- 0:05Speaker 1: Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle. Is
- 0:07Speaker 1: a production of the NFL and iHeart podcast We Got Lost, Just.
- 0:15Speaker 2: We got lost, Just say.
- 0:20Speaker 3: What a begger here and we.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Hope you stay because we got lost to say, yeah
- 0:27Speaker 4: we got lost.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Just say now here's Bobby and that all right?
- 0:34Speaker 4: Welcome to the show from San Francisco, which is crazy
- 0:38Speaker 4: after being here for a couple of days leading to
- 0:41Speaker 4: the super Bowl that the super Bowl is not actually here.
- 0:44Speaker 4: It's in Santa Clara, right, But I don't know. I
- 0:46Speaker 4: don't know if I've ever been to Santa Clara. But
- 0:48Speaker 4: that's not an easy drive. It's not super quick.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I don't believe it is. I mean, when you're in
- 0:52Speaker 3: San France, Santa Clair is probably about a thirty forty
- 0:55Speaker 3: minute dry from here.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Is this familiar to you, like San Francisco growing up?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Did you ever come north?
- 1:01Speaker 3: No? I was here occasionally, but like I don't even
- 1:04Speaker 3: know what I.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Was up here for, like a family drive.
- 1:07Speaker 3: To Southern California. Like Northern California and Southern California should
- 1:12Speaker 3: be two separate states.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Is there a difference in people?
- 1:16Speaker 4: What is a person from northern California Northern California.
- 1:21Speaker 3: They're unsuspecting, they're under the radar, but they could be
- 1:25Speaker 3: a billionaire, right, you would never know. They're not trying
- 1:27Speaker 3: to flaunt their money. You go to LA and somebody's
- 1:30Speaker 3: dressed up in a three piece suit driving a range Rover,
- 1:34Speaker 3: but goes home to a cab pulled a nine hundred
- 1:37Speaker 3: square foot studio apartment. Right, so it's a facade. But
- 1:41Speaker 3: here these people just they have money, but they don't
- 1:45Speaker 3: need to flaunt it. That's what I feel like.
- 1:46Speaker 4: The main difference is giving me your quintessential Super Bowl story,
- 1:51Speaker 4: something that happened to you over the last couple of days.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I mean, I'll say I've walked more around this city
- 1:57Speaker 3: and probably got more steps in than I ever had before.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And I'm telling you some of those hills are treacherous.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I'm sweating. I changed my shirt three times yesterday just
- 2:06Speaker 3: going around to different meetings and doing the different interviews
- 2:09Speaker 3: and all that stuff. It's an awesome city. I love it,
- 2:12Speaker 3: But those hills there, you better be in shape.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's almost bigger than a hill. I think
- 2:20Speaker 4: we're underselling it, right because obviously it's not a mountain.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But I've never.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Seen a major city where the inclines are that steep.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Right, Like you've probably done the peloton where they say
- 2:32Speaker 3: take it up to twelve and you're feeling it. These
- 2:34Speaker 3: had to be twenty. Yeah, I mean it was. It
- 2:37Speaker 3: was unbelievable for.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Me being someone who lives on this in Central time zone. Obviously,
- 2:43Speaker 4: we didn't come for very long, so my body is
- 2:45Speaker 4: still on Central time, and so night two that we're here,
- 2:50Speaker 4: I go and I do this trivia game show with Barstool,
- 2:53Speaker 4: and that we.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Won our first match, so we made it to the finals.
- 2:56Speaker 4: So I didn't get out until seven thirty or so,
- 2:58Speaker 4: which again feels like nine thirty to me.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Hadn't had dinner, and I would.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Have just been good to go grab something super real
- 3:05Speaker 4: quick and go anything.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Quick, guarantee.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But the problem is is that there's just a lot
- 3:10Speaker 4: of people out here. Yeah, and everyone's like, we want
- 3:14Speaker 4: to see you, Let's go to dinner, let's have a meeting.
- 3:17Speaker 2: We hardly ever earned the same town.
- 3:18Speaker 4: So we're going to dinner at this place called Iris
- 3:23Speaker 4: or something, and we're not even gonna get there until
- 3:26Speaker 4: eight o'clock, which again I'll do the math this ten.
- 3:28Speaker 2: O'clock to my body. I'm so tired. I go to
- 3:31Speaker 2: bed at eight o'clock anyway, Central time.
- 3:33Speaker 4: So we get to this place and I'm thinking, all right,
- 3:35Speaker 4: it's not super packed, so I'm gonna grab some food quickly.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I'm gonna order quickly, and i'm gonna do the Hey, guys,
- 3:41Speaker 4: really good to see you, guys.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna go ahead and jump.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm exhaust.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I'm gonna go back because I got a long day tomorrow,
- 3:46Speaker 4: you know, doing the show, doing interviews. And as soon
- 3:49Speaker 4: as we sit down there were five people totallets table
- 3:52Speaker 4: three were already there, and they said, hey, we've already
- 3:54Speaker 4: ordered the entrees.
- 3:55Speaker 2: It's the very famous entree. And I was like great.
- 3:58Speaker 2: In my mind, I'm thinking they've already ordered, it's about
- 4:00Speaker 2: to be here.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you're fired up. This is looking thing.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yes, they know I'm tired.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So they ordered the entree and I'm like, cool, what
- 4:09Speaker 4: is They said, it's the chicken?
- 4:10Speaker 3: All right?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Would I have ordered the chicken normally?
- 4:13Speaker 3: Probably? God, probably it was the rabbi for.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Free, yes, right, so instead the chicken.
- 4:19Speaker 4: But I'll eat anything, and I'm ready to get out,
- 4:20Speaker 4: and I said, cool, why the chicken? What's so famous
- 4:24Speaker 4: it takes seventy five minutes to make, and I'm like, oh, well,
- 4:28Speaker 4: and in my mind, I'm like, that sucks. But they
- 4:30Speaker 4: have been there, so I'm thinking maybe they've been there
- 4:32Speaker 4: for a half hour.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yes, no, they say not five minutes ago.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Oh so when they said they got here early, they literally.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Literally just said down right before you and ordered the
- 4:41Speaker 4: seventy five minute chicken and they weren't bringing out any other.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Entrees until the seventy five minute chicken came.
- 4:47Speaker 4: So we sat there they didn't bring out any app appetizers.
- 4:51Speaker 2: They did, but not any entrees, so nobody could leave.
- 4:56Speaker 3: And so I'm so happy I didn't go to dinner
- 4:58Speaker 3: with you.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Because I, yeah, I told you just today, I'm gonna
- 5:00Speaker 4: text you if you want to come.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Come.
- 5:03Speaker 4: But again, it was eight Pacific, and you like, no,
- 5:06Speaker 4: I'm good man, I'm tired, and I'm like, man, I
- 5:08Speaker 4: wish I could say that, And.
- 5:09Speaker 2: So it finally came.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I didn't get back to my room until ten twenty, which, wow, didn't.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Live up didn't live up to the expectation. That couldn't
- 5:18Speaker 3: have five minutes.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It could have been a pure gold and it still
- 5:21Speaker 2: wouldn't have it couldn't.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I was so tired, right, You're just like, I'm just
- 5:25Speaker 3: so pissed off that I had to wait seventy five
- 5:27Speaker 3: minutes to eat this chicken.
- 5:28Speaker 4: It was me and then three like agents, my agent
- 5:33Speaker 4: and two other agents and Von Miller, who you know,
- 5:38Speaker 4: could falling pe for the Yeah. The funny thing about
- 5:40Speaker 4: Von Miller and I don't know him, I do now
- 5:42Speaker 4: a little bit, but we're sitting there and his guy
- 5:45Speaker 4: next to me goes, hey, you should talk to von
- 5:48Speaker 4: about being on Dancing with the Stars.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And at this point, oh, yeah, I don't know Von.
- 5:54Speaker 4: And a lot of the athletes that I know, they
- 5:57Speaker 4: had two type experience with it. They loved it or
- 6:00Speaker 4: they got kicked off so quick that they didn't have
- 6:04Speaker 4: enough of an experience to love it right.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And they didn't get enthralled in the actual process.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Of right the grind of training.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Which so I also were sitting at a table with
- 6:15Speaker 4: five dudes, and I don't want to be like.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Hey, man, did you dance? Did you like to wear sho?
- 6:18Speaker 3: You know that I won Dancing with the Stars.
- 6:20Speaker 4: So I said, I don't know, I don't really He goes, no, no, no, no,
- 6:24Speaker 4: just say something to Hi about it, and so I
- 6:26Speaker 4: didn't tell him I was on a first said hey, vun,
- 6:28Speaker 4: who is your partner on Dance with the Stars?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Man?
- 6:30Speaker 2: He lit up.
- 6:31Speaker 4: He was like it was Whitney and I said, oh yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 4: I said how was your experience? He goes, ude, was
- 6:35Speaker 4: the greatest thing ever.
- 6:37Speaker 3: And how do you do?
- 6:39Speaker 2: I think he made it pretty far?
- 6:41Speaker 5: I don't.
- 6:41Speaker 4: He made me semi finals. That's great, And so I
- 6:45Speaker 4: said what what do you like about it? And he's like,
- 6:47Speaker 4: I love the training. He goes, it was have to
- 6:49Speaker 4: won the first super Bowl. He was so happy to
- 6:51Speaker 4: talk about it. He still didn't know I was on
- 6:52Speaker 4: it yet. And one of his guys that doesn't know
- 6:56Speaker 4: me goes, Bobby, weren't you on the show?
- 6:58Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, yeah, I was on the show,
- 7:00Speaker 2: And so he said how was your process?
- 7:02Speaker 4: I said, I thought it was great, but I had
- 7:04Speaker 4: no dance experience at all, right, I went it to
- 7:06Speaker 4: it and so he's like, yeah, how far did you go?
- 7:11Speaker 2: And it was the offing where I knew he didn't win.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I didn't want to be like, why won?
- 7:17Speaker 3: But you did?
- 7:18Speaker 2: But I did. I said, well, yeah, I won my season.
- 7:21Speaker 2: He's like, why really, I say, yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 3: That probably blew his mind.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think it did a little bit because you look
- 7:26Speaker 4: at him with no dance experience, look at me and
- 7:29Speaker 4: no dance experience.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Well, how many people that is? You probably know that
- 7:31Speaker 3: even from our profession that has gone on and they're eliminated,
- 7:34Speaker 3: Like you said, round one, round two, you probably maybe
- 7:38Speaker 3: that one or two winners in the sentire lifetime, you
- 7:40Speaker 3: being one of them.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Well I did tell him. He was a little
- 7:46Speaker 2: shaken by it.
- 7:46Speaker 4: However, when we were finishing our conversation, he was like, man,
- 7:50Speaker 4: I never get to talk about this really. Yeah, he
- 7:53Speaker 4: was like, nobody hang out with everyone to talk about
- 7:55Speaker 4: dancing with the stars.
- 7:56Speaker 3: No, they want to talk about him rushing off the
- 7:59Speaker 3: killing people.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And so I think he really liked that.
- 8:01Speaker 4: But then he was smart, he said, he looked at
- 8:05Speaker 4: the phone. We finished that conversation and we start talking
- 8:07Speaker 4: about like because he I think.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Washington still has his rights.
- 8:12Speaker 4: To play next year, and he's talking about he was
- 8:14Speaker 4: feeling healthy, feeling good, and he said, man, I gotta
- 8:18Speaker 4: I gotta jump guys. I got a call or a
- 8:20Speaker 4: party or something. And I was like, man, I'm so jealous.
- 8:23Speaker 3: He knew what was exactly what was up, and he
- 8:26Speaker 3: was one of those guys that had enough clouth to
- 8:28Speaker 3: be like, hey, he for sure did bouncing, and he had.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Like four advertisers, so he had enough food and he
- 8:33Speaker 4: was going to a party where there was food too.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, where I.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Was, and I was just going back to my room.
- 8:37Speaker 3: But he was.
