- 2:29Speaker 1: been a minute. Yeah, you got this new record out
- 2:32Speaker 1: with Chris, which is crazy. Get back, Bro, appreciate you.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Like what's been going on in your world though, Man,
- 2:38Speaker 1: for people who ain't been paying attention, man a lot man.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Of course, the singles out right now. You know, we
- 2:44Speaker 1: just want to do something iconic for R and B.
- 2:46Speaker 1: You know, we're working on shooting the video, getting that
- 2:48Speaker 1: all the way right, setting up the summertime. I got
- 2:51Speaker 1: a couple of other singles coming. Really just focusing on
- 2:53Speaker 1: singles for this summer, you know what I'm saying, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: then project probably end of the year, top of next
- 2:57Speaker 1: year sometime. In my world, bro, I've been creating a lot,
- 3:02Speaker 1: creating a lot, writing and writing a book right now,
- 3:05Speaker 1: working on some other business. Is the book kind of
- 3:09Speaker 1: like your life story? Nah, it's not really a life story.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's more of like a memoir. It's more of like
- 3:14Speaker 1: a balancing your personal spiritual space conversation, you know, this
- 3:19Speaker 1: conversation having with myself that I'm kind of bringing the
- 3:23Speaker 1: world into. You know, I feel like I've been in
- 3:25Speaker 1: the industry so long, and I've also just been through
- 3:28Speaker 1: a lot of different things and different dimensions of my life.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I needed an outlet. You know. It's kind of like therapy,
- 3:33Speaker 1: therapy in a way, you know, So it promotes mental health,
- 3:37Speaker 1: it promotes spiritual awareness, it promotes social awareness. You know,
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's got a little bit of everything in there. You
- 3:45Speaker 1: have had a pretty wild ride through just life. When
- 3:47Speaker 1: we think about things that have happened in your personal life,
- 3:50Speaker 1: your career has always it's got peaks and valleys, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, anytime you're a creator and you're under the microscope,
- 3:57Speaker 1: it feels like, you know, sometimes we forget that, like
- 4:00Speaker 1: you're a human being, and yeah, I mean, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you have to train yourself as like you know, as
- 4:07Speaker 1: you as you get older. I started so young, but
- 4:10Speaker 1: as you get older, I think you get these pockets
- 4:12Speaker 1: of like growth, spurts of spiritual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: those are the things that you need to tap into
- 4:22Speaker 1: if you're not distracted enough too much by the lifestyle,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, And I always I've always been aware of that.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I mean I had my moments while I was super
- 4:31Speaker 1: distracted by it, but like for the most part, I've
- 4:33Speaker 1: always been self aware just because of the where I
- 4:35Speaker 1: grew up. You know what I'm saying. I've seen all
- 4:37Speaker 1: the craziest stuff in my life earlier on. So this
- 4:40Speaker 1: was just kind of like, Okay, this is more like
- 4:45Speaker 1: human behavior, you know, psychological, energetic. How do you navigate that?
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's what I feel like the industry is more so
- 4:54Speaker 1: you talk about mental health, like, yeah, how like because you've,
- 4:59Speaker 1: like I said, you've been You've dealt with stuff that
- 5:01Speaker 1: a lot of people haven't had to deal with in
- 5:03Speaker 1: their life, even and as a star, you know what
- 5:07Speaker 1: I mean, which is what's even crazier. People deal with
- 5:11Speaker 1: certain shit, no one knows who the fuck they are.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You're dealing with a lot of shit. You know what
- 5:14Speaker 1: it comes to what happened with your mom, you know,
- 5:17Speaker 1: moving back to Baltimore when you were already on you
- 5:20Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, do you feel like you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I think sometimes we look at artists and we're like,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, if we think of Mario, We're like, Okay,
- 5:30Speaker 1: what's Mario been up to? Do you feel like you've
- 5:32Speaker 1: had to like kind of battle through any like personal
- 5:34Speaker 1: depression or anything to kind of break through, like to
- 5:37Speaker 1: where you are today. What we call depression. I mean,
- 5:44Speaker 1: this is just like my perspective, but what we call
- 5:46Speaker 1: depression and you know, stress and just those immense, deep
- 5:52Speaker 1: moments of like where you feel like your life is over,
- 5:55Speaker 1: the world is over, is triggers for us to work
- 5:58Speaker 1: on things that are unhealed, that we're not walking a
- 6:03Speaker 1: path that's true to our purpose sometimes, you know what
- 6:06Speaker 1: I mean. So for me, it was like I have
- 6:08Speaker 1: moments of depression, but I didn't sit them in them
- 6:11Speaker 1: too long. I'm more so spent more time just studying
- 6:13Speaker 1: and understanding my history, understanding you know, my purpose outside
- 6:19Speaker 1: of just music, and it just gave me more more
- 6:21Speaker 1: of a of a purpose and foundation when it comes
- 6:24Speaker 1: to me as a human being, and that helps with
- 6:27Speaker 1: everything else. Once I figured that part out, and luckily
- 6:30Speaker 1: I started young enough to whear those five six years
- 6:32Speaker 1: where I was just like not really doing the music
- 6:36Speaker 1: thing and just kind of focusing on myself. Luckily I
- 6:38Speaker 1: started so young, you know, because now it's like I
- 6:40Speaker 1: have all of that knowledge to kind of like apply
- 6:42Speaker 1: to by now, which I was gonna say everything. Bro,
- 6:45Speaker 1: do you think starting kind of having to be forced
- 6:47Speaker 1: to grow up fast? Right? Yeah? Do you think that
- 6:50Speaker 1: that kind of helped prepare you for life? Like you know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I had maybe you gone through some of the things
- 6:54Speaker 1: you went through at eighteen or nineteen years old without
- 6:57Speaker 1: having to have been kind of a superstar, and you know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: b Mario, do you think that that kind of helped
- 7:02Speaker 1: prepare you for some of the things you did go
- 7:03Speaker 1: through later on? I think, like I said before, just
- 7:07Speaker 1: coming from Baltimore, being exposed to so much at a
- 7:10Speaker 1: young age, like you know, being in the house full
- 7:13Speaker 1: of eighteen with eighteen people as uncles, cousins, mom's, boyfriends, aunties,
- 7:18Speaker 1: boy like, it was just you know, it was one
- 7:20Speaker 1: of those houses. Like when we lived in Emerson Village,
- 7:23Speaker 1: it was like remember that scene on Men, It's a
- 7:27Speaker 1: society and beginning to open the scene. I wouldn't say
- 7:31Speaker 1: kids was exposed all the way, but it was it
- 7:34Speaker 1: was close to that. Like you know what I'm saying.
