- 0:23Speaker 2: Live from studios in Michigan, New York, and Idaho. This
- 0:28Speaker 2: is trek Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Today on the show, we're going to talk about Starfleet Academy,
- 0:37Speaker 2: an episode called vox in Xcelso. Plus, we've got Star
- 0:42Speaker 2: Trek News and your listener feedback. I'm Scott with Daniel
- 0:47Speaker 2: Reyes and now the IHM, the Impartial Holographic Moderator, Dan Lobardo.
- 0:56Speaker 3: What what hey? What's up?
- 1:01Speaker 4: You said? Box in spiccato or whatever. It sounds like
- 1:05Speaker 4: something you hear at the end of like one of
- 1:06Speaker 4: those like, uh, pharmaceutical ads like oh if you have
- 1:09Speaker 4: box and mecado, who your doctor?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Who's day drinking? I know that sound.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I just heard it right, Yeah, what is that?
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's coke? All right? Even just well that's that way.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I'm not like tipping it, just the taste of it.
- 1:29Speaker 3: This episode of treck Cast brought to you by Diet Coke.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Here's you know, it's funny. Every single day I drive
- 1:35Speaker 2: down ninety four ninety four and there's a Coca Cola
- 1:39Speaker 2: bottling plant that I drive by every single day and
- 1:42Speaker 2: it's the Rays Coca Cola bottling plant. Oh, and I
- 1:46Speaker 2: think about you every single time. So I think about
- 1:50Speaker 2: you twice a day, five days a week. What does
- 1:52Speaker 2: that mean plus Sundays plus because I drive by it
- 1:55Speaker 2: going there and I drive by Ita.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Okay, you know in nineteen ninety three we were in
- 1:59Speaker 3: Canada and I drove by a building and the name
- 2:02Speaker 3: of the company was in the building and it was
- 2:04Speaker 3: Picard Enterprises. And I think about that at least twice
- 2:07Speaker 3: a week.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And about ten years ago, I was at the train
- 2:14Speaker 3: station and somebody had forgotten a jar of peanut butter
- 2:19Speaker 3: on the bench on the platform, and I think about
- 2:23Speaker 3: that jar of peanut butter about once a week, Like,
- 2:26Speaker 3: what's the story. Where was the person when they realized
- 2:29Speaker 3: they forgot their peanut butter? And how long did it
- 2:31Speaker 3: sit there? And did somebody pick it up and throw
- 2:33Speaker 3: it away? Did somebody see it and go awesome, peanut
- 2:36Speaker 3: butter and take it home with them? How many sandwiches
- 2:38Speaker 3: did they make? You know, how many.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Sandwiches can you make with the average jar of peanut butter?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Well, it depends all right.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Everybody in the group chat. We need you to do
- 2:47Speaker 2: some research. That reminds me of that Lewis Black joke
- 2:49Speaker 2: where he's like I heard overheard this woman saying, if
- 2:52Speaker 2: it weren't for that horse, I wouldn't have spent that.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, A waiting games doesn't Getting a peanut
- 3:00Speaker 4: butter jar should be a felony.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like peanut, but it's.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You take a pencil and you shove.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It in your eye.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Creamy. Oh I like crunchy absolutely.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I don't like crunchy for the most part.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I like. I like creamy depends on what I'm putting
- 3:22Speaker 3: it on. If I'm smearing. If I'm smearing on some
- 3:25Speaker 3: chocolate and shoving in my face like avon, then crunchy
- 3:30Speaker 3: is fine.
- 3:31Speaker 2: A gavone that is that French?
- 3:35Speaker 3: No, it's Italian. I think it means like pig or
- 3:37Speaker 3: something left.
- 3:39Speaker 4: You're buy an Exo comp.
- 3:44Speaker 2: How you guys doing? I was your h I was weak?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Oh my god. I shoveled so much snow this week?
- 3:49Speaker 4: Oh god, yeah, you guys awful. How much new did
- 3:53Speaker 4: you get?
- 3:54Speaker 3: The hat? Like two feet?
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we've had some One of my friends sent me
- 3:59Speaker 2: a mad app of snowfall in our area and we've
- 4:02Speaker 2: gotten like eighty to one hundred inches so far this season. What, Yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 2: it's been ridiculous. I'm looking. I look outside my window
- 4:11Speaker 2: at my deck and it's just, you know, my poor dog,
- 4:14Speaker 2: Like normally he goes outside of the deck and goes
- 4:16Speaker 2: down the stairs and you know, tools around and he's
- 4:18Speaker 2: a big dog. He's you know, he's a large sized dog.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And the poor guy just goes out to the deck
- 4:25Speaker 2: and like the snow is above his like waistline.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got to do this thing to get through it, right,
- 4:33Speaker 5: And he's a large dog, he's a large bree dog,
- 4:35Speaker 5: and you know it's i mean, his his little we
- 4:38Speaker 5: wei doesn't even clear the snow.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And it's just so pathetic watching him go to the
- 4:43Speaker 2: bathroom like right on the deck, poor guy. And then
- 4:47Speaker 2: if it's really cold out, my wife will put the
- 4:49Speaker 2: little booties on his on his little you know, so
- 4:53Speaker 2: his little toebaans don't freeze, and he's like walking around
- 4:56Speaker 2: all funny. It's so pathetic and hilarious.
- 5:03Speaker 4: They descended from wolves to the little booty. Yeah, exactly,
- 5:10Speaker 4: such as life. Oh well, yeah, we have no snow here.
- 5:14Speaker 4: It's crazy, like we should, but we don't. So everyone's
- 5:20Speaker 4: about fire season over here.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Fire season.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, in the summer, it's gonna be bad yea, yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, slack of moisture and water.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Okay, So well should.
- 5:35Speaker 4: We get to it? We have to, you know, we
- 5:40Speaker 4: can do whatever we want. It's our na.
- 5:43Speaker 2: How about that he Man trailer?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we never.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Talked about it. Oh no, Tell's cutting us off. I
- 5:52Speaker 4: mean we can talk about a little bit since we didn't.
- 5:54Speaker 4: That'd be kind. Sure.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Yeah, did you see the new toys?
- 6:00Speaker 3: I did?
- 6:01Speaker 4: What do you think?
- 6:02Speaker 3: I don't usually buy new stuff. I'm more into ventous stuff.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But yeah, I might pick up one or two. They're
- 6:08Speaker 3: pretty cool.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:10Speaker 3: When we come out of the movie theater, if the
- 6:11Speaker 3: kids are crazy about it and they want to go
- 6:13Speaker 3: get some, I'm not gonna tell no, right.
- 6:17Speaker 4: So yeah, I generally don't like movie action figures.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, because it's weird.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Like I have this thing about like if the person
- 6:27Speaker 4: is a real person, why do I want the little doll?
- 6:31Speaker 2: You know?
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I get it.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Like that's why I don't. I'm not a big
- 6:35Speaker 4: wrestling toys fan. I never got into it. It's weird
- 6:39Speaker 4: to me that wrestlers that collect those things, but yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 4: it's not for me.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he Man and ThunderCats that was my jam nice
- 6:49Speaker 2: when I was a kid. You know, I wasn't big
- 6:51Speaker 2: into G I Joe's. I was, you know, the figures
- 6:54Speaker 2: that I collected back in the day was he Man,
- 6:56Speaker 2: ThunderCats and teenage mant Ninja Shirles.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Speaking of cheap going a G I Joe, I had
- 7:02Speaker 3: some G I Joe Challenge coins made up. Oh they're sweet.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I had the maid that's awesome. Yep. So if anyone's interested, yep.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Yeah, right on, Yeah, I may have to get one.
- 7:20Speaker 4: All right, Well, let's let's get to it, because you
- 7:25Speaker 4: know it is tricked. Oh maybe.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Star Trek News.
- 7:34Speaker 3: We're halfway through the season, right, it's about just about yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 3: it's only I.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Think it's ten almost, we're almost there. I don't know,
- 7:45Speaker 4: we'll see, but uh yeah, it's our first new story.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Comes to us from screen rint dot com.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Speaking of which, the the show that you know, we
- 7:55Speaker 4: we don't talk about what I'm blaming the sound effect
- 8:01Speaker 4: that the Eagles, the scary Starfleet Academy sound effect.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't hear it. Yeah, it's so weird.
- 8:09Speaker 4: It's weird that you don't hear the sound effects.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I heard the Star Trek news sound effects. Hear that one.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Is it because one's a video and one's a audio
- 8:20Speaker 3: only do they go through different.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Make the same sources and it's all one off. It's
- 8:25Speaker 4: the same channel like it's all through everything.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So are you running Apple stuff?
- 8:29Speaker 3: Dan, Nope, I'm on an iPad.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah. I wonder if they run if their software, if
- 8:37Speaker 2: if the stream Yard version, like Web's version, does something different.
- 8:42Speaker 2: That's the only thing I can think of.
- 8:43Speaker 4: But I'm on an iMac right now.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Well just look on.
- 8:48Speaker 3: My point then, sorry, all right, watch watch what's your language?
- 8:54Speaker 3: What do you think? This is the thirty second century?
- 8:57Speaker 2: That's right? Yeah, yeah, we're not twenty minutes in.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah, oh close enough. So our first news story comes
- 9:04Speaker 4: to us from screen Rant and yeah, some pretty big
- 9:08Speaker 4: setbacks for strange new or strange reports Starfleet Academy. Yeah, well,
- 9:15Speaker 4: I'm sure one of the other is gonna have problems eventually.