- 8:38Speaker 2: He was super nice. He has like a chicken farm.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah, he's really into that, right, that like his existence is.
- 8:45Speaker 3: He's always been like outside the box a little bit.
- 8:48Speaker 2: He's a country boy. He's a country boy, but TEXA
- 8:50Speaker 2: A and M and Yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Rob was the lit cowboy hat and embraces it. Chicken farm.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I said, that's what I said, chicken farm. He said, yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 4: It was kind of a science experiment we started in
- 9:00Speaker 4: college and now it's just grown.
- 9:02Speaker 2: But he was one of the chicken farm hat.
- 9:04Speaker 3: How many chickens are we talking about? Idea? Is it
- 9:07Speaker 3: one of those that they go in and they show
- 9:08Speaker 3: the videos online where they have to take some of
- 9:11Speaker 3: the take some of the flock out and like knock
- 9:13Speaker 3: him on the side of head.
- 9:14Speaker 4: He was more excited to talk about dancing and sequence
- 9:18Speaker 4: than he was the chicken farm. Really, Yeah, so I
- 9:20Speaker 4: just asked, what's up. He said, Now, we started in
- 9:23Speaker 4: college and still going. And I think when he was
- 9:26Speaker 4: doing his promotion of stuff, because when we sit down
- 9:29Speaker 4: and do these interviews during the super Bowl week, a
- 9:32Speaker 4: lot of these.
- 9:32Speaker 3: People get hired, right, Oh absolutely, and.
- 9:35Speaker 4: They'll do interviews and at the end of the interview,
- 9:38Speaker 4: you agree to ask him a question and they get
- 9:39Speaker 4: to talk about whomever.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Hired that, right, So then it's scripted too.
- 9:44Speaker 2: So I think he was out promoting his chicken farm.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He would do the interviews and then be.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Like, Hey, I don't need anybody to pay me. I'm
- 9:50Speaker 3: going to promote my own chicken farm.
- 10:02Speaker 4: If I gotta tell you you are the mayor of
- 10:04Speaker 4: this place, I don't know about that. And partially it's
- 10:07Speaker 4: because you played in the league for how many years? Fourteen,
- 10:10Speaker 4: so you have a lot of friends and a lot
- 10:13Speaker 4: of people that you played with. Also, you're a really
- 10:15Speaker 4: nice guy, You're a really warm guy, and on top
- 10:17Speaker 4: of that, you're a freaking patriot.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it helps when the patriots are The patriots are
- 10:22Speaker 3: in there, they're they're here, and there's a lot of patriots.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Like you couldn't go anywhere without people stopping you and
- 10:27Speaker 4: being like Matt Castle or just.
- 10:29Speaker 2: One guy just lived next to you and live next
- 10:31Speaker 2: to no football, no relation whatsoever.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Just know from Manhattan Beach.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Who did you see here? That was good to see
- 10:41Speaker 2: because at some point you had played with him.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we got to interview Vince Woolfork and
- 10:47Speaker 3: that was h It's always great to see him because
- 10:50Speaker 3: he was a guy in the locker room that was exceptional,
- 10:54Speaker 3: great player, but good, good teammate, fun to be around.
- 10:58Speaker 3: So I haven't seen him in quite some time, and
- 11:00Speaker 3: so to see him and then who else did I
- 11:04Speaker 3: see here? I mean there's so many different faces that
- 11:06Speaker 3: you see.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Did you see was Matt Light here?
- 11:08Speaker 3: Matt Light wasn't here. I did not get a chance
- 11:11Speaker 3: to see him.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I don't even know if he was here.
- 11:12Speaker 4: The reason I say that somebody asked I was there,
- 11:15Speaker 4: and someone said, hey, you know a really great interview.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You guys did was Matt Light. That's well that's his
- 11:19Speaker 2: Castle new one.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I love love Mattie, and I don't even know
- 11:22Speaker 3: if he's here. You know, that's the hard part was
- 11:24Speaker 3: when you're getting prepared to come to this place and
- 11:26Speaker 3: you know so many people do you shoot a text
- 11:28Speaker 3: out to every person and potentially, do I need to
- 11:32Speaker 3: go see this person this person which you want to
- 11:34Speaker 3: store everybody? Yeah, right, But you could go to every
- 11:37Speaker 3: single party and do all these different things. But it's
- 11:39Speaker 3: a lot to do in a very abbreviated period of time.
- 11:42Speaker 3: So normally I just bank on the fact that I'm
- 11:44Speaker 3: going to run into some people. Particularly over there at
- 11:46Speaker 3: Media Row.
- 11:47Speaker 4: You would just be walking through though, and people would
- 11:49Speaker 4: grab you with a with a standing microphone.
- 11:51Speaker 2: It's a camera.
- 11:53Speaker 3: That's the wildest part about Media Row is that you
- 11:56Speaker 3: you have the places that are designated to set up
- 11:59Speaker 3: for podcasts and those and the shows and all that stuff.
- 12:02Speaker 3: But as you're walking through there, anybody with a care
- 12:05Speaker 3: they've got their own phone on a stand that they'll
- 12:07Speaker 3: sit there and they'll go through a five ten minute interview.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I mean, I promoted something and told Patriot fans and
- 12:13Speaker 3: Seattle Seahawks fans to raise money for a cause that
- 12:17Speaker 3: the guy never even told me what I was raising
- 12:19Speaker 3: money for. So I was like, yeah, I mean, I'm
- 12:21Speaker 3: all for it, man, if I could help.
- 12:23Speaker 2: The kids and help the kids love the kids.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Like at one point, I was like, but what am
- 12:27Speaker 3: I promoting, Like, I have no idea, Like it could
- 12:30Speaker 3: have been something so abstract that nobody's ever heard of,
- 12:32Speaker 3: but I'll do it because I'm all about the kids.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I only saw the top of Fernando Mendoz's head.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I ran into him in the restroom. And so with
- 12:40Speaker 3: NBC coverage, we had him for a game this year,
- 12:43Speaker 3: and so I was in the room during the production meetings,
- 12:45Speaker 3: got to shake hands with a talk to him for
- 12:47Speaker 3: a little bit. Great guy. But of course I'm coming
- 12:49Speaker 3: out of the bathroom and all of a sudden there's Fernando.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I was like, hey, Fernando, and he kind of looked
- 12:53Speaker 3: at me awkwardly trying to put it together, and I said, hey,
- 12:55Speaker 3: I was with the NBC Matt Castle and I said, oh,
- 12:57Speaker 3: He's like, Matt, nice to meet you. He goes. We
- 13:00Speaker 3: talked for a second. I congratulated on my great season.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Then he hands me his punny. He says, hey, can
- 13:04Speaker 3: I get your number? He's like, I'm just gonna go
- 13:06Speaker 3: to the restroom. You can just put it down on
- 13:08Speaker 3: the on the scenc right here. And I was like, uh, yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 3: no problem.
- 13:12Speaker 2: He just gave you his phone. He gave me I unlocked.
- 13:15Speaker 3: It went to contact, I plugged in my info and
- 13:18Speaker 3: then I was like, I'm just gonna hold onto this
- 13:20Speaker 3: and give it back to him when he comes out.
- 13:22Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, he comes out awkwardly
- 13:24Speaker 3: and he had like one of his guys, a handler,
- 13:26Speaker 3: probably taking him around to the different media outlet's say's
- 13:28Speaker 3: got to talk to And he comes out and I
- 13:31Speaker 3: was gonna shake his hand. I was like, yeah, well,
- 13:33Speaker 3: maybe we'll do the little elbow bump because you just
- 13:35Speaker 3: got done going to the restroom.
- 13:36Speaker 2: But what an unassuming, nice guy.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Such a nice guy. I mean, he's honestly one of
- 13:42Speaker 3: the uh the guys that you interview that you know
- 13:45Speaker 3: he's got it all together, Like he's smart, he understands
- 13:50Speaker 3: the game, understands the position he's in. And so I'm
- 13:53Speaker 3: interested to see where he goes this year, because it's
- 13:55Speaker 3: gonna be they're gonna get a good guy that's guy's
- 13:57Speaker 3: head on his shoulders and super mature for his age.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I mean, for sure, it's Vegas, right.
- 14:02Speaker 3: You gotta think if you need a.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Quarter less they trade the pit.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Trade the pick, get draft capital, and they've got it.
- 14:08Speaker 4: But I think they probably go for the quarterback even
- 14:10Speaker 4: though they're not ready.
- 14:11Speaker 3: You know, still on contract there.
- 14:13Speaker 2: He yes, but he's not going If they get Fernando.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I imagine he goes and either plays a few games
- 14:20Speaker 4: behind Geno or it goes immediately.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Either that or they're gonna keep him there as a
- 14:24Speaker 3: mentor that's been through every part, every scenario that you
- 14:27Speaker 3: can go through as a quarterback, if he's willing to
- 14:29Speaker 3: do so and still be able to pay him, because
- 14:31Speaker 3: Fernando salary is gonna be lesbian in the first round
- 14:34Speaker 3: of the draft.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Are there quarterbacks who are good in that role of
- 14:38Speaker 4: being that mentor and some that just are terrible that
- 14:41Speaker 4: you'd never want to be that role.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I think it's the quarterbacks that have been the starters
- 14:45Speaker 3: and somebody takes over their position that they struggle with that.
- 14:49Speaker 3: And I was with Teddy bridge Water in Minnesota, and look,
- 14:55Speaker 3: I've been in both both roles at that point in
- 14:58Speaker 3: my career where I was the guy in Kansas City,
- 15:01Speaker 3: I started all sixteen games when I was in the Patriots.
- 15:06Speaker 3: But at the same time, I always appreciate somebody that
- 15:09Speaker 3: was in a backup role that you knew had your back,
- 15:11Speaker 3: that you didn't feel like was trying to always burn
- 15:15Speaker 3: back his position or do anything like that, and they
- 15:17Speaker 3: were because you spend so much time as a quarterback
- 15:20Speaker 3: group together that you want to know these guys in
- 15:22Speaker 3: the room don't have a secondary agenda and kind of
- 15:27Speaker 3: behind your back und maybe back Sabbnue are doing all that.
- 15:29Speaker 3: But I think it's the guys that lose their job
- 15:32Speaker 3: maybe midseason or something like that, that have a very
- 15:35Speaker 3: difficult time being able to adapt to that new role
- 15:39Speaker 3: and not play and have to be there to say, man,
- 15:43Speaker 3: I'm gonna make this guy the best version of himself
- 15:45Speaker 3: and try to help and teach versus still have that
- 15:48Speaker 3: competitor's edge inside of him and say no, I want
- 15:51Speaker 3: my job back. And I think those are the guys
- 15:53Speaker 3: that struggle.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Who is your backup? In New England.
- 15:57Speaker 3: In New England, so my first first year I was there,
- 16:01Speaker 3: it was I was actually third on the depth chart
- 16:03Speaker 3: because Doug Flutie was there so and he was phenomenal.
- 16:06Speaker 3: You know, he's forty one years old at that point.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It's not like he was threatened by anything I said.
- 16:10Speaker 3: He's a throwback to the nineteen eighties. Drives up in
- 16:13Speaker 3: a transam with an eagle on to the front like
- 16:16Speaker 3: would sometimes beat dozen off during meetings. It was just
- 16:19Speaker 3: that the you know, the time of life he was in.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Next year, we only had two quarterbacks on staff, myself
- 16:24Speaker 3: and Tom. And then Tom had some injury. He got
- 16:28Speaker 3: banged up against the Buffalo Bills. He had this huge
- 16:30Speaker 3: leg concusion. They didn't know if he could go, so
- 16:32Speaker 3: we had to bring somebody in. Brought in Vinie Testaverty
- 16:35Speaker 3: was to.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Beat three to the quarterback three or in.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Case I had to start. Yeah, we needed a backup quarterback.
