- 0:36Speaker 2: Our nuclear reactor pumping.
- 0:38Speaker 6: Out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:06Speaker 2: To provide more cooling in the containment chamber. To your citizens,
- 1:09Speaker 2: we have revealed.
- 1:11Speaker 5: How you doing?
- 1:12Speaker 2: What do you say I buy you a cup of coffee?
- 1:17Speaker 7: Way down among Brazilians Coffee beans grow by the billions
- 1:22Speaker 7: So they've got to find those extra cups to fill
- 1:27Speaker 7: They got an awful lot of coffee in.
- 1:29Speaker 8: Brazil What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:35Speaker 9: I'm Alan.
- 1:35Speaker 10: I'm Marlena.
- 1:36Speaker 8: I'm Lucy.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I'm Beau. I'm Fred. I'm Greg.
- 1:40Speaker 8: And it is time for another session of The Caffeinated
- 1:42Speaker 8: Movie Geek.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Cappuccino my butt. I still drink coffee.
- 1:46Speaker 9: The last fucking thing you need is another cup of coffee.
- 1:50Speaker 9: It's time for The Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 1:53Speaker 8: And finally, I have something different to say at this point.
- 1:55Speaker 8: We are coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:58Speaker 8: Green Room Coffee and Espresso Bar here in Louisville, where
- 2:01Speaker 8: we will get together in this new, fabulous setting and
- 2:04Speaker 8: drink coffee and talk movies. So, with that, we would
- 2:08Speaker 8: like to welcome Alan. It's another Alan. I decided there's
- 2:12Speaker 8: only one. There can be only one, so you guys
- 2:15Speaker 8: are going to have to, like, decapitate one another, I suppose.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But then there'd be none. Let's decapitate one another, right?
- 2:22Speaker 8: Then we'll find another Alan. There's probably a lot of
- 2:24Speaker 8: Alans out there.
- 2:24Speaker 11: All right.
- 2:26Speaker 8: If you're an Alan out there and you want to
- 2:27Speaker 8: get in the running of decapitations, email in. But I
- 2:33Speaker 8: decided one's an E and one's an A, so maybe
- 2:35Speaker 8: you guys are safe. That's an entirely different name.
- 2:38Speaker 9: Different, differentiate Alan and Alen.
- 2:41Speaker 8: Okay, different origins.
- 2:43Speaker 9: You what?
- 2:43Speaker 2: I think they're different origins, linguistically.
- 2:46Speaker 8: I thought you guys were different origins. I thought you
- 2:49Speaker 8: were going to go into your origin story now. We're
- 2:52Speaker 8: going to have like a flashback.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He would take on by a radioactive spider.
- 2:56Speaker 8: He came from another planet, but when he got here,
- 2:59Speaker 8: he had special coffee powers that only the yellow sun
- 3:02Speaker 8: brings out. That having been said, Alan is from Green
- 3:08Speaker 8: Room Coffee here, and actually got a hold of me
- 3:10Speaker 8: and said, hey, you guys want to record an episode here? So, yes,
- 3:13Speaker 8: yes we would. I guess it's a little late to
- 3:15Speaker 8: tell you that, but yes, we would like to. So,
- 3:19Speaker 8: in our usual fashion, Alan, I ask you, what blend
- 3:23Speaker 8: of coffee are we drinking this week?
- 3:25Speaker 2: We're drinking Papua New Guinea.
- 3:27Speaker 12: And I've prepared it in several different ways, both with
- 3:30Speaker 12: the Chemex.
- 3:31Speaker 2: You've had some espresso drinks. And you've had the AeroPress.
- 3:35Speaker 8: We're pretty hopped up is what he's saying.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Yes.
- 3:37Speaker 2: All handcrafted.
- 3:39Speaker 8: Excellent.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I finished my cup.
- 3:43Speaker 8: Dylan, he'll just think you want more. Just calm down,
- 3:45Speaker 8: calm down. So since you graciously extended this invitation, go
- 3:50Speaker 8: ahead and tell people about the place and give your
- 3:53Speaker 8: little intro here into the world of Green Room.
- 3:56Speaker 12: Well, Green Room is inside the Music-O-Round on South Earthborn Parkway.
- 4:02Speaker 9: We do everything by hand, so no drip coffee.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That sums us up. Usually it's really loud in here.
- 4:10Speaker 12: You have to be determined to come get a cup.
- 4:14Speaker 2: But it's always usually really good.
- 4:17Speaker 8: Yeah, I would imagine between... They're selling musical instruments in
- 4:21Speaker 8: here in the other half of this building, so between
- 4:24Speaker 8: you making frothy noises and banging things around over here
- 4:27Speaker 8: and people playing, like, bad smoke on the water over there,
- 4:31Speaker 8: it's got to be hell on earth. So more power
- 4:34Speaker 8: to you.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's impossible to nap.
- 4:37Speaker 13: Damn it.
- 4:37Speaker 8: That's what works all about it, isn't it? Oh, well, yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 8: Do you have any other... Do you want to do your.
- 4:46Speaker 8: Special coffee moment? Do you want your own little segment
- 4:48Speaker 8: of coffee talk?
- 4:50Speaker 9: I've had so many.
- 4:51Speaker 2: It's impossible.
- 4:52Speaker 12: Like, if I start, I'll just keep going. Suffice it
- 4:58Speaker 12: to say, I really love a good cup of coffee.
- 5:02Speaker 5: See?
- 5:02Speaker 2: And I hope you guys do, too.
- 5:04Speaker 8: Since we've built this, you know, running segment around it,
- 5:07Speaker 8: I guess we kind of do, so.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 5:11Speaker 8: All right, if that's If that rounds us out on
- 5:13Speaker 8: the coffee, I guess we will take a break, and
- 5:15Speaker 8: we will be back with the rest of this ridiculous
- 5:18Speaker 8: caffeinated show.
- 5:19Speaker 6: I really need.
- 5:20Speaker 8: Some of that.
- 5:25Speaker 14: Ooh, good coffee, strong coffee I need to have.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Some Ooh, good coffee, strong.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Coffee At our refreshment stand, your wish is our command.

- 7:52Speaker 6: Who wants to see a movie like.
- 8:00Speaker 10: The movies he grew up with are.
- 8:01Speaker 8: Sometimes a big surprise.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I at times feel uncomfortable watching movies I loved when
- 8:06Speaker 1: I was younger with my own kids because I forgot
- 8:08Speaker 1: how much cursing, sex, and violence they showed back then.
- 8:12Speaker 10: All we want to do is watch a fun movie

- 8:26Speaker 10: We review new movies.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Old childhood favorites, cult and foreign films, and Godzilla.
- 8:32Speaker 10: So check out Family Movie Night on the web at fmnpodcast.com
- 8:36Speaker 10: or find us on iTunes.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Bye!
- 8:44Speaker 17: Hi, this is Larry Blamire, also known as Dr.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Paul Armstrong, doing science for Movie Meltdown. It's part of
- 8:54Speaker 3: your problem, you know.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 8:57Speaker 5: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 9:01Speaker 16: And now, on with the show.
- 9:06Speaker 18: Blue cappuccino or double espresso.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I need something with a really big kick. You ask
- 9:16Speaker 2: me about cream. You ask me about sugar. I tell you,
- 9:21Speaker 2: those things can be sinful.
- 9:23Speaker 10: And my goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo-goo.
- 9:44Speaker 12: Have you guys seen the David Lynch cup coffee commercial?
- 9:48Speaker 2: Where he's talking to the Barbie head? That's a good commercial.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I like that commercial.
- 9:52Speaker 5: It's really cute.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And he's really good at talking to it. I like
- 9:57Speaker 2: David Lynch's Clean Up New York. PSO, too, that he did.
- 10:02Speaker 8: Lynch is pretty good on any of those.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Just give him a camera.
- 10:05Speaker 9: There's a whole new role in the movie.
- 10:06Speaker 19: Just announce everything that needs to be announced. David Lynch
- 10:16Speaker 19: announces everything.
- 10:17Speaker 8: But he has to do it as the Twin Peaks persona,
- 10:20Speaker 8: so he has to scream it the entire time. Here
- 10:23Speaker 8: are my announcements! Just the whole time.
- 10:27Speaker 14: And then he should repeat it for the hearing impaired.
- 10:30Speaker 8: Then in the corner you have Garrett Morris, here for
- 10:33Speaker 8: the hearing impaired. What David said was.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Someone still needs to finish his cookie.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Are you that concerned about my cookie? Are you one
- 10:46Speaker 1: part of my cookie?
- 10:48Speaker 10: No.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm going to save it for a break.
- 10:53Speaker 8: You wrap it up in your napkin and you put
- 10:54Speaker 8: it in your backpack.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Brian will turn this podcast around.
- 10:58Speaker 8: I will turn it right around. You kids don't settle down,
- 11:01Speaker 8: I swear to God.
- 11:02Speaker 2: I'm going to take the cookies off the table. All
- 11:04Speaker 2: the cookies off the table.
- 11:05Speaker 10: Actually, I might open one just to.
- 11:07Speaker 2: No, you can't.
- 11:08Speaker 13: Son of a bitch.
- 11:12Speaker 14: I saw Todd at the bank not long ago, and
- 11:14Speaker 14: he was just holding a cookie in his hand, and
- 11:17Speaker 14: he was like, want a cookie?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Oh, Lord. He's just like Johnny Cookie.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I don't even start carrying cookies around.
- 11:25Speaker 2: You want a cookie? I do not.
- 11:26Speaker 10: No one ever wants a cookie. It's really weird.
- 11:29Speaker 1: You'd think people would be like, fuck yeah. It's all
- 11:31Speaker 1: warm and moist from your hand.
- 11:32Speaker 2: That's what I said.
- 11:34Speaker 8: That's all I said. They're all warm and gooey. I've
- 11:37Speaker 8: had them in my pocket all day.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Gummy bears? You should have something else, you know.
- 11:43Speaker 17: Those little, like, self-serve towelettes that when you meet somebody,
- 11:45Speaker 17: it's like, here, have a towelette.
- 11:48Speaker 8: You should immediately shake their hand and then spray yourself
- 11:50Speaker 8: down with Purell and them. Whether they want it or not,
- 11:54Speaker 8: just start hosing their hand down.
- 11:55Speaker 14: I think I'll give them like those little cocktail umbrellas.
- 11:59Speaker 20: Throw those around.
- 12:00Speaker 21: Years ago, this is a good moment.
- 12:02Speaker 11: Years ago, I was walking out of a Goodwill thrift store,
- 12:04Speaker 11: and I held the door open for this elderly man.
- 12:06Speaker 21: And he said, thank you, honey. And he handed me
- 12:08Speaker 21: a little peppermint. Just seamlessly.
- 12:11Speaker 11: Just there it was to give out to anybody that
- 12:13Speaker 11: did a good deed.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I hate jealous.
- 12:14Speaker 21: And I remember him all the time saying, they're terrible,
- 12:16Speaker 21: I didn't eat it.
- 12:17Speaker 8: Well, I mean, because.
- 12:18Speaker 21: It was a nice gesture.
- 12:19Speaker 2: My mother, when I was little.
- 12:19Speaker 8: She's like, yeah, I knew it was a little laced
- 12:21Speaker 8: in strip knot.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I wasn't going to touch it.
- 12:22Speaker 8: But I thanked him anyway. I'm no idiot.
- 12:24Speaker 14: Being a horror geek, when I was little, I loved
- 12:26Speaker 14: Halloween so much. It was my favorite holiday. But every
- 12:31Speaker 14: year when I was little, my mother would go over
- 12:33Speaker 14: to her friend's house and hang out for hours. And
- 12:37Speaker 14: the only candy she ever had were those little damn peppermints.
- 12:41Speaker 14: And I was convinced they were the same ones year
- 12:43Speaker 14: after year.
- 12:44Speaker 8: Oh, they were.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Just sitting there.
- 12:45Speaker 21: Most likely.
- 12:45Speaker 2: They were. Oh, and so I hate them like that.
- 12:48Speaker 14: That sense of, I'm missing Halloween again. I can't believe this.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And there are those.
- 12:53Speaker 20: Stupid fucking peppermints.
- 12:55Speaker 2: She just steals them from the bank.
- 12:57Speaker 8: Don't we all do that?
- 13:00Speaker 1: I never understood the willpower of older people that they'll
- 13:03Speaker 1: keep a bowl of candy sitting around.
- 13:06Speaker 4: I know.
- 13:06Speaker 2: If I've got a bowl of candy, I'm eating it.
- 13:08Speaker 14: I can get my grandmother's and she has a cake
- 13:11Speaker 14: under glass.
- 13:12Speaker 2: That's where you can see it.
- 13:14Speaker 14: How do you go about your day?
- 13:16Speaker 20: There's cake.
- 13:17Speaker 8: What are you all doing?
- 13:19Speaker 2: How do you let the cake sit around? It doesn't
- 13:20Speaker 2: go bad either. We'll just look at a few days.
- 13:22Speaker 2: We'll go back to another piece.
- 13:24Speaker 14: A friend of mine had a rotating pie case in
- 13:28Speaker 14: her kitchen.
- 13:29Speaker 20: That had been her dream was to have a rotating
- 13:32Speaker 20: pie thing.
- 13:33Speaker 1: That's a wonderful life goal.
- 13:36Speaker 10: I bought a cupcake stand last week.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Oh, you bought a cupcake stand.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I never get them to the stand. I just eat
- 13:43Speaker 1: them out of the pan.
- 13:43Speaker 8: You are moving on up.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Your friend watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. She's like,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I'd like a pie stand.
- 13:50Speaker 8: And a lot of drugs.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That girl in that movie looked like she liked having
- 13:54Speaker 2: that pie on that stand.
- 13:55Speaker 8: She had a good night. All right, we are back,
- 13:57Speaker 8: and it's been quite a while, so I thought we
- 14:00Speaker 8: should break it in and do it one more time.
- 14:02Speaker 8: It's time for What's the Buzz?
- 14:04Speaker 5: Groovy.
- 14:06Speaker 8: Tell me what's happening, what's the buzz?
- 14:09Speaker 21: Tell me what's happening, what's the buzz?
- 14:11Speaker 8: Tell me what's happening, what's the buzz? And you're not
- 14:14Speaker 8: going to be any happier. I know, usually, Greg, you
- 14:16Speaker 8: think this is all about gloom and sadness and... Don't worry,
- 14:19Speaker 8: we're not disappointing this to you.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Are you telling me someone else that's in the G.I.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Joe movie that I'm not going to be happy about?
- 14:26Speaker 8: No, but I can make somebody up.
- 14:27Speaker 1: What's another one of.
- 14:28Speaker 14: Greg's favorite childhood toys going to have testicles?
- 14:32Speaker 1: Right, exactly.
- 14:35Speaker 8: Oh, they cast Hilary Duff as Scarlett or something.
- 14:38Speaker 18: Mm-hmm.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with that.
- 14:41Speaker 5: You should.
- 14:42Speaker 2: What's the deal about Hilary Duff? She's all right.
- 14:44Speaker 8: She's a running joke at this point. I thought I
- 14:46Speaker 8: would just work it into every show.
- 14:47Speaker 10: I really liked her when she was younger on the
- 14:49Speaker 10: Lizzie McGuire show.
- 14:50Speaker 2: That was a cool show.
- 14:51Speaker 8: Until she shows up on the show. We're going to
- 14:53Speaker 8: make fun of her every week until she becomes a
- 14:56Speaker 8: guest on the show.
- 14:57Speaker 2: At least somebody's talking about her.
- 14:59Speaker 14: Remember that week that you had that traumatic head injury
- 15:03Speaker 14: and I saw a Hilary Duff concert? Is that a coincidence?
- 15:08Speaker 14: In one week, you have a traumatic head injury, and
- 15:11Speaker 14: I see a Hilary Duff concert.
