- 0:29What's going on, everybody?
- 0:31We're back.
- 0:32The Sunday night CrossFit
- 0:33Talk crew is back in the house.
- 0:36After a two-week sabbatical,
- 0:39unintended but much needed.
- 0:42But here we are back again to talk.
- 0:44So before we get into much,
- 0:45I do want to preface a couple things.
- 0:48One, I got back from Dallas.
- 0:50I had a sinus infection.
- 0:52My doctor is now starting me
- 0:54from scratch testing everything again.
- 0:56So they have taken me off
- 0:58all antihistamines.
- 1:00so that they can test me for
- 1:02what I may or may not be allergic to.
- 1:04So that means that I am
- 1:06holding back an itchy
- 1:08throat that could turn into
- 1:09a cough at any moment.
- 1:12So I want to start off the show with that.
- 1:15So please bear with me if
- 1:16that does happen.
- 1:18I'll just turn it over to
- 1:19the ladies if I go into a
- 1:20full on fit and they can
- 1:23carry the show from there.
- 1:27other thing is uh we usually
- 1:30have a page where we have
- 1:32lots and lots of notes um
- 1:34about what we're going to
- 1:35talk about just kind of
- 1:36guiding us into a
- 1:37discussion it doesn't have
- 1:38like the full discussion
- 1:39that that isn't here
- 1:41tonight um I have wrestled
- 1:43for a week on what I wanted
- 1:46to say I have no idea
- 1:48what's going to come out
- 1:48tonight this is going to be
- 1:50completely unscripted um we
- 1:53haven't even really talked this week
- 1:55Generally,
- 1:56we are talking back and forth
- 1:57throughout the week and it
- 1:59has been pretty much radio silent.
- 2:01And so it may all just come
- 2:03out in one big onto the air tonight.
- 2:08So buckle up,
- 2:10hang on tight and we'll see
- 2:11what happens because who the heck knows.
- 2:15You know,
- 2:15I haven't even seen your haircut.
- 2:19It looks good.
- 2:21Wow.
- 2:21Thanks.
- 2:22Yeah.
- 2:22Right before I left,
- 2:23I usually always right
- 2:25before like a big event,
- 2:27get a haircut because when it's like this,
- 2:30it doesn't take a lot of maintenance.
- 2:32Right.
- 2:32Right.
- 2:33So it takes away five
- 2:34minutes in the morning of hair prep.
- 2:37Yeah.
- 2:38And you know, you're always rushing.
- 2:40Yes.
- 2:43Um, so yeah.
- 2:45And anything outside of
- 2:47CrossFit that you guys have
- 2:48been doing over the last week or so,
- 2:50just to kind of get away from it all.
- 2:53Um,
- 2:53I know I've needed a break here and
- 2:55there.
- 2:56So thank goodness the NFL
- 2:57season starting for me.
- 2:59I am my Chicago bears have
- 3:00played preseason games and
- 3:02I've been able to watch and
- 3:03they've done so well and
- 3:04everybody is loving what they're doing.
- 3:07And that has actually made
- 3:09me happy this week.
- 3:10That's good.
- 3:11Yeah.
- 3:12um, Lucas starts school on Wednesday.
- 3:16Absolutely insane.
- 3:18Starts his senior year.
- 3:20Um, and tennis has been in full swing.
- 3:22Uh,
- 3:22they actually had a tournament on Friday.
- 3:26So I had a very busy Friday.
- 3:28Like I was up at like four
- 3:29or five 45 in the morning
- 3:30to get him to breakfast
- 3:32before their team bus took off.
- 3:35And we didn't get home till
- 3:35like 10 30 at night.
- 3:36So it was over in Caledonia.
- 3:39Um,
- 3:40little bit South of Grand Rapids.
- 3:41So our 15 minutes away.
- 3:43Um, and it was, it was a hot day,
- 3:47long day.
- 3:47Um, yeah.
- 3:50So that was my watch.
- 3:52Yeah.
- 3:52Gosh,
- 3:53you should see my like stress just
- 3:56watching.
- 3:56It's like almost more
- 3:57stressful for me sitting
- 3:59there watching him play
- 4:00tennis than going out on
- 4:02the competition floor.
- 4:03I was a wreck.
- 4:04I was like, I'm going to throw up.
- 4:05Um,
- 4:09Lex S, senior, almost done.
- 4:10How are you feeling?
- 4:14I don't know.
- 4:15I'm feeling stressed.
- 4:16There's just,
- 4:17it's a lot like with him
- 4:19going back to school and
- 4:20tennis already starting and
- 4:21he still doesn't have his
- 4:22driver's license.
- 4:23So I, you know,
- 4:24I got to drive him to practices,
- 4:27which cuts some of my days
- 4:29shorter at the gym than I would like.
- 4:32Um, so I'm just, I don't know.
- 4:33I,
- 4:34I feel like my training's not where I
- 4:36want it to be, but that's such as life.
- 4:39Yeah.
- 4:40Uh,
- 4:40Bruce says my daughter's also a senior
- 4:42this year.
- 4:43And, uh,
- 4:44Jay Birch said the first year in 25,
- 4:47I didn't start school.
- 4:48Retirement is starting off good.
- 4:52When do you start Carolyn?
- 4:54I go back the 28th of August and yeah.
- 4:58So this week I started looking over.
- 5:01some stuff for the beginning
- 5:02of the school year.
- 5:03Um, but yeah,
- 5:04I have to be back the 29th of August.
- 5:06We have a PD day.
- 5:08Um,
- 5:09and then we have a long weekend for
- 5:10like the labor, um, Labor Day weekend.
- 5:13And then we don't start
- 5:14until I think it's September 3rd,
- 5:16whatever that Tuesday is.
- 5:18That's our first day back.
- 5:20So it'll be basically back for
- 5:23Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 5:25and that Wednesday evening,
- 5:27I'm back to California
- 5:28again for the NorCal Classic.
- 5:29So it's like going back for
- 5:32a few days and then right
- 5:33back to California.
- 5:35Holly, on the other end of the spectrum,
- 5:37just started kindergarten this week.
- 5:42Those were the days.
- 5:45So that's a good place to start, Carolyn.
- 5:49NorCal Classic.
- 5:51And Crash Crucible are like
- 5:53the two hot events coming
- 5:55up in the CrossFit schedule.
- 5:58I knew at one time you were
- 6:00considering doing both.
- 6:01Are they too close together to do both?
- 6:04Because I've seen some
- 6:05comments about maybe people
- 6:07could not do both events.
- 6:10No, I think you can definitely do both.
- 6:12Okay.
- 6:13Just curious.
- 6:15I think people will be doing
- 6:16both or if it's not crash
- 6:18and nor like they're doing,
- 6:20let's say water blues,
- 6:21a sort of SoCal and crash.
- 6:23Like I think you can do,
- 6:25you can do multiple it's the off season.
- 6:26Uh, you could always do, um, you know,
- 6:30the month,
- 6:31like the end of October and
- 6:32November off and then re
- 6:34pick it back up in December.
- 6:36Um, yeah, it's, it's no issue.
- 6:40I saw Jamie post.
- 6:41You did, uh, some of the crash, uh,
- 6:44qualifier.
- 6:46I did – so I was actually going to do,
- 6:48like, all of them just for funsies,
- 6:53just to get some intensity and kind of,
- 6:55you know,
- 6:55get some feedback of where I stand.
- 6:58But – so I did Thursday,
- 7:00I did the deadlift wall ball one,
- 7:02and then I didn't have –
- 7:03didn't even make it to the gym on Friday.
- 7:06And then yesterday I did
- 7:07Kelsu just to really trash myself.
- 7:10Yeah.
- 7:11If everyone knows what that workout is,
- 7:13a hundred thrusters with
- 7:15five burpees every minute on the minute.
- 7:18So I don't know.
- 7:19I might do the, Oh yeah.
- 7:21It's a rough one.
- 7:21I might do the seven rounds
- 7:24of the Bart muscle up strict dancing,
- 7:26push up one tomorrow.
- 7:28It looks like I like that workout.
- 7:31So I was talking to Haley
- 7:33and Josh Mario after I
- 7:35interviewed Haley on Friday
- 7:37and they were talking about
- 7:38how well those crash, uh,
- 7:41workouts are programmed and
- 7:44they love JR's programming.
- 7:45And so they actually
- 7:46incorporated all the
- 7:47qualifiers into her training.
- 7:50Yeah.
- 7:50Because it was a great like
- 7:52lead up to the Masters games.
- 7:55Yeah, I agree.
- 7:56Who's programming?
- 7:57Is it HWP?
- 7:58It says presented by HWPO.
- 8:00What does that mean?
- 8:01Is that are they programming
- 8:02the qualifier or is it JR
- 8:04doing the whole thing?
- 8:06I guess I was just confused
- 8:07with the presented by HWPO.
- 8:09So I watched JR's show where
- 8:13he released them last Thursday,
- 8:16and he definitely
- 8:17programmed the entire Crash
- 8:19Crucible qualifier himself.
