Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart, and today
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're joined by Jannis Randall, Seth, Viva Hansei, and Doug Duran.
- 0:21Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:24Speaker 2: meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 0:27Speaker 2: There's a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred dollars
- 0:30Speaker 2: to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Now here's
- 0:34Speaker 2: a stat for you, Doug. You have made more guest
- 0:37Speaker 2: appearances than anyone else in Meat Eater Trivia history. So
- 0:41Speaker 2: welcome back.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Congrats again.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's not like it's that many.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It's your third or fourth time. I think, Oh the show.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, all I know is I suck at it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So you played trivia way back in the old studio
- 0:56Speaker 2: Studio one point zero. I remember you and a Heffinger
- 0:58Speaker 2: were there.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Play was really hot in there.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, this room does the same thing.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Jim had all the answers, and for those that don't know,
- 1:06Speaker 4: Doug sings and composed the theme music.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Oh and the last time I was here, I added
- 1:13Speaker 5: a verse at the end that I am proud to
- 1:15Speaker 5: say this is getting played at that's right, yep, with
- 1:19Speaker 5: complete with Randall's guffaw when I said he likes to
- 1:22Speaker 5: kill those.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Two three year old bucks.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so it doesn't sound like me. Doug was in
- 1:28Speaker 2: studio one point oh. He's now played in two point oh.
- 1:30Speaker 2: We got a three point oh that's being worked on
- 1:32Speaker 2: and we'll have you back.
- 1:33Speaker 6: Well to talk about that.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yeah we are, Yeah, we did.
- 1:36Speaker 2: If we talk about it, then it has to happen.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Grand reveals are fun.
- 1:40Speaker 2: We're going to talk about it all the time.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Steve.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Steve did call me yesterday trying to drastically change the plans.
- 1:48Speaker 4: If you want to know how it's going after hours.
- 1:50Speaker 7: Yeah, uh.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Now Doug has some news to share about sharing the land, Doug,
- 1:56Speaker 2: what do you have for us?
- 1:57Speaker 5: So three years ago, four years ago, a couple of
- 2:01Speaker 5: friends of mine and I started experimenting with an idea.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Tried to prove this concept that was built off of
- 2:08Speaker 5: Elder Leopold's Riley Game Cooperative, in that Leopold and some
- 2:12Speaker 5: buddies did conservation work on a farmer's property in exchange
- 2:18Speaker 5: for access to that property and the conservation work they
- 2:23Speaker 5: did is much of it is still there. It's really
- 2:25Speaker 5: kind of a cool place to go and visit. It's
- 2:27Speaker 5: called the Riley Game Cooperative. About the same time I
- 2:31Speaker 5: met Steve Ranella, I was doing a bicycle trip out
- 2:34Speaker 5: in that area, saw the sign and it inspired me
- 2:39Speaker 5: to eventually come up with this idea, just really stealing
- 2:43Speaker 5: Leopold's idea to start a private land access initiative. That's
- 2:49Speaker 5: as old as time right that you trade work for access.
- 2:55Speaker 5: But what we try to do is expand it to
- 2:57Speaker 5: be mostly about conservation and making contribution to conservation somewhere.
- 3:02Speaker 5: And I'm proud to say that in our third year,
- 3:04Speaker 5: we just became beginning of our fourth year now a
- 3:07Speaker 5: nonprofit and we have fifty three properties in fifteen states,
- 3:12Speaker 5: and as you might imagine, we have a lot of
- 3:16Speaker 5: demand and not as much supply, so we're always looking
- 3:19Speaker 5: for landowners and that's the mission now. So we became
- 3:23Speaker 5: a nonprofit organization and as such, I would just like
- 3:29Speaker 5: you to keep that in mind.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, twists and armstad subtle.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I'd like to I'd like to think that I would win,
- 3:37Speaker 5: but also having not done very well at this so
- 3:39Speaker 5: I'm just putting it all in your heads that sharing
- 3:42Speaker 5: the land would be a worthy worthy.
- 3:46Speaker 2: What would you do with five hundred dollars if somebody
- 3:49Speaker 2: won today and gave that money to sharing the land?
- 3:52Speaker 5: Well, we have some we have some website development that
- 3:57Speaker 5: needs to be done. That's kind of place where we're
- 3:58Speaker 5: going to be putting some things. But the other part is,
- 4:01Speaker 5: as I said, we're trying to recruit more landowners, especially
- 4:05Speaker 5: in states where we have a lot of access seekers.
- 4:07Speaker 5: So traveling to those it helped us to pay like
- 4:11Speaker 5: entry fees to get into you know, like a landowner
- 4:17Speaker 5: gathering or a trade show or something that.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I've seen polling before that access to places to
- 4:24Speaker 2: hunt fish is a number one limiting factor for folks.
- 4:27Speaker 2: So a worthy cause that you're doing their doug. Thank
- 4:30Speaker 2: see if we can get some money over there today.
- 4:33Speaker 2: What's happening on the Dura farm these days? Give us
- 4:35Speaker 2: an update?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Wow?
- 4:37Speaker 5: Well, speaking of projects on the on the that some
- 4:42Speaker 5: of my access seekers are helping with us, helping us
- 4:45Speaker 5: with like Giannis, I'm doing a savannah restoration on our project,
- 4:49Speaker 5: which we're creating more grassland, which is great for turkeys.
- 4:52Speaker 5: As I was telling South early earlier, you know, the
- 4:55Speaker 5: white tailed deer don't really seem to need any help
- 4:58Speaker 5: from us at all. I'm interested in the grassland. I know,
- 5:02Speaker 5: y just stay when I say that.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But I like.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Grassland birds, I like grassland species. I like diversity and
- 5:12Speaker 5: uh and so we're you know, restoring native habitats and
- 5:14Speaker 5: that's and it's been really fun to have people there
- 5:17Speaker 5: helping us with it, who are learning about it and
- 5:20Speaker 5: making that kind of contribution to conservation.
- 5:23Speaker 1: No calving these days, those cattle anymore?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Would you normally be like in the center of calving
- 5:28Speaker 2: season right now now?
- 5:29Speaker 1: When we when I had cattle, I would wait until March.
- 5:32Speaker 2: April, so you don't miss it.
- 5:36Speaker 5: You know, I miss having cattle in the summer because
- 5:38Speaker 5: they look so nice out there, But I don't miss
- 5:40Speaker 5: them in the winter when you got to go out
- 5:42Speaker 5: there when it's freezing cold and deal with them. Given
- 5:44Speaker 5: your your head word today there's it's right for a joke,
- 5:48Speaker 5: all hat no cattle.
- 5:54Speaker 3: This week?
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 5:56Speaker 2: What are you doing to me? Eater HQ? How do
- 5:57Speaker 2: we get you in Bozeman?
