- 0:14politics current events and pop culture.
- 0:18This is he's the Whitfield Report with Sam Whitfield.
- 0:36Hey there folks, welcome to tonight's edition of the
- 0:40Whitfield report. I am hosts and Whitfield
- 0:44broadcasting are live from South Florida and joining me here
- 0:49tonight is everyone's favorite mod if you're a part of the nerd
- 0:56rata community and that is just another red shirt who My
- 1:01experience is not just another register here.
- 1:04Yeah he is an exceptional red shirt but anyway I don't know if
- 1:13you do much of your own content syrup.
- 1:17I know that you drift around the YouTube Community a lot.
- 1:22So first off, welcome to the program and just briefly, how
- 1:26did you get involved in YouTube and just this whole Corner of
- 1:31fandom in the internet. oh, I think your I think you're muted.
- 1:44Maybe. Come on, there it is.
- 1:48Oh, yeah, I muted the microphone by mistake wants to touch that
- 1:51button. Sorry, thank you.
- 1:52First of all, thank you and it's a pleasure to be here.
- 1:58How did I get into this whole YouTube thing?
- 1:59That's, that's probably not the usual story.
- 2:04I knew about YouTube, I would occasionally jump on and watch
- 2:07videos, but but that was about it, you know, mostly stuff like
- 2:12a recommended. If it looked interesting, I'd
- 2:14watch it, but I was a big blog reader.
- 2:17A couple of years ago, a Blog I read regularly finished up, a
- 2:21post with a link to a YouTube video that was had something to
- 2:26do with celebrities fleeing Hollywood and it had the
- 2:29craziest thumbnail for the video and I went that look that weird
- 2:36but it looks interesting. So I click through watched it,
- 2:39it was on the Gary's nerd. Roddick Channel and I was like
- 2:43this guy's interesting to listen to.
- 2:45He's got some interesting takes and Planes, why he has the
- 2:48opinion? He has.
- 2:49So I watched a few more of his videos and subscribed and I
- 2:54discovered live streams because I'd never, I didn't know
- 2:57anything about live streams and I got on a live stream and
- 3:00there's this chat and I am looking for a box to comment
- 3:04with. And there isn't one because I
- 3:06don't have a channel yet, you need a channel to have a name to
- 3:09comment with. So, I created a channel and I
- 3:13needed a name that well, I'm, I'm in the spa.
- 3:17Culture world. Now like start, I love Star
- 3:20Trek, I love Star Wars, all of the prisoner.
- 3:22I love a lot of the Sci-Fi stuff, what I call myself and I
- 3:29was like something to do with Star Trek.
- 3:31I was like, well, I could be one of the red shirts and
- 3:35Engineering was like, well, that'd be not one of the red
- 3:38shirts and Engineering at names too long.
- 3:40Just another red shirt, that sounds great, that's not
- 3:43pretentious or anything. And so, I picked that name Mmmmm
- 3:48and signed up and started commenting and about two months
- 3:54after I started commenting and and finding other channels to
- 3:58watch and watching a lot more live streams.
- 4:01I picked up my first wrench and had no idea what I was doing.
- 4:05Was a babe in the woods, didn't know where the controls were,
- 4:08didn't know what the controls did.
- 4:11Luckily, in that live stream, there was already a wrench and
- 4:16that got that was Erik, Kay, who is the main wrench for Gary
- 4:21Abner, dry em any. He basically help me out, gave
- 4:26me some advice, showed me the ropes and he's still basically,
- 4:30I consider it to be my mentor because I just try and follow
- 4:33his example. And a couple of a month or so
- 4:39later I was watching Friday night tights and Gary was
- 4:43saying, let's who's here, let's see who's here and he was he was
- 4:46calling out people. He saw in the chat and then he
- 4:49announced the end and I and we have a new female wrench.
- 4:52I think it was Jennifer Cisco. And then he said another new
- 4:56Ridge and somebody I'd probably Jeremy interrupted him and the
- 5:02conversation went back and forth for a minute and I thought did
- 5:04he was he did he just start to say And another new wrench, just
- 5:08another Edge now. Donna know that could never
- 5:10happen. And finally Gary got a word in
- 5:14edgewise and and said and just another red shirt isn't is the
- 5:17last new is another new wrench, and I type you go kidding me in
- 5:22the chat and it showed up and then my name turned blue and the
- 5:26wrench appeared next to it. You could have knocked me over
- 5:28with a feather, there's a big deal for me.
- 5:31So and then I found out that's a whole different Level when
- 5:37you're modeling a chat with that, many people watching at
- 5:41the same time, even with slow mode on it's hard to hard to
- 5:47catch things. And it's oh yeah and it's
- 5:49important that the mods do. So I had a learning curve all
- 5:55over again after 2 months or so of being a wrench of trying to
- 6:01figure out how to be a wrench on the channel and a chat that big
- 6:06So, but it's, you know, it's been a hell of a lot of fun.
- 6:09I've enjoyed the ride. Yeah, well it's it's been great
- 6:13getting to know you kind of threw this community.
- 6:17I mean Gary's community and I guess the the Geeks and Gamers
- 6:21Community has gone through so many different name, variations,
- 6:24you know, the fellowship. The all right, you know do you
- 6:33know Zone if you read mainstream press, just a lot of different
- 6:40variations. Yeah, I discovered Gary ads,
- 6:45most of the people here know, because during the pandemic
- 6:52during lockdown, I got bored and I found I found the critical
- 6:56drinkers Channel 4's and I don't even know how I think I found
- 7:04his channel because I watched like one of his reviews on one
- 7:08of the Star Wars movies. She is in my and then Mike.
- 7:12I'll host Apex gamma who isn't here this week but he's in chat.
- 7:19He was like oh yeah drinkers I followed him six months months
- 7:24ago, he's great. He is so then I basically
- 7:30binge-watched. a bunch of drinkers videos and then And
- 7:39then Gary popped up in my feed kind of recommended and I'm
- 7:44like, who's the guy who looks like he's from ZZ Top.
- 7:48So that's so I started. I started watching Gary died in
- 7:54some in some ways I want to say I liked him better then drinker,
- 8:00but I like them just as much. And yeah.
- 8:05You know, he did a pretty good job with his content.
- 8:10So I just went through down, through the rathole and
- 8:14eventually I found, I tell you, I think in a, in comics
- 8:20divisions streams a couple times.
- 8:23And then on the cocktail lounge, which is hosted by our good
- 8:30friend. Matt from foul ball Productions
- 8:32and A few weeks ago, you had a pretty heated discussion with
- 8:38one of the panelists on cultural Marxism and whatnot, which I
- 8:44find very interesting because not a lot of people talk about
- 8:47that in this space. No, I mean, it's, you talked, in
- 8:53this space most people talk about, you know, the culture
- 8:55War. Yeah.
- 8:57And and my point probably was, I don't remember my exact words or
- 9:03what? Exact topic was, but the culture
- 9:06word derives from from social, from cultural Marxism.
- 9:11Because when economic Marxism that was what that was what it
- 9:16started as and they said, you know, economics will cause the
- 9:20working class to rise up and in a Communist Revolution and it
- 9:24didn't happen because if it was going to happen, it would have
- 9:27happened in Germany. Not not Russia.
- 9:30So all the all of the marks is thinkers started, scratching
- 9:34their heads and they formed a think tank.
- 9:38And the came up with this New Concept cultural Marxism will
- 9:41change the culture to cause the Revolution and that was a long
- 9:46time ago. So cultural Marxism is not
- 9:50talked about much because it's for most people today.
- 9:54It's ancient history. I mean, it's it dates back to
- 9:56the time between the two world wars in the 20th century.
- 10:01But the culture war is very much current, it's just knowing where
- 10:06it comes from, sometimes helps to give you perspective on it.
- 10:10So that was where about was what I was talking.
- 10:12That's why I talk about the about cultural Marxism.
- 10:15It's the origin point of this stuff.
- 10:19Yeah, well and it's interesting that you bring that up because
- 10:24that's kind of where my whole YouTube career kind of began.
- 10:32I'm I'm 27, but I came up watching all of Andrew
- 10:38Breitbart, sold videos and reading breitbart.com, when he,
- 10:43when he was still alive. And in fact, one of our mods, A
- 10:48lady, disinfectant. Actually knew Andrew fairly
- 10:53well, but it's interesting because I heard anyone really
- 10:59bring up the cultural Marxism stuff that much in this space
- 11:03other than perhaps you and Gary out.
- 11:07Well and and fell Milan on occasion.
- 11:13But yeah, I mean, it's still very much, you know, people
- 11:18think that stuff is new, you know, within the last five years
- 11:22and it's not no, it's not do. So they took the masks off.
