Latest / Bible Chat Devotional / April 20 - Faith That Works
Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, April 20th.
- 0:11Faith that works. There is a difference between
- 0:13talking about change and actually walking in it.
- 0:17It is easy to say you want to grow, want to trust God, want to
- 0:21become more disciplined, or want to live differently.
- 0:24But Proverbs chapter 14 verse 23 says in all toil there is
- 0:28profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.
- 0:31In other words, words alone do not build a life.
- 0:35Faith is meant to move. Growth usually comes through
- 0:38obedience, persistence, and action.
- 0:42Psalm 32, verse 5 says I acknowledged my sin to you and I
- 0:46did not cover my iniquity. That is another kind of action,
- 0:49honest confession. Real faith does not hide behind
- 0:53excuses. It comes into the light.
- 0:56It brings sin to God and receives forgiveness.
- 0:59Then Romans chapter 4 points us to Abraham, who received the
- 1:02promise through faith. His faith was not empty belief,
- 1:07It was trust that shaped the way he lived.
- 1:09That matters so much because sometimes people think faith
- 1:12means sitting back passively and hoping things somehow change.
- 1:16But biblical faith responds, It prays and it obeys.
- 1:21It trusts and it moves. It believes God's promises
- 1:24enough to live differently because of them.
- 1:27Maybe there is an area of your life where you have been stuck
- 1:29in talk. You say you want peace, but you
- 1:32keep feeding anxiety. You say you want closeness with
- 1:35God, but you rarely make space for him.
- 1:38You say you want to grow, but you avoid the effort growth
- 1:41requires. This is not about earning God's
- 1:44love. It is about letting faith become
- 1:47visible in the choices you make. Small acts of obedience matter.
- 1:51Opening your Bible when you do not feel like it matters.
- 1:55Confessing sin instead of covering it matters.
- 1:57Doing the next faithful thing matters.
- 2:00God sees every step He works through the ordinary efforts
- 2:03that are surrendered to Him. Faith that works is not flashy.
- 2:07It is steady. It is honest, it is willing.
- 2:10And God delights. To strengthen that kind of
- 2:12faith, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 2:16calling me to a faith that is real and active.
- 2:19Help me move beyond empty words into obedience, honesty and
- 2:22trust. Give me courage to confess my
- 2:25sin, strength to do the work of growth and confidence that you
- 2:29are with me in every faithful step.
- 2:32Let my life reflect a faith that is alive, steady and rooted in
- 2:35You. In Jesus name, Amen.
- 2:42What if you could rise up and declare with full spiritual
- 2:45authority, I shall not die, but live?

- 3:40Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 3:43Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 14, verse 23
- 3:48World English Bible In all hard work there is profit, but the
- 3:52talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
- 3:55Psalm chapter 32 World English Bible by David a contemplative
- 4:00Psalm. Blessed is he whose disobedience
- 4:03is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
- 4:06Blessed is the man to whom Yahweh doesn't impute iniquity,
- 4:09in whose spirit there is no deceit.
- 4:11When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning
- 4:15all day long for day and night. Your hand was heavy on me.
- 4:19My strength was sapped in the heat of summer.
- 4:21Selah. I acknowledged my sin to you.
- 4:24I didn't hide my iniquity. I said I will confess my
- 4:28transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my
- 4:31sin. Selah.
- 4:33For this let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when
- 4:36you may be found. Surely when the great waters
- 4:39overflow, they shall not reach to Him.
- 4:41You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from
- 4:44trouble. You will surround me with songs
- 4:46of deliverance. Selah.
- 4:49I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall
- 4:51go. I will counsel you with my eye
- 4:53on you. Don't be like the horse or like
- 4:57the mule, which have no understanding, who are
- 4:59controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to
- 5:03you. Many sorrows come to the wicked,
- 5:06but loving kindness shall surround him who trusts in
- 5:08Yahweh. Be glad in Yahweh, and rejoice
- 5:11you righteous. Shout for joy all you who are
- 5:13upright in heart. Romans chapter 4 World English
- 5:18Bible What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has
- 5:22found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by
- 5:26works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.
- 5:30For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was
- 5:34accounted to him for righteousness.
- 5:37Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as
- 5:40something owed. But to him who doesn't work, but
- 5:44believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is
- 5:47accounted for righteousness, even as David also pronounces
- 5:52blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from
- 5:55works. Blessed are they whose
- 5:57iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
- 6:01Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with
- 6:04sin. Is this blessing then pronounced
- 6:07only on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also?
- 6:11For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for
- 6:14righteousness. How then was it counted when he
- 6:17was in circumcision or in uncircumcision?
- 6:20Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
- 6:23He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the
- 6:26righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in
- 6:29uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who
- 6:33believe, though they might be an uncircumcision, that
- 6:37righteousness might also be accounted to them.
- 6:40He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the
- 6:44circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of
- 6:47our father Abraham, which he had an uncircumcision for.
- 6:52The promise to Abraham and to his offspring that he would be
- 6:55heir of the world, wasn't through the law, but through the
- 6:57righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law
- 7:01are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no
- 7:04effect. For the law produces wrath.
- 7:07For where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.
- 7:11For this 'cause it is a faith that it may be according to
- 7:14grace to the end, that the promise may be sure to all the
- 7:17offspring, not to that only which is of the law, but to that
- 7:22also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us
- 7:25all. As it is written, I have made
- 7:28you a father of many nations. This is in the presence of him
- 7:31whom he believed, God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the
- 7:35things that are not as though they were against Hope.
- 7:39Abraham and Hope believed to the end that he might become a
- 7:42father of many nations according to that which had been spoken.
- 7:46So will your offspring be without being weakened in faith.
- 7:50He didn't consider his own body already having been worn out, he
- 7:54being about 100 years old and the deadness of Sarah's womb.
- 7:59Yet looking to the promise of God, he didn't waver through
- 8:02unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to
- 8:05God and being fully assured that what He had promised, he was
- 8:10also able to perform. Therefore, it also was credited
- 8:14to him for righteousness. Now, it was not written that it
- 8:17was accounted to Him for His sake alone, but for our sake
- 8:20also to whom it will be accounted who believe in Him,
- 8:24who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up
- 8:28for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.