- 16:39Speaker 3: So Bill had the relationship with him. Going back to Cleveland,
- 16:42Speaker 3: brought in Vinnie Testiverty, which is another incredible mentor wealth
- 16:46Speaker 3: of knowledge.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Did you like him?
- 16:48Speaker 3: Awesome dude, Awesome dude. And when he'd get on, like
- 16:51Speaker 3: you talk about a presence physically, this dude was sixty
- 16:55Speaker 3: five six six.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Like reached party.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Was that big dude yoked up. Still he'd get in
- 17:00Speaker 3: there and do three fifteen on swats at forty two
- 17:02Speaker 3: of years of age. But he was like this calming presence,
- 17:07Speaker 3: awesome dude. And he'd get on the I remember when
- 17:11Speaker 3: he would first get on the plane ride to go
- 17:14Speaker 3: to away trips. He'd look like a straight out gangster, right.
- 17:17Speaker 3: He lived in Jersey at the Pinky Ring on the
- 17:19Speaker 3: Kango hat. Like I was like, dude, this guy definitely
- 17:23Speaker 3: hangs out with John Gotti.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Whenever you were starting the year that Brady went down, Yeah,
- 17:29Speaker 4: who was your backup?
- 17:30Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell. Kevin O'Connell. So they drafted him that year,
- 17:34Speaker 3: I think in the second or third round, and they
- 17:36Speaker 3: probably at that point kind of like they did in
- 17:38Speaker 3: New England is they would recycle their backup snow and
- 17:40Speaker 3: they had had the number. I mean, they had Tom
- 17:43Speaker 3: Brady that they had to pay, so they weren't going
- 17:46Speaker 3: to really go out there and get a veteran guy
- 17:48Speaker 3: and put another guy on the payroll worth a significant
- 17:50Speaker 3: amount of money to impact the cap. So Rowan Davy
- 17:54Speaker 3: was there before me. They recycled him. I mean they
- 17:57Speaker 3: got rid of him after his tenure was up. And
- 17:59Speaker 3: then I was in my fourth year of my rookie contract.
- 18:02Speaker 3: So they probably were grooming Kevin to come in and
- 18:05Speaker 3: take over that backup role when he was ready.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Because they didn't have to pay him. Because they didn't
- 18:09Speaker 2: have to pay and you were on your rooie deal,
- 18:11Speaker 2: I was.
- 18:11Speaker 3: On my rookie deal and let me go to free agency.
- 18:13Speaker 3: But who the hell is gonna pick me up after
- 18:15Speaker 3: that year? Not having starts, playing sparingly, playing in some games.
- 18:21Speaker 3: The only significant time I had while Brady was a
- 18:24Speaker 3: starter was my rookie year. It was the last game
- 18:27Speaker 3: of the season against Miami where Belichick let me go
- 18:30Speaker 3: in there and play three quarters. And really, what I
- 18:32Speaker 3: think it was was an audition to see if the
- 18:34Speaker 3: following year I would be able to be that backup.
- 18:36Speaker 3: And so luckily I went out there and played well
- 18:38Speaker 3: and was able to create myself a role as a
- 18:41Speaker 3: backup quarterback. But thank god I got that opportunity, because
- 18:44Speaker 3: I don't know where or where I don't know where
- 18:47Speaker 3: my career would have gone from an NFL standpoint if
- 18:49Speaker 3: I didn't get that opportunity that year, because you know,
- 18:52Speaker 3: teams aren't looking for a guy that's never had a
- 18:54Speaker 3: start or no experience as their backup quarterback, because God forbid,
- 18:57Speaker 3: their starting quarterback goes down and somebody's got to step
- 19:00Speaker 3: into a role, and it's an uncertainty.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Who is your backup?
- 19:02Speaker 3: In Kansas City, Kansas City, Brodie Croyle and he had
- 19:06Speaker 3: been the starter there for a few years, but had
- 19:08Speaker 3: suffered some injuries. One of the most talented arms I've
- 19:11Speaker 3: ever been around. Awesome guy, super supportive. Tyler Palko was
- 19:14Speaker 3: there as well with me in Kansas City my last
- 19:17Speaker 3: year in Kansas City, but they brought in Brady Quinn,
- 19:21Speaker 3: another incredible guy, great player, could throw it, spin it.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Then I went to Minnesota to backup Christian Ponder.
- 19:30Speaker 2: You were backing up Ponder.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I was backing up and I was really a guy.
- 19:34Speaker 3: There was probably some questions about Christian because he was
- 19:38Speaker 3: a young kid that got thrown into the fire, hadn't
- 19:40Speaker 3: had a ton of success, you know. I was probably
- 19:43Speaker 3: one of the higher paid backups at the time, and
- 19:46Speaker 3: so unfortunately for Christian, he got banged up a little
- 19:49Speaker 3: bit that season. So I made probably for I probably
- 19:53Speaker 3: made five or six starts of that season just due
- 19:56Speaker 3: to injury. And then late in the year they just
- 19:58Speaker 3: had me play out the rest of the year, which
- 20:01Speaker 3: allowed me to basically option out of my contract just
- 20:06Speaker 3: to be resigned for a higher number and go back
- 20:08Speaker 3: to Minnesota, because I want to go back to Minnesota.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I really enjoyed my time there, and then I started
- 20:12Speaker 3: that next year and that's when they brought in Teddy Bridgewater,
- 20:15Speaker 3: they drafted in the first round, So I guess I
- 20:18Speaker 3: was that bridge guy. And then the bridge crumbled pretty
- 20:21Speaker 3: early because I broke my foot in Game three, which sucked,
- 20:25Speaker 3: and then I'm on ir for the rest of the season.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Then I got trade to Buffalo Dallas. Dallas trade in
- 20:30Speaker 3: the same year, Dallas trade for me once Romo went
- 20:32Speaker 3: down and Brandon Whedon was there with me as my
- 20:37Speaker 3: backup there. Romo came back somewhere late in the season,
- 20:42Speaker 3: then got it, broke his ribs again or did something
- 20:45Speaker 3: to himself. Where played out the rest of that year,
- 20:47Speaker 3: and then I went to Tennessee to back up Marcus Mariota.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Did you know since you had started and had backups before? Heck,
- 20:56Speaker 4: you had been a backup, but sure because you were
- 20:58Speaker 4: a third string guy and then you were the backup
- 21:00Speaker 4: righter Brady, right, was that like, did you know the
- 21:03Speaker 4: role of the backup on how to be a good backup?
- 21:06Speaker 3: I did?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Did you accept it?
- 21:08Speaker 3: I accepted it obviously as a backup. When you get
- 21:11Speaker 3: in that role, you don't know. When you go to
- 21:13Speaker 3: like Minnesota and you're a bridge guy and there's maybe
- 21:15Speaker 3: some uncertainty to be about the starter. There is that
- 21:19Speaker 3: possibility right away that you think, hey, at any point
- 21:22Speaker 3: I could go in and got to be ready and
- 21:23Speaker 3: all that stuff. And obviously injuries happen all the time
- 21:27Speaker 3: in the league, but in terms of being a backup
- 21:31Speaker 3: and a good teammate, that never was an issue for me,
- 21:33Speaker 3: and even some of the through the some of the
- 21:35Speaker 3: difficult adversities I went through in Kansas City when I
- 21:39Speaker 3: got hurt, Braddy Quinn went in and I had a
- 21:42Speaker 3: concussion and was out for a week. Brady played pretty well,
- 21:45Speaker 3: but there's that Okay, our team's not doing too well.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Should we start Brady at one point? And so you've
- 21:51Speaker 3: got to learn sometimes how to swallow your pride and
- 21:54Speaker 3: do what's best. And I think that that's also something
- 21:56Speaker 3: that stuck with me and how people viewed me coming
- 22:01Speaker 3: into their organization and postpone, I mean, continued my career
- 22:04Speaker 3: because they knew that I was a head, stand up character,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I'm a team guy, I'm gonna be able to help
- 22:09Speaker 3: develop and I'd seen enough football and had gosh, I
- 22:12Speaker 3: don't know how many starts I had in the NFL,
- 22:14Speaker 3: but I probably was in the seventies or something like
- 22:16Speaker 3: that in terms of starts. So I had a lot
- 22:18Speaker 3: of experience and knew how to prepare and take the
- 22:21Speaker 3: wisdom that I've learned from Tom Brady, from Vinny Testaverdi,
- 22:26Speaker 3: from all these guys throughout my career that helped these
- 22:29Speaker 3: young guys learn how to prepare and be a voice
- 22:31Speaker 3: and do what they needed to do to be successful.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Whenever Philip Rivers came back, obviously he was older, but
- 22:47Speaker 4: the joke was his insurance was about to run out,
- 22:49Speaker 4: because after five years or so, was that a big
- 22:52Speaker 4: deal for you in insurance?
- 22:53Speaker 3: Right now? Man? I got five kids? Are you kidding?
- 22:55Speaker 3: Are you kidding? We got gotta signa and look at
- 22:57Speaker 3: how much you actually got to pay for health insurance
- 23:00Speaker 3: and dental and all.
- 23:01Speaker 2: That's how many years ago did you retire at this point?
- 23:03Speaker 2: Twenty eighteen, so you've only been without NFL and charts.
- 23:08Speaker 3: For a couple of years. Yeah, And it kicks me
- 23:10Speaker 3: right and that you know what, every single time I
- 23:12Speaker 3: look at that bill and I go, man, what is
- 23:15Speaker 3: the deal? I got to get a corporate job. The
- 23:18Speaker 3: nice part is working for NBC. If you you clock
- 23:21Speaker 3: enough hours, they offer an insurance. So I have insurance
- 23:24Speaker 3: through NBC these last two seasons, and I'm like, oh,
- 23:27Speaker 3: this is great, But now who knows what's gonna happen
- 23:30Speaker 3: because my contract's up this year and we might be
- 23:32Speaker 3: moving on, so gotta go go back out there, maybe
- 23:34Speaker 3: keep on the grind.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Do you think you'll stay living in Nashville?
- 23:39Speaker 3: I do, Yeah, Yeah, We've been here since twenty sixteen.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Because you landed here because of the Titans, right, they did.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But we also committed here because of Tennessee.
- 23:48Speaker 2: So you came to the Titans.
- 23:50Speaker 3: So I went to Detroit after I was done. When
- 23:52Speaker 3: I played two years here, I went up to Detroit
- 23:54Speaker 3: to finish my career and we came right back. We
- 23:56Speaker 3: had the option to go back to California anywhere we
- 23:58Speaker 3: want to go. But it kind of the way in
- 24:02Speaker 3: which you can raise your kids, the values of people
- 24:04Speaker 3: that all stuff. It kind of slowed life down for
- 24:07Speaker 3: us a little bit, and the kids are happy in school.
- 24:08Speaker 3: So I see us for the long run being in Tennessee.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I often didn't for a while, especially when my wife
- 24:16Speaker 4: moved here, because.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I kind of had a system support system.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Of friend group, and she moved from California, which is hard.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, which is hard for her.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Was hard for her, and I thought, you know, I
- 24:30Speaker 4: could see myself at some point moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas,
- 24:34Speaker 4: and then being in Nashville a little bit, you know,
- 24:36Speaker 4: for the things I needed to do, because if Faybelle
- 24:39Speaker 4: would be like closer to Oklahoma where she's from, it's
- 24:43Speaker 4: an hour from her hometown.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Yeah, her support systems there.
- 24:45Speaker 4: Yes, at least her like family. And so I always thought,
- 24:49Speaker 4: maybe we'll move to Fatteville.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Are you telling me of us now to let me
- 24:53Speaker 3: know that we're no longer doing podcast?
- 24:54Speaker 4: No, not at all, because we bought a house in
- 24:57Speaker 4: Pantville and oh.
