- 0:30first, welcome, and you want to find the regular Treehouse Podcast, where
- 0:33we talk about a bunch of other just just a name stupidity outside of sports
- 0:37stupidity, you can find us there. Otherwise, if you're from the regular
- 0:41Treehouse and you found yourself in the football podcast, welcome, because now we're
- 0:44going to talk sports stupidly in our own special wave. So let's not let's
- 0:52not waste any time. Cowboys Week two, Yeah, are now two and
- 0:58oh against the State of New York. Yeah, that's uh. And they
- 1:04look, man, do they look? I was when when they when they
- 1:08let go of Kellen Moore, who I last season, was like, I
- 1:12can't believe they canna do that. He's the brains behind the play calling us.
- 1:17He's young, and he's he's got ideas and he's got a new way
- 1:21of looking at things. And now I'm like, that was a good move
- 1:25because you put it back in the hands of Mike McCarthy, and you got
- 1:29Dan Quinn doing his magic and they look really not I hope I don't jinx
- 1:34it, but they look really good, uh do? And I give yourself
- 1:38that amount of power to Jinks the most successful sports franchise on the planet.
- 1:44They will do that on their own at some point, as we all know
- 1:49as lifelong Dallas Cowboys fans, they will find a way to disappoint us.
- 1:53We cannot do anything to Jinks them that they will not do themselves first.
- 1:57So don't don't listen to anyone ever gives themselves that power to be able to
- 2:02derail a train that was all writing on one wheel anyway. Yeah, because
- 2:08that being said, for the last pushing thirty years since the Cowboys have won
- 2:14a Super Bowl, Yeah, the Cowboys train has been on one side,
- 2:19right, It's just a matter of it's gonna tip over. Yeah, But
- 2:23for thirty years it has not gotten fully back on track. But this year
- 2:28is starting out how a handful of other years have in the past thirty years
- 2:31since the Cowboys won a Super Bowl, Which is, they're on that one
- 2:36side of the track, But it looks like they're leaning towards getting fully back
- 2:40on track and headed towards a super Bowl. But again, we're this is
- 2:46sort of like you know, Charlie Brown and the football. We're used to
- 2:49it being pulled out from underneath this somewhere in the divisional round of the playoffs.
- 2:52So we're cautiously optimistic. Yeah, I mean, I again, if
- 2:59they can, if they can maintain like if everybody stays healthy, and and
- 3:04I love everybody's and I'm just watching Sports Center. I just love everybody's idea
- 3:07of played towards Michael Parsons. I'm like, please, do played towards it.
- 3:14Run the balls. You're just running his direction. I'm like, that
- 3:16sounds great. You guys keep you know what real quick just and and I
- 3:19don't. I don't want to get into the nuts and bolts on that strategy
- 3:23too much. But I will say this, so far in Michael Parson's career,
- 3:27he has shown you not to run away from him because he will run
- 3:30you down like a lion. So you know what, run at him,
- 3:35give it a shot. It's it's it's it's better than doing the same thing
- 3:38and not being successful. And I think that's what if you're watching Sports Center
- 3:43in the early in the morning, I think that's uh, I can't remember
- 3:46his name as young kid. He's like, I think that's his philosophy.
- 3:49He's like, hey, how could it hurt? The other stuff's not working
- 3:53at that point. It's the definition of insanity. So the other option,
- 3:57the other option is to hire a literal big game hunter to come to the
- 4:01stadium and shoot Micah I'm a lion Parsons dead on the field before the game
- 4:06starts. That's your only other option, Trey, No, it's just I
- 4:10mean, at a certain point, element of surprise, everyone goes away from
- 4:14Micah so c see something coming at him, he might just for a split
- 4:17second go what the hell long enough for blocked. A bit later that,
- 4:23you know, maybe he might go from I'm a lion to deer in the
- 4:26headlights. Switch will work probably for one play. If it works, it
- 4:31might work for one play after that. Now he's gonna be ready for it,
- 4:34and he's gonna be standing there with his jaws open, just ready to
- 4:38eat whatever comes at him. Well, yeah, yeah, go ahead.
- 4:42No, he's also if you get that one play off with him, yeah,
- 4:46he's gonna be pissed. You got a whole other problem. Oh no,
- 4:53you're right, like he already plays. He already plays with a chip
- 4:56on his shoulder and every other joint. So do you really wants a great
- 4:59point trade? That's a great point trade. Do you really want to piss
- 5:01him off even more? Yeah? I would just love to hear that on
- 5:05the opposing team sideline, like, hey, I think we made him mad.
- 5:11Just imagine, just imagine the team that decides to run at Michael Parsons
- 5:15one time, just to try that theory, right, yeah, and then
- 5:18he devours that team that offense for the rest of the game based on that
- 5:24one play. Now, imagine you're a player on the offensive side of the
- 5:29ball in the next week's opponent for the Cowboys, and and the game plan
- 5:33up on the screen that the coach puts up is we're hang on, I
- 5:40lost my train of thought. But the game plan is just nothing with Michael
- 5:43Parsons. Yeah, I just I just want to I just want to be
- 5:46in that coach's huddle when they're like, hey, so whose idea was this?
- 5:51Who decided to do this? Can we call a time out? We're
- 5:55in the locker room. No, we can't call it time out. He's
- 5:59coming for us now, and he's angry. Let send him flowers like I
- 6:02don't, I don't know what you would do at that point, like to
- 6:05me, like I said, he like you were saying, he plays with
- 6:08like I think he plays angry like like that's what it like. He plays
- 6:13like they've they've offended him by by showing up in his house like that.
