- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next year.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking
- 0:07Speaker 2: off your day
- 0:07Speaker 1: in the best way. It's Sonia and Joakim on the
- 0:11Speaker 1: shock circuit.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's officially Friday. What are you doing this weekend? Woo! Oh,
- 0:15Speaker 1: the panda eyes have returned. Oh,
- 0:18Speaker 2: because the matches started again, is it? Yes,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we are well into quarterfinals action now, Sonia.
- 0:23Speaker 2: It's going to be this way the whole weekend. Yes.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Good luck to your
- 0:26Speaker 1: body.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And some breaking news for you in the World Cup world.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Morocco are eliminated. France are through to the semi-finals. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: if you're a France fan, Ale Le Bleu, well done.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I mean, aside from Kylian Mbappe missing a penalty, then
- 0:50Speaker 1: scoring a fantastic goal, Usman Dembele scoring for France as well.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's 2-0. Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are tied in
- 0:59Speaker 1: terms of the Adidas Golden Boot winner for the top
- 1:03Speaker 1: scorer for World Cup 2026, but Kylian Mbappe is in
- 1:07Speaker 1: number one because he has more assists.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Than Lionel Messi. So we're done with France and Morocco.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Who will be joining them? We've got Spain against Belgium
- 1:18Speaker 1: on Saturday morning, and on Sunday morning, we've got two games,
- 1:22Speaker 1: England against Norway. What a game that's gonna be, and
- 1:25Speaker 1: Argentina against Switzerland. It is heating up. We are in
- 1:29Speaker 1: the thick of the action right now,
- 1:31Speaker 2: people. And thank you for holding the fort while I
- 1:33Speaker 2: make my morning coffee.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It's always so much needed. Sorry.
- 1:36Speaker 1: On that topic of Post Malone, yes, we are counting
- 1:39Speaker 1: down to his concert here in Singapore. We can't really
- 1:42Speaker 1: say what it's called the big A World Tour.
- 1:46Speaker 1: 25th of September, the indoor stadium is sold out.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: National Stadium.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Actually, I'm wondering if, I'm wondering if he will open
- 1:54Speaker 2: up another date. It's only one date, right, so far. Yeah. So, um,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I was too slow. I didn't manage to get tickets
- 2:01Speaker 2: in the end.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Um, which was my lesson learned for when the weekend
- 2:06Speaker 2: tickets came out, I immediately went to get it, but
- 2:09Speaker 2: this one I'm pretty bummed. I'm hoping that he might
- 2:11Speaker 2: announce like an additional day or something.
- 2:13Speaker 1: By
- 2:13Speaker 1: the way, it's the National Stadium Stadium, which I think
- 2:16Speaker 1: it's sold out, you know, because I'm on Ticketmaster right now.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I clicked find tickets. Oh.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Are there limited tickets left? Limited some very good
- 2:25Speaker 1: sections apparently. Alright,
- 2:28Speaker 2: well, something to consider if we have not already spent
- 2:31Speaker 2: too much on concerts and festivals
- 2:34Speaker 2: this year.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He won't be coming alone. He'll be taking Don Tolliver
- 2:38Speaker 1: alongside him.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Nice. Well, you know, um, I think 2026, we still
- 2:42Speaker 2: got plenty of acts to be announced. A lot of
- 2:44Speaker 2: indie acts actually coming to Singapore, making a stop here,
- 2:47Speaker 2: which we're all very excited about. You
- 2:48Speaker 1: were, you were raving
- 2:51Speaker 2: about Cinema.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That's my childhood, man. I grew up to Two Door
- 2:54Speaker 2: Cinema Club, never got a chance to see them live. Um,
- 2:58Speaker 2: so I really, really hope that actually the tickets go
- 3:00Speaker 2: out today.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Public sales start today. If I'm not wrong, there were
- 3:05Speaker 2: some advanced sales over the past few days. If you
- 3:07Speaker 2: don't know who Two Door Cinema Club is, aside from
- 3:09Speaker 2: the fact that they're already indie, so chances are you
- 3:11Speaker 2: may not know them. We don't play them also on 987.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Go search them up, discover some new music this morning.
- 3:17Speaker 1: One way or another, there's always a war here in Singapore.
- 3:22Speaker 2: But we'll, we'll be right there with you on that, OK?
- 3:24Speaker 2: We'll update you along the way.
- 3:26Speaker 2: less than 20 minutes away before we open up the
- 3:29Speaker 2: phone lines and joking with you this Friday morning.
- 3:31Speaker 1: With the unpredictable weather here in Singapore, where it can
- 3:35Speaker 1: go from sunshine to rain in an instant, consider this
- 3:39Speaker 1: a word of warning and caution, especially if you love
- 3:41Speaker 1: going to your nature trails, walking along shaded areas, or
- 3:45Speaker 1: even driving on the roads here in Singapore. Look out
- 3:48Speaker 1: for falling trees.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh no, is it happening more often?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so
- 3:53Speaker 1: apparently over at Ang Mo Kio, a tree fell on
- 3:57Speaker 1: a car during heavy rain, but thankfully it's not those
- 3:59Speaker 1: thick trees, yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 2: yeah, like a thinner
- 4:02Speaker 1: branch, those skinny ones. So the passengers were kind of shaken,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but thankfully nobody got hurt. So
- 4:08Speaker 2: if anything, if there's any damage to the car or injuries,
- 4:12Speaker 2: then whose fault is it?
- 4:14Speaker 1: I, I think this is the case where they call
- 4:16Speaker 1: it act of God.
- 4:19Speaker 2: OK, OK, interesting. No, no, no, I always wondered about
- 4:22Speaker 2: these cases because, you know, let's say in a park, right? If,
- 4:26Speaker 2: if a tree is, is investigated and the tree isn't
- 4:29Speaker 2: pruned properly or it wasn't maintained, is that considered like
- 4:34Speaker 2: the responsibility of the park? Yeah,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I don't know
- 4:37Speaker 1: you take it up with our friends.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, this will be interesting to to read up
- 4:42Speaker 2: about
- 4:42Speaker 1: and this is why our friends over at Parks, I
- 4:45Speaker 1: believe they work doubly hard to make sure the trees
- 4:47Speaker 1: are in good condition and all that. But in terms
- 4:51Speaker 1: of your nature trails, I'm not too sure how they
- 4:54Speaker 1: maintain
- 4:54Speaker 1: it
- 4:55Speaker 2: inside. Also, at the same time, these things, sometimes you
- 4:58Speaker 2: can't really touch too much, right? You can't always like
- 5:00Speaker 2: send people in to go and
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, how many people can they deploy?
- 5:04Speaker 1: So this is why whenever I run inside MacRitchie, you
- 5:08Speaker 1: could follow what I do and not listen to music
- 5:11Speaker 1: to be extra alert, not just for the trees, but
- 5:14Speaker 1: the wildlife around you. Yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 2: OK, so I need to listen to music on the
- 5:18Speaker 2: rare occasion that I go running, but what I do
- 5:21Speaker 2: is I switch it if you're on AirPods, I switch
- 5:23Speaker 2: it to transparency mode, exactly. So you can hear everything
- 5:27Speaker 2: around you.
- 5:28Speaker 1: OK, yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: that's good.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Hi, Nadine. Hi, Nadine. Good morning. OK, tell us a
- 5:33Speaker 2: bit more about you. Where you off to?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Oh, I'm actually off to
- 5:35Speaker 1: send my daughter to school. Oh, so she was the
- 5:38Speaker 1: one that said, Mommy, can you please call in? No,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I just tried
- 5:40Speaker 1: for her. Oh, that's so sweet.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Well, can we say hi to your daughter then? Sure.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Hello, what's your name?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Alexis.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Hi Alexis, which school are you off to?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Saint Nicholas. Yay,
- 5:52Speaker 2: Nick.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think this is not the first time we've got
- 5:54Speaker 2: a girl on the line, right? Yes,
- 5:56Speaker 1: Alexis, what is the best part about CHI and Nicholas?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Uh, the canteen. Always, it's always going to be the food.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think there's a bit of a canteen war going
- 6:06Speaker 2: on between
- 6:07Speaker 2: schools.
- 6:07Speaker 1: So the next time when Sonia and I go back
- 6:09Speaker 1: to St. Nicholas, what should we have from your canteen?
- 6:12Speaker 1: The best thing to have. The
- 6:14Speaker 2: Korean meat soup from
- 6:15Speaker 1: the noodle store.
