- 2:46Speaker 1: other podcast and the patronianscription below too. So we'll go
- 2:52Speaker 1: to Pride Month. Uh episode Hey what Pride Month? Today
- 2:58Speaker 1: we're talking about more yawie. But this is not as
- 3:04Speaker 1: smutty as last week or.
- 3:08Speaker 3: It's it is considered yawie, but honestly, it's just like romance.
- 3:13Speaker 3: It's from it's romance. It's more romance than.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Smut's romance with a sprinkle of romantic smut. Yeah, but classy.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It's it's almost it's like a it's a Japanese version
- 3:26Speaker 3: of Hallmark except there's except yes, there's smut. So anyway, Yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 3: so the mangare we're actually we're reviewing another manga this
- 3:39Speaker 3: this week. This week we're reviewing a manga called uh
- 3:42Speaker 3: Dkuboco Sugar Days, and we're also reviewing it's sequel, Bittersweet Days.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So it's a cute little b l is you know,
- 3:54Speaker 3: it's really cute. I read it and like I didn't
- 3:56Speaker 3: like honestly, like I don't really care about the smut
- 3:59Speaker 3: and the one because it doesn't this the story on
- 4:02Speaker 3: it is a lot better than the smut.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, there's not much of a it's not much of
- 4:06Speaker 1: like I said, it's it's like smut is the afterthought,
- 4:12Speaker 1: which is good because this story is sweet.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Very sweet. It's about two it's it it falls too ah.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It falls two boys who they grew up together. They've
- 4:27Speaker 3: had a close friendship together for a long time since
- 4:29Speaker 3: they were like I think they were like nine or
- 4:32Speaker 3: something when they first met, or probably younger. Yeah, and
- 4:37Speaker 3: follows the main one of the main characters that follows
- 4:42Speaker 3: you giro, excuse me if I butchered the pronunciation of
- 4:45Speaker 3: that name. Uh so, Ugrio is a he was the
- 4:50Speaker 3: definitely more of He's more masculine, definitely more. He's a
- 4:53Speaker 3: jock type. He's in his school's judo club. He's actual
- 5:00Speaker 3: he's actually short, yeah too. Like when they first met,
- 5:06Speaker 3: the two were about the same hype. But as they
- 5:07Speaker 3: got older and more mature, Yugrio didn't grow much more,
- 5:11Speaker 3: didn't grow to be that tall. But his best friend Rui,
- 5:15Speaker 3: who is all who is his love interest, grows to
- 5:18Speaker 3: be like over six feet tall.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he gets to be tall.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a tall boy. And the two so the
- 5:26Speaker 3: story starts off where like where when the two meet
- 5:30Speaker 3: there are still young children and Ruey he had fallen
- 5:34Speaker 3: into a gutter and couldn't get out. He was too small,
- 5:38Speaker 3: the gutter was too deep and he was too small
- 5:40Speaker 3: to like climb out on his own. But yug Yugiro
- 5:45Speaker 3: finds him and manages to pull him out. And the
- 5:48Speaker 3: thing is is that when Yugio first met Ruey, he
- 5:53Speaker 3: thought Rui was a girl because Rui was dressing, like
- 5:57Speaker 3: the way he dressed was kind of feminished, like kind
- 6:00Speaker 3: of feminine. Ruy is is of like mixed descent because
- 6:06Speaker 3: he comes from like French French Japanese family, so he
- 6:10Speaker 3: definitely has more takes off. It takes more from his
- 6:13Speaker 3: French French side. He has like lighter, paler features in
- 6:17Speaker 3: the colored in like the in the colored format of
- 6:21Speaker 3: the manga. I think his hair is like pink or something,
- 6:23Speaker 3: or like a very light brown.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Kind of like a pink. His hair color, yeah, it's
- 6:34Speaker 1: like a freaking I wouldn't say, I mean it looks pink,
- 6:40Speaker 1: but yeah, it kind of looks like a like a red,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like a like a reresh brown auburn.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but very pale auburn color.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 3: And then of course uh eu Ugo is more like
- 6:57Speaker 3: just like average look, which is dark hair, dark spiky hair,
- 7:02Speaker 3: and more Japanese features. And so when he first meets
- 7:07Speaker 3: when Yujito first meets Ruey, he thinks Ruey is a
- 7:13Speaker 3: girl because Rui is wearing like he's wearing his school
- 7:16Speaker 3: uniform at the time, but he's also wearing like a
- 7:19Speaker 3: little bobby pin, like a little hair clip with a
- 7:22Speaker 3: flower on it. So first instance, his first thought is
- 7:27Speaker 3: whoa this is. This is a cute little this is
- 7:29Speaker 3: a cute girl. But then like when they part ways,
- 7:33Speaker 3: they in like, he returns Rui to his parents. That's
- 7:36Speaker 3: when he learns that, oh he's a he's a boy,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and he gets really disappointed because he's like, oh, I
- 7:42Speaker 3: thought man like. He was really disappointed because he thought
- 7:44Speaker 3: he was a girl like. And he actually loved the
- 7:48Speaker 3: first sight, instantly felt fell for this little for this kid.