- 5:59Speaker 5: Well, today I work with the honest and the crew
- 6:04Speaker 5: on a mediat to roasts that seth and Chris Gill
- 6:08Speaker 5: were involved with and it was great fun. Yesterday it
- 6:12Speaker 5: was on Steve's podcast, and I didn't really contribute much.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It was a.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Screwworm expert, and I just kind of felt like I
- 6:20Speaker 5: was the dumb guy in the corner saying things like, well,
- 6:24Speaker 5: it's interesting.
- 6:26Speaker 2: You should do that today for us as well.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I'm hoping I can get a couple of right, I'm
- 6:32Speaker 5: just hoping I can beat the Shelby index you get.
- 6:34Speaker 5: And then tomorrow we're doing another roast.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Wow, we're putting Doug through the car washing.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Great fun me HQ.
- 6:41Speaker 2: We have some housekeeping to get to before we play trivia.
- 6:44Speaker 2: The fourth annual Meat Eater Trivia Tournament returns next week. Steve, Brodie, Randall,
- 6:49Speaker 2: and Giannis will be competing for the title of Meat
- 6:51Speaker 2: Eater Trivia Champion. The tournament will be thirty questions across
- 6:55Speaker 2: three episodes. Doug give us a prediction for who will
- 6:58Speaker 2: win the whole thing. Steve, Brody, Randall, Janie.
- 7:03Speaker 5: I haven't torn between uh uh Brody and and Randall.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Okay, I like that.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'd say it's a toss up there.
- 7:12Speaker 2: No Steve though that Steve.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Is just gonna you know he's gonna try to bend
- 7:18Speaker 5: all he'll bend answers, Yes, he will, And I like
- 7:21Speaker 5: that you stand strong, he said Janus. On the other hand,
- 7:25Speaker 5: I think it's the dark.
- 7:25Speaker 6: Horse, Okay, very dark, and he's been hot lately.
- 7:30Speaker 1: He does today, all right?
- 7:33Speaker 2: The Shelby and extra today is a four, so our
- 7:35Speaker 2: winners should get eight correct answers. And with that we're
- 7:38Speaker 2: onto the game of trivia. Play the drop phill. Look,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 7:47Speaker 3: How's that you just tend to win everything?
- 7:57Speaker 5: Demons?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Question one. The topic is public lands and this will
- 8:01Speaker 2: be multiple choice. Angels Landing is the most famous hike
- 8:06Speaker 2: in this National Park? Is it? Yosemite, Great Smoky Mountains,
- 8:12Speaker 2: Grand Canyon, Zion and Doug. The question is on the
- 8:16Speaker 2: screen behind you there. You'd rather see it than hear it.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Angels Landing is the most famous hike in this national park, Yosemite,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Zion. Randal didn't even need
- 8:32Speaker 2: choices there, he had his answer locked in.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Then I'm second guessing myself.
- 8:36Speaker 7: Okay, it's a good question. I like the question.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I came up with that angels Landing is the most
- 8:44Speaker 2: famous hike in this National Park Yosemite, Great Smoky Mountains,
- 8:51Speaker 2: Grand Canyon, Zion.
- 8:55Speaker 7: I've got it narrowed down too.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Looks like Randal is the only one who knew the ronzie.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Do you like your I think I got it?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Okay?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Did you know this one without the choices?
- 9:05Speaker 8: I had to run through some similar area you'd gotten there?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Okay, Angels Landing the most famous hike in this park?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Your four choices, Smite, Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Zion.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Have you been there, Spencer?
- 9:24Speaker 2: Uh, we could talk about it afterwards. Honest, Do you
- 9:28Speaker 2: have your answer?
- 9:29Speaker 3: No?
- 9:30Speaker 7: Do I need to have one already?
- 9:31Speaker 2: I think we're waiting on you. Semity, Great Smoky Mountains,
- 9:35Speaker 2: Grand Canyon, Zion. It's gotten narrow down to.
- 9:43Speaker 9: Gosh, it's so hard you don't actually know it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Better pick one.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I feel like it's easy when you don't know.
- 9:55Speaker 1: There's two types of people.
- 9:58Speaker 2: You're honest, go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says
- 10:04Speaker 2: the Grand Canyon. Y're honest, Grand Canyon, Randall and Hansei
- 10:09Speaker 2: and Riva and Doug say Zion, they got it the
- 10:13Speaker 2: correct answer, Zion National Park.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Secret to my success?
- 10:17Speaker 5: Yeah, what is it if you don't know the answer
- 10:20Speaker 5: letter see or the third choice?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Oh well that was the fourth choice, so you didn't
- 10:25Speaker 2: even listen.
- 10:27Speaker 10: That's the Angels Landing.
- 10:32Speaker 2: There's a five point four mile round trip hike that
- 10:36Speaker 2: gains about fifteen hundred feet in elevation. It's so popular
- 10:39Speaker 2: that you're required to enter a lottery to draw a
- 10:42Speaker 2: permit to do the hike. It's one of the deadliest
- 10:45Speaker 2: trails in the National park system, with thirteen deaths on
- 10:48Speaker 2: the hike since the year two thousand and four. Most
- 10:51Speaker 2: occurred during the last half mile, where hikers hold on
- 10:54Speaker 2: to a metal chain as they follow a knife edge ridge.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I have been to Zigon National Park. I haven't done
- 11:00Speaker 2: this hike. I would say Zion is one of the
- 11:02Speaker 2: most overrated parks because to see most of it you
- 11:05Speaker 2: have to get on a shuttle. And that's where I
- 11:06Speaker 2: draw the line for seeing a national park. It's like
- 11:09Speaker 2: feels like an amusement, like it's.
- 11:12Speaker 6: One of the places that has been destroyed by the
- 11:16Speaker 6: Instagram age.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Yeah, there there are like flagship national parks. I would
- 11:20Speaker 2: say all four of them. In your choices, there were
- 11:23Speaker 2: part of the flagship parks and Zion is one of them.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You got to be willing to, like get on a
- 11:28Speaker 2: shuttle bus and just be shoulder to shoulder with people.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Not an experience that I wanted to do, so I
- 11:33Speaker 2: did not do this hike. What's the question?
- 11:38Speaker 7: I might have the word wrong.
- 11:45Speaker 11: It's mostly like not no like cables or anything like
- 11:49Speaker 11: that last half mile though, you can hold onto that chain,
- 11:53Speaker 11: and that's where thirteen people have falled and died.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Question two. The topic is fishing. This is our listener
- 11:59Speaker 2: question of the which was won by Murphy Shaw for
- 12:02Speaker 2: sending this great question. Murphy is going to get a
- 12:04Speaker 2: board game signed by the crew. If you want a
- 12:06Speaker 2: chance to win our listener question of the week, then
- 12:08Speaker 2: send your question to Trivia at the meadeater dot com.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. Bass pro says, this contraption which
- 12:16Speaker 2: helps your boat on which helps position your boat on
- 12:20Speaker 2: wendy days, looks like quote a huge ice cream cone
- 12:24Speaker 2: with the small end cutout. Randal the only player to
- 12:30Speaker 2: answer so far. Bass pro says, this contraption which helps
- 12:35Speaker 2: position your boat on wendy days, looks like quote a
- 12:39Speaker 2: huge ice cream cone with the small end cutout. It
- 12:44Speaker 2: could be a zero percenter.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Gosh, I know it.