- 15:13Speaker 8: Isn't that crazy?
- 15:15Speaker 21: Traumatic ear injury.
- 15:17Speaker 20: Neither event could ever be explained.
- 15:19Speaker 9: Did you, like, go to the concert or get a
- 15:21Speaker 9: concert DVD?
- 15:21Speaker 2: I went to the concert.
- 15:22Speaker 8: You lucky bastard.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I went to the concert.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Your daughter wanted to go.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Your daughter.
- 15:27Speaker 8: She wanted to go.
- 15:29Speaker 2: All her friends were going.
- 15:31Speaker 14: We go, and we're there forever, and they have, like,
- 15:34Speaker 14: some opening guy who plays guitar and sings. And she's
- 15:39Speaker 14: not coming out, and they keep announcing, 20 minutes till
- 15:42Speaker 14: Hillary Duff.
- 15:45Speaker 2: 15 minutes till Hillary Duff. 10 minutes.
- 15:46Speaker 14: 20 minutes till Hillary Duff.
- 15:48Speaker 2: At this point, your Y chromosome is really starting to hurt.
- 15:51Speaker 14: Yeah, and they're pointing to the clock, you know, and
- 15:55Speaker 14: people are cheering like minutes dropping on the clock. And
- 15:59Speaker 14: I can't really remember much of anything beyond that point.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Reality sort of she never showed up yeah no she.
- 16:06Speaker 14: Did show up and she looked like really thin and
- 16:10Speaker 14: hard like you know sort of heroin yeah and i
- 16:14Speaker 14: thought is that the real hillary duff or do they
- 16:17Speaker 14: just have these people they hire or that go.
- 16:20Speaker 8: To different cities she's like santa's helper she's hillary's helper
- 16:23Speaker 8: and they just issue them to every state and you
- 16:25Speaker 8: get yourself a hillary.
- 16:27Speaker 14: Yeah kind of like Woody Allen ought to be doing
- 16:30Speaker 14: with writers. He should be hiring Woody Allen to write
- 16:33Speaker 14: his stuff now.
- 16:34Speaker 20: We all know the voice. He's apparently tired of doing it.
- 16:39Speaker 2: It wasn't Hilary Duff. It was Hilary Doof.
- 16:41Speaker 20: Hilary Doof, yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 8: She was the West German that just came down from
- 16:45Speaker 8: that mission from space. Everybody watch Creature. Anyway, so, yeah.
- 16:52Speaker 8: Has anybody seen Chronicle?
- 16:53Speaker 2: Not yet.
- 16:54Speaker 8: Yeah, that's kind of what I thought.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I haven't either.
- 16:56Speaker 8: They've greenlit a second Chronicle movie already, which is frightening.
- 17:02Speaker 8: But this is... Basically, they're talking to the director, and
- 17:06Speaker 8: after that, they're already in talks with him to do
- 17:09Speaker 8: the Venom spinoff of the Spider-Man series. What exactly? I
- 17:15Speaker 8: don't know.
- 17:16Speaker 2: With Topher Grace?
- 17:19Speaker 8: I think Topher's gone, isn't he? I thought they'd considered
- 17:21Speaker 8: those three movies dead. And they were starting with the
- 17:27Speaker 8: Amazing Spider-Man reboot.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:29Speaker 8: But they still, they make it sound like this is
- 17:31Speaker 8: totally separate. Like this is its own separate thing. I
- 17:35Speaker 8: don't know if they're planning like what everything else Marvel's
- 17:38Speaker 8: been doing and planning a crossover after both single movies
- 17:42Speaker 8: come out. You get the Spider-Man movie, you get the
- 17:44Speaker 8: Venom movie, and then somewhere in the middle there's a
- 17:46Speaker 8: big battle movie that comes out.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Six years from now. Kind of like what they're doing
- 17:49Speaker 2: with the Avengers.
- 17:50Speaker 17: It's like, you have one appetizer, now two, now four appetizers,
- 17:54Speaker 17: now you can eat the good meal.
- 17:55Speaker 2: It's like, I'm full. No, you're going to eat the
- 17:57Speaker 2: good meal.
- 17:58Speaker 8: You made me watch Thor already.
- 17:59Speaker 16: No.
- 18:00Speaker 8: I don't know. I was kind of wondering if anybody
- 18:04Speaker 8: had any thoughts on Venom.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I won't buy a ticket regardless.
- 18:09Speaker 17: As long as Christopher Lloyd plays them.
- 18:15Speaker 8: I could watch that for a couple hours. Yeah, definitely.
- 18:20Speaker 1: It's so watered down at this point.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It doesn't sound appetizing.
- 18:23Speaker 8: I mean, who knows? Again, they note that it's a
- 18:27Speaker 8: very different villain because all of the other villains that
- 18:30Speaker 8: they've used are the old school comic 60s villains. And
- 18:34Speaker 8: he's like an 80s into the 90s kind of like
- 18:37Speaker 8: new villain. So, I mean, that could change things a
- 18:40Speaker 8: little bit because it's not quite as hokey. He's a
- 18:43Speaker 8: lot more creepy and mean and vicious. So, I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 8: I guess if they're trying to do a let's Batman
- 18:51Speaker 8: it up and make this more of a grim, dark,
- 18:54Speaker 8: real world kind of existence, which I don't know if
- 18:56Speaker 8: that's what they're doing on this new Amazing Spider-Man. It
- 18:58Speaker 8: doesn't look like it. The trailer looks just like the
- 19:00Speaker 8: Tobey movies, but... Whatever.
- 19:02Speaker 17: That's the problem with all these Marvel films that are
- 19:04Speaker 17: coming out. I mean, the past decade, you've had this
- 19:06Speaker 17: Marvel boom, and they're all inherently the same. They keep
- 19:10Speaker 17: hitting on the same formula time and time again. I
- 19:12Speaker 17: wanted to get excited about Iron Man 2 or Captain America,
- 19:16Speaker 17: but watching it, I was like.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I feel like I've seen this.
- 19:18Speaker 8: Captain America was almost the one that was different, only
- 19:20Speaker 8: because it's a period piece, so it kind of made
- 19:23Speaker 8: them be a little different.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Iron Man 2... I think it was funner than Iron
- 19:28Speaker 2: Man 2.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Iron Man 2... At least the first Iron Man.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Was a decent movie.
- 19:33Speaker 8: I liked the first Iron Man.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Comparatively, yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 13: I just got confused about how he was able to
- 19:36Speaker 13: build this whole suit in the cave.
- 19:39Speaker 9: You would think they had surveillance cameras on him.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It's a comic book.
- 19:43Speaker 2: He's a genius.
- 19:44Speaker 9: Little things.
- 19:45Speaker 8: He's also got a blue light in his chest. After
- 19:48Speaker 8: a while, you're just like, whatever.
- 19:49Speaker 9: I can accept that.
- 19:50Speaker 10: That.
- 19:50Speaker 9: I just can't accept that they're not watching him every minute.
- 19:53Speaker 8: Well, they're not very good terrorists, let's put it that way.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Clearly.
- 19:56Speaker 10: I'm really, I'm definitely guilty of not being able to
- 19:59Speaker 10: accept Farfetch plots. I just, I can't do it.
- 20:03Speaker 14: I don't know, there's got to be something pretty sexy
- 20:07Speaker 14: for me to ignore it.
- 20:09Speaker 20: There's got to be something, I mean, really fun.
- 20:11Speaker 2: About it, and then I'll go, well, all right.
- 20:14Speaker 8: Venom's pretty hot, let me just say that. I like
- 20:17Speaker 8: that guy.
- 20:17Speaker 9: I get hung up on the little details.
- 20:19Speaker 13: Like, I watched Reanimator today for the first time, and
- 20:21Speaker 13: I was totally cool with the fact that, you know,
- 20:23Speaker 13: they're able to reanimate with this unspecified glowing green thing,
- 20:27Speaker 13: but the fact that the head, the disembodied head was
- 20:29Speaker 13: gasping for breath, all I could think of, that thing
- 20:30Speaker 13: doesn't have lungs.
- 20:32Speaker 8: But it doesn't know that.
- 20:33Speaker 9: And the headless body could apparently hear.
- 20:35Speaker 8: Yeah, it's still got ears.
- 20:38Speaker 14: Well, I mean, if they've got really good dialogue and
- 20:42Speaker 14: acting and it draws you in, yeah, I can suspend some.
- 20:46Speaker 20: Especially if they just put it out there.
- 20:48Speaker 14: All the stupid stuff, they just put it right out
- 20:50Speaker 14: there first, so you have to make the leap and
- 20:53Speaker 14: say you're either going to accept it or not.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 20:56Speaker 17: It's all dependent on the world that the film is
- 20:58Speaker 17: trying to create because there are some films to where
- 21:00Speaker 17: they play it for straight, they try to put it
- 21:02Speaker 17: in the real world, and it's like, then I can't
- 21:05Speaker 17: suspend disbelief if you're putting something.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Outlandish out there.
- 21:08Speaker 17: But with Reanimator, it's already tongue-in-cheek and bizarre as it is.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I absolutely loved it.
- 21:14Speaker 13: Because I felt like it was kind of supposed to
- 21:15Speaker 13: be set in the real world. So if they're going
- 21:16Speaker 13: to ask us to believe this incredible thing, just a
- 21:20Speaker 13: little bit of attention to the smaller details, I think.
- 21:22Speaker 8: It was a fun movie. Here's what makes it okay.
- 21:25Speaker 8: It was glowing green. If it was just green, all right,
- 21:29Speaker 8: you're right. But it was glowing.
- 21:31Speaker 2: It's very pretty to look at.
- 21:32Speaker 8: That makes it okay.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Science.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Doing science.
- 21:37Speaker 13: I took a screenshot on my camera of the naked
- 21:40Speaker 13: girl's body with the disembodied head next to it and
- 21:42Speaker 13: sent it to all my friends.
- 21:43Speaker 2: It was pretty great.
- 21:45Speaker 17: There's a great promotional shot that they did to where
- 21:49Speaker 17: they had the disembodied head in the pan and they
- 21:52Speaker 17: put a cigarette in his mouth.
- 21:53Speaker 2: That was like smoking is bad for you or something
- 21:55Speaker 2: like that. They did when the film came out.
- 21:56Speaker 14: They should have done this as your brain on drugs.
- 22:00Speaker 14: You're going to put a head in a pan.
- 22:01Speaker 8: You should have had it narrated by David Lynch.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I've seen that. It
- 22:08Speaker 2: was a hell.
- 22:09Speaker 9: Of a good time to watch, though. I just got
- 22:10Speaker 9: hung up on the breathing thing.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Maybe dissolved oxygen in the blood of the pan.
- 22:16Speaker 8: Maybe. Science, see? Oh, well, next up we have a...
- 22:26Speaker 8: Is it time for another motorcycle movie? I actually forwarded
- 22:29Speaker 8: this to Jay, so I'll have you know. Yeah, after
- 22:32Speaker 8: working with Chris Nolan on Inception and The Dark Knight Rises,
- 22:36Speaker 8: Tom Hardy is set to be in a new movie
- 22:38Speaker 8: where he will be the star and produce, and it's
- 22:41Speaker 8: basically a motorcycle gang movie. Hardy is a Vietnam vet
- 22:46Speaker 8: in the 60s who joins a motorcycle gang in San Francisco.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Better be late 60s. You know, like... Maybe he.
- 22:53Speaker 8: Just took off at a nom.
- 22:57Speaker 1: You know, I really liked Hardy in Bronson. I thought, wow,
- 23:03Speaker 1: this is going to be a guy that's going to
- 23:06Speaker 1: blow up. And Inception, I thought he was pretty decent at.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I even saw him as your next James Bond or
- 23:15Speaker 1: Jason Bourne kind of guy. And now he's like, whatever
- 23:18Speaker 1: that movie is.
- 23:22Speaker 8: That's what I was going to go to. He actually
- 23:23Speaker 8: has had pretty much critical success along the way with
- 23:27Speaker 8: everything he's done. And then Lucy's favorite movie came out.
- 23:31Speaker 8: This Means War.
- 23:32Speaker 21: I just think he's going downhill almost intentionally, it seems.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:43Speaker 8: It just, it mainstreams it up, you know? So it's like,
- 23:46Speaker 8: is he just trying to, you know, be successful? Cause
- 23:50Speaker 8: up to this point he'd, he'd almost like picked really small,
- 23:53Speaker 8: weird projects. So, okay. Not necessarily the Nolan stuff, but,
- 23:57Speaker 8: but up until then he'd been in a lot of
- 23:59Speaker 8: like indie movies that nobody had heard of except super
- 24:02Speaker 8: hardcore movie geeks. So it's like, Now is he just like, okay,
- 24:05Speaker 8: it's time to cash that paycheck.
- 24:07Speaker 20: He's trying to break out.
- 24:08Speaker 8: I'm making a Reese movie.
- 24:09Speaker 21: I think that's sometimes what happens, though.
- 24:11Speaker 11: Independent actors are accidentally in these movies that they don't know.
- 24:14Speaker 11: They're just taking it, and it turns out to be
- 24:16Speaker 11: good sort of by accident. And then when they have
- 24:19Speaker 11: the option of making choices, you realize that they're actually
- 24:21Speaker 11: capable of making really, really terrible choices.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Oh, that does happen a lot.
- 24:25Speaker 14: And probably more than you are aware of because you
- 24:28Speaker 14: tend to forget those people after a while.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I'm hoping that since he's producing this that you see
- 24:35Speaker 1: a little bit more of who he is and maybe
- 24:38Speaker 1: a little bit more of, like, I'm still hoping for
- 24:41Speaker 1: the guy I saw in Bronson and not, I don't know,
- 24:45Speaker 1: whatever the previews I saw for This Means War. See,
- 24:49Speaker 1: I don't even know. It's such a throwaway movie.
- 24:51Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I don't even know what it's called.
- 24:53Speaker 8: I saw that trailer at least twice, and I was like,
- 24:55Speaker 8: I still don't know what the movie is.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I know.
- 24:57Speaker 21: I was like, these men are fighting over Reese Witherspoon.
- 25:00Speaker 8: Well, first of all, that part you really don't understand.
- 25:04Speaker 8: But even then, I was like, that first time wasn't
- 25:06Speaker 8: even clear. They're supposed to be spies or whatever the
- 25:08Speaker 8: hell they are. There was just all this shenanigans going on.
- 25:11Speaker 8: I'm just like, what are they doing in this movie?
- 25:13Speaker 8: So that trailer kind of sucked, too. But I'm sure
- 25:16Speaker 8: the movie's great.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 9: The poster's pretty awful, too.
- 25:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 9: Makes me want to smash things.
- 25:24Speaker 17: It almost looks like an ad of GQ or something.
- 25:27Speaker 17: Are they advertising clothes or cologne?
- 25:30Speaker 2: I don't know what this is for.
- 25:32Speaker 8: Crossover. You can do that.
- 25:33Speaker 17: I haven't seen marketing like this since the teaser posters
- 25:36Speaker 17: for Matrix Reloaded, where it was just the body and
- 25:39Speaker 17: just the clothes.
- 25:40Speaker 2: You didn't see anything.
- 25:41Speaker 8: I really want to buy leather. I say that most days.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Right. But that's where it started.
- 25:49Speaker 8: Quite possibly. So, yeah, I don't know. I think with
- 25:52Speaker 8: that one, I mean, it has been a while. I mean,
- 25:55Speaker 8: that was like a big thing in the 60s was
- 25:58Speaker 8: that subgenre of like motorcycle gang movies. So, I mean,
- 26:02Speaker 8: most of them were kind of cheesy at the time.
