- 0:22Speaker 1: live from studios in New York, Idaho, and Michigan.
- 0:25Speaker 2: This is.
- 0:26Speaker 1: TrekCast, the galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast. Today on
- 0:33Speaker 1: the show, we're going to talk about Season 4, Episode
- 0:35Speaker 1: 10 of Strange New Worlds, Tomorrow's Enterprise. Plus, we've got
- 0:41Speaker 1: Star Trek news and your listener feedback. I am Scott
- 0:46Speaker 1: Bauters with Dan Lombardo. And now, he is trying to
- 0:50Speaker 1: see if there is any hope for Star Trek by
- 0:53Speaker 1: talking to his future self, Daniel Reyes.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 1:00Speaker 3: What's future Daniel say? Yes. Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Are you the Daniels?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Is that what it is? Because it's plural.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It's plural.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 1: There's two of them.
- 1:15Speaker 3: There's two of me. Yes.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 1:19Speaker 1: We need to get Archer in here.
- 1:20Speaker 2: You know, what's really funny is I've been watching the
- 1:22Speaker 2: Zindi season recently.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Really? Okay. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Just out of the blue, I started watching it.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I actually finished it the same day that Stranger Worlds ended.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So I watched both season finales at the same time,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you know, same day.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Which is better.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Oh, Zindi, for sure.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:41Speaker 2: But it's weird how they both had time travel. They both,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you know, it was a serious finale. It was kind
- 1:47Speaker 2: of funny to compare the two.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Wow.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Daniels, yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Well, yeah, how are you guys doing? What's been going on?
- 1:58Speaker 3: I got my first autumn cold, so that's fun.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's going around, man.
- 2:05Speaker 3: You know, if I sound all bassy, extra bassy. Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 3: If I sound extra bassy and snotty and you see
- 2:13Speaker 3: me mute the mic, that's probably so I could clear
- 2:17Speaker 3: something out, you know? Yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 1: That's funny. I was just telling Daniel just before you
- 2:22Speaker 1: came on, before the show, that... I've been under the
- 2:25Speaker 1: weather for the last two weeks and I just, uh,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, a little bit of a, uh, nothing big deal.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Just a little bit. I thought it was a cold
- 2:32Speaker 1: and I had a, uh, just a regular checkup at
- 2:35Speaker 1: the VA, uh, on Friday. And I told, uh, my, uh,
- 2:39Speaker 1: primary care provider, which is a friend of mine, uh,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Andrea deployed with her and she's like, um, had a
- 2:45Speaker 1: little bit of cough. I said, yeah. And, uh, she
- 2:47Speaker 1: listened to my lungs. She's like, I'm going to send
- 2:48Speaker 1: you down to a radiology, get a chest x-ray. Okay. Uh,
- 2:53Speaker 1: long story short. Pneumonia. I've had pneumonia. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Nice.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Oh, man. That's no good.
- 2:59Speaker 3: So you could check that off your 2026 list.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I guess I can.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Pneumonia. Check.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:09Speaker 1: No big deal.
- 3:12Speaker 3: You know, whatever. Yeah. I spent the day in the
- 3:15Speaker 3: hospital yesterday. My dad got sick, got taken to the hospital.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, he's 77 years old, so he's getting to
- 3:25Speaker 3: that age.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Is he doing better now?
- 3:30Speaker 3: He's got a heart surgery scheduled in the near future.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Those are rough. Yeah, they were going to do it today,
- 3:38Speaker 3: but they're like, no, we want to address the fluid
- 3:42Speaker 3: in your lungs first. We want to address your suboptimum
- 3:47Speaker 3: performing kidneys first. So you're... You're going to live here
- 3:51Speaker 3: now for.
- 3:52Speaker 2: A little while. I've been there.
- 3:54Speaker 3: It sucks, dude. Yeah. I'm supposed to go away tomorrow
- 3:59Speaker 3: for a week for work. And it's like the place
- 4:04Speaker 3: I'm going is not close.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I know.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 4:07Speaker 3: We'll see if I'm actually going.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Everybody here will be pulling for your dad.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Whenever Dan says he has a cold, I get PTSD
- 4:13Speaker 3: for him thinking it was COVID. Yeah. Yeah. That was
- 4:17Speaker 3: the TrekCast crossover episode.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That's right.
- 4:21Speaker 3: We had David on that episode.
- 4:24Speaker 2: TrekCast Generations, I guess?
- 4:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:26Speaker 2: That was a fun show.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Not a fun time.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Not a fun time, but a fun show. You've got
- 4:35Speaker 2: to find the joy where you can find it.
- 4:39Speaker 3: That was that time that I blew through Tiger King
- 4:42Speaker 3: in one day. Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Man, Tiger King was such a stamp in time. It
- 4:50Speaker 2: was only then, and that's now. That's it.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Yep.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 2: All right. Well, I hope it goes well with your dad, man.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's rough.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Yep.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Well, on that hard turn, should we get to the news?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Didn't mean to.
- 5:03Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. It's going to be all
- 5:07Speaker 1: pathetic and sad.
- 5:08Speaker 3: For the rest of the show. Hey, who opened the airlock?
- 5:09Speaker 3: Dan did. That's right. Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That's right.
- 5:12Speaker 1: All right, here we go.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Star Trek News.
- 5:16Speaker 2: All right, so our first news story comes to us
- 5:18Speaker 2: from Deadline, and we are learning more about the Paramount-Warner
- 5:24Speaker 2: Brothers merger that seems to be going ahead, except for
- 5:29Speaker 2: one minor speed bump. So let's watch what's going.
- 5:34Speaker 1: On with them.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I hate that bumper.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's the worst.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It's like just... Just merge already so we can stop
- 5:47Speaker 3: with the bumper.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no doubt. So, yeah, so basically a judge
- 5:53Speaker 2: right now is putting a little bit of a delay
- 5:56Speaker 2: on the settlement. The judge wants to hear some briefings
- 6:01Speaker 2: from all the parties involved with the lawsuits. Just wants
- 6:07Speaker 2: to know, you know, is this going to be actually
- 6:09Speaker 2: good for the industry if we let it go through?
