- 0:13in my first year and we brought it all back to trust.

- 0:59Craig It's great to be here.
- 1:01Happy New Year, everyone.
- 1:02If you're just tuning in for the first time, we have an exciting
- 1:05lineup, an amazing individual on today.
- 1:09So we will get to him shortly.
- 1:10But it's great to be here with you all.
- 1:13Also, I wanted to mention that it is great to hear from all of you.
- 1:16We love hearing from our listeners.
- 1:19It is incredible. Don't hesitate to reach out to us.
- 1:21You can leave a comment if you are watching this on YouTube.
- 1:25hello@spiro.media.
- 1:27If you like email or if you are a Spiro user, join us over in the Spiro
- 1:32Superuser group on the Facebook
- 1:35- the facebook - and we will. the Facebook.
- 1:38is that like the Google.
- 1:41Yes, it is like the Ohio State University.
- 1:44I like what you’re doing there
- 1:46Yeah, I kinda say the face, the Facebook.
- 1:49It's kind of like a an older like I.
- 1:53I don't know what I'm doing, but go ahead, Craig.
- 1:54Well, you said the Ohio State University.
- 1:56Now, for those of you that may not know, Todd and I were Wow video tours
- 2:00and Spiro is in Ohio, we're both unabashedly Buckeye fans.
- 2:04Of course, the national championship happening on Monday.
- 2:07We record this on Friday. So.
- 2:10Todd, you saying the Ohio State University?
- 2:13I hope that we actually pull off the win and can still proudly
- 2:17say the Ohio State University
- 2:20This is probably being published Tuesday morning.
- 2:22So we'll we'll see what happens.
- 2:24Yes, either all of Ohio is burning or we're celebrating.
- 2:28So it's one or the other.
- 2:30That's the way we do football in Ohio.
- 2:32It's like you could win every game but one.
- 2:34And you had a losing year.
- 2:36That's true.
- 2:37There's really only one game that really matters.
- 2:40And we lost it last year.
- 2:41Anyway, we're getting off track very quickly, so.
- 2:46Spiro, let’s dive into Spiro updates, Todd
- 2:49Spiro Update Thank you, Craig.
- 2:50Save the sinking ship. Here we go.
- 2:53We just pushed them. There was ten of them for you.
- 2:55I'm going to read them real quick.
- 2:57One of the biggest one is we hear from you and your
- 3:00you guys say, hey, this is like we sell this as our system
- 3:04and we want our brand to shine a little bit more.
- 3:06And I actually love that you sell it as your system
- 3:10because I've sold it as my system to our clients.
- 3:13A Wow for 21 years.
- 3:15And the ownership, I am just I love that idea.
- 3:20So what we've done is we've put your brand a little more forward
- 3:24and that we have taken the primary color that you have set.
- 3:28And now it is in more places throughout the system.
- 3:32So like the little pink loading
- 3:35icon that load when the page loads, it's now your primary colors, not pink anymore.
- 3:40And we've removed that pink and we've replaced your primary
- 3:43color and various portions throughout the system.
- 3:46Another one of those portions is the tracking website for your clients.
- 3:51This is where subscribers
- 3:52go to get text message or to get updates on the appointment.
- 3:55They also get text message update.
- 3:57But this is like the Domino's Pizza Tracker.
- 3:59It's now your brand colors.
- 4:02So the third thing is property website.
- 4:05If you scroll all the way to the bottom of a branded property website
- 4:08we use to say powered by Spyro
- 4:11and you could click Spiro and go to the Spiro website.
- 4:14And some of you are like, Hey, can you just remove that?
- 4:16And we removed it.
- 4:17So we're not partial to our brand.
- 4:20We appreciate you guys all pushing our brand out there, but we understand that
- 4:24that property website's for you guys and we were happy to remove that.
- 4:28So finally you can rename some of the pages that your agents use.
- 4:34So like the download page,
- 4:35you could put your company name in there and a couple of other pages,
- 4:39so be sure to check out settings, my company and branding for those updates.
- 4:44A few other notable ones.
- 4:45I won't cover all of them, but unit numbers are now everywhere.
- 4:49If your address has a unit number, we've put it everywhere that the address shows.
- 4:54So that was a big one that you guys asked for
- 4:55and just a quality of life update And we have heard you on that one
- 5:00invoice reminders, options.
- 5:01Also, we've heard from you on this one and we're happy to put this update out.
- 5:06You can now set your own invoice reminder schedule.
- 5:09How many times does a client get an invoice before it's due
- 5:14and after it is due?
- 5:16So you can set that in your invoicing section.
- 5:19You can now turn off a display page or and or a download page.
- 5:24Some you said, Hey,
- 5:25I do headshots and I load them in the spiro
- 5:28and it doesn't really make sense to give them a property website of the headshots.
- 5:31Can I turn the property website off?
- 5:34Yes, you can.
- 5:35Now some of your clients might want a full property
- 5:37website of their head on the page.
- 5:38I don't know. I've worked with agents for a long time.
- 5:41Many of them don't.
- 5:42Anyways, the power is in your hands.
- 5:44Some other.
- 5:45We did over 25 refinements in the mobile optimization the UI and the UX.
- 5:51Now when you sort
- 5:52and when you edit a bundle, the order of your services will stick.
- 5:56They used to go back to alphabetical. You're like, Whoa, wait a minute.
- 5:59I had them in an order that I liked.
- 6:01They now stick.
- 6:02We did things with taxes, click viewing, quick viewing of client invoices.
- 6:07We enhanced a few reports and we also automatically have added
- 6:12the first 15 images in the image slider on the property website.
- 6:16So it feels more like a video that's scrolling to your clients.
- 6:20Craig Way more than a minute, but I'll pay the bill.
- 6:22That's okay.
- 6:23That's a lot of updates and I love,
- 6:26you know, the advantage that we have is
- 6:29being Spiro is we're Wow video tours that built Spiro, Right?
- 6:34So we get we get what you're talking about with the suggestions that you're making,
- 6:38making the page your branding colors instead of Spiro’s Branding colors.