- 26:04Speaker 8: But I'm wondering if there, I mean, there are enough
- 26:06Speaker 8: people who are motorcycle geeks like Jay who are probably like, okay,
- 26:10Speaker 8: I want to see a new movie like that. So
- 26:12Speaker 8: it's got potential if they actually make a decent movie
- 26:15Speaker 8: out of it.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm afraid it's going to be like a transporter kind
- 26:19Speaker 1: of movie.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Not where motorcycles are going to have testicles?
- 26:23Speaker 11: No.
- 26:24Speaker 8: Not a Transformers.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Not Transformers.
- 26:26Speaker 10: Oh.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Just, you know, the tough guy on the bike.
- 26:31Speaker 8: In a way, I can put up with that. The
- 26:33Speaker 8: first transport was pretty damn fun. But, again, with this one,
- 26:37Speaker 8: with him producing, I would hope they would do something
- 26:40Speaker 8: a little better than that.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Who's directing it, does it say?
- 26:42Speaker 17: Because, I mean, I could see somebody like Joe Dante
- 26:45Speaker 17: or Joe Johnson, somebody giving it.
- 26:47Speaker 2: You know, like an appreciative... It'll feel almost like an
- 26:51Speaker 2: homage to those films. I don't want to know.
- 26:54Speaker 8: Actually, I don't even think it has a director set,
- 26:56Speaker 8: but it says it was written by Mark L. Smith,
- 27:00Speaker 8: who did the whole vacancy and vacancy to the first cut. Wow.
- 27:05Speaker 8: So there you go. Well, that's the end of that, then.
- 27:10Speaker 8: It's going to be great, is what you're saying.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It's not going to be Joe Dante, is what you're saying.
- 27:16Speaker 20: It does seem like nobody's doing that.
- 27:19Speaker 8: Motorcycle movies?
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 8: I think it's got potential if they do something kind
- 27:23Speaker 8: of cool that appeals to that crowd, but maybe, again... Well,
- 27:27Speaker 8: you're going to have.
- 27:28Speaker 2: To try to appeal to a few other people somewhere.
- 27:31Speaker 8: Not necessarily. I see a lot of movies that come out,
- 27:34Speaker 8: and I'm like, I don't know who that's supposed to
- 27:35Speaker 8: appeal to.
- 27:36Speaker 10: Have you ever been outside on a warm, sunny day?
- 27:39Speaker 10: There's a lot of douches that ride motorcycles.
- 27:41Speaker 8: Lots. There's a dude that was starting his scooter up
- 27:45Speaker 8: this morning below my window.
- 27:47Speaker 14: I don't mind that, but the ones that just don't
- 27:49Speaker 14: believe in mufflers, they're going to have to die.
- 27:54Speaker 2: That's just not civilized.
- 27:56Speaker 21: They also don't believe in helmets, those guys.
- 27:58Speaker 8: So that won't take long. Just guys on scooters, I
- 28:02Speaker 8: think that's so funny.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I once resuscitated and saved the life of a man
- 28:07Speaker 1: that wouldn't wear a helmet.
- 28:09Speaker 8: Way to go.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I hope.
- 28:14Speaker 8: You're pleased with yourself.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And this was actually in the Grand Canyon. Like, not
- 28:19Speaker 1: in the Grand Canyon.
- 28:20Speaker 14: So was he trying to jump on the road around?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah, his name was Evil Knievel.
- 28:26Speaker 8: You better have saved that man.
- 28:28Speaker 1: He's a hero. I found out later from his wife
- 28:30Speaker 1: after he rehabbed and everything and they fixed his bike.
- 28:34Speaker 1: He drove back across country. He's from North Carolina. Without
- 28:38Speaker 1: a helmet.
- 28:38Speaker 8: You assholes.
- 28:41Speaker 21: When you taught him it was okay.
- 28:43Speaker 8: As long as somebody saves me, whatever.
- 28:45Speaker 1: He was hit by an RV and thrown 50 feet.
- 28:49Speaker 1: It was something to see.
- 28:51Speaker 2: So why were you driving so fast in your RV?
- 28:53Speaker 8: I was trying to catch up to that motorcycle.
- 28:55Speaker 1: He refused to have a muffler.
- 28:57Speaker 8: Alright, if we're done talking about running over motorcycle people.
- 29:05Speaker 14: Actually, my cousin's are motorcycle guys in North Carolina. And
- 29:11Speaker 14: part of the reason I enjoyed Tucker and Dale so
- 29:15Speaker 14: much is because they're just like those guys.
- 29:17Speaker 2: They look scary as hell, and they are the sweetest.
- 29:20Speaker 20: Guys in the world. They're just so nice.
- 29:25Speaker 14: So, yeah, they will be anticipating the motorcycle movie.
- 29:30Speaker 8: That's the thing. If you... Run into people out there.
- 29:33Speaker 8: A lot of the people who are real motorcycle guys
- 29:36Speaker 8: who are hardcore are actually really cool and really down
- 29:39Speaker 8: to earth. It's the douches that have picked it up
- 29:42Speaker 8: in the last year and buy whatever new shiny thing
- 29:46Speaker 8: they have just to make them look cool. Those guys, totally.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I think I've.
- 29:50Speaker 14: Actually seen behavioral studies that show that motorcycle types really
- 29:56Speaker 14: are the nicest people you run into.
- 30:00Speaker 20: You can test it. Executives are the opposite.
- 30:03Speaker 8: I can't argue with that.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And they're probably polar opposites by.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah, lifestyle, too.
- 30:11Speaker 17: But executives are the ones making the decision to have
- 30:14Speaker 17: a motorcycle movie, see it all over.
- 30:19Speaker 10: And actually, like, there's some documentary I watched about Sturgis once.
- 30:24Speaker 10: I don't know why I watched it. But they say, like,
- 30:27Speaker 10: A large percentage of people who have motorcycles are actually
- 30:30Speaker 10: like the wealthiest people. So they probably are executives and
- 30:35Speaker 10: they're probably assholes at their day job. But when they
- 30:37Speaker 10: get on the motorcycle, they're nice. It's like the balance
- 30:39Speaker 10: of their life.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Like Batman. Yes, exactly.
- 30:42Speaker 8: I have a secret identity. I'm not a douche when
- 30:44Speaker 8: I take this suit off.
- 30:48Speaker 10: We all know that's not true.
- 30:49Speaker 8: That's not true at all. So speaking of executives, I'm
- 30:53Speaker 8: sure this is entirely due to executives. Journey 2, The
- 30:57Speaker 8: Mysterious Island. Okay. I mean, it looks like the kind
- 31:02Speaker 8: of thing that would make money. Has earned over $ 270
- 31:06Speaker 8: million worldwide in a month.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I've not heard anybody talk about it.
- 31:12Speaker 8: No, I haven't either. And $ 270 million.
- 31:16Speaker 9: I saw the trailer and I promptly decided to forget
- 31:18Speaker 9: about it.
- 31:18Speaker 8: Well, it's got The Rock in it. I'm not going
- 31:21Speaker 8: to argue.
- 31:21Speaker 2: It's mostly overseas.
- 31:23Speaker 11: Right.
- 31:23Speaker 9: In the... In the trailer.
- 31:25Speaker 8: I watched The Rock ride in the big B or
- 31:27Speaker 8: whatever the hell he's doing.
- 31:28Speaker 17: Thankfully, we passed on it, and I had a customer
- 31:30Speaker 17: just come in, and she was like, do you have
- 31:33Speaker 17: Journey 2?
- 31:33Speaker 2: I said, oh, the Journey to the Center of the
- 31:35Speaker 2: Earth sequel? No, Journey 2.
- 31:36Speaker 17: I was like, that's the sequel to Journey to the
- 31:38Speaker 17: Center of the Earth. No, it's just called Journey 2.
- 31:41Speaker 17: I was like, no, we don't have it.
- 31:44Speaker 8: But agree with me, it's called Journey 2. Fighting with
- 31:48Speaker 8: an old lady.
- 31:49Speaker 2: No, we saved on the budget by not having as
- 31:51Speaker 2: many words in the title.
- 31:53Speaker 5: It's just.
- 31:54Speaker 8: We're only picking one-word movies from this point on. So, yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 8: the big surprise, New Line Cinema is starting development on
- 32:02Speaker 8: a third Journey movie.
- 32:06Speaker 2: So, yeah, this one, let's see. Journey 3.
- 32:10Speaker 8: It is Journey 3.
- 32:11Speaker 2: It'll just be J3. Just got to keep cutting it down.
- 32:13Speaker 10: It's going to be Journey 3D.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Colon confuse old ladies.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Actually, you probably have a very valid point. It's going
- 32:20Speaker 2: to be just Journey 3D.
- 32:22Speaker 8: Journey 3D.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Oh, well, yeah.
- 32:24Speaker 9: There's a second one.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Hex in 3D.
- 32:26Speaker 2: We're going to journey.
- 32:27Speaker 9: Into the third.
- 32:28Speaker 10: I still live in a world where all movies aren't
- 32:32Speaker 10: 3D because I don't get out very much, I guess.
- 32:35Speaker 9: I heard about this thing. I don't know if it's true,
- 32:36Speaker 9: so maybe somebody can corroborate this. It's like 2D glasses.
- 32:39Speaker 9: So if you go see a 3D movie, you.
- 32:41Speaker 8: Can put on 2D glasses. I saw those online and
- 32:45Speaker 8: I emailed them. I was like, hey, if you want
- 32:47Speaker 8: to push them on this show, go for it. Because
- 32:49Speaker 8: we talk smack about 3D all the time.
- 32:50Speaker 10: It gives me a headache.
- 32:52Speaker 9: Most places you can see 2D instead of 3D, right?
- 32:55Speaker 8: Not always.
- 32:57Speaker 17: It depends on how many prints you have. Studios have
- 33:00Speaker 17: now made it to where if you can show 3D...
- 33:04Speaker 17: you have to show 3D if you want to show
- 33:06Speaker 17: the film. If you don't want to show 3D, then
- 33:08Speaker 17: you can either do one of two things. You can
- 33:10Speaker 17: book two prints of the film so you can play
- 33:12Speaker 17: 3D and not 3D, or you can just wait two
- 33:15Speaker 17: weeks until you're done showing in 3D.
- 33:17Speaker 2: And then show it in 2D. Those are the two
- 33:18Speaker 2: options they give you now. Cinematic extortion to make 3D work.
- 33:23Speaker 2: 3D or not 3D.
- 33:25Speaker 20: It's all a scam question.
- 33:28Speaker 8: So, yeah, this one they say, we're going to go
- 33:31Speaker 8: to a completely different world. They're basically taking two different
- 33:36Speaker 8: Jules Verne's books. They're taking From the Earth to the
- 33:39Speaker 8: Moon and Off on a Comet. And they say, of course,
- 33:42Speaker 8: the problem is in the 130 years since he wrote those,
- 33:45Speaker 8: we've found that it's kind of not so hospitable on
- 33:48Speaker 8: both the moon and a comet. So they're going to
- 33:52Speaker 8: have to work around that a little bit. snag.
- 33:54Speaker 9: That sounds like some board watching.
- 33:57Speaker 17: It wouldn't be too hard for him to go to
- 33:59Speaker 17: the center of the earth because Jules Verne would be
- 34:00Speaker 17: spinning so much in his grave.
- 34:02Speaker 2: He'd make a nice tunnel.
- 34:03Speaker 8: Just follow him. Everybody behind Jules Verne, come on. Pile
- 34:08Speaker 8: on the casket.
- 34:10Speaker 14: If anybody remembers, that was the guy who had preceded them.
- 34:15Speaker 14: He had put his initials down there.
- 34:19Speaker 8: You're not supposed to write in the caves. They told you.
- 34:22Speaker 8: You're also not supposed to touch the stalactites. You get yelled.
- 34:26Speaker 2: At for that. They look so delicious.
- 34:29Speaker 9: Sometimes they're all milky like ice cream.
- 34:31Speaker 8: They got mad when I licked that one.
- 34:33Speaker 9: How did it taste?
- 34:35Speaker 5: Salty.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Where are we?
- 34:41Speaker 8: Don't worry. Negotiations are underway to get Dwayne, not the
- 34:47Speaker 8: Rock Johnson back. God help us. We wouldn't want to
- 34:50Speaker 8: do this without The Rock.
- 34:52Speaker 20: The Rock, formerly known as The Rock.
- 34:54Speaker 17: Yeah, he's got such high standards. It's really going to
- 34:56Speaker 17: be a push to get him to be.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Is he no longer The Rock?
- 34:59Speaker 8: I don't think.
- 35:00Speaker 7: Well, no.
- 35:01Speaker 8: From what I heard, he's now back doing wrestling, too. Luckily,
- 35:06Speaker 8: I was told this and didn't have to learn it firsthand. So, yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 8: someone I know actually watches wrestling and continues to give
- 35:12Speaker 8: me updates whether I want to hear him or not.
- 35:13Speaker 17: Isn't he like 60 now or something?
- 35:15Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I don't think he's that old.
- 35:17Speaker 10: Isn't he gay? Didn't he come out as gay?
- 35:19Speaker 9: Wrestlers can't be gay.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I mean... I don't know.
- 35:22Speaker 8: I'm not his press person. You tell me.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I kind of assumed it was a given.
- 35:26Speaker 1: If you're going to oil up another man with muscles
- 35:32Speaker 1: and shave each other.
- 35:34Speaker 8: Whatever. That dude looks good without a shirt on, okay?
- 35:37Speaker 8: I can do worse than that.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I haven't watched it in a while.
- 35:41Speaker 14: I think last time I saw it, it was Tocho
- 35:44Speaker 14: Yamamoto and Cherry Cherry.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Different when I was a kid.
- 35:47Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Nobody wanted to wrestle Andre the Giant.
- 35:51Speaker 8: Because he would kill you. Oh, wow. So, yeah, I
- 35:57Speaker 8: don't know. I just thought that was good to know
- 35:59Speaker 8: there's Journey 3 coming at you. Huh. These aren't going
- 36:04Speaker 8: to get any better, I'm telling you.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Wow, that was the highlight.
- 36:10Speaker 8: Hey, I saw that trailer this weekend, and all you
- 36:13Speaker 8: need to know is if you put that Manson cover
- 36:16Speaker 8: song in your trailer, it makes your movie look awesome.
- 36:19Speaker 8: They're banking it. That music kicks in, and I was
- 36:21Speaker 8: just like, well, you sold half the people that just
- 36:24Speaker 8: think this is cool now.
- 36:25Speaker 10: I didn't really understand the correlation between the song and
- 36:30Speaker 10: It didn't have.
- 36:31Speaker 8: It makes it look awesome. What are you talking about?
- 36:33Speaker 9: I haven't seen the trailer.
- 36:34Speaker 10: Sweet dreams.
- 36:35Speaker 8: Yeah, the Marilyn Manson cover. That's not going to make
- 36:36Speaker 8: anything awesome. Yeah, so... It seemed.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Like there was.
- 36:40Speaker 1: They're setting it up that there is no acting in
- 36:42Speaker 1: the movie. It's just stuff breaking and giant.
- 36:45Speaker 2: It's got CGI.
- 36:45Speaker 8: You don't need that.
- 36:46Speaker 17: But it's not even decent CGI. It's like Sci-Fi Channel
- 36:49Speaker 17: presents Roman mythology.
- 36:52Speaker 8: Yeah, but those are popular.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Like maybe 70% of it's going to be blurry because
- 36:56Speaker 1: they're panning while they're... It just looked... Well, we've got
- 36:59Speaker 1: to get it out in a hurry.
- 37:00Speaker 8: I mean, come on.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Is it in 3D?
- 37:02Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 11: Oh, yes.
- 37:05Speaker 10: I think I'd rather watch, like, Joseph Campbell and Bill
- 37:07Speaker 10: Moyers talk instead of this. Like, if I need to
- 37:11Speaker 10: be exposed to mythology.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Nerd. Right.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I just watched the original Clash of the Titans and
- 37:17Speaker 1: be happy.