- 7:52Speaker 3: But it's like, oh he's a boy. So he's confused
- 7:55Speaker 3: and upset, but still the two end up becoming really
- 7:58Speaker 3: good friends. And as I get older, Ruey really grows
- 8:04Speaker 3: into himself. Yeah, like really grows into himself. And then
- 8:08Speaker 3: you got Ugito, who's about one hundred and sixty five
- 8:12Speaker 3: centimeters and uh, Ruey ends up being one hundred and
- 8:16Speaker 3: eighty six centimeters and please don't ask me how many
- 8:20Speaker 3: how how tall that is? And feet because I'm I'm American.
- 8:23Speaker 3: We use feet. We we don't go by centimeters.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I mean we use this.
- 8:27Speaker 1: We do have centimeters, but okay, give me, give me,
- 8:29Speaker 1: give me the centmeters.
- 8:31Speaker 3: So Youugito is one hundred and sixty five.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Two feet. Let's see, that would be about five foot four.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Oh he's a shortie.
- 8:45Speaker 1: He's a shorty.
- 8:46Speaker 3: He's a short king. Ruy is like six feet tall.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And what's Ruby's cinemes eight six, six foot one, six one. Oh,
- 8:56Speaker 1: he's my height, yeah six one yeah, king with a
- 9:00Speaker 1: six foot one haul king Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:07Speaker 3: So Sugar Days is more so the overall story of
- 9:13Speaker 3: Sugar Days is the two of them, like they're they're
- 9:17Speaker 3: growing into themselves, They're they're both trying to find themselves.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Ruey is definitely more like open about his personality and like,
- 9:26Speaker 3: while they don't really like openly discuss sexuality, they it's
- 9:32Speaker 3: very clear that Ruy is definitely more like he knows
- 9:35Speaker 3: what he wants, he knows like his preferences, and he
- 9:39Speaker 3: it's very clear that he has feelings for his best
- 9:42Speaker 3: friend Rio. But the thing is, you gro doesn't really
- 9:47Speaker 3: He's He's the one that's that has to really discover himself.
- 9:50Speaker 3: He's the one that's trying to discover himself, see like
- 9:53Speaker 3: figure out like, well, what does he want? What is
- 9:55Speaker 3: he like? What are his preferences? Right? Yeah, and he
- 10:00Speaker 3: he knows that he cares about his his friend Ruie,
- 10:03Speaker 3: but he it's not really clicking for him that it's
- 10:08Speaker 3: okay for them to be together, or rather it's not
- 10:11Speaker 3: really like clicking for him that like it's possible for
- 10:15Speaker 3: the two of them to be together, right, and most
- 10:19Speaker 3: of like a good chunk of the story is like
- 10:22Speaker 3: is Yujito overcoming some of his own Like I don't
- 10:26Speaker 3: want to say it's internalized homophobia because I don't really
- 10:28Speaker 3: get the vibe that there's homophobia, but it's more just
- 10:31Speaker 3: like like coming to terms with his feelings for Rui
- 10:37Speaker 3: and also accepting that, yes, that this is what he wants,
- 10:43Speaker 3: and also learning to overcome so like the way society
- 10:47Speaker 3: will see them because they can't really be out with
- 10:53Speaker 3: each other. Because think about I think in Japanese culture
- 10:56Speaker 3: is while homosexuality for the most part is accepted and
- 11:00Speaker 3: it is legal there culturally and societally speaking, it's still
- 11:06Speaker 3: in some ways taboo, right you know, I mean same
- 11:10Speaker 3: as the same can be said here in America. Like
- 11:12Speaker 3: you know, Devin and I were both openly gay men,
- 11:15Speaker 3: and while we live in an area that for the
- 11:18Speaker 3: most part is accepting, we're still have a society whether
- 11:22Speaker 3: it's like culturally speaking, being gay is still considered taboo
- 11:27Speaker 3: to an extent, both like religiously and then also like
- 11:32Speaker 3: just culturally because like you know, you see a lot
- 11:34Speaker 3: of stuff about like you know, straight people like gay
- 11:37Speaker 3: baiting each other and like you know, using like they
- 11:43Speaker 3: use like terms like as like like homosexual terms as insult,
- 11:48Speaker 3: Like they'll call each other faggot, gay or like joke
- 11:51Speaker 3: about like man, that was really gay my guy, like
- 11:53Speaker 3: as if, like they talk about it still, it still
- 11:55Speaker 3: talks about in a negative light. And you know, so
- 11:59Speaker 3: like while we're comfortable with our with us being out,
- 12:02Speaker 3: it's a lot it's definitely still a lot harder to
- 12:04Speaker 3: be out in Japan, right at least, I don't know,
- 12:10Speaker 3: maybe different may be wrong, but like at least for
- 12:13Speaker 3: the overall vibe of like the content that I've been
- 12:16Speaker 3: exposed to, because like aside from Bittersweet Day, from from
- 12:19Speaker 3: Sugar Days and Bittersweet Days, Uh, Like I've watched other
- 12:23Speaker 3: like Asian dramas, like K dramas all that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Don't get me start with soulmate.
