- 0:22SPEAKER_00: As you know, Western culture is permeated with the idea that we always have to be winning.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Social media only makes things harder for us.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: We only post our wins, our successes, and our joyful moments.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Everywhere we look, we see people winning, and that's the only thing that we want people to see from us, isn't it?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Now, even though we know that winning all the time isn't reality, it's still discouraging to look in our own lives sometimes and see nothing but a string of disappointments when you're going through a particular discouraging time.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: There's that book that we should have finished two years ago.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: There's that podcast that's not taking off like we hoped.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: There's that client who didn't say yes to our proposal.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: But these disappointments don't necessarily mean that we lost.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: They could help us win if we frame it in the right way.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: The musician Lionel Ritchie, one of my favorites from the 1980s, said, When you win, you win.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: When you lose, you learn.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So take a moment to look at your failures, quote unquote, your failures, and your losses objectively.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: What did you learn from them?
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: What can you do better next time?
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: How can they help you be more successful?
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: If you constantly look at life this way, there's no possible way to lose.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Every experience, whether it's a success or a failure, is an opportunity to win and climb just a little bit higher.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Think about the last major period of growth in your life.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Did you learn and grow because things were easy or because they were hard?
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And because there were challenges that you learned from and you grew because of those challenges.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm pretty sure I know the answer, and that is you only grew when there were actual challenges.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So no matter what you're experiencing in your writing life right now, you can learn from it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: If things are going well, what can you improve?
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And if everything is not going well right now, what can you learn and apply to the next time something doesn't go according to plan?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Hey, if you look at every experience as a learning opportunity, there's really no such thing as failure.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, here's today's challenge.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I want you to ask yourself, what's not going quite right for me right now?
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And what can I learn from the situation and how can it help me improve?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: When you ask that question, it really changes your perspective and it's going to help you to learn from the situation and do better next time or improve the thing that you're already doing right now.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So make sure to ask that question.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Take a couple minutes to reflect on it, and I promise it's going to help you.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, my friend, as always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