- 6:16That's that's how we played And if every if everybody can get on board with
- 6:21doing that. I was going to ask this, and only because I come
- 6:27from the the underdog big billy, and I talked about this when I did
- 6:31the radio the other day. Is my my first season of high school football.
- 6:35Not to brag, I played nine seconds and uh no, it was
- 6:43glorious because I also got illegal motion, uh in nine seconds and I was
- 6:46pulled off the field. So in nine seconds, I was removed from the
- 6:50field with a penalty. Uh so. So so far, this story has
- 6:55lasted longer than your football playing days. When it comes to the Jets quarterback
- 7:02Wilson, is is it fair? Okay? Is they're calling him the worst
- 7:08quarterback in the NFL. That's statistically he is right, But then when he
- 7:11has the offensive line doing what they're doing, he's the second best quarterback in
- 7:15the NFL as a week two when he has the opportunities that a quarterback would
- 7:20would normally have if it were Aaron Rodgers. Uh taking the snaps? Is
- 7:26that is I don't know how this works as far as I mean, you
- 7:29you played played high school football and in trade you will understand this as well.
- 7:34You guys played. Is that a fair assessment to make? Like he's
- 7:38not His whole thing was I'm not going to be the guy, and now
- 7:43he is the guy and he's not the guy, and everybody's like, well,
- 7:46he's not the guy. He's like I've been telling you I'm not him.
- 7:48So is it? Is it a fair assessment to make for a player
- 7:54that isn't living up to the expectations of an Aaron Rodgers? You know,
- 7:58you see the point I'm trying to make, Like, I don't know why
- 8:01everybody's coming after the guy when he's already kind of gone. Yeah, I
- 8:05told you guys, I'm not the guy. I'm not. I'm not sure
- 8:07I'll let you take the first swing at this. I mean, you have
- 8:11two years of him playing that shows you he's not the guy he is.
- 8:16In my opinion, A bust is a first dround pick, but maybe a
- 8:20serviceable backup. And that's kind of where he is now. I mean,
- 8:24he's better than most backups. But my theory, go ahead, Tray,
- 8:30is he going to take you to the promised Land? I don't think so.
- 8:33I always so I look at that what you just said, Trey.
- 8:37One point is if if you can have just a serviceable quarterback take you two
- 8:43and win a Super Bowl, then that's then then it works. It doesn't
- 8:48matter whatever your pedigree is or was where you were drafted. Whereas if you're
- 8:54a top pick like Zach Wilson was. Believe he was number two in the
- 8:58in the draft after the Jets took a lot of things still have to fall
- 9:03into place for all that to work out. There's a lot of luck involved.
- 9:07There's a reason why Eli Manning and the Manning family did not want him
- 9:11going to San Diego and instead we're happy to send him to the Jets.
- 9:15And they manipulated that whole situation because they said to San Diego, we're not
- 9:20going to you do not pick us. Well, so he ends up in
- 9:24New York and he ends up winning a pair of Super Bowls, Whereas if
- 9:26he goes to San Diego, who knows. And then other teams where they've
- 9:30had really talented quarterbacks, sometimes they get drafted into just horrible situations. Bad
- 9:35coach, bad GM, bad franchise. Look at any quarterback that the Redskin
- 9:41Slash Commanders have taken in the last fifteen years. We'll tell you what I'm
- 9:46talking about, which is, sometimes you just get drafted into a bad situation.
- 9:48Doesn't mean you are a bad player. It just means if you were
- 9:52drafted into a good position, like say a Troy Aikman when he was taken
- 9:56number one by the Cowboys, phenomenal situation to be in and it worked out
- 10:00great. Well. If there was ever anyone who knows the perils of getting
- 10:03drafted to a bad team, it was Archie Manning. I mean, he
- 10:07suffered through like the horrible days of New Orleans. Yeah. But you know,
- 10:13if you're talking about serviceable, if you have the team around them,
- 10:16which you know, the team that comes to mind of serviceable quarterback winning a
- 10:22Super Bowl as the Baltimore Ravens, Yep, that's exactly what I hadn't in
- 10:26my mind. I could see his face both I mean, and it's both
- 10:31Dilferan and Flacco, I mean Flacco was I mean, but like he won
- 10:37the Super Bowl, got a big contract, and I think he died on
- 10:39the Jets. Speaking of which, I'd like to revisit that week to win
- 10:46Cowboys over Jets. It was seemingly a really bad week for the Jets.
- 10:50You lose Aaron Rodgers and his achilles on on Monday night, did that,
- 10:54and then you get your ass? What how did that not get the slow
- 10:58clap? It was a seemingly bad week for the Jets, Like because I'm
- 11:03not done setting it all up Roger joke. Yeah, so I don't think
- 11:07it was seemingly or maybe it was whatever, it was a bad week for
- 11:11the Jets. You had Aaron Rodgers on Monday night snap his achilles in front
- 11:15of everybody. Then not even a week later, they get their ass whipped
- 11:18in Texas by the Cowboys thirty to ten. And then the military lost an
- 11:24actual jet which made everything really really bad for Jets all around. Yeah,
- 11:28they didn't lose the pilot though, so that's a good thing. No,
- 11:31No, the pilot is safe. The pilot I think is in better shape
- 11:35than Aaron Rodgers achilles and is also in better shape career wise than Zach Wilson.