- 12:48Speaker 9: I know I've used them, but I don't know if
- 12:51Speaker 9: I know the name of the contraption.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You can picture it, you've touched one. Maybe Seth now
- 12:56Speaker 2: has his answer, Seth, do you have this right?
- 12:58Speaker 3: I mean, I know what it is, but I know
- 13:00Speaker 3: what the technical.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Do you have one of these in your boat right now?
- 13:04Speaker 8: No?
- 13:05Speaker 2: Best pro says, this contraption, which helps position your boat
- 13:09Speaker 2: on windy days, looks like a huge ice cream cone
- 13:13Speaker 2: with the small end cut out.
- 13:15Speaker 6: It's a good question, good.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Question, but we may stump all six players.
- 13:24Speaker 6: I have two options that I'm.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Contraction, which helps position your boat on windy days, looks
- 13:31Speaker 2: like a huge ice cream cone with the small end
- 13:34Speaker 2: cut out. Seth, did you look at Yanni's answer? I
- 13:37Speaker 2: do you agree with him?
- 13:38Speaker 3: It's not what I have down. But he might be
- 13:40Speaker 3: right like.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Do you like what he has or do you like
- 13:44Speaker 2: yours better?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Only it's a bad answer what he has written down.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Okay, Seth the first.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I'm not just saying that.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Randall, do you like your answer?
- 13:59Speaker 6: Sort of?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Okay, Doug, do you have this one right?
- 14:03Speaker 1: I have an answer?
- 14:04Speaker 2: Okay, this might be one of those that's interesting.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Well, I'm trying to so ce wasn't an option this time.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Bass Pro says, this contraption, which helps position your boat
- 14:19Speaker 2: on windy days, looks like a huge ice cream cone
- 14:22Speaker 2: with the small end cut out. It's everybody ready. Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 2: be honest, he's changing his answer that Seth didn't like.
- 14:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just gonna choose one of the two that I.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says drift bag,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Jannis says wind anchor, Randall says drift anchor, Hansi says
- 14:47Speaker 2: wind anchor, Reva says airstream flag thing, and Doug says
- 14:53Speaker 2: cone drag. The correct answer is drift sock or drift anchor. Now,
- 15:00Speaker 2: Randall is the only one I think who had the
- 15:03Speaker 2: answers that I revealed. Giannis, what did you say wind anchor?
- 15:08Speaker 2: I don't think we're going to give you that, Seth,
- 15:09Speaker 2: what did you have? Drift drift bag? That I will
- 15:14Speaker 2: google drift bag and see what that comes up. Drag,
- 15:18Speaker 2: We're not going to give you.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Come on what Actually, I.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Think we'll give you drift bag because I'm seeing results
- 15:25Speaker 2: here that call them drift socks or trolling bags. So
- 15:28Speaker 2: I think we'll give you drift wind anchor. You know what,
- 15:33Speaker 2: I'll google that as well.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Wait a minute, what would you like, Doug, I had
- 15:38Speaker 1: half of it right, drag so cone, drag wind anchor.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I'm not getting anything at all besides things for tents.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It looks like so we'll give it to set a
- 15:52Speaker 2: good start wind anchor.
- 15:55Speaker 6: But since wind was in the question, that's what tipped
- 15:59Speaker 6: my hand.
- 15:59Speaker 2: A drift rif sock can be used with a trolling
- 16:02Speaker 2: motor or on its own. Its purpose is to slow
- 16:04Speaker 2: down your boat for moving too fast with the current
- 16:07Speaker 2: or wind. Drift socks are parachute shaped and attached to
- 16:11Speaker 2: your boat with a harness. They are especially popular among walleye,
- 16:14Speaker 2: bass and catfish angle they were.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Now, why in the world would you know that, randal
- 16:19Speaker 5: or did you just put that together in your brilliant mind.
- 16:22Speaker 6: No, I mean I know what it is, and that
- 16:25Speaker 6: for whatever reason, that's the name that came to me.
- 16:28Speaker 6: I knew it was a type of anchor, drift sock,
- 16:30Speaker 6: wind or drift anchor. And then because there's wind in
- 16:33Speaker 6: the question. Always skeptical of repeating a word from the question.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Why don't you think they're popular anymore? Because the spot lock,
- 16:40Speaker 2: so folks don't need it.
- 16:41Speaker 10: Yeah, new technology with trolling motors and stuff, no one uses.
- 16:44Speaker 10: I've never seen anyone use them before.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I've been using in my whole life. Really, I haven't
- 16:49Speaker 2: had spot lock on my boats.
- 16:51Speaker 6: If Spencer had written on breezy days, I would have
- 16:54Speaker 6: gone with wind anchor, I think.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Mmm, So tell me what a spot lock is.
- 17:01Speaker 10: So most trolley motors these days have a thing called
- 17:04Speaker 10: spot lock where you get to the spot and you
- 17:06Speaker 10: hit and you hit a button and it anchors you
- 17:08Speaker 10: there based off a GPS. So it'll the trolley motor
- 17:13Speaker 10: will move to keep you in one in one spot.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and it'll adjust. So if the wind goes from
- 17:20Speaker 2: five mile an hour to twenty mile per hour, recognize
- 17:23Speaker 2: that and keep you there.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Question three The topic is wildlife. This next great question
- 17:30Speaker 2: is via Levis This falcon is the world's fastest animal.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Doug quickly going to his whiteboard. This time Randall already
- 17:41Speaker 2: has his answer. Yanni and Seth are joining them.
- 17:45Speaker 3: How don't we spell this?
- 17:46Speaker 2: This falcon is the world's fastest animal. This is question three. Doug,
- 17:56Speaker 2: you have this one right?
- 17:59Speaker 5: I think I do. I'm confident but we also often
- 18:05Speaker 5: have false confidence.
- 18:06Speaker 2: With seth question. When Seth questioned how to spell it,
- 18:10Speaker 2: did that help you you think? Do you then be
- 18:12Speaker 2: like oh, okay, yeah, okay.
- 18:14Speaker 1: This felt there would be two f's or four spell.
- 18:18Speaker 2: The world's fastest animal, Hansy, Do you have this one right?
- 18:26Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 18:26Speaker 8: I'm not I'm not super confident.
- 18:28Speaker 7: Do you ever ski Beaver Creek? Hansey?
- 18:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I skied the downhill.
- 18:32Speaker 8: I don't know that super g actually not the downhill.
- 18:34Speaker 9: Oh, when you're racing days, you know, Jennifer used to
- 18:38Speaker 9: groom that scary soccer.
- 18:39Speaker 8: It's it's wild. When we showed up to like just
- 18:42Speaker 8: because you slipped the course.