- 9:18Speaker 4: So according to Flick's Patrol, Starfield Academy is out of
- 9:22Speaker 4: the top ten on paramount plus. I know, love it
- 9:27Speaker 4: or hate it that's objectively bad, especially being how expensive
- 9:31Speaker 4: this show is, right, Yeah, this show is like over
- 9:35Speaker 4: ten million dollars an episode, is the estimates, and if
- 9:38Speaker 4: they're not even breaking their top ten when they're losing
- 9:41Speaker 4: to what was it last week, Everybody Loves Raymond, a
- 9:44Speaker 4: thirty year old show. Yeah, that's that's not good.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah. So this guy that what's his name? Place he
- 9:54Speaker 3: was in the first episode. We haven't seen him since.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, Paul Jimoni.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I am.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Thank God for small miracles.
- 10:04Speaker 3: You know. You know, something occurred to me during the week.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Do you remember how originally this was like going to
- 10:10Speaker 3: be the Tilly series and then yes, and then we
- 10:15Speaker 3: found out she's only going to be in one episode
- 10:18Speaker 3: or two episodes. So I saw a picture of her
- 10:22Speaker 3: on the red carpet recently. Yeah, and she lost a
- 10:27Speaker 3: shit ton of weight.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't I don't know if it was o
- 10:31Speaker 3: zembic or if she had a surgery or something, but
- 10:34Speaker 3: I mean it's but I mean the difference was drastic.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm wondering if that has to do with
- 10:48Speaker 3: her not being on the show, that she doesn't look
- 10:50Speaker 3: like the character anymore, or episode one Tilly doesn't look
- 10:55Speaker 3: like episode ten Tilly, so they edited her out of
- 10:59Speaker 3: all but one of them.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Just a thought, yeah, potentially, but they shot this so
- 11:09Speaker 4: long ago, right, because they shot seasons one and two
- 11:13Speaker 4: back to back, so they had to have started a
- 11:15Speaker 4: while ago.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Well, then maybe they shot it with Big Tilly and
- 11:19Speaker 3: now she's not Big Tilly anymore and they can't have
- 11:21Speaker 3: her come back for more episodes and not look like herself.
- 11:24Speaker 3: But sorry, what am I supposed say? Fast?
- 11:28Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, no, I just I'm thinking that.
- 11:32Speaker 4: I'm just think justin Davis.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Tik tok, like there's little Deadie and then there's Big.
- 11:40Speaker 4: And I'm thinking Big Tilly's my favorite UFC fighter.
- 11:44Speaker 3: But I mean, we already had season Season one Disco
- 11:49Speaker 3: was Medium Tilly and season five Disco was Big Tilly.
- 11:53Speaker 3: So now if you're gonna have Big Tilly in the
- 11:55Speaker 3: beginning of uh Starfleet Academy and then Little Tilly later on,
- 12:01Speaker 3: it's it's not consistent. Yeah, and I'm one, and I'm
- 12:04Speaker 3: wondering if that's one of the reasons that they're just cutting.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Her out at this point? Do we care? I like Tilly.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I like her character, so if they want to put
- 12:13Speaker 2: her on I don't care what she looks like. I
- 12:15Speaker 2: don't care what her body shape is. I'd like to
- 12:17Speaker 2: see her character because she's she's quirky and she's funny
- 12:19Speaker 2: and she's I like her personality, and I don't feel
- 12:23Speaker 2: like they I mean, do they need to explain away
- 12:25Speaker 2: her weight loss or her weight gain? I get it
- 12:27Speaker 2: from a military standards point of view, but I would
- 12:31Speaker 2: like to see her character regardless of how they explain
- 12:33Speaker 2: away how she looks.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't I don't think they'd explain it, but
- 12:38Speaker 4: you know, who knows why? But yeah, so the shows.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm just I'm just curious.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Yeah, to like was.
- 12:47Speaker 4: There maybe like her character was just completely written out
- 12:50Speaker 4: of the show because they went in a different direction.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I see a starfleet Advanced Technicals raining has done wonders
- 12:57Speaker 2: for you. You know, they can do a throwaway line.
- 12:59Speaker 2: They did that with Row. You know. I just want
- 13:02Speaker 2: to see Tilly. Everybody wants to see Tilly. Who doesn't
- 13:04Speaker 2: want to see Tilly?
- 13:05Speaker 4: You're silly for Tilly? Yeah, yeah, Dan doesn't want to
- 13:08Speaker 4: see Tilly.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I don't want to see either either, Tilly, Big Tilly,
- 13:12Speaker 3: Little Tilly, doesn't matter, not interesting. He's got no time
- 13:15Speaker 3: for Tilly, No Tilly Tilly time.
- 13:20Speaker 4: All right, So yeah, so uh so yeah. Just objectively, man,
- 13:24Speaker 4: it's it's not looking good for the series, especially being
- 13:26Speaker 4: that it's so early on. I sent you guys a
- 13:28Speaker 4: screenshot yesterday. You know, it's two days out from the episode,
- 13:31Speaker 4: and it was already out of the top ten entirely.
- 13:34Speaker 4: And like, they have another young adult series like School
- 13:38Speaker 4: Spirits or something like that, and that thing is is
- 13:41Speaker 4: doing pretty well and it's into its third season. It
- 13:45Speaker 4: had a new episode released on Thursday as well, so
- 13:48Speaker 4: it was like I think fourth or fifth something like that.
- 13:52Speaker 4: So there's something with this show. People are just not
- 13:55Speaker 4: clicking with it. There was also, I don't know if
- 13:57Speaker 4: you guys saw, they had posted on YouTube, at least
- 14:02Speaker 4: in America, the first episode of Starfleet Academy. They have
- 14:07Speaker 4: since pulled that down sometimes.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Well there they were getting a lot of bad press
- 14:17Speaker 3: on it.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Well, I don't know if it's just that because they
- 14:19Speaker 4: have in the past where they'll put like the first
- 14:22Speaker 4: episode of Discovery and it's only for two weeks, right,
- 14:24Speaker 4: but they normally announce that that it's only for a
- 14:28Speaker 4: limited amount of time, go watch it. They didn't announce
- 14:31Speaker 4: that with this one, so I don't know. Yeah, so
- 14:38Speaker 4: it gives them me out at least, but yeah, it's gone.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Yeah all right. Our next new story comes to us
- 14:45Speaker 4: from our favorite source, the Dallas Observer, and if you're
- 14:52Speaker 4: in the Dallas area, are specifically was it Denton? Next week?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Next Saturday, February seventh is trek Fest in North Texas.
- 15:02Speaker 4: So they're having a big event called trek Fest. There'll
- 15:07Speaker 4: be bands, they'll be I think a cosplay contest. Here's
- 15:12Speaker 4: the let me pull up the poster. That's the poster
- 15:15Speaker 4: of it, trek Fest.
- 15:18Speaker 2: In North Texas. Yeah that tracks.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Oh I don't. I don't know Texas very well, so
- 15:25Speaker 4: but yeah, tickets are like ten bucks. It's Saturday. So
- 15:29Speaker 4: there you go. If you were in that area and
- 15:31Speaker 4: you go to trek Fast, have a good time.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I think this poster nailed Klingons better than this episode
- 15:38Speaker 2: of Academy did.
- 15:39Speaker 4: We should probably say for the listeners. It is a
- 15:42Speaker 4: very psychedelic looking poster.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yep.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a it looks like a female Klingon that's
- 15:47Speaker 2: wearing a like a mid drift white T shirt with
- 15:50Speaker 2: a jean jacket vest over it, and.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Well I thought that was prince if he was a klingon.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Or maybe yeah, with a with a belt that's got
- 15:59Speaker 2: a to take, uh dagger hanging from it?
- 16:03Speaker 3: Why is that? Uh? Why is that female? For you
- 16:05Speaker 3: wearing clothes?
- 16:07Speaker 2: I wonder it's a long purple dress with not more accurate?
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not more accurate.
- 16:14Speaker 4: And then who's in the middle?
- 16:15Speaker 2: Is that?
- 16:16Speaker 4: Is that a rocket?
- 16:18Speaker 2: It looks like a Starfleet captain a card jacket that
- 16:22Speaker 2: he or she is wearing.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, huh whatever, Yeah, it's a trek
- 16:30Speaker 4: best it's I think tickets are ten bucks, So have
- 16:32Speaker 4: a good time. And then our last news story comes
- 16:36Speaker 4: to us from Giant freaking Robot. For those of you
- 16:39Speaker 4: who do not know, currently the best Star Trek movie
- 16:43Speaker 4: ever is streaming for free on the internet. It's on
- 16:47Speaker 4: two B dot com t U b I and that
- 16:50Speaker 4: is Galaxy quest Gaxy Questions.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It is a great movie you've never seen fantastic I had.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I watched it with my son a couple of months ago.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Oh nice, thirteen years old. He has never sat through
- 17:05Speaker 3: an episode of Star Trek with me, and he thought
- 17:08Speaker 3: it was great.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, excellent.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Well there we go, all right, and that's all the
- 17:15Speaker 4: news stories.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So yeah, so listener feedback.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll get through it. It's not so bad. We'll
- 17:27Speaker 4: get through it.
