Speaker 4: Of course, the big story and we've covered it on
• 1:39
Speaker 4: the news all morning, we'll continue on a metro news midday.
• 1:41
Speaker 4: Was the more flooding. Uh, and you're at least in
• 1:46
Speaker 4: the Kanaw Valley or at least Willoman know it's not
• 1:48
Speaker 4: the kanav Valley. But on the turnpike was the disruption
• 1:51
Speaker 4: and travel. We had people that were trapped on the
• 1:54
Speaker 4: turnpike upwards of seven or eight hours yesterday. And uh,
• 1:59
Speaker 4: we'll talk talk a little bit about that on the
• 2:01
Speaker 4: local show, but so we'll primarily get into that to
• 2:03
Speaker 4: actually talk to some people that were trapped on the
• 2:06
Speaker 4: Turnpike for seven or eight hours on that Metro News Midday.
• 2:09
Speaker 4: Coming up on this show today we have, of course,
• 2:13
Speaker 4: it is Friday, which means Angie gilden Water from the
• 2:15
Speaker 4: Ganaala Charleston. You main association with this week's Adopt Me
• 2:17
Speaker 4: please pat of the Week Doctor Casey Sacks Abridge Valley

• 2:23
Speaker 4: a little bit later on as well, and across the
• 2:25
Speaker 4: way from me, I have our good friend. You don't
• 2:28
Speaker 4: have to wave, we're not on camera. It's Amy Breedlove.
• 2:31
Speaker 4: How you doing fine?
• 2:32
  Speaker 5: How are you?
• 2:33
Speaker 4: I am doing fine? Amy, of course is a native Charlestonian.
• 2:37
Speaker 4: And I've had actually guest hosted for me a couple
• 2:40
Speaker 4: of a year or so ago, two years something like that.
• 2:44
Speaker 4: Yeah you did? Did you came in on a Friday?
• 2:47
Speaker 4: I did, Yes, And then I had you on Metro
• 2:49
Speaker 4: News Midday just a couple of weeks ago, and you
• 2:51
Speaker 4: and the family in town for summer. So appreciate you
• 2:54
Speaker 4: being here. Talk to you a little bit later. And
• 2:57
Speaker 4: by the way, next Thursday, I am going to be
• 3:00
Speaker 4: taking off. I get Amanda gets a week vacation, I
• 3:04
Speaker 4: get one day and I'm not quite I'm not really
• 3:06
  Speaker 4: happy about that.
• 3:06
Speaker 5: I wan you to do that.
• 3:08
Speaker 4: I'm kidding, I'm kidding, but I am taking next week off.
• 3:10
Speaker 4: So Amy's gonna be guest hosting for me next week
• 3:13
Speaker 4: on this show. Yes you are. Yeah, I forgot to
• 3:16
Speaker 4: tell you that. Yeah, you're hosting. You're hosting the local
• 3:18
Speaker 4: show next Thursday. Good nine to ten.
• 3:21
Speaker 5: Hopefully I'll know which buttons to push.
• 3:24
Speaker 4: Now, that's why we have a producer.
• 3:25
  Speaker 6: You're good.
• 3:26
Speaker 4: All you gotta do is show up a script.
• 3:29
Speaker 5: That's all I have to have.
• 3:30
Speaker 4: Scripts, are you? Oh good? I got a bunch of them.
• 3:34
  Speaker 2: I got it.
• 3:34
Speaker 4: But we're gonna get talked to Amy a little bit
• 3:36
Speaker 4: later on the show. You're gonna be hearing a lot
• 3:38
Speaker 4: from her. So let's go and bringing Angie Gillenwater from
• 3:41
Speaker 4: the Gonaal Charleston Humaine Association with this week's adopt Me.
• 3:44
Speaker 4: Please put her the week Angie, Good morning, Good morning,
• 3:48
Speaker 4: and Angie. This is Amy Amy, this is Angie.
• 3:51
Speaker 7: Hello, it's nice to meet Nice to meet you to Angie.
• 3:54
Speaker 4: All right, so let's get into some news before we
• 3:58
Speaker 4: introduce how it out me. Please spend of the weekend.
• 4:00
Speaker 4: As always, the pictures posted on Dave Allen Radio and
• 4:04
Speaker 4: Facebook and at Dave seventy on actual We had a
• 4:06
Speaker 4: great We got a cat this week too, So that's
• 4:08
Speaker 4: good news because Idio is kitten season, right it.
• 4:12
Speaker 7: Is exploding kitten season. It is they are falling out
• 4:16
Speaker 7: of our doors. There are so many kittens.
• 4:18
Speaker 4: How many do you have? Approximately?
• 4:21
Speaker 7: There are over at least one hundred and fifty cats
• 4:24
Speaker 7: in our care right now. A lot of them are
• 4:26
Speaker 7: in foster homes, but over one fifty.
• 4:29
Speaker 4: Well, the cat that we have that is today is
• 4:31
Speaker 4: not a kitten. He's around five years old. His name
• 4:33
Speaker 4: is Turbo. Tell us about Turbo, so Turbo.
• 4:38
Speaker 7: Is aptly named. He is living at the Pet Cockpit
• 4:41
Speaker 7: Houses as we call it, in Southbridge. When we first
• 4:45
Speaker 7: took Turbo up there, he had been freshly neutered. He
• 4:48
Speaker 7: kind of didn't know where he was at, and he
• 4:51
Speaker 7: escaped from Seth, who is our volunteer coordinator, and Seth
• 4:55
Speaker 7: was chasing in their help the pet cohost store, but
• 5:00
Speaker 7: Seth was able to secure Turbo. He is much calmer now.
• 5:04
Speaker 7: He has slowed down incredibly. He no longer tries to escape.
• 5:09
Speaker 7: But Turbo is just the sweetest cat. He loves getting
• 5:12
Speaker 7: his head scratched, loves wet food, just your definition of
• 5:16
  Speaker 7: a lazy cat.
• 5:17
Speaker 5: Oh, does he like other does he like other animals?
• 5:20
Speaker 5: Does he mind being around puppies?
• 5:24
Speaker 7: So dogs? I am not entirely sure. He actually belonged
• 5:28
Speaker 7: to a colony in Tent City in Saint Albans, so
• 5:31
Speaker 7: we know he has lived around other cats, and I'm
• 5:33
Speaker 7: sure he's come across dogs in his lifetime as well.
• 5:37
Speaker 7: But cats, for sure. With slow intros, cats are always
• 5:40
Speaker 7: dramatic at first when you take him home, it's an
• 5:43
Speaker 7: introducing new cats. So but give him a couple of
• 5:47
Speaker 7: days with some new cat take it slow, and I'm
• 5:49
Speaker 7: sure dogs would not be an issue if you also
• 5:51
  Speaker 7: took it slow.
• 5:52
Speaker 5: That's a good thing. He's adorable, he is.
• 5:55
Speaker 7: He has such a sweetheart.
• 5:58
Speaker 4: Now, you folks just got a some kind of a
• 6:01
Speaker 4: big award at the shelter. I saw on your social
• 6:03
Speaker 4: media talk about that.
• 6:05
Speaker 7: So we received a official no Kill Shelter plaque from
• 6:09
Speaker 7: Best Friends Animal Society, and yeah, we're super excited about it.
• 6:16
Speaker 7: But it is a plaque awarded to shelters that saves
• 6:19
Speaker 7: over ninety percent of the animals that come into their care,
• 6:23
Speaker 7: and we're very proud to say that last year we
• 6:25
Speaker 7: had a ninety seven percent thing prae.
• 6:28
Speaker 5: Wow, that is fantastic, yeap.
• 6:32
Speaker 7: Our facebook post really put it into perspective. That means
• 6:35
Speaker 7: literally almost every animal that came into our care, no
• 6:38
Speaker 7: matter what condition they were in, almost every single one
• 6:41
Speaker 7: of them was adopted.