- 18:43Speaker 11: You know, there was the starting ref and like the
- 18:48Speaker 11: courseworkers were the two were roped up and in crampons
- 18:52Speaker 11: next to the starting gate, which is like really intimidating
- 18:57Speaker 11: to begin with. But then one of the coaches went
- 18:59Speaker 11: out and of course the coaches don't sharpen their skis,
- 19:02Speaker 11: and he fell and slid for like half a mile.
- 19:05Speaker 7: Oh, it was like, I'm surprised that you could even
- 19:08Speaker 7: slip that upper section.
- 19:10Speaker 8: Well, I mean you just turn them sideways and go,
- 19:12Speaker 8: I mean slipping your.
- 19:13Speaker 7: Edge The reason you're right.
- 19:18Speaker 9: The reason this came up is because that whole area
- 19:20Speaker 9: of Beaver Creek is all named after birds of prey,
- 19:27Speaker 9: and that course is the Birds of Prey Downhill Course,
- 19:31Speaker 9: and all of the runs around it are all named
- 19:34Speaker 9: after different birds of prey. One of them, yes it is.
- 19:39Speaker 9: I recall the name, but I'm trying to right now
- 19:41Speaker 9: figure out which exact run it was. They had a
- 19:43Speaker 9: cool thing called the Talents Challenge, and it was a
- 19:46Speaker 9: great event where you would ski and they were all
- 19:50Speaker 9: bump runs and long bump runs, like multiple thousand feet
- 19:53Speaker 9: bump runs, and you had to ski every single run.
- 19:56Speaker 9: At the end of it, you got like a beer
- 19:58Speaker 9: and a hot dog and the hat said Talents Challenge finishers.
- 20:02Speaker 2: See if that mountain helped Yanni get this one?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth
- 20:09Speaker 2: Per say, peregrine randall, paragrin Reva says the flash Doug,
- 20:20Speaker 2: peregrine falcon. They got an idiot to peregrine falcon. Peregrine
- 20:26Speaker 2: falcons are found across the globe, from Alaska to Africa
- 20:29Speaker 2: to Australia. These birds can reach sixty miles per hour
- 20:33Speaker 2: during a normal flight and two hundred and forty miles
- 20:36Speaker 2: per hour during a hunting dive. Their quickness is thanks
- 20:39Speaker 2: to the perfect aerodynamic design and specialized respiratory system, which
- 20:44Speaker 2: allows them to breathe at speeds that would rupture the
- 20:46Speaker 2: airsack of most birds.
- 20:48Speaker 9: Does anybody know what that little hawk or falcon is
- 20:52Speaker 9: that lives around our office building that was eating that
- 20:54Speaker 9: pigeon the.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Other day, like the babyist of the.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Got killed?
- 21:03Speaker 6: It was and they told me that it got killed.
- 21:06Speaker 3: What happened?
- 21:07Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Nobody did an crapsy on.
- 21:09Speaker 3: It, w cam, we got it.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that they lived outside my office window for like
- 21:17Speaker 2: two weeks.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It was really a great hold.
- 21:20Speaker 2: What kind of owl was?
- 21:21Speaker 3: I think?
- 21:22Speaker 6: Yeah, one of my chickens got killed too. Dog said no,
- 21:26Speaker 6: this is the first mystery killing. Okay, one by Cal's dog,
- 21:30Speaker 6: one by my own hand, and then this third one.
- 21:33Speaker 6: We don't know.
- 21:34Speaker 2: But who were the suspects?
- 21:38Speaker 6: Well, I don't know.
- 21:41Speaker 7: You have to chick it was chewed up.
- 21:43Speaker 6: It was eating, yeah, and.
- 21:45Speaker 2: The top suspect always has to be a spouse, So
- 21:47Speaker 2: your wife is on the list.
- 21:49Speaker 1: She was.
- 21:50Speaker 6: She was horrified by this.
- 21:52Speaker 1: She said there were good cover.
- 21:54Speaker 6: She said there were vultures in the air, and she
- 21:58Speaker 6: googled whether vultures will actually kill a chicken versus just
- 22:02Speaker 6: scavenging on it, and apparently they're known to do that.
- 22:05Speaker 6: I can't attest to the breast chickens claims, but that
- 22:08Speaker 6: would shock. That's what the Internet told her, and I
- 22:11Speaker 6: have nothing else to go on. Spencer, Okay, cats.
- 22:14Speaker 3: What was eating on it?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Like?
- 22:15Speaker 3: Was the head eating off of it or.
- 22:18Speaker 6: From the the guts basically from like the ribs back
- 22:22Speaker 6: to the uni hole.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm thinking, Sydney, do you ever get emails that
- 22:31Speaker 2: there is a convincing.
- 22:34Speaker 7: In what's the word interstitial this banter?
- 22:38Speaker 3: No?
- 22:38Speaker 2: I think I think folks it would be the other way.
- 22:40Speaker 2: They would rather just have like a forty five minute
- 22:42Speaker 2: episode than a thirty two minute episode.
- 22:44Speaker 7: There's no one that just is coming here just.
- 22:46Speaker 3: For the trivia.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I mean, probably are, but they don't write it. I
- 22:49Speaker 2: don't think they're too annoyed yet. Question for the topic
- 22:53Speaker 2: is the question four. This home improvement store where customers
- 23:00Speaker 2: quote Save Big Money sells kit that allow you to
- 23:03Speaker 2: build your own four by eight or six by six
- 23:06Speaker 2: hunting blind, Save Big money is in quotations.
- 23:12Speaker 7: Oh, the jingle just went off in my head.
- 23:16Speaker 2: The way they write it is that big is all
- 23:19Speaker 2: capital letters. This home improvement store where customers save big money,
- 23:24Speaker 2: sells kits that allow you to build your four eight
- 23:28Speaker 2: or six by six hunting.
- 23:31Speaker 7: It depends on where you're from.
- 23:33Speaker 6: It's very regional.
- 23:36Speaker 1: More about.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Doug is confident. Weave a very confident Yanni Randall.
- 23:44Speaker 8: What is the extent of these like the footprint of
- 23:47Speaker 8: these stores?
- 23:49Speaker 2: Oh, well, I give it away if I say, but
- 23:53Speaker 2: I do look ahead of time because I don't want
- 23:55Speaker 2: to make a question that's just like yeah, in two
- 23:57Speaker 2: states or something like that. This one has a bigger
- 24:01Speaker 2: footprint than that. This home improvement store where customers say
- 24:04Speaker 2: big money, sells kits that allow you to build your
- 24:08Speaker 2: own four by eight or six by six hunting blind.
- 24:11Speaker 2: This may be a six for six question. Is everybody ready?
- 24:15Speaker 2: I don't know, Go ahead and reveal your answers. Set
- 24:18Speaker 2: Fleet Farm, Giannis and Randall and Hansei and Reva and
- 24:23Speaker 2: Doug say minards, they got it. The correct answer, money
- 24:29Speaker 2: is And they stretched from Wyoming to West Virginia the
- 24:34Speaker 2: box stores and then obviously going further South and North.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think they started in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
- 24:39Speaker 2: They started in Wisconsin. That's right. The four by eight
- 24:42Speaker 2: ground blind kit costs nine hundred dollars, while these six
- 24:45Speaker 2: by six elevated blind kit costs one thousand dollars. Hailing
- 24:49Speaker 2: from Wisconsin, Minards is best known for their mail in
- 24:52Speaker 2: rebates and catchy jingle Phil, please play that sweet bat.
