- 0:06Speaker 1: The closer for the San Diego Padres who is joining
- 0:10Speaker 1: us even though we have a taipo in his name.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Don't worry about that.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Oh no, that's okay.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That's okay. We'll blame Marty on that one. We'll clean
- 0:17Speaker 1: it up and post.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Mason.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Thanks for joining for our territory.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We appreciate the time.
- 0:20Speaker 3: How are you. I'm good, I'm good. Thanks for having me.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I figured to name the hotel Mason.
- 0:27Speaker 3: I'm just gonna.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Ask her, are you guys, are you guys still staying
- 0:30Speaker 1: in that haunted hotel in Milwaukee or what?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Yeah? They allegedly allegedly?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, do you guys believe it that? Or do you
- 0:38Speaker 1: guys not so much believe in that?
- 0:41Speaker 3: Uh? Depends on what you ask told me.
- 0:46Speaker 4: I've heard it's only the one side of the hotel,
- 0:48Speaker 4: So come on the side.
- 0:51Speaker 5: On the side, who's on who's on the haunted, who's
- 0:53Speaker 5: on the other side the office?
- 0:58Speaker 3: All the guys are sweets or I don't.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Actually know, but I think it's the order. It's like
- 1:06Speaker 4: two sets of elevators.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Who I'm staying in that hotel?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah? Okay, good, I'm glad. I'm glad.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Well, Mason, Thank you for doing this. We do really
- 1:16Speaker 1: appreciate it. And as excited as we are to talk
- 1:18Speaker 1: about you your on field success, pitching everything that you
- 1:21Speaker 1: got going on in your universe, you're talking to a
- 1:24Speaker 1: couple of Star Wars nerds here, So we are going
- 1:27Speaker 1: to start with your opportunity to appear in a commercial
- 1:30Speaker 1: for the Mandalorian with Brogan. Can you tell us a
- 1:33Speaker 1: little bit the backstory about how this happened for you.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it kind of came out of nowhere MLBU.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Obviously it was doing this, this partnership with it, and
- 1:44Speaker 4: for some reason they wanted me me to be the guy.
- 1:48Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Obviously it's it's pretty awesome to get a chance to
- 1:51Speaker 4: do something like that, and you know, the production of
- 1:54Speaker 4: it was on a kind of a different level than
- 1:57Speaker 4: anything I've ever done so easy. Yes, I've seen Star Wars,
- 2:02Speaker 4: but I can't say that I fall in the bucket
- 2:03Speaker 4: of like an avid Star Wars fan because I know
- 2:06Speaker 4: that that comes with a lot of extra territory of
- 2:10Speaker 4: knowing what is going on with.
- 2:12Speaker 3: The story and stuff.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I won't pretend to be that into it, but I
- 2:16Speaker 4: have seen it, so it's not like not like I
- 2:19Speaker 4: don't know it at all, but out of respect to
- 2:23Speaker 4: people like yourselves that really really take it, really take
- 2:27Speaker 4: it to another level. I didn't claim I didn't claim
- 2:30Speaker 4: my type of fandom.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Wait a second, Wait a second, are you saying out
- 2:33Speaker 5: of respect to all you nerves out there, because that's
- 2:36Speaker 5: what you're that's what you're saying right now. You're calling
- 2:38Speaker 5: out the nerds. I think you think now that I'm
- 2:39Speaker 5: a nerd because I happen to have, you know, a
- 2:41Speaker 5: baby Yoda picture at my disposal, which I do.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I felt like I didn't use the word nerd because
- 2:48Speaker 4: I was being very considerate.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But they say the same thing. They say the same
- 2:53Speaker 3: thing about big baseball fans or anybody like that.
- 2:56Speaker 4: You know, it's like, I'm respecting that that that fandom,
- 3:00Speaker 4: and you know, I'm not going to claim to have
- 3:02Speaker 4: the same I guess you know, I'm not going to
- 3:04Speaker 4: claim that I go to two games a year and
- 3:06Speaker 4: I know what's going on.
- 3:07Speaker 2: How many takes?
- 3:08Speaker 5: How many takes did it did it take for that
- 3:10Speaker 5: for that spot, that's a great.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Spot for We were there for about an hour.
- 3:17Speaker 4: And we did we filmed a bunch of stuff, but
- 3:22Speaker 4: obviously it was pretty short commercial so it's pretty quick
- 3:25Speaker 4: as far as uh the actual uh stuff getting shown.
- 3:29Speaker 4: It was funny though, because it was like, all right,
- 3:30Speaker 4: let's do one more, and then it's like, all right,
- 3:32Speaker 4: one more for safety, all right, one more, And I
- 3:35Speaker 4: feel like that's just what they say. I don't know
- 3:38Speaker 4: if they say that to actors too, where it's like
- 3:40Speaker 4: they want you to think that like this is your
- 3:42Speaker 4: last takes. You're like, all right, I'm just gonna nail
- 3:44Speaker 4: this one, and then they're like they hit you with
- 3:46Speaker 4: one more, you know. So I think there was some
- 3:49Speaker 4: strategy to that, But it was good that the production
- 3:52Speaker 4: was was amazing and I showed up and we were
- 3:55Speaker 4: shooting in like probably six minutes after I got there,
- 3:58Speaker 4: so it was really efficient. So hats off to that
- 4:01Speaker 4: team that was there doing it.
- 4:03Speaker 1: And I want to say that was UCSD. At first
- 4:06Speaker 1: I thought it was USD, and then upon further inspection,
- 4:08Speaker 1: it looked like it was the Triitons right up there
- 4:10Speaker 1: in Laoya.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, up in La Joya, about twenty minutes
- 4:13Speaker 4: or so from the stadium.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And you had your line was the force was strong
- 4:19Speaker 1: with that one, and then you tapped up Grogu. How
- 4:24Speaker 1: did you feel like you performed and I don't know
- 4:25Speaker 1: if this was your acting debut or not. Maybe you've
- 4:27Speaker 1: been in some commercials and other junctures in your career,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but how did you How did you do as an actor?
- 4:32Speaker 3: Do you think not to this scale?
- 4:34Speaker 4: They had me run through a bunch of different lines
- 4:36Speaker 4: like this is this is the way. Obviously the force
- 4:41Speaker 4: was strong with that one. The force is strong with you,
- 4:45Speaker 4: So yeah, that's what they went with. Ultimately, Grogu was
- 4:48Speaker 4: they had like four different people controlling like one person
- 4:52Speaker 4: was controlling his arms with like a I don't know,
- 4:56Speaker 4: like the.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Thing you see with like a remote control car pretty much.
- 5:00Speaker 4: So the four of them were like one would move
- 5:02Speaker 4: the head, one move the arms would move the body
- 5:05Speaker 4: like it was a very very intricate thing. They actually
- 5:08Speaker 4: almost canceled the shoot that day because baby Grogu couldn't
- 5:13Speaker 4: make it. It's what they said, See, he had another
- 5:18Speaker 4: he had another commitment the day before, and he has
- 5:20Speaker 4: rules about how much he can travel.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So this is amazing behind the scenes stuff that we're
- 5:29Speaker 1: getting from Mason miller Man. That is phenomenal. Who was
- 5:32Speaker 1: this poor Podrey person that you struck out at the plan?
