Speaker 3: Happy Friday. Is it me or is everybody else? And
• 1:56
Speaker 3: I'm gonna presume the answer to this is yes. Everybody
• 1:59
Speaker 3: is trying to figure out what day of the week
• 2:01
Speaker 3: it is. I mean, I worked Christmas Eve and it
• 2:04
Speaker 3: did not work Christmas Day, but you know I came
• 2:06
Speaker 3: back on Thursday yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out
• 2:10
Speaker 3: what the heck day it is, but it is Friday,
• 2:13
Speaker 3: that's where. And get used to it because you're gonna
• 2:15
Speaker 3: have that next week as well. You know, I'll be
• 2:17
Speaker 3: doing shows Monday and Tuesday at the no Show Wednesday
• 2:20
Speaker 3: that I'm back on Thursday Friday. After that, though, things
• 2:24
Speaker 3: should get back to normal, whatever normal is in the
• 2:27
Speaker 3: world of radio or in your world. Coming up a
• 2:29
Speaker 3: little bit later on, we are going to be talking
• 2:31
Speaker 3: with Hannah Gardner from the Gnaella Charleston Humaine Association with
• 2:34
Speaker 3: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. We
• 2:36
Speaker 3: are efforting to get a hold of miss Hannah as
• 2:39
Speaker 3: we speak. Also, and I've talked about this before, but
• 2:43
Speaker 3: there's a bit of a time crunch now for this
• 2:46
Speaker 3: Night to Shine special Needs prom Now it's happening during
• 2:49
Speaker 3: the month of February at the Capitol High School. Our
• 2:52
Speaker 3: sister station V one hundred is heavily involved in this.
• 2:55
Speaker 3: We're going to talk to one of the organizers and
• 2:56
Speaker 3: she's been on the show in the past, Cordney Elswick
• 2:59
Speaker 3: from from this very very worthwhile cause it's part of
• 3:02
Speaker 3: the Tim Tebow Foundation, and it is a prom that's
• 3:06
Speaker 3: designed for special needs folks, and it's happening at Capitol
• 3:11
Speaker 3: High School, but it can be for any special needs
• 3:15
Speaker 3: folks regardless of age, across the valley. And so there's
• 3:18
Speaker 3: a reason though we're having Courtney on today because there's
• 3:21
Speaker 3: a time crunch they have to get to so many
• 3:22
Speaker 3: people signed up in order to be able to have
• 3:25
Speaker 3: the event, and I learned about it several months ago.
• 3:27
  Speaker 3: I think it's a very, very worthwhile event. So Courtney's
• 3:30
Speaker 3: going to join us a little bit later on the
• 3:32
Speaker 3: show to talk about as said, our sister Station V
• 3:34
Speaker 3: one hundred is heavily heavily involved in this event, plus
• 3:38
Speaker 3: your cause and texture welcome to pretty much the back
• 3:40
Speaker 3: end of the show is going to be open for
• 3:42
Speaker 3: anything you want to talk about, if you want to
• 3:44
Speaker 3: call me or text me. I got all kinds of
• 3:46
Speaker 3: things in the news I want to get into this morning,
• 3:48
Speaker 3: including the West Virginia is not going to have four
• 3:51
Speaker 3: governors in one day. That was a very real possibility
• 3:55
Speaker 3: because of some things in the constitution, with Governor Justice
• 3:59
Speaker 3: leaving office to go to Washington and then the incoming governor,
• 4:03
Speaker 3: Patrick Morrissey, Governor elect current Attorney General Patrick Morrissey coming in,
• 4:07
Speaker 3: there was a possibility we would actually have four governors.
• 4:10
Speaker 3: Governor Justice has said no, that's not the case. He
• 4:14
Speaker 3: and I'm gonna tell you why coming up a little
• 4:16
Speaker 3: bit later on in the show. Plus there's some other
• 4:20
Speaker 3: things I want to get to in the news as well.
• 4:22
Speaker 3: As I said, we're working on Hannah Gardner. Don't know
• 4:25
Speaker 3: whether we're gonna have Hannah now or not. Oh, by
• 4:26
Speaker 3: the way, I do have a texture it says, lol,
• 4:29
Speaker 3: don't feel bad, Dave. I kept thinking Christmas Day with Saturday.
• 4:31
Speaker 3: So there you go.
• 4:32
  Speaker 5: I am not.
• 4:33
Speaker 3: The only one, all right. So so I said, if
• 4:38
Speaker 3: we get Hannah, we'll have her on the air. If not,
• 4:40
Speaker 3: I can go ahead and tell you about the Adopt
• 4:41
Speaker 3: Me Please Pet of the Week. There's a reason why
• 4:44
Speaker 3: we do this stuff in advance. Our Adopt Me Please
• 4:46
Speaker 3: pet of the Week's name is Cinderella, and I've got
• 4:51
Speaker 3: Cinderella's picture posted at Dave Allen Radio and on Facebook
• 4:55
Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on Twitter. Cinderella is a
• 4:57
Speaker 3: one year old She is spade. She is microchipped and vaccinated.
• 5:01
Speaker 3: Around forty three pounds, very gentle, Hannah tells me we
• 5:05
Speaker 3: were texting back and forth last night about the dog.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: A very gentle dog, a little bit on the bashful side.
• 5:11
Speaker 3: The dog does walk well on a leash and seems
• 5:14
Speaker 3: to prefer the company of other calmer dogs, very playful,
• 5:19
Speaker 3: and it's if it's possible, and I think it is
• 5:22
Speaker 3: for a pet to have a cute smile. Hannah tells
• 5:26
Speaker 3: me that this dog, and you can see the picture
• 5:28
Speaker 3: I've got it posted again on Davevillan Radio on Facebook
• 5:31
Speaker 3: and at Dave a seventy on Twitter. You can see
• 5:33
Speaker 3: that Cinderella does indeed have a very very cute smile.
• 5:37
Speaker 3: So go check out Cinderella. As I said, I've get
• 5:41
Speaker 3: Cinderella's picture posted on davevill On Radio on Facebook and
• 5:43
Speaker 3: at day a seventy on Twitter again. One year old.