- 11:41Yes, I'd also like to point out that the Cowboys defense in two
- 11:45weeks, Granted it's only two weeks and this will change, but for two
- 11:48weeks, the Dallas Cowboys defense has scored the same number of touchdowns as its
- 11:54opposing offensive have sex if you want to be technical, Yeah, it's uh,
- 12:03and it's nice to see. I think I think he was out of
- 12:07rhythm the first week, but I think he's got his his swag back,
- 12:11as seeing Treyvon Diggs getting getting I think he got a second half, well
- 12:18he got a pick on second half, and I know they don't throw to
- 12:22to his side a lot, but it was nice to see because we would
- 12:26last year like it was just you just automatically assumed he was going to get
- 12:31two to three, uh, if he was on fire, two to three
- 12:35maybe per game, but at least two picks and it was not because I
- 12:41don't think he got one week one and yeah, which I just you're talking
- 12:48about that in the Cowboys defense. It reminds me of turnovers going back to
- 12:52how we started this, of running at Micah Parsons and that strip that he
- 12:56made, you know that, Yeah, you're all close to a touchdown and
- 13:01like you want to run it. That guy like that is you have you.
- 13:05This brings me back to one of my favorite sports moments of all time.
- 13:09Daniel appreciate this rage. I don't know because we never talked about it,
- 13:13but the kind of element of surprise you need to run it, Michael
- 13:18Parsons is the same when they let Benji Malina steal second base in that playoff
- 13:22game. The catcher was so shocked he couldn't even get the throw off in
- 13:28time. That Yeah, that was right there what you call an oh shit
- 13:33moment because the catcher see slow ass Benja Malina running towards the next base,
- 13:41and I'm sure the catch is like, wait am I. He's wondering,
- 13:45am I still coming down off the shrooms I had last night or whatever?
- 13:50Because that I can't be that. That doesn't happen. No, that's not
- 13:54it. Oh And then the next thing, you know, the entire dugouts
- 13:56yelling at him that it's happening, so, oh, what's happening? Oh
- 13:58I can't and then eat slow as he is, he's standing on top of
- 14:03the back. I don't think that was the technical term is stripping the ball.
- 14:07I think he was just like, give that to me, like that's
- 14:09the that's that's that's if you watch the replay of of Michael Parsons taking the
- 14:15ball, he was just like, that's not yours, like that, that's
- 14:18that's how we looked at it, like that's my ball, like and he
- 14:20and he just he took that from a grown man, like do we unders
- 14:24Like when I watched this stuff, like I watched it from a different perspective,
- 14:28I'm like, that's a grown man that just snapped that. He just
- 14:31no, this is what he said, is like give give me that.
- 14:35Also, when it comes to I always forget their age. I forget how
- 14:41young of a team that the Jets are and how seasoned the Cowboys are.
- 14:46If that is that we do want to say old, right, they're older
- 14:50players, Uh, they're not older season, but you're also dealing with a
- 14:54younger team. So I don't know. I thought they played really well.
- 15:00They look good. I was wrong in my assumption that Kelvin Moore was the
- 15:03brains of the operation like I thought he was last year, and dan Quinn's
- 15:09magic that that was my That's that's my assessment of Week two so far.
- 15:13So I mean week week six, I could be having like dan Quinn sucks
- 15:16like I don't know, but hey, everything seems to be working really well.
- 15:24I can't figure out why. Like I know, dan Quinn was mentioned
- 15:28with some head coaching jobs. Why I'm shocked that he didn't get one because
- 15:31I think it's because I don't think it's because a lack of desire on his
- 15:35part. I think it's because he has a sense of seeing this through.
- 15:43I think he I think he realizes that this team is really, really,
- 15:46really on the precipice of of of true success. Yeah, and I think
- 15:52he's connected enough to some of these players, like a Micah Parsons, that
- 15:58he really wants to be a part of something special like that and then go
- 16:03get another head coaching job. Like. I think this will be dan Quinn's
- 16:06last season as defensive coordinator for the cow unless unless something really just falls out
- 16:12and the train ends up in a ditch like we've seen previous seasons happen.
- 16:17I think if if they if they have success beyond the divisional round of the
- 16:22playoffs this year, I think dan Quinn will take a head coaching job next
- 16:26year. Wow. Okay, Well, because Dan dan Quinn signing in the
- 16:30first place was huge for the Cowboys. We didn't really we weren't really sure
- 16:33of it at the time, but then when they resigned him, that was
- 16:37one of their most important offseason acquisitions. Yeah, or dan Quinn, you
- 16:41know, he may have figured out that being the coordinator is a much easier
- 16:45gig. He can demand a high you know, probably be the highest coordinator
- 16:51salary, but without having all the crap that a head coach. Because I
- 16:53mean he got his That's what I was saying. Yeah, that's what That's
- 16:56the angle I would have taken, is exactly that, Like, why wouldn't
- 17:00you just get a higher paying defensive coordinator job instead of going for because then
- 17:06everything then the whole team rests on your shoulders as opposed to just one side
- 17:11of the ball. You know, I don't know. I don't know if
- 17:18the mindset that it takes to be the head like I don't have that in
- 17:22Like, I don't think I could do that. I don't think I could
- 17:23have all that weight on my shoulders every single week. It's like the same
- 17:29thing like with being a pilot, Like I don't know if I could do
- 17:32that and have all these people counting on me. I'm like, can I
- 17:34just be over here and I'll just do the defense. I'd rather take that
- 17:38responsibility. Like and if we're looking at it, and I don't think dan
- 17:41Quinn looks at it this way, but if you wanted to have this perspective,
- 17:45you you could, you could assign it. Which is dan Quinn's got
- 17:49a great gig because the only the only real game plan he would really have
- 17:53to do is to go to Micah Parsons before each game and whisper what he
- 18:00says the other team said about him on the other side of the field before
- 18:06kickoff, and then and then you just step back and you go to the
- 18:08safest place in the building, which is up in that booth, far away
- 18:12from the carnage that Michael Parsons is about to do. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 18:22He just basically his entire game plan could be all right, I'm gonna
- 18:25go down to the field, I'm gonna grab this little wind up stick on
- 18:27the back of Michael Parsons. I'm gonna wind it all the way up and
- 18:30then I'm gonna run away. Or he may just be biding his time thinking
- 18:37that McCarthy's gonna get fired and he goes down before the game. It just
- 18:40gives him some solid play calling. Hey, run more of those two yard
- 18:42outs. And that's the other strategy that I also think makes a lot of
- 18:48sense, which is basically what Jason Garrett did for a while. He could
- 18:52have gone off and got a head coaching job somewhere else, but he didn't
- 18:56because he knew he knew way Philip days were numbered and he was going to
- 19:02be the head coach of the Cowboys. And I think that actually is a
- 19:04great strategy in mind if you're Dan Quinn, which is look, Mike McCarthy's
- 19:07great. If we went ahead, if we went a foot jesus, if
- 19:10we win a football Bowl, if we win a Super Bowl together, this
- 19:14would be awesome. And I can go on and get a head coaching job
- 19:15with a with a with a Super Bowl ring, and that'll be great.