- 6:12Speaker 2: If not, Um, as I don't know if you guys
- 6:15Speaker 2: have heard, but, uh, Paramount has conceded to making like
- 6:19Speaker 2: 30 movies a year per, uh, starting next year, which is,
- 6:25Speaker 2: I don't know how they're going to pull that off.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Cause right now as it sits, I think between Warner
- 6:30Speaker 2: brothers and Paramount, they only have 35 movies ready to go.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And there's what to do. 30 movies, you know, between each.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Cage is ready to go.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So I, I have, uh, I have an inside source. Oh, yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And my source has informed that the judge, the judge
- 6:52Speaker 3: is one of us.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Oh.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And what he wants to know, he says, these movies,
- 6:58Speaker 3: Prime or Kelvin, that's what he wants to know before
- 7:01Speaker 3: he'll approve this deal.
- 7:02Speaker 2: That's right.
- 7:03Speaker 3: And Star Trek Legacy, when is it happening?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:07Speaker 3: So that's the holdup.
- 7:09Speaker 2: That's the holdup. Yes, of course.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I wish. God, could you imagine? Could you imagine if
- 7:15Speaker 3: this guy's one of us and he just comes in
- 7:18Speaker 3: in the ninth inning and he's like, I got this. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Let's make Star Trek great.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so. Well, that's all we need is for people
- 7:30Speaker 1: to be wearing hats to make Star Trek great again.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Standing outside what used to be the Academy or what
- 7:38Speaker 2: will be.
- 7:38Speaker 6: Yeah. All right.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Well, so they got to follow some briefs, but it's
- 7:43Speaker 2: still going to go through. It's just a slight delay.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So, okay.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Our next news story comes to us from Variety. And
- 7:55Speaker 2: I don't know if you're planning to go to this, Dan,
- 7:57Speaker 2: but New York City Comic Con is right around the corner.
- 8:00Speaker 2: And it looks like Grandpa's going to be there. William Shatner.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Oh. Yeah. Oh, my.
- 8:08Speaker 3: He will be there.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Um, also some of the stars.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Is he going to look like that?
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 2: He's going to, he's not, he's going to run through
- 8:17Speaker 2: Academy's makeover machine.
- 8:19Speaker 3: That's it. Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And then he'll, he'll look great. No, I can't. Some
- 8:23Speaker 2: of the stars from Academy season two will be there.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And so, yeah, not going.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yes. Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So they'll, they'll have quite a few panels for Star Trek. Um,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I think, yeah, this happens, uh, October 10th. So there
- 8:38Speaker 2: you go. If you're planning to go to Comic-Con in
- 8:40Speaker 2: New York, you'll get some Star Trek.
- 8:42Speaker 1: You know, when you're William Shatner's age and you make
- 8:46Speaker 1: plans for any more than about 14 days out, that's brave.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Well, did you see the... I posted it in our group.
- 8:56Speaker 2: He also released a statement just a few days ago
- 8:59Speaker 2: saying that he wasn't going to do anything for Kirk
- 9:01Speaker 2: unless it was good, basically. Okay. And that's because there
- 9:05Speaker 2: was a rumor that Uh, the, um, the strange two
- 9:09Speaker 2: worlds team had tried to reach out to him and
- 9:12Speaker 2: we're trying to get.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Them on board.
- 9:13Speaker 2: And he was just like, yeah, it wasn't good. So
- 9:14Speaker 2: I wasn't there. Oh, well, yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He's got a bit of Trek clout.
- 9:19Speaker 2: So a little bit, a little bit, you know, that's
- 9:21Speaker 2: gotta be a tough one.
- 9:22Speaker 3: He's also, he's also 80 something years old. So even
- 9:25Speaker 3: if he's only, yeah, 90. So even if he's only
- 9:28Speaker 3: got like six grand in the bank, he's got enough
- 9:31Speaker 3: money to last him the rest of his life. Right. Literally. Right. Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:36Speaker 2: In our last news story comes from popular science and
- 9:39Speaker 2: this is one actually we've been tracking since the early
- 9:41Speaker 2: days of trek cast but do you remember there was
- 9:43Speaker 2: a uh they found a model of the enterprise that
- 9:46Speaker 2: was screen used and it was on ebay yeah well
- 9:51Speaker 2: now that's finally headed to mit so it'll be on
- 9:55Speaker 2: display at the mit museum it's just an 11-inch model.
- 9:58Speaker 2: But there it is. You can see it right there.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So it's on its way. It will be on display.
- 10:04Speaker 2: It's kind of neat. It goes from eBay to MIT.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It's like the structural integrity of Field is gone. Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, hey, well, morning, fellow Trickcasters. Looking forward to
- 10:16Speaker 2: seeing your guys' prediction results.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 10:19Speaker 2: It's going to be bad.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I can only imagine.
- 10:22Speaker 2: It's going to be bad.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 2: There you go. That's the Star Trek news. There's not
- 10:27Speaker 2: a lot going on right now.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Anything else you guys want to bring up before we
- 10:31Speaker 2: get into it? No?
- 10:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Well, let's do it.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Fun will now commence.
- 10:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 10:41Speaker 3: So full disclosure. Yeah. I pseudo-watched this episode.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Oh.
- 10:46Speaker 3: How so? Well, I watched it at work. Okay. Yeah. So,
- 10:50Speaker 3: I mean, I was doing other shit while I was
- 10:52Speaker 3: doing it. So I heard the whole episode. I was,
- 10:56Speaker 3: you know, glancing.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Glancing back. I probably missed, if there's like Easter eggs
- 11:03Speaker 3: in the background, like I guess there's a cat lady
- 11:05Speaker 3: in the background. Yeah, and one of the bird people. Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 2: But they were there.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I have some good things to say about this particular episode.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah, go for it.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Do it.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Don't hurt yourself.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Well, okay, I have to rate this episode, but I
- 11:21Speaker 1: have to give a rating on two different scales, okay?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Well, we should say this is called Tomorrow's Enterprise. This
- 11:27Speaker 2: is the season finale of season four.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yep. I would give this a six... For a Star
- 11:35Speaker 1: Trek episode, I would give this a six and a
- 11:37Speaker 1: half out of ten.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:39Speaker 1: For a Star Trek Strange New Worlds season four episode,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I would give this a solid 9.5 out of ten.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Well, the overall... score from fans is a 7.4.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Out of 10. So, yeah.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So this was a, this was a good episode.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Jacob says this is a great end to a bad season.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It was a great end.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 1: So just, just to, just.
