- 2:28Speaker 6: who entertained us at the twenty twenty five Charles Stern
- 2:30Speaker 6: will regatta. Some pretty big names coming to town, and
- 2:33Speaker 6: I got the mayor here, the biggest name of all.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Well to hear about that before we talk Regatta in
- 2:39Speaker 6: the entertainment announcement was made. Yeah, Stray, let's talk about
- 2:42Speaker 6: severe weather anything to anything to talk about in Charleston
- 2:46Speaker 6: proper today.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Sure, some sporadic power outages across the area, no real
- 2:53Speaker 3: big issues. As of five minutes ago, we did not
- 2:57Speaker 3: have any reports or tree down. We're monitoring, obviously, always
- 3:04Speaker 3: we're monitoring, but no no creek issues, no trees down.
- 3:09Speaker 3: There's probably twenty one hundred folks without power through Knall County.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So if you're without power, it's a big deal for sure.
- 3:18Speaker 3: But but the big thing is, you know, as my
- 3:21Speaker 3: husband leaned over this morning and said, suld should we
- 3:24Speaker 3: go in the basement when you start to hear those sirens?
- 3:28Speaker 3: And we do them and we practice them for good reason.
- 3:31Speaker 4: We just had to practice what last week.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Well, we always we always do the sirens on Wednesday,
- 3:36Speaker 3: the county and the EOC I call them. I've caught
- 3:39Speaker 3: them on your show day for years, our quarterback. So
- 3:43Speaker 3: when we put off that siren on Wednesday in the
- 3:46Speaker 3: county at noon, and the reason why we do it
- 3:49Speaker 3: and we always do a test, is to make sure
- 3:51Speaker 3: the system's right. But I was reminding folks this morning
- 3:54Speaker 3: as well, it is also a time to think about
- 3:58Speaker 3: not where you are Wednesday at noon, because everybody says,
- 4:01Speaker 3: oh it's Wednesday at noon, there goes the siren. The
- 4:03Speaker 3: reason why we do that for the public too is
- 4:05Speaker 3: to remind them think about your plan, not just where
- 4:07Speaker 3: you are at that minute, but if you have children,
- 4:10Speaker 3: your school, your home, your parents, Where are your parents
- 4:13Speaker 3: on Saturday at two or Thursday at nine pm? And
- 4:17Speaker 3: to make a plan. It is always important we got
- 4:20Speaker 3: through this one without any issues. But you know, yesterday
- 4:23Speaker 3: was a year anniversary to the last big storm. And oh,
- 4:27Speaker 3: by the way, my first year in office in July,
- 4:30Speaker 3: we have two tornadoes touched down.
- 4:33Speaker 4: That was in the evening hours, was that it was
- 4:35Speaker 4: later on.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But it still is a time to plan. And there
- 4:40Speaker 3: is a good reason why. And I think you said
- 4:41Speaker 3: you're going to have Brian Hughes on and he talks
- 4:44Speaker 3: about it better than anybody I know, is that when
- 4:47Speaker 3: we have these things, it is always a good time
- 4:49Speaker 3: to make a plan and think about your house, your work,
- 4:54Speaker 3: and any other location that you frequent to say, what
- 4:57Speaker 3: are my plans and how do I get people into
- 5:00Speaker 3: a safe space? Listen, we live in Appalachia, and we
- 5:03Speaker 3: live in the mountain state. We have more trees than
- 5:05Speaker 3: we do people, Dave, where are you in your house?
- 5:08Speaker 3: And where are your parents and your families? And it's
- 5:09Speaker 3: always a good time to make a plan.
- 5:11Speaker 6: And we're not out of the woods yet, because we
- 5:13Speaker 6: just had some heavy rain roll through the downtown charles
- 5:16Speaker 6: Stonnaria about thirty minutes or so ago. In more severe
- 5:18Speaker 6: weather is on the way.
- 5:19Speaker 4: It's I heard it.
