Speaker 4: Let's start of a newsroom bringing Jeff Jenkins. Jeff, good morning.
• 2:43
Speaker 4: We got two verdicts in two big court cases in
• 2:46
Speaker 4: the Mountain State yesterday, the Cochrane case in Raleigh County
• 2:49
Speaker 4: and again a little closer to the home of the
• 2:50
Speaker 4: White Feather Lance trial in the court room of Judge
• 2:52
Speaker 4: Acres and Charleston yesterday. Let's start briefly with the Cochran
• 2:55
Speaker 4: trial in Beckley, and then we'll move over to the
• 2:57
Speaker 4: White Feather Lance case. Probably they got all of the
• 3:03
Speaker 4: coverage here locally. Let's talk about the Cochrane trial though quickly.
• 3:05
  Speaker 4: What happened there?
• 3:06
Speaker 6: Okay, So a conviction for Natalie Cochrane, the Raleigh County pharmacist,
• 3:11
Speaker 6: former pharmacist who was convicted a couple of years ago
• 3:14
Speaker 6: in federal court for running a Ponzi's scheme. And then,
• 3:17
Speaker 6: as the investigation continues, investigate investigator said, you know, her
• 3:21
Speaker 6: husband died during this ponzi scheme in twenty nineteen, Michael Cochrane.
• 3:25
Speaker 6: He died five days after getting sex. So they started
• 3:29
Speaker 6: looking at that. They eventually charged her with murder of
• 3:33
Speaker 6: poisoning him with insulin. The charges that were at one
• 3:39
Speaker 6: time were thrown out. Then his body was exhumed again,
• 3:41
Speaker 6: they charged her again, but eventually got the trial right
• 3:44
Speaker 6: and so she was on trial for the last couple
• 3:47
Speaker 6: of weeks and she was convicted yesterday. After two hours
• 3:50
Speaker 6: of deliberating the case, the jury found her guilty of
• 3:53
Speaker 6: first degree murder. And it goes to show you, Dave,
• 3:56
Speaker 6: that you can get convicted on a circumstantial evidence case. Yes,
• 4:00
Speaker 6: a lot of evidence from the prosecution but all circumstantial,
• 4:03
Speaker 6: and they did not hide that. They said this is
• 4:04
Speaker 6: circumstantial evidence. They got a conviction. And so she's convicted
• 4:08
Speaker 6: now first degree murder, faces life in prison for the
• 4:12
Speaker 6: rest of her life unless this same jury today grants
• 4:16
Speaker 6: her mercy. So that's getting underway right now, the mercy
• 4:19
Speaker 6: phase of the trial. So the same jury will hear
• 4:22
Speaker 6: evidence from both the prosecution and the defense on why
• 4:26
Speaker 6: she suspend the rest of her life in prison or
• 4:27
Speaker 6: why she should have mercy, and so her kids will
• 4:30
Speaker 6: be on the stand, other supporters of her will be
• 4:32
Speaker 6: on the stand, pleading with the jury to give her
• 4:35
Speaker 6: fifteen to life, and then if that happened, she would
• 4:39
Speaker 6: be she would have a chance for parole fifteen years,
• 4:41
Speaker 6: no guarantee, just a chance for parole in fifteen years.
• 4:44
Speaker 6: If they decide against that, then she'll go to prison
• 4:46
Speaker 6: for the rest of her life. And that's what the
• 4:47
Speaker 6: prosecution will be pushing for.
• 4:49
Speaker 4: All right, let's bring it locally here for the White
• 4:50
  Speaker 4: Feather Lanstrom.
• 4:52
Speaker 6: Yeah, so I've been following this really since the arrest day.
• 4:55
Speaker 6: We're out there the day of the arrest October twenty
• 4:58
Speaker 6: twenty three, when when the two older children adopted children
• 5:03
Speaker 6: were found locked in that shed in the Systemville area.
• 5:06
Speaker 6: And then as the investigation continues and Debora Rosnik and
• 5:11
Speaker 6: Sheriff Crawford can expand on this too, you know, they
• 5:13
Speaker 6: kept finding more and more, they kept uncovering more, and
• 5:16
Speaker 6: the charges ended up to be double digit charges against
• 5:20
Speaker 6: Jenny K. White Feather and Donald Ray Lance of child trafficking,
• 5:26
Speaker 6: forced labor, civil rights violations, abuse, and neglact. And so
• 5:31
Speaker 6: we had a long trial about this relationship that these
• 5:34
Speaker 6: two had with their adopted kids who who are all black.
• 5:39
Speaker 6: And the jury convicted white Feather and Lance on all
• 5:44
Speaker 6: but four charge, all but four charges thirty one to
• 5:48
Speaker 6: thirty five, and the four chargers were Lance did not
• 5:51
Speaker 6: get convicted of the civil rights violation. There was testimony
• 5:56
Speaker 6: by some of the kids that he wasn't a racist
• 5:58
Speaker 6: and was able to convince the jury that he should
• 6:03
Speaker 6: not be charged the civil rights violations. But Genie white
• 6:06
Speaker 6: Feather got convicted online all nineteen charges. So they both
• 6:10
Speaker 6: face over one hundred years in prison each if all
• 6:13
Speaker 6: of these run consecutively. I mean, so you'll see, you know,
• 6:17
Speaker 6: Judge Akers will handle the sentencing coming up in March.
• 6:21
Speaker 6: But you know, the jury. This jury took about eight hours.
• 6:23
Speaker 6: There was a lot of you know, things to go through.
• 6:25
Speaker 6: They took about eight hours and then announced their decision
• 6:28
Speaker 6: before six o'clock last night.
• 6:30
Speaker 4: All Right, Jeff, great job by the news team. I
• 6:32
Speaker 4: know we had Morgan and Kat Skelton pretty much in
• 6:35
Speaker 4: the in the courtroom the entire time. A great job
• 6:37
Speaker 4: and pulling this off. And again we'll talk to Deb
• 6:38
Speaker 4: Rosney and Sheriff Joe Crawford about that a little bit
• 6:41
Speaker 4: later on the show. Thanks a lot, Joe. Okay, all right,
• 6:43
Speaker 4: a reminder for you, the vaccines are your best protection
• 6:45
Speaker 4: against severe disease from flu in COVID nineteen if you're
• 6:48

• 7:03
Speaker 4: Casey Sacks of Bridge Valley, Good morning and welcome to
• 7:06
  Speaker 4: the show.
• 7:07
Speaker 7: Hi, Dave, how are you today?
• 7:09
Speaker 4: I'm suffering, doctor Sachs, but you're not. But you're not
• 7:13
Speaker 4: that kind of doctor. So I don't think you can
• 7:15
Speaker 4: help me with a bad cold, can I mean, I'm going.
• 7:17
Speaker 7: To tell you to take a day quill.
• 7:19
Speaker 4: Okay, well, thank and then charge me one thousand dollars
• 7:22
  Speaker 4: for that advice.
• 7:22
  Speaker 8: All right.
