- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody, and welcome to Cardinal Edition, the very first brand
- 0:12Speaker 1: new Cardinal Edition of Cardinal Territory, formerly Serving it Up,
- 0:18Speaker 1: but now we are Cardinal Territory. Same crew as it
- 0:21Speaker 1: was on serving it Up, same soup, reheated with me today.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Matt Holliday, Kyle Gibson, Lance Lynn, who is out hunting. So, guys,
- 0:34Speaker 1: thank you for being here. For Lance, I want to
- 0:36Speaker 1: say a special thank you because you should be in
- 0:38Speaker 1: a tree stand. How's everybody doing.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You have about thirty minutes, Jim, and then I'm out
- 0:43Speaker 2: of here.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We're going twenty five hopefully. We just had what I
- 0:49Speaker 1: would say is one of the most exciting world series
- 0:53Speaker 1: in recent memory. Of course, back in twenty eleven, it
- 0:57Speaker 1: was a really exciting one for the Cardinals, but the
- 1:00Speaker 1: Dodgers sort of outlast the Blue Jays. I'm a moto
- 1:05Speaker 1: named m V P. Mett. How I am gonna start
- 1:07Speaker 1: with you? We had I KF's lead, We had the
- 1:11Speaker 1: ground rule double. We had a very good decision by
- 1:15Speaker 1: Dave Roberts to get Tommy Edmond out there, out of
- 1:19Speaker 1: there in center field so that when the outfielders collided,
- 1:22Speaker 1: the catch was made. What stands out to you about
- 1:27Speaker 1: the World Series.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think that there was still a
- 1:32Speaker 3: possibility that Tommy Edmonds makes that play. So I think
- 1:35Speaker 3: that that's you know, obviously Pajas is a is a
- 1:39Speaker 3: good center fielder, but yeah, I mean I think Dave
- 1:42Speaker 3: Dave Roberts press pressed the right buttons there at the end.
- 1:46Speaker 3: I do think it's interesting to think about the lead
- 1:50Speaker 3: that I KF had at third on that ground ball.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It certainly would have made for a much closer play
- 1:59Speaker 3: had he his lead a little bit. I honestly I
- 2:03Speaker 3: thought that the Blue Jays were gonna win in that
- 2:05Speaker 3: at bad. I thought our show was gonna come through.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And then when you talk about Yamamoto pitching the next
- 2:14Speaker 3: day after throwing over one hundred pitches and coming back,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I would he throw three innings in the Championship in
- 2:20Speaker 3: the in game seven, That's pretty incredible. I I think
- 2:25Speaker 3: that I didn't see that coming. But I think overall
- 2:29Speaker 3: the World Series was amazing. A lot of different action,
- 2:32Speaker 3: a lot of different, uh, you know, plays that you
- 2:35Speaker 3: could kind of second guess or think what if I
- 2:38Speaker 3: would have done it this way or should have done
- 2:40Speaker 3: it that way? Or when should you bring this guy
- 2:42Speaker 3: in or so I I thought it all in all,
- 2:47Speaker 3: it was really good for baseball. I think even people
- 2:50Speaker 3: that I talked to that that don't really follow the
- 2:51Speaker 3: game very closely wanted to talk about it, and you know,
- 2:55Speaker 3: like I'm not a big baseball fan, but man, that
- 2:57Speaker 3: World Series was awesome. So I think that's good. That's
- 3:00Speaker 3: always good for baseball. When you get seven games and
- 3:03Speaker 3: you get you know, right down to the wires seventh game,
- 3:07Speaker 3: and two big markets obviously La and Toronto. I think
- 3:14Speaker 3: MLB is probably about as pleased as they could possibly
- 3:18Speaker 3: be with how things went.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Lance Lynn Yamamoto on zero rest, we're talking twenty four
- 3:26Speaker 1: hours rest. Maybe how impressive was he and what he
- 3:31Speaker 1: was able to do.