- 19:18Or I stay here. The Cowboys train falls off the tracks yet again,
- 19:22and Mike McCarthy loses his job, and Jerry Jones now loves dan Quinn promotes
- 19:27him to head coach, And now you've got a new head coaching job,
- 19:30and you get to go down to the field every day and tell Michael Parsons
- 19:33what the business is. Yeah, Okay, I'm now that's what I want
- 19:37to happen. Okay, let's screw this season, let's get down Quint next
- 19:42year. Look like that's what That's what in my head. I'm like,
- 19:45well, that would be that would be cool to see on the sideline,
- 19:48Like that would be an interesting, interesting take. Yeah. No, I
- 19:53still think. I still think even if that were to happen, if the
- 19:56Cowboys season falls apart, McCarthy gets fired and and Quinn gets promoted to head
- 20:00coach, I still think Dan Quinn is going to do the Micah Parsons wind
- 20:04up and then still run up to the booth above the field, just because
- 20:08it's safer that way. The only head coach in the booth. There's dangerous
- 20:17down there. It is. It's like he has to turn to his coordinators
- 20:21and actually be like, yeah, this is the safe is the best spot
- 20:22to be. You get to see everything and you don't get accidentally eaten by
- 20:26Micah Parsons, which is an unfortunate thing because if you're a teammate of Micah
- 20:30Parsons, you have to just give him a little bit of room so he
- 20:33doesn't you know, munch on you at the same time, he's gonna kill
- 20:38people. That's why I'm up here. I would love I would love to
- 20:44see a head coach in the in the booth. That would if I were
- 20:47ahead, That's where I would be like, I'm like, can I just
- 20:48sit? Yeah? I just sit and watched like you're the coach. Like
- 20:53I would have I would be by old high school coach. I would just
- 20:56have hot dog and popcorn and and a coke on, and you have the
- 21:02headphones on to make it look like you're doing some actual coaching, when in
- 21:06reality you're actually just listening to the Treehouse Football podcast. You're listening to the
- 21:15Treehouse visit us online, a Treehouse on Air dot com. You're listening to
- 21:34the Treehouse visitors online. That Treehouse on Air dot com helps. If I
- 21:48turned my mic on in the first two weeks season, it's still it's still
- 21:52a baby, but you can still glean some things out of two weeks,
- 21:56the Cowboys combined points are sixty to ten, So I feel I feel pretty
- 22:03good about going to Arizona facing the Owen two Cardinals in the late afternoon game
- 22:07on Sunday. Do you Trey have any at all trepidation about this game whatsoever
- 22:17or we get or are we about to go up like one hundred to thirteen
- 22:21as far as three weeks in the NFL season. And it always scares me
- 22:26to say this with the Cowboys and or Longhorns or any of my teams that
- 22:29I don't really have a lot of fear going into Arizona. I watched some
- 22:33of their game, I don't I didn't even know who's playing their quarterback.
- 22:37It's I think it's Hobbs. I have no idea who it is. And
- 22:41that's who Robert Redford played in the natural. He was a great right fielder.
- 22:47I don't you know. He was great at the play. I don't
- 22:49remember how good of an arm he had. But I don't like what the
- 22:53age would be on the Roy Hobbs character playing quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.
- 23:00The quarterback for Arizona is Josh Dobbs. So you may remember him from when
- 23:04he was playing with Tennessee last year, and he wasn't even on the team
- 23:11the week that they had to play the Cowboys, and Josh Dobbs, or
- 23:17maybe it was the week before he had been called up to Tennessee. Whatever
- 23:22it was, he wasn't on the team. They had major injuries in Tennessee.
- 23:27He ends up getting a call to come play football again, and I
- 23:32actually I think it was against Dallas. They lose twenty seven to thirteen,
- 23:36and honestly, it seemed like a great, great young man. He's a
- 23:41he went to college for aerospace engineering, so he's got a hell of a
- 23:47brain on him. But unless the Cowboys, unless Dak Prescott and Josh Dobbs
- 23:52are taking an aerospace engineering test, I like our I like our chances.