- 5:20Speaker 6: I actually heard Brian this morning talking about it's like
- 5:23Speaker 6: a twelve hour deal. You know, it really hit in
- 5:24Speaker 6: the Kanaal Valley sometime during the over nine hours has
- 5:27Speaker 6: been on where you live, and then as you head
- 5:30Speaker 6: home twelve hours later, you're gonna be hit with it
- 5:32Speaker 6: again four or five o'clock or so this afternoon. In
- 5:35Speaker 6: the meantime, most of the well, the all fifty five
- 5:38Speaker 6: counties are under a state of preparedness that came from
- 5:41Speaker 6: Governor Morrissey. So it's and it's springtime, and we tend
- 5:46Speaker 6: to have these.
- 5:47Speaker 4: We're lucky.
- 5:47Speaker 6: We don't have the type of tornadic activities like you
- 5:51Speaker 6: see in the South and like you see in places
- 5:53Speaker 6: in the Midwest. But we do get our fair share,
- 5:56Speaker 6: you know, from time to town.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So at the EOC it was activated in the wee
- 6:00Speaker 3: hours early this morning. It will remain there until C. W.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Sigmund turns off that but he's not going to I
- 6:08Speaker 3: don't anticipate any time soon. So we're going to keep
- 6:11Speaker 3: our eyes to the sky for sure.
- 6:12Speaker 6: All right, let me remind you that the Dave Island

- 6:33Speaker 6: the announcement was made about the entertainment at the regatta.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Those announcements made at an Incovia Insurance offices downtown Charleston.
- 6:43Speaker 6: They've been a little I'm a little biased there, but
- 6:46Speaker 6: they have been a big part of the returning regatta
- 6:49Speaker 6: since day one.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Absolutely. They were our first folks on board, and you know,
- 6:52Speaker 3: really and COVID took a chance on us. They said, okay,
- 6:56Speaker 3: when we went to them and said we're bringing the
- 6:58Speaker 3: regatta back, will you be our title sponsor? Well, that's
- 7:01Speaker 3: pretty hard to do when you have no history and
- 7:03Speaker 3: it's been gone for a long period of time. But
- 7:05Speaker 3: they were with us in the beginning, and so we
- 7:08Speaker 3: were at their headquarters yesterday to make the announcement of
- 7:12Speaker 3: our headliner list. As I mentioned yesterday and this morning
- 7:16Speaker 3: to folks, we still have more musical entertainment that we're
- 7:19Speaker 3: going to be announcing in the weeks and months to come,
- 7:22Speaker 3: but really excited to have a country singer up and
- 7:27Speaker 3: she is. My nieces are over the moon about Carly
- 7:30Speaker 3: Pearce is going to kick it off day one on Thursday,
- 7:33Speaker 3: July third. She's a Grammy Award winning singer. Neat Kentucky Native.
- 7:38Speaker 3: We're already getting calls from hotel from people in Kentucky
- 7:41Speaker 3: that are calling into the hotels. When's she playing? When
- 7:44Speaker 3: she play in? I want to come because remember there Regatta,
- 7:47Speaker 3: twenty two percent of everyone that comes to Regta, they're
- 7:50Speaker 3: from out of state. Dave, they're out of state.
- 7:52Speaker 4: It's an amazing number.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so great. I mean, we have quickly found
- 7:56Speaker 3: ourselves to be the largest event in the state of
- 7:58Speaker 3: West Virginia. Now on Friday, I mentioned yesterday that my
- 8:02Speaker 3: sister and I when we were little, we're ten and
- 8:04Speaker 3: a half months apart. She had a powder blue satin jacket.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I had a pink, pale, pink satin jacket with our name.
- 8:12Speaker 3: That's when my embroidery was like nobody could get their
- 8:15Speaker 3: name on things. My mom had a neighbor who stitched
- 8:17Speaker 3: our names in the side. We used to sing and
- 8:20Speaker 3: dance to Casey in the Sunshine Band. Y.