- 3:33Speaker 2: No, I don't think, like you can't really describe how
- 3:35Speaker 2: impressive that is, to be honest with you, with what
- 3:38Speaker 2: he's done through the postseason. Pitch the night before, then
- 3:42Speaker 2: come back in and throw two plus almost three innings.
- 3:46Speaker 2: To be able to do that with like even the
- 3:49Speaker 2: stuff that he had when he was in there after
- 3:51Speaker 2: throwing as many pitch as he did the night before
- 3:54Speaker 2: was amazing. So you know, he's lived up to everything,
- 3:57Speaker 2: especially this year, what they thought he was going to
- 3:59Speaker 2: be and over from Japan and just to have the uh,
- 4:04Speaker 2: to be honest with you, to have the balls to
- 4:06Speaker 2: just say, hey, I don't care if I pitched last night.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I got you. You know, he deserves everything that he
- 4:11Speaker 2: got with MVP and all that, because that was that
- 4:14Speaker 2: was special on a way that only somebody that stone
- 4:18Speaker 2: a hundred pitches and then tried to throw baseball the
- 4:21Speaker 2: next day feels, Kyle can contest. Uh, there's nothing worse
- 4:25Speaker 2: than the day after you throw a big league game
- 4:28Speaker 2: and then in the playoffs and throw one hundred around
- 4:31Speaker 2: one hundred pitches and then try to come out and
- 4:33Speaker 2: get hitters out the next day. And he did it,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and he got the win and helped them win a
- 4:37Speaker 2: World Series. That's amazing, Kyle.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I mean, zero wretched, We're talking zero. There's a guy
- 4:45Speaker 1: who I think had to gain, had to get adjusted
- 4:48Speaker 1: to major League baseball. Not only did he adjust, he
- 4:51Speaker 1: dominates in postseason. They talk about high stress innings every
- 4:56Speaker 1: inning and the postseason is stretched, and this guy was
- 4:59Speaker 1: able to do that with no rest.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yeah, and they weren't. They weren't three clean innings, right.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I mean he comes in with the the entire world
- 5:08Speaker 4: series on the line bases loaded one out and gets
- 5:13Speaker 4: out of it, uh, and then once again gets a
- 5:15Speaker 4: huge double play at the end to get out of it.
- 5:18Speaker 4: So I mean he was he had one clean inning
- 5:21Speaker 4: out of the three. And yeah, I mean, I think
- 5:24Speaker 4: for as much as people remember and talk about Madison
- 5:26Speaker 4: Bumgarner what he did in that World Series coming back,
- 5:30Speaker 4: this is the same thing, and you know, three times
- 5:33Speaker 4: as many innings and and even even more stress on him.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Pretty incredible.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Matt. The uh, the play with I with I kf
- 5:45Speaker 1: not getting a lead, I mean a lot was It's
- 5:47Speaker 1: fun to second guess. Baseball is beautiful for that. But
- 5:51Speaker 1: as I understood it and as it happened in real time,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm thinking, doesn't he have to stay close to the
- 5:57Speaker 1: bag in case there's a line drive to third? Like,
- 5:59Speaker 1: is that sort of how you balance it?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:04Speaker 3: I mean, look, I mean I think if there's a
- 6:06Speaker 3: line drive right at the third baseman and he's coming
- 6:09Speaker 3: towards the base, it doesn't matter how big your lead is.
- 6:12Speaker 5: So I think, yeah, I.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Mean, I look, I think I think we're just talking about,
- 6:18Speaker 3: like you said, this is like second guess. I mean, look,
- 6:21Speaker 3: it could I mean I'm just saying, if he'd have
- 6:24Speaker 3: had one more stet, what would that playoff look like?
- 6:28Speaker 3: And in hindsight's twenty twenty And and I'm not knocking him.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I mean he's a great player, and he does all
- 6:34Speaker 3: the intangibles. I mean that's the reason, you know, a
- 6:36Speaker 3: lot of teams want him, and he's been such a
- 6:38Speaker 3: good player as he does he does all the little
- 6:40Speaker 3: things right, So I'm not I'm not second guessing him.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I'm more imagining what that play could have looked like
- 6:47Speaker 3: had he been you know, just just one more hop,
- 6:50Speaker 3: one more crow hop on the secondary.