- 23:57Yeah, I don't think i've I mean I used to when I was playing
- 24:02fantasy football. I would keep up with the Cardinals because only because I had
- 24:04Larry Fitzgerald as my receiver. I don't think I've kept I don't think there's
- 24:11anything like major that's happened with that, like the major moves that have happened,
- 24:18or or a player acquisitions that have happened that would make it something that
- 24:23we would have to worry about, Like I'm yeah, I mean, Josh
- 24:26Dobbs as a quarterback is not one that should scare you as the Cowboys,
- 24:30especially when the previous time you played Josh Dobbs, the quarterback in Tennessee.
- 24:37His parents made the drive from Michigan and were caught on national television enjoying the
- 24:41game. Those those are the people that were viral last year after that game
- 24:52because it was a Sunday night football game or no Thursday night football game and
- 24:56Cowboys won twenty seven thirteen and his parents look like they had been abducted and
- 25:00forced to watch the game that their son played in. So I would imagine
- 25:06they're not going to be making a special trip for this game. That's the
- 25:11saddest picture of seed. Oh long, long story short. I feel like
- 25:18Trey, I feel highly confident that the Cowboys will move to three and zero
- 25:22after this week's game in Arizona. In trepidation on your part, No,
- 25:26I just you know, I'm that guy, right, I'm like, well,
- 25:27this is the one that they walk into going, oh, we got
- 25:30this. And there's a desperation on the side of the Cardinals of we've got
- 25:37to for our fans, for ourselves, for our morale, for our egos,
- 25:42we have to win this. And on the film side, the Cowboys
- 25:45going this is this, It's it's them and I That's when I worry,
- 25:51like they are the Cowboys going to come into light and then Arizona comes into
- 25:56heavy. So I mean, I don't think there's anything to worry about,
- 25:59but yeah, ahead, I think Arizona is such a dumpster fire after the
- 26:02Kingsbury experience that, I mean, you hired a coach that didn't even have
- 26:08a winning record at Texas Tech. Yeah, and then he drafts a quarterback
- 26:14that he likes, and mind you never forget this. Where Kingsbury really made
- 26:19his name was he was the O C at A and M when they had
- 26:23Manzel, which the circumstances that led into that year A and M new coach,
- 26:29quarterback no one's ever heard of in a new conference and teams they have
- 26:32never played before. Because other than that, then you watched the experience from
- 26:34then and then everyone figured it out and no big deal. Basically, Cliff
- 26:38Kingsbury got to ride the wave of being the new guy for a handful of
- 26:41years. He got to drive he got to drive Johnny the Johnny Football wave.
- 26:47And then you know, just because he's a good looking guy and for
- 26:52something. And I don't understand this. I don't understand this with NFL when
- 26:56it comes to coaches or quarterbacks of why they see someone who really doesn't fit
- 27:03the bill, but they think, oh, but with we can make him
- 27:07that guy. We see the potential no one else does. It's called arrogance.
- 27:11Yeah, that's what But that's what coaches like, that's what coaches do.
- 27:14Like when kids don't sign and this is just my perspective, kids don't
- 27:18sign up for peewee going I'm gonna be The coaches see that and go,
- 27:22that's gonna be the That guy's the quarterback. Like I see that leadership,
- 27:27that arrogance, that chip, whatever it is. So they want to cultivate
- 27:32that. Everybody wants to be the guy that picks the next big thing.
- 27:34Like, well, that's why I love about the Johnny Manzel story. I'm
- 27:37like, that dude was my spirit animal. That dude is signing autographs for
- 27:40money in college. I'm like, I love this dude. He was doing
- 27:44illegal stuff in college and I'm like, he's going to wash out so fast.
- 27:48I love this god like, but every coach like he's got he's got
- 27:52it, like we had we you know, and I hope he's not listening.
- 27:56But we had a quarterback in high school that everybody, I mean,
- 27:59they every coach was like, he is the real deal, and it couldn't
- 28:03have been more incorrect. Uh just just overall, you're just a good old
- 28:08fashioned flame out. Huh Yeah, I mean, but I mean everybody the
- 28:12coaches, that's who they pick like, that's that, that's the guy.
- 28:15So when you're talking about how he randomly picked the guy that he likes,
- 28:21I think that's what at the end of the day, I think that's what
- 28:23it is, like I can mold this man into what I want him to
- 28:26be. Well, look at look at Kingsbury's experience and his successes, and
- 28:32you know, you look at Johnny Menzel I believe I believe he had Baker
- 28:37Mayfield at one point, Okay, and so he likes undersized quarterbacks that you
- 28:44know, maybe can scramble. And you're right, every coach wants to be
- 28:47the guy that says I discovered that. Yes, And it's fine if you're
- 28:51in high school, even in college. Yeah, but in the pros where
- 28:56draft picks were your first round pick is so vital, and especially the quarterback
- 29:00position is so vital. One bad pick, you've just screwed your franchise for
- 29:04three to five years and you probably are going to get fired, which is
- 29:07exactly what happened to Cliff Kingsbury. And now he's going to have to start
- 29:11all over somewhere else trying to figure out, Okay, let me find a
- 29:14new tiny white guy to ride back into the NFL. No, he did
- 29:18what Kingsbury is actually at the for his looks everything. He now has the
- 29:25perfect job for him, which is the offensive coordinator of the USC Trojans.
- 29:30That is a good gig. And that's the sad thing is is when it
- 29:36comes time for meetings with his team and he puts up the game plan for
- 29:40the week, he's going to be really embarrassed when it has nothing to do
- 29:42with football and it's just photos of co eds that he's pre selected. And
- 29:52so we're talking more about Cliff Kingsbury than we are the actual coach of Arizona,
- 29:56which is which is which is the former defensive coordinate of the Eagles?
- 30:00Who is the coach of the I don't even yeah, who is any research
- 30:06before these shows? And you know what, I'm not mad about it.