- 6:16Speaker 2: You
- 6:16Speaker 1: have Korean meat soup.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Wow, that sounds so good.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Michelin star winning canteen or
- 6:22Speaker 2: what? I don't think my canteen was very complex back then.
- 6:26Speaker 2: We didn't have that great options, but thank you for sharing.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Can we get you a song this morning? Uh, anything
- 6:31Speaker 2: by BTS. OK, we got you on that. So anything
- 6:34Speaker 2: at all, you let us choose, ah.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, OK, this one's coming up for you. Have a
- 6:38Speaker 2: great day. 987. Love this track and I love that
- 6:42Speaker 2: trend that came with it. It was
- 6:43Speaker 1: so cool. Can I try
- 6:44Speaker 1: something? No. No? OK, fine.
- 6:47Speaker 2: OK, wait, now I'm curious. What
- 6:49Speaker 1: I thought I could be RM for a while. Stop it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You ready?
- 6:54Speaker 1: hooligan.
- 6:55Speaker 2: This is what nightmares are made of once again.
- 6:59Speaker 2: In case you just joined us, thank you. And if
- 7:02Speaker 2: you are wondering how can you get your dedications in
- 7:05Speaker 2: every morning, you just got to be the first few
- 7:07Speaker 2: to call us 669-11987. Every weekday we do this before
- 7:12Speaker 2: you get to school. Hopefully, it makes you feel a
- 7:13Speaker 2: bit better, you know. And
- 7:14Speaker 1: if
- 7:14Speaker 1: you're a BTS fan, hopefully you got tickets to their
- 7:18Speaker 1: concert here in Singapore, not one, not two.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But 4 nights in total, and please be careful, OK?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Scams are happening. People are losing money for BTS tickets
- 7:28Speaker 1: to scammers. Don't
- 7:29Speaker 1: let it be you.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, um, I've got friends who, I mean, they were
- 7:33Speaker 2: texting me asking like, hey, do you have any chance
- 7:36Speaker 2: at all that you have access to BTS tickets? I'm like, girl,
- 7:38Speaker 2: we're like the same at this point because for certain
- 7:41Speaker 2: concerts like that, right?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Joakim, you and I, even though we're in the industry,
- 7:45Speaker 2: we still have to buy our tickets, by the way,
- 7:47Speaker 2: just FYI.
- 7:48Speaker 1: OK, look, it's July, maybe October or November 987 you
- 7:54Speaker 1: check again. Maybe we might have like those giveaways.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Exactly. Usually we will try our best to do that.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So make sure you stick around for that. So actually
- 8:02Speaker 2: I've planned a trip to Taiwan later on in the year, one.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But what's happening right now is that uh 16 SIA
- 8:10Speaker 2: and Scoot flights to and from Singapore have been canceled
- 8:13Speaker 2: due to Super Typhoon Bavi approaching Taiwan. Now, as you know,
- 8:17Speaker 2: Taiwan is a place where earthquakes can happen. Um, is
- 8:21Speaker 2: it earthquakes or is it typhoons? I think more typhoons, right?
- 8:24Speaker 2: If I'm not hurricane. Oh, both, is it?
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, so they, they get affected by it quite a bit.
- 8:29Speaker 2: So just FYI, these flights have been canceled. Affected customers
- 8:33Speaker 2: can choose to either rebook or you can request for
- 8:36Speaker 2: a full refund. I mean, this is clearly beyond our control.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Please don't complain and don't curse and swear and don't
- 8:43Speaker 1: say things like, how can they cancel my flight.
- 8:46Speaker 1: is so important we know, no, no,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I mean this.
- 8:50Speaker 2: This typhoon is not to be messed with. Um, it
- 8:53Speaker 2: was churning southeast of Taiwan just yesterday actually. So I
- 8:57Speaker 2: think it's, uh, the forecast is not great. It's going
- 8:59Speaker 2: to severely affect the next couple of days. So be
- 9:02Speaker 2: sure to check in on your friends. If you have
- 9:04Speaker 2: any friends or family members in Taiwan, just check in
- 9:06Speaker 2: on them. Um, FYI just, I think it was 22
- 9:09Speaker 2: years ago, Joe.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I was in Taiwan when a typhoon actually hit. Yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 2: so it was my first time actually experiencing anything like that.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie, it was a little scary, even
- 9:20Speaker 2: though the hotels, you know, over there in Taiwan, they're
- 9:22Speaker 2: very used to it. They say it's safe, don't worry, um,
- 9:25Speaker 2: it's just gonna be declared like, uh, um, like a
- 9:28Speaker 2: public holiday the next day because it's gonna fully hit.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So our friends who lived in Taiwan, actually they were
- 9:34Speaker 2: quite calm about it. They said, just stay indoors, like
- 9:36Speaker 2: don't unnecessarily walk outside and all that.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So from our hotel looking down, right, the rain, because
- 9:42Speaker 2: as the rain came down, the wind was so heavy,
- 9:45Speaker 2: the rain was going sideways, you know, like the direction
- 9:48Speaker 2: of the rain. It looked like it was going sideways
- 9:50Speaker 2: and trees were almost snapping, bicycles were flying, it was,
- 9:55Speaker 2: it was quite scary.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Singapore geographical.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But again, I say this, I don't know why, but
- 10:03Speaker 1: somehow for the last 2 or 3 months, the Pacific
- 10:06Speaker 1: Ring of Fire has been very active. So be extra
- 10:10Speaker 1: careful if you're hiking up active volcanoes and mountains and
- 10:12Speaker 1: all that, please.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you make sure that you've got the right guide
- 10:17Speaker 2: and everything.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I have, uh, I'm, I'm just upset with myself that
- 10:23Speaker 2: I did not discover Daniel CV earlier because I'm loving
- 10:26Speaker 2: his music and I binge listened to his entire album.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Sounds like what I would hear in your car. Yes,
- 10:31Speaker 2: exactly right.
- 10:32Speaker 1: This is the kind, yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, uh, how many Juju Worlds do you have?
- 10:37Speaker 2: It's a juju doll. The place was called Juju. Oh, OK. Um,
- 10:41Speaker 2: I have 3 actually. I have 3.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Can we wholesale on Carousel, please?
- 10:45Speaker 2: No, why?
- 10:46Speaker 1: Why? The profits you will make. Come on.
- 10:50Speaker 2: OK, tell me what they're reselling it for and what
- 10:54Speaker 2: colors are they reselling? Is it specific to the Singapore
- 10:57Speaker 2: collection or what? I think
- 10:58Speaker 1: so. So before I start, CJ Henry's blind in Singapore,
- 11:04Speaker 1: it was $39 per box, right? And if you're lucky,
- 11:08Speaker 1: you get the Singapore exclusive yellow color, to which I
- 11:11Speaker 1: think everyone was going for it.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Are you ready? Guess how much it's being sold for
- 11:17Speaker 1: on Carousel.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Resold
- 11:19Speaker 2: in mint condition or I'm guessing they had to open
- 11:22Speaker 2: it to realize that it was yellow, right? OK, so just, um, OK,
- 11:26Speaker 2: I don't know, like 1000 higher, higher, OK.
- 11:30Speaker 2: 3000.
- 11:32Speaker 1: OK, slightly lower.
- 11:33Speaker 2: 2000. 2,000+ from a doll that I bought at $39.
- 11:37Speaker 1: $39. Some of the resellers have marked it up by 7,500%
- 11:45Speaker 1: to 28, 2,888
- 11:47Speaker 1: dollars.
- 11:48Speaker 2: That's actually quite nuts. That's nuts. So
- 11:50Speaker 1: Sonia, come on, please.
- 11:51Speaker 2: OK, I, uh, coincidentally I did have to get the
- 11:54Speaker 2: yellow one by by sheer luck. That's luck, but I
- 11:58Speaker 2: actually kind of like her. She's cute.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Sonia, she cute though. Sonia, I like money too,
- 12:06Speaker 2: just because if I ever resell it, it means the
- 12:07Speaker 2: money go to you. What did you do to help
- 12:09Speaker 2: me get this yellow juju doll? I proposed the plan.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I already knew people were reselling it.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I incepted the idea into your head.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I didn't in anything.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Well, lucky I never carry it today. Later I come back,
- 12:23Speaker 2: it's missing. Please
- 12:24Speaker 1: do not put
- 12:25Speaker 1: it on your bag or whatsoever, OK. So apparently what
- 12:28Speaker 1: there's a rare and ultra rare juju and the big
- 12:31Speaker 1: plush store.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, mine is the yellow one on the right, yeah, yeah, OK.