- 6:53Speaker 5: You know that that play would have been so close.
- 6:57Speaker 3: So you know, when when when it comes to winning
- 7:00Speaker 3: a World Series and you start looking at these very
- 7:03Speaker 3: tiny details that could have changed it for the other team,
- 7:07Speaker 3: I think that's what.
- 7:08Speaker 1: You look at.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I'm again, I'm not knocking him because i mean, look,
- 7:12Speaker 3: you know, he's like I said, he's a he's a
- 7:13Speaker 3: really good ballplayer. And and yes, you don't want to
- 7:17Speaker 3: get doubled off on a line drive. But like I said,
- 7:20Speaker 3: if if a line drives hit right as a third baseman, uh,
- 7:24Speaker 3: you're probably you know, you probably doubled off.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Anyways, But.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think that's an interesting, you know, point
- 7:33Speaker 3: to look at. I mean, bottom line is is I
- 7:36Speaker 3: think bar Show would tell you that he has to
- 7:38Speaker 3: get that ball in the air, he has to find
- 7:40Speaker 3: a way to get to get him home. Hitting the
- 7:44Speaker 3: ground ball right at a at a drawn in infield. Uh,
- 7:47Speaker 3: it's you're I mean, it's just you're you're out. And
- 7:50Speaker 3: that's that's just you know, in the big league infield.
- 7:53Speaker 3: So it was I honestly, at that point, I thought
- 7:56Speaker 3: the Blue Jays were gonna win. I thought bar Show
- 7:58Speaker 3: would get the job done, just the way he had
- 8:00Speaker 3: been swinging the back, particularly against right handed pitchers, particularly
- 8:04Speaker 3: against a guy that had just thrown on a hundred
- 8:05Speaker 3: pitches the night before.
- 8:07Speaker 5: But I think it's just interesting.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Going back to guy being able to pitch the next day,
- 8:12Speaker 3: to think about that guy's training in mindset, to even
- 8:16Speaker 3: think that he would come in and be able to
- 8:18Speaker 3: pitch the next day. I mean asking two pitchers like,
- 8:21Speaker 3: wouldn't you guys even I mean, would you even put
- 8:23Speaker 3: cleats on?
- 8:24Speaker 5: I mean, wouldn't you just wear your turfs?
- 8:26Speaker 3: And not even I mean wouldn't even think that, hey,
- 8:28Speaker 3: I might pitch tonight.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Like I don't know.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I guess it just goes back to me like thinking
- 8:32Speaker 3: about what this guy's day in and day out routine
- 8:35Speaker 3: might look like and how well he takes care of himself.
- 8:38Speaker 3: And I saw a couple of things where he was
- 8:41Speaker 3: throwing a plastic javelin which I don't know if that
- 8:43Speaker 3: has anything to do with anything, but clearly this guy's
- 8:46Speaker 3: looking for ways to.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Improve his attention to detail.
- 8:52Speaker 3: But I'm just shocked that he was even wearing cleats, like, honestly,
- 8:55Speaker 3: after a hundred pitches. I I don't know, I just
- 8:59Speaker 3: I think that's pretty amazing.
- 9:01Speaker 2: But it's all it's all hands on deck, right Lance,
- 9:03Speaker 2: I will say this, it's all hands on deck. But
- 9:05Speaker 2: I feel like that Matt didn't play with Kyle, so
- 9:08Speaker 2: this might be a jab at me. Knowing what I
- 9:11Speaker 2: did post game after throwing one hundred pitches been like,
- 9:14Speaker 2: no way in hell Lance would have been ready to go.