- 30:10You know, it's just one of those there's no reason, there's no reason
- 30:12on this Treehouse Football podcast to get mired in details and facts let's just go
- 30:18on good old fashioned, stupid fan passion opinions and the occasional toilet joke.
- 30:26Yeah, I just I'm not worried. I guess that's why there was no
- 30:32So what you're saying is, now, after we just spent the last seven
- 30:36minutes or so decrying the arrogance, we're now being arrogant Cowboys fans, Which
- 30:44is what most other teams fan bases hate about us, is when we're just
- 30:48two weeks good, We're only two weeks good in this season, and we're
- 30:52already getting cocky about going on the road to Arizona? Are we? Are
- 30:56we being cocky? Our slogan is America's team. We just decided that for
- 31:03you. Like, that's that's that's the arrogance date is about when they Well,
- 31:07the other thing too is Cowboys fans didn't select that, Sham didn't select
- 31:12that. That was NFL Films. That's the Sable family's fault. And it
- 31:17just suck. Yeah. I like how they just walk around like we're America's
- 31:21too. I'm like, yeah, we we. When I was in Ireland,
- 31:25uh doing shows many years ago, and that was the number one selling
- 31:29hat in all of Ireland. Was the Cowboys hat and the second was the
- 31:33Yankees. I mean there is no yeah, there's no other franchise that has
- 31:37has been as mediocre as the Cowboys have for the last thirty years. And
- 31:42that and they're one of the few teams that still move the ratings needles tremendously.
- 31:48I mean, that's why they're always on the big game. They can
- 31:52suck, but they are still like either they love them or you hate them,
- 31:56but people will watch them absolutely, And that's the reason why we've got
- 31:59the three twenty five game in the afternoon Dallas on the road to Arizona.
- 32:04As Tray said, the only thing hotter in the Arizona Desert right now is
- 32:07the dumpster fire that is the Cardinals. I just love the term dumpster fire.
- 32:14I laugh every time I hear it. Has so many wonderful uses,
- 32:17whether it's sports or in life in general, or radio stations. Well played,
- 32:28well play advantage, thank you. Yeah, I think that that is
- 32:32the arrogance, right, Like I would have done. I would have done
- 32:37more research on the Arizona Cardinals when I was like, there's a chance they
- 32:40could win. When I asked you earlier, when I asked you do you
- 32:45have any hesitation or any trepidation about going on the road to Arizona, yours
- 32:49a respons world been. I am so not worried. I didn't even bother
- 32:52to look up who their head coaches or who their quarterback is. Yeah,
- 32:55I don't know who anybody on that team is. If I wasn't playing,
- 33:01if I was playing fantasy football, maybe, but uh no. The only
- 33:06thing I worry about is our arrogance going into it, like just just kind
- 33:10of taking it as like we got this. We don't have to show up
- 33:13and play as hard as we did the last two weeks. That's the only
- 33:16thing I worry about. Well, let's let's ride that wave of arrogance over
- 33:22into the college game, and let's touch on trays and let's touch on trays.
- 33:27Longhorns. What a perfect seg not bad? Huh not bad. Right
- 33:32as soon as I saw it, I was like, Yeah, I see
- 33:35an opportunity there. I'm gonna grasp it. I'm gonna grasp this opportunity much
- 33:39like Micah Parsons grasps quarterbacks. And that is Trey as a massive ut fan
- 33:47slash alum, someone who actually uh you know, threw some pads on at
- 33:53UT for for a short while. How is your long? I never threw
- 33:59them on. I just watch one day as I got invited to walk on,
- 34:01and I saw what they did to walk on, and I realized then
- 34:06that my football playing days were over. It was a wise decision. And
- 34:08look at you now. So let's ride that wave of Texas football arrogance over
- 34:15into the college side of things. Number three ranked UT who is now three
- 34:22and zero playing what is sometimes in its history a dangerous game with Baylor.
- 34:29Now Baylor now this has the same makings of Cowboys versus Cardinals. Cowboys are
- 34:34undefeated, Longhorns undefeated. Cardinals are don't have a win yet. Baylor has
- 34:40one win, but it was against the school whose initials are L I U.
- 34:45I didn't even bother to look up what school it was because I know
- 34:47they lost the next two games. And you know one of the schools that
- 34:51Baylor lost to Raja's Texas State, Yeah south with us, so well they're
- 34:57Texas State now when you were there in the Southwest, Texas so trade yea.
- 35:01So how how what's your arrogance meter playing playing a Baylor team that lost
- 35:08to Texas State. Any time you don't get something like that. Those guys
- 35:15tried well. The only, the only, the only sports organization that likes
- 35:25to shoot itself in the foot more than the Cowboys are the Texas, long
- 35:29words, and they do it with just great precision and going into it.
- 35:36I mean, Baylor's bad this year. I got I watched some of their
- 35:38games. They're bad, and so there shouldn't be It should be kind of
- 35:45like the Wyoming game last Saturday. It's gonna be kind of a close first
- 35:50half, but ultimately, I mean, you should just wear them out and
- 35:54you know, have an easy win. That being said, Texas loves to
- 35:59screw up, so like all Texas games, I am incredibly cautiously optimistic for
- 36:05this one. Like if we were going into Lubbock, then I would be
- 36:07really scared because you can't have, you know, let down in Lubbick just
- 36:13we suck in love it. But I'm hopeful there. Yeah, I hate,
- 36:20I hate, I hate. I hate Baylor just for a personal reason,
- 36:24like I hate that school. I hate Yeah every time, you too,
- 36:29because Baylor's where my parents met. Oh really, and that didn't work
- 36:31out good for anybody. I did a show there and they're very Baptist and
- 36:43I had to type up my entire set. This is back in the day.