- 8:22He did have Taylor look at
- 8:23them and give some feedback.
- 8:26He had some other people look at them,
- 8:27but he definitely programmed them.
- 8:29I think HWPO is just a sponsor,
- 8:32not necessarily a programmer.
- 8:33Okay.
- 8:36Yeah,
- 8:36I don't know why he would outsource that.
- 8:38Yeah.
- 8:39That is not what he needs to outsource.
- 8:41Yeah, that's why I was confused.
- 8:42I was like,
- 8:43it wouldn't make any sense
- 8:44because he loves programming.
- 8:45So I was just confused by
- 8:46that because I saw it was HWPO.
- 8:49presented, but yeah,
- 8:50those are some hard workouts.
- 8:52Yeah.
- 8:53Yeah.
- 8:54Hundreds.
- 8:55Um,
- 8:56we had the hundreds workout last year
- 8:58at crash and I saw that I
- 9:00that's the one I was like, I could do,
- 9:02I like it,
- 9:03but it's longer than anything
- 9:05we're going to see at masters.
- 9:07Um,
- 9:07which we'll probably talk about a
- 9:08little bit.
- 9:09So I was like,
- 9:09that one's not worth me doing.
- 9:11It's just not even a time.
- 9:12Don't mean we're going to touch, but
- 9:15Yeah.
- 9:15He said that he likes those
- 9:16long workouts that aren't
- 9:17necessarily just a
- 9:19monostructural movements.
- 9:21So wasn't surprised to see
- 9:23that first workout with the
- 9:25four movements at a hundred.
- 9:27It's like the first, like the,
- 9:29the row and the dumbbell snatch,
- 9:30the strong athlete will be
- 9:31looking at those two,
- 9:32but then not necessarily
- 9:33like the next two movements
- 9:34or the gymnast and cardio
- 9:37people like the last two movements,
- 9:38but maybe not as much in the first two.
- 9:40Yeah.
- 9:41Back half a workout for sure.
- 9:45Yeah.
- 9:47The other thing he talked
- 9:48about is he was asked like
- 9:49how many games athletes were coming.
- 9:51And he said that, you know,
- 9:53some of the people that he
- 9:55invited and said they were
- 9:56coming did better at the
- 9:58games than they initially anticipated.
- 10:01And really that this is a
- 10:03workout for people coming up.
- 10:05or like trying to come back,
- 10:07not necessarily for someone
- 10:09who's already on top and is
- 10:11currently there.
- 10:13And he understands that with
- 10:15like Rogue and the games,
- 10:20his event is just not big enough to like,
- 10:25and he understands that and
- 10:26he's fine with it.
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:28It just gives more people
- 10:29the opportunity to get some exposure,
- 10:31which I thought was a
- 10:32really cool way to put it.
- 10:33Mm-hmm.
- 10:38Um, Jeffrey Birchfield is asking,
- 10:40is Carolyn going to do
- 10:41trifecta rogue challenge?
- 10:44I do all the rogue challenges.
- 10:45So yes, I wouldn't say I'm at my,
- 10:48like the strongest right now,
- 10:50but I'll do my best.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53Yeah.
- 10:54What's the trifecta this year?
- 10:56Is it always the same or is
- 10:57it always different workouts?
- 10:58No,
- 10:58they do different workouts every month.
- 11:00Um, it's a max strict press,
- 11:02a max front squat and a max
- 11:03sumo deadlift.
- 11:06Interesting.
- 11:12Wow.
- 11:13Okay.
- 11:14Is it now in those, is it by body weight?
- 11:17Like, do you weigh in and it's no,
- 11:19or there's,
- 11:21so there's three weight divisions.
- 11:23Light, I think is 121 and below.
- 11:26Okay.
- 11:27Middle is between 121 and 168, 167.999.
- 11:29And then above 168 is the heavyweight.
- 11:31But then within that weight class,
- 11:32it doesn't matter after that.
- 11:41And then you have an hour to
- 11:42do all three and you have to like weigh,
- 11:44like measure everything.
- 11:46It takes so long to do a setup.
- 11:47I did the thousand pound challenge.
- 11:50years ago and just like
- 11:51measuring and weighing
- 11:53every single weight was
- 11:54like 20 minutes um but yeah
- 11:58so every every um month
- 12:00normally it's a different
- 12:01challenge like there's not
- 12:02many like crossfit
- 12:03challenges it's a lot more
- 12:06uh machine base or
- 12:07strongman stuff and then
- 12:09the odd maybe an olympic
- 12:11lift max or uh power lifting stuff so
- 12:17All right, well,
- 12:19let's get into the tough
- 12:22part of the evening's
- 12:23conversation that will
- 12:25hopefully allow us to move
- 12:26forward and into more discussion later.
- 12:30But the CrossFit Games
- 12:32happened last weekend.
- 12:34For those who... Well,
- 12:37let me start with this.
- 12:39The tragic event with Lazar
- 12:42Jukic happened on day one.
- 12:46Is there anything that
- 12:47either of you would like to
- 12:48say about Lazar or I just
- 12:52want to give you the
- 12:52opportunity since we're
- 12:53here tonight to do that.
- 12:56I've said on a roundtable
- 12:57that I knew Lazar.
- 12:58He was the first interview I
- 13:00ever did on Morning Chalk
- 13:01Up with his brother Luca.
- 13:04It was such a cool interview
- 13:05because they were both so
- 13:07giddy because they had made
- 13:08the games together.
- 13:10Lazar had refused his
- 13:13invitation in 2019 because
- 13:15he felt he wasn't ready.
- 13:16And then when he made it back again in 21,
- 13:18he made it with his brother.
- 13:21And they were so ecstatic about that.
- 13:23And it will always be a very
- 13:25fond memory I have.
- 13:27of Lazar, um, meeting him that way.
- 13:30And he actually was the
- 13:31bigger brother and did most
- 13:32of the talking because Luca
- 13:34was so giddy about making
- 13:36the games and giggly and
- 13:39that Lazar had to do a lot
- 13:40of the talking and,
- 13:41and be that big brother.
- 13:42So, uh, uh,
- 13:46That's a great memory.
- 13:46And I've run into him since.
- 13:49He's always kind,
- 13:51was always such a great dude.
- 13:54And it's been tough for me this week.
- 13:56I'm not going to lie.
- 13:57It has been when it happened at the games.
- 14:02My dad died recently.
- 14:04But when my dad died,
- 14:05I had my family around me.
- 14:08When this happened in Texas,
- 14:10I felt very alone.
- 14:12It's the first time I didn't
- 14:13take a travel companion with me.
- 14:17and um and I and I felt very
- 14:20lost and alone and I don't
- 14:22think I dealt with my
- 14:23feelings well over the
- 14:24weekend and um so it's
- 14:27taken me the better part of
- 14:28a week just to kind of get
- 14:30through that I did have
- 14:32some friends step in um
- 14:35And that helped during the day.
- 14:38But when you go back to your
- 14:39hotel at night and you're
- 14:40there by yourself with your
- 14:42own thoughts and own stuff,
- 14:45and it's not about me,
- 14:46it's just grieving is tough.
- 14:49The other aspect of that is
- 14:50my family grieves with laughter.
- 14:54Right.
- 14:55Um,
- 14:55we want to remember fondly about what
- 14:58is going on.
- 14:59And for most of the weekend, um,
- 15:03it felt like you didn't
- 15:04have permission to grieve with laughter.
- 15:08Right.
- 15:09And it, it,
- 15:10and I don't even know how you
- 15:12can to describe that.
- 15:15Um,
- 15:16Grant and Amanda did do that
- 15:18with me when we were in
- 15:20spots where we were kind of
- 15:21by ourselves and alone.
- 15:23But publicly,
- 15:24you looked around for
- 15:25permission to do anything.
- 15:28And it made it almost
- 15:31impossible to move forward
- 15:33from whatever grief you were feeling.
- 15:35And so...
- 15:38Again, we're unscripted tonight.
- 15:40There's nothing down what
- 15:42we're going to say.
- 15:44But that's why it's been a
- 15:46quiet week from us because
- 15:48it's taken me most of the
- 15:49week to kind of get through
- 15:52a lot of this.
- 15:55So do either of you have anything to say?
- 16:02It definitely shook Lex and
- 16:06I when we were watching the
- 16:08games on the Thursday.
- 16:11It's something that
- 16:12like you just don't expect to see,
- 16:14especially when like, to me,
- 16:16he was like the favorite to
- 16:18win the event and they were
- 16:19so close to the finish line.
- 16:21And just to, to think on like, just,
- 16:25I can't even imagine what
- 16:26it was like for those
- 16:27athletes that were there, the fans,
- 16:28the volunteers,
- 16:29everyone that was there
- 16:31because like just seeing it online,
- 16:32like I was visibly like
- 16:35shook for like a few days and it was,
- 16:37it was very difficult.
- 16:39Um,
- 16:40I can't say like I knew him super well,
- 16:42but I've obviously seen him
- 16:43at like a lot of the
- 16:45competitions I've competed
- 16:46at and he's always been
- 16:48very nice and smiley and stuff like that.
