- 0:05Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Overland Gurl podcast. I'm your host,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Scott Brady, and I'm here with Jeremy Thornburgh. And Jeremy
- 0:13Speaker 1: is from al U kab He's been a long time friend,
- 0:15Speaker 1: a longtime member of the industry. We're going to talk
- 0:18Speaker 1: not only about South Africa. We're going to talk about
- 0:21Speaker 1: his adventures, talk a little bit about what we're seeing
- 0:24Speaker 1: come out of South Africa, but we're also going to
- 0:26Speaker 1: talk about Jeremy's a journey of health over the last
- 0:29Speaker 1: couple of years. We're all so grateful in the industry
- 0:32Speaker 1: that you're still with us, because I'm sure, I'm sure
- 0:36Speaker 1: every but thank you so much for being on that podcast.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Really cool to be Actually, I've been waiting for moment
- 0:41Speaker 2: to tell the story.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, everybody's got an adventure, and.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Life is an adventure and it's filled with so much uncertainty.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So let's talk a little bit about what you've gone
- 0:51Speaker 1: through over the last couple of years.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Ready we begin, Yeah, I'm straight to it, got little sketchy.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I think so many people have had, you know, worries
- 1:03Speaker 1: about family members, their own health, cancer, other diseases that
- 1:08Speaker 1: can all of a sudden show up in our life.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And you have always been this pollar of health. You're
- 1:13Speaker 1: this strong South African adventurer. And then next thing, tell
- 1:18Speaker 1: us what.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Happened lying on the floor so quick as that the
- 1:20Speaker 2: factory manags is that through life?
- 1:22Speaker 4: So I lost my dad as a young boy, six
- 1:24Speaker 4: years old.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He didn't have cancer, and you don't realize what a
- 1:28Speaker 2: hole like that your life makes.
- 1:30Speaker 4: And then you look back and you're dad yourself.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So it's interesting to carve your past in life without
- 1:35Speaker 2: those pusiness.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I can jump onto this.
- 1:38Speaker 3: But yeah, please, mom and their son.
- 1:42Speaker 2: They protect inwards, they look after the kids inwards.
- 1:47Speaker 4: And your dad he's got to push you out there.
- 1:49Speaker 4: That love's no difference, but the method is a different.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and the son you have to teach him the
- 1:55Speaker 2: hard way and bump your head, cut the finger and
- 1:58Speaker 2: your mom's say put the knife away.
- 1:59Speaker 3: You say, hey, if you shave it that way, it
- 2:01Speaker 3: will work better.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah. So those kind of things you lose argument.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So I was a little derailed as a young kid.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Didn't realize I had a couple of challenges anyway. I
- 2:09Speaker 2: have a bit of intentionally deficit disorder to join the
- 2:11Speaker 2: club and then of course I'm a.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Little bit dyslexic.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Nobody really caught on. I need to discovered that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: My health challenges, actually start analyzing myself.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I just went forward and I'll just like go for it.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It really stop at school, had fun, but it was
- 2:27Speaker 2: usef came out of there feeling like a bit of
- 2:29Speaker 2: a loser.
- 2:30Speaker 4: So I had something to prove.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'm a loser, just like that doesn't work from me
- 2:34Speaker 2: so and everyone thought it was but maybe that's your
- 2:37Speaker 2: own impression. Yeah, sure, So I went at it. I
- 2:40Speaker 2: went at it, started plumbing, went at that hard. It's
- 2:43Speaker 2: a stressful business.
- 2:45Speaker 4: We make a mistake the half floods.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, really good thing when I learned only responsibility. So
- 2:53Speaker 2: when you make a mistake, you don't disappear. You stand up,
- 2:57Speaker 2: you face it and you take an eye.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Yeah. It's always been my kind of mota.
- 3:02Speaker 3: It's everything that we've done behind our brand work.
- 3:05Speaker 2: My partners bring the same where that's how you build
- 3:07Speaker 2: your money, but comes a lot of pressure.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and we got into export.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And wittinkly maybe, but we are European partners. Spart of
- 3:17Speaker 2: the special thing that I built that came off the
- 3:19Speaker 2: roof and so we went straight into the German space
- 3:23Speaker 2: first off, out of blocks, so you need to understand
- 3:26Speaker 2: plumber like structure, none of that.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It was a lesson.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 3: It slapped us in the face so red and you know.
- 3:33Speaker 4: It hit Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Sure, I'm like a creative, crazy person that wants to
- 3:37Speaker 2: build everything and find solution for everything.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Then so we went into that and the pressure came. Yeah,
- 3:43Speaker 4: like I've never experienced on.
- 3:45Speaker 1: The expectations of those customers because Germans are prolific travelers,
- 3:49Speaker 1: travel around the world, and they have really high standards
- 3:52Speaker 1: of finish and product.
- 3:54Speaker 3: They are actually they're actually remarkably good.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, they were remarkably good with us. Our partner in
- 4:01Speaker 2: Europe is not German, and.
- 4:04Speaker 4: He's crazy, he is.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But the beautiful thing about that as he just pushed
- 4:11Speaker 2: us like we've never been pushed.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, yeah, no, just to do it better. So
- 4:16Speaker 4: he actually helped us to get to what we are today.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And he still does shout the screen. But you need that,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you need people to encourage you.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And but the pressure cake like we grew. We didn't
- 4:31Speaker 3: know what we were doing. We hadn't been in that space.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It was easy when we were building really crazy custom stuff.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I developed canopies, and that was going. But the export side,
- 4:41Speaker 2: the systems that are packing all the bolts that my
- 4:44Speaker 2: week ward end curled up in a.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Chair from the brink of tears. Yeah sure, I mean
- 4:49Speaker 4: you don't realize what it's doing. You just you're just
- 4:52Speaker 4: like you fight it.
- 4:54Speaker 3: You're just trying to get your ship together.
- 4:56Speaker 4: That's the nature of being an entrepreneur. You can never
- 4:59Speaker 4: start pushing.
- 5:01Speaker 1: As soon as you do, either your competition passes, you buy,
- 5:04Speaker 1: or you lose that momentum.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And unless you got a bunch of money in the bank,
- 5:08Speaker 4: which none of us do. And I started put Yeah
- 5:11Speaker 4: me too.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I was making nine hundred dollars a month in the
- 5:13Speaker 1: Air Force when I got out of the military. So
- 5:16Speaker 1: it's just like you got to just you got to
- 5:18Speaker 1: put all of yourself into it.
- 5:19Speaker 4: That's all you're good yep. And and it's called responsibility. Yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 4: it's a beast thing. Yeah, taking ownership over everything you do.
- 5:32Speaker 4: So I'm being killed.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Up my ed just a volunteers continuously for like the
- 5:36Speaker 2: last before I went down.
- 5:38Speaker 4: It was like I knew something had to break. I
- 5:41Speaker 4: just knew. Yeah, and we were must we were like
- 5:44Speaker 4: getting going.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You know, I started going we were coming together.
- 5:46Speaker 2: We had we had a lot going on, and I
- 5:50Speaker 2: still remember we had quite an interesting meeting coming by,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and it looked like we might have an avesta popping
- 5:55Speaker 2: in and all that kind of thing that I.