- 17:29Speaker 6: Fun will now come.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Back, alright. Our main topic, Episode four of Starfleet Academy.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I don't even want to mispronounce the episode title vox
- 17:46Speaker 4: something vox in excelso right, Stanley episode.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I think it means voice, voice and excellence.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Okay, well this was an episode for sure. Uh, debate
- 18:07Speaker 4: club came to to Starfleet Academy.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So it's also a high quality Colombian coffee.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Okay, I did not know that. Uh so what do
- 18:21Speaker 4: you guys think?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Well, I'd like to start off on a good note. Sure,
- 18:28Speaker 2: I I appreciated I was on the debate team in
- 18:31Speaker 2: high school, so I appreciated the the debate aspect of
- 18:39Speaker 2: the episode. I also enjoyed seeing the Doctor again. I'm
- 18:44Speaker 2: a big Robert Ricardo fan. A lot of people online
- 18:49Speaker 2: were asking why is the doctor teaching a class? And
- 18:54Speaker 2: I to that, I say, have you ever seen an
- 18:56Speaker 2: episode of Voyager? He was a man of many talents,
- 18:58Speaker 2: you know, you know, he's a doctor, that's what his
- 19:01Speaker 2: profession is. But he does other things. He likes to
- 19:04Speaker 2: do other things.
- 19:04Speaker 3: He's a thousand years old.
- 19:07Speaker 2: He's a thousand years old, so he's taken out a
- 19:09Speaker 2: lot of other things. He's capable of doing other things.
- 19:11Speaker 4: So he's probably read a booker.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah right.
- 19:14Speaker 3: You know if he's if he's a professor of history,
- 19:18Speaker 3: you still call him doctor because that's his title.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:22Speaker 3: A doctor is higher than a professor, so you will
- 19:25Speaker 3: always call him by his superior title.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So I really like the callback to the Star Trek
- 19:33Speaker 2: the Next Generation episode the Drumhead m h. As soon
- 19:38Speaker 2: as the doctor started mentioning that quote from the Next
- 19:45Speaker 2: Generation episode that Picard talked about, I'm like, oh, I
- 19:49Speaker 2: know exactly what you're talking about. You're talking about Judge Sati,
- 19:53Speaker 2: you know, the father of that that evil admiral. So yeah,
- 19:59Speaker 2: so I like that part of it.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I like the debate aspect. It's not an accurate representation.
- 20:05Speaker 3: If you were in debate club, you know this is
- 20:07Speaker 3: not an accurate representation of what debate club is. Debate
- 20:10Speaker 3: club is you get three minutes. Okay, you get three minutes.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Now you get two minutes. Now you get two minutes,
- 20:16Speaker 3: you get one minute, you get one minute. Okay, you
- 20:18Speaker 3: have your closing argument. You have your closing argument, and
- 20:21Speaker 3: then you know, and that's it. They were interrupting each other,
- 20:27Speaker 3: they were responding to individual sentences, individual points back and forth.
- 20:34Speaker 3: This to me, this was more like an Italian dinner
- 20:38Speaker 3: than an actual debate.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I was never a debate club. I've been to a
- 20:44Speaker 3: thousand Italian dinners, and that's what this was. This was
- 20:46Speaker 3: an Italian dinner.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Sure, an Italian dinner. Do they have somebody with a
- 20:50Speaker 4: little switch to say, Grandma with the wooden spoon?
- 20:54Speaker 2: Okay, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Yeah. So they were debating that the Klingon the diaspora. Yep, yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 4: apparently the Klingons are all just nomadic people at this point,
- 21:12Speaker 4: just out in the wind. Something's up up with Chronos.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I didn't catch that, Like, did it get destroyed? Did it?
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah? During the burn? During the burn, a bunch of
- 21:23Speaker 3: factories or whatever exploded and the planet's still good, which
- 21:27Speaker 3: to me was kind of like we did this before
- 21:29Speaker 3: practice exploded Star Trek. The Klingons can't fend for themselves.
- 21:35Speaker 3: They they need peace with the Federation. They need some
- 21:38Speaker 3: which essentially is Federation charity. When Klingons and you're like,
- 21:43Speaker 3: all right, we don't want to fight you anymore. Okay,
- 21:45Speaker 3: we agree not to fight you. That's charity. Yeah, so
- 21:50Speaker 3: I kind of felt like we've been down this road before.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Well and see, okay, I thought you were going to
- 21:55Speaker 4: point out something else because I had a problem with
- 21:58Speaker 4: this if everyone is refugee, because they also made the
- 22:01Speaker 4: Romulans refugees in guard. Yeah, and then they kind of
- 22:05Speaker 4: alluded to that with the Federation when the burn happened
- 22:07Speaker 4: because they couldn't go anywhere and everyone was so good off.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Then then that's just the way everyone lives nowadays. They're
- 22:14Speaker 4: not all you know, it's.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah, there were a lot of there were a lot
- 22:21Speaker 3: of a lot of issues here. Yeah, I mean they
- 22:25Speaker 3: have warped capable ships.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 22:28Speaker 3: But his family's camping and hunting, Yeah, that too, or
- 22:34Speaker 3: that doesn't make any sense. Yeah, you know, alien technology
- 22:38Speaker 3: is forbidden forbidden by who? By who? You have no
- 22:42Speaker 3: functioning government who has forbidden.
- 22:44Speaker 2: That, right, Right, it wasn't brought down by Kalas.
- 22:50Speaker 3: You know, they don't imagine they do their own you know,
- 22:52Speaker 3: they don't have their own dermal generators. But you know
- 22:57Speaker 3: they're Klingon doctors and replicators. They have up capable ships
- 23:01Speaker 3: but no medical supply. It just didn't make any sense.
- 23:04Speaker 3: It was bad writing. I keep saying this over and over. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 3: I'm looking at my notes here.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I was gonna bring that up about like
- 23:17Speaker 4: we've seen klingon doctors before, Like, I don't think it
- 23:21Speaker 4: would be that big of a deal.
- 23:25Speaker 3: So can we go back to the debate for a second. Yeah, Okay.
- 23:32Speaker 3: One thing that bothers me, and I've said this before,
- 23:34Speaker 3: when they quote regulations by paragraph sections and sub sections
- 23:38Speaker 3: and regurgitate it verbatim, it's just not realistic. No, it's
- 23:42Speaker 3: not realistic, and you're trying. It's like they're trying to
- 23:46Speaker 3: make these cadets look impressive because they've memorized all this,
- 23:50Speaker 3: but it's not real. Lawyers don't do that. Lawyers don't
- 23:54Speaker 3: do that. Real lawyers don't do that, So these cadets
- 24:00Speaker 3: wouldn't do that. Later on they say, uh Mer basically
- 24:07Speaker 3: says facts don't care about feelings, right, and then Jade
- 24:12Speaker 3: Letter later says, you only regurgitate facts, you don't have people.
- 24:17Speaker 3: He's basically saying feelings don't care about feelings. Don't care
- 24:21Speaker 3: about facts, right, okay, But in the first duty, we
- 24:27Speaker 3: learned that our first dirty duty is to the truth.
- 24:30Speaker 4: M hm.
- 24:30Speaker 3: The truth is not your feelings. The truth is your facts.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Is not your facts, the facts? So what is it?
- 24:45Speaker 2: There?
- 24:45Speaker 3: Was just there's there's a lot of there's a lot
- 24:47Speaker 3: of things here that just don't make sense. Jade won't
- 24:51Speaker 3: eat anything he didn't kill. He won't eat the pepperoni
- 24:53Speaker 3: because he didn't kill it. It's replicated pepperoni.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Yeah it was.
- 25:01Speaker 3: It was an old shoe yesterday and now it's you
- 25:05Speaker 3: can't kill a shoe.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Or Admiral Vance would say, it's our ship.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, boop apples, it's boop apples. And my notes are
- 25:16Speaker 3: all out of order here.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Yeah, this episode, for me one of the things that
- 25:22Speaker 4: really just made me just like, what the hell are
- 25:25Speaker 4: we doing? Guys? How competent mirror is especially for a
- 25:30Speaker 4: guy who grew up on the streets, wasn't supposed to
- 25:33Speaker 4: be educated, eluded the Federation for twenty something years, right, yeah,
- 25:38Speaker 4: you know, and somehow he knows everything about everyone. He's
- 25:42Speaker 4: a master hacker, like he can just do anything. Then
- 25:46Speaker 4: why is he there?
- 25:47Speaker 3: Well, that's the same for Jaden. Yeah, what you know,
- 25:51Speaker 3: Jaden grew up as a refugee, but now he's in
- 25:56Speaker 3: starflet decade. Well what did he what was his SAT scores?
- 25:59Speaker 3: What did he get?
- 26:00Speaker 4: Yeah? You know, yeah, but even even as he put
- 26:07Speaker 4: it earlier, like they said that that, uh, you know,
- 26:09Speaker 4: other technology is forbidden. Well, how did the ball get there?
- 26:12Speaker 3: Then?
- 26:13Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 26:15Speaker 4: You know, I don't know. Did they just shoot him
- 26:17Speaker 4: out into space and hope they landed places?
- 26:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they did the odo Yeah, where they just they
- 26:22Speaker 3: just shot him out in every direction. Yeah, he probably
- 26:26Speaker 3: got it. I mean, in the defense of the show,
- 26:28Speaker 3: he probably got it from the same trader that he
- 26:31Speaker 3: was trading for the thermal generator regenerator when he got
- 26:35Speaker 3: sure Yeah, when it got all stabby, the guy just.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Threw it in. He's like, whatever, here, take this.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Take this.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Also, he's like, I'm forty five years old. I'm not
- 26:45Speaker 4: going to some academy. Here you go.
- 26:49Speaker 3: This show is supposed to take place in the thirty
- 26:51Speaker 3: second century, right, and they keep giving us twenty first
- 26:56Speaker 3: century stuff. Yeah, and it just takes me out of it.
- 27:01Speaker 3: The modern language. Chicken shit, got some game, f it up,
- 27:07Speaker 3: start ship, asshole, Dick got more people wearing glasses. It's
- 27:12Speaker 3: not just her because she's an old lady and likes antics.