- 7:35Speaker 1: We didn't know what was going on, but we knew,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So, being that I saw
- 7:40Speaker 1: so much and I was exposed to so much, I
- 7:42Speaker 1: had already been prepared mentally for inconsistencies in dealing with
- 7:47Speaker 1: things and dealing with people, dealing with certain and so
- 7:49Speaker 1: I didn't as I got older, I didn't like like
- 7:52Speaker 1: attach it to a reality my mind. It was like, Okay,
- 7:55Speaker 1: this is my reality, and the reality of the space
- 7:58Speaker 1: that I'm in is this, this and that, Like you
- 7:59Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, you have a house full
- 8:01Speaker 1: of eighteen people you grow up in in Baltimore. Shout
- 8:04Speaker 1: to Baltimore, by the way, total coincidence. I'm wearing a
- 8:06Speaker 1: white shirt. I see resting piece of the rest in peace.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But uh, you get on as a teenager, Yeah, I
- 8:13Speaker 1: mean you're like super on. You're like running one of
- 8:15Speaker 1: six in park, Like you're like the next R and
- 8:18Speaker 1: B sensation, Dude, the house full of eighteen people start
- 8:22Speaker 1: looking for you to like start handling some things as
- 8:26Speaker 1: far as bills or was it not? Never like that? Nah,
- 8:29Speaker 1: It wasn't like that, bro. Like my family was very supportive.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I left Baltimore for like four years when I was
- 8:35Speaker 1: like fourteen, you know what I'm saying. So it was
- 8:36Speaker 1: more about who'd you go up to Jersey? Okay, Okay,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So it was more about
- 8:41Speaker 1: like it was more about like missing my family and
- 8:46Speaker 1: just like them understand like that transition between me being
- 8:49Speaker 1: just Mario but like the Mario the artists, like you
- 8:51Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. It wasn't like like that later
- 8:54Speaker 1: on it kind of in some cases, but like it was,
- 8:56Speaker 1: my family was never like like that. My family was
- 8:58Speaker 1: always supportive. My family's real, like real people, like you
- 9:02Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yeah, you talk about how you
- 9:06Speaker 1: took like a four or five year break from music
- 9:08Speaker 1: as far as like just having that be like your
- 9:10Speaker 1: main focus. Yeah, I always think it's like you as
- 9:13Speaker 1: somebody who doesn't get enough flowers for just kind of
- 9:16Speaker 1: like your legacy, like some of the records you've put
- 9:19Speaker 1: out some of the bodies of work you've had, and
- 9:21Speaker 1: like just in general, do you feel like that four
- 9:25Speaker 1: to five years was necessary even though it might have
- 9:27Speaker 1: maybe hurt your place in the game. Yeah, definitely it
- 9:31Speaker 1: was necessary for me. It was necessary for my personal growth. Again,
- 9:36Speaker 1: it was also necessary for me to like not like
- 9:41Speaker 1: attach my value to success or whatever success is perceived
- 9:47Speaker 1: to be by people to be. You know, for me,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I redefine what success was for me. So success for
- 9:53Speaker 1: me was a healthy mind, a healthy spirit. You know
- 9:55Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Success is very subjective man, longevity, bro
- 9:59Speaker 1: let's be let's keep it a hondred. Like we live,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you know, these lives. You know, we have twenty four
- 10:04Speaker 1: hours in a day. You know, when you become an artists,
- 10:08Speaker 1: there's so many other things that people don't realize, the
- 10:11Speaker 1: responsibilities and the stress that come with being an artist,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Like it really can take a toll on you. So
- 10:15Speaker 1: if you're not like preparing yourself for the next ten years,
- 10:18Speaker 1: then I don't think Like for me, I feel like
- 10:21Speaker 1: artists have to learn how to prepare themselves for the
- 10:23Speaker 1: next ten to fifteen years. Like, what's your retirement plan?
- 10:25Speaker 1: Like you feel me because like you know, this shit
- 10:29Speaker 1: music come and go. I've been blessed enough to come
- 10:31Speaker 1: out in a time where like music was really about classics.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, this is true. People be like, yo,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you are you making a comebacks? Like, nah, it's not
- 10:40Speaker 1: really a comeback. Let me love you streams two million
- 10:43Speaker 1: times every day and a half. That's so crazy, you
- 10:46Speaker 1: feel me how to breathe? Like, my hits still go crazy, sure,
- 10:50Speaker 1: as if they just came out. So it's like for me,
- 10:52Speaker 1: it's just more of a rebranding thing than it is
- 10:54Speaker 1: a coming back thing. Yeah, I think like you said, man,
- 10:56Speaker 1: I think like when we think of success, like success
- 10:58Speaker 1: is defined it every everyone's personal like happiness. Yeah, life,
- 11:03Speaker 1: for sure, I'm not you know. I think that there's
- 11:05Speaker 1: like if you if you're if you're in the industry
- 11:10Speaker 1: and you're known for being an artist, there is definitely
- 11:16Speaker 1: certain milestone, certain milestones and certain things that comes with
- 11:19Speaker 1: Like somebody can view your success as an artist in
- 11:22Speaker 1: terms of the numbers and in terms of like there's
- 11:24Speaker 1: there's no you know, but in terms of like personal success,
- 11:27Speaker 1: that's that's something that you have to that has to
- 11:29Speaker 1: be your own personal virtue, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But I think that success comes with happiness comes with success.
- 11:36Speaker 1: To me, it's like if I'm not happy, whether it's
- 11:39Speaker 1: a relationship, a business, working partnership, like if we're not
- 11:44Speaker 1: enjoying the process of this, and I think the pandemic
- 11:47Speaker 1: shure that's all that, Like, Yo, are you enjoying what
- 11:49Speaker 1: you do? Like who are you really outside of just
- 11:52Speaker 1: what the world knows you for or your public perception
- 11:54Speaker 1: of that way during the way, Yeah, you know, so,
- 11:57Speaker 1: so success has to go for me, true success has
- 12:00Speaker 1: to run hand in hand with happiness and peace and
- 12:04Speaker 1: enjoying what you're doing and enjoying the process whether you're
- 12:07Speaker 1: making money, are you Are you enjoying what you do
- 12:09Speaker 1: while you're making this bread? Like you know what I'm saying.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So music wise, now, you obviously put the new record
- 12:16Speaker 1: out with Chris, which is dope to see you guys
- 12:18Speaker 1: on because you guys kind of had like I guess,
- 12:21Speaker 1: kind of from the same era a bit, right, Yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 1: I mean I came out a few years before. I'd
- 12:25Speaker 1: say you came out first, but like you know, kind
- 12:27Speaker 1: of you know, similar eras, Like I feel like what
- 12:30Speaker 1: also came. He is crazy because the first time I
- 12:32Speaker 1: ever seen him he came out on tour. I was
- 12:35Speaker 1: on tour with Beyonce and he came out on stage
- 12:38Speaker 1: and did I think he did run it? That sounds
- 12:40Speaker 1: about right, And I was like, Yo, this kid is
- 12:43Speaker 1: out of here, like he's a superstar. Like it was
- 12:45Speaker 1: just which Beyonce tour was at. It was Destiney Show Tour.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I forgot the name of it, but it was so
- 12:49Speaker 1: you were on tour with Destiny's Child World tour with
- 12:52Speaker 1: the world to it is crazy. I had to be wild. Wow. Bro,
- 12:54Speaker 1: So this is before Beyonce went solo every every continent. Basically,
- 12:58Speaker 1: this is pre Beyonce going so alone. Pretty crazy in
- 13:01Speaker 1: love Yeah oh wow. Yeah. So that was like that
- 13:04Speaker 1: was a special time people were forgetting Destiny's Child like
- 13:06Speaker 1: as a group and like how crazy they were, Like
- 13:08Speaker 1: it was they had a lot of hits and they
- 13:10Speaker 1: had a lot their fan base was just versatile and
- 13:12Speaker 1: just you know, I think they came out a time
- 13:15Speaker 1: where like girl groups and groups in general was still like,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, popping, and it was it was important to
- 13:20Speaker 1: the culture. They were kind of like the last great
- 13:23Speaker 1: female group who really think about it, like when it
- 13:27Speaker 1: was like the last time there's been an amazing like
- 13:29Speaker 1: female R and B group that really like, I can't
- 13:31Speaker 1: really think of one bro like that. Nah. I feel
- 13:34Speaker 1: like they were the last of their they were kind
- 13:35Speaker 1: you know, and even R and B groups in general,
- 13:38Speaker 1: and the last who everybody kind of branched off and
- 13:40Speaker 1: did their own thing and put out like actual independent
- 13:43Speaker 1: projects that had success too. You know. I just think
- 13:45Speaker 1: of like, you know, when I was a kid, it
- 13:46Speaker 1: was like Drew Hill, there was Jagged Edge, There's one twelve,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and like now I don't like, is there an R
- 13:51Speaker 1: and B group that I'm forgetting that? I'm just like,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I feel like it's been so many like on and off.
