Latest / Bible Chat Devotional / March 6 - Where’s Your Confidence?
Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in scripture and relevant for today, March 6th.
- 0:10Where S your confidence? What's the one thing you feel
- 0:14like you can't afford to lose? Maybe it's your grades, your
- 0:17job, your reputation, your savings, your relationship, your
- 0:21talent. We all have something we quietly
- 0:24lean on and think, as long as I have this, I'll be OK.
- 0:28But what happens when that very thing starts to shake?
- 0:31Proverbs Chapter 11, verse 28 says whoever trusts in his
- 0:35riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like a
- 0:38green leaf. That's a clear warning.
- 0:41If your confidence is built on something temporary, eventually
- 0:45it will give way. Riches don't just mean money.
- 0:49It can mean anything you treat as your security, success,
- 0:52popularity, appearance, influence.
- 0:55These things can feel solid until suddenly they're not.
- 0:59Job chapters 11 to 12 unfold in the middle of deep loss and
- 1:03confusion. In Job Chapter 11, verse 13, we
- 1:07read if you prepare your heart, you will stretch out your hands
- 1:10toward Him. Preparing your heart means
- 1:12intentionally turning toward God, not just when life is easy,
- 1:17but especially when it's hard. It means saying God before I
- 1:21trust my backup plans, before I lean on my own strength.
- 1:24I'm coming to you first. And then Job chapter 12, verse
- 1:2813 reminds us with God, our wisdom and might.
- 1:31He has counsel and understanding.
- 1:34Think about that. All wisdom, all might, all
- 1:37understanding the answers you're searching for, the direction
- 1:41you're unsure about, the strength you feel like you're
- 1:43missing. He already holds it when
- 1:45everything else shakes. God doesn't.
- 1:48Maybe you've experienced the disappointment of putting your
- 1:51confidence in something that didn't last.
- 1:53The team didn't win. The relationship ended.
- 1:56The opportunity slipped away. The savings ran low.
- 2:00Those moments can feel crushing, but they also reveal something
- 2:04important, what we were truly trusting.
- 2:07The righteous flourish like a green leaf, not because their
- 2:10circumstances are perfect, but because their roots are deep.
- 2:14A green leaf survives heat because it's connected to a
- 2:17living source. When your confidence is rooted
- 2:20in God, you may bend but you won't break.
- 2:23Preparing your heart daily through prayer, worship,
- 2:25scripture, quiet surrender keeps your confidence anchored.
- 2:30It shifts your mindset from I hope this works out to I trust
- 2:33the one who holds it all together.
- 2:34Life will test what you lean on. So ask yourself honestly,
- 2:38where's my confidence in what I have or in who God is?
- 2:43Because real security isn't found in temporary things, It's
- 2:47found in the unchanging God who has wisdom, power, and
- 2:50understanding beyond anything you can imagine.
- 2:52Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank You for
- 2:56being my steady foundation. When everything else feels
- 2:59uncertain, search my heart and show me where I've placed my
- 3:02confidence in things that can't last.
- 3:05Help me prepare my heart daily and stretch my hands toward You.
- 3:09Teach me to trust Your wisdom more than my own understanding
- 3:13and to stand firm in You no matter what shakes around me.
- 3:16In Jesus name, Amen. What if the most important
- 3:20question in your life deserves more than a shallow answer?

- 4:40Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 4:43Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 11 verse 28
- 4:48World English Bible He who trusts in his riches will fall,
- 4:52but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.
- 4:54Job Chapters 11 to 12 World English Bible.
- 4:58Then Zophar the Namathite answered, Shouldn't the
- 5:01multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be
- 5:04justified? Should your boastings make men
- 5:06hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make
- 5:09you ashamed? For you say, My doctrine is
- 5:12pure, I am clean in your eyes. But oh, that God would speak and
- 5:16open his lips against you, that He would show you the secrets of
- 5:19wisdom. For true wisdom has two sides.
- 5:22Know, therefore, that God exacts of you less than your iniquity
- 5:25deserves. Can you fathom the mystery of
- 5:27God, or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
- 5:30They are high as heaven. What can you do?
- 5:32They are deeper than she all. What can you know?
- 5:35Its measure is longer than the earth and broader than the sea.
- 5:38If he passes by or confines or convenes a court, then who can
- 5:41oppose him? For he knows false men.
- 5:44He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn't consider it.
- 5:48An empty headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild
- 5:51donkey's colt. If you set your heart aright,
- 5:54stretch out your hands toward him.
- 5:56If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away.
- 5:59Don't let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
- 6:01Surely then you will lift up your face without spot.
- 6:04Yes, you will be steadfast and will not fear, for you will
- 6:07forget your misery. You will remember it like waters
- 6:10that have passed away. Life will be clearer than the
- 6:13noonday. Though there is darkness, it
- 6:15will be as the morning. You will be secure because there
- 6:17is hope. Yes, you will search and will
- 6:20take your rest in safety. Also you will lie down and no
- 6:23one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor,
- 6:27but the eyes of the wicked will fail.
- 6:29They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up
- 6:32of the Spirit. Then Job answered, No doubt, but
- 6:35you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.
- 6:37But I have understanding as well as you.
- 6:39I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn't know such
- 6:43things as these? I am like one who is a joke to
- 6:45his neighbor. I who called on God and he
- 6:48answered the just. The blameless man is a joke in
- 6:52the thought of him who is at ease.
- 6:53There is contempt for misfortune.
- 6:55It is ready for them whose foot slips.
- 6:58The tense of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are
- 7:01secure, who carry their God in their hands.
- 7:04But ask the animals now, and they will teach you the birds of
- 7:07the sky, and they will tell you or speak to the earth, and it
- 7:10will teach you. The fish of the sea will declare
- 7:12to you. Who doesn't know that in all
- 7:14these Yahweh's hand has done this?
- 7:16In whose hand is the life of every living thing and the
- 7:19breath of all mankind? Doesn't the ear try words even
- 7:23as the palate tastes its food? With aged men is wisdom.
- 7:26In length of days understanding with God is wisdom and might.
- 7:31He has counsel and understanding.
- 7:33Behold, he breaks down, and it can't be built again.
- 7:36He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.
- 7:39Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up again.
- 7:42He sends them out, and they overturn the earth.
- 7:44With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver
- 7:48are his. He leads counselors away
- 7:50stripped. He makes judges fools.
- 7:52He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a
- 7:55belt. He leads priests away stripped,
- 7:58and overthrows the mighty. He removes the speech of those
- 8:01who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders.
- 8:05He pours contempt on Princess, and loosens the belt of the
- 8:08strong. He uncovers deep things out of
- 8:10darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death.
- 8:13He increases the nations and he destroys them.
- 8:16He enlarges the nations and He leads them captive.
- 8:20He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the
- 8:22earth and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is
- 8:25no way they grope in the dark without light.
- 8:29He makes them stagger like a drunken man.
