- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Brian Medore. The recreational fishery officially closes today, marking
- 0:14Speaker 2: the end of a historic season. The fishery opened back
- 0:18Speaker 2: in July under a new seven-day-a-week model for most parts
- 0:22Speaker 2: of the province. The expansion was granted following a healthy
- 0:25Speaker 2: return of cod stocks, something not seen in decades. However,
- 0:29Speaker 2: not all areas were included in the expanded season. Parts
- 0:33Speaker 2: of the west and southwest coasts were left off the
- 0:36Speaker 2: list due to ongoing concerns over low stock numbers in
- 0:39Speaker 2: that region. Ottawa says it will re-evaluate the numbers throughout
- 0:43Speaker 2: the winter ahead of next year's fishery. The executive director
- 0:48Speaker 2: of the United Way, Newfoundland Labrador, says while not a
- 0:51Speaker 2: medical emergency line, 211 can connect people with medical personnel
- 0:57Speaker 2: if required. Provided by the United Way, the service has
- 1:01Speaker 2: been present in Canada for 24 years, but it wasn't
- 1:04Speaker 2: introduced in this province until 2020. It's a referral service
- 1:09Speaker 2: that connects people to a variety of community, social, and
- 1:12Speaker 2: government supports, including things like food banks. Spokesperson Lisa Fifield
- 1:18Speaker 2: says it is not an emergency line. So we could
- 1:21Speaker 2: keep them online and connect them directly with, say, Mental
- 1:25Speaker 2: Health Association or the Mental Health.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:31Speaker 2: A man faces several charges after a property in the
- 1:34Speaker 2: West End of St. John's was damaged at daybreak yesterday.
- 1:37Speaker 2: RNC located a 27-year-old who matched the description provided to

- 1:49Speaker 2: with violence against an intimate partner after an incident in
- 1:52Speaker 2: the West End of St. John's. It happened just before
- 1:54Speaker 2: the lunch hour yesterday. Officers arrested the 63-year-old, also charging
- 1:59Speaker 2: him with property damage. He was taken to the lockup.
- 2:04Speaker 2: The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent investigators to
- 2:08Speaker 2: a crash site southeast of Montreal after a helicopter came
- 2:12Speaker 2: down yesterday afternoon. According to provincial police, four people died.
- 2:17Speaker 2: The aircraft was on fire when emergency crews arrived. The
- 2:21Speaker 2: bodies of the four occupants later declared dead at the scene.
- 2:26Speaker 2: The Newfoundland Regiment scored early and often to blow out
- 2:29Speaker 2: the Halifax Moosehead 6-0 in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey
- 2:33Speaker 2: League at the Mary Brown Centre last night. They led
- 2:36Speaker 2: 4-0 after the first and 5-0 after the second, outshooting
- 2:40Speaker 2: the visitors 27-25. Matthew Frost and Alexis Michaud each scored
- 2:46Speaker 2: twice for the winners. while Newfoundlander Ben Vitch and Tyson
- 2:49Speaker 2: Gauguin added singles. Goaltender Antoine Proulx stopped everything the Mooseheads
- 2:55Speaker 2: threw at him. The Newfoundland Regiment plays its third consecutive
- 2:59Speaker 2: series at home next weekend. The weather in the spring
- 3:04Speaker 2: and summer this year was challenging for farmers. You wouldn't
- 3:07Speaker 2: say it, though, from the crops that have been harvested
- 3:09Speaker 2: at Lester's Farm Market. Co-owner Chris Lester describes this year
- 3:14Speaker 2: as a real head-scratcher. saying it was a challenge right
- 3:17Speaker 2: from the start. In spite of that, some of his
- 3:19Speaker 2: crops doing really well.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's probably our best year we've ever had on potatoes. Pumpkins,
- 3:25Speaker 1: they're late ripening, but also a very, very good year
- 3:30Speaker 1: on pumpkins as well.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Lester states that there's a sea of orange out at
- 3:34Speaker 2: their site, currently between 12,000 and 14,000 pumpkins on display.
- 3:39Speaker 1: We are consumed by pumpkins for it seems like the
- 3:42Speaker 1: whole month of September. Stepping up, whether it's laying out
- 3:46Speaker 1: the pumpkins in various displays or the different hay bale
- 3:49Speaker 1: art we put out there. It definitely rules our world.
- 3:54Speaker 1: The other day we were coming down the road with
- 3:56Speaker 1: a big load of pumpkins on a trailer and blew
- 3:59Speaker 1: out a tire just like too many pumpkins. Anyway, that's
- 4:04Speaker 1: how things are these days.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Up next, your weather forecast.