- 16:50And I was just always super, um,
- 16:54excited to see him compete
- 16:55with his brother.
- 16:56Like I think seeing, um,
- 16:59the joy of those two
- 17:01qualifying this year in the
- 17:02semifinals was, um,
- 17:06know you got excited to
- 17:07watch them finally compete
- 17:08together like and it was
- 17:10just it was tragic it was
- 17:13sad I was angry I was
- 17:15confused on just everything
- 17:17happening and yeah just it
- 17:19had me reflecting on the
- 17:21fact that like you know it
- 17:22could be anyone and um I'm
- 17:24not the strongest swimmer
- 17:26and like I when I had to
- 17:28even like swim the mile
- 17:29with the fins like that one
- 17:31year in 2021 like I was scared too
- 17:34in the water and I just
- 17:35think about like what if no
- 17:37one was there and I was
- 17:38panicking too so you just
- 17:39start reflecting on like
- 17:40different competitions
- 17:41you've done in the water
- 17:43and everything and just
- 17:46like how it happened it was
- 17:48yeah I mean it it's it was
- 17:50hard to watch it's like
- 17:53yeah it's traumatic yeah
- 17:58Yeah, I didn't know him personally either.
- 18:02I've been in the same room
- 18:06with him at the 22 games
- 18:08when I was back there with Jim.
- 18:09He was one of the athletes that... So...
- 18:15When it was all together,
- 18:16I would feel like the main
- 18:19individuals would kind of
- 18:20go off to their own section
- 18:22and stay private.
- 18:23And I'd say three or four
- 18:25would stay out in the
- 18:27bigger common area where
- 18:29your masters and teens were.
- 18:31And he was always out on
- 18:33that floor the whole weekend, like around,
- 18:36nodding, smiling.
- 18:37Like if you walk by, you know,
- 18:38like he just, he was a...
- 18:41very sociable person you
- 18:43could tell and um yeah
- 18:45everyone's stories like you
- 18:47just that you hear you're
- 18:49like yep that's that dude
- 18:50like that's exactly how I
- 18:52picture him how he was when
- 18:54I walked by um yeah and
- 18:59It shouldn't matter.
- 19:00Like he, like it just,
- 19:02he was an incredible,
- 19:03incredible person and it
- 19:05doesn't matter who it was.
- 19:06It just, it,
- 19:07it seems extremely tragic and
- 19:09extremely tragic when you
- 19:11have a brother there in the
- 19:13competition with you.
- 19:14It's I mean, yeah.
- 19:19So,
- 19:19the other thing I know about Lazar is
- 19:22he was a fiery, fiery competitor.
- 19:25Yeah.
- 19:26Right?
- 19:26I was in the media pit when
- 19:28he was getting no-repped on
- 19:30the front-facing handstand
- 19:34push-ups with the brick in 22.
- 19:36Mm-hmm.
- 19:37Like,
- 19:38and he is losing his mind over
- 19:40getting the no reps, right?
- 19:42Because he loved to compete so much.
- 19:45And last year, you know,
- 19:46infamously him and Justin
- 19:48had the bike wreck and the
- 19:50fire that came out of him there, right?
- 19:53So there was no right
- 19:56decision from the moment
- 19:58that happened to move forward.
- 20:00But I know in knowing him,
- 20:01he would want to keep competing, right?
- 20:07I'm pretty sure he would
- 20:08want to keep competing just
- 20:10knowing how he's acted.
- 20:12But,
- 20:12and I have no problems with people
- 20:14saying I cannot compete
- 20:15further or can or whatever.
- 20:19But what I'm having a hard
- 20:20time making sense of at
- 20:22this point is those that
- 20:24did go on and compete.
- 20:27And there I am in Dallas and
- 20:29I'm watching the whole thing.
- 20:33At the end of the weekend,
- 20:35what did we get out of this?
- 20:39Does any of it mean anything?
- 20:47I don't know how it came
- 20:48across on the telecast, but in person,
- 20:51there were obviously people
- 20:52that even though they stayed to compete,
- 20:57could not compete.
- 21:00So it was hard to do any
- 21:02kind of analysis over what
- 21:04you're seeing that we
- 21:06typically do on this show.
- 21:09Moritz Fiebig could barely
- 21:11get to a jog on anything
- 21:13because he was so crushed.
- 21:18I can't analyze his work.
- 21:20There was no doubt that dude
- 21:22is hurting bad and he's
- 21:25moving down the floor at
- 21:26whatever pace he can.
- 21:28So at the end of the weekend,
- 21:30do we really have,
- 21:33and I don't even know the answer to this,
- 21:34do we really have a fittest on earth?
- 21:42I mean, I'm of the opinion.
- 21:44I'll be honest that it
- 21:46should have been canceled.
- 21:47If I'm being honest,
- 21:48like I know I wasn't there
- 21:50and I don't know what it
- 21:51was like for those athletes to compete.
- 21:54Um,
- 21:56I feel like there was maybe there's no
- 21:58right way,
- 21:58but there's maybe better ways
- 22:00to go on with, um, the weekend.
- 22:03I still would have had like a,
- 22:05a Memorial and things that
- 22:07the community can still get together.
- 22:09but the thought of the
- 22:10competition was really hard
- 22:12for me to get behind.
- 22:14And I was really struggling
- 22:17to even watch at all
- 22:18anything because I was just
- 22:20angry all weekend.
- 22:22And I mean,
- 22:24there was athletes that were
- 22:25not competing.
- 22:26Like you said,
- 22:27there's athletes that are competing,
- 22:28but are visibly crying on the floor.
- 22:30There's athletes that are
- 22:31just better able to put
- 22:34that aside during the three, two, one go.
- 22:37And I just felt like you couldn't,
- 22:39you couldn't analyze the competition.
- 22:41And quite frankly, I didn't want to.
- 22:45Like, I didn't like watching.
- 22:47I didn't feel good watching it.
- 22:49And I just, I'm sure the athletes felt,
- 22:52you know,
- 22:52a similar way where they're competing,
- 22:54but they didn't really feel
- 22:56very good about it.
- 22:57And it was just, I don't know, like to me,
- 23:00like there was no winners.
- 23:01Like we all lost Lazar that weekend.
- 23:04And I have a hard time,
- 23:08saying that even the
- 23:09programming tested for the
- 23:11fittest on earth with the
- 23:12fact that two events are eliminated,
- 23:15one of the workouts were modified.
- 23:17And even with that,
- 23:18I didn't think the test
- 23:20also was as well-rounded as
- 23:24we've seen in the past.
- 23:25I just struggled with so
- 23:26many factors over the weekend.
- 23:33Yeah, I just,
- 23:34I think there were just other ways to...
- 23:40move forward with the
- 23:40weekend without putting the
- 23:41athletes in that position so fast.
- 23:44Even considering asking, let's say,
- 23:47Luca's family if they should go on.
- 23:49To me, that wouldn't even matter.
- 23:53They're not even thinking about that.
- 23:54They just lost Lazar.
- 23:59I just had trouble watching
- 24:03the competition for sure.
- 24:09I mean, I think Brent said this, like,
- 24:14if there was a tragedy when
- 24:16he was at home,
- 24:18he would go to the gym and work out.
- 24:19That's how he would grieve.
- 24:23And I do think that that holds true.
- 24:24And I do think the community needed to,
- 24:26like, come together together.
- 24:30I can only imagine if it
- 24:31would have been shut down
- 24:33and it would have been kind
- 24:34of radio silent,
- 24:35how that would have felt
- 24:37like a gaping hole for the
- 24:39whole community.
- 24:40Like,
- 24:42I think in a way we needed to work
- 24:44through this.
- 24:46Do I think it was the best
- 24:47way it played out?
- 24:47I don't know.
- 24:50I mean,
- 24:50I hear there was talks of all kinds
- 24:52of different, you know,
- 24:53more of an exhibition.
- 24:55um but again we can't judge
- 24:58any of any of the athletes
- 24:59choices um regardless of
- 25:02what they chose to do um
- 25:05and at the end of the day
- 25:06there was a set of tests
- 25:10and two people prevailed at
- 25:12the end the woman's side I
- 25:14don't think was going to
- 25:15matter no matter what um
- 25:16but you know there was an
- 25:18exciting race at the end of
- 25:19the men's side and
- 25:23Carolyn, we said it a couple of weeks ago,
- 25:25last year's tests were
- 25:27extremely upper body pulling biased.
- 25:32to say like these were a
- 25:33terrible set of tests or it
- 25:35just wasn't a complete set of tests.
- 25:37It is what it is.
- 25:38I feel like there's always
- 25:39something every year that
- 25:40somebody can say,
- 25:41and he's the fittest of 2024.
- 25:45James is like, like to me,
- 25:47it was just like, yeah, like he, he took,
- 25:49it's not, it's not James's fault.
- 25:51It's not anyone's fault that
- 25:52like competed.
- 25:53Like that's the thing that's tough, right?