• 7:22
Speaker 4: I appreciate free advice, free advice from a good all right,
• 7:26
Speaker 4: Well I am, and I've got a bunch of cough
• 7:28
Speaker 4: drops here in front of me right now too, in
• 7:30
Speaker 4: case I nearly choked to death like I did on
• 7:32
Speaker 4: the air yesterday morning. Thankfully I had Brian Dayton from
• 7:37
Speaker 4: the Chamber of Commerce in and I just kind of
• 7:39
Speaker 4: had to give him this little point and say, talk
• 7:41
Speaker 4: talk yesterday until I could get through it. But somehow
• 7:44
Speaker 4: we'll get through. You know, I don't feel bad at all.
• 7:46
Speaker 4: It's just a cold, is all it is.
• 7:49
  Speaker 7: People.
• 7:49
Speaker 4: Well, uh, one of at least one member of the
• 7:52
Speaker 4: team has already gotten it. But I think I think
• 7:54
Speaker 4: that she's probably the one that brought it to the building,
• 7:56
Speaker 4: and I won't throw her under the bus. I mentioned
• 7:58
  Speaker 4: her name, but.
• 8:00
  Speaker 5: There you go.
• 8:01
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 8:01
Speaker 4: So I know you love doctor Sacks to talk about
• 8:03
Speaker 4: your win academy, and recently you got some special recognition
• 8:07
Speaker 4: for the Win Academy. Explain what the Academy is and
• 8:10
Speaker 4: talk about the recognition that it got.
• 8:13
Speaker 7: So, the Win Academy is an early charter high school
• 8:15
Speaker 7: for students here in the area. We have students from
• 8:19
Speaker 7: as far away as Boone County who drive in every
• 8:21
Speaker 7: day so that they can have the experience. And it's
• 8:24
Speaker 7: college for students who are in their junior and senior
• 8:27
Speaker 7: year of high school, and they specialize. Most of our
• 8:29
Speaker 7: students want to go into nursing, some of them want
• 8:32
Speaker 7: to go into manufacturing. Some of them are going to
• 8:34
Speaker 7: change their mind and that's okay too. But it's one
• 8:37
Speaker 7: of the first charter schools here in West Virginia, and
• 8:39
Speaker 7: we've been recognized by National School Choice Week as one
• 8:42
Speaker 7: of just fifteen excellent schools across the country that are
• 8:46
Speaker 7: providing something unique to students.
• 8:49
Speaker 4: And that's certainly something to be proud of. Again, we're
• 8:52
Speaker 4: talking about doctor Casey Sacks of Bridge Valley. Understand kind
• 8:55
Speaker 4: of switching gear. Show that you've got a new business
• 8:57
  Speaker 4: up there.
• 8:58
Speaker 7: We do so up at the tech Park, there's lots
• 9:00
Speaker 7: of different businesses, not just the college, and so we're
• 9:03
Speaker 7: really excited that Teaspoons, a local caterer, has signed on
• 9:07
Speaker 7: at the Tech Park and they're currently in the space
• 9:10
Speaker 7: and providing breakfast and lunch five days a week. Come
• 9:14
Speaker 7: up and visit us and get something from Teaspoons. It's
• 9:16
Speaker 7: really a cute space.
• 9:17
Speaker 4: It's a great local business and the great to see
• 9:19
Speaker 4: them as part of the tech Park up there. Talk
• 9:21
Speaker 4: about this partnership that you are they have with your
• 9:23
Speaker 4: signing up nurses with WVU Medisine.
• 9:26
  Speaker 9: We do so.
• 9:27
Speaker 7: WVU Medicine is very interested in hiring healthcare professionals. They
• 9:32
Speaker 7: have said many times that they love our nurses, that
• 9:34
Speaker 7: we have a really high INCLEX that's the National Nursing
• 9:38
Speaker 7: Licenser Exam. We have very high INCLEX pass rates, higher
• 9:41
Speaker 7: than the state average, higher than many of our four
• 9:43
Speaker 7: year colleagues. And they love our nurses. And so they've
• 9:47
Speaker 7: started a program to hire nursing students while they're still students.
• 9:52
Speaker 7: So they pay them five thousand dollars a semester and
• 9:55
Speaker 7: then five thousand dollars when they graduate, so up to
• 9:57
Speaker 7: twenty five thousand dollars per student keep them in school.
• 10:01
  Speaker 7: It's not a tuition scholarship, it's a stipend. So that
• 10:04
Speaker 7: they'll stay students and they get guaranteed a job when
• 10:06
Speaker 7: they graduate. So they've done it every semester for the
• 10:09
Speaker 7: last couple of years and they just signed on another
• 10:12
Speaker 7: dozen last week. It was really a fun ceremony.
• 10:14
Speaker 4: That's good stuff. Again, we're talking about doctor Casey Sachson,
• 10:17
Speaker 4: Bridge Valley, the Dave aland showing five Any Live brought
• 10:19
Speaker 4: you a part by Morgan to Morgan with more than
• 10:21
Speaker 4: twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured,
• 10:24
Speaker 4: you deserve more. Morgan to Morgan is America's largest injury
• 10:27
Speaker 4: law firm. You had a fiftieth anniversary. You were telling
• 10:30
Speaker 4: me something to do with the dental Hygiene program. Talk
• 10:33
  Speaker 4: about that.
• 10:34
Speaker 7: So it's wild because Bridge Valley's only been around for
• 10:37
Speaker 7: eleven years, so for us to have a fiftieth year
• 10:39
Speaker 7: anniversary seems kind of strange. But the Dental Hygiene program
• 10:43
Speaker 7: is an associate's degree program that used to be part
• 10:45
Speaker 7: of Tech and then became part of Bridgemont, and then
• 10:48
Speaker 7: when Bridgemont and Canaw Valley merged eleven years ago, it
• 10:51
Speaker 7: became a Bridge Valley program and they've been going for
• 10:55
Speaker 7: the last fifty years. So last week. They just had
• 10:58
Speaker 7: a fifty year reunion. They did professional development for mini highgienists.
• 11:03
Speaker 7: Martha Shuldis, who is a local academic leader who since retired,
• 11:08
Speaker 7: came in and gave scholarships to several students. It was
• 11:11
Speaker 7: such a nice event. It was just such a terrific
• 11:15
Speaker 7: opportunity to get people together and do some professional development.
• 11:18
Speaker 7: It made you really proud to be part of the community.
• 11:21
Speaker 4: Doctor Casey Sacks Abridge Valley, It's always a pleasure to
• 11:23

Speaker 4: The verdict came down yesterday and the White Feather lancetraw
• 14:52
Speaker 4: here in Kadawa County. We'll talk to Kadah County Prosecutor
• 14:55
Speaker 4: Deb Rusnick and Sheriff Joe Crawford about that a little
• 14:57
Speaker 4: bit later on in the show. Quick programming note, I
• 15:00
Speaker 4: had Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau
• 15:03
Speaker 4: scheduled to be on the show this morning. Talked to
• 15:05
Speaker 4: Tim last night, and with the verdict coming down in
• 15:07
Speaker 4: the White Feather Lance trial, I felt I needed to
• 15:09
Speaker 4: talk to the prosecutor and the sheriff about that. So Tim,
• 15:12
Speaker 4: being the all around good dude that he is, offered
• 15:14
Speaker 4: to let me move him to tomorrow's show. So we'll
• 15:17
Speaker 4: have Tim from the CVB on tomorrow's show instead. Also tomorrow,
• 15:20
Speaker 4: Greg Thomas is here and Hannah Gardner from the Kenaal
• 15:22

• 15:35
Speaker 4: There is a new organization that is formed in West Virginia.