- 11:28Is the difference. Oh yeah, then they're not.
- 11:32That's why it seems new in the last five years because they
- 11:35were, they were doing their best to stay behind, you know, out of
- 11:40the out of the spotlight behind the scenes, Yeah, they're yeah,
- 11:46they're just not hiding it and anymore at all.
- 11:49Not at all. No.
- 11:53And I mean, so with that in mind, I mean, I guess, you know,
- 12:02it's interesting because people are starting to really wake up
- 12:06to this especially, you know, this past week with the whole
- 12:10Oscars Fiasco. I, you know, I don't know, I
- 12:15don't know if you've been in any other streams this week talking
- 12:17about that whole incident but you know, I for one.
- 12:23Watch the Oscars and you know probably seems like 2012, you
- 12:28know, back when I was in high school and even then they
- 12:34weren't really that interesting. But you know I wasn't even
- 12:41tuning in to the Oscars. Congratulations on getting eight
- 12:46hundred Subs Sam. Oh thank you, fat cake boy for
- 12:50the Super Chat. Yes we have 130 Subs now.
- 12:55Thanks to Gary who gave me a good shout out earlier in the
- 13:02week so hail Gary, thank you very much.
- 13:09Anyway though this whole thing with the Oscars yeah I think a
- 13:12lot of people start to wake up to just what a sham this whole
- 13:16thing is although yeah. What, so what's your whole
- 13:21pinion on the whole will smithing?
- 13:23Do you think it was real or fake or I've seen people who go back
- 13:28and forth on it and I don't know.
- 13:31Okay. after doing some thinking about it, I think it was real I
- 13:38think the tears in his acceptance, speech were fake,
- 13:42hmm. I think A couple of things.
- 13:46I finally got to see some other angles, which get, which was
- 13:51very interesting. Because in one camera angle, you
- 13:55got to see Jada before and then immediately after the incident
- 14:02and before the incident, she scowled and he was laughing,
- 14:08then he turned and looked at her and that was it, he went up on
- 14:13stage slap. I came back and I forget whether
- 14:18it was right after the slap, or right after he was yelling
- 14:22screaming at Chris Rock, Jada was smiling.
- 14:26She look like the cat, that ate the canary and it was like you,
- 14:31this was, you know, you just, you are so happy.
- 14:35This happened. I think, I think for starters, I
- 14:38think Jada Pinkett Smith is a manipulative, and I know the
- 14:43word is out of fashion with psychologists And I'm not one,
- 14:46but a person with no real emotion who doesn't acknowledge
- 14:52other people, as real as they are a psychopath.
- 14:58Yeah, I don't think and I think she broke you.
- 15:02That's my point. That was real because I think
- 15:05she broke him and he snapped And they're up on stage.
- 15:09Yeah. Well, there are all sorts of,
- 15:12you know, I mean, there have been rumors for years now that
- 15:19they have like an open marriage and she was, you know, basically
- 15:26screwing other guys on the side and I don't think that was just
- 15:31rumors little more. I think there's a little more
- 15:36established than that. Well yeah I think it's been
- 15:40confirmed now pretty much and I don't know whether or not he
- 15:46just snapped finally and you know had enough of it or if We
- 15:55have if we're just spur of the moment.
- 15:57But yeah I mean it was a it was over g.i., Jane joke to, I mean
- 16:01it wasn't very, it was a milquetoast joke and the was at
- 16:06the most very milquetoast, it was it really wasn't that big
- 16:10should not. Excuse me, should not have been
- 16:13that big a deal because she's already on record as saying her
- 16:17bald head doesn't bother her. That's why she shaved.
- 16:21It said well supposedly does, it doesn't bother her now, you
- 16:26know, maybe she lied about that. Okay.
- 16:31I mean, you know again, yeah, again I'm kind of thinking that,
- 16:36maybe maybe it did bother because, you know, Chris Rock
- 16:39made the joke and he started to laugh and she got pretty pissed
- 16:47about it. So then you know he He went up
- 16:51in slut and slapped. And at first, at first, I
- 16:56thought the thing was staged, completely just to get the
- 16:59Oscars more views. But then once I saw footage the
- 17:03day after the, of the whole, you know, keep your keep my wife's
- 17:08name out of your mouth or whatever.
- 17:10And just the, the Rye motion that if that was acting that was
- 17:14the best acting job. He's done he's ever done.
- 17:20Yeah. And and I don't think Chris Rock
- 17:23is that good, an actor to feign surprise and shock and try and
- 17:27recover like that. No I think that was real for
- 17:31Chris Rock. If that was staged, they didn't
- 17:34tell Chris Rock. It was going to happen so I
- 17:36think it was real I really do I know that that basically
- 17:41Hollywood closed ranks around him, the everybody in that,
- 17:44pretty much in that room including Chris Rock closed
- 17:46ranks supported him, the police were ready to arrest.
- 17:50System and Chris Rock. Prevented that by refusing to
- 17:54press charges, and the academy asked him to leave and he
- 17:57refused and then he goes up and he, and he and E.
- 18:00And then they give him an Academy Award after this
- 18:05happened. Well, latest news is he's
- 18:10resigned from the academy. Yeah.
- 18:14I mean that's the latest news. What?
- 18:16We'll see, how long that sticks for.
- 18:20Yeah but I I question what what career he prospects he has now.
- 18:28I mean because the heat, well let's put it this way.
- 18:31Even if Hollywood decided, oh, he can still work.
- 18:36He's not going to be the box-office draw.
- 18:38He was before. Well, he to be honest though, he
- 18:42really has And for the past like 15 years though, I mean, right
- 18:48now being, but even if he got the right vehicle and did, you
- 18:51know, ya got somebody to help you read a script to find out
- 18:55whether it's stinks. He he'd have to play the right
- 19:01part. You'd have to have the right
- 19:02script. He have a shot at recover at
- 19:04coming back. Other actors have done it.
- 19:08But I don't think he's got a prayer of a comeback.
- 19:11Now really? I think it's all over.
- 19:15I don't husband that. I don't even know if he really
- 19:20wants to come. If he wants to come to come back
- 19:25to be honest. I mean he's just been He's just
- 19:29been humiliated for four years now.
- 19:31Because at this point it seems like you know and his I mean it.
- 19:39And now his, you know, his son is basically an actor, only
- 19:42through nepotism. You know, he his son is not that
- 19:51Is not that great of an actor and I never really thought that
- 19:54Will Smith to be fair you know, was a fantastic actor.
- 19:57I mean he was he was good and like Independence Day in a few
- 20:01things but he was never like he was never groundbreaking or
- 20:05anything. No.
- 20:07He's like yeah he was best when he was playing a variation of
- 20:11himself. Yeah Men In Black Independence
- 20:19Day you know Probably the Wild Wild West is well.
- 20:23You know, that they were they were all variations on him being
- 20:28good at wisecracks this. Which I which I guess they were
- 20:32going to make a, you know, they were going to, they were going
- 20:37to make a sequel to that and now I guess they're not going into,
- 20:44you know, and you know, I love you, I remember the original
- 20:49wild wild west on television. It was, it was play, it was
- 20:54tongue-in-cheek, but it was not as goofy as that movie was.
- 20:59And that was for mid-60s. Comedy, western comedy.
- 21:04So I don't know why they would make a sequel to it.
- 21:06I'd be. Did that thing even make money
- 21:09the first movie. I don't know.
- 21:13I don't know if it did or anything.
- 21:15I don't know. Who did, I know, I know was
- 21:17like, popular for a while, but okay, then it probably made just
- 21:23enough money for them to say, well, it wasn't a bomb.
- 21:25Let's see if we can make it second movie, but it Nia now
- 21:29that'll be actually a good test of whether he's got a career.
- 21:33If if they if they shut down a sequel to, you know, it's the
- 21:37sequel to Wild Wild West and there's Any indication it's
- 21:42because of Will Smith and his actions that's bad news for him.
- 21:50Well I think I think though, too.
- 21:53To be honest the You know, one did that movie come out the the
- 22:01late 90s I mean if I think so I'm going to take a quick look
- 22:06at IMDb. If the Matrix you know SQL
- 22:14Matrix for that. They did was any indication of
- 22:19how it's going to get over. How it's going to go probably
- 22:23not well yeah yes 1999. So if they were to make a new
- 22:36one now it would it would be about, you know, 20 more than 20
- 22:41years at this point. And yeah, you know, not to say
- 22:46that sequel. Not not to say that long-awaited
- 22:51sequel is don't ever work. I mean, there have been a few
- 22:54exceptions I guess but by and large I just don't see.
- 23:00Ahem Reviving that IP, especially considering the only
- 23:04they don't want people that would be interested in that
- 23:07probably weren't even born. When the when the original right
- 23:11now, the first movie came out, right?
