48:25Speaker 8: this like sixty yard explosive play down the field. They're
- 1:48:28Speaker 8: asking him to.
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: Get four yards. Yeah, and Jacoby makes a move and
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: gets open. And in terms of that kind of player, I,
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: you know, since the second year in the league, I've
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: never you know, and that's when he got the really
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: bad knee injury. After that year he had like one
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: hundred and some odd catches for like fourteen hundred yards.
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: He hasn't been that kind of an explosive guy since
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: he came back from that knee injury. And that's not
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: just like two years ago. We're going back five years now.
- 1:48:52Speaker 6: In that offense last year in Kansas City, with Mahomes
- 1:48:56Speaker 6: twelve yards to catch is what it was, he had
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: a lot more space to work with. And I just
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: feel like he's not an explosive player anymore. And I
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: didn't think he was an explosive player last year where
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: I saw it.
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: I'm not trying to tell you that I think Myers is.
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: I don't think he is either. But again, I am
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: not necessarily more impressed by a guy who catches screens
- 1:49:18Speaker 6: and runs twelve yards as opposed to a guy who
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: catches a pass that goes twelve yards.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: All right, let's quickly hit on these phone calls before
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: the end of the show. David's in New York. What's up, David? Hey, guys, good,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Thanks for holding on. All right, So I got a.
- 1:49:35Speaker 17: Couple bones to pick here, respectfully, with having and Paul.
- 1:49:37Speaker 17: Who should I go for first?
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: You can lump him in together.
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: Yeah, you can go to me.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: We're pretty negative, pod go ahead.
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: I think Evansky more pessimistic than I am.
- 1:49:49Speaker 8: Probably I grew up with Brady.
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: Since you were.
- 1:49:53Speaker 17: Since you're keeping receipts here today for arguments, I have
- 1:49:57Speaker 17: to bring up something that you said in the postgame show. Okay,
- 1:50:01Speaker 17: on Sunday, you had a response to people saying that
- 1:50:05Speaker 17: they've seen this movie play out in regards to the
- 1:50:08Speaker 17: final drive, you know, the Mountain, the comeback, not being
- 1:50:10Speaker 17: able to complete it after being down yep, multiple score.
- 1:50:13Speaker 17: I do remember saying that you said you haven't seen
- 1:50:15Speaker 17: that played out.
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: Not like not like it did on Sunday, was my point. Yes,
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: I did say that. I remember.
- 1:50:21Speaker 17: I don't know though, I disagree a little bit because
- 1:50:23Speaker 17: it was kind of like the Dallas game, kind of
- 1:50:26Speaker 17: like not the same as the Cincinnati game, kind of
- 1:50:28Speaker 17: like the Raiders game, kind of like the Tampa Bay game.
- 1:50:31Speaker 17: It all seemed like the same sort of ending to me.
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: Yeah, you're unquestionably right. You're unquestionably right. In terms of
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: the way the game ended. Dallas had about five hundred
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: and fifty yards of offense, turned the ball over one
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: hundred and ten times, three of them in the end zone.
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: They should have won the game by about four touchdowns.
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: Tampa is a different story because it was a torrential rainstorm. Yeah,
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: I guess you could say it was kind of similar
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: to this, but I don't think the rain had much
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: of an impact on this game on Sunday. I think
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: it did have some impact on the Tampa game, Cincinnati
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: and some of these other games. I didn't feel like
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: the defense played very well. I thought they would flat
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: out terrible in that Dallas game from a couple of
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: years ago. I thought the defense was really really bad
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: that day. I felt like the defense was excellent on Sunday.
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: And that's the part that I you're right. At the
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: end of the game, it was very similar Patriots trying
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: to get over the hump, falling short, you know, kicking
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: ourselves at the end with all the mistakes that we made.
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: I get it, that's that's fair. Tampa would be closer.
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: Tampa would be closer.