- 24:58Speaker 3: God, now the writings on the wall.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Wealy bought a house in Bayville. But she now does
- 25:03Speaker 4: not want she loves Nashville. Oh, and that's my point,
- 25:06Speaker 4: is like I never thought that she would be someone
- 25:08Speaker 4: who loved Nashville, only because I just dunked her in
- 25:11Speaker 4: the water as she moved here and had and for
- 25:12Speaker 4: a long time she'd have any friends. So it was
- 25:15Speaker 4: hard for her to love a place where she had
- 25:16Speaker 4: no friends. It wasn't even about the place. But now
- 25:20Speaker 4: you know, they we're about to have a kid and stuff.
- 25:21Speaker 4: She's like, I really love Nashville.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's a great place to raise a family. Bobby,
- 25:26Speaker 3: I don't know about Fayetteville, but I mean Nashville's great place.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you have a famuell has Arkansas.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I was thinking about it if I lived there, which I'm not.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, you's already such a homer.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask you the tickets to everything.
- 25:40Speaker 4: I would be going to give this volleyball for every
- 25:44Speaker 4: inner mural games, everything.
- 25:47Speaker 2: It would be the greatest kig.
- 25:49Speaker 4: But I think when you say that about Nashville being
- 25:51Speaker 4: so great, I never really felt that myself because it
- 25:54Speaker 4: never really mattered where I lived, you know, grew up
- 25:57Speaker 4: in Arkansas, worked there, but then moved to Austin.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Loved Austin.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Thought I was gonna say, I always thought you were
- 26:02Speaker 3: in Austin.
- 26:03Speaker 2: It was the best city. Really, I'm telling you.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I had finally decided because I had built my own
- 26:09Speaker 4: syndication company. I was starting to make real money that
- 26:12Speaker 4: I could make more money off of because I owned
- 26:15Speaker 4: some of what I was doing, because I bought it
- 26:17Speaker 4: all invested it, And I was like, you know, I
- 26:18Speaker 4: think I can live here and just build it out
- 26:19Speaker 4: from here.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And I'm not kidding.
- 26:21Speaker 4: When I finally had to come to terms with I think,
- 26:23Speaker 4: I'm just gonna live here. I'm not gonna go to
- 26:25Speaker 4: La or New York because that path had presented itself,
- 26:29Speaker 4: but not in ways that I felt comfortable leaving it
- 26:31Speaker 4: all behind.
- 26:32Speaker 2: So I'm going to do it all from here.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Within thirty days, the Nashville situation presented as soon as
- 26:39Speaker 4: I accepted that I was in Austin.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I'm going to stay in Austin.
- 26:42Speaker 4: It was so weird, so I was like, this is home,
- 26:44Speaker 4: and Nashville is like, broo, let's do it.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So we moved.
- 26:47Speaker 2: And I always was like, I don't like.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Nashville, mostly because all I was doing was working, so
- 26:53Speaker 4: I really didn't trust anybody in the industry because I
- 26:56Speaker 4: didn't know why they want to be my friend.
- 26:58Speaker 2: So I didn't love this city because it was all
- 27:00Speaker 2: work for me.
- 27:01Speaker 4: But now that I am able to slow it down
- 27:03Speaker 4: a little bit and my wife's able to love it,
- 27:04Speaker 4: I do like it.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I don't like winter.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Winter sucks, yeah, but it's still a mild winter comparatively speaking.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Last week was crazy or whatever it was with the
- 27:12Speaker 3: ice storm, but how often do we get that?
- 27:14Speaker 4: But it's not mild to me because I grew up
- 27:16Speaker 4: in Arkansas. It's about the same I think in California. Bro,
- 27:19Speaker 4: Oh that's true, But you lived in Minnesota, you lived
- 27:20Speaker 4: in Buffalo.
- 27:21Speaker 2: That's usually in Buffalo. That changed everything about you. San
- 27:23Speaker 2: Francisco that's winter, that's winter. It was seventy degrees.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I was sweating my ass off did I was not
- 27:29Speaker 3: adapted to that? Isn't it amazing? Though? Like how you're
- 27:34Speaker 3: gonna have the best laid out plan and you think
- 27:36Speaker 3: you're going this direction.
- 27:37Speaker 2: My plan was finally laid out, Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 3: And you're good to go, and then all of a sudden,
- 27:41Speaker 3: some presents itself and in a heartbeat, you have to
- 27:43Speaker 3: make a decision and you go, Man, I'm gonna trust
- 27:46Speaker 3: I guess my instincts. Divine intervention. Bro.
- 27:48Speaker 4: What I'm worried about now because I finally come to
- 27:51Speaker 4: terms that it's Nashville for me.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Oh, it's gonna I know.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I finally come to terms like, no, I can do this.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I can live out this career that I've always wanted.
- 28:00Speaker 4: It's just gonna be from Nashville. But like, I'm there,
- 28:03Speaker 4: so now I'm just kind of looking around.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Oh man, what big opportunity will present itself.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I say that I'm canceling out the opportunity.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Right, No, no, you're not. You speak it into existence.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Who's the let's say, biggest legend that you just saw
- 28:17Speaker 4: this weekend?
- 28:17Speaker 2: Biggest legend because I saw I saw, I saw Marcus
- 28:20Speaker 2: Allen stayed in line to get a credential.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie Bo Jackson was. Yeah. I mean,
- 28:25Speaker 3: he's just a legend of the game and his career
- 28:29Speaker 3: was short. But at the same time, growing up, I
- 28:32Speaker 3: mean he was like on par with the Michael Jordans,
- 28:36Speaker 3: bo Nos and all that famous. I had the poster,
- 28:39Speaker 3: I mean, because how cool was that ad and everything else?
- 28:44Speaker 3: We saw Dion out there. Dion's obviously one of those guys.
- 28:48Speaker 3: It's a Hall of Famer and somebody that you go
- 28:51Speaker 3: anytime you see dionni he's got that wow factor.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I had to tell you who the Boom guys were,
- 28:55Speaker 2: the Costco guys.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't know the Costco guys, But now I'm
- 28:57Speaker 3: gonna go just dive deep into the other shed and yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 3: it's them reviewing you said, it's them reviewing Costco food.
- 29:03Speaker 4: And the boom and yeah booms because they walked by
- 29:06Speaker 4: and they were like giving us dabs.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I think because people just.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Recognize them all the time, so they are outward about
- 29:12Speaker 4: just being nice to folks.
- 29:13Speaker 3: For sure.
- 29:13Speaker 2: They're so big.
- 29:14Speaker 4: They were on like I think aw wrestling, like they
- 29:17Speaker 4: were wrestling. Really they became so big on the internet,
- 29:20Speaker 4: and I'm not sure it was like Big Justice Kevin.
- 29:23Speaker 2: You don't know them, huh No, I didn't either, But
- 29:26Speaker 2: now you knew the British guy that gave the compliments.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Oh yeah with the smoking jacket.
- 29:31Speaker 2: You've never seen the guy before.
- 29:32Speaker 5: You have to a compilate to die.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, Like you walk up and he's had a
- 29:36Speaker 3: lot of these golf tournaments and stuff, and I've seen
- 29:37Speaker 3: some of his feed and it's actually hilarious because it's
- 29:40Speaker 3: this polite gentleman making very nice comments the people in
- 29:44Speaker 3: a funny manner and you laugh your ass off. I
- 29:45Speaker 3: don't know his name or anything.
- 29:47Speaker 4: And they were right by each other and I said, oh,
- 29:48Speaker 4: there's the boom guys, and Catle's like there's the compliment
- 29:52Speaker 4: guy and both.
- 29:53Speaker 2: It was like we don't know who the other person.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I don't know who you're talking about. I guess your
- 29:57Speaker 3: feed's different than.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Mine probably, although you're not on a feed much. No, No,
- 30:02Speaker 2: you're limited. You don't care about it as much. We
- 30:04Speaker 2: have five kids.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if I if I go down that
- 30:09Speaker 3: scrolling thing, yeah, it's not something that I'm really I'm captivating,
- 30:15Speaker 3: captivated by it in the moment, but I'm not one
- 30:17Speaker 3: of those searching for new content, like I'll do the
- 30:20Speaker 3: food porn thing where you go through, especially Super Bowl
- 30:22Speaker 3: Sunday coming up right.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Now, all you watch people have sex with food.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's it's something that calms my mind. You know,
- 30:29Speaker 3: whatever it takes, you know, and if you want to
- 30:32Speaker 3: like by me, go ahead. No. Yeah. The people that
- 30:34Speaker 3: are making like these incredible dishes for Super Bowl Sunday
- 30:39Speaker 3: and that I saw one the Hall of Peno poppers
- 30:42Speaker 3: are made in a different way. Yeah. I geeked out
- 30:44Speaker 3: over that. I was like, honey, and then I just
- 30:45Speaker 3: send it to my wife and said, can you make this? Oh, dushy, No,
- 30:49Speaker 3: I don't think she's going to because we're going to
- 30:51Speaker 3: Super Bowl party probably.
- 30:52Speaker 4: Oh no, I mean if you send her a recipe, well, yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 4: my wife can cook her ass off really like she's
- 30:57Speaker 4: putting them.
- 30:57Speaker 3: On the line.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Wife too. I was so surprised, But I'm.
- 31:00Speaker 3: So lucky from that standpoint because she can put she
- 31:03Speaker 3: can go into a recipe book in any of these
- 31:06Speaker 3: barefoot contesta this, that and the other, and look at
- 31:09Speaker 3: them in you and I mean, it is incredible. She's great,
- 31:13Speaker 3: that's super cool.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, well, all of your kids ever want to have
- 31:15Speaker 2: the same meal though.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Oh hell no, that's the hardest thing. Are you kidding?
- 31:20Speaker 3: You could make the best meal like that. I think,
- 31:23Speaker 3: thank thank you, honey. Blah blah blah. One kid's not
- 31:26Speaker 3: eating it, one kid says, I'm not hungry. The other
- 31:28Speaker 3: one eats it, one eats half of it. Can I
- 31:30Speaker 3: have a Can I just have a peanut butter and
- 31:33Speaker 3: jelly salwench. I was like, guys, we're not an open restaurant,
- 31:35Speaker 3: And if we have food in there from another meal
- 31:37Speaker 3: that they wanted, can we just have that? And then
- 31:39Speaker 3: sometimes you feel guilty, and you given that is setting
- 31:41Speaker 3: in presidents that you don't want because then they figure,
- 31:44Speaker 3: look if I just bag enough, Like and we were
- 31:47Speaker 3: reading this book one time and they said, look, if
- 31:50Speaker 3: your kid doesn't want to eat, just say fine, you
- 31:52Speaker 3: do this is what's being served tonight, and you can
- 31:55Speaker 3: sit here at the table and if but this is
- 31:57Speaker 3: what's dinner, and then they go to bed starving. I
- 32:00Speaker 3: was like, God, I am I can be one of
- 32:04Speaker 3: those people that it's a little bit hard at times
- 32:07Speaker 3: in that sense, but I don't want my kids going
- 32:09Speaker 3: to bed starting when they're six or seven. I was like,
- 32:13Speaker 3: that feels like it's a little ruthless.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Your old teammate won MVP mass effort.
- 32:18Speaker 3: That was awesome, man. I mean just even as an
- 32:21Speaker 3: acceptance speech, having his girls up there, and I mean
- 32:24Speaker 3: he's a girl dad and all that, but the year
- 32:26Speaker 3: that he had was phenomenal. Such a remarkable guy. And
- 32:29Speaker 3: you know, obviously out coming off the season that he
- 32:31Speaker 3: has to be recognized as an MVP because he's had
- 32:35Speaker 3: an incredible career. But this is another notch on his
- 32:37Speaker 3: belt which I think eventually will lead to the Hall
- 32:40Speaker 3: of Fame. And then I thought the coolest part of
- 32:41Speaker 3: the speech was that he put all the rumors of
- 32:43Speaker 3: bed right. He said, and I'll be back next season.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Hopefully we're not here, we're playing in the game. I
- 32:48Speaker 3: thought that was great because we're not sitting there speculating
- 32:51Speaker 3: what are they going to do at the quarterback position?