- 5:57Speaker 4: Said to worry work I used to start. I started
- 5:58Speaker 4: getting these.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Really grands, you know, and I could feel one coming.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I said said, look, we let the people coming. Maybe
- 6:06Speaker 3: you could just find them check it.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Then need lunch. I need to go and lie down.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I think I got a migrant coming. So I went
- 6:12Speaker 2: in the office and that's the last thing I'm remembered. Man,
- 6:14Speaker 2: I've put myself down on a little camping mattress in
- 6:17Speaker 2: the office and wake up five days later in the hospital.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Like family standing around the bed. I'm like, what's going on?
- 6:25Speaker 2: You had a seizure?
- 6:26Speaker 4: You blacked up. I'm like, oh wow. And they asked
- 6:30Speaker 4: me question. It's like what's your name right? And all that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Good's yeah, And then they broke the news to me
- 6:38Speaker 2: and they're like, you've got a brain show.
- 6:42Speaker 4: You know, like your last being going in flat box.
- 6:45Speaker 4: You know, you let not look mark.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yourself because you just fight in the babble and then
- 6:49Speaker 3: you suddenly hear like.
- 6:52Speaker 4: What the world jumps in there.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Hard, you know, And so that had me incubated. They'd
- 6:56Speaker 2: come into my office as I was wandering around in
- 6:58Speaker 2: the days and I didn't know what was aren't going on.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So they took me to my gip and my geep
- 7:02Speaker 2: took a look me and said, Elizabeth stretch, take you
- 7:04Speaker 2: mink in some rest.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Then no, they already had a seizure. He put me
- 7:08Speaker 3: in my bed, Thank goodness. My son heard me make.
- 7:11Speaker 2: A noise from the room and I'd bitten through my tongue,
- 7:16Speaker 2: like right through.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Wow. My eyes were running back and I was just
- 7:19Speaker 4: like yeah, out seizing. Yeah. So then they my wife
- 7:24Speaker 4: and I was heavy there.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I was hundred and twelve kilos and a little bit
- 7:27Speaker 2: on the heavy side.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Life was likely just eating in each crap you can
- 7:30Speaker 4: to keep yourself going. And so I wasn't in a
- 7:33Speaker 4: good place and they had to.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Can't get me down the passage and into a car,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and I couldn't give me into They got me into
- 7:38Speaker 2: the car.
- 7:39Speaker 4: My wife's car was in for affair.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So they got me in the car in the back
- 7:41Speaker 3: seat and I was too long and.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I was fighting.
- 7:44Speaker 3: So they found in the hospital and this little can in
- 7:47Speaker 3: South Africa.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Man keep anyway, So the security guard the security company
- 7:51Speaker 2: got the faster and they got me back into the
- 7:52Speaker 2: car in the front seat, and then they rushed me
- 7:54Speaker 2: down to the hospital. I got to the hospital and
- 7:56Speaker 2: I was thrashing, and they put me on one of
- 7:58Speaker 2: those gurneys and I was fighting.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I had to order use off the ground.
- 8:03Speaker 4: You didn't remember it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: And then eventually they managed to pin me down and
- 8:05Speaker 2: stick a pipe on my throat, cutting me down.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And every time they try to bring.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Me out there to start going mad again. So so
- 8:13Speaker 2: then so then they said, okay, leave them there. Then said, well,
- 8:16Speaker 2: let if I understand what's going on. Could I think
- 8:18Speaker 2: they slipped me into a cat's can. They could just
- 8:20Speaker 2: see there was something not cool, lot.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Of pressure in the brain, and yeah, I woke.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Up to hear that this was the use and I
- 8:28Speaker 2: started getting pneumonia like you do there with bugs in
- 8:30Speaker 2: the hospital. So too long out the pipe's on your throat,
- 8:34Speaker 2: so that's it not And my wife was a medical
- 8:36Speaker 2: rep and she knew a lot of doctors, not any
- 8:38Speaker 2: usual just they said, just.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Get him out of the hospital. Whatever you do, get
- 8:41Speaker 4: him out.
- 8:41Speaker 2: You know, snow, God the bugs are around, and so
- 8:45Speaker 2: they brought me out and told me the news.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm in the day, it's like. And then
- 8:50Speaker 3: they said, look, we're going home tonight.
- 8:52Speaker 4: We'll come and see you in the morning.
- 8:53Speaker 3: When I left me there for the night and I lay,
- 8:54Speaker 3: They're like trying to work this thing up.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I didn't know what was going on.
- 8:58Speaker 3: They had curtains around my bed and I got like
- 9:00Speaker 3: these fleets and them.
- 9:01Speaker 4: I thought I was in a slab of cheese or something.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I just didn't know.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Where I was and I was still trying to find
- 9:05Speaker 2: myself anyway, and then we went.
- 9:07Speaker 3: The journey began, you know, the journey began, and.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I don't meant it was a little bit scary, but
- 9:12Speaker 2: I was in the days and I fought everything in
- 9:13Speaker 2: my life. When it's afought everything, it's like, like, how
- 9:16Speaker 2: do we fix you know what we where?
- 9:19Speaker 4: It's from here. So we went in through the MRIs
- 9:21Speaker 4: and I South African's make a plan.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I dessiccated my shoulder and the battle
- 9:25Speaker 2: so I was in agony and they put me in
- 9:26Speaker 2: a forty five minute MRI machine that never men with
- 9:30Speaker 2: your face came dead stall and.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I lay in there for forty five minutes. I like,
- 9:35Speaker 3: I'm in this tube. I'm half out of it.
- 9:37Speaker 2: And I came out of there and they said, this
- 9:40Speaker 2: is a It's a glio, not a gly blast gear
- 9:44Speaker 2: of blast omer, which is the most aggressive brain you
- 9:47Speaker 2: can get. It's a slow brewer. But this challenge crosses
- 9:51Speaker 2: the center line of the brain, the tendrils running through
- 9:54Speaker 2: the brain and your eyes eye cords running through it,
- 9:56Speaker 2: and it sits straight up against your language center. It's
- 10:00Speaker 2: one of the most complicated surgeries that you can go through. Like, okay,
- 10:06Speaker 2: how long have I got, you know? So we went
- 10:08Speaker 2: to see the on Colleges first and she said, look,
- 10:10Speaker 2: I can give you with radiation maybe ten twelve years
- 10:16Speaker 2: without radiation, maybe eight.
- 10:19Speaker 5: Oh.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I seem to think it was a different conversation, but
- 10:22Speaker 2: my brain only had two things long, one short one.
- 10:25Speaker 4: That's all I honed in on. And there we took
- 10:29Speaker 4: him and we looked at We spoke to.
- 10:30Speaker 2: All the different specialists in the pros and they said, look, head's.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Got to come off. We use electrodes and we're going
- 10:37Speaker 4: to try and cut this thing out.
- 10:39Speaker 2: We're terrified about the language center because you'll won't be
- 10:42Speaker 2: able to speak, and and and so so I said, okay, okay, okay,
- 10:50Speaker 2: I like to slow down, like let me just let
- 10:52Speaker 2: me just like process this. So we went to see
- 10:55Speaker 2: some specialists, and one of the guys there, thank goodness,
- 10:59Speaker 2: he said, I'm a faithless I don't even know what
- 11:01Speaker 2: he meant, but he said, I wouldn't do anything.