- 23:15Yes. Yeah, that just I don't, I don't
- 23:19make sense to me on a number of levels, but yeah, I don't know.
- 23:24I think, I think will, I think Will Smith would be, it would be
- 23:28good if he could get some help because Cuz I don't think he's
- 23:32he's got a healthy marriage or Healthy Home life.
- 23:35Well, an impression I got well, I mean, but I think the thing
- 23:41that, that points to again, young back to the whole thing
- 23:44with, you know, cold or Marxism. I think it's kind of indicative
- 23:49of how most hardwood relationships probably are, at
- 23:54least on that level, you know, where you have a room for.
- 24:00Of a-listers. I mean, how many years did they
- 24:06can get out of me pretend that nothing was going on with Harvey
- 24:10Weinstein, you know, or yeah, or Kevin Spacey or any of these,
- 24:16right? We know they exactly and one of
- 24:20the ever addressed, you know, the any of the whistleblowers
- 24:24usually former child actors. And and they never have done
- 24:30anything about that. That's that's just quietly.
- 24:32Swept under the rug? Yeah, and, you know, it's now
- 24:41it's Now, it's kind of, I mean, I'd like to think that it's
- 24:47improving somewhat, but in reality, I think there are kind
- 24:51overcorrecting somewhat now doing the opposite.
- 24:57You know, maybe I don't see true accountability coming out of
- 25:02there. I mean, I don't think the
- 25:04overcorrection is that people are being, you know, there's too
- 25:07many accusations being leveled in another, you know, in the
- 25:10other direction. I just don't think.
- 25:14Did vehicle. There's really any
- 25:15accountability. I think it's lip service,
- 25:17whatever their whatever they do that's supposed to change.
- 25:20It is, I think is mostly lip service.
- 25:22They really want to hope that people just stop paying
- 25:24attention to it. Yeah well I mean whatever
- 25:28whatever was good about me to in the beginning God hijacked and
- 25:34you know now now it's just another PR stand that they used
- 25:39to you know any things. And that's not even you know
- 25:44counting this whole thing with you know Disney and you know
- 25:48Florida and oh yeah yeah yeah you know and I'm I'm in Florida
- 25:58and you know, I'm not like near Disney, but I mean it's it is a,
- 26:03it is a cottage, you know, this big part of Tourism and London,
- 26:07but it this way. Huge didn't Disney isn't going
- 26:10to be hurting because of this there.
- 26:14No, they're too big to fail, but I do think it's interesting that
- 26:19there is such a pushback that Disney is essentially from my
- 26:23understanding is saying that they know better than let's do
- 26:26at this point. Yeah.
- 26:29And that's a dangerous position to be in for a company that's
- 26:32been known for more than the time I've been alive as a
- 26:38family, entertainment company, You know, that, that, that
- 26:44that's not a good look, for a company that's supposed to be a
- 26:47family entertainment company. And if there's anything that
- 26:52could reduce Disney's customer base to wealthy single people
- 27:01that might do it, if they keep pushing this, Because that's
- 27:06that, that could really be the be a problem for them.
- 27:09They are on the wrong side of this.
- 27:13When it comes to their customers, they are, they are
- 27:15accommodating activists. I think mostly within the
- 27:21company and and not paying attention to what their
- 27:26customers would want. And that's not a good way to go.
- 27:31That mean that's, that's the get won't go broke model.
- 27:37Yeah, I mean and they're not going to they're not going to
- 27:43change just because they're so used to that model already.
- 27:46Been going to You know, they're just going to continue to spiral
- 27:51into a bully and I mean no one no one I know watches their shit
- 27:55anyway. Well no I mean yeah but there's
- 27:59but they still there parks are still so overcrowded, it's
- 28:02ridiculous. Okay.
- 28:03And I've been there four different times and I've never
- 28:05seen crowds like they have now. But the difference, the
- 28:11difference with this is I just want to point out.
- 28:13I remember, I think it was like last year's Shareholder meeting
- 28:19that Disney held and somebody at back then asked, because this
- 28:25was the big controversy after Luke Skywalker and the land
- 28:29DeLorean and then Gina Carano being fired and some of the more
- 28:32toxic statements made by Disney and lucasfilm Executives from
- 28:37the story team. And somebody got up, somebody
- 28:40got on the phone in the in the shareholder meeting and said and
- 28:43stockholder meeting and said, you know, is Kathleen, Kennedy
- 28:47damaging. The brand and will and if so,
- 28:49would she be which he be let go because of her Paula, you know,
- 28:53damaging because of her politics.
- 28:55And and so it was a very pointed question and Bob Shaye Peck LED
- 29:00off with Disney is a politically neutral company and nobody
- 29:06laughed, which is what blew my mind.
- 29:10So a year ago, Disney could still with a straight face have
- 29:14its its chairman claim that it is a politically.
- 29:18Neutral company. And a year later, they're
- 29:21saying, we will do everything in our power to over to repeat to
- 29:26get the legislature to repeal or the courts to strike down the
- 29:33parental rights in education, law.
- 29:36That's a hell of a shift in one year.
- 29:40Yeah, I mean I I was shocked and you know really no one.
- 29:49I mean I think a few people called called them out on the
- 29:53fact they were you know, when when she picks him that they
- 29:57were a political neutral company but not enough people not enough
- 30:02dead and you know I will say that entertainment is one of the
- 30:09It's not where the right still has a mass of blind spot.
- 30:14I mean, I I like the fact that the dill I wire and others are
- 30:20at least attempting to do alternative, you know, media.
- 30:25But the thing that really I guess, irritates me, is the fact
- 30:29that a lot of that, just seems to be, oh, well, this is, this
- 30:34is conservative, you know, version of whatever.
- 30:39Brown, which is not how you do it.
- 30:43I mean, that's not what people want.
- 30:45They just want a good story without, you know, too much
- 30:51political influence. And I mean, I've told people
- 30:53that like if you want to know how to write you know, good
- 30:56thrillers or something, just watching its Norms that John
- 31:00Milius row, back in the 70s and 80s.
- 31:07Well, you can put A lot of almost any message into a piece
- 31:13of entertainment as long as character and Story come first
- 31:20and the message is more of a moral of the story, right?
- 31:27The master of that was Rod Serling with his Twilight Zone.
- 31:32The Twilight Zone only had a couple of episodes where the
- 31:34message was on anywhere near on the nose.
- 31:38For the most part, you had to tease it out of the story or for
- 31:42yourself. Yeah.
- 31:43They didn't, they didn't hit you over the head with it.
- 31:47Right? Which I now.
- 31:49It's the it's the exact opposite and right I mean it's also sad
- 31:53because they they actually did try to reskin the Twilight Zone
- 32:00with. I like him.
- 32:02What the what the guys name is the guy who won in the, I think
- 32:08it's Jordan Peele, the guy who did Campion now.
- 32:13I mean, It's just that's turned into an sjw you know remake and
- 32:20I don't even think his version is on anymore.
- 32:24I think well I think it's on Paramount Plus or one of those
- 32:28now or five people. Watch it.
- 32:31What's that sound? Yeah yeah and the current crop
- 32:37doesn't know how to tell a good story.
- 32:39Never mind get the story to make their point for them.
- 32:44This is kind of people who lack the talent.
- 32:47I mean case in point one of the one of the topics it's near and
- 32:52dear to my heart animation Pixar, huge fan of Pixar have
- 32:57been since the early days of Pixar I have the first DVD of
- 33:01Pixar shorts which were essentially technology.
- 33:04Demonstrators that's really what they were.
- 33:07They were to go. They were to be shown a trade
- 33:09shows and symposia in order to get you know.
- 33:14Interest in in Pixar's hardware and computer hardware and
- 33:18software. And they were kind of like, hey,
- 33:21watch this short subject and you can see all the amazing things,
- 33:25our software and Hardware can do and guy named John Lasseter was
- 33:33hired and he's a an artist and character animator and he
- 33:38decided that they're short should try and actually tell a
- 33:41story with character animation, not just go.
- 33:44Hey, look at this, isn't this cool?
- 33:46And that was where the two tensor.
- 33:48Lamp is came from Luxo. Ah, volume of the cart, and the
- 33:54end of the short. And he he was working.
- 33:58Literally elbow to Elbow with the technical Geniuses at Pixar
- 34:03who were writing the software and setting up the
- 34:06configurations to animate whatever, John gave showed him,
- 34:10sketches of. And and then the he talked them
- 34:14through So he had to do Direction without ever being
- 34:18able to draw a pit of picture. One frame of the animation, but
- 34:22he was directing the animation and I'll comes Luxo and it was
- 34:29an enormous hit. I mean, people went crazy when
- 34:32they saw it. There's a reason that little
- 34:34tensor lamp became Pixar part of Pixar's logo and intro to every
- 34:39single one of their movies. So but They me to John, Lasseter
- 34:46out of the company and I really was bogus right.