• 15:38
Speaker 4: Actually not a new group. I presume it's only new
• 15:41
Speaker 4: here in the Mountain State. They can correct me if
• 15:42
Speaker 4: I'm wrong. It's called the Log Cabin Republicans of West Virginia.
• 15:45
Speaker 4: Justin Hall as the president of the organization and also
• 15:48
Speaker 4: taking part in our segment today. Joshua Higginbotham, former legislator,
• 15:51
Speaker 4: someone who's been around the political game for some time,
• 15:53
Speaker 4: both with me this morning. Josh is here in studio. Josh,
• 15:56
Speaker 4: good morning, Well, very good morning to you. Dave and
• 15:58
Speaker 4: Justin via the Bigley Picked Lee Wiggly Hotline.
• 16:00
Speaker 3: Good morning, Justin, good morning, thank you for having us on.
• 16:05
Speaker 4: Thank you both for being here. Justin, I'm going to
• 16:06
Speaker 4: start with you, how did you get involved in this organization.
• 16:10
Speaker 4: Why do you feel that is important? What does the
• 16:13
Speaker 4: let me start over, what is the what's the mission
• 16:16
Speaker 4: statement of the group, the Log Cabin Republicans in West Virginia.
• 16:22
Speaker 3: The mission statement is to include people that are just
• 16:29
Speaker 3: happen to be Republican and are part of the LBGT
• 16:33
Speaker 3: group or allies, and to make sure that they have
• 16:40
Speaker 3: a voice. And of course, the Republican Party is the
• 16:43
Speaker 3: dominant party in West Virginia, and there's plenty of people
• 16:46
Speaker 3: already that are part of this group that are in
• 16:50
Speaker 3: support of these things, and it's important to have that voice.
• 16:54
  Speaker 4: Joshua.
• 16:54
  Speaker 15: Yeah.
• 16:55
Speaker 13: I'll also add to what Justin is saying. We're a
• 16:58
Speaker 13: five oh one C four nonprofit. The organization has been
• 17:01
Speaker 13: around for many decades nationally, and this is the first
• 17:04
Speaker 13: time that we've established this chapter in West Virginia. I
• 17:08
Speaker 13: think that President Trump's victory in November has really emboldened
• 17:11
Speaker 13: a lot of LGBT people to really show their support
• 17:16
Speaker 13: for people like President Trump. And I think that his victory,
• 17:21
Speaker 13: his resounding victory, really showed that LGBT people are welcome
• 17:26
Speaker 13: in the Republican Party. And there's a lot of people
• 17:28
Speaker 13: who in our community who are sick and tired of
• 17:31
Speaker 13: the woke leftist nonsense and they want to have a voice.
• 17:35
Speaker 4: I mean the example, Joshua, some of what you see
• 17:37
Speaker 4: is the woke nonsense.
• 17:39
Speaker 13: Well, I'll start with the border. So I think that
• 17:42
Speaker 13: with the invasion that we've seen over the last four
• 17:44
Speaker 13: years of literally millions of illegal migrants entering this country,
• 17:49
Speaker 13: that is the kind of policy that so many Americans
• 17:53
Speaker 13: and West Virginians are sick of, including a lot of
• 17:56
Speaker 13: LGBT people. You take other socialist policy is like universal healthcare,
• 18:02
Speaker 13: like higher taxes, this this woke green New Deal. There's
• 18:06
Speaker 13: so many different policies that a lot of LGBT people
• 18:09
Speaker 13: who are very conservative, a lot of us are very conservative,
• 18:14
Speaker 13: are are fundamentally against and we are we are tired
• 18:17
Speaker 13: of it. And that's why the log Cabin Republicans exist.
• 18:20
Speaker 4: Now justin I'm sure you would echo the comments that
• 18:24
Speaker 4: that Joshua just put out there, but sometimes I guess
• 18:28
Speaker 4: you think. I guess people tend to stereotype people. I know,
• 18:31
Speaker 4: shock right now, it's a shock that people would actually stereotype,
• 18:35
Speaker 4: but they think, well, if you're part of that community,
• 18:37
Speaker 4: then there's no way you can be a Republican. You
• 18:39
Speaker 4: can't be a conservative just and speak to that.
• 18:43
Speaker 3: Sure, there's no usually exclusive that you can obviously be
• 18:49
Speaker 3: for things like lower taxes, a second Amendment, these general
• 18:52
Speaker 3: principles that the Republican Party has in be part of
• 18:57
Speaker 3: this group. Gig let's the and bisection transgender uh. And
• 19:01
Speaker 3: that's why the Log Cabin Republicans are here. As far
• 19:06
Speaker 3: as that there there are sometimes some misnumbers. I mean
• 19:11
Speaker 3: Trump has had one or two weddings for Saint Sex
• 19:15
Speaker 3: couples at mar A Lago. He's of course appointed Rick
• 19:19
Speaker 3: Cornell in the previous administration, some in this one as well,
• 19:23
Speaker 3: who's openly gay. And Scott Besson, the new treasure was
• 19:28
Speaker 3: just confirmed too. And it's important to note that these
• 19:32
Speaker 3: people just happen to be gay, uh, and they are
• 19:36
Speaker 3: not selected because of that. It's just they just happen
• 19:39
Speaker 3: to be and they're the best qualified person for the job.
• 19:42
Speaker 3: And we're no matter what they're in the characteristics happen
• 19:48
Speaker 3: to be Josh, let.
• 19:49
Speaker 4: Me ask you this. There's been a lot of in
• 19:51
Speaker 4: the news here lates lately about the e I I mean,
• 19:55
Speaker 4: and the President spoken about it, Governor Morrissey has spoken
• 19:58
Speaker 4: about it. Where is I know you're not say, pokesperson
• 20:00
Speaker 4: for the organization, but where primarily does this organization fall
• 20:05
Speaker 4: on issues like DEI.
• 20:06
Speaker 13: Well, again, we do support President Trump and Governor Morrissey wholeheartedly.
• 20:12
Speaker 13: In terms of specific policies like DEI the log cabin,
• 20:16
Speaker 13: Republicans favor a merit based system. Whoever is the most
• 20:21
Speaker 13: qualified person for a job in our state government and
• 20:24
Speaker 13: in our federal government should get that job. In eight
• 20:27
Speaker 13: characteristics like race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin. We should
• 20:32
Speaker 13: not discriminate on those bases, but we definitely should not
• 20:36
Speaker 13: favor people because they're from a minority group. Discrimination is
• 20:40
Speaker 13: bad and it can go both ways. So we are
• 20:44
Speaker 13: entirely in favor of a merit based system.