- 32:53Speaker 3: You let the organizational, the organization know and your rock
- 32:57Speaker 3: and roll. It was great.
- 32:58Speaker 4: It's also rare that someone wins the MVP and then
- 33:01Speaker 4: has to let people know if he's going to retire
- 33:03Speaker 4: or not.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's usually a younger, younger guy win that MVP.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Right, Usually, yeah, the old guy is not winning the MVP,
- 33:10Speaker 4: and then is it the center of speculation of are
- 33:12Speaker 4: they gonna keep playing? He'd beat Drake May by one
- 33:15Speaker 4: first place vote, one first place vote.
- 33:17Speaker 3: I didn't know what was that close?
- 33:19Speaker 2: And you know who got one first place vote? Justin Herbert?
- 33:23Speaker 3: Okay, come on, you don't know.
- 33:25Speaker 2: This, let's hear your reactions.
- 33:26Speaker 4: So it was in the and it would have been
- 33:28Speaker 4: enough to flip it, but Stafford and it was like,
- 33:31Speaker 4: I don't have the nermbe like, there're gonna be thirty
- 33:33Speaker 4: six first place votes Drake May one first place vote
- 33:37Speaker 4: less than that.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I made the numbers. I'm sure Kevin will tell you.
- 33:42Speaker 4: And then third was justin Herbert on first place vote,
- 33:45Speaker 4: justin Herbert, one first place vote.
- 33:48Speaker 3: See that's see, that's where it comes into question who
- 33:52Speaker 3: made the vote.
- 33:53Speaker 2: He's mad at the voters. Again it's Belichick and Crab.
- 33:55Speaker 2: But here we go.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Who made the vote and what was your reason? I
- 33:58Speaker 3: just want to hear the reasoning behind it. You might,
- 34:00Speaker 3: you might compel me to go. That makes sense to me.
- 34:03Speaker 4: I saw the guy saying why he voted for Herbert,
- 34:06Speaker 4: and he said, it's because he had two offensive linemen
- 34:09Speaker 4: and he was able to do this with a lot
- 34:12Speaker 4: of resources.
- 34:14Speaker 2: That was why he gave him the WPP.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Since in some people's minds, for sure, and Justin Herbert
- 34:19Speaker 3: had a phenomenal year considering all the circumstances what he
- 34:22Speaker 3: went through. But at the same time, the body of
- 34:25Speaker 3: work between those two players that we're talking about right here,
- 34:29Speaker 3: I mean, it's hard not to say it was a
- 34:32Speaker 3: two horse race, so to speak with you, though you
- 34:35Speaker 3: have were the numbers got.
- 34:39Speaker 4: We had Matthew Stafford okay with twenty four, Drake May
- 34:43Speaker 4: with twenty three. Justin Herbert had one that would have shifted.
- 34:47Speaker 4: You did have Josh Allen with two, but no one's
- 34:48Speaker 4: gonna argue that Josh Allen shouldn't have been up there
- 34:51Speaker 4: in that mix. But it was that Justin Herbert one
- 34:53Speaker 4: vote that kept it from happening. But also that vote
- 34:56Speaker 4: could have also gone to Matthew Stafford, so it's not
- 34:59Speaker 4: like that vote automatically would have went to Drake May.
- 35:02Speaker 3: But what happens if the voting process.
- 35:05Speaker 4: In a tie, then you have cobbs do you really? Yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 4: you don't flip a coin to anything. You literally because.
- 35:11Speaker 3: I didn't know if it would maybe be a re No,
- 35:13Speaker 3: they can't revote, they'd be vote for the same people.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Well, you also have first place votes, second place volks,
- 35:17Speaker 4: third place votes, so that they do it like that
- 35:18Speaker 4: because McCaffrey was like at four or five, they really
- 35:21Speaker 4: only listen to the top three in the final. But
- 35:25Speaker 4: if it's a tie, it's literally a tie. It's so
- 35:27Speaker 4: hard for them to be a tie because you're ranking everyone.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say, has there ever been a
- 35:32Speaker 3: co MVP three?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Who else?
- 35:36Speaker 3: When's the most recent?
- 35:38Speaker 2: Two thousand and three? Let me see if I can
- 35:41Speaker 2: guess them for sure?
- 35:44Speaker 4: Oh, okay, two thousand and three. So I would have
- 35:46Speaker 4: been where the Manning is he?
- 35:47Speaker 3: Right?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Okay Manning? And uh, let's just go to the Heisman
- 35:51Speaker 2: Charles Woodson.
- 35:54Speaker 3: At the MVP when it's got to be a quarterback,
- 36:00Speaker 3: but didn't once and beat him for the Heisman though,
- 36:02Speaker 3: Who who's in the Super.
- 36:03Speaker 2: That's my point. Yeah, I'll just say just graduate that.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Yeah, who's in the Super Bowl that year?
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah? I don't know years so.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Well, two thousand and one, two thousand and two, didn't
- 36:16Speaker 3: the Patriots win both of those and they won four.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I can't tell you a single year anybody did anything.
- 36:21Speaker 4: I don't even know what last year was. Covid fried
- 36:24Speaker 4: my brain. Okay, so Peyton Manning's gonna be an offensive player.
- 36:27Speaker 4: Adrian Peterson, I don't even know if he's in the
- 36:31Speaker 4: league at that point.
- 36:31Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I just guess somebody. So we could stop my version
- 36:33Speaker 2: of this game.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I'm trying to think back to uh so Peyton Manning's
- 36:42Speaker 3: AFC were you were?
- 36:43Speaker 2: You were you in the league?
- 36:44Speaker 3: Then that's not right before you, that was right before me.
- 36:47Speaker 4: NFC, it can be two AFC guys, Yeah, could it?
- 36:56Speaker 3: Gosh, all the customers that I'm thinking of my air
- 37:02Speaker 3: is not Alex Smith. He was in the league, but
- 37:07Speaker 3: he was a really good football player at that point.
- 37:09Speaker 4: At Utah, We're just gonna buzz you if you don't
- 37:13Speaker 4: just yell at name.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, just go ahead, Yeah, yeah, gives.
- 37:17Speaker 2: It the Titans?
- 37:21Speaker 4: Uh, Derek, Oh yeah, yeah, dude, I'm throwing really yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 4: I'm throwing out Chris Johnson.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I didn't realize McNair was an MVP of the league. Gosh,
- 37:32Speaker 3: that's amazing.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Who else? Ninety seven?
- 37:36Speaker 3: Far far and Barry said, Wow.
- 37:41Speaker 4: I wonder if they voted the same way then, because
- 37:43Speaker 4: it gets down to like point like point Oh oh,
- 37:47Speaker 4: I wonder if it was just like a straight who's MVP?
- 37:49Speaker 4: Like if they were teetered back then, it would be
- 37:51Speaker 4: so hard to have co MVPs.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Now, what's how the voting is? Do you know the
- 37:55Speaker 2: other one? Nineteen sixty Oh yeah, new.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Rockney Norman, Rock, Joe and Joe.
- 38:07Speaker 2: For the Phillies. Okay, so congratulations Stafford. Defensive Player of
- 38:12Speaker 2: the Year.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Do you remember?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Do you know who it was before I tell you.
- 38:15Speaker 3: I don't, but I'm guessing this. Miles Garrett, Miles Garrett. Yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 3: it was really tough one on that. I'm sure the voters.
- 38:21Speaker 3: What were the votes for that that award?
- 38:23Speaker 4: I never saw the actual votes because it wasn't click
- 38:27Speaker 4: madey going, Oh, look at drag Ray.
- 38:29Speaker 2: He almost won Offensive Player of the Year was what
- 38:32Speaker 2: Jackson Smith.
- 38:33Speaker 3: And Jigba deserve rely we yea seventeen hundred yards or
- 38:36Speaker 3: something like that, receiving.
- 38:37Speaker 2: And Rookie of the Year.
- 38:38Speaker 4: I'm just going for memory here, but Rookie of the
- 38:40Speaker 4: Year was Ted McMillan. He had a great It was
- 38:44Speaker 4: pretty good rookie year though when you look back, because
- 38:47Speaker 4: there was Ted, there was Shock who came on late ish,
- 38:51Speaker 4: there was Jackson Dark.
- 38:55Speaker 2: So those were three.
- 38:58Speaker 4: But he started so strong, he got injured and then yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 4: it was a tough, tough end of the year.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Then all right, let's go over you mentioned him. What
- 39:07Speaker 2: do you got?
- 39:08Speaker 4: Oh, okay, we lost our internet.
- 39:11Speaker 3: That's okay, though, does rookie of the year? What about
- 39:13Speaker 3: defensive Rookie of the Year.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I don't think there's an offensive defensive Rookie of the Year?
- 39:18Speaker 3: Is there? There should be. If you have a defensive
- 39:23Speaker 3: player of the Year and an offensive player of the
- 39:24Speaker 3: Year for the league, you should have an offensive Rookie
- 39:26Speaker 3: of the Year and a defensive rookie year. I hear you,
- 39:29Speaker 3: and tell me who the best special teams player was too.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Kevin wants the best assistant quarterbacks coach as well.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.
- 39:37Speaker 3: So Josh McDaniels one assistant of the air for able
- 39:40Speaker 3: one of the.
- 39:42Speaker 4: Incredible Yeah, how about the rookie defensive Rookie Larson's squashing
- 39:50Speaker 4: Yeah oh yeah, wow, I didn't know that.
- 39:57Speaker 3: How about the pronunciation for Mike rabele on the Coach
- 39:59Speaker 3: of the Year. Did you get catching in marble? Yeah?
- 40:03Speaker 3: Like just so off and said it multiple times, and
- 40:07Speaker 3: I was like, man, that's uh coach of the year,
- 40:10Speaker 3: just maybe one.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Of Yeah, maybe they like maybe get ready practice that.
- 40:14Speaker 3: A little bit or even put it on there like
- 40:17Speaker 3: what is it phonetically speaking?
- 40:18Speaker 4: Where you Yeah, but because they can't tell her this
- 40:21Speaker 4: is going to be the coach of the year. But
- 40:23Speaker 4: like the three that probably are gonna win, Like, here's
- 40:26Speaker 4: who possibly can win Coach of the Year.
- 40:28Speaker 3: There's four possible games, Like let's fire, Yeah, that's the guy.
- 40:35Speaker 2: We're gonna go over now to two time Super Bowl
- 40:36Speaker 2: champion Vince will Fork.
- 40:37Speaker 4: Vince was a five time Pro bowler named of the
- 40:40Speaker 4: Patriots Ald Decade Team. He was a beast when he played.
- 40:43Speaker 4: We talked about giving his friends and family super Bowl tickets.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Here you love Vince.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Vince is the best man here.
- 40:49Speaker 2: He is They're great. Vince will Fork. Vince will Fork
- 40:52Speaker 2: is here with us. You guys already know each other.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Oh, man, Vince is the one of the all time
- 40:57Speaker 3: greats to ever play his position. But I mean what
- 41:00Speaker 3: five time Pro bowler, Yeah, you wear two time Super
- 41:04Speaker 3: Bowl champion, All Pro Patriots times.
- 41:08Speaker 6: I've done it though, Yeah, I had those.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Come on, you went to a lot of accepting ceremonies
- 41:13Speaker 3: where you got to sit up there and give a
- 41:14Speaker 3: little speech, babe. But I mean, not only was he
- 41:17Speaker 3: a great player, but an incredible teammate, an incredible person.
- 41:21Speaker 7: So happy to have you on, man, I appreciate Thank
- 41:22Speaker 7: you guys for having me. Really appreciate it.
- 41:24Speaker 2: How you feel about the team this year.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Expectations weren't to be here, but they are here, So
- 41:29Speaker 4: I mean that's something.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:31Speaker 6: Well, I was just telling Matt.