- 12:30Speaker 3: H We just the two of us just started watching
- 12:32Speaker 3: this this Japanese drama called I think on episode four
- 12:38Speaker 3: or four or five, and let me say, let me
- 12:43Speaker 3: tell you something now, this this, this is this show
- 12:45Speaker 3: I like when I first saw when I first like
- 12:47Speaker 3: saw it on Netflix, I thought, this is kind of
- 12:48Speaker 3: giving like heated rivalry vives because the main character is
- 12:51Speaker 3: a hockey player, a Japanese hockey player, and his love
- 12:54Speaker 3: interest is a Korean boxer. I was like, oh, okay,
- 12:58Speaker 3: and then I watched the first episode. I was like, okay,
- 13:01Speaker 3: well I was wrong. I mean definitely gay, but I
- 13:05Speaker 3: was wrong about the vibes because it emotionally gutted me.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah at the first episode.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Like wow, yeah, that's still like I get the I
- 13:16Speaker 3: get the like it definitely like showcases how like Japanese
- 13:21Speaker 3: culture can be like surrounding gay people because in some
- 13:25Speaker 3: cases it's it's acceptable, but then like still if it
- 13:28Speaker 3: has the same connotations as it does here in America,
- 13:32Speaker 3: like if you're if you're not out and then you
- 13:34Speaker 3: get outed to the wrong people, it could really ruin
- 13:37Speaker 3: your life. Yeah, so and that we see that happen,
- 13:42Speaker 3: so it's so yeah, it was that that was emotionally
- 13:45Speaker 3: gutting and then this and in this series, you know,
- 13:49Speaker 3: Ruey and Yujio both have to deal with the same thing.
- 13:52Speaker 3: They both they keep they keep that part of themselves
- 13:56Speaker 3: pretty tight knit. Ujugo is the one who has to
- 13:59Speaker 3: really come like come to accept it.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and.
- 14:05Speaker 3: He also has. He also kind of deals with like
- 14:08Speaker 3: a bit of like insecurity with his height because he's
- 14:11Speaker 3: like the two of them are almost done with high
- 14:13Speaker 3: school right there. They're already almost through high school. And
- 14:18Speaker 3: Ujito is only five foot four or one hundred and
- 14:20Speaker 3: sixty five centimeters and uh, and then you have Ruey
- 14:26Speaker 3: over here, who is this like who is this Aryan?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Who's like this aryan giant?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:33Speaker 3: Right, but like that doesn't really bother. That doesn't really
- 14:37Speaker 3: bother Ruey. But like Ugito has seen multiple times throughout
- 14:40Speaker 3: the book, like throughout the book, drinking milk because ideas
- 14:44Speaker 3: like milk like helps you grow. And I think that's right.
- 14:49Speaker 3: I think there's like it's supposed to. But I don't know,
- 14:53Speaker 3: like I never really bought into that. I mean, if
- 14:56Speaker 3: that were true, because I used to drink a lot
- 14:57Speaker 3: of milk as a kid, And if that were true,
- 14:59Speaker 3: I would be like as tall or taller than my dad.
- 15:02Speaker 3: But my dad is still taller than me.
- 15:05Speaker 1: That was true, I would be taller. Yeah, I'm five
- 15:12Speaker 1: six five five, y'all. I'm tiny. I'm little. I wasn't
- 15:18Speaker 1: blessed with the genetics of.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Tall mm hmmm. Said he was blessed with it. Uh,
- 15:25Speaker 3: he was blessed to be an Irish gerbil.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Literally stubby, the whole works. Oh God, stop drinking your
- 15:35Speaker 1: cor God damn it. Wow, you're like he said it.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I didn't say I didn't say it. I didn't say
- 15:42Speaker 3: it ever.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But yeah, this story's cute. Those two slowly fall in
- 15:48Speaker 1: love and accept each other for who they are.
- 15:51Speaker 3: And yeah, and the thing is is that Ujito doesn't
- 15:54Speaker 3: realize that Ruy does have feelings for him and ye
- 15:57Speaker 3: Ugito has a long seated deep crush for Ruie, but
- 16:02Speaker 3: he doesn't know if Rui feels the same, and he
- 16:05Speaker 3: doesn't want to like come out and like say it
- 16:08Speaker 3: and risk their relationship. And also Ruy so Yujito is
- 16:12Speaker 3: completely oblivious because one thing, you know, love Ruey, but
- 16:18Speaker 3: one hundred percent faggot person may not openly Ruy may
- 16:24Speaker 3: not openly declare that he is gay or anything like that,
- 16:29Speaker 3: but it is one hundred percent obvious the way he talks,
- 16:31Speaker 3: the way and the fact that it's like, listen, let's
- 16:35Speaker 3: disregard the fact that he still wears that little hair clip.
- 16:39Speaker 3: He's the way he talks, the way he acts. One
- 16:42Speaker 3: hundred percent homosexual.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's one of those homosexuals, mean the high
- 16:46Speaker 1: school where everyone knew they were but they didn't know
- 16:49Speaker 1: they were yet or they didn't want to admit it yet.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Love that.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah. I think in Rui's cases, like he doesn't have
- 16:56Speaker 3: to admit it because it's just who he is, Like,
- 16:59Speaker 3: oh well, yeah, like he doesn't need a label because
- 17:01Speaker 3: that's just what he is. That's who he is. And
- 17:05Speaker 3: uh Ujito is the one who's just like more oblivious
- 17:11Speaker 3: really because even though like clearly sees how Ruey is,
- 17:14Speaker 3: he doesn't think Ruey feels the same way or even
- 17:17Speaker 3: likes guys that way. He. I think like in Eugito's
- 17:20Speaker 3: mind it was just more like, oh, well, he just
- 17:21Speaker 3: likes curly things.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Like, bro, my guyot your hand. When I say this,
- 17:31Speaker 1: he's a faggot and so are you.
