- 1:07Hello.
- 1:08Donna J. Jodhan, LLB, ACSP, MBA: My name is Donna and welcome to my Remarkable World commentary.
- 1:16And I guess I've been forced to change the title just a wee bit.
- 1:23From bi weekly world commentary to world commentary.
- 1:28Remarkable world commentary, I should say.
- 1:31And it's all because that, you know, since I think since June,
- 1:37we have been doing podcast interviews for some very,
- 1:41very exciting, interesting and high profile people in the landscape of advocacy.
- 1:51So for this episode, my November episode, I am would like to touch
- 2:00on appropriate insurance policies.
- 2:05You know, everybody is trying to insure everybody else that is insurance agents,
- 2:15insurance companies, financial companies, you name it,
- 2:20they're out there trying to insure the population in all kinds of different
- 2:27policies, ranging from house policies, condo policies,
- 2:34fire insurance policies, loss of life policies,
- 2:39life policies, you name it.
- 2:41It's all there. But I'm always wondering if these types of
- 2:51policies are as many types of policies are Equipped?
- 2:58Or do they have the coverage to cover the needs of persons with disabilities?
- 3:08I'm not sure that I have the answer, but I can say that based on my limited
- 3:15exposure to insurances, I would like to see more umph and more,
- 3:23you know, relevance put into these policies so that the requirements of persons with
- 3:31special needs or persons with disabilities are taken into consideration.
- 3:40So maybe for a home policy or a condo policy or a life insurance policy,
- 3:47this could be considered moving forward.
- 3:53And you know, how aware are insurance agents with regard to the requirements and needs of
- 4:02persons with disabilities.
- 4:05I think we need to start pushing them a bit more,
- 4:09and they need to become more aware and more in tune with the requirements of persons with
- 4:18special needs when it comes to insurance policies.
- 4:22And the same for insurance companies.
- 4:24They need to become more aware.
- 4:27We need to be pushing them as persons with a disability,
- 4:33and we need to find ways to better protect persons with disabilities when it comes to
- 4:42insurance policies, because, you know, we're dealing with rapidly aging
- 4:47population, more and more people are becoming persons with disabilities.
- 4:52So I think it would not hurt to really start pushing this idea to both insurance agents
- 5:01and to insurance companies.
- 5:06I wonder if some type of legislation would be needed to make this happen more quickly.
- 5:13I'm not sure. So I'm going to leave it to you,
- 5:16my listeners, to let me know what you think you know.
- 5:22Write to me at Donna at them.
- 5:27I'm Donna, wishing you a great day and looking forward to seeing you again very
- 5:35soon. Take care now.