- 12:02Speaker 3: To recap a little bit, they're, they're studying a black hole. Uh,
- 12:07Speaker 3: on the other side.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 3: On the other side. No, they're, they're studying a white
- 12:10Speaker 3: hole on the other side. Uh, the enterprise from a
- 12:14Speaker 3: year from now is studying a white hole or black hole.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I don't know. The, there's two enterprises, one from right now,
- 12:20Speaker 3: one from a year from now, they're both studying the
- 12:23Speaker 3: same astronomical phenomenon from opposite sides. Uh, the two Ahoras
- 12:29Speaker 3: become linked. They can communicate with each other. Uh, a
- 12:32Speaker 3: year from now, Scotty is dead. So they're, they're basically
- 12:36Speaker 3: working to prevent Scotty's death. They're working together. Ahoras working
- 12:40Speaker 3: with herself to prevent Scott. Um, Pike is obviously the
- 12:43Speaker 3: captain of our enterprise. Uh, Kirk is the captain of
- 12:47Speaker 3: the enterprise. So we get into the enterprise a year
- 12:52Speaker 3: from now. We see that some things have changed such
- 12:55Speaker 3: as uniforms and hairstyles, and they're very much in line
- 12:58Speaker 3: with what we've seen on TOS. I'm sorry. Did I
- 13:03Speaker 3: come out?
- 13:03Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Dan's not something he liked.
- 13:09Speaker 3: There you go.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Scotty.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Scotty.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Hey, he's a sexy man.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I thought that the woman who plays
- 13:25Speaker 1: Uhura did a fantastic job.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And I would like to go so far as to
- 13:31Speaker 1: say I honestly think that Nichelle Nichols would have liked her.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Will Wheaton said that recently. He said he knew them both,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and he said absolutely Nichelle would have loved her.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Yep.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And I know what they were trying to go for.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I know she was trying to do a little bit
- 13:45Speaker 1: of copy without totally copying. It was obviously they tried
- 13:51Speaker 1: to do the look. But I think she wasn't trying
- 13:55Speaker 1: too hard to do Nichelle Nichols inflections and things. I
- 14:00Speaker 1: think it was an homage to her, not a recreation,
- 14:04Speaker 1: not a copy. I really liked her performance.
- 14:08Speaker 3: So I saw a lot of people online I was
- 14:10Speaker 3: a little disappointed. A lot of people online, they said
- 14:13Speaker 3: the Scotty Ohura romance, where did that come from? That
- 14:17Speaker 3: came from nowhere. No, it didn't come from nowhere. Star
- 14:20Speaker 3: Trek V, those two are a thing.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. It's obvious they have a history. They flirted
- 14:27Speaker 1: throughout the entire series. If you go back and watch
- 14:29Speaker 1: the original series, they exchanged looks.
- 14:34Speaker 2: There was a vibe.
- 14:35Speaker 3: A little disappointed we didn't get Bones. They mention him. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 3: they mention him, but you're doing a flash forward, I
- 14:46Speaker 3: thought for sure.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Honestly, the way this episode played out, it could have
- 14:52Speaker 2: been your series finale if you had thrown in Bones
- 14:55Speaker 2: just to put him in there. I'm surprised we didn't
- 14:58Speaker 2: get Sulu. If they had Ortegas out and not flying
- 15:01Speaker 2: the ship, where was Sulu?
- 15:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:04Speaker 3: If they really want to do a deep cut, they
- 15:07Speaker 3: should have done Sulu in a blue uniform.
- 15:09Speaker 2: There you go.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Because in early TOS, he was a botanist. Oh, yeah.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Well, let's not forget the Chekhov.
- 15:14Speaker 2: You know, that is such a cheap cut.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Warning, warning.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Nerd alert.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Nerd alert.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I feel like you deserve that. Thanks. Between the Daniels
- 15:24Speaker 2: and that, like, it was needed.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You know, let's not forget Chekhov. And I know, I know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: you're going to tell me that Walter Koenig was not
- 15:33Speaker 1: in season one of Chekhov. of Star Trek, but it's
- 15:37Speaker 1: clearly established in Star Trek 2 that he was around
- 15:41Speaker 1: for season one, just might not have been on the bridge.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Well, Bill is saying Scotty flirted with a few young lassies.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Honestly, man, it's not that this episode was bad. I
- 15:55Speaker 2: just found it dull. I think on paper, it's a
- 15:57Speaker 2: perfectly fine Star Trek episode. It makes sense. It's an
- 16:01Speaker 2: interesting situation. I was just I think because the whole
- 16:05Speaker 2: season as a whole, I was so checked out at
- 16:08Speaker 2: that point that I just didn't care anymore.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I enjoyed it. I did. I thought it was refreshing
- 16:14Speaker 3: after several foul balls. I thought this was a line
- 16:20Speaker 3: drive right up the middle. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed
- 16:26Speaker 3: seeing Kirk as Captain Kirk. I like Paul Wesley. I
- 16:31Speaker 3: know not everybody does. Yeah, I thought it was good.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Well, Bill, that's not how black holes work, even in
- 16:37Speaker 2: science fiction.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I know. But you got to have something, right?
- 16:42Speaker 1: I think I remember an episode of Star Talk where
- 16:44Speaker 1: Neil deGrasse Tyson talks about white holes.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So I think they might be a thing.
- 16:48Speaker 2: They're a theoretical thing, but we've never found one.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Are they toucans and a string? Probably not, but... Yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah, right now they're just theoretical. So they can be
- 16:59Speaker 2: whatever you want them to be.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I love Scotty doing a Midwestern accent in this one, too.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's pretty good.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: That was funny.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You know, the callbacks were fun. That was neat. I'm
- 17:18Speaker 2: not sure why all of a sudden everybody plays poker.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Did they play poker in TOS? I don't remember that.
- 17:21Speaker 1: That wasn't their game. You know, Deep Space Nine had darts,
- 17:26Speaker 1: and Voyager had pool, and Next Gen had poker. Um, this,
- 17:32Speaker 1: they had 3d chess in the original series, right? It's
- 17:34Speaker 1: the game they play. I don't know why they doubled down. Yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 1: that's okay. You can hold it right there. You can
- 17:39Speaker 1: just leave it on that one.
- 17:41Speaker 2: You guys really like Spock, man.
- 17:42Speaker 3: There.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yes. Spock is looking, uh, is looking good there. I
- 17:49Speaker 1: can't imagine anybody on the other side of that table.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I got your white hole right here.
- 17:53Speaker 3: You know, Chaz, this, we all thought it.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 3: We all thought those things. It doesn't mean you gotta
- 18:01Speaker 3: say them, buddy. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 2: That's so funny. Yeah, so the episode happened. I'm glad
- 18:11Speaker 2: you guys enjoyed it more than me. That's fine. Should
- 18:16Speaker 2: we get into our predictions? Because that's really the main
- 18:19Speaker 2: event here.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it.
