- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia, Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And we're back with my sisters for another episode of
- 0:15Speaker 1: Dirty Rush. Gabrielle, are any of your sorority sisters abroad
- 0:20Speaker 1: with you?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, my best friend Ella's abroad with me.
- 0:24Speaker 3: She's my roommate in my apartment, so that's really nice.
- 0:28Speaker 3: And then I also have my freshman year roommate who's
- 0:30Speaker 3: abroad and with her is also another friend. So I
- 0:34Speaker 3: have the Laura Dylon, but because I did my program
- 0:37Speaker 3: through Michigan, I couldn't live with them. They didn't program
- 0:40Speaker 3: like outside of Michigan, otherwise we would have all lived together.
- 0:43Speaker 3: And then I have all my first semester friends here,
- 0:46Speaker 3: so there's three of them that I'm really close with,
- 0:49Speaker 3: but we all ended up in different sororities.
- 0:51Speaker 2: It's so nice.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I know, you guys look like you're having the best
- 0:54Speaker 1: time ever.
- 0:56Speaker 3: It's the best time. I'm getting emotional. I'm leaving soon.
- 0:59Speaker 4: I know it went so fast.
- 1:02Speaker 3: It always goes by fast. Time flies, like that's what
- 1:05Speaker 3: you used to enjoy. Every minute it went by, so
- 1:08Speaker 3: faz I can't leave. My sophomore year's ending.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm gonna be a senior, Melamia, that's second night.
- 1:14Speaker 4: That's crazy that you went my so fast. That's like
- 1:17Speaker 4: so so crazy.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Time flies, And next semester, I'm going abroad Guy's Barcelona's.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Don't worry to be so careful. I'm gonna learn my
- 1:25Speaker 4: way around. I'm gonna do great.
- 1:28Speaker 1: How has sorority life changed since being a freshman and
- 1:33Speaker 1: what has been your favorite year of you guys being
- 1:36Speaker 1: in a sorority so far?
- 1:38Speaker 5: I would say what has changed from this year last
- 1:42Speaker 5: year is I definitely found my group of people that like, like,
- 1:45Speaker 5: obviously there's like.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Two hundred and fifty girls in the sorority.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Obviously you might have some drama with some girls or whatever,
- 1:53Speaker 5: but or you just might not even know them because
- 1:55Speaker 5: it's like a lot of girls. So you definitely, I've
- 1:59Speaker 5: just definitely found my friend group that like I hang
- 2:02Speaker 5: out with and I know like a lot of girls,
- 2:04Speaker 5: but like it's still just a lot of girls in
- 2:06Speaker 5: a sorority. And I Gabrielle probably has like four hundred
- 2:09Speaker 5: girls in her sorority.
- 2:10Speaker 4: How many girls good do you have?
- 2:12Speaker 2: How many girls are on your PC?
- 2:13Speaker 4: I know everyone in my PC, and.
- 2:15Speaker 2: That's the most important part.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I mean, you're you're technically supposed to know every single
- 2:20Speaker 1: girl's name in your sorority. That was like a really
- 2:23Speaker 1: big thing when I rushed. If you like didn't know
- 2:27Speaker 1: somebody's name, it was a really big thing, and you
- 2:30Speaker 1: would get in trouble and it was very serious.