- 41:32Speaker 7: I called it at the very beginning when everything once
- 41:35Speaker 7: we realized that Matt was coming in, I mean, Mike
- 41:38Speaker 7: was coming in and be a head coach at doing
- 41:40Speaker 7: the Patriots, I knew. Yeah, I'm like because I played
- 41:42Speaker 7: with Mike right and I played for Mike when he
- 41:44Speaker 7: was in Houston as a coach, and we had we
- 41:47Speaker 7: spent a lot of time talking about certain stuff. But
- 41:49Speaker 7: I just remember Mike as a player. When Mike spoke
- 41:52Speaker 7: as a player, when you on the field, you think
- 41:54Speaker 7: you're listening to a coach, that's right. I'm thinking I'm
- 41:56Speaker 7: listening to Bill Bellachet with somebody off the staff. But
- 41:59Speaker 7: he was my teammate, so I just understand, like how
- 42:02Speaker 7: much he knows football, his football IQ. And one thing
- 42:06Speaker 7: I really love about Mike and and and this is
- 42:08Speaker 7: why I tell people. One of the best things I
- 42:10Speaker 7: love about him, he's a great teacher. The way he
- 42:13Speaker 7: teaches the game, the fundamentals, He get guys to understand it.
- 42:18Speaker 7: And I think to be a great coach, you have
- 42:20Speaker 7: to be a great teacher, and I think he had
- 42:21Speaker 7: both of those up under his belt. So it's not
- 42:23Speaker 7: surprising to see us in this position, this this fast,
- 42:27Speaker 7: coming from where we came from last year. It's amazing
- 42:30Speaker 7: to see. It's what Drake May is doing the second
- 42:33Speaker 7: year in as a quarterback man. You know, it's hard,
- 42:36Speaker 7: it's unbelievable, right, And I think a lot of times
- 42:39Speaker 7: people forget it is it's only second year, so they
- 42:42Speaker 7: don't give him as much grace as they need to
- 42:44Speaker 7: as a second year player, just because it's his success
- 42:47Speaker 7: he's had and how he how he's looking as a veteran,
- 42:49Speaker 7: but it's his second year in the game. So for
- 42:52Speaker 7: us to be back on this stage, this is where
- 42:55Speaker 7: we need to be.
- 42:55Speaker 6: This is where we know and we will be in.
- 42:57Speaker 7: This is where the organization for the past two decades,
- 43:00Speaker 7: you get got used to seeing us there, and it's
- 43:02Speaker 7: good to see it back, especially with a new football
- 43:06Speaker 7: players and the new head coach is heading in everything,
- 43:08Speaker 7: and new leadership on the team with Digs and Milton
- 43:11Speaker 7: Williams and all these new faces. It's good to see
- 43:14Speaker 7: it doing in a different era. So it's patience one
- 43:18Speaker 7: hundred percent for me. I'm looking forward to it and
- 43:20Speaker 7: hopefully we can get it done one last time.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Hey, you won three super Bowls? Right, what part of
- 43:24Speaker 3: this week did you think was the biggest grind in
- 43:27Speaker 3: terms of getting prepared for the week and also media
- 43:30Speaker 3: everything else. When did you really feel like you zoned
- 43:33Speaker 3: in and were ready to go?
- 43:36Speaker 7: For me, it always be the Thursday, this Thursday right here, right,
- 43:40Speaker 7: because we have two weeks to prepare. Yeah, and basically
- 43:44Speaker 7: the second you know, the first week you go out,
- 43:46Speaker 7: you put out game plan, and then you come back
- 43:48Speaker 7: there following week and kind of redo some stuff, take
- 43:51Speaker 7: away some things, add a few things. But your game
- 43:53Speaker 7: plan was your game plan, what you liked and what
- 43:55Speaker 7: you put in that first week you basically just repping it.
- 43:58Speaker 6: You have little things here and there that you changed.
- 44:00Speaker 7: But this day, this Thursday, that's when I'm really like, Okay,
- 44:04Speaker 7: let me get my body, let me get locked in,
- 44:06Speaker 7: let me focus. And because I have Thursday, I have
- 44:10Speaker 7: Friday and Saturdaday, I have three a's and I'm I'm
- 44:13Speaker 7: laser focus in those days and understanding everything's starting to
- 44:17Speaker 7: come together. You know, the past are off, you know,
- 44:19Speaker 7: Thursdays getting your body back. So now you're saying, okay,
- 44:23Speaker 7: I've been away for two weeks, but now it's getting there.
- 44:26Speaker 7: But I always took this day like it's go time.
- 44:29Speaker 2: You hear the stories of you're playing in the Super Bowl.
- 44:31Speaker 4: You got cousins and mom and friends all who want tickets.
- 44:36Speaker 2: You played in a bunch of Super Bowls? Did that
- 44:37Speaker 2: get easier to provide tickets to the people that you loved?
- 44:40Speaker 5: Man?
- 44:40Speaker 6: For me, it was very easy. It was a note man,
- 44:44Speaker 6: because because.
- 44:45Speaker 3: You used to we used to be a sell those things.
- 44:47Speaker 7: Yeah, you know to me And I remember when I
- 44:50Speaker 7: first got drafted and we'll talk about tickets and we
- 44:53Speaker 7: was going to play the Dolphins and they say, Vincent, well,
- 44:56Speaker 7: I know you need about twenty tickets. How many tickets?
- 44:58Speaker 7: I say too. Hey looked at me. I'm like, I
- 45:01Speaker 7: don't know, I don't. Ain't nobody getting no tickets? Like, no,
- 45:05Speaker 7: it's not for to happen. So early in my career,
- 45:09Speaker 7: I established that early on. Don't call for tickets. I'm
- 45:12Speaker 7: not buying if I make it to so weird, I'm
- 45:14Speaker 7: not gonna do this. I'm gonna get a certain amount
- 45:17Speaker 7: of tickets for people that I know that need them.
- 45:18Speaker 5: And that was it.
- 45:19Speaker 7: But I was always one of them. I just I
- 45:22Speaker 7: just like football, like all this other stuff. Y'all handle that,
- 45:25Speaker 7: y'all do what y'all want to do. I'm a football player.
- 45:27Speaker 7: I don't got time to deal with tickets. Don't call
- 45:29Speaker 7: me if it ain't about football, don't bother me. You know,
- 45:32Speaker 7: my teammates, my teammates, and but outside of my teammates,
- 45:36Speaker 7: in my locker room, I had my core family members
- 45:38Speaker 7: that I talked to daily and other than that. My
- 45:41Speaker 7: football team was my family, so I didn't need tickets
- 45:44Speaker 7: for my football family.
- 45:45Speaker 2: They got it.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Talk to me about when you first came in your
- 45:49Speaker 3: rookie year. You guys won the Super Bowl, right, but
- 45:51Speaker 3: you had an incredible room. You had Ty Warren, Richard Seymour,
- 45:54Speaker 3: Willie mcguz, Roosevelt calledy brew. So who is most impactful
- 46:04Speaker 3: for you when you first came into the league And
- 46:07Speaker 3: amongst that group of greats, Patriot greats and football greats,
- 46:11Speaker 3: who had the most impact it was.
- 46:13Speaker 6: Really it was Willie McGinnis.
- 46:16Speaker 7: William McGinnis was definitely d one because I remember watching
- 46:20Speaker 7: Willie and Slay lineup opposite ends as I've watched the
- 46:24Speaker 7: Patriots growing up. So Willim McGinnis was one of them,
- 46:27Speaker 7: and Rodney Harrison, ty Low, Teddy Brucey, those guys. Seymour
- 46:33Speaker 7: was four years in when I got in there, and
- 46:36Speaker 7: I love ty. Ty Warren is my guy.
- 46:39Speaker 6: The most underrated guy that I ever played with.
- 46:43Speaker 7: I think so underrated, but he was probably like the
- 46:47Speaker 7: meeting potatoes of that defensive line. Honestly, but a lot
- 46:50Speaker 7: of a lot of credit give is given to me
- 46:52Speaker 7: and Seymour, but Ty, I mean, he was just that
- 46:56Speaker 7: one guy that can do anything.
- 46:57Speaker 6: You could put him anywhere. He was durable, he.
- 47:00Speaker 7: Was like a mule man, like get it done, tough, strong,
- 47:05Speaker 7: great teammate, Southern boy. I loved him. So it was
- 47:09Speaker 7: easy for me to come in and learn from these
- 47:11Speaker 7: guys and have a defense the way we had with
- 47:14Speaker 7: so much leadership on it. And I'm coming from the
- 47:17Speaker 7: universe to Miami and I'm coming from guys and leadership
- 47:19Speaker 7: as well.
- 47:20Speaker 6: We won, We know how to win.
- 47:22Speaker 7: So it wasn't a big difference honestly, of transitioning from
- 47:26Speaker 7: college to pros.
- 47:27Speaker 6: It wasn't because I've seen it. I've been in it.
- 47:29Speaker 7: I played fast, I played with some great guys, and
- 47:32Speaker 7: just coming to New England, you know, now I'm in
- 47:34Speaker 7: an NFL playing for a Bill Belichick team that's just
- 47:37Speaker 7: coming off a super Bowl win against Carolina down in Houston.
- 47:41Speaker 7: And then Ted Washington, the best nosetacker ever to get
- 47:44Speaker 7: rid of Ted and draft me. So now it's like,
- 47:47Speaker 7: oh my gosh, Ted Washington, now he's going. Now I'm
- 47:50Speaker 7: coming in like I don't even know how to play
- 47:52Speaker 7: nose tackle, right, So a lot of people have to
- 47:55Speaker 7: understand I had to learn the game of nose tackle
- 47:57Speaker 7: because it's totally different than a defensive tackle. It's a
- 48:00Speaker 7: totally different game. So I had to learn how to
- 48:02Speaker 7: bill nose tackle. And a lot of credit go to
- 48:04Speaker 7: Bill and Romeo of just believing in me enough to
- 48:07Speaker 7: detern me into a nose howcker to be real efficient
- 48:10Speaker 7: at this level because once I learned that, they can
- 48:13Speaker 7: do so many multiple things because my background was the
- 48:15Speaker 7: one gapper, so I can do anything.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I could play anywhere across the ball and stuff.
- 48:19Speaker 7: And that's why, like my year four the most they
- 48:22Speaker 7: started moving around from defensive end and three tech meee,
- 48:25Speaker 7: left and right. Then we started getting into the game
- 48:28Speaker 7: planning of me and all that and that thing. That's
- 48:30Speaker 7: when my game really took off once they once I
- 48:32Speaker 7: proved for them, I noticed defensive inside of out, I
- 48:35Speaker 7: can understand the offensive scheme, and my football IQ was
- 48:39Speaker 7: what it was. I think that's when Bill really trusted
- 48:42Speaker 7: me to line up at defensive end or line up
- 48:45Speaker 7: at that three technee or goal play on this side
- 48:48Speaker 7: on these certain plays because he knew I could do it.
- 48:50Speaker 7: So a lot of credit go to my coaches with
- 48:53Speaker 7: disbelieving in me, but also putting in the work and
- 48:56Speaker 7: showing and proving it to him that.
- 48:58Speaker 3: I can do it.
- 48:59Speaker 2: What are you doing with usl USO?
- 49:01Speaker 3: So I got it.
- 49:03Speaker 7: I've been on three tours with the USO. I've been
- 49:08Speaker 7: to eleven countries in the past three years, and what
- 49:13Speaker 7: the USO stands for is unbelievable. They kind of bridge
- 49:17Speaker 7: that gap between the military family and the military because
- 49:20Speaker 7: you have guys that haven't seen family years.
- 49:24Speaker 6: You know, you have eighteen nineteen twenty year olds away.