- 37:18Speaker 8: Well, that's true. That's actually a good movie. In my mind,
- 37:21Speaker 8: but I'm sure executives would disagree.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I want to see a Harryhausen film shot in 3D.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Just kidding.
- 37:29Speaker 17: It's like Harryhausen, you're 95, it doesn't matter. Get out
- 37:31Speaker 17: there and make something to shoot in 3D.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Don't look down for that.
- 37:37Speaker 10: Like a cute ringtone.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Is there a giant cricket in here?
- 37:42Speaker 9: It's like surround.
- 37:43Speaker 2: There's like four phones going.
- 37:44Speaker 8: Off at once.
- 37:48Speaker 2: So I might interject something. I haven't had, like, I
- 37:51Speaker 2: don't watch.
- 37:53Speaker 8: many movies, like obviously not as many as you guys
- 37:55Speaker 8: just listening.
- 37:58Speaker 12: I never see new movies, but there's this thing that
- 38:00Speaker 12: I read about that basically made me stop really even
- 38:03Speaker 12: caring about watching big titles anymore. But how they're like writing,
- 38:07Speaker 12: because you mentioned international success of Journey or whatever. And
- 38:12Speaker 12: they write movies now and make them all together so
- 38:15Speaker 12: that they're really easy to translate.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And sell internationally. And that was the thing I heard.
- 38:20Speaker 12: I was like, well, they're never going to be good again,
- 38:22Speaker 12: at least not until there's like one language.
- 38:25Speaker 8: Which I've been pushing for for years. I'm tired of
- 38:28Speaker 8: this learning other languages nonsense. Just pick one and go
- 38:31Speaker 8: with it.
- 38:32Speaker 9: Which one?
- 38:33Speaker 2: I don't really know.
- 38:33Speaker 8: I go for English.
- 38:34Speaker 2: We got more words.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I don't really know what was.
- 38:36Speaker 10: Going on this morning, but like the Sunday morning news
- 38:39Speaker 10: thing with the guy in the bow tie. I don't
- 38:41Speaker 10: remember what it's called.
- 38:42Speaker 1: That's Sunday morning.
- 38:43Speaker 2: CBS Sunday morning.
- 38:44Speaker 14: Sunday morning with the guy in the bow tie.
- 38:46Speaker 17: That's what it says on the title.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Is he dead yet?
- 38:51Speaker 10: It was on mute, and I wasn't really paying attention,
- 38:53Speaker 10: but they were showing these popular American films next to
- 38:57Speaker 10: Asian films that were exactly the same. It was like
- 39:00Speaker 10: Valentine's Day, and it was like the exact same box.
- 39:04Speaker 8: Chinese Valentine's Day.
- 39:06Speaker 10: Yeah, it was interesting.
- 39:09Speaker 14: Who is the guy, the little funny looking guy in
- 39:13Speaker 14: Deuce Bigelow? What's that guy's name?
- 39:15Speaker 1: Rob Schneider.
- 39:17Speaker 14: I want to see a movie where he is like
- 39:19Speaker 14: the alter ego. He's the mild-mannered guy and he becomes
- 39:23Speaker 14: the rock.
- 39:25Speaker 8: Don't pitch this. It'll happen.
- 39:26Speaker 21: It's going to be out in two weeks.
- 39:28Speaker 17: There's almost like a South Park parody here anyway, because
- 39:31Speaker 17: they did a ton of those, you know, Rob Schneider.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Is the carrot. Rob Schneider is the stapler.
- 39:37Speaker 14: Because he looks like if you inflated him, he would
- 39:39Speaker 14: become that guy.
- 39:40Speaker 8: No, he doesn't.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You could do a non-Green Hulk.
- 39:44Speaker 2: What's in your coffee that you're coming up with?
- 39:46Speaker 8: I saw him pouring something in there.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Rob Schneider has a reality show coming out.
- 39:51Speaker 8: He has his own sitcom now, too.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Is it a sitcom?
- 39:54Speaker 8: Well, there's a sitcom. It's a sitcom that's really close
- 39:58Speaker 8: to his life. I didn't know he existed.
- 40:01Speaker 1: The thing is, I saw them promoting it, and Cheech
- 40:05Speaker 1: Marin is on the show. He marries into a Latin
- 40:11Speaker 1: American family. They might be Puerto Rican or something. and
- 40:15Speaker 1: it's Cheech Marin, not Cheech Marin. And I thought, okay,
- 40:18Speaker 1: they totally sold this out by changing his name. He's
- 40:23Speaker 1: been Cheech Marin for 40 years.
- 40:25Speaker 8: Once again, we're Americans. We don't care about that. Say
- 40:27Speaker 8: it the way we like.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I thought, this is horrible.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Anyway. Who's the heavy kid from Superbad? Jonah Hill.
- 40:38Speaker 8: He's not so heavy these days.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 20: Yeah, I want to see him as Fat Dylan.
- 40:44Speaker 9: Who's Fat Dylan?
- 40:45Speaker 2: Bob Dylan.
- 40:46Speaker 11: Fat.
- 40:47Speaker 13: Oh!
- 40:47Speaker 2: I was looking at his face.
- 40:49Speaker 8: I thought we were doing a 90210 reboot. Hold on.
- 40:53Speaker 14: His face, he looks like Dylan with some extra pounds.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I think we're going to have to cut you off.
- 41:00Speaker 8: Wow, this is early on. Usually it takes a while.
- 41:03Speaker 1: This is Fred takes acid and pitches movies.
- 41:06Speaker 2: You know what though, I could see that.
- 41:09Speaker 8: The thing is, why are you sitting here? Why aren't
- 41:11Speaker 8: you across from an executive right now? Because they would
- 41:14Speaker 8: be throwing.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Money at you.
- 41:16Speaker 2: No, no, no. Hilary Duff. I saw her in concert.
- 41:19Speaker 22: She looked just like Twiggy.
- 41:22Speaker 20: A million dollar baby. Hilary Duff is Hilary Swank.
- 41:30Speaker 8: The Hillary story.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I'm always like that.
- 41:32Speaker 17: Just take every movie with Jonathan Rhys-Davies and every movie
- 41:36Speaker 17: with Jonathan Rhys-Myers.
- 41:37Speaker 9: Just flip-flop.
- 41:38Speaker 8: See, I couldn't keep them straight for the longest time.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I thought they were the same person.
- 41:43Speaker 8: People kept talking about the new guy, and I was like,
- 41:46Speaker 8: you think Sala's hot? And I was just like, I mean,
- 41:49Speaker 8: I guess. You know, whatever you're into. What are the
- 41:51Speaker 8: two movies you confused?
- 41:53Speaker 2: Mystery.
- 41:55Speaker 14: What was it?
- 41:56Speaker 20: Oh, what is the prison movie?
- 41:57Speaker 21: Midnight Express and Midnight Run.
- 41:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 41:59Speaker 8: They're almost the same. For years, I couldn't.
- 42:01Speaker 21: Figure out why people thought that Midnight Run was so violent.
- 42:06Speaker 8: Well, there's that dog that traps him in the shower.
- 42:09Speaker 8: That's a scary scene. I mean, it's like Cujo, man.
- 42:11Speaker 14: Yeah, I love that experience when you completely misunderstand a
- 42:17Speaker 14: situation and people are talking. It's not really making sense.
- 42:21Speaker 14: But then it really starts to not make sense. And
- 42:24Speaker 14: then at some point, just the whole construct comes apart.
- 42:27Speaker 20: You just can't sustain it anymore.
- 42:29Speaker 2: See, I sympathize.
- 42:30Speaker 1: It is the same thing.
- 42:31Speaker 17: I constantly get Al Roker and Timothy Dalton mixed up.
- 42:33Speaker 17: Because I'm sitting there watching the weather. I was like,
- 42:35Speaker 17: he was so.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Much better when he was in The Rocketeer. I don't
- 42:37Speaker 2: know why he's just doing weather.
- 42:41Speaker 8: First of all, who's talking about Timothy Dalton? Al Roker, sure.
- 42:47Speaker 8: That guy's great. But, I mean, who the hell remembers
- 42:50Speaker 8: who Timothy Dalton was?
- 42:52Speaker 2: I love him when he delivers the weather.
- 42:54Speaker 8: I would like to see that, actually. That would bring
- 42:57Speaker 8: him back. That would reignite his career. Let's get on that. See,
- 43:00Speaker 8: once again, we just need to be in charge. We're producers.
- 43:03Speaker 8: We need to get this going. Okay, let's really bring
- 43:07Speaker 8: things down.
- 43:07Speaker 17: Yeah, before Fred actually is like, you know, actually, Timothy
- 43:10Speaker 17: Dalton looks like the rock, but all the.
- 43:14Speaker 11: I've actually always felt a certain tenderness for Rob Schneider
- 43:17Speaker 11: because I feel like Adam Sandler believes in him so much.
- 43:19Speaker 11: There's got to be something really good about him deep inside.
- 43:22Speaker 11: It's like in Noah Baumbach movie where the characters are
- 43:24Speaker 11: terrible but the other characters care about those characters so
- 43:27Speaker 11: much that you kind of want good things for them.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Adam Sandler's just at the back of every Rob Schneider
- 43:31Speaker 2: premiere and he's just like... He tries. He really does try.
- 43:34Speaker 9: So you trust Adam Sandler's instincts?
- 43:36Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 43:37Speaker 11: You have to have admiration for that sort of just
- 43:39Speaker 11: blind devotion.
- 43:41Speaker 21: That's all.
- 43:42Speaker 2: He's got something on him.
- 43:44Speaker 1: That might be it.
- 43:45Speaker 21: That's a much more cynical thing.
- 43:47Speaker 8: That might be it.
- 43:48Speaker 10: Hey, when I was like 11 years old, I loved
- 43:50Speaker 10: Deuce Bigelow, Mel Chilow.
- 43:52Speaker 8: Because you thought he was hot.
- 43:57Speaker 1: My wife described a person to me the other day
- 43:59Speaker 1: that She goes, you know the one woman that's the
- 44:03Speaker 1: man in Reduce Bigelow Male Bigelow, the large black man woman?
- 44:08Speaker 1: I said, yeah.
- 44:09Speaker 2: She goes.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Looks just like him. I'm like, oh. You know, it's
- 44:12Speaker 1: just like you.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Pick the, you know.
- 44:15Speaker 8: There's the reference you want being used about you.
- 44:17Speaker 10: Right.
- 44:18Speaker 8: You know, looks just like him.
- 44:20Speaker 1: This is someone I was going to meet in five minutes.
- 44:22Speaker 1: And you're like, you're setting me up for the wrong thing.
- 44:25Speaker 1: You know, I do that a lot.
- 44:27Speaker 23: Like we were around Halloween. We were out for a
- 44:32Speaker 23: walk and we're walking past this window and they had
- 44:35Speaker 23: put out like little Halloween decorations of tombstones. that said born, died,
- 44:40Speaker 23: and we stop and we read them because we're looking
- 44:44Speaker 23: for a joke.
- 44:45Speaker 20: But there's no joke.
- 44:46Speaker 2: It's just random names of people who died.
- 44:49Speaker 14: And then we look up, and there's a big picture
- 44:52Speaker 14: window in the house, and there are these two hipsters
- 44:54Speaker 14: laughing at us. They're just sitting there on a couch
- 44:59Speaker 14: facing the window. And one of them, look, he was
- 45:02Speaker 14: like right between Garth from Wayne's World and the guy
- 45:07Speaker 14: who looks like Garth on The X-Files. That was exactly
- 45:12Speaker 14: what he looked like. Yeah, the smoking gun guys. And
- 45:16Speaker 14: I forget who she looked.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Oh, she looked like the girl.
- 45:20Speaker 20: On Parks and Rec. The secretary, the.
- 45:26Speaker 8: The one that's her best friend slash go-to right-hand girl?
- 45:30Speaker 10: No.
- 45:30Speaker 8: Not her?
- 45:31Speaker 2: No, the funny one.
- 45:34Speaker 20: Well, they have the one girl I kind of.
- 45:36Speaker 8: Like who's always in a bad mood and she drinks.
- 45:38Speaker 20: Yeah, I do like her.
- 45:40Speaker 8: She's awesome.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I like her too. She's awesome.
- 45:43Speaker 14: That's who we look up and we see.
- 45:47Speaker 20: Actually, Garth was starting to fall.
- 45:49Speaker 14: Off by the time we looked up.
- 45:53Speaker 2: He was tipping over. You move the headstones, but you
- 45:56Speaker 2: didn't move the bodies.
- 45:57Speaker 13: Why?
- 45:59Speaker 1: You knew they were hipsters because it was ironically funny
- 46:01Speaker 1: that you couldn't find the humor.
- 46:03Speaker 8: Yeah, there was no joke there.
- 46:04Speaker 20: And they're laughing at us. We're the joke.
- 46:07Speaker 10: See, people make fun of hipsters, but their humor just
- 46:10Speaker 10: keeps getting more and more sophisticated.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Oh, man, we've got.
- 46:13Speaker 20: Hipsters moved in like two doors down from us now.
- 46:15Speaker 2: They won't stop listening to Wes Anderson soundtracks. We've got hipsters.
- 46:21Speaker 1: You know, the neighborhood's going to shit.
- 46:23Speaker 14: Because we've got hipsters.
- 46:24Speaker 8: Well, it's all down to hell now. They've just moved in.
- 46:26Speaker 20: And my daughter said they've been there for a while.
- 46:29Speaker 2: No, those are the hippies.
- 46:30Speaker 8: They live next door. The hippies live next door.
- 46:33Speaker 14: And they've got, like, the mystery machine set up in
- 46:35Speaker 14: the backyard now.
- 46:37Speaker 20: They're cleaning that out.
- 46:38Speaker 14: And there are hula hoops on the front of their
- 46:39Speaker 14: little van for some reason. But the hipsters have, like,
- 46:44Speaker 14: a balcony they've just built up there.
- 46:47Speaker 8: And I went out the other night and I heard them.
- 46:49Speaker 10: With PBR cans?
- 46:49Speaker 14: They were loudly talking about something that used to be
- 46:53Speaker 14: cool but wasn't anymore.
- 46:55Speaker 20: And that's hipster talk.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 46:58Speaker 8: So then, during.
- 46:59Speaker 14: The daytime, I see one of the women walking down
- 47:02Speaker 14: the street.
- 47:02Speaker 20: Here, let me help you with that. And she's got
- 47:04Speaker 20: the pointy glasses.
- 47:06Speaker 2: No, this is not going to help our property.
- 47:09Speaker 10: Not in my neighborhood.
- 47:10Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Where was this?
- 47:12Speaker 10: Dish?
- 47:13Speaker 2: It's around Lynn's Paradise.
- 47:15Speaker 17: So basically, if you live between hippies and hipsters, you're
- 47:18Speaker 17: like in this weird time warp right now.
- 47:20Speaker 14: Yeah, and on the other side, we've got the guy
- 47:22Speaker 14: who's like a hired killer.
- 47:25Speaker 8: I'd much prefer living next to him.
- 47:27Speaker 10: You've got the skinhead, and then on the other side,
- 47:30Speaker 10: you've got like the.
- 47:31Speaker 14: Well, down on the end, we've got the biker who
- 47:34Speaker 14: has a garage and a parking lot behind it, so
- 47:37Speaker 14: it's like an amplifier.
- 47:39Speaker 20: So he'll just go out when he's upset.
- 47:41Speaker 2: He'll go out and rev his bike.
- 47:43Speaker 14: And it just echoes around the world.
- 47:46Speaker 8: And he knows that. And that's why he puts it there.