- 11:05Speaker 4: I'd wait and see. We don't even know what sort
- 11:08Speaker 4: of cancer it is. I'd wait and see. Says how
- 11:11Speaker 4: I'm gonna take that. I need to take better story
- 11:13Speaker 4: for now?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Yeah, like the first thing, you think, I got two
- 11:16Speaker 3: beautiful kids. I grew up with the other dad.
- 11:20Speaker 4: And I was like, I cannot do that. I've got
- 11:22Speaker 4: to be there as much as I can.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And if you're going to then I'd rather just take
- 11:25Speaker 2: it on freestyle pictures.
- 11:27Speaker 4: If I'm going to be present, I want to be present.
- 11:31Speaker 4: So it uh, it was. It was a journey, and
- 11:36Speaker 4: it's been a continuous journey and still the journey, but.
- 11:40Speaker 3: In its own weird, strange way.
- 11:43Speaker 4: It was the best thing that happened.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Because what makes you say that, How did that change
- 11:48Speaker 1: your perspective on it?
- 11:49Speaker 2: You become present?
- 11:52Speaker 3: We said it about this a while back, about being present.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I heard a brilliant thing the other day, the guys
- 11:58Speaker 2: thinking about an old man, and he said, there's yesterday,
- 12:03Speaker 2: which is gone.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I look at that as a lesson. There's now,
- 12:10Speaker 4: which is present.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I look at that it's beautiful, and then there's tomorrow,
- 12:16Speaker 2: which we don't know what it is.
- 12:18Speaker 4: So I look at that as an adventure.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 4: So I like that.
- 12:21Speaker 3: So you've got lessons, you got beauty.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And you've got adventure. Yeah. Sure. And that's why how
- 12:27Speaker 4: we need to live.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And every moment that you spend and you meet somebody
- 12:32Speaker 2: and you connect with somebody, I like to make a mark.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Sure, to leave a mark, Yeah sure, I need to.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I like to embrace.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I need to touch your hearts and see if.
- 12:43Speaker 4: They can touch money. Yeah. And it's been that. It's
- 12:47Speaker 4: been beautiful.
- 12:48Speaker 3: There's nothing more special.
- 12:50Speaker 4: And you've been able to, like at least your daughters.
- 12:53Speaker 1: M's more involved with the business now, so you've been
- 12:55Speaker 1: able to travel with her more now and lessen.
- 12:58Speaker 2: It's like the coupler's shoe what I always say, like
- 13:00Speaker 2: it's always broken. Yeah, everyone thinks I'm this massive adventure.
- 13:05Speaker 2: If only I lived through your dreams. I love through
- 13:08Speaker 2: the exo, you.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Know what I mean.
- 13:10Speaker 3: I get the short privileges every now and again.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I love the wilderness. Yeah, I love the wilderness. But
- 13:18Speaker 2: you can find it anywhere. Yeah, you don't have to
- 13:20Speaker 2: go too far. You can get it in the bottom
- 13:23Speaker 2: in your garden if you want to.
- 13:24Speaker 1: You know that place that we went and had pizzas
- 13:26Speaker 1: overlook at the Southern Ocean.
- 13:27Speaker 4: And that's a busy space. It was a very busiess
- 13:30Speaker 4: but it was beautiful, dude. It was beautiful.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Like you're black out the rest yep, you turn the
- 13:35Speaker 2: phone off, ye, and your present built piece of heaven.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a piece of heaven for sure, in.
- 13:41Speaker 3: Every corner if you look through it.
- 13:44Speaker 4: And that's what I always say. We always think we
- 13:46Speaker 4: have to.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Head out and go a long long way to find that.
- 13:49Speaker 2: You can find it in your backyard if you clear
- 13:52Speaker 2: just about being there.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah, we were, you know, thirty minutes from your office
- 13:57Speaker 1: looking at out on the Southern Ocean.
- 13:59Speaker 4: It was just beautiful.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I have to say, I live in the most beautiful
- 14:02Speaker 2: city in the world, there's no question.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Traveling and they're not many that come close, I would agree.
- 14:08Speaker 4: In fact, it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: You know, many times in the last couple of decades,
- 14:11Speaker 1: Cape Down has been rated as one of the most
- 14:13Speaker 1: beautiful cities in the world, and every time I go there,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I am shocked with how incredible it is. I mean,
- 14:20Speaker 1: the thing is the South Africa in general, and every
- 14:23Speaker 1: country has its challenges, no question, even even the United States.
- 14:27Speaker 1: But if you're going to live anywhere in the world,
- 14:29Speaker 1: to be able to live in a place that looks
- 14:32Speaker 1: like that, with the history that that has, the wildlife
- 14:35Speaker 1: that you have, the roads that you have, incredible, the
- 14:40Speaker 1: quality of life.
- 14:41Speaker 4: I mean, it's it is exactly that. Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: So, so money's not a thing for me, obviously we
- 14:48Speaker 2: need it. Yeah, but that's why this whole prisonce.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Thing for me is a weird thing.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's it's actually not about it definitely not
- 14:56Speaker 2: about the many works quite spartally important because our.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Business now serves so many.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Yeah sure, yeah and everywhere else.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So it is a huge, huge responsibility. Six hundred plus.
- 15:11Speaker 4: People, Okay, a lot of families count on you guys.
- 15:15Speaker 2: And I mean you have no idea how much material
- 15:17Speaker 2: it moves through our business in order to be able
- 15:19Speaker 2: to deliver products around the world and in order for
- 15:22Speaker 2: that to be achieved, you have to take the serious.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I cannot imagine the amount of aluminum
- 15:28Speaker 1: you guys move there.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I don't like to talk about it, but at least
- 15:31Speaker 2: it's a recyclabable commodity, you know what I mean.
- 15:34Speaker 4: It's like.
- 15:36Speaker 2: We like we such a big consumers the world, and
- 15:39Speaker 2: then it's a big back there for me, and how.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Do I find a balance.
- 15:42Speaker 4: That's why I'm always trying.
- 15:43Speaker 3: To see if I can help or give or share
- 15:45Speaker 3: my life.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Treats me for it, like you can't afford to you that.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't care. It's like this is important,
- 15:51Speaker 3: you know. That's always been part of my journey. So
- 15:53Speaker 3: like from the first moment I had a voice.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I was trying to help Rhanos And so it's it's
- 15:57Speaker 2: just if I don't get back, can't take. Yeah, we're
- 16:01Speaker 2: taking all the time, and like nature nurture love it
- 16:08Speaker 2: like that's where those our roots.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Man, you know, and we we've so lost.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Our way and we see in your country has so
- 16:16Speaker 1: much to offer the world. I mean, every every time
- 16:19Speaker 1: that I go to Southern Africa, it changes me in
- 16:23Speaker 1: some way.
- 16:23Speaker 4: It's just unbelievable. Where you live.
- 16:26Speaker 3: It is, you know, sadly for me, we don't take
- 16:30Speaker 3: it seriously enough.
- 16:31Speaker 2: We don't.
- 16:31Speaker 4: We're not grateful enough. You know, humans really aren't. You know,
- 16:35Speaker 4: it's so much that's true, that's true. You normalized whatever
- 16:40Speaker 4: is going on.