• 20:48
Speaker 4: Josh eggenbothamme and Justin Holler here from the log Cabin
• 20:51
Speaker 4: Republicans to Day Islands Show in five Any Live is
• 20:53
Speaker 4: brought to you part by Husbands Pizza this month as
• 20:55
Speaker 4: your favorite Hustans in large eight and inch Pepperoni pizza
• 20:57
Speaker 4: and any pizza Bowl twenty two ninety nine. He's Hustan's
• 21:00
Speaker 4: for delivery, puck up or diying in a Husbands Pizza
• 21:02
Speaker 4: dot Com. Josh has been a regular on the show
• 21:04
Speaker 4: in the past. Justin, this is your first time here
• 21:06
Speaker 4: and people that listen to the show will know. Josh
• 21:09
Speaker 4: can tell you that we get a lot of texts
• 21:11
Speaker 4: to the show, so Josh was always up to bat
• 21:13
Speaker 4: ready to take some You're ready for some texts? Absolutely, Texas.
• 21:16
Speaker 4: How can LGBT people support a party who has a
• 21:20
Speaker 4: majority of members who don't think they should be able
• 21:22
Speaker 4: to marry someone of the same sex, Well, I.
• 21:25
Speaker 13: Disagree with that person. So there was a Fox News
• 21:28
Speaker 13: poll conducted a couple of years ago that showed fifty
• 21:30
Speaker 13: five percent of Republicans in this country support marriage equality.
• 21:35
Speaker 13: I think personally that number is actually higher because I
• 21:39
Speaker 13: think that there are generational differences. If you talk to
• 21:43
Speaker 13: most people under the age of fifty, almost all conservative
• 21:49
Speaker 13: and Republican young people under that age, the vast majority
• 21:53
Speaker 13: are perfectly fine with it. It's just not an issue
• 21:55
Speaker 13: that I think most voters, even Republican voters, care about.
• 22:00
Speaker 13: Twenty years ago, that would have been a different story.
• 22:02
Speaker 13: But I do think that generationally it has it has changed,
• 22:05
Speaker 13: and that change has been brought on by President Trump,
• 22:07
Speaker 13: who is supportive of marriage equality.
• 22:10
Speaker 4: Do you think the change has been brought on by
• 22:12
  Speaker 4: President Trump.
• 22:13
Speaker 13: I think it's a mix between the generations taking a turn,
• 22:18
Speaker 13: and you know, millennials and Gen Z voters now are
• 22:21
Speaker 13: a majority. But I also think that President Trump really
• 22:25
Speaker 13: contributed to that. He was elected in twenty sixteen in
• 22:29
Speaker 13: favor of gay marriage. Barack Obama in twenty eight and
• 22:33
Speaker 13: in twenty twelve ran opposed to gay marriage publicly, and
• 22:37
Speaker 13: Trump did not. He's in favor of it.
• 22:39
Speaker 4: I think we're also getting to a place in America,
• 22:42
Speaker 4: where you have more people that are like I am,
• 22:44
  Speaker 4: that just simply don't care. I don't It's none of
• 22:48
Speaker 4: my business. I just I don't care what you do exactly.
• 22:52
Speaker 4: Maybe that's a las fair attitude, but I.
• 22:54
Speaker 13: Just like, yeah, and I think that's where most people are, all.
• 22:57
Speaker 4: Right, justin I had a text here along those same lines,
• 23:00
Speaker 4: But I'll let you answer it. How can someone be
• 23:03
Speaker 4: supportive of President Trump went on day one by executive order,
• 23:06
Speaker 4: he rolled back protections for LGBTQ individuals.
• 23:13
Speaker 3: Yes, the Log Cabin Republicans again believe in a very
• 23:19
Speaker 3: merit based system with that in as far as any
• 23:25
Speaker 3: executive orders that may have been concerned of the national
• 23:31
Speaker 3: if we see an issue, they're going to look at
• 23:33
Speaker 3: that and we'll speak to that national organization.
• 23:37
Speaker 13: And President Trump has had a very open door policy
• 23:40
Speaker 13: with the Log Cabin Republicans. He has taken meetings, he's
• 23:44
Speaker 13: hosted events. I actually went to mar A Lago a
• 23:47
Speaker 13: couple of years ago and he was the keynote at
• 23:50
Speaker 13: the Log Cabin gala that we had at mar A Lago.
• 23:53
Speaker 13: We even presented an award to First Lady Milania Trump.
• 23:57
Speaker 13: She spoke out in favor of our our national organization.
• 24:01
Speaker 13: So he's had a very very open door policy. And
• 24:05
Speaker 13: I'll remind you of just how far both parties have
• 24:09
Speaker 13: come in the last twenty years. And there's been a
• 24:13
Speaker 13: lot of progress in recent years.
• 24:15
Speaker 4: But Dave aland showing five any Lie brought to you
• 24:17
Speaker 4: apart by JUTE for the best and security systems for
• 24:19
Speaker 4: both your home or business. Talk to JUTE. Otays Valley
• 24:21
Speaker 4: vis are protected by JUW dot Com. Got to ask you,
• 24:25
Speaker 4: where does the name log cabin Republicans come from?
• 24:28
Speaker 13: Well, you know, Abraham Lincoln, who was one of the
• 24:30
Speaker 13: founders of the Republican Party and he was the first
• 24:33
Speaker 13: Republican president, was born in a log cabin, and so
• 24:36
Speaker 13: we are basing our history as an organization off of
• 24:41
Speaker 13: the history of the Republican Party, and we did that
• 24:44
Speaker 13: in honor of former President Abraham Lincoln.
• 24:47
Speaker 4: Tex says, I think most moderate Republicans couldn't care less
• 24:50
  Speaker 4: who people marry.
• 24:51
Speaker 13: I agree, I agree. I think the majority of the Republicans, conservative,
• 24:56
Speaker 13: moderate and libertarian don't care.
• 24:58
  Speaker 2: But there are.
• 24:59
Speaker 4: People, I mean, Josh, I mean, you know, I know
• 25:02
Speaker 4: they're there are people, especially in West Virginia, that this
• 25:05
Speaker 4: is going to fly directly in the face of in
• 25:08
Speaker 4: in their in their their belief systems. Because West Virginia
• 25:12
  Speaker 4: tends to be a little bit I don't. I don't
• 25:14
Speaker 4: will say behind the times because it looks like I'm
• 25:16
Speaker 4: judging people, but but we don't. We're not always adept
• 25:19
Speaker 4: to change like other states are.
• 25:21
Speaker 13: We are an older state by population, and I think
• 25:24
Speaker 13: you do see some social values that are reflected by
• 25:27
Speaker 13: our demographics. But I think that that is changing as well. Yeah,
• 25:32
Speaker 13: some people will be offended, they can be offended. We're
• 25:35
Speaker 13: We're not advocating for or against any specific policies. We're
• 25:38
Speaker 13: not This is not a pack, we're not electioneering. We're
• 25:42
Speaker 13: not trying to get people elected. We are focused on
• 25:44
Speaker 13: education and informing the Republican Party and the LGBT community
• 25:48
Speaker 13: and trying to build those bridges between between the two groups.