- 24:55Speaker 7: I think you just sold sometlines.
- 25:02Speaker 6: I haven't heard this part before. You You'll save big money.
- 25:08Speaker 6: You'll save big money when you shot the nuns.
- 25:12Speaker 2: It's so hard to resist singing along.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I heard a bear Joe.
- 25:19Speaker 7: Was this something that you heard like when you're growing up.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Well, I grew up in Minard's Country, and some of
- 25:25Speaker 2: my first tree stands I bought were from Minards because
- 25:28Speaker 2: they sold a thirty five dollar tree stand and it
- 25:31Speaker 2: was a thirty five dollar tree stand, so I was
- 25:33Speaker 2: familiar that they had a hunting section. Uh, they didn't
- 25:36Speaker 2: sell these ground blind kids where I lived out that
- 25:38Speaker 2: I would have bought one, But I'm familiar with Minards
- 25:42Speaker 2: and their outdoor offering.
- 25:43Speaker 6: I just remember when we were when I was in
- 25:45Speaker 6: college in Chicago, just sitting on the couch late at night,
- 25:50Speaker 6: having a few cold ones, and the Minard's jingle would
- 25:54Speaker 6: come on and would all just sing it as impassionate,
- 25:57Speaker 6: as like the.
- 25:57Speaker 9: Most entire jingle, because all I remember it's like the
- 26:01Speaker 9: tail of the commercial money today.
- 26:06Speaker 6: At the end of that, I don't remember.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I remember they also had a holiday.
- 26:09Speaker 7: That's the the six hundred Empire today.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Phil is showing us photos of these ground blinds.
- 26:18Speaker 2: So that's the six by six one, and that one's
- 26:21Speaker 2: nine hundred dollars, and then there's the elevated one, the
- 26:24Speaker 2: four by eight that's one thousand dollars.
- 26:26Speaker 6: It's pretty nice.
- 26:27Speaker 2: There are not insulated, no windows.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Yeah, so there are countless people building them now. Actually,
- 26:36Speaker 5: one of my one of sharing Land's sponsors is a
- 26:39Speaker 5: blind company also.
- 26:41Speaker 2: So you've got a few permanent lines on the farm.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Yeah, we have a big one that Cal came and
- 26:48Speaker 5: hunted and it's a it's a really beautiful blind zero
- 26:51Speaker 5: four outdoors, the nicest blind I've ever had. And Cal,
- 26:57Speaker 5: I had this rifle that I was given and I
- 27:02Speaker 5: don't know what I was going to do with you.
- 27:03Speaker 5: So I'll tell you what you do with that rifle. Douglas.
- 27:05Speaker 5: You take it up there. You put that in that officeys,
- 27:09Speaker 5: because I have two office chairs in it. I mean,
- 27:11Speaker 5: there's a ridiculous place to go hide, but it's a
- 27:14Speaker 5: good spot.
- 27:15Speaker 3: There you go.
- 27:15Speaker 2: No Minard specials on the phone though. Question five, the
- 27:19Speaker 2: topic is conservation. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife defines blank
- 27:25Speaker 2: habitat as quote, the transitional zone between two habitats, like
- 27:30Speaker 2: where grassland meets forest. Seth and Randall already have their answers.
- 27:37Speaker 7: Yanni's texting okay, Doug.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Is joining them. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife defines blank
- 27:44Speaker 2: habitat as the transitional zone between two habitats, like where
- 27:48Speaker 2: grassland meets forest.
- 27:51Speaker 7: Boy, do I have some flavor tax?
- 27:53Speaker 2: Okay? Have you made this type of habitat on your farm? Riva,
- 28:01Speaker 2: who knew Minards because she grew up in Minard's country,
- 28:04Speaker 2: does not have this one. Doug, he grew up in
- 28:07Speaker 2: Minard's country. Seth, you're not.
- 28:08Speaker 10: You weren't in No, I'd never heard that dingle before.
- 28:11Speaker 10: I don't think I've ever ever heard the welcome. I
- 28:14Speaker 10: don't think I've ever been into Minards.
- 28:16Speaker 5: Okay, Wow, so you said farm and fleet and there's
- 28:20Speaker 5: another one called Fleet Farm, And.
- 28:25Speaker 10: The way you fleet right made me think it might
- 28:27Speaker 10: have been Fleet Farm, because that's your that's in your
- 28:30Speaker 10: neck of the woods.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, but you saved.
- 28:34Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, now I've got the jingles mixed up.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Find you find value at farming.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Fleet, there's Mills Fleet Farm, there's Blair Wale. Tough choice.
- 28:48Speaker 6: That's good Bill.
- 28:50Speaker 2: You grew up in Minard's country.
- 28:52Speaker 6: No, I don't think i'd ever heard of Minards until
- 28:54Speaker 6: I went to until I was living in Chicago.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I bet Ohio has like a dozen.
- 28:59Speaker 6: They might have, but that that might have been encroachment.
- 29:01Speaker 6: It might have been encroachment since I left there in
- 29:03Speaker 6: the early two thousand.
- 29:04Speaker 3: I don't know that Pennsylvania has one.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I don't think they do. I was looking at the map.
- 29:08Speaker 2: They were awful close to the Pennsylvania border. West Virginia
- 29:12Speaker 2: had a few. And again we're on question five. The
- 29:14Speaker 2: Oklahoma Department of Wildlife defines blank habitat as the transitional
- 29:19Speaker 2: zone between two habitats, like where grassland meets forest. Is
- 29:23Speaker 2: everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and
- 29:27Speaker 2: Yanni and Randall and Hansei say edge Reva says ideal.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Edge.
- 29:35Speaker 6: That's wrong.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I know the correct answer is edge habitat or eco tone.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Edge habitat is so important because these areas contain a
- 29:45Speaker 2: greater abundance and greater diversity of wildlife. This is true
- 29:49Speaker 2: for most animals, from big game to insects. Elder Leopold
- 29:52Speaker 2: was one of the first to notice this trend, writing
- 29:55Speaker 2: in nineteen thirty three that quote, the variety and density
- 29:58Speaker 2: of life is often the great along edges. Doug, give
- 30:02Speaker 2: me some examples of edge habitat.
- 30:04Speaker 5: On the Durant farm, we do some what's called feather edgework,
- 30:09Speaker 5: where we will go along the edge of a field
- 30:13Speaker 5: where it's transitioning from the field or the crp into
- 30:18Speaker 5: the woods. And rather when we when we farmed it,
- 30:20Speaker 5: you kept those edges rolling, so it was like an
- 30:23Speaker 5: l And what you're trying to do is create a
- 30:26Speaker 5: more of the long side of a triangle a slope.
