- 0:00Speaker 1: In Tragedy a true crime podcast, we discuss crimes that
- 0:04Speaker 1: may be violent in nature. At times, we may cover homicides,
- 0:08Speaker 1: missing people, and other topics that may be unsettling. Listener
- 0:12Speaker 1: discretion is advised. Welcome to Tragedy, a True crime podcast.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm Alisa and I'm Michael, and the focus for today's
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode will mostly be about Joe Dye and the big
- 0:42Speaker 1: birthday celebration that's coming up. We have a couple of
- 0:45Speaker 1: things to share about that. But before we get into that,
- 0:48Speaker 1: we do have a couple of updates on our other case,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Ian Rogers, who has been missing for almost a year
- 0:54Speaker 1: now in August twenty sixth, So we do know that
- 0:59Speaker 1: one of the local news reporters, hopefully we'll be reaching
- 1:02Speaker 1: out to Teresa coming up on the one year anniversary
- 1:05Speaker 1: and doing a story on Ian's disappearance. Who are really
- 1:08Speaker 1: excited that the media is getting involved and you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: put some more exposure on this case. And because of that,
- 1:15Speaker 1: you know, last time, remember Michael, when we talked to Teresa,
- 1:18Speaker 1: she said that she hadn't heard from Walcoala County Sheriff's
- 1:22Speaker 1: office for for a while.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That's correct, and now that the news have reached out,
- 1:25Speaker 2: she has heard from them, and so we have a
- 1:27Speaker 2: couple of updates regarding who's assigned to the case and
- 1:31Speaker 2: some clarifications on a few details.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, we had heard from Captain Sarachi several months ago
- 1:39Speaker 1: that the main point of contact for Ian's case was
- 1:43Speaker 1: Detective Wester because Detective Wester is over criminal investigations. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: so remember we had talked one night about how we thought,
- 1:50Speaker 1: well that was sort of interesting. Does that mean that
- 1:53Speaker 1: maybe there's something going on that we don't know about,
- 1:55Speaker 1: which was totally fine. This is also kind of surprising
- 1:58Speaker 1: to Teresa because she didn't know that that change had
- 2:02Speaker 1: been made, while as it turns out, that change hasn't
- 2:05Speaker 1: been made. Detective del Biato did reach out and spoke
- 2:09Speaker 1: with Teresa after the news reporter reached out to Walclla
- 2:13Speaker 1: County Sheriff's Office, and Detective del Biato did confirm with
- 2:16Speaker 1: Teresa that he is the lead and Ian's case is
- 2:20Speaker 1: still considered a missing person's case. And so you know,
- 2:24Speaker 1: if you have any information that you would like to
- 2:27Speaker 1: share with the Wacolla County Sheriff's Office that needs to
- 2:30Speaker 1: go directly to Scott Delbiato and that's going to be
- 2:33Speaker 1: s D E L b E A t O at
- 2:37Speaker 1: Walcola County Sheriff's Office dot org. So we want to
- 2:40Speaker 1: make sure that any tips that people are sharing are
- 2:42Speaker 1: getting to the correct person. So we thought that was
- 2:45Speaker 1: really really important.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Just as a point of clarity, are you saying that
- 2:49Speaker 2: originally we talked about this being a escalator to a
- 2:52Speaker 2: criminal case. Are you saying that it's not a criminal case,
- 2:55Speaker 2: that it's still being treated as a missing person case.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying, and that is
- 3:01Speaker 1: what Teresa found out earlier this week. And of course
- 3:04Speaker 1: she communicated with me right away to let me know that, yay,
- 3:07Speaker 1: she had heard from the we'll call it Counta Sheriff's Office,
- 3:10Speaker 1: which is something you know, she had been hoping for.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And that's yes, it was still a missing person's case.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So somewhere along the line, the wires got kind of
- 3:19Speaker 1: mixed up at we'll call it Canta Sheriff's Office. This
- 3:21Speaker 1: is not a criminal investigation. And so that's just the
- 3:25Speaker 1: small quick update that we have on Ian's case that
- 3:28Speaker 1: we wanted to share with everybody. And so now let's
- 3:30Speaker 1: get into our main focus for our conversation tonight, which
- 3:34Speaker 1: is the annual birthday celebration for Jody.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Right, So what we're gonna do als Well, we'll talk