- 49:27Speaker 7: From home in Poland, Romania, Sicily, you know, all these
- 49:32Speaker 7: places that they're not used to. Its foreign to them,
- 49:35Speaker 7: but they get They go there to work to make
- 49:37Speaker 7: sure that we're safe, protect our freedom, the sacrifices of
- 49:42Speaker 7: the dedications they make daily for us to do what
- 49:45Speaker 7: we need to do, for me to be who I
- 49:47Speaker 7: became as a football player, for you guys to sit
- 49:51Speaker 7: here and do this and talk, it's all because of them,
- 49:54Speaker 7: you know, because at night when we're sleep and having
- 49:57Speaker 7: these nice dreams, they're up. You know, they're watching everything,
- 50:01Speaker 7: they're making, they're they're inaccepting things, their bombs, you name it,
- 50:04Speaker 7: they're they're there. Are twenty four seven three sixty five
- 50:08Speaker 7: they don't stop, and I think we need. The least
- 50:11Speaker 7: we can do is show our support and love and
- 50:13Speaker 7: let them know how much we love and support them,
- 50:17Speaker 7: and just cherish everything they do for us to keep
- 50:19Speaker 7: us safe. And the USO is a great, great organization
- 50:23Speaker 7: that provides that for them. And just to be able
- 50:26Speaker 7: to see face these kids' faces when they see being
- 50:29Speaker 7: I walk in with my Super Bowl ring, they turn
- 50:31Speaker 7: into little kids, right. And then you have their lieutenants
- 50:34Speaker 7: and their currents, like we haven't seen him smile in
- 50:36Speaker 7: over here, and then you know, I come in here
- 50:39Speaker 7: and I get a smile out of them. And it's
- 50:42Speaker 7: just the camaraderie. It's just like football, you know how
- 50:44Speaker 7: it is in the locker room. When you're around your people,
- 50:47Speaker 7: you feel safe. We can have conversations and we can laugh,
- 50:50Speaker 7: we could talk, we can cry. It's no different with
- 50:52Speaker 7: those guys. You know, they have what they have. But
- 50:54Speaker 7: now when you start bringing in celebrities and guys coming,
- 50:58Speaker 7: you know, like we just we this year. We did
- 51:00Speaker 7: said Kuwait, We was in Jordan, we was in Djibouti
- 51:04Speaker 7: in Africa.
- 51:05Speaker 6: That's where we were.
- 51:06Speaker 7: Just now, right, So to go over there and to
- 51:09Speaker 7: have Patriot flags and just represent the US. It was
- 51:13Speaker 7: seatle fans. You named football. They're big football and the Americans.
- 51:17Speaker 7: But there are any these locations just so to make
- 51:20Speaker 7: sure that we're safe.
- 51:21Speaker 6: And it brings such joy to me when.
- 51:25Speaker 7: I leave them, and then I get home and then
- 51:27Speaker 7: now I have a parent emailing me saying you met
- 51:31Speaker 7: my son and sending me a picture. I can't explain
- 51:34Speaker 7: to you how much that meant for me and my family.
- 51:36Speaker 7: He still is talking like it's amazing just to get
- 51:39Speaker 7: that type of feedback and what it does.
- 51:42Speaker 6: It carries a long way. It goes a long way,
- 51:44Speaker 6: if you believe it or not.
- 51:46Speaker 7: We have guys that's been in the military with the
- 51:48Speaker 7: President of the USO. He been in there for thirty
- 51:52Speaker 7: plus years. He still remember those USO days people coming around.
- 51:56Speaker 7: He's still remembering that you talk of thirty forty years.
- 51:59Speaker 7: So this is something that lasts with them forever. They'll
- 52:01Speaker 7: never forget and I'm glad I can be a part
- 52:04Speaker 7: of it. So the more we can showed him the
- 52:05Speaker 7: support of what they do for us on a daily basis,
- 52:08Speaker 7: the more I love it.
- 52:09Speaker 2: That's we appreciate the time.
- 52:11Speaker 3: Man.
- 52:11Speaker 6: Thank you guys.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Thank you so much, man, right the love you.
- 52:25Speaker 3: Are.
- 52:25Speaker 2: We gonna go now. And this is us talking to.
- 52:28Speaker 4: Justin Reid, which I asked him, and you'll hear about
- 52:30Speaker 4: kicking Yeah, well he lit up.
- 52:32Speaker 2: He's like, I won't even say what he said.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Get here so fired up for that segment.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Here is NFL safety Justin Reid, who now plays for
- 52:38Speaker 4: the Saints. He's won two Super Bowls for the Chiefs,
- 52:41Speaker 4: he played for the Texans, and now he's in New Orleans.
- 52:43Speaker 6: Where he grew up.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Here, he is the great Justin Reid.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Justin Reid, I mean, this is one of the top
- 52:48Speaker 3: safeties in the league. Versatile.
- 52:51Speaker 5: He's been with Houston, Kansas City.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Now you're back home in New Orleans. Tell me what
- 52:56Speaker 3: that experience been like being back home in New Orleans.
- 52:58Speaker 5: Yeah. Man, it's a full circle moment.
- 53:00Speaker 8: It's a full circle moment to go and play for
- 53:02Speaker 8: the team that I grew up watching. I've been asked
- 53:04Speaker 8: a ton about what I think about Drew's Hall of
- 53:06Speaker 8: Fame coming to the Hall of Fame, and that was like, man,
- 53:09Speaker 8: like growing up watching that guy and how he inspired
- 53:11Speaker 8: the whole state and really made kids like me back
- 53:14Speaker 8: in you know, the early two thousands, like fall in
- 53:16Speaker 8: love with with football and watching the Saints and now
- 53:19Speaker 8: have an opportunity to go back and pour into the
- 53:22Speaker 8: Saints program and try, you know, do that for the
- 53:24Speaker 8: next little kid that's growing up right now.
- 53:26Speaker 5: It's the coolest feeling ever. Man.
- 53:28Speaker 8: That's no fan base in the world like the Saints
- 53:30Speaker 8: fan base. They're crazy and they'll let you know about it.
- 53:34Speaker 4: Was it your goal to get home, like you did
- 53:37Speaker 4: you know that was gonna be an option to go
- 53:38Speaker 4: for No?
- 53:38Speaker 5: I didn't. I didn't. I never. That never came across
- 53:41Speaker 5: my mind.
- 53:42Speaker 8: And then when I was in there the agency and
- 53:44Speaker 8: I got the call, like it was in that moment
- 53:46Speaker 8: that I was like, Wow, this is actually pretty cool.
- 53:49Speaker 8: Like I never thought that I would go home and
- 53:50Speaker 8: play for the Saints that you know what I mean,
- 53:52Speaker 8: you just don't think about it, and the opportunity came
- 53:55Speaker 8: up and I just, you know, wanted to grab it.
- 53:57Speaker 3: I got a question, being from Louisiana, how did you
- 53:59Speaker 3: end up at Stanford?
- 54:01Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 54:01Speaker 8: I mean what, Yeah, you know, I kind of asked
- 54:03Speaker 8: myself that sometimes too. There's a couple of things that
- 54:06Speaker 8: definitely helped though, because I was so close to going
- 54:08Speaker 8: to LSU.
- 54:09Speaker 5: It's like when I didn't sign.
- 54:11Speaker 8: An LSU, being a kid from Louisiana, it was like,
- 54:14Speaker 8: it's like I betrayed the state.
- 54:16Speaker 5: It was like, what you mean, you don't want to
- 54:17Speaker 5: go tho shoe.
- 54:19Speaker 8: But my older brother was playing for the forty nine
- 54:20Speaker 8: ers at the time, right down the street, and my
- 54:23Speaker 8: mom was travel nursing. She'd work two weeks and then
- 54:25Speaker 8: come on two weeks and she was travel nursing in Oakland,
- 54:28Speaker 8: So there was already a little pod on here in
- 54:31Speaker 8: the Bay Area. You know, it just made it a
- 54:32Speaker 8: transition a little easier.
- 54:34Speaker 4: Whenever you're getting ready for the Super Bowl, you you
- 54:36Speaker 4: got two right got to you got too where each
- 54:39Speaker 4: of those experience is different.
- 54:42Speaker 5: The first one, yes and no.
- 54:44Speaker 8: So the first one was like your first super Bowl,
- 54:47Speaker 8: You're like trying to get ready for it. Like I
- 54:49Speaker 8: don't think that I had fun during the week, you
- 54:52Speaker 8: know what I mean, Like I was so locked in on,
- 54:54Speaker 8: like I just want to make sure I'm ready to
- 54:55Speaker 8: go and perform and play well and et cetera, et cetera.
- 54:58Speaker 8: But then the second and third one, like I allowed
- 55:01Speaker 8: myself to actually enjoy the moment. So much more and
- 55:04Speaker 8: had so much much more fun that second and third
- 55:06Speaker 8: Super Bowl, especially the third one being in New Orleans, right,
- 55:10Speaker 8: you know that was an expensive ticket.
- 55:11Speaker 5: I played that game for free, you getting all the
- 55:14Speaker 5: tickets for the family.
- 55:16Speaker 8: But it's a surreal moment and I pray those guys
- 55:18Speaker 8: that are in it right now are enjoying it right now.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, talk to me about this week in
- 55:23Speaker 3: general in terms of the preparation, what goes into it.
- 55:26Speaker 3: What do you think the biggest challenges of this week
- 55:28Speaker 3: getting ready for this game.
- 55:29Speaker 8: It's just managing distractions. Like there's every distraction in the
- 55:33Speaker 8: world that you can have, you know what I mean.
- 55:34Speaker 8: Everyone's pulling you on your coattail, trying to drag you
- 55:37Speaker 8: in different directions, and it's like, hey, you know, you
- 55:39Speaker 8: got to do a little bit of it. But at
- 55:41Speaker 8: the end of the day, keep the main thing, the
- 55:43Speaker 8: main thing about while we're all here to play, and
- 55:45Speaker 8: then having a plan for managing your excitement on game day.
- 55:50Speaker 8: That's a real thing. Like young guys it's their first
- 55:52Speaker 8: time playing. We had a whole twenty minute meeting on
- 55:55Speaker 8: just managing your energy for a Super Bowl because most
- 55:58Speaker 8: of the time you get out, you do your warm up,
- 56:00Speaker 8: you go back inside, you come on the field, You're
- 56:02Speaker 8: there for ten minutes, and then it's kickoff.
- 56:04Speaker 5: Super Bowl.
- 56:05Speaker 8: You come out on the field and it's forty five
- 56:07Speaker 8: minutes before you do kickoff, and you got to like
- 56:09Speaker 8: have a plan and not get yourself too jacked up
- 56:11Speaker 8: or emotionally drained. And then you have a thirty five
- 56:13Speaker 8: minute halftime, right, you gotta have a plan there.
- 56:16Speaker 5: So it's like managing all the extra TV.
- 56:19Speaker 8: Timeouts, just staying cool, calm and collected, and uh, just
- 56:22Speaker 8: being ready for the moment because that game is gonna
- 56:25Speaker 8: it's gonna be a four and a half five.
- 56:26Speaker 3: Hour game spectacle, you know what I mean.
- 56:29Speaker 5: So you gotta be ready to last the entire time.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Is there a part in the game where it goes
- 56:34Speaker 4: from holy crap or in the Super Bowl to okay,
- 56:36Speaker 4: Now this just feels like a real game, Like is
- 56:38Speaker 4: there a point where its contact?
- 56:40Speaker 5: Yeah, first contact, you know what I mean? Up until
- 56:42Speaker 5: you get that.
- 56:43Speaker 8: I tell guys all the time, Hey, first play the game.
- 56:45Speaker 8: Usually for offenses, it's a run player, it's a boot anyway,
- 56:48Speaker 8: But first play the game, you just got to run
- 56:50Speaker 8: into somebody as hard as you can, man, because then
- 56:51Speaker 8: they'll just bring you they'll bring you back down and
- 56:54Speaker 8: now you're like back to yourself and you're ready to
- 56:55Speaker 8: just go out.
- 56:56Speaker 3: There and play as a safety. Obviously, you have to
- 56:59Speaker 3: know so many different things from route recognition to run
- 57:02Speaker 3: game and everything. Who was a play coach that was
- 57:06Speaker 3: most impactful and influential for you that made you grow
- 57:10Speaker 3: as a player in the NFL.