- 13:56Speaker 1: But now as far as girl groups, I can't remember any.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Did you kind of did every one kind of know
- 14:00Speaker 1: when you were around Dusty Shop back then that Beyonce
- 14:02Speaker 1: was like, you know, okay, there's something special about of course,
- 14:06Speaker 1: be like, you know, she's of course, yeah, you know
- 14:08Speaker 1: what I'm saying, she a superstar. She a virgo like me,
- 14:12Speaker 1: he shout out to the verb said Virgos do it
- 14:14Speaker 1: the best. Michael Jackson a lot of great Now, I
- 14:17Speaker 1: think I think it all goes back to work ethic
- 14:19Speaker 1: bro like she was. She was training Bread for it,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know from from a young age. You know, think
- 14:25Speaker 1: about Michael like he was training Bread for it. You
- 14:27Speaker 1: know what you focus your attention and awareness on. It's
- 14:30Speaker 1: going to continue to to to magnify, you know what
- 14:33Speaker 1: I'm saying, and be more magnetic, so in polarizing. So
- 14:36Speaker 1: you know, it's crazy because I think when I think
- 14:38Speaker 1: of BT and one O six in Park, I think
- 14:40Speaker 1: of you, I think of bow Wow, I think of
- 14:42Speaker 1: a few artists. Do you remember the first time you
- 14:44Speaker 1: went on One of six and Park and like who
- 14:47Speaker 1: was hosting? Yeah, A J and Free was hosting. That's
- 14:49Speaker 1: the see that's the ogs, Like AG and Free is like,
- 14:52Speaker 1: that's how I remember One O six in Park. There
- 14:55Speaker 1: were so many other you know, incarnations of the hosts
- 14:58Speaker 1: of the show, but AJ and Free were the ones,
- 15:00Speaker 1: the original, you know, they the original man in the
- 15:02Speaker 1: in the whole team over there. Like I see some
- 15:05Speaker 1: of them still on different production sets, movie sets, war shows.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You know, everybody still It's crazy. You see people AJ's
- 15:11Speaker 1: on like Entertainment tonight. At least he was like I'd
- 15:13Speaker 1: be like Entertainment tonight was I'm like, yeah, I don't
- 15:17Speaker 1: watch a lot of TV, so with no but yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: Ag always was doing his thing. Yeah no, that's crazy man.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah that's so. Do you remember how many times you
- 15:23Speaker 1: actually ended up going because you know you were on
- 15:25Speaker 1: there a lot. I can't remember offhand, but like I
- 15:28Speaker 1: would say probably least like ten times or more. That's huge,
- 15:34Speaker 1: ten times that many. Still, I think I think we
- 15:37Speaker 1: definitely got to bring something like that back. I think
- 15:38Speaker 1: the Call to You Will Miss I think YouTube kind
- 15:41Speaker 1: of killed the Video Show, if that makes sense, because
- 15:44Speaker 1: I think they've tried to bring back t r L
- 15:46Speaker 1: before and it just didn't. I just think you think,
- 15:48Speaker 1: I think the digital Crusade in general did it. Yeah.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Like it's like, so there's so people creating their own
- 15:53Speaker 1: podcast on this, they on that that is like it's
- 15:56Speaker 1: just some go where they want to get there. It's
- 15:58Speaker 1: it's a different It's definitely just everything's just different. Like
- 16:02Speaker 1: I'm working on something crazy in that space kind of
- 16:06Speaker 1: but bigger right now. I can't talk about it all
- 16:09Speaker 1: the way, but it's gonna be it's gonna be super crazy.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Like I'm working on some cool stuff. Would you ever
- 16:14Speaker 1: do like a show like the Mass Singer if they
- 16:16Speaker 1: asked you, yeah, I'll do that for fun for sure.
- 16:20Speaker 1: The Mass SERI has been kind of lit, low key.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I do that for fun. It's like certain people like
- 16:24Speaker 1: Whiz was on there. I want to say, Tiger was
- 16:27Speaker 1: on there. Obviously Tiger did it? Did it? That's great?
- 16:30Speaker 1: T Paying one, t pain one, Yeah did Yeah. I
- 16:36Speaker 1: would definitely do it because I think it's I think
- 16:38Speaker 1: it's because I would be able to show people like
- 16:41Speaker 1: the other sides of my voice, the other textures and
- 16:43Speaker 1: tones that I because it's like R and B is
- 16:45Speaker 1: like I haven't even people haven't even touched, like seen
- 16:49Speaker 1: or experienced like the magnitude of where I can go vocally.
- 16:52Speaker 1: So that's definitely one that I would do. Like, how
- 16:56Speaker 1: do you feel about the current state of R and B,
- 16:57Speaker 1: Because it's definitely a lot different than ten to fifteen
- 17:00Speaker 1: years ago as far as just like you know, I
- 17:03Speaker 1: feel like I feel like R and B has changed
- 17:06Speaker 1: so much, even just like you know, we talked about
- 17:08Speaker 1: the digital era, I feel like artists are so like
- 17:12Speaker 1: they have to be more transparent now as to where
- 17:14Speaker 1: maybe when you know I was a kid and you
- 17:16Speaker 1: were a kid. You know, every R and B artist
- 17:19Speaker 1: had this like image, right, they were like sex symbols.