• 25:53
Speaker 13: And and I think it's pretty telling you're not not
• 25:55
Speaker 13: to personalize this at all. You know, I got almost
• 25:59
Speaker 13: sixty thousand Republican votes last year in the election. I
• 26:02
Speaker 13: got three times as many votes as Mac Warner, twice
• 26:04
Speaker 13: as many votes as Chris Miller, gentleman who I love
• 26:08
Speaker 13: and I have great respect for, and I did that
• 26:12
Speaker 13: as an openly gay man in West Virginia, and I
• 26:15
Speaker 13: think that the majority of voters even here in West
• 26:17
  Speaker 13: Virginia don't care.
• 26:19
Speaker 4: Texas. These guests are both hypocritical and ignorant. They have
• 26:22
Speaker 4: a besmirched Lincoln's legacy. They might want to do some
• 26:26
Speaker 4: reading about Abraham Lincoln. Then I'll just leave it at that. Well,
• 26:29
Speaker 4: there you go, there you go.
• 26:31
Speaker 13: I'll let whoever said that have that opinion.
• 26:34
Speaker 4: That's fine. So I mean you said that you're not
• 26:37
Speaker 4: out trying to get candidates elected, gas or anything like that.
• 26:39
Speaker 4: But I mean, what's the next year look like for you?
• 26:42
Speaker 4: I mean, are you going to be at the capitol
• 26:43
Speaker 4: doing the session or what do you plan on doing?
• 26:45
  Speaker 16: Oh?
• 26:45
Speaker 13: Absolutely, yeah, yeah, So we're we're going to be at
• 26:47
Speaker 13: the Capitol just meeting with legislators. Again, we're not focused
• 26:51
Speaker 13: on any bills. That's not the purpose of this organization.
• 26:54
Speaker 4: But could it, But could it become that at some
• 26:56
Speaker 4: point though? I mean, if there's something on the agenda
• 26:58
Speaker 4: that comes out that maybe get your interest that you're
• 27:01
Speaker 4: strongly in favor of, are strongly opposed.
• 27:03
Speaker 13: To, well, if anybody at the Capital asks for our opinion,
• 27:08
Speaker 13: then I'm sure that our members may have an opinion
• 27:11
Speaker 13: and be willing to share that, but our priority is
• 27:14
Speaker 13: just to inform and educate legislators, voters, and the LGBT
• 27:19
Speaker 13: community as a whole about this organization and that there
• 27:24
Speaker 13: are plenty of gay conservatives like Justin and myself.
• 27:28
Speaker 4: Justin, I appreciate you being here, making your first time
• 27:31
Speaker 4: on the show. Hope it won't be your last time.
• 27:32
Speaker 4: Josh as a regular here, he's on from time to time.
• 27:35
Speaker 4: What message do you want to leave the listeners with
• 27:37
  Speaker 4: this morning?
• 27:38
Speaker 3: Justin, Yes, just a little bit, but not too personal.
• 27:43
Speaker 3: But since I've moved back to my home stage two
• 27:47
Speaker 3: years ago, which I have absolutely loved, I've had no
• 27:51
Speaker 3: issues at all. I'm open, I have a relationship and
• 27:55
Speaker 3: that who I am and everything, and you know, planning
• 27:59
Speaker 3: a wedding and all of that, and I've had no issues.
• 28:03
Speaker 3: I'm very upfront with the Vineyards. Have had no issues
• 28:05
Speaker 3: at all with anybody having an issue with it, not
• 28:09
Speaker 3: wanting to do business or anything like that. It's been
• 28:12
Speaker 3: a very positive experience and in general, people just don't care.
• 28:16
Speaker 3: They're happy for us, and that's that.
• 28:18
Speaker 4: Joshua, Yeah, same thing.
• 28:20
Speaker 13: I'm also planning a wedding, not to Justin someone else,
• 28:25
Speaker 13: and Justin as a friend. He's getting married in April,
• 28:28
Speaker 13: and I'll be at the wedding, and I plan to
• 28:30
Speaker 13: invite him to my wedding next year, same exact thing.
• 28:33
Speaker 13: The vast majority of people here are warm, welcoming, inviting,
• 28:37
Speaker 13: and I'm going to invite all the listeners today to
• 28:40
Speaker 13: follow us on Facebook, follow us on x and take
• 28:45
Speaker 13: a look at our social media. We will be active,
• 28:48
Speaker 13: and we will be in all fifty five counties at
• 28:50
Speaker 13: different Lincoln dinners, at the legislative session, and of course
• 28:55
Speaker 13: in the media too.
• 28:56
Speaker 4: If I invited to your wedding, of course, what kind
• 28:59
Speaker 4: of food we have, I don't know yet. That's all.
• 29:02
  Speaker 4: That's all. It's important to me. I don't care what's
• 29:04
Speaker 4: going on on the stage. I just want to eat.
• 29:06
Speaker 13: Yeah, weddings are the food at the weddings are the
• 29:09
  Speaker 13: best part.
• 29:10
Speaker 4: All right, all right, Yes, I appreciate you being here, Justin.
• 29:13
Speaker 4: Thank you for making make it time to be with
• 29:15
Speaker 4: this morning. Joshua's always a pleasure to see you as well.
• 29:17
Speaker 4: I appreciate you guys, Thanks a lot, Thanks Dave. All Right,
• 29:20
Speaker 4: we're gonna take a break when we come back, We're
• 29:22
Speaker 4: going to go back to the courtroom. Well, the trial
• 29:24
Speaker 4: is over now, but now we'll wait the sentencing of
• 29:28
Speaker 4: Jeanie Whitefeather and Donald ray Lance in that horrific case
• 29:32
Speaker 4: here in Kanawha County. The trial wrapped up yesterday's you
• 29:34
Speaker 4: heard Jeff saying, we're going to talk to Conawa County
• 29:36
Speaker 4: Prosecutor Deb Brusnick and Sheriff Jill Crawford about that case
• 29:40
Speaker 4: and about what happened in the courtroom yesterday. We'll be
• 29:42
Speaker 4: back right after this on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

• 32:19
Speaker 4: I mean, in the era of COVID what we had
• 32:21
Speaker 4: a couple of years ago, it's like you can't get
• 32:23
Speaker 4: a cold anymore. People still just get simple colds. You know,
• 32:27
  Speaker 4: I don't I don't have a I don't have a

Speaker 4: fever or anything like that. But now you know, you

• 32:46
Speaker 4: People get them, you know, they do get colds. We
• 32:49
Speaker 4: knock out a couple of texts here and we're going
• 32:50
Speaker 4: to be joined by Prosecutor Deb Brusney can also share
• 32:53
Speaker 4: Joe Crawford about the sentencing not the sentenzing I should
• 32:56
Speaker 4: say with the guilty verdict and the White Feather Lance
• 32:58
Speaker 4: trial yesterday, UH text says homosexual behavior is ab normal
• 33:01
Speaker 4: and actually nasty. Tex says I would never attend a
• 33:04
Speaker 4: homosexual waiting. Homosexuals can't actually get married according to the
• 33:07
Speaker 4: original definition of what marriage is. Tex says, we live
• 33:12
Speaker 4: in a world where your kid cannot pretend to be
• 33:14
Speaker 4: an Indian, but a grown man can pretend to be
• 33:16
Speaker 4: a woman. Sex says these log cabin liars pretend it's
• 33:21
Speaker 4: okay to be gay or transgender, but only if you
• 33:23
Speaker 4: are age eighteen or older and hide it from everyone
• 33:26
Speaker 4: if you're under eighteen. The purpose of a log cabin
• 33:28
Speaker 4: Republicans is to take money and to pay their executives.