- 47:48Speaker 14: That's why I was going to bed one night and
- 47:51Speaker 14: I got in a fight.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I just want to ask you where you live. And
- 47:54Speaker 2: you're like, I live in stereotype estates.
- 47:56Speaker 8: I do.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I live in a little gated community.
- 48:00Speaker 8: I'm the white guy in stereotypes.
- 48:02Speaker 1: If you don't fall into a category, you're not allowed here.
- 48:06Speaker 2: So you're like Tom Hanks from The Burbs at this point.
- 48:09Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Well, no.
- 48:10Speaker 8: You might be a little more of a Corey because
- 48:11Speaker 8: you just like watching them all.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Going back to the topic earlier, you could almost look
- 48:15Speaker 2: like Tom Hanks. We did this and this.
- 48:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 14: Well, actually, I'm not wearing the cast now, but I've
- 48:21Speaker 14: got a broken leg, and I just sit at the
- 48:23Speaker 14: window and watch all day.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Like in Disturbia. That was a great original movie.
- 48:30Speaker 10: For some reason, this morning, I had the TV on
- 48:33Speaker 10: this local televangelist program, and this guy that was preaching
- 48:38Speaker 10: looked just like Shia. What's his face? Really?
- 48:41Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 48:43Speaker 14: So Shia could play him in the biopic.
- 48:48Speaker 10: He even had a plaid shirt with a vest over
- 48:50Speaker 10: it and the hair. And I was just like, who
- 48:52Speaker 10: does this guy think he is?
- 48:53Speaker 2: He was a hipster preacher.
- 48:54Speaker 9: He was.
- 48:56Speaker 1: He loved Lizzie McGuire. No, that wasn't Lizzie McGuire. That
- 48:58Speaker 1: was even Steven.
- 48:59Speaker 10: He was trying to make Jesus cool.
- 49:01Speaker 8: He ironically likes God.
- 49:06Speaker 2: He was into God before God was cool. There you go.
- 49:09Speaker 8: I like God.
- 49:11Speaker 13: You know, the hipster Christians actually call themselves Christ followers
- 49:14Speaker 13: so as to differentiate themselves from the snooty, uptight Christians.
- 49:18Speaker 17: Really?
- 49:18Speaker 9: Because there's a big difference there, right?
- 49:19Speaker 14: Because back in the day, they were just Jesus freaks.
- 49:23Speaker 14: They were the, like, non-uptight Christian. They were, like, the hippie,
- 49:28Speaker 14: you know.
- 49:29Speaker 10: I thought then it became this, like, weird thing that
- 49:32Speaker 10: doesn't even flow. It's not even a good name. The
- 49:35Speaker 10: not-a-fan people.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I'm not a fan.
- 49:37Speaker 10: Not a fan. Like, I'm not a fan of Christ.
- 49:40Speaker 10: I'm a true believer. That was, like, their thing. But that's, like,
- 49:43Speaker 10: we're the not a fan people. Like, it's just confusing.
- 49:46Speaker 10: Your message is confusing.
- 49:48Speaker 8: It doesn't have a ring. It sounds like a tribe.
- 49:50Speaker 2: It sounds like nada.
- 49:51Speaker 14: It sounds like they're nihilists or something.
- 49:54Speaker 10: Yeah. And, I mean, it gets atheists on board. They're like,
- 49:57Speaker 10: I'm not either.
- 49:58Speaker 14: Cool.
- 49:58Speaker 10: And they're like, no, that's not what I'm saying.
- 50:01Speaker 8: Scare that guy.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, maybe they're just trying to get
- 50:04Speaker 1: atheists in.
- 50:05Speaker 8: That's not what I have. Speaking of proof that there's
- 50:09Speaker 8: no God.
- 50:10Speaker 2: This is all your fault because you brought up Journey 3.
- 50:13Speaker 8: It's getting worse. They're making a sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh, good.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Do you know how bad that is? I can be
- 50:19Speaker 1: the resident expert on children's films because I've seen all
- 50:22Speaker 1: of them. All of them.
- 50:24Speaker 2: All of them. All of them.
- 50:25Speaker 10: My niece couldn't even get into it.
- 50:28Speaker 1: It looks horrible. Usually they give the parents some sort
- 50:33Speaker 1: of reference story. I thought with Gnomeo and Juliet you
- 50:36Speaker 1: were going to get some Shakespeare stuff thrown in.
- 50:38Speaker 2: No. It's stupid.
- 50:42Speaker 17: Technically, wasn't it nominated for a Golden Globe?
- 50:45Speaker 1: Because there's nothing else to it.
- 50:47Speaker 8: Yeah, because there wasn't a Pixar movie this past year
- 50:50Speaker 8: that wasn't Cars 2. It was miserable.
- 50:54Speaker 24: It was miserable.
- 50:56Speaker 8: Well, it's going to get better when it's Gnomeo and Juliet,
- 50:59Speaker 8: Sherlock Gnomes. I wish I was making that up.
- 51:04Speaker 2: That's as bad as Alvin and the Chipmunks.
- 51:08Speaker 8: The Squeakle or Chipwrecked.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Wait, how can you have a sequel to a Romeo
- 51:13Speaker 1: and Juliet movie?
- 51:15Speaker 8: I'm assuming they might have strayed a little from that
- 51:17Speaker 8: original storyline.
- 51:20Speaker 10: You know, my friend and I, we put it on
- 51:23Speaker 10: for her kid and we were watching it. just to
- 51:26Speaker 10: see if someone died at the end. Because they both died,
- 51:29Speaker 10: and we couldn't make it that far.
- 51:31Speaker 8: Spoiler alert!
- 51:31Speaker 14: Somebody at my house was watching that, because I remember
- 51:34Speaker 14: a comment, but I didn't see it.
- 51:36Speaker 8: It was a smart-ass comment, I'm sure.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Are they, like, actual gnomes?
- 51:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they're garden gnomes.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Oh, they're garden gnomes.
- 51:42Speaker 17: I didn't know it was gnomes in the sense, like,
- 51:44Speaker 17: you know, from Return to Oz, like actual gnome gnomes.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Right, these are long-horned gnomes.
- 51:48Speaker 2: But these are, like, whimsical. So they're just going to carry.
- 51:51Speaker 8: On with the gnome thing.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Right, and they have.
- 51:54Speaker 24: Lawnmower races that's like their battle is they race lawnmowers
- 52:00Speaker 24: it's bad and it has it has Elton John doing
- 52:05Speaker 24: the entire soundtrack.
- 52:06Speaker 8: Oh that's right do you know why it is produced
- 52:09Speaker 8: by Elton John's Rocket Pictures he owns the project yeah
- 52:14Speaker 8: he's making movies.
- 52:16Speaker 13: He's better than that you know he performed Rush Limbaugh's
- 52:18Speaker 13: Wedding just really random but speaking of random things he's doing.
- 52:22Speaker 8: I think he's gone steadily down it I think you
- 52:25Speaker 8: have to go back a ways to find good stuff
- 52:27Speaker 8: from him. I'm sorry. I just... Fuck, that Lion King
- 52:30Speaker 8: soundtrack still kills me.
- 52:31Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Speaking of movies based on Shakespearean sources.
- 52:35Speaker 8: Yeah, stealing from Shakespeare. Yeah, at least that one was tolerable.
- 52:39Speaker 8: At least somebody did that. Yeah, they actually did it right. Well,
- 52:42Speaker 8: maybe they could do.
- 52:43Speaker 14: Like Muhammad Ali, Larry Gnome's fight.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Maybe I'd be.
- 52:48Speaker 11: You've been working on that this whole time, haven't you?
- 52:51Speaker 8: Where else are you going to go with Gnome?
- 52:54Speaker 17: Couldn't Disney just try to get the one up on
- 52:56Speaker 17: them and just remake the Gnome-mobile?
- 52:59Speaker 10: Or Gnome.
- 53:02Speaker 8: Alone.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Gnome Worldbound.
- 53:06Speaker 8: As if the real one's not bad enough, we're coming
- 53:08Speaker 8: up with worse options.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 53:10Speaker 8: This one, this story.
- 53:12Speaker 21: Can I just get in Sweet Noma, Alabama?
- 53:14Speaker 8: Oh, my God. Let's just... But they'll get Reese to
- 53:19Speaker 8: do the voice.
- 53:19Speaker 1: It's not funny. You could probably pitch that.
- 53:24Speaker 2: It would go.
- 53:25Speaker 8: Again, that's the sad part, is we come up with
- 53:27Speaker 8: ideas equally as bad.
- 53:28Speaker 2: We can rock Schneider to voice the love interest.
- 53:32Speaker 8: That'd be really great, actually.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Adam Sandler has a lot of confidence in his voicing abilities.
- 53:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Produced by Adam Sandler.
- 53:38Speaker 8: Nobody else does, but Adam Sandler does.
- 53:41Speaker 9: But who has confidence in Adam Sandler?
- 53:43Speaker 2: Not me.
- 53:44Speaker 1: He's got enough money at this point, he just produces
- 53:46Speaker 1: his own stuff.
- 53:47Speaker 8: It's all gone downhill since remote control, in my mind. So, yeah,
- 53:51Speaker 8: this movie, um, there... You're worrying about the plot. Yeah! Yeah,
- 53:57Speaker 8: you gotta know where they're going with this. No, I
- 53:59Speaker 8: gotta get this horrible thing in. It involves the world's
- 54:02Speaker 8: greatest ornamental detective. Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 54:09Speaker 8: What the hell can you say? I mean, they're making
- 54:12Speaker 8: loads of money. I mean, that's really all you can.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Come up with. So these are lawn ornaments in the
- 54:16Speaker 2: sense that they're living statues.
- 54:18Speaker 1: It follows the toy story, yeah. When people are looking
- 54:22Speaker 1: at them, they don't move. But when, you know, otherwise.
- 54:25Speaker 17: So this living ornamental detective, is it a detective that
- 54:29Speaker 17: is investigating lawn ornaments or is a lawn ornament?
- 54:32Speaker 2: Whereas both, it's like some weird... I'm going to leave
- 54:37Speaker 2: this alone.
- 54:37Speaker 1: You're too interested.
- 54:38Speaker 2: I'm going to just.
- 54:39Speaker 20: Hear law and orderment.
- 54:44Speaker 8: Oh, God. So this makes it even better. The writers
- 54:49Speaker 8: are Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley. I don't know who
- 54:52Speaker 8: either of them are, but they are... Two of the
- 54:55Speaker 8: nine screenwriters, not including William Shakespeare, that put together that
- 55:00Speaker 8: first masterpiece. Nine writers who can rip off a story.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 55:08Speaker 12: When you're working for somebody who's obviously not paying attention
- 55:10Speaker 12: to the end product, are.
- 55:12Speaker 1: You going to really sit and write?
- 55:13Speaker 12: You and your buddies hang out.
- 55:15Speaker 8: So we're writing a movie now is what we're saying.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:18Speaker 13: I would love it if Shakespeare won an honorary Oscar
- 55:20Speaker 13: just for all the source material he's provided for everything.
- 55:23Speaker 8: They really should.
- 55:24Speaker 10: Did anyone ever bother to watch that one movie about Shakespeare?
- 55:28Speaker 9: Anonymous? No, because it's Roland Emmerich, so I didn't care.
- 55:32Speaker 17: See, I was curious just because it was directed by
- 55:34Speaker 17: Roland Emmerich. Is he going to actually make London just collapse?
- 55:39Speaker 13: That's why there were so many explosions in the trailer
- 55:41Speaker 13: about a Shakespeare movie.
- 55:43Speaker 11: I did see it. It was almost unwatchable. It's one
- 55:45Speaker 11: of the few films that I really felt like I
- 55:47Speaker 11: might have to walk out.
- 55:48Speaker 8: And the costumes were amazing.
- 55:49Speaker 2: There's like a tsunami of ink coming through.
- 55:56Speaker 14: I just read the director's comments and I just couldn't
- 55:59Speaker 14: bring myself to go any further it was just so
- 56:03Speaker 14: stupid and I don't even have a position on this
- 56:05Speaker 14: subject I don't care it's just his comments were so
- 56:08Speaker 14: stupid and ignorant.
- 56:10Speaker 11: Not rolling the movie was silly that's just what it
- 56:12Speaker 11: was it was just a silly.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Movie That to me has always been the question.
- 56:16Speaker 17: Is Roland Emmerich like aware of what he's doing? And
- 56:19Speaker 17: it's almost like self parody at this point. I don't
- 56:21Speaker 17: think Michael Bay is, but I kind of feel like
- 56:23Speaker 17: Roland Emmerich.
- 56:24Speaker 8: I think the last few, he's become pretty aware. Yeah.
- 56:26Speaker 2: I mean, you watch like 2012. It's like, I'm going
- 56:28Speaker 2: to make the whole world blow up.
- 56:30Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 56:31Speaker 2: He can't be taking himself serious. He really can't be.
- 56:34Speaker 8: I wouldn't think so at this point, but then this
- 56:36Speaker 8: movie came along. I don't know what to do with
- 56:38Speaker 8: that one. So anonymous doesn't fit him at all, but.
- 56:43Speaker 20: It could be a gnomoness.
- 56:46Speaker 8: All right, that's it. That's enough of the gnomes. We're
- 56:48Speaker 8: moving on. No more gnomes. We can move on to Superman.
- 56:52Speaker 8: Everybody loves Superman.
- 56:54Speaker 9: I don't have an art of love of Superman.
- 56:56Speaker 8: Everybody, mostly Nicolas Cage, according to this. Have you heard
- 57:00Speaker 8: this little.
- 57:01Speaker 22: No.
- 57:02Speaker 8: Well, yeah, you know, it's been widely known that Nicolas
- 57:06Speaker 8: Cage is like a super hardcore Superman fan.
- 57:09Speaker 2: And, um.
- 57:10Speaker 8: He was supposed to be Superman in that ill-fated Tim
- 57:14Speaker 8: Burton movie that went down in flames. So, yeah, as
- 57:18Speaker 8: if that wasn't enough, do you know what his son's
- 57:20Speaker 8: name is?
- 57:21Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 57:22Speaker 8: Kal-El.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Kal-El.
- 57:24Speaker 8: There's something wrong with that name.
- 57:25Speaker 1: But he's crazy.
- 57:26Speaker 8: He's crazy.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I mean.
- 57:28Speaker 2: He's crazy.
- 57:29Speaker 10: All celebrities feel like they have the right to name
- 57:31Speaker 10: their children really stupid things. That's actually not the worst
- 57:34Speaker 10: thing I've ever heard.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Jason Lee is my favorite.
- 57:37Speaker 8: It's super geeky, though. What is it?
- 57:39Speaker 10: Pilot Inspector?
- 57:40Speaker 1: Pilot Inspector is Jason Lee's name.
- 57:42Speaker 8: Pilot's pretty awesome for a name.
- 57:44Speaker 10: Moxie something.
- 57:45Speaker 8: Moxie Crime Fighter.
- 57:47Speaker 10: Whose kid is that?
- 57:49Speaker 2: Nobody knows. What's that? I think it's Penn, isn't it?
- 57:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Penn Jillette? Penn Jillette.
- 57:58Speaker 1: I think it's his daughter's name.
- 58:00Speaker 21: Yeah, I think he claimed that the wife named her.
- 58:04Speaker 13: I think my favorite bad name, and it's not movie related,
- 58:10Speaker 13: but still really great anyway, is my father-in-law. He's a lawyer,
- 58:13Speaker 13: and one of the things he does is child advocacy.
- 58:16Speaker 13: So oftentimes he doesn't actually meet the client before they
- 58:18Speaker 13: meet in court. So he's like, okay, judge, I'm here
- 58:23Speaker 13: to represent my client.
- 58:26Speaker 9: Shithead. And the kid's mother just looks at me and says,
- 58:30Speaker 9: it's shithead.
- 58:32Speaker 13: But it's spelled S-H-I-T-H-E-A-D.