- 17:22Speaker 1: They had polish. It was very polished. Nowadays it's like
- 17:27Speaker 1: you could just be a normal dude and like the
- 17:30Speaker 1: fans almost like that more now, Yes, I think it's
- 17:32Speaker 1: getting back to no point, it's in it. It's getting
- 17:36Speaker 1: back to the rawness and connecting with your fans and
- 17:40Speaker 1: connecting with people and jamming, you know what I'm saying,
- 17:43Speaker 1: jam sessions. Getting back to just you know, working with
- 17:47Speaker 1: people that you vibe with on a creative level and
- 17:50Speaker 1: making music that you love and hopefully having a label
- 17:53Speaker 1: that supports that. Do you like it? Do you like
- 17:54Speaker 1: the artist? Now? I think the hardest part about it
- 17:57Speaker 1: is finding a machine that's willing to get behind, even
- 18:05Speaker 1: if it's independent, because independents are now like the new labels,
- 18:09Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying, like the process, you
- 18:11Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, getting them to also believe in
- 18:13Speaker 1: like because it's so much in the marketplace, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 1: so rmb tends to take longer to built, you know,
- 18:20Speaker 1: unless you're just one of those phenomenons like a Russ
- 18:22Speaker 1: who like figure out how to you know, do your
- 18:25Speaker 1: well you know, Yeah, what Rust did is what I
- 18:29Speaker 1: just advise a lot of artists to do. It's like,
- 18:31Speaker 1: just keep putting up shots, especially if you're independent. Yes,
- 18:35Speaker 1: but you gotta understand that's a psychological part that comes
- 18:39Speaker 1: with that. And sorry, I'm moving around a lot. You're
- 18:40Speaker 1: like very like it. It's a psychological part that comes
- 18:44Speaker 1: with doing that. Like when you're when you're trained to okay,
- 18:51Speaker 1: one single here and then album, like you gotta like
- 18:53Speaker 1: retrain yourself. I've been retraining myself because you're thinking, like, Okay,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I got a song, we got to make sure there's
- 18:59Speaker 1: a budget behind it, the video, Bro, the vergo, like,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I think so meticulously my they'd be like, Bro, you
- 19:05Speaker 1: over think. I'm very like the colors that this got
- 19:08Speaker 1: a master. Even when I did my independent project, I
- 19:10Speaker 1: was shooting my videos, I was doing I was so
- 19:13Speaker 1: meticulous versus just throwing out music and just seeing what stick.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. So I'm training myself to
- 19:19Speaker 1: kind of find a balance between being overly creative and like,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you know, everything's got to be perfect to just yo,
- 19:27Speaker 1: do what you love. Are you currently independent? Yeah? Okay,
- 19:30Speaker 1: that's a good place. I got a partnership, so me,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Dre London, great guy, he's a maniac. I know that guy.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Shout out to my manager Andy. You know, we you know,
- 19:41Speaker 1: we just we partnering it and we got a lot
- 19:43Speaker 1: of great things on the way, you know. I think
- 19:44Speaker 1: it's done a really good job of being like kind
- 19:46Speaker 1: of like a traditional R and B artist, but also
- 19:49Speaker 1: adapting to the way people can sue music. As Eric Bellinger, Yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 1: because Serk has has he's got so much catalog. Yeah,
- 19:59Speaker 1: I mean he's putting out two albums a year. Yeah,
- 20:01Speaker 1: And I think that's smart for him, though, I think
- 20:03Speaker 1: I think it's it's very it's very like, you know,
- 20:07Speaker 1: he's like one of the guys who I see who's
- 20:09Speaker 1: like a traditional R and B artist that could have
- 20:12Speaker 1: existed in two thousand and three for sure, and has
- 20:15Speaker 1: figured out kind of like how to do it independently
- 20:18Speaker 1: in a way that like, you know, just keep putting
- 20:21Speaker 1: up put He's just feeding his fan base, you know,
- 20:23Speaker 1: for sure. That's that's the I think like for artists
- 20:26Speaker 1: who came out in this particular error, I think it's smart.
- 20:30Speaker 1: For me, it's more about like still making classic records,
- 20:33Speaker 1: even if it's you know, it's like it's like it
- 20:36Speaker 1: still has to have a certain energy and vibe to
- 20:39Speaker 1: its whereas though it stands out from everything else. You
- 20:41Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I'm not just like throwing anything
- 20:44Speaker 1: against the against the board. I don't have an enemy
- 20:46Speaker 1: to do that. But I definitely will say to the
- 20:49Speaker 1: fans out there watching, see the people out there, like
- 20:52Speaker 1: this is probably gonna be the most music but within
- 20:54Speaker 1: this next two years that I put out in a
- 20:56Speaker 1: long time, that's actually quality of music. Have you? You
- 20:59Speaker 1: know what was dope about the pandemic is we get
- 21:02Speaker 1: all these verses battles. Yeah, and the Scott Storch one.
- 21:05Speaker 1: You know, he had to bust out there and let
- 21:06Speaker 1: me love you, yes sir, remind people, uh you and
- 21:10Speaker 1: Storch get back. I mean Storch is super active right now.
- 21:12Speaker 1: He's doing the simmon thing. We definitely we wrap it up.
- 21:16Speaker 1: We've been chopping it up, so it's always it's always
- 21:18Speaker 1: a time and the energy thing. It's gonna be crazy.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I actually got a record that I want him to
- 21:23Speaker 1: do some production on. It's already written. Fire got a
- 21:25Speaker 1: feature on the Fire. But I just hear his touch. Man,
- 21:29Speaker 1: he's Scott is one of the most prolific producers. He
- 21:32Speaker 1: really understands musicality and he just he gets it. Bro,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he's talent. You you can't take you During the Let
- 21:38Speaker 1: Me Love You air, did you like ever go party
- 21:39Speaker 1: with him? When he was like on his like you
- 21:40Speaker 1: know what do you mean? Of course? This is like
- 21:43Speaker 1: legendary guy and the party stories are crazy. Listen, this
- 21:46Speaker 1: is to Miami. Okay, Scott introduced me to Miami, like
- 21:52Speaker 1: the Scott storchway. You feel me? Like, so yeah, Like
- 21:56Speaker 1: we just keep that with us. Hey, we know we
- 21:57Speaker 1: gotta stop the podcast real quick. Shout out to my
- 22:00Speaker 1: bookiey man. Listen. If you know anything about me, you

- 23:48Speaker 1: doing some great thing, doing his thing, doing his thing,
- 23:50Speaker 1: great things, and he's just a great dude, man, great father, amazing,
- 23:55Speaker 1: amazing guy. Yes, So you say you're putting on more
- 23:59Speaker 1: music in the next two and you've ever put out?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Is this like, do you already have like a body
- 24:02Speaker 1: of work put together? Are you still are you just
- 24:04Speaker 1: constantly recording? Like? Nah, constantly? Well, I wouldn't say constantly.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I'm very I don't just record just to record. It's
- 24:12Speaker 1: an energy thing for me. When I go in the studio,
- 24:15Speaker 1: it's like while it depends on who I'm working with.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Like sometimes I work with writers and I'm like, we vibe,
- 24:20Speaker 1: Like I'm gonna go ahead and get this producer to
- 24:22Speaker 1: come in, this producer come in, and you know, we
- 24:25Speaker 1: just go in and go crazy on some you know
- 24:27Speaker 1: what I mean, on records because the vibe is there.