• 6:43
Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, I love it. Am I allowed to
• 6:45
Speaker 5: ask how many dogs are for adoption too, So as.
• 6:50
Speaker 7: Far as available for adoption, I would say that number
• 6:52
Speaker 7: is in the one hundred range, and that I would
• 6:55
Speaker 7: say we probably have another one hundred in foster care
• 6:58
Speaker 7: because they're too small, or they're they're stick anything like that.
• 7:03
Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, you got a lot.
• 7:06
Speaker 4: And did I see that you guys at this time
• 7:08
Speaker 4: with dog? What are you doing about taking in new
• 7:11
Speaker 4: animals at this time unless they're sick or something like that.
• 7:15
Speaker 4: You're really not able to right now, Angie.
• 7:17
Speaker 7: Right correct. So we are having to turn away healthy
• 7:20
Speaker 7: adult dogs or owner surrenders at this time and limit
• 7:24
Speaker 7: intake to animals that need immediate medical attention. So it's
• 7:28
Speaker 7: been tough. We're trying to do what we can by
• 7:31
Speaker 7: handing out supplies to people that need it. For their
• 7:33
Speaker 7: healthy adult dogs in the meantime until we can take them.
• 7:36
Speaker 7: So we've been handing out creates, dog food, leashes, anything
• 7:41
Speaker 7: you might need to keep an animal secure for at
• 7:43
Speaker 7: least a week or two.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: Nine to fifteen The Dave Island showing five Any Live
• 7:47
Speaker 4: is brought to you in parted by Husband's Pizza. This month
• 7:49
Speaker 4: get a large at Nitch Pepperoni Pizza and a whole
• 7:51
Speaker 4: tenants sub only twenty three to ninety nine. Find your
• 7:54
Speaker 4: closest hustands for delivery, pickup or dining in by going
• 7:56
Speaker 4: to Husbandspizza dot com. Now, we had some good news
• 7:58
Speaker 4: with that award, but we all so had some Some
• 8:01
Speaker 4: pretty horrific stories came out of the shelter this week, Angie, Right.
• 8:05
Speaker 7: We certainly did. We actually got in a mom and
• 8:08
Speaker 7: puppies that were left outside in this heat. One of
• 8:13
Speaker 7: our staff member's husband just happened to be driving by
• 8:15
Speaker 7: and saw this mama dog practically flag him down. She
• 8:19
Speaker 7: was barking and chasing his car on an old dirt
• 8:22
Speaker 7: road and nobody travels. He rolls down his window to
• 8:25
Speaker 7: just you know, check on her, and he hears puppies
• 8:27
Speaker 7: crying in the distance and finds them in a cardboard
• 8:30
Speaker 7: box with no shade, no water, no food, and so
• 8:34
Speaker 7: he gets the puppies to us. We you know, they're
• 8:37
Speaker 7: hot to the touch, so we're suspecting that they are
• 8:40
Speaker 7: having you know, heat exhaustion, heat stroke. Two of the
• 8:43
Speaker 7: puppies passed away from Oregon failure due to being outside
• 8:47
Speaker 7: in the sun. And then one puppy right now is
• 8:49
Speaker 7: currently in critical condition. She actually had a sunburn so
• 8:54
Speaker 7: bad that it has caused her skin to fall off.
• 8:56
  Speaker 5: Oh my god.
• 8:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty horrible. Uh story. Uh there, And
• 9:02
Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna save editorial comments on how humans
• 9:05
Speaker 4: suck uh so for for for another time.
• 9:09
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 9:09
Speaker 4: We did have a text here that says from somebody
• 9:12
Speaker 4: that says that they saw Turbo at Petco and he
• 9:15
Speaker 4: was such a sweetie. He loves to play with Okay,
• 9:18
Speaker 4: hold on a second, my text disappeared. Uh loves to
• 9:22
Speaker 4: loves to play with his uh uh loves you to
• 9:25
Speaker 4: rub his head against your finger through the plexiglass. So, yes, Turbo,
• 9:31
Speaker 4: as you said, Turbo is a fine Now, was Turbo
• 9:34
Speaker 4: at the Petco in uh in Tays Valley or the
• 9:36
Speaker 4: one out on the corridor so.
• 9:38
Speaker 7: He's at the one on South Ridge on the corridor.
• 9:42
Speaker 7: We will soon have kitties moving into the Tays Valley
• 9:44
Speaker 7: pet co very very soon, so we're excited about that.
• 9:48
Speaker 4: And I'll have to say, it was nice for me
• 9:50
Speaker 4: to I told you yesterday or last week on the
• 9:52
Speaker 4: air that I was gonna come see you, and my
• 9:54
Speaker 4: wife and I were out running some arons on on
• 9:56
Speaker 4: Saturday and we stopped by and it was great to
• 9:59
Speaker 4: It was great to see you, to meet Seth there
• 10:00
  Speaker 4: last Saturday.
• 10:02
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 10:02
Speaker 7: Absolutely, we love seeing you. And we definitely appreciated the
• 10:05
Speaker 7: donation of towels that you gave us. We certainly needed them.
• 10:09
Speaker 4: And that's what I wanted to bring this up. They
• 10:11
Speaker 4: need towels amy up there because their dryer is on
• 10:15
Speaker 4: the fritz and it's in an Angela.
• 10:18
Speaker 5: All plenty of old towels.
• 10:19
Speaker 4: There you go, Yeah, there you gone.
• 10:21
Speaker 5: Oh and I have a question too, what about volunteer opportunities.
• 10:25
Speaker 7: So volunteers in this weather with as many animals as
• 10:29
Speaker 7: we have, we absolutely need volunteers. And Seth that you
• 10:32
Speaker 7: heard me mention, is in charge of our volunteers. So
• 10:36
Speaker 7: you can just come up to the shelter anytime. Let
• 10:38
Speaker 7: seth know you want to volunteer and we will. Trust me,
• 10:40
Speaker 7: we've got something for you to do.
• 10:42
Speaker 5: Oh my goodness, I'm coming up.
• 10:43
Speaker 4: But explain that to the people why it is that
• 10:45
Speaker 4: you need the towels. Again, I didn't do a very
• 10:47
Speaker 4: good job of explaining explaining why it is you need
• 10:49
  Speaker 4: the towels.
• 10:50
Speaker 7: Oh gotcha. So any type of linens, blanket, towel, sheet,
• 10:53
Speaker 7: we use it all. Our dryer actually caught on fire
• 10:57
Speaker 7: and well roake it is in the process. One of
• 11:01
Speaker 7: them is totally done for. It is a ten twenty
• 11:05
Speaker 7: thousand dollars purchase for one of these industrial dryers. We
• 11:08
Speaker 7: have small dryers throughout the shelter that can take small loads.
• 11:11
Speaker 7: But again these days have lots of animals that we
• 11:15
Speaker 7: are taking care of, so you know, the small dryers
• 11:17
Speaker 7: can only do so much. So that is why we
• 11:21
Speaker 7: are having to request for blanket donations. A lot of
• 11:24
Speaker 7: our linens are outside hanging up drying. And if you
• 11:28
Speaker 7: haven't noticed, it's been you know, raining sporadically throughout today.
• 11:33
Speaker 7: So we put them out to dry. They'll get almost dried.
• 11:36
Speaker 7: Then here comes rainstorm so and they're re wet. So
• 11:39
Speaker 7: it's it's been an uphill battle with dry linens perfect.
• 11:43
Speaker 5: I have blankets too, I have sheets. I was looking
• 11:46
Speaker 5: at my linen closet yesterday and I'm like, I have
• 11:47
Speaker 5: way too many sheets. So there you go.