- 18:21Speaker 3: I don't even remember what I picked. I don't remember
- 18:24Speaker 3: the questions.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't answered any of them. I'm waiting for
- 18:28Speaker 2: us to go through them all. So we went through
- 18:31Speaker 2: quite a few different things. We had either likely or
- 18:35Speaker 2: unlikely were our responses to those predictions. So our first one,
- 18:40Speaker 2: we'll just go down the line and then we'll decide.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Can one of you guys keep notes of the scoreboard?
- 18:46Speaker 2: Do you have a pen and paper?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:50Speaker 2: You'll do that?
- 18:50Speaker 3: Great. Okay.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So our first one, Joe on Facebook, it won't be
- 18:55Speaker 2: as good as season one. We all said that that
- 18:58Speaker 2: was very likely. Um, I, I would say we all
- 19:01Speaker 2: got that one, right?
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yep.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yep. Yeah. Okay.
- 19:03Speaker 2: So the answer is it was, okay. Uh, JMD 69
- 19:09Speaker 2: on Instagram said, I think we'll see more of a
- 19:12Speaker 2: buildup of Kirk and more development with his relationship with Spock.
- 19:17Speaker 2: We all said likely for that.
- 19:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I mean, it happened in dude, where's my start shuttlecraft.
- 19:22Speaker 1: So we all get a point.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Still a brand new ball game. Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:28Speaker 2: We've still got a few more, though.
- 19:30Speaker 3: All right.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Rowan from Facebook. Lon meets Picard. Both Scott and Dan
- 19:35Speaker 2: said unlikely. I said likely because it didn't say Captain Picard.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It just said Picard. So that didn't happen.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Dan and Scott.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Oh, here we go.
- 19:46Speaker 2: The puppet episode will be cringe.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Both.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Myself and scott said that that was likely going to
- 19:53Speaker 2: be cringe dan was the only one who believed in
- 19:55Speaker 2: the puppets really said unlikely yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Was i drunk that day what was yeah you said
- 20:01Speaker 3: unlikely okay so scott pulls ahead yeah what's the what's
- 20:06Speaker 3: the score right now scott.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You guys are tied up at three, and I've got four.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Okay, okay. Alright, the next one. Dan will go on
- 20:16Speaker 2: a rant on how this show has gotten worse. Scott
- 20:19Speaker 2: said likely, and only myself and Dan said unlikely.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I pretty much ranted the whole season.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The whole season?
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Okay.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So, I guess Scott got that one. Liz from Facebook.
- 20:34Speaker 2: My prediction is Anson Mount will continue to be Handsome
- 20:37Speaker 2: and sexy. We all said likely.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I think we're all right on that.
- 20:43Speaker 2: We're all right.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Sure. Well, we're either all right or we're all wrong.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It doesn't matter.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Hanson Mount's a sexy guy.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That's right.
- 20:52Speaker 3: All right.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Another one from Instagram. Spock dies. We all said unlikely.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I mean, kind of, because it was in that dream
- 21:02Speaker 2: where he was needing a new heart and they were
- 21:04Speaker 2: trying to get Sarek or... cyborg but did he die
- 21:08Speaker 2: i mean didn't he kind of for like a moment.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Did he i don't remember jacob it was all a
- 21:13Speaker 1: dream yeah yeah so are we saying he died or
- 21:18Speaker 1: not i don't think he died we all voted the
- 21:20Speaker 1: same right we all voted the same so i'm gonna
- 21:22Speaker 1: say we all got that one right.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Okay he didn't die i'm gonna say we all got it.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Wrong too late i already wrote down the check.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Mark schrodinger's spock yep he's alive and he's dead at.
- 21:32Speaker 3: The same time exactly all.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Right all right uh curtis from fate from facebook The refit, maybe?
- 21:38Speaker 2: We all said unlikely. There was no refit.
- 21:41Speaker 1: There was no refit.
- 21:41Speaker 3: There was a lot of agreement in the first half
- 21:44Speaker 3: of this poll.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah, quite a bit. But we're almost to the end.
- 21:49Speaker 2: We're halfway through.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Nigel says, half the episodes will contradict canon and be terrible.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Scott and Dan both said likely. I said unlikely. All right,
- 22:01Speaker 2: let's break this down.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Let's break this down. were at least half the episodes
- 22:07Speaker 1: countered at canon? I mean, we can all agree that
- 22:08Speaker 1: at least half of the episodes were terrible.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Right, but are we sticklers that they had to do both,
- 22:15Speaker 2: countered at canon and be terrible? Could they just be
- 22:18Speaker 2: terrible and then fall?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Or was it they're terrible because they countered at canon?
- 22:23Speaker 1: I think this is more of a canon question and
- 22:26Speaker 1: not a terrible question.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, because half the episodes are terrible. I was more
- 22:30Speaker 2: than half, but.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about canon then. okay i mean what
- 22:36Speaker 1: what uh what went against canon what did you know
- 22:39Speaker 1: um it was such a hodgepodge of bad that.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah i can't really think of major canon maybe the
- 22:44Speaker 2: invisible ship they were after kind of a romulan thing
- 22:49Speaker 2: even though they never said what it was.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Man but that doesn't really go against canon yeah because
- 22:53Speaker 1: they didn't know what it was yeah this question should
- 22:56Speaker 1: have been broken down into two parts.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Yeah well you you and dan both said likely that
- 23:01Speaker 2: it would be terrible and contrary to canon, and I
- 23:04Speaker 2: said unlikely.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I think we're going to have to give this one
- 23:07Speaker 1: to Daniel.
- 23:08Speaker 3: To me? Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Wait, which one?
- 23:11Speaker 2: I think you and Dan got it, because at least
- 23:13Speaker 2: half the episodes are terrible.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Okay. I'll agree.
- 23:17Speaker 3: I'll agree it's terrible.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Okay, so Dan and Scott get a point.
- 23:21Speaker 2: All right, next one ends on a cliffhanger for season five.
- 23:26Speaker 2: We all said likely. It did not.
- 23:27Speaker 3: It did not? Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I'm really surprised by that.
- 23:31Speaker 3: All right.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Do you want to do another recap.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Where we're at? Yeah. Dan has seven. Daniel has six.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And I have eight.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Okay. You're in the lead.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Oof. Okay.
- 23:46Speaker 2: We see McCoy. Both Scott and Dan said likely. I
- 23:50Speaker 2: said unlikely.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Coming up, baby.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: The Enterprise don't drone fighters return.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Both.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Scott and Dan said unlikely. I said likely. We didn't
- 24:04Speaker 2: get the drone fighters, but we did get drones for
- 24:06Speaker 2: a space baby. But they weren't the fighters.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Nope. Fighters.
