- 0:12So look, I wasn't going to talk about this at all.
- 0:15I'd already done an episode about this story, but I didn't
- 0:20want to. I didn't want to talk about it
- 0:21again. I thought it wasn't really
- 0:23wasn't really worthwhile to be honest.
- 0:25However, it's just come back up in the news.
- 0:28Been talking about the former police officer, I think he's
- 0:32still former now, but he's the son of the former senator and
- 0:38actually I'd forgotten she was actually the NSW premier for a
- 0:41little while. Christina Connealy.
- 0:44Anyway, it looks like he was found guilty.
- 0:48I'm just going to play this quick video for you, mainly
- 0:50because I think there's a few lessons.
- 0:52There's a few lessons that can be learnt from this.
- 0:59In 2019, he was a proud police Academy graduate, his beaming
- 1:03mother by his side. But Daniel Connealy is now a
- 1:07disgraced police officer, limping into court to learn his
- 1:10fate, flanked by his father and his lawyer.
- 1:14In 2021, the Newtown police officer was on a night shift
- 1:17when he took a call from Goulburn man Luke Moore.
- 1:20After the 12 minute conversation, Connealy wrote a
- 1:22statement saying Mr. Moore had threatened police.
- 1:26Keneally's statement claimed the caller named a Goulburn
- 1:28detective, saying he was dead. As good as gone and I'm coming
- 1:32for him when he least expects it.
- 1:35Mr. Moore spent three weeks behind bars after being charged
- 1:38with using a carriage service to menace and threaten to kill, but
- 1:42a recording he'd secretly made during the call later proved he
- 1:45had not said the things Keneally had claimed.
- 1:48Police dropped the charges and apologized.
- 1:51Then the Law Enforcement Commission charged Kennealy with
- 1:53fabricating evidence with the intent to mislead a judicial
- 1:56tribunal. Kennealy told the court he'd
- 1:59opened Mr. Moore's website during the call and may have
- 2:02mixed up some of what he'd read on screen with what he'd heard
- 2:06during the hearing. Kennealy gave evidence that he
- 2:08was tired and wasn't really coping with things in his job.
- 2:11He admitted he wasn't 100% confident where he'd gotten some
- 2:14aspects of his statement from, but maintained he didn't
- 2:17purposefully add any material that he knew to be false.
- 2:21But the magistrate found Kennealy had deliberately
- 2:23misled, saying clearly a false statement has been made.
- 2:27An intelligent policeman on a matter of this importance could
- 2:30not make this mistake inadvertently.
- 2:35That statement there from the magistrate Little.
- 2:38A little back end. An intelligent police officer
- 2:43Anyway. Kicker, kicker.
- 2:46His lawyer says Connealy will appeal Mr. Connealy anyway.
- 2:50He's gonna appeal. Whatever.
- 2:52Look, I just thought, you know, couple of things we can learn
- 2:56from here. If police are gonna call you up
- 3:00and start talking over the phone and questioning you about
- 3:02things, make sure you're recording it, please.
- 3:07And anyone else noticed that he was flanked by his father and
- 3:12his lawyer mother not to be seen.
- 3:14That's some that's some bad PR there.
- 3:17So you know, we have some bad form from NSW Police and an ex
- 3:22politician who's probably thinking she'd like to get back
- 3:24in the game, but his son is making things a little hard for
- 3:29her anyway. I just thought I'd put this up
- 3:31there. It's not much of A story really.
- 3:33I mean the clown. I I don't understand what he was
- 3:35thinking. Poor little.
- 3:37Poor little baby thought, Well, his excuses.
- 3:41I was a bit tired. I was a bit tired.
- 3:43What could I When I got confused?
- 3:45I was just tired and confused. What can I do?
- 3:50Oh, anyway, not much of A story. Like I said, but it's good to
- 3:55see justice going both ways. OK.
- 3:58Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there.
- 4:02Remember any interaction that you have.
- 4:05You really do need to back yourself up and record things
- 4:08when it's happening. Thanks for listening to the
- 4:12slippery slope. They