• 5:46
Speaker 3: She is spade, microchipped and vaccinated, around forty three pounds,
• 5:51
Speaker 3: very gentle and bashful, seems to walk well on a leash,
• 5:56
Speaker 3: does well with other dogs provided that they are calmer
• 5:59
Speaker 3: dog all right, so please note that so if you
• 6:01
Speaker 3: got other dogs won't be an issue more than likely,
• 6:04
Speaker 3: But she does prefer calmer dogs, it seems. And as
• 6:08
Speaker 3: Hannah says, she has a very cute smile. I'll tell
• 6:11
Speaker 3: you about some other things. Reading the story on the
• 6:16
Speaker 3: Canal christ Humane Association's Facebook page. They have a dog,
• 6:19
Speaker 3: and I think we may have featured this particular dog
• 6:22
Speaker 3: in the past on the show, a dog by the
• 6:24
Speaker 3: name of Peppermint Patty. Now Peppermint Patty. Not only I
• 6:29
Speaker 3: mean it's one thing for a dog to get out.
• 6:31
Speaker 3: We as we've all had pets, dogs, cats, whatever that
• 6:33
Speaker 3: sometimes you know, can be escape artists. This dog, from
• 6:36
Speaker 3: what I understand, not only escaped its pen so to speak.
• 6:43
Speaker 3: It's it's a little kennel up at the shelter. It
• 6:45
Speaker 3: escaped the shelter itself. It got out, went over the wall. Done,
• 6:50
Speaker 3: I'm gone. And there's a picture posted on the social
• 6:54
Speaker 3: media pages of the Canal Charleston Humane Association of the
• 6:57
Speaker 3: Charleston Police Department bringing the dog back. So go, if
• 7:02
Speaker 3: you get an opportunity today at some point, go over
• 7:04
Speaker 3: to the Kanal Charleston New Mane Associations Facebook page and
• 7:07
Speaker 3: check out the story of Peppermint Patty because this particular
• 7:10
Speaker 3: dog apparently had had enough escape not only her kennel,
• 7:13
Speaker 3: but also the entire shelter. Got out somehow Charleston p
• 7:17
Speaker 3: D got involved. Peppermint Patty is back. Also, the folks
• 7:21
Speaker 3: at the shelter. I know Hannah and I were going
• 7:23
Speaker 3: to talk about this, but again we're having some issues
• 7:25
Speaker 3: getting connected with HANDA. This morning, a lot of folks
• 7:28
Speaker 3: donated Christmas items for the animals up at the shelter,
• 7:32
Speaker 3: and I think that is an absolutely fantastic thing to do.
• 7:34
Speaker 3: And I'm not exactly whether it's Hannah or Angie. I'm
• 7:37
Speaker 3: not exactly who handles the social media for the Kannal
• 7:41
Speaker 3: charlesty Man Association, but I will say this, they do
• 7:43
Speaker 3: a fantastic job with it and there are pictures and
• 7:46
Speaker 3: videos posted on there constantly. There is a picture posted
• 7:50
Speaker 3: from a couple of days ago of the shelter pets
• 7:52
Speaker 3: actually enjoying their Christmas gifts that were donated by other people. Now,
• 7:57
Speaker 3: in talking to Hannah and Angie and the folks up
• 7:59
Speaker 3: there couple days ago, there's still at critical levels as
• 8:02
Speaker 3: far as their numbers go. Lots of people like to
• 8:04
Speaker 3: come in and they will adopt pets for the Christmas
• 8:07
Speaker 3: season heading into the new year. That is wonderful that
• 8:09
Speaker 3: you do. That make sure you realize though that getting
• 8:11
Speaker 3: a pet is a lifetime commitment, the lifetime of that pet.
• 8:15
Speaker 3: So if you're not sure it's going to work out,
• 8:17
Speaker 3: then probably you don't want to get you don't want
• 8:20
Speaker 3: to adopt a pet. But they are at critical levels
• 8:22
Speaker 3: up there. And Hannah and and Angiina folks tell me
• 8:25
Speaker 3: that they have pretty much got animals stuck in offices
• 8:28
Speaker 3: and everywhere up there. So I always say this, and
• 8:32
Speaker 3: it's kind of anger some people from time to time
• 8:34
Speaker 3: don't go to breeders. Don't go to breeders. Go to
• 8:37
Speaker 3: an animal shelter, whether it's Kana, whether it's potting. Now
• 8:40
Speaker 3: we got several in the area, all across the state
• 8:42
Speaker 3: of West Virginia, and go get your pets there. All right,
• 8:46

Speaker 3: and then tomorrow I'll be at the South Charleston location
• 14:54
Speaker 3: again starting at noon. We talked about this a few
• 14:58
Speaker 3: weeks ago, happening at Capitol High School on February the seventh,
• 15:02
Speaker 3: and it's hosted by the Southeast Church of the Nazarene
• 15:05
Speaker 3: and it's part of the work that the Tim Tebow
• 15:08
Speaker 3: Foundation does. It's called a Knight to Shine, and I
• 15:10
Speaker 3: mentioned earlier and our sister station V one hundred is
• 15:13
Speaker 3: heavily involved with this. Courtney Elswick is one of the
• 15:16
Speaker 3: organizers of the event and she joins us again. Courtney,
• 15:18
Speaker 3: good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 15:19
Speaker 8: Good morning, Thank you for having me, Thank you.
• 15:21
  Speaker 5: For being here.
• 15:21
Speaker 3: I know you've done kind of double duty today because
• 15:24
Speaker 3: you are across the hall with Logan Scott on V
• 15:27
Speaker 3: one hundred and telling the folks about it over there
• 15:31
Speaker 3: across the hall. So we had you on a couple
• 15:33
Speaker 3: of weeks ago. How are things progressing so far as
• 15:36
Speaker 3: you plan for this big event.
• 15:38
Speaker 9: We are getting ready to kind of go into our
• 15:41
  Speaker 9: really heavy.
• 15:42
Speaker 3: Heavy workload, the heavy lifting this started.
• 15:44
Speaker 8: Yeah, getting ready to start.
• 15:45
Speaker 3: Okay, so talk about the whole idea behind the event.
• 15:49
Speaker 9: Okay, So night to Shane was launched in twenty fourteen,
• 15:53
Speaker 9: and the whole point of it was to work with
• 15:55
Speaker 9: churches around the country to provide an unforgettable prom night
• 15:59
Speaker 9: experiences centered on God's love for those individuals with special
• 16:03
Speaker 9: needs ages fourteen and older.