- 27:15Speaker 3: You got the kid in class in the first scene,
- 27:17Speaker 3: he's wearing glasses.
- 27:21Speaker 2: There's scratching records in the score a week between scenes,
- 27:27Speaker 2: It's like, what is that?
- 27:30Speaker 3: Cadets are walking around with backpacks on? What are they
- 27:32Speaker 3: carrying in those backpack? Everything else you pluck out of
- 27:35Speaker 3: thin airb you wear a badge on your chest and
- 27:38Speaker 3: when you need to try cord, it's there. Oh, I
- 27:40Speaker 3: need to go back over here. Let me beam over that.
- 27:42Speaker 4: You literally are programmable matter what are they carrying?
- 27:46Speaker 2: The only thing I ever carried was my books and
- 27:48Speaker 2: my lunch. Yeah, none of which they need to carry around.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I've said it before. You know you you advance the
- 27:58Speaker 3: technology so far you write yourself Vinco corner.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Nothing, and when everything is possible, nothing makes sense anymore.
- 28:07Speaker 3: And that's and that's what they've created here, and it's awful.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Did they say the word riz?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Oh? I didn't know. I didn't hear riz.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I didn't catch that.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I know what they I know what they did say.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Uh No, they said uh klesh with an s h
- 28:28Speaker 3: at the end. And yeah, on the end, because that's
- 28:33Speaker 3: the way they pronounced it in the first season of
- 28:36Speaker 3: Discovery with the with the weird ugly Klingons. So this
- 28:40Speaker 3: is Kurtzman track. So they're going by the Kurtsman Bible.
- 28:45Speaker 3: But then but then Jayden later says Kleth with a
- 28:48Speaker 3: th h, So which is it?
- 28:52Speaker 2: He must be one of those Northern Klingons.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Yeah, they're still walking, they're still walking at parade Rest.
- 29:02Speaker 3: That bothers me. It's gonna bother me to the end
- 29:04Speaker 3: of the time. Bring it up every time I see it,
- 29:08Speaker 3: every single time. What else we got, Yep, the Triad House.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Because you can't just you can't just have a character
- 29:21Speaker 3: who doesn't have some sort of alternate lifestyle. Now, it's
- 29:29Speaker 3: got to be something new, it's gotta be something different.
- 29:31Speaker 3: It's gotta be something that you can put into the rainbow.
- 29:35Speaker 3: So we've never, ever, ever, ever, in sixty years seen
- 29:38Speaker 3: that before in Klingons. But now we're gonna throw it
- 29:41Speaker 3: in there. We're gonna pretend like it's totally normal when
- 29:45Speaker 3: the other character heres. Oh tryad House. Oh yeah, no,
- 29:48Speaker 3: I'm aware of that. No you're not. It's been sixty years.
- 29:51Speaker 3: No one's talked about that, right.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Then they said there's only like what thirty hours is
- 29:58Speaker 4: left or something like that.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Eight houses?
- 30:01Speaker 4: Eight houses? Yeah, yeah, soll that.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Have this? Has the empire been decimated that much? Of course,
- 30:12Speaker 2: we don't know how many houses there are in like
- 30:13Speaker 2: the card times, are there dozens, hundreds, tens of thousands
- 30:18Speaker 2: of houses? I mean, I guess there's no way to tell,
- 30:21Speaker 2: but yeah, so houses.
- 30:25Speaker 3: This doesn't make any sense the whole thing about their
- 30:28Speaker 3: fractured empire. Okay, so you have this empire with however
- 30:34Speaker 3: many worlds. Let's just say it's equivalent to what the
- 30:37Speaker 3: Federation was in the twenty fourth century, which was one
- 30:40Speaker 3: hundred and fifty member worlds. Okay, right now, that's now,
- 30:44Speaker 3: that's one hundred and fifty member worlds. Each of those
- 30:47Speaker 3: worlds may have colonies. You know, Earth was a member world,
- 30:53Speaker 3: but there were Earth colonies all over the place, right, Okay.
- 30:58Speaker 3: If Earth suddenly became uninhabitable, that doesn't mean the Federation
- 31:03Speaker 3: goes away. That's one out of one hundred and fifty worlds.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:07Speaker 3: In fact, in a way we see that in this
- 31:10Speaker 3: very timeline because of the burn Earth left the Federation.
- 31:13Speaker 3: The Federation didn't cease to exist. Earth just wasn't a
- 31:16Speaker 3: member of it. So you have to Klingon Empire. Let's
- 31:20Speaker 3: say it has one hundred and fifty worlds. One of
- 31:23Speaker 3: them becomes uninhabitable Chronos, the whole thing falls apart.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought about that too, Like it just it
- 31:32Speaker 4: doesn't make sense. No, yeah, I know it's.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Nope, everybody just leaves those worlds and suddenly they're just
- 31:40Speaker 3: wagon training around the galaxy until they find a new home.
- 31:45Speaker 3: You have one hundred and forty nine other potential homes.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it it honestly like for me, it would have
- 31:53Speaker 4: it would have been better if they had something something
- 31:55Speaker 4: along the lines of like during the Burn, the Klingons
- 31:59Speaker 4: used that opportunity to expand they've taken over so much
- 32:02Speaker 4: more worlds and now they're a major threat to the Federation.
- 32:06Speaker 4: And now that they're trying, the Federation is trying to
- 32:08Speaker 4: get up back on their feet at least like the
- 32:10Speaker 4: opposite of what they're doing. And it gives you storytelling
- 32:14Speaker 4: devices now, right, because now the Klingon has become a
- 32:17Speaker 4: threat and their a rival faction to the Federation.
- 32:21Speaker 3: There's plenty of good stories that could have been told
- 32:25Speaker 3: in that situation. This is not one of them. Okay,
- 32:28Speaker 3: if Kronos, if Chronos is uninhabitable, and and the Klingon
- 32:33Speaker 3: government decides, okay, we need to move the seat of
- 32:36Speaker 3: government to a different world in the empire. And they
- 32:40Speaker 3: do that, and the inhabitants of that world resist, and
- 32:45Speaker 3: now you have an internal struggle going on. Right now,
- 32:48Speaker 3: now the houses start taking sides. Mm hmm okay, and
- 32:52Speaker 3: you essentially have a Klingon civil war going on. That
- 32:55Speaker 3: that makes sense. Yeah, But the fact that suddenly it
- 33:00Speaker 3: is interesting. I would love to see that. Yeah, I
- 33:02Speaker 3: would love to see that. They didn't do that. They
- 33:05Speaker 3: just said, oh, this one planet's uninhabitable, so everybody's gonna
- 33:08Speaker 3: get on their ships and wander around the galaxy and
- 33:10Speaker 3: uh there's only eight.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Houses left, right. Yeah, it's it's just so frustrating.
- 33:20Speaker 2: The only thing consistent about the Klingons in this episode
- 33:22Speaker 2: is they did do the uh worn stoveocore that a
- 33:25Speaker 2: Klingon warriors ascending into heavy Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, they
- 33:30Speaker 2: did do the Klingon death stream.
- 33:33Speaker 4: It was weird to me too that, like, as the
- 33:36Speaker 4: brothers dying, he's telling Jaden, like, I believe in you
- 33:40Speaker 4: I love you and you're my favorite and like that's
- 33:45Speaker 4: it seems odd.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it just it was forced. It was a lot
- 33:50Speaker 3: of forced ye stuff.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that that I think is my big issue. It's
- 33:56Speaker 4: all forced as supposed to organic storytelling and liking it
- 34:00Speaker 4: part of the story.
- 34:02Speaker 3: You know, his father's didn't understand him, but his brother didn't. Well, yeah,
- 34:06Speaker 3: did his brother make some sort of effort to help
- 34:10Speaker 3: his fathers understand him? Or was he just like, hey,
- 34:15Speaker 3: let's go in the woods and uh, I'll give you
- 34:17Speaker 3: some tech I found.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Okay, what if you had done something like this? One
- 34:22Speaker 4: of the fathers understands him, the other one doesn't. Right,
- 34:26Speaker 4: so he feels like he's creating an imbalance in his family,
- 34:30Speaker 4: potentially causing a major rift. And so when Jaden takes off,
- 34:34Speaker 4: it's him running away from home because he doesn't want
- 34:36Speaker 4: to be the problem anymore. Right now, you have conflict
- 34:40Speaker 4: for him to be at the academy.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Or call me crazy. Yeah, he only has one father
- 34:48Speaker 3: and he has a mother, and the father understands him
- 34:52Speaker 3: and the mother doesn't.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Or or maybe okay, he only has one parent because
- 34:59Speaker 4: one died it because they didn't have a healer, and
- 35:03Speaker 4: he didn't want that to happen ever again.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Or he died because he was a healer and mom
- 35:08Speaker 3: doesn't want him to be a healer like his father
- 35:11Speaker 3: and not be able to defend himself. Right, any of
- 35:14Speaker 3: these are better ideas than than what we got. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:21Speaker 3: see again, This is what I was talking about last week.
- 35:25Speaker 3: I feel like they don't sit down in the writer's
- 35:27Speaker 3: room and do drafts. Write, write a story, read it,
- 35:33Speaker 3: discuss it, brainstorm, you know, do another draft, read it again.
- 35:38Speaker 3: What if we do this? But it's like one person
- 35:40Speaker 3: writes a story and they're like, yeah, that's that's pretty
- 35:42Speaker 3: good film.
- 35:43Speaker 2: It's all Kurtsman boot lickers, or it's Kurtsman itself writing
- 35:45Speaker 2: in the script. And it makes me wonder if they've
- 35:47Speaker 2: ever watched Next Generation or Deep Face nine.