• 11:50
Speaker 4: So it looks like you're going to get a visit
• 11:51
Speaker 4: from Amy coming up a little bit later on, just
• 11:53
Speaker 4: so you know ahead of time. Great, all right, we
• 11:56
Speaker 4: look forward to it, all right, angel I do as
• 11:58
Speaker 4: always appreciate you being here. You get the next week
• 12:01
Speaker 4: off because we're not doing a show on July fourth,
• 12:03
Speaker 4: but we'll talk to you here in a couple of weeks.
• 12:04
Speaker 7: Okay, alrighty sounds great. I'll have a good one as.
• 12:08
Speaker 4: Well, Angie Gilliwater from then Cannell and Charleston. You made
• 12:10
Speaker 4: association with Turbo Amy. This week's doctor phone was so
• 12:14
Speaker 4: cute a pet of the week picture posted over on
• 12:17
Speaker 4: a Dave Island Radio on Facebook and at Dave a
• 12:19
Speaker 4: seventy on X. Sounds like he would be a perfect
• 12:21
Speaker 4: little gentleman. And I'm always on Angie got text here
• 12:24
Speaker 4: every Thursday night and kind of remind her to send
• 12:26
Speaker 4: me a pet. And last night she said, and I
• 12:28
Speaker 4: put like just dog question mark and she says, No,
• 12:31
Speaker 4: We're doing a cat this week, which makes me happy
• 12:33
Speaker 4: because I like dogs too, but I'm a cat person too.
• 12:36
Speaker 5: I like all animals absolutely. And the best thing about
• 12:39
Speaker 5: Turbo for me is because he's out of the kiddy
• 12:42
Speaker 5: stage too. He's five, so you know he's not going
• 12:44
Speaker 5: to be going around.
• 12:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, although he's the curtain. He is an escape artist though,
• 12:49
Speaker 4: as you heard at the beginning, he got out in petco.
• 12:52
Speaker 4: But once you get I mean, you know, once you
• 12:54
Speaker 4: get him inside the full environment. But he is already
• 12:57
Speaker 4: neutered and he's already vaccinated five years old. Herbo is
• 13:00
Speaker 4: his named. Beautiful cat picture posted Go Adopt Turbo. Dave

• 15:21
Speaker 4: We had a question and we'll get to doctor Casey
• 15:24
Speaker 4: Sachs here from Bridge Valley momentarily. But we had a
• 15:26
Speaker 4: question yesterday when I said you were going to be here,
• 15:28
Speaker 4: you of course were on the air at V one hundred.
• 15:30
Speaker 4: Did we determine when that was.
• 15:32
Speaker 5: Ninety five through ninety nine?
• 15:37
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, keep talking because we're having some issues
• 15:39
Speaker 4: here getting doctor Casey Sachs.
• 15:41
Speaker 5: So oh uh ninety five through ninety nine?
• 15:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay? And what was your air name here?
• 15:50
Speaker 5: It was? I had two air names, Amy Nutter and
• 15:53
  Speaker 5: also Amy Rain.
• 15:54
Speaker 4: Okay, Amy, I like Amy Rain? Where did that come from?
• 15:57
Speaker 5: I because I love the rain?
• 16:00
  Speaker 4: All right?
• 16:00
Speaker 5: There you came out of the air.
• 16:03
Speaker 4: And of course Amy Nutter was was your maiden name.
• 16:06
Speaker 5: That's how I believe I was going to go with
• 16:08
Speaker 5: Amy Delaney because when I was in Anchorage, my on
• 16:10
Speaker 5: air name was Delaney Parks.
• 16:12
Speaker 4: So but where did the Delaney come from?
• 16:16
Speaker 5: There is a Delaney Park strip in Anchorage. It's like
• 16:20
Speaker 5: the central Park of Anchorage. So I was Delaney Parks.
• 16:23
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 16:24
Speaker 5: My boss actually wanted me to be Marsha Potter because
• 16:26
  Speaker 5: there's Potter's Marsh. I really don't want to be a Marsha,
• 16:32
Speaker 5: not that there's anything wrong with the mar Marsh is beautiful,
• 16:34
Speaker 5: but I wouldn't you Delaney felt more like me?
• 16:37
Speaker 4: Okay. And of course you're now a world renowned, much
• 16:40
Speaker 4: sought after voiceover artists, and that's what you know. We
• 16:42
Speaker 4: had you on the air to talk about that, and
• 16:44
Speaker 4: we'll have you on. But you're back in town. You're
• 16:47
Speaker 4: and your husband for the summer. Is that right?
• 16:48
  Speaker 5: Correct?
• 16:49
Speaker 4: And so I appreciate you stopping mind hanging out with us,
• 16:51
Speaker 4: and you're gonna let you host the show next Thursday.
• 16:53
Speaker 4: I think we do have doctor Casey Sachs, now of
• 16:55
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley. Doctor Sachs, Welcome to the show.
• 16:58
Speaker 12: Good morning, Gabe. How how are you today?
• 17:00
Speaker 4: I am doing fine. I've got with me Amy Breedlove,
• 17:03
Speaker 4: who is a native of Charleston, who is a much
• 17:06
Speaker 4: sought after, world renowned I keep adding these superlatives voiceover artist.
• 17:11
Speaker 4: And so Amy meet doctor Sacks, Doctor Sax, meet Amy.
• 17:16
Speaker 5: Hello, nice to meet you.
• 17:17
  Speaker 12: Pleasure you too.
• 17:18
Speaker 4: I was telling Amy, I was telling Amy a little
• 17:21
Speaker 4: bit of your story, doctor Sax, about how you aren't
• 17:24
Speaker 4: from West Virginia. But as the saying goes, you got
• 17:25
Speaker 4: here as quickly as you could. Right, you like it?
• 17:27
Speaker 12: Here, and you know I've chosen it twice.
• 17:30
Speaker 4: Wow, I didn't know you chose it twice.
• 17:32
  Speaker 5: Fantastic.
• 17:33
Speaker 4: Tell us that story real quick and then we'll get
• 17:35
Speaker 4: into why you're here. But go ahead.
• 17:37
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 17:37
Speaker 12: I moved to West Virginia in twenty sixteen, and then
• 17:40
Speaker 12: I moved to Washington, DC to work in the first
• 17:42
Speaker 12: Trump administration, and then when that was over, I moved
• 17:45
Speaker 12: back to West Virginia in twenty twenty one.
• 17:48
Speaker 4: What is it about this place that made you want
• 17:49
Speaker 4: to come back here twice? Because you're not from here,
• 17:51
Speaker 4: So what made you want to come here?
• 17:53
Speaker 12: There's nowhere prettier than West Virginia right on.
• 18:00
Speaker 4: So you got a lot of stuff going on out there,
• 18:02
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley, and I want to talk a little bit
• 18:05
Speaker 4: about some of you had your first Win Academy student
• 18:08
Speaker 4: to become a nurse. Tell us about that.
• 18:10
Speaker 12: Oh my gosh, yes, Save You've got to be so
• 18:13
Speaker 12: excited for his kids.
• 18:15
  Speaker 7: So the Win.
• 18:16
Speaker 12: Academy, as longtime listeners are aware, is an early college
• 18:19
Speaker 12: starter high school that I Bridge Valley, so students do
• 18:23
Speaker 12: college while they do high school. We had a young
• 18:28
Speaker 12: man graduate from high school last year and he spent
• 18:31
Speaker 12: this year finishing up his nursing degree and he just
• 18:34
Speaker 12: passed his Nurse Nursing State boards, so he's a full
• 18:37
Speaker 12: fledged RN. Now he's one year out of high school
• 18:40
Speaker 12: and he's exceptional. Wow, a better smile.