- 6:44There is a
- 6:44feature where you can upvote things that you're looking for
- 6:48in the in the software or what's called feature base.
- 6:51I believe that it's called.
- 6:53So for those that aren’t familiar with that.
- 6:55Can you explain that real quick?
- 6:56And then we'll get to our topic this week.
- 6:59Yeah, so it's a page and this is based on your feedback that you all said, Hey,
- 7:03where can I see where can I suggest something and see what you're working on?
- 7:07And so if you go to spiromedia.featurebase.app
- 7:12we'll put it in the show notes.
- 7:14Also, if you're in Spiro, the upper right hand corner, there's a feedback icon.
- 7:18Just click on that. It will take you directly.
- 7:20But on this board, you can see what others have suggested
- 7:25and you can see the number of times that it has been upvoted
- 7:29and you cannot vote for it if you like that suggestion.
- 7:33Also, there's a tab where you can see what we are working on
- 7:36and what has been completed.
- 7:37So just a nice way to go engage with the community there.
- 7:41And we naturally work
- 7:44on the features that the most of you want out there.
- 7:48It's an awesome feature.
- 7:50We try to be responsive.
- 7:52-We do. - All right.
- 7:54Well, so this year we've we started actually the end of last year.
- 7:59We started to invite some more guests on because we we want to hear
- 8:03from the real estate media community, the successes that they're having,
- 8:07the things that they're learning
- 8:08and implementing in their businesses, things that are helping them grow.
- 8:12So we're trying to incorporate more guests on the Spiro podcast to highlight
- 8:18other areas of our industry, other other owners that are doing
- 8:21some pretty fantastic things in their businesses.
- 8:23And this week is no exception.
- 8:25We do have a guest this week that Todd, I'm going to let you introduce
- 8:29our guests this week and kind of get this episode set up here.
- 8:33Yes, it'd be my pleasure.
- 8:34So this individual is just a firecracker of energy.
- 8:39And also the thing that I want you all to take away today
- 8:42is how he uses that energy to build relationships.
- 8:47This might be a word that Craig and I use the most on here.
- 8:50And if you ask a question,
- 8:54typically if I respond, you say on Facebook
- 8:57and it's about building business, like growing your business.
- 9:01My answer generally always has.
- 9:04You have to build more relationships, build better relationships.
- 9:08This individual might be the king of building relationships.
- 9:12Just the warmth and the sincerity
- 9:15and he's built with his clients is amazing.
- 9:18So that is the biggest thing today that if you are out there at the beginning
- 9:22of 2025 saying, Hey, I have these new big goals
- 9:26that I want to hit, how am I going to get more agents to understand that
- 9:31I want to work and can work for them and I can help their business stand out?
- 9:36It is truly relationship building 100%.
- 9:41And so I'm excited today.
- 9:43Without further ado.
- 9:44Tyler Graham of Weston Media is on the show today.
- 9:49Welcome, Tyler. How are you?
- 9:51I am doing fantastic.
- 9:53Thank you guys for having me.
- 9:55pleasure to have you on here today.
- 9:57Tyler, if you wouldn't mind just starting off, if you could just give
- 10:00everyone who doesn't know you on the show just a little background
- 10:04about how you came into real estate media, where you're at with your business,
- 10:09just to bring us up to speed with your history in real estate media.
- 10:14Yeah, I'll try to be really quick on this,
- 10:17but honestly, I feel like it takes the whole story.
- 10:20So I got into photography in like 2020.
- 10:24During COVID, I took my stimulus check $800 and bought a Nikon D800
- 10:29on Facebook, and I grew up in the horse industry.
- 10:32Hunter jumpers where they jump the sticks. Yes.
- 10:35And I did that through college to make money on the side on the weekends.
- 10:39And that kind of built up.
- 10:41And I bought some new gear, had some gear stolen and all kinds of other stuff.
- 10:46So finally, I like I mentioned, I grew up in the horse industry.
- 10:50I was finishing up my bachelor's, starting to get my masters,
- 10:55and I was working at a farm riding about 8 to 10 horses
- 10:59a day, shoveling horse crap, all that other good stuff.
- 11:03But once I was about midway through my masters, I was like, okay,
- 11:07I'm about to have my masters. I cannot be doing this.
- 11:09So I was like, okay, you have all this camera equipment, what can you do?
- 11:14And I started seeing stuff on Instagram
- 11:17about photographers, how they can make money with real estate.
- 11:21And so 11:00 at night, one night
- 11:23I clicked on this ad bought this course,
- 11:27learned real estate photography and March of 2023.
- 11:32I did that.
- 11:33January, March of 2023 was my first paid shoot.
- 11:382023 I did about
- 11:41$75,000 in revenue.
- 11:44- Wow. - Good for you.
- 11:46Yeah. And I mean,
- 11:47first year
- 11:48that was without, like, that was based on what I learned.
- 11:53I mean, the course was basically set up like YouTube
- 11:56and then so I did all that
- 11:58and that was based on referrals and just kind of building my business.
- 12:02And then January of 2024
- 12:06and at the time I was using Aryeo or whatever,
- 12:09and then I got a business coach and we kind of talked about goals
- 12:13and everything, and I was like, okay, I want to hit.
- 12:18I think I said like $14,000 a month.
- 12:20I wanted to double my revenue because my highest revenue was November
- 12:2323 with 7000.
- 12:25And they were like, okay, let's do it.
- 12:27I did that the next month.
- 12:30So February.
- 12:31Yeah, it was it was really great.
- 12:33And I switched over to Spiro,
- 12:36right in February.
- 12:37So we're coming up on in a month, I'll be at my one year anniversary with Spiro.
- 12:41But in 2024, I did
- 12:44a quarter of $1,000,000 in revenue.
- 12:48So that was so crazy
- 12:51to like and May considering.
- 12:55May was, whenever I was in the hiring process
- 12:57and I did 30,000 of revenue just on my own without other photographers.
- 13:01as a solo shooter.
