- 0:30You wanna be respected? Learn, deliver, and say no more often. Question everything. Being somebody isn't a gift you're given. You decide you matter. Stop being everywhere. People don't follow perfect, they follow real. When you show up real, you give everybody else permission to do the same. Believe in invisible progress. Pick your stage, claim it, and dominate it.
- 0:59I'm Kelly Siegel and this is Harder Than Life, the show where we get real about what it takes to build strength, peace, and purpose from the inside out. Today's topic hits deep. Being a somebody isn't a gift you're given. It's a decision you make. Let's dive in. I want to start with a story from my own life.
- 1:22There was a moment, not that long ago, when I looked around and I realized something uncomfortable, which by the way means growth and makes me excited. No one was coming to save me. No one was coming to discover me. No one was going to knock on my door and hand me this microphone. For years, I thought if I just worked hard enough,
- 1:51Kept my head down. Somebody would notice. But they didn't. And the truth is, they're not supposed to. That's my job. I remember sitting in the early days of national technology management, my AI cybersecurity firm.
- 2:10Buried in work, exhaustion, frustration, wondering why success still felt invisible and empty. We were solving huge problems for companies, protecting people's data, keeping their businesses alive. And yet outside of our circle, nobody even knew our name. And then it hit me.
- 2:39I wasn't acting like somebody who belonged at the table. I was waiting for permission. And if you've heard me for a minute, playing small is canceled and was canceled that day. And that's the day I stopped waiting and started showing up like the guy who deserved to be there. And then everything changed. Revenue grew. Opportunities opened. And.
- 3:08Confidence exude. Remember, action builds confidence. ABC. And that's when Harder Than Life was born. See, this isn't just about business. It's about identity. Most people will spend their whole life trying to be chosen.
- 3:31Chosen for the promotion, the relationship, a spotlight. Hey, look at me. Heck, I even have a term. Lambs. Look at me, bitches. But here's the hard truth. You've already chosen. Just haven't stepped into it yet. Being somebody isn't luck. It's a decision.
- 3:55plus repetition, which means action over and over and over. You decide you matter, and then you keep proving it through your actions until the world can't even ignore it. Man, does that hit home? That feels good, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the reverse of that is true as well. That
- 4:18is what I remember all too often, which started harder than life. Let's get real honest for a second. We all look up to the big names, the celebrities, the gurus, the icons, and we tell ourselves, they're different.
- 4:34They're smarter, more connected, more fearless. They started with a better advantage. They have more money. It's wrong, people. I tell you, it's wrong. I've met them. I've sat next to them. I've been in rooms with them and listened. They're the same as you. I've seen the same fear, the same insecurities, the same shaking of hands that you and I have felt. I watched powerful people panic,
- 5:04before a keynote, before they were stepping on stage, as they were going to make a tough decision, even in relationships, those are the funny ones. I've seen executives question their worth seconds before walking into a board meeting or stepping on stage. The difference between them and the crowd isn't talent, it's willingness.
- 5:27It's willingness to walk in their fear, face their fears. They showed up scared. They did it anyways. That's the separator. They just took one step forward. And the world rewards action, not intention. Authority flows from behavior. It's the age-old behavior.
- 5:56Show me the proof. Forget the promise.
- 6:01You want to be seen as a leader? Start acting like one before anyone hands you the title. You want to be respected? Start respecting yourself enough to prepare, to learn, to deliver, and to say no more often. Holding standards, holding boundaries, taking in positive content. The audience will notice, they will catch up, and they will follow.
- 6:28Most people are random. They say yes to everything. Post once in a while and wonder why nobody remembers their name. Random equals invisible. Pick your stage and own it, people. Whether that stage is your podcast, your social media feed, your work, your gym, your family, your dinner table, pick it, claim it, and dominate it.
- 6:57I tell you what changed in my life. Clarity. You guys have heard me say it a million times. Peace, clarity, freedom. Once I decided that my stage was the intersection of business, mindset, and fitness, everything else lined up. That's the Heart of Life brand, my friends. That's why you're tuned in.
- 7:23And for you, it might be something different, but my assumption is pretty damn close to that. Maybe it's design. Maybe it's real estate. Maybe it's parenting or leadership or coaching or fitness or just never giving up the relentless pursuit of being unbreakable. Whatever it is, stop dabbling. Stop being everywhere. Stop being everywhere.