- 9:17Speaker 2: But that being said, in our World Series together, I
- 9:20Speaker 2: think I pitched, I was I was hot in every
- 9:22Speaker 2: game at one point. So but to your point exactly,
- 9:26Speaker 2: I don't think anyone's ever done that that I can remember,
- 9:29Speaker 2: where you throw a hundred inches in and you're in
- 9:31Speaker 2: there the next night. Not only was he in there,
- 9:33Speaker 2: he was like it was his ballgame, like and and
- 9:37Speaker 2: that's impressive. Not only what he's done to be ready
- 9:40Speaker 2: and be prepared to a would even accomplish that, but
- 9:44Speaker 2: Dave Roberts having the like to trust to let that
- 9:47Speaker 2: guy do that is amazing because most managers to be like,
- 9:51Speaker 2: no way am I putting that on somebody, not only
- 9:55Speaker 2: because of maybe injuries, but just the things that you're
- 9:58Speaker 2: gonna have to deal with if like technically he had
- 10:01Speaker 2: a fresh kershaw down there and he went to a
- 10:03Speaker 2: guy like, that's how much that guy he believed in
- 10:07Speaker 2: that guy to just say, hey, it's yours. So that
- 10:09Speaker 2: was amazing to be honest with you, Like, I was
- 10:11Speaker 2: shocked when I saw it.
- 10:14Speaker 1: You would have been ready once't you come.
- 10:17Speaker 5: I would have said I was ready.
- 10:18Speaker 4: And then when I go down to play catch and
- 10:21Speaker 4: I can't lift my hand up high enough to go,
- 10:25Speaker 4: I probably wouldn't let him know. You know, maybe just
- 10:27Speaker 4: having me to be last out of the bullpen today,
- 10:30Speaker 4: not the fourth out of there. I mean, I think
- 10:34Speaker 4: it was cool because every manager hit the right button.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Right.
- 10:36Speaker 4: We're not talking about one team losing this we're talking
- 10:38Speaker 4: about both managers hit all the right buttons at the
- 10:41Speaker 4: right time, and a pitch here and a lead there
- 10:45Speaker 4: is what changed the World Series. So I do think
- 10:48Speaker 4: it was very interesting as a starting pitcher seeing Dave
- 10:52Speaker 4: Roberts use all of his starters.
- 10:54Speaker 5: He knew his starters.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Were rolling at the time, and he made the decision
- 10:58Speaker 4: the night before or the day of, like we're gonna
- 11:00Speaker 4: win and lose by our starters winning or losing this thing,
- 11:03Speaker 4: which I thought was pretty cool. I kind of wondered
- 11:07Speaker 4: on the secondary for I kf are we worried more
- 11:10Speaker 4: about a double play or we worried about a lefty
- 11:13Speaker 4: being up and a throw from Will Smith picking him
- 11:19Speaker 4: off a third on a timing play. To me, that
- 11:22Speaker 4: probably presents a little bit more of you know, having
- 11:24Speaker 4: a lefty and having a clear lane to make that
- 11:26Speaker 4: snap throw. But pretty cool, good point.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I think I think they're worried about the night before too.
- 11:32Speaker 2: They ended the game on a double play the night
- 11:34Speaker 2: before it, so it's everything in one that might have
- 11:38Speaker 2: cost him, like the mishap the night before. That's and
- 11:42Speaker 2: that's baseball. It's like, hey, it's got to be through
- 11:45Speaker 2: or you know, it's like line drive, we got to
- 11:47Speaker 2: get back and then because of the night before, So
- 11:50Speaker 2: that's baseball, right, It's like, hey, we got doubled off
- 11:53Speaker 2: the night before, let's not end it, or let's give
- 11:55Speaker 2: our guys a chance with who's on deck, make sure
- 11:57Speaker 2: we don't get doubled up. So it just kind of
- 11:59Speaker 2: happens that and.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Matt on the on the ground rule double where the
- 12:04Speaker 1: balls lodge under the padding it I thought it was
- 12:07Speaker 1: played absolutely right. I mean, we've seen a Wrigley that
- 12:10Speaker 1: happened pretty much every game. There's one where, right if
- 12:14Speaker 1: if the outfielder tries to take the ball out and
- 12:17Speaker 1: there's a problem, then it's on him. Once you hold
- 12:20Speaker 1: up your hands and leave it up to the umpires,
- 12:23Speaker 1: then it's a dead ball. So I thought that that
- 12:25Speaker 1: was played absolutely right, even though I saw a lot
- 12:28Speaker 1: of second guessing on that.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it's pretty cool, or I
- 12:33Speaker 3: guess it's impressive that young of you know, outfielder hasn't
- 12:37Speaker 3: played a ton of Major League baseball.