- 17:33Speaker 3: M So the thing is is that because of Ugito's
- 17:39Speaker 3: like like his insecurities and wanting to like admit to
- 17:44Speaker 3: Ruey and how he feels, uh like, they do end
- 17:49Speaker 3: up becoming distant with each other, Like about like halfway
- 17:52Speaker 3: through the story, they become distant. Ruey thinks that Ugito
- 17:56Speaker 3: doesn't feel the same way for him, and he starts
- 17:59Speaker 3: like not really like going out with another guy, but
- 18:03Speaker 3: like he starts spending time with this other guy who's
- 18:05Speaker 3: also clearly who's also clearly gay, right, because he like,
- 18:09Speaker 3: he definitely like he's more open and honest about the
- 18:12Speaker 3: fact that he really likes Rui, and he even like
- 18:15Speaker 3: admonishes Eugito multiple times for not like not appreciating Rui's affection,
- 18:21Speaker 3: and like he's clearly trying to sweep rue right out
- 18:25Speaker 3: from under Ujito, but Jugito is so completely oblivious. So
- 18:31Speaker 3: they they just end up getting distanced from each other,
- 18:34Speaker 3: like distance each other, Like they end up getting distanced
- 18:37Speaker 3: from each other, and eventually Ugito does come to terms
- 18:41Speaker 3: with the sexuality, realizes that this Rui is the person
- 18:44Speaker 3: he wants, right, that's and it's okay, And he does
- 18:47Speaker 3: admit to uh Rui his affections and like comes pretty
- 18:52Speaker 3: much comes out to him mins the whole shebang, and
- 18:56Speaker 3: you know, that's when they finally get together. Like it
- 18:59Speaker 3: kind of comes out while they were they were supposed
- 19:02Speaker 3: to be like on like a field trip of some
- 19:03Speaker 3: kind or like they they skipped school, Yeah, and they
- 19:06Speaker 3: were they went out and about and they end up
- 19:09Speaker 3: had a had a love hotel. Oh yeah, yeah, they
- 19:13Speaker 3: end up at a love hotel and the thing is ugital.
- 19:16Speaker 3: It wasn't initially intending to like do anything like with
- 19:23Speaker 3: with Ruey, but it was everything like that happens in
- 19:27Speaker 3: this hotel. It kind of ends up unintentionally because it's
- 19:29Speaker 3: a love hotel like in Japan. Japan has hotels specifically
- 19:33Speaker 3: for couples. Yea, So like they make they make it
- 19:36Speaker 3: to where like the experience is like you know, oh,
- 19:38Speaker 3: we're supposed to be romantic. Also spice things up. There's like, fuck,
- 19:42Speaker 3: there's condoms everywhere, there's lube in the there's lube in
- 19:45Speaker 3: the dressers, and even the bathroom is designed to like
- 19:49Speaker 3: kind of make this experience more erotic because at one point,
- 19:53Speaker 3: like usual, it takes a shower, takes a shower, comes out,
- 19:56Speaker 3: He's like all right, showers open, and Ruey goes in
- 19:59Speaker 3: and Ruis in the shower usually finds a remote. He's like, oh,
- 20:03Speaker 3: let's see what's on the TV, points it at the wall,
- 20:06Speaker 3: clicks a button and the whole wall goes transparent. He
- 20:09Speaker 3: can see Ruey like yeah, like well like shot full
- 20:14Speaker 3: as full ass completely naked in the middle of in
- 20:18Speaker 3: the middle of cleaning himself and like usually it's just
- 20:23Speaker 3: over here like like so eventually like they do, like
- 20:34Speaker 3: it does lead to smut. It does lead to like
- 20:38Speaker 3: the two of them hooking up. And from here that's
- 20:41Speaker 3: like it's after this that the two of them like
- 20:44Speaker 3: are more like completely like like dive headfirst into the relationship.
- 20:48Speaker 3: They finally like the they cross that they cross that barrier, right,
- 20:52Speaker 3: and now they can't get enough of each other and
- 20:58Speaker 3: they're now like pretty much the rest of the book
- 21:01Speaker 3: is just them like like just kind of like it's
- 21:04Speaker 3: their live It's the blissful beginning of a relationship, right
- 21:08Speaker 3: honeymoon phase. They they really they really do care about
- 21:12Speaker 3: each other and they're finding every moment to have sex
- 21:15Speaker 3: with each other. It's like.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, and you know it's sweet.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Like like the end does end on a more snutty,
- 21:25Speaker 3: more smutty note, but like it's a very sweet story
- 21:28Speaker 3: and I enjoyed it. I was just like, oh, like
- 21:31Speaker 3: skip past the smut, like give me more of this
- 21:33Speaker 3: savvy bullshit. I liked it. Like that's what I liked
- 21:36Speaker 3: about the story. It was just how like these two
- 21:38Speaker 3: like it was there was a lot of like personality growth. Yeah,
- 21:42Speaker 3: and there's a lot of growth discovering, like discovering themselves,
- 21:47Speaker 3: figuring out who they want, who they want to be,
- 21:49Speaker 3: who they want to be with all right, and finally
- 21:52Speaker 3: accepting that they that what they want is to be together.