- 2:34Speaker 5: No, that's actually insane because I'm literally so bad with names.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Either way, I could meet you ten times, know your face,
- 2:39Speaker 5: say how do you every time?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Still do not know your name? I'm so bad with names.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I mean it's hard.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think it's a little unrealistic to know every single
- 2:47Speaker 1: person in your sorority. But I mean I didn't, and
- 2:51Speaker 1: I would just, you know, pretend like you know, just
- 2:54Speaker 1: I would just pretend like I knew everybody so that
- 2:56Speaker 1: I would never get in trouble. But yeah, I mean
- 3:00Speaker 1: there were some girls who really did know every single
- 3:02Speaker 1: person's name, but that definitely was a big thing.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I know every person's name in my PC. Yeah, I
- 3:10Speaker 3: have like sixty girls on my PC. You know everyone's
- 3:14Speaker 3: name your PC, Well, it's sixty girls.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And also my experience is different from yours. I'm sixty
- 3:20Speaker 2: two you're sixty two.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I lived in my sorority house, so like I lived
- 3:25Speaker 3: with these girls for an entire year.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Oh well, then obviously you know them.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 3: No, for me, it was easier, like that's why my
- 3:33Speaker 3: PC I know well, but like obviously other grades not
- 3:36Speaker 3: as well.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Yeah, this year has been my favorite year, my surety,
- 3:39Speaker 5: because like I said, I found my group of girls,
- 3:43Speaker 5: and I just feel like I'm I'm.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Good, I'm in it, I know what I'm doing, like
- 3:48Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 3: For me, my favorite year was definitely sophomore year living
- 3:52Speaker 3: in the house.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Like Malania said, like, really you enjoyed living in this
- 3:57Speaker 2: I loved it. I did well. She racked up those
- 4:01Speaker 2: points to get a single, so oh yeah I did.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Yeah well, Like Gia said, there was this housing system
- 4:08Speaker 3: for points, because there was a dormer, which is basically
- 4:12Speaker 3: like ten bunk beds in one room and you sleep
- 4:16Speaker 3: in there and have your stuff in either a triple
- 4:18Speaker 3: or a quad with either obviously two or three roommates,
- 4:23Speaker 3: and then there's doubles and singles.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So I knew immediately that I.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Wanted a single, just because you know, living with sixty
- 4:29Speaker 3: yearls probably can be a lot.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So I just wanted my alone time when I was
- 4:33Speaker 2: in my room.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So first semester, I would say, is just like adjusting
- 4:37Speaker 3: to the sorority, finding your friends. That's why sophomore year
- 4:40Speaker 3: I loved because living in the house, like all my
- 4:43Speaker 3: best friends were on my floor and we got so close,
- 4:46Speaker 3: and like, I guess, like now it's different because junior year,
- 4:51Speaker 3: I lived with my first semester friends, and I guess
- 4:54Speaker 3: just like being able to pop in.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And out of their rooms whenever you want is like
- 4:57Speaker 2: so fun.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I would say my favorite was my freshman year because
- 5:02Speaker 1: it was just exciting running home, meeting people, going to mixers,
- 5:07Speaker 1: the whole first experience of everything. And then we got
- 5:10Speaker 1: sent home for COVID, So I would say I enjoyed
- 5:14Speaker 1: my freshman year the most.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Well, Gabriel, did you guys have rules, Like like what
- 5:19Speaker 5: if you guys like woke each other up?
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:22Speaker 3: I mean there was like obviously quiet hours, we got
- 5:25Speaker 3: loud at some times for the dorm or at least
- 5:27Speaker 3: like girls to sleep in there, they like, you can't
- 5:30Speaker 3: talk in there, you can't put the lights on. But
- 5:33Speaker 3: I was in my single so like I could kind
- 5:35Speaker 3: of talk whenever I wanted. Rules like obviously you're not
- 5:38Speaker 3: supposed to drink in the house or anything. No boys upstairs,
- 5:43Speaker 3: but like.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Stuff happens, so like did you guys like like did
- 5:49Speaker 5: you guys like ever like get into like really bad
- 5:51Speaker 5: fights in the group?
- 5:52Speaker 4: Chad to who did this? Oh my god?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Honestly, no, we were lucky because we had a cleaningly
- 6:00Speaker 3: come every day except for Saturdays. For the bathrooms though, yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 3: like sorority houses typically do have a cleaning service, like
- 6:10Speaker 3: also after Saturdays when we had game days, like, the
- 6:14Speaker 3: bathroom was discusting. That was the only day that like,
- 6:16Speaker 3: I did not want to be in that bathroom.
- 6:17Speaker 2: It was disgusting.
- 6:19Speaker 4: That's nice.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Do you guys feel like you found your people through
- 6:23Speaker 1: rushing a sorority?
- 6:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm really close to my friends. I'm living with
- 6:28Speaker 3: all my sorority friends senior year in the house.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Super fun.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Malania, have you done anything crazy in the sorority house?
- 6:36Speaker 1: I know you don't have a house, but let's say
- 6:40Speaker 1: a party or a formal and what is your craziest
- 6:43Speaker 1: sorority story.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Oh, I'll tell you my craziest storty story. I have
- 6:47Speaker 4: a good one.
- 6:48Speaker 5: So I was talking to this guy last semester of
- 6:52Speaker 5: my freshman year of college, and we went to each
- 6:55Speaker 5: other's formals.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I went to his, he went to mine. And when
- 6:58Speaker 4: it's time for my.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Formal, and like the awards were going around to like
- 7:02Speaker 5: most sister likely to doade, the most likely sistered it up.
- 7:07Speaker 5: It was like the award was most likely to ghost
- 7:11Speaker 5: your day after formal, and it was awarded to.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Me, and he looked at me.
- 7:18Speaker 5: It was like, and then I just walked up, got
- 7:22Speaker 5: my awards, smiled with it, and then walked back to him.
- 7:26Speaker 4: And I was like, that's not gonna happen.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That's so funny. That is funny that what happened to you.