• 16:05
Speaker 3: And again, I do want to even though it's being
• 16:08
Speaker 3: held at Capitol High School, this is not for Capital
• 16:11
Speaker 3: High School. I mean, it can be for Capital High
• 16:13
Speaker 3: School students obviously, but it's for any any person fourteen
• 16:16
Speaker 3: and older. So somebody could be fifty years old and
• 16:19
Speaker 3: come to this, right.
• 16:20
Speaker 9: We have several individuals that are a little higher in age.
• 16:24
Speaker 9: Very very few of our guests that have registered actually
• 16:27
Speaker 9: would be under the age of eighteen.
• 16:28
Speaker 8: Most are older than I am.
• 16:30
Speaker 3: Okay, I need to talk about how I was gonna
• 16:32
Speaker 3: say twenty twenty all right, I'm giving you a benefit,
• 16:34
Speaker 3: give you a benefit of.
• 16:35
Speaker 4: The doubt on that.
• 16:36
Speaker 3: Thank you, and I think this is a very.
• 16:39
  Speaker 5: Very worthwhile event.
• 16:39
Speaker 3: That's why, when you know you folks reached out to us,
• 16:42
Speaker 3: I got you with Logan Scott, the program director over
• 16:44
Speaker 3: V one hundred and sent ours. Our company as a
• 16:46
Speaker 3: whole wants to be involved in this because sometimes the
• 16:51
Speaker 3: folks that have and you can call it whatever you want.
• 16:54
Speaker 3: You can call it disabilities are a little bit different
• 16:56
Speaker 3: or whatever. They feel shut out of events so many
• 16:59
Speaker 3: times because they don't get that opportunity. But you're giving them,
• 17:03
Speaker 3: you folks, are giving them an opportunity, as you said,
• 17:06
Speaker 3: a night to shine.
• 17:07
Speaker 9: Absolutely, we want individuals to come and be celebrated for
• 17:10
Speaker 9: the kings and queens that they are. We have We
• 17:13
Speaker 9: have done everything and taking care of everything to make
• 17:16
Speaker 9: this as inclusive as possible, as easily accessible as possible.
• 17:22
Speaker 9: There were several venues that we actually tried to check
• 17:24
Speaker 9: into that weren't even wheelchair accessible, bathrooms weren't handicap accessible.
• 17:30
Speaker 9: Now these were private venues and such. So thankfully we
• 17:34
Speaker 9: approach the school and everything is completely accessible there and
• 17:38
Speaker 9: so they're letting us have it there. That way, there
• 17:39
Speaker 9: is there's absolutely no reason that we cannot accommodate any individual.
• 17:44
Speaker 3: Now the reason again the event is going to be
• 17:46
Speaker 3: in February. But the reason that we've had you on
• 17:48
Speaker 3: before and we've got you on again today is because
• 17:51
Speaker 3: this is as you said, this is when the heavy
• 17:52
Speaker 3: lifting begins, because you need a lot from the community
• 17:55
Speaker 3: to pull this off.
• 17:56
Speaker 9: Absolutely, our volunteer account is rising. We appreciate that so
• 18:01
Speaker 9: very much. And again, volunteers can sign up up until
• 18:04
Speaker 9: about the week before they do have to have a
• 18:06
Speaker 9: background check done, and that's taking a few days to
• 18:09
Speaker 9: kind of turn around to get to get that information
• 18:12
Speaker 9: back that we need right now, we just really need
• 18:15
Speaker 9: help spreading the word, getting it out there so that
• 18:17
Speaker 9: we can get our guests count up. We have, you know,
• 18:20
Speaker 9: a good bit of space that we want to fill.
• 18:23
Speaker 9: We want to max out our capacity as much as possible.
• 18:26
Speaker 3: How many people are we talking, I mean, I mean
• 18:28
Speaker 3: what would be maximum for you?
• 18:30
  Speaker 5: Ideally?
• 18:31
Speaker 9: So I would love to see our guests count one
• 18:34
Speaker 9: hundred hundred and fifty at least just for our guests.
• 18:36
Speaker 9: That's not including our volunteers, guests or the individuals with
• 18:39
Speaker 9: special needs and disabilities. You know, we can accommodate potentially
• 18:43
Speaker 9: more than that, but maybe our first run will go
• 18:46
Speaker 9: get there, keep it small the first time around now
• 18:49
Speaker 9: years on out. If I need a bigger place, or
• 18:51
Speaker 9: if we need something, you know, a bigger venue, then
• 18:55
Speaker 9: we'll absolutely make that happen. We don't want to turn
• 18:58
Speaker 9: anyone down for any reason.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: What's so, however, so where did this whole idea come from?
• 19:03
Speaker 3: I mean somebody you and some of the other folks
• 19:04
Speaker 3: are involved in it. You had to get this idea
• 19:06
Speaker 3: and say, okay, this is going this would be an
• 19:08
Speaker 3: awesome thing to bring to the Kanal Valley.
• 19:10
Speaker 5: Where did you get the idea from?
• 19:12
Speaker 9: So my pastor Bart Hodele approached me back in February
• 19:16
Speaker 9: this past year and he threw a text, Hey, have
• 19:19
Speaker 9: you heard about Night to Shine before?
• 19:21
Speaker 8: Yeah? Do you know anything about it? And I said, well,
• 19:24
  Speaker 8: some basics.
• 19:24
Speaker 9: Some of the girls that I work with, they've hosted
• 19:26
Speaker 9: it or they've been a part of it at their church.
• 19:29
Speaker 8: Said do you think we could do it? Well? Absolutely?
• 19:32
Speaker 8: And my only question was can I be in charge?
• 19:36
Speaker 5: Well, nothing wrong with that, somebody's got to do it right.
• 19:38
Speaker 3: Usually it's the opposite. Usually people say, well I'll help out,
• 19:40
Speaker 3: but I don't want to be the one with the clipboard.
• 19:42
Speaker 5: I don't want to be the one in charge. Not Courtney.
• 19:44
Speaker 3: Courtney jumps in and says, yeah, I'm the coach.
• 19:46
Speaker 5: I can do this.
• 19:47
Speaker 9: I do and my husband and my family are probably
• 19:49
Speaker 9: ready to kill me.