- 12:36Speaker 2: That's so funny. Oh my God,
- 12:38Speaker 1: is sold for 2,888.
- 12:41Speaker 2: That's That's a yellow yellow is labeled like the Singapore
- 12:45Speaker 2: exclusive if I'm not wrong. The whole place was yellow.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Hey, by the way, to all these carousel resellers, can
- 12:50Speaker 1: you please take a
- 12:51Speaker 1: better
- 12:51Speaker 2: picture? I know this is quite scary. Why
- 12:54Speaker 1: do you make the juju doll look demonic?
- 12:57Speaker 2: The angle and the lighting is quite bad.
- 13:00Speaker 1: If you're gonna sell something for $2,888 I expect a
- 13:04Speaker 1: better picture.
- 13:05Speaker 2: The thing is, I guess they know people want it,
- 13:07Speaker 2: so they couldn't care less with the quality of the photos.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean,
- 13:11Speaker 1: from your photos, it looks like it could be a
- 13:13Speaker 1: potential scam.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Right? Yeah. But here's the thing, right, just so you know, um,
- 13:16Speaker 2: when you resell these things, the artists don't, don't get
- 13:19Speaker 2: the profit at all, by the way. They know this. Yes,
- 13:22Speaker 2: they know this, yeah, so, um.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Whatever. I mean, this is just human nature, right? You know,
- 13:27Speaker 2: you get it and you try and resell it, but
- 13:29Speaker 2: I'm curious to know how much the person who's reselling
- 13:33Speaker 2: it spent, because if you know, if you go down to,
- 13:38Speaker 2: if you went down to Juju World or any blindbox situation, which,
- 13:41Speaker 2: you know, I'm not really a blindbox person, that was
- 13:43Speaker 2: my first experience with it. When you go down, right,
- 13:45Speaker 2: it truly is blindbox, you don't know where is which
- 13:49Speaker 2: color or whatever, you don't know.
- 13:50Speaker 2: So the amount of juju dolls this person might have
- 13:54Speaker 2: had to buy could have surpassed $2000. You never know.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I mean, just to get the
- 13:58Speaker 1: yellow one. You want to know that. I want to
- 14:01Speaker 1: know who buys it. Can we be friends? Yeah, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: know if you can drop almost $300 like that casually
- 14:07Speaker 1: just buy me burnt ends dinner la, not asking much,
- 14:10Speaker 2: can you stop hinting?
- 14:12Speaker 2: Joy is trying to hint because his birthday is coming up,
- 14:14Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying? I'm coming up in just
- 14:16Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 14:17Speaker 2: This use this story as a bit of a cautionary tale, OK,
- 14:24Speaker 2: that one I think is a three-part novel if I'm
- 14:26Speaker 2: not wrong. Speaking of which, any updates or like anything
- 14:30Speaker 2: that you can let our listeners know, sometimes they're quite invested,
- 14:32Speaker 2: you know. Again,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I've promised whoever's tuned in to 987 when something becomes
- 14:39Speaker 1: official in my life, you'll be the first to know.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I'll be the first to know first, right? Then you're
- 14:44Speaker 2: gonna say it on air.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean, in terms of close friends, you and my
- 14:48Speaker 1: other best friend would know first, and then of course
- 14:50Speaker 1: the next people I tell will be on 987 and
- 14:54Speaker 1: I want Singapore and I want to keep it exclusive
- 14:56Speaker 1: to 987, not any other press outlets or whatsoever, no
- 15:00Speaker 2: need. I mean, that's not gonna happen unless you send
- 15:03Speaker 2: them a press release or you post something, it's true.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I mean I'm the last person to do that. I mean,
- 15:10Speaker 2: the moment you post a picture with your future partner.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean, I couldn't control the kind of headlines that
- 15:16Speaker 2: came out of mine, you know what I mean? Like it's,
- 15:17Speaker 2: it's not even, it wasn't even verified with me. Anyway,
- 15:23Speaker 2: a cautionary warning tale coming up in just a little bit.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Stay tuned. But this really when I read this story
- 15:29Speaker 2: served as a bit of a cautionary tale.
- 15:30Speaker 2: For all of us, um, just to make sure and
- 15:33Speaker 2: check in, I would say check in on your friends and,
- 15:36Speaker 2: you know, the people around you sometimes because you don't
- 15:38Speaker 2: know what's going on. I'm not sure if you follow
- 15:41Speaker 2: or you know of this, um, looks maxing influencer by
- 15:44Speaker 2: the name of Connor Murphy. Do you know him?
- 15:47Speaker 1: Uh, for the uninitiated, can you explain what looks maxing
- 15:51Speaker 1: is first?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Meaning he will do or people who are maxing will
- 15:55Speaker 2: do whatever it takes to achieve the best possible look
- 15:57Speaker 2: in their eyes.
- 15:59Speaker 1: In that case, I'm minimizing. Yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 2: look, I mean, you know, nowadays anything can be something maxing, right?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Like if you know, if you know, you know. So, um, he,
- 16:09Speaker 2: he was known as the looks maxing influencer for.
- 16:11Speaker 2: All the fitness stuff, all the things that he, he
- 16:13Speaker 2: does to make himself better looking. Um, unfortunately, over in Thailand,
- 16:19Speaker 2: a very, very unfortunate incident for Connor Murphy, only 32,
- 16:23Speaker 2: he passed away and his rented house was found absolutely vandalized.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Reports uncovered that he was showing very weird behavior in
- 16:33Speaker 2: the moments leading up to him apparently allegedly.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Jumping into a lake and not surviving. Um, I think
- 16:40Speaker 2: there's some speculation that there were substances involved in this
- 16:44Speaker 2: case because they were saying that he's never displayed, um,
- 16:47Speaker 2: behavior like this ever, ever before, and he's been renting
- 16:50Speaker 2: this apartment that's worth quite a lot. Um, so the rent,
- 16:54Speaker 2: I think is at least about maybe 2000 Sing or
- 16:57Speaker 2: almost 20 a month, which is considered quite expensive, you know, in,
- 17:01Speaker 2: in Thailand, right, but
- 17:02Speaker 2: The upsetting thing was, I think the person that owns,
- 17:05Speaker 2: owns the, the house, said that this house means a
- 17:09Speaker 2: lot to them and when they actually went in to
- 17:11Speaker 2: take a look at it, there was paint splashed everywhere,
- 17:14Speaker 2: like the furniture, things were all damaged, you know, so
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't know, this is an ongoing investigation in the case,
- 17:21Speaker 2: but he was a pretty high profile influencer in the US.
- 17:24Speaker 2: So I think it's drawn a lot of attention.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I feel there's
- 17:29Speaker 1: that we know from the local media and the press.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So hopefully the police will release more info about this
- 17:34Speaker 1: because if he has never displayed behavior like this before
- 17:37Speaker 1: and all of a sudden he was seen doing weird
- 17:39Speaker 1: things and weird behavior, was something of his spiked? Was
- 17:43Speaker 1: his drink
- 17:43Speaker 2: spiked? They found things that indicated there may be some
- 17:48Speaker 2: substance like I mentioned earlier, so they're still investigating, so
- 17:52Speaker 2: we don't know just yet.
- 17:53Speaker 2: But, um, hey, you know what, at the end of
- 17:55Speaker 2: the day, no matter what your friends are going through, sometimes,
- 17:58Speaker 2: you know, I do have friends who go through different
- 17:59Speaker 2: things in life and then they suddenly like up and
- 18:01Speaker 2: leave and, and say, I'm going to spend a month
- 18:03Speaker 2: in Thailand or Bali or I'm going to go discover myself.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I think the good thing to do is just check
- 18:08Speaker 2: in on them every once in a while, um, especially
- 18:10Speaker 2: if a loved one is traveling overseas for an extended
- 18:13Speaker 2: period of time, just, you know, check in, show some love. Um,
- 18:16Speaker 2: in my Spotify wrapped 2025, this was in my top
- 18:19Speaker 2: five songs actually, Kehlani's
- 18:21Speaker 1: folded.
- 18:23Speaker 1: One song for last year, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 2: I think it was a throwback song like Bonnie and
- 18:27Speaker 2: Clyde by Beyonce or something like that. Because I heard
- 18:30Speaker 2: it somewhere and then I got, you know, once you
- 18:32Speaker 2: get an earworm and you get hooked on a song,
- 18:34Speaker 2: you need to listen to it multiple times. That's me
- 18:36Speaker 2: at least. So I think it was on loop for
- 18:38Speaker 2: a very long time. So it became like my top song.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Bonnie and Clyde from 2002, 200,
- 18:44Speaker 2: it's a massive tour. In fact, I only discovered that
- 18:47Speaker 2: song recently for some reason. I don't know why. I
- 18:49Speaker 2: never quite knew of that track.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Wait, wait.