- 35:50Speaker 4: If they do do drafts, I want to see those.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Yeah you said, do do draft I want to see
- 35:58Speaker 4: the early draft. I want to see where they started from.
- 36:01Speaker 4: I want to see how crazy that was.
- 36:03Speaker 2: It's kind of drafts for writing right now. To do drafts.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Yeah, klingons, Klingons, don't miss out of anger. Right, you've
- 36:12Speaker 3: never met these people, sock, you know nothing about these
- 36:16Speaker 3: people you've never met them before. You're you're hearing a
- 36:21Speaker 3: boy's story about what happened two years ago with his parents.
- 36:24Speaker 3: But you're going to come to a conclusion that your
- 36:29Speaker 3: father missed on purpose because he wanted you to go
- 36:31Speaker 3: be a doctor at Starfleet.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Well, she's had on, didn't she come to the conclusion
- 36:39Speaker 2: that he didn't miss that he missed on purpose. I
- 36:42Speaker 2: was still confused with the whole Klingon thing. I didn't understand.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I didn't understand the finally dynamic. You guys were talking
- 36:47Speaker 2: about a triad thing. I missed all that. I didn't
- 36:51Speaker 2: understand anything that was going on. I was confused.
- 36:54Speaker 3: You missed that he had two dads?
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I I that went over my head. I was
- 37:00Speaker 2: maybe I was like not paying attention because I was
- 37:03Speaker 2: bored part of it.
- 37:04Speaker 3: So, you know, not to be a twelve year old boy.
- 37:07Speaker 3: But they established a few years ago that Klingons have
- 37:11Speaker 3: two weewies.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, so his.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Mom's his mom's got four of those coming at her.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Okay for four of those? Yeah, Okay, they did. Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 2: they did establish that. No, you're speaking you're speaking medically. No,
- 37:27Speaker 2: this is scientific. It's just scientific. It's just good science. God, yeah,
- 37:34Speaker 2: I've seen that sitcom My Two Dads. Yeah it was good.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Oh god, that was an old ass show.
- 37:40Speaker 2: That was an old ass show. Okay, I I got
- 37:43Speaker 2: a couple of notes. I'd like to talk about. Number One.
- 37:48Speaker 2: We've it's been well established that I'm the dumb one
- 37:51Speaker 2: of the group. And so when I watch a show,
- 37:54Speaker 2: I you know, I I I put my brain aside
- 37:57Speaker 2: and I just I'm I'm like, you know, a baby,
- 37:59Speaker 2: you know, bat and at keys. I just like to
- 38:02Speaker 2: look at the pretty lights and everything. And I don't
- 38:04Speaker 2: know any about story. You guys always talk about what
- 38:06Speaker 2: makes good stories, and Daniel, You're always coming up with
- 38:08Speaker 2: these amazing story ideas and I'm just like, I don't
- 38:11Speaker 2: understand that. And when and and when when plot twists happened,
- 38:15Speaker 2: Like I'm the last person to like, I'm always surprised
- 38:18Speaker 2: at everything when when it happens. But as soon as
- 38:21Speaker 2: they started talking about this new world that the Klingons
- 38:23Speaker 2: could could inhabit and it's charity, my first thought was, Oh,
- 38:27Speaker 2: they're gonna make them fight for it, They're gonna make
- 38:30Speaker 2: them play fight for it. Yeah, And then when it happened,
- 38:33Speaker 2: I'm like Okay, if I figure that out after the
- 38:37Speaker 2: first mention of they they they won't take it because
- 38:42Speaker 2: it's charity. There must have been a smarter way to
- 38:46Speaker 2: do it. And also, this has always been a pet
- 38:48Speaker 2: peeve of mine, is fighting by pushing buttons, something that
- 38:52Speaker 2: the Klingons I think is cool, as in ship battles.
- 38:58Speaker 2: I think about it. If they were gonna go that,
- 39:00Speaker 2: I think a better way it would have been ritual
- 39:02Speaker 2: hand to hand combat. I think fighting ritual hand to
- 39:05Speaker 2: hand combat is always a better way for a Klingon
- 39:07Speaker 2: to battle it out.
- 39:09Speaker 4: I actually thought when they did the fake fight for
- 39:12Speaker 4: the planet, I thought, okay, they're going to do that.
- 39:16Speaker 4: The Klingons are going to see right through this and
- 39:19Speaker 4: not accept the planet. And then what it'll be is
- 39:22Speaker 4: that Jaden will win the debate and as his prize
- 39:27Speaker 4: for winning that battle, he gets the planet, and then
- 39:32Speaker 4: he gives it to the Klingons. A give to the Klingons.
- 39:35Speaker 2: That would have made more sense, it would have been I.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Don't think that. I don't think that would have worked
- 39:41Speaker 3: because the real Klingons don't see a debate as battle, right.
- 39:49Speaker 3: I think what would have been better is in order
- 39:54Speaker 3: for them to win the battle, there had to be
- 39:58Speaker 3: some losses. Yeah, okay, when, yes, when they have the
- 40:03Speaker 3: when they had the conversation, when they have the conversation afterwards,
- 40:06Speaker 3: and they were like, hey, no losses on either side. Great,
- 40:09Speaker 3: they shake hands and wink and here, enjoy your new planet.
- 40:13Speaker 3: I didn't buy that. Instead they should have had I mean,
- 40:17Speaker 3: they have programmable matter. Yeah, make make some ships and
- 40:22Speaker 3: and dial dial the shields down to about ten percent. Okay,
- 40:27Speaker 3: and you know, once the Federation loses about twenty five
- 40:31Speaker 3: ships that were just.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Shells, they weren't real ships.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Okay, they withdraw. They signal the Klingons and say we surrender.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Allow us to withdraw, and the Federation turns and runs,
- 40:46Speaker 3: and then the Klingons say, we seize this planet as
- 40:49Speaker 3: the spoils of war. That I would have bought this hole.
- 40:52Speaker 3: All right, We're just gonna dance around the ring and
- 40:56Speaker 3: we're gonna, you know, hit each other a couple of times.
- 40:59Speaker 4: It's almost like bro wrestling. Yes, yes, which I love,
- 41:05Speaker 4: But I did not love this.
- 41:06Speaker 3: You know, if we're watching the show and we're seeing
- 41:09Speaker 3: through this, every tactical officer on every one of those
- 41:13Speaker 3: kling On ships also saw through it, right, you know,
- 41:17Speaker 3: they know, hey captain, you know they missed every shot
- 41:23Speaker 3: except for three, and the ones that they did land,
- 41:26Speaker 3: their phasers were only operating at seven percent. This doesn't
- 41:31Speaker 3: make any sense, Yeah, which would then mean that it
- 41:35Speaker 3: was charity, which is not honorable for them to accept.
- 41:40Speaker 3: So it just it was flawed. It was flawed as usual.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Yeah. I would have liked to see like a hand
- 41:48Speaker 2: to hand combat fight between Lady Thoktua and one of
- 41:53Speaker 2: their Klingon warriors.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Fuck to.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Jaden comes up with this idea and then instead of
- 42:02Speaker 3: bringing it to the Chancellor and saying, hey, I got
- 42:04Speaker 3: an idea. This is what we can do, he says,
- 42:06Speaker 3: you gotta get me back on that debate stage.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Yeah that was that.
- 42:12Speaker 2: What was that?
- 42:14Speaker 4: I have no idea.
- 42:15Speaker 3: That was you know, the whole the whole crux of
- 42:18Speaker 3: this show is the debate club. So you know, we
- 42:20Speaker 3: have to bring it back to the debate club. That's
- 42:22Speaker 3: all that was. And just because I'm a stickler, Admiral
- 42:26Speaker 3: Poop Apples says, the Klingon gods help us. There are
- 42:30Speaker 3: no Clingon gods because the Klingons killed their gods right ago.
- 42:35Speaker 4: The other thing that made me think that that was weird,
- 42:38Speaker 4: is what you were referring to as far as like
- 42:40Speaker 4: you gotta get me back on that debate stage. So
- 42:43Speaker 4: everyone was just sitting around waiting for him to get
- 42:45Speaker 4: a pep talk. Yeah, just is that what we're supposed
- 42:49Speaker 4: to believe them?
- 42:50Speaker 3: No? No, they were doing other things. And Stephen Colbert
- 42:53Speaker 3: came came over the PA and said, all right, everybody,
- 42:55Speaker 3: Jayden's got an idea. Get back to the auditorium. Make
- 42:59Speaker 3: sure you sit in the same seats he sat it
- 43:00Speaker 3: last time. Sign seating.
- 43:02Speaker 4: Yep, I mean, is there a halftime in debate club?
- 43:05Speaker 4: I don't you know, Maybe that's what happened.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I don't an.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Official time out. Yeah, the doctor pressed his little little
- 43:14Speaker 2: little thing, and.
- 43:15Speaker 4: That's right, that's right.
- 43:17Speaker 3: So did anyone else think that Jaden and Raymi were
- 43:23Speaker 3: gonna make out after their breathing exercises?
- 43:26Speaker 2: Can I say something please?
- 43:28Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 43:29Speaker 2: I was extremely uncomfortable during that scene, and let me
- 43:34Speaker 2: tell you why. Okay, it was because I didn't understand
- 43:38Speaker 2: what was going on.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I consider myself an ally, Okay, I have friends in
- 43:46Speaker 2: the LGBTQ plus community. Okay, this seemed we overused it.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Seems like we overused the word force. But my god,
- 43:56Speaker 2: this seemed forced. But there was nothing there, and I
- 43:59Speaker 2: didn't know what was going on. I didn't know what
- 44:01Speaker 2: was happening. I didn't understand why they were trying to
- 44:03Speaker 2: force sexual attension there when it was not a thing.