- 13:03You did 30,000 in a month.
- 13:05Yeah.
- 13:06And I remember like looking at my Spiro reports and stuff and I was like,
- 13:10This is crazy.
- 13:14Did you sleep at all during that time?
- 13:17I mean,
- 13:18I slept on coffee,
- 13:21right?
- 13:22I literally started I mean, I was in such
- 13:26a routine of wake up,
- 13:30drink coffee, and then I would pack my energy, drink,
- 13:33and then I would pack my little kind bars in the car with me.
- 13:37And I was doing sunrise shoots all day shoots,
- 13:41ending with Sunset shoots.
- 13:45And then obviously on the weekends I was going out with friends and stuff.
- 13:50So I just turned 25 last week.
- 13:52So it's been a great year, two years in the business, I should say.
- 13:57Here we are now I've got two photographers,
- 14:00two VA is working on a third VA, and really my VA should be where I am
- 14:04because they do my Spiro more than I do. So,
- 14:08Todd, do you remember the days of at 25 and having that kind of energy?
- 14:12I do, yeah.
- 14:14There there are more distance and distant past,
- 14:17it’s starting to fade a little bit for me.
- 14:20- Yeah - Tyler, that's fantastic, man.
- 14:22That is.
- 14:23And I think one thing, one thing that
- 14:27I want you all to be aware of.
- 14:29And at the end of the day, Tyler makes this seem very easy.
- 14:33And the thing that I want you to pick up on here is the amount
- 14:37of relationship building and hard work that he's willing to put in
- 14:41just pull up your boots and work hard, like you said, like when it was horses
- 14:45and it was the way that he was making money. Like what?
- 14:48I'm going to shovel
- 14:49horse crap to get, you know, whatever I can do to build the business.
- 14:52And then he went all in on real estate photography and from 75k
- 14:56in the first year, which is incredible.
- 14:58And then to go to a quarter of a million in the second year is just insane.
- 15:03So one thing.
- 15:05Yeah, go ahead, Craig
- 15:06One thing that popped out to me that you said, Tyler immediately.
- 15:09Todd, did you notice one year in he hired a business coach
- 15:13after just one year of doing it. and the investment.
- 15:16Okay.
- 15:17So the, the expenditure outlay for that can be
- 15:20steep sometimes, but look at the ROI on that.
- 15:23That he got.
- 15:24Dude. Tyler that's awesome.
- 15:27Smart, smart business move.
- 15:29it was no question.
- 15:30So the business coach was a six month thing, and as soon as that
- 15:34six months ended, they were like, okay, do you want to start up again?
- 15:37I was like, Take my money.
- 15:39So I mean, I spent in the first year I got like a little bit of a discount
- 15:44for the second time around, but I spent 25,000
- 15:47coaching my first year, so
- 15:51definitely worth it.
- 15:52And Tyler, you also mentioned about your masters.
- 15:55So why is education so important to you?
- 15:58So for me, it was kind of like just growing up,
- 16:02and I know a lot of people go through different scenarios,
- 16:06but I mean, we were like dirt poor.
- 16:08Like my dad literally sold
- 16:10like farm animals to pay rent to our landlord and stuff growing up.
- 16:14And it was me, my dad and my older brother Colton.
- 16:19And then we met our step mom
- 16:21right around the age of like 11 and both of their incomes.
- 16:24We ended up renting another house while our house was being built.
- 16:29We built our farm by hand, basically,
- 16:32and did little by little, and it just
- 16:36I was grateful for everything I had at the time.
- 16:38I didn't realize what I didn't have, but
- 16:41nobody in my family other than my step mom, had an education
- 16:45and so I wanted to continue my education and I didn't know what I wanted to do.
- 16:50I thought that I wanted to be in a 9
- 16:53to 5 Monday through Friday full benefit type job.
- 16:56Like, that's what I thought I was going to be doing.
- 17:00And this was supposed to be a little side
- 17:03gig while I was doing the horse shows, finishing up my masters.
- 17:07Because when I started in January of 2023, I didn't finish my Masters until
- 17:13July.
- 17:13So I still, while I was making $30,000 a month, I was doing my finals.
- 17:19- Oh, my goodness. - For my masters.
- 17:21So it's it's been like seriously such a crazy thing.
- 17:26But like you mentioned the energy and knowing that the finish line
- 17:30was right there till I set my next goal, meeting the goals is what it's all about.
- 17:35And then setting those higher goals for me.
- 17:38Plus energy drinks on top of coffee doesn't hurt with the Energy Department.
- 17:42Yes,
- 17:43you off, you offset what's in the energy drinks with the kind bar, right?
- 17:47That kind of is the counteract.
- 17:50Yeah.
- 17:50I mean, I was like, I put on this jacket this morning
- 17:53and I felt something in my pocket from Christmas and I was like,
- 17:55I got a Dunkin card and a Starbucks card that's like still in my pocket.
- 18:03That's great, but hard work.
- 18:06And I just want to make this point.
- 18:07Tyler, where are you coming from us?
- 18:10Where are you coming to us right now on this podcast?
- 18:13So I am based out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
- 18:16And the funny story is, is right before I started the real estate
- 18:20in January, October, I had reached out to a local real estate company
- 18:25because I followed them and I love their work.
- 18:27And I was like, Oh my gosh, I can see myself doing this.
- 18:30They put out a job posting and we communicated and it was great
- 18:35and I thought I was actually going to join their team.
- 18:37And then they ultimately felt like my horse show photography
- 18:41was going to intervene with some of their scheduling and stuff.
- 18:44So they I think they said that it wasn't going to be a good fit.
- 18:47And I was like, okay, So I went start mine and then
- 18:52three
- 18:52months into starting my business, I got a DM saying,
- 18:55Hey, we would love for you to dissolve your business and join us.
- 18:58I'm like, No, thank you.
- 19:01I mean, that's that's where you're like, my hard work paid off, right?
- 19:05Yeah.
- 19:05I mean, if I were to join their team, I mean, I would have felt
- 19:09a disservice to them to, like, cut off and do my own thing.