- 34:50When did when did he get me to I think a year or two ago?
- 34:56No kidding. Yes, a couple of young female
- 35:03employees and John, by the way is known for being a hugger.
- 35:09And man, has he ever gone completely dormant?
- 35:13Because he wants, I think one of his last tweets before he
- 35:16stopped tweeting was who needs a hug today.
- 35:20Well, he's too young ladies decided that John was was
- 35:24inappropriate and he was fired for sexual harassment.
- 35:29Basically, and he went to another studio and he's now
- 35:34taking. He's now siphoning people, out
- 35:36of Pixar to come work with him and the other one they lost was
- 35:40Brad Bird. Who is the excellent director?
- 35:43Who directed The Incredibles, so they've lost they've lost their
- 35:48genius. The guy Made them an animation
- 35:51studio in the first place. And the guy who directed one of
- 35:55the finest animated features they've ever made, And they're
- 36:01losing more people because of it.
- 36:04So I don't think they could make a after school's animated,
- 36:07after-school special now, with the people they have left.
- 36:11Well, well, that explains, I mean, why Pixar has sucked for
- 36:15the last couple of years because last is because last or isn't,
- 36:20you know, at the helm that that's why that at, that is
- 36:24exactly why they have lost. They've lost the, the creative
- 36:28leadership and Disney has to, because some of their finest
- 36:32imagineers have been bailing or taking retirement and just
- 36:36getting out of Dodge for probably the last 20 years.
- 36:39So they're a lot more challenged to come up with a new idea.
- 36:44And if you've ever seen any of this information on this, new
- 36:48LARPing Hotel, the galactic star Cruiser.
- 36:51Oh yeah. Oh my God, it's like is there
- 36:54aren't there any imagineers left at Disney?
- 36:58Because this looks like you bought it from a from a party
- 37:02time store and and kit bashed it.
- 37:07Well, it doesn't even look like Star Wars and now, I know, you
- 37:13know, above all that. I mean, I'm sorry, but in the,
- 37:19in this economy who's going to pay, I mean, even, even even
- 37:24wealthy people, I know here and even wealthy people.
- 37:27I know they're not going to pay six thousand dollars for two
- 37:33nights. You know, Today's forget
- 37:40experience. Are you kidding me?
- 37:42Right? And even if it were the most
- 37:44amazing experience, they still have to compete with.
- 37:49Well, you know, where am I? Should we could spend two days
- 37:53and Maui at the Four Seasons for less money and still pay for the
- 37:57airfare or we could spend a week in.
- 38:00You touring Europe for about the same amount of money.
- 38:03You know what, what would you rather do you know?
- 38:06I was kind of thing and they have to be a better, they have
- 38:10to offer a better product, a better option than all of those
- 38:14other very high-end vacation options.
- 38:18And Disney's never really done that.
- 38:20They just give you middle of the road hotels and charge Four
- 38:25Seasons prices for them almost and they got away with it
- 38:30because their biggest customers were people who saved money by
- 38:34buying a season pass and never bought anything inside the park
- 38:40and families who went for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation.
- 38:43So their kids could meet Mickey and Minnie inevitably a send
- 38:46everything out and they just spent Righteous.
- 38:48Just they just handed over their credit card to the to the Disney
- 38:51gate employee and picked it up when they were driving home.
- 38:55You know, they just spent the Earth because cost is No Object,
- 38:59the kids are never coming back here again.
- 39:01So we're not going to argue over money and those were their two,
- 39:04biggest customer bases. And they've already told the
- 39:10season pass holders, we don't want you anymore.
- 39:14And they're, they're about ready to start losing families.
- 39:18I mean, they've, I don't know who, I don't know.
- 39:20Who is still packing these Parks post post the global emergency.
- 39:29I really don't know how where they're getting all these
- 39:31people. I mean, maybe they're
- 39:32vacationers and maybe their people still going for a
- 39:35once-in-a-lifetime family vacation, but they are Jack in
- 39:39the prices up on everything. Yeah, an Autumn.
- 39:44It's got a bite sometime. The demand can't be that
- 39:47inelastic. Universal Orlando's just down
- 39:51the road. I keep that.
- 39:52I keep as a gag, I keep posting and chats hashtag Universal
- 39:56Orlando, here we come every time Disney becomes this topic of
- 40:00discussion because I'm like, hey is anybody?
- 40:02Remember there's this really cool to theme park place down
- 40:06the road from Disney, it's called Universal Orlando.
- 40:10It's got to bite them sometime. I can't go on forever.
- 40:16So I don't know. I mean, Euro Disney damn near
- 40:19sanctum, at the end of eisenerz tenured.
- 40:26I don't think they're not, I don't think they're too big to
- 40:28fail. I think if they lose the theme
- 40:30parks, they don't have anything left to run on.
- 40:33Well met well met well now, what they're doing to is, I mean,
- 40:38they're having to compete with, you know, Universal Orlando.
- 40:42And you know, I mean, in uni Universal.
- 40:46From what I understand, I haven't been to their park in a
- 40:50while either but there. You know, their experience from
- 40:56what I understand is pretty competitive compared to, you
- 41:01know, Disney's, yeah, and Universal Orlando's hungry.
- 41:05They know, their number two, they want to be number one and
- 41:10they're working, they're working at it and they're paying
- 41:13attention to the people who show up and the difference between
- 41:16Disney and Universal right now is that both parks are
- 41:19overcrowded, okay? Both parks are getting
- 41:22attendance that It over packs, them causes customer, excuse me,
- 41:28customer complaints, about waiting long.
- 41:30Wait times and all that Disney's decision, Disney solution, raise
- 41:34the prices fewer, people will be willing to pay them and then the
- 41:38parks won't be overcrowded universals decision.
- 41:42Build a new park. Yeah, it's expand the product,
- 41:51the supply. So they have to fundamentally
- 41:54different philosophies right now.
- 41:55And I mean, I'm rooting for Universal because I didn't, he's
- 42:00acting like a monopoly. Is what they're doing?
- 42:03And they're not one well. Disney's been a monopoly for
- 42:07years. Well there.
- 42:10Yeah, there was nobody in the same space, you know, this Busch
- 42:14Gardens was never going to be. The equivalent of Walt Disney
- 42:18World or even Disneyland Universal Orlando's.
- 42:23The closest thing to come along that I've seen that could give
- 42:28Walt Disney World a run for its money, and I think it's going
- 42:32to. I just don't think it's quite
- 42:33happened yet, but let Universal Orlando in a year or two.
- 42:37Get a new that new park up in operating and not have it fall
- 42:41on its face. Now they've got a lot more of a
- 42:45A set of options for a destination for a family for a
- 42:48few days to a week or whatever. And that's going to be
- 42:53interesting to see as Disney is, Disney is acting as though, it
- 42:58doesn't care anything about its customers, as long as the park
- 43:01is crowded. Well, I think well, I don't
- 43:07think it's I don't think it's an act.
- 43:10I I don't think they care about their customers as long as
- 43:13that's okay. I misspoke Disney's Behavior
- 43:19shows that they don't give a damn about their customers as
- 43:23long as the park is packed. That's that's why would be more
- 43:25accurate, but I agree with you. Yeah, they don't care and and
- 43:30that's another mask that's coming off.
- 43:31That used to be the Yeah. Disney employees.
- 43:35Used to have to go to the Disney school before they could start
- 43:39working in the Parks and I spoke with somebody who did do it
- 43:42once. And he said, one of the things,
- 43:44one of the classes, you get one of the things they teach you is
- 43:47how to smile. You should always be smiling at
- 43:51the guests. Yeah.
- 43:53And yeah I don't know about that.
- 43:56Yeah, and that's gone. It's just flat gone.
- 44:01That's interesting. Then the the I've watched the
- 44:05operation change from from for over decades because I've been
- 44:09there four times first time was in 1973 and Walt Disney World.
- 44:13And the last time was in 2012 and man, there have been changes
- 44:18major His major differences. Every time I've been there and
- 44:23it's not been for the better since the 25th anniversary in
- 44:2696. Well, I mean, opinion one
- 44:28regards to Disney I have, I have to wonder, I mean, one of the
- 44:35reasons why I think they're just why the quality has gone down is
- 44:39because they're trying to and I'm not defending them.
- 44:44I'm just saying this is on what happened is.
- 44:49Is they've taken over. A bunch of different franchises.