• 18:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, And because Amy's new here, explain to her and
• 18:46
Speaker 4: maybe some of the listeners that are listening for the
• 18:48
Speaker 4: first time what the WIN Academy is.
• 18:51
Speaker 12: So what we did was we started an early college
• 18:54
Speaker 12: high school with the college. And the way those work
• 18:57
Speaker 12: is that kids decide, gosh, I want to nurse or
• 19:00
Speaker 12: I want to go into manufacturing, and they come and
• 19:03
Speaker 12: they do that curriculum while they're in high school, so
• 19:06
Speaker 12: it really gets them ahead. They get a huge head start.
• 19:09
Speaker 12: They're taking college classes. So it is really hard, and
• 19:12
Speaker 12: we try and be very honest with families upfront that
• 19:15
Speaker 12: there are kids who want to do this and who
• 19:17
Speaker 12: are really excited, and they are kids who are like, yeah,
• 19:20
Speaker 12: this is maybe not quite as easy as I wanted
• 19:23
Speaker 12: it to be, and that's okay. It's great to grow
• 19:26
Speaker 12: up a little bit and then decide to go to school,
• 19:29
Speaker 12: but for people who are ready, it's a terrific opportunity
• 19:31
Speaker 12: to earn all these college credits completely free and really
• 19:35
Speaker 12: get a jump start on your career.
• 19:37
Speaker 5: I love it. Education, it's the best.
• 19:39
Speaker 4: Well, and again we're talking about these kids that are
• 19:42
Speaker 4: this young man is just what do you say, doctor?
• 19:44
Speaker 4: A year out of high school and he's already in
• 19:46
  Speaker 4: r M.
• 19:47
  Speaker 13: That's right.
• 19:48
Speaker 4: And in West Virginia we have an incredible nursing shortage.
• 19:51
Speaker 4: I mean we have we have an incredible nursing shortage.
• 19:54
Speaker 4: And for this gentleman to where was he from? If
• 19:57
Speaker 4: you don't mimad, was he a local guy here in
• 19:58
Speaker 4: Charleston or where was he?
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: You know?
• 20:00
  Speaker 12: Local local kids?
• 20:03
Speaker 4: Okay, very good? I mean, and as long as a're
• 20:05
Speaker 4: getting in education, they're greed to stay here in West Virginia.
• 20:08
Speaker 4: And that's a big part of it too, because we
• 20:11
Speaker 4: play some local right.
• 20:13
Speaker 12: That's right. So almost everybody who graduates from Bridge Valley
• 20:16
Speaker 12: stays right in the valley. Right Around ninety percent of
• 20:20
Speaker 12: our graduates stay local, which is terrific. It's something we're
• 20:24
Speaker 12: really proud of. And we specifically are interested in serving
• 20:28
Speaker 12: people who live in Putnam County, Stayette County, Clay County,
• 20:31
  Speaker 12: and Kenna County.
• 20:32
  Speaker 4: Yeah, that's good stuff. I mean, you've got a lot
• 20:34
Speaker 4: of a lot of great things going on at Bridge Valley.
• 20:36
Speaker 4: Gain we're talking without doctor Casey Sachsobridge Valley to Day
• 20:38
Speaker 4: Island Show in five eighty Live is brought to you
• 20:40
Speaker 4: in part by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can
• 20:43
Speaker 4: cause a variety of health issues. Allergies, respiratory problems are more.
• 20:47
Speaker 4: Pinnacle offer specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial
• 20:51
Speaker 4: and industrial type settings. Visopinnacle Court dot net. Because what
• 20:54
Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt you. I know you do
• 20:56
Speaker 4: a lot of stuff with veterans there at Bridge Valley
• 20:59
Speaker 4: and something else that you've been into. As far as
• 21:02
Speaker 4: honoring veterans, being involved in veterans programs, talk about that
• 21:06
  Speaker 4: we do so.
• 21:07
Speaker 12: For years, Bridge Valley has been a proud recognition. We
• 21:11
Speaker 12: get the recognition of being a military friendly school. And
• 21:15
Speaker 12: this year the woman, one of the two women who
• 21:17
Speaker 12: runs that program, Tammy mccallahan. She has retired Army. She
• 21:22
Speaker 12: was up. She was nominated to be the twenty twenty
• 21:24
Speaker 12: five Veteran of Deer and she won. So Tammy is
• 21:28
Speaker 12: the Military Friendly Schools Veteran of Deer and she's right
• 21:31
Speaker 12: here local at Bridge Valley.
• 21:33
Speaker 4: We have a text question here, and I think this
• 21:36
Speaker 4: is a very good question to ask, and I'll let
• 21:39
Speaker 4: you explain it, Doctor Saxon, what said? Can I ask
• 21:41
Speaker 4: the difference between Bridge Valley and other schools, like say
• 21:44
  Speaker 4: Ben Franklin.
• 21:47
Speaker 12: Sure, there's several differences. Ben Franklin is part of the
• 21:52
Speaker 12: school district, and so they're specifically designed to serve folks
• 21:56
Speaker 12: who are still in high school, who are making other
• 22:00
Speaker 12: kinds of technical choices. They're a great open if they
• 22:03
Speaker 12: have a program that interests your family, I would certainly
• 22:07
Speaker 12: encourage you to send a kid there. Bridge Valley's a
• 22:10
Speaker 12: lot more focused on adults, are average ages thirty. We
• 22:14
Speaker 12: also are accredited differently than some of the local technical schools,
• 22:18
Speaker 12: so we are authorized by the US Department of Education
• 22:21
Speaker 12: to issue college degrees. So Bridge Valley is actually a
• 22:25
Speaker 12: college college. Ben Franklin can't do that. They could issue
• 22:30
Speaker 12: a certificate, or they could help you get some really
• 22:32
Speaker 12: good industry training. But if you're thinking about, you know,
• 22:35
Speaker 12: maybe five or ten years in the future, you want
• 22:37
Speaker 12: to go to Marshall or you want to go to
• 22:39
Speaker 12: WVU and be able to transfer and take those credits
• 22:41
Speaker 12: with you, you can only do that from Bridge Valley. You
• 22:44
Speaker 12: wouldn't be able to do it from a school like
• 22:46
  Speaker 12: Ben Franklin.
• 22:47
Speaker 4: All Right. The acronym that I think that most parents
• 22:52
Speaker 4: dread more than any as FAFSA, the Financial Aid program,
• 22:56
Speaker 4: and you guys workshops devoted to FASA. Talk about that.
• 23:01
  Speaker 7: Yep.
• 23:02
Speaker 12: So FASTA is the free application for Federal Student Aid.
• 23:06
Speaker 12: It has gotten better over here, it is. I can
• 23:12
Speaker 12: only say so much for it.
• 23:14
Speaker 4: All right, all right, are you there? I think we
• 23:17
Speaker 4: lost doctor Sachs. We lost doctor Sachs. So all right, well,
• 23:25
Speaker 4: uh that's some things happens technology. Yeah, you gotta love it.
• 23:31
Speaker 4: It's good. It's good when it works. Uh. Now, I
• 23:34
Speaker 4: think I think we pretty much covered everything with doctor
• 23:36
Speaker 4: sax So, well, the doctor Sachs. We do apologize for
• 23:39
Speaker 4: that if she well, she's calling back. Okay, all right,
• 23:44
Speaker 4: all right, doctor Sacks. We lost you, but you're there now, right.
• 23:48
Speaker 12: Great, So we're talking about the radio gods we're not interested.
• 23:53
  Speaker 4: Well, I mean I told you it's FASSA is. It's
• 23:56
Speaker 4: I won't say it's bad news, but it could be
• 23:58
Speaker 4: stressful for everybody, including the lines apparently, so go ahead,
• 24:02
  Speaker 4: that's right, that's right.
