- 1:05Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Episode four episode 540.
- 1:09Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: We're we're over 440, so we're at 540.
- 1:15Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, we wouldn't have a show if it wasn't for you, so thank you very much.
- 1:19Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh I want to just talk a little bit about the uh FIFA World Cup final on uh just a couple days ago.
- 1:31Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh the match was Argentina versus Spain.
- 1:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Spain ended up winning one to zero.
- 1:42Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh but there was a lot of buzz, a lot of talk about the halftime show.
- 1:50Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh it was the apparently it was the first halftime show they did.
- 1:57Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh had the the Super Bowl vibes, I I feel, uh, with with it.
- 2:04Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: There were uh different artists from different genres.
- 2:11Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh you know, you had Madonna, uh you had Shakira, um Coldplay, um, BTS, Justin Bieber, and I may be missing uh maybe missing somebody, and I'm not missing them on purpose.
- 2:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh then the name just escapes my mind right now.
- 2:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: But what I wanted to share is how how big of a production that halftime show was, and just in general, right?
- 2:54Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: We there's certain things where we just think they're they're gonna be big productions, and you know, there's gonna be dancers, there's gonna be uh you know, uh, you know, the band's gonna be there.
- 3:10Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um there's just gonna be people with with those artists.
- 3:15Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh and that wasn't the case for uh with uh Justin Bieber, and there's a lot of lot of buzz about it uh for a couple of reasons.
- 3:32Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Number one, we have talked about this a lot on our show, and I'm getting goosebumps, uh, about there being a higher power, somebody we look up look up to uh to help guide us on our way, whoever that may be, and Jesus and God is that for Justin Bieber.
- 3:58Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So that's the first thing is the song he chose to play and to sing.
- 4:10Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He could have he could have just had a microphone and they could have had the backing track, and and he could have he could have uh done it that way.
- 4:23Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So, number one, everything hallelujah is the the song off of swag to Justin's uh album, and that's the song he picked.
- 4:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So he's basically talking about the gospel, talking about God, talking about Jesus.
- 4:41Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, you know, we talk about hallelujah.
- 4:45Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I'm looking at the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language, 5th edition, and Hallelujah is an interjection, and it can be used in three different ways.
- 5:01Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: One, it's used to express praise or joy, two, an exclamation used in songs of praise or thanksgiving to God, and I'd say that one pretty pretty on target on point with uh with Justin.
- 5:19Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And three, a general expression of gratitude or adoration.
- 5:25Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And and so, yeah, you have so many hits that Justin could have played and sang, you know, we can list we're not gonna list them out, but you know, he had so many to choose from, and he picked that he picked that one out.
- 5:47Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It takes a lot of um just a it just take a lot takes a lot of a lot of guts, especially with how the world has so much negativity and there's a lot of secular things going on, and for him to choose, you know, kind of like a gospel hymn is caught a lot of people all across the world off balance a little bit.
- 6:21Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like, whoa, we're expecting, you know, one of the, and this is a hit, it's just a hit that talks about God and adoration and um being grateful, and he didn't have a backup band, it was him.
- 6:44Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He had his headset with the microphone because he was playing guitar, so he just had an acoustic guitar and he was playing and singing.
- 6:58Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That was that that that's what his um that's the song he chose, that's how he did it.
- 7:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He could have done a huge production and he didn't.
- 7:10Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He kept it minimal, and I think that flows really well with how we try to do things.
- 7:26Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: We try to keep them simple to the point, right?
- 7:31Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: You see the background, you see the chair a little bit, you know, depending on, you know, we're just we're just doing our show.
- 7:41Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And you know, there's there's a lot of shows out there that you know have a lot of you know quotes that come in and pictures and all kind of but we just keep it basic.
- 7:56Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: We we we just we keep it just down to earth and transparent, and and I think that dovetails in a in a pretty close way to Justin's performance that I mean I'm just wearing like a black zip up jacket, pair of shorts, you know, nothing nothing fancy.
- 8:25Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um we don't have a crew that that helps us with the show.
- 8:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: You're looking at the crew, you're looking at the the the main host, like and that's that's me.
- 8:43Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And it's not to say that I deserve anything more than anybody else.
- 8:50Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I just bring it up because we just keep it simple and transparent, and in the whole and with the world and everything being hyped up as epic and all all these things that sometimes, and I think not just sometimes, I think a lot, I think a lot, I think a lot about the simplicity of things and how when I pray, how when I do things, I um try to keep it just as simple or as basic as possible.