• 19:50
Speaker 3: I was gonna say, because you're going to drag your
• 19:51
Speaker 3: husband into this and I know the way this works, yes.
• 19:54
Speaker 9: But any reason for me to spreak it make a
• 19:56
Speaker 9: spreadsheet makes my heart happy.
• 19:57
Speaker 3: So any reason to make a spreadsheet, you're heart happy.
• 20:01
Speaker 3: You're a unicorn and that I'll say that in that respect. Again,
• 20:05
Speaker 3: we're talking with Courtney L's week about this event coming
• 20:07
Speaker 3: up a Capital High school. It is a night to
• 20:09
Speaker 3: shine and there is such a need for those in
• 20:13
Speaker 3: the community to help with this, and so we have
• 20:17
Speaker 3: you on to talk about it. Obviously, we want our
• 20:20
Speaker 3: special guest to be there, those with disabilities and a
• 20:23
Speaker 3: little disadvantage, but you got to have other folks to
• 20:27
Speaker 3: be able to pull this off. Talk about the need
• 20:31
Speaker 3: for those people who are we understand we they have
• 20:34
Speaker 3: to undergrow a background check, which is understandable. They can
• 20:36
Speaker 3: be student age, they could be a senior age, anybody
• 20:42
Speaker 3: that wants to help out.
• 20:43
Speaker 8: Yes, they can be.
• 20:45
Speaker 9: So our volunteers are again just like our guests ages
• 20:47
Speaker 9: fourteen and up. Every guest will be paired with an
• 20:51
Speaker 9: individual with non special needs that will be their buddy
• 20:53
Speaker 9: for the evening. That person will make sure that they
• 20:56
Speaker 9: get where they want to go. If they want to
• 20:57
Speaker 9: go to karaoke, they're going to make sure they get there.
• 21:00
Speaker 9: If they just want to go eat, you know, they'll
• 21:02
Speaker 9: make sure that their food is prepared the way that
• 21:05
Speaker 9: they need it. We have several individuals that need things
• 21:07
Speaker 9: cut up very small, or they can only eat certain
• 21:10
Speaker 9: types of textures of food. Their buddy will make sure
• 21:13
Speaker 9: that they are completely taken care of for the evening.
• 21:17
Speaker 8: We also want the red carpet.
• 21:20
Speaker 9: To be completely aligned with individuals just cheering our guests
• 21:23
Speaker 9: on when they get there, snapping photos, you know, holding
• 21:26
Speaker 9: up signs, just reassuring them that they're amazing, they're loved,
• 21:30
Speaker 9: and that they're part of this community too.
• 21:33
Speaker 3: So give me an idea of who some volunteers would be.
• 21:36
Speaker 3: Maybe a business wants to get involved in this. I mean,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: it'd be a great thing. I mentioned the first time
• 21:41
Speaker 3: you were on that in West Virginia, high school senior
• 21:44
Speaker 3: or high school students have to do so many hours
• 21:46
Speaker 3: of community service in order to graduate. That's the rules
• 21:49
Speaker 3: in West Virginia. You have to have so many hours
• 21:51
Speaker 3: of community service. So it would be ideal for them
• 21:54
Speaker 3: to do this. Civic groups, you know, your Kowanas, your
• 21:58
Speaker 3: Lions Club, your rotaries, other church groups. I mean, there's
• 22:02
Speaker 3: so many different different groups of people Courtney that could
• 22:06
Speaker 3: help out with this.
• 22:07
Speaker 9: Yes, again, we were gonna need a lot of manpower
• 22:10
Speaker 9: to pull this off. This is going to be a
• 22:12
Speaker 9: large event, the full catering for all decoration, DJ dance floor.
• 22:18
  Speaker 8: Karaoke, photo booth.
• 22:20
Speaker 9: We're gonna need just help manning those stations, getting all
• 22:23
Speaker 9: of that in there, tearing it all down. All of
• 22:26
Speaker 9: that's going to take just labor, period, and then again
• 22:31
Speaker 9: help just putting the word out there sharing it. Obviously,
• 22:34
Speaker 9: funding we could still use more donations or if you
• 22:37
Speaker 9: want to sponsor a certain station which is like the
• 22:41
Speaker 9: videographer or you know, the catering, if you want to
• 22:44
Speaker 9: sponsor that, that's absolutely an option as well.
• 22:47
Speaker 3: I had a text here somebody says, do you need
• 22:50
Speaker 3: a DJ? Do you have a DJ already?
• 22:52
Speaker 8: We do have a DJ already.
• 22:54
Speaker 9: If they would like to see about potentially doing this
• 22:56
Speaker 9: in the future, or if we could set up another
• 23:00
Speaker 9: station kind of in that karaoke area or something, they
• 23:03
  Speaker 9: can absolutely talk.
• 23:04
  Speaker 5: To me about.
• 23:05
Speaker 3: I have a feeling that the person that texted me
• 23:06
Speaker 3: is probably a DJ asking and they did say in
• 23:09
Speaker 3: the text that they would volunteer, so maybe we can
• 23:13
Speaker 3: try to link up here you We'll get your contact information,
• 23:16
Speaker 3: maybe they can reach out to you, because I know
• 23:18
Speaker 3: you've got a DJ now and you said that, and
• 23:20
Speaker 3: that's great, but sometimes things happen. You know, people could
• 23:22
Speaker 3: get it, wouldn't it wouldn't hurt to have somebody on
• 23:24
Speaker 3: backup just in case.
• 23:25
Speaker 9: February we never know what weather wise we're going to
• 23:29
  Speaker 9: be looking at.
• 23:29
Speaker 3: Could be seventy or it could be seven. You know
• 23:32
Speaker 3: that's that's February. So all right, So the texture that
• 23:34
Speaker 3: said that will make sure we get you Courtney's information
• 23:37
Speaker 3: so you can contact her and maybe you just have
• 23:39
Speaker 3: them on standby just in case, or maybe you know
• 23:41
Speaker 3: there's something else that they could do there, because they
• 23:43
Speaker 3: did say they were willing to volunteer.
• 23:44
Speaker 5: So that's good stuff, right.
• 23:46
Speaker 9: Yes, and we appreciate that more than we could ever
• 23:48
  Speaker 9: ever say.