- 16:42Speaker 1: You always think it could be better, when sometimes you
- 16:44Speaker 1: forget to look around and see how well where I live.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Up the mountain I had.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I mean, I'm right down near the bottom of Cape Town,
- 16:52Speaker 2: like Cape Point up the hill.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I mean, I look over the bay.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I can settle up patio super bit. I put my
- 17:00Speaker 2: feet up, I look at the view. I just breathe
- 17:02Speaker 2: the air, and I'm like, man, lucky to be live,
- 17:05Speaker 2: you know, incredible, and it's beautiful and brading me and
- 17:08Speaker 2: everyone's to kill them, and I'm like, no, man, leave
- 17:11Speaker 2: him alone.
- 17:11Speaker 4: We've taken over their space.
- 17:13Speaker 2: We burnt half of our mountains with crazy stuff.
- 17:16Speaker 4: And they've got nothing to eat. And see knocking on
- 17:18Speaker 4: my door.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I had a break in just before with a baboon.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Yeah. I had three eggs everywhere.
- 17:23Speaker 2: And I got home from a trip away and I'm like,
- 17:25Speaker 2: oh no, man, my.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Alarm had gone off, but somebody had forgotten to double.
- 17:30Speaker 4: That's the door, and I pushed them in.
- 17:31Speaker 2: And when I got a few days later, I was
- 17:33Speaker 2: they wanted to come back for lunch again, and I
- 17:35Speaker 2: could caught him slamming on the door with my rent
- 17:37Speaker 2: and then I said, get away, like I open the door.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And then for women, it's challenging because they don't listen
- 17:44Speaker 3: to the woman.
- 17:44Speaker 4: They're not scared of them.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But if a man comes on, it's bark like a
- 17:47Speaker 2: baboon and that kind of thing, and then they go
- 17:49Speaker 2: like over the ball, big animals.
- 17:53Speaker 3: But you know, the thing is that I'm so accustomed
- 17:55Speaker 3: to him.
- 17:56Speaker 4: It's it's it's animal kingdom.
- 17:57Speaker 3: It's very much like chauffear.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Come at you, yeah, telling me the bus.
- 18:02Speaker 2: They're not questioning themselves, given a little hesitation, and then
- 18:06Speaker 2: you go after you know what I mean, And they
- 18:08Speaker 2: know that.
- 18:08Speaker 4: You know they're on the back foot.
- 18:10Speaker 3: When he stands his ground, he comes at him in
- 18:11Speaker 3: the game.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Then I grab a chair. You see big, their.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Teeth unbelievably strong. I've seen them diving off a cliff.
- 18:22Speaker 2: So I'm lying in the wilderness and I see the
- 18:24Speaker 2: bons right up on the cliff, like hundreds of feet
- 18:26Speaker 2: up and they look chaking it out, and the next
- 18:29Speaker 2: minute I'll see you guys launch your fort cliff heads,
- 18:33Speaker 2: dives down, grips a little ledge and swings around and
- 18:36Speaker 2: then scurries across the way.
- 18:39Speaker 4: Wow.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, trying to fingers and all that all day.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I mean, you know what I mean, serious stuff, but
- 18:46Speaker 4: it's beautiful. Yeah. Yeah, So here we are, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 4: so how do you how do you feel?
- 18:52Speaker 1: I think this is such an important lesson for people
- 18:54Speaker 1: because I've known you for so long now, like when
- 18:57Speaker 1: I remember when I met you.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Yes, please, we went Vegas. It's it come out of
- 19:02Speaker 4: Vegas and let's.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Chat the mill because I've been having communications with them
- 19:05Speaker 2: and I've seen you. Yeah a little bit of a
- 19:07Speaker 2: rick yeh, dirty the ditty dirty bugger man.
- 19:13Speaker 3: I walked out and the bunch and said, hey, you's
- 19:14Speaker 3: got Brady on manicam.
- 19:15Speaker 4: We've been doing these things.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you guys and I sen here and we got
- 19:20Speaker 2: chatting about adventure biking. Yes, len so a few things
- 19:23Speaker 2: to show like steel blades, yeah, color bond dessicationis yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 2: holes innes So we're talking milanguage and that sort of
- 19:32Speaker 2: and then where we're first petted.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Absolutely, I do remember that we're talking about Katms.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and you're a BMW fat I.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Am now, yeah, I sorted off on a KTM and
- 19:41Speaker 1: I still love him.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Exactly. But well, I mean, that's another.

- 21:24Speaker 1: looking at depth store, looking at an uncertained future, how
- 21:28Speaker 1: do you find that that changed you professionally? And then
- 21:31Speaker 1: what what were some of the things that you can
- 21:32Speaker 1: change personally? I mean, you look a lot healthier, your leaner,
- 21:36Speaker 1: how like.
- 21:37Speaker 2: You've picked up a few kids because I've been really
- 21:39Speaker 2: deep in the work again.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yeah, and that kind of travel.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Is easy to este to your routines, and so have
- 21:45Speaker 1: you been exercising what.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I live right at every morning?
- 21:51Speaker 2: Brian Shawan, I was in there, okay, good Hey, my
- 21:54Speaker 2: board is man okay, and a few air flights and
- 21:57Speaker 2: my ear started to grow close from the cold water.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Oh sure, could never get the water out of kind
- 22:01Speaker 2: of thing.
- 22:02Speaker 4: But I swam every day. But when I was in
- 22:04Speaker 4: my really those places, I was just swimming. It's like
- 22:07Speaker 4: my meditation.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, kilometer in the sea back ten degrees too and
- 22:13Speaker 2: that's cold.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Was shivering and trying to get my way back. But
- 22:20Speaker 4: it saved my.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Life that and then I chose my path, like I
- 22:24Speaker 2: went all the naturalist routes, and it's such a it's
- 22:29Speaker 2: such a challenging journey because.
- 22:33Speaker 4: It's your journey.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Like people come to me and say, like, I've got cancer,
- 22:38Speaker 2: whatever I do, I never quite know how to answer,
- 22:43Speaker 2: because I tried everything.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I've always wanted to try and keep
- 22:47Speaker 4: it the natural route, find other ways.
- 22:51Speaker 2: The Internet is a really interesting thing, but it's very
- 22:54Speaker 2: confusing because you'll be listening to somebody who's telling you
- 22:56Speaker 2: this is the best way to go, and two days
- 22:59Speaker 2: later other one.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Will flash up and the fact.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Do not do this, you do it now?
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 23:06Speaker 3: Yeah, So I mean.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I would I would suspect that that that specter of
- 23:10Speaker 1: that surgery was terrifying, you know, to get in there
- 23:14Speaker 1: and try to.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you think about it, the guy,
- 23:17Speaker 2: the specialist was about seventy seven years old, and he
- 23:21Speaker 2: was everybody said, that's the guy.
- 23:23Speaker 3: They take the top of the head off, they got
- 23:25Speaker 3: electrodes and they say, okay, we're going to cut this piece.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Let's see what happened when we ask you a question
- 23:30Speaker 2: and they shock it and they said, Jeremy, watch your name.