- 5:34Speaker 1: I was trying to see if it was somebody that
- 5:36Speaker 1: I would recognize. But I'm just guessing this was probably
- 5:39Speaker 1: an extra that they pulled off the street.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah, they had.
- 5:42Speaker 4: They had several extras, the Defenders, the Catcher. They all
- 5:46Speaker 4: had brand like brand news like the catcher and a
- 5:48Speaker 4: brand new glove. And I was just I was only
- 5:51Speaker 4: throwing at like fifty sixty percent, so it wasn't anything crazy,
- 5:56Speaker 4: But I felt bad because he was back there trying
- 5:58Speaker 4: to catch the ball with church glove that barely was
- 6:02Speaker 4: able to sweeze. But they did a good job. They
- 6:05Speaker 4: and they were upfront about it, like we just need
- 6:08Speaker 4: the like bones of it, like you're you're throwing motion,
- 6:14Speaker 4: but we're going to do the edit with the ball
- 6:16Speaker 4: and everything, so don't worry about where it goes or
- 6:19Speaker 4: anything like that.
- 6:20Speaker 6: That was awesome.
- 6:21Speaker 5: That was that was awesome.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It really was such a such a good spot.
- 6:24Speaker 5: And I know that I know that you know, you
- 6:25Speaker 5: have your entry in music, you have corn, you have
- 6:27Speaker 5: that fantastic walk out, But if you were to change it,
- 6:31Speaker 5: you couldn't go wrong with maybe too nerdy for you,
- 6:33Speaker 5: but you could not go wrong with a Star Wars
- 6:35Speaker 5: theme that that a.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Star Wars weekend.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Star Wars.
- 6:41Speaker 7: Weekend, I think so.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I think so.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Marty's already angling for the marketing job.
- 6:46Speaker 5: And by the way, by the way, speaking of the
- 6:50Speaker 5: marketing job, Mason, you've had quite a stretch recently. You
- 6:54Speaker 5: have you have the bobblehead, you got the scrape bobblehead
- 6:57Speaker 5: from last the last homestand you have a deal with
- 7:00Speaker 5: dex Com. Wait here it is. And the reason why
- 7:02Speaker 5: I have this as big as my my brother in law,
- 7:04Speaker 5: Jack actually designed the G seven, the device that you
- 7:08Speaker 5: that you wear right now. So congratulations, and all these
- 7:10Speaker 5: deals and all the marketing that you've accomplished. So that's
- 7:13Speaker 5: a that's pretty cool. That's really cool.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 7:16Speaker 4: It's it's a good balance to you know, like fun
- 7:20Speaker 4: stuff and dex Com is obviously.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Something that I care a lot about and I'm really.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Looking forward to working with them hopefully as long as
- 7:27Speaker 4: I'm in San Diego and beyond, just because that's something
- 7:31Speaker 4: that affects me so much day to day.
- 7:33Speaker 3: That's an easy yes.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And then uh, something something to the likes of the
- 7:38Speaker 4: Star Wars commercial. It's like, yeah, that's pretty awesome life,
- 7:41Speaker 4: Let's go for it.

- 8:45Speaker 3: Thank you seat Geek.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I think it's amazing as well. And speaking of since before,
- 8:49Speaker 1: we'll get into some of the baseball stuff, or maybe not,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I mean.
- 8:52Speaker 3: We don't have to.
- 8:53Speaker 1: But one of the things you know that Marty's talking
- 8:55Speaker 1: about there with textcom and you know when I was
- 8:57Speaker 1: preparing for this, Mason, is I think everybody by now
- 9:00Speaker 1: knows your story. Everybody in San Diego knows your story
- 9:02Speaker 1: about being diagnosed with diabetes when you're twenty and how
- 9:05Speaker 1: it really and literally changed your career. One of the
- 9:08Speaker 1: things I think I didn't realize is I came across
- 9:11Speaker 1: a story about how young diabetics are finding a champion
- 9:13Speaker 1: in Mason Miller, and I don't know that I realized
- 9:17Speaker 1: that you have young fans correct me if I'm wrong
- 9:20Speaker 1: here pretty much every stop along the way for you
- 9:24Speaker 1: as a home player, as a visiting player, fans young
- 9:27Speaker 1: fans in particular, who show up who have been diagnosed
- 9:31Speaker 1: with early diabetes, who do see a champion in you
- 9:34Speaker 1: and do want to meet you, not just because you
- 9:36Speaker 1: throw the ball one hundred and five miles per hour
- 9:38Speaker 1: and you're in a commercial, but because you're an inspiration
- 9:41Speaker 1: to them. I wonder if you could talk to us
- 9:43Speaker 1: a little bit about those experiences when they pop up
- 9:46Speaker 1: for you, not only in San Diego but in other
- 9:48Speaker 1: places when you're playing.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's an easy yes for me.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You know, it's not a huge lift on my end
- 9:56Speaker 4: in the PR department of all those guys. I mean
- 10:01Speaker 4: even when I was with the A's, the PR team
- 10:03Speaker 4: helped me so much with kind of starting to do this,
- 10:06Speaker 4: and then the Padres have also been awesome.
- 10:09Speaker 3: With it too.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Just bring a kid down on the field for batting,
- 10:13Speaker 4: get them batting practice passed, they can watch some batting practice.
- 10:16Speaker 4: I'll talk to them for like ten or fifteen minutes.
- 10:20Speaker 4: You know, it's like it's a cool baseball experience in
- 10:23Speaker 4: and of itself. And usually these kids are baseball fans
- 10:26Speaker 4: to a certain degree also, so they get that level
- 10:30Speaker 4: of things that like that's not something that every kid
- 10:32Speaker 4: gets to do. But also having the chance to talk
- 10:37Speaker 4: to me. I mean I was twenty years old when
- 10:40Speaker 4: I got diagnosed, but I still remember searching like type
- 10:43Speaker 4: one diabetic athletes on Google and seeing guys like Mark
- 10:47Speaker 4: Andrews pop up, who has also done a bunch with
- 10:50Speaker 4: dex Com and you know, Dexcomb's kind of just allowing
- 10:55Speaker 4: me to expand the reach of it. You know, We've
- 10:58Speaker 4: met at a Warrior Day at Petco and had had
- 11:01Speaker 4: eight kids there. So you know, I've tried to do
- 11:06Speaker 4: it as much as I can anytime that it comes
- 11:09Speaker 4: up on my radar, and like, I'll see a kid
- 11:11Speaker 4: tomorrow here in Milwaukee, and.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I tell the kids.
- 11:15Speaker 4: It's as cool for me because you know, I get
- 11:18Speaker 4: I get to be that person that you know, I
- 11:21Speaker 4: was kind of looking for, and it was a little
- 11:23Speaker 4: bit different because I wasn't their age, but in the
- 11:26Speaker 4: same light, you know, you I saw that there were
- 11:29Speaker 4: athletes playing sports with type one, and at that point,
- 11:32Speaker 4: it wasn't even about playing professional baseball. It's just about
- 11:34Speaker 4: playing sports in general and seeing that they have the
- 11:38Speaker 4: level of success they do. There's no reason that you know,
- 11:41Speaker 4: I can't figure it out and do it as well.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I think the biggest key is just that it was
- 11:46Speaker 4: always we're all different, and you know, it's an imperfect
- 11:51Speaker 4: level of care.