- 3:40Speaker 2: to Cindy and let's go and get into it.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So before we talk about the big birthday celebration that's
- 3:57Speaker 1: coming up later this week, we do want to just
- 4:01Speaker 1: give a quick summary of Jody's case for those of
- 4:04Speaker 1: you who maybe just listen to Ian's Case. And we
- 4:07Speaker 1: covered Jody's case in the first six episodes of our podcast,
- 4:12Speaker 1: plus the one we just did last week right where
- 4:14Speaker 1: we had the geoprofiler and the forensic examiner, So we
- 4:18Speaker 1: thought we would just talk briefly about on Jodey's case
- 4:21Speaker 1: and even why we got to it for people who
- 4:23Speaker 1: maybe didn't listen to our first few episodes. So, do
- 4:26Speaker 1: you want to talk about Jody and your relationship to him,
- 4:28Speaker 1: because that's really what brought us here initially.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Jody Kilgore is one of my uncles
- 4:37Speaker 2: and this is one of those things that it actually
- 4:39Speaker 2: is one of the things that decided to get us
- 4:41Speaker 2: to kick off the podcast in the first place. And
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's been really interesting. It's been sad in a lot
- 4:47Speaker 2: of cases to kind of learn. There's a lot of
- 4:49Speaker 2: details that I think that I learned as part of
- 4:53Speaker 2: this process as we as we kind of started, you know,
- 4:55Speaker 2: digging into some of the details of the case. But
- 4:58Speaker 2: it really kind of encouraged me to really want to
- 5:01Speaker 2: do more for the family, to do more for the community.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And you know, that's why we set up this platform
- 5:07Speaker 2: to start with.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, in the beginning, we were just thinking, oh,
- 5:11Speaker 1: we'll just do a couple of episodes, we'll tell people
- 5:14Speaker 1: about his case, and it's become so much more than that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Right we are working with the family to get people
- 5:19Speaker 1: to the birthday celebration, which we'll talk about here at
- 5:22Speaker 1: the end, and it just really rallied behind the family.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So just briefly, Jody Kilgore was killed on October sixth,
- 5:34Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, in his driveway. We don't know too much
- 5:39Speaker 1: more about that because the Wacola County Sheriff's Office continues
- 5:46Speaker 1: to call this an open and active case, and despite
- 5:49Speaker 1: our requests through the Freedom of Information Act, we're not
- 5:53Speaker 1: getting any information from them. So really all we've been
- 5:56Speaker 1: able to learn have been in a couple of articles
- 5:59Speaker 1: that were in the walk call son and by talking
- 6:02Speaker 1: to you know, family members and doing records searches and
- 6:06Speaker 1: things like that.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Well, don't forget also about the community event that was
- 6:10Speaker 2: put on that I thought was actually a wealth of information.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And for anyone who hasn't listened to that episode or
- 6:16Speaker 2: any of the episodes one through six that cover this
- 6:20Speaker 2: case in a lot more detail, I highly encourage you
- 6:22Speaker 2: to take a look at that one because that is
- 6:24Speaker 2: the one and only time that we have on record
- 6:27Speaker 2: anyone from law enforcement even speaking about the case.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and that is.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Really due to the community rallying around Gladys Jodie's mom.
- 6:35Speaker 1: You know, we were putting our podcast out and continue
- 6:38Speaker 1: to on several of the Walcolla County Facebook pages, and
- 6:42Speaker 1: we got to reach out from the palle of our
- 6:43Speaker 1: Tree Theater and the person who is at that theater said, hey,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I have this recording from a few years ago and
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, Sheriff Miller was there and Captain Sarachi and
- 6:55Speaker 1: Gladys and would you guys like to have that? And
- 6:56Speaker 1: we were like yes, and so that's good, thank you
- 6:59Speaker 1: for bringing back up. That's a reminder we did learn
- 7:01Speaker 1: a lot from that. I keep calling it a town
- 7:05Speaker 1: hall event where the well called kind of sheriff's office
- 7:08Speaker 1: did speak, So that is linked in episode three. If
- 7:12Speaker 1: people really wanted to kind of look into that, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: there have been it seems to be in the community.