- 8:22Speaker 6: I thought about that when that was announced yesterday, and
- 8:24Speaker 6: I think you and I are about a year or
- 8:26Speaker 6: two apart in age. I'm a little bit older and
- 8:28Speaker 6: it takes me back to my grade school days. I
- 8:31Speaker 6: should be at the at the Davin Skating Rink in
- 8:35Speaker 6: Logan County with Casein. But I mentioned this on the
- 8:37Speaker 6: show yesterday on the Midday Show, and I think I've
- 8:40Speaker 6: talked about on this show as well. Two years ago
- 8:43Speaker 6: I saw Casey in the Sunshine Band in concert at
- 8:45Speaker 6: the People's Bank Theater in Marietta, Ohio. Yeah, I wasn't
- 8:48Speaker 6: that up on going, to be honest with you, I'm
- 8:50Speaker 6: not a disco kind of guy. One of the probably
- 8:54Speaker 6: three or four best concerts I ever saw, and my
- 8:57Speaker 6: wife man drugged me there and it was a two
- 8:59Speaker 6: and a half half hour concert. He's in his early seventies,
- 9:04Speaker 6: kills it and and his band is just incredible, and
- 9:09Speaker 6: it was probably, as I said, I've seen a lot
- 9:11Speaker 6: of concerts in my time on this earth, one of
- 9:14Speaker 6: the two or three best most entertaining concerts I ever saw.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Those folks can rock.
- 9:19Speaker 3: So I always have a good focus group within my
- 9:22Speaker 3: family because my boys, Davis you on Uber twenty one
- 9:24Speaker 3: and twenty three, and my mom is eighty two, and
- 9:26Speaker 3: so I played songs for both of them. They're like, oh, yes,
- 9:29Speaker 3: I know them. Oh my gosh, I love that song.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I love this song. If you've been to any wedding,
- 9:33Speaker 3: you know all of the Casey and the Sunshine band songs.
- 9:37Speaker 4: The Fit's party. I mean, they're a party band. And
- 9:40Speaker 4: he even said that when I saw him a concert.
- 9:41Speaker 6: He started the show by saying, if you came here
- 9:43Speaker 6: to sit on your hands, you came to the wrong
- 9:45Speaker 6: you came to the wrong venue.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Saturday night. Buster Rhymes, I mean.
- 9:48Speaker 3: It's probably and again this is what people say, why
- 9:52Speaker 3: don't you have this way that Listen When they started
- 9:56Speaker 3: talking about making offers to folks and Buster Rhymes, I
- 9:58Speaker 3: literally said to Matthew Center, t now Buster Rhymes, Do
- 10:02Speaker 3: I know mister Rhymes And He's like, yes, Mayor you
- 10:05Speaker 3: know who he is and started playing. So I was like, oh, okay, okay,
- 10:08Speaker 3: it's the number. My phone has been blown up over
- 10:12Speaker 3: Buster Rhymes, blown up over Buster Rymes, far and away.
- 10:16Speaker 3: That is an artist that I didn't anticipate everybody saying,
- 10:21Speaker 3: oh thank goodness, like I've been wanting to see him, think, gosh,
- 10:23Speaker 3: you got him. This is incredible. So that's on Saturday night,
- 10:27Speaker 3: and then we're going to wrap up on Sunday, July
- 10:29Speaker 3: sixth with Jefferson Starship.
- 10:31Speaker 6: And this is a band and we were the three
- 10:34Speaker 6: of us along with Chris Lawrence. We're having this discussion
- 10:37Speaker 6: off the air. I mean, you know, they started as
- 10:39Speaker 6: Jefferson Airplane, White Rabbits, Somebody'd Love in the late sixties.
- 10:42Speaker 6: They morphed into more of a rock band in the
- 10:45Speaker 6: mid seventies, and you talk about the hits that these
- 10:49Speaker 6: that this band has had over the year, and then
- 10:51Speaker 6: in the eighties they became something totally different when Mickey
- 10:53Speaker 6: Thomas took over the lead vocals. Uh, and they did
- 10:57Speaker 6: nothing's going to stop us now. And of course we
- 10:58Speaker 6: built the city, which Rob, rob Reel and I were
- 11:01Speaker 6: talking about. This was voted by Rolling Stone as the
- 11:04Speaker 6: worst song. Ever, however, everybody knows it and that will
- 11:09Speaker 6: be the hit of the concert, I promise.
- 11:11Speaker 4: When we built this city and uh, and they do all.
- 11:15Speaker 6: That stuff in concert because it has been various, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 6: various incarnations of the band over the years, and this
- 11:19Speaker 6: one's Coming Gone and the song it's the.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Whole catalog, that's right, Yeah, it's the whole catalog. And
- 11:25Speaker 3: so they're going to be singing all of those songs.
- 11:27Speaker 3: So somebody said, oh, you know Jefferson Airplane, that's different
- 11:30Speaker 3: than Jefferson's, aren't. No, it's all the same. They're all
- 11:32Speaker 3: sing the same song.