- 19:13So I'm glad that I never did that.
- 19:16You know, Todd, if you remember, we did an episode long time ago
- 19:20on the question of brokerage exclusivity.
- 19:24When a brokerage wants you exclusively to themselves and do you do that?
- 19:28Do you not do that?
- 19:30And I think we concluded
- 19:32you really don't want to do that.
- 19:34So yeah, but so Tyler, let's let's dive
- 19:37into even a little bit deeper on where you're coming from this morning,
- 19:41specifically exact location where you're recording this podcast from,
- 19:47because I think this is a first in the history of the Spiro podcast.
- 19:51I am recording from a vacant listing
- 19:56I'm not even I may or may not be sitting on a table, but
- 20:01so what led to this
- 20:05January
- 20:07I last January was super slow.
- 20:10It was time. I mean, it was I just hired the business coach.
- 20:12I was doing $7,000 a month and I thought that I was going to have
- 20:16this month to really get more systems in place to set up for May of 2025.
- 20:22But it turns out we are fully booked
- 20:25and we had been fully booked for the past three weeks
- 20:28and we are for the very first time
- 20:31in like ten years, supposed to be getting snow next week.
- 20:33So everyone's like freaking out.
- 20:35So the thing that, the thing I just love about you Tyler
- 20:39again, back to hard work, it's at our company, it's core value.
- 20:42Number two is hard work.
- 20:44And I always say if it was easy, anyone would do it.
- 20:48And the thing I want you or your listeners out there to be careful.
- 20:52Tyler disguises it very well because he doesn't want anyone to feel
- 20:57that hard work he's going through and he's got this great personality.
- 21:01But think about this.
- 21:02He was a super we record early in the morning.
- 21:05He was up super early to keep a client happy.
- 21:08He's at the listing, so he can get it done.
- 21:10He's fitting in this podcast.
- 21:11So it's just that idea of of trying to always take care of your clients.
- 21:16And I think ultimately that's why you've scaled so quickly.
- 21:19Tyler There's there's a story he was telling us off
- 21:23air before this and I think I think this is like a goal.
- 21:28I would love to make it a goal of mine.
- 21:30So Tyler just had a birthday a couple of weeks ago and on
- 21:36in his invite list, he had just as many realtors as he did
- 21:40friends that are not realtors.
- 21:42And he would call those realtors friends.
- 21:44I think all of his realtors are friends of his.
- 21:47And the thing about it is, is how do you build relationships so well,
- 21:50like Tyler, that you have other realtors that you work for
- 21:55that want to be on the invite list to your birthday party?
- 21:59I think that just speaks a testament.
- 22:00And he's telling us that as he was shooting other houses,
- 22:03they were like, Hey, how you know, the birthday?
- 22:05I didn't get on the invite list.
- 22:06Like, think about that, y'all.
- 22:09Your clients want to come to your birthday party.
- 22:14- That blows my mind, Craig, - That I know.
- 22:16I'm starting to think, should I do that?
- 22:18Like, my 50th is coming up in a year almost, you know, just over a year.
- 22:23Yeah
- 22:24You do it so naturally.
- 22:25But for those of those listeners out there
- 22:29that are a little bit terrified or introverted and
- 22:34can't even fathom how they would even
- 22:38build those relationships,
- 22:41what is your what's your secret sauce?
- 22:43What's your strategy?
- 22:44Where would where should somebody start today
- 22:47to begin building better relationships?
- 22:52Yeah, and I think this takes it back to when I got that business coach.
- 22:56They were trying to learn about me and how I got to 75,000
- 23:01in my first year and we brought it all back to trust.
- 23:05Like they trusted me with their listings and basically what they're going
- 23:10to end up paying for their media.
- 23:13And that's because I wasn't going to be doing more than a listing needed,
- 23:17nor was I going to be scared to say, Hey, let's upgrade you and
- 23:23loyalty.
- 23:25I everyone's always like, Oh, I'm loyal.
- 23:27I'm well, I don't care if you're loyal.
- 23:29Like, if you want to go use another photographer, that's fine.
- 23:33The agent that was here today, she's a broker and she was mentioned to
- 23:36me, she's like, Do you want to come do a brokerage presentation?
- 23:40And I said, I would love to.
- 23:41She's like, Yeah, I think a lot of our agents will switch to you.
- 23:44They're they're really loyal.
- 23:45And I said, Well, listen, I work with plenty of agents
- 23:49who only use me for certain listings for certain things.
- 23:54I'm not going to force someone or try
- 23:57to make them feel uncomfortable trying to switch them from another photographer.
- 24:01And I've had agents that have switched
- 24:03to other photographers that I'm still friends with.
- 24:05I am a part of my local women's council.
- 24:08I'm a part of my local Young Professionals network.
- 24:11I am a platinum sponsor for my CCAR
- 24:16or local organization, which is a $10,000 sponsorship.
- 24:20I am a part of my B and I group.
- 24:25I am a part of so many organizations, caffeinated closers.
- 24:28They have a coffee group for real estate that I am a part of that
- 24:32and so many of them work with so many different people,
- 24:35but they still all know me and like yesterday
- 24:37I did headshots and lifestyle shoots because they knew
- 24:41that I was going to help them feel comfortable in front of the camera.
- 24:44And then they went and did their listing photos
- 24:46that afternoon with their other photographer.
- 24:48And I don't feel some type of way now greater when I see photos
- 24:52that aren't mine that I'm like, Oh shoot, that sucks.
- 24:56But I am like, okay, let me just go get five more clients.
- 25:00Like this month. It's January 17th.
- 25:02And I checked my Spiro this morning and I messaged my photographers
- 25:05and I was like, Can you believe that?
- 25:07We've already have 15 new clients this month.
- 25:10Like, it's so wild.
- 25:13And we're just looking at numbers and everything else
- 25:15and so, yeah, just, just building that trust and
- 25:19having a simple conversation, letting them know that, listen,
- 25:23if it doesn't work out, we don't have to, you know, be awkward.