- 58:36Speaker 8: Wow.
- 58:36Speaker 1: That's just a dumbass.
- 58:39Speaker 8: Yeah, they should.
- 58:42Speaker 9: Yeah, the other lawyer just goes, I rest my case.
- 58:44Speaker 1: And we're done.
- 58:44Speaker 2: That's terrible.
- 58:52Speaker 13: Like their first day of kindergarten or something like the
- 58:55Speaker 13: poor teacher somebody i know who always wanted.
- 58:58Speaker 14: To do stand-up did it last month at an open
- 59:01Speaker 14: mic in new york and she told the story about
- 59:04Speaker 14: her uncle.
- 59:05Speaker 2: Whose name was Ben deck.
- 59:08Speaker 14: And even back in the 40s when he was in
- 59:10Speaker 14: the military I mean it meant what it meant and
- 59:14Speaker 14: so he tried to get it he tried to to
- 59:17Speaker 14: get them to put BD on his dog tags and
- 59:21Speaker 14: put B period deep they said you can't do that
- 59:24Speaker 14: you can't put a period and so if you put
- 59:27Speaker 14: B only D only And his dog tags read Bonely Bent.
- 59:33Speaker 8: That's what I was afraid of.
- 59:36Speaker 2: But he preferred it. It's better than Bent Dick.
- 59:39Speaker 8: Who names a kid Bent? Like, if it was Dick Bent.
- 59:42Speaker 20: And it wasn't short for Bentley or anything.
- 59:44Speaker 8: I can see that as a last name.
- 59:46Speaker 20: It wasn't Bentley or anything. It was just what it was.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 59:49Speaker 8: Bent for a first name.
- 59:50Speaker 10: That's kind of a cool name, Bent. It's like Bent
- 59:54Speaker 10: the team.
- 59:56Speaker 8: Parents need to think ahead.
- 59:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 59:58Speaker 8: You've got to sit there when you're naming your child.
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: You've got to sit there and go, okay, what are
- 1:00:01Speaker 8: they going to rhyme this with in grade school?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: You've got to have an alibi.
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: You've got to plan ahead.
- 1:00:05Speaker 14: You have to say, well, your grandmother, your grandfather. Because
- 1:00:09Speaker 14: nobody should have the responsibility for naming another human being.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: There was a Saturday Night Live skit about that years
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: ago where they were combing over every possible name and
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: how it could be turned into... uh something they could
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: a kid could tease about it and it turned out
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: their last name was like shithead or something like that
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: so you know like the pizza delivery guy came you
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: know here you go mr shithead.
- 1:00:37Speaker 8: That's better than most of their skits actually no it
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: was amusing but i think it might have been nicholas
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: cage to bring it back around.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Right before the little elvis.
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: Skit Well, on to Nicolas Cage's craziness with Superman. He's
- 1:00:54Speaker 8: one of the few people that actually owns a copy
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: of Action Comics No. 1, the comic book where Superman
- 1:00:59Speaker 8: was debuted in 1938. So there was a whole big
- 1:01:04Speaker 8: thing in 2000. That comic book was stolen and was
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: only recently recovered. So Lionsgate has now picked up the
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: rights to a script called Action No. 1. Yeah, the
- 1:01:15Speaker 8: script tells the true story of how a group of
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: nerds attempted to steal Nicolas Cage's cherished comic book, which
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: was recovered last year and found in an abandoned storage locker.
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: Of all the ridiculous things to adapt into a movie.
- 1:01:31Speaker 14: So it's going to be like National Treasure.
- 1:01:33Speaker 9: Is he going to play himself?
- 1:01:35Speaker 8: That's the thing. They were hoping to actually get Nicolas
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: Cage to play Nicolas Cage, but now that the movie
- 1:01:40Speaker 8: has actually been picked up, it looks like they're going
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: to give the role to somebody else.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: They're going to.
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: Give it to The Rock. He could do it, though.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Rob Schneider.
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: I'd love to see someone else play Nicolas Cage.
- 1:01:53Speaker 14: Actually, Andy Samberg does it pretty good.
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: I can see that.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: They bring Nicolas Cage on sometimes.
- 1:02:00Speaker 14: And the way he does it, the way he makes
- 1:02:02Speaker 14: it good is it's kind of like some sort of meta-realism.
- 1:02:06Speaker 20: He doesn't do it very well at all.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: And somehow that works.
- 1:02:11Speaker 14: Somehow it's like, wow, that really seems like Nicolas Cage
- 1:02:14Speaker 14: in a way.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: I don't know, you can almost get anybody now.
- 1:02:17Speaker 8: Yeah, the mediocrity comes through.
- 1:02:21Speaker 14: And he did it, I saw him do it once
- 1:02:23Speaker 14: with Nicolas Cage. They were like sitting together and they
- 1:02:26Speaker 14: did it back and forth.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: And it was really pretty good.
- 1:02:29Speaker 14: Nicholas Cage does a pretty bad Nicholas Cage.
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: He does. He did an impression of him the entire
- 1:02:34Speaker 8: movie in Drive Angry.
- 1:02:37Speaker 10: You know, I actually had a lengthy dinner conversation about
- 1:02:39Speaker 10: Nicholas Cage last night, so this is kind of like,
- 1:02:41Speaker 10: it feels kind of redundant.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Was it a bad dinner? It was at the Bristol, yeah,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: it wasn't very good.
- 1:02:48Speaker 14: Oh, and then there was that Onion headline, Meet the
- 1:02:50Speaker 14: man who works the Nicholas Cage costume.
- 1:02:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:02:55Speaker 14: They had a little guy inside the Nicolas Cage costume.
- 1:02:59Speaker 8: That would explain so much, really.
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: Like crying on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Jim Henson presents Nicolas Cage.
- 1:03:06Speaker 8: That would be interesting.
- 1:03:09Speaker 13: Nicolas Cage is interesting to me because he's one of
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: those that everybody just kind of shits on, but I
- 1:03:13Speaker 13: can name several movies that he was actually really good at.
- 1:03:15Speaker 8: He can be an amazing actor.
- 1:03:17Speaker 9: We have a consensus here, so why.
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: Because he's out of his damn mind. Because there's a
- 1:03:25Speaker 8: span of like ten in a row that were horrible
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: and then he'll come back around and do something good again.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I don't even know if it's necessarily unintentional. I think
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: there's a lot of intentionality to it.
- 1:03:35Speaker 17: Like he's open to self-parody to the point where he's
- 1:03:38Speaker 17: down for playing a bad version of himself.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: In a movie because he just finds it fucking funny.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: It's like nobody else gets it oh well.
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: I mean one of his best performances is Kick-Ass.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: And the thing is, he brought that. Like, they didn't
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: know what to do with that character. And he came
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: in and he was like, okay, wait, I'm going to
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: do something. And he comes in and just starts, like,
- 1:03:56Speaker 8: doing the Adam West delivery. And the producers are like,
- 1:04:00Speaker 8: what the fuck is he doing? And, like, he didn't
- 1:04:02Speaker 8: give them a heads up. He just started doing the
- 1:04:03Speaker 8: entire thing like that. And then later, like, was like, no, really,
- 1:04:07Speaker 8: this is what I want to do. And, like, and
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: they finally saw. But they thought he was just crazy,
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: because he is. Because he just went in with that pitch.
- 1:04:14Speaker 8: And that's what he was going to do. This is
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: the character I'm going to be.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: And, like.
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: I mean, it's an entirely parody version, but when he's
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: not doing the Adam West voice, it's like the rest
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: of the movie is some of the best acting he's
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: done in years.
- 1:04:26Speaker 17: Nicolas Cage, too, in Bad Lieutenant. He's totally just devouring
- 1:04:31Speaker 17: the scenery. He's not even chewing it.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: He's just completely demolishing it.
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: It's fun.
- 1:04:35Speaker 8: But that's the good end version, and then you've got
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: Ghost Rider end of it, which is terrible.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Ghost Rider 2 is coming out, speaking of which.
- 1:04:44Speaker 9: But then he was good in Adaptation.
- 1:04:46Speaker 8: Yeah, see? I mean, he can do good movies. And
- 1:04:49Speaker 8: he can do crap.
- 1:04:50Speaker 9: He had to play two characters in Adaptation.
- 1:04:52Speaker 11: It was great.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I think maybe the reason why is he's just trying
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: to churn them out so fast because he's been so
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: far in debt. He doesn't care.
- 1:04:59Speaker 8: That's kind of true.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I'll just act crazy, get this out on paper, and
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: move on to the next movie.
- 1:05:05Speaker 8: I have that issue when I'm trying to pay my
- 1:05:07Speaker 8: castle off.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: When you've got, like, ten houses and a castle, you know,
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: it's trouble. You've got to come up with some money.
- 1:05:17Speaker 10: Oh, Lord.
- 1:05:17Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 1:05:18Speaker 8: I think that should round out the fun buzz. So
- 1:05:22Speaker 8: if we want to do any somewhat recent... I was
- 1:05:25Speaker 8: thinking any, like, new movie geek week. Just kind of
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: a quick one or two. I've got one if nobody
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: else has anything at the moment.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I've got plenty.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I've got tons.
- 1:05:37Speaker 8: Well, we're almost done with this episode, so you've got
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: two minutes to get it out. So who wants to
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: do one? We can do, like, two.
- 1:05:47Speaker 21: I already claimed the comfy chair, so.
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: I'm throwing this out because it only kind of works
- 1:05:53Speaker 8: this week. So I saw John Carter.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:57Speaker 8: In 3D. Guess what theater I went to. Because they
- 1:06:03Speaker 8: only had 3D. But, yeah, I was kind of thinking
- 1:06:06Speaker 8: that's probably what happened. When I looked at the listing,
- 1:06:08Speaker 8: I was like, well, I don't need to see. Ah,
- 1:06:10Speaker 8: son of a bitch. I guess I am going to
- 1:06:11Speaker 8: see 3D.
- 1:06:12Speaker 17: I should have gotten a comfy chair because the studios
- 1:06:14Speaker 17: are constantly.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Bending me over and having to play with me.
- 1:06:17Speaker 21: I need the extra cushioning.
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: But yeah, I don't know. I guess first off, I
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: have to say that trailer was terrible because it looked
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: pretty bad. And only in the last week or so,
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: I've heard some decent things. And I was like, it's
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: been forever since I'd seen anything in the theater. I
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: was like, all right, let's go see something. This seems
- 1:06:36Speaker 8: like a spectacle kind of movie. It's only going to
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: work on the big screen. Let's go. I ended up
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: liking it. I was kind of surprised. Has anybody else
- 1:06:44Speaker 8: seen it yet?
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: That's exactly what everyone has said. They're like, I'm surprised.
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: I liked it. That's the exact way it is said.
- 1:06:51Speaker 8: That's what everybody that I've only heard a few people
- 1:06:54Speaker 8: that were like, and they're usually hardcore novel fans.
- 1:06:57Speaker 17: They've got people flocking in droves to basically hate this movie.
- 1:07:01Speaker 8: They all walk out, I can't believe I like this movie.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I'm not demanding for my money back.
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: Yeah, and I think for once the CG kind of
- 1:07:11Speaker 8: works for what they're doing. You know, a lot of
- 1:07:14Speaker 8: it is crazy over-the-top stuff, but the entire story is.
- 1:07:18Speaker 8: So it's like, I don't know, in a way it
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: kind of like makes it a little easier to buy
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: because the whole thing is on Mars. So I don't know,
- 1:07:25Speaker 8: that was interesting. And it's funny how much they find
- 1:07:29Speaker 8: a way to work everything into this movie. I mean,
- 1:07:31Speaker 8: it's got points where it's kind of like a Western movie,
- 1:07:35Speaker 8: It's got points where it's total sci-fi. It's got points
- 1:07:38Speaker 8: that it's kind of like an archaeological adventure movie.
- 1:07:42Speaker 10: Kind of like Cowboys and Aliens.
- 1:07:44Speaker 8: No, it's like Cowboys and Aliens and four more things
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: crammed into one.
- 1:07:48Speaker 14: Is one of them gnomes?
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: No, thank God. See, that's why I liked it. There
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: were no damn gnomes in it. But there's an awesome
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: monster dog. There's a monster dog that is so damn cool.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Is it played by The Rock?
- 1:07:59Speaker 8: I need to get it. If it was, I would
- 1:08:01Speaker 8: still get it because I need a rock hanging around
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: the house too. But yeah, monster dog's fun. So yeah,
- 1:08:06Speaker 8: I didn't hate John Carter. And I had not really
- 1:08:11Speaker 8: been familiar with John Carter Kid, the Friday Night Lights guy.
- 1:08:16Speaker 8: he's pretty good in it. I can actually like see
- 1:08:18Speaker 8: him getting a lot more lead roles out of this
- 1:08:21Speaker 8: because he, he doesn't look terrible. And this could, he
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: could come off, you know, by like clash of the Titans.
- 1:08:27Speaker 8: He could come off and all anybody said was that
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: guy sucks. And like this one, I don't get that.
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: I think he, he kind of wins people over. So
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: I was pretty happy with it.
- 1:08:36Speaker 17: I was skeptical because it's been in, you know, production
- 1:08:38Speaker 17: hell for like four years. I remember it was originally
- 1:08:41Speaker 17: attached to the fellow who did, um, Sky Captain in.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: The World of Tomorrow, which I loved, because that.
- 1:08:46Speaker 17: Was just a great throwback to the serials of the
- 1:08:49Speaker 17: 30s and the 40s, and I thought that would be
- 1:08:50Speaker 17: perfect for John Carter, which.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: It ended up getting shifted to somebody else. can i
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: ruin who did.
- 1:08:55Speaker 8: This uh it's this is like his first live action
- 1:08:58Speaker 8: he did like animated didn't he did wally yeah yeah
- 1:09:01Speaker 8: which is why i kind of had a little more
- 1:09:04Speaker 8: faith in it towards the end.
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: That's really my only interest because yeah wally's awesome yeah
- 1:09:09Speaker 13: wally is so i'm just curious how he translated to
- 1:09:11Speaker 13: a not anime yeah he's done he's he's been a
- 1:09:15Speaker 13: part of most of the did he do Ratatouille or
- 1:09:20Speaker 13: was that someone else I think.
- 1:09:21Speaker 14: It might have been the guy that said he was
- 1:09:23Speaker 14: like involved on he was one of the few people
- 1:09:26Speaker 14: who was involved in pretty much every.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: One yeah I think he has been I think he's
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: he is one part of.
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: Pixar yeah interesting guy let me see what else Going backwards,
- 1:09:40Speaker 8: let's see. Do we want just director or writing? Because, yeah,
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: he's going back to Toy Story. He's screenplay, so he's
- 1:09:46Speaker 8: pretty much all of them. And then just director-wise, Wally,
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: Finding Nemo. Fantastic. He was co-director on Bugs Life.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Good on your resume.
- 1:09:56Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. Wally is pretty damn amazing. I think that's, again,
- 1:10:01Speaker 8: in that last week, I remembered that, and I was like,
- 1:10:04Speaker 8: that almost pushed it over the edge, too. So, yeah,
- 1:10:07Speaker 8: I was... So it's almost.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Like those Folgers commercials, you know, tying back to coffee now.
- 1:10:12Speaker 17: It's like, we've switched this regular shitty movie with a
- 1:10:16Speaker 17: decent movie.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Let's see if the audience is impressed.
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: Well, it never has a second movie at home.
- 1:10:22Speaker 20: Ah, the aroma.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: If they would have just put Pixar.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Instead of Disney Presents, I would have gone for a
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: double price.
- 1:10:31Speaker 8: That's another thing that threw me off. I was worried
- 1:10:34Speaker 8: that they were really going to Disney it up and
- 1:10:36Speaker 8: it was really going to be super family friendly, which.