- 21:56Speaker 3: And then they get together and like, oh, it's like ooh,
- 21:59Speaker 3: it's so happy and sweet. So it's a very I'm sorry,
- 22:03Speaker 3: I'm kind of dragging it out because it's pretty short.
- 22:06Speaker 3: It's just like it's just like a little mom it's
- 22:09Speaker 3: a little manga and uh. The Kuboko Sugar Days also
- 22:14Speaker 3: has a sequel called Bittersweet Days. So Bittersweet Days takes
- 22:19Speaker 3: place like maybe about a year or so after the
- 22:21Speaker 3: events of Sugar Days. As the title excuse me, As
- 22:25Speaker 3: the title suggests, it's like very bittersweet because the thing
- 22:29Speaker 3: is is that the two of them are reaching the
- 22:31Speaker 3: end of high school and they need to figure out
- 22:34Speaker 3: what they want to do with their lives. Ruey wants
- 22:38Speaker 3: to become a designer, fashion designer, while Ujital wants to
- 22:44Speaker 3: become an architect like his father. And the thing is,
- 22:49Speaker 3: they like, the thing is Yougito assumed that the two
- 22:52Speaker 3: of them, would get would possibly like go to the
- 22:56Speaker 3: same college together, or go to a college in the
- 22:58Speaker 3: same area, and maybe he like rents an apartment together,
- 23:02Speaker 3: like and take that take that first leap and actually
- 23:06Speaker 3: like move in together right away, you know. Like Jujito
- 23:10Speaker 3: was the one who had like more of an idea
- 23:11Speaker 3: of like where it's like what direction they were going
- 23:15Speaker 3: to go.
- 23:15Speaker 2: But the thing is like so just like that.
- 23:17Speaker 3: In the last book, it was more focused on Jujito
- 23:20Speaker 3: coming to term with this his term, the term coming
- 23:22Speaker 3: to terms with his sexuality and what he wants with Ruey.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Now we're switching over to Rui because Rui is the
- 23:30Speaker 3: one who has to who is trying to make a
- 23:33Speaker 3: decision because Ruey knows what he wants and or rather
- 23:37Speaker 3: he has an idea of what he wants, but he's
- 23:40Speaker 3: not sure how to approach it or if he even
- 23:43Speaker 3: wants to do it, because if he chooses to go
- 23:47Speaker 3: the route he wants to go, it may end up him,
- 23:52Speaker 3: may result in the in both him and Yujito like
- 23:58Speaker 3: temporarily splitting up, Like they're not permanently splitting up, but
- 24:03Speaker 3: they may end up not being together throughout college. And
- 24:06Speaker 3: the reason for that is because while Eugito wants to
- 24:09Speaker 3: go to a school, an architects school, and Tokyo Ruey
- 24:15Speaker 3: wants to go to France to study, to go to
- 24:19Speaker 3: a designer school in like somewhere in France, and he
- 24:24Speaker 3: was going to go live with his grandmother because his
- 24:25Speaker 3: grandmother is from France and she had offered him a place.
- 24:31Speaker 3: She had offered him an opportunity to come live with
- 24:34Speaker 3: her while he studies design and it would be a
- 24:37Speaker 3: great opportunity because she herself is a fashion designer. So
- 24:40Speaker 3: he'd studied directly more directly under her. He would learn
- 24:43Speaker 3: a lot from her. He would go to the school there.
- 24:45Speaker 3: So at this point they would be the two of
- 24:47Speaker 3: them would be on the opposite ends of the earth,
- 24:50Speaker 3: like on the other side of the world from each other.
- 24:53Speaker 3: And eventually Rui does tell Yujito what he like, what
- 24:59Speaker 3: he he wants, and you jital Is is understandably upset
- 25:06Speaker 3: because he doesn't want to be apart from from Rui,
- 25:10Speaker 3: because he is understandably afraid that what if they just
- 25:13Speaker 3: grow apart, like they're gonna be spending like about four
- 25:16Speaker 3: years away from each other, and upwards of four years
- 25:20Speaker 3: away from each other and there it's not gonna be like, oh, well,
- 25:22Speaker 3: he's just on the other He's like he he one
- 25:25Speaker 3: of them is in Tokyo and the other one is
- 25:27Speaker 3: in Kyushoo, and like, okay, well we can just take
- 25:31Speaker 3: a train and see each other every now and then. Right, No,
- 25:34Speaker 3: Like they're literally on the opposite end of the opposite
- 25:37Speaker 3: side of the world from each other, So what are
- 25:42Speaker 3: you gonna do? So the so Ujito is when they
- 25:47Speaker 3: finally come, when Rui finally like tells Ujito what he wants,
- 25:53Speaker 3: Ujito is understandably upset, so like this causes another bit
- 25:58Speaker 3: of like this causes some tension between them, and they
- 26:01Speaker 3: do end up like uh, Yugito ends up distancing himself
- 26:06Speaker 3: from Ruie because he's upset. He just needs some time
- 26:08Speaker 3: to like process it. And unfortunately, like Ujito kind of
- 26:12Speaker 3: like let get let it, he let it get to
- 26:14Speaker 3: him a little too much because literally the last day
- 26:18Speaker 3: that uh that Rui was supposed to be in uh
- 26:21Speaker 3: in Japan. Uh, he like he's about to fly out
- 26:24Speaker 3: to France. That's when Yugital like finally like snaps out
- 26:29Speaker 3: of it and goes to him. Like Rui is already
- 26:32Speaker 3: like at the he's already at the airport. He's literally
- 26:36Speaker 3: about to fly out, and that's when Yujito shows up
- 26:40Speaker 3: and is like, I'm sorry. I like I don't like this.