- 24:29Speaker 1: If the ViBe's on there, we just cool, we kick
- 24:31Speaker 1: it whatever, whatever. So I'm just finding out out who
- 24:34Speaker 1: speaks my language right now, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:36Speaker 1: who how we can affect the culture together there it is.
- 24:41Speaker 1: We were talking about The Wire a bit. I got
- 24:42Speaker 1: the Wire shirt on. When you watch The Wire, did
- 24:44Speaker 1: you ever Obviously, being from Baltimore, that show was probably
- 24:47Speaker 1: came out right around the time you probably started to
- 24:51Speaker 1: Like I don't remember the year came out, but I
- 24:53Speaker 1: do remember, like when I first saw it, I'm like, Yo,
- 24:55Speaker 1: this is how realistic was it to the city, Like,
- 24:58Speaker 1: because I've heard a lot of people say it was
- 25:00Speaker 1: pretty spot on. It's bro it was really on, man.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Baltimore is a super raw city. Like, you know, what
- 25:05Speaker 1: you see is what you get, you know what I mean,
- 25:07Speaker 1: And if you go deeper into it, you're gonna see
- 25:09Speaker 1: you know, it's like so many different levels to it,
- 25:12Speaker 1: but like it was definitely spot on, you know, from
- 25:15Speaker 1: what I've experienced on what I've seen in my life
- 25:17Speaker 1: growing up characters, you know, the Yeah, it was in
- 25:22Speaker 1: the city, bro, it was looking black. It was all
- 25:24Speaker 1: of the houses I'll see, Like it's a lot of
- 25:26Speaker 1: the actors too, were just like just they found them
- 25:29Speaker 1: in Baltimore, like Snoop. Snoop was just in Baltimore. Like
- 25:33Speaker 1: it was real, man, it was real. It was one
- 25:35Speaker 1: of the best depictions of like if you're shooting that
- 25:37Speaker 1: side of it. I think there's a lot about Baltimore
- 25:40Speaker 1: that hasn't been shown though, you know what I'm saying
- 25:42Speaker 1: from the maybe the positives, the positive aspects, the politics,
- 25:46Speaker 1: how it's grown. You know, I'm working on some projects
- 25:50Speaker 1: there right now too, to like bridge music, intellect and
- 25:57Speaker 1: mental health. So yeah, man, it's gonna be passionate about
- 26:02Speaker 1: about making sure you make your impact back home. I am.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I don't feel like I've done enough enough to be honest, right. Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 1: So this year next year, like that was just my
- 26:11Speaker 1: main focus on outside of just like music stuff and
- 26:13Speaker 1: business stuff. How did you end up linking up with
- 26:16Speaker 1: Dre London? For people who don't know, Dre's a fucking
- 26:18Speaker 1: mogo in the business. But he also you know, I've
- 26:20Speaker 1: known Dres since twenty fourteen. Yeah, but he works with
- 26:24Speaker 1: post Malone, you know, he's yeah, he manages post Malone. Yeah,
- 26:27Speaker 1: he's a great business dude. Like I've met Dre through
- 26:29Speaker 1: through my manager Andy, who I've known for like thirteen years.
- 26:32Speaker 1: We've been homees for years and he's been doing his thing,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and you know, it was just a conversation bro about music,
- 26:37Speaker 1: about culture, about you know, about black music, and uh,
- 26:43Speaker 1: it was a note bringer. You know, we just we
- 26:45Speaker 1: got the same vision when it comes to like, you know,
- 26:49Speaker 1: how to impact the culture from an R and B standpoint,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and also me just stepping back into my my independency,
- 26:58Speaker 1: but also doing it with people who've done it on
- 27:00Speaker 1: a certain level. I've done it on a certain level already,
- 27:02Speaker 1: so I have to work with people who understand that,
- 27:05Speaker 1: but who also understands the boss part of it, in
- 27:07Speaker 1: the independent part of it. You know, it's a lot
- 27:11Speaker 1: more responsibility when you're independent artist. As you know, it's
- 27:15Speaker 1: crazy because you know, with what you went through with
- 27:16Speaker 1: your mom obviously passing away. I feel like today there's
- 27:20Speaker 1: a lot of kids who are probably going through that
- 27:22Speaker 1: specific ordeal because of just the where the world is
- 27:29Speaker 1: with opiates and fetanol and like, there's a lot of
- 27:33Speaker 1: kids who are dealing with their parents that are addicted
- 27:35Speaker 1: or dealing with losing their parents to overdoses. What would
- 27:38Speaker 1: be some advice You've lived it and unfortunately, obviously the
- 27:42Speaker 1: absolute worst thing came true for you, but you got
- 27:45Speaker 1: through it. You're here today. What would be some advice
- 27:47Speaker 1: for someone watching this who might be dealing with someone
- 27:50Speaker 1: who they loved that's going through something like that that
- 27:52Speaker 1: you could give them that maybe you know, you lived
- 27:54Speaker 1: it for them, kind of counselor talk to somebody, you know.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I wish I would have started sooner. I just actually
- 28:02Speaker 1: started mental health counseling, childhood trauma counselor, and I'm okay
- 28:08Speaker 1: speaking about it because it's something that you know, when
- 28:15Speaker 1: you're a strong person and you're able to take the
- 28:17Speaker 1: world on your shoulders and perform under pressure, oftentimes you
- 28:24Speaker 1: train yourself to think that you don't need, you know, counselor,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you don't need to talk about things that really bother you.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Like it isn't until something really triggers you that you
- 28:34Speaker 1: realize you ain't here. And I've had those instances in
- 28:38Speaker 1: my life and I've ruined relationships because of those types
- 28:40Speaker 1: of things. So I was like, you know what, let
- 28:43Speaker 1: me do this for myself so that you know, I
- 28:45Speaker 1: can have a family one day, so that I can
- 28:47Speaker 1: be a father one day, so that I can be
- 28:49Speaker 1: a better brother, so I can be a better friend.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm saying. It affects every part
- 28:52Speaker 1: of your life as you get over older, because those
- 28:55Speaker 1: things don't just leave, you know. For me, it was
- 28:58Speaker 1: definitely a driving force. It taught me how to be numb.
- 29:01Speaker 1: It taught me how to be perfectionist. It taught me
- 29:04Speaker 1: how to just focus on work, work, work, but it
- 29:06Speaker 1: didn't teach me how to heal. So I had to
- 29:08Speaker 1: take that upon myself. So I would say, man, mental
- 29:12Speaker 1: health is a real thing, and it needs to be
- 29:17Speaker 1: you know, if you know and you're dealing with something
- 29:19Speaker 1: and something's bothering you, you get triggered and you see
- 29:22Speaker 1: yourself being affected by this specific space in your life,
- 29:27Speaker 1: then you got to talk about it. You gotta get helpful. Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I think it's important for you to talk about that
- 29:31Speaker 1: because it lifts the stigma. And I think that the
- 29:32Speaker 1: stigma started to get lifted. But like when you're somebody
- 29:35Speaker 1: who is the head of the household, who so many
- 29:37Speaker 1: people depend on, you're a leader in your in your group,
- 29:41Speaker 1: your life, it's like who do you talk to? Right? Like?