- 30:30Speaker 5: And so you go in and cut you know, like
- 30:35Speaker 5: elm or ironwood, and just drop it into the edge
- 30:38Speaker 5: of the field and then allow the brush and what
- 30:44Speaker 5: not to come up in there. And that's it. We
- 30:47Speaker 5: have a lot of that actually around the edges of.
- 30:49Speaker 2: The when I was writing this question last night and
- 30:51Speaker 2: then researching it. The feather edge that you talked about
- 30:54Speaker 2: there where you trim, you know, like thin out some
- 30:57Speaker 2: of the forests. That was the textbook example of the
- 30:59Speaker 2: best you know, edge habitat work you can do, Yanni,
- 31:02Speaker 2: Is that what you got going on your place?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 31:04Speaker 9: I don't have, Like our place is all woods, so
- 31:09Speaker 9: you really got to take out some woods if you
- 31:11Speaker 9: want to make edge habitat. But Craig Harper, who's probably
- 31:14Speaker 9: my favorite, I guess ecologists, is maybe what what you'd
- 31:18Speaker 9: call him, I high. I recommend anybody looking in to
- 31:21Speaker 9: get into, you know, management, to read Craig stuff. But
- 31:25Speaker 9: he makes the point. It's a great point. It really
- 31:28Speaker 9: changed how I looked at habitat in general and edge
- 31:31Speaker 9: habitat is He's like, look, the only reason it's like
- 31:35Speaker 9: edge habitat is because you have two different habitats that
- 31:39Speaker 9: come together. And then you're saying, oh, well, I really
- 31:42Speaker 9: like the habitat where they come together. You can have
- 31:46Speaker 9: that same type of habitat over a greater area. It
- 31:50Speaker 9: doesn't just have to be that one edge, if that
- 31:53Speaker 9: makes sense. And it's really all about controlling sunlight, and
- 31:56Speaker 9: so you know, the quail or the rabbit or whatever
- 31:59Speaker 9: that live along that edge edge, they don't want to
- 32:01Speaker 9: be out in the middle of the field. Maybe it's
- 32:02Speaker 9: the grass is too thick, there's not enough you know,
- 32:05Speaker 9: cover from avian predators. And then if you go into
- 32:08Speaker 9: the woods, there's no grass, there's nothing you know, at
- 32:11Speaker 9: ground level, because it's just open canopy up above. And
- 32:14Speaker 9: so he really challenges I think people to look at
- 32:16Speaker 9: it to like, hey, take edge habitat, but make edge
- 32:19Speaker 9: habitat just be everywhere. Make that be your main habitat
- 32:22Speaker 9: instead of just having it along the edges.
- 32:24Speaker 5: So like with the work that you're doing, you're creating
- 32:27Speaker 5: pockets within your wooded land. Right, they're more open and
- 32:30Speaker 5: as a result, you've got smaller you have brush and
- 32:35Speaker 5: grass and all that, and so uneven silver cultures like
- 32:39Speaker 5: is one.
- 32:39Speaker 9: I think a mosaic is a good description.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Phil.
- 32:44Speaker 2: We're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a
- 32:45Speaker 2: scoreboard update.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Anybody's game.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Reva has two points, seth and Jannis are tied up
- 32:59Speaker 4: with three, and Hansi are tied up with four and
- 33:02Speaker 4: with a perfect game at halftime, it's randall Williams probably
- 33:05Speaker 4: grateful Abrodi is not here today.
- 33:07Speaker 6: It could be a I really enjoy I really enjoy
- 33:11Speaker 6: scheduling games of trivia for when other employees of this
- 33:15Speaker 6: fine company have to go pick up their kids. So
- 33:18Speaker 6: you just continue.
- 33:21Speaker 2: It's great question six. The topic is wildlife. This next
- 33:27Speaker 2: great question is via Sam Rival. This sixteen letter word
- 33:31Speaker 2: is defined as quote the attribution of human characteristics or
- 33:36Speaker 2: behavior to a god, animal, or object.
- 33:41Speaker 7: I just wrote a trivia question.
- 33:44Speaker 9: Should I say this now?
- 33:46Speaker 7: I'm not gonna say it because.
- 33:47Speaker 3: I want to.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Randall is counting his letters. This sixteen letter word this
- 33:52Speaker 2: may be the longest answer.
- 33:53Speaker 3: We've ever had.
- 33:54Speaker 6: I was about to ask.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, is defined as the attribution of human characteristics or
- 33:59Speaker 2: behavior to a god, animal, or object. Randa, you have
- 34:04Speaker 2: this one, right, boy?
- 34:05Speaker 7: I hope so.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Spencer Hansa, you got sixteen letters down there?
- 34:09Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I think I got it.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Doug is also counting. Oh no, oh, okay, well maybe
- 34:17Speaker 2: you misspelled something.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Wait a minute, I have too many.
- 34:22Speaker 2: You can give one of your letters to Riva and
- 34:25Speaker 2: then you guys have it. This sixteen letter word is
- 34:28Speaker 2: defined as the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to
- 34:33Speaker 2: a god, animal or object.
- 34:35Speaker 6: I actually couldn't read my own handwriting well enough to
- 34:38Speaker 6: count mine, so I'm just going off my you're just confident. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 6: I was trying to distinguish is that A? And I
- 34:46Speaker 6: just said, whatever, be honest, how you doing.
- 34:51Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure I have the right answer.
- 34:52Speaker 2: But one, I don't know how many sixteen letter words
- 34:57Speaker 2: exist out there. So if you're close, I bet you
- 34:59Speaker 2: have it, Yanni.
- 35:04Speaker 7: I'm literally writing, give me a break.
- 35:06Speaker 5: Sixteen letters, sixteen letters, spelling is gonna I mean, so
- 35:09Speaker 5: you're gonna have to have the spelling correct.
- 35:11Speaker 2: You don't have to have it correct as long as
- 35:12Speaker 2: you have sixteen letters right. Well, you know, you can
- 35:15Speaker 2: even have fifteen letters and we'll call it close enough.
- 35:18Speaker 5: Maybe I had to try a third. I have two spellings.
- 35:20Speaker 5: Maybe I had to try a third.
- 35:22Speaker 2: This is not a spelling bee, But I think when
- 35:24Speaker 2: we get in that new studio, we're gonna have a
- 35:26Speaker 2: spelling bee someday. Trivia players, how they count me for that?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Maybe we'll have a Jabbroni team of spellers be part
- 35:37Speaker 2: of that.
- 35:44Speaker 6: Mmmm.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yanni's still stuck on fifteen. Not gonna hold it against you.
- 35:51Speaker 2: If you only got fifteen letters, but it probably won't hm, hm,
- 35:55Speaker 2: you wouldn't win the media. You spelling bee though this
- 35:59Speaker 2: sixteen your word is defined as the attribution of human
- 36:02Speaker 2: characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object.