- 18:53Speaker 2: No, I've always heard it. Like I've heard it and
- 18:56Speaker 2: I recognize it, but I never listened to it in full,
- 18:59Speaker 2: you know, so I think last year I was like,
- 19:00Speaker 2: oh man, like I love this song.
- 19:02Speaker 1: So what were you screaming in the club?
- 19:06Speaker 1: What you mean when you play that song?
- 19:07Speaker 2: I mean, some, some words can I say on air. Yes, sorry,
- 19:11Speaker 2: we don't play that song. It's a very, it's a throwback.
- 19:13Speaker 2: It's a major throwback.
- 19:14Speaker 1: All I need in this life is sin is me
- 19:17Speaker 1: and
- 19:17Speaker 1: my girlfriend.
- 19:18Speaker 2: OK, anyway, coming up right after 8 a.m.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Um, this may be extra relevant to you, especially if
- 19:26Speaker 2: you track everything in your life from fitness to sleep
- 19:31Speaker 2: to your steps. Do you do that? You do that, right?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Everyone's doing it now. Whether you're using the Apple Watch,
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Samsung watch, your aura rings or your what whoop.
- 19:41Speaker 2: band, yeah, there's so many things, right? So there are
- 19:44Speaker 2: many different ways of tracking your activity right now. But
- 19:48Speaker 2: how extreme can we be? I mean, I wear an
- 19:50Speaker 2: aura ring, you wear an Apple Watch. We both have
- 19:53Speaker 2: very different levels of fitness because clearly you work out
- 19:56Speaker 2: every single day. I haven't worked out since I came
- 19:58Speaker 2: back from Bali actually.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So very different activity levels, but um a very interesting
- 20:03Speaker 2: story popped up that got me wondering, are we overtracking
- 20:09Speaker 2: ourselves sometimes and are we too worried about our stats?
- 20:13Speaker 1: You know what, we are moving into a time where,
- 20:15Speaker 1: for example, you tell me some company comes up with
- 20:17Speaker 1: a small microchip that you can inject into your body
- 20:21Speaker 1: and it will track everything, your glucose.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Levels, your blood flow, the food that you
- 20:26Speaker 1: take in.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I won't even be surprised if it's a work in
- 20:28Speaker 2: progress right now.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I would not be surprised if people actually take it
- 20:31Speaker 1: up.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe it already exists just that they haven't gotten the,
- 20:34Speaker 2: you know, approval.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Even that, um,
- 20:37Speaker 2: your glucose monitor, right, that time you use that, what
- 20:39Speaker 2: you call that like a patch or something.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I call it a patch. It's a
- 20:42Speaker 1: patch,
- 20:42Speaker 2: right?
- 20:42Speaker 1: It's a painless one that will check your glucose levels.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I wanted to.
- 20:46Speaker 1: See whether was the cause of my hunger pangs at night.
- 20:50Speaker 2: A spike
- 20:51Speaker 1: was because of a low low blood sugar, yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 2: OK. Well, we'll get to this in just a bit
- 20:55Speaker 2: and open up phone lines for your final prize of
- 20:57Speaker 2: the week. Now, we were just discussing this because Joe
- 21:00Speaker 2: and I both, um, track our, our activities and our sleep, right?
- 21:05Speaker 2: For me, OK, activity not as much as Joel in
- 21:07Speaker 2: terms of, in terms of, um, intentional exercise.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I don't know whether is it above 30 thing where
- 21:13Speaker 1: suddenly you start tracking the amount of steps you do
- 21:15Speaker 1: per day, and I know that, OK, even in my
- 21:19Speaker 1: twenties when I used to have a polar watch I
- 21:23Speaker 1: would track my runs, like how fast I'm going, how
- 21:30Speaker 1: I like the big three was pola, Garmin, and
- 21:33Speaker 1: Chorus or Chronos, I got my name, my brand names wrong.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And then of course Apple Watch took over and then
- 21:39Speaker 1: Samsung Watch and all that to which I love the
- 21:41Speaker 1: Apple Watch, but also now.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I mean, tracking my sleep. I, I, I don't need
- 21:49Speaker 1: a sleep tracker to know that I'm having bad sleep, OK?
- 21:53Speaker 1: Every time I wake up in the middle of the night,
- 21:55Speaker 1: it's bad sleep already.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I, I have a theory for this, OK, but also
- 21:59Speaker 2: I think a lot of us do follow fitness or
- 22:02Speaker 2: wellness influencers or um.
- 22:05Speaker 2: You know, people out there that say like, oh, I
- 22:06Speaker 2: did this so that I can, you know, have a
- 22:08Speaker 2: better quality of life, and better sleep, and one of
- 22:10Speaker 2: the big names was actually Brian Johnson or is Brian
- 22:13Speaker 2: Johnson rather. He's like a biohacking person and he's got
- 22:16Speaker 2: a lot
- 22:17Speaker 1: of moneyimmune,
- 22:19Speaker 2: yes. So for years, he's been pushing and showing us
- 22:23Speaker 2: like how he
- 22:25Speaker 2: I don't know how else he's maxing his life.
- 22:28Speaker 2: He's just been doing a lot of things because he
- 22:30Speaker 2: has a lot of money.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I read something.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I don't know how true that was, but yeah, he
- 22:38Speaker 2: does experiment with a lot of things in tech and,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you know, health technology and all that to see how
- 22:43Speaker 2: to extend your life and, you know, build this, right?
- 22:45Speaker 2: And he does crazy things like, OK, I don't want
- 22:48Speaker 2: to call it crazy, but he does things like he
- 22:50Speaker 2: has to get a sleep score of 100, like all
- 22:52Speaker 2: the time, for example, which is virtually impossible. I don't
- 22:55Speaker 2: think I've ever had a sleep score of 100 ever.
- 22:58Speaker 1: The highest I got was 85.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's rare rare rare.
- 23:05Speaker 2: So it, it begs the question, right? Like, do you
- 23:08Speaker 2: think that sometimes we get too obsessed with tracking ourselves,
- 23:11Speaker 2: like you want to get the good score, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 2: that's what I realized when I started wearing my aura ring,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and this is not a paid promotion that they don't
- 23:17Speaker 2: even have a presence here in Singapore, um, but the,
- 23:21Speaker 2: the thing is, when you start to overtrack and you
- 23:24Speaker 2: start to get paranoid, like, oh, I must get at
- 23:26Speaker 2: least a score of 80 today, like, does that take
- 23:28Speaker 2: over your life?
- 23:29Speaker 1: If anything, what I want is the amount of calories
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm eating.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Without having to scan it and then key in myself, no,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I want like a one size fits all. Like for example,
- 23:39Speaker 1: if I'm wearing a pair of AI glasses and I
- 23:41Speaker 1: look at my tuna sandwich, it can immediately tell me like, oh, OK,
- 23:44Speaker 1: this is the amount of calories you're consuming right now.
- 23:46Speaker 2: A, you can ask them. I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 1: is it
- 23:48Speaker 1: really accurate? Like depends on the type of tuna I'm
- 23:51Speaker 1: using the sandwich I'm using.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So, you know, even a scan or a picture won't
- 23:56Speaker 2: be able to tell AI what tuna you're eating. That's
- 24:00Speaker 2: a lot. That's
- 24:01Speaker 1: a lot. I mean, you are tracking your sleep,
- 24:03Speaker 2: sleep and activity levels, I mean, and also, um, you know,
- 24:07Speaker 2: for women, like they have a cycle tracker as well
- 24:09Speaker 2: like on this app. Actually, there's a lot of things
- 24:11Speaker 2: that you can do and I do enjoy wearing it.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Still want to know.
- 24:15Speaker 1: And because he's such a big omnipresence on our show,
- 24:19Speaker 1: between you and Jeremy, he's the more fitness one, right? What,
- 24:21Speaker 1: what does he?
- 24:22Speaker 2: He wears an aura as well. Um, his sleep score
- 24:25Speaker 2: is always better than mine and so are his activity levels.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So on aura, you can actually see each other's scores.
- 24:33Speaker 2: So you can.
- 24:35Speaker 2: You can create a group with like friends or your
- 24:38Speaker 2: partner or your family, then everyone can see your scores.