• 24:04
Speaker 12: So anyway, SASSA is a federal form that folks fill
• 24:07
Speaker 12: out to get access to federal student aid. And one
• 24:10
Speaker 12: of the things we found is that college is really
• 24:12
Speaker 12: affordable in community colleges, especially in West Virginia. Do you
• 24:16
Speaker 12: have to fill out this form? So we have dedicated
• 24:18
Speaker 12: support all through the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays to
• 24:22
Speaker 12: help people so that it doesn't seem too dark. All right?
• 24:26
Speaker 4: Where can people learn more about FAFSA, these workshops or
• 24:28
Speaker 4: anything else we got going on at Bridge Valley?
• 24:31
Speaker 12: Bridge fast to it's.
• 24:33
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley Dot ed you hey, doctor Sachs. If I
• 24:36
Speaker 4: don't talk to you, which I probably won't have yourself
• 24:38
Speaker 4: a good for the July holiday. We'll be talking to
• 24:40
Speaker 4: you again next month. How's that?
• 24:43
Speaker 12: Thank you? I was great fourth to July and it's
• 24:45
Speaker 12: so nice to meet you Amy.
• 24:46
  Speaker 5: You as well.
• 24:48
Speaker 4: All right, doctor Casey Sackson, Bridge Valley, appreciate you being here.
• 24:51
Speaker 4: Apologize for the technical difficulties it happens, as you may know,
• 24:55
Speaker 4: twenty eight minutes now in front of ten o'clock and
• 24:58
Speaker 4: we'll get to the Charleston did since run. Folks are
• 25:00
Speaker 4: going to stop by the studio here momentarily, but Amy,
• 25:02
Speaker 4: I want to go back to you just for a moment.
• 25:04
Speaker 4: I mean, we're very proud of our partnership that we
• 25:06
Speaker 4: have with the Bridge Valley because they're doing some incredible things.
• 25:09
Speaker 4: And I mean the fact that you can have a
• 25:11
Speaker 4: college student, I mean, what was a high school student
• 25:13
Speaker 4: and a year or so later they're now a full
• 25:15
Speaker 4: on r N when we have major nursing shortages in
• 25:20
Speaker 4: West Virginia. That's good stuff.
• 25:21
Speaker 5: What a fantastic resource it is. Indeed, it is awesome.
• 25:25
Speaker 4: It is. We had a little bit out in the
• 25:27
Speaker 4: green room earlier, a little bit of a Marshall University
• 25:31
Speaker 4: reunion because Amy and I were at Marshall at the
• 25:34
Speaker 4: same time in the early five years ago. Yea, more
• 25:40
Speaker 4: like in the early nineteen nineties. But Amy was there,
• 25:42
Speaker 4: I was there, seventy Paul who is our producer of
• 25:45
Speaker 4: Metro News Midday was there at that time. And ron Gasnick,
• 25:49
Speaker 4: who is one of our sales weasels here, Ronnie Lee,
• 25:52
Speaker 4: the famous Ronnie Lee WMO. We were all there at
• 25:55
Speaker 4: the same time, and we just had a little bit
• 25:57
Speaker 4: of a WMO reunion. It seems like it should be
• 26:00
Speaker 4: nineteen ninety all over again out there ninety one.
• 26:03
Speaker 5: Ye feels like it kind of. Yeah. Ron and I
• 26:07
Speaker 5: used to sit in the back of and he doesn't
• 26:08
Speaker 5: remember this, in the back of one of the Spanish
• 26:10
Speaker 5: classes and just chat chat chat chat chat.
• 26:13
Speaker 4: I can see that. I mean, especially on Ron's behalf.
• 26:15
  Speaker 4: That's why he's such a good salesman.
• 26:17
Speaker 5: I would say so.
• 26:18
Speaker 4: Right, all right, Amy Breedlove is here with us. She's
• 26:22
Speaker 4: going to be serving as a host for me next Thursday,
• 26:24
Speaker 4: but she's also hanging out with me today. We're going
• 26:26
Speaker 4: to talk about the Charleston Distance Run when we come
• 26:29
Speaker 4: back here momentarily. If you want to weigh in on anything,

Speaker 4: Yes, all right, howdy See you've only been to West

• 29:51
  Speaker 4: That's a good sign, right, Yeah, I.
• 29:52
Speaker 5: Said, y'all the other day to one of my students
• 29:54
Speaker 5: and they're like, y'all and I'm like, well.
• 29:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, I said yesterday on Metro New Midday, you know,
• 30:00
Speaker 4: because I'm a proud southern West Virginian and Dave Weekly
• 30:04
Speaker 4: and I on Hotline were going back and forth over
• 30:06
Speaker 4: something and I forget now what it was. He was
• 30:09
Speaker 4: coming into preview the show and I said, I'm gonna
• 30:11
Speaker 4: drop a little you know my family. I'm from Logan,
• 30:13
Speaker 4: but all my families from Wyoming County, And I said,
• 30:16
Speaker 4: I'm gonna drop a little Wyoming County on you, and
• 30:18
Speaker 4: I said, y'all have words for you fell out? Now
• 30:23
Speaker 4: does anybody here know what I just said? When I
• 30:24
Speaker 4: said y'all have words for you fell out? And you
• 30:26
Speaker 4: got to say it just like that. What it basically
• 30:28
Speaker 4: means is was there an argument before the separation occurred?
• 30:32
Speaker 4: That's what that means. But it comes out y'all have
• 30:34
Speaker 4: words for you fell out. So there you go. See
• 30:37
Speaker 4: you've learned something here today. From day there you go,
• 30:39
Speaker 4: I can tell you're fascinating. Got the ladies from the
• 30:42
Speaker 4: Charleston distance Runer, whether it's righting to introduce yourselves.
• 30:44
Speaker 13: I'm Trisha rob Lee and I am the leader of
• 30:48
Speaker 13: the Girl Gang Runners and Friends and also Charleston Distance
• 30:54
Speaker 13: Run Ambassador for twenty twenty five and I also was
• 30:59
Speaker 13: an ambai last year of all right, and we also
• 31:02
  Speaker 13: have I'm.
• 31:03
Speaker 8: Carol Phipps Haayde. I am the Charleston Distance Race Director.
• 31:07
Speaker 4: All right, So I'll talk about the history of the
• 31:08
  Speaker 4: distance run.
• 31:10
Speaker 8: Well, it started in nineteen seventy one and we're it's
• 31:18
Speaker 8: our fifty second year of the race and we're super excited.
• 31:23
Speaker 8: We basically travel all over the city of Charleston. We
• 31:26
Speaker 8: start currently at the Capitol and we end at Laidley
• 31:31
Speaker 8: Field and we run up quarter Ge and run through
• 31:34
Speaker 8: Land Heights and then back down running through the streets
• 31:37
Speaker 8: of Charleston. So during the regatta, they wanted another event
• 31:43
Speaker 8: back in fifty two years ago, and so a group
• 31:46
Speaker 8: of guys decided that they would like to have a race,
• 31:50
Speaker 8: and they did the course and it turned out it
• 31:52
Speaker 8: was fifteen miles and so and then it was nicknamed
• 31:55
Speaker 8: America's fifteen mile Race. So that's kind of the history.
• 32:00
Speaker 4: And when is it this year?
• 32:02
Speaker 8: It is August thirtieth at seven point thirty.
• 32:05
Speaker 4: So it actually started as part of the regatta, but
• 32:07
Speaker 4: it's not a part of the regatta. This year, it's
• 32:09
  Speaker 4: it's moved. It's in August.
• 32:11
Speaker 8: Rank, yes, it's in August. So when the regatta they
• 32:14
Speaker 8: ended the regatta, we continued and then the regatta changed
• 32:18
Speaker 8: to over fourth of July, but we've always stayed over
• 32:22
  Speaker 8: Labor Day weekend.