- 9:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, you know, if that you're talking about me 20 years ago, you know, and I'm in my late teens, twenties, I was trying to do the big production, you know, going to the bars, going to the clubs, and some sometimes out of these world outfits and um accessories and ears pierced, like the whole thing.
- 10:09Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I mean, if you had asked me again, like I said, 20 years ago, I'd have a different answer.
- 10:17Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, but now simplicity a little bit more on the uh no, not a little bit, a lot on the simplicity and transparency and of uh just being me with guests, me on solo shows like this, with a camera, a computer, or a phone, or an iPad, and we just talk and we share what's going on.
- 11:00Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And I love that performance with Justin's big for a lot of reasons, uh, but I I I just mentioned a lot of them because you saw the other artists where they had you know backup dancers and they had uh more of a what you would call a production where there's a lot of different elements.
- 11:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: There could be dancing, there could be uh you know uh the full band or part of the band, and and and justin's like, no, give me my guitar, which he's left-handed, by the way.
- 11:41Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I'm left-handed, but I play the guitar right-handed.
- 11:45Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um and so I thought it was it was a very moving song, of course.
- 11:56Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Which if you haven't checked it out, check it out, get a copy of it, get swag too.
- 12:04Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That's the album it's on.
- 12:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Find it where you find your music.
- 12:10Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um and man, like it was it was like a breath of fresh air.
- 12:19Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Because, right, you got like, especially the way Coldplay does it, you know, there's a lot of different colors and things flashing and and that going on.
- 12:30Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um and then you just have Justin just kind of he's just there with his guitar, he's got his head singing, said one head uh on his in-ear monitor, so they're basically headphones.
- 12:53Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: One side was uh his vocals, and the other one was the backing track, meaning he was listening to the track, the song, uh, as it was like in the studio.
- 13:11Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And a lot of artists do that uh to keep they keep uh the timing as similar as can be um close to the not well, it's on the album, and I and I'm a big I I'd love artists who try to stick to the album, and some people would be like, well, you know, it's it's boring.
- 13:42Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like I don't think it's boring.
- 13:44Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like when I go to a concert or I listen to music, I watch somebody sing, listen to somebody sing, I want it to sound as close to the the album as possible.
- 13:58Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I know there's you know deviations here and there, but that that's just that's just me.
- 14:04Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So for Justin to do that, the simplicity, the song, everything, hallelujah.
- 14:15Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He used it, he used hallelujah to express the praise or joy, an exclamation used in songs of praise or thanksgiving to God, and a general expression of gratitude or adoration.
- 14:30Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And again, those are the definitions that are in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language fifth edition.
- 14:42Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That's where I pulled that from.
- 14:47Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So, what do you like?
- 14:48Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Do you like the big productions all the all the time?
- 14:52Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh or do you like you know this simplicity?
- 14:57Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like, what did you think about the performance?
- 15:00Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Did you like it?
- 15:01Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Did you not like it?
- 15:03Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I I know it caught a lot of people off guard.
- 15:08Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um I did I didn't know what he was gonna do.
- 15:12Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I I um because there were so many artists that were playing in a very short period of time, I didn't know if he would have was gonna do like a uh a medley, you know, of two or three songs, you know, parts parts of three different songs or two different songs.
- 15:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I didn't know if he was gonna do that or one song, and and if it was one song, I was just thinking, is it gonna be off of his new album, Swag One and Swag Two?
- 15:57Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And it ended up being a song off Swag Two, and it was just magnificent how stripped down again, a guitar, a microphone, it was a headset microphone, and there's some pretty cool pictures that I've seen not just showing him singing, but just seeing how the cameras were moving as as he was as Justin was walking slowly and his own his own speed, his own pace.
- 16:39Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And so it was neat to see that because at the end of the day, that that's what we were seeing at home.
- 16:49Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: What the can the camera people, what they were, how they were uh how they were filming the uh the artists at that halftime show.
- 17:02Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh overall, I I enjoyed it.
- 17:05Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um that's just me.
- 17:08Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh I didn't know too much about BTS.
- 17:12Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I I heard of them.
- 17:14Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I I just didn't know like song-wise and and that and that.
- 17:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um Shakira, I've heard heard her music, some of it.
- 17:28Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh I didn't recognize the song she did.
- 17:33Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I recognize the song that Madonna did.
- 17:38Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And the other thing about Justin, I sometimes in these big moments, like the Super Bowl halftime show, and these bigger shows, artists will lip sync, meaning they won't sing, they'll just move their lips that looks like they're following the uh the words of the song, and so it looks like they're singing, but they're really not.