- 24:41Speaker 2: So in a way, it's meant to help you like
- 24:44Speaker 2: keep up, you know.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We've gone from comparing exam results to comparing scores.
- 24:51Speaker 2: What is this? I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I see
- 24:53Speaker 2: score very jealous.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Honestly, I get, I get pretty jealous. I'm like I'll
- 24:58Speaker 2: text him and be like, so how was your sleep
- 25:01Speaker 2: last night?
- 25:02Speaker 1: That's a you problem. OK, let's keep it there. 669-11987
- 25:07Speaker 1: or WhatsApp us at 90050987. And
- 25:11Speaker 2: the question here is, do you track your activity and
- 25:14Speaker 2: your sleep? Do you feel like we're slowly becoming too
- 25:17Speaker 2: obsessed with tracking everything? Let us know. If you know
- 25:20Speaker 2: someone who's like that or maybe you're like that, hey,
- 25:23Speaker 2: join the club. Both of us are wearing tracking devices,
- 25:25Speaker 1: so in a way, humans are being tracked.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Without even knowing it sometimes. And
- 25:30Speaker 2: in another way, it seems like our competitive spirit, right?
- 25:34Speaker 2: Like who are competing against ourselves.
- 25:36Speaker 1: If we do like your, what's coming your way, a
- 25:38Speaker 1: very nice dining experience $100. They are celebrating 20 good
- 25:43Speaker 1: years in Singapore. Wunderbar.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Talking about tracking everything in our lives right now from
- 25:49Speaker 2: our to our steps to our calories, activity levels.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Do you think we're overdoing it?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Got a text
- 25:54Speaker 1: coming in from Megan right here on 987's WhatsApp 90050987. Hey, Soljo, yes,
- 26:01Speaker 1: my husband enjoys tracking everything while I don't because I'm
- 26:06Speaker 1: not sure where my info is going to, but I
- 26:09Speaker 1: do also realize that his life has gotten better ever
- 26:12Speaker 1: since he got himself the aura ring as well.
- 26:14Speaker 2: So, so that's the thing, right? Like because of
- 26:17Speaker 2: Our odd shift hours as well. Um, initially when I
- 26:21Speaker 2: started wearing the aura ring, it obviously told me everything
- 26:25Speaker 2: that I was doing wrong, right? Like I'm sleeping too late,
- 26:27Speaker 2: I'm not getting enough rest, like my deep sleep wasn't enough,
- 26:31Speaker 2: just a lot of things. So slowly as it calibrated
- 26:33Speaker 2: and I calibrated myself, that was when I was like, OK, ideally,
- 26:37Speaker 2: I have to wind down by 9:30 and be asleep
- 26:40Speaker 2: by 10 if it's possible, if it's possible.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Because it takes some time for you to actually fall asleep,
- 26:45Speaker 2: you know.
- 26:45Speaker 1: All
- 26:49Speaker 2: right. OK, hold on, just kidding my aura ring gives me,
- 26:52Speaker 2: this is not an ad for aura, by the way,
- 26:53Speaker 2: but it gives me encouragement sometimes, like when I had
- 26:56Speaker 2: bad sleep, right? It will literally give me um.
- 26:59Speaker 2: A summary of your scores and then it will say,
- 27:02Speaker 2: don't worry, you'll be fine. And I'm like, OK, this
- 27:05Speaker 2: is the affirmation I need.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Thank you. Can I read to you some of my
- 27:09Speaker 1: Apple Watch score results? OK, today's one is 62. Is
- 27:13Speaker 1: less than 5 hours of sleep.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Hey Joakim, you got less sleep last night and that
- 27:20Speaker 1: led to a score of 62. Yeah, I know. Hold on,
- 27:23Speaker 2: let
- 27:23Speaker 1: me
- 27:24Speaker 2: read
- 27:24Speaker 2: mine. Wait, wait, hold on. Hold on, hold on, hold on. OK,
- 27:27Speaker 2: let me read mine.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Oh, OK. Last night's sleep has given your body time
- 27:33Speaker 2: to recover. How's your energy level? Your readiness is 72
- 27:36Speaker 2: and your sleep is 81. Not too bad. Even though
- 27:39Speaker 2: I only slept, well, I only slept like 66 hours,
- 27:43Speaker 2: I think.
- 27:44Speaker 2: 6 hours, but my deep sleep solid, OK.
- 27:49Speaker 1: No,
- 27:49Speaker 2: I think it's just you can log it, I think,
- 27:52Speaker 2: I think it's just more of a rhetorical question. I
- 27:55Speaker 2: ask myself, how do I feel? I feel fine. Yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 2: that kind of thing, you know.
- 27:59Speaker 1: 669-11987. You can WhatsApp us at 9005087.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Talking about tracking every aspect of our life now, you know, it's,
- 28:08Speaker 2: it's about tracking your sleep, your steps.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Your calories, so many things, and we have so many
- 28:12Speaker 2: different types of tracking devices nowadays. We wanted to ask you,
- 28:16Speaker 2: do you feel like we've fallen into the trap of
- 28:19Speaker 2: over-tracking ourselves? Oh,
- 28:21Speaker 1: interesting
- 28:22Speaker 2: question. OK, uh, messages first. Got
- 28:24Speaker 1: a
- 28:24Speaker 1: text coming in from Angela. Hello, morning, Sojo. Speaking of tracking,
- 28:28Speaker 1: my boss is the one that is super health conscious.
- 28:31Speaker 1: He is quite data-driven, I would say because he tracks
- 28:34Speaker 1: his sleep data and analyze them.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Example, with and without no strips, tracks the HRV to
- 28:40Speaker 1: see if he's about to fall sick. During lunchtime, he
- 28:42Speaker 1: will take a photo of his food and upload onto
- 28:44Speaker 1: the chat GPT to track the calories. That said, all
- 28:47Speaker 1: the employees benefit because he shares his results with us.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I would think that the availability of these tracking devices
- 28:52Speaker 1: is becoming mainstream. It kind of allows us to be
- 28:56Speaker 1: our own researcher, therefore, the current trend. Yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 2: I mean, I don't disagree.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Um, there was one point in time where Jeremy was very, very,
- 29:04Speaker 2: very carefully tracking his food as well, to which I
- 29:08Speaker 2: did not dare to upload mine lah, because his is,
- 29:10Speaker 2: you know, high protein, clean eating. I'm like mee siam, laksa,
- 29:14Speaker 2: nasi lemak.
- 29:17Speaker 2: So, I think better not post mine.
- 29:20Speaker 1: One more coming in from Jay. Morning, Sojo. I was
- 29:23Speaker 1: wearing the Samsung watch and now the Apple Watch. I've
- 29:26Speaker 1: been obsessed with sleep and steps and MVPA tracking for
- 29:30Speaker 1: years until mid-June. As I had AIA Vitality, daily basis,
- 29:35Speaker 1: you hit 100 steps, you get certain points.
- 29:38Speaker 1: And when you work up for certain durations and meet
- 29:40Speaker 1: the MVPA, you get more points. Accumulating the points allows
- 29:44Speaker 1: you to redeem stuff like KrisFlyer points or even Starbucks
- 29:47Speaker 1: vouchers and etc. but I no longer have it as
- 29:49Speaker 1: I don't have personal policy with AIA
- 29:51Speaker 1: anymore. Oh,
- 29:52Speaker 2: what a waste. That sounded like a good deal, man.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Like encourage you to work out.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Reminds me
- 29:56Speaker 1: of the healthy 365. You wear the step tracker and
- 30:00Speaker 1: start walking. I remember there was one, was it a
- 30:02Speaker 1: national day?
- 30:03Speaker 1: Rally where our senior minister back then Prime Minister Lee
- 30:06Speaker 1: Hsien Loong, he was using the health checker as an example,
- 30:09Speaker 1: saying please wear to walk. Don't go and shake
- 30:12Speaker 2: doesn't work that way, right? Does it work that way? No, right? No.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Does it check your heart rate or it might, it
- 30:18Speaker 1: might, it might, yeah, OK. And I remember, I think
- 30:21Speaker 1: Senior Minister Lee used to wear a jawbone.
- 30:24Speaker 2: It's another tracking tracking thing
- 30:26Speaker 1: a long time ago.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'll never forget that um random campaign I did with
- 30:31Speaker 2: uh Mr. Pierre Peng actually of all people LT 365
- 30:36Speaker 2: can you not say that out loud? He knows peak
- 30:38Speaker 2: hour in the morning, you know what I mean like
- 30:40Speaker 2: people who don't know now know.