- 24:10Speaker 2: They weren't the fighters.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess those are two separate things, aren't they? Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:16Speaker 1: So who gets the points? Dan and I?
- 24:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I do not get a point. They finally revisit Cybok.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Scott said unlikely. I said unlikely. Dan was the only
- 24:28Speaker 2: one to say likely.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Gotta give it to him.
- 24:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Gotta give it to him. God bless America.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he was back.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Captain Angel returns. Scott said likely. I said likely. Dan
- 24:43Speaker 2: was the only one to say no.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Oh, did I just pull ahead?
- 24:46Speaker 2: I think so.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I believe you did. I believe you did.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Where are we at now? We're down to the last two.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Dan is at ten. Daniel is at seven. And I
- 24:56Speaker 1: am at nine. Wow.
- 24:59Speaker 2: It's neck and neck, baby. It's neck and neck.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Return to the binars. Scott said unlikely. I said unlikely.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Dan said likely.
- 25:09Speaker 3: What was I smoking?
- 25:11Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness. So that gives a point for me
- 25:14Speaker 1: and Daniel.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Oh, are you two tied right now?
- 25:19Speaker 1: We're tied.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 25:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 25:22Speaker 3: What's it at? Oh, no.
- 25:25Speaker 1: It's Dan is at 10. Daniel's at eight. seven and
- 25:30Speaker 1: no he's eight and scott is at.
- 25:32Speaker 7: 10 10 and 10 okay oh no here we go
- 25:36Speaker 7: here's our time scotty and des make it through tos
- 25:40Speaker 7: by the end of season four scott we did.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Not watch a single episode yeah there's.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Dan got it because he said unlikely oh hey scott
- 25:52Speaker 2: hey scott Thanks for winning that for me.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, no problem.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I hate you. That was totally in your control, too.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And with the final score of Dan at 11, Daniel
- 26:08Speaker 1: at 8, and Scott at 10, the winner is Dan.
- 26:13Speaker 3: There you go.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm going to blame this one solely on Desiree.
- 26:18Speaker 2: She didn't want to watch TOS with you?
- 26:23Speaker 1: She probably did.
- 26:27Speaker 3: She should have blamed your wife.
- 26:29Speaker 1: She should have pushed me more.
- 26:30Speaker 2: There's no way of blaming your wife on the internet.
- 26:33Speaker 3: You can watch all the TOS you want on the
- 26:35Speaker 3: couch by yourself.
- 26:37Speaker 2: By myself.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Oh, man. Yes, we need puppet versions of ourselves. Somebody
- 26:48Speaker 1: with AI get on that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Puppet versions
- 26:51Speaker 1: of Daniel.
- 26:52Speaker 2: That's going to be in the room, in the Facebook
- 26:55Speaker 2: group for sure. I did want to bring this up
- 26:58Speaker 2: since we're talking about Strange New Worlds. I got that
- 27:03Speaker 2: series chart thing that I found.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's rough, buddy. It's really rough. It is
- 27:10Speaker 2: progressively getting worse and worse as the seasons go on. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 2: so this season ended... Okay, so... To give people an idea,
- 27:20Speaker 2: season one overall got a 7.8. This comes just from
- 27:25Speaker 2: series graph. It's basically Rotten Tomatoes, but for TV shows.
- 27:31Speaker 2: So they get all the ratings around and put them together.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Season two was a little bit higher at 8.0. Season three,
- 27:37Speaker 2: a little bit lower at 7.1. But season four got
- 27:39Speaker 2: a 6.3. People were just not as into it, baby.
- 27:47Speaker 2: You can see like if it's like a five or lower,
- 27:50Speaker 2: it gets a red mark showing like it's not a
- 27:54Speaker 2: good episode. And half the episodes are red marks.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Yep.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And that's that's not just for like people that, oh,
- 27:59Speaker 2: I hate, you know, what modern Trek is. No, it's
- 28:02Speaker 2: overall fans like the sentiment across the Internet. That's bad, man.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Only three of the episodes were green marks showing that
- 28:11Speaker 2: they were eights or above.
- 28:13Speaker 1: So, yeah. Desiree says, well, I was the one who
- 28:16Speaker 1: entered that prediction. Yeah, that's all. So I lost because
- 28:19Speaker 1: of you, Des. Thanks a lot.
- 28:20Speaker 8: Wow.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Wow.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Thanks, Des. Chuck's in the mail. Uh-huh.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow.
- 28:29Speaker 2: You know, so I tried to find, like, we've had
- 28:33Speaker 2: those articles from the producers saying that, you know, strange
- 28:37Speaker 2: new worlds, the worlds are genres and everything. But now
- 28:41Speaker 2: that the final episode's been out, One of the producers
- 28:44Speaker 2: actually did an interview, a podcast interview, and I pulled
- 28:48Speaker 2: a sound clip getting their reaction to all the criticism.
- 28:52Speaker 2: So I'm going to play that audio, and then you
- 28:55Speaker 2: guys let me know what you think of their response, okay?
- 28:57Speaker 1: You ready? Yeah.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I don't care. I don't care. My jokes don't go over.
- 29:04Speaker 5: I don't care.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Everybody, I don't care. He does not care.
- 29:08Speaker 7: I don't care.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty much.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That's about right.
- 29:15Speaker 3: That sounds... Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 1: That was Alex Kurtzman, right?
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yes, that was Kurtzman.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Hey, well, now that we're over with that, can we
- 29:24Speaker 2: get up to the main topic, lanterns?
- 29:26Speaker 1: Lanterns, yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Lanterns is going to be so good. Yeah. This is
- 29:32Speaker 2: definitely the darkest night with this with this show right
- 29:34Speaker 2: now oh boy yeah uh so we got six more
- 29:37Speaker 2: episodes for season five um right now the predictions are
- 29:41Speaker 2: all over the place is it going to be more
- 29:42Speaker 2: of this you know genre hopping is it going to
- 29:45Speaker 2: be back to normal i've seen predictions.
- 29:47Speaker 3: For both you know it's only six episodes so yeah
- 29:51Speaker 3: so disappointing they must they must have like a final
- 29:55Speaker 3: story that they are yeah Yeah, even though I heard
- 29:58Speaker 3: the rumor that it's all episodic.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, man. It really could be. I
- 30:03Speaker 2: could see them trying to do like three or four
- 30:07Speaker 2: episodes of just wackiness, and then their final two are
- 30:10Speaker 2: their let's tie up the season.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Do you think that the editors are scrambling right now?