- 11:33Speaker 6: They're Yeah, that's right, and I'm going to be really
- 11:36Speaker 6: upset if they don't do their song from the late seventies,
- 11:40Speaker 6: Jane and dedicated to Jane Bostic.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Oh.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Yes, they've got.
- 11:42Speaker 3: To do that for sure. The reason why you didn't
- 11:45Speaker 3: see her yesterday during our announcement is she heard her
- 11:47Speaker 3: pall so she couldn't. She couldn't. She can't move around
- 11:51Speaker 3: really great right now, but we're all going to be
- 11:53Speaker 3: singing that song to Dane during the record, And I.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Think it's a really good point is we'll start to
- 11:58Speaker 6: wrap up. I I like what you said at the
- 12:01Speaker 6: beginning of the segment because yesterday and people heard my
- 12:03Speaker 6: rant on the air done on social media. People, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 6: the amount of people that complained about free entertainment just
- 12:10Speaker 6: astounds me. However, I will say this, people said they
- 12:14Speaker 6: were throwing out certain artists names and saying, well, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 6: we've got great local talent here, what about this person?
- 12:20Speaker 6: Those people haven't been announced yet, right, I mean there's
- 12:23Speaker 6: still more coming, right, And there's.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Still more coming. But I'll go ahead and say this,
- 12:26Speaker 3: and I'll give props very quickly as we end. I'll
- 12:29Speaker 3: give props to this, and people say, oh, I don't
- 12:31Speaker 3: like it, I don't want I know, I know this
- 12:33Speaker 3: to be true. By the way, I'm not on the
- 12:35Speaker 3: pick and committee. I was for some of the local
- 12:37Speaker 3: folks that are going to be in playing out. So
- 12:39Speaker 3: I was part of that committee of who's playing locally
- 12:41Speaker 3: but nationally. That's not my I have a great skill set.
- 12:44Speaker 3: That's not part of my skill set. I leave it
- 12:45Speaker 3: to people who know. But I know that this is.
- 12:47Speaker 4: This is the mayor that said, do I know mister Ryan.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so I know what my skill set is.
- 12:51Speaker 3: But I will say that but I know local. But
- 12:53Speaker 3: this is this is what I know to be factually true.
- 12:56Speaker 3: It's the largest event in the state of West Virginia.
- 12:58Speaker 3: We grow every single year. Two hundred and thirty five
- 13:00Speaker 3: thousand people there last year. We may not get everything perfect,
- 13:04Speaker 3: but we've got a little bit of magic in picking
- 13:07Speaker 3: groups that your mom will love, your sister will love,
- 13:10Speaker 3: your kids will love, your brother will love, and so
- 13:13Speaker 3: it is an eclectic mix and there is a method,
- 13:16Speaker 3: believe it or not, to the madness. So I know
- 13:19Speaker 3: to trust our folks because every single year, hundreds of
- 13:22Speaker 3: thousands of people show up to the largest event in
- 13:24Speaker 3: the state. And by the way, this is what I
- 13:26Speaker 3: know also about the Regatta. It's not just about the
- 13:29Speaker 3: music now, it's about being together. It's about grabbing a
- 13:31Speaker 3: great sandwich, having a beer, spending time with your family,
- 13:34Speaker 3: going to the carnival. My kids absolutely love, love love
- 13:39Speaker 3: going to you know how big they are, going to
- 13:41Speaker 3: every single vendor and trying different foods. It is a
- 13:45Speaker 3: large part about the music, Dave, But most of all,
- 13:47Speaker 3: Regatta is about coming together, bringing our families and our
- 13:51Speaker 3: communities together to share in something super special.
- 13:54Speaker 6: And as we get closer to the Regatta, we'll have
- 13:56Speaker 6: you and the other Regatta folks on the air a
- 13:58Speaker 6: lot to talk about it as if you want to,
- 14:00Speaker 6: because this is just the first announcement of the entertainment.
- 14:03Speaker 6: We got a lot of that and there's a whole
- 14:05Speaker 6: lot more coming along with the Mayor.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I appreciate you.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Appreciate you and the mayor. By the way, we'll be
- 14:09Speaker 6: back on Monday for her normal monthly segment.