- 18:06Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So they're trying to sync their lips to the music, and that was the other part about what Justin.
- 18:14Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Like, he was singing, like there was no doubt about that to me for that performance.
- 18:21Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh, and that's the other part.
- 18:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I enjoy the I enjoy all kinds of music, but at the end of the day, an artist that plays an instrument and can do what Justin did, I stripping it down, you know, no dancers, no backup, it just him, the guitar, the headset with the the microphone.
- 18:54Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That showed me his his the wide range that he has of the depth and breadth of his uh his music and musical talents.
- 19:09Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh because like if they're if people are dancing and that sometimes that could maybe get in the way a little bit of the songs of the music that that's being sung.
- 19:22Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh because people you know, because it's entertainment, so they're they're entertaining, and so they have the backup dancers sometimes.
- 19:33Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: They have you know the band, and you know usually you know they're dressed in a certain way.
- 19:40Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Uh but yeah, he's had a pair of shorts and they're like a shirt and a vest on, and he uh he just say keeping it real, yeah.
- 19:55Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He just kept it real.
- 19:56Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: He just like I said, him, a guitar, a microphone.
- 20:03Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That's all you need for music.
- 20:07Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Now there's all kind of artists out, and they they do their own renditions of their music and uh not talking down on any of them.
- 20:20Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: All I'm doing is just sharing like what I enjoy the most to playing an instrument and singing, not lip syncing.
- 20:36Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And then to do it on the big in one of the biggest stages in front of the people in the world.
- 20:43Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I don't I think they said I don't know if it was like a billion people worldwide around there that had tuned in, including you know the pe you know the the attendees of of the the match as well as across the world.
- 21:03Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: It was very well watched uh all across the world, and I thought that was a way for Justin to unite people, and that might have been one of the reasons why he picked that song, too.
- 21:25Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: That he's trying to unite people with his music, it shows how he's grown over the years.
- 21:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And listen, we all have mental health, uh, no matter what.
- 21:39Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I mean, the talent, it's unmistakable.
- 21:43Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I mean he can play an instrument, he can sing.
- 21:51Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I I thought it was neat.
- 21:53Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I was at the gym actually, and I was rushing through my workout because I wanted to see the uh see the halftime show because I I didn't know what to expect.
- 22:10Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: I mean I knew right there were different artists but I didn't I didn't know what it would what it would would be like um and so luckily I did get finished with my workout at the gym got some picked up some protein bars at the store and then I made it home and there were still a few minutes left in the first half of the match uh that Spain ultimately ended up winning the World Cup 1 to 0 against Argentina and then I got to I got to watch the the halftime show so it was neat it was something to look forward to and again it was a little bit of a a lot of a breath of fresh air uh for Justin Bieber to pick the song he did in the rendition he did with just him as a guitar and microphone and uh the headset microphone because he's playing the guitar so he's got one he's strumming the strings with one hand and then he's moving his fingers to different chord positions on the fretboard uh with his other hand so that's why he needed kind of the headset um microphone so let us know what you think what what did you think of uh the the FIFA World Cup final what did you think of the halftime show what did you think of all the artists but especially Justin Bieber's uh song choice and uh just him and the guitar and the headset microphone Everything Hallelujah that's the song you want to check out thanks Justin for really taking that high road because the easy thing to do was to do the big production like people are used to at concerts and he didn't and it feels like in a different way like with our shows and we're keeping it simple too we don't have a a ton of tricks or things to really go on we just have a show we share we laugh we cry easy topics hard topics and we're just so grateful to have you with us so if you can maybe reach out to 25 50 or 100 contacts on your phone share the voices for voices podcast with them wherever they get their podcasts and wherever you get your podcast that'd be so great again and then a thumbs up like follow subscribe share reshare repost uh we are and we have a huge goal to reach and help at least three billion people over the course of my lifetime and beyond so it's basically three times the amount of people that watched the FIFA World Cup and the FIFA World Cup halftime show we're gonna do it and we're gonna do it because we have the the best viewers and listeners anywhere on the on on the globe on planet earth so thank you very much and we'll talk to you on the next episode of the show until then let's celebrate the voices of everybody in the world and let's be a voice not only for ourselves but maybe somebody else that may be in need that isn't able to share their voice.
- 26:32Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So we'll see you next time.
- 26:34Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Bye bye for now