- 1:51:34Speaker 17: Yeah, real quick. For for Evan, I have to say
- 1:51:38Speaker 17: I didn't I didn't expect this show from you, Evan
- 1:51:40Speaker 17: today because us an explosiveness in big time throws is
- 1:51:43Speaker 17: your main argument for why we should not be.
- 1:51:49Speaker 8: An hour and a half into the show.
- 1:51:51Speaker 17: So the the other thing that I heard you say
- 1:51:55Speaker 17: that you keep bringing up is you know you'll you'll
- 1:51:58Speaker 17: mention a couple of throws that Mac missed or or
- 1:52:00Speaker 17: you know you could have thrown better. It'll be like Alan,
- 1:52:03Speaker 17: Josh Allen would have made that throw er, Josh Allen
- 1:52:05Speaker 17: would have made this throw that back. Then it's it's
- 1:52:07Speaker 17: kind of contradictory to what kind of quarterback you specifically
- 1:52:11Speaker 17: have been preaching that we should have, which is a
- 1:52:13Speaker 17: guy who doesn't make mistakes, you know, doesn't turn the
- 1:52:15Speaker 17: ball over, and is safe with the football. When we
- 1:52:18Speaker 17: just saw proof of what Josh Allen is last night.
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: Oh, that's proof of what he is, what he can be.
- 1:52:27Speaker 8: I mentioned Josh Allen once on the fourth down play
- 1:52:30Speaker 8: because I thought that Josh Allen or take any justin
- 1:52:33Speaker 8: Herbert Josh Allen Patrick, like, take any quarterback that you
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: want that can move a little bit and throw on
- 1:52:38Speaker 8: the move and make those second reaction plays. I thought
- 1:52:41Speaker 8: that they would have hit Kendrick Bourne on that play.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: That that's it.
- 1:52:44Speaker 8: That's that's all I was saying. But in terms of
- 1:52:48Speaker 8: the like big time throws and stuff like that, like
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: we were just talking about that, you know, the good
- 1:52:53Speaker 8: throws that he made, that's not my main argument. My
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: main argument for Mac is again that I feel like
- 1:52:59Speaker 8: he has to be so so buttoned up on all
- 1:53:03Speaker 8: the details of his game to maximize the physical stuff
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: that he doesn't have. And in order to do that,
- 1:53:10Speaker 8: you are towing a really really thin line where like
- 1:53:13Speaker 8: you have to be perfect.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: And you're saying it would you're saying it'd be nice
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: once in a while to have those big plays.
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: It would also just be It's also just really really
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: hard to be as sharp as that is he needs
- 1:53:25Speaker 8: to be all the time. And that's why this offense
- 1:53:28Speaker 8: to me feels like it's such a roller coaster every
- 1:53:31Speaker 8: game is because in order to be as perfect and
- 1:53:36Speaker 8: every like pinpoint detail that he needs to be perfect
- 1:53:39Speaker 8: in for sixty seventy plays a game like good Luck, Like,
- 1:53:43Speaker 8: that's a really hard thing to do. I think only
- 1:53:45Speaker 8: a couple quarterbacks have really done that and they happen
- 1:53:48Speaker 8: to have one for twenty years.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, Dave. Let's go to Chad in La.
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: What's up, Chad?
- 1:53:55Speaker 10: Hey?
- 1:53:55Speaker 11: How are you guys?
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: Hitch? I?
- 1:53:57Speaker 16: Hey, hey, I'm one hundred percent on board with Evan.
- 1:54:01Speaker 17: I think we are a five hundred team.
- 1:54:06Speaker 16: I think we're not going to get past thirty points
- 1:54:08Speaker 16: unless we get a defensive score. And I go back
- 1:54:11Speaker 16: to the clutch conversation you guys had earlier. What's mac
- 1:54:15Speaker 16: Jones's identity? When he was drafted, we were sold on
- 1:54:21Speaker 16: intelligence and mobility. How has he shown that so far?