• 33:31
Speaker 4: That's it, Texas. The Speaker of the House is a
• 33:34
Speaker 4: fundamentalist Christian, As are a lot of members of the
• 33:36
Speaker 4: House and the Senate, and a few Supreme Court justices.
• 33:40
Speaker 4: I'm not LGBT, but I can see which way the
• 33:43
Speaker 4: wind is blowing, says a texture tex says Dave. The
• 33:46
Speaker 4: last time I checked, this is a free country. People
• 33:48
Speaker 4: can live how they choose to live. As a text. Yesterday,
• 33:53
Speaker 4: in the courtroom of Judge Mary Clair Akers here in Charleston,
• 33:56
Speaker 4: Donald Ray Lance and jen A Genie Whitefeather were found
• 33:59
Speaker 4: guilty of thirty one three thirty five Council was a
• 34:01
Speaker 4: horrific crime and quite frankly, some gut wrenching testimony over
• 34:04
Speaker 4: the last couple of weeks of prosecuting the case was
• 34:06
Speaker 4: Deb Rosney cause she joined us in studio along the
• 34:08
Speaker 4: Nawak Cauddy's Sheriff Joe Crawford, Prosecutor Rosney, good morning, welcome
• 34:12
  Speaker 4: to the show.
• 34:12
Speaker 16: Good morning, thank you for having me.
• 34:14
Speaker 4: And Sheriff Crawford also a pleasure to have you here
• 34:16
Speaker 4: as well. Thank you, Dave for having us appreciate it.
• 34:19
Speaker 4: Everyone will start with you. You know, cases like these are
• 34:23
Speaker 4: are are never easy. And you were just elected, you know,
• 34:27
Speaker 4: as the Canawa County prosecutor and you know, straight out
• 34:30
Speaker 4: trade out. I know you've had other cases obviously, but
• 34:32
Speaker 4: this is the one that garnered all the headlines, your
• 34:35
Speaker 4: first big case that garnered the headlines. I guess you
• 34:37
Speaker 4: would say at least one of them. Anyway. That testimony though,
• 34:42
Speaker 4: that came out of that of that trial was just surreal,
• 34:46
Speaker 4: to to say the least.
• 34:49
  Speaker 16: It absolutely was.
• 34:50
Speaker 19: You know, when you have any child that is a
• 34:53
Speaker 19: victim and a case, it's going to be heart wrenching,
• 34:56
Speaker 19: it's going to be hard. But when you have children
• 34:59
Speaker 19: who are victimized to such a degree, I mean really,
• 35:04
Speaker 19: it takes a place in your heart and your mind
• 35:07
Speaker 19: that really drives you to want to get justice for
• 35:11
Speaker 19: those children and to make the people who perpetrated these
• 35:15
Speaker 19: crimes upon them to pay for that.
• 35:18
Speaker 4: And Sheriff Crawford, you've been in the law enforcement game
• 35:20
Speaker 4: for a long time now, right.
• 35:22
Speaker 11: Yes, sir, about thirty eight thirty nine years.
• 35:24
Speaker 4: And I know You've seen a lot of horrific crimes,
• 35:26
Speaker 4: but this is probably not that you want to rank them,
• 35:28
Speaker 4: because these are humans we're talking about. But this has
• 35:30
Speaker 4: got to rank right up there, absolutely.
• 35:32
Speaker 11: And I think, Dave, what's the most important thing is
• 35:36
Speaker 11: you see something, say something. We were fortunate, you know,
• 35:40
Speaker 11: with the witnesses and the neighbors in that neighborhood. They
• 35:43
Speaker 11: saw something, they said something, We responded, and you know,
• 35:47
Speaker 11: our men and women from road patrol up through the
• 35:50
Speaker 11: detective euro that worked the case. We can't say enough
• 35:54
Speaker 11: about how that transparent came together. And I think it's
• 35:59
Speaker 11: a team effort. I think deb would probably agree that
• 36:03
Speaker 11: when when you put your resources together and you come
• 36:05
Speaker 11: together and you get this this kind of result, I think, Uh,
• 36:10
Speaker 11: I think it says a lot about the the men
• 36:12
Speaker 11: and women that we have uh working for us, and
• 36:15
Speaker 11: then the the neighborhood and the community coming together saying
• 36:19
  Speaker 11: saying something.
• 36:20
Speaker 4: You know something that that my wife actually brought up
• 36:23
Speaker 4: to me last night. We were talking when I was
• 36:26
Speaker 4: going back and forth texting people and trying to get
• 36:28
Speaker 4: you know you guys lined up to be on the show.
• 36:30
Speaker 4: She pointed out something that I didn't think of that's
• 36:32
Speaker 4: what spouses are good for sometimes, you know. She she,
• 36:34
Speaker 4: she woint out to me something about, Uh, this couple
• 36:40
Speaker 4: are not from this area. Has been pointed out by
• 36:42
Speaker 4: several people that they chose to live here in the
• 36:44
Speaker 4: Sistantville area. They're not from this area, but they have
• 36:48
Speaker 4: there's reason. Let me just say this, I don't want
• 36:50
Speaker 4: to say too much get myself sued here. There is
• 36:52
Speaker 4: reason to believe that maybe this behavior wasn't exclusive to
• 36:55
Speaker 4: West Virginia, that it may have gone on in in
• 36:58
Speaker 4: other areas. If that is the case, what does it
• 37:01
Speaker 4: say that the West Virginia people were the ones that
• 37:03
Speaker 4: got involved. If if that's the case, the West Virginia neighbors,
• 37:07
Speaker 4: as Sheriff Crawford said, they're the ones that came forward
• 37:11
Speaker 4: and said, hey, something's not right here.
• 37:13
  Speaker 16: That's absolutely correct.
• 37:15
  Speaker 15: You know.
• 37:15
Speaker 16: I think evidence in the trial.
• 37:16
Speaker 19: Evidence came out in the trial that did indicate that
• 37:19
Speaker 19: this was not exclusive to West Virginia and that these
• 37:22
Speaker 19: children had lived a life with crimes being perpetrated upon
• 37:27
Speaker 19: them in multiple states. But I do think that at
• 37:32
Speaker 19: the end of the day, had it not been for
• 37:34
Speaker 19: our community and the relationships that West Virginians have with
• 37:38
Speaker 19: their neighbors. Then I don't think we ever would have
• 37:42
Speaker 19: known what was really happening with these children. And thank god,
• 37:46
Speaker 19: thank god they called in because they saved those children absolutely.