- 12:39Speaker 5: He spent most of the year at Triple A.
- 12:42Speaker 3: For him to have the wherewithal to throw his hands
- 12:44Speaker 3: up on that ball getting lodged instead of going in
- 12:48Speaker 3: after it, I thought was impressive.
- 12:51Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean I think when you.
- 12:53Speaker 3: See as an outfielder, you see that ball kind of
- 12:55Speaker 3: get like jammed under there and there's no movement, I
- 12:58Speaker 3: think you immediately fill your hands up. The problem is
- 13:02Speaker 3: is it's at the empire's discretion, and so if the
- 13:04Speaker 3: Empire runs out there and sees that maybe it wasn't
- 13:08Speaker 3: really jammed, you.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Just give up an inside the parker.
- 13:11Speaker 3: So, I mean, I think it was a little risky,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but I think it obviously was the right play. And
- 13:16Speaker 3: like I said, it was a very very heads he
- 13:18Speaker 3: play from a player who hasn't hasn't I mean in
- 13:22Speaker 3: a World Series Game seven, and he's been in the
- 13:25Speaker 3: minor leagues, like I said, most of the season. Uh,
- 13:29Speaker 3: for him to have the wherewithal the to throw up
- 13:32Speaker 3: his hands in a big spot like that, and and
- 13:34Speaker 3: uh and and for them to get that call, you know. Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 3: I mean it's the right call. I mean, look, if
- 13:40Speaker 3: if the ball is jammed under there, you can pull
- 13:43Speaker 3: it out, But like you said, if you go in
- 13:46Speaker 3: there and start messing with it, that's when, like like
- 13:48Speaker 3: you said, Wrigley Field, you know you have a million
- 13:50Speaker 3: of those they teach you as as soon as you
- 13:53Speaker 3: can't see it, throw your hands up instead of going
- 13:56Speaker 3: on a treasure hunt and the.
- 13:57Speaker 1: And the Ivy looking for a white ball part of
- 14:01Speaker 1: a really really fun world series. You are watching the

- 15:12Speaker 1: Tim Hayes with Matt Holliday, Lancelan and Kyle gibbson the
- 15:15Speaker 1: new version of Cardinal Territory formerly Serving It Up. So gentlemen,
- 15:21Speaker 1: some Cardinals news that we wanted to get to. I
- 15:25Speaker 1: think topping the news, Mason win gets his first gold glove,
- 15:29Speaker 1: probably his first gold glove of many and Lance, I'm
- 15:34Speaker 1: gonna starll with you because you know this young fella
- 15:37Speaker 1: pretty well. There's a guy who made three errors all
- 15:40Speaker 1: season long and made highlight reel play after highlight reel
- 15:45Speaker 1: play all while having a bad knee for most of
- 15:48Speaker 1: the season, had a meniscus issue. How good is that kid?