- 23:33Speaker 3: And they get and if you can't answer them, then
- 23:35Speaker 3: I will.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Okay, may maybe maybe we don't touch that.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, so so so I chose no, yeah, and see
- 23:43Speaker 2: what happened and that kind of thing.
- 23:45Speaker 4: And I got some good years out of it.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Like early part, I didn't change last Nutch.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Yeah, everything was okay.
- 23:52Speaker 2: We'd check it out every now and again, and I
- 23:54Speaker 2: sort of got I was very disciplined. And then I
- 23:56Speaker 2: got a little nor year and then and then one
- 23:59Speaker 2: day I fell off them up back and burrows my head.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And but what had happened was that I.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Knew I was deteriorating.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I had to do this little test here to see
- 24:08Speaker 2: if I could see my fingers.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Ah sure, and I kind of my wife would give
- 24:13Speaker 4: me shit.
- 24:14Speaker 2: She passed me something in the car and I didn't
- 24:16Speaker 2: take it, and then she'd say in like I did
- 24:21Speaker 2: to you, because your your brain is an incredible thing.
- 24:24Speaker 2: There's so many things I learned about the brain that
- 24:26Speaker 2: I didn't know prior to that, that what it's doing
- 24:28Speaker 2: any given time, Like there was a brain movement. Oh,
- 24:31Speaker 2: you saw a little little thing out the corner of
- 24:33Speaker 2: your eye. Your brain immediately wanted to check in on that.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, sure, And the person.
- 24:37Speaker 2: We interpreting insulation at every and any given time that
- 24:43Speaker 2: we are.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Completely unaware of.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Sure, we've lived through it.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Okay, I lost left side peripheral from the middle of
- 24:50Speaker 2: the eye.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Here was black. When you did the eye test, there
- 24:52Speaker 4: was nothing, no vision. But I didn't really know.
- 24:56Speaker 3: I mean, they knew that I was it was going
- 24:58Speaker 3: because I couldn't see this. But the brain immediately starts
- 25:01Speaker 3: to adapt the perupheral.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Here starts to pick that up. But there's a black spot.
- 25:06Speaker 4: There's a spot that you don't see. And I was
- 25:09Speaker 4: pushing the limits of it, like I'm.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Still riding my vest but to work. And then I wonder,
- 25:12Speaker 2: I just took a taxi my farm.
- 25:15Speaker 4: I'm like, but I didn't see that, you know, So
- 25:19Speaker 4: I went back to the wife.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I see, I know if I'm going to take the
- 25:22Speaker 2: vest bad, you know, yeah, and and and.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Then and yeah.
- 25:26Speaker 3: So it just like it went on from there and
- 25:28Speaker 3: it got worse.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Bounced my head.
- 25:30Speaker 3: The one day I went in for my MRI.
- 25:32Speaker 4: They said, this thing's been quiet for now, but now
- 25:34Speaker 4: it's getting agro. Yeah, I could feel you gave me
- 25:38Speaker 4: a hard time. I'd have a seizure.
- 25:41Speaker 3: It's a mini me Grand seizure.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Pumping drugs to keep the seesars down, so that epilem
- 25:46Speaker 2: which keeps the caesars away, and that type of thing.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But if I got too stressed, if anything got me
- 25:50Speaker 2: too excited, I get this funny taste. Then I get
- 25:54Speaker 2: this euphouric few like a day's areathing. And there was
- 25:58Speaker 2: a picture that was taken by my brain on. Something
- 26:01Speaker 2: on the left would start. I'd stopped.
- 26:03Speaker 3: My wife would always know it's coming.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I'd start looking up to the left because I'd see
- 26:06Speaker 2: this flashing coming through on the left.
- 26:09Speaker 4: And that came on more and more, and then they said, whoa,
- 26:12Speaker 4: hang on, it's growing early days. I've gone to a naturalist.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Spoke different language, quite a hippie, but yeah, also doctor
- 26:20Speaker 2: qualified but he had gone into the natural roots, and
- 26:23Speaker 2: I went back to him and he was a crazy guy.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Was stuck to them.
- 26:30Speaker 2: With medical is that you put anything you've got, everything
- 26:33Speaker 2: we got into it, like keep a little bit to
- 26:35Speaker 2: keep the family fed, and trying to fix you.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, you're trying to survive. Yeah, and you're at their mercy. Yeah,
- 26:42Speaker 4: you're at their mercy.
- 26:43Speaker 3: They hey, Jeremy Rick, can take an example of your cancer.
- 26:46Speaker 4: We'll send it over seas.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Give me another hundred thousand, Yeah, give me another hundred thousand.
- 26:51Speaker 4: There hours of our writing checks.
- 26:53Speaker 3: So my wife's trying to keep me from writing too many, you.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Know, and.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Half the time you don't know if you've been taken
- 26:59Speaker 3: or no.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And like I sent you examples, got all the feedback,
- 27:03Speaker 2: paid the money, and never got they were going to
- 27:05Speaker 2: make a serum. And so it went on and it
- 27:07Speaker 2: got the pressure started coming. You've got to getting worse
- 27:10Speaker 2: and worse. And then when into but there were intermixed
- 27:14Speaker 2: you're like standard practice along with health and then meditation
- 27:20Speaker 2: and just positive thinking and swimming and diet.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Like diet is like one of the number ones.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, dump anything that converts to sugar, any of that
- 27:30Speaker 2: almost twenty five.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Kilograms, but not like I'm sick twenty five.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I was lean, I was strong, I was fit, but
- 27:39Speaker 3: it was.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And a minute and then I said, Okay, now it's
- 27:42Speaker 2: causing too much pressure.
- 27:44Speaker 4: We're gonna have to go to radiation.
- 27:47Speaker 2: And I made a really nice oncologist and so through
- 27:50Speaker 2: my naturalist, it put me into an oncologist.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And you're kind of at the mercy.
- 27:57Speaker 4: No, I'm going to make some proper decisions. I said,
- 27:59Speaker 4: I let's go. Let's do it to my time. Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Sure, Like the most terroristifying thing for me is the kids.
- 28:05Speaker 2: If I talked to that, to you about that too much,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I'm going to cry.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Of course, because they like my world. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 4: of course, your daughter's incredible, like they're both all of them.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And my wife. You know, it's like I'm responsible to that.
- 28:19Speaker 2: You know, You're just it's not all about you, and
- 28:21Speaker 2: I'm responsible to my team. I'm responsible to everybody.
- 28:25Speaker 4: And so so I thought, no, I got to do it.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I've got to give it a go.
- 28:29Speaker 3: So they put me on radiation. They've mold the mask
- 28:31Speaker 3: to your face.
- 28:32Speaker 2: You locked you down one hundred percent because they're going
- 28:33Speaker 2: to put a laser in your brain. They're going to
- 28:35Speaker 2: fry your brain, okay, and they can't make mistakes, so
- 28:39Speaker 2: your little holes in the mask still got it strapped.
- 28:42Speaker 2: That locks you into place. But it's like a five
- 28:44Speaker 2: minute session.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I come in every day.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I came in there and not being able to see somebody,
- 28:49Speaker 3: you have to drop me off.
- 28:50Speaker 4: By the time I finished.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Connor from this three weeks, four weeks, I was driving home.