- 30:41Speaker 2: OK, Keith is on the line right now. Keith, what
- 30:44Speaker 2: do you think?
- 30:44Speaker 1: Yes, actually I'm a huge tracker myself. So like I
- 30:47Speaker 1: also have the Aura. I have the Aura Ring 3,
- 30:49Speaker 1: which is from like, I got it last year, um,
- 30:52Speaker 1: and then I also use like a rose was to
- 30:55Speaker 1: track out my workouts, but I think on the sleep
- 30:57Speaker 1: tracker I actually really, really enjoy it. Like I get
- 30:59Speaker 1: the stress of waking up and seeing, oh, you know,
- 31:02Speaker 1: it's sub 80 sleep score, your readiness score is not
- 31:05Speaker 1: as good. But over time I actually realized that that.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It's not the individual score, but the trend that really
- 31:13Speaker 1: helps me, right? So if I feel like, oh, you know,
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's been a few days of really bad sleep, it
- 31:18Speaker 1: just reminds me, you know, tonight, no doom scrolling, just
- 31:21Speaker 1: get to bed, get some sleep, and so I really
- 31:24Speaker 1: actually enjoy that sleep tracking. So Keith, has it improved
- 31:27Speaker 1: your way of life? It has, uh, changed my habits
- 31:30Speaker 1: in the sense where the last thing I think about
- 31:32Speaker 1: before I sleep is to wear my aura ring, um.
- 31:35Speaker 1: But I overall I do feel a little bit healthier.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Like I try to actually clock in more sleep because
- 31:40Speaker 1: Auraing is very interesting, right? It tells you how much
- 31:43Speaker 1: you're actually sleeping versus last time I'm like, oh, I
- 31:46Speaker 1: go to bed at 12, I wake up at 7
- 31:47Speaker 1: and 7 hours of sleep.
- 31:49Speaker 2: No, that's
- 31:50Speaker 1: it.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Exactly, exactly why I always feel like I never get
- 31:54Speaker 2: enough sleep. Here's my problem, OK. I know that the
- 31:57Speaker 2: moment I have a couple of glasses of wine or
- 31:59Speaker 2: beer or like I go out.
- 32:02Speaker 2: It ruins my score. So admittedly, you can admit to
- 32:05Speaker 2: me if you've done this before. I've intentionally not worn
- 32:08Speaker 2: my ring to bed before at 4 a.m. in the
- 32:10Speaker 2: morning because you know you will fail. I will fail badly.
- 32:14Speaker 1: That is so epic. Actually, I have a lot of
- 32:16Speaker 1: friends who do that as well because I'm like in
- 32:18Speaker 1: the industry, like when you go out and have drinks,
- 32:20Speaker 1: you know it's no way it's gonna be good. So
- 32:23Speaker 1: everyone's like, you know what,
- 32:24Speaker 2: instead
- 32:24Speaker 1: of waking up and demoralizing myself,
- 32:27Speaker 2: I will forget to wear it tonight too.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Talking about tracking every aspect of our lives now. Sleep, steps, calories,
- 32:34Speaker 2: you name it, we got it. You know,
- 32:35Speaker 1: for all the times we say, oh, must be careful lah.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I don't want my phone to track me. I don't
- 32:41Speaker 1: want my Safari or Google Chrome to track me whatsoever.
- 32:44Speaker 1: And then here we are readily giving our bodies information.
- 32:48Speaker 1: OK, to all the companies that own it, and what
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm worried about is, you know, all these like DNA
- 32:53Speaker 1: testing
- 32:54Speaker 2: reckon it's OK,
- 32:56Speaker 1: touch wood, OK, one day, for example, if Aura goes
- 32:59Speaker 1: broke and they have to sell the company away to
- 33:03Speaker 1: people to make back the money, right? What happens to
- 33:05Speaker 1: all our info?
- 33:07Speaker 2: I don't know. Good question.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and will go to an insurance company who has
- 33:12Speaker 1: access to all our information and then you start to
- 33:14Speaker 1: customize ads for our body and say,
- 33:17Speaker 2: yeah, so when it comes to tracking your day to
- 33:20Speaker 2: day things, right, it's not gonna tell you like, oh,
- 33:23Speaker 2: you're about to have a bad autoimmune disease. It's, it's
- 33:25Speaker 2: not gonna tell you that. I don't think it's the
- 33:27Speaker 2: ability to do that just yet. So I don't know.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I mean.
- 33:31Speaker 2: It could help like supplement companies, maybe. I'm not sure
- 33:37Speaker 2: completely about the info that insurance companies need. I, I
- 33:40Speaker 2: don't know whether this is like that.
- 33:43Speaker 1: You're gonna have a very out there. Um,
- 33:45Speaker 2: actually, um, once again, not sponsored. I bought it myself. Uh,
- 33:51Speaker 2: it actually tells you that you might be falling sick
- 33:54Speaker 2: based on like your body temperature, maybe like your breathing regularity.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Could you be coming down with a stuffed nose, like
- 33:59Speaker 2: these things, it can suggest that they could say, oh,
- 34:01Speaker 2: you're showing minor signs, so please take care of yourself
- 34:04Speaker 2: or load up on water or something. And more often
- 34:07Speaker 2: than not, it's true. Like sometimes when I wake up,
- 34:08Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I feel, I don't feel so good.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I cannot wait to see the type of tech we
- 34:12Speaker 1: have in 20 years, but anyway, can be quite scary.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Want to say good morning to Jesse who says this. Hey, Sojo,
- 34:18Speaker 1: I stopped wearing my Apple Watch after the battery deteriorated,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and I feel like.
- 34:23Speaker 1: My mental wellness has been better since I stopped knowing
- 34:27Speaker 1: if I meet standards, the 30 minutes of activity, the
- 34:30Speaker 1: 5000 to 10,000 steps in daily total, the 8 hours
- 34:33Speaker 1: of sleep, the anxiety of always wanting to complete the
- 34:36Speaker 1: daily requirements wears me down at times. I still do
- 34:40Speaker 1: regular physical activities consistently after I stopped tracking. I guess
- 34:44Speaker 1: tracking isn't the issue. It's what you do with the
- 34:46Speaker 1: track data or how do you behave after getting.
- 34:49Speaker 1: This data that matters more. Like me, I get anxious
- 34:52Speaker 1: with all the data, but like Sonia, she calibrates based
- 34:55Speaker 1: on the data she
- 34:56Speaker 1: receives.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. So I'm not taking it too seriously like 100%.
- 35:00Speaker 2: It's good to know, but I'm not gonna let it
- 35:02Speaker 2: take over my life, you know what I mean? So
- 35:04Speaker 2: that that's the way I approach it. There we go.
- 35:06Speaker 2: We're still taking your opinions and your stories in, by
- 35:08Speaker 2: the way, still time to read out a few more.
- 35:10Speaker 2: 90050987 is the number to text through. Do you feel
- 35:15Speaker 2: I feel like we could be over-tracking ourselves nowadays. Down
- 35:19Speaker 2: to our last couple of messages here talking about over-tracking
- 35:22Speaker 2: every bit of our lives, our calories, our steps, our sleep,
- 35:26Speaker 2: like what else can we track now moving forward. Um,
- 35:29Speaker 2: more messages coming through before we wrap it up.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Wanna
- 35:31Speaker 1: say good morning to username Auntie Jay. Hello on WhatsApp. Hello, Sojo.
- 35:36Speaker 1: I guess our natural tracking microchips are our parents.
- 35:42Speaker 1: True. Even if they're not physically around us, we can
- 35:45Speaker 1: imagine them nagging at us loudly in our heads. Have
- 35:47Speaker 1: you eaten? Are you sick? Do you see doctor? Go
- 35:50Speaker 1: and drink water. But also on the case of trackers,
- 35:53Speaker 1: maybe if the aura ring is embedded in a diamond
- 35:56Speaker 1: Tiffany ring, I'll consider. Wow,
- 36:02Speaker 2: actually, DJ, your taste, just want to fill you in, right.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Companies out there or designers out there who have started
- 36:07Speaker 2: accessorizing fitness rings. So as you know, Aura is not
- 36:10Speaker 2: the only fitness ring out there now, even though they
- 36:12Speaker 2: were the first movers, there are a lot of fitness
- 36:13Speaker 2: rings that came out. So, the, they've been actually designing,
- 36:17Speaker 2: some jewelry designers have been coming up with um little
- 36:20Speaker 2: accessories to attach to your ring, like they call it
- 36:22Speaker 2: a ring sleeve or something. So it actually
- 36:25Speaker 2: Turns your fitness ring into something really pretty, you can
- 36:28Speaker 2: consider it. But you confirm and I'm spending a lot
- 36:31Speaker 2: of money on
- 36:31Speaker 2: it.