- 25:27But, like, if you need a video, I'm going to do a video.
- 25:30And if you can't afford a video,
- 25:32I'm going to do it for you anyways and give it to you for free.
- 25:35Craig, this the thing
- 25:36I can just think about to tie this in to what Tyler does is
- 25:41he truly serves his clients
- 25:44with no expectations in mind.
- 25:47Right
- 25:48And that does build a basis of trust.
- 25:52Can I share a quick story that kind of ties into how Tyler is doing things?
- 25:56So yesterday I went out and did a shoot for a client
- 26:00that I've shot for for a while and have a really good relationship with.
- 26:04While She tried their in-house marketing department's photographer
- 26:08for a new construction built and she ended up
- 26:11having me come out and reshoot it because she wasn't happy with the results
- 26:15and was telling me what her concerns were.
- 26:18One of them was, you know, color cast, things like that.
- 26:20But I said, Well, without seeing it myself, you know, I can't really judge
- 26:23that.
- 26:24But, you know, we'll do our best for you.
- 26:26So I got to the to the shoot and some of the color concerns that she had.
- 26:32I actually agreed with our competition with the way they added to them.
- 26:37So after I was done with a shoot,
- 26:38I called her and said, Hey, Nancy, there's three things
- 26:40I want to go over with you that you had mentioned to me.
- 26:42And I went through item by item where I thought
- 26:46our competition was actually correct and how they initially edited things
- 26:50and said, this is what I saw with my eyes.
- 26:52There are brown undertones to this gray stain.
- 26:55So actually they were kind of correct and how they edited that.
- 26:59And she said, I appreciate that.
- 27:01You know, if I owe them, you know, credit where credit's due, then I'll do that.
- 27:05And that's what I respect about you with being a professional,
- 27:09having a professional eyes and being honest honest with me.
- 27:13So I don't want to lose the the business.
- 27:17But if we establish ourselves as professionals, that act with integrity
- 27:22and honesty in how we do our business and interact with our clients,
- 27:26the dividends of that long term, as is
- 27:30Tyler, is is sharing with us will pay off.
- 27:33You might have clients that do wander from time to time,
- 27:37but because they know they can trust you, they're going to come back at some point.
- 27:42You took the time to be honest with them
- 27:44and to build relationship with them and people respect that.
- 27:49- So, Tyler, kudos to you. - thank you.
- 27:52Yeah, Yeah.
- 27:53It's just offering that
- 27:54first free shoot like, I mean, I still do that to this day.
- 27:59I mean, I don't need to offer the free shoot, but I do.
- 28:03And that's also helped build trust
- 28:07because they see they're like, Can you send me something to work?
- 28:10And I'm like, Just go to this link. It's my Instagram.
- 28:13And they're like, You're offering free shoots.
- 28:14I'm like, Yeah.
- 28:16I'm like, It's an opportunity for you to test out the services and
- 28:20we'll go from there.
- 28:21Yeah, that and nobody loves a pressure.
- 28:24I mean, what consumer loves to buy under pressure?
- 28:26Nobody. It's so smart.
- 28:28It's, it's such contrary
- 28:32to the way everyone else operates and it's so smart to do it that way. Yes.
- 28:36You might take a little bit of a hit upfront,
- 28:38but remember we all started our business not to run it for six months.
- 28:41We started to do it for the rest of our life or potentially exit from it
- 28:45or grow a team or not or not have anything to do with it.
- 28:48So if you think short term
- 28:51you will never like that, that will never
- 28:55equate in your brain.
- 28:57But thinking long term is where that begins to make
- 29:00a world of sense.
- 29:02There's two things, Todd, if you don't mind
- 29:04that I'd like to kind of key on with with Tyler. one,
- 29:08how he handled all the hiring that he had to do, the growing pains.
- 29:12Tyler That's something I want to kind of get your input on.
- 29:15But but, Todd, do you mind kind of introducing how
- 29:17you even met Tyler and why we have him on the podcast right now?
- 29:21Because we didn't, we didn't give much of an introduction there.
- 29:24Yeah.
- 29:24So Tyler is
- 29:28Tyler is a Spiro user and Tyler is also active
- 29:32in and engaging of big surprise, right?
- 29:35in Eli Jones's group, the REPP group.
- 29:38So we met through there and then we met in person this year in Vegas.
- 29:44So Tyler was a speaker on stage at the conference
- 29:49and he spoke about growing his business.
- 29:52And as I sat there, like the things that he was doing
- 29:55and he share with you today and there's many more is amazing.
- 29:59And actually Tyler and I, we crossed paths in between a break or going to
- 30:03and from a room and just he is who he is everywhere
- 30:08so this is not like an on stage or on podcasts
- 30:11like the beautiful thing about Tyler is he is who he is and he's so genuine
- 30:15and he makes you feel so warm and
- 30:19and in there engaging with Tyler,
- 30:22there is so much to learn and I think we hear all the time.
- 30:25So that's why I thought it was so important
- 30:27to have him on the podcast is because if you can begin to learn on
- 30:31some of these things and even script it and you don't have to be Tyler,
- 30:34but if you can start to put
- 30:35some of these things into your own words and feel comfortable with things
- 30:39like what he's doing, it works, every one listen.
- 30:42And his first year, less than a full year, he did 75 K and then scaled
- 30:47to four times that to 250,000.
- 30:50So this is where it's like simple but not easy.
- 30:53You might be like, yeah, it's it's easy for Tyler.
- 30:56It's really not.
- 30:57He disguises it and I just I want to say that too, because I,
- 31:01I want you to be careful to think like Tyler doesn't
- 31:04want you to feel like he's doing a lot of work, but he actually is.
- 31:08And I say that because I've talked to some of you
- 31:11and after the conference and some of you are like, Man, Tyler,
- 31:15it feels like he's not even doing anything.
- 31:16But and I can't get my business off the ground.
- 31:19It's like, no, Tyler is doing a ton.
- 31:22He just makes it seem easy
- 31:25and all the little hard work that he puts in is super important.