- 1:10:39Speaker 20: Hillary Duff was.
- 1:10:40Speaker 8: Hillary Duff it up.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: But.
- 1:10:43Speaker 8: That's the other, I was like, they do not shy
- 1:10:46Speaker 8: away from violence in this thing. Like, it is, they've
- 1:10:49Speaker 8: got the out that you're on Mars, so all the
- 1:10:51Speaker 8: blood can be purple and blue and whatever, but because
- 1:10:54Speaker 8: of that, like, he offs so many creatures on this planet,
- 1:10:58Speaker 8: and like, violently.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I mean, I was.
- 1:11:01Speaker 8: I was kind of surprised for it being family or,
- 1:11:04Speaker 8: but again, it's not really anything that like, as a kid,
- 1:11:07Speaker 8: I watched a lot of horrible stuff and I don't,
- 1:11:08Speaker 8: you know, I don't know that this was any worse
- 1:11:10Speaker 8: than stuff I was watching. So I don't see it
- 1:11:13Speaker 8: like bothering kids because it's done so fun and so
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: kind of like pulpy, you know, it really does kind
- 1:11:18Speaker 8: of fit the, the old spirit of the old books.
- 1:11:21Speaker 8: So I, I think it's, it's kind of, a decent
- 1:11:24Speaker 8: mixture somewhere.
- 1:11:25Speaker 17: And you say that, you know, it's a shame that
- 1:11:26Speaker 17: basically the Disney name has actually gotten to be where.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: It's a negative thing.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: I think it depends on the project.
- 1:11:32Speaker 17: So much bad stuff. Even when it comes to, you know, um,
- 1:11:36Speaker 17: 2d cell animation. I mean, the last few films of
- 1:11:39Speaker 17: theirs just kind of suck. I mean, I never saw
- 1:11:40Speaker 17: princess and the frog. I like that actually kind of
- 1:11:43Speaker 17: redeemed that, um.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: I thought it felt forced. Like, we have to do this.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: We have to be PC and force this princess on.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: But it is, like, ridiculous that they've not done any. Like,
- 1:11:57Speaker 8: I mean, how many years have they had Disney, and
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: they've done every other ethnicity in the world.
- 1:12:01Speaker 17: I wanted to see it, too, because also, I mean,
- 1:12:03Speaker 17: it was another one where it had a good track record,
- 1:12:05Speaker 17: because the same fellow who directed it, I think, was
- 1:12:07Speaker 17: involved in, you know, Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, like that.
- 1:12:12Speaker 8: That run of classics.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Decent scene they had in the late 80s, early 90s.
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: Not the Lion King.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: I think it was the same director as maybe Aladdin
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: or something. Princess. I'd have to go back and look.
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: I've heard definitely good things about Tangled. I still haven't
- 1:12:27Speaker 8: gotten around to it.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Tangled is a lot of fun.
- 1:12:29Speaker 8: Kids all kind of like it. They're sort of redeeming
- 1:12:32Speaker 8: that level. But them doing live action is like a
- 1:12:35Speaker 8: kiss of death at this point. I was worried about that.
- 1:12:39Speaker 10: When I saw the trailer for the movie and it
- 1:12:42Speaker 10: said disney presents i was really confused i'm like disney's
- 1:12:46Speaker 10: allowed to make non-animated.
- 1:12:48Speaker 22: Movies i don't know they've been doing that for quite
- 1:12:50Speaker 22: a while yeah i know but i mean they're just
- 1:12:55Speaker 22: so connected to their animated stuff like you think disney
- 1:13:00Speaker 22: you don't think any live.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Action disney parts the caribbean oh that's.
- 1:13:04Speaker 9: True they did Stuff way back in the 50s. Ugly Dachshund.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: That wasn't animated?
- 1:13:11Speaker 10: I don't, I mean.
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: The best science fiction ever, The Black Hole.
- 1:13:15Speaker 17: You mentioned Ugly Dachshund and you had that dark cat.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Dean Jones was like in everything.
- 1:13:20Speaker 8: Kurt Russell, I mean, he did a string of them.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: I've never seen him.
- 1:13:23Speaker 10: Is that just no disney cartoons you.
- 1:13:25Speaker 8: Don't have to watch yeah once once they got out
- 1:13:28Speaker 8: of that era it was like a long time before
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: they ever got back to like feature length like they
- 1:13:33Speaker 8: used to do those in like late 60s and early
- 1:13:35Speaker 8: 70s and then like they started once that like boom
- 1:13:39Speaker 8: of animation kicked back in in the 80s they were
- 1:13:41Speaker 8: like that's all they became and they you know they
- 1:13:44Speaker 8: still tried to do other stuff but nobody really cared anymore.
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: So I don't know.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: I think they did Condor Man right about the early
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: 80s or something like that.
- 1:13:52Speaker 8: Maybe that was the nail in the coffin.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Right, it might have been.
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: So, do we have one more to round this one out?
- 1:13:59Speaker 14: A movie?
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: I was just going to mention something very quickly. We
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: talked about children's movies. I was, from the second I
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: heard about this movie, I thought I was, I just
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: about threw up. And I watched it and I was
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: pleasantly surprised that I kind of liked it.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: That was.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: The Mr. Popper's Penguins.
- 1:14:20Speaker 11: Oh, God.
- 1:14:21Speaker 9: I know.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: I'm ashamed of myself for even saying it. You kind
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: of should be. It was one of those things where
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: we were allowed. I think it was like a Redbox
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: thing where somebody said, here, you watch it and return it.
- 1:14:35Speaker 8: Free stuff.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: He's making an excuse for it. It's like when you
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: hear people say, I went shopping at Walmart.
- 1:14:40Speaker 17: I mean, I don't normally shop at Walmart.
- 1:14:42Speaker 22: I had a gift card.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: I'm not going to beat around the bush. That's exactly
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: what I'm doing.
- 1:14:45Speaker 8: I had to go.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: And....
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I was pleasantly surprised. It's formulaic. It's not any over-the-top
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Jim Carrey at any point.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: That's unusual.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: They don't let him do everything that he wants to do. And, yeah,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: it's not great, but it's not something I would, you know,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: it's not as bad, we'll put it this way, it's
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: not as bad as I thought.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: It was going to be.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: That's for sure.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: It was watchable.
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: That's something.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: That's about as good as I can say.
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: They should slap that on the front of the DVD.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: It's watchable.
- 1:15:20Speaker 14: Watchable.
- 1:15:21Speaker 8: Greg, we're moving up.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: I watched a lot of other things. I did see Hugo.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: I know you mentioned that finally. And this was a
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: question I wanted to ask the group. I got a
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: lot of, has everybody seen it?
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: I've seen it.
- 1:15:35Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:15:37Speaker 9: For the people that have.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: And I'm not going to spoil anything. It's got an animatronic,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you know, dude.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: Was that.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I know every... The whole thing was, you know, about
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: the movies and film and the olden days. Was that
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: like an homage to Metropolis? That someone was obsessed with
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: building this robot, you know, replacement for love.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: Sort of thing?
- 1:16:04Speaker 8: I don't... I'm working on one of.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Those, by the way.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: It's been so long since I've seen Metropolis.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: I kind of saw the same extension myself. You're not
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: alone on that.
- 1:16:15Speaker 8: Especially since that's what the entire back end of the
- 1:16:18Speaker 8: movie is about. It's early silent film, so I can
- 1:16:22Speaker 8: see that being a nice little tie-in, too.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: I think I'm going to have to go back and
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: watch it. that again just just to kind of see it.
- 1:16:28Speaker 14: Really does make you want to go back and watch
- 1:16:30Speaker 14: some early movies.
- 1:16:31Speaker 8: I mean it kind of does its job i mean.
- 1:16:33Speaker 13: Smile on your face yeah i had so i i
- 1:16:37Speaker 13: talked to some people at work about it because they.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: All watch a lot of movies as well not things
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: that i watch but um they all hated it just
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: how slow it was and.
- 1:16:49Speaker 8: I can see that with regular people and it just
- 1:16:53Speaker 8: regular people I wanted to I.
- 1:16:59Speaker 10: Wanted to really love it but I think they could
- 1:17:01Speaker 10: have used a little bit more editing it was like
- 1:17:04Speaker 10: unnecessarily long with a lot.
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: Of streamlined like it's been so much time in that
- 1:17:10Speaker 8: first half doing other stuff and it's like if you
- 1:17:14Speaker 8: want to make it all about loving movies just go
- 1:17:16Speaker 8: ahead and make it about loving movies but that first
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: hour of like let's talk about books now I mean,
- 1:17:21Speaker 8: he goes off on everybody's obsession with, you know, what
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: they love and making toys and, like, all these other
- 1:17:28Speaker 8: little things that they go into, which is cool. I mean,
- 1:17:30Speaker 8: that's sort of the running theme is all these things
- 1:17:32Speaker 8: that they're obsessed with.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: Just because it gave them an excuse to put Christopher
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Lee in the film.
- 1:17:36Speaker 8: Right. That's the thing. Many have called him out for that.
- 1:17:38Speaker 8: They're like, what is that character there for other than
- 1:17:40Speaker 8: you had Christopher Lee on board? And you're like, all right, fine,
- 1:17:42Speaker 8: write this in real quick.
- 1:17:43Speaker 10: There's some weird old car commercial on this TV, and
- 1:17:46Speaker 10: I swear to God, on one of the production lines,
- 1:17:48Speaker 10: it was DJ Jazzy Jeff.
- 1:17:50Speaker 8: I swear to God. This is why we don't turn
- 1:17:52Speaker 8: the TV on during recording.
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: That's it.
- 1:17:56Speaker 8: We're easily distracted.
- 1:17:59Speaker 10: No, I'm serious. It was DJ Jazzy Jeff.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: He needs a job. What do you want?
- 1:18:03Speaker 10: In the 50s, he built a time machine.
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:18:06Speaker 14: Oh, they solved the mystery of the Charlie Chaplin lady.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: Oh, yes.
- 1:18:10Speaker 14: The hearing aid. It was a hearing aid. It looked
- 1:18:13Speaker 14: like a cell phone in an early Chaplin movie.
- 1:18:16Speaker 8: I still think it's a cell phone.
- 1:18:17Speaker 13: I feel like there's so many more rational explanations than
- 1:18:20Speaker 13: a cell phone. For somebody to be just doing this,
- 1:18:22Speaker 13: it was so far off.
- 1:18:24Speaker 8: I like time travel.
- 1:18:25Speaker 9: I like time travel, too.
- 1:18:28Speaker 8: I like that as the reason.
- 1:18:28Speaker 17: Going back to Nicolas Cage, I'm sure you've seen that
- 1:18:31Speaker 17: Civil War photo.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: There's a Civil War photo of a soldier, and it
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: looks dead up like Nicolas Cage.
- 1:18:39Speaker 14: I was at the Derby Museum once. And there was
- 1:18:42Speaker 14: a picture of, what's his name, the composer, Stephen Foster.
- 1:18:47Speaker 14: He looks exactly like Judge Reinhold. Exactly like him.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: See, I think I've proven, just with logic, that time
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: travel will never exist. Especially retro time travel, going back
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: in time. Because at some point, after they've made the technology... Inevitably,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: it will become mass marketed and everybody will be able
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: to do it. And somebody will find out a way
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: to completely fuck everything up. And we're still here. So
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: that cannot be true.
- 1:19:23Speaker 9: But you can't change the past.
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: I'll say it's damn well better being real. Even with
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: time travel things.
- 1:19:30Speaker 8: You can, you just fuck everything up.
- 1:19:32Speaker 17: No, no, I hope it is real because we've got
- 1:19:34Speaker 17: ourselves three years to get to the future that Back
- 1:19:37Speaker 17: to the Future 2 predicted we would have.
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: We've got to hurry up.
- 1:19:40Speaker 17: And I want that future, but time travel has to
- 1:19:42Speaker 17: be real for that to be real.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: And I want a flying car.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: Oh, I know, hoverboards and self-drying jackets.
- 1:19:49Speaker 8: More than anything else, they need to hurry up and
- 1:19:51Speaker 8: make a lot more Jaws movies because we're behind.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: We're never going to make Jaws 34 if we don't.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: Who was it?
- 1:19:56Speaker 14: It was Gore Vidal's grandfather was on the Presidential Commission
- 1:20:03Speaker 14: for Flying Cars.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:20:06Speaker 8: Did they get those approved?
- 1:20:08Speaker 14: Well, there were some, but the best one actually was
- 1:20:12Speaker 14: kind of like a U-Haul, a car with a U-Haul
- 1:20:15Speaker 14: on the back, and you have to get out and
- 1:20:18Speaker 14: sort of arrange it.
- 1:20:19Speaker 20: But it was the best car and the best plane ever.
- 1:20:23Speaker 8: Of all the designs and it hasn't caught on that's
- 1:20:26Speaker 8: odd because the one that's a car and a boat
- 1:20:29Speaker 8: is the worst of both actually have you ever seen
- 1:20:31Speaker 8: one of those the cars that the car that like
- 1:20:33Speaker 8: drives straight into the water and becomes a boat they
- 1:20:36Speaker 8: do make those i've seen somebody drive into the river with.
- 1:20:39Speaker 14: One there's a big difference between something existing and something
- 1:20:43Speaker 14: being commercially viable.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: But they are making those hoverboards. Mattel's making recreations of those.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: I saw that recently. And you can already buy the
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: tennis shoes and the hats. You can buy the hats.
- 1:20:55Speaker 8: Well, they made one that actually works, but it only
- 1:20:59Speaker 8: works like an inch off the ground, and you can't
- 1:21:01Speaker 8: move it. It will just sit.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: You can't be on it.
- 1:21:03Speaker 8: You can't be on it. It just sits and hovers.
- 1:21:06Speaker 14: Cool.
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: That's as far as we've gotten so far.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: Well, they had better ones than that.
- 1:21:10Speaker 14: Back in the, what was it, Popular Mechanics, you could
- 1:21:13Speaker 14: order from the The back, how to make.
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: A hovercraft out of a lawnmower motor. The one that
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: looks like it's the main piece of a vacuum cleaner. Yeah.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: You're not talking about movies anymore.
- 1:21:26Speaker 8: That's why we're wrapping up.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: Wait, I could throw in a couple movies real quick.
- 1:21:30Speaker 14: Without getting into any big discussion. But I saw Russian Ark,
- 1:21:35Speaker 14: which is filmed in the Hermitage.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: One 96-minute tracking shot.
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:21:42Speaker 13: Wow.
- 1:21:43Speaker 9: Is it really or are they fake edits?
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: No, it is. They actually did a tracking shot.
- 1:21:47Speaker 17: And that's the amazing thing is they only had 36 hours.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: To do this because the Hermitage Museum was like, we're
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: not letting you take all this time to screw around
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: and all that. Was that funny the way I just reacted? No, no, no.
- 1:21:58Speaker 10: I had Alan hand me my phone because I had
- 1:22:00Speaker 10: to immediately look up the Nicholas Carrier Civil War photo.
- 1:22:07Speaker 10: And then I get a text from a friend that says,
- 1:22:10Speaker 10: My dick towel has just shipped. I can't wait. From
- 1:22:15Speaker 10: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the dick towel.
- 1:22:17Speaker 8: That's its own little Marlena moment right there. There we go.
- 1:22:21Speaker 17: But yeah, they only had 36 hours to come in,
- 1:22:23Speaker 17: to set everything up, to get 2,300 extras and like 120, no,
- 1:22:30Speaker 17: it was like 23 assistant directors. Everybody coordinated so they
- 1:22:33Speaker 17: could have this one tracking shot to where it basically spans.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Like 300 years in time. by two characters walking through
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: the building.
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: This is too complicated.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: It's pretty cool.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: I know, it's just utterly astounding.