- 25:54It's,
- 25:55it's not their fault that people weren't,
- 25:57you know,
- 25:57all at the same capacity to even
- 26:00take the test.
- 26:01Um,
- 26:02James was the best at taking it,
- 26:04followed by Dallin and so forth,
- 26:07and staying on the female side.
- 26:08It is what it is.
- 26:10To me, it was just like, I don't know,
- 26:13I just had trouble.
- 26:15We could still work out
- 26:17through things and do
- 26:18things as a community,
- 26:20but to put the competition part,
- 26:25I feel like, I don't know.
- 26:28I would have personally
- 26:30liked to have seen it a different way,
- 26:31but again, I'm not there.
- 26:33I'm not those athletes.
- 26:35I have a lot of respect for
- 26:39the athletes that decided not to compete,
- 26:44and I also have respect for
- 26:46the ones that put Lazar's
- 26:48name on the floor the whole weekend.
- 26:49It was not a good scenario either way, but
- 26:56It's just my personal
- 26:57opinion and my feelings
- 26:58towards the competition.
- 27:03Yeah,
- 27:03I'm kind of of the belief at this
- 27:05point that there were a set of tests.
- 27:08The decision was made to move on.
- 27:11If you passed all the tests,
- 27:13you're the fittest on earth.
- 27:16And this year they had to
- 27:18deal with something much
- 27:19bigger than any in years past.
- 27:22And I will say...
- 27:27Here I am, I'm grieving for,
- 27:28for Lazar and then people
- 27:31that I really love in the
- 27:33space really did well over the weekend.
- 27:37And I felt, I felt so bad for them that,
- 27:45that for like,
- 27:49they weren't allowed to enjoy it.
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:54Right.
- 27:56James has this personality, like,
- 27:59and he's so deep-rooted in his faith that,
- 28:02like, he seemed to enjoy the win.
- 28:06But, like, my dear friend Emily,
- 28:09who makes the podium for
- 28:11the first time in her career,
- 28:12woman is 34 years old, makes the podium,
- 28:17and she had an amazing weekend.
- 28:20And, you know...
- 28:22they didn't even put their metal.
- 28:24You guys didn't even see the
- 28:25award ceremony because they
- 28:26didn't broadcast it.
- 28:28Like they,
- 28:29none of the athletes felt like
- 28:31they were allowed to put the metal on.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:35And that's the sad part too, right?
- 28:36Cause it's not the athletes
- 28:37like fault and it's, they're put in a bad,
- 28:42they're put in a bad position.
- 28:43They were put in a bad position to,
- 28:46you know,
- 28:46make the call hours after
- 28:48whether they are ready to compete or not.
- 28:51Um,
- 28:52It looks bad if they post
- 28:53something on social media.
- 28:55It looks bad if they sell it.
- 28:56It's just like,
- 28:57it's very difficult in
- 28:58those positions for those athletes.
- 29:04But again,
- 29:05my heart just goes out to the
- 29:07Lazar family.
- 29:08And to me,
- 29:09that was the most important
- 29:11thing of the weekend was just, you know,
- 29:15thinking about him and
- 29:18finding whatever way people
- 29:19needed to grieve
- 29:22i can't judge the way that
- 29:25everyone did it but like I
- 29:26know personally I wouldn't
- 29:27have been able to continue
- 29:29on um with the competition
- 29:35yeah and trust me like
- 29:37lazar has been in my
- 29:38thoughts for over a week
- 29:41but I'm trying to find ways
- 29:43to move forward at this
- 29:44point not forget not any of
- 29:47that but just to keep moving forward um
- 29:53I've heard a lot of things.
- 29:55These are just some random
- 29:56thoughts about the weekend.
- 29:59What got lost in this thing
- 30:02is there were a lot of cool
- 30:04improvements from a venue,
- 30:08a media standpoint,
- 30:12that everything got swept
- 30:13under the rug because of what happened.
- 30:15And it should have been.
- 30:17It should have been swept under the rug.
- 30:19But that there were vast
- 30:21improvements this year.
- 30:23That arena was gorgeous.
- 30:28It was very easy to get into.
- 30:31Security was tight, other than security.
- 30:35But it was easy to get in and out of.
- 30:39My Uber dropped me off at the front door,
- 30:41picked me up at the front door.
- 30:42Super easy.
- 30:46they had assigned seats for
- 30:47media we've never had that
- 30:49in the past we've always
- 30:49had to wait an hour in line
- 30:51to get a seat to get into
- 30:52the arena to watch anything
- 30:54um the vendors were open
- 30:59and there were lots of them
- 31:00so the lines weren't so
- 31:02long like they were in um
- 31:06Madison, Alex said security was tough.
- 31:10Security was tough,
- 31:11but they say it's the same security.
- 31:13They give Taylor Swift the same security.
- 31:15They give a rodeo.
- 31:17It's that's just their arena policy.
- 31:23And security was done by them, not by,
- 31:25not by CrossFit.
- 31:28Um,
- 31:30But it was really cool.
- 31:32The fact that they had
- 31:33counters on some of the
- 31:34ergs for the first time ever,
- 31:36where you could actually physically see.
- 31:42I don't get why they
- 31:42couldn't have done that for Chad.
- 31:45To think that they were
- 31:47going to eliminate after
- 31:49the Chad event and cut the
- 31:51field and you wouldn't even
- 31:52know where you are in the race.
- 31:54Yeah.
- 31:54and to have no strength
- 31:56events even prior to that,
- 31:57like there's like a lot of
- 31:59like head scratchers for me.
- 32:01My guess is they didn't have,
- 32:04but I would have liked to
- 32:05have seen that counter for
- 32:08Chad because visually that
- 32:13it had four digits.
- 32:15So it could have done Chad
- 32:17even though they cut it to
- 32:18two 50 with the way they did it.
- 32:20I don't,
- 32:22i don't think they had 80
- 32:23counters I'm with uh andrew
- 32:25stenn I think they had 10
- 32:28one per lane uh and used it
- 32:31in events where they could
- 32:34uh larry young says um and
- 32:36I got to meet larry uh
- 32:38which was awesome um
- 32:41he liked the venue,
- 32:41but going back and forth to
- 32:43vendor village, he gave up on.
- 32:45And a lot of people did that
- 32:46because security was so tough.
- 32:48Every time you entered the either facility,
- 32:51you had to go through that
- 32:52checkpoint again.
- 32:53Yeah.
- 32:54That's what I heard.
- 32:55Overarching complaint was lines.
- 33:00Um,
- 33:02I don't know.
- 33:04I just saw a lot of it.
- 33:06As nice as the arena was,
- 33:09I saw far more comments of
- 33:12Madison was better.
- 33:13And they should have never left.
- 33:15Those are people that are
- 33:16just angry at everything else.
- 33:18The seats were not broken down.
- 33:21They were way more comfortable.
- 33:22The sight lines were better.
- 33:24Yeah, but if you can't get in to watch,
- 33:28does it even matter?
- 33:30What do you...
- 33:33you just have to schedule it
- 33:35or just being closer to the
- 33:36vendor village and
- 33:37activities would probably
- 33:38be easier from the Madison entrance.
- 33:40There were four major
- 33:41entrances with probably
- 33:44three security lines at
- 33:45each entrance to the main arena.
- 33:49You had lots of options to go in.
- 33:53I never stood outside for
- 33:54the venue longer than 10 minutes.
- 33:58You have a person, Larry Sane right here,
- 34:01he stopped going back and
- 34:02forth because it wasn't worth it.
- 34:03Now, Vendor Village I heard was bad.
- 34:08Well,
- 34:08that's not good because you need
- 34:09Vendor Village to be,
- 34:12you need that to be extremely accessible.
- 34:13You need your fans to go back and forth.
- 34:17Farrington Field was a disaster.
- 34:20People couldn't even get in.
- 34:23It looks like a lot of people got in.
- 34:24They were almost full on the one side.
- 34:26It was not full.
- 34:26You could see so many open seats.
- 34:30The home bleachers were almost full.
- 34:33The visitor ones, the outsides were empty.
- 34:37But that seats 20,000 people.
- 34:39We've never had close to
- 34:40that at any CrossFit event.
- 34:50Um...
- 34:53I don't even know what I was here.
- 34:55Uh, uh, Jay Burch.
- 34:57I got in cross fat said the
- 35:00line was for vendor village
- 35:02and the football field main
- 35:04venue was already great.
- 35:15Yeah.
- 35:15The main venue is fine.
- 35:16Uh,
- 35:21I'm telling you,
- 35:23I've been to Madison a bunch of times.
- 35:24I would be upset to go back
- 35:27to that old clunky arena
- 35:30again after what this was.
- 35:38The lighting was so much better.
- 35:41You could actually see people.
- 35:46My pictures came out way
- 35:47better than they ever have.
- 35:53Jay Birch, I was there.
- 35:56It was pretty full at Farrington Field.
- 35:59That's good.
- 36:05So, okay.
- 36:09So there's that.
- 36:12Anything else we want to say
- 36:13about the games before we move on?
- 36:18I do want to say
- 36:23All right.