- 31:30So that's why I thought it was so important to have him on today.
- 31:32Absolutely.
- 31:33So that's a great setup then.
- 31:35Tyler, to what I'm I'm really curious about because of how fast you grew.
- 31:40I mean, there's, you know, physically growing.
- 31:42There's there's growing pains.
- 31:45So what what were those initial really strong pains you felt?
- 31:50Can you describe maybe two or three of those
- 31:52and then how how you address those for somebody that maybe is experiencing
- 31:55similar growth, how did you navigate those growing pains
- 31:58and specifically, what did you do to handle those?
- 32:02I can easily say the top three growing pains that I experience was
- 32:07one growing too fast in. two,
- 32:11going fast with the systems that I had in place.
- 32:14As far as me waking up at 4 a.m.
- 32:18in the morning just to deliver.
- 32:20I remember doing that last year and when I got my business coach
- 32:24and they were talking about my schedule
- 32:25and I'm like, okay, well I'm waking up at four and usually
- 32:29on my way to my first shoot by 7:00, 7:30,
- 32:33and they're like, okay, so we need to get you a VA
- 32:37And I was like, I knew I heard about the VA’s,
- 32:40but I didn't know what it really was.
- 32:42So then I got a VA and I spent like two weeks
- 32:47teaching them Aryeo and they started doing stuff on that.
- 32:53And then the coach was talking about certain things that we could implement
- 32:58into the business to make things easier, online booking and other stuff like that.
- 33:03So then on time I'd be like, okay, are you ready to switch?
- 33:06So then we got another system in place.
- 33:10Spiro and kind of navigating the transition
- 33:13from the clients through there into Spiro.
- 33:16And that's actually whenever I had my initial contact with Todd, same
- 33:20as like I'm sure a lot of people we were emailing and chatting about like,
- 33:24you, here's my new contact this,
- 33:26Oh, I'm not switched over to Spiro yet, but I got like ten new clients.
- 33:29And Aryeo, can you please take these clients?
- 33:31I don't want to duplicate them.
- 33:32I remember that one really well.
- 33:35And so finally we've got that in line.
- 33:38And then building out Spiro,
- 33:40any anything switching systems is never going to be a walk in the park.
- 33:44And I think everyone needs to understand that because everyone always like,
- 33:48Oh, I need to switch. Like, I need to.
- 33:50It's just I don't want to change.
- 33:51You got to change.
- 33:52You got to make the change is just one of those things
- 33:54that you have to do in a business.
- 33:55I mean, a local photographer who is my competitor, but
- 33:59also one of my best friends and I met him through obviously real estate.
- 34:04He had he uses Spiro, but he doesn't utilize it to its full capabilities.
- 34:08And he's like, oh, I need to get my order up and running.
- 34:11I need to build these order pages.
- 34:12And he's like, I do you know, if your VA would,
- 34:15like, build out my stuff or do you know if I can hire someone to build it out?
- 34:18I said, John, stop it.
- 34:20You need to go home
- 34:21and you need to build this out yourself
- 34:22because how are you going to be able
- 34:24to manage your company if you don't even know what it does?
- 34:27And he was like, No, you're right, you're right.
- 34:29And then his wife, like, told him the same thing.
- 34:33And then we came in to May whenever I knew that I needed to hire.
- 34:38And my coach was telling me in March to look like, let's hire, like let's hire.
- 34:41And I was like, Oh, I'm busy.
- 34:43I'm busy.
- 34:44And well, then I like, fired and hired
- 34:49like three people, actually.
- 34:52Oh, three and a half.
- 34:53All at once.
- 34:54And in this time I was giving John shoots
- 34:58because I couldn't do all of my and, and I've done some for him,
- 35:03but I mean he just was able to take on some of mine thankfully
- 35:07and see like that was another part of relationship and trust
- 35:10even like outside of realtors, just the community in general.
- 35:16But then finally, like hiring,
- 35:19thankfully one out of the other ones was like, perfect.
- 35:23She's still with me today and she's like, My ride or die in the business.
- 35:27And the other two, they worked and they were good, but
- 35:31it didn't work out, which is fine,
- 35:33I should’t try to hire three people all at once.
- 35:35That was crazy.
- 35:37And then fast forward a little bit, I got another photographer
- 35:41and they do some part time stuff and now I actually just put out another
- 35:46indie posting last week that they've been asking me,
- 35:49my coach has been asking me to put out for ever
- 35:52for two more positions, but definitely going to hire one.
- 35:55And then once
- 35:56that one gets trained up with Kamila,
- 35:58then I can work on getting the other one in place.
- 36:01But it's just really playing catch up.
- 36:03I mean, there really is no such thing as growing too fast and you don't want to.
- 36:07You've got to make sure that you can compensate for that volume
- 36:10so that you don't justify quality and the trust with the others.
- 36:14Because we've been also doing a lot of reshoots
- 36:18and a lot of mistakes do happen whenever we get super crazy like this
- 36:23and it's
- 36:23people get sick this time of year and we make mistakes and trying to correct
- 36:28those mistakes while also getting 15 new clients is it's a lot.
- 36:33Yeah, a lot to manage.
- 36:37Do you?
- 36:38Okay so I love the idea of I just see relationships in everything you do.
- 36:43It's I know I keep saying it, y'all, but it's so impactful.
- 36:47The relationships he built with other photographers in town,
- 36:50like many of us, again, we think, Oh, that's our competition.
- 36:52And like, you know, we were like, Give him a mean face If we pass him
- 36:55by in the grocery store, you know, like it's like, you know, like
- 36:59we don't want them to know anything about us.
- 37:01And Tyler is like, Hey, he's my buddy. Like, I'm helping him.
- 37:03I'm helping him out.
- 37:04And like, by the way, like,
- 37:05Hey, I'm going to send you shoots like, help me help you kind of thing.
- 37:11And I'm
- 37:11I assume that transitions into let's go a little bit deeper in that hiring process.