- 36:07Speaker 1: You're just gonna go with the spellings, close one or
- 36:12Speaker 1: throw an on the end.
- 36:13Speaker 3: That's what I do, Doug. No shame to it.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I thought about putting on.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And there's one I need to double somewhere.
- 36:24Speaker 9: Oh my gosh, now I have two answers.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna pufferent.
- 36:30Speaker 2: You gotta have one answer locked in. If you flip
- 36:32Speaker 2: over that whiteboard and you have two answers, Doug, you're
- 36:34Speaker 2: gonna get.
- 36:35Speaker 6: It wrong unless they add up to sixteen letters together.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yanni has picked his word, Doug, do you have your answer?
- 36:44Speaker 2: Country Dancer, Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says anthropomorphize,
- 36:51Speaker 2: Yannis anthropomorphize, Randall anthropomorphism, Pansi anthropomorphism, viva person onification, Douglas anthropomorphize.
- 37:05Speaker 2: The correct answer is anthropomorphism. If you said anthropomorphise, will
- 37:09Speaker 2: give that to you as well. Some creative spellings in
- 37:12Speaker 2: the room. Those sixteen letters A N T R O,
- 37:17Speaker 2: P M O R P H I S m anybody
- 37:23Speaker 2: have that read on?
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yes, yes, those guys.
- 37:26Speaker 9: See I actually wrote the question literally yesterday with anthropomorphization
- 37:31Speaker 9: and it was twenty letters.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Wow.
- 37:33Speaker 7: Yeah, I guess.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Anthropomorphism can be applied to fictional animals like the teenage
- 37:40Speaker 2: mutant Ninja, turtles or Smokey Bear, and real animals like
- 37:43Speaker 2: wolves and Yellowstone or the big giant bucks on Doug's farm.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Anthropomorphism is a part of being human, with anthropologists saying
- 37:51Speaker 2: we've done this for forty thousand years, as evidenced by
- 37:55Speaker 2: ancient statues and cave art that depict animals with human
- 37:58Speaker 2: like qualities.
- 38:00Speaker 9: Okay, an example, hold on, hold on. Personification, which I
- 38:04Speaker 9: also had in Reva had is the attribution of a
- 38:08Speaker 9: personal nature or human characteristic to something non human.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Is it sixteen letters?
- 38:13Speaker 9: Or the representation of an abstract quality and human form? No,
- 38:16Speaker 9: it's fifteen Oh, I'm sorry.
- 38:18Speaker 7: He was so close.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Sixteen letters, though, said we needed Doug do some anthropomorphizing
- 38:24Speaker 2: of critters on your farm. You got like a buck
- 38:26Speaker 2: who's a real bully, or maybe a turkey who's really smart.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Well, oh, we have a turkey that's we call him Limpy.
- 38:33Speaker 5: He's been around for this will be his If he's
- 38:36Speaker 5: around this spring, it'll be his third season. I'm seeing
- 38:40Speaker 5: him and he was a two year old when I
- 38:43Speaker 5: first saw him get limping.
- 38:45Speaker 7: That sounds like a job for the Latvian.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I've seen him.
- 38:51Speaker 5: But it's so funny because I had a friend there
- 38:52Speaker 5: hunting and I was like, oh, there he is out
- 38:54Speaker 5: in the field and and he's like Jack in that leg.
- 39:00Speaker 5: He walks like a pirate, you know, it's just what
- 39:01Speaker 5: he makes me think of. And he goes. I think
- 39:04Speaker 5: I can catch him, and I was like, here, go ahead,
- 39:10Speaker 5: broken and he had I really want to. I want
- 39:14Speaker 5: somebody to kill him because he it's just a stiff leg.
- 39:17Speaker 5: It's like his knee doesn't work. It's like it's a
- 39:19Speaker 5: he looks like a pirate. It's like a peg leg OLYMPI.
- 39:23Speaker 5: This might be the spring it happens.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Question seven. The topic is woodsmanship. This next great question
- 39:28Speaker 2: is via Coulton Getterman. Iowa State University says this type
- 39:33Speaker 2: of walnut tree, which is used to make high end furniture,
- 39:36Speaker 2: is quote the most valuable tree in Iowa.
- 39:40Speaker 7: Nice bone to Doug.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Bones the whole time.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Or Riva, who grew up in the driftless region of
- 39:48Speaker 2: Iowa or not. Iowa State University says this type of
- 39:53Speaker 2: walnut tree, which is used to make high end furniture,
- 39:56Speaker 2: is quote the most valuable tree in Iowa. In of
- 40:00Speaker 2: these on the Durham farm, Yes, sir, okay planted or natural?
- 40:08Speaker 5: Well, we didn't plant any, so you know, they were
- 40:13Speaker 5: introduced over time. And I will say this we planted
- 40:16Speaker 5: or we we it's gonna I guess it's the walnut tree.
- 40:21Speaker 6: So whatever.
- 40:21Speaker 5: So they drop walnuts on the ground and if you
- 40:24Speaker 5: have them near the edge of a CRP field, the
- 40:27Speaker 5: squirrels are going out and planting with real paint in
- 40:30Speaker 5: the butt because you can't have woody stuff grown in
- 40:33Speaker 5: your CRP. So I cut four of these.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Oh did that hurt you?
- 40:42Speaker 1: No, they were nice big trees.
- 40:46Speaker 5: Didn't hurt me at all. I've had run ins with
- 40:49Speaker 5: chainsaws before, but not in this case. And uh, they
- 40:54Speaker 5: were they were nice trees.
- 40:56Speaker 1: They weren't, you know, super high grade.
- 40:58Speaker 5: But and so like ears, we had a couple, we
- 41:02Speaker 5: had some veneer logs in our net was about fifteen
- 41:07Speaker 5: dollars a tree, which is kind of a low end
- 41:10Speaker 5: on some of that.
- 41:11Speaker 2: But the ones left you have trail cameras on, so
- 41:14Speaker 2: nobody's going to come and steal them either.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:17Speaker 5: Oh, and those are the ones though, because they in
- 41:19Speaker 5: the right condition they grow really nice and tall and straight.
- 41:22Speaker 5: And I have one that's in this spot that would
- 41:25Speaker 5: make the perfect tree stand.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Tree.
- 41:30Speaker 5: I did have a guy shimmy up it with a
- 41:32Speaker 5: climbing stand, which prompted me to then put a big
- 41:36Speaker 5: ring of ribbon and paint around it with a big
- 41:40Speaker 5: no on it.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Again, how don't you well? And you know, I mean
- 41:45Speaker 1: it was fine because we climbed it, but yeah.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Iowa State University says this type of walnut tree, which
- 41:51Speaker 2: is used to make high end furniture, is the most
- 41:53Speaker 2: valuable tree in Iowa. Go ahead and reveal your answers,
- 41:58Speaker 2: Seth and Yanni and Randall and Hansi and Doug.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Color.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I know that's her favorite color. It's a black walnut.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Black walnuts are not only the most valuable tree and
- 42:15Speaker 2: I what, they're one of the most valuable trees in
- 42:17Speaker 2: North America. It's estimated that a fifty foot black walnut
- 42:21Speaker 2: is worth between five thousand dollars and twenty five thousand dollars,
- 42:24Speaker 2: with sixty footers, sometimes worth more than forty thousand dollars.