- 36:46I'd type up my set and send it in for the Board of Regents
- 36:51to approve of the content, and I get the big stamped approval, the
- 36:58big red stamp this has approved. I'm not even making that up. They
- 37:00it's a big, giant red stamp that said approved for my forty five minute
- 37:07performance at Baylor? Was that before or after all the sexual harassment and rape
- 37:13and sexual assault allegations with the football program to two or three years before?
- 37:21Uh so? Uh? I guess it was. It was happening, but
- 37:23they just had it, hadn't all? This is like I think that I
- 37:28made a joke about it. I think the month before they were allowed to
- 37:31dance, like they could actually have a dance because they wouldn't. They weren't
- 37:35allowed to have dances. Uh. And and I made the joke on stage
- 37:39because I hate them. I go, uh who called? Who called?
- 37:45And said it was okay? Like what what? Like Commissioner Gordon had the
- 37:50bat phone, does does your does your got it? Called directly from God?
- 37:52That says God's like, hey, it's cool if they if they shake
- 37:57a boot. Uh. But thirty years thirty years after Footloose came out,
- 38:07and I get this big red stamp saying you your set is approved. Have
- 38:12fun entertaining those Baptist kids. And I get to the venue and they're supposed
- 38:16to have a dressing room for me, and I'm not a picky guy.
- 38:19They were like, what do you want on your rider? I was like,
- 38:21can I just get a sandwich and chips and a diet coke? That's
- 38:23all I wanted. They gave me a four little thing little box of chocolates
- 38:29and went, here's your food. And they weren't even kidding. They're like,
- 38:31here's your food. And I had a share of dressing room with their
- 38:35drill team or whatever it was. And then they came back and went,
- 38:38hey, we forgot to tell you. One of the members of the Board
- 38:44of Regents wasn't present when they voted to approve it, and she voted against
- 38:49it, So you can't do any of your set. And I literally walked
- 38:54into for a sandwich and some chips. Know I had to still perform forty
- 39:00five minutes. They're like, just just you can't do any of the stuff
- 39:02that you were going to do. So they would rather they would rather you
- 39:07not do your pre submitted material and instead let you loose on stage without any
- 39:12sort of a script. Yes, how much fun did you have that night?
- 39:15Robb Oh, I haven't taken a dump on a school that big and
- 39:20my you would have thought I had Indian food the night before, because I
- 39:22just have. They invited you back since then, not one time? Never?
- 39:30Are you okay with that? So I hope the Longhorns take a bigger
- 39:35dump on them than I did. And that's impressive because every time I drive
- 39:39to Austin, every time I passed Baylor, I literally, I'm not even
- 39:44making this up. I stick my finger out the window and I'm just like,
- 39:46the whole whole way from when McFarland Stadium starts to where Elvis ate breakfast,
- 39:52I just do this the whole time. It's so funny that you do
- 39:55that too. It's just that you and I do it for two completely different
- 39:58reasons. One has some childhood trauma that a lot of it so much.
- 40:09So basically what we're getting at is trauma gets trauma breeds at Baylor. Yes,
- 40:17let's let's continue. So let's continue to ride the arrogance wave with one
- 40:24last little tidbit here on the Treehouse Football podcast, and that is one of
- 40:30the major stories that came out last week and ended this week that takes football
- 40:37and celebrity and entertainment and brings them two together like two scissoring lesbians on a
- 40:43website. And that is the story that came out that quite possibly maybe kind
- 40:50of sword of Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift quietly hanging out according to sources, Yeah,
- 40:57according to his brother, right, so they've actually well yeah, I
- 41:01mean that that that That's what to me adds credibility to this story is that
- 41:07there's not a whole lot of outright denial about it. And when there is
- 41:10no outright denial, that usually means something is going on. And I would
- 41:15and there's the reason why I mentioned the arrogant side of it is it's a
- 41:20story as old as time and that is an NFL player having the swag to
- 41:25say, you know what, you know what, that you know what that
- 41:29amazing most popular, powerful pop singer needs in her life. Me Ye.
- 41:35Enter Travis Kelsey at a Taylor Swift Era's show in July where he shoots his
- 41:42shot and tries to give her his number. As as told on the podcast,
- 41:47that Travis and his brother do. I'll let him tell you how that
- 41:52went down. If you're up on Taylor Swift concerts. There are friendship bracelets
- 41:57and I received a bunch of them being there, But I want to give
- 42:00Taylor Swift one with my number on it, not right, your numbers in
- 42:05eighty seven or your phone number, you know which one, so that she
- 42:12doesn't meet anybody. And she doesn't, or at least she didn't want to
- 42:15meet me, so I took a personal So he's he even said in that
- 42:19show. Yeah, he was a little butt hurt about that, but he
- 42:21understood it because he later said she doesn't talk to anybody before the show because
- 42:25she has to sing forty four songs. She's saving her voice. So that
- 42:30was in July. Fast forward to just last week. Now it seems like
- 42:32they're quietly hanging out. Yeah. And as any time anyone's ever been attached
- 42:42to Taylor Swift, I always wonder, what is it you think you're gonna
- 42:45do different? Yeah, every time she's dating somebody, I'm like, oh,
- 42:52I can't. She's trying to write a new album that I think everyone
- 42:55has that that same thought, and then I thought, and then I started
- 42:59thinking about this. There has been a line of very good looking, handsome,
- 43:07wealthy, talented suitors in Taylor Swift's wake, and Travis Kelsey is now
- 43:13throwing his cleats into her arena, saying I can do what all these other
- 43:21guys couldn't. And I thought, I don't know anybody else that would have
- 43:24that level of arrogance, And then I remembered I know Trey Trenholme, and
- 43:32I think when you leave such a wake of bodies behind you the way Taylor
- 43:38Swift has, I think deep down we all assume she's probably got a little
- 43:43crazy in her, and I think that is where Trey sees the spark.