- 44:54I mean, they've taken over, not just Disney properties, but, you
- 45:00know, lucasfilm, you know, marvel just, you know, just
- 45:07those two alone separate could be a whole You know, industry
- 45:13than, you know, each their own ROM.
- 45:16So I just think they've oversaturated themselves with
- 45:21You know, content I think I mean does Marvel Comics in and of
- 45:27itself, I mean I'm a collector but Marvel Comics hasn't really
- 45:31put out anything in terms like a good story in the past 10 years
- 45:38if that no, not for what I've heard.
- 45:43But the parks the park, specifically, I mean, the drain
- 45:47of resources over to these other do properties that they bought
- 45:53these companies and that they've made divisions of Disney.
- 45:57But the philosophy of running the parks changed and it changed
- 46:02during Bob iger's, tenure Iger brought in intentionally.
- 46:07A new guy to be president of park operations, which by the
- 46:11way? Is where?
- 46:16The current CEO came from I'm drawing a blank on his neck.
- 46:20Jpeg Bob jpeg Bob. She pic also came out of head of
- 46:24park operations, which I find interesting.
- 46:28The guy that was hired to be headed park operations by Bob.
- 46:31Iger came out of the retail clothing business where the
- 46:36whole goal is to reduce your costs.
- 46:41That's it. and, That's the way he, that's the way he started,
- 46:47running the theme parks, the Disney theme parks, reduce the
- 46:51costs and I don't think he could spell the phrase guest
- 46:56experience. And I don't think, I don't think
- 46:59shape it could either. So I think that's part of the
- 47:02reason that the Parks have suffered is because they've put
- 47:06essentially, penny-pinching account and types in charge of
- 47:10operating the parks. And it's and is one thing to
- 47:13operate a park. It's another thing to manage the
- 47:17finances of a park. So don't put the financial guy
- 47:20in charge of operations, and worse.
- 47:22Yet, don't put the marketing people in charge of operations
- 47:24because then you get Disney Genie plus.
- 47:27Well, then They put that in, they put that and they put the,
- 47:31you know, the marketing guys in charge of the studios as well,
- 47:36that I mean yeah. And and that's not a, that's a
- 47:42different set of talents. I mean most operations people
- 47:47couldn't be accountants. That go big tear their hair out
- 47:50and run screaming from the room because they can't stand.
- 47:52Looking at all those damn numbers and and it did these are
- 47:56different skill sets. You don't grab one person from a
- 48:00background over here and tell him here.
- 48:02Go run that. That's a good way to find out
- 48:05how fast you can screw up your employees and had and start
- 48:09losing the good ones, which G, I think that's sort of what's been
- 48:12happening in certain parts. It is knee.
- 48:14Yeah. So, So, I think it's manager.
- 48:17It's I just mismanagement and and at the top that the the
- 48:21inability to choose put subordinates in roles to which
- 48:26they will be suited. Well, it's and that's not
- 48:29unusual. That's not unique to Disney.
- 48:31Lots of companies make that mistake.
- 48:34Well, it's also hard to tell like who's running Disney
- 48:39essentially out ways to because I mean, granted granny Grounded.
- 48:45You've got you've got Bob running, the you've got Barbers
- 48:49like the figurehead, you know, of a present of is he really
- 48:53running anything. And then you have Kathleen,
- 48:55Kennedy running lucasfilm and she's just been a joy for for
- 49:02the Star Wars fandom. Yeah.
- 49:07Yes. I don't you know and there's
- 49:09been tons of speculation about just that, what's the deal
- 49:14between jpac and Kennedy? And there's the faction that
- 49:19says there's a civil war going on at lucasfilm, Disney
- 49:23lucasfilm and the other one says, now there's not sure all
- 49:26on the same page. Yeah, I, I have to think they're
- 49:30all on the same page. I think.
- 49:33I think they're if there was a civil war we You seeing, you
- 49:38know, more of it, of course. Anyway, of course, anyone who
- 49:42takes Mike zeros, you know, opinions on on Star Wars I will,
- 49:48I will give it to him. I don't know.
- 49:51I don't know how the guy I gotta give the guy credit he makes you
- 49:56know, 15 videos a day and they all get you know, thousands of
- 50:05views. Use.
- 50:07But, you know, has You know, it would be nice.
- 50:15If the eye if you know, people in Disney, we're fighting back.
- 50:18I don't, I don't think they are. I think anyone who is standing
- 50:21back, you know, gets shit-canned, pretty much
- 50:24immediately. Yeah, I mean II don't I don't
- 50:27think let's put it this way. You know, the wrong opinion,
- 50:32will get you not only can not only fired, but cancelled Yeah,
- 50:37like like Gina did so you know, but problem and all go and and
- 50:44that numpty and in the story group that VP and story group
- 50:47that I never heard of until he raised his head above the
- 50:50parapet. Now they say they tweet some of
- 50:53the craziest things and nastiest things.
- 50:57I know that's not a problem. Yeah.
- 51:04I mean in now even that stuff is starting to leak over to Warner
- 51:09Brothers a bit to like, you know, not as bad.
- 51:16I have seen a couple of Disney people, you know, like the post
- 51:20credits for a few of these Warner Brothers projects and I'm
- 51:23like, wait, why are you just over at Marvel Studios?
- 51:27Like a year or a year or so ago? That's not a good sign.
- 51:38I I don't know though. Where do you think?
- 51:43Where do you think this goes in the next five to ten years, dog?
- 51:47The Cold War, do you think it's gonna get better?
- 51:52I think that the I think that the left that's been pushing and
- 51:56pushing and pushing this isn't going to stop just because
- 52:01people start to tune them out. I think it will they will keep
- 52:07going and try to remain and they'll just get crazier and
- 52:10crazier and crazier but hopefully they'll get less and
- 52:15less relevant and people will start to do what daily wire did
- 52:20they'll start an Or you people will start to realize that, hey,
- 52:26there's more entertainment to be had watching streamers on
- 52:30YouTube and videos about things I'm interested in than there is
- 52:35in watching. You know, regular television and
- 52:41YouTube movies will let me find older movies.
- 52:43I don't even have to pay for and if I like it I'll go out and buy
- 52:46the CD or the Blu-ray or the 4K, whatever is available and people
- 52:50are going to start looking elsewhere for Entertainment, and
- 52:53when they do, that, people will go there to provide it, and
- 52:57Hollywood May implode, they're already doing it.
- 53:01I mean, they bet the farm on China, and then China turned
- 53:04around, and slapped him in the face and said, now, we're not
- 53:07going to kiss you. You know, but the we're done
- 53:11with you. So I don't think they got the
- 53:13sugar daddy in China. They thought they were going to
- 53:15get. Yeah.
- 53:16Well they need a new one. Yeah.
- 53:20Well, they found it yet. Well, that, well, that whole
- 53:23thing with China, though, though to it's amusing, because I think
- 53:28I saw Justin out like a tweet earlier, like saying they stand
- 53:33with Ukraine or something like that and, you know, against
- 53:38against communist oppression and then I don't know who it was,
- 53:42but some like multiple people, you know, quote we did them and
- 53:48and said well, What about the, what about the weaker?
- 53:52The uyghurs exactly. Yeah, nice.
- 53:56Double standard standard. You got there.
- 53:59Yeah. If we're going for a double
- 54:02standard here, we have any standards at all Disney.
- 54:06Well, well, they don't, and I mean again, that just goes the
- 54:11industry kind of as a whole in Hollywood.
- 54:14I mean, like they I think the woke the Been trying to to
- 54:21recruit as hard and as fast as I can.
- 54:23And there's a lot of younger people who have gotten a really
- 54:28bad Mis-Education. Oh, yeah, but the true loud
- 54:35strident, fanatical Believers, I don't think are in a large
- 54:41majority. I think already we're seeing,
- 54:45you know, the youngest generation now.
- 54:48That's that's coming out of school.
- 54:50And feels like many did we get screwed, but they're not
- 54:55automatically looking pointing the finger at the people that
- 55:00their teachers told them were the people who were screwing
- 55:04them. They're looking around, and
- 55:06they're making the decision for themselves in some cases.
- 55:09And I'm, I am encouraged that. I didn't even think that would
- 55:12be possible if you went through K through college.
- 55:17In the, you know, in the last 20 years.
- 55:20So I'm not sure they have I'm not sure they have the armies of
- 55:25Fanatics behind them. So that may mean that eventually
- 55:28the majority realizes. You don't have to apologize.
- 55:31You don't have to bend the knee. You don't even have to pay much
- 55:33attention to them. Just so, you know, and move on.
- 55:38Well, I'm I'm 27 and I can tell you this much.