• 32:23
Speaker 4: How many people take part in this approximately?
• 32:25
Speaker 8: Oh goodness, about a thousand people. We have so many.
• 32:29
Speaker 8: We have hundreds of volunteers, which we absolutely love. We
• 32:33
Speaker 8: couldn't do the race without our volunteers. And then we
• 32:37
Speaker 8: have about right now we have almost four hundred people
• 32:40
Speaker 8: signed up for our three races. So we have a
• 32:42
Speaker 8: fifteen mile race, which we're known for, we have a
• 32:46
Speaker 8: five k run and walk, and we have a relay
• 32:51
Speaker 8: as part of our fifteen miles, so people can run
• 32:54
Speaker 8: three miles, five miles, or seven miles, and so that
• 32:58
Speaker 8: takes three people to join us.
• 33:00
Speaker 4: You're getting a little bit more into my territory here.
• 33:03
Speaker 4: That's Victoria. She said you can run, you can walk,
• 33:06
Speaker 4: and I said drive and she said no, you cannot rive.
• 33:08
  Speaker 8: Please don't drive.
• 33:10
Speaker 4: So what this relay, what you're saying is I could
• 33:11
Speaker 4: get like fifteen of us here from the radio station.
• 33:14
Speaker 4: Because that's about that's about what it would take for
• 33:17
Speaker 4: us to do it. What is it about the running
• 33:20
Speaker 4: in general that that interest you any of you?
• 33:24
Speaker 13: To me, it's just like a social hour with my friends,
• 33:28
Speaker 13: because it's just a fun thing, and miles miles go
• 33:34
Speaker 13: by fact of your friends.
• 33:37
Speaker 4: To kind of melt away as your You.
• 33:39
Speaker 13: Don't realize how much you need your friends when you're
• 33:43
Speaker 13: out trying to get the miles in. It's much easier
• 33:46
Speaker 13: to give up quicker when you're alone. You have your
• 33:50
Speaker 13: friends pushing you. And also, you know, just just having
• 33:54
Speaker 13: like fun conversations on the run, and it's it's just
• 33:59
Speaker 13: you know, makes so for the pain that you.
• 34:03
Speaker 4: As a non runner, I would say the fact that
• 34:05
Speaker 4: you can run and talk at the same time, that
• 34:07
Speaker 4: would be a skill in and of itself. For me,
• 34:09
Speaker 4: I'm just saying it develops you get there.
• 34:12
Speaker 13: You get there with long distance mostly for me anyways,
• 34:16
Speaker 13: I mean endorphins. Yeah.
• 34:21
Speaker 4: And but you build this as America's fifteen miler, so
• 34:25
Speaker 4: I mean again this you've kind of got that brand
• 34:28
Speaker 4: and people always look forward to this thing.
• 34:30
Speaker 8: Every it's rain or shine, yes, just as long as
• 34:33
  Speaker 8: there's no lightning.
• 34:35
Speaker 4: No lightning just means you got to run faster, right.
• 34:37
Speaker 8: That's exactly right. And I tell you why I think
• 34:41
Speaker 8: people do enjoy the Charleston Distance Run is to just
• 34:46
Speaker 8: get out there and see. We encourage the community to
• 34:49
Speaker 8: come out and cheer people along. We've had numerous Olympians come.
• 34:55
Speaker 8: It has a rich history here in Charleston. And just
• 35:00
  Speaker 8: a few seconds ago, I'm wearing a kind of a
• 35:02
Speaker 8: vintage shirt right now from nineteen seventy nine and Amy
• 35:08
Speaker 8: and she was just like, oh my gosh, do you
• 35:09
Speaker 8: have shirts available? And we do have some of the
• 35:12
Speaker 8: older shirts because it is such enriched in our communities.
• 35:17
Speaker 8: When I go out and talk to people, they're like, oh, yeah,
• 35:20
Speaker 8: I remember seeing everybody used to run. And because it
• 35:24
Speaker 8: used to be over a couple of thousand people running
• 35:27
Speaker 8: through the streets of Charleston. And so now that there's
• 35:30
Speaker 8: so many races, it's we're just striving to about one thousand.
• 35:35
Speaker 5: Was it or is it still a qualifier for the
• 35:38
  Speaker 5: Boston Marathon.
• 35:39
Speaker 8: It is not a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. It
• 35:43
Speaker 8: has to be a half my or a third of
• 35:46
Speaker 8: true marathon to five for the Boston Marathon.
• 35:49
Speaker 4: Now, you give me some information here, a little QR
• 35:52
Speaker 4: code for something called girl Gang Runners and I like
• 35:55
Speaker 4: it spelled g r r L gang runners. Talk about this.
• 35:58
Speaker 13: Organization, Girl Gang Runners and friends now they started Actually
• 36:05
Speaker 13: I started it when I met a bunch of really
• 36:08
Speaker 13: cool ladies when I started running about six years ago
• 36:13
Speaker 13: five K races and that was really my jam for
• 36:16
Speaker 13: a really long time. And then I just kind of
• 36:19
Speaker 13: met a bunch of people and we showed up to
• 36:22
Speaker 13: all the races and ran together and thought, you know,
• 36:26
Speaker 13: maybe we could try this distance thing out. So ran
• 36:30
Speaker 13: a half marathon and decided, you know, I would like
• 36:33
Speaker 13: to have all my girl gang out on Sundays and
• 36:36
Speaker 13: we could just run miles and have fun. And that's
• 36:39
Speaker 13: kind of where it started. But we picked up a
• 36:43
Speaker 13: bunch of people along the way from our Charleston Park
• 36:47
Speaker 13: run family, and we have now we have a bunch
• 36:51
Speaker 13: of different uh there's all ages, all paces, guys, girls,
• 36:59
Speaker 13: everybody just comes out and that's how we get our
• 37:02
  Speaker 13: miles in.
• 37:03
Speaker 5: So that's really how it started.
• 37:05
Speaker 13: But we've grown to include so many people and we
• 37:08
Speaker 13: have kind of a following now, so even when folks
• 37:12
Speaker 13: come to visit in Charleston, they look us up and
• 37:16
Speaker 13: come and join us for our Sunday runs. And that's
• 37:18
Speaker 13: how we meet a bunch of our friends.
• 37:21
Speaker 4: Talking about the Charleston distance run. Dave Island showing five
• 37:23
Speaker 4: eighty Live is Brown, Chew and park Bare your hometown
• 37:25
Speaker 4: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. After a long, long
• 37:28
Speaker 4: road trip, the Birds are finally back at home to
• 37:30
Speaker 4: begin a weekend series against Gastonia. Tonight at the ballpark,

• 37:45
Speaker 4: I have no idea what any of that means, to
• 37:47
Speaker 4: be honest with you, take us the schedule, promotions, merchant
• 37:49
Speaker 4: more visit Dirtybirds Baseball dot com. I'm sorry, I that's
• 37:53
Speaker 4: I mean. I'm showing my ignorance and my non child
• 37:58
Speaker 4: my childless life here. I guess I agree with all
• 38:03
Speaker 4: that I'm looking at. Can you help us out on this?
• 38:11
Speaker 4: Bluey Okay, Blue Blue. He's aware he's got a child.
• 38:17
Speaker 16: So the thing about Blue and Bingo is, uh, you
• 38:20
Speaker 16: guys are huge fans, right, you got to be big fans.
• 38:22
Speaker 4: Oh well, yeah, yeah, I live for it. Yeah.
• 38:24
Speaker 16: And and my daughter is is she's seven, and so
• 38:28
  Speaker 16: it's one of the oh I'm sorry, everybody's okay, everybody's
• 38:32
Speaker 16: on headphones, go ahead. My daughter's seven. She's huge into
• 38:35
Speaker 16: blue am Bingo. That's like one of her biggest things.