- 7:20Speaker 1: If you took me like maybe ten people and said
- 7:22Speaker 1: who were around at the time, because it's been eleven
- 7:24Speaker 1: years now, so there seems to be some pretty firm
- 7:28Speaker 1: thinking about a particular person who who has a high
- 7:32Speaker 1: level of involvement. A name was taken to the state
- 7:35Speaker 1: Attorney's office and at the time there wasn't enough evidence
- 7:39Speaker 1: to file charges against that person. So this case remains
- 7:44Speaker 1: open and active. There have been no arrests made, and
- 7:48Speaker 1: there may have been persons of interests and suspects and
- 7:51Speaker 1: things like that. But you know, it's you'll hear from
- 7:56Speaker 1: Cindy today and we've also heard from Robin if you
- 7:59Speaker 1: listen to her at so that Gladys, Jodie's mom, she's
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, she's getting up there and she's been taken
- 8:07Speaker 1: to the hospital a couple of times to my knowledge,
- 8:09Speaker 1: in the last few weeks. And they really, the family
- 8:12Speaker 1: really want some resolution for Gladys, and that's why we
- 8:18Speaker 1: continue to talk about this case, and particularly coming up,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you'll hear from Cindy about the importance of attending this
- 8:25Speaker 1: birthday celebration. You know, they do a birthday celebration for
- 8:28Speaker 1: Jody every year since his homicide, and then they also
- 8:34Speaker 1: do a vigil on the day of his homicide, which
- 8:37Speaker 1: is in October, and as we get closer to that,
- 8:39Speaker 1: we'll talk more about that. So if you are in
- 8:42Speaker 1: the Crawfordville, Tallahassee Soop Choppye Panacea that area, it's really
- 8:48Speaker 1: important that you listen to Cindy and even just try
- 8:52Speaker 1: to find time just to go over for ten or
- 8:53Speaker 1: fifteen minutes, meet the family and let them know that
- 8:57Speaker 1: you're still there for them. And so we'll hear from
- 8:59Speaker 1: Sindy and she'll tell us a little bit more about that.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Today we're really excited to talk to Cindy, and Cindy
- 9:17Speaker 1: is another of Jody's sisters, and today we'll be talking
- 9:21Speaker 1: specifically about the upcoming birthday celebration. We want to make
- 9:25Speaker 1: sure we have as many people present and participating in
- 9:28Speaker 1: the birthday celebration, and so we're really glad that Cindy's
- 9:31Speaker 1: here to talk that up for us and welcome Cindy
- 9:35Speaker 1: thank you, of course. And Michael's here too.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I'm also here.
- 9:38Speaker 3: You're always here.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So the birthday celebration is coming up at seven pm
- 9:43Speaker 1: on Saturday, August sixteenth, and it looks like it's in
- 9:47Speaker 1: Spring Creek, near the intersections of Spring Creek Highway and
- 9:51Speaker 1: Ben Willis Road. We did map this a little bit.
- 9:54Speaker 3: It looks like if people get to the.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Boat launch, they might have passed it. But can you
- 9:58Speaker 1: give us a little more information about where the birthday
- 10:01Speaker 1: celebration will be for people who aren't familiar with the area.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Okay, you drive all the way to Spring Creek, all
- 10:09Speaker 3: the way to the very end. It's right past the
- 10:12Speaker 3: old Spring Creek Restaurant, which is still up there, and
- 10:17Speaker 3: it will be on the right side. There's a point
- 10:21Speaker 3: where the water is and there's a piece of land
- 10:24Speaker 3: there that they always let us have the celebration there
- 10:27Speaker 3: because that's where Jodie fished at all the time. So
- 10:31Speaker 3: if you go to the restaurant, just take a right.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I mean, we'll have signs up and everything, so there's
- 10:38Speaker 3: no way you can miss it.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So you're saying if people head out is off the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Spring Creek Highway and just head south.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Yes, go straight down all the way to the water.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, that helps me a little bit because we've
- 10:51Speaker 1: been to shell Point that Springfig Highway, right, but you
- 10:55Speaker 1: turn off to go, but they're gonna just keep going towards.
- 10:58Speaker 3: The ward, keep straight yep, and then look.
- 11:00Speaker 1: For the signs. Right. I think that's really helpful. So
- 11:05Speaker 1: what do you Thays do at the birthday celebration? What
- 11:07Speaker 1: does it kind of normally look like?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Okay, we usually have a dinner. Everybody brings the covered
- 11:14Speaker 3: dish and we'll all eat and everything, and then we'll
- 11:19Speaker 3: do like a birthday cake and then we light off lanterns.
- 11:24Speaker 3: As soon as it turns dark. Well, we'll have the
- 11:26Speaker 3: lanterns to light off. It's like the Japanese lanterns. Oh yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and you put them in the water like that. No,
- 11:33Speaker 3: they go up in the air.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Oh, they're like balloom. I think I've seen this. I
- 11:37Speaker 1: guess I saw it on I don't know if it
- 11:40Speaker 1: was on Facebook or if it was in one of
- 11:42Speaker 1: the news reportings, but I did see that, so I
- 11:44Speaker 1: can picture that in my mind.
- 11:46Speaker 3: So, yeah, they're they're really neat.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That looks really interesting.