• 23:49
Speaker 3: So if I'm an owner of a business right now,
• 23:51
  Speaker 3: I own you know, Dave's Auto Sales, and I don't
• 23:54
Speaker 3: know tanning bed or something. I just made that up
• 23:56
Speaker 3: so off on the end, and I want to spawn
• 24:00
Speaker 3: sponsor this event. I say, look, I've got some funds.
• 24:03
Speaker 3: I would like to become a sponsor. What opportunities are
• 24:06
  Speaker 3: available there for.
• 24:06
Speaker 9: Me, so you can if you want to sponsor a
• 24:11
Speaker 9: specific specific station there. All of our vendors thus far
• 24:18
Speaker 9: are taken care of, but their payment will just come
• 24:20
Speaker 9: out of our general fund that we have right now,
• 24:22
Speaker 9: so you can if you just want to donate to
• 24:24
Speaker 9: our Plates, Cups and Napkins fund.
• 24:26
  Speaker 8: Our general fund.
• 24:28
Speaker 3: Without plates pay Without plates, cups and napkins, there's not
• 24:31
Speaker 3: a whole lot of eating going on.
• 24:33
Speaker 9: We still one of the big things that we need
• 24:35
Speaker 9: to purchase our heaters again.
• 24:37
Speaker 8: February could be seven.
• 24:39
Speaker 9: We're gonna have to have heaters because we're gonna have
• 24:41
  Speaker 9: people outside.
• 24:42
Speaker 8: We want them to be comfortable.
• 24:44
Speaker 9: We still need the red carpet and that whole area
• 24:48
Speaker 9: taken care of. Somebody could sponsor that again, any of
• 24:52
Speaker 9: the things that are already inside, if they want to
• 24:54
Speaker 9: sponsor those. There are so many places that I don't
• 24:57
Speaker 9: think I could sit.
• 24:57
Speaker 8: Here and just name them.
• 24:59
Speaker 9: Another one that a lot of people probably don't think
• 25:01
Speaker 9: of is we have to have an adult changing station
• 25:04
Speaker 9: available because some of our guests cannot use the regular
• 25:08
Speaker 9: restroom area, and that's something that the schools just don't have,
• 25:12
Speaker 9: and so we've kind of had to go outside the
• 25:14
Speaker 9: box and get that taken care of.
• 25:16
Speaker 8: And so that's another one that we still need to.
• 25:19
Speaker 5: Got to have somebody for that. Yeah.
• 25:21
Speaker 3: Can we're talking with Courtneyil's week from a Night to Shine.
• 25:24
Speaker 3: This big event that's going to be happening in a
• 25:25
Speaker 3: Capitol high school, the Show of Dave Island Show here
• 25:28
Speaker 3: is brought to you part by your hometown baseball team,
• 25:30
Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds and Slango Law continue
• 25:33
Speaker 3: with Light the Night through the new year. Follow the
• 25:35
Speaker 3: Dirty Birds on Facebook for details. But please, please please
• 25:38
Speaker 3: please get your tickets ahead of time. It cuts down
• 25:40
Speaker 3: on the lines and everything. Go to Dblightthanight dot com
• 25:43
Speaker 3: to get your tickets ahead of time again Dblightthnight dot com.
• 25:47
Speaker 3: And we did mention that this is being hosted by
• 25:51
Speaker 3: the Southeast Church of the Nazarine, but this is not
• 25:54
Speaker 3: a church event per se, correct, I mean that's the
• 25:58
Speaker 3: one of the idea community event. Yes, and uh so
• 26:03
Speaker 3: we want to make sure that people that people not
• 26:05
Speaker 3: there's anything wrong with that. Well, we just want to
• 26:06
Speaker 3: make sure people understand that this is not necessarily a
• 26:09
Speaker 3: church event, so to speak. You folks are just stepping
• 26:12
Speaker 3: up to the plate and with your church and trying
• 26:14
Speaker 3: to make this a night to Shine as.
• 26:16
Speaker 8: The name says, Yes, absolutely all right.
• 26:18
Speaker 3: I had a text here said how would I go
• 26:20
Speaker 3: about signing up my daughter?
• 26:22
Speaker 9: Okay, so you can go to the I think the
• 26:25
Speaker 9: V one hundred Facebook page still has it pinned to there. Okay,
• 26:28
Speaker 9: you can go to the church's website.
• 26:31
Speaker 3: That's Southeast Church Church of the Nazarene, Southeast Church of
• 26:34
  Speaker 3: the Nazarene.
• 26:34
Speaker 9: Okay, yes, absolutely, they have a Facebook page. Everything is
• 26:37
Speaker 9: linked there. The event itself has a Facebook page. All
• 26:41
Speaker 9: of the links are there, and I'm probably driving people
• 26:43
Speaker 9: crazy because I post on it all the time. Hey,
• 26:45
Speaker 9: by the way, let's register. Hey, let's let's get your registered.
• 26:48
Speaker 9: Here's the links to everything. At this point, I think
• 26:52
Speaker 9: you can just google Night to Shine Charleston and it
• 26:56
Speaker 9: will take you somewhere.
• 26:58
Speaker 3: It'll take you someone you there.
• 27:00
Speaker 9: Yeah, And the church's website is just Southeast naz naz
• 27:05
Speaker 9: dot Church Center dot com and that will take you
• 27:10
Speaker 9: to our church's website. There's a whole page for that.
• 27:11
Speaker 9: And again there's a Facebook page for our church. There's
• 27:14
Speaker 9: a Facebook page just.
• 27:15
Speaker 8: For the event. And then again pend on the V
• 27:18
Speaker 8: one hundred page, and.
• 27:20
Speaker 3: Again, hats off to you, folks, because I think this
• 27:22
Speaker 3: is going to be an absolutely fantastic thing, and I
• 27:24
Speaker 3: appreciate you reaching out to me. I kind of linked
• 27:26
Speaker 3: you up with the folks of V one hundred because
• 27:27
Speaker 3: I thought, you know, we're all going to be involved
• 27:30
Speaker 3: in some way. All the stations will be doing something
• 27:32
Speaker 3: up there. But I thought that, you know, there's folks Stephen, Jenny,
• 27:34
Speaker 3: you know, and Logan and the folks at V one hundred.
• 27:37
Speaker 3: This is right up right up there, alley. And again,
• 27:39
Speaker 3: this is going to be a major, major undertaking, and
• 27:43
Speaker 3: Courtney and the folks could use some help with this.