- 36:31Speaker 1: So I'm proposing I know what to get.
- 36:36Speaker 2: So here's the thing, some people actually use the fitness
- 36:39Speaker 2: ring as their wedding band. Oh, that's great. But the
- 36:42Speaker 2: problem for me is my fingers are too small, so
- 36:44Speaker 2: I can't, can't do that.
- 36:47Speaker 2: It's a struggle. In fact, they came up with the
- 36:50Speaker 2: latest version, which is, I think, Aura ring 4, and
- 36:53Speaker 2: they did, they did not have my size. They stopped
- 36:57Speaker 2: at the size above me. I think nobody's buying the
- 36:59Speaker 2: small one.
- 36:59Speaker 1: So if you were to fling your arm, the ring.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so I didn't end up upgrading to the new version.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I'm sticking to the older one, which is the 3.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Do you play with it? I do, but I switch
- 37:09Speaker 2: it to my left finger. So many questions anyway.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Thank you for your stories, your messages, and your calls.
- 37:16Speaker 2: When we come back, one person is walking away with
- 37:19Speaker 2: the $100 experience thanks to our friends over at Broadside.
- 37:22Speaker 2: After a few beers, I suggest don't track your sleep
- 37:24Speaker 2: after that,
- 37:26Speaker 1: OK? Just or the pork knuckle or the mala schnitzel
- 37:28Speaker 1: that they have as well.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Oh, that sounds so good. Uh, all the tracking devices
- 37:32Speaker 2: are not going to stop me from enjoying life, OK.
- 37:35Speaker 2: In a responsible way. That's a good balance to both. Yes,
- 37:39Speaker 2: and we really appreciate your calls, your messages to catch
- 37:42Speaker 2: up with everything. It's on me, Listen and Spotify after
- 37:44Speaker 2: the show. Talked about whether or not we are over-tracking
- 37:47Speaker 2: our lives nowadays.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I got one final text coming in from username. Morning guys.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I don't check anything but for sleep. I try to
- 37:55Speaker 1: sleep by 10:00 p.m., but on Saturdays it's an all-nighter.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I don't track anything, but I check one thing, my dog.
- 38:02Speaker 1: I track how long he sleeps, what he eats, the weight,
- 38:05Speaker 1: the fat, the protein. If there's a tracker for dogs,
- 38:08Speaker 1: I might consider getting it for him. Kiasu dog mom
- 38:11Speaker 1: right
- 38:11Speaker 2: here. Very cool. Can I be your dog next time
- 38:13Speaker 2: in my next life? I mean, I would love a
- 38:16Speaker 2: person who cares so much about my well-being.
- 38:19Speaker 2: If I were a dog, what would I be? A
- 38:21Speaker 2: Chihuahua Doberman?
- 38:23Speaker 1: No. You're a
- 38:24Speaker 1: Chihuahua. I'm a doodle.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Hello, I'm a Doberman.
- 38:26Speaker 1: What's the noisiest dog breed? Chihuahua, right?
- 38:29Speaker 2: Actually, I don't know. I'm not noisy. I'm fierce.
- 38:32Speaker 1: It's the big, it's the big dogs that are just
- 38:35Speaker 1: peaceful with the whole leave me alone you small dogs.
- 38:41Speaker 2: This is becoming a whole different conversation. B, the big winner.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Tell me who's winning.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Great. Congrats to Jay winning our broadside dining experience.
- 38:54Speaker 2: OK, I'm gonna turn off your mic now. I, I
- 38:55Speaker 2: think that you need a therapist. OK, so we have
- 38:58Speaker 2: food and good news. So I'll start with the good
- 39:00Speaker 2: news
- 39:00Speaker 1: first. OK, yes, go.
- 39:02Speaker 2: You don't want to go good news? No,
- 39:04Speaker 1: no, good news. I will say the food news jingle
- 39:06Speaker 1: for food news. OK.
- 39:07Speaker 2: OK. There are about 1.5 million Singaporeans that are about to.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Get up to $850 in cash. Are you checking now?
- 39:18Speaker 2: In August of 2026, so next month, yeah, under the
- 39:23Speaker 2: GST voucher scheme. So I think also about 700,000 over
- 39:28Speaker 2: eligible Singaporean seniors, which I, is your mom considered senior yet?
- 39:33Speaker 2: Seniors is what above 65, is it?
- 39:36Speaker 1: I
- 39:36Speaker 1: don't want to offend anyone.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 39:38Speaker 1: She is in the Merdeka generation.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Merdeka senior is how old? I forgot already. Now we
- 39:43Speaker 2: got to check. OK, don't give me check. You check
- 39:45Speaker 2: while I continue. Um, so in terms of Singaporean seniors,
- 39:48Speaker 2: over 700,000 eligible seniors will receive up to $450 in
- 39:53Speaker 2: Medisave top-ups in August. So it's almost like Singapore's birthday.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Gift to us, but it's Singapore's birthday. OK,
- 40:01Speaker 1: uh, to anyone who's listening in, I respectfully say this.
- 40:05Speaker 1: According to the Singapore guidebook, a senior citizen is 65
- 40:10Speaker 1: years and
- 40:11Speaker 1: older.
- 40:11Speaker 2: So yeah, that's what I predicted. So my parents are seniors,
- 40:15Speaker 2: so
- 40:15Speaker 1: yeah, but, but don't
- 40:16Speaker 1: let that label you. If you feel young at heart,
- 40:18Speaker 1: if you
- 40:19Speaker 2: identify with the youth, you can hang out with us.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Anyway, so this is the good news I wanted to share.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Just check your eligibility. I think just log in with
- 40:28Speaker 2: your SingPass, you'll be able to see it there. Um,
- 40:30Speaker 2: you automatically receive your payments from the 7th of August.
- 40:33Speaker 2: If you've, um, already are aware or maybe you signed
- 40:36Speaker 2: up for some of these schemes, you'll be notified on
- 40:38Speaker 2: SMS
- 40:39Speaker 1: too. That and, don't forget to claim your CDC vouchers.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah,
- 40:43Speaker 2: I'm, I'm, I'm on it.
- 40:44Speaker 1: There we go, of course you are.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I love it. Honestly, every time I go to my
- 40:48Speaker 2: favorite Saipan shop, right?
- 40:50Speaker 2: Um, near my, near my place, yeah, it's it's always standard.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I just use my vouchers for that.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I'll ask you for some, uh, location, the Singaporean internet space.
- 41:06Speaker 1: So are you ready? Yes. Here
- 41:07Speaker 1: we go. Sing it.
- 41:12Speaker 2: And we're going to the idiotic internet space.
- 41:16Speaker 1: You might be right. Oh,
- 41:17Speaker 2: is it? Is it idiotic? I mean, if you are
- 41:20Speaker 2: new to our show, I actually usually when we do
- 41:22Speaker 2: this segment, I do not know what the border crime is.
- 41:24Speaker 1: If you think about it, the internet space here in
- 41:27Speaker 1: Singapore when it comes to the comment section can be
- 41:30Speaker 1: quite idiotic sometimes. silly. People don't read the full article.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But anyway, uh, look, a 40 year old man was charged.
- 41:39Speaker 1: In the courts here in Singapore for making fake bomb
- 41:43Speaker 1: threats to the HTX building and Parliament House.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I'm sorry, isn't HTX like a cybersecurity company? Exactly.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So the building where HTX is is right here at MediaCorp,
- 42:01Speaker 2: we know that.
- 42:02Speaker 1: So aside from making a bomb.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Threat to HDX. It's also affecting us here
- 42:05Speaker 2: at MediaCorp. You're a national broadcaster, yeah.
- 42:08Speaker 1: And then also he gave a bomb threat, a fake
- 42:11Speaker 1: one to Parliament House. So why is he,
- 42:13Speaker 2: is he mentally stable?
- 42:15Speaker 1: OK. So, so I'm, I'm reading the article. Apparently he
- 42:18Speaker 1: was telling the judge that the CEO of the American
- 42:21Speaker 1: AI firm Anthropic Dario Amodi was coming from San Francisco
- 42:26Speaker 1: to Singapore to help.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Check his computer whether there was anything wrong. Exactly. So again,
- 42:34Speaker 1: if you're thinking of having some fun on the internet space,
- 42:36Speaker 1: this is not what don't,
- 42:38Speaker 2: you should not be doing.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Please don't do this, OK? Don't, don't, don't waste your
- 42:42Speaker 1: life and waste your criminal record like that.