- 44:08Speaker 2: What the hell was that? I was confused. It didn't
- 44:11Speaker 2: it didn't. Were they trying to send a message, tell
- 44:14Speaker 2: a story, or confuse me?
- 44:16Speaker 3: What was it?
- 44:17Speaker 2: I was uncomfortable.
- 44:19Speaker 4: You know what's really funny is thinking about it now.
- 44:22Speaker 4: They had this scene in Starfleet Academy where he's like,
- 44:26Speaker 4: you know, breathe, relax and this this is meditation. I
- 44:31Speaker 4: don't know if you guys have watched The wonder Man Show.
- 44:34Speaker 4: Not yet, Okay, there is literally a scene in one
- 44:37Speaker 4: of the episodes where wonder Man is freaking out and
- 44:41Speaker 4: Trevor Slattery tells him how to breathe and relax and
- 44:45Speaker 4: calm down. So it's like, basically, you can compare the
- 44:47Speaker 4: two scenes and how they're handled, and they both are
- 44:52Speaker 4: designed to do the same thing, is to bring them
- 44:54Speaker 4: closer together and make them more I don't know a
- 44:58Speaker 4: better bond. And it's some amazing how one is handled
- 45:01Speaker 4: awkwardly and you didn't know what was going on, Like
- 45:04Speaker 4: you were saying, Scott, you felt weird about it. And
- 45:07Speaker 4: the other one is just really well done and a
- 45:09Speaker 4: great interaction between two characters to make their bond increase.
- 45:15Speaker 4: It's hilarious.
- 45:17Speaker 2: How big a Yeah? Why did they why did they
- 45:19Speaker 2: make why did they film that scene? Why did they
- 45:21Speaker 2: make that scene to become a will they won't they? Moment?
- 45:25Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 45:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 45:28Speaker 2: It totally took me out of the episode.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, like the whole writing it was awkward.
- 45:36Speaker 3: It's no secret that I'm not a fan of these
- 45:38Speaker 3: types of storylines. However, I can't appreciate when they are
- 45:45Speaker 3: written well right. And if you compare this scene to
- 45:53Speaker 3: the meet you two weeks ago between Jaden and the
- 45:57Speaker 3: guy from the war college where they meet, they meet
- 46:01Speaker 3: in the hallway and Jade's telling them a joke and yeah,
- 46:07Speaker 3: that was more genuine I think than this. I don't
- 46:13Speaker 3: I didn't get this. This didn't make any sense at all.
- 46:18Speaker 4: M Yeah, that's I think. That's the big problem with
- 46:26Speaker 4: this show is if they had only thought about things
- 46:30Speaker 4: for like five more minutes, they could have written the
- 46:32Speaker 4: scenes in a more organic style and get they could
- 46:36Speaker 4: still get all all the the cultural goals that they're
- 46:40Speaker 4: trying to reach, but but make them seem more palatable
- 46:44Speaker 4: and interesting and part of the story as opposed to
- 46:47Speaker 4: be forced.
- 46:50Speaker 2: That's another thing I wanted to bring up part of
- 46:51Speaker 2: the story.
- 46:52Speaker 3: You know.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, there's been a lot of discussion online about I
- 46:56Speaker 2: hate to use this word on the show, but there's
- 46:59Speaker 2: been a lot of discussion about is Trek too woke
- 47:02Speaker 2: you know whatever, blah blah blah blah blah. And then
- 47:05Speaker 2: you know, some people say, well, Trek was woke back
- 47:07Speaker 2: in the day, and blah blah blah blah. Look Trek,
- 47:11Speaker 2: whether you think it's woke now or woke before, whatever,
- 47:15Speaker 2: This is what I think Trek used to be story
- 47:18Speaker 2: first and message secondary. Now it's message first and story secondary, right,
- 47:26Speaker 2: And nobody.
- 47:26Speaker 4: Wants to be preached at as the thing. That's why
- 47:29Speaker 4: it feels so forced, And.
- 47:31Speaker 2: So I don't want to be preached at. Nobody does
- 47:34Speaker 2: about any values, even values that I agree with or
- 47:37Speaker 2: aligned with. I don't want to be preached at. I
- 47:39Speaker 2: want to be entertained with a story. It was on
- 47:42Speaker 2: the message that's great.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Right when the Jehovah's witnesses knock on the door. No
- 47:46Speaker 4: one's excited, right.
- 47:48Speaker 2: You know, when when Kirk kissed Ohura, there was a
- 47:51Speaker 2: great storyline behind that, and then the message sort of
- 47:54Speaker 2: followed when John Zia kissed that woman, there was a
- 47:56Speaker 2: great storyline behind it, and then a message sort of followed.
- 47:59Speaker 2: When Kirk was dealing with the person that was half
- 48:01Speaker 2: black on one side and half white on the other side,
- 48:02Speaker 2: there was a great story and then a message sort
- 48:04Speaker 2: of followed. You know, when the when the doctor was
- 48:07Speaker 2: dealing with holographic rights and in Flesh and Blood, there
- 48:10Speaker 2: was a great story there, and then there was a
- 48:12Speaker 2: sort of a message that sort of followed.
- 48:14Speaker 7: Well, okay, even to that even more more current in
- 48:18Speaker 7: the Yourville right when they did that that episode about
- 48:22Speaker 7: uh what's his name's daughter wanted to stay a daughter
- 48:26Speaker 7: and not have the the operation and change from a.
- 48:29Speaker 4: Mail right, that whole storyline was fantastic and it and
- 48:34Speaker 4: it was it was woke, but it was part of
- 48:37Speaker 4: the story and it was it was interesting and compelling
- 48:41Speaker 4: to the characters, like it was really well done.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Yeah, they weren't sending a message for the sake of
- 48:45Speaker 2: sending a message. They were telling a story that had
- 48:47Speaker 2: a message within it, exactly. That's what Star Trek now
- 48:51Speaker 2: is not doing.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the big difference.
- 48:53Speaker 2: They forgot to tell a story. Yeah, and all they're
- 48:56Speaker 2: trying to do is sending a message.
- 48:57Speaker 4: They send a mess, right right, that's yeah.
- 49:02Speaker 2: I like stories, me too, me too.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Allegedly, though, the fifth episode is supposed to be a
- 49:10Speaker 4: game changer and really good. I don't know. I guess
- 49:15Speaker 4: we'll see. But that's that's what people are saying.
- 49:21Speaker 2: So thank you for America can oh yeah, yeah, oh
- 49:28Speaker 2: he said strong Beard nailed it.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yep.
- 49:33Speaker 4: A waiting game. In my opinion, Sergiks always progresses, but
- 49:38Speaker 4: the issue is more. But the issues are just more
- 49:41Speaker 4: relatable today. Interracial kissing and trans outiellogia. That's on the
- 49:45Speaker 4: same level.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess it just depends on your
- 49:54Speaker 2: point of view.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Yeah, but but that's part of it, right, is like
- 49:59Speaker 4: you sent the stories in a way to show those
- 50:02Speaker 4: points of views. You don't just insert the point of
- 50:05Speaker 4: view and you know, glue it onto an already existing
- 50:11Speaker 4: story like that. That's not that doesn't work right Yeah.
- 50:17Speaker 4: So all right, so it sounds like we didn't like it.
- 50:24Speaker 2: No, and did this did this episode further the Academy
- 50:28Speaker 2: started academy storyline at all.
- 50:31Speaker 4: They're not any closer to finding his mom.
- 50:33Speaker 3: No, nobody, but he's got plenty of pizza under his
- 50:37Speaker 3: bed when he's right.
- 50:38Speaker 2: That's right, that's right.
- 50:41Speaker 4: I mean, the food's gonna go bad.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Dude. It reminded me that Miles O'Brien episode where he
- 50:47Speaker 2: got brain ft into thinking he was in prison for
- 50:50Speaker 2: many years.
- 50:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I don't know what this. I don't know what story
- 50:55Speaker 2: they're trying to tell. I know what message you're trying
- 50:57Speaker 2: to send, but I don't know what story they're trying
- 50:58Speaker 2: to tell.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 51:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Well, I just hope to get more doctor.
- 51:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and someday Tilly, god knows when or which or which.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we're not going to get good episodes, so at
- 51:14Speaker 2: least I hope to get some good moments.
- 51:17Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, should we get the listener feedback?
- 51:21Speaker 3: Wait? When we do the uh you know how we
- 51:23Speaker 3: do the the predictions? Can we add can we add
- 51:28Speaker 3: one question to it? Right now? Sure?
- 51:31Speaker 4: Hold on, I gotta get there.
- 51:34Speaker 2: This is your show, Yeah, I mean, what is it you.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Want to add big Tilly or little Tilly.
- 51:44Speaker 4: I like it. That's I'm okay.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Or you could just write it down on a piece
- 51:57Speaker 3: of paper.
- 51:58Speaker 4: No, no, no, I found I had them. Then I got it.
- 52:03Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 52:04Speaker 2: What do you prefer?
- 52:05Speaker 3: All right?
- 52:06Speaker 2: Bigger, little Tilly, big Tilly?