- 42:28Speaker 2: The most common uses for black walnut would our cabinets, furniture, flooring, kitchen, where,
- 42:33Speaker 2: musical instruments, and gunstocks.
- 42:35Speaker 1: What do you think, Seth, do you a big fan
- 42:37Speaker 1: of black walnut forty canta?
- 42:39Speaker 9: The color of its Yeah, I do like it.
- 42:43Speaker 3: I like I like when you get the.
- 42:45Speaker 10: The like the contrast of the light and the dark
- 42:48Speaker 10: rich Yeah, Spencer.
- 42:50Speaker 6: This reminded me that we didn't address my Maya culpa
- 42:53Speaker 6: from her last woodsmanship question.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Oh, okay, do you have to say that for you'd
- 42:58Speaker 2: like to do it now?
- 42:59Speaker 6: No, we can say. Should we say it for another time?
- 43:01Speaker 2: Sure? You say for other people on the edge of
- 43:02Speaker 2: their seats?
- 43:03Speaker 1: Question eight.
- 43:04Speaker 2: This episode's running long. The topic is fishing. NBA players
- 43:10Speaker 2: went fishing on a daily basis in Bay Lake and
- 43:13Speaker 2: World Showcase Lagoon while quarantined at this place in twenty twenty.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Randall has his answer, this is going to keep his
- 43:24Speaker 2: perfect game going. Our other five players seems stumped. NBA
- 43:29Speaker 2: players went fishing on a daily basis in Bay Lake
- 43:32Speaker 2: and World Showcase Lagoon while quarantined at this place in
- 43:37Speaker 2: twenty twenty.
- 43:38Speaker 6: It's also famously where Jimmy Butler opened a coffee stand,
- 43:43Speaker 6: Big Head Coffee that is now a brand of his
- 43:46Speaker 6: very famous.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Where's he from?
- 43:51Speaker 6: They were quarantined at this place where they lived.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Also rumored to have some relations with a reporter at
- 43:59Speaker 2: that same Yeah.
- 44:01Speaker 6: Lou Williams left this place, yes, to go get some
- 44:04Speaker 6: WS at Magic City.
- 44:07Speaker 4: And he's also where the Beatles officially broke up and
- 44:09Speaker 4: Richard Nixon said, I am not a crook.
- 44:11Speaker 6: What else?
- 44:13Speaker 7: What else?
- 44:14Speaker 3: What else happened here?
- 44:16Speaker 2: NBA players went fishing on a daily basis in Bay
- 44:19Speaker 2: Lake and World Showcase Lagoon.
- 44:21Speaker 4: I thought at this place, I knew those those hints
- 44:26Speaker 4: weren't actually hints for anybody.
- 44:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw that. The State of Atlanta, I believe
- 44:29Speaker 6: is they might make there's a movement to lemon pepper
- 44:33Speaker 6: chicken wing their official chicken wing flace.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Should do that.
- 44:37Speaker 6: Did I see the State of Atlanta? Yeah, State of Georgia.
- 44:41Speaker 6: It's late in the day. We should really find a
- 44:43Speaker 6: window between when my powers begin to dwindle and die.
- 44:47Speaker 6: Yawn a lot, and also.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Kids, NBA players went fishing on a daily basis in
- 44:55Speaker 2: Bay Lake and World Showcase lagoon while quarantined at this
- 45:00Speaker 2: place in twenty twenty. It's his question eight. We'll get
- 45:04Speaker 2: a scoreboard update after this, Seth, Are you need to
- 45:08Speaker 2: come up with an answer?
- 45:09Speaker 3: Nope.
- 45:11Speaker 2: I'm stunned about the Richard Nixon detail this film we're getting.
- 45:16Speaker 3: We're getting some cell phone phone, cell phones on.

- 45:36Speaker 7: A mine's on airplane.
- 45:38Speaker 3: That doesn't always help.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Is everybody ready?
- 45:40Speaker 3: There?
- 45:40Speaker 7: We go go now ssas phones, Seth, do you give up?
- 45:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answer. Seth. Without an answer,
- 45:49Speaker 2: Giannis says Epcot Center, Randall says disney World, Hansei says Atlanta.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Reavis says San Francisco. Doug, there is Tampa.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I was in the neighborhood.

- 46:12Speaker 4: World Showcase lagoon is on is on it right next
- 46:15Speaker 4: to it.
- 46:16Speaker 6: But I understand the confusion with Atlanta because Lou Williams
- 46:19Speaker 6: went to Magic City, but he traveled outside of the
- 46:21Speaker 6: quarantine bubble under the auspices of going to a funeral
- 46:24Speaker 6: for a relative.
- 46:25Speaker 3: This was such a.
- 46:28Speaker 1: The NBA because I thought.
- 46:32Speaker 2: The NBA created the bubble to finish their twenty nineteen
- 46:35Speaker 2: twenty twenty season. During this time, players were quarantined at
- 46:39Speaker 2: Disney World for up to ninety three days while the
- 46:41Speaker 2: league held its playoffs. Fishing became so popular among players
- 46:45Speaker 2: that NBC Sports declared it was quote Everyone's favorite NBA
- 46:49Speaker 2: Bubble pastime. Players were allowed to fish on Bay Lake,
- 46:52Speaker 2: the Seven Seas Lagoon, Village Lake, Crescent Lake, and the
- 46:56Speaker 2: World Showcase Lagoon. These water bodies were stocked with largemouth
- 46:59Speaker 2: bass in the nineteen sixties and have been naturally reproducing
- 47:03Speaker 2: ever since. There is Luka Doncic holding a large is
- 47:07Speaker 2: all head that is all had. That is not a
- 47:10Speaker 2: healthy large mountain.
- 47:12Speaker 6: Apologies, Mavericks fans out there.

- 47:36Speaker 3: Questions left, it seemed like more of a sports question.
- 47:41Speaker 4: With two questions we did hanging out with two points,
- 47:46Speaker 4: We've got Seth with five, Hansi, Giannis, and Doug. Now
- 47:50Speaker 4: I'll have six points and Randall's still holding onto that
- 47:53Speaker 4: perfect game with eight?
- 47:54Speaker 7: Rand the next can you.
- 47:57Speaker 6: Cut all that out? When we couldn't recognize Paul to
- 48:00Speaker 6: be fair for listeners, he was staying at a very
- 48:02Speaker 6: weird angle where the camera was down near his knees
- 48:04Speaker 6: and so we didn't really get a good head on looks.

- 48:15Speaker 6: a feature in uh, I want to say Sports Illustrated
- 48:18Speaker 6: of him fishing and he was like, this is how
- 48:20Speaker 6: I rehabbed, and it's just him on his boat, just fishing.