- 28:55Speaker 4: Wow, I could see it. Wow, it was brilliant. So
- 28:59Speaker 4: it's shrinking the two they're frunk. They actually they just
- 29:02Speaker 4: kill it.
- 29:03Speaker 3: They stopped it from grow because it's creating pressure.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 2: And when they fried that, they've done a biopsy, taken
- 29:10Speaker 2: a drilled a lole in the brain, drop a needle
- 29:12Speaker 2: in which they always like nobody's quite sure whether it's
- 29:14Speaker 2: a good idea to disrupt the cells because they're like,
- 29:17Speaker 2: I was trying to get in here.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Let's fight back. But you only learn a lot of
- 29:21Speaker 4: this after you've done it.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Yea. And when they did that biopsy, Wow, the brain
- 29:25Speaker 2: pressure like I've never had.
- 29:26Speaker 4: Oh, wow, like I was and they told me I
- 29:29Speaker 4: can't do anything, like I can't walk and you can't
- 29:31Speaker 4: put me in my chair. So I got on my bicycle.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I wanted to get a hit of coffee on the
- 29:36Speaker 3: road and I saw this pole up ahead and I'm like,
- 29:40Speaker 3: I got it there.
- 29:42Speaker 4: What happened? I rode strangers the pole.
- 29:45Speaker 3: The pressure was so that was like a properly blindness.
- 29:48Speaker 4: And quietly tangled home. Yeah, torm jeans. Yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 2: And I told the domestic helper that comes in once
- 29:58Speaker 2: a week.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't until turn tell then sure. I hit
- 30:02Speaker 4: the ball. Yeah what riding a basket on the go?
- 30:06Speaker 4: I do it again.
- 30:07Speaker 2: And I mean I remember getting one of the most
- 30:11Speaker 2: brains splitting migraines.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Everyone. It's like a woman just came. I just couldn't
- 30:16Speaker 4: take the pack.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I'm just like, uh agon the pressure on the brain
- 30:21Speaker 2: with next level let's I was vomiting and they raced
- 30:25Speaker 2: me off to the hospital. They put me in a
- 30:26Speaker 2: cat scan machine that they tried to get everything out
- 30:29Speaker 2: of me as quick as we can, and I just
- 30:32Speaker 2: dumped me with morphine and I laid there for a
- 30:34Speaker 2: few days to trying to get back.
- 30:35Speaker 4: From that, trying to survive. That was.
- 30:37Speaker 2: That was horrible, Like the migrains are bad, but that
- 30:41Speaker 2: was like I thought, if this is what a brain
- 30:44Speaker 2: tumor means.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Please just give me a gun. Sure, sure, sure, but
- 30:51Speaker 4: the radiation worked.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it worked brilliant, and that that's where you're at
- 30:57Speaker 1: right now.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So then then bend it was chema. So we're gonna
- 31:00Speaker 2: get you this now. And and I took a capsule.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Tim of Zelda mine.
- 31:06Speaker 3: It's some lower does It's not like they sit here
- 31:09Speaker 3: on a machine.
- 31:09Speaker 4: You just live on it. I lived on it for
- 31:12Speaker 4: two three years. It didn't really bug me. I like
- 31:15Speaker 4: I would full swim. I would drop off.
- 31:18Speaker 3: You go like week sessions and you have a week
- 31:20Speaker 3: orphan in your back, and then it's I can't remember
- 31:22Speaker 3: the day, it's don don't know how.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Many, but it's it. My appetite dropped a bit more.
- 31:31Speaker 4: But I bought you it no problem, and and it stopped,
- 31:35Speaker 4: it stopped.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Growing incredible and so but he said, this is fantastic.
- 31:42Speaker 3: We didn't think we'd be able to pull this in
- 31:44Speaker 3: like this. So I don't know what you're doing.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Keep it up, you know.
- 31:48Speaker 2: And I'm like a like half full glass half empty.
- 31:52Speaker 3: So I go in there and tease them and bullshit them,
- 31:54Speaker 3: and so we do. I like, these guys, this is
- 31:56Speaker 3: your lifeline.
- 31:57Speaker 4: These people are important to you. You're trying to hang
- 32:00Speaker 4: on them. Yeah, and so, and I.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Always try and like I always trying to put my
- 32:06Speaker 2: best foot for it made people laugh, and don't. I
- 32:09Speaker 2: don't like sympathy, you know, I really don't enjoy it then,
- 32:12Speaker 2: and so, so I try to be positive. And I
- 32:15Speaker 2: suppose that helps.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I believe it does. Cancer is a mental game.
- 32:20Speaker 2: There are ways to beat it, but you just got
- 32:23Speaker 2: to You just got to stay.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I have been in for so many other ships. My
- 32:29Speaker 3: wife and I crying in the doctor's chair and.
- 32:31Speaker 4: He's what a ship job for him?
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah, So I try to make him feel better, like
- 32:38Speaker 2: sometimes you just can't help you.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Though a part of it. And then you're going to
- 32:41Speaker 4: just like, Okay, I got this. We'll try again. We'll
- 32:43Speaker 4: try this, we'll try that.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Eventually, was doing so well that about six or sixty
- 32:48Speaker 2: eight months ago, it's to me, Jermy, we're gonna make
- 32:51Speaker 2: some choices.
- 32:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you cannot live on the drug.
- 32:53Speaker 3: It's going to give you a different topic of tank cancer.
- 32:56Speaker 3: He said it's low risk. But and I said, okay, dog,
- 33:01Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I went away. We were sailing in the.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Mid put the pools away said, no, Caesar polls not.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I mean I was. I'd gone through a lot of
- 33:13Speaker 2: stuff which you can fill in between. But but but
- 33:16Speaker 2: I dumped everything, and I had an MRI scanned actually
- 33:20Speaker 2: doc appointment first always checked the bloods and then jumped
- 33:23Speaker 2: to me and we chatterbit and I had one planned
- 33:26Speaker 2: and he wanted to book an MRI, and and so
- 33:29Speaker 2: I came in and and he said, so, how was
- 33:32Speaker 2: the most station of chema. He's still okay? I said, no,
- 33:35Speaker 2: dark has stopped.
- 33:36Speaker 3: I said, I'll stopped everything, anti seizure everything. You can
- 33:40Speaker 3: stay with your drugs, but I'm gonna look at your
- 33:42Speaker 3: brain every three months.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I said, let's do it. Yeah, And that's what
- 33:46Speaker 4: I'm in, Dore, how's it going great? Wow?
- 33:48Speaker 3: So you said it's nothing's happened wow.
- 33:52Speaker 4: And Jeremy, that's incredible. No, it's brilliant. It's brilliant.
- 33:54Speaker 2: So actually what's happened, though, is that the radiation was
- 33:59Speaker 2: a different exp So, I.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Mean, I lie in this chair and that little laser
- 34:03Speaker 4: le pons really see. But it's a little dark.
- 34:05Speaker 2: You can hear this noise and you almost taste burning
- 34:07Speaker 2: in your mouth, and a weird smell but that nothing's
- 34:10Speaker 2: coming out. It's all happening, maybe psychologically, but it's happened.
- 34:15Speaker 3: You could taste in the back of.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Your throat, And so I came out and thinking, Okay,
- 34:20Speaker 2: I can see you again.
