- 0:00Welcome back to Spy Trader , the podcast where we cut through the noise so you can capture the upside .
- 0:06I'm your host , Barry Bucks , and it's 6 am on Friday , October 3rd , 2025 , Pacific .
- 0:13We've got a wild morning ahead , folks , because the US stock market is currently navigating a government shutdown , while simultaneously hitting alltime highs fueled by pure AI euphoria .
- 0:24Let's dive into the headlines .
- 0:26The bottom line up front : the market is exhibiting robust upward momentum .
- 0:31The S&P 500 , whose tracking ETF is SPY , recently hit a new alltime high , extending a significant rally that saw it gain 3.5% just in September .
- 0:43Leading the charge , as always , is the Nasdaq100 , tracked by QQQ .
- 0:49The AI infrastructure build is the core catalyst here , driving massive gains in tech megacaps like Nvidia , AMD , and Intel .
- 0:59These companies are capitalizing on massive chip demand , supported by strategic moves like OpenAI’s 6.6 billion share sale .
- 1:09But it's not just growth .
- 1:11We're seeing defensive sectors come back to life .
- 1:14Healthcare , tracked by XLV , has recently outperformed the S&P 500 , benefiting hugely from policy clarity , specifically a landmark drug pricing agreement involving Pfizer and the White House which included tariff relief , lifting the entire pharmaceutical subsector .
- 1:34Meanwhile , alternative assets are screaming higher .
- 1:38Gold is consolidating its rally , currently trading near 3,860 per ounce , supported by central bank buying and lower US Treasury yields .
- 1:49Now for the analysis .
- 1:50Why is the market ignoring the fact that the US Federal Government shutdown is in its third day and key economic data like the payrolls report is being delayed ?
- 2:00Simply put , investors are focusing on two massive structural tailwinds .
- 2:05First , the Fed has confirmed its dovish pivot .
- 2:09They have already cut the policy rate this year ( now 4.0% to 4.25% ) and markets are fully pricing in an additional rate cut this October 2025 .
- 2:21Lower rates are a huge tailwind for highgrowth tech stock valuations .
- 2:26Second , we have AIdriven productivity .
- 2:30We are seeing a puzzling decoupling : the US economy is resilient , growing at nearly 4% annualized GDP growth in Q3 2025 , yet the labor market is minimal , with ADP reporting a loss of 32,000 privatesector jobs in September .
- 2:47This is the definition of AI at work — higher output with less labor input .
- 2:53This secular shift is what justifies the premium valuations we are seeing in the Technology sector .
- 3:00So , how do we trade this bifurcated market ?
- 3:03We stick with the winners while adding ratesensitive value .
- 3:07Recommendation one : maintain your core growth exposure .
- 3:11The AI productivity theme is real and portfolios lacking it are underweight the primary market driver .
- 3:19Maintain your position in the Invesco QQQ Trust ( QQQ ) , which tracks the Nasdaq100 , or the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) , which offers exposure to giants like Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) .
- 3:35Remember , QQQ has delivered a phenomenal 3year annualized return of 31.8% .
- 3:41Recommendation two : overweight defensive and policydriven value .
- 3:46To balance that highoctane tech , we need stability .
- 3:50The policy clarity around Pfizer , coupled with strong secular trends in biotech like GLP1 drugs , makes Healthcare extremely attractive .
- 4:00We recommend overweighting the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) .
- 4:05Recommendation three : prepare for rate sensitivity .
- 4:08Financials and Real Estate are poised to benefit significantly from falling rates .
- 4:14Decreasing capital costs benefit REITs by setting the stage for refinancing and recovery .
- 4:21Initiate a position in the Vanguard Real Estate ETF ( VNQ ) to capitalize on the structural recovery driven by the Fed's dovish pivot .
- 4:30Recommendation four : hold a small hedge .
- 4:33With geopolitical uncertainty and the government shutdown , a small allocation to gold is prudent .
- 4:39The SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) is seeing increased inflows as an alternative asset hedge against the depreciating dollar .
- 4:47That’s all for today’s Spy Trader .
- 4:50Keep your eyes on those tech megacaps and your powder dry for October’s anticipated rate cut .
- 4:57I’m Barry Bucks , and I’ll catch you on the next high note .