- 52:11Speaker 4: All right, Dan, bigger, little Tilly, big Tilly. Okay, I'm
- 52:16Speaker 4: gonna go medium. I think I think she'll be Yeah,
- 52:19Speaker 4: I think she's gonna be in the process of the
- 52:20Speaker 4: weight loss. So that's when they her.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah, And just just for curiosity, answer up in the
- 52:27Speaker 3: chat if you think big Tilly or little Tilly or
- 52:30Speaker 3: medium Tilly.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Medium till. Nice? All right, we got people already xing
- 52:37Speaker 4: up in the chat, so we should probably.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I want to see it. I want somebody to make
- 52:41Speaker 2: an AI of big Tilly and Dan in a wrestling match.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Oh boy, please don't please, don't encourage don't encourage them. Wait.
- 52:52Speaker 4: So, according to eighties movies, semi truck drivers had like
- 52:56Speaker 4: like goofy nicknames. Right, Scott, you drive a truck, You're
- 53:01Speaker 4: gonna go by big Tilly.
- 53:06Speaker 2: I had a cat in the eighties named Tilly.
- 53:09Speaker 4: Oh nice, hey, yeah?
- 53:10Speaker 3: Do you uh? Do you have a CB in your truck.
- 53:14Speaker 3: I don't.
- 53:15Speaker 2: No, it is still a thing. I don't because it's
- 53:19Speaker 2: it's all you know, Obama this and f No. I can't.
- 53:26Speaker 3: So it's it's a chat room.
- 53:28Speaker 2: It's a chat it's a chat room.
- 53:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you Reddit forum.
- 53:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's two percent. How's the weather in ninety eight percent? Yeah?
- 53:35Speaker 2: Here politics?
- 53:36Speaker 3: Did you ever? Did you ever have one? What was
- 53:39Speaker 3: what was your handle?
- 53:40Speaker 2: I never? I know, I never.
- 53:43Speaker 4: You doesn't want to tell us?
- 53:44Speaker 2: No, I never had one. I don't. Yeah, I never
- 53:48Speaker 2: had one because I wasn't an over the I was
- 53:50Speaker 2: never over the road.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Okay, all right, all right, well all right, uh yeah,
- 53:57Speaker 4: let's uh, let's go to listener feedback because they are
- 54:00Speaker 4: exing up like crazy.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Oh boy, listener feedback.
- 54:08Speaker 4: All right, Oh, I shouldn't stop sharing that. I don't
- 54:11Speaker 4: need that anymore.
- 54:13Speaker 2: You know, our Facebook group is over what three thousand?
- 54:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's getting bigger, it's.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Getting Yeah, it's growing fast. So that's awesome. Keep it up.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Everybody joined the Facebook group. There's a lot of great
- 54:27Speaker 2: stuff over there. Facebook. Check out our YouTube channel, our
- 54:31Speaker 2: our x or TikTok and Instagram check it out Interact.
- 54:36Speaker 2: It's a lot of we have a lot of fun
- 54:37Speaker 2: over there.
- 54:38Speaker 4: The Instagram just went over nineteen thousand today. Wow week, Yeah, okay,
- 54:45Speaker 4: it is. It's the biggest one. We got nice yeah,
- 54:50Speaker 4: all right, and we got people on the line. So
- 54:52Speaker 4: let's bring in Hipster Spock. He just popped in. So
- 54:55Speaker 4: here we go, Hello, Ipster Spot.
- 55:00Speaker 3: Can you hear me?
- 55:01Speaker 4: Yep, we can hear you.
- 55:03Speaker 6: Hello, fellow talks.
- 55:09Speaker 4: What talk you talking about?
- 55:11Speaker 3: Dared dishonor me? Yeah, Like.
- 55:19Speaker 8: Jaden makes Alexander Roshenko look masculine.
- 55:29Speaker 4: If they did like the Alexander Rushenko's School of Medicine
- 55:33Speaker 4: or something like that. What did he end up doing?
- 55:36Speaker 4: What was it like? Oh, he wanted to be a
- 55:38Speaker 4: warrior right after all?
- 55:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you know he.
- 55:44Speaker 8: According to uh you know what I heard and stuff,
- 55:48Speaker 8: Alexander actually redeemed himself.
- 55:50Speaker 3: In the end. Yeah, I guess yeah, oh yeah.
- 55:59Speaker 6: Mm hmm.
- 56:00Speaker 8: You know, like you were talking about like the writing
- 56:06Speaker 8: and stuff. And you know, one more thing from last week.
- 56:11Speaker 8: I said something about Community and you know, Community actually
- 56:15Speaker 8: had a debate episode and it was one of the best.
- 56:22Speaker 8: Go back and look at it and you'll see a
- 56:24Speaker 8: big difference. And okay writing, okay, I you know, if
- 56:31Speaker 8: you think about you know, TS era, like there were
- 56:35Speaker 8: actually those episodes were written by professional science fiction writers, right,
- 56:42Speaker 8: so I mean everything was like air tight, and like
- 56:45Speaker 8: the logic was like totally you know, it was air tight.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Basically they have that for these though. They have a
- 56:54Speaker 4: lot of writers who have won major awards in are
- 56:56Speaker 4: sci fi writers and Academy, yeah, and Discovery, and that's
- 57:04Speaker 4: the other thing.
- 57:06Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean obvious, obviously the standard of these awards
- 57:11Speaker 8: are not quite what they were in the past. I mean,
- 57:16Speaker 8: you know, everybody think about it. Everybody gets a participation
- 57:21Speaker 8: trophy these days, so these awards don't mean that much.
- 57:27Speaker 8: And so you know, like and they probably hired really
- 57:31Speaker 8: young writers and stuff that will tow the line and
- 57:36Speaker 8: are like a bit less expensive and a bit more controllable.
- 57:42Speaker 8: And because you know, if you were a really good writer,
- 57:46Speaker 8: you would push back on like whatever edits that those
- 57:51Speaker 8: people would like to like do to your script, So
- 57:56Speaker 8: they would never hire such a writer. So woul high
- 58:00Speaker 8: writers that would actually say okay, sir, yeah, okay, no problem,
- 58:06Speaker 8: let's do this. Oh you you want you into like
- 58:10Speaker 8: watching parts, Okay, no problem, let's do that.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:14Speaker 4: Well, and I don't even think it's that malicious. It's
- 58:17Speaker 4: just that it's they know what what the executives want.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Right.
- 58:23Speaker 4: If you want to keep your job and not keep
- 58:26Speaker 4: fighting with them and you know, be a problem, then
- 58:30Speaker 4: you you just do what you're supposed to do and
- 58:34Speaker 4: you know what they like, and you write to that standard.
- 58:38Speaker 3: That's true. I mean if you paint houses, yeah, and
- 58:41Speaker 3: and someone brings you in and they say, I want
- 58:43Speaker 3: this room to be green, yeah, and you tell them, well,
- 58:46Speaker 3: you know, with the light coming in over here and
- 58:47Speaker 3: this and the hard should be this college set. Okay,
- 58:54Speaker 3: it's your house. Yeah, paint of green. Yeah, yeah, you
- 58:57Speaker 3: know it looks like shit. You know, it looks like
- 58:59Speaker 3: ship at the end.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Well you check cashed, you're right, You're just like whatever.
- 59:04Speaker 3: So this is what they meant. I didn't think about
- 59:07Speaker 3: it until now, but you know, maybe maybe the writers
- 59:09Speaker 3: are perfectly competent, but yeah, they know that this is
- 59:13Speaker 3: what the producer wants. So this is what the producer gets.
- 59:16Speaker 4: Yeah exactly.
- 59:19Speaker 8: I mean at this point it probably end up being
- 59:22Speaker 8: attacked right up for paramount.
- 59:26Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe they'll Batgirls second season.
- 59:28Speaker 8: Oh no, oh I hope, so, oh my god, I hope.
- 59:32Speaker 8: So I mean this is already torture for you guys,
- 59:36Speaker 8: I don't wish I don't wish this on my worst enemy.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's pretty rough, but hopefully, I mean, the
- 59:46Speaker 4: first two episodes were better. But even the more I
- 59:50Speaker 4: think about it, the more I I feel like they
- 59:52Speaker 4: started with the bad foundation with Mirror because if he's
- 59:56Speaker 4: if he's so smart and like he evaded the Federation
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: for twenty years or whatever it was, right, why why
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: does he need their help? What does he care about them?
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just it's such a bad logic gap.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: But I mean, you know, if.
- 1:00:15Speaker 8: There were like twenty six episodes per season, like it
- 1:00:19Speaker 8: usually is back in the days, you could have these
- 1:00:22Speaker 8: you know, one off sort of these stuff that they
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: can use to uh, let's say virtual signal and stuff.
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: But then you could have a few other episodes which
- 1:00:35Speaker 8: are like really for the for the trek ease or
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: for the old school people. But with ten episodes, there
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: is absolutely no space for this.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: Yeah, they got to make it tighter, or they need
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: to bring back Rumple still skin from D nine, Right,
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: all right, thanks yeah, thanks His response from thanks, Yeah,
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: all right, we got a few other people waiting, so
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: let's bring him on. Oh man, we got your arch
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: rival strong Bird. He's on the wings.
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: So I'm gonna go with me today.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: That's good, good, good.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: It's good to be back. It's, yeah, the earliest I've
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: been on on this show.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: So I'm gonna say what happened? You're up early?
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: Yeah, kindally been dealing with the flu. So everybody got it.
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: I had it earlier this week.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: So.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Tell everybody who you are.
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: Oh so I'm Key Bear. So yeah, that's me.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: That you scans for the bear.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: The Bear.
- 1:02:04Speaker 9: It's like sports ball, the right there the yeah, oh man,
- 1:02:11Speaker 9: would you think I almost turned it off after the
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: first few minutes when they said, oh, the Klingon Empire
- 1:02:17Speaker 9: is decimated, I'm like, no.
