- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 179! Lucas, last time we were at the pharmacy, but we only did a few phrases. I want to go deeper. Lucas: Great idea. Today we'll focus on buying specific medicines. Let's start with a common one: headache medicine. Luna: Ohh, I could use that after a long day. How do I say 'I want headache medicine'? Lucas: You say: Nataka dawa ya kichwa. Luna: Nataka dawa ya kichwa. Lucas: Perfect. 'Kichwa' means head, so dawa ya kichwa is medicine for the head. Luna: Right. So if I have a cold, I'd say dawa ya mafua? Lucas: Exactly. Nataka dawa ya mafua. Let's hear you try. Luna: Nataka dawa ya mafua. Lucas: Nailed it. Now, when you're at the pharmacy, you'll also need to ask the price. Say: Dawa hii ni bei gani? Luna: Dawa hii ni bei gani? Lucas: Yes. 'Dawa hii' means this medicine. 'Bei gani' is how much. Luna: So the pharmacist might answer? Maybe 'Dawa hii ni shilingi elfu tatu'? Lucas: Exactly. Three thousand shillings. You're catching on. Luna: Okay, let's practice a full scene. I walk in and say: Nataka dawa ya kichwa. Then I ask: Dawa hii ni bei gani? And if it's right, I say: Asante sana. Lucas: Perfect flow. And don't forget tafadhali, please. You can say: Dawa hii, tafadhali. Luna: Tafadhali. Right. So: Dawa hii, tafadhali. Asante sana. Lucas: You've got it. Let's do a quick review. I'll say the English, you say the Swahili. 'I want headache medicine.' Luna: Nataka dawa ya kichwa. Lucas: 'How much is this medicine?' Luna: Dawa hii ni bei gani? Lucas: 'This medicine is three thousand shillings.' Luna: Dawa hii ni shilingi elfu tatu. Lucas: Amazing.