- 7:35Speaker 6: That's so embarrassing.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Everybody was like deep, I'm not saying his name, but
- 7:39Speaker 5: everyone was like, poor bleep, poor bleep.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I was like, don't feel bad for him, who cares?
- 7:44Speaker 6: Oh my god, that's so funny.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Have you guys held or ever wanted to hold a
- 8:03Speaker 1: position on exac No?
- 8:07Speaker 4: Maybe one.
- 8:08Speaker 2: No, not exact, that's too intense for me.
- 8:11Speaker 3: But like I was a part of like the Philanthropy Committee,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and I also was on different things for like the
- 8:18Speaker 3: Pantalantic community. I was a junior delegate. There's like two
- 8:23Speaker 3: from each PC. And then I was also something called
- 8:27Speaker 3: ppe s VEE.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's like a sexual assault educator.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Well, you'd actually be really good at any spot.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, but she has, like she deals with so much
- 8:38Speaker 1: with school. It really is a lot to take on
- 8:41Speaker 1: and a big responsibility. But that's sweet that you were
- 8:44Speaker 1: involved in those committees.
- 8:46Speaker 2: No, yeah, I was still like involved.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I guess like I was, I guess a part of
- 8:50Speaker 3: two things outside of my sorty but like that are
- 8:53Speaker 3: a part of Greek life. And then in my sorority,
- 8:56Speaker 3: it was just part of the philanthropy committee. Is there
- 8:59Speaker 3: a specific event our tradition? Your sorority does that? Everyone
- 9:02Speaker 3: looks forward to winter Fest?
- 9:05Speaker 4: What is Winterfest?
- 9:07Speaker 2: It's a philanthropy event.
- 9:09Speaker 3: But besides that, like every sorority plays hockey against each other,
- 9:14Speaker 3: but everybody wears these sweat sets, so all six.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Is so cute. Yeah, so there's sixteen sororities.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I don't know how many frats there are, but all
- 9:24Speaker 3: the sororities wear a sweat set and it's probably the
- 9:27Speaker 3: only event where every single frat and every single sorority
- 9:30Speaker 3: is at.
- 9:31Speaker 2: That's super fun. What about you, Malania?
- 9:33Speaker 5: My favorite event is probably either semi or formal. The
- 9:38Speaker 5: other day I went to an event on campus. It
- 9:40Speaker 5: was like our mandatory sister heard event and it was
- 9:46Speaker 5: on the river walk.
- 9:47Speaker 4: There was a bowl.
- 9:49Speaker 5: I rode the bowl in my boot my foot's broken,
- 9:52Speaker 5: and I got a snow cone.
- 9:53Speaker 4: There was Colin candy.
- 9:55Speaker 5: There was a dunk machine and they're playing the sack
- 9:58Speaker 5: Potatoes where you jump it.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Actually here, that's fun. We don't have formals. Why only
- 10:04Speaker 3: the frats have formals? We had one, like set we don't.
- 10:07Speaker 3: We had one formal. It was like on a boat
- 10:10Speaker 3: that sucks. You should have a formal. They're pretty fun.
- 10:13Speaker 2: We had one.
- 10:13Speaker 1: But okay, is there anything you would do differently if
- 10:17Speaker 1: you were to start over?
- 10:20Speaker 4: No, never regret anything good.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Do you think being in a sorority will have an
- 10:24Speaker 1: impact on what you do after college? Have you made
- 10:28Speaker 1: any connections through it that feel meaningful beyond school?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Sororities are a good network to have, like, at least
- 10:37Speaker 3: for my sorority.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Everybody is so willing to help, Like if you want to.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Meet them for a coffee chat to talk about what
- 10:43Speaker 3: they're pursuing, or like a past internship they had. I know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: I did that with a current senior and my sorority.
- 10:49Speaker 3: She did this like externship abroad, and she met with me,
- 10:53Speaker 3: told me all about it. I didn't end up finding
- 10:57Speaker 3: what I'm doing postgrad through my sorority. I found that
- 11:00Speaker 3: through like a finance organization. But I would say post grad,
- 11:06Speaker 3: if you ever need help with anything, they're a good
- 11:08Speaker 3: network to have because they'll be all over the place
- 11:10Speaker 3: in all different industries as well.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Yes.
- 11:14Speaker 4: No, yeah, my stories are great help too.
- 11:16Speaker 5: We have like obviously group me like every other sutthority,
- 11:19Speaker 5: and everyone's always texting in it.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Guy, should I take this teacher? Guys?
- 11:22Speaker 5: Should I take that teacher? What class should I take
- 11:24Speaker 5: for this? I texted, yes, should I work? And I
- 11:26Speaker 5: get my dress tailored?