• 27:46
Speaker 3: I mean, even if you are listening right now and
• 27:48
Speaker 3: you say, hey, I think this sounds like a cool event.
• 27:50
Speaker 5: I just want to help out.
• 27:51
  Speaker 3: I can't. I can't donate any money. I just want
• 27:55
Speaker 3: to come help out. You'll put them to work, absolutely
• 27:58
  Speaker 3: I will.

Speaker 9: And again, if nothing else, come cheer the people on
• 28:02
Speaker 9: as they make signs. Remind them how amazing they are
• 28:05
Speaker 9: and how special they are. Line that red carpet, just
• 28:08
Speaker 9: pack out that whole entrance. If you are, you know,
• 28:12
Speaker 9: not that kind of cannonball into the deep end of
• 28:14
Speaker 9: the Bay, you just want to dip your toes, that's
• 28:17
Speaker 9: probably the best area to start. You can come a
• 28:19
Speaker 9: little late, leave early if you want to.
• 28:22
Speaker 3: You're not gonna turn anybody way that wants to help.
• 28:24
Speaker 9: No, yeah, no, no, no, no, yeah, absolutely, I mean set up,
• 28:28
Speaker 9: take down. There are so many areas that I can
• 28:31
Speaker 9: use people in Buddies, and it's just kind of up
• 28:34
Speaker 9: to you how involved you want to be. Another thing,
• 28:36
Speaker 9: I personally have gone door to door to different like
• 28:39
Speaker 9: physical therapy, occupational rehab places, nursing homes, taking them signs,
• 28:45
Speaker 9: and there are a lot of places that were closed
• 28:48
Speaker 9: or just never called me back. And I want to
• 28:51
Speaker 9: make sure that we get the word out to anybody
• 28:53
Speaker 9: that wants to be involved. So if anybody has any
• 28:56
Speaker 9: contacts there, or if you work somewhere like that, feel
• 28:59
Speaker 9: free to reach out to me too. If you have
• 29:01
Speaker 9: a group of individuals that want to volunteer or a
• 29:04
Speaker 9: group that want to come as guests, I will, I
• 29:06
Speaker 9: will find somewhere for everyone.
• 29:08

• 29:32
Speaker 5: Do you need more? Do you need? I mean we
• 29:34
Speaker 5: talk about the food little bit.
• 29:35
Speaker 9: So Christina Casto Lynch with Bellow the Ball Dream weddings

• 29:45
Speaker 9: of the food to be taken care of for that day.
• 29:48
Speaker 9: She will be there to man the serving operations. But
• 29:51
Speaker 9: we do still need some people. If you're you know,
• 29:53
Speaker 9: if you do that for a living, if you if
• 29:55
Speaker 9: you wait tables, or you know, if you work in
• 29:58
Speaker 9: a restaurant and that's kind of your your niche, your area,
• 30:01
Speaker 9: maybe you want to come and help surf, Maybe you
• 30:03
Speaker 9: want to come help bus tables or help these individuals,
• 30:06
Speaker 9: you know, get everything that they need.
• 30:08
Speaker 3: We have a lot of places in the area we
• 30:10
Speaker 3: have a lot of great bakeries, and we have a
• 30:11
Speaker 3: lot of you know, people to do gourmet cupcakes and
• 30:15
  Speaker 3: things of.
• 30:15
Speaker 5: That nature all over the valley.
• 30:16
  Speaker 8: Dessert.
• 30:17
Speaker 3: I was going to say that might be something if
• 30:19
Speaker 3: somebody's listening to us right now, I know we've got
• 30:21
Speaker 3: them all over the Kanal Valley that do great jobs
• 30:24
Speaker 3: with things like cookies and cupcakes and whatever. I mean,
• 30:26
Speaker 3: if you know, I know you've got a caterer, but
• 30:28
Speaker 3: you're not going to turn down if somebody says, hey,
• 30:30
Speaker 3: I'd like to send up a couple dozen cupcakes, You're
• 30:32
Speaker 3: not going to turn it down.
• 30:32
Speaker 9: Absolutely not another great area that that would be used.
• 30:35
Speaker 9: And as we have an area for the parents just
• 30:38
Speaker 9: to lounge parents caregivers that way they can kind of
• 30:41
Speaker 9: take a break. I had a lady she signed up
• 30:44
Speaker 9: her son and she was a little concerned. She's it's
• 30:49
Speaker 9: actually her grandsonce she's a little older. And she said,
• 30:52
Speaker 9: how am I going to know, you know, do I
• 30:53
Speaker 9: need to stay with him? How am I going to
• 30:55
Speaker 9: know that his foods this way? How am I going
• 30:56
Speaker 9: to know that this is this? And I told her
• 30:58
Speaker 9: his buddy will have you know, there are no card
• 31:00
Speaker 9: every allergy, every concern, every everything listed on there.
• 31:04
Speaker 8: So what am I supposed to do?
• 31:06
  Speaker 9: I said, Well, we're gonna have a parent's lounge and
• 31:08
Speaker 9: you can go sit and sitting there watch TV. We're
• 31:10
Speaker 9: gonna have that catered. You just get to relax. And
• 31:12
Speaker 9: she's she started crying, and then while I went with her,
• 31:15
Speaker 9: I just started crying too, and she said, I, I
• 31:18
Speaker 9: just get to relax, Like he's not gonna need me
• 31:21
Speaker 9: for a few minutes. I said, no, you'll be there
• 31:23
Speaker 9: on Capitol's campus, but he'll be taken care of and
• 31:25
Speaker 9: you just get to go and sit and relax and eat.
• 31:29
Speaker 9: We're gonna have a couple people there doing like little
• 31:31
Speaker 9: mini massages and some nail technicians and hairstylists, and they're
• 31:34
Speaker 9: kind of pampering the parents and the caregivers that don't
• 31:36
Speaker 9: normally get the time to do that.
• 31:38
Speaker 5: It's kind of a night out for them as well.
• 31:40
Speaker 9: Absolutely, and if you are someone in that area of business,
• 31:44
Speaker 9: we would also like to offer gift cards to the parents,
• 31:46
Speaker 9: even if it's just for manicure, just for you know,
• 31:49
Speaker 9: smaller things a haircut, to take in their little grab bags,
• 31:52
Speaker 9: because they may not always have the time or the
• 31:54
Speaker 9: extra resources to be able to go take care of themselves.
