- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to the Kenny Wallace Show
- 0:04brought to you by Jags. Where's that Jags car?
- 0:07The leader in high performance aftermarket car parts.
- 0:11Remember to go to jags.com for everything and anything you need
- 0:16to fix your vehicles up. Well, it's Sunday night and I
- 0:20just got back from Texas Motor Speedway.
- 0:22Still wearing my dress shirt. Don't have my erase shirt on,
- 0:27but I thought we would break down a little bit of this Texas
- 0:29race and here's why it had it all.
- 0:33Let's start with Jimmie Johnson, our seven time champion.
- 0:37What's Jimmie doing? Can he pull this off?
- 0:41Jimmie Johnson on I think Saturday, He said.
- 0:46Man, these cars really drive different.
- 0:49I'm used to driving these cars off the right rear.
- 0:53In other words, Jimmy's used to being a little bit of a dirt
- 0:56racer, he said. He's used to going down in the
- 0:57corner. He's used to feeling the right
- 1:00rear do all the work and he got away with that and he won 7
- 1:04championships and he's one of our greatest NASCAR drivers of
- 1:08all time. So he takes the break, he goes
- 1:12and runs Indy cars. He kind of reminds me of, you
- 1:15know, MJ, right? Michael Jordan, you don't
- 1:19remember when Michael Jordan took that little break?
- 1:21He I'm done playing basketball and he went and played a little
- 1:24bit of baseball and he'd come back.
- 1:27But listen, I'm never going to say never to Jimmie Johnson
- 1:32because he's a seven time champion.
- 1:34Jimmie Johnson can do whatever he wants to do, but this looks
- 1:37like this is going to be a long road to hoe, so to speak.
- 1:42He spends out on Saturday, he gets away with it.
- 1:46He does a press conference in the Media Center and that's when
- 1:48he said, look, I'm used to driving the old cars off the
- 1:52right rear and he said up these cars, you got to drive on the
- 1:55right front, meaning don't test it.
- 1:58Listen, we saw all the spin outs.
- 2:00What was their 810 spin outs today?
- 2:03A lot of them, you know, on the outside going for the lead, but
- 2:07there was a lot of people spinning out.
- 2:09So Jimmy Johnson spins out on Saturday in practice and he says
- 2:13I got no practice. This is really hard on me.
- 2:16If I'm going to do this, I need a little bit of practice.
- 2:19There's not much NASCAR practice right now.
- 2:21Listen, we can line the excuses up.
- 2:23It's not excuses, but I'll go with Kenny Schrader.
- 2:27Schrader says. Listen, it's not how you run,
- 2:31it's how you place the blame. That's a good one from Schrader.
- 2:35So I agree with Jimmy though, this is a tough one for him.
- 2:39He leaves NASCAR, he comes back and it's a whole new car.
- 2:43He gets no practice even though he's a seven time champion.
- 2:47And as of right now Jimmy just can't get the feel of the car.
- 2:51But around around 147 laps of 270, whatever it was, he started
- 2:57getting there and then he got involved in another mission.
- 3:00So all right, Jimmy Johnson spends out on Saturday, spends
- 3:04out on Sunday, ends up getting in a wreck and Jimmy's just
- 3:07done. So feel bad for him, but thought
- 3:11we'd wrap up the Jimmy Johnson. It seems like a little test.
- 3:15Jimmy's working with legacy. He's doing a good job, he is
- 3:17doing a little bit of work on the team and he is a leader.
- 3:20I think over there I talked to Erick Jones and he says, man,
- 3:23listen, I'll listen to anything Jimmy Johnson has to say.
- 3:27All right, we're at 3 minutes and 30 seconds for Earnhardt, so
- 3:31let's move on real quick. All the spin outs, right.
- 3:35Crazy. I mean, that's how.
- 3:38Listen, there was nobody's fault.
- 3:40You can't go. You can't go.
- 3:42Oh, it's the car's fault. Oh, it's the race track's fault.
- 3:45No, this was a very difficult race track.
