Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by the hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam here and on this episode of The Hypnotist, it's
- 0:43all about anxiety and levels of anxiety.
- 0:47And I was working with a client that found themselves in a
- 0:51situation where they felt the anxiety in their chest, in their
- 0:55gut. And that would mean that they
- 0:57would. Avoid.
- 0:58Doing certain things, and that's quite common because anxiety is
- 1:02a lot about anticipating the future and trying to mitigate
- 1:06risks or reducing emotional intensity.
- 1:11So this particular client had these kind of feelings at the
- 1:13idea of doing stuff because they had had experiences in the past
- 1:17where doing the thing meant that they felt this horrible
- 1:21sensation in their body. This particular client was quite
- 1:25young, a young adult, loved playing games and had this way
- 1:32of feeling relaxed and calm while playing games.
- 1:35So this hypnosis session is the gamification of anxiety, uses
- 1:41the idea of a real game like football and then a video game
- 1:46like AVR headset to look at things that in the past caused
- 1:52real intense levels of anxiety. So they could imagine an avatar.
- 1:57An avatar if you've seen the movie.
- 1:58Is these kind? Of alien bodies.
- 2:01But an avatar in a video game is effectively the character that
- 2:04you play. So the character that he was
- 2:06playing was a confident, calm, relaxed version of himself.
- 2:11And by playing that character, it then links to a resource
- 2:14state. And then lots of video games
- 2:16have these little score bars. XP means experience points and
- 2:21you've got confidence and things.
- 2:23So he can see them going up and changing depending on the
- 2:26circumstances. So if there are things in your
- 2:30life that makes you makes you anxious and makes you feel a bit
- 2:34overwhelmed and you like the idea of video games, this
- 2:37hypnosis brings the two together.
- 2:40So you might find that useful in the in the show notes, in the
- 2:44description. There's loads of free things,
- 2:47free guides, free downloads, free courses to check them out
- 2:52and also if you like the idea of working with me directly, there
- 2:55will be a free consultation call that you can book by clicking
- 2:59the link in the description. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:04comfortable place that you won't be disturbed.
- 3:07Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and on the
- 3:33outward breath just allow your eyelids to close.
- 3:37That's it. Breathing in relaxation and
- 3:46exhaling any tension. Just feel your eyelids getting
- 3:50heavier and more relaxed. That's it, breathe in and
- 3:59breathe out and on the next outward breath, just feel that
- 4:07with your eyes closed you can focus more on the sound of my
- 4:11voice, breathing and relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 4:20The weight of your eyelids getting heavier and heavier, and
- 4:27I want you to scan your body for any clues of tension or anxiety
- 4:35and just feel that you're breathing in a bright colour
- 4:40that represents resourceful relaxation.
- 4:47Maybe that's a bright blue, yellow or a different colour,
- 4:52but as you imagine breathing in that resourceful relaxation,
- 4:57just imagine it melting away any of that tension or anxiety,
- 5:04breath by breath, so that as you breathe out, it feels like that
- 5:10tension or anxiety is leaving your body in your outward
- 5:14breath. So each breath takes you deeper
- 5:23and deeper, relaxed as you breathe in and breathe out.
- 5:31I want you to imagine what it would feel like to stand at the
- 5:36top of a staircase, maybe a wooden staircase or maybe made
- 5:42of marble. But I want you to imagine that
- 5:47as you walk down the staircase, the bottom of the staircase is a
- 5:52football pitch. A football pitch on a sunny day.
- 5:57But right now you're at the top of the staircase.
- 6:03And very soon as I countdown from 12:50 with each descending
- 6:09number, you will imagine what it would feel like to feel 10%
- 6:16deeper and deeper relaxed with each downward step, each
- 6:23descending number, to breathe in that feeling of resourceful
- 6:30relaxation. And 10 take the first step down
- 6:34the staircase feeling a wave of relaxation.
- 6:41And then 9, another step down the staircase, this time feeling
- 6:47a release around your forehead, your jaw.
- 6:51The muscles in your face are relaxing.
- 6:54That's it. And then eight, another step
- 7:00down the staircase, this time focus on the top of your head
- 7:08all the way down to the back of your neck.
- 7:11And just imagine all of those tiny muscles and tendons
- 7:16relaxing. That's it.
- 7:22And then seven, another step down the staircase as this time
- 7:28you focus on your neck and your shoulders.