- 29:44Speaker 1: Who you got to be? Somebody trust? You got to
- 29:46Speaker 1: be somebody you trust, trusted source, and you gotta feel comfortable.
- 29:49Speaker 1: But definitely don't push it under the rug. You know,
- 29:52Speaker 1: you can't force someone to stop using. You can't force
- 29:56Speaker 1: you know, someone to see how they hurting you. Sometimes
- 29:59Speaker 1: they don't know because there is a disease. You know,
- 30:02Speaker 1: Addiction is a disease man, And it's like it's it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: something that that attacks people physically and spiritually. So it's
- 30:11Speaker 1: a it's a large karmic part of it that comes
- 30:13Speaker 1: with It's so much spiritually that comes with it. You
- 30:15Speaker 1: know that if you're if you you love somebody or
- 30:18Speaker 1: you're close to somebody that's experiencing that, it's important for
- 30:21Speaker 1: you to also, you know, get help for yourself while
- 30:24Speaker 1: you're still loving them through whatever they're going through. That's
- 30:27Speaker 1: that's right, man. Yeah, sure you said you were working
- 30:30Speaker 1: on the video for this Chris Brown record. Yes, sir,
- 30:32Speaker 1: are we getting all the details together now? You know?
- 30:35Speaker 1: And Andy they're chopping it up, getting the getting it right.
- 30:38Speaker 1: How many do you have the next thing already ready?
- 30:41Speaker 1: Or you just think I got it? I think so yeah,
- 30:43Speaker 1: I think I got it? Okay, So who have you been?
- 30:46Speaker 1: You don't tell us who you got songs with? It,
- 30:47Speaker 1: just who you've been working with, Like who you've been
- 30:48Speaker 1: in the studio hanging out with maybe of course my
- 30:51Speaker 1: bro a one and then you know me in London
- 30:55Speaker 1: about to get in learning on the track, so that's
- 30:57Speaker 1: going to be a movie. Hasn't been working with d Mile?
- 31:04Speaker 1: Mm hmm. I would just say those are d Mile
- 31:07Speaker 1: of London on the track, Like those are the two
- 31:09Speaker 1: producers I'm really excited about. Like working with D Mile
- 31:12Speaker 1: is just a genius. Man. He's just a musical genius,
- 31:15Speaker 1: and he really loves music, and he really loves storytelling
- 31:18Speaker 1: and he really loved just like creating, you know what
- 31:20Speaker 1: I'm saying. So he's somebody always wanted to work with
- 31:23Speaker 1: and I feel like he just he gets music in
- 31:25Speaker 1: a way where he's like a quincy where he could
- 31:28Speaker 1: work with you this artist and that artist and give
- 31:30Speaker 1: y'all all three what's specifically for you? You know what
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm saying in a space where it's also classic and relevant.
- 31:37Speaker 1: It's crazy because London has kind of been the architect
- 31:40Speaker 1: of like some of the R and B that we
- 31:41Speaker 1: still kind of like, oh, this is actual R and B,
- 31:43Speaker 1: which is obviously Summer walker you know Summer Walkers. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:46Speaker 1: London is crazy, or some of the R and B
- 31:49Speaker 1: acts that are new or that like inspire you or
- 31:51Speaker 1: that you're just like, yeah, this is this is some
- 31:53Speaker 1: like this is some shit. I can actually really the
- 31:55Speaker 1: fuck man. Lucky Day Bro, Lucky Lucky's fire. I say Lucky,
- 32:01Speaker 1: I would say I like siss a lot. I don't
- 32:05Speaker 1: know if y'all still consider consider her new, but I
- 32:07Speaker 1: think female artists wise her paying she's crazy. I like
- 32:10Speaker 1: Queen Naja. I got a crazy record with her. Oh fire, Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: she just put out a new record that's crazy. Shout
- 32:16Speaker 1: out to her. She's shout out. Shout out to the Queen.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Victoria Monet. Been knowing Victoria for years. She's an incredible right,
- 32:23Speaker 1: incredible artist, incredible visionary when it comes to creativity. Who
- 32:28Speaker 1: else It's a few yeah, bread Fires is not too
- 32:33Speaker 1: far from you. Blast Blast. Todd Dollars is still one
- 32:36Speaker 1: of my favorite you know, got something crazy on his project.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Coming ties of prolific artists. I feel like we don't
- 32:43Speaker 1: give tied into flowers. I'm like, bro, this tie is
- 32:45Speaker 1: a fucking he's him, he's him, dunk he really he
- 32:48Speaker 1: really wanted them guys. Man. Yeah, shout out to you
- 32:51Speaker 1: got something with on tis new album. Yeah, yeah, we
- 32:53Speaker 1: got it crazy and hopefully and make it on the project.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It's this crazy joint. Okay, it's gonna be a good
- 32:58Speaker 1: year for R and B for sure. We got stuff

- 34:25Speaker 1: definitely hung man. We definitely a different guy to kick
- 34:27Speaker 1: it with. Huh bud light, cool bud light. He's been
- 34:32Speaker 1: Did you play beer pong? Nah? No? Nah's he being
- 34:37Speaker 1: his own man. He's a man, good energy, but no
- 34:39Speaker 1: for sure he's the best man and he's still humble
- 34:41Speaker 1: as fuck too. It's crazy you wouldn't even be like, Yo,
- 34:43Speaker 1: you're the biggest streaming artists in the world. But I
- 34:45Speaker 1: think that's what it is though. Man, When you vibrate
- 34:47Speaker 1: on a certain level, it's like you're grateful for your accomplishment,
- 34:50Speaker 1: but you're likely literally living in the moment. Bro. It's
- 34:53Speaker 1: the best feeling ever. That's like, the greatest feeling ever
- 34:56Speaker 1: is being able to live in a moment and truly
- 34:58Speaker 1: enjoy what you're creating and the energy that you're cultivating
- 35:01Speaker 1: and like the people you like. That's what it's about
- 35:04Speaker 1: for me now. It's like we all enjoying this process
- 35:07Speaker 1: because I know we're gonna get to where we're trying
- 35:09Speaker 1: to go because we're focusing. We all great, but we
- 35:12Speaker 1: enjoying it. Bro, are you enjoying it? You know what
- 35:14Speaker 1: I'm saying. You say you don't watch a lot of TV.
- 35:17Speaker 1: What are you doing in your spare time? What are
- 35:19Speaker 1: your hobbies like? If you're not recording, if you're not
- 35:21Speaker 1: being an artist, what do you do? Man? I want
- 35:23Speaker 1: my dogs, uh, literal literal dogs. I got two pits. Okay,
- 35:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, uh, traveling, writing my book, uh,
- 35:34Speaker 1: creating other business opportunities. I'm working on some things in
- 35:37Speaker 1: the NFT space as well. Oh, I just saw you
- 35:39Speaker 1: posted that NFT thing. But but not like on some
- 35:42Speaker 1: like quick money grab shit, like really on some I'm
- 35:45Speaker 1: creating the projects that I'm really passionate about. And then
- 35:49Speaker 1: man business, other business adventures that I have. Like so,
- 35:53Speaker 1: I saw you just posted one of the monkey things.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Does that a trillionaire or some shit? I don't fun,
- 35:59Speaker 1: you know, there's so many different lot of I don't
- 36:01Speaker 1: know what's going on anymore. I'm totally hip to that.