- 36:25I've debated about saying this all day,
- 36:27but I'm going to say it now.
- 36:32The one thing that I've kind
- 36:33of decided this week is that,
- 36:37and it's upset me very much,
- 36:39so I don't know how this is
- 36:40going to come off,
- 36:41but when I feel like
- 36:46there's a lot of people in
- 36:47this community pushing
- 36:49whatever their thoughts
- 36:50were before going into the
- 36:51CrossFit Games,
- 36:53after the crossfit games
- 36:55using lazar's death and
- 36:59parts of that are really
- 37:00upsetting me right we don't
- 37:06know the facts of the case
- 37:07at this point there are if
- 37:11you look at the me report
- 37:12there's already been a
- 37:12prosecutor assigned to this
- 37:14case you know that this is
- 37:16going to go through the
- 37:17legal system in some way
- 37:20CrossFit announced that they
- 37:21are putting Peter Edge and
- 37:24former Homeland Security
- 37:26investigator in charge of a
- 37:29third party report to tell
- 37:32them what what they did wrong.
- 37:35There's a lot of facts for us to learn.
- 37:38One of the big things that
- 37:39is really upsetting me is
- 37:40whatever your agenda was
- 37:42before the CrossFit Games,
- 37:44and I've had plenty of
- 37:45agenda on this show.
- 37:47I've talked about things
- 37:48that I think CrossFit has
- 37:49sucked at or that they need to do better.
- 37:53People are using this
- 37:54tragedy to push that agenda
- 37:57that they've always had.
- 38:01There are legit beef...
- 38:03From what happened that weekend,
- 38:06that you could, whatever,
- 38:10that you could take from
- 38:11that and move an anger position toward,
- 38:16I get that.
- 38:21Regardless,
- 38:24that's been very upsetting to
- 38:25me this week.
- 38:27Because one of the things
- 38:28that I've always complained
- 38:29about is that communication
- 38:31from CrossFit has been horrible.
- 38:34And during this weekend,
- 38:36that was on display.
- 38:37Media had no freaking idea
- 38:40what was going on at any time.
- 38:43We had to hear from other
- 38:44people whether we were moving on or not.
- 38:49Like if we had a connection
- 38:50with an athlete or a
- 38:51connection with... They
- 38:53didn't even speak to the
- 38:54third-party media.
- 38:56Our liaison wasn't even in
- 38:58the room until Saturday.
- 39:07And then a week later to say,
- 39:09we're not doing any more
- 39:10swim events until further investigation.
- 39:13You could have said that
- 39:15Thursday afternoon.
- 39:19Well,
- 39:19I think there obviously is going to
- 39:21be some, I mean, in my opinion,
- 39:23lawsuits and stuff like that right now.
- 39:24And while they're,
- 39:25name is on a lot of these competitions,
- 39:28like they're gonna wanna
- 39:29figure out what the best, you know,
- 39:32safety protocols will be
- 39:34going forward so that it's
- 39:35consistent with every event.
- 39:37Cause it's not consistent
- 39:38right now between every event.
- 39:42And to go back on your point
- 39:43of like people using what
- 39:45happened to push like other agendas.
- 39:48I mean,
- 39:49people have their own opinions of
- 39:51everything, but to me, like,
- 39:55I'm still angry with what
- 39:57happened with CrossFit and
- 39:59it's just like accumulation of things,
- 40:00I think,
- 40:01and a buildup of frustration and anger.
- 40:04And then there's things that
- 40:05we saw with our own eyes,
- 40:06like on the video, right?
- 40:07Like you literally, we know what we saw.
- 40:10So it's hard to be like, uh,
- 40:12we're waiting for investigation a,
- 40:14B and C to get done.
- 40:15Like,
- 40:15obviously there's a lot more
- 40:16information missing,
- 40:18but we still saw a lot to
- 40:21still make like our own, um,
- 40:25not opinions, but our own, I guess,
- 40:27judgment, I guess of it.
- 40:30Yeah.
- 40:30And I don't,
- 40:31I don't know what the answer
- 40:32is to everyone else or people,
- 40:35not everyone,
- 40:36but possibly pushing other things.
- 40:38Like it just should all just
- 40:39be about athlete safety,
- 40:42Lazar's family and how we
- 40:44can prevent this from ever, ever,
- 40:47ever happening again,
- 40:48because in all honesty,
- 40:49we have been so lucky that this is,
- 40:54this has not happened before.
- 40:56When I look back on some of
- 40:57the competitions that I've
- 40:58had swimming very early in
- 41:00the morning for certain,
- 41:01for certain groups,
- 41:02not enough people in the
- 41:03water and you know,
- 41:04other things like to have
- 41:07consistency between the
- 41:09competitions I think can only be good.
- 41:12And I'm hopeful that, you know,
- 41:16some positive can come out
- 41:17of this to protect, um,
- 41:20the athletes going forward.
- 41:22And it doesn't mean
- 41:23eliminating everything.
- 41:24It doesn't mean swimming
- 41:25can't come back because
- 41:26people are like losing
- 41:27their mind over that.
- 41:29I don't like swimming can come back,
- 41:31but I think it's having
- 41:32consistency between each
- 41:33comp and some comps will be like, Oh,
- 41:35we've done it this way.
- 41:36We've never had anything go wrong.
- 41:38It doesn't mean because you
- 41:38have had nothing go wrong,
- 41:40that your competition has
- 41:41had the perfect also, um,
- 41:43protocols because that's
- 41:44not the case also.
- 41:46So just to have, you know,
- 41:48maybe bring in more people,
- 41:49bring in some experts and
- 41:51figure out what works best
- 41:53and to have it consistent,
- 41:54consistent will be very
- 41:56important going forward.
- 41:59In no way am I saying that.
- 42:01And like,
- 42:02I understand athletes have the
- 42:04right to be angry.
- 42:06Like, like you said before,
- 42:11you're not a strong swimmer.
- 42:12Like,
- 42:15would they have gotten me?
- 42:16Would they have, you know,
- 42:18like I get the anger there.
- 42:21And so it's more from other
- 42:22directions that I'm, you know, and there,
- 42:32there's two things.
- 42:33I'm,
- 42:33I'm upset that people are using a
- 42:36man's death to push an
- 42:37agenda that they've always had.
- 42:39And I always,
- 42:40and I also feel like I saw a lot of,
- 42:46non authentic people this week.
- 42:50And with that,
- 42:52I was hurt because some of
- 42:54those people I never
- 42:56thought I would see be inauthentic.
- 43:02And
- 43:05one thing lazar always was
- 43:07was an authentic human and
- 43:10to use his death in a way
- 43:12that is inauthentic just
- 43:14really hurt me and I've
- 43:15been struggling with all
- 43:16week yeah so yeah and
- 43:23there's just been I think
- 43:24there's been a like with
- 43:25some of that stuff because
- 43:27there was lack of
- 43:27communication there's been
- 43:28a lot of talk and chat and
- 43:31chatter here and there without
- 43:36without names being said.
- 43:37So then people are just judging people.
- 43:38And I don't like that at all.
- 43:44Yeah.
- 43:45You don't have to say names.
- 43:47You can go through Instagram
- 43:48and you can pretty easily
- 43:50tell who is being inauthentic and not.
- 44:01So.
- 44:05Yeah.
- 44:05Yeah.
- 44:07So those are the things that
- 44:09I wanted to bring up.
- 44:14I think we've covered all
- 44:15the news from the games.
- 44:18Anything else you guys want to talk about?
- 44:21Or we can move on to... I think,
- 44:26in my hope,
- 44:27I want to move on to a
- 44:28competition that may help
- 44:30us move forward.
- 44:32A competition that
- 44:33represents what CrossFit was founded on,
- 44:36and that is...
- 44:38to make people healthy late in life,
- 44:40to be able to play with their grandkids,
- 44:43to be able to get off the
- 44:44toilet at the age of 65,
- 44:45to do those things.
- 44:49And what the origins of
- 44:51CrossFit were about.
- 44:53And that is the Masters
- 44:54CrossFit Games that are
- 44:55coming up Labor Day weekend.
- 44:59Our very own Jamie Latimer
- 45:01is going to compete.
- 45:03I saw you got your shirts in.
- 45:05Have you been able to get
- 45:07them out to everybody?
- 45:08I think everyone, Craig's in the chat.
- 45:11I'm curious if he got his.
- 45:12I think Holly was here.
- 45:14Curious if she got hers.
- 45:20Yeah, I think pretty much there's like,
- 45:23I still have like 10 at the
- 45:24gym that people need to
- 45:25come in and pick up,
- 45:26but I mailed them all out.
- 45:29Craig got his.
- 45:30Awesome.
- 45:32Take a picture in it, Craig.
- 45:33Tag me.
- 45:34I love to see them on people.
- 45:41With that,
- 45:42you had a meeting with the organizers.
- 45:44We did.
- 45:45We had a 30-minute
- 45:46informational meeting on Thursday.
- 45:50I think Tuesday or Wednesday,
- 45:53we received an athlete
- 45:55packet with some heat times and
- 45:59basically a general schedule.