- 3:49You cannot go back and go. Let's change the rules.
- 3:52Let's put grip down. Let's build a new car.
- 3:55No, everybody had equal chance. This was a very difficult
- 3:59racetrack. I got to be honest.
- 4:02Hell of a race, hell of a show was like, oh, I mean, my butt
- 4:06was puckered up the whole damn race.
- 4:08Oh, there we go. I mean, you could tell that
- 4:10Denny Hamlin, when he was going for the win, it was basically a
- 4:15green light checker, right? We tried it three times.
- 4:18Green white checker. You could tell Danny Hamlin, he
- 4:22Danny Hamlin, he was peddling on the outside trying to get by
- 4:26Chase Ellen Oakhard, just come around on him.
- 4:29So yeah, so the race was just full of spin.
- 4:34Outs galore, very difficult race track.
- 4:37Once again, I don't think it was anybody's fault.
- 4:40I think everybody was loose and had nothing to do with race
- 4:44track. Same race, track.
- 4:45Been around for years so can't blame anybody.
- 4:48That's just the way it was. Difficult race, track, good
- 4:52race. All right, I this is my new one.
- 4:56Let's get to the good part. Finally.
- 4:59Chase Elliott. Wow.
- 5:01He does it. Listen, when we when we talked
- 5:06to Ben Kennedy on Kenny conversation, we said, you know
- 5:10what was the downfall of NASCAR? Well, Ben Ben talked a lot about
- 5:14it. He had good reasons, you know.
- 5:16But he said, listen, we see a distinct drop in viewership when
- 5:24Chase Elliott doesn't do good. And when Chase Elliott wins, we
- 5:29see a distinct uptick in NASCAR And.
- 5:33And here's what I said and and I'm just going to repeat myself
- 5:36because not everybody watches everything.
- 5:40Chase Elliott is the last of the bloodline of the greats because
- 5:45a lot of you strike me out. You said, well what about Ryan
- 5:48Blaney? I'm like, look, I love Ryan
- 5:50Blaney. I love his dad, Dave Blaney, but
- 5:53I'm talking about the greats, OK?
- 5:55We had like you know, Dale Earnhardt, senior seven time
- 6:00champion, his son, Dale Junior. You know, Darrell Waltrum,
- 6:04Michael Waltrum, you know, all that stuff, all that, you know,
- 6:08Richard Petty, Kyle Petty. What I'm saying and respond
- 6:11right here. What I'm saying right now is
- 6:14Chase Elliott is the very last driver of the bloodline of the
- 6:19greats that that's competing. Now, you can try to get me here
- 6:24and there, maybe Jeffrey Earnhardt or this or that, but
- 6:28just for the sake of arguing, go ahead and tell me right now.
- 6:31But this is the last of the bloodline.
- 6:34Chase Elliott's dad, the great Bill Elliott, was a champion,
- 6:37won it all, the first guy to win the Winston million at
- 6:41Darlington. And so when Chase Elliott wins,
- 6:46the people around 40 to 60 years old, they love it.
- 6:50I love it. I think it's great it.
- 6:52Listen, if it takes Chase Elliott to win to make everybody
- 6:56happy, I'm all in. So big win by Chase Elliott.
- 7:00And here's what was big about it.
- 7:03Comes back after that skiing accident.
- 7:05Remember Chase Elliott breaks his leg and we're all like what?
- 7:09You know, he's just not himself. He's still recovering.
- 7:11I said that. Well, looks like he's back now.
- 7:15Showed up at Martinsville, Ran real good.
- 7:17So I would say last what 4 races respond right here.
- 7:22I say the last four races. Chase Elliott's back, You heard
- 7:26it bar talk in the bar. Chase Elliott running good now.
- 7:31Now he really run good. Run the siren down there in
- 7:34Dawsonville at the pool hall. So Chase Elliott's back, he
- 7:38wins. He's looking good.
- 7:40Great interview, great interview.