- 11:52Speaker 3: It's not like here's the roadmap and you know you're
- 11:54Speaker 3: gonna be great.
- 11:55Speaker 4: It's adjustments and learning and uh, you know, havingt cover
- 12:00Speaker 4: conversations too. I think it just gives you so much
- 12:02Speaker 4: more confidence.
- 12:03Speaker 3: They're like.
- 12:05Speaker 4: To be okay with not being perfect, I guess, you know.
- 12:07Speaker 4: And it's difficult for a lot of kids because sometimes
- 12:11Speaker 4: it's their parents doing everything and then they have to
- 12:13Speaker 4: transition to doing it all themselves. So it's almost like
- 12:16Speaker 4: two whammys of getting diagnosed. I guess, like they have
- 12:20Speaker 4: no idea what's going on when they're five years old,
- 12:22Speaker 4: so you know, once they get a little older and
- 12:25Speaker 4: they have to start taking over stuff, and there's probably
- 12:27Speaker 4: a little bit of disdain for it, and you know,
- 12:31Speaker 4: I think it does put the parents in a tough
- 12:32Speaker 4: place because they just want to care for their kids.
- 12:35Speaker 4: But it also is like kind of a nuisance to
- 12:38Speaker 4: the kid too. Sometimes they don't want to do it.
- 12:41Speaker 4: They just want to eat candy like everybody else.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I think J Color is the one.
- 12:46Speaker 5: The J Color is the athlete that comes to mind
- 12:48Speaker 5: when I think about some high profile athletes that dealt
- 12:51Speaker 5: with dealt with diabetes. Mason, what's the what's the what's
- 12:54Speaker 5: the question? The most common question that you give from kids.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Some kids come take some kids comes loaded up with questions,
- 13:02Speaker 4: and some kids don't have They get super shy, and
- 13:06Speaker 4: usually it's I just try and ask them what it's like,
- 13:10Speaker 4: what they like to do. Probably the one that gets
- 13:14Speaker 4: the best answers, in my opinion, is like what your
- 13:18Speaker 4: ask them what their least favorite part about having diabetes
- 13:21Speaker 4: is and what their favorite part is. And usually the
- 13:23Speaker 4: least favorite parts like I have to leave class at
- 13:26Speaker 4: school to go to the nurse's office, or.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Just waking up the middle of the night with.
- 13:33Speaker 4: The low or something to that nature, and favorite favorite
- 13:38Speaker 4: parts kind of range. I think that question catches a
- 13:41Speaker 4: lot of them off guard.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You know, what is what is your favorite part of And.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I, at least of my favorite part is that I
- 13:47Speaker 4: get to I get to meet with them and you know,
- 13:49Speaker 4: be an inspiration to them. Might good for you, Matt,
- 13:53Speaker 4: I tell them, it might not, it might not look
- 13:55Speaker 4: the same, but you know, someday you'll have the opportunity
- 13:58Speaker 4: to do this for somebody else.
- 14:00Speaker 3: And I don't know.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I just tell him, like, I hope that you would
- 14:04Speaker 4: do that because I don't know how much this means
- 14:07Speaker 4: to you. But it could it could be huge. It
- 14:10Speaker 4: could it could be bigger, it could be not. But
- 14:13Speaker 4: take the time or take the opportunity to talk to
- 14:15Speaker 4: somebody about it, if you ever get that chance.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Do you remember the first time you threw a hundred
- 14:18Speaker 1: miles per hour or the first time that you were
- 14:20Speaker 1: clock throwing a hundred.
- 14:23Speaker 3: A A C L.
- 14:24Speaker 4: After I got drafted with the a's that's that's fall.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I might have done it in college, but we didn't
- 14:29Speaker 4: have like radar and technology and all that stuff. That's
- 14:33Speaker 4: normal and broke ball.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, now it's so normal for you. Do
- 14:37Speaker 1: you remember, though, like the first time you're like, yo,
- 14:39Speaker 1: that's a hundred. That's trouble digits on the board there,
- 14:42Speaker 1: My goodness, Do you remember the reaction when you did it?
- 14:44Speaker 1: Like you said, you knew you were probably doing it anyway,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but to see it officially, document went back.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I went back and watched it on the on the computer,
- 14:51Speaker 4: so I have a picture of like the track man
- 14:53Speaker 4: log or whatever.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Yes, that's cool.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I mean it's like, so you're throwing hard, if you're
- 14:59Speaker 4: throwing like ninety ninety five, and then it's like you'd
- 15:03Speaker 4: be like, I want to.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Hit one hundred. I want to see three digits.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And do you take a peek at the board? I
- 15:10Speaker 1: mean at home or when you're on the road. I
- 15:11Speaker 1: mean sometimes, you know, these road board operators will mess
- 15:14Speaker 1: around a little bit with some of it. We've learned
- 15:15Speaker 1: throughout the years. But do you look over the shoulder
- 15:18Speaker 1: and take a peek to see what it looks like?
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:22Speaker 4: I mean there's there's some stadiums where it's not super convenient,
- 15:26Speaker 4: and there's other ones like Milwaukee where it's on the
- 15:28Speaker 4: facade right behind home plate. So I mean, you're a human,
- 15:32Speaker 4: so you're not going to miss that one.
- 15:35Speaker 9: I should I should know this.
- 15:36Speaker 5: But how many times have have you been involved in
- 15:37Speaker 5: an ABS challenge yet this season?
- 15:40Speaker 3: Yeah? Several.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I think the majority of them have gone my way,
- 15:45Speaker 4: though Freddy's got me. Freddie and Camp you've gotten me
- 15:49Speaker 4: a couple of pitches, and then I think we've also
- 15:54Speaker 4: challenged and late in the game and we have both
- 15:57Speaker 4: or one of our challenges left, and Freddie will challenged
- 15:59Speaker 4: something that's close that we're both like, that's probably a fall,
- 16:02Speaker 4: and usually that one is. But he's gotten some for me,
- 16:06Speaker 4: and I don't think there's been a like.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Real bad one that ha's hurt me.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I guess one was close against the Cardinals, the last
- 16:16Speaker 4: ipe against weather Hold, the one oh pitch, he challenge
- 16:21Speaker 4: weatherhold challenge it and it barely caught the inside corner.
- 16:25Speaker 2: So that was.
- 16:26Speaker 3: A big pitch to go one to one instead too.
- 16:29Speaker 5: How much do you trust yourself on the challenges or
- 16:31Speaker 5: you're leaving it to You're leaving it to your catchers.
- 16:35Speaker 4: I think I have a pretty good idea, but I
- 16:38Speaker 4: don't really have any interest in challenging just I feel
- 16:41Speaker 4: like it's like, if I feel pretty good about it,
- 16:44Speaker 4: I think that the catcher is also going to feel
- 16:46Speaker 4: pretty good about it. And I've told him that that.