• 38:38
Speaker 16: And when she saw that this was coming to the
• 38:41
Speaker 16: to uh, that this was coming to town, she was
• 38:42
Speaker 16: really big into it. But Blue a Bingo is the
• 38:44
Speaker 16: like the biggest thing in her life. We play keep
• 38:46
Speaker 16: You Uppy all the time. We got to do things
• 38:48
Speaker 16: like that. Oh yeah, keep you upy, she has. That's
• 38:51
Speaker 16: the balloon game, you know. And it's really simple. You
• 38:54
Speaker 16: just can't let the balloon hit the floor, and you
• 38:56
Speaker 16: can use any strategy at all to keep it from
• 38:58
Speaker 16: hitting the floor. And we have balloons. One quick thing,
• 39:01
Speaker 16: and I'll let you. We have balloons because we play
• 39:02
Speaker 16: keep you up you so much. And we have this
• 39:04
Speaker 16: weird stairway in our house that sort of descends down
• 39:07
Speaker 16: into the basement, so you can kind of throw things
• 39:09
Speaker 16: down into there from above, and so the balloons all
• 39:13
Speaker 16: get down into that little stairwell. And then when I
• 39:16
Speaker 16: go downstairs to do laundry and stuff like that, I
• 39:18
Speaker 16: open the door and the like the pressure sucks them
• 39:20
Speaker 16: into that room. When you go into my basement now
• 39:22
Speaker 16: and open the door, there's balloons everywhere, just from years
• 39:25
Speaker 16: and years and years of these balloons being powered up
• 39:27
Speaker 16: in my basement. So you could go down there and
• 39:28
Speaker 16: there's a little bit of airflow. So you go down there,
• 39:30
Speaker 16: it's like a ball pit. These little balloons are just
• 39:32
Speaker 16: kind of popping around everywhere, and it's all from previous
• 39:34
Speaker 16: games of keep up. It's a good time.
• 39:36
Speaker 4: So you see, we've all learned something here today. Girls,
• 39:38
Speaker 4: we've all learned something there. So there you go. We
• 39:40
Speaker 4: didn't know about the bloe cells. Yeah, I appreciate I
• 39:43
Speaker 4: appreciate it very much. All right, Okay, we're good now.
• 39:48
Speaker 4: All right, so let's talk about it. Let's get back
• 39:50
Speaker 4: to Charleston. Just run again. Oh, by the way, we
• 39:51
Speaker 4: had a texture, says anyone know the hottest temperature on
• 39:54
  Speaker 4: past distance runs.
• 39:56
Speaker 13: We would definitely welcome a shower every year, but we
• 39:58
  Speaker 13: never get.
• 39:59
Speaker 4: That sh anybody have any idea, I have no idea.
• 40:03
Speaker 8: Last year was really hot, you know, and we we
• 40:07
Speaker 8: do have menal we have the best Charleston Fire Department
• 40:11
Speaker 8: and ambulance. They really do take care of our people
• 40:14
Speaker 8: out there. Last year we had a few incidents and
• 40:19
Speaker 8: I'm so thankful that everybody is healthy. Actually, I know
• 40:23
Speaker 8: some of them are coming back, so I'm super excited
• 40:27
Speaker 8: that they weren't afraid to come back and try to run.
• 40:31
Speaker 8: So yeah, it does get Yeah, we have a lot
• 40:34
Speaker 8: of volunteers with the water stations to keep everybody cool.
• 40:37
Speaker 8: Last year we actually had some people in the community
• 40:41
Speaker 8: bring wet wash cloths and they were out on the course.
• 40:45
Speaker 8: We have other people that kind of put up other
• 40:47
Speaker 8: core water stops that are unofficial just to kind of
• 40:51
Speaker 8: keep us hydrated. So that's very important. A lot of
• 40:55
Speaker 8: our runners take their own hydration to keep hydrated.
• 41:00
Speaker 4: That's key, all right, So give us the website or
• 41:02
Speaker 4: the Facebook or how we're gonna people learn more.
• 41:05
Speaker 8: Charlestondistance run dot Com is our website and it will
• 41:09
Speaker 8: take you to run sign up and it will have
• 41:11
Speaker 8: all the information where packet pickup is, which is at
• 41:14
Speaker 8: hadd Park this year on Friday, August twenty ninth, from
• 41:19
Speaker 8: three to eight. We'll also have a pasta dinner that's
• 41:21
Speaker 8: being catered by catering Ladies at a Hurricane And we
• 41:25
Speaker 8: have a kids run at six point thirty on Friday,
• 41:28
Speaker 8: so we have two different age groups for that. That's
• 41:32
Speaker 8: going to be run on from Capitol Street to Court
• 41:34
Speaker 8: Street and we'll have some awards at six o'clock. And
• 41:40
  Speaker 8: your girl.
• 41:41
Speaker 13: Gang is my girl gang runs on Sundays and we
• 41:46
Speaker 13: do our training runs for the CDR. We train all
• 41:49
Speaker 13: year round, but in the summer we amp it up
• 41:52
Speaker 13: for the CDR training. And so every Sunday we hold
• 41:56
Speaker 13: a training run and I post on our Girl Gmean
• 42:00
Speaker 13: Facebook page and on the Charleston Distance Run Strava page
• 42:06
Speaker 13: if you have that app, it's a running app, and
• 42:09
Speaker 13: so the events are always posted the Friday before Sunday,
• 42:13
Speaker 13: and so every other week. This week is a flat run,
• 42:17
Speaker 13: next week will be a rollie run. And I say rollies,
• 42:21
Speaker 13: but it's basically straight up incline. So you know, we're
• 42:26
Speaker 13: just trying to get you in there.
• 42:27
Speaker 4: That sounds like fun. I'll tell you what. I'll have
• 42:31
Speaker 4: you yeahs on before the event. And then because I
• 42:33
Speaker 4: know there's a big need for volunteers and thin can
• 42:35
Speaker 4: people also volunteer at the website or get information about volunteers.
• 42:38
Speaker 8: And they can email us through the website and we
• 42:42
Speaker 8: can definitely always take volunteers. And we do have a
• 42:45
Speaker 8: price increase coming up on June thirtieth, so if you
• 42:48
Speaker 8: want to take advantage of the.
• 42:49
Speaker 4: Can get in now, christ right, sign up. All right, ladies,
• 42:53
Speaker 4: and again we'll have you on before the run. I
• 42:55
Speaker 4: appreciate you everybody from being here. Thanks, and we all
• 42:57
Speaker 4: learned about Bluielly appreciate you, Kim appreciate you.
• 43:02
Speaker 16: I can bring Ashley on and she would tell you
• 43:04
Speaker 16: everything you needed to know.

• 45:31
Speaker 4: Nine fifty three. Hamy Breedlove is here and uh she's
• 45:36
Speaker 4: been promising. This is a professional voiceover artist extraordinaire. Native
• 45:39
Speaker 4: of the Charleston area but living in Florida. Back here
• 45:42
Speaker 4: for the summer quickly, though people don't know your story
• 45:45
  Speaker 4: a radio person voiceover artist, that's t J Meadows, just
• 45:48
Speaker 4: don't pay attention to him. Uh so, uh, let's let's
• 45:51
Speaker 4: quickly talk about how you got into this whole voiceover thing.
• 45:54
Speaker 4: I guess I should turn your microphone on. That would
• 45:56
  Speaker 4: help go ahead.
• 45:57
Speaker 5: The thing on. Here we go, let's see.
• 46:00
  Speaker 3: So.
