- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, friend.
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurray.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for listening to Bible Track Tech Ops.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go back to the beginning.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Genesis 1, verse 1 says, in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: And God said, let there be light, and there was light.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: The program you're going to hear today.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: is taken in part from a message.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I had the privilege of preaching at my home church not too long ago.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: My prayer is that it's a help to you.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about in the beginning.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go back to the beginning.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's helpful to start at the beginning of it all and lay a foundation for what is to come.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: So the next voice you're going to hear is me.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: But me, from a little while ago, as I preached this message to my home church, listen now.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for the blessing that was.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you would, take your bibles and go to the book of Genesis, you may already be there.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredible this passage here in this entire first chapter.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Somehow God sums up all of creation in just a chapter.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: But literature is full of examples of
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Attention grabbing or famous first lines.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you had to read any of these when you were in high school or not, but how many can tell me where that line three words call me Ishmael.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone know where that one came from?
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Have you nodding your head from, from?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: What we did actually got it, all right?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: How about it was the best of times?
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: It was the worst of times.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Tell us who cities are, we got a cultured man over here with great wrath.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: He keeps a hidden, most of the time he's at his very face and date.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm poking him trying to find the figure with the guy there.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: How would this one, ladies?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: It is a true universal acknowledge that the single man in position of a good fortune must be in a want of a wife.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: Ms. Amy?
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: Proud and prejudice, all right?
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: about this one, little harder.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking 13, 1984 by George Orwell.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: You guys would lose double jeopardy if that was the question.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Here's an easy one.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: In a hole on the ground, they're lived to Hobbit.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Tolkien, right?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: The Hobbit, of course.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, none of those can compare to the one we get to claim.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: God.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, all of the, there's so many other places in Scripture, Scripture is replete full of phrases or verses that have been bedded themselves in our psyche, John 3, 16, of course, we could probably quote it together, for God's love the world.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Psalm 23.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: The Lord is my shepherd.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: We know that one.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Roman 623 for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord Philippians 413 maybe one of the most
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: misuse, passive scripture, but I can do all things through Christ which strength.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember Tim TV, remember those cultural days that I talked about a couple of weeks ago at Fort Riley, when I was a young person, my dad was in the military, if you were with us a couple weeks ago, and my dad was in the military, and so I was homeschooled, and my two younger brothers were, and so there's a cultural days, Ethan's on in here, so I can tell him so however I want to.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: But he was with me.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: I am 90% certain,
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think back, now I'm preaching now, so I have to make sure I'm right.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was some famous sports guy for some reason, I wanted to say it was Tim Teebo, but we'll find either way, whoever it was quoted, I could do all things through crisis strength this me and kind of took it out of context.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: They were talking about bench pressing of all things, and so they weren't really applied to spiritual matters.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe it wasn't Tim Teebo, maybe it's a better Christian than that, I don't know.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Matthew 69, after this manner, therefore, pray ye, our Father.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's a whole lot of heathens that play high school basketball or football that would quote that coming before coming out of a locker room one thing.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Our father, which aren't having how to be the name, these haven't betted it in us, but there are few that can compete within the beginning.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: And realize they can only be one first verse.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: You don't get a second chance of being first.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: And so there's only one first verse.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: But think about this.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: How many other verses in Scripture speak with the same raw?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: mind-boggling power as is summed up in just a few words.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: The thing about what is being said here, sometimes we read the Bible as if it's just, it's an allegory, it's a fairy tale in the beginning.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: Whether you believe it or not, I hope you do.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: But act as if you believe it.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: In the beginning, God created the heaven.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: The earth, all that is in there, all that in there is was created by him, and then now he takes a chapter to tell us about it, but it's summed up in this first verse, every miracle in Scripture rests on the power revealed in Genesis 1, 1.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: You think about the party of the Red Sea?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but God created the water to be parted.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: So that ranks underneath it.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: The sun standing still for Joshua, I think it was the Amalachites, but I'm not mistaken.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but the sun had already been created.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: The power it would take to make a sun stand still, oh, an awe-inspiring.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: But how about the power to create a sun and every other star in the sky just like that?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: The power to...