- 46:01And so it was pretty clear
- 46:02from that email that there's 10 events.
- 46:05Um, we have three on Thursday,
- 46:07two on Friday,
- 46:08three on Saturday and two on Sunday,
- 46:13obviously no swimming, um,
- 46:15all in the convention center.
- 46:18They did say, because people were asking,
- 46:20will, will we be going outside?
- 46:23Do we need to be prepared?
- 46:24Um, they said there was one event,
- 46:26probably something like, um,
- 46:32Like when they did Helena
- 46:33last year for the individuals, like,
- 46:35and it got running like a
- 46:36200 or 400 that we didn't get details,
- 46:38but he said,
- 46:38you will run outside the
- 46:40venue and back in and do
- 46:42some stuff for four rounds.
- 46:44So, um,
- 46:46that's our only exposure to the
- 46:49outside air that we'll get.
- 46:50Otherwise we're inside the venue.
- 46:53The whole weekend,
- 46:5355 plus only has eight events.
- 46:59So there's two events that
- 47:01just the younger age groups have,
- 47:06whether it's ability, capacity,
- 47:11just volume tolerance.
- 47:13One of them is Thursday's
- 47:15first workout for us.
- 47:16It's a three-minute workout, so...
- 47:22get assume what you want
- 47:23from that um and then yeah
- 47:26they're kind of short for
- 47:28my liking we have a two
- 47:30minute event a three minute
- 47:31event a five minute event
- 47:33two eight minute events um
- 47:35so half of our events are
- 47:36eight minutes or less and
- 47:37then we have a 11 12 13 15
- 47:40and 18 minutes is our
- 47:41longest event and those are
- 47:47the cap times not
- 47:48Correct.
- 47:49And yeah,
- 47:49it could be a four round for time
- 47:51with 18 minute cap.
- 47:54Right.
- 47:55Exactly.
- 47:58Yeah.
- 47:59I know that when that came out,
- 48:00you weren't the most
- 48:01excited friend I've ever
- 48:02had because you like those long,
- 48:05long grindy chippers.
- 48:07Yeah.
- 48:12Yeah.
- 48:13Yeah.
- 48:16I think it's because they
- 48:17have way too many people.
- 48:18Yes.
- 48:22They confirmed that they did
- 48:23all the programming.
- 48:25So I don't know.
- 48:26I think we all thought maybe
- 48:28Castro or Boz would have
- 48:30some say in this and it doesn't appear.
- 48:33I don't think they got...
- 48:36Haley asked on the...
- 48:38Murillo asked on there if
- 48:39there would be like
- 48:40handstand ramp or anything
- 48:41we need to prepare for.
- 48:42And they said no.
- 48:45Like they tried to get some stuff.
- 48:48Basically,
- 48:48they said it's going to be very...
- 48:50bait like everything you can
- 48:52find in your everyday gym
- 48:53so again I just feel like
- 48:56the budget cuts like don't
- 48:58give us much we just get
- 49:00what we get and it is what
- 49:03it is so andrew stan who is
- 49:07a part of that leadership
- 49:09group for masters says
- 49:10crossfit did have input oh
- 49:14One thing that surprised me, sorry,
- 49:17going back to the games,
- 49:18was the similarity with the
- 49:20team workouts and the
- 49:21individuals this year were much closer,
- 49:23I think, than in the past.
- 49:25So I was wondering maybe the
- 49:26Masters would have some sort of carryover,
- 49:29possibly one or two events.
- 49:30I'd just be curious if we
- 49:32would see something like that.
- 49:35Yeah.
- 49:35I was very curious too.
- 49:36Like, I mean,
- 49:37that's why I tried to pay
- 49:38attention to the
- 49:38individuals just to glean anything.
- 49:42Would there be a workout
- 49:44that we would do like the
- 49:45Dickies triplet or something like that?
- 49:47Like, could that be the one we see?
- 49:51Yeah.
- 49:53Cause that would be
- 49:53interesting to see a
- 49:54trickle like down effect
- 49:57between all the divisions.
- 49:58Then there's like a
- 49:59comparison throughout the ages.
- 50:01Yeah.
- 50:03on a certain baseline workout.
- 50:06Yeah.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:09And just remember the,
- 50:13Sean Woodland and Chase
- 50:15Ingram are calling the Masters games.
- 50:18So you're getting an A-team
- 50:20in there calling the stream.
- 50:22It's not the iPhone 5 from the roof.
- 50:24It is an actual professional
- 50:27stream with really good announcers.
- 50:33Tommy Marquez and Lauren
- 50:35Khalil are doing the floor stuff,
- 50:37I believe.
- 50:38So, yeah.
- 50:44There's three floors.
- 50:45I don't know how that will
- 50:46look broadcast wise.
- 50:49Um,
- 50:50I don't know if they're out of the
- 50:51arena or the convention
- 50:53center or whatever.
- 50:54Like there's two distinct areas.
- 50:58I don't know where you're
- 50:59squeezing in a third,
- 51:00unless it's like for maybe
- 51:02that three minute, you know what I mean?
- 51:05Like something you can just
- 51:07kind of run through.
- 51:08Yeah.
- 51:09So I'm guessing, so one,
- 51:10it sounds like from what he said,
- 51:12one of the floors is going
- 51:13to look like that side floor at MFC,
- 51:16just lanes.
- 51:19And then one of the floors
- 51:21has a large normal rig,
- 51:25probably your 15 foot rig with ropes.
- 51:27Um,
- 51:27and then one of the floors has your
- 51:30smaller A-frame rig.
- 51:33So one is just going to be
- 51:34like those lanes, um,
- 51:37just like at MFC.
- 51:38So that'll be a,
- 51:40probably a much smaller area.
- 51:42Okay.
- 51:45It's going to be tough
- 51:45covering all those floors.
- 51:48Yeah.
- 51:48And so like, I'm kind of curious,
- 51:49does like floor three,
- 51:51say floor three is the small,
- 51:53no equipment floor essentially.
- 51:55Um, does that not get a camera on it?
- 51:57Does that one not get broadcast?
- 51:59I don't know.
- 52:02Yeah.
- 52:03I don't know.
- 52:05Uh,
- 52:08There's no obstacles, John.
- 52:11Well,
- 52:12they could do cones versus the stairs
- 52:14like a zigzag.
- 52:18Yeah.
- 52:19You did the rampant crash last year.
- 52:22Yeah.
- 52:26Don't, yeah, me.
- 52:27I saw it.
- 52:27It wasn't great.
- 52:28It was the first time you'd
- 52:31ever attempted it.
- 52:32Yeah.
- 52:33I haven't done it since.
- 52:36What do you know, John?
- 52:37Share.
- 52:38Is there more leaks in the
- 52:40masters than the individuals?
- 52:45If you know, someone else knows,
- 52:48share with the rest of the class.
- 52:50Also, that's ridiculous, again,
- 52:52with the leaks that happen.
- 52:55But again, not surprised.
- 52:57I say it every year that there's leaks.
- 52:59Mm-hmm.
- 53:00Can I just say one more
- 53:01positive from the games weekend?
- 53:03I really enjoyed the 200
- 53:05meter run inside the arena.
- 53:07Yeah.
- 53:09I like that so much better
- 53:11than an assault runner or
- 53:13anything like that.
- 53:14And it visibly or visually,
- 53:16it looked really good.
- 53:18So easy to tell who was in first,
- 53:21who wasn't.
- 53:22Yeah.
- 53:22Anytime you can have a, you know,
- 53:25a foot race and you can see
- 53:26where you're at.
- 53:27It's, it always looks good.
- 53:30now the bumping and the the
- 53:33rubbing is racing happened
- 53:34a lot on the men's side for
- 53:35sure and a little tiny bit
- 53:38on the women's side yeah um
- 53:44So we're super excited.
- 53:46We're going to be there for
- 53:47the entire weekend.
- 53:49Hopefully I can get Carolyn
- 53:50on in the evenings to do
- 53:51wrap-up shows with me from there.
- 53:55Jamie will be competing,
- 53:56so she'll be a little bit busy.
- 53:58Maybe she'll pop on for five
- 53:59minutes and just give us an
- 54:01update of the day.
- 54:02But we have our team
- 54:03together for the behind-the-scenes,
- 54:06which is now officially
- 54:07going to be myself and
- 54:09Ellie Hiller will be doing
- 54:10the interviews in the back.
- 54:13Jonathan Ortega and my
- 54:17friend Caitlin Walters will
- 54:19be doing the video of the floor.
- 54:23And Holly will be doing all
- 54:26the stats and graphics for
- 54:29the behind-the-scenes.
- 54:31So...
- 54:32Hoping to put that together.
- 54:34Still looking for a couple more sponsors,
- 54:35hopefully.
- 54:36We'll get some, but yeah,
- 54:39super excited about that.
- 54:41And the Masters community is
- 54:43so excited for it.
- 54:45And I've had so much fun talking to them.
- 54:47You are killing it with the interviews.
- 54:52So much fun.