- 26:43Speaker 3: I don't want you to leave. I don't want us
- 26:46Speaker 3: to be apart from each other. And I'm really scared.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Like he's like really like just kind of like kind
- 26:52Speaker 3: of completely like word vomits everything that like he feels
- 26:56Speaker 3: and and Ruey understands. But like Ugito like finally like
- 27:02Speaker 3: like he admits, like I understand, like why you want
- 27:04Speaker 3: to go, like this is like your career, your future,
- 27:07Speaker 3: and like, you know, apologize for he like apologizes for
- 27:13Speaker 3: the you know both the actra scene. I feel like
- 27:16Speaker 3: I'm not explaining it right. Let's see. Like at one point,
- 27:23Speaker 3: like while like you while like after Rui tells like sorry,
- 27:28Speaker 3: edit out that last part, Devin so while so after
- 27:32Speaker 3: Rui tells Ugito, uh like what he intends to do,
- 27:39Speaker 3: Ugito like kind of overshares tells him more about like, well,
- 27:44Speaker 3: like I thought we'd move in together, Like like I
- 27:46Speaker 3: thought maybe like we go to school in the same
- 27:48Speaker 3: city together, or maybe go to the same school or
- 27:50Speaker 3: go to the school in the same city and maybe
- 27:52Speaker 3: even move in together. And he realizes after like he
- 27:55Speaker 3: starts like when he when he said this, he was
- 27:57Speaker 3: panicking and he realized that he may have liked overdid
- 28:00Speaker 3: it by suggest like as a way to like kind
- 28:02Speaker 3: of lure read you in like kind of like tempt
- 28:06Speaker 3: him to just like, let's just move in together, right,
- 28:09Speaker 3: kind of attempt him to be like, let's stay together
- 28:13Speaker 3: and not you know, let's not do the whole French thing.
- 28:19Speaker 3: But eventually, like he apologizes and Rui does, Ruy does
- 28:27Speaker 3: reaffirm and tells him that without doubt he's going to
- 28:32Speaker 3: France for school. And it does cause some more tension
- 28:40Speaker 3: between the two of them, and eventually, like let me
- 28:47Speaker 3: see here, eventually they do work things out together and
- 28:55Speaker 3: they make a promise for the two of them to
- 28:58Speaker 3: always like talk, to always make sure that they make
- 29:03Speaker 3: sure they always talk. They stay in communication, all right.
- 29:06Speaker 3: They spend one last christ They spend one last Christmas together.
- 29:11Speaker 3: They do end up having like they spend one last
- 29:13Speaker 3: Christmas together. But the thing is is that Ujito's insecure,
- 29:17Speaker 3: like you, Juito's fears and his frustrations do come out,
- 29:20Speaker 3: and he ends up saying some things that does upset
- 29:24Speaker 3: and hurt Ruie's and hurt Rui, but Ruey reaffirms that
- 29:27Speaker 3: even if we're apart for four years, like you're the
- 29:30Speaker 3: only person I want to be with, all right, four
- 29:34Speaker 3: years is like it's gonna be tough, but it's not
- 29:37Speaker 3: the end of the world. But Jujito still feels like
- 29:44Speaker 3: he still feels afraid. He ends up walking He ends
- 29:47Speaker 3: up actually like walking away in anger and ends up
- 29:53Speaker 3: distancing himself from Rui for some time, for a short
- 29:55Speaker 3: period of time. And I'm sorry, I'm trying to just
- 29:59Speaker 3: part to them, look for like they're this causes that
- 30:04Speaker 3: little their little fight and well not a little fight.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Their fight together ends up causing like like they have
- 30:10Speaker 3: a big fight. They have a fight. It's more of
- 30:13Speaker 3: like Ujuito venting his frustration than his feelings about Ruy
- 30:18Speaker 3: going to France for four years. Ruey tells him, without
- 30:21Speaker 3: a doubt, that doesn't matter if our parents try to
- 30:23Speaker 3: introduce us to new people, like you're the only one
- 30:26Speaker 3: I ever want to be with, but still for you,
- 30:30Speaker 3: you know, it's not enough. And he ends up walking
- 30:32Speaker 3: away in anger and like and he ends up staying
- 30:36Speaker 3: like he keeps his distance from Ruie for pretty much
- 30:39Speaker 3: the rest of the school year. Uh, he like ends
- 30:42Speaker 3: up like kind of burning bridges with some people, and
- 30:47Speaker 3: uh the time for the time for Rui to leave,
- 30:52Speaker 3: Like they're uh, you know, the school's already over and
- 30:56Speaker 3: now it's time for Ruie to start heading to has
- 30:59Speaker 3: to make the the big transition from Japan's to France.