- 7:32Some people consider this the bank account of stress.
- 7:36And just imagine stress being like crystals of ice frozen into
- 7:43your muscle tissue. And as you step down the
- 7:46staircase and breathe in that resourceful relaxation, those
- 7:52crystals of ice that feel like stress are just melting away.
- 7:56They're in your neck and your shoulders.
- 7:59And so they loosen and relax. And as seven turns to six, just
- 8:05imagine your whole arms feeling limp, loose, and heavy.
- 8:12Another step down the staircase. That's it.
- 8:17Just imagine what it would feel like for your arms to be so
- 8:21relaxed. They felt like the limbs of a
- 8:24puppet with no strings. Limp, loose and relax.
- 8:28And then five, halfway down the staircase.
- 8:30Now, as you focus on your internal organs, imagine your
- 8:36heart relaxing, your lungs relaxing, your stomach relaxing,
- 8:44That's it. And then four, another step
- 8:46down. Now focus on your gut, because
- 8:51the gut and the chest is where anxiety feels like it lives.
- 8:58But actually it's just tiny muscles that get tense sometimes
- 9:03in the gut, sometimes around the rib cage.
- 9:08But as you breathe in that resourceful relaxation, feel all
- 9:11of those muscles relax now. That's it.
- 9:15And then four becomes 3. Focus now on your legs.
- 9:21Another step down the staircase and just feel the top of your
- 9:24legs feeling so relaxed. And then two down into your calf
- 9:28muscles and now feel like your legs, like your arms.
- 9:34I like that puppet with no strings, just all limp, loose
- 9:40and relaxed. That's it.
- 9:43And then one, the final step on the staircase.
- 9:48Now focus on your feet, your ankles, your toes.
- 9:52Just feel a wave of relaxation from the toes to the top of your
- 9:56head, all the way down to your fingertips.
- 10:00And when your whole body is relaxed, take that final step
- 10:05onto the football pitch. And I want you to imagine that
- 10:09football pitch is on a sunny day under blue skies.
- 10:18Not hot, but not cold, just a warm sunny day.
- 10:23And imagine you're wearing whatever clothing is suitable to
- 10:26be on that football pitch. And I want you to notice how
- 10:32comfortable, relaxed, and confident you feel on that
- 10:37football pitch and just awaken all of those neural pathways
- 10:43linked to relaxation, confidence, a calmness.
- 10:49And I want you to imagine you're not alone on that football
- 10:54pitch. There's other people around.
- 10:58And even though there are other people, you still feel
- 11:04comfortable, calm and relaxed. Nothing fazes you here and just
- 11:13feel that wonderful feeling of resourcefulness.
- 11:20That's it. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 11:25relaxed you become. That's it.
- 11:29And I want you to imagine, for some reason, on that football
- 11:36pitch is the most advanced VR headset you've ever seen, the
- 11:43latest in virtual reality technology.
- 11:46I want you to imagine it's lightweight, futuristic, glowing
- 11:54softly, with an energy that feels safe, reassuring and
- 11:59powerful. And notice as you put it on, the
- 12:06outside world begins to fade away and a whole new reality
- 12:12begins to form. And this is a world that you
- 12:18control, a world where every challenge is simply a different
- 12:25level of a game. And in this game, you are not
- 12:30just yourself, you are also your avatar.
- 12:39And as this world loads around you, colours sharpen, sounds
- 12:45become crisp, and I want you to notice your avatar standing
- 12:49before you. This doesn't have to be like a
- 12:54monster or a robot. This avatar is simply the
- 13:01version of you that is calm, confident and resourceful.
- 13:07It's you, but different. The most confident, comfortable,
- 13:12relaxed version of you. And just study your avatar.
- 13:20See how they breathe steadily, they stand tall, and even the
- 13:26way they move is with ease and certainty.
- 13:32And when you're convinced that this avatar is a confident,
- 13:37resourceful, comfortable version of you, let me know by nodding
- 13:40your head. That's it.
- 13:44And then you step forward, merging with that avatar like
- 13:54it's a skin on top of yours. You are now inside the Avatar,
- 14:03becoming them from the inside out, and I want you to feel what
- 14:09it's like to move as this confident self, like every nerve
- 14:15and muscle, already programmed to respond in ways that help you
- 14:19win. Every level you face will make
- 14:23you stronger, calmer and more powerful.