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: tear down the walls of Jericho in our human mind we see that and that's massive that's incredible that they just fall down Yeah, but God created the matter out of which the walls were made So it all comes back to Genesis one one all of those they're incredible, but there can only be one first
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: verse, and it may just stand long.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: There's no preamble, there's no forward, there's no introduction, the Bible, and let's just take it for by faith for now that I'm reading the right book for English speaking people, but that's something we'll discuss later.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: But the Bible spends no time and no effort attempting to defend itself.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Just right out of the jump.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: In the beginning,
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: God, not let me take you on a meandering journey to explain all of this in the beginning.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because at the end of the day, you've got to take it by faith.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to say, I believe that or I don't.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: There is no great argument.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: There's no oratorical ability that I have that can fully convince you if you will not be convinced a man that doesn't want help cannot be helped.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean by that is, this was said about somebody else.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully it's not true for me.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I think I was talking about another guy.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: He said, if you ask that guy the time, he'll tell you how to build a watch.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully I'm not that bad, all right?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: Don't ask the guys from BTI.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: They may have opinions on this.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: We were spending a lot of time in a car recently.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I can monologue with the best of them.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's what God made me a preacher.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: My reason he is, I want to be clearly understood.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: I want to tell you all the context.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want to make sure you understand what I'm trying to say.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: But God chose the precise words he wanted to say and then just said them.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: You ever had that conversation with yourself in the shower about precisely what you're going to say to that other party.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they were in the house while you were taking the shower.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they were a spouse or loved one.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you need to say some things.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: You get out the shower.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: and then you waffles.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you, well, what I mean to say is, no, no, no, no, you were really bold in the shower, said's enough, but you not so much.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: You put your clothes on, you lose all your curries.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: That doesn't make any sense.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: But God said what he meant to say, no, if it answered what's about it.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: I would submit to you, as far as physical feats of strength, the first verse of Scripture stands alone.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: And if Lord would allow it like to mine in the coming days, maybe the first few chapters of Genesis, we will not do so today.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you have to start with verse one.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: You might be wondering why?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: Why not start?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Start a.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: preaching career with John 3, 16 or the Romans wrote or Proverbs with wisdom or something along those lines.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: Why Genesis 1, 1?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: One of the reasons to start in Genesis, specifically the book of Genesis, you can kind of break it up into two unequal parts you have Genesis 1 through 11.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of almost, if you will, the creation, and then there's like downward descent before you get to chapter number 12,
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: where God begins to raise up humanity through Abraham.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: You have the flood, you have the tarababble, you have all of these human sins, stupidity, silliness, all these things that happen in Genesis at 11th or 11th.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: But in Genesis 11th or 11th, it is just chalkful of doctrine.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: I thought all those things are just mentioned.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, our foundation being God in Genesis 11th, you could start right there in the beginning.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: God, that's not going to change.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible, Genesis 1, 3, and God said, doctrine, Genesis 1 and 2, God established as doctrine, Genesis 3, He established as sin judgment, atonement, promise of redemption, Genesis 4 through 11, the sanctity of life, family, government nations, doctrine, preaching, Genesis 3, God seeks man and calls to him, Noah is a preacher of righteousness, our mission, the great commission in salvation.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: We see that in Genesis chapter 12.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: missions and nations and languages originating and Genesis 11 and our heart and our fellowship with God will get to that in just a moment.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: The first time that men begin to call upon the name of the Lord as Genesis chapter number four, our worship, the sacrificial worship in Genesis 4, public worship begins and our lifestyle inoc walked with God.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Realize worship is not in event.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: It is a walk.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's not something you just come to church to do.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's something you live your entire life and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and all and
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: all these, so why Genesis, well, the Bible, it would feel sorely incomplete and perhaps honestly incomprehensible without the book of Genesis.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: It sets the stage for the entire, if you will, drama of redemption and almost all of the important doctrines and teachings of the Bible have their foundation in this book.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say this, it's largely because we have abandoned, I say, God's people, but the
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: the beliefs that can only come out of Genesis 1 through 11 that are societies in such disarray.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: If we as a people, and I'm not just talking about the church or part of what we as Americans, we as denizens, as citizens of the world believe what Genesis 1 through 11 had to say, it would radically change what we do or don't do.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm not trying to wow you with all of these different references, but my point is twofold one.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I believe a study through this book will help lay a foundation upon which every one of God's people can confidently and boldly stand.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: I've already said in the Sunday School, but I believe wholeheartedly that this book can solve every human problem.