- 30:14Speaker 1: They've gotten the feedback, and they're like, what can we
- 30:16Speaker 1: do in the editing?
- 30:17Speaker 3: They don't care.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like the song said. They don't care. You
- 30:20Speaker 2: didn't hear the clip a minute ago?
- 30:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 2: They don't care at all, man. Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Show's over.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 1: So I don't need to take notes anymore, right? It
- 30:30Speaker 1: doesn't matter what I write down on this little notepad. Okay, yeah.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And the thing that sucks is I could.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Be the head of Paramount and it wouldn't matter what
- 30:38Speaker 1: I wrote down on my little notebook for taking notes
- 30:40Speaker 1: because the season's already shot. They shot it. It's shot.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I sound like Ant-Man in Endgame.
- 30:47Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I had a buddy who went and saw Endgame and
- 30:50Speaker 2: he put on Facebook, it could have been an email,
- 30:53Speaker 2: all the new changes.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Right, right, yeah.
- 30:58Speaker 2: It's over. It's over. Well, Bill, what could they possibly
- 31:05Speaker 2: do in editing to fix any of those? Yeah, I
- 31:08Speaker 2: thought about that too. My only thought was, remember the
- 31:12Speaker 2: old school pop-up videos where they would have little factoids
- 31:15Speaker 2: on the music videos?
- 31:16Speaker 1: Do that.
- 31:17Speaker 2: He's like, oops, we didn't mean to do this.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Or have it as an episode. What was that Mystery
- 31:23Speaker 1: Science Theater 3000? Just have, like, they should just have
- 31:26Speaker 1: the three of us at the bottom of the screen.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Just making fun of it.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Well, I mean, we got six more episodes. Yeah. I'm
- 31:36Speaker 3: just going to hope for the best.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully. I mean, we got Academy around the corner.
- 31:41Speaker 2: We got the last season, and then it's over.
- 31:45Speaker 3: My hope is at the close of season three. Uh-huh.
- 31:50Speaker 3: They knew how they wanted to finish the show. So
- 31:52Speaker 3: like season four was, yeah, it was filler. And because
- 31:56Speaker 3: it's filler, let's just do some fun stuff. Yeah.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Do whatever the fun stuff did.
- 32:00Speaker 3: It didn't land.
- 32:01Speaker 6: Right.
- 32:02Speaker 3: It didn't land. Um, but they still had that plan
- 32:05Speaker 3: for season five.
- 32:07Speaker 6: Right.
- 32:07Speaker 3: So I don't know if that's true, but that's what
- 32:10Speaker 3: I'm going to believe. That's what I'm going to take
- 32:13Speaker 3: into it.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Comes.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I'm going to hope for the best.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I want to believe that with you. I really want
- 32:19Speaker 2: to believe that. How do you want it to end?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Do you want to see Pike get injured and he's
- 32:25Speaker 2: in the chair? Do you want to see him one
- 32:28Speaker 2: last adventure and then he's accepting that fate? What do
- 32:33Speaker 2: you want?
- 32:34Speaker 3: I want to see I want them to stay true
- 32:40Speaker 3: to canon and retcon it a little bit all at
- 32:44Speaker 3: the same time. I want things to play out exactly
- 32:48Speaker 3: how they're supposed to. He sacrifices himself. He ends up
- 32:53Speaker 3: in the chair. He lives out his days with the Talosians.
- 32:58Speaker 3: But in the end, when he chooses what imaginary life
- 33:03Speaker 3: he wants for himself, when he chooses that snapshot in
- 33:07Speaker 3: time that he wants to live out in his mind,
- 33:09Speaker 3: he chooses season three of Strange New Worlds. He wants
- 33:13Speaker 3: to spend the rest of his life with these people.
- 33:16Speaker 3: That's something that I could get But they won't. They'll
- 33:23Speaker 3: come up with something non-canon and not as good as
- 33:26Speaker 3: what I said. Or he'll survive and he'll be Admiral Pike. Yeah.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I keep trying to think what I would do. What
- 33:36Speaker 2: I think would probably be best. I don't think as
- 33:39Speaker 2: a viewer, I don't think I want to see him
- 33:41Speaker 2: in the chair, but I want to acknowledge that he's
- 33:43Speaker 2: going there.
- 33:45Speaker 4: You know?
- 33:46Speaker 2: And maybe it ends with him going to that situation
- 33:49Speaker 2: and other people are like but pike you know what's
- 33:53Speaker 2: going to happen to you and he's like it's okay
- 33:54Speaker 2: and like he looks at kirk and he's like the
- 33:57Speaker 2: ship's in good hands with you and like that kind
- 34:00Speaker 2: of thing but he he's accepting it but he you
- 34:02Speaker 2: know he's on his way to do his noble sacrifice.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Because in the original series that the there was the
- 34:08Speaker 1: cage and then they used that as a clip show
- 34:12Speaker 1: for was it the menagerie yes what okay And that's
- 34:16Speaker 1: where he goes off with the Talosians and has his
- 34:18Speaker 1: fantasy life, right?
- 34:20Speaker 3: Yes.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I think episode six should start out with that fantasy life,
- 34:26Speaker 1: and then they can do a recap. Yeah, I definitely
- 34:30Speaker 1: want to see a happy ending for him, and it
- 34:31Speaker 1: seems like The Menagerie was a happy ending for Pike.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Happy-ish.
- 34:36Speaker 3: It was a happy-ish ending.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And then he chooses, I want to see him choose
- 34:40Speaker 1: the fantasy life with him and his daughter.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I would like to see that too. That's a
- 34:43Speaker 2: good idea.
- 34:44Speaker 1: That's where that ties in. That was the fantasy or
- 34:49Speaker 1: that was the alternate whatever. That's what we see him
- 34:52Speaker 1: at the end, embracing his daughter. He's with his daughter
- 34:54Speaker 1: and the Enterprise goes off to begin his first five-year mission.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Everybody's like, We're all like, we want to be hopeful,
- 35:03Speaker 1: but we've seen the shit show of a season, and
- 35:06Speaker 1: we're not sure that the writers are capable of doing
- 35:09Speaker 1: good Trek anymore.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I still don't think it's the writers. I think
- 35:13Speaker 2: it's the showrunners, and they're just doing what they're being
- 35:17Speaker 2: told to do, you know? Because there are moments, even
- 35:20Speaker 2: in some of these bad episodes, where it's really good.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I mean, the talent of the actors is there. The
- 35:26Speaker 2: talent of the writing is there.