• 37:49
Speaker 4: And you we're talking with the Kenowg County prescut or
• 37:51
Speaker 4: dead Brosny coldhare of Joe Crawford about the decision that
• 37:54
Speaker 4: was rendered yesterday. It was thirty thirty one or the
• 37:57
Speaker 4: thirty five countsils of what it was.
• 37:59
Speaker 16: It was a count in diet.
• 38:00
Speaker 19: Okay, okay, I think each definite I think Definite white
• 38:04
Speaker 19: Feather had sixteen don't quote me on that convictions and
• 38:09
Speaker 19: Definite Lance had twelve convictions and it's correct.
• 38:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, and either way, neither one of them is going
• 38:14
Speaker 4: to be seeing the light of day anytime said it.
• 38:16
Speaker 16: Doesn't it doesn't look like it.
• 38:17
Speaker 19: Of course, we can't speak for the court and how
• 38:20
Speaker 19: the court will sentence. But the maximum exposure that Definite
• 38:23
Speaker 19: white Feather was facing was two hundred and fifteen years,
• 38:26
Speaker 19: and then yesterday we did some calculations that were not accurate,
• 38:31
Speaker 19: so it went back and double checked, and it looks
• 38:34
Speaker 19: like it's more up to one hundred and forty years
• 38:37
Speaker 19: maximum exposure for Donald Lance. So Originally, I think we
• 38:41
Speaker 19: had indicated it was going to be seventy five years.
• 38:43
Speaker 19: It's actually one hundred and forty years.
• 38:45
Speaker 4: But Dave Alan showing five Venue Life brought to you
• 38:47
Speaker 4: a part by Pinnacle Consultants. Their lead Painted Inspection Risk
• 38:49
Speaker 4: Assessment services are designed to identify it to assess the
• 38:52
Speaker 4: presence of lead based paint in buildings and other structures
• 38:55
Speaker 4: using a three phase approach of inspection sampling. The lab
• 38:57
Speaker 4: analysis had an assessment report visipan dot net. Because what
• 39:01
Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt your prosecutor. How important was
• 39:04
Speaker 4: the testimony of the kids?
• 39:06
  Speaker 16: It was vitral.
• 39:08
Speaker 19: It was vital because the jury needed to hear from
• 39:12
Speaker 19: them what happened to them. And that's not something that
• 39:16
Speaker 19: any attorney. And albeit Madison Tuck and Chris Ravagnac put
• 39:20
Speaker 19: on a case that it was unmatched. They did a
• 39:25
Speaker 19: brilliant job at presenting the evidence. But had they not
• 39:28
Speaker 19: had the testimony of those children to substantiate the allegations,
• 39:33
Speaker 19: to really explain what happened and what they had survived,
• 39:36
Speaker 19: I don't know that we would have gotten the outcome
• 39:38
  Speaker 19: that we did.
• 39:40
Speaker 4: It's I mean, this is one of those cases and
• 39:42
Speaker 4: I've been in media for almost thirty seven years. That
• 39:45
Speaker 4: and kind of piggyback and what I said to you,
• 39:48
Speaker 4: Sheriff Crawford, about how you see these cases and things
• 39:51
Speaker 4: just stick out in your mind and the image. And
• 39:53
Speaker 4: I didn't follow the trial as closely as what our
• 39:56
Speaker 4: news team did, but I mean just the images of
• 39:58
Speaker 4: that of the of the of the shed and the barn,
• 40:00
Speaker 4: and the way that they were allegedly forced to use
• 40:05
Speaker 4: the well. I say use the restroom, there wasn't a restroom.
• 40:07
Speaker 4: I mean just horrific, for lack of a better.
• 40:10
Speaker 19: Term, absolutely horrific. In fact, the night that I took
• 40:14
Speaker 19: Detective Pole called me. It was very very late, maybe
• 40:17
Speaker 19: two o'clock in the morning, and Detective Pole called me
• 40:19
Speaker 19: and explained the situation that we were encountered with.
• 40:23
Speaker 16: I didn't know how to react.
• 40:24
Speaker 19: I didn't know that this was something that people really
• 40:28
Speaker 19: could do to someone else, especially a child. And she
• 40:33
Speaker 19: and I sat down on and we really tried to
• 40:35
Speaker 19: talk through it, and fortunately.
• 40:37
Speaker 16: We got the team together.
• 40:39
Speaker 19: And we were able to get it charged the way
• 40:42
Speaker 19: it needed to be charged and get the convictions that
• 40:44
  Speaker 19: we needed.
• 40:45
Speaker 4: And that's important in the world of legal lees. Is
• 40:49
Speaker 4: getting the charges right. Because you can obviously as a
• 40:52
Speaker 4: prosecutor or even you know, as whether you're an attorney,
• 40:55
Speaker 4: anybody involved with the legal system, you can say, Okay,
• 40:59
Speaker 4: this is what it is. But you got to get
• 41:01
Speaker 4: the wording rights to make sure that everything that you
• 41:05
Speaker 4: get through the result that you desire.
• 41:07
  Speaker 16: Absolutely.
• 41:08
Speaker 19: And one thing we focused on and we were kind
• 41:11
Speaker 19: of disappointed to learn, is the state of West Virginia
• 41:13
Speaker 19: does not have any statute that addresses torture. And that's
• 41:19
Speaker 19: what these children they experienced. They were tortured. And so
• 41:24
Speaker 19: to be able to take all of the facts that
• 41:26
Speaker 19: we had in front of us and find crimes that fit,
• 41:30
Speaker 19: you know, that's our job.
• 41:30
Speaker 16: And that's what we did.
• 41:31
Speaker 19: And I have to commend my team in the Sheriff's apartment.
• 41:34
Speaker 19: I mean, had the Sheriff's apartment not presented us with
• 41:38
Speaker 19: the evidence we needed and had my office and my
• 41:42
Speaker 19: attorneys not stepped in and said let's figure out what
• 41:45
Speaker 19: really fits here and what we can do, I do
• 41:47
Speaker 19: not believe we would have gotten the outcome.
• 41:50
Speaker 11: And I think we're in uncharted territory too, because these
• 41:54
Speaker 11: charges are not it's not common. Charge is broad in
• 41:58
Speaker 11: the state system see some of these charges brought fatherly,
• 42:03
Speaker 11: but I think this may be one of the first, uh,
• 42:06
Speaker 11: because the statutes are fairly new. I don't know when
• 42:08
Speaker 11: they were passed, but I know they are fairly new statutes.