- 57:12Speaker 8: Yeah, Man, I gotta go back to my guys bags man,
- 57:18Speaker 8: Spags challenged me in so many different ways to be versatile.
- 57:21Speaker 8: I mean, all the cover zeros, all the coverage adjustments,
- 57:25Speaker 8: you really challenged, like the mental side of the game
- 57:27Speaker 8: because we had we had two to three checks for
- 57:29Speaker 8: every call based on what the offense was doing.
- 57:31Speaker 5: We had master checks versus certain formations.
- 57:33Speaker 8: We had a call that would check to a version
- 57:36Speaker 8: of two high or one high depending on that the
- 57:37Speaker 8: offense was in a certain formation, and if they motioned,
- 57:40Speaker 8: then we checked.
- 57:41Speaker 5: If they checked, then we checked, you know what I mean.
- 57:43Speaker 8: So that part of the game, that chess match in
- 57:45Speaker 8: the game was really stimulating and then like it really
- 57:48Speaker 8: brought out your best you know what I mean, to
- 57:50Speaker 8: bring on your a game and really be a complete safety,
- 57:53Speaker 8: complete dB. For me, it was fun times because I
- 57:55Speaker 8: had the liberty to send a corner, Like if I
- 57:58Speaker 8: had a blitz, I could choose to give my blitz
- 58:00Speaker 8: to the corner and now I'm playing cornerback, you know
- 58:02Speaker 8: what I mean?
- 58:03Speaker 3: So did you want to do that?
- 58:04Speaker 5: Though?
- 58:04Speaker 2: Sometimes I know what dude, because I could blitz and miss.
- 58:07Speaker 5: Yeah I know the corner. Yeah, yeah, it is that way.
- 58:11Speaker 8: But usually if I had a cut split and I
- 58:13Speaker 8: was like, Okay, I'm going to go show like I
- 58:15Speaker 8: like to get creative, I'm gonna go show all the
- 58:17Speaker 8: way in the post knowing I have this guy man
- 58:19Speaker 8: coverage because I know if he comes Scott Free on
- 58:21Speaker 8: a cut split X off the side, it's going to
- 58:23Speaker 8: be a sack. Like, I'm not gonna have this guy only.
- 58:25Speaker 8: The only route he's going to have time to do
- 58:27Speaker 8: is a quick out. So as soon as the ball snaw,
- 58:29Speaker 8: I'm just gonna run straight to that quick out, you
- 58:31Speaker 8: know what I mean. And it'll either be a pass
- 58:33Speaker 8: breakup or or a tackle.
- 58:34Speaker 3: On the sideline.
- 58:35Speaker 8: You think you could have kicked, absolutely not not a
- 58:39Speaker 8: died In my mind, I still can't.
- 58:41Speaker 3: You see.
- 58:43Speaker 1: That's why I am.
- 58:47Speaker 8: I talked to, especially since coordinator philm three days ago.
- 58:50Speaker 8: I was like, hey Phil, these new kickoff rules, Yeah,
- 58:54Speaker 8: you know what I mean, count of made for it.
- 58:57Speaker 5: Take it down there and make a tackle.
- 58:59Speaker 3: U DB's like to get chippy, who's the best trash
- 59:02Speaker 3: talker from the offensive side of the ball. When you're
- 59:04Speaker 3: going up as an opponent, you'd be like, dude, that
- 59:06Speaker 3: guy is not only funny, but he's got something.
- 59:09Speaker 8: Kelsey, Kelsey talks the most trash bro I know it
- 59:11Speaker 8: from being on both sides of the Yeah, the ball.
- 59:13Speaker 5: Kelsey talks a ton of trash. Who are some other
- 59:16Speaker 5: guys that that are just.
- 59:18Speaker 8: Known trash talkers? Jamar talks some trash. Jaman Chase, he
- 59:22Speaker 8: talks some trash here and there. Uh, Jetta's doesn't really
- 59:27Speaker 8: talk a lot of trash. He's like a quiet assassin
- 59:29Speaker 8: tight He kind of keeps it going. But they definitely
- 59:32Speaker 8: have some cats up there. A lot of the tight ends, honestly,
- 59:34Speaker 8: the tight ends. Yeah, you know a lot of the
- 59:36Speaker 8: tight ends.
- 59:37Speaker 4: Who's next level quick as a receiver, because everybody's quick,
- 59:40Speaker 4: and who's next level large as a receiver.
- 59:43Speaker 2: That's like, oh that's different.
- 59:44Speaker 5: Okay, I'll give you a wide receiver, I'll give you
- 59:47Speaker 5: a tight end.
- 59:48Speaker 8: Who's with the Steelers tight end his name is for
- 59:54Speaker 8: Like this dude is massive, dude.
- 59:56Speaker 5: He's like, oh you're talking about Oh dude, homeboy's big
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: big like.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: The other one. He's like two and eighty five.
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: That dude is huge.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm doing it.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: And receivers are just like freaking ridiculous.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: If somebody's that big cat is a huge, like just
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: just massive.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: Some wide receivers that's just tall.
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: And when I thought, like, uh, Tech with the Panthers,
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: bigger guy than what you think he is, Uh, next
- 1:00:24Speaker 8: level quick, just jitterbug types.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: Tank Dell whenever he was healthy. Hopefully he comes back.
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: I like that guy.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: I like watching him play. He was a really quick guy.
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, man, there's a there's a handful of nothing.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: What's one thing that you would teach a rookie a
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: non football skill that they would need to survive in
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: the NFL, whether it's media training or film study or
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: something like that that it's really not actual football.
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: Yeah no, the film study part, the film study part.
- 1:00:56Speaker 8: You can slow the game down so much if you
- 1:00:59Speaker 8: just have the slightest clue of what's about to happen,
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: you know what I mean? Or even if even if
- 1:01:03Speaker 8: you could just eliminate things, I'm like, you're not guarding ghosts,
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: you know what I mean?
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: Like you see a certain formation over and.
- 1:01:09Speaker 8: Over again, like my from my career path from where
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: I started as a rookie. So you know, as you're old,
- 1:01:14Speaker 8: you see the same plays, you see the same coordinators,
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: like I now have a book on the coordinators, Like
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: I have a book on the offensive coordinators. Like Okay,
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: I played this guy when he was coaching for the Buccaneers,
- 1:01:25Speaker 8: so I know it's going to be the same plays
- 1:01:27Speaker 8: and I know that, hey, this wide receiver was who
- 1:01:30Speaker 8: this wide receiver.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: Was when he was coaching with this program.
- 1:01:32Speaker 8: And you know, like when you when you can do
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: that and you can slow the game down, it just
- 1:01:37Speaker 8: allows you to make so many more plays, play so
- 1:01:39Speaker 8: much faster to where you're not just out there playing
- 1:01:42Speaker 8: seven on seven football.
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: And you know what I mean. Like Darnell Washington, by
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: the way, Darnell Washington.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: Wow, good Poe, it was working.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: It was working back there.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: You saw I was tapped into firemouth and then it
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: was uh really great talking with you.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, thanks. People love you.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: I mean obviously when you saw Castle, you guys embraced quickly.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: I mean literally that smile, you got everything, charisma, intelligence,
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: can play ball, I mean, and he obviously can kick well.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: I asked him that. He was like, yes, I can't.
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: I legit want Toro like I want to.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: That would be yeah.
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: We appreciate you.
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: Just appreciate you, guys.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: All right, that's it from this version of the Super Bowl.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Go ahead your thoughts on the game. There's not a
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: lot of time.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be an incredible game. I think
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: it's gonna be a defensive battle. To be honest with you.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: Boring, we didn't even know there was a rookie defensive
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: Player of the Year. Is how much that sounds exciting?
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: But it is gonna be a defensive battle. I think
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: Patriots are playing probably they had the best defensive performance
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: in the playoffs thus far, and then Seattle Seahawks, obviously
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: they bring it. It's gonna be I think it's gonna
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: come down to the offensive line for New England if
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: they can give Drake May enough time and block, because
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: they've struggled to pass, protect and protect him throughout the playoffs.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Now they've played three Juggernauts of defensive units, but this
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: is another one up front that if you don't control
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage, it's going to be a long day.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Who do you want to win? Who do you think
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: will win?
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: I want the New England Patriots to win. It's hard
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: for me to say that Seattle, the way that they've
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: played throughout the playoffs, and I also think that their
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: most complete team won't win the game.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I want the Patriots to win.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: I've got Patriot fans in my life, obviously, two of
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: them that do this show with.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Me, and we have money money on that game.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Yeah, we do. We're making a bet me and you.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: No, I'm not betting Seattle.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: Okay, that's fine if you want me to what you're
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: giving me points.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: So I would like to see the Patriots win. I
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: do love the Sam Darnold.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Story though, it's an incredible story.
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: Like that's the and I think Seattle will win. But
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: that's easy to say, right, that's everyone thinks. Most people
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: think Seattle will win, that's why they're the favorite. But
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: I think the one thing that I would find enjoyment
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: in if Seattle wins is the fact that I love
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: Sam Darnold's story. I don't know him as a person,
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: really know nothing about him except that he shows up.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: He's got a good attitude, doesn't talk a lot. Apparently,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: he's a pretty qiet guy in the locker room, like
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: very much.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: It just show up and do the work kind of guy.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Business.
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: Yeah, but is also a guy who it just never
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: went well. He never landed in a place that was
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: conducive to success.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: So he got written off.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I like you do in this league. Yeah, it's
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: a win that league, and if you don't win, you
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: gets shipped off and they they say, hey, you're not
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: good enough. And then you get to the right situation
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: and you get an opportunity to prove yourself and all
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: of a sudden, something like this happens.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: He didn't win with the Jets, all right, he must suck.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: He didn't win with the Panthers.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Actually he was fourign too at the end of the
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: year with the Panthers, but they were probably six in
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: whatever in the season.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and he was hurt too, Yeah, he got hurt.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Matt Ruhle was on his last year.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: It didn't really work that tough runt.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they traded Baker Mayfield a way too. Yeah.
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: So and then he goes and he's a backup in
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: San Francisco, yep. And then he and then he wins
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: in Minnesota. But he's on a his contract was one year.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know the questions around can he win
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: a big game? God? Crazy? You can't have one bad
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: game in this league or you're strewed.
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: I just hope because the league likes to see things
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: happen before they commit to it. Look right, when they're
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: success at anything, the league then can go, hey, we
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: can bet on this person, or we can do this scheme,
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: we can hire this coach because they've had success. What
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: I hope to see is other quarterbacks that have been
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: put in places not conducive.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: To winning get other opportunities.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: Yes, because of what Sam Donald's been able to show,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: even if they don't win this.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Game, Sam Donald, Baker Mayfield, Jennil Smith in recent memory.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Just that's the limited geno from that now, huh. I
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: don't think we should drop the geno out.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah, maybe maybe a few years back there
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: he made his money phenomenal.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Phenomenal, Sorry though, yes, I agree like the people that
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: just did the work. Yeah, their head and took advantage
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: of the opportunity when they got so yeah, same with you.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: I think Seattle will win.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: I would like to see New England win, and we'll
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: see what happens. But we appreciate you guys, and we
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: will see you guys next week.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: I hope you have a good super Bowl. And since
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: we worked for the NFL, we can say that word.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: You guys know that, right, we do you play super Bowl? Yeah,
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: we can't say it. And also you can say it
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: if you're not selling something.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: We're not allowed. Other people aren't allowed to say super Bowl.
- 1:06:33Speaker 8: No.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: If you're talking about any sort of brand or something,
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: you have to see the Big Game.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: Really.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm glad.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: I worked for the NFL because I would have messed
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: that up.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: Refer to it, right, but if you stay a billboard,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: it's like the Big Game also by Nabisco, but they
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: don't have they didn't pay for that, like super Bowl
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: was a brand basically. Uh So, yeah, I hope you
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: guys have a good Big Game and.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna hatch my bets game and we will see
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: you guys next week.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: All right, buy everybody.