• 31:57
Speaker 9: And so we do still need desserts for that areas.
• 32:00
Speaker 5: Okay, H very good.
• 32:01
Speaker 3: All right, we've thrown out a lot of information. We're
• 32:03

• 39:56
Speaker 3: some other things I wanted to get into the news
• 39:58
Speaker 3: this morning, So the governor cleared some things up for
• 40:03
Speaker 3: all of us yesterday. Jeff Jenkins with the lead story
• 40:07
Speaker 3: this morning wv Metronews dot com. The governor, saying yesterday
• 40:10
Speaker 3: he will stay on as a governor until the new
• 40:15
Speaker 3: governor governor like Patrick Morrissey, current Attorney General of the state,
• 40:19
Speaker 3: takes the oath of office on January thirteenth. Now technically, technically,
• 40:24
Speaker 3: Jim Justice is due to take his seat in the
• 40:27
Speaker 3: US Senate on January third, and had the governor taken
• 40:33
Speaker 3: his seat as scheduled on the third, it could have
• 40:36
Speaker 3: created quite an interesting situation, which we've talked about on
• 40:39
Speaker 3: the show in the past, where we could have had
• 40:43
Speaker 3: four governors in ten days. That would have been Governor Justice,
• 40:48
Speaker 3: the current state Senate President Craig Blair, the soon to
• 40:51
Speaker 3: be Senate President Randy Smith, and then Patrick Morrissey on
• 40:55
Speaker 3: the thirteenth. The governor yesterday saying, quote, I don't think
• 40:59
Speaker 3: that West Virginia he needs to have four governors in
• 41:01
Speaker 3: ten days in quote, and the governor said he spoke
• 41:05
Speaker 3: with Senator's Senator Shelley Moore Capitol and the incoming Senate
• 41:09
Speaker 3: Majority Leader John Thune, and they both support his decision.
• 41:16
Speaker 3: The governor went on to say that he doesn't expect
• 41:20
Speaker 3: much to happen until President Elect Trump takes office himself
• 41:25
Speaker 3: on January twentieth, So we're not going to have four governors,
• 41:30
Speaker 3: you know, we're going to have justice. Basically, he's just
• 41:32
Speaker 3: going to take the oath of office. Well, I mean,
• 41:34
Speaker 3: let me back up. He's going to take his seat,
• 41:36
Speaker 3: i should say, in Washington a little bit later, and
• 41:39
Speaker 3: he's got the full support of those of the leadership
• 41:43
Speaker 3: there and also the other senator from West Virginia, shelleymore Capital.
• 41:46
Speaker 3: In the meantime, Brad mcwhenney has a story on the
• 41:49
Speaker 3: website that the Governor's office responded to a request to
• 41:55
Speaker 3: better understand how the governor decided to help out the school,
• 41:59
Speaker 3: where he is also a coach, a job, but by
• 42:06
Speaker 3: the way, he says, he will continue even when he's
• 42:09
Speaker 3: in the US Senate. His office responded to a second
• 42:13
Speaker 3: request for clarity by sending the original press release again
• 42:20
Speaker 3: with some with key passages highlighted. Now a little background here.
• 42:27
Speaker 3: Earlier this month, the governor announced financial support to replace
• 42:32
Speaker 3: the floor at Greenbrier East High School, where he remains
• 42:36
Speaker 3: as the girls basketball coach. The money comes from the
• 42:41
Speaker 3: Governor's Discretionary Fund. There is also funding for a lighting
• 42:45
Speaker 3: upgrade at Greenbrier East's football field and a replacement for
• 42:52
Speaker 3: the basketball court at the high school across the county,
• 42:54
Speaker 3: the big rivals at Greenbrier East Greenbrier West. So I
• 42:57
Speaker 3: guess as far as Greenbrier Canty goes, he's not showing
• 42:59
  Speaker 3: favoritism here.
• 43:00
  Speaker 5: He's going He's going.
• 43:01
Speaker 3: To to the the Cavaliers, I think is their name
• 43:05
Speaker 3: of Greenbrier West. Going back to earlier in the month,
• 43:11
Speaker 3: Metro News sent a public records request for the formal
• 43:16
Speaker 3: application demonstrating the needs from the schools, as well as
• 43:22
Speaker 3: the documents that approved the grants. Now a week or
• 43:26
Speaker 3: so later, the governor's office sent copies of the formal
• 43:30
Speaker 3: notification to the state Auditor's Office of the amount of
• 43:34
Speaker 3: the grants and their disbursement from the Governor's Civil Contendency Fund.
• 43:39
Speaker 3: And when Metro News asked for an updates, the Metro
• 43:44
Speaker 3: News folks us, I guess the got the original statement,
• 43:50
Speaker 3: just highlighted. You got that now. Brad mchalhanney has all
• 43:56
Speaker 3: the stuff surrounding the story posted as part of his
• 43:58
Speaker 3: story at wv Metronews dot com. And for the record,
• 44:03
Speaker 3: it is worth noting that there's nothing wrong with what
• 44:08
Speaker 3: the governor did here. It's part of his contingency fund. However,
• 44:13
Speaker 3: I will say, and it's been brought up by people
• 44:15
Speaker 3: that sometimes it just doesn't look good with it being
• 44:21
Speaker 3: his home county. But I think you have to understand,
• 44:24
Speaker 3: as governor of West Virginia, you're going to be from
• 44:27
Speaker 3: one of the fifty five counties. So there's always going
• 44:31
Speaker 3: to be a certain amount of shade thrown on the
• 44:33
Speaker 3: governor's home county saying that he's looking out for he
• 44:36
Speaker 3: or she is looking out for their home county. And
• 44:40
Speaker 3: that's I think part of what that I mean. Look,
• 44:42
Speaker 3: you know, Earl ray Tomlin for my native land in
• 44:45
Speaker 3: Logan County, he got plenty of that, and so did
• 44:47
Speaker 3: the other folks that have been governors, and but it
• 44:50
Speaker 3: just I think it added another level because it just
• 44:54
Speaker 3: wasn't toward his county. It was also toward the school
• 44:59
Speaker 3: of which he is also a coach. But again he
• 45:02
Speaker 3: also went across county and did the same thing at
• 45:05
Speaker 3: the rivals of Greenbrieres. But you know, regardless, it's the
• 45:08
Speaker 3: money is put there for a reason, and it's at
• 45:12
Speaker 3: his discretion. That's why it's called a discretionary phone.