- 16:49Speaker 4: You know, I'm trusting you. You a ton of pitches
- 16:52Speaker 4: every single day. You've seen where umpires are missing pitches.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You know, I'm coming into the game and like, visually,
- 16:59Speaker 4: I feel like I have a pretty good idea of it,
- 17:01Speaker 4: but uh yeah, I don't want to.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Pull the trigger on that and lose the guy's a challenge.
- 17:05Speaker 1: But see, Yeah, I don't think a pottery picture has
- 17:09Speaker 1: challenged yet. Yeah, I don't think a pottery picture is challenged.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Walker challenged one the other day. I think that was
- 17:16Speaker 3: the first one.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's it's such like a new system.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It's such a weird thing to try to get to
- 17:21Speaker 1: get used to as a matter of personal preference, do
- 17:24Speaker 1: you care? I mean, is it is it more enjoyable
- 17:25Speaker 1: for Mason Miller to to to strike somebody out swinging
- 17:30Speaker 1: or looking?
- 17:33Speaker 9: Mmm?
- 17:35Speaker 4: I don't really care if they count the same to me.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I think swinging is as they're both goods. Like I
- 17:42Speaker 4: executed a chase, picture executed a you know, I set
- 17:46Speaker 4: set up the path to get to a strikeout looking.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I don't strike out that many guys looking, But I
- 17:53Speaker 4: feel like I don't really discriminate on strikeouts. They're all
- 17:56Speaker 4: they're all my favorite.
- 18:00Speaker 3: That is such a great answer.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I do wonder like if it's more satisfying to watch
- 18:03Speaker 1: a guy just like ah to give up on or
- 18:06Speaker 1: just go, hey, listen, I got no chance, So I
- 18:08Speaker 1: ain't swinging anyway. Like so you know, I'm just gonna
- 18:10Speaker 1: leave it up to the umpire here right because I'm done.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I'm toast.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I got no chance in the situation. See, I want
- 18:16Speaker 1: them swinging, ridiculous, twist themselves into the ground.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that's usually the way that goes. Anyways.
- 18:23Speaker 4: That's the more clear too, Swinging over looking, Like it's
- 18:27Speaker 4: probably like eighty five percent swinging at this point, maybe
- 18:33Speaker 4: like four four of my four my thirty eight, I
- 18:38Speaker 4: can think of four four looking five looking.
- 18:41Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, so maybe a little bit more than that.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Mason, just a couple of quickies before we let you go,
- 18:47Speaker 5: because I know you had to get you a coffee person.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Uh not not as big as the next guy, but
- 18:53Speaker 4: I'll probably get something. Yeah, like if I go get breakfast,
- 18:56Speaker 4: I'll get a coffee. I'm not big on like I'm
- 18:58Speaker 4: gonna go to a coffee shop and just get a coffee.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Okay, Okay, So Michael King. When I spoke to Michael
- 19:02Speaker 5: King a little while ago, he said that, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 5: before he takes the mound, you know, he has to
- 19:06Speaker 5: to psych himself up, right, he has to get mad
- 19:09Speaker 5: at something. He'll invent being a reason to be angry
- 19:12Speaker 5: and use that fire. How do you get fired up
- 19:14Speaker 5: before you know you're about to go ahead and take
- 19:16Speaker 5: the mound? And I was telling Darren before you came on,
- 19:19Speaker 5: you're like the most chill person I have ever met
- 19:22Speaker 5: in sports. Like this, Darren, the way Mason is right now,
- 19:26Speaker 5: this is how he is pregame, this is how he
- 19:28Speaker 5: is postgame. You're just You're just super even keeled all
- 19:32Speaker 5: the time, how do you go ahead and flip that
- 19:34Speaker 5: switch when you pitch.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I think that's what competition brings out on you. I mean,
- 19:40Speaker 4: I do have the luxury of, like the game kind
- 19:44Speaker 4: of builds to the point of when I get to play,
- 19:47Speaker 4: so you know, seventh inning, eighth inning, I feel like
- 19:50Speaker 4: the adrenaline starts going, and you know, I just start
- 19:54Speaker 4: moving around the bullpen and throwing and just get the
- 19:57Speaker 4: opportunity to play.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Is kind of like all the energy I need.
- 20:01Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like I definitely have more more
- 20:05Speaker 4: emotion on the mound than I do like normally, But
- 20:08Speaker 4: I do think that like the even keel attitude is
- 20:12Speaker 4: also what allows me to have a lot of the
- 20:14Speaker 4: success I do because I don't you know, get too high.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Like my mound presence on Saturday with the bases loaded
- 20:26Speaker 4: was pretty similar to how it was with nobody on
- 20:31Speaker 4: and striking three guys out. You know, like that's something
- 20:34Speaker 4: that that I try to do because I look at
- 20:37Speaker 4: that as something that I can control. You know, I'm
- 20:39Speaker 4: not you know, starting to panic or letting things speed
- 20:42Speaker 4: up on me when when guys are on base, and
- 20:44Speaker 4: you know, I'm not like overly confident. I guess with
- 20:48Speaker 4: nobody on basis like I'm still executing, like I could
- 20:52Speaker 4: get hurt here. You know, I'm gonna be fine with
- 20:55Speaker 4: my pitches. I'm going to be in the zone, but
- 20:57Speaker 4: you know, I'm also going to respect the hitter in
- 20:59Speaker 4: the box and know that we're playing a close game
- 21:02Speaker 4: here at the end.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You know, every single pitch matters. Mason.
- 21:07Speaker 1: My final question on the way out, Marty and I
- 21:09Speaker 1: once did an interview with Houston Street a million years ago,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and when Houston Street was closing for the potrace, he
- 21:14Speaker 1: wore the number sixteen. I don't know if it's a
- 21:16Speaker 1: superstition or if it's a routine, right, routine. We're not superstitious,
- 21:20Speaker 1: We're routine oriented, as Trevor Hopman said, but he used
- 21:23Speaker 1: to set the alarm or or arrange for wake up
- 21:25Speaker 1: calls based on the number sixteen. So like nine oh seven, right,
- 21:28Speaker 1: like nine seven sixteen ten o six sixteenth. Do you
- 21:32Speaker 1: have anything any routines or superstitions if you prefer Is
- 21:35Speaker 1: there anything whether it's on the field, off the field, preparation,
- 21:39Speaker 1: game day, is there anything in your universe that you
- 21:41Speaker 1: would you would put in that kind of category. As
- 21:43Speaker 1: Houston Street for us.
- 21:46Speaker 4: I would say not till I get to the ballpark. No,
- 21:49Speaker 4: I don't have like an alarm system or anything like that.
- 21:54Speaker 4: I don't know that. To this question, I always just said,
- 21:57Speaker 4: like left suck first, But that's just more have it.
- 22:01Speaker 4: I think I don't like I do that if I'm
- 22:04Speaker 4: I'm me sitting here and going out or if I'm
- 22:06Speaker 4: going out to the field, like left socks first, right sock,
- 22:10Speaker 4: left shoe, right shoe?
- 22:12Speaker 3: About it?