- 1:54:26Speaker 6: I don't think mobility is I think accuracy, intelligence and accuracy.
- 1:54:30Speaker 6: I think he has shown that. I think he doesn't
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: make a lot of really egregiously bad decisions.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: No, and when it's when he can have some time exaccurate,
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: I think he.
- 1:54:39Speaker 8: Made He's a great decision maker.
- 1:54:40Speaker 5: Like that.
- 1:54:41Speaker 8: I think this film has really not a whole lot
- 1:54:44Speaker 8: of like head scratching, like what was where is he
- 1:54:46Speaker 8: going with the ball? Like the intent of the throws
- 1:54:48Speaker 8: that he made were really good. I just don't always
- 1:54:50Speaker 8: think the throws are really good, Like I think that
- 1:54:53Speaker 8: sometimes the ball dies on him, especially going into the
- 1:54:56Speaker 8: sideline and.
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: That at least a real hard time outside the number,
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: unless it's down the field that you know, where it.
- 1:55:02Speaker 8: Leads to some incompletions or tougher catches or like, you know,
- 1:55:06Speaker 8: you keep this guy on his feet instead of making
- 1:55:09Speaker 8: him go down to catch the ball. Maybe there's yards
- 1:55:11Speaker 8: after the catch available, like stuff like that.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Todd's in North Carolina. What's up, Todd?
- 1:55:18Speaker 15: Hey, guys, I'm kind of among the same thing. It's right,
- 1:55:22Speaker 15: I'm pretty I got, you know, a warm, fuzzy feeling
- 1:55:25Speaker 15: by seeing Mac not die in the pocket and actually
- 1:55:28Speaker 15: make some throws. But my feeling is that this team
- 1:55:32Speaker 15: is the way that the team is being built by
- 1:55:35Speaker 15: Bill is he doesn't believe that it's important for the
- 1:55:39Speaker 15: players to elevate each other. He believes that the coaching
- 1:55:41Speaker 15: is what's supposed to be doing that. And I think
- 1:55:44Speaker 15: that's why Brady got so frustrated when his last year's here,
- 1:55:46Speaker 15: is that Bill just does things his way, and he
- 1:55:49Speaker 15: hasn't adapted, and he hasn't involved.
- 1:55:51Speaker 11: In the game.
- 1:55:51Speaker 15: He doesn't realize you need playmakers to try to bring
- 1:55:54Speaker 15: up your entire team. And he's always been saying, hey,
- 1:55:58Speaker 15: you know, I got my middle class. Like at my
- 1:56:00Speaker 15: middle class, I'm good to going and on offense especially
- 1:56:03Speaker 15: it doesn't work. And I'm just curious as to what
- 1:56:06Speaker 15: you guys think, is he going to be able to,
- 1:56:08Speaker 15: you know, get over the hump? And I don't know
- 1:56:11Speaker 15: if he'll do it with Mac or if you need
- 1:56:12Speaker 15: somebody else there, but you know, he just he seems
- 1:56:15Speaker 15: to think that he can the coaches can make something
- 1:56:18Speaker 15: happen with whatever they got, and I just feel that
- 1:56:20Speaker 15: that's that is a big, big drawback for his style
- 1:56:24Speaker 15: and the team in general. Thank you.
- 1:56:27Speaker 8: We went into this season like and I think so
- 1:56:29Speaker 8: much of what our conversations were about or exactly what
- 1:56:32Speaker 8: played out on Sunday, and I think that that's where
- 1:56:34Speaker 8: my I am so frustrated about it is because we said, yeah,
- 1:56:38Speaker 8: it'll look better and they'll score more points or they'll
- 1:56:41Speaker 8: be more efficient offensively. But when it's third in whatever
- 1:56:45Speaker 8: and they need a play, do they have a quarterback
- 1:56:49Speaker 8: and do they have receivers that can go out and
- 1:56:51Speaker 8: make a play and they it played out exactly like that.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: Let's see. Cody writes in last year was absolutely a
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: last year was a fireable offense by any other person
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: in the league not named Bill Belichick, if they would
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: have made that decision to let Patricia run an offense
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: a last year plus, no talent on offense is going
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: to make it impossible to win shootouts of any kind
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: of game where they need drives and playmaking. If the
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: forty nine ers drafted mac Jones instead of Trey Lance
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: three years ago, the forty nine ers may be on
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: a three peat. Watch it matters who is coaching, what
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: playmakers you have. Mac Jones has had below average situation
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: in both categories.