- 14:34Just like any great game, I want you to notice you have a display
- 14:41bar. In one corner is your confidence
- 14:48bar, glowing brightly. Another is your calm meter,
- 14:55gently pulsing, steady and reliable and in the center.
- 15:01Just imagine seeing an XP counter showing that every new
- 15:06challenge gives you more experience, more strength, more
- 15:11wisdom, and the rules of this game are simple to win.
- 15:20You do the thing, even if before or even now it feels hard.
- 15:30The more you do it, the stronger your avatar becomes.
- 15:36And if you avoid whatever The thing is in this game, you
- 15:42simply stay on the same level. You don't lose, you don't fail,
- 15:48you just don't progress and action means unlocking new
- 15:54skills, new powers and new freedom.
- 16:04And now imagine the game creating levels for you.
- 16:08And let's imagine level 1 is you travelling alone.
- 16:14Think of a destination and allow the VR world to create it, and
- 16:21then see yourself either as a third person, like you're seeing
- 16:29yourself from above or behind, or feel like you're looking at
- 16:33the world through your own eyes. And maybe you see yourself
- 16:40travelling to that destination, maybe on a bus or on a train.
- 16:46Maybe it's abroad and you're travelling on a plane.
- 16:51But I want you to notice your levels.
- 16:52Notice as your avatar, your calm meter rises with each steady
- 16:59breath, your confidence bar glows brighter with every step
- 17:06you take. And just by playing this level,
- 17:13imagining going to that destination alone, you've gained
- 17:18XP. I don't want you to imagine each
- 17:25time you listen to this recording, the destination will
- 17:27change and you get to make it more difficult each time.
- 17:33But for this destination, if you feel like you can imagine what
- 17:38it would be like to calmly and confidently get to that
- 17:42destination to travel alone successfully, let me know by
- 17:48nodding your head. That's it.
- 17:56And now see a congratulations sign on the screen as it
- 18:00welcomes you to level 2. And this level is called
- 18:06university. And maybe it's an open day, or
- 18:12maybe it's starting your very first term or freshers week.
- 18:19I want you to see that this level involves packing,
- 18:21travelling, meeting new people. And you discover your avatar has
- 18:27a new skill, unlock adaptability.
- 18:31And this skill means that no matter what's unfamiliar, you
- 18:38simply learn quickly. Every conversation, every
- 18:43experience just adds to your XP. Every classroom, every social
- 18:51event, every interaction is a small victory and you can feel
- 18:58it. This is a winnable game because
- 19:03just being there is winning. And if you could imagine,
- 19:09whether it's for a day or several days, feeling calm,
- 19:14confident and relaxed in this new environment, let me know by
- 19:19nodding your head. That's it.
- 19:24And now you progress to Level 3 exams and revision.
- 19:35And maybe in the past it felt daunting, pressured, stressful.
- 19:43And this is A level about coping with pressure, but I want you to
- 19:50notice a new power up, and it's called focus mode.
- 19:56You can activate it whenever you want just by making time and
- 20:00space to focus on one thing. And when you activate it,
- 20:06distractions fade and any intrusive thoughts or in a
- 20:11dialogue just is dialed all the way down.
- 20:17And you can see your calm meter balancing pressure with clarity,
- 20:24so much so that every page you revise, every question answered,
- 20:30every moment of preparation adds to your XP.
- 20:36And you realize it's not about perfection, winning or losing.
- 20:42It's about progressing, doing what you can to give you the
- 20:47best probability of doing well. And I want you to imagine in
- 20:53this VR game going through all of the steps, revision,
- 21:00preparation, practice papers, and then actually doing the
- 21:05exam. And if you feel you can do that
- 21:11in this game in a calm, confident, relaxed way, let me
- 21:16know about nodding your head. And now the screen updates to
- 21:24level 4, simply called health anxieties.
- 21:32And this level can seem darker, but as your avatar, you now hold
- 21:39a healing aura, kind of like a force field, so that whenever
- 21:47worries come, you breathe, and that aura glows stronger.
- 21:56It soothes, reassures and calms, and you realize that your avatar
- 22:02knows how to manage uncertainty not by running from it, but by
- 22:11facing it with calm strength. That's why I want you to imagine
- 22:19what it would be like just within the game to have some
- 22:21kind of health issue, but rather than worrying or panicking or
- 22:27overthinking, activate your health aura, feel those healing
- 22:33properties, and notice you're in a dialogue assumes the best.