- 42:44Speaker 2: And you
- 42:44Speaker 2: also realize that, you know, the powers that be definitely
- 42:48Speaker 2: have the, they're equipped with the right tech to be
- 42:51Speaker 2: able to track you down.
- 42:52Speaker 2: OK, for, for maybe like normal folk like us, I
- 42:55Speaker 2: think it's very hard to track people like who leave
- 42:57Speaker 2: stupid comments on our, you know, accounts or whatever, but this, yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 2: rest assured they'll go down straight to the root of it.
- 43:03Speaker 1: So
- 43:04Speaker 1: whether in the comments section or if you think you're
- 43:06Speaker 1: hiding behind an anonymous burner account, remember, freedom of speech, yes,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but there's also consequences to what you say.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Absolutely. So be
- 43:15Speaker 1: extra careful.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Well, in the meantime, we got some Dua Lipa playing
- 43:19Speaker 2: Houdini right now. I think she's still having the time
- 43:22Speaker 2: of her life. Recently, I saw a couple of comparison
- 43:25Speaker 2: videos when she just started out with her dancing, and now, dude, I,
- 43:30Speaker 2: I vote her most improved artist of all time, man.
- 43:32Speaker 2: You're right. Coming up in just a bit, um, a
- 43:34Speaker 2: little bit of an adult update here, OK. What do
- 43:37Speaker 2: you mean? Adult update. What does this mean? Um, as
- 43:41Speaker 2: you know, there are, there are many different types of
- 43:43Speaker 2: nightlife here in Singapore.
- 43:45Speaker 2: One of which is maybe a kind of place where
- 43:47Speaker 2: you can actually purchase flower gardens, you know, flower gardens,
- 43:51Speaker 1: Yeah, OK,
- 43:52Speaker 2: Thai discos, yes, um, and it's, I mean, completely out there,
- 43:55Speaker 2: like people know of this, it's not like illegal or anything, right?
- 43:58Speaker 2: I mean,
- 43:58Speaker 1: otherwise,
- 44:01Speaker 2: yes, um, back then, like my friends and I used
- 44:03Speaker 2: to go there as teenagers because the chicken wings and
- 44:07Speaker 2: the beer towel were very cheap.
- 44:09Speaker 2: And they open till 7 a.m. I mean,
- 44:11Speaker 1: beggars can't we just go,
- 44:14Speaker 2: yeah, we just go for that reason, you know.
- 44:16Speaker 2: But in just a few minutes, um, find out a
- 44:19Speaker 2: little bit of a clarification or an update as I
- 44:21Speaker 2: would call it, OK, regarding tax matters when it comes
- 44:25Speaker 2: to these flower garlands, Joki. Who, who made you? I know.
- 44:30Speaker 2: I just saw this. It was posted last night and
- 44:33Speaker 2: I was like, you know what, let's talk about it.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Like we said earlier on, you know, there are many
- 44:37Speaker 2: types of nightlife here in Singapore, and this is a
- 44:40Speaker 2: place where we fondly call the Siam Teu last time,
- 44:44Speaker 1: right? I mean
- 44:44Speaker 1: Your pubs, your bars, your clubs, and of course your
- 44:47Speaker 1: Thai discos.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Yes, and here's what happened. Um, if you've been to
- 44:51Speaker 2: one of these, uh, places before, you would know that
- 44:54Speaker 2: there are flower garlands to be bought, right? And then
- 44:56Speaker 2: you can hang it on your favorite person. That's how
- 44:58Speaker 2: it works, OK? So this, this is just an update
- 45:02Speaker 2: here from our friends over at Iris. Nightclubs will now
- 45:05Speaker 2: need to properly record the revenue from flower garland sales
- 45:10Speaker 2: as part of your gross income.
- 45:12Speaker 2: So they also said, do not get creative with your
- 45:15Speaker 2: income reporting.
- 45:16Speaker 1: That's
- 45:16Speaker 2: what
- 45:17Speaker 1: they
- 45:17Speaker 1: just said. It's a reminder or a ruling it's a
- 45:21Speaker 2: reminder. It's a reminder. Although I feel like this is
- 45:24Speaker 2: one of the first times I've seen it like make
- 45:26Speaker 2: the news like that, you know.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It must be getting quite interesting out there for them
- 45:31Speaker 2: to be putting out a public
- 45:33Speaker 2: report.
- 45:33Speaker 1: OK, having been to Thai disco once or twice, I, I,
- 45:36Speaker 1: I don't really enjoy the concept of it. I think
- 45:38Speaker 1: I'm more of a live person, or, or maybe your
- 45:41Speaker 1: clubs like Marquee or whatsoever.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Yeah, uh, wow, some of these sashes and flower gardens
- 45:46Speaker 2: can go up to thousands,
- 45:48Speaker 1: the five-figure range.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I just wonder what sparked off
- 45:52Speaker 2: this reminder and this article like must be they caught
- 45:56Speaker 2: some establishment doing something kind
- 45:58Speaker 1: of, yeah,
- 46:00Speaker 2: it is, it is, and also.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I think for a lot of us who maybe have
- 46:05Speaker 2: income from other types of jobs or, you know, even
- 46:08Speaker 2: influencers and all that were in the spotlight, right, for, oh,
- 46:10Speaker 2: what about those products that you receive, for example, so
- 46:12Speaker 2: we also have to do our own tax-related filing on
- 46:15Speaker 1: the
- 46:15Speaker 1: topic of flower garlands, to declare, Sonia? Why,
- 46:18Speaker 2: why? Nobody ever gave me a gallon before, OK.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Which is a good thing.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I buy for you the
- 46:23Speaker 1: $1.01.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Thank you from from Daiso, right? Yes, thank you.
- 46:27Speaker 1: OK, uh, before we say goodbye, just want to say
- 46:31Speaker 1: next Monday it's a very big night for all of
- 46:34Speaker 1: us here in Singapore.
- 46:35Speaker 2: What's football related or not
- 46:37Speaker 1: exactly.
- 46:38Speaker 2: So something I can be involved in.
- 46:39Speaker 1: What you can also.
- 46:41Speaker 2: OK.
- 46:41Speaker 1: 10
- 46:43Speaker 1: million dollars up for grabs.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Oh, I see our other national sport. Yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I mean, it's kind of like a national sport, so
- 46:50Speaker 2: to speak, right?
- 46:51Speaker 1: Will you see me at work on Tuesday morning?
- 46:54Speaker 2: I think you will just to keep up appearances just
- 46:57Speaker 2: in case, yeah, but you might be flexing like a
- 47:00Speaker 2: diamond encrusted Rolex or
- 47:02Speaker 1: whether or not there will be signs though it's
- 47:07Speaker 2: up
- 47:07Speaker 1: to the universe maybe I buy a property over at
- 47:08Speaker 1: Dun house.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Or, or, you know, you rock up in a Maserati.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I know, I know you struck something already. No,
- 47:17Speaker 1: honestly, right, the last thing I will buy if I
- 47:20Speaker 1: win $10 million the last thing I will buy some
- 47:26Speaker 2: really be careful what you're saying. OK,
- 47:28Speaker 1: look, some of the colors on the Maserati are nice,
- 47:30Speaker 1: but some of you who really put interesting colors, right? Why?
- 47:34Speaker 1: But OK, I know you want the attention. Hopefully you
- 47:36Speaker 1: receive it from the right
- 47:37Speaker 1: people and not TP.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Actually, fun fact, um, if I'm not wrong, right, our
- 47:41Speaker 2: friends over at Ferrari, our friends, Ferrari actually has very
- 47:45Speaker 2: strict rules about the colors of the car. So if,
- 47:49Speaker 2: for example, you go and modify it too much, there
- 47:51Speaker 2: have been celebrities, right, who apparently, allegedly have been banned
- 47:55Speaker 2: from buying a Ferrari again because they modified it too
- 47:58Speaker 2: much and they put like graffiti on it and all
- 47:59Speaker 2: kinds of paint and stickers and stuff and they said, nope,
- 48:02Speaker 2: we don't want this.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Ferrari, you need me, I'm here.
- 48:06Speaker 2: This one basic. Just
- 48:07Speaker 1: give
- 48:07Speaker 2: him a red one will do.
- 48:09Speaker 1: The Lego Lego version.