- 55:42I mean they are fair amount of people who have people my age
- 55:47who bought you know and the whole sjw hype hook, 10 Hook
- 55:54Line and Sinker. And a lot of them I hate to say
- 55:59a lot a lot of them were women so but You know, with the whole
- 56:05gender studies thing but at the same time I mean they over but
- 56:09they overplayed their hand to write.
- 56:13I think as far as the Marxist in schools.
- 56:19Okay. I think I think what's been
- 56:21happening is they've gone too far over overboard.
- 56:25Where even the kids are? At least the ones who are old
- 56:28enough to really know what's going on.
- 56:31I kind of like, wait, why? You want?
- 56:37You know, there are how many genders you're saying, they're
- 56:41there. You're saying there are 57
- 56:43genders. Nope, I mean, it's just, it's
- 56:49just gone bizarre. Yes.
- 56:52And it's and, and people are starting to notice and I know
- 56:56I'm not, I know, I'm not the first to make this point, but
- 57:00what's, what I think is starting to cause a pendulum to swing
- 57:03back and we may have reached Peak woke up.
- 57:07Is that the normies are waking up to it?
- 57:10As you said, the people started to notice people who don't
- 57:14normally, follow all this movie stuff and pop culture stuff.
- 57:18We're going. What the heck just happened at
- 57:21the Oscars? You know?
- 57:24And and and what are they talking about with these
- 57:26criteria for for movies to be considered for an Oscar?
- 57:32Yeah. And all that sort of thing
- 57:34that's been, you know, Oscars. So woke that's come out in the
- 57:37last couple of years. I think that's I think that
- 57:39people who don't normally read variety, right?
- 57:44Like the the trade mag for Hollywood or whatever or aren't,
- 57:49you know, focused in on Pop Culture and assert type of He's
- 57:53our comic books or video games or whatever like we tend to be,
- 57:58but the people who normally just, you know, you want to go
- 58:01see a movie this weekend. Yeah.
- 58:02What's playing. And they go pick one.
- 58:07That's about it. That's about all the preparation
- 58:09that they need. You know, they don't they don't
- 58:11watch to see when it's coming out.
- 58:12They don't want you know they don't want to they don't want
- 58:14avidly. Wait for the trailers to hit
- 58:16YouTube? Those are the people.
- 58:19I think we're starting to notice and that's dangerous for the
- 58:22whoa. Woke.
- 58:23Because that's a that that brings a lot of people who
- 58:28suddenly turn around and notice them.
- 58:31Well, the the other thing to add a few normally friends of mine
- 58:36actually pointed. The point of the sound made this
- 58:39observation, you know, one of them went and saw the new
- 58:48Uncharted movie, which I'm told by them, is Not that good but
- 58:55they they go. I paid $20 a ticket.
- 59:00I paid $40 for this, right? And it's like, it's like yeah.
- 59:05I mean part of the thing is and I understand with the, you know,
- 59:11with the unspecified virus of Unknown Origin, that, you know,
- 59:15I understand the theaters are struggling and I understand,
- 59:19okay, you know, you have to adjust ticket prices for that
- 59:22foot. It's still I mean with the way
- 59:25things are going especially right now I mean 40 you know
- 59:30forty dollars you have to make that stretch out and if you know
- 59:35and if the movies aren't that good people are not going to.
- 59:39People already weren't really going going to the theater, all
- 59:43that much. I mean, it's rare that all go to
- 59:49the theater to see, maybe I'd rather.
- 59:50I'd rather you know, stay home and watch.
- 59:53Netflix or YouTube or Amazon run just see what streaming there
- 59:59and there's an age cohort that adopted those things, right?
- 1:00:06And then starting around the boot the the late general you
- 1:00:11know, the older gen-xers and the Boomers and up they have an
- 1:00:17adopted that those Technologies. They they have they would have
- 1:00:21trouble dealing with. with, I have a smart TV with streaming
- 1:00:25services on it, not cable channels, and they are But more
- 1:00:34and more of them are starting to realize this stuff's going away.
- 1:00:37We need to get, we need to, we need to get used to this.
- 1:00:40Like we need to get rid of our landline phone and get a
- 1:00:42smartphone and that that of that evolution is migrating up into
- 1:00:48older older generations. And that's the other thing
- 1:00:51that's dangerous for them because they could, they could
- 1:00:54expect to wait until the people who think they're full of that.
- 1:00:57You know, they're crazy bug. Crazy as a bag.
- 1:01:01Give bag of rabid rats to die off.
- 1:01:05And then they would have the, you know, then they would just
- 1:01:07have the people they indoctrinated left.
- 1:01:10But I don't know that they're going to have the time.
- 1:01:13I think they're waking too many people up too quickly.
- 1:01:15Yeah. They're, you know, they're kind
- 1:01:19of their kind of betting the farm on, you know, pushing
- 1:01:25Putting the woke agenda through. I mean, the other thing though,
- 1:01:29on the flip side they are starting to kind of notice.
- 1:01:32I think what you know what YouTube is doing because you
- 1:01:39know, YouTube is started to censor.
- 1:01:43No content creators to I mean I'm bear I'm buried in the
- 1:01:48algorithm. Write a lot of content creators
- 1:01:53are who want to have been 10 years ago, right?
- 1:02:01Yeah, but they they change that around and having worked in
- 1:02:06software that algorithm. I'm sure is by now, spaghetti
- 1:02:12coat. I bet.
- 1:02:14I just bet it's spaghetti code by now, which means nobody had.
- 1:02:17Google knows exactly how it works or how to fix something.
- 1:02:21That's right. Hey, being strangely, that
- 1:02:24wouldn't surprise me at all. So they occasionally, we'll tack
- 1:02:27on something that Lets them punish people they disagree
- 1:02:32with, but I think it's equally likely much of the time that
- 1:02:36that's just the algorithm hiccupping and they don't know
- 1:02:39how to fix it, if they couldn't fix it probably even if they
- 1:02:42want it to. Yeah, well it's everything on
- 1:02:46YouTube is run by. I mean it's it's kind of its own
- 1:02:51sentient thing. From what I understand, I mean,
- 1:02:55people might okay I I won't say, I know anyone who works at
- 1:03:02Google, but I, but I will say that, I know someone who knows.
- 1:03:07Someone who worked at YouTube at one point and I think the most
- 1:03:15startling thing to me at the time at least was there, there
- 1:03:19are like 30 people or some incredibly small number,
- 1:03:26actually managing YouTube itself.
- 1:03:33Yeah, a lot of its automated. Yeah me yeah.
- 1:03:36I mean for platform that has millions and millions of hours
- 1:03:40of video on it. Billions of hours of video,
- 1:03:45millions of hours, go up every day.
- 1:03:49Yeah, it's ridiculous how much there is there and how much you
- 1:03:53know II laugh about about trying to keep track of a chat with
- 1:03:57with 12,000 people to fit to 15,000 people watching the video
- 1:04:01all at the same time and can keep up with the chat.
- 1:04:04Imagine trying to keep up with form, you know, 40 million hours
- 1:04:08of video being uploaded to YouTube every day and how many
- 1:04:12hours of live streams are there. And they've got to try and
- 1:04:16monitor that and they've got to try and categorize it.
- 1:04:18I commend it all that stuff, and yeah, it's Monumental.
- 1:04:23I mean, it's just, it's ridiculous.
- 1:04:24If nothing else. It's just a ridiculous amount of
- 1:04:26computing power that's needed to do it or just falls behind. the
- 1:04:31thin and the thing about, I mean, the thing out YouTube, you
- 1:04:39know, I was kind of an entity to is, I mean, they're still, you
- 1:04:46know, glitches going on with all the time.
- 1:04:48I mean, I I mean tonight it worked.
- 1:04:53But I actually some Don and Alternate channel to my, you
- 1:04:57know, to my own channel just to see if the no notifications work
- 1:05:01and you know, half the time I end up having to post you know
- 1:05:05the link and gilded because otherwise no one ever sees you
- 1:05:11know streaming out of cage. It's only thing like like, yeah,
- 1:05:1550% seems to be about what most people assess their notification
- 1:05:20rate to be half of the live streams that they subscribe to.
- 1:05:25Yeah, gives them a notification in half don't Yeah, and that's
- 1:05:30it that is a glitch that that unless that's, you know,
- 1:05:33essentially Shadow Banning a form of Shadow Banning.
- 1:05:36That's probably just a glitch but good luck to them to find
- 1:05:39it, I don't. Yeah, I mean Shadow man, I know
- 1:05:45Shadow Banning on Twitter is definitely a thing because, you
- 1:05:50know, I've divided stream live streams, get it on YouTube, live
- 1:05:54streams can be shadowed and what happens is if you go to that
- 1:05:58channel and say and look for the future occurring livestreams,
- 1:06:02it'll show you that. There's a live stream right now
- 1:06:05but it will not be in your it will not show up as live in your
- 1:06:08subscription list and it will not show up as live on on your
- 1:06:12dashboard or Elsa's dashboard. You have no that you have to
- 1:06:18know there's a live stream and how to find the link.