- 7:51Stop trying to please everyone. Focus is magnetic. And remember, focus stands for follow one course until success. You want people to follow you? Give them something to grab onto. Let's talk about the fear underneath though. You hear me say it? Face everything and rise. Because every time you step into that visibility,
- 8:20That old voice is gonna show up. Who am I to do this? What if I fail? What will people say? I still hear that voice. I'm not qualified. People are better than you. Who are you to say this? Every time I publish something, every time I record, every time I speak, that little doubter comes up on my shoulder. But here's the truth.
- 8:49Fear doesn't disappear. It just learns to ride shotgun and you learn to listen to it and just let it flow. I don't resist it. I don't let it persist. I just let it be. Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's the dominance of purpose and charging forward.
- 9:14despite all the aforementioned doubts, fears, negativity. Remember, thoughts are magical lies. You don't have to believe everything you think because most of them are wrong and they're meant to keep you safe. Growing in the life that you're meant to be, it's not gonna feel safe. When your purpose is bigger than your fear, you'll move anyway. That's what being a somebody looks like in real life.
- 9:42But let's get real practical. I don't ever give you advice and not tell you how to do it. So how do you start behaving like a somebody today? Number one, decide who you are. Clarity kills confusion. Write it down. I am, fill in the blank. Who does fill in your impact? I am someone who is relentless and unbreakable.
- 10:10who does makes the impossible possible. I inspire, I lead to make this world a better place.
- 10:19Here's another version. I am a leader who turns chaos into clarity. I am a coach who teaches people to master discipline. I am the entrepreneur who protects businesses through cybersecurity. I'm adding a new one, showing people how to collapse time with AI. Whatever it is, own it, embody it. Number two, control your presence. Presence is posture, energy, and follow through.
- 10:49Folks, when I walk into a room, people feel. When I met my girlfriend, she's like, what in the world was that your energy walked in before you did? Walk in like you belong because you do. Don't slouch. Don't apologize for taking up space. Don't apologize for being too big. If you're too big, that other person's too small. The world reflects the confidence you broadcast and you emanate.
- 11:19Number three, tell the truth. Authenticity is undefeated. People can feel fake from a mile away. You don't need a polished persona. You need transparency with direction. I can go on time after time and time and talk about some of the people that you guys all know. Some of these influencers, thought leaders who are getting indicted, who tell you one thing and do another.
- 11:48They ain't gonna make it. So authenticity lasts forever. I don't know how to lie, I can't remember a lie. I think that is the most cowardice thing in the world to do. So just tell the truth always. The truth hurts once, a lie hurts forever. Number four, create your platform. Don't wait for an invitation, build your own room. Build your own table.
- 12:15podcast, the newsletter, stage, social feed, whatever the format is, pick it. The one that fits your voice and use it consistently. I tell people all the time, just grab your phone, hit record and hit post. You'll get better at it. That's how this harder than life brand started. I started doing that during the pandemic and here we are.
- 12:39millions of views later. Number five, make noise on purpose. This is my specialty. Be the rhetoric in the room that says, why are we doing it this way? Ooh, question everything. As a matter of fact, in my AI cybersecurity firm, if we've always done something that way, I pretty much will want to throw in the garbage and start all over.
- 13:01Oh, because life has become more efficient. We have new tools. We have new knowledge. Leverage it. Take a stand. The world follows people who have the courage to say what others only think. Let's pause right there for a second. Think about where you've been blending in. Maybe you've dimmed your light at work.
- 13:30Maybe you've been quiet about the vision because you don't want to look arrogant. Maybe you're just questioning yourself because you don't think you're smart enough. I've been there. Maybe you've been saying someday about the idea sitting in your heart. Please stop. Just stop. Today is the day you decide. Nobody's giving you permission because you don't need it. I've always said, I'm going to ask for forgiveness and not permission.
- 14:01When I first started sharing my story, my childhood trauma, the addiction, horrible choices I was making, the mistakes I made, people warned me. Kelly, it's too raw. Kelly, it's too personal. I hear it still to this day. People that are playing small saying to me, oh, you think you're so cool because you have a podcast.
- 14:27No, I don't think anything. I'm just trying to pay it forward, but I hear it. I hear the naysayers. It used to be I drank too much. Then it was I work out too much. And now it's I do too many podcasts. Sorry. Sorry, I'm not sorry. Because every time I share my truth, someone's messaged me saying thank you. That's my story too. Or I needed to hear that today.
- 14:52And nothing fuels me more than helping all you guys. So thank you for those messages. Keep them coming. Remember, you can always send them to my email too. I've been getting a lot of those. Kelly at 100andlife.com. If you want to hear any messages, my take on anything, believe me, I research it and then I get back and I record a whole message on it. So I digress. I realized that vulnerability is the highest form of strength. It is the highest form of connection. People don't follow perfect. They follow real.