- 1:22:46Speaker 17: I'm watching, and I was like, I only have maybe
- 1:22:48Speaker 17: a fourth or a third of these references historically that
- 1:22:51Speaker 17: I get.
- 1:22:51Speaker 14: Yeah, I couldn't quite get all of it. And the
- 1:22:54Speaker 14: European guy was just, I enjoyed that he had attitude,
- 1:23:00Speaker 14: but I don't really know my European history.
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: And culture well enough.
- 1:23:05Speaker 20: To really appreciate it.
- 1:23:07Speaker 17: You know the basic gist I got from it was
- 1:23:09Speaker 17: just that the Russians very much embraced the renaissance and
- 1:23:14Speaker 17: tried to reciprocate with you know sharing of ideas and
- 1:23:17Speaker 17: artwork and that and that Europe just kind of rejected them.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: It's the basic gist that I got with those two
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: characters that was going on the dynamic but it's just
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:23:25Speaker 17: It's you know yeah a technical achievement just that they
- 1:23:29Speaker 17: pulled off a movie that is one single tracking shot
- 1:23:32Speaker 17: and it's very very dreamlike.
- 1:23:34Speaker 14: Too yeah Yeah, it's narrated by a ghost.
- 1:23:39Speaker 9: Yeah. I mean, it starts off.
- 1:23:40Speaker 14: It's interesting how they made that into a movie. Like,
- 1:23:43Speaker 14: what elements can you put together to make this walk
- 1:23:47Speaker 14: through the hermitage into a viable movie?
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: I mean, he starts off just... The narrator wakes up,
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: and he's like, where am I? What time is this?
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: I'm speaking Russian.
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: It just.
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: But it works.
- 1:23:59Speaker 20: Time travel.
- 1:24:00Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:01Speaker 20: Time travel. So that was cool.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: I'm also.
- 1:24:04Speaker 14: We're slowly watching Anna Karenina, a masterpiece theater from 2000,
- 1:24:10Speaker 14: and it's really good, speaking of Russian stuff. The woman
- 1:24:16Speaker 14: in it looks almost exactly like how I'd picture Anna
- 1:24:21Speaker 14: Karenina from the book.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say.
- 1:24:25Speaker 14: But it also looks like the woman I know on Facebook,
- 1:24:27Speaker 14: which is a little weird.
- 1:24:31Speaker 20: But it's really pretty good. I mean, there's a lot
- 1:24:33Speaker 20: that's really good about it.
- 1:24:36Speaker 14: But I'm trying to watch it with my wife, so
- 1:24:39Speaker 14: we have to just find the time when we can
- 1:24:41Speaker 14: sit down together and watch that.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: I'll say real quick, I won't take much time. I
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: recently saw Alpha Bill. I just loved it. Jean-Pierre Melville.
- 1:24:50Speaker 21: Hey, we just agreed on something.
- 1:24:52Speaker 8: High five. Damn it, there goes that arm wrestling match.
- 1:24:56Speaker 9: The Jean-Luc Godard film?
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted to say Melville. I'm switching too.
- 1:25:02Speaker 17: Watching it, it's just a great film noir as well
- 1:25:05Speaker 17: as a sci-fi film.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: I watched it and I was like, Philip K. Dick
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: had to have just loved this film when he was young.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: And that's what inspired half of what he wrote.
- 1:25:17Speaker 17: Because it's just set in this ambiguous future to where
- 1:25:21Speaker 17: this detective is just sent back to basically figure out
- 1:25:23Speaker 17: what the hell is going on in this strange city
- 1:25:25Speaker 17: to where it's run by a computer, and it's carrying
- 1:25:28Speaker 17: out genocide and all this weird stuff.
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: It's just very, very cool.
- 1:25:33Speaker 9: It's a good one, yeah.
- 1:25:35Speaker 14: I know what I was going to say, apart from
- 1:25:37Speaker 14: recommending the Masterpiece Theater. I hesitate, I have a micro-hesitation
- 1:25:42Speaker 14: when I say Anna Karenina, because I've heard that, I mean,
- 1:25:45Speaker 14: it's just wrong. His name's Karenin. It's his name. The
- 1:25:50Speaker 14: feminine ending is just a.
- 1:25:52Speaker 20: Mistake that every book does. And so now I'm like
- 1:25:57Speaker 20: on the fence.
- 1:25:59Speaker 14: It's like I don't normally shop at Walmart, so I
- 1:26:02Speaker 14: have this Anna Karenina.
- 1:26:04Speaker 17: It's like I normally don't rent movies from Redbox, much
- 1:26:09Speaker 17: less Mr.
- 1:26:10Speaker 11: Popper's.
- 1:26:12Speaker 8: Again, what do we as Americans like? Because that's what
- 1:26:16Speaker 8: we claim, and we do it that way. Nobody else
- 1:26:18Speaker 8: in the world agrees, but we don't care.
- 1:26:21Speaker 9: Don't you have listeners in Europe right now?
- 1:26:23Speaker 8: Yeah, we do, but I would think they should know
- 1:26:25Speaker 8: we're hard-headed and selfish.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not news.
- 1:26:29Speaker 8: That's not, yeah. I'm calling us out more than anyone.
- 1:26:32Speaker 10: You're like a really lazy expatriate. You're like an expatriate
- 1:26:35Speaker 10: without the, like, The next part?
- 1:26:37Speaker 8: Yeah, you just haven't left yet. I'm realistic, is what
- 1:26:41Speaker 8: I think. Just signed off, but still hanging around.
- 1:26:44Speaker 20: You're like one of those guys that's still hanging around
- 1:26:46Speaker 20: the high school years later.
- 1:26:48Speaker 8: Hey, that's where you pick up the chick.
- 1:26:50Speaker 10: You're just a sitting duck.
- 1:26:52Speaker 8: No, I think I'm just realistic. I think people lie
- 1:26:55Speaker 8: to themselves when they try to pretend like we're anything
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: more than that. I'm just realistic about the way that
- 1:27:00Speaker 8: we operate. We are very set in our ways. We
- 1:27:03Speaker 8: don't change for anybody else. We do things our way,
- 1:27:06Speaker 8: or we don't do it at all. So I think
- 1:27:08Speaker 8: that's just kind of common knowledge around the world. That's
- 1:27:11Speaker 8: why a lot of them hate us, really.
- 1:27:12Speaker 10: And Barack Obama.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: They really hate Barack Obama. They just want to be us.
- 1:27:18Speaker 13: I was in France two summers ago, and there was
- 1:27:20Speaker 13: this one woman in our group who, she wouldn't walk
- 1:27:22Speaker 13: anywhere because it was too far, and she only ate
- 1:27:24Speaker 13: at McDonald's.
- 1:27:25Speaker 20: Oh, that was my aunt.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: We're in France.
- 1:27:30Speaker 20: Oh, it was in Italy.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: It's probably somebody else's aunt.
- 1:27:33Speaker 20: But my aunt in Italy, yeah, she just, can I
- 1:27:37Speaker 20: get some ice?
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: Get some ice for me.
- 1:27:40Speaker 9: I hate ice.
- 1:27:40Speaker 8: And she got there.
- 1:27:41Speaker 14: I told her and told her, please tell them, tell
- 1:27:46Speaker 14: your credit card people that you're going to be traveling.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: She didn't.
- 1:27:50Speaker 20: She got there with no money. And she had brought
- 1:27:53Speaker 20: her bills. To pay.
- 1:27:57Speaker 14: She's like, now where can I cash a check?
- 1:28:02Speaker 9: America?
- 1:28:03Speaker 20: Back in the United States.
- 1:28:04Speaker 8: Back in the 80s in the United States.
- 1:28:08Speaker 20: You can't cash a check here.
- 1:28:09Speaker 14: They have their own banking system and they're really intense
- 1:28:13Speaker 14: about it.
- 1:28:14Speaker 20: Your check means nothing.
- 1:28:16Speaker 14: And you're going to be back before these bills would
- 1:28:18Speaker 14: get back.
- 1:28:20Speaker 8: It was sad. Well, if anything, Americans traveling the world over,
- 1:28:25Speaker 8: take a cue from Lisa Simpson and slap a Canadian
- 1:28:27Speaker 8: flag on your backpack and just pretend like you're from Canada.
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: They won't hate you that way. Okay, I think we
- 1:28:34Speaker 8: should wrap this one up.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: What a mess.
- 1:28:38Speaker 8: Jesus Christ.
- 1:28:38Speaker 21: Can I make one super fast? time-sensitive endorsement? I feel
- 1:28:41Speaker 21: like the clock's running out on this one.
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:28:43Speaker 11: If you think that Wanderlust is a Jennifer Aniston movie,
- 1:28:47Speaker 11: go see it anyway because it's not.
- 1:28:49Speaker 21: It's a state movie and it's awesome.
- 1:28:51Speaker 20: All-run movie?
- 1:28:52Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:28:52Speaker 21: Well, it's a state movie.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Oh, it is the state movie.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: It is?
- 1:28:54Speaker 8: I had no idea. It's directed by that, really.
- 1:28:57Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Why are the commercials so horrible? Exactly.
- 1:29:00Speaker 21: And they don't show any of the cast members. It
- 1:29:02Speaker 21: is actually written, it's directed by David Wayne and it's
- 1:29:04Speaker 21: written by Ken Reno, David Wayne.
- 1:29:05Speaker 9: Oh my gosh.
- 1:29:06Speaker 24: I know, exactly.
- 1:29:07Speaker 21: Thank you, that's all I had to say.
- 1:29:08Speaker 8: That's what I heard.
- 1:29:08Speaker 10: That's so funny. This morning my boyfriend was saying, you'll
- 1:29:11Speaker 10: always give me a boner for some reason. It's from
- 1:29:14Speaker 10: the state.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I know.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I always want to know what I can dip my balls.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: In, so.
- 1:29:19Speaker 8: I just like a lot of pussy.
- 1:29:24Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: And I want to plug the cappuccino here. It has
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: been approved.
- 1:29:30Speaker 8: Approved by Fred.
- 1:29:31Speaker 21: All the coffee, actually.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: Especially the cappuccino.
- 1:29:34Speaker 10: Well, there's cappuccino. We don't just get plain foreign coffee
- 1:29:37Speaker 10: like Brian pours for us.
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: Hey, that's Oregon Trail coffee.
- 1:29:41Speaker 8: How much have you put up for it?
- 1:29:43Speaker 10: I'm kidding. Brian, your coffee is delicious. I was just joking.
- 1:29:49Speaker 10: I enjoy Thundermuck and Fishers and Fallers.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: They're like, this show's over now.
- 1:29:56Speaker 8: Just trying to mix it up and bring in some
- 1:29:58Speaker 8: new stuff. So with that, I do want to thank
- 1:30:01Speaker 8: you to Alan and having us here.
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Thanks, Alan.
- 1:30:05Speaker 8: Inviting us to come hang out.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: I hope you guys like the coffee. I've seen the
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: grass is greener in the green room. Like what I
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: did there. I was gonna keep a straight face. Y'all.
- 1:30:24Speaker 8: Oh, with that. Okay, kids, get out your decoder pens.
- 1:30:26Speaker 10: I think it would be cool if we all actually
- 1:30:30Speaker 10: got decoder pens.
- 1:30:31Speaker 8: As long as you finance them, I'm fine with it.
- 1:30:34Speaker 8: You always want things that you won't pay for. I mean,
- 1:30:38Speaker 8: I thank you once again while we're on that note.
- 1:30:41Speaker 8: I did want to say thank you to both Jeff
- 1:30:42Speaker 8: and Randy who have donated to the show in this
- 1:30:44Speaker 8: past week. Thank you. You guys are keeping the show running.
- 1:30:48Speaker 8: That's the only thing we have because every week we
- 1:30:50Speaker 8: kill whatever endorsement we have by whatever horrible things we
- 1:30:53Speaker 8: say that week.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: Is that true?
- 1:30:55Speaker 10: Does that really happen?
- 1:30:56Speaker 8: What?
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: Did we kill an endorsement?
- 1:30:58Speaker 8: Everything we've ever said. Who have we not talked shit about?
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, let's not let this back next week.
- 1:31:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, Alan's sick of this already. Until you
- 1:31:07Speaker 8: see our t-shirts, that's all.
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: I'm going to say.
- 1:31:10Speaker 14: Is there a week that we don't call somebody a slut?
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: Not normally, no.
- 1:31:17Speaker 9: When you said everybody should.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: The.
- 1:31:19Speaker 9: One time you said everybody should donate a dollar, did
- 1:31:21Speaker 9: lots of people donate a dollar?
- 1:31:22Speaker 8: We did have one person donate a dollar.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: That was me.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: I was hoping lots of people would, and that I
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: could be a part of that.
- 1:31:32Speaker 8: Yeah. I'd set that minimum price that I was going
- 1:31:36Speaker 8: to name people by name on there, so I didn't
- 1:31:39Speaker 8: want to screw over the guys who had donated over that,
- 1:31:42Speaker 8: but we did get a donation, and it was that one. So.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 1:31:47Speaker 23: It's like if 100 people donate a dollar, it's not
- 1:31:51Speaker 23: that hard.
- 1:31:52Speaker 8: I agree, but again, you saw how many did it.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: You. You just bought yourself a cookie.
- 1:31:59Speaker 8: Everybody else who didn't, thanks a lot. Oh, Lord.
- 1:32:02Speaker 24: So, as we said....
- 1:32:09Speaker 8: It is time for the Movie Meltdown Secret Circle reveal
- 1:32:10Speaker 8: of the next exciting feature. For you members of the
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: Secret Circle. And this one is, it's going to kill people.
- 1:32:17Speaker 8: Next week, we will be discussing Kill List. I'm not
- 1:32:22Speaker 8: sure what we're going to do with it, but it
- 1:32:24Speaker 8: will be interesting.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: Watch it.
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: Yeah, heads up, go find it now. Because you need
- 1:32:30Speaker 8: to watch it before we ruin the hell out of it.
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: So you've got a whole extra week heads up right now.
- 1:32:35Speaker 8: So go find it.
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:32:37Speaker 8: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 1:32:39Speaker 8: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:32:43Speaker 18: Black coffee is my name. Black coffee with not a thing.
- 1:32:53Speaker 18: Black coffee freshly ground. you see my skin is brown
- 1:33:17Speaker 18: but my mind is black but here's.
- 1:33:20Speaker 8: Black coffee it's white sack black.
- 1:33:23Speaker 16: Coffee black coffee black coffee.
- 1:33:43Speaker 8: Black teeth, black as can be.
- 1:33:49Speaker 18: Black teeth, can't compare with me. Black teeth, as good
- 1:33:57Speaker 18: as they can be. But a cup of black coffee
- 1:34:02Speaker 18: is what a working man gonna see. Yeah, America, the
- 1:34:09Speaker 18: land of the free. You can get what you want
- 1:34:13Speaker 18: if you got some do-re-mi. I started out as a slave.
- 1:34:17Speaker 18: I got free and got paid. Now I'm independent.
- 1:34:22Speaker 9: Ain't nobody's made.
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: I got me a place.
- 1:34:25Speaker 18: I got me a raise. Some mountain black coffee and
- 1:34:30Speaker 18: how good it tastes.
- 1:34:32Speaker 8: I die, I say, it's all you pay for.
- 1:34:36Speaker 18: A cup of black coffee here in the States.
- 1:34:40Speaker 8: Black coffee.
- 1:34:43Speaker 18: Woo!
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Black COVID!
- 1:34:45Speaker 5: Black COVID!
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Everybody's good on coffee. No more coffee?
- 1:35:15Speaker 14: You're going to have to stop saying the word coffee.
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: Because I'll fill up again.
- 1:35:20Speaker 12: That's why I'm afraid to even get much closer to
- 1:35:24Speaker 12: the mic very often, because I will talk about coffee.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