• 42:12
Speaker 11: And when you sat down, you you put the team together,
• 42:14
Speaker 11: and you're trying to look at all the elements of
• 42:17
Speaker 11: based on the evidence that you have. I mean, there
• 42:19
Speaker 11: was a lot of a lot of prep work, a
• 42:21
Speaker 11: lot of work that went in behind the scenes getting
• 42:24
Speaker 11: this thing ready and making sure we we got we
• 42:27
Speaker 11: got it right. And I think this is one example
• 42:30
Speaker 11: when you set down and you have that team working together,
• 42:33
Speaker 11: bringing bringing the charges that need to be brought. And
• 42:36
Speaker 11: you know, some some some people may have not thought
• 42:39
Speaker 11: that the elements or the evidence was strong enough to
• 42:42
Speaker 11: maybe to prove some of it. But UH, hats off,
• 42:46
Speaker 11: uh too to to the prosecutor's office and.
• 42:49
Speaker 4: Our men and women for bringing a case. I think
• 42:51
  Speaker 4: it's a good case.
• 42:52
Speaker 11: I think when you look back at it, UH, you'll
• 42:55
Speaker 11: probably see other cases probably brought, uh maybe as a
• 42:59
Speaker 11: result of this and getting that information out. Obviously, we
• 43:04
Speaker 11: think it's one of the first cases tried on these statutes.
• 43:07
Speaker 16: I do I believe, and I could be wrong.
• 43:10
Speaker 19: I do believe this is the first human trafficking conviction
• 43:14
  Speaker 19: in state coordinationwide.
• 43:15
Speaker 16: Do not quote me on that, but I do believe that.
• 43:18
Speaker 4: Is the case. And you mentioned about that West Virginia
• 43:21
  Speaker 4: doesn't have a for lack of but a term a
• 43:23
Speaker 4: torture statute. A lot of legislators listen to this show.
• 43:27
Speaker 4: Are you listening? Legislators? Are you listening? Speaker and Senate President,
• 43:31
Speaker 4: so on and so word. Maybe it's time we get there.
• 43:33
Speaker 19: Yes, yes, I think it is, And I think I
• 43:35
Speaker 19: would be happy to sit down and talk about this
• 43:37
Speaker 19: case with anyone who would be willing to hear out
• 43:42
Speaker 19: you know, the facts of this case and help us
• 43:44
  Speaker 19: find some.
• 43:44
Speaker 16: Sort of legislation to get it.
• 43:48
  Speaker 13: You know.
• 43:48
Speaker 19: Ultimately, yes, we got a conviction, and we got convictions
• 43:52
Speaker 19: on charges that fit, but I think it could have
• 43:54
Speaker 19: been so much more had we had some sort of
• 43:58
Speaker 19: legislation for something like torture.
• 44:02

Speaker 4: says Dave. This is why we need to get a
• 48:34
Speaker 4: handle on the foster kids and our states. Some are
• 48:37
Speaker 4: not going to school. The state doesn't know where some

Speaker 4: of these kids are and it's out of control. Says

• 48:51
Speaker 4: How you doing. I'm well, I'm well.
• 48:53
Speaker 8: Lot a lot of news this morning, lot going on.
• 48:56
Speaker 4: I missed it to Jeff yesterday. I don't know that
• 48:59
Speaker 4: at one time and Virginia we had two high profile
• 49:03
Speaker 4: cases like the Cochrane case in Beckley and the White
• 49:05
Speaker 4: Feather and Lance case here in Kadala County that got
• 49:08
Speaker 4: national attention. I mean the Cochrane case was was streamed
• 49:11
Speaker 4: on court television and the White Feather and Lance trial,
• 49:14
Speaker 4: and talking to Prosecutor Rusnic, it looks like there may
• 49:17
Speaker 4: have been some some some precedents set here for some
• 49:21
Speaker 4: of these for some of these cases. I mean, you
• 49:23
Speaker 4: don't want to have these sort of things, and you
• 49:25
Speaker 4: know that's not the kind of focus you want on
• 49:26
Speaker 4: your state. But nonetheless, we had two major cases that
• 49:31
Speaker 4: were coinciding, you know, running running parallel to each other,
• 49:34
Speaker 4: and then we get we get decisions yesterday, you know.
• 49:37
Speaker 8: Yeah, and I don't recall that either, that you bring
• 49:39
Speaker 8: that up, that we have them in parallel at the
• 49:41
Speaker 8: same time. Of course, we'll talk with deb again on
• 49:44
Speaker 8: talk Line coming up at ten oh six, along with
• 49:46
Speaker 8: the sheriff. But in the Cochrane case today, you know,
• 49:49
Speaker 8: that went straight to sentencing, So they're they're in the
• 49:51
Speaker 8: sentencing phase today. And what I'm told is that her
• 49:54
Speaker 8: kids will take the stand to advocate for mercy, but
• 49:57
Speaker 8: the parents of her now deceased husban and will take
• 50:01
Speaker 8: the stand for the prosecution and very much go the
• 50:04
Speaker 8: other way. So that'll be interesting to see what happens
• 50:08
Speaker 8: today is that sentencing hearing from Mercy unfolds.
• 50:11
Speaker 4: So what else you got on the show today?
• 50:13
Speaker 8: So again we talked about We're gonna have a Deborah
• 50:16
Speaker 8: and Joe back to talk coming up at ten twenty three.
• 50:18
Speaker 8: We'll talk about yesterday's accident at Reagan National dig into
• 50:23
Speaker 8: that with Ryan Schmels. He is on the scene on
• 50:26
Speaker 8: site in Washington. We'll talk with him ten thirty three.
• 50:28
Speaker 8: David Goldberg from Van Dandia Health joins us, they've got
• 50:32
Speaker 8: an intermed lab project and if you're like me, I
• 50:34
Speaker 8: didn't know what that was. I had to look it up.
• 50:36
Speaker 8: It's basically a medical incubator. They're extending that down into Charleston.
• 50:41
Speaker 8: They already have it going in Morgantown. So we'll talk
• 50:43
Speaker 8: with them and the Goat at eleven six. It's Hoppy Thursday,
• 50:48
Speaker 8: Hoppy as I like to call it, and he opines
• 50:52
Speaker 8: today at wv metronews dot com with his weekly commentary
• 50:56
Speaker 8: about the fact that the House of Delegates will be
• 50:59
Speaker 8: doing a way if the rule revision stands with public hearings.
• 51:03
Speaker 8: You know, we're used to seeing a public hearing in
• 51:05
Speaker 8: the House where you know, thirty people can come up
• 51:08
Speaker 8: and get their minutes or their minute and a half,
• 51:10
Speaker 8: whatever time allows, and have their say. That's not going
• 51:15
Speaker 8: to happen. It's all part of the restructuring that Speaker
• 51:17
Speaker 8: Hanshaw has going on. Hoppy says, that's a good thing.
• 51:21
Speaker 8: I will play Devil's Advocate with him and argue as
• 51:24
Speaker 8: to why I think that practice should continue, just to
• 51:28
Speaker 8: make it, you know, fun. I can't agree with Hoppy
• 51:29
  Speaker 8: on everything.
• 51:30
Speaker 4: There is a lot. There are a lot of people
• 51:32
Speaker 4: though that have said that they don't think it's a
• 51:33
Speaker 4: good thing. So I'm gonna have to have to weigh
• 51:36
Speaker 4: in on that myself at some future point. Go back
• 51:38
Speaker 4: and study it, all right, TJ. I appreciate you man,