• 45:15
Speaker 5: So so there it is.
• 45:18
Speaker 3: Tex says the governor's move is clearly selfish. We're talking
• 45:22
Speaker 3: about the governor not taking office until later. West Virginia
• 45:27
Speaker 3: will not have a second senator from January third until
• 45:31
Speaker 3: January thirteenth. That is nothing short of a travesty, says
• 45:34
Speaker 3: a TEXTA. Well, the governor says in his defense that
• 45:37
Speaker 3: there's not a whole lot going to be going on
• 45:38
Speaker 3: at that time anyway, until President Trump arrives there later
• 45:42
  Speaker 3: in the month.
• 45:43
Speaker 5: That's what the governor would say about that text.
• 45:47
Speaker 3: Texas Dave, how about President Elon Musk wanting to expand
• 45:51
Speaker 3: each would be visas for tech workers. Sounds like he
• 45:53
Speaker 3: wants foreign labor for lower wages and being trapped in
• 45:57
Speaker 3: a job because they're on the visas. That's maga right there,

Speaker 3: little bit later on on talk line. Senator Mansion was
• 48:44
Speaker 3: out with the statement yesterday afternoon about something we had
• 48:47
Speaker 3: talked about, and that is the commuting of several death
• 48:50
Speaker 3: sentences by President Biden, including the killers of Marshall student
• 48:54
Speaker 3: Samantha Burns, going back to two thousand and two, those

Speaker 3: two Brandon Basham and Chadwick full Now. Senator Manchin says
• 49:02
Speaker 3: he spoke to the parents of Samantha Burns and the
• 49:05
Speaker 3: parents of Mansion. I'm sorry the Senator Manchaon spoke to
• 49:09
Speaker 3: the parents of the samansia of Samantha Burns, and he
• 49:13
Speaker 3: referred Senator did to the communiting of the sentences quote
• 49:17
Speaker 3: as horribly misguided and insulting in quote, and as we
• 49:23
Speaker 3: talked about earlier this week, instead of being on death
• 49:27
Speaker 3: row and there and their seven The seventeen day crime
• 49:30
Speaker 3: spree included a lot of other crime in addition to
• 49:33
Speaker 3: the tragic killing of Samantha Burns, the Marshall student nineteen
• 49:37
Speaker 3: years old back in two thousand and two. There was
• 49:39
Speaker 3: a whole lot in his crime spree that these two did.
• 49:42
Speaker 3: The two are now going to be spending life in
• 49:45
Speaker 3: prison without the possibility ever of parole. And and and look,
• 49:52
Speaker 3: you know, maybe I have not done a good job
• 49:55
Speaker 3: of giving my view of the death penalty. That's based
• 49:59
Speaker 3: on some of the angry texts that I've gotten this week.
• 50:01
Speaker 3: Make no mistake about it. I am one hundred percent,
• 50:05
Speaker 3: one hundred percent in favor of the death penalty. What
• 50:08
Speaker 3: I'm not in favor of is the way we do
• 50:11
Speaker 3: it in America now, where a lot of these scumbags
• 50:16
Speaker 3: remain on death row on your dime, with year after
• 50:20
Speaker 3: year of stays and other delays and so on and
• 50:23
Speaker 3: so forth. And it's been proven how expensive that that is.
• 50:31
Speaker 3: Our hearts and thoughts and prayers go out, and I
• 50:34
Speaker 3: have continued and will continue to go out. I remember
• 50:37
Speaker 3: the story well when it happened back in two thousand
• 50:40
Speaker 3: and two. Hearts, and you know, I can't imagine what
• 50:44
Speaker 3: that would be like, and not only Samantha Burns, but
• 50:47
Speaker 3: the other victims of the crimes that Bashman folks committed
• 50:51
Speaker 3: back then. If it were me, and it's easy for
• 50:54
Speaker 3: me to say this because it wasn't my daughter that
• 50:57
Speaker 3: was murdered, I don't know that I would want the
• 50:59
Speaker 3: state can them because I probably want to do it myself.
• 51:03
Speaker 3: But that having been said, I certainly I would prefer
• 51:07
Speaker 3: that they write in jail if it were me, simply
• 51:09
Speaker 3: because the death penalty the way the way we do
• 51:11
Speaker 3: it in America is a joke.
• 51:12
  Speaker 5: Now.
• 51:14
  Speaker 3: I don't want them to suffer a little bit. That's
• 51:16
Speaker 3: but that's just me because I'm I'm evil that way.
• 51:20
Speaker 3: But in reality, folks, no one knows what they would
• 51:22
Speaker 3: do if they were in that situation. Senator Manchion, though,
• 51:24
Speaker 3: did speak to the parents of Samantha Burns, and that
• 51:27
Speaker 3: was kind of a joint statement that came out on
• 51:30
Speaker 3: that yesterday. You could read more about it on the website.
• 51:33
Speaker 3: Tex says any thought on why the state Christmas Tree

• 51:39
Speaker 3: alive and well, Satan, I did not know that I haven't.
• 51:41
Speaker 3: I was at the Capitol a couple of weeks ago,
• 51:43
  Speaker 3: but now I don't.

• 51:51
Speaker 3: killers of Samantha Burns. These two animals have been in
• 51:54
Speaker 3: prison for twenty years and should have been put to
• 51:57
Speaker 3: death years ago. Our justice system needs changed again, an
• 52:01
Speaker 3: example of a corrupt left wing president.
• 52:03
Speaker 5: Evil is all it is.
• 52:04
Speaker 3: Well, I look, I said, I am one hundred percent
• 52:07
Speaker 3: capital punishment, make no mistake about it. However, the way
• 52:11
Speaker 3: we do it in America right now, no, and quite frankly,
• 52:14
Speaker 3: there have been cases in the past where we got
• 52:18
Speaker 3: it wrong in the court system, whether it's death penalty
• 52:21
Speaker 3: or wrongful imprisonment. But yeah, I don't think you can
• 52:26
Speaker 3: blame a corrupt left wing president for this, because I
• 52:28
Speaker 3: think it's been going on for some time.