- 36:03Speaker 1: It was a gift. I'm not hip to that space whatsoever.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's you know what it's. It's a
- 36:09Speaker 1: if you're if you like art. I like art, like
- 36:13Speaker 1: I collect art, so I have art in the house,
- 36:15Speaker 1: physical art. But like, if you are into art and
- 36:18Speaker 1: you're into storytelling, I think NFTs can be a fun investment,
- 36:21Speaker 1: you know, if you want to just do like quick
- 36:23Speaker 1: flips and stuff, he's definitely got to learn about it, right.
- 36:25Speaker 1: If you have a storytelling and you're into art, I
- 36:27Speaker 1: love you throw the oculus on and look at your
- 36:29Speaker 1: NFTs that way. I don't funk with the oculus I have.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I don't even have one. Oh you don't have one.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I don't have. Pretty crazy the oculus is, uh yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I could see you ever see the movie Ready Player one? Oh?
- 36:41Speaker 1: You got to see it? Crazy, it's the oculus is.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I could see people getting like sucked into that ship
- 36:46Speaker 1: just like never coming back. Wow. It's like you put
- 36:49Speaker 1: that ship on and you're just in another world like
- 36:51Speaker 1: virtual reality. Yeah, but it's like you could like you
- 36:54Speaker 1: choose what kind of house you live in, Like I mean,
- 36:56Speaker 1: I think I think it's cool in moderation, you know
- 36:58Speaker 1: what I'm saying, in moderation. And that's the key, because
- 37:01Speaker 1: I could see some some I don't know, man, imagine
- 37:04Speaker 1: like when they have called speaking bro, like all right,
- 37:07Speaker 1: that's cool. Like I think stuff like Instagram and some
- 37:10Speaker 1: of these other things are just as bad, bro, if
- 37:13Speaker 1: you do it too much, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 37:15Speaker 1: if you're like it's so easy to spend so much
- 37:18Speaker 1: time and wait so much, specially TikTok. I think TikTok
- 37:21Speaker 1: is the one app that people been sucked into just
- 37:23Speaker 1: this swiping that algorithm just feeds you shit, it's hard
- 37:26Speaker 1: to put your phone down. It's all about balance, man,
- 37:28Speaker 1: you know. I think right now we're at the end
- 37:32Speaker 1: of the era going into a new era, you know
- 37:34Speaker 1: what I'm saying on so many different fronts, you know,
- 37:36Speaker 1: from economically, socially, spiritually, energetically. You know, right now there
- 37:44Speaker 1: are things being set in place that's going to affect
- 37:46Speaker 1: the next thirty forty years facts. So I think it's
- 37:51Speaker 1: really weird because, like, as a conscious person, I'm looking
- 37:54Speaker 1: at both sides. We're both very much so unaware as
- 37:59Speaker 1: we are aware of what's happening. Yeah, it's kind of
- 38:04Speaker 1: like every day you're giving the red pill with a
- 38:06Speaker 1: blue pill, and like some days you take the blue pill,
- 38:10Speaker 1: some days you take the red pill. But at the
- 38:11Speaker 1: end of the day, it all comes back down to
- 38:13Speaker 1: survival because that's the two things that that are people
- 38:15Speaker 1: are ran by. I think we're gonna look at that
- 38:18Speaker 1: like survival and like now and be like that was
- 38:21Speaker 1: like a really crazy time where the world was changing
- 38:23Speaker 1: and like we kind of knew it, but we also
- 38:25Speaker 1: didn't really realize how much it was changing exactly. Kind
- 38:28Speaker 1: of like when the Internet first came out like ninety
- 38:30Speaker 1: six exactly. It's like kind of like where we are
- 38:33Speaker 1: right now exactly, and there's like so many different ways.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Like you're like, oh shit, the world's changing, and that
- 38:38Speaker 1: means there's ways to make money, but then there's also
- 38:40Speaker 1: ways to lose a lot of fucking money, because if
- 38:42Speaker 1: you don't know what the fuck you're doing in this
- 38:44Speaker 1: web three point zero, in this metaverse, you might fucking
- 38:46Speaker 1: end up. There's been so many scams and all kinds
- 38:49Speaker 1: of crazy on. It's a lot of stuff. Man. You
- 38:51Speaker 1: got to connect with people who are really passionate about
- 38:53Speaker 1: what they're doing and who really think about the long
- 38:56Speaker 1: term thing. But what I was trying to say is
- 38:58Speaker 1: that in general, it's just like right now is the
- 39:00Speaker 1: time to invest in yourself the most. I feel like
- 39:04Speaker 1: that means making sure that you spend time out of
- 39:09Speaker 1: your day getting to know who you are, getting to
- 39:12Speaker 1: know what your strengths are, what your weaknesses are, maybe
- 39:15Speaker 1: some gifts that you haven't discovered, you know, because you
- 39:18Speaker 1: want to make sure that you are a well rounded person.
- 39:21Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, it's unlimited. What you can
- 39:23Speaker 1: do is unlimited. So it's just a matter of making
- 39:26Speaker 1: sure you're a well rounded person, or you know yourself
- 39:28Speaker 1: and you're not driven by the outside world too much.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's very hard because it's so easy. It's also very
- 39:33Speaker 1: hard to disconnect from like the ground seats yourself. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 39:37Speaker 1: for sure. Everyone's always just working, work and work and working.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You know. I feel like it's hard to just disconnect
- 39:43Speaker 1: and decompress. Like but in order for you to actually,
- 39:46Speaker 1: I don't know, for me, in order for me to
- 39:49Speaker 1: see what I'm actually doing, sometimes I gotta take a
- 39:51Speaker 1: step back and look at everything, like, okay, three months
- 39:55Speaker 1: from now, I got to look at the contacts, the relationships,
- 39:58Speaker 1: the people who I've invited into my I'm doing step back,
- 40:01Speaker 1: How is that what? Because sometimes you could just be
- 40:03Speaker 1: moving and moving and moving, and then other things that
- 40:07Speaker 1: can be shifting your trajectory of where you started or
- 40:10Speaker 1: what your original vision. So sometimes you gotta step back
- 40:13Speaker 1: and look at the progress and give yourself time to
- 40:16Speaker 1: see the progress. Like all right, cool, Like we're still
- 40:19Speaker 1: on the track, you know what I'm saying. Like, I
- 40:21Speaker 1: don't know. I think it's just because it's so easy
- 40:23Speaker 1: to just especially living out here, It's like you know,
- 40:25Speaker 1: la is it's always the grind and always. I ain't
- 40:29Speaker 1: say it on grind. You gotta hustle. You know, if
- 40:33Speaker 1: somebody tell you don't get no money, get away from them. Yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: because we gotta survive for sure. But it's definitely like
- 40:38Speaker 1: living in La is like you're always on your toes here,
- 40:41Speaker 1: if that makes sense. It's like, you know, it's like
- 40:43Speaker 1: whatever you're doing, it's like, Okay, I'm gonna go out
- 40:45Speaker 1: to eat. Well, shit, I'm in LA so I can't
- 40:47Speaker 1: just go out to eat. I gotta put something on.