- 54:54The bad thing is, you know,
- 54:56generally when I interview somebody,
- 54:57we go off the off air and
- 54:59then we chat for a little bit.
- 55:01These,
- 55:02these athletes want to chat Haley
- 55:05and Josh.
- 55:06Like I'm like, guys,
- 55:07I have an interview in like
- 55:08three minutes.
- 55:08I've got to go.
- 55:09Um, but they're just,
- 55:13they're just the sweetest people, man.
- 55:15Is Haley going back to crash?
- 55:19Uh, I don't think so.
- 55:20No,
- 55:22I don't think they have masters this
- 55:23year.
- 55:23Do they?
- 55:24Yeah.
- 55:24They do?
- 55:26Well, J.R.
- 55:27asked me if I'm coming back.
- 55:28Okay.
- 55:30Maybe she is.
- 55:31We didn't really get into it.
- 55:34They were bragging on J.R.
- 55:35's programming.
- 55:36Yeah.
- 55:37And they're doing all the qualifiers,
- 55:38so maybe.
- 55:40Yeah.
- 55:43But she doesn't feel like
- 55:44she's really in shape
- 55:47because she's been a coach
- 55:49more than an athlete.
- 55:50Oh, she's working out alongside Haley.
- 55:52She's incredibly fit.
- 55:55she said to me that it appears that way,
- 55:58but there's a lot of stuff
- 55:59she could not hang with Haley.
- 56:02And so she, she didn't even try,
- 56:06but there was stuff that
- 56:07like Kaylee needed to push on.
- 56:09And so Haley Maria would
- 56:11jump in and push her.
- 56:14Um, but yeah, so we have that coming up.
- 56:19Um, then one interesting thing I saw, uh,
- 56:21is rogue is developing an echo rower.
- 56:28Because they took away the
- 56:30Easy Bike by making the Echo Bike.
- 56:33Now they're going to take
- 56:34away the Easy Rower?
- 56:35The Easy Bike.
- 56:38Do you think it's going to
- 56:38be like the Assault Runner style?
- 56:40Or the Assault Rower style?
- 56:45I don't know.
- 56:46I'm curious.
- 56:48It's probably just going to
- 56:49be made so strong that it's
- 56:52indestructible.
- 56:54The C2 Rower already is indestructible.
- 56:58You don't need to mess with a good thing.
- 57:03They want to take over the world, Pinky.
- 57:08The gyms are all outfitted with C2 rowers.
- 57:11That is the standard.
- 57:12We do not need another piece of equipment.
- 57:16Gyms have invested thousands
- 57:18of dollars on 20 plus rowers.
- 57:22And then you want to throw
- 57:22in this other piece of equipment?
- 57:24No.
- 57:24No.
- 57:27That's a great point.
- 57:28All right.
- 57:33Well,
- 57:34Waterpalooza SoCal has also announced
- 57:39their partnership with the PFAA.
- 57:42So they are partnering.
- 57:44This is not new.
- 57:45Waterpalooza Miami did that in January.
- 57:49Now SoCal is doing it for
- 57:51their competition in September.
- 57:56That's good.
- 57:57I mean,
- 57:57I think more comps will pull them in.
- 58:01I mean, they're being pretty outspoken.
- 58:06Rogue needs more money, I guess.
- 58:11Yeah,
- 58:11I think it's good for the PFA to be
- 58:14in talks with competitions
- 58:15or at least have some sort
- 58:16of athlete union conversation.
- 58:18always in talks for stuff
- 58:20the thing that's very
- 58:21interesting about our sport
- 58:23I was talking to lex today
- 58:24about this is like most of
- 58:26the unions in sports like
- 58:28the workouts are known or
- 58:30the like the the
- 58:31competition is known but
- 58:32we're in a in a sport where
- 58:34stuff is unknown so certain
- 58:36athletes let's say in the
- 58:36pfa would have access to
- 58:39information maybe earlier
- 58:40than others obviously shares it, um,
- 58:43with the rest,
- 58:43but it's just an
- 58:44interesting difference of
- 58:47our sport because of the
- 58:48whole unknown and
- 58:50conversations that have to
- 58:51happen with the PFA.
- 58:54Um, but regardless,
- 58:55I think it's important to, um,
- 58:58have athletes that know the movements,
- 59:02knows the risks involved with, um,
- 59:06sort of like competitions.
- 59:07So I think that's a good move by water.
- 59:12Yeah, I think it's,
- 59:13it's a good first start.
- 59:15I think there are ways
- 59:16around it and what we can
- 59:17get into this in the off
- 59:18season when we have a lot
- 59:20where we can talk about directions,
- 59:21but you know,
- 59:22a lot of unions will put
- 59:23together like a third party
- 59:27committee where both sides
- 59:28get to put the members of
- 59:29that committee together and
- 59:31to come to an agreement
- 59:33right so it's not the
- 59:35actual players or the
- 59:37owners it's this third
- 59:39party that comes up with it
- 59:40or approves it um who
- 59:43aren't directly involved
- 59:45but they're elected there
- 59:46by both sides of the the
- 59:49negotiating table I didn't
- 59:53realize that the c2 really
- 59:54wasn't indestructible
- 59:56apparently uh wad zombie
- 59:58has ripped the handle off a
- 59:59c2 row or twice
- 1:00:01That's crazy.
- 1:00:02I, before my back injury,
- 1:00:05I would move a rower across the floor.
- 1:00:07Oh, I've seen it.
- 1:00:09Yeah.
- 1:00:09Right.
- 1:00:10I've never broken a rower.
- 1:00:13Never.
- 1:00:18Wads on visa beast.
- 1:00:19If he's done that.
- 1:00:20Props to you, Nick.
- 1:00:22I did snap a,
- 1:00:25it's like the little curvy
- 1:00:27piece that goes into the handle.
- 1:00:30So we just had to replace that one piece.
- 1:00:35I did crack one of those ones.
- 1:00:45That's because Nick is strong.
- 1:00:51All right.
- 1:00:52Any last thoughts for tonight?
- 1:00:57Ten more sleeps.
- 1:00:59Ten more sleeps.
- 1:01:02When are you getting down there?
- 1:01:04We'll get I'm going to leave
- 1:01:05Tuesday morning,
- 1:01:06but I think we're going to
- 1:01:07stop somewhere.
- 1:01:08Nashville ish,
- 1:01:10maybe a little before that
- 1:01:13sleep there and then get
- 1:01:14back up in the morning and
- 1:01:16go the rest of the way.
- 1:01:17We don't need to be there
- 1:01:18before like noon.
- 1:01:21We can't check in until four,
- 1:01:23and I don't think my
- 1:01:24check-in is until later
- 1:01:26afternoon at the venue.
- 1:01:29Oh, go ahead, Carolyn.
- 1:01:34Will they announce any workouts before?
- 1:01:36Did they say anything about that?
- 1:01:37If they'll release anything
- 1:01:39and then did they talk
- 1:01:39about the uniforms for you guys?
- 1:01:41That's my two questions for you.
- 1:01:42Oh, yes.
- 1:01:45We are getting workouts
- 1:01:47released starting Monday
- 1:01:49was the plan most likely.
- 1:01:52The first one they're going
- 1:01:52to release is the one that
- 1:01:53they said would have the running.
- 1:01:56So that's probably the first
- 1:01:57one we'll hear about.
- 1:01:57And they'll probably,
- 1:01:59he said they would not announce them all,
- 1:02:01probably leave two to, I don't know,
- 1:02:04two or three in the secrecy.
- 1:02:07So all week we should get a
- 1:02:08workout essentially.
- 1:02:10And then the, yes, they,
- 1:02:18obviously they've heard all
- 1:02:18the complaints about the uniforms.
- 1:02:20So the solution is that we
- 1:02:21can buy more Northern
- 1:02:23Spirit apparel if we would like.
- 1:02:28We can wear any Northern
- 1:02:29Spirit apparel on the floor.
- 1:02:31So we can go to the booth and buy more.
- 1:02:34But it is mandatory for every event.
- 1:02:38And you said you had 10 events?
- 1:02:42And three uniforms?
- 1:02:43Or was it more?
- 1:02:45Yeah, I believe it's three.
- 1:02:46Because it wasn't even
- 1:02:47enough for each day.
- 1:02:48Like it wasn't even four outfits.
- 1:02:50Yeah.
- 1:02:51Three outfits.
- 1:02:53Do you have laundry?
- 1:02:55No, I don't.
- 1:02:56I have a sink.
- 1:03:01I mean,
- 1:03:02at least if you're going to
- 1:03:03acknowledge that,
- 1:03:05at least give like a 50%
- 1:03:06off coupon for the Northern
- 1:03:08Spirit booth or something.
- 1:03:09Just be like, you know,
- 1:03:10we're trying to do what we can.
- 1:03:12Here's a discount to get
- 1:03:14some more apparel items.
- 1:03:16There's just a lot of you
- 1:03:17and that was our budget.
- 1:03:19And I would at least respect that.
- 1:03:22Just to be like, well,
- 1:03:23come spend more money.