- 15:23When you show up real, you give everybody else permission to do the same. That's leadership. Leaders go first. They lead. Let's talk visibility strategy for entrepreneurs listening. I have a lot of you. Being everywhere isn't the goal. Being in the right places for the right people is.
- 15:45I call these needle mover activities, not just being somewhere to be somewhere. I see it all the time. Everybody at all these networking events that aren't any kind of revenue generating activity. It's just, it's a waste of time. I don't go to them anymore. I'm sorry. I don't mean any harm by my friends, but anywhere that somebody is trying to escape from their family or their life and downing a bunch of drinks and calling it networking, it's not a place I need to be. If your customers hang out on LinkedIn, dominate there.
- 16:15If they scroll Instagram for inspiration, live there. If they listen to podcasts during workouts, fill their ears with your message. Really easy to start a podcast these days.
- 16:28Now at Lowe's, faster quotes start at the Lowe's Pro Desk. Got a material list handwritten on a sticky note or saved as a photo? Perfect. Bring it to us and get a quote in minutes. And if you don't see what you need on the shelf, we'll help you get it. You can access thousands of products beyond what's available in-store or on lowes.com right from the Lowe's Pro Desk. Build quotes faster and source the materials you need to keep your jobs moving. Just like that at Lowe's.
- 16:58and then speak relentlessly. Consistency compounds. Remember, consistency beats intensity all the time. Don't post once and disappear. Don't record once and disappear. Don't speak once and wait for the applause. Show up so often that absence feels weird. Remember, attention is rented and authority is owned.
- 17:26One big point, believe in invisible progress. If you're waiting for the applause, if you're waiting for the numbers, if you think that I just got to get that one big guest or that one big break, thinking wrong. You just have to show up and keep going no matter what. And let me be clear, visibility isn't vanity. It's service. When people can see you,
- 17:53They can find help, hope, and direction, and hopefully purpose. You hiding your gifts doesn't make you humble. It makes the world poorer. So step out. Your story, your scars, your skills. Somebody out there is praying for the very thing you've been sitting on. There's a line I love from P.T. Barnum.
- 18:21You need two things for a successful circus, an elephant and an enormous amount of promotion. Translation, you need substance and you need to show it. What is your elephant? What's the thing that's unique to you? The result, the message, the mission that makes you worth watching, the thing that fires you up. Remember, it's got to be real.
- 18:48real authentic you. And if it pushes somebody away, they're not for you. So find that message and that mission. Feed it, parade it around because the market doesn't need another whisper. It needs a roar. And maybe that roar is your podcast, your brand, your leadership, your idea, family, or just your example. Whatever it is,
- 19:16unleash it. So here's your heart and life challenge this week. Write your declaration. I am somebody who, bam, finish that sentence every morning for seven days. I am somebody who is unbreakable. Number two is pick your platform. Choose one place to show up consistently. Commit to showing up for 30 days straight.
- 19:44I implore you people, if you are not leveraging social media, make that be your platform. Just grab it and post a story for 30 days. I assure you, I had a dear friend call me and say, Kelly, I followed the blueprint, and I've doubled my revenue. Doubled. I think it was three months. Number three, do the thing that scares the hell out of you. Go live. Speak up in the meeting.
- 20:10Post the truth. Make the call. Heck, I joined Toastmasters and jumped up in front of people that I've never even met. And the funniest thing about it is they're all older people than me. They don't understand me and I love every minute of it. Makes me feel uncomfortable. Every time you push through fear, you build proof that you're already enough. And trust me, you already are enough. You're here for a reason and you matter. And I love you.
- 20:40I'm glad you're listening to this. Thank you. I'm going to leave you with this. The people you admire, the ones you think have it all figured out are just like you and me. I feel the same fear. They face the same doubt. The only difference is they keep walking towards the stage instead of away from it. You're not behind. You're not underqualified. You're not even late.
- 21:09You're ready, my friend. The world doesn't need another copy of someone else. It needs you. Real, raw, and relentless you. So go out there today and decide you're somebody. Because you already are. Man, I have butterflies just saying that because I believe every part of this.
- 21:35I believe each and every one of you are good and meant to do something and you're here for a reason. And I'm sending you as all my love and positivity. Remember, I'm Kelly Siegel. If this hit home, share it with somebody who's been hiding their greatness. Follow me on Instagram at kelly.siegel.71. And please subscribe to the Heart of the Life YouTube channel. And remember, being harder than life isn't about struggle. It's about struggle.
- 22:02It's about showing up, standing tall, and deciding you're already the somebody you've been waiting for. Until next time, stay focused, stay fierce, and keep being harder than life.