- 37:16And how important are relationships you build with
- 37:19then your photographers and your staff?
- 37:21So I have a really hard time with boundaries.
- 37:26Like she's like everyone's a frenemy.
- 37:28I mean, until you give me a reason not to be your friend.
- 37:32So I feel like in my next step of hiring you,
- 37:36do I want to create those boundaries or not?
- 37:39But Camilla also never has overstepped any boundaries
- 37:43to where I feel like it's an invasion of privacy.
- 37:48But just as people have
- 37:50trust in me, I have trust in her.
- 37:53Switching this year has been so many.
- 37:56There's been so many changes.
- 37:57I can't personally keep up with everything alone,
- 37:59because what people also don't understand is I'm still running another horse
- 38:04show photography business on the side that also does six figures a year.
- 38:08So I have to do that too.
- 38:11But Camilla, she has full access to everything she sees.
- 38:14What we make, she knows how many shoots we do. She
- 38:17Like if she wanted to, she could take me down.
- 38:22But just,
- 38:24I don't know, I just really love
- 38:27people and I love working with people that want to work with me.
- 38:30So I don't want to limit our boundaries.
- 38:32Now, granted, my new photographers will not have access to Spiro
- 38:36like Camilla, but if there's anything I can say, I know that
- 38:39when she moves on to her next position because she's moves in May,
- 38:44she said she she knows everything.
- 38:47And I'm super happy for her.
- 38:49So let me ask if I can pick your brain on this.
- 38:51You mentioned that there's
- 38:52two photographers that you had hired that ultimately ended up not working out.
- 38:57So approaching relationships the way you deal with with friendships,
- 39:01how do you handle letting somebody go That is a friend
- 39:05because that's, I mean, that's kind of hard, I would think.
- 39:08Yeah.
- 39:10So being super transparent through the whole process
- 39:14was something that the coach made sure that I was aware of.
- 39:17And I was to the extent as much as I felt that I could be,
- 39:23because I've never hired anyone I mean, for my horses,
- 39:26I hired contractors, but they also do what I do
- 39:29and I just gave them money at the end of the weekend
- 39:33this though the one photographer is
- 39:36was no longer with me because she worked a little bit
- 39:39and she also was a real estate photographer.
- 39:42So she was just kind of picking out shoots for me.
- 39:45And I was in the very beginning stages and the pay did not fit her
- 39:51criteria, which is totally fine.
- 39:54She was with me for probably two months and
- 39:58our parting texts were great.
- 40:00I sent her her W-2 this morning and I was like, Hey, hope you're well
- 40:03because she moved to South Dakota or something like that.
- 40:07But when she messaged me that this wasn't going to work out,
- 40:10she thanked me for all the knowledge and like,
- 40:13because I taught her Spiro,
- 40:15because she didn't have a delivery platform, I was like, get this,
- 40:18it's per job, especially if you're going to,
- 40:20because I knew she was going to move at some point in the future.
- 40:23I said, This job or this platform is based on volume,
- 40:26so you only pay for what you you provide.
- 40:30So she learned all that.
- 40:32So she got a lot of knowledge out of it and she thank me for that.
- 40:34And the other guy,
- 40:37I don't know, it just
- 40:38was more of like a communication type issue
- 40:42and hopefully he doesn't watch us.
- 40:44But I remember training him for a long time and just
- 40:49little things here and there.
- 40:50And then I think the final thing was just like walking in
- 40:52and he was shooting room with the fan on and I was like, Oh,
- 40:54this is not going to work.
- 40:58And like, it is what it is.
- 41:00And I am all about giving chances.
- 41:02I mean, I think in real estate photography,
- 41:05we all have issues at somewhere, especially with editing.
- 41:10At some point
- 41:10in time in like I give chance after chance, after chance after chance,
- 41:14but it's just such a big change that you want to give them the chance
- 41:18to make a difference because it's going to be more hard work on your end.
- 41:22But I had to switch three editors this last year just because the volume,
- 41:27it wasn't anything that they were really doing on air.
- 41:29And other than the fact that I was getting jobs too late,
- 41:31like it wasn't, I couldn't critique them on their work.
- 41:34I told them, Listen, I need this by 6 a.m.,
- 41:366 a.m., and I was getting stuff seven, eight, nine.
- 41:39And it just it didn't work for me.
- 41:41One thing we say
- 41:43here at the office, Tyler, is
- 41:46we always suggest that everyone is generous with their information.
- 41:51And I think that's what you've done.
- 41:53And the thing is, is that
- 41:56if you have an individual that's an employee,
- 41:59and even if that employee crosses over to being a friend, I have hired friends,
- 42:03I have hired family members, I have worked with them.
- 42:07And I think it's important that if they're not doing something
- 42:12the way you would like it to be done, don't assume they're doing it on purpose.
- 42:16Don't assume they're doing it because they want to snub you or
- 42:19are angry at you or want to mess up your business.
- 42:24I have done that in the past because I assume that what was in
- 42:28my head was automatically and that employees head
- 42:32and that is a big thought air that is very incorrect.
- 42:38And so we always use here
- 42:40the idea of being generous with information
- 42:43and we use it that way because many of us are a high C personality
- 42:46where we want everyone else to be okay, We'll take things on our shoulders
- 42:51to give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 42:55But I think one thing that's important is you're actually not helping anybody.
- 42:58And yes, that conversation might seem a little awkward to have,
- 43:03but if you're not generous, then
- 43:06you are being, you know, greedy with the information.
- 43:10And I think that helps me at least when I am like, oh, I need to tell this person.
- 43:14Like, just tell them and don't have biased with it.
- 43:18Don't assume that they are doing that thing to hurt you.
- 43:22They probably are doing it for a very good reason.
- 43:25Just a quick story.
- 43:25We have a photographer in one of our cities
- 43:27and he was not communicating well back to the office
- 43:33and he was doing things like he was picking up shoots on his own.
- 43:37An agent was like, Hey, I've got a house two blocks over. Can you shoot it?
- 43:39He was not giving me notes about shooting a video
- 43:43and vertical versus horizontal orientation.