- 1:03:24I mean, it's frustrating.
- 1:03:26Everything about this seems
- 1:03:27like a money grab.
- 1:03:31Lex says having to buy more is ridiculous.
- 1:03:35Yeah.
- 1:03:37Or, like, my... And I didn't speak up,
- 1:03:40so it is kind of... It's
- 1:03:42not fair of me to say this now, really.
- 1:03:44But, like...
- 1:03:46I would if if you're
- 1:03:48acknowledging there isn't enough uniforms,
- 1:03:50but you want it to look good,
- 1:03:51like at least pick your
- 1:03:53like primetime events and just say, hey,
- 1:03:56are your your evening event Thursday,
- 1:04:00Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- 1:04:01You have to be on the floor
- 1:04:03in northern spirit.
- 1:04:04Like those are the four
- 1:04:05events you must wear.
- 1:04:07And we ask that you can for
- 1:04:10the other events as much as possible.
- 1:04:13But we acknowledge that, you know,
- 1:04:16some stuff might be dirty and,
- 1:04:18but just pick the,
- 1:04:19pick the like main events
- 1:04:21that like are going to
- 1:04:22showcase our sport the most
- 1:04:24and that are your prime
- 1:04:26time hours on YouTube.
- 1:04:28I don't know.
- 1:04:29That would be my solution, but I get it.
- 1:04:35Andrew Sten says,
- 1:04:36that's on Northern Spirit and CrossFit,
- 1:04:39not Legends.
- 1:04:41I know that for us to be on the floor,
- 1:04:44we have to be doing behind the scenes.
- 1:04:47For our people on the floor,
- 1:04:48we have to be in Northern Spirit.
- 1:04:55So hopefully they supply us
- 1:04:56with at least some.
- 1:04:59You'll probably get more than us.
- 1:05:03We'll find out.
- 1:05:04We also lost our ice bath sponsor,
- 1:05:07so there's no ice baths.
- 1:05:12Who was the ice bath sponsor?
- 1:05:13I think Chili Goat.
- 1:05:19And the other information we
- 1:05:21got was that they currently
- 1:05:25don't have any,
- 1:05:26like a Rosti isn't coming.
- 1:05:27They're working on getting somebody,
- 1:05:29so hopefully we do.
- 1:05:31But yeah.
- 1:05:32You guys are the ones that
- 1:05:33need it the most.
- 1:05:34I know.
- 1:05:36All the tape, all the everything,
- 1:05:37the foam rolls.
- 1:05:38I see Masters of the Games on day one,
- 1:05:42half of you guys have all
- 1:05:43taped up shoulders and knees.
- 1:05:46Yup.
- 1:05:48Yeah.
- 1:05:52Yeah, I'm actually,
- 1:05:54it sounds like all they're going to do,
- 1:05:55Boulder,
- 1:05:56Jason Grubb has offered to bring in, like,
- 1:05:58I think he has a few tubs.
- 1:05:59And so, like, those will be available.
- 1:06:01But that's,
- 1:06:02you're talking 500 plus
- 1:06:03athletes using three or four tubs.
- 1:06:05Like, yeah.
- 1:06:07I thought Jay Burch was
- 1:06:08talking about duct tape, binding twine.
- 1:06:11Oh, I was thinking the metal, like,
- 1:06:13troughs.
- 1:06:14I was thinking the stuff to
- 1:06:15hold the athlete together.
- 1:06:18I'm just kidding.
- 1:06:26All right.
- 1:06:26Well, we're, we're heading out,
- 1:06:28I think Tuesday evening.
- 1:06:29Okay.
- 1:06:30As far as we can so that we
- 1:06:32can be there for check-in
- 1:06:33to start the behind the scenes check-in.
- 1:06:36And I think Ortega is going
- 1:06:40to be there sometime that
- 1:06:41day and Caitlin will be
- 1:06:43there sometime that day.
- 1:06:43So yeah,
- 1:06:45we should get rolling right about then.
- 1:06:50But yes, super excited about that.
- 1:06:52Super excited to meet all
- 1:06:53these people I've met
- 1:06:54online over the last month
- 1:06:55and a half to get to meet them in person.
- 1:06:58But, you know,
- 1:07:00I was really upset about the
- 1:07:0240 in the lower divisions
- 1:07:04when it first came out.
- 1:07:06But some of the people I've
- 1:07:07talked to are in that 40th
- 1:07:08position and they're the coolest people.
- 1:07:13Yeah, I'm sure they are.
- 1:07:18Uh, so Lex is asking,
- 1:07:20what's your plan for
- 1:07:21releasing content behind the scenes?
- 1:07:23Well,
- 1:07:23I'm going to put it behind a paywall.
- 1:07:25No.
- 1:07:28Like subscribe.
- 1:07:34If I ever would do that,
- 1:07:35it would just be for like a day or two.
- 1:07:37Yeah.
- 1:07:37Uh, but the, actually the,
- 1:07:39the plan is to release,
- 1:07:42to have an episode for every event.
- 1:07:46and for check-in so it
- 1:07:48should be an 11 episode
- 1:07:51behind the scenes and one
- 1:07:53for each event and then it
- 1:07:58the one being three minutes
- 1:08:00we may have to tweak that a
- 1:08:01bit but around that's the
- 1:08:04kind of the gist and I'm
- 1:08:05hoping to do one a week
- 1:08:08minimum after we get back oh my gosh
- 1:08:16What about the bad timing of
- 1:08:18the CrossFit trailer coming
- 1:08:20out the week after this year's games?
- 1:08:24Someone needs fired.
- 1:08:27It was free.
- 1:08:29They didn't pay for it.
- 1:08:33Yeah.
- 1:08:33My goal is to like get some
- 1:08:36good stuff at check in and
- 1:08:38start working on that Wednesday night.
- 1:08:41Cause I'll have some time.
- 1:08:43Are you doing it all by yourself,
- 1:08:45like putting everything
- 1:08:45together or are you working
- 1:08:47with one of your people
- 1:08:49that are going there?
- 1:08:50So I think Ortega and I are
- 1:08:51going to do all the editing.
- 1:08:54He's going to do all the workout stuff.
- 1:08:56I'm going to do all the
- 1:08:56interview stuff and then
- 1:08:58we'll combine it into.
- 1:09:02That's the agreement I've made with him.
- 1:09:05so anyway we can work on
- 1:09:08that check-in one which
- 1:09:10would be episode one I can
- 1:09:12start working on it
- 1:09:12wednesday night because
- 1:09:14I'll have time because
- 1:09:15chicken doesn't go that
- 1:09:16late and then just start
- 1:09:18piecing together stuff and
- 1:09:20then uh and then when I get
- 1:09:22home that I can start
- 1:09:23working on episode two is
- 1:09:25kind of the plan so episode
- 1:09:28one the week after and then
- 1:09:30just start going
- 1:09:32at at least one a week it
- 1:09:34might be more than that if
- 1:09:35we can get on a good roll
- 1:09:40so but yeah super excited
- 1:09:42about it and and I know
- 1:09:44like holly's super fast at
- 1:09:46the graphics the
- 1:09:48leaderboards and stuff
- 1:09:49she'll put all that in
- 1:09:49there um so but we have a
- 1:09:54lot of age groups to cover so it's
- 1:09:59It's going to be crazy.
- 1:10:00Have I sent you the heat sheet?
- 1:10:06No.
- 1:10:06You need to separate
- 1:10:07yourself between the 55
- 1:10:10plus and the 35 to 54.
- 1:10:14Really.
- 1:10:14Okay.
- 1:10:18You need two of you is what I'm saying.
- 1:10:21Okay.
- 1:10:23Okay.
- 1:10:28um with that make sure yeah
- 1:10:30everybody hit that like
- 1:10:31button subscribe to the
- 1:10:32channel hit the notifier
- 1:10:34you all you know all the
- 1:10:35things um because we're
- 1:10:38back we'll be doing these
- 1:10:39every week hopefully we'll
- 1:10:41have a better script going
- 1:10:42forward um but next week
- 1:10:44we'll be less than a week
- 1:10:45away we'll be like three
- 1:10:47days away from masters
- 1:10:48games um and teenagers and teens yeah
- 1:10:53and teens yeah and then
- 1:10:55we've got adaptive after
- 1:10:57that with socal the same
- 1:10:59weekend uh and so we have
- 1:11:02that then almost
- 1:11:03immediately into rogue so
- 1:11:07things get crazy over the
- 1:11:09next few weeks uh and
- 1:11:12hopefully that helps us all
- 1:11:13move forward so thank you
- 1:11:15everybody for listening to
- 1:11:16us tonight sorry if we rambled a bit
- 1:11:19But, again, like,
- 1:11:20subscribe to the channel.
- 1:11:21We love you all.
- 1:11:22Thank you so much for always
- 1:11:24supporting the show because we love you,
- 1:11:26and we love that you're
- 1:11:27here every week with us.
- 1:11:29With that,
- 1:11:29we will see everybody next time
- 1:11:32on Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 1:11:35Bye, guys.