- 40:49Speaker 1: I gotta you know what I'm saying. It's like there's
- 40:50Speaker 1: so much that goes into just I mean, I think
- 40:52Speaker 1: it's less. I feel like it was crazy like that
- 40:55Speaker 1: before the pandemic, like everything had to be But now
- 40:57Speaker 1: it's like I think people have relaxed a little bit
- 40:59Speaker 1: when it comes today ego in certain ways, and also
- 41:02Speaker 1: the pandemic checked a lot of people's a lot of
- 41:05Speaker 1: people were struggling. It's like, you know, yeah, got real,
- 41:09Speaker 1: so you're yo, let me love you you say. Uh.
- 41:14Speaker 1: We just had a an artist named Kyle on the
- 41:17Speaker 1: show recently, you know, super Duper Kyle. He had a
- 41:19Speaker 1: song I Spy Yeah yeah, so he uh he was
- 41:22Speaker 1: talking about how he has a song called I Spy
- 41:25Speaker 1: which is about to be diamond, right. He's like, he's like,
- 41:28Speaker 1: that's a I think it's eight times platinum. He's like, uh,
- 41:31Speaker 1: this song has changed my life financially. It's got me
- 41:35Speaker 1: in a place where, like, you know, yeah, it's so
- 41:37Speaker 1: it's so big that I could kind of do what
- 41:41Speaker 1: I want now. That's that's a gift and a curse.
- 41:44Speaker 1: But it's also like he's also the I Spy guy.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Now you're not You're not to let me love you guy,
- 41:48Speaker 1: but let Me Love You is one of those songs
- 41:51Speaker 1: that is so massive, between the remix the original, it
- 41:55Speaker 1: is one of the most iconic R and B songs
- 41:57Speaker 1: of all fucking time. Yeah, what is the first part
- 42:00Speaker 1: of that for you? Because we know what the gift is.
- 42:02Speaker 1: I think the curst part of it is easy. It's just,
- 42:06Speaker 1: you know, having that level of success again with another
- 42:10Speaker 1: record because I was so young when it happened, and
- 42:13Speaker 1: it's like, I haven't had another record that big, even
- 42:16Speaker 1: though I've had other hits right since that record, you know,
- 42:19Speaker 1: And I think that's the curse. But I think every
- 42:21Speaker 1: artist has, well not every artist, Some artists got eighteen
- 42:26Speaker 1: twenty number ones. Right, But that's you know, if you're
- 42:28Speaker 1: so lucky to have that and to have that type
- 42:30Speaker 1: of system, Man, God bless you, that's amazing, you know.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But I think that's the curse, man, Just like trying
- 42:36Speaker 1: to trying to beat it out, you know what I'm saying,
- 42:38Speaker 1: trying to are you with another like obviously every time?
- 42:42Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's that's the fucking your biggest record.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Are you tired of performing it? After all these years?
- 42:48Speaker 1: I feel like sometime I'm gonna get tired of performing it,
- 42:50Speaker 1: And then when I perform it it feels like the
- 42:52Speaker 1: first time every time. It's but it's because of the fans, man,
- 42:55Speaker 1: It's because of the people. It's because of them. It's
- 42:58Speaker 1: like when you're on stage and you see like it's
- 43:01Speaker 1: a connection, bro, because you just records. They they they're
- 43:05Speaker 1: like they're like time in the flesh, bro. Like this
- 43:10Speaker 1: this is like, I feel like recorded sound is time
- 43:14Speaker 1: in the flesh. You literally trap some time into a
- 43:17Speaker 1: sound and you're able to relive it over and over
- 43:20Speaker 1: and over and over again. So in some cases, yes,
- 43:23Speaker 1: it could feel as if you're not moving forward. But
- 43:29Speaker 1: when you see a record transcend so many generations. And
- 43:33Speaker 1: you see, like I see tiktoks of like babies or
- 43:37Speaker 1: like toddlers singing let me love you. I'm just like
- 43:39Speaker 1: Bro today. Yeah, of course, such a blessing man. It's
- 43:46Speaker 1: obviously the first record I'd ever heard of. Yours was
- 43:49Speaker 1: Just a Friend, which sampled Bismarcky BISMARKI recently passed away
- 43:54Speaker 1: Rest in Peace man. Yeah, as a young kid, like,
- 43:56Speaker 1: what was it like, you know, connecting with Biz sampling
- 43:59Speaker 1: his I mean, did you know much about Biz before
- 44:02Speaker 1: he ended up cutting that record? Like, what was what
- 44:05Speaker 1: was he like as a dude? Shout out to Warren Campbell,
- 44:08Speaker 1: my brother, hell lily man Biz. He really I feel
- 44:15Speaker 1: like anybody who meet him or feel like he liked
- 44:17Speaker 1: they uncle, Like he was very much so expressive, very thoughtful.
- 44:23Speaker 1: He didn't hold his tongue, you know what I'm saying.
- 44:25Speaker 1: If he saw something, he had always hit me to
- 44:28Speaker 1: check up on me, like even if we talk for years.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I see him out at an event, it was always love.
- 44:35Speaker 1: When I was on tour last so at the Millennial
- 44:37Speaker 1: Toy he came out at my bottom one show, Oh
- 44:39Speaker 1: do he surprised me and pulled up like, man, just
- 44:44Speaker 1: a good dude, good dude indeed, Yeah, good dude. All right,
- 44:47Speaker 1: So we got more music coming this year, definitely more
- 44:50Speaker 1: music film stuff as well, you know a lot of
- 44:55Speaker 1: great Yeah. Well, I don't know if I'm gonna put
- 44:56Speaker 1: that out this year. Man, I'm really taking my time
- 44:58Speaker 1: with it, but it's definitely coming for sure. But tour,
- 45:01Speaker 1: just more more sauce. Man, what's the tour? Talk about
- 45:05Speaker 1: the tour? What what are you doing with the tour? Well,
- 45:07Speaker 1: we're planning it, you know, we're planning it for like
- 45:08Speaker 1: probably later this year. It's it gonna be you and
- 45:10Speaker 1: like some other people hopefully. Yeah, that's the plan to
- 45:13Speaker 1: put a nice package together, like you know, that makes sense.
- 45:17Speaker 1: So I just put it out there, like you know
- 45:19Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So it's like tour, more music and
- 45:23Speaker 1: just more me man, more more Mario for the fans,
- 45:26Speaker 1: for the people, like just you know, putting a stamp
- 45:29Speaker 1: on R and B where it need to be and
- 45:31Speaker 1: continue to do carry my carry my legacy on
