- 0:00Speaker 1: Devin Greiz that you can. You're correspondent, Gevin. What's happening
- 0:03Speaker 1: with the elections in Germany.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, it's certainly going to be pretty exciting. According to
- 0:08Speaker 2: projections now, it looks like the far right Alternative for
- 0:13Speaker 2: Deutschland is set to win nearly a third of the vote,
- 0:17Speaker 2: coming up to thirty one percent of the vote in
- 0:19Speaker 2: a projection for the public broadcast to ard. That is
- 0:23Speaker 2: six points ahead of the Conservative CDU party. And if
- 0:27Speaker 2: you look at the three governing parties in the coalition,
- 0:31Speaker 2: they are well behind those two parties, and if confirmed,
- 0:34Speaker 2: it would give the far right its first vote win
- 0:37Speaker 2: in a state parliament since World War II and the Nazis. However,
- 0:41Speaker 2: it's unlikely to be able to form a government in
- 0:44Speaker 2: the state of Thuringia because other parties are refusing to
- 0:47Speaker 2: have anything to do with the Alternative for Deutschland. Five
- 0:51Speaker 2: million Germans are eligible vote in the two state elections.
- 0:55Speaker 2: The Alternative for Deutschland is also close behind the Conservative
- 0:58Speaker 2: CDU in the election for the state parliament in Saxony.
- 1:03Speaker 2: There we're getting a slightly improved rating for the CDU
- 1:08Speaker 2: and the Alternative for Deutschman again polling at thirty point
- 1:11Speaker 2: four percent, and the other three governing parties well down
- 1:15Speaker 2: on that as well. Why will we've had the knifing
- 1:17Speaker 2: has reported a couple of weeks back or a week
- 1:21Speaker 2: or so back now, and that was by a Syrian
- 1:24Speaker 2: asylum seeker. And I think basically immigration has played a
- 1:28Speaker 2: huge part in these two elections. And there's another election
- 1:31Speaker 2: coming up in a couple of weeks in the state
- 1:34Speaker 2: of Brandenburg.
- 1:35Speaker 1: All Right, given the key we skipper of the Basi
- 1:38Speaker 1: and the yacht that sank in near Sicily. The crew
- 1:42Speaker 1: members are talking. What are they saying?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they are They've been talking to local reporters. The
- 1:47Speaker 2: most recent interview has been given by Matthew Griffiths, and
- 1:52Speaker 2: he was a crew member of that yacht. You're a
- 1:54Speaker 2: member that seven people died, including sorry, seven people died
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the British tech tycoon Mike Lynch in that luxury
- 2:03Speaker 2: yacht sinking off the Sicilian port of Porticello back on
- 2:06Speaker 2: August the nineteenth. Now, what Matthew Griffiths, who was on
- 2:11Speaker 2: watch duty on the night of the disaster, says to
- 2:14Speaker 2: investigators is the crew members did everything they could to
- 2:16Speaker 2: save those on board. He said, I quote I woke
- 2:19Speaker 2: up the captain when the wind was twenty knots that's
- 2:21Speaker 2: roughly thirty seven kmph Ryan, and he gave the orders
- 2:25Speaker 2: to wake everyone else up. The ship then tilted and
- 2:28Speaker 2: we were thrown into the water. We managed to get
- 2:31Speaker 2: back up on and then tried to rescue those we could.
- 2:34Speaker 2: He said, we were walking on the walls of the
- 2:36Speaker 2: boat and basically we did try and save everyone, and
- 2:39Speaker 2: there were fifteen survivors. Now, the boat's captain, the Keiwe,
- 2:43Speaker 2: James Cupfield, and the ship engineer Tim Parker Eaton and
- 2:47Speaker 2: Matthew Griffiths, who's given this interview are all placed under
- 2:50Speaker 2: investigation by the Italian authorities for potential manslaughter and shipwrate.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But and I must stress being investigated does not imply
- 2:59Speaker 2: guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, Devin, Thank you for that. Gvin Graw. You