- 15:51Speaker 1: And are we going to see a lot of gold
- 15:53Speaker 1: gloves on his trophy case?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah? No, I think you're looking at hopefully the start
- 15:58Speaker 2: of a run for him. I think people don't realize
- 16:02Speaker 2: is like the pride that he takes into taking hits
- 16:07Speaker 2: away from people. Everyone kind of gives him. He's very
- 16:12Speaker 2: You know emotional. He plays the game out with high
- 16:14Speaker 2: energy and stuff like that. So when we were with him,
- 16:17Speaker 2: Kyle Conntessus, they were worried about he would take some
- 16:19Speaker 2: of that emotion from hitting into the field and his
- 16:23Speaker 2: ability to switch it off and then go into the
- 16:27Speaker 2: field and literally his goal is to ruin someone's day
- 16:31Speaker 2: when they're hitting. And I love it, Like he's like,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I want to make a diving play so I can
- 16:36Speaker 2: look at that guy and just say no, like, I
- 16:39Speaker 2: just ruined your day. So that's why I love him.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It's like he knows that he can impact the game
- 16:43Speaker 2: in so many different ways and he wants to and
- 16:47Speaker 2: he enjoys it. So that's that's a beauty. And like
- 16:50Speaker 2: a guy like him with the way he feeds the
- 16:52Speaker 2: energy he brings everything he does. It's like, man, hey
- 16:56Speaker 2: you'r a goal glove shortstop. Like batt em lead off
- 16:59Speaker 2: and say hey you're my leadoff hitter, You're my shortstop.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Let's go, we go with you. Because the energy and
- 17:06Speaker 2: his desire to be great and also want to win
- 17:11Speaker 2: is pretty special for a young young player. And he's
- 17:15Speaker 2: the same guy every day. It's not you know, high
- 17:17Speaker 2: or low, it's like, Hey, I want to be the best,
- 17:22Speaker 2: and I'm gonna hold myself to that and I'm gonna
- 17:24Speaker 2: do it in a way where I'm ready to rock
- 17:26Speaker 2: every day. So I've got nothing but nothing but love for.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Mason and Kyle. You pitched with him behind you. What
- 17:33Speaker 1: does that do for a pitcher? Know, when you have
- 17:35Speaker 1: a young guy who really just wants to make sure
- 17:38Speaker 1: there are no hits on his watch.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Yeah, he not only is he fast, but you know
- 17:45Speaker 4: if he gets to the ball, it's getting the first
- 17:47Speaker 4: and it's gonna beat the guy there.
- 17:48Speaker 5: You know, his arm as.
- 17:49Speaker 4: A special tool that I don't know that anybody else.
- 17:51Speaker 5: In the big leagues hat.
- 17:52Speaker 4: So when the ball goes to the left side of
- 17:55Speaker 4: the infield, you're just hoping he can get a glove
- 17:57Speaker 4: on it, because if he does, it's an out you
- 17:59Speaker 4: want to. Gives a good defense, gives a starting pitcher
- 18:02Speaker 4: so much confidence. Ain't relief pictures, but you know starting pitcher,
- 18:05Speaker 4: especially like I was, you know, forcing contact and not
- 18:08Speaker 4: as much strikeout. You know, it gives you a lot
- 18:10Speaker 4: of confidence to know that you can let this righty
- 18:12Speaker 4: roll them all over. You know, try to get on
- 18:14Speaker 4: a lefty and understand that a slow roller is going
- 18:16Speaker 4: to be an out because he turns a lot of
- 18:18Speaker 4: hits and downs.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Like Lance said, and I think offensively, Matt, there's a
- 18:23Speaker 1: huge upside for Mason win Again. You know, when you're
- 18:26Speaker 1: dealing with a bad knee, you're not comfortable in the box.
- 18:29Speaker 1: We've seen this guy has some pop. I think he's
- 18:32Speaker 1: maturing as a hitter right now. He's had his surgery,
- 18:35Speaker 1: he's in recovery mode. What do the Cardinals have offensively
- 18:38Speaker 1: in your view of Mason Win.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Well, I think it's still to be determined. I mean
- 18:45Speaker 3: I think you like you said, I think he had
- 18:46Speaker 3: a good year. I think early he was really good.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Obviously had a knee issue, probably cost him some of
- 18:55Speaker 3: his pregame work, pregame prep.