- 7:43Felt he looked humbled, looks like he'd just been in a fight,
- 7:47broke the leg. He hears the whispers and I
- 7:52really liked, he said. Listen I got Hooters on the car.
- 7:56I want to pay tribute to Alan Quickie to finally get Hooters
- 8:00in the Cup series in Victor Lane.
- 8:02This is for Alan Quickie his family the whole deal very
- 8:05sincere. I I I had goosebumps I felt it.
- 8:08So good job Chase on the interview and and I think all
- 8:12the eyes are on you and I I think what I saw now this is me.
- 8:16You respond right here. What I saw in that that post
- 8:20race interview was a man that has been through a lot after
- 8:24being, you know, Chase has won a NASCAR Cup champion.
- 8:28This guy's good. He's won it all.
- 8:30He's done it all. He's won in the short track
- 8:33rings. He's won it all and and that's
- 8:35why he's where he's at right now.
- 8:38He's a great Rd. course racer. But I see a guy that won it all,
- 8:42went through some tough times. What has it been 4142 races
- 8:48since his last win? That's over a year.
- 8:49Well, listen, if you run every race in NASCAR, it's 39 races.
- 8:54So it's been well over a year. So congratulate.
- 8:58Hey, Herman. Quit saying so, so, so I can
- 9:02hear. I can hear my journalism.
- 9:04My my teacher quit saying so. OK, so all right, let's end it
- 9:10like this. Let The Herminator end with AD
- 9:13bullshitter the 2nd place deal. That was not William Byron's
- 9:17fault. I know, I know, Ross Chastain is
- 9:21upset. But we could clearly see Ross.
- 9:24He was he was running high. And I think he, you know what it
- 9:27looked like he got high, high, high.
- 9:29And he's like, oh, and he starts letting out of the gas.
- 9:32And William Byron does not wreck people.
- 9:36And he just ran. He packed him right in the ass.
- 9:38Yes, he did. Spun him out.
- 9:40All hell breaks loose. So listen, we are late on Sunday
- 9:44night. But I would I agree with.
- 9:47I agree with Brad Keselowski. When did that caution come out?
- 9:52Because when they were wrecking, Brad was underneath William
- 9:55Byron. Brad Keslowski thinks he
- 9:58finished second. Will they overturn it?
- 10:00TV was done. They they stayed a long time.
- 10:04TV stayed a long time. But we don't we don't have speed
- 10:07TV anymore. So you know let's see you are is
- 10:12Brad Keslowski, right. He said I think I'm finished
- 10:16second. He didn't say I think I'm
- 10:17finished second, but he's like because they congratulate him on
- 10:213rd place he goes. I got to ask NASCAR about that.
- 10:24So told you my opinion on everything. 10 minutes.
- 10:27I couldn't go any faster. I didn't repeat myself.
- 10:30I'm proud of myself. Oh, Herman, what are you doing?
- 10:32I'm breaking my back, breaking my arm, Patting myself on the
- 10:36back. That was balls of the wall right
- 10:38there, everybody. All right.
- 10:40Remember, please like and subscribe right here.
- 10:45What? Kim says.
- 10:46We get in the hot tub right now. All right, everybody.
- 10:50By the way, that right there. Remember when coronavirus
- 10:53happened and you couldn't go to the baseball games And they were
- 10:58making those stand ups. That thing is certified by Major
- 11:02League Baseball. Yes, Sir.
- 11:04EE on the back of that Hell, I don't care.
- 11:07Let's do it. Take it down right here.
- 11:11That may be certified. Yes, Sir.
- 11:14EE, there it is. Check it out, huh?
- 11:19Ain't that incredible? Certified.
- 11:23Pretty cool. So, yeah.
- 11:26All right, All right, everybody. Well, listen, that's Kenny
- 11:30Wallace show. That's where I get my opinion.
- 11:33And Yep, we're using the ring light.
- 11:35That's. I ran the Chili Bowl.
- 11:36Didn't do very good, but that's fun.
- 11:38So we got lots of got some stuff up here.
- 11:41Maybe one day I'll break it all down.