- 1:06:21Yeah, that price. That happens to happens my
- 1:06:25channel. I well, that even happened with
- 1:06:28with like drunk threepio, you know, just earlier today I
- 1:06:34clicked on his channel is because I saw that you know,
- 1:06:38there were new videos, you know, in the what a blue icon and I
- 1:06:43saw he's actually streaming right now that's You know, it
- 1:06:49isn't that interesting? Yeah.
- 1:06:53Like I said that could be a shadow band that could just be
- 1:06:56another glitch. Yeah, I mean that's the thing.
- 1:06:58I suspect that there, that the algorithm whatever it's in
- 1:07:04charge of is starting to get a little creaky because I'm seeing
- 1:07:08some weird behaviors from YouTube that don't really That
- 1:07:13don't really make a lot of sense.
- 1:07:15They're not really consistent repeatable.
- 1:07:18They just stuff happens. Yeah, and that's yeah, I even
- 1:07:28I've even been getting, like, weird recommendations for things
- 1:07:31that I'm not interested in. You know, I know there's, I know
- 1:07:35there's the theory that, you know, your phone wasn't to you.
- 1:07:39And then that's how you get, like add recommendations.
- 1:07:42But I have to tell you like, okay, so I am one of those
- 1:07:46people that pays for YouTube, I guess it's called premium, it
- 1:07:53used to be called YouTube red, but mainly, so I can Round pie
- 1:07:58things on my phone but you know, so I don't get, I don't get ads
- 1:08:06but what I will, but what I will get our recommendations for like
- 1:08:09things that I'm not really interested in like I've even
- 1:08:13searched for furniture or anything at all this year.
- 1:08:20And yet I got I got like a recommendation for some crafts.
- 1:08:27Then, you know Channel, like for some woodworking channel, in my
- 1:08:32fear, tala, talented guy. It was, it was, it was worth
- 1:08:37watching and make a table, but it wasn't it.
- 1:08:41I'm like, this is bizarre. How is this popping up in my
- 1:08:47feed? So I don't know.
- 1:08:50And that those recommendations, those are, those are actually
- 1:08:53pretty. I mean, I think if you asked
- 1:08:56Different YouTubers, how the recommendations are calculated.
- 1:09:00The give you six different answers?
- 1:09:01Yeah well I mean you know on the one hand it's an you know it's
- 1:09:07weird on the other hand I mean that that is kind of how I found
- 1:09:11you got. You guys.
- 1:09:13I mean I wasn't like I wasn't really even like I said I wasn't
- 1:09:16even really searching for, you know anything.
- 1:09:21I all I I think all I searched for was like Was like Star Wars.
- 1:09:27I can't remember what I was initially, I can't remember why
- 1:09:30I was initially searching for Star Wars.
- 1:09:33But amazing, I found drinkers, you know, review of The Last
- 1:09:37Jedi or something like that. And You know and then I got
- 1:09:43sucked into this whole corner of the internet.
- 1:09:46So yep. Yeah, right.
- 1:09:50That's that's the at least with the pop culture stuff.
- 1:09:52I think searching for somebody's take on the new Doctor Who then
- 1:09:59the Star Wars sequels. The new Star Trek, you know,
- 1:10:05series whatever. Whichever one you want a name.
- 1:10:08I don't want any many of them and and One of the guys like
- 1:10:13Doug Gary, Gary for a while was was, was absolutely owned all
- 1:10:17the searches for Doctor Who and you know, and then and critical
- 1:10:23Drinker was was hammering on the Disney sequels.
- 1:10:27So he got up probably like, you. He got a whole bunch of people
- 1:10:30who found him, because he was ranting about the Disney
- 1:10:33sequels, they Disney lucasfilm sequels.
- 1:10:37But that that changes, that that involves You know, it becomes a
- 1:10:43different topic I've you know, just the the topic of the day
- 1:10:47and there's the topic of the week.
- 1:10:49There's rarely a topic of the month so you can get a lot of
- 1:10:53people. You can get an influx of people
- 1:10:55who find you because you're talking about something going on
- 1:10:59that's not going to last. So eventually it falls back to
- 1:11:03Word of Mouth. You know, mentions shoutouts,
- 1:11:09things like that. Just start spreading spreading
- 1:11:12word around the fandom, but yeah.
- 1:11:16Finding the channels in this sort of YouTube, space can be a
- 1:11:20challenge. Oh yeah.
- 1:11:24Definitely. Yeah.
- 1:11:25I mean Heck, if okay, hadn't. I mean I had been in this
- 1:11:33community, I mean I've been in this community for two years
- 1:11:37now, but if a demand for Eric, a mentioning in my, in my old
- 1:11:45Discord server that, you know, the fell ball was live after
- 1:11:52Friday night tights. I would have never found out
- 1:11:55about, you know, Hammer any of those guys.
- 1:12:02Right. So yeah I'm and and it's just
- 1:12:08the the system are doing shout outs and passing the word, and
- 1:12:12posting up links in places like a Discord.
- 1:12:14This is why I'm, that's why I'm in the disc.
- 1:12:16That's why I'm in Discord. It's where I'm now getting onto
- 1:12:19gilded into different servers and gilded, it's because of
- 1:12:22that. It's you see?
- 1:12:24See you start to see more types of shows and look, who's doing a
- 1:12:28live stream when. And I'm not relying on, I'm
- 1:12:31trying not to rely on notifications anymore to find
- 1:12:34the live streams that that I need to.
- 1:12:36I would like to get to to help out with branching because I
- 1:12:39can't rely on the notification. So I am constantly scanning, you
- 1:12:43know, Twitter mines, Discord, and gilded looking for people
- 1:12:49posting up. Going to be going live, okay,
- 1:12:52I'll be there. Then I'll make ya if I have to
- 1:12:56mine is that mind is actually pretty good as far as social
- 1:13:04networks go. Yeah, it's not bad, it's it
- 1:13:07doesn't have a lot of traction. No, that's that's its bait.
- 1:13:12That's as big Achilles heel right now.
- 1:13:15Is it doesn't have a lot of traction.
- 1:13:17I mean, I got on Twitter and I had more followers on Twitter in
- 1:13:2024 hours than I've had in months.
- 1:13:23Once on mines? Yeah, well I mean I was I mean.
- 1:13:39Bad. You just, you could just
- 1:13:44comment. Starting to robot tag individual
- 1:13:52people. Uh-oh.
- 1:13:59System might be starting to go edge or something.
- 1:14:05And I am I coming in clear now. It's better now.
- 1:14:08Yes. Okay.
- 1:14:12Okay. I like I said this thing gets
- 1:14:16finicky at times, but Okay. Yeah.
- 1:14:21But like I was saying, back in the early days of Twitter was
- 1:14:24pretty, you know, when it was a free-for-all, it was pretty
- 1:14:28good. But then once they started kind
- 1:14:30of Tamp down around 2016 that was that was when things really
- 1:14:39started to change. Yes.
- 1:14:43In terms of, you know, not and now, like I said, barely anyone
- 1:14:50sees my tweets unless, you know, I mentioned them directly or
- 1:14:55anything like that, right? So, Well anyway so other than
- 1:15:05modding, do you do any consecration yourself or any
- 1:15:09thing like no no I guessed on you know on the the odd stream
- 1:15:14here and there I'm a regular on the IMF or I'm not I would like
- 1:15:19to do a mixture of live streams and videos and right now I can't
- 1:15:22really run a live stream because of the my might be unreliability
- 1:15:27of my internet. I mean if my if If my internet
- 1:15:30went out while I was uploading a video, I did it, I wouldn't lose
- 1:15:33the video, you know, but it looks pretty pretty
- 1:15:37unprofessional and kind of cheesy to beat you for trying to
- 1:15:39run a live stream and all of a sudden drop out because my
- 1:15:42internet service provider you know, screwed up.
- 1:15:45So I haven't yet and I really haven't found the stuff I want
- 1:15:49to, I would like to focus on. I've got a couple of ideas.
- 1:15:52I'm trying to figure out whether Ike how I can make them work as
- 1:15:57topics without getting, you know, instantly.
- 1:15:59Copyrights. Struck, we're talking about
- 1:16:03things people haven't been able to watch since the late 1980s
- 1:16:07and and and I've not been on television or anywhere, since
- 1:16:11then occasionally you'll see one in its entirety and you too.
- 1:16:15But I'm talking about the fully animated cartoons like Looney
- 1:16:19Tunes, from Warner Brothers, and the cartoons characters created
- 1:16:23by MGM. But I don't know what I can,
- 1:16:27what I can and can't get away with in trying.