- 35:29Speaker 3: It's just.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Agreed. It feels like they're being, you know, their hands
- 35:34Speaker 2: are tied behind their back.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:36Speaker 1: They need to be unshackled.
- 35:38Speaker 2: That's right. Unshackled from insanity.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yes. It's been way too much unshackling already.
- 35:45Speaker 2: That's right. That's right.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Yeah. No more shackling.
- 35:48Speaker 2: All right. Well, let's, uh, we got people already starting
- 35:50Speaker 2: to wait and they want to talk. So let's get
- 35:53Speaker 2: to a listener feedback. Listener feedback.
- 35:58Speaker 1: All right.
- 35:59Speaker 2: If you want to join us in, uh, on the show,
- 36:02Speaker 2: just X up in the chat, put an X and
- 36:04Speaker 2: I'll send you the link so you can join us. Uh,
- 36:07Speaker 2: we already got hipster Spock and Chazbiz waiting. Uh, but
- 36:11Speaker 2: before we get to that, we've got a voicemail. So let's, uh,
- 36:15Speaker 2: let's play that.
- 36:16Speaker 5: So for the season fail of Star Trek, uh, good episode,
- 36:22Speaker 5: liked it. Lots of callbacks. I actually felt like a
- 36:25Speaker 5: Trek episodes changed the world's new life and all that,
- 36:28Speaker 5: et cetera.
- 36:29Speaker 3: It was good.
- 36:29Speaker 5: Uh, lots of, uh, The animated series references, because you
- 36:33Speaker 5: see in, like, the bird with the wings, the animated
- 36:39Speaker 5: cat person, and the lizard, those are all from the
- 36:42Speaker 5: animated series. So I thought that was kind of cool. No,
- 36:47Speaker 5: they just did a really good job with this episode.
- 36:50Speaker 5: But apparently this was supposed to be the series finale,
- 36:53Speaker 5: but after they found out they got six more episodes, the.
- 36:58Speaker 5: They reshot some of these episodes. So the stuff that
- 37:01Speaker 5: they shot for this will be in episode six of
- 37:04Speaker 5: season five. So now we'll be able to find what
- 37:06Speaker 5: happened to Lon, how, uh, the Helmsman becomes a captain
- 37:11Speaker 5: of the shuttle. And, um, hopefully we get to see
- 37:15Speaker 5: that solar storm and how for her, um, becomes a
- 37:18Speaker 5: poker player and how Spock becomes more Leonard Nimoy type
- 37:21Speaker 5: Spock to differentiate the two that we saw in this
- 37:24Speaker 5: episode again for the 60 year episode great so it
- 37:28Speaker 5: sucks that it's ending I would have liked seeing the
- 37:31Speaker 5: Kirk year one of the Enterprise but a break will
- 37:35Speaker 5: probably be much needed to see everything reset and new
- 37:37Speaker 5: stories etc but yeah I got no complaints for the
- 37:41Speaker 5: and I'm going to do a rewatch and I think
- 37:44Speaker 5: I might appreciate season four a little bit better so
- 37:46Speaker 5: overall Good.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Great.
- 37:48Speaker 2: There you go. The penguin has spoken. He liked it. So, yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 2: you can also leave us a voicemail, 570-661-0001. That's 570-661-0001. And, yeah,
- 38:04Speaker 2: we'd love to hear from you as well. We've got
- 38:07Speaker 2: quite the lineup ready to go.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I think people have thoughts.
- 38:12Speaker 2: People have thoughts, I think, for the season overall. So
- 38:15Speaker 2: we're going to go in order of who– Raise their hands.
- 38:18Speaker 2: So we're going to go with Hipster Spock first. So
- 38:21Speaker 2: there we go. Hipster Spock, how are you doing, buddy?
- 38:23Speaker 3: Hello, gentlemen.
- 38:23Speaker 4: How are you guys doing today?
- 38:25Speaker 3: Good. How are you?
- 38:26Speaker 4: Doing all right. It's Sunday.
- 38:29Speaker 3: We've got to work tomorrow, right?
- 38:30Speaker 4: Well, I've actually managed to watch three episodes of this
- 38:34Speaker 4: season somehow. And it's the season opener, the puppet episode,
- 38:42Speaker 4: and the soap opera episode. Because I figure, OK, we're
- 38:46Speaker 4: going to do it.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Why not?
- 38:48Speaker 4: I'm a glutton for punishment, right? So, actually, I didn't
- 38:55Speaker 4: hate those episodes, actually. And it was, like, kind of entertaining.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I mean, it was a good way to, like, unplug
- 39:04Speaker 4: my brain for a little bit and just enjoy the spectacle.
- 39:08Speaker 4: And that was enough for me. But, you know, like,
- 39:12Speaker 4: you've watched all of, like, Strange New Worlds. You watched Academy.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Unfortunately.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 39:21Speaker 4: And so, I mean, Strange New Worlds have to be
- 39:26Speaker 4: a lot better than Academy, right?
- 39:29Speaker 3: It's better. for sure.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I mean, I would take the worst episode of this
- 39:36Speaker 2: season over the best episode of Academy.
- 39:42Speaker 4: So, you know, yeah, I guess we all had, like,
- 39:46Speaker 4: really high hopes for Strange New Worlds, given, like, the
- 39:49Speaker 4: first season was like really good and we thought that
- 39:53Speaker 4: it might carry through, but I guess, uh, they don't
- 39:56Speaker 4: have that much, um, feel in their tank.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Huh?
- 39:59Speaker 4: So I guess at some point, uh, they're just living
- 40:04Speaker 4: off of, uh, fumes. So, but still it's, I, I
- 40:11Speaker 4: wouldn't count them out just yet. It just, you know,
- 40:15Speaker 4: If you take it really seriously, then of course you're
- 40:18Speaker 4: going to be disappointed. But I just use it to
- 40:24Speaker 4: unplug my brains and it's okay.
- 40:26Speaker 2: No, that's fine, man. If you enjoyed it, that's great.
- 40:29Speaker 2: And I'm glad you liked it. Absolutely.
- 40:30Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not saying that it's great.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But it's just something that's... Yeah, it's entertainment.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 40:39Speaker 4: So that's all I see of it. And yeah, Trek
- 40:43Speaker 4: is Trek, right?
- 40:44Speaker 1: There you go. There you go.