- 19:00Speaker 5: No, I don't know what his ceiling is.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I mean I think when you start talking about fast
- 19:04Speaker 3: twitch athletes like him, I think, you know, Bush Stadium
- 19:07Speaker 3: is not a great place to hit home runs. So
- 19:10Speaker 3: I would say probably in the ten to twenty range
- 19:13Speaker 3: would be a good year. But the way he runs,
- 19:18Speaker 3: I think, look, if this guy can give you two
- 19:19Speaker 3: eighty h with with fourteen or fifteen homers and steal
- 19:23Speaker 3: some bases and play goal glove defense. That's a that's
- 19:26Speaker 3: like an All star you know shortstop every year, building
- 19:30Speaker 3: block somebody that that you can you know, you can
- 19:34Speaker 3: build your team around, and is a good start as
- 19:39Speaker 3: we look, you know, for the Cardinals to start to
- 19:41Speaker 3: compete back for playoffs and and for a World championship.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Having a goal glove shortstop who could, like Lance said,
- 19:51Speaker 3: maybe bat him lead off h at the top of
- 19:53Speaker 3: the order is a luxury. So I'm looking forward to
- 19:58Speaker 3: seeing what his offense trajectory will look like.
- 20:00Speaker 5: But if he works, you.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Know, like Lance says, and Kyle said, he likes you know,
- 20:06Speaker 3: he likes to work. He hold himself to a high standard.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Uh.
- 20:09Speaker 5: The talent certainly.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Says that that he could be an above average you
- 20:14Speaker 3: know caliber, you know, hitting shortstop that like plays, plays
- 20:18Speaker 3: great defense. So he certainly has all the tools to
- 20:22Speaker 3: be a perennial All Star.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And in the rich history of the Cardinals organization, he
- 20:27Speaker 1: is the youngest Cardinal ever to win a Gold Glove.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So kudos to Mason went Lance. Some other news. We've
- 20:33Speaker 1: talked about it in the other version of this program
- 20:36Speaker 1: with Yati. I think the good news for the Cardinals
- 20:40Speaker 1: is we expect their coaching staff to be back intact,
- 20:44Speaker 1: which is good because I think sustainability is a good
- 20:48Speaker 1: thing in some consistency. But he doesn't look like Yati
- 20:51Speaker 1: will have a spot to be on the coaching staff,
- 20:54Speaker 1: which he's expressed interest in doing some coaching in the MLB.
- 20:59Speaker 1: In your review, what's next for Yachty or what do
- 21:02Speaker 1: you where do you think he's gonna land? How does
- 21:04Speaker 1: it feel to you right now?
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm to be honest with you, I'm not surprised.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Full time is not a thing yet. I think that
- 21:14Speaker 2: maybe integrating if he you know, integrating him even more
- 21:18Speaker 2: as the season goes on. H I love YACHTI and
- 21:23Speaker 2: I love everything he's about. I think that the time
- 21:27Speaker 2: still might not be right for the everyday thing, not
- 21:31Speaker 2: only for him, but maybe for you know, family wise
- 21:34Speaker 2: and the team. It's just kind of a it makes
- 21:39Speaker 2: sense to I think, I don't know what they're doing.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I mean, you know, he got a new GM or
- 21:46Speaker 2: a new president taking over, with Ali being there and
- 21:50Speaker 2: stuff like that, it might be smart for everyone to
- 21:53Speaker 2: kind of just stay where they're at to see what
- 21:55Speaker 2: direction that him's going to go in Before everyone kind
- 21:59Speaker 2: of gets to a role, if that makes sense. So
- 22:02Speaker 2: I understand it not only for the team, all for Yati.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's like, hey, what direction is everybody gonna go in
- 22:08Speaker 2: under him? How's it gonna look? Blah blah blah, and
- 22:11Speaker 2: let me see how I fit. So that's my feeling
- 22:15Speaker 2: of the situation is, let's see how how this new
- 22:18Speaker 2: regime post mode is gonna look.
- 22:22Speaker 1: What about you, Kyle, what do you think might be
- 22:24Speaker 1: next for Yati? How do you view the situation?