- 34:21Speaker 3: This is cool, like, hey, there's my hand.
- 34:24Speaker 4: You know, this is really cool.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I hadn't seen that for a long time.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I mean, my wife and I'd be walking and she'd
- 34:29Speaker 2: do and left done, blake, keep walking like where a yeah.
- 34:33Speaker 4: But little did I know.
- 34:35Speaker 3: I didn't know what the job of the brain was
- 34:37Speaker 3: actually doing, you know.
- 34:37Speaker 2: So I walked out there, I could see you, and
- 34:39Speaker 2: I could think better, but not think that much better.
- 34:41Speaker 4: And I couldn't hold any information.
- 34:43Speaker 2: And but but I could not do what you're doing
- 34:49Speaker 2: all the time. And that person coming into the room,
- 34:52Speaker 2: I didn't know. I just couldn't process that. My brain
- 34:55Speaker 2: focused and completely what I'm seeing because they're cooked. I'm
- 35:00Speaker 2: on the rest, and so I was lacking and the
- 35:03Speaker 2: stuff that was normally doing that job was god, you know.
- 35:06Speaker 4: So I had to come back from you. So I
- 35:11Speaker 4: was driving. But when you're driving.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Scott, you don't know what your brain's looking at and
- 35:16Speaker 2: interpreting and then anticipating and all that kind of thing.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Like back here at home, we have people that begar
- 35:21Speaker 3: the lights, we.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Have people that sell papers.
- 35:23Speaker 3: We've got things going on, people cutting your lanes.
- 35:26Speaker 2: City can be busy, and your brain's going, that's there,
- 35:29Speaker 2: that's going to happen in there.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I could only see here, man, I can only see
- 35:33Speaker 3: it if you're talking.
- 35:33Speaker 4: From the back. I like, no, don't talk to me.
- 35:37Speaker 4: You know.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I stopped listening to music and I could only focus
- 35:42Speaker 3: from that.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And I was talking to a psychologist and her friend
- 35:48Speaker 2: and she said, how do you feel about psychedelics.
- 35:51Speaker 3: I'm like, man, I'll do anything to get high right now.
- 35:54Speaker 1: No.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Not. It was quite a traumatic thing, you know, so
- 35:57Speaker 2: they don't like a hero that it's on me.
- 36:01Speaker 1: There's been so much development in that area though, Like
- 36:04Speaker 1: it's making a huge difference veterans everybody, anybody tells, ask me.
- 36:09Speaker 4: What saved my life? Because it helps you to create
- 36:14Speaker 4: new neural pathways. Okay, okay, most new neural pathways.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Are like I heard the best description of psychedelics, and
- 36:25Speaker 6: that is that if you live in the mountain and
- 36:28Speaker 6: you go down to the trading post every day on
- 36:30Speaker 6: your skis and you take that path Eventually you can
- 36:34Speaker 6: just like push off from the paths all there, and
- 36:36Speaker 6: then you have to lead into it.
- 36:37Speaker 3: The skis is second, driving in the dirt and the
- 36:39Speaker 3: tracks of it.
- 36:40Speaker 4: It's difficult to get out of the tracks.
- 36:43Speaker 2: And a psychedelic journey is like a big snowfall. We
- 36:49Speaker 2: got to cut a new line, We got to create
- 36:52Speaker 2: those pathways.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what it does to your brain. Amazing, locks
- 36:55Speaker 4: in on a new space. Ego goes a little lay line.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Yeah, you connect to the dirt there, you at the
- 37:04Speaker 5: stat and how every little bag, every little bird, every
- 37:09Speaker 5: little leaf is one thing interconnected by energy and.
- 37:16Speaker 4: The most beautiful I have a god. It's a mother Earth.
- 37:22Speaker 4: That's like, that's my God.
- 37:23Speaker 1: And that's easy to come to terms with in Africa
- 37:27Speaker 1: because you feel it.
- 37:28Speaker 4: You feel everywhere.
- 37:30Speaker 2: I mean, it's a little muffled over by concrete and
- 37:32Speaker 2: tar buildings, but minds that that little tree out.
- 37:37Speaker 4: There is a life and that's what much friends. Good.
- 37:44Speaker 4: I'm so glad that is object.
- 37:46Speaker 6: I really wish Trump now that it's given the law
- 37:49Speaker 6: that we can use it.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Take a little yourself, buddy, dump the ego of it,
- 37:53Speaker 3: you know.
- 37:53Speaker 4: What I mean?
- 37:54Speaker 3: Because we think so My path now is about learning, teaching.
- 38:00Speaker 4: And love it. Yeah it is, Isn't it incredible?
- 38:03Speaker 2: Though?
- 38:03Speaker 1: That like, and I've spoken to many friends of mine
- 38:07Speaker 1: that have been through a similar experience that you have,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and they all come out of it with a totally
- 38:11Speaker 1: different perspective of like every day is an absolute blessing
- 38:16Speaker 1: to have it at all, But like, why do we
- 38:20Speaker 1: why do we have to get so sick or even
- 38:23Speaker 1: face the specter of death very immediately.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Here's my kind of taken that regards.
- 38:30Speaker 3: I mean, you're a young man.
- 38:32Speaker 4: You've got to get out of this as fast as possible. Okay,
- 38:35Speaker 4: somebody is forced, and somebody choose. We play rugby back home.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Like football, but from when it's little bull kind.
- 38:43Speaker 4: Of like I always wish I could have played rug
- 38:45Speaker 4: instead of football.
- 38:46Speaker 2: The American that you get beaten up and cry and
- 38:48Speaker 2: a and I story maybe taking my boy to school
- 38:54Speaker 2: and he was a gentle boy.
- 38:55Speaker 4: Now it's six foot four.
- 38:56Speaker 2: And built like a brick, shut up, and he's confident.
- 38:58Speaker 2: But when he was in there, he was my little boy.
- 39:01Speaker 3: I like, Okay, he wants it, I'll teach him, or
- 39:05Speaker 3: will teach him.
- 39:06Speaker 2: And I got I got the school telling him about
- 39:08Speaker 2: what's important.
- 39:10Speaker 3: And I was standing here thinking, oh man, that's.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Not that's not all. There's so much more.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Can you not give us a little bit more of more?
- 39:19Speaker 4: Like what is important? You know?
- 39:20Speaker 2: How do we teach our kids to nurture things? How
- 39:23Speaker 2: do we teach them to respect when another? It's like
- 39:26Speaker 2: my motto is doing to others that you wish to have,
- 39:31Speaker 2: you know, And there's a consequence for every choice you made.
- 39:34Speaker 2: With the consequence, and make whatever choice you want. If
- 39:37Speaker 2: you want to go and raise your car on a
- 39:39Speaker 2: road drunk, go for it, but just understand that when
- 39:44Speaker 2: you hit a child crossing a road and you were
- 39:47Speaker 2: pissed and you live with that consequence.
- 39:50Speaker 4: So look at the consequence.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Before the choice, because because it can change your.
- 39:58Speaker 4: Entire life and someone else's. But eventually too yeah, obviously obviously. Yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 4: And and there's not enough.
- 40:06Speaker 3: People aren't really like I get away.
- 40:08Speaker 4: With too much of that nonsense. Yeah, that's that's kind
- 40:11Speaker 4: of it.