- 22:43These health issues are no big deal, but that doesn't mean you
- 22:47ignore them. If you need an appointment, you
- 22:52need some feedback or test, you do the tests in a calm,
- 22:58confident, relaxed way. Because in this level you
- 23:04realize it's better to assume that it's nothing serious, have
- 23:10any tests that are needed, assume everything's fine until
- 23:20you have irrefutable evidence, then it isn't, rather than the
- 23:25other way round. In the past, maybe you assumed
- 23:30that it could be something serious until you had the
- 23:33reassurance that it wasn't. So this game is about doing the
- 23:38opposite, and if you could imagine that health issue, you
- 23:43assume it's no big deal. Get it checked out and whatever
- 23:49the tests come back with, you feel like you can handle it.
- 23:53Just let me know by nodding your head.
- 23:58That's in. And some games have a final
- 24:04boss, a nemesis you have to defeat in order to complete the
- 24:10game. And the final boss in this game
- 24:16is anxiety itself. Perhaps you could imagine a big
- 24:25scary enemy with a T-shirt that says Anxiety, But you realise
- 24:35this is just pixels, A generated image, an illusion.
- 24:43And most anxiety is an illusion. Anxiety is like shadows, action
- 24:52is like light. They can't coexist in the same
- 24:56space, and with every breath, your calm meter rises.
- 25:02With every step toward that nemesis, your confidence bar
- 25:07fills. And with every choice to face
- 25:11rather than avoid, your XP counter explodes.
- 25:17With power boost after boost after boost, you realize the way
- 25:25to win isn't to destroy anxiety, to play better, smarter,
- 25:32stronger. To assume you have the resources
- 25:36to cope until anxiety shrinks and fades.
- 25:43And just imagine that big scary final boss shrinking to
- 25:50something the size of a small insect, like an Ant, when that
- 25:57final boss has just shrunk to something small and
- 26:00insignificant. Let me know about nodding your
- 26:02head. That's it.
- 26:06And as you claim victory, you unlock a new permanent upgrade,
- 26:12empowered mode, a deep knowing that you can face life's levels
- 26:20and that you grow by doing, not avoiding that It's the
- 26:25challenges themselves that enable you to win.
- 26:33And as you think about the days ahead, you know that whenever
- 26:37you feel uncertainty, you can activate your avatar, feel that
- 26:43calmness rise, the confidence bar glow, and the XP counter
- 26:49increase. And it doesn't matter what The
- 26:53thing is. Big spaces, unfamiliar places,
- 27:01people you don't know. Every challenge is a chance to
- 27:07level up. I want you to think about your
- 27:11favorite game, and if it wasn't challenging, you would be bored.
- 27:18If it didn't become more difficult, you wouldn't want to
- 27:21play. I want you to get a sense that
- 27:25life is now a game for you. Avoiding difficult levels stops
- 27:32you growing, but feeling that you have the ability to activate
- 27:39resources or learn how to handle that situation shrinks anxiety
- 27:46and grows confidence. So you no longer need to avoid
- 27:54because avoidance is like pressing pause.
- 27:57And you were born to play, born to win.
- 28:06I want you to imagine taking off that VR headset, finding
- 28:10yourself back on that football pitch and thinking like
- 28:14football. Is it like life?
- 28:19Some opponents are difficult and some opponents are easy.
- 28:24But if you only play easy opponents, you don't get better.
- 28:31And sometimes you need to learn through losing to figure out
- 28:35what to do differently. But the more you play, the more
- 28:41experience you get, and what once was a difficult opponent
- 28:46becomes winnable, beatable. And each time you win,
- 28:51confidence grows even more. And if you feel a willingness to
- 28:59experience rather than avoid, take on the challenge.
- 29:05Let me know about nodding your head.
- 29:09That's it. And just feel that confident,
- 29:12calm, relaxed feeling within you.
- 29:15And then see that staircase there on the football pitch,
- 29:18only this time you're walking up the stairs.
- 29:22So imagine walking up the staircase and when you get to
- 29:25the top, take a deep breath in through your nose and out
- 29:32through your nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 29:36your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 29:38here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 29:44you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 29:50456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 29:55Open your eyes 910. Wide awake.
- 30:00Wide awake. Wide awake.