- 22:12Speaker 4: I mean I thought I thought the same. I had
- 22:15Speaker 4: the same I had the same pair of socks for
- 22:18Speaker 4: pretty much my whole scoreless streak.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Then I threw them out when I was done.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Did you wash them the same pair of socks?
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, they get they get washed. Yeah, I'm not.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm not some animal.
- 22:34Speaker 6: And you tossed them.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I mean, people want to pay good money for that.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Man, they had they had a hole in them, so
- 22:39Speaker 4: they were like on their last legs.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Anyways.
- 22:41Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, I'm aware of certain things that
- 22:46Speaker 4: have been the same for a while, But what are
- 22:49Speaker 4: you gonna do? You know, that's kind of like it's
- 22:52Speaker 4: done that. I've done that with cleats in the past. Too,
- 22:54Speaker 4: like if I, like, if I gave up runs out
- 22:57Speaker 4: to take my cleats off after and just throw them out,
- 22:59Speaker 4: but I've stopped doing that.
- 23:02Speaker 5: So you should have sent those socks to the Padres
- 23:05Speaker 5: Hall of Fame. There's a hall of fame out there
- 23:07Speaker 5: in the western Middle supply buildings.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Nobody sent them to Clay Meredith.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Sent, we sent, we sent walleeball.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So maybe I think we're seeing if they want to
- 23:21Speaker 4: come to UH any of these East Coast trips and
- 23:24Speaker 4: then maybe meet up for a game on the field
- 23:26Speaker 4: or something.
- 23:27Speaker 3: But yeah, that was a cool video that they said that.
- 23:30Speaker 3: That was awesome with them to do.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Mason, congratulations to you and your wife. I'm sorry you're
- 23:36Speaker 5: expecting your first your first, your first baby, so huge
- 23:39Speaker 5: congratulation to the expanding Mason Miller family.
- 23:42Speaker 2: That's freaking awesome.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Love it you have your own baby, Yoda come in.
- 23:47Speaker 9: Yeah, I love it.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Thank you very much for doing this, Mason. We appreciate it.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Appreciate it too.
- 24:05Speaker 10: It's another episode of splash Shit Territory. We've been trying
- 24:09Speaker 10: this for ten minutes to get the tech right. But
- 24:11Speaker 10: we got a special guest today, so nice for you
- 24:14Speaker 10: to join us.
- 24:14Speaker 6: He's in his.
- 24:15Speaker 10: Hotel room in La I'm in my hotel room in La.
- 24:17Speaker 10: Susan Sluster's in her hotel room in La. Casey Schmidt
- 24:20Speaker 10: joins the show casey Man, thanks for making time.
- 24:22Speaker 6: I appreciate it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, thanks for having me.
- 24:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I don't even know where to start.
- 24:27Speaker 6: I don't even really know where to start right now.
- 24:29Speaker 10: I guess we will start with a little fun. I
- 24:33Speaker 10: guess you've been moving all around. You're a utility guy now.
- 24:37Speaker 10: I mean you're playing first and second and third, haven't
- 24:41Speaker 10: really got the shortstop yet. I saw you shaggy with
- 24:44Speaker 10: fly balls in the outfield the other day.
- 24:46Speaker 6: I mean, how are you doing all this?
- 24:47Speaker 10: And you're a DH and raking, so you've got so
- 24:50Speaker 10: many things going on every day and you're still so
- 24:52Speaker 10: successful so far this year, Like, how are you managing
- 24:56Speaker 10: all of this and how are you succeeding?
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 24:59Speaker 2: I think it's uh.
- 25:00Speaker 11: I think it's just taken a couple of years of
- 25:02Speaker 11: experience of doing it. But yeah, but I think from
- 25:06Speaker 11: what I found is just keeping it as simple as
- 25:08Speaker 11: possible and you know, not.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Not overcook it.
- 25:13Speaker 11: You know. I think, you know, before I would maybe
- 25:15Speaker 11: overcook things a little bit, you know, with kind of
- 25:18Speaker 11: just the moving around. But I think just keeping it
- 25:21Speaker 11: as simple as I can is just really helped me
- 25:23Speaker 11: a lot, helped me out a lot.
- 25:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a that's a great attitude to have.
- 25:29Speaker 10: Do you mind if I share the funny story we
- 25:31Speaker 10: talked about on the bench the other day with your glove,
- 25:33Speaker 10: because I think it's awesome.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:36Speaker 10: So, yeah, you were telling me that all of a sudden,
- 25:39Speaker 10: the giant said we want your shag in the outfield.
- 25:42Speaker 10: You panicked a little bit and you ordered a glove
- 25:45Speaker 10: on Amazon. One of the best stories I've ever heard.
- 25:48Speaker 10: Could you share that with us right now?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Yeah? So I ordered, I ordered too. I ordered one
- 25:54Speaker 2: with my agent, and then I ordered one.
- 25:57Speaker 11: On Amazon just I could have, you know, two, so
- 26:00Speaker 11: I could see which one I would like better. And
- 26:02Speaker 11: then it turned it out the one that I would
- 26:04Speaker 11: on Amazon. I ordered it to be it was a
- 26:07Speaker 11: left handed glove on accident.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was.
- 26:11Speaker 11: Yeah, it was kind of was a little bit of
- 26:13Speaker 11: a mix up, but uh, but we were I returned it,
- 26:16Speaker 11: so we're good target.
- 26:20Speaker 12: Yeah, go ahead, season, Yeah, Casey, I mean you're you're
- 26:23Speaker 12: multi talented, but you're not ambidextrous yet, but maybe.
- 26:26Speaker 9: You could work on it. Maybe you could work on that.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it would be an off season.
- 26:32Speaker 12: How are things going to the outfield? Do you feel
- 26:34Speaker 12: comfortable there? Like, could you play there in a pinch?
- 26:37Speaker 2: Yeah? I think so.
- 26:39Speaker 11: You know, I played there, and it's obviously it's obviously different,
- 26:42Speaker 11: but I played there my first first two years of
- 26:45Speaker 11: high school. I had some experience playing left right center,
- 26:48Speaker 11: So it's it's it's it's foreign, but you know, it's
- 26:51Speaker 11: just taking a little bit of reps, just kind of
- 26:54Speaker 11: get to get me back in the the move of things.
- 26:56Speaker 11: You know, obviously the balls go a lot higher, but uh, yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 11: I mean I'm feeling good out there.
- 27:02Speaker 2: It's uh, it's feeling more comfortable every single day.
- 27:05Speaker 11: I've been making sure i'm you know, out there with
- 27:08Speaker 11: with Jason and uh just just doing things to be
- 27:11Speaker 11: out there, and uh, I just just get as.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Get as comfortable as I can be out there.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Do you be sick to see you play right one
- 27:18Speaker 6: game and just see the.
- 27:19Speaker 10: Cannon unleashed, like, let it eat on a medium fly
- 27:23Speaker 10: ball and.
- 27:23Speaker 6: A sack fly I want to see that.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see if I got the opportunity for that one.
- 27:32Speaker 12: Do you order any other stuff off the internet? Like
- 27:35Speaker 12: do you order all your equipment off the internet?