- 40:47Speaker 4: So, yeah, that's all I have to say. I guess
- 40:50Speaker 4: Chaz Biz will have a lot more to say than me.
- 40:52Speaker 4: So here you go, Chaz Biz. Go ahead.
- 40:56Speaker 8: Thanks a lot, guys.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Hipster Spock, before you go, are you still there? Yeah.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Are you watching Lanterns?
- 41:03Speaker 6: Lanterns?
- 41:04Speaker 4: I've seen lots of talk about them, but I haven't
- 41:09Speaker 4: really sat down and had a look.
- 41:12Speaker 3: All right, well, take a look at it, and after
- 41:14Speaker 3: you do, come back and talk to us about it.
- 41:15Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I'll give it a try.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:18Speaker 4: I'll give it a try.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Very good.
- 41:22Speaker 2: There goes Hipster Spock. Oh, yeah, A-Wolf here. That should
- 41:28Speaker 2: be the tagline for Strangers in the World. Say, at
- 41:29Speaker 2: least it's better than Starfleet Academy.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yeah. All right.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Before I bring on Chazviz, I've got to show this,
- 41:40Speaker 2: because he put it up in the group. And I
- 41:43Speaker 2: don't think you guys got a chance to see this.
- 41:46Speaker 2: There it is.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:52Speaker 2: You know, I don't hate these puppets. All right, Chaz,
- 41:55Speaker 2: bringing you in so you can explain yourself with these puppets.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I've got a very strong beard. I like it.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you do. You kind of look like the what
- 42:07Speaker 2: was the name of that TV spokesman? That was selling
- 42:10Speaker 2: stuff all the time. Billy B is here!
- 42:15Speaker 8: Don't do cocaine on airplanes.
- 42:17Speaker 1: It'll be alright.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Just not on an airplane. Anywhere else is fine.
- 42:22Speaker 3: Don't get hit and be hyped up on coke. I
- 42:25Speaker 3: like how the AI turned my Amazon boxes into a lamp.
- 42:29Speaker 3: It's kind of cool, right? It cleaned up a little
- 42:32Speaker 3: bit for me.
- 42:35Speaker 1: I like the Trek cast in Daniel's background.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. That might be my new profile picture.
- 42:43Speaker 2: That's pretty great.
- 42:44Speaker 3: That's good.
- 42:46Speaker 2: So, Jasmine, what did you think of the episode and
- 42:48Speaker 2: the season?
- 42:49Speaker 8: This episode was like, if they had more of these,
- 42:51Speaker 8: we'd be happy about the season, right?
- 42:54Speaker 6: Right.
- 42:54Speaker 8: Or just kind of like, it's better than the last season.
- 42:59Speaker 8: I mean, one thing I didn't like about this episode
- 43:02Speaker 8: was they couldn't figure out a name for the space baby.
- 43:05Speaker 8: And they just called it the space baby.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:07Speaker 8: You know, and they like make kind of it was
- 43:10Speaker 8: almost like a joke on like a lower decks joke,
- 43:13Speaker 8: you know, not taking.
- 43:14Speaker 1: It too seriously.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 4: This is kind of serious.
- 43:17Speaker 8: Kind of killed Scotty and killed Ortega on the other ship.
- 43:23Speaker 8: The other timeline, too.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Wasn't she just the pilot on that shellcraft? Yeah, she
- 43:29Speaker 2: got injured, but that was it.
- 43:30Speaker 8: Yeah, because I know Scotty died.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah. I got confused when that happened because when Future Uhura,
- 43:38Speaker 1: when one year Future Uhura, I thought she went forward
- 43:41Speaker 1: another year for a minute. And I was confused what
- 43:45Speaker 1: the timelines were because I was confused about because only
- 43:47Speaker 1: one person made it back from that original shuttle incident.
- 43:51Speaker 1: And it was her and Ortegas and Scotty. It seemed
- 43:55Speaker 1: like the ship exploded. And then I was like, who died?
- 43:58Speaker 1: Who didn't die?
- 43:58Speaker 4: What?
- 43:59Speaker 1: What year is this? A year later? Is this two
- 44:01Speaker 1: years later? What is it?
- 44:02Speaker 3: So it's a time travel episode. When you watch these things,
- 44:05Speaker 3: you have to kind of turn your brain off. You
- 44:09Speaker 3: can't try and figure out the logic because the more
- 44:14Speaker 3: you think about it, the more it falls apart. They
- 44:17Speaker 3: established that, we'll call them young Ohura and old Ohura.
- 44:21Speaker 3: They've established that what young Ohura does in her time
- 44:25Speaker 3: frame affects the present of old Ohura. Hey, I need
- 44:30Speaker 3: this thing. I need this experiment, but I need a
- 44:33Speaker 3: year's worth of progress on it. So go start the experiment.
- 44:37Speaker 3: So a year later, the experiment is done. And then
- 44:40Speaker 3: I have the product of that experiment. Okay. So by
- 44:43Speaker 3: doing that, you're establishing what she does affects her. If
- 44:47Speaker 3: that's true, then every experience that young Ohura has, old
- 44:54Speaker 3: Ohura should know it. Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:58Speaker 3: It should be a memory to her. It should be
- 45:00Speaker 3: a one year old memory to her.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:02Speaker 3: So, you know, stuff like that. Once you realize stuff
- 45:05Speaker 3: like that, just, just turn your brain off. Just watch
- 45:07Speaker 3: the show. Yeah.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I thought about that too. Like, well, why doesn't she say, no,
- 45:11Speaker 2: at this point you do this. And at that point
- 45:13Speaker 2: you do that.
- 45:13Speaker 3: You know, I'm going to, I'm going to, uh, I'm
- 45:16Speaker 3: going to Facebook group for back to the future. Enthusiasts.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:19Speaker 3: And people were discussing this morning. Okay. So at the
- 45:22Speaker 3: end of the movie, Marty comes back, he's watching himself.
- 45:26Speaker 3: Watch doc get shot.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 45:29Speaker 3: And that Marty is about to jump into the DeLorean
- 45:31Speaker 3: and go back to 1955, right? At that point, it's
- 45:35Speaker 3: the Lone Pine Mall.
- 45:37Speaker 6: This is Captain Benjamin Sisko of Deep Space Nine and
- 45:40Speaker 6: Space God to the Bajorans. I have a mission for you.
- 45:43Speaker 6: This falls outside of Starfleet guidelines. So I can't order you,
- 45:47Speaker 6: but I'm asking for volunteers. Volunteers who will subscribe to