- 31:03Speaker 3: And uh, one of one of Ugital's and Rui's mutual friends,
- 31:09Speaker 3: they like they already knew, like they some of their
- 31:11Speaker 3: friends are kind of like in the know of the
- 31:13Speaker 3: or their relationship together. And one of them confronts Jugito
- 31:20Speaker 3: and tells them and basically like gives them a good
- 31:23Speaker 3: gives them a good like talking to tells them like
- 31:27Speaker 3: pretty much telling him that like that you can't let this,
- 31:30Speaker 3: You can't just let this affect your like your relationship,
- 31:34Speaker 3: affect your what you have between the two of you,
- 31:37Speaker 3: like what's going on between the two of you. Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 3: it's a tough decision, but if you really care about him,
- 31:42Speaker 3: then you need to support him, and you can't just
- 31:44Speaker 3: let him leave without, you know, without apologizing, without reaffirming
- 31:50Speaker 3: that you do care about each other all that, and
- 31:53Speaker 3: Uguital understandably like usuital is understandably, like, well, I kind
- 31:59Speaker 3: of screwed everything up, and it's not like I can
- 32:04Speaker 3: just show up and apologize right now. And his friend
- 32:07Speaker 3: is like, yes you can and grabs him. They the
- 32:11Speaker 3: two of them get on gets on his motorcycle and
- 32:14Speaker 3: they and they floor to the airport. Ruey's already there
- 32:18Speaker 3: and he's a little sad and disappointed that Jujito didn't
- 32:20Speaker 3: show up say goodbye. But right at the last minute
- 32:23Speaker 3: before the flight they're supposed to show up on the
- 32:27Speaker 3: flight board the flight, Ugito shows up and apologizes. Uh so,
- 32:35Speaker 3: he apologizes for it just the way he the way
- 32:38Speaker 3: he acted, and for not being there for Ruie in
- 32:41Speaker 3: the last over the last few weeks leading up to
- 32:44Speaker 3: the to the move, and he should have and they
- 32:47Speaker 3: really should have. He really should have just been more
- 32:49Speaker 3: honest about him and reaffirmed that you're the only one
- 32:54Speaker 3: I want. He also only wants to be with Rui.
- 32:56Speaker 3: He doesn't want to be with anybody else. He was
- 32:58Speaker 3: just scared. He was just scared because he didn't want
- 33:03Speaker 3: them to grow apart or be apart for so long,
- 33:06Speaker 3: and even says like he even tries to convince Ruy
- 33:08Speaker 3: one last time to not go, but but Ruey stands firm,
- 33:13Speaker 3: like he accepts his apology and reaffirms that yes, like
- 33:17Speaker 3: you are the only person for me, Like we're not
- 33:20Speaker 3: gonna like I'm not gonna date anybody else, not gonna
- 33:24Speaker 3: like do anything to betray to betray you like that,
- 33:28Speaker 3: but this that I am. But I'm doing this for me,
- 33:33Speaker 3: Like this is for my future just as much as
- 33:35Speaker 3: it like for Like I'm doing this as much for
- 33:37Speaker 3: me as I'm doing for the both of us, Like
- 33:39Speaker 3: this is a great opportunity, Like this is what I
- 33:41Speaker 3: want to do with my future, and like this is
- 33:45Speaker 3: his decision, right, So he So they have a they
- 33:50Speaker 3: have a more gentler talk and and ultimately Ruey does
- 33:54Speaker 3: end up ends up leaving. He goes, he moves to
- 33:58Speaker 3: Prance and over the next so the next so like
- 34:02Speaker 3: the first half of the book was them dealing with
- 34:03Speaker 3: They're like their decision, the decisions, their decisions, and like
- 34:08Speaker 3: to start deciding what they want to do with their future.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Really wanting to go to France, uh Uguito wanting the
- 34:15Speaker 3: two of them to move in together while they're in college,
- 34:17Speaker 3: and he wants to study to be an architect. But now,
- 34:21Speaker 3: like now that the decision has been made, the rest
- 34:24Speaker 3: of the book is just more about the about just
- 34:26Speaker 3: like more of like a time skip. So it kind
- 34:28Speaker 3: of like goes like a bit of like a montage
- 34:30Speaker 3: of like how the two of them spend the next
- 34:33Speaker 3: four years apart from each other. They do visit each other,
- 34:37Speaker 3: like uh Ugito actually visits uh Ujito actually visits Rui
- 34:42Speaker 3: in France several times. And you know, they they spend
- 34:49Speaker 3: time together every chance they get. They're always they're always speaking.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Ugito actually grows. He actually has a small growth spurt,
- 34:58Speaker 3: so he's no longer uh, he's no longer five foot four,
- 35:02Speaker 3: but he's like about I think he just grows like
- 35:04Speaker 3: maybe about two inches, like two or three inches, so
- 35:08Speaker 3: he's not like the short king he was, but he's
- 35:11Speaker 3: still compared to his his six foot one boyfriend. He's
- 35:15Speaker 3: still the shorty. And so the two of them do
- 35:21Speaker 3: their study, focus on their studies. Uh, And eventually Ruey
- 35:25Speaker 3: finally does come home and they move in, and the
- 35:30Speaker 3: story ends where the two of them are basically like
- 35:33Speaker 3: they find they get together, they get together, they finalize uh,
- 35:37Speaker 3: they start making their plans and decisions and like what
- 35:40Speaker 3: they want to do. Jujuito shows shows shows Ruy some
- 35:45Speaker 3: of the things he's learned from architect design, and even
- 35:48Speaker 3: shows him some plans that he was making, like some
- 35:51Speaker 3: like housing plans. Yeah, and uh, he actually is planning
- 35:57Speaker 3: on building them a house together. Like they're still like
- 36:00Speaker 3: still in school, still need to like finish school and
- 36:03Speaker 3: like get a good job as get a good architect
- 36:06Speaker 3: architect job and save up for the time being. But
- 36:10Speaker 3: eventually he wants to be able to, uh, he wants
- 36:13Speaker 3: to be able to build them a house together where
- 36:15Speaker 3: they can live. And there's still like some slight fears
- 36:21Speaker 3: that they have together for being an open couple, like
- 36:24Speaker 3: and and openly to be openly dating as a same
- 36:28Speaker 3: sex couple. But they said they're gonna work on it
- 36:31Speaker 3: together and live happily ever after.