- 43:47Oh, I see a lot of crazy in her. You can just tell,
- 43:52like some of her some of her songs, they're written by a crazy
- 43:57person and you just you know it, and yeah, I would. I've
- 44:00got the liner notes and it says written by Taylor Swift and you're like,
- 44:01well, yeah, and you realize, yeah, she really is a disturbed,
- 44:06emotionally unbalanced person. And I love you would, but you would really
- 44:14think though Tony Romo would call you know, Kelsey, have we go hey
- 44:19dating a pop star that I love? That you mentioned that tree because I
- 44:23don't know if you'll be able to see this or not, but I put
- 44:25that in my notes right right here. It says, underneath Travis Kelsey and
- 44:30Taylor Swift, I have two great examples from the cowboys recent history of dating
- 44:37starlets. That is Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson. That did not go well.
- 44:42That was terrible for everybody involved. It was bad for Jessica Simpson,
- 44:45it was bad for the Cowboys, it was bad for Tony. It was
- 44:49kind of good for the eye hoop off of thirty five. But then Miles
- 44:54Austin and don't know if you guys remember this, Miles Austin for a brief
- 44:58time was linked with Kim carter Ashian when he was at the height of his
- 45:00popularity. Yes, none of those things ended well for anybody after After Miles
- 45:06Austin dated Kim Kardashian, I don't even know if he caught a touchdown after
- 45:09that. No, because the Kardashians will destroy you, and that's that's that's
- 45:15their function in life is to destroy talented black man like that's what they look
- 45:19at Kanye West, he was a musical genius. He married Kim Kardashian.
- 45:22Now he's got his ass crack showing on a boat in Venice, Like where
- 45:25if you want to talk about what they do in a black look what they
- 45:29did to Bruce Jenner. Yeah, that's that's the ongoing joke. And he's
- 45:34related. It's ongoing family, that's the ongoing joke. And like the comedy
- 45:38community is, uh there, there's so there's so they're so bad at being
- 45:43women. Bruce Jenner's like pulled my beard, Like let me show you,
- 45:49bitch, is how this was done. But I my joke and I've always
- 45:52said this, and I say it with so much passion, like, uh,
- 45:54the Kardashians are like bleach. Uh. If you're black and they get
- 45:59on you, you're ruined. Uh, that's just how that works. Every
- 46:05Reggie Bush, Well, here's here's what something. Here's something you need to
- 46:08keep in mind if you if you were if you were a black man and
- 46:10you're trying to date one of the Kardashians and using your bleach analogy, raj,
- 46:16that is this, do not go in the bathroom when they were bleaching
- 46:21their butt holes, because that may be how it actually happens. Because once
- 46:28they're done with that you might be the butt hole they're trying to bleach' that's
- 46:31what it's gonna be. Like they're just Yeah, I didn't he right after
- 46:37Jessica Simpson didn't remo date Carrie Underwood. Wasn't he going through like like country
- 46:42singers. I think he was just like, let me just turn on,
- 46:45Like that's the arrogance. I can just turn on the country, like the
- 46:47country like like Tony did not learn his lesson with Jessica Simpson, although I
- 46:52will say that Carrie Underwood seems to have her head on her shoulders a little
- 46:57bit straighter than Jessica Simpson did at the time. Yeah, but both of
- 47:01the tail in comparison to the mountain that Taylor Swift is where Travis Kelsey is
- 47:09trying to climb. Yeah, that's and if and if you know, if
- 47:13if he if he secures the victory of dating and then you don't know marrying
- 47:21Taylor Swift, Like she's she's so big, Like I think was it uh
- 47:24some Eastern European country that she's performing in, like it helped their economy,
- 47:29Like that's how big her concert is, Like it's really like helped their GDP
- 47:32out. What would be What would be a greater accomplishment in Travis Kelsey's career
- 47:37winning another Super Bowl, including being named MVP in that Super Bowl, or
- 47:45settling down, not just landing Taylor Swift, but actually settling down and doing
- 47:50the whole family thing with her, Which would be the greater accomplishment I would
- 47:54I would go Taylor Swift. Yeah, yeah, you know why because there's
- 47:59been what fifty three other Super Bowls and MVPs in those games. He would
- 48:04just be like the fifty fourth Whereas whereas no one's, no one's reached the
- 48:08summit of Taylor Swift. She's his everest. Why don't we always come back
- 48:19to white guys on some crazy expedition of of impossibilities. She that's his everest
- 48:27and all. She really needs to some green boots. Uh, that's what
- 48:30That's what she needs. She she should, She should settle down with an
- 48:32Indian dude. I think Britney Spears wouldn't have gone crazy married Indian. It
- 48:37al comes back to they need to marry an Indian dude. I don't know
- 48:42why are you? Are you offering yourself up as tribute uh to Taylor's I
- 48:47don't think I because now I kind of see the crazy. I didn't before.
- 48:52I know she has writing I didn't. She seems this is why I
- 48:55need to hang out with Trey more. I've hung out with Trey enough over
- 48:58the years that he's my crazy. I know I'm next to him and he
- 49:01starts gyrating his hips just a little bit more than usual. I know that
- 49:05that I know to stay away. Okay, gotcha, because I mean I
