- 0:02Fast like a NASCAR race car. Fast like a NASCAR race car.
- 0:10Happy Thursday morning, everybody.
- 0:14Tate Bomber from up there in Wisconsin.
- 0:17He's a buddy of mine. He's off centered just like I
- 0:21am. That's why I like him.
- 0:23Hi, Tate. So he sends me this video from
- 0:28YouTube out of nowhere, just sends me a video and I click on
- 0:31it and it it's 17 years old. It's a rapper.
- 0:36And he's like fast, like a nice car, race car fast.
- 0:41I said Tate is it's goofy as hell, but it's kind of catchy.
- 0:45He goes, Yep, Oh, it was funny, man.
- 0:50All right, King Louie on his perch today.
- 0:55Today's topic is it might not go 8 minutes.
- 0:58We'll we'll see how it goes, but you know, I told Charlie Marlowe
- 1:05Charlie every coffee with Kenny is not going to be a winner.
- 1:09They're all not going to get thousands of views and it's hard
- 1:14for me to talk racing all the time.
- 1:18I'm, I can talk racing 99% of the time, but you know, I'm, I
- 1:25am a, I'm not a great philosopher, but I am I, I
- 1:31remember and I'm a good study. I study stuff.
- 1:35So returning people's phone calls, the older you get.
- 1:46I want to address this subject. I realize that, you know, we all
- 1:52don't want to return some phone calls and some phone calls we
- 1:55want to return. Let me explain myself.
- 2:00So there are people. Now listen, I I've addressed
- 2:06this subject two years ago and I remember when I did.
- 2:09But this, this one's a little different.
- 2:13Chris Blair, the general manager of the Worldwide Technology
- 2:18racer. Chris is a good friend of mine
- 2:21and I addressed this subject couple years ago and he calls me
- 2:24and he goes, hey, I always return your phone calls.
- 2:26I said yes you do, yes you do. However, there are a group of
- 2:33people that think that if they take their time returning a
- 2:37phone call that that makes them look busy and it makes them, you
- 2:41know, in their own mind they think they're big time.
- 2:45Well, it makes me think you're unorganized and you don't got
- 2:48your together. You should easily be able to
- 2:51return a phone call that day, OK, If not a quick text.
- 2:57You're you're not that important.
- 3:00You are not that important. OK.
- 3:03I don't care who you are. I don't care if you're Jeff
- 3:06Gordon. You're Ray Everingham.
- 3:07You're Ray Kennedy's Rodger Penske returns my calls all the
- 3:11time. Yes.
- 3:13So you're not that. You're not that important.
- 3:16All right, Just remember, I just those are not the names.
- 3:20I'm just saying those are famous people.
- 3:22So they all return my call. But there's a there there's
- 3:26something that that bothered me that I did.
- 3:32And I don't want you all to make the same mistake.
- 3:38My dad and the great Dick Trickle and I'm guilty of this
- 3:44and I want to share my guilt with you.
- 3:49Dick Trickle late in his life when he would call me, I knew, I
- 3:54knew it would be a one hour phone call.
- 3:56And there's times that I didn't have an hour because I was
- 3:59young. I was in NASCAR steel and I was
- 4:02in the game. It pains me to this day that
- 4:06sometimes I'd look down and it would be Dick calling and I'm
- 4:08like, damn, you know, I'm in the garage area.
- 4:13You know, I'm somewhere. But I should have took that
- 4:16phone call, said, hey, Dick, I'm in the garage area.
- 4:20So Tuesday night I'm in the movie theater, my insurance man,
- 4:26Adam Callaway. Adam calls me and I, you know,
- 4:31the previews are starting. I answer is Adam, I'm in the
- 4:35movies. Oh, shoot, man, sorry.
- 4:37Let you go then. Oh, Ryan Hamilton, a good friend
- 4:44of mine, race car driver from around here calls me.
- 4:48I don't answer it, but I look down.
- 4:50He goes, sorry, forgot it's movie night.
- 4:55You see what I'm saying? If you're not going to answer
- 4:58somebody's call, just respond. Say something.
- 5:03Don't do like I did. You know, I should have said, I
- 5:08should have texted back real quick.
- 5:09I should have said something to Dick Trickle.
- 5:13Now I I answered his calls 99% of the time, but there's a
- 5:16couple times I didn't because I didn't have the time and I knew
- 5:20that it was going to be an hour long phone call.
- 5:24Same with my dad Russ. To this day, I, I still feel
- 5:29some guilt, but I'm OK with dad because Dad and myself, we'd go
- 5:33to lunch just about every week, every other week at Mcalister's
- 5:36Deli. They're on Bruton Smith Blvd.
- 5:41But there's a handful of you out there that need to hear this.
- 5:46When you get old like me, you get to be 62 years old.
- 5:49A lot of people want attention. They're bored and they're
- 5:53thinking, you know what, Now this is the most important part
- 5:57of this. I want you to hear.
- 6:00When you're heroes like AJ Foyd, Mario Andretti, when they get
- 6:05older, you know what's going on in their head.
- 6:08They're like, you know what, I've been in a hurry my whole
- 6:12life. Now that I'm retired and I don't
- 6:15compete anymore, I'm going to call some of my friends that I
- 6:18neglected. Sometimes some of those friends
- 6:24are younger and they're busy. Always answer people's calls
- 6:31now. If you don't like them, I get
- 6:32it. Don't answer them, you know, Or
- 6:35if you're busy and you can't answer, you can't answer it.
- 6:38Don Perdon calls me all the time.
- 6:40I answer. I answer it every time.
- 6:43The snakes retired. Hey, Don, somebody's going to
- 6:48tell you about this and you're going to be listening to this.
- 6:51I answer everybody's calls all the time because it's the right
- 6:58thing to do and we're not too busy.
- 7:03Well, we're at 7 minutes and 11 seconds and I'm done.
- 7:06But I'm going to go ahead and stroke it out because that would
- 7:08make Charlie happy. I'm sorry that this is not about
- 7:13racing. I'm sorry it's not about
- 7:15controversy. But sometimes in life, you know,
- 7:20it's not always about what you're doing.
- 7:22It's not always about racing, racing, racing.
- 7:27You know, it's a light. It's like people that make hit
- 7:30songs all they got all these hit songs and they make a song that
- 7:34they just wanted to make and it's not a hit, but it's got to
- 7:37be made. And all the other people in the
- 7:40music industry was like, man, I dig that song and nobody likes
- 7:44it because man, I just had to make that song.
- 7:46It's a good song. So with today, this is something
- 7:50that I had to say. So my message to all of you is
- 7:54pick the mother fucking phone up one way or the other and he
- 8:00can't pick it up. Respond quickly with why you
- 8:02can't pick it up. I don't want you to regret it
- 8:05like I did. Have a great Thursday,
- 8:09everybody.