- 1:16:29To present and make points about a particular cartoon, or the
- 1:16:35style of Animation, you know, style of drawing, by the
- 1:16:38different directors is recognizable.
- 1:16:41That's bed. Be part of any presentation on
- 1:16:44famous cartoon directors. Just don't know how to make it
- 1:16:46work without getting copyright struck and thrown out of YouTube
- 1:16:49and you know in the matter of two or three weeks.
- 1:16:52Well it's oh well what's weird is like you know the even like
- 1:16:57the whole reaction thing. Like I tried doing like Trailer
- 1:17:00reactions because those are pretty big right now and you
- 1:17:06would think you know, doing those, you know, with picture
- 1:17:11and picture and you know, it's transformative. you know, you
- 1:17:18would, you would think that that would work, but Even something I
- 1:17:24I still got material. That was You know, struck down
- 1:17:29immediately. I mean I right Ivan did a stream
- 1:17:32like a few months ago where I where I reacted to, you know,
- 1:17:37like old commercials from the 90s.
- 1:17:39And I think like one of the commercials have like some song
- 1:17:44that was like, the just like five seconds of a pop song or
- 1:17:49whatever. I it got the entire stream.
- 1:17:53Take him down because God forbid, five seconds of you know
- 1:18:01Tupac or something like that. Right.
- 1:18:04That yeah that I do know is the worst is any music that's under
- 1:18:08copyright is deadly. Literally seconds worth of it
- 1:18:13can get your stream canceled, your a claim made.
- 1:18:19We're you know, or worse, yet a strike and I don't know enough.
- 1:18:23About it yet. I'm still talking with content
- 1:18:26creators. I'm still learning about things
- 1:18:28about streaming art. I know nothing about any other
- 1:18:31alternatives to stream yard like this one that you use and I
- 1:18:35would like to know more before I jump in and making a commit to
- 1:18:38making a like a stream yard subscription or something like
- 1:18:41that. So I'm still learning.
- 1:18:45I'm still learning how to speak in public more effectively and
- 1:18:49present myself on, you know, as part of a stream.
- 1:18:53Mmmmm. And I figure as long as I'm
- 1:18:56working as hard as I can and I'm then I'm people who invite me on
- 1:18:59their streams aren't like you're never coming back because you
- 1:19:02sucked improving all the time. So now I mean bigger eventually
- 1:19:08I probably will I just haven't figured out when that'll be.
- 1:19:13Yeah. I mean you've been a great guest
- 1:19:15other than a few trolls and you know chat here you've been
- 1:19:18pretty entertaining for the most Heart, but we, you know, we
- 1:19:24love, we love our Trolls. But, you know, yeah, this this
- 1:19:33whole thing is, you know, I remember, I remember back when
- 1:19:37YouTube was just uploading, you know, cat videos and at one, at
- 1:19:43one point, like back in the very early days of YouTube.
- 1:19:47I mean, there was some risque stop, it wasn't like it is now,
- 1:19:51Or right, you know where Google just runs everything it was more
- 1:19:58or less like a free-for-all yeah you know.
- 1:20:03Now I'm I'm only 830 sub but I sometimes have to wonder if
- 1:20:10they'll if they'll Cami before I make it to 1000 just because you
- 1:20:15know, Either that, or if the if you've if you've angered the
- 1:20:20gods the Google gods were sufficiently, they just won't
- 1:20:24approve monetization that that'll product.
- 1:20:27That'll probably be the case, more honest because I do tend to
- 1:20:32swear, you know pretty regularly on on stream.
- 1:20:38Well if you make sure to mark your streams as you know mature
- 1:20:42audience type thing. Yeah I think that's less of an
- 1:20:45issue that the the Really hypocritical part of it is, you
- 1:20:48know, the CEO of YouTube, got a, an award for freedom of
- 1:20:56expression, imported, freedom of expression.
- 1:20:58Yeah, right. You say the wrong thing on
- 1:21:02YouTube, your Stream disappears, sometimes your whole Channel
- 1:21:05disappears. Yeah, so yeah, I I got ya.
- 1:21:10I got a stream taken down because I played a project
- 1:21:17Veritas clip that had been going around during the pandemic.
- 1:21:23The weird. The weird thing was the video
- 1:21:26itself. Is store on YouTube.
- 1:21:30But anything that any stream that played it got taken down
- 1:21:35immediately. All right.
- 1:21:38So yeah. I don't know how they have that
- 1:21:43works. I really don't.
- 1:21:45Yeah, but that's the thing. It's it's very arbitrary and
- 1:21:49part of what concerns me is. It's getting worse.
- 1:21:52I mean, I do, you know, I Model A lot of streams.
- 1:21:56I'm in some backstage has And on some live streams.
- 1:21:59I talk with people who've been doing this for a while and yeah,
- 1:22:03the arbitrary enforcement of ill-defined terms of service
- 1:22:11he's getting work and has been about.
- 1:22:14Yeah, I think since 2016 is probably an accurate assessment
- 1:22:20although I haven't been on YouTube since 2016.
- 1:22:25Yeah. Well now though then they'll And
- 1:22:28ban you from like Discord now for like off platform activity
- 1:22:33to if they don't approve that. Which you know I mean this court
- 1:22:38has a whole nother animal but yes a lot of these terms of
- 1:22:43services are so you know vague and whatnot that you know like
- 1:22:52what does off platform Behavior even mean they haven't even
- 1:22:56defined that Really right. And then, you know, I typed and
- 1:23:03I liked him been banned up to scored a few times.
- 1:23:06And one of the times I got banned was for was for hate
- 1:23:10speech, but they never, but they never, they never even like side
- 1:23:16of the specific chat or e or specific post.
- 1:23:20I I made another one was for Another one I may never was for
- 1:23:28sexual harassment, have some guy.
- 1:23:30I don't I don't even know what that was.
- 1:23:34Was for. I think maybe because I said
- 1:23:40that moani was more attractive than Heller something.
- 1:23:44I don't I don't know how that would.
- 1:23:48I don't know how that would constitute sexual harassment but
- 1:23:52whatever. So yeah, it's just it's it's
- 1:23:57bizarre. Oh yeah, they can.
- 1:24:01And it's got I think it's getting worse.
- 1:24:03I think they somebody came up with the bright idea of saying,
- 1:24:07you know, Familiar terms of service, not only to long and
- 1:24:10complicated to read, we make them so vague nobody can ever
- 1:24:14call us out on claiming that they violated them and we can
- 1:24:18get rid of anybody. We want under that under those
- 1:24:21circumstances, I think that's a relatively new weaponization of
- 1:24:25terms of service. I don't think that's been around
- 1:24:27that long. Yeah, well now.
- 1:24:31Well, now, they're also figuring, you know, because the
- 1:24:34thing for a long time is, oh, well, no one reads the The terms
- 1:24:38of service, right? And you know for for a large you
- 1:24:45know, for a large chunk of the internet.
- 1:24:47That was the case. Now the terms of service are
- 1:24:50getting so weird that people actually are starting to read
- 1:24:54them and be like why, what is this?
- 1:24:58Aha. Yeah, yeah it's starting to get
- 1:25:02dangerous to just ignore them. Yeah.
- 1:25:06Next thing, you know, they'll be asking for your kidney, are, you
- 1:25:10know, exactly to use use one of those services.
- 1:25:16So yeah. All righty, sir.
- 1:25:22Well, I can't really think of any other topics.
- 1:25:25Anything you want to plug here? No, I mentioned, I mentioned on
- 1:25:30Friday nights and Emma for cocktail lounge to fun show.
- 1:25:35It's see on if it's basically a bunch of guys sitting around in
- 1:25:40a lounge drinking and shooting the shit based on what happened
- 1:25:43that week, that's generally the format, it can get loud and a
- 1:25:48little bit crazy. And sometimes funny, as the
- 1:25:51evening goes on, yeah, I can definitely attest to that stuff,
- 1:25:58but obviously, yeah, you can also find me in a whole lot of
- 1:26:01chats somewhat different sometimes with the wrench
- 1:26:04sometimes without Say hi. Always, try and say hi back.
- 1:26:07Alrighty, sir. Well, thanks for coming on.
- 1:26:09And yeah, I'll definitely try. And I'll definitely try and pop
- 1:26:14in more on the, on the cocktail. I don't always have the link to
- 1:26:17get in so those but yeah, those are always.
- 1:26:22There's always interesting conversations to drop in on at
- 1:26:26times, so yeah. Anyway, things going on sir, and
- 1:26:30thanks to you Jap for all watching and thanks to the
- 1:26:34podcast. Nerds until next time have a