- 27:40Speaker 11: Some sometimes this this last this, this this offseason, I
- 27:45Speaker 11: found uh, I found some some really like cool like
- 27:50Speaker 11: Nike cleats that were orange that were from like the
- 27:52Speaker 11: last year's model.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And I really liked the last year's model.
- 27:55Speaker 11: So I found like three or four pairs on eBay
- 27:58Speaker 11: and I just I just I just got I got
- 28:00Speaker 11: him and I started him in my room and now I'm.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Using them for the season.
- 28:05Speaker 9: Very resourceful.
- 28:07Speaker 10: Yeah, I think we've determined that Casey Schmid is addicted
- 28:10Speaker 10: to Amazon and eBay uh in the show yet. But
- 28:15Speaker 10: hey man, didn't Ernie Clements for the Blue Jays get
- 28:18Speaker 10: his glove off eBay and he said it's the best
- 28:20Speaker 10: glove you ever had, something like that.
- 28:22Speaker 11: I remember, Yeah, I heard that story during the during
- 28:25Speaker 11: the world too. Yeah, I remember them talking about that
- 28:28Speaker 11: on the broadcast.
- 28:31Speaker 10: A see talk about d H and you know that's
- 28:34Speaker 10: not an easy thing to do, especially for a younger
- 28:36Speaker 10: guy that's you know, can play any position, play at
- 28:39Speaker 10: a high level in your routine. And how you've kind
- 28:42Speaker 10: of embraced this thing because you talk to guys oft DH.
- 28:45Speaker 6: Some will say you don't feel like you're part of
- 28:47Speaker 6: the game.
- 28:47Speaker 10: It's like four pinch hits, Like what's your routine and
- 28:50Speaker 10: how have you adapted so well to being a designated hitter?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think.
- 28:55Speaker 11: I mean the first time I did it, I was,
- 28:57Speaker 11: or the firston I did it this year. We were
- 28:59Speaker 11: in I think we're in Baltimore, and you know, I've
- 29:04Speaker 11: told this story a couple of times where the cage,
- 29:06Speaker 11: you know how far like the cage is from you know,
- 29:09Speaker 11: the the actual like clubhouse and like the dug out
- 29:12Speaker 11: of the tunnel, right, So there I was.
- 29:14Speaker 2: That was the first one I was doing it.
- 29:15Speaker 11: So I was like in my head, I'm like, okay,
- 29:16Speaker 11: I'm gonna go to the cage, get loose every single time,
- 29:19Speaker 11: and then get ready for my bat.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:21Speaker 11: Well, it turns out I was getting ready to hit
- 29:25Speaker 11: and you know, the inning are the inning end, and
- 29:28Speaker 11: so I was like, okay, I got I got time
- 29:30Speaker 11: to go to the cage. So I go to the
- 29:31Speaker 11: cage and by the time I got there, it was
- 29:35Speaker 11: like already like.
- 29:36Speaker 2: One out in the inning, and I was like, well,
- 29:38Speaker 2: that's that's not good.
- 29:39Speaker 11: So I took a couple of swings off the tee
- 29:42Speaker 11: and I was like, okay, this was like this.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Is this and then I go, I gotta go. I'm
- 29:45Speaker 2: watching on TV.
- 29:46Speaker 11: There's two awesome like and I'm leading off the inning,
- 29:48Speaker 11: so I'm like sprinting back. So I'm sprinting back to
- 29:51Speaker 11: the dugout and by the time I got by the
- 29:54Speaker 11: time I got there, it was already the third out
- 29:55Speaker 11: and I'm like already putting my stuff on it.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I'm like breathing.
- 29:57Speaker 11: I'm like like out of breath, like going up there
- 29:59Speaker 11: to to hit, and yeah, I was, and so I
- 30:04Speaker 11: ended up I am getting a double and I'm getting
- 30:06Speaker 11: a hit and then I was like, okay, I can't
- 30:09Speaker 11: do that again.
- 30:10Speaker 2: That was just that was just way too That was
- 30:12Speaker 2: too much exercise.
- 30:13Speaker 3: It was.
- 30:13Speaker 11: It was funny because me and Drew like we were
- 30:15Speaker 11: running like we were like running to the like to
- 30:17Speaker 11: the cage, and it was it was so far. But yeah,
- 30:21Speaker 11: then after that, we just we ended up just putting
- 30:23Speaker 11: a t and then a net in the locker room.
- 30:26Speaker 11: And so from from that point, I was just like, Okay,
- 30:29Speaker 11: I'm just gonna do more up swings and the tea
- 30:31Speaker 11: in the locker just keep it as simple as possible.
- 30:34Speaker 11: And I just did that, and it's just had it
- 30:37Speaker 11: had some success with him. It's just they're just keeping
- 30:39Speaker 11: it simple and over you know, not overcooking it, just
- 30:43Speaker 11: going up there and just hitting off the tee and
- 30:45Speaker 11: just keeping it as simple as possible. And uh yeah,
- 30:49Speaker 11: Now I just kind of just been doing that when
- 30:50Speaker 11: I d H just going there, hit hits them off
- 30:53Speaker 11: the tee, you know, keep them, keep them off the
- 30:56Speaker 11: low liners.
- 30:57Speaker 2: And yeah, I just go from There's.
- 30:59Speaker 12: So funny, Casey, because you went you'd been their pregame
- 31:04Speaker 12: that first day in Baltimore.
- 31:05Speaker 9: I think you'd been out that way and you went
- 31:07Speaker 9: walking past me.
- 31:08Speaker 12: I was waiting to go get in and talk to
- 31:09Speaker 12: Craig albernast in Baltimore, and you were like, it's so far,
- 31:14Speaker 12: so far, and I was kind of gave you like
- 31:17Speaker 12: a poor baby, are you gonna be okay?
- 31:19Speaker 9: I didn't realize that was going to be like a
- 31:21Speaker 9: formative moment for you. pH Yeah, I was.
- 31:26Speaker 11: I came back and I was like in the middle
- 31:29Speaker 11: of the game and I was like I was, I
- 31:31Speaker 11: was literally out of breath.
- 31:34Speaker 10: For everybody watching this in Baltimore, there's a bunch of
- 31:37Speaker 10: steps that go down to the clubhouse.
- 31:39Speaker 6: Then there's the clubhouse. Then you go outside the.
- 31:41Speaker 10: Clubhouse into the tunnel into the hallway that you enter
- 31:44Speaker 10: the clubhouse.
- 31:45Speaker 6: And that's where the cages.
- 31:46Speaker 10: So that's a long way for Casey to get all
- 31:48Speaker 10: the way through the clubhouse down the stairs.
- 31:51Speaker 6: So it is a hike, and it sounds like.
- 31:54Speaker 2: The whole entire thing.
- 31:56Speaker 10: Yeah, the other out of the stadium. So it's a
- 32:02Speaker 10: long way before we get to the ball club. Casey out.