- 36:36Speaker 1: We love a short top. We love a short top.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 3: The overall yeah, that's also like the overall dynamic of
- 36:43Speaker 3: this story is like tall bottom, short top. You know,
- 36:46Speaker 3: like the tall bottom is more effeminate, more like in
- 36:51Speaker 3: touch with their emotion and like the more obviously like
- 36:56Speaker 3: gay one, right, and then you have the short top,
- 36:59Speaker 3: who was the more masculine one. He was the jock
- 37:02Speaker 3: he was in like a he was a he was
- 37:03Speaker 3: in mixed marshal he was in like the judo club,
- 37:06Speaker 3: and uh, he's over here, the more like the one
- 37:10Speaker 3: with more like he's not really in touch with his emotions.
- 37:12Speaker 3: He's more like that he has he's more prone to
- 37:15Speaker 3: like bits of melancholy and also like kind of he
- 37:20Speaker 3: kind of gives off like you you don't love the guy,
- 37:24Speaker 3: but he kind of gives off douchey vibes from time
- 37:26Speaker 3: to time a little bit, especially like just how he
- 37:28Speaker 3: handles some things with Ruey. Yeah, but then but then
- 37:35Speaker 3: you have Ruey, who's like the gentler one of the
- 37:37Speaker 3: more one who's more in touch with his feelings, the
- 37:40Speaker 3: one who like the one who's like who's who's already
- 37:45Speaker 3: like accepted who he is as a person and didn't
- 37:49Speaker 3: really need much like didn't have to go through much
- 37:51Speaker 3: like soul searching or introspective introspection to figure out like
- 37:57Speaker 3: what he wants, like like like who he is, like
- 38:00Speaker 3: what his sexual identity is, I mean when it comes
- 38:02Speaker 3: to his career, that's the part where he had to
- 38:05Speaker 3: like he was definitely holding up, like he was definitely
- 38:07Speaker 3: working on more. Like that was a big decision and
- 38:10Speaker 3: you have to really give it. I have to really
- 38:12Speaker 3: give it to Rui. He really stuck with his guns
- 38:14Speaker 3: because you know, he knew what he wanted. He knew
- 38:16Speaker 3: he wanted to take on this opportunity to go study
- 38:20Speaker 3: under his grandmother for design and like eventually like work
- 38:24Speaker 3: his way up to being a fashion designer. You know,
- 38:28Speaker 3: So he stuck with his guns, and you know, it's
- 38:31Speaker 3: it's really admirable because like especially because like if the
- 38:34Speaker 3: two since the two of them they are, they definitely
- 38:36Speaker 3: do have a very strong relationship with each other. I mean, yeah,
- 38:40Speaker 3: they had their ups and downs, but ultimately they knew
- 38:44Speaker 3: like they wanted they still want to be together, and
- 38:46Speaker 3: they made it work. Because that's like, that's like the
- 38:48Speaker 3: staple of a strong relationship is like you make it.
- 38:51Speaker 3: You make it work all right, through thick and thin,
- 38:57Speaker 3: through thick and thin. Yeah, you make it work. And
- 39:02Speaker 3: you know you said you hold that you figure things out.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Now I'm sorry, I'm not I'm not sure where I
- 39:09Speaker 3: was going with that, but like, yeah, you figure things out.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 39:15Speaker 3: So that was Dakuboco. It was a it is a
- 39:19Speaker 3: two part series from Sugar Sugar Days to Betters Sweet Days. Yes,
- 39:24Speaker 3: it does get pretty smuty, but the story was more Honestly,
- 39:28Speaker 3: the story was more interesting than the smut.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, the story was more about two young gay
- 39:35Speaker 1: boys fall in love, young gay men fall in love,
- 39:38Speaker 1: and then the years of high school into college and
- 39:45Speaker 1: surviving that cuban and relationship afloat Yeah, and now into adulthood.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Love it love this be al maonga Yeah. Love it's so.
- 40:02Speaker 2: It was.
- 40:04Speaker 3: I enjoyed reading it, and I know de Haven enjoyed