• 46:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, radio basically just transitions from radio to voiceover. I
• 46:04
Speaker 5: was doing voiceover part time while in radio, and thankfully
• 46:07
Speaker 5: all of my bosses were like, sure, if you want
• 46:08
Speaker 5: to use the production room and do what you need
• 46:12
Speaker 5: to do, as long as everything else is done, I'm
• 46:15
Speaker 5: good with that. So once I built my client base up,
• 46:19
Speaker 5: I just built my little home well husband built the
• 46:22
Speaker 5: home studio. I did not. I am not techie whatsoever,
• 46:25
Speaker 5: and just started rolling and went to some voiceover conventions.
• 46:31
Speaker 5: I took some classes from folks who are definitely way
• 46:37
Speaker 5: better than me, and I continue to learn and continue
• 46:41
Speaker 5: to evolve, and I also teach voiceover.
• 46:44
Speaker 4: Now, and that's what you said on your social media.
• 46:47
Speaker 4: You said you're going to give me a voiceover lesson?
• 46:48
Speaker 4: Are you gonna make TJ do this too? All right?
• 46:52
Speaker 4: What are we doing here?
• 46:53
  Speaker 3: All right?
• 46:53
Speaker 5: So I gave you some scripts.
• 46:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, the headphones turned up a little loud of there apparently.
• 46:58
Speaker 4: So all right, we got scripts. Here, go pick one.
• 47:01
Speaker 4: I'll pick this one. You want TJ to take one? Sure,
• 47:04
Speaker 4: I mean well, it says, okay, I'll do one to
• 47:06
Speaker 4: let TJ do one. How's that?
• 47:07
Speaker 5: Okay? Now I want you to analyze this and think
• 47:11
Speaker 5: you know well, I mean you do commercials.
• 47:13
  Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'm already a professor, that's true. No, I'm
• 47:17
Speaker 4: not all right. So so you want me to read
• 47:20
Speaker 4: it as I would read it? Yes, okay. The comeback trail.
• 47:25
Speaker 4: There's no map, no mile marker, no welcome signe. Yes,
• 47:29
Speaker 4: there is at the corner of life and heartache. One
• 47:32
Speaker 4: day you may find yourself here and you'll need some
• 47:35
Speaker 4: help to bring you back, to carry you home. At
• 47:38
Speaker 4: our insurance, we believe that at every setback, there's a
• 47:40
Speaker 4: chance to come back and rise. Our insurance Auto Home Life.
• 47:46
Speaker 5: Not bad little announcery, So we're gonna don't.
• 47:50
  Speaker 4: I can't imagine what you're talking about.
• 47:56
Speaker 5: So we pull that announcer out and we just make
• 47:58
Speaker 5: you nice and kind of flat gravitas little drama with
• 48:02
Speaker 5: the comeback trail. There is no map, no mile marker
• 48:07
Speaker 5: to where you're just kind of chatting.
• 48:08
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, his turn nowt Okay, I didn't come
• 48:11
Speaker 4: in here for this. Yeah. Well, if you can't humiliate
• 48:14
Speaker 4: your friends and coworkers, who can you have?
• 48:16
Speaker 6: I have a voice for comic books, for current all right, uh,
• 48:19
  Speaker 6: animation too?
• 48:20
  Speaker 4: Okay?
• 48:21
Speaker 6: Well yeah, United States Postal Service, tangled lights, mall parking,
• 48:27
Speaker 6: and some assembly. Required a few reasons to get a
• 48:30
Speaker 6: head start on the holidays.
• 48:32
Speaker 4: Fly like an eagle. United States Postal Service.
• 48:35
Speaker 5: All Right, you were reading that, Yeah, I do that, Okay,
• 48:38
Speaker 5: so I know. Okay, So what you have to do
• 48:42
Speaker 5: is take those first three things and we're going to
• 48:44
Speaker 5: put it into real life, make it believable. So tangled lights,
• 48:47
Speaker 5: like a tangled lights, drive to the mall, mall parking,
• 48:52
Speaker 5: and then you get home. You have your Ikia thing
• 48:55
Speaker 5: that you're putting together, and it's like, oh, I'm gonna
• 48:56
Speaker 5: be up to three am doing this, and Emily required
• 49:02
  Speaker 5: you're good.
• 49:03
  Speaker 2: I'm not.
• 49:04
Speaker 4: I'll stick. I'll stick to politics. But to be to
• 49:07
Speaker 4: be fair, she's a trained professional and we're pretty much
• 49:09
Speaker 4: trained monkeys. So so they just put us behind a
• 49:12
Speaker 4: micros So you're telling me I'm not donal la Fontan.
• 49:14
Speaker 4: Is that what you're telling? Well, I mean you're barely
• 49:17
Speaker 4: not not. But that's okay, it's all good. It's all good.
• 49:20
Speaker 4: I know where I stand. At a text here says
• 49:22
Speaker 4: do I remember Amy telling his story on air about
• 49:24
  Speaker 4: driving to Alaska?
• 49:26
Speaker 5: Yes, a husband and I drove to Alaska right after
• 49:30
Speaker 5: we got married, and it was a blast. Got to
• 49:33
Speaker 5: see a lot of states.
• 49:35
Speaker 4: And how do you drive to Alaska? I mean, what's
• 49:38
Speaker 4: what's the time here?
• 49:40
  Speaker 5: Let's see. It took us a week. Gosh, I can't
• 49:43
  Speaker 5: remember this.
• 49:43
  Speaker 4: For a week.
• 49:45
Speaker 5: We drove from Charleston to Bellingham, Washington, boarded a ferry,
• 49:51
Speaker 5: and then the fairy took us to whitty Er, Alaska,
• 49:55
Speaker 5: and then we drove into Anchorage.
• 49:57
Speaker 4: You missed with Alaska, you know, I missed the food.
• 50:00
Speaker 5: I missed, my friends.
• 50:01
Speaker 4: What is Alaskan food, by the way, very healthy? Okay,
• 50:06
  Speaker 4: it's uh seafood?
• 50:09
Speaker 5: There is there, the fresh salmon, the fresh halibit is.
• 50:14
Speaker 5: You know, you just walk down to ship Creek, which
• 50:16
Speaker 5: is right there in the middle of town and grab
• 50:19
Speaker 5: your fish and you can cook it. Or you just
• 50:21
Speaker 5: caught that day, so you can just go to Humpies
• 50:22
  Speaker 5: and yeah.
• 50:25
Speaker 4: But I mean, I'm still trying to wrap my head
• 50:27
Speaker 4: around the fact that you drove for a week. I
• 50:30
Speaker 4: mean I complained about driving from Chane's Valley to Charleston.
• 50:34
Speaker 5: You know, well we were young, we were young men
• 50:39
Speaker 5: and just married, right, Yeah, exactly. We were in love,
• 50:44
Speaker 5: so you know, I didn't think about anything else. But
• 50:48
Speaker 5: we were on a schedule too. I do remember that
• 50:50
Speaker 5: because I kind of wanted to take my time at
• 50:52
Speaker 5: certain parts. He's like, Nope, we got to do this
• 50:54
Speaker 5: and do this and do this because we had to
• 50:55
Speaker 5: get to the ferry. And I did get to see
• 50:59
Speaker 5: soon on the ferry. Had no idea what I was
• 51:02
Speaker 5: in for, but it was a storm, a winter storm
• 51:06
Speaker 5: on I don't know what the the lake or the
• 51:11
Speaker 5: river with ocean I was on.
• 51:14
Speaker 4: I was on something the Alaska River.
• 51:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, it is awesome to walk into Target in the
• 51:20
Speaker 6: valley and hear Amy breedlove so proud of you. You
• 51:23
Speaker 6: deserve all the good things that have come.
• 51:26
Speaker 4: Give us the example of where I always like to
• 51:28
Speaker 4: do this where people, I mean here in the Canal Valley.
• 51:31
Speaker 4: Some of your work.
• 51:33
Speaker 5: Here in the Canal Valley. They can hear me on
• 51:36