- 32:05Speaker 10: I want to ask you, do you think of yourself
- 32:08Speaker 10: as a utility player or you know, because you're just
- 32:11Speaker 10: trying to help the team win right now, or do
- 32:13Speaker 10: you see yourself someday being a gold Glove quality third
- 32:16Speaker 10: basement Because that play you made at Mookie Betts last night, Dude,
- 32:19Speaker 10: that was one hundred and six off the bat and
- 32:21Speaker 10: you just went to your left backhand boom feed a
- 32:23Speaker 10: second double play on a really fast runner. I think
- 32:26Speaker 10: you could be a gold glove third basement. Do you
- 32:28Speaker 10: see that in your future or do you just whatever
- 32:30Speaker 10: it takes right now?
- 32:32Speaker 11: I mean, obviously it's it's whatever it takes, you know.
- 32:35Speaker 11: I just I just want to be out there as
- 32:37Speaker 11: much as I can. And you know, the way that
- 32:40Speaker 11: I think about it is, you know, wherever, wherever I'm
- 32:42Speaker 11: at that day, that's I want to be the best
- 32:44Speaker 11: version of that. You know, whether I'm at you know,
- 32:46Speaker 11: left field and will be the best left field or today,
- 32:48Speaker 11: whether I'm at second wing to be the best second
- 32:49Speaker 11: basement today, at first at best you know, first baseman today, and.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Just just just go about it that way.
- 32:55Speaker 11: And you know, I think I've I've spent a lot
- 32:58Speaker 11: of time just over over thing, a lot of a
- 33:01Speaker 11: lot of stuff, you know, throughout my beout the beginning
- 33:04Speaker 11: of my career. So I think just just going out
- 33:06Speaker 11: and just keeping it, keeping it simple, yeah, not not
- 33:11Speaker 11: looking too far in the future, not looking you know,
- 33:13Speaker 11: in the past, but just kind of just staying stay
- 33:15Speaker 11: eating keel.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Yeah, Katie.
- 33:18Speaker 10: I used to have a theory and this was in
- 33:20Speaker 10: my head that I played second, short and third center,
- 33:23Speaker 10: left and right that I wanted if a fan came
- 33:25Speaker 10: to the ballpark that day, say there's a good second basement,
- 33:29Speaker 10: not there's a utility player second basement.
- 33:31Speaker 6: Her, boy, that guy's really a good center fielder.
- 33:33Speaker 10: So that was like the trick I played in my
- 33:35Speaker 10: mind where I got my work in every day at
- 33:37Speaker 10: that position, and I didn't want fans that saw me
- 33:40Speaker 10: for the first time to ever think I was a
- 33:41Speaker 10: utility player.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Mmmm.
- 33:45Speaker 11: Yeah, I just yeah, that's kind of how I think
- 33:47Speaker 11: about it. It's just wherever, wherever I'm out that day, that's.
- 33:49Speaker 2: What i'm That's what it is, that's what that's that's
- 33:51Speaker 2: that's who I am today.
- 33:53Speaker 6: Yeah, and you're doing a great job at it. Talk
- 33:55Speaker 6: about the ball club right now.
- 33:56Speaker 10: I mean a couple of great wins in Los Angeles,
- 33:59Speaker 10: the twelve NUM one walk off at home, the vibes
- 34:01Speaker 10: in the clubhouse. You guys seem to be playing with
- 34:03Speaker 10: a lot more energy, a lot more excitement, a.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Lot more enthusiasm.
- 34:07Speaker 10: You fist pumping at first the other night when you
- 34:09Speaker 10: Tomahawk could base hit the left center field Jung, who's
- 34:12Speaker 10: screaming on second base last night after his double.
- 34:15Speaker 6: It seems like you guys.
- 34:15Speaker 10: Are starting to take on the personality or manager a
- 34:18Speaker 10: little bit. Did he say something or has this thing changed?
- 34:22Speaker 10: But you guys are playing some really good baseball.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 11: I think I think it's just been you know, we
- 34:26Speaker 11: were just waiting for that that one, that one moment
- 34:29Speaker 11: to kind of just just to to get everything going.
- 34:32Speaker 2: And I think the last series is is.
- 34:34Speaker 11: Kind of what what got us there, and I think
- 34:37Speaker 11: we just we just could just continue to build off
- 34:40Speaker 11: of that, and you.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Know, it's it's just been a it's been a it's
- 34:44Speaker 2: been a good vibe.
- 34:45Speaker 11: You know, we've we've all were all really we're really
- 34:47Speaker 11: tight group, and you know, we all love being around
- 34:50Speaker 11: each other, and we're all rooting for each other, and
- 34:51Speaker 11: we're all just we're all having a lot of fun
- 34:53Speaker 11: and you know, just just keeping it just keeping it
- 34:56Speaker 11: as as simple I keep saying simple, But that's that's
- 34:59Speaker 11: kind of that. The main thing is just to go
- 35:02Speaker 11: out and have fun and be competitive and just just
- 35:05Speaker 11: to play hard.
- 35:06Speaker 2: And that's that's what we're doing right now. And you
- 35:08Speaker 2: know it, like I.
- 35:09Speaker 11: Said, it felt like it it kind of started with
- 35:11Speaker 11: that last series with that walk off that Hey SU's hit,
- 35:15Speaker 11: and it's kind of just brought us all all in
- 35:18Speaker 11: and now now do you feel like we're starting to
- 35:21Speaker 11: kind of find ourselves.
- 35:23Speaker 12: It's funny, Casey, because you guys had that terrible road
- 35:26Speaker 12: trip obviously and losing his doubleheader in Philly, and then
- 35:30Speaker 12: you know not great games in Tampa, and I remember thinking,
- 35:35Speaker 12: and I might have even written like this, this seems
- 35:38Speaker 12: this almost feels like one of those this is rock bottom.
- 35:41Speaker 12: We're going to look back and remember this after things
- 35:44Speaker 12: turn around.
- 35:46Speaker 9: Did did it kind of feel like? That's to you guys?
- 35:49Speaker 12: Like all right now we really you know that? Then
- 35:51Speaker 12: there was booing at home on Saturday night. Willia Domas
- 35:54Speaker 12: said something to the effect like, you know what, I
- 35:56Speaker 12: have not heard that from home fans ever, and.
- 36:00Speaker 9: He's like, I understand why they did it.
- 36:01Speaker 12: He's like I deserved it, Like we haven't been playing well,
- 36:04Speaker 12: and you felt like that kind of kicked him into gear.
- 36:06Speaker 9: How did you feel about all of that?
- 36:09Speaker 11: Yeah, I think you know, going back to that Philly series,
- 36:12Speaker 11: you know it was it was obviously, you know, it
- 36:16Speaker 11: was tough. You know, there's the games were so close,
- 36:18Speaker 11: and you know, we just we just didn't get the
- 36:21Speaker 11: big hit, and you know they ended up getting the
- 36:23Speaker 11: big hit. But yeah, yeah, the booing at home, you know,
- 36:27Speaker 11: that's obviously not something you want to you want to hear,
- 36:30Speaker 11: but I think that's, you know, it's it's you know,
- 36:33Speaker 11: got us going a little bit because you know, we
- 36:34Speaker 11: we we want to go out and we want to
- 36:36Speaker 11: put on a show for those fans, and we want
- 36:37Speaker 11: to win for them, and you know, we're doing everything
- 36:40Speaker 11: we can. And yeah, we feel like right now we're
- 36:44Speaker 11: in we're in a good spot where we're kind of
- 36:46Speaker 11: finding who who our identity.