- 11:28Speaker 4: I tell them.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Where to get there, told them where to get a
- 11:31Speaker 5: good Russian manicure, you like put recommendations in there.
- 11:35Speaker 4: We just help each other wait out whatever.
- 11:37Speaker 5: There's like one group chat that's called dance party, and
- 11:39Speaker 5: that like you send like a bunch of stuff, you
- 11:41Speaker 5: ask a bunch of questions people ask for them to
- 11:44Speaker 5: tutor each other in different things. And the other group
- 11:47Speaker 5: chat is the exact announcements that like it's like important stuff.
- 11:51Speaker 2: That's good.
- 11:52Speaker 1: So will you use any of this beyond college? Are
- 11:56Speaker 1: they gonna recommend you to get a Russian man the
- 11:58Speaker 1: care of I am?
- 12:00Speaker 5: I am going to do this beyond college. I'm going
- 12:02Speaker 5: to join your Dirty Rush podcast.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Okay, that's not what that met, Malania.
- 12:08Speaker 5: What do you think I'm going to do with the
- 12:10Speaker 5: sorority beyond college? I want to I want to do
- 12:12Speaker 5: what she was doing after college? What is what do
- 12:15Speaker 5: you think I'm gonna do with?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Do you know what networking is?
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yes?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Network?
- 12:20Speaker 4: I know with everybody, I make friends. I make friends
- 12:25Speaker 4: and then I go on the boats on the weekends.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That's networking, all right, So Mlania social networking.
- 12:32Speaker 4: I social network and I network.
- 12:35Speaker 5: I network they I do post for things on network
- 12:41Speaker 5: networker way better than you.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so Malania is probably gonna follow in my footsteps
- 12:47Speaker 1: after college. I don't think she's getting much networking skills
- 12:52Speaker 1: through her sorority at the moment.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Just asked me what network? If I knew what networking was,
- 12:57Speaker 4: that was insulting.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Because you only used it in a context of like social.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Recommending to get Russian manicures.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you were, That's what you were saying like, for me,
- 13:09Speaker 3: I have coffee chats with so many different people to
- 13:12Speaker 3: talk about like investment, banking, accounting.
- 13:16Speaker 4: I'm not having coffee chats about economics.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I was having coffee chats about Morgan Stanley, and you're
- 13:22Speaker 1: having coffee chats about Russian manicures.
- 13:25Speaker 4: This is the only Stanley I know.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Oh my god, oh god.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Okay, what do you guys think Dad would think of
- 13:33Speaker 1: our college experiences if he saw everything?
- 13:37Speaker 5: He does see a lot FaceTime him, like every single day,
- 13:40Speaker 5: tony times day.
- 13:41Speaker 4: And he goes, oh god, would you Oh what are
- 13:44Speaker 4: we gonna do? What are we gonna do? My? Oh
- 13:46Speaker 4: my god, Mona, your life is so hard. Looking you
- 13:48Speaker 4: in the sun on the beach. Yeah, that's pretty much him.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think I think you share it too much, Lania, Yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I think you share too much.
- 13:57Speaker 4: How is that sharing too much?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Oh?
- 13:59Speaker 5: Share too much to my parents. I do not share
- 14:03Speaker 5: too much. For there's my parents is the reason why
- 14:05Speaker 5: I'm here. I'm allowed to tell my parents everything. Everyone
- 14:11Speaker 5: agrees with that.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Yeah, what about you? I think he would be proud
- 14:17Speaker 2: of me and very happy.
- 14:19Speaker 3: I work hard and play hard, living our best life.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I'm productive during the week.
- 14:24Speaker 3: I get my work done, and then on the weekends, like, wow,
- 14:28Speaker 3: it's a good back me too.
- 14:30Speaker 4: That's our schedule. That's our schedule.
- 14:33Speaker 2: What day of the week do you out?
- 14:35Speaker 5: Thursday, Friday, Saturday? Sometimes they beat Tuesdays. I'm kidding. I
- 14:39Speaker 5: don't go out that much at all.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I do like Thursday, Friday, Saturday. But if it's sort
- 14:43Speaker 3: of the fall, Thursday and Saturdays because of game day, No,
- 14:47Speaker 3: sometimes we'll go out on Tuesdays.
- 14:49Speaker 1: But like that's like then, as long as you guys
- 14:51Speaker 1: do well in school, you enjoy going out. That's all
- 14:55Speaker 1: I think our parents can ask for exactly, ya know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: they would be super pard of us. All right, guys, well,
- 15:02Speaker 1: this was such a fun episode. Thank you so much