- 1:57:29Speaker 3: Do we really think that I've heard that set a
- 1:57:31Speaker 3: lot that the forty nine ers would be a dynasty
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: right now if they had mac Jones.
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: I don't think it, because I think at some point
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: to win titles you have to win games that are
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: different ways, high scoring, come from behind, I don't think.
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: But if you have the players around you, you have
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: different ways to win the game.
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: That's one of the great unknowns. You might be right right,
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: you don't know, it might be right here.
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: Like I'm not dismissing that like that he would be
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: good with forty or a team like that.
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: Sure it would be good.
- 1:57:57Speaker 6: There's a difference between being good and being going for
- 1:57:59Speaker 6: three Okay, that's yeah. Like, but I think to win
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: it all, you need to find a way to win
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: a game in a different way.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: I mean, do you think that brock Party is made
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: It's made to look better because of that team, of.
- 1:58:11Speaker 6: Course, of course, but brock Party hasn't won anything. He's
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: won games, right exactly, And I think Jones won games
- 1:58:19Speaker 6: two except for one. Yeah, okay, but he doesn't lose
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: because it happened in a different way.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: To the point, I've said this multiple times on this show.
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: When you look at Mac Jones at Alabama, he had
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: five star everything, elite everything, like he never if he
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: had to play Georgia now, like the Georgia now, he
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: would have had to find a way to win it
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: in a different way. He didn't have to do that then,
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: and that's why he's struggling so much now. He never
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: had to persevere, he never had to have ice in
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: his veins, he never had to be clutched.
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: He was just good.
- 1:58:50Speaker 8: So he had great talent around. But now, and that's
- 1:58:53Speaker 8: again like people that say, oh this is like a
- 1:58:56Speaker 8: good we're thirty three starts into it. Yeah, and so
- 1:59:01Speaker 8: he hasn't shown that ability that you just laid out
- 1:59:05Speaker 8: in thirty three games that he started in the NFL.
- 1:59:09Speaker 8: So I just at some point you got to show it,
- 1:59:12Speaker 8: like you have to have actual results. It can't just
- 1:59:14Speaker 8: be like, well it could be there, like it's got.
- 1:59:16Speaker 10: To be a boy.
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: Fred I like their chances to do it Sunday night
- 1:59:19Speaker 6: against Miami. I do yeah, Oh I like the spot.
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll see. We'll get the pitch later in the week.
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: But that's it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: be back tomorrow. Anything going on today, man, I need
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: to say.
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: No, all right, have one last line, just to go
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: back to that caller Cherry picking the absolute worst game
- 1:59:39Speaker 6: that Josh Allen's ever had in his career and saying
- 1:59:41Speaker 6: that's what he is is like beyond Paul like disingenuousness.
- 1:59:46Speaker 6: That was literally the worst game Josh Allen's ever played
- 1:59:49Speaker 6: and that's.
- 1:59:49Speaker 5: What he is.
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: That made me like, well, I think the Jets had
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: something to do with that, but okay, no, but.
- 1:59:54Speaker 6: I'm just saying he played an awful game. He did,
- 1:59:57Speaker 6: and that's what he is. Just what's the comment, Well.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: He's becoming what he's supposed to be.
- 2:00:02Speaker 6: Let's put it, okay, the second best quarterback in football
- 2:00:05Speaker 6: last year.