- 11:50Speaker 3: So the first year that we did on them. Actually,
- 11:53Speaker 3: when we let some of them go, they formed a
- 11:55Speaker 3: jay in the sky, which that was kind of crazy,
- 11:59Speaker 3: but that's that's how it happened. That is a little wild.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm here from.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that stuff.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Do people need to let you know they're coming, Like
- 12:07Speaker 1: do you organize like bring certain kinds of covered dishes
- 12:11Speaker 1: or just bring what works for you?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Just bring whatever you want to bring. Normally I do
- 12:17Speaker 3: a bunch of food, so if nobody else brings food,
- 12:22Speaker 3: we usually have enough. But it's nice to have extra.
- 12:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That kind of sounds like the South.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Right, that's the South, and yeah, get together.
- 12:30Speaker 2: In the South. We always like to have extra.
- 12:33Speaker 3: And I'm always counting.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I'm like how many people And he's like, why are
- 12:35Speaker 1: you counting? Just get plenty of food.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Right, That's how we do it. I've always do two
- 12:42Speaker 3: or three cockpots full of like cowboy beans, and we
- 12:47Speaker 3: usually have a chicken dip and sometimes we have seafood,
- 12:54Speaker 3: you know, like shrimp, wood shrimp or something like that.
- 12:57Speaker 3: But we always have enough for everybody, sir.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm learning that that's the matra. Doesn't matter what time
- 13:04Speaker 1: or how many people there are, there will always be
- 13:07Speaker 1: enough for everybody correct, right, like goe up at two
- 13:09Speaker 1: in the morning, but there's.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Yeah, well I'm always going to cook a bunch of
- 13:14Speaker 3: food to take down there, sir. I love that.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Can you tell us why this is important to your
- 13:19Speaker 1: family that we get as many people as we can
- 13:22Speaker 1: to the celebration.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Because it the murder hasn't been solved yet, and my
- 13:31Speaker 3: mother is eighty and she's not doing very well, and
- 13:35Speaker 3: I would just like to have everybody that can come
- 13:38Speaker 3: out there to you know, to support my mom, to
- 13:40Speaker 3: show my mom that there is still people that are
- 13:45Speaker 3: aware that this hasn't been solved and that they care
- 13:50Speaker 3: enough about her. And my mama knows everybody in Wilkolla
- 13:53Speaker 3: County and tons of surrounding counties, so we should have
- 13:58Speaker 3: a full house, you know what I mean. So I
- 14:01Speaker 3: just want everybody to come support my mom.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you for that reminder. I mean, we were
- 14:07Speaker 1: able to speak with her, maybe it was episode.
- 14:09Speaker 4: Six, actually I'm pretty sure it was episode six, and
- 14:12Speaker 4: she you know, we asked her like, what do you
- 14:15Speaker 4: need from the community, and that's exactly what she said, right.
- 14:18Speaker 4: We need to show up, we need people to be present,
- 14:20Speaker 4: we need people to remember, we need people to send
- 14:23Speaker 4: in tips. Just keep it, you know, in the forefront
- 14:27Speaker 4: as much as possible.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Right, all right, So as a quick recap, everybody, get
- 14:34Speaker 1: in your cars, get on down the Spring Creek Highway
- 14:36Speaker 1: head towards the water, and it's going to be Saturday,
- 14:40Speaker 1: August sixteenth at seven pm. And if you get to
- 14:44Speaker 1: the boat launch, she went too far and watch for
- 14:46Speaker 1: the signs. That's right. Anything else that we haven't thought
- 14:49Speaker 1: about that you would like to make sure that people
- 14:51Speaker 1: in the community are aware of. No.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I just want everybody to show up. Give my mom
- 15:01Speaker 3: some peace.
- 15:03Speaker 1: All right, Thank you so much, thank you. Despite extensive
- 15:23Speaker 1: investigations by the Wacolla County Sheriff's Office and the Florida
- 15:26Speaker 1: Department of Law Enforcement, no arrests have been made and
- 15:29Speaker 1: the case remains unsolved. It is the only unsolved homicide
- 15:33Speaker 1: in Wacolla County. Authorities continue to seek information from the
- 15:36Speaker 1: public to help solve the case. The Kilgore family has
- 15:40Speaker 1: been vocal in their pursuit of justice, keeping the case
- 15:43Speaker 1: in the public eye and urging anyone with information to
- 15:46Speaker 1: come forward. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has also
- 15:50Speaker 1: shared appeals for assistance on social media. Emphasizing the importance
- 15:54Speaker 1: of community involvement in resolving this case. If you have
- 15:58Speaker 1: any information related to Jody Kilgore's murder, please contact the
- 16:02Speaker 1: Wocala County Sheriff's Office or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