- 43:46And those were all things that sent production and scheduling
- 43:50for a little bit of a loop.
- 43:51But we would we dug in with him and we actually realized that
- 43:55he picked up the shoot for the benefit of the doubt of the agent.
- 44:00And he had in mind like, Hey, I'm going to get one more shoot.
- 44:03It's right there. I know my schedule.
- 44:05I'm just going to go and do it now.
- 44:06He still needed to communicate.
- 44:07And the other reason the other thing with the vertical video is the agent
- 44:11told him like, Hey, this, I'm going to use it on Instagram.
- 44:14And he just automatically knew that he needed to do vertical.
- 44:18It wasn't it wasn't communicated properly.
- 44:20So that's just where then we
- 44:22we really had to dig in because like always doing it
- 44:23again, he's doing it to get like, no, let's not assume he's doing it again.
- 44:27Like he actually had our backs.
- 44:29Yes. His communication was not correct, but he was thinking about us first.
- 44:33He actually was had to arrange someone to pick up his son
- 44:38to shoot that extra shoot for us.
- 44:41He was going out of our way to help us.
- 44:44He wasn't communicating very well.
- 44:46So sometimes ya’ll. when you don't go in biased to a situation
- 44:50and you just are generous with information
- 44:52and you truly try to understand what's in the other person's head,
- 44:56I think you can accomplish so much more and you can learn
- 44:59so much more about that person.
- 45:01And then you go, Oh, wait a minute, This is really a simple, simple fix.
- 45:06We just need to talk this one through.
- 45:08I definitely see myself kind of with a lot more obstacles
- 45:13coming with new hires in the future because I don't want to give
- 45:18someone the access to change orders, you know, discount stuff.
- 45:22It's just like I mentioned, growing so fast.
- 45:26I wanted to trust.
- 45:27If you're going to have someone on your team,
- 45:28you need to be able to trust them.
- 45:30And that was super big with Camila and the fact that I'm able to trust her
- 45:34and be relieved that she's more of almost a photographer slash admin
- 45:39than really a photographer,
- 45:40because I know that she's going to do right and she's going to, you know,
- 45:44if it's a first time agent, we add that discount in there.
- 45:47If she did less than what
- 45:49we they order, we change their order for them.
- 45:53If they weren't happy with something we she did it without me
- 45:57really having to ask her to or she would ask me
- 46:01if she needs to do this and I would say yes or no.
- 46:04And like today I had two people book.
- 46:07At the very end of the day,
- 46:08I put them in for super basic shoots, but they're just exteriors.
- 46:11So I said, Hey, change their orders before you submit.
- 46:15So she she's got my back, so.
- 46:17Our guest is Tyler Graham of Weston Media
- 46:20in the South Carolina and a little bit of North Carolina to Tyler.
- 46:24Yeah, we cover kind of like the coast right there Ocean Isle type area.
- 46:30Awesome. Yeah.
- 46:31And he was a panel speaker at the REPP 2024
- 46:35conference just as a reminder.
- 46:37So, Tyler, we're getting a little bit close
- 46:39to the end of the episode here and I always like to ask
- 46:43if if you were to speak to another real estate photographer
- 46:46or media company with you being relatively new, it would be easy.
- 46:50I'm going to twist things up a little bit.
- 46:52It would be easy to encourage other new photographers
- 46:55with what you're learning and give them some advice.
- 46:58But what about the veteran
- 47:01real estate media people?
- 47:03What's something that you would encourage those that have been in the business
- 47:06for a long time to remember
- 47:10anything come to mind?
- 47:12I just would be open to change.
- 47:14I mean, we are constantly changing the way we do things,
- 47:19and just because this is the way we did it
- 47:22ten plus years ago, I mean, technology itself, Spiro, is changing all the time
- 47:26and I love so like my VA will literally message me.
- 47:30He's like, Hey, Spiro has these updates, so we want to implement them.
- 47:33I'm like, Yes, do it.
- 47:35Like when the Cubicasa and or like, I'll get the email
- 47:38and I'll say, Hey Spiro, send an email about updates.
- 47:41Can you please implement the Cubicasa?
- 47:43When they did the thing about the Dropbox videos,
- 47:46I didn't even see that he was like, Tyler Good news.
- 47:49Spiro did the Dropbox things.
- 47:50So that's what I meant by like they know Spiro better than I know Spiro
- 47:55and he did.
- 47:56He started at the same time I did, but just be open to change and
- 48:00think about think about the positive sides of the situations
- 48:03before you think of the negative.
- 48:05It's good.
- 48:06Yeah, that that is really good.
- 48:09Tyler, thank you so much for your insight today.
- 48:11Just incredible. So much to learn.
- 48:13We need to do this again because I feel we barely scratched the surface.
- 48:17You are a master at building relationships and managing those
- 48:20and making people feel good.
- 48:21And and that is, in my opinion the true key to your success.
- 48:26So thank you so much for your insight today.
- 48:29Thank you for having me.
- 48:30I really enjoyed it.

- 48:46but it's just awesome and a pleasure just to hear your enthusiasm and the joy.
- 48:50I can tell you're a joyful type of guy,
- 48:52which is that can carry business a long way to loving what you do.
- 48:56So if if somebody would wanted to get a hold of you,
- 49:00maybe pick your brain on some things.

- 49:30I did have one more question.
- 49:31Just and you mentioned coaching a few times.
- 49:34I think we would not be doing it.
- 49:36We would be doing a disservice to not mention I think people can assume
- 49:40because we love the REPP Group, but just what coaching are you using?
- 49:44- And I think, - Yeah, I just didn't want to overstep any boundaries,
- 49:49but I used Eli Jones's course like you mentioned before.
- 49:52REPP I started with their video course before I switched over to their coaching.
- 49:57Kenny Cubas was my coach and he is my coach right now.
- 50:01But don't tell anybody because you're not supposed to be.
- 50:04But yeah, definitely.
- 50:07If you're interested in coaching, you can.