- 40:12Speaker 1: But yeah, so that's where I Matt, what are you
- 40:15Speaker 1: What are you excited about next? I mean, you've got
- 40:17Speaker 1: your daughter's working with you more, she's out having adventures.
- 40:22Speaker 4: What's next? So let me tell you.
- 40:24Speaker 2: What's the hardest part of my business, okay, is it's
- 40:27Speaker 2: a big business.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Do I like that? Not really, I don't do. I
- 40:33Speaker 4: love this. Oh yes, I love this.
- 40:37Speaker 3: But but big business as you get bigger, it's the fun.
- 40:41Speaker 4: Goes, more money, more problems. Right, It's like it's it's
- 40:45Speaker 4: just the fun goes. It's like, I'm all about fun,
- 40:48Speaker 4: and I don't. I'm a serious person.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I don't get me wrong, but it's got to be
- 40:52Speaker 2: You've got to enjoy that journey.
- 40:55Speaker 4: For me, what floats my birdes is creativity. Creativity flow
- 41:01Speaker 4: to my boat.
- 41:02Speaker 2: So that's why when I wander around here and I
- 41:04Speaker 2: see everybody trying their hand at something, I'm like, beautiful,
- 41:08Speaker 2: give it a shot.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Like I don't regret that you didn't. That's the worst.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Like like, and I started my life as a plumber.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Okay, it's half a job, man Haugh jobs like it's
- 41:22Speaker 2: a seriously tough dog.
- 41:24Speaker 3: And fish is an apprentice. We were old school apprentice.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Now you just textbook for sure. We do. We dug holes,
- 41:31Speaker 4: chip balls, We worked to ourses.
- 41:32Speaker 2: But my forearms are like this and breaking turning off
- 41:36Speaker 2: in twos.
- 41:37Speaker 4: And but it taught me so much.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Fitting holes like getting your hands dirty.
- 41:42Speaker 3: You know, people don't know how to get their hands
- 41:44Speaker 3: dirty in a couple.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Of mechanics, great and electricians, but that is such a
- 41:50Speaker 2: life lesson.
- 41:51Speaker 3: And you sold these problems and you're working with people
- 41:53Speaker 3: and you it's like having that in your pocket. I'm
- 41:58Speaker 3: afraid of nothing.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Yeah, because goes darn. I can dig a hole. I
- 42:02Speaker 4: can make a plan, planmbers make plans, that's right. So
- 42:05Speaker 4: I'm privileged.
- 42:06Speaker 2: And my daughter came to you O days she joined
- 42:09Speaker 2: the team. The team's gone through a bit of change
- 42:12Speaker 2: in marketing. She's been put behind the desk.
- 42:14Speaker 4: Said Dad, I don't like this.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I don't know if I want to stay.
- 42:18Speaker 4: She wants to be out in the field. Yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 3: And I said, George, I'm not going to hold you back.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Right yeah, Like the most beautiful thing for me was
- 42:27Speaker 2: for her to join us, Okay, but.
- 42:29Speaker 4: I don't want her to I don't know what.
- 42:31Speaker 3: I don't want her to start going down because we
- 42:35Speaker 3: put in a space, so we'll change that.
- 42:38Speaker 2: And the team didn't understand my idea behind the ell
- 42:41Speaker 2: Cap girls, and he gave me pushback.
- 42:44Speaker 4: And because I've had to hand over the torch.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Because I handed over the torch to the team.
- 42:49Speaker 2: I've always tried to be quite diplomatic and kind of
- 42:54Speaker 2: I'm not going to mess with you, but I'd like
- 42:56Speaker 2: to do this, and then they like rel Eventually I.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Said, guys, I'm going to do this.
- 43:01Speaker 2: We did it with Yanna a while back, was very successful,
- 43:04Speaker 2: and the girls that approached me her and her best
- 43:06Speaker 2: friend who had studied.
- 43:07Speaker 4: And you've been to school too, we want to do this.
- 43:11Speaker 4: I'm like, fabulous, fabulous. I wasn't even going.
- 43:14Speaker 3: To push my kids, and I wanted them to come
- 43:16Speaker 3: to meet.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I said, I'd love it. I talked to the team.
- 43:20Speaker 4: The team and I don't know about.
- 43:21Speaker 2: This, but I convinced him, and I love it because
- 43:27Speaker 2: I didn't want to.
- 43:28Speaker 3: I'm not into selling, but you got to sell.
- 43:31Speaker 4: But I like to sell the story.
- 43:33Speaker 2: And they were doing it so nicely, a little bit
- 43:35Speaker 2: slower in the beginning, like a little bit rough.
- 43:37Speaker 4: All festivals are the kind of thing. But they started
- 43:39Speaker 4: to get it. But we hit this obstacle with.
- 43:44Speaker 2: The rest of the marketing team and we had to
- 43:45Speaker 2: bring in new people and they got sucked into the office.
- 43:48Speaker 4: So I've got to get back there. They've got to
- 43:50Speaker 4: get back there.
- 43:51Speaker 3: But I love it because it's just them out there.
- 43:56Speaker 4: It's kind of like they're just having fun and.
- 43:58Speaker 2: They want an adventures and it's that's how I want
- 44:02Speaker 2: to sell the dream.
- 44:03Speaker 4: It's a beautiful thing to be out there.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And they talk about and the linking up with the
- 44:06Speaker 2: two operators that are also good people.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Yeah, good people that love the environment that are connected.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Can then you get the hardcore with burn wheels and
- 44:14Speaker 2: drive over the bush and give a ship and they
- 44:17Speaker 2: get people.
- 44:17Speaker 1: That are just so great for you know, Jeremy, if
- 44:20Speaker 1: you were to give some advice to yourself, and if
- 44:23Speaker 1: you could go back twenty years and give yourself some advice,
- 44:26Speaker 1: what would you give your self advice about now that
- 44:29Speaker 1: you've learned all this these ways, you know what I mean?
- 44:31Speaker 4: And you can go back.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Okay, you can't go back, but if you can tell
- 44:34Speaker 2: your son, no, no, no, I can, I'm going to
- 44:37Speaker 2: I'm going to teach those lessons.
- 44:38Speaker 4: That's the next part of my life. Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 3: So if you think about life anyway and you think
- 44:43Speaker 3: about where we.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Came from, Yeah, we'd sit around the campfire and the
- 44:47Speaker 2: elders would teach us.
- 44:50Speaker 3: And that's broken into internet, social media.
- 44:54Speaker 4: That's fast minute.
- 44:55Speaker 3: The only value that's left not our podcast, that's our
- 44:59Speaker 3: highest talk.
- 45:01Speaker 4: I adore them.
- 45:03Speaker 3: I spent I spent a lot of time on the road.
- 45:05Speaker 4: I wish I'd discovered them years.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Ago, and I wish they were more up there, you know.
- 45:09Speaker 2: But what a beautiful, beautiful thing that people.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Share their experiences.
- 45:16Speaker 3: I have learnt in the last two years.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I've learned so much affirmation because I know I've learned
- 45:25Speaker 2: it on the way, but it was never outlined to me.
- 45:28Speaker 2: You know, instinctively you're adapting and learning and ownership of