- 36:48Speaker 2: We know, we feel like we know who we are.
- 36:51Speaker 6: Are you in there tonight again?
- 36:52Speaker 11: So Tony, No, not tonight. I'll probably be in there
- 36:55Speaker 11: a little a little later, you will.
- 36:58Speaker 10: You'll be somewhere a little bit later or maybe a
- 37:00Speaker 10: big pinch hit late in the game. You talk about
- 37:04Speaker 10: you guys loving each other. Your outfield really loves each
- 37:06Speaker 10: other after a win. That was they're real close, and
- 37:12Speaker 10: that was I thought it was hilarious. But apparently Major
- 37:15Speaker 10: League Baseball didn't think of it as hilarious. But they
- 37:19Speaker 10: talked to you guys yesterday, say you got to clean.
- 37:22Speaker 6: It up a little bit.
- 37:23Speaker 11: I mean, from from what I know, it's from the
- 37:27Speaker 11: rule is three pumps.
- 37:29Speaker 2: That's that's why. That's that's what I've known, That's what
- 37:33Speaker 2: I've heard.
- 37:36Speaker 11: I mean, it happened to to recoder.
- 37:41Speaker 10: Carolina watched the video this morning on the group chat.
- 37:46Speaker 6: You know, I was dying.
- 37:47Speaker 10: There's a there's a video with this comedian and I'm
- 37:49Speaker 10: drawing a blank on his name where he scores touchdowns
- 37:51Speaker 10: and it's a parody thing and it's.
- 37:53Speaker 2: A it's a key and peel sketch.
- 37:55Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Yes, if you do.
- 37:57Speaker 10: Three pumps, it's a penalty. And anyway, we're getting deep
- 38:01Speaker 10: in the weeds right now. But yeah, I liked the
- 38:04Speaker 10: bout last night.
- 38:04Speaker 9: That was cool.
- 38:06Speaker 6: I think it'd be cool. You know how the Mariners
- 38:08Speaker 6: do the thing where they.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Do the kicks.
- 38:09Speaker 10: I think it'd be cool if you guys all got
- 38:11Speaker 10: together after the game.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Up a little bit.
- 38:16Speaker 11: Yeah, they're gonna they're starting to take like classes, so
- 38:20Speaker 11: they're gonna start doing some good stuff.
- 38:24Speaker 6: That's good stuff. So you got one more for Casey,
- 38:26Speaker 6: so we can let them. Let them go.
- 38:29Speaker 9: Well, I mean, it's the Dodger series.
- 38:31Speaker 12: I feel like, you know, a little remiss just to
- 38:33Speaker 12: not you mentioned Otani, but uh, you know, they're they're
- 38:37Speaker 12: a little bit down now. Tony Vaitello has talked about
- 38:40Speaker 12: the importance just of winning divisions and games. How do
- 38:42Speaker 12: you guys look at these series especially you know, you
- 38:45Speaker 12: guys get off to a rough start, but now you're
- 38:47Speaker 12: playing well. Is there a sense like the Dodgers games
- 38:50Speaker 12: do mean a little bit more, either just.
- 38:52Speaker 9: Because of the division or because it's the Dodgers.
- 38:55Speaker 12: Or you know, the the Dalton rushing is added a
- 38:57Speaker 12: little more spice. It feels like sort of to this
- 39:00Speaker 12: series too, the Dodgers.
- 39:03Speaker 9: Are they still special?
- 39:05Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I I think I think the big
- 39:07Speaker 11: thing is is you don't want to look into the
- 39:09Speaker 11: other dugout and you know, be like, Oh, it's it's
- 39:13Speaker 11: this team, or oh it's you know, it's that team.
- 39:15Speaker 2: You want to play to the level that you're capable
- 39:17Speaker 2: of playing in.
- 39:18Speaker 11: I feel like for us, you know, we're we're playing
- 39:21Speaker 11: with we're playing at the level that we want to
- 39:22Speaker 11: play at, and you know, it doesn't matter who's who's in.
- 39:25Speaker 2: That other dugout. We want to we want to go
- 39:27Speaker 2: in there and we want to we want to get
- 39:29Speaker 2: that game.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Well, I got one more take me in the dugout.
- 39:32Speaker 10: When hasted a second home run last night, were you
- 39:34Speaker 10: guys losing your minds?
- 39:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're I mean we're freaking out.
- 39:38Speaker 11: I mean, I mean I I called the first one.
- 39:40Speaker 11: You can you can ask Hunter, you can ask Tang,
- 39:43Speaker 11: you can ask them. I said I said, I have
- 39:45Speaker 11: a host homer right here, and you hit and it
- 39:47Speaker 11: was literally two pitches later he swings and I looked
- 39:50Speaker 11: at him, went, yeah, I.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Told you called it.
- 39:54Speaker 9: I didn't.
- 39:54Speaker 12: I didn't.
- 39:55Speaker 2: This The second one was good, but man, he almost
- 39:57Speaker 2: had that third one.
- 39:59Speaker 6: He almost had three.
- 40:00Speaker 11: I mean, I mean a hundred and eight to center.
- 40:03Speaker 11: That's that's gotta go.
- 40:06Speaker 6: Late in the game.
- 40:06Speaker 10: You know, you played enough games at Dodger Stadium. When
- 40:08Speaker 10: it gets cold, it's late, the ball goes nowhere. You
- 40:10Speaker 10: got to hit your taters early. When you hit your
- 40:12Speaker 10: Grand Slam last year? Was it that was earlier in
- 40:15Speaker 10: the game, wasn't it.
- 40:18Speaker 11: I want to say it was probably like the fifth
- 40:23Speaker 11: or sixth.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Man, it was like my second at bat or something.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's really enough.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.
- 40:30Speaker 11: Case I thought that one was gone, the one to center,
- 40:34Speaker 11: I did too.
- 40:35Speaker 6: I was.
- 40:35Speaker 10: I was laughing during the broadcast in the middle of
- 40:37Speaker 10: John Miller's call because I thought he had his third
- 40:40Speaker 10: and we were saying, if you got two, you're playing
- 40:42Speaker 10: with house money.
- 40:43Speaker 6: You gotta try for three. And that was for two strikes.
- 40:46Speaker 6: That was his two strike approach, and he almost went deep.
- 40:49Speaker 3: That was awesome.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Gosh, that would have been great. But yeah, two homers
- 40:53Speaker 2: is pretty cool.
- 40:54Speaker 6: It is well, it's pretty cool that you came on
- 40:56Speaker 6: here today. Case.
- 40:56Speaker 10: We really appreciate it. Man, I'll see you at the
- 40:59Speaker 10: yard and a little bit. It's great job. You're killing it.
- 41:02Speaker 10: Keep it up, keep keep it simple, baby, Seaball. Hit ball,
- 41:05Speaker 10: catch ball, throwball, keep it simple. You're doing a great job.
- 41:08Speaker 10: We appreciate you coming on.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Thank you having me, of course, thank you, all right,