- 22:29Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 22:30Speaker 4: I mean, I think he's probably gonna get a chance
- 22:32Speaker 4: to manage when he wants it, and I just it
- 22:37Speaker 4: probably just depends on how you know, specific of a
- 22:40Speaker 4: landing place he wants to be. If he only wants
- 22:42Speaker 4: it to be the Cardinals, then obviously you know, he
- 22:44Speaker 4: limits himself to the one opportunity. But if he's open
- 22:48Speaker 4: to other places, then I think, you know, probably just
- 22:50Speaker 4: about every year he's gonna have a chance and to
- 22:52Speaker 4: get a couple of really good interviews and have a
- 22:54Speaker 4: chance to manage. So in the meantime, I'm guessing he's
- 22:58Speaker 4: gonna keep you know, either being around the Cardinals or
- 23:01Speaker 4: you know, being in winter ball managing and getting you know,
- 23:03Speaker 4: even more experienced at that, not that he needs it.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I don't know Yachty nearly as well as these guys do,
- 23:08Speaker 4: but you know, I think he's going to get the
- 23:11Speaker 4: opportunity whenever he pulls the trigger.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Matt, you know YACHTI pretty well. What do you think
- 23:19Speaker 1: is doing with his situation right now?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:23Speaker 3: I think for me, I'm gonna be interested to see
- 23:25Speaker 3: if if Albert gets the Padres job or ends up managing,
- 23:31Speaker 3: if if if Yachty takes a role on Albert's staff,
- 23:37Speaker 3: what that might look like. I think that'd be interesting
- 23:40Speaker 3: if if you know, I think the one thing that
- 23:44Speaker 3: that I think has been interesting is that that Yachty
- 23:47Speaker 3: basically declared on social media and other places that he's
- 23:51Speaker 3: ready to get.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Back in full time. And I think that means every day.
- 23:57Speaker 3: And I think that means on a staff that show
- 24:00Speaker 3: up at you know, twelve thirty and doesn't go home
- 24:03Speaker 3: until eleven o'clock at night for seven straight months, and
- 24:07Speaker 3: you know, he seems to be ready to get back
- 24:10Speaker 3: into that life. And so, uh, there's certainly a spot
- 24:14Speaker 3: somewhere for him, and and and like you know, like
- 24:17Speaker 3: they said, uh, if if Cardinals, is being being the
- 24:20Speaker 3: manager of the Cardinals, is is you know, ultimately where
- 24:23Speaker 3: he wants to end up. Then it may be a
- 24:25Speaker 3: little bit, you know. I all, he's obviously one of
- 24:28Speaker 3: my best friends, and and.
- 24:30Speaker 5: So I don't I don't. I don't know how this
- 24:32Speaker 5: is all going to shake out.
- 24:33Speaker 3: But I do know if if Albert gets a managing job,
- 24:36Speaker 3: say the Padres, for instance, Albert would want to take
- 24:39Speaker 3: YACHTI and maybe maybe as his bench coach, maybe as
- 24:42Speaker 3: his you know, special assistant assistant manager. You know, you
- 24:48Speaker 3: can make up titles now in pretty much any way
- 24:51Speaker 3: you want, so I'll be interesting. I think that's the
- 24:54Speaker 3: one thing to me that's intriguing. I think Albert fits
- 24:57Speaker 3: the Padres really well. They have a lot of Latin.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I know, he's he's close with Loriano and Tatis and
- 25:05Speaker 3: you know, Machado and and so I think that's a
- 25:08Speaker 3: great landing spot for Albert. And then I think bringing
- 25:11Speaker 3: on Yati as a as a bench coach would be
- 25:13Speaker 3: pretty awesome. I mean, if I was a Padre and
- 25:16Speaker 3: that'd be that'd be the dream scenario for me.
- 25:20Speaker 1: You know, it's gonna be a fascinating off season to
- 25:24Speaker 1: see how that all shakes out with Albert and Yati,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and also exactly what direction the Cardinals will head under
- 25:32Speaker 1: the direction of heim Bloom. That's gonna do it. For
- 25:35Speaker 1: this first version of the new Cardinal Territory, I want
- 25:40Speaker 1: to thank lance Lynn who was itching to get into
- 25:42Speaker 1: a tree stand. Thank you for joining us, Kyle and
- 25:46Speaker 1: Matt Holliday. Thank you guys, and uh we will see
- 25:49Speaker 1: you for the next edition this week of Cardinals Territory,
- 25:53Speaker 1: and hopefully that edition won't suck
- 26:00Speaker 6: Fow