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: You did that to the Romulans. I get it. It
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: forced them to reunite on Nivar. I like that storyline.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: But you're just destroying everything, like you're just destroying the lore.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: You're not building new law, you're not advancing it. You're
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: just taking away beloved characters and writing and stories and
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: tossing it to side. So I might I don't know
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: what were destroyed. The federation was destroyed. Now they like
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: I think it's that I'm looking back is the burn
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: is a bigger problem than people think because it put
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: the utopian society into a post apocalyptic world and they
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: did it to, you know, tear it down so we
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: can rebuild it up. But they're trying to rebuild it
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: up in kind of the same way that it was
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: built up before. But it's not working because there's too
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: many things that they didn't factor in and take into account.
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: There's too much history and you can't do it the
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: same way. And yeah, that was right. It's writing. I
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: don't care what people are saying, from the haters, the lovers,
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: who hates it and likes it. It comes down to
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: the writing because it could be a content you don't
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: like or content you really love. If the writing's bad,
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: it's just battle around. Yeah, yeah, that's wy I'm struggling then.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you need that foundation, you do.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, Because there's genres that I don't like. If
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: the writing's good, I'll I'll go, okay, I'll check this out.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: There's there's genres that I I don't necessarily like, like
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: that Yellowstone. I'm not really big into that genre, but
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: I watched the first few episodes and I'm like, oh,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: this is kind of cool. I'll check it out. You know,
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: in the writing you said yellowstone, Yes, yellowstone, Okay, I
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: heard I'm a little stone. That's okay, I'm a little stone.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: You know I have a little stones, Like yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: it was great. I'm a little stone.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: I'm not really into those those kind of but the
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: writing was really good. Here's a genre that that's it's
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: my genre. It's my favorite genre. Yeah, it's my favorite
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: sub section of my favorite genre. And I'm having a
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: hard time with it.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: Yeah, especially the thirty first section that was the worst
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: of the writing.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: I mean, Daniel isn't like Stargate, but that was still
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: good writing. It was entertaining, and I'm i mean, here's
- 1:04:55Speaker 6: here's what we're gonna see is we're going to see
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: the new version come out in a couple of years,
- 1:04:59Speaker 6: and it'll be a great contrast to what New Trek
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: has become. And I'm really looking forward to see how
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: they change it because they tried to go that dark
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: route with the last series. Can't I remember that one?
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: That's how bad that was, and it had some critically
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: acclaim writing, but nothing to this to this level, and
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: I'm just waiting for Mataus to come back have a script,
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: and Q just snaps his fingers and we're back to
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: good writing all of a sudden. Yeah, and there's like
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: some slide comment about you know, someone's bad Holideck storylines
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: or something.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, don't hold your breath.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: Well he's done filming Vision Quest supposedly, so.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, I mean, don't don't breath about them
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: closing the door on this corner of Star Trek. Everything
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: in the world says that Disney should do the same thing.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: Everything in the world says that Disney should ignore the
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: sequel trilogy and continue and continue on from The Mandalorian,
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: and they just they just won't do it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: Yeah, even then though that last season The Mandalorian was
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: a little shaky.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: Yeah, and who knows how the movie's gonna be mhmm, yeah.
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I kind of lost. I don't know. I'm I'm
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: gonna go back to watching Orville reruns and the Car season.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna go Yeah, I think I'm gonna go back
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: and watch the Orville again.
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: Actually I just did that, went to like just looking
- 1:06:29Speaker 6: for clips of watching old shows and even Game of Thrones.
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: I was sorry to watch some of those old except
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: for season eight, but how good the writing was on that,
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: And I think that's what I'm craving is a show
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: with good writing.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: I recently rewatched The Avatar the Last Airbender Netflix show,
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: like the live action one, and that's like a young
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: adults show, also made by Paramount Right, and it's amazing
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: how different it is from start Fleeting Academy Like. Their
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: characters are well handled and and the storylines are very
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: intricate and well thought out. It's fascinating the world the
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: difference between the two.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: I know you guys didn't watch Prodigy, but it was
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: a lot better written.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: That's what I've heard.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: I watched them.
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: You just gotta get past dal. I bought the DVDs
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: or blue rays because my daughter was really into that show.
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: Platform Ye, so, but yeah, starts to Academy data. I
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: don't know who their target audience was for it, but
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: I think they missed the mark on their target audience
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: because they're.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Portraying Star Trek fans.
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not so even if it wasn't to try
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: to get new fans, they're portraying students that look like
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: they're in college age as high school students, high school
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: level things, and it's like, who's really watching and even
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: with the language, and I just don't think they're connecting
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: with any other audiences at that age. So I don't
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: think they're doing what they're supposed to be doing. Proudidge,
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: you did a better job I think at it, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: it's just you just got to get this past Dalla's
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: character for the first few yeah, and then he gets better.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, But even like the language change, it's
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: to me, it's disingenuous to oh, like, okay, so you
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: bring them on right at new fans right with this
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: new stuff, and so the hope is they go back
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: and watch old Star Trek. So they go watch it
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: and they're like, what the hell is this? Yeah, it's
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: completely different, you know.
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: I got I had a hard time with that. I
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: showed her Prodigy and then I tried to have her
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: watch a couple episodes of Voyager and she just tuned
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: out because it's a different it's different written, it's written,
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: it's written differently than Proudly was. So I think, what
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: the hope is it's going to take some time, because
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: they're gonna have to get older to really truly appreciate
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: the level the writing was for some of the old truck.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: So right, there's gonna be a gap. And I don't
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: think they, you know, marketing and whoever's driving this is
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: really understanding that.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: As far as a modern language too, you know, like, yeah,
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: that that takes me out when they when they use
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: you know, twenty first century language in a thirty second
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: century show. Dan, you watched The Flash, you know, like
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: when the kids came from the future, they were using
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: words this way and stuff like that. You know, come
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: up with some clever funny. Don't over use it, words
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: or phrases for the thirty second century to intersperse instead
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: of you know, using chicken shit. Yeah, you know, like
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: it doesn't make sense and make it up.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: That's a wizard and yeah, right whatever.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Maybe words that we know in combinations we don't know.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: That's how language works and evolution works.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, six seven exactly. Yeah, you've got so many
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: episodes about that.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: I know that was that was skimmity skibbity waste extraction.
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: So high of you.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Somebody in the comments said, no, cap, Yeah, that.
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: Was me yeah, I'm trying to understand what my daughters
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: are talking about right now. So yeah, but on a
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: good note to leave you guys, is I like the
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: Klingon theme? That was cool on the battle. Yeah, that
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: was like, yes, you know, it got me back into
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: it and then yeah but anyways.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: All right, well awesome, Well thanks for being on key Bear.
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: It was good at.
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, see you guys.
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: All right, all right, we got Jazz. But he's been
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: showing me a tour of his house entire time. It's
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: like running around, so let me bring him on. There's Jasmins.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: Heybody, Hey, what's up.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: There?
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: Can you hear us?
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: You guys hear me?
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: Yeah? Can you hear us? Oh no, can you hear us? Hello?
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: What did we can hear you? Yeah?
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: We can hear you.
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: Jiggle it.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: He never has sound issues.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: Yeah we hear you.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: Yeah you hear you? Get any sound?
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: Oh no? Oh no, all right we'll.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: Be right again.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll do that in the meantime. I tree you
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: Prime says I've been able to catch live but cirfle
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Academy is a great show. It's like Saved by the
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: Balance space. It's seriously good and I just think it's
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: into the younger audience like a Disney show.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: There are good parts to it. I mean, always says
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: the visuals are amazing. Yeah, it's uh yeah, they really
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: you know. And and now all the all the sci
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: fi shows are great, all the Star Wars shows, all
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: the Marvel shows, all the Star Trek shows. The visuals
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: are great because it's easier and cheaper. Now you can
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: do more with less with the AI and stuff. I mean, oh.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: No, come on, jazz Biz, you one way.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: We're getting to the point where it's not gonna be
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: much longer. The four of us are gonna be able
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: to make a show like that and make it look
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: just as good. How you doing, jazz Biz? Can you
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: hear us?
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: Oh? It's not working for him today. That's so weird.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: Are you on your phone?
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: Yeah, he's gone, hmm, all right, anything else?
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: All right, we'll give you a pass because you've never
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: had really any audio issues, jazz Bis.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: So we got some emails, he said, yeah, I don't
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: have I don't have any emails this week.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: So well it's already getting late though. That's I'm like,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know what. I don't want
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: to get into all this right now with the email, Yeah,
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: so late.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: We can do it next week. Just make sure we
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: remember to get to them.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, let's do that, all right.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I remember like four years ago you you forgot one
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: of my emails and I was like, I couldn't go
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: to work. Yeah, thank god, you're not bitter. No, I
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: couldn't perform sexually, I was. It was just a bad
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: you couldn't perform what Yeah, it was. It was so bad.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I mean physically it was. It was so bad. So
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: don't do that to somebody else, Daniel. So if we don't,
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: if we skip an email this week, make sure you
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: get to it next week.
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: Okay, all right, all right, all right.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Thanks for watching, everybody, thanks for listening. Get with us
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: and all the socials. If you want to leave us
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: a voicemail, Daniel's about to put that up on the
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: didn't mean to put you on the spot. Just just
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: call us. We got we got a Google number and
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: nobody's gonna pick up. Just leave us a voicemail at
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: five seven zero six six to one zero zero zero one.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Tell us what your opinion is about the new Star
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: Trek show, Starfleet Academy.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: And what you'd like to see in it absolutely, and
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: then we're also on all the social medias if you