- 14:13Speaker 3: With in the studio. I may not leave, so well
- 14:17Speaker 3: you have to leave. Sorry, Okay, so you.
- 14:19Speaker 6: Got a job, all right, Mayor Amy, goodwill and good
- 14:22Speaker 6: luck to all of our emergency crews out there, you know,
- 14:25Speaker 6: because we're not out of the woods with the storm system. Man,

- 17:03Speaker 6: to join us a little bit later on to talk
- 17:04Speaker 6: about that. A little bit of a lull over the
- 17:06Speaker 6: next several hours, and then it's going to rap back
- 17:09Speaker 6: up again. We understand as by the time you head
- 17:11Speaker 6: home from work. So we'll get into that with Brian

- 17:23Speaker 4: Please welcome to the show. State Senator Judici Arge here,
- 17:26Speaker 4: Mike Stewart. How you doing, man, I'm doing great, boy.
- 17:29Speaker 8: These are nice studios here.
- 17:30Speaker 11: You like this?
- 17:31Speaker 8: Are the ad rates going on?
- 17:32Speaker 4: Yes?
- 17:33Speaker 6: Yes, well I forgot you're being charged to be here today.
- 17:36Speaker 6: I forgot about that. Now I'm kidding about that.
- 17:38Speaker 4: I forgot my checkbook. Yeah, of course, so appreciate it.
- 17:41Speaker 4: So yeah, well, welcome, welcome to the place here. Man, No,
- 17:44Speaker 4: it's very nice, it's very nice.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Yeah, we're we're excited. We'll even be more excited when
- 17:49Speaker 6: we learn how to operate everything. That'll even that'll be better.
- 17:53Speaker 6: I want to start Mike, but talking about child welfare
- 17:57Speaker 6: for a moment, For the third time you brought up
- 18:01Speaker 6: a bill I guess to study the child welfare system,
- 18:04Speaker 6: and this time it moves forward. Talk about this thing
- 18:06Speaker 6: from the beginning. Yeah, so beating my head against a wall.
- 18:10Speaker 6: I brought it up one time. I think it was
- 18:12Speaker 6: March tenth, and that was the meeting we had.
- 18:17Speaker 8: Unreliable, a substance abuse problem that continues to ravage countrysides
- 18:22Speaker 8: and families. We ought to be focused in fixing these things.
- 18:25Speaker 8: We can do this, We can do this.
- 18:28Speaker 6: But again with state senator and judiciary chair out of
- 18:31Speaker 6: the Senate, Mike Stewart SB ninety four, and I'm sorry,
- 18:34Speaker 6: nine to forty four is what we're talking about here.
- 18:35Speaker 6: And as you said, Mike, it does go to the House,
- 18:38Speaker 6: and I know you're pretty hopeful that it will pass there.
- 18:40Speaker 8: Yeah, there's great detail in that bill too. This is
- 18:43Speaker 8: not one of those feel good bills. It spells out
- 18:46Speaker 8: in stark detail exactly what we're going to study and
- 18:49Speaker 8: exactly what we're going to fix. And the goal here
- 18:52Speaker 8: is not to just fix CPS, or just fix the
- 18:54Speaker 8: foster care system, or just fix the court system related
- 18:58Speaker 8: to abuse in the Gale family. It needs to fix
- 19:02Speaker 8: all three and we can do this.
- 19:03Speaker 4: This is not a heavy lift.
- 19:05Speaker 8: We just need to make sure we're committed to doing
- 19:07Speaker 8: it and that the political will is there to do
- 19:10Speaker 8: it with the people of West Virginia. I believe this
- 19:13Speaker 8: bill is an important next step, but we have to
- 19:17Speaker 8: have follow through. You can pass every bill you want,
- 19:19Speaker 8: but if you don't have follow through, you don't get
- 19:21Speaker 8: where you need to be.

- 19:39Speaker 6: the Student's Sports Bill. I talked about it a little
- 19:41Speaker 6: bit on the Midday Show. This is something that you've
- 19:43Speaker 6: been championing. I mean think you started on this thing
- 19:46Speaker 6: on this show six eight months ago or something like that,
- 19:49Speaker 6: following the death of Cohen Craddock down in Boone County.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Talk about that.
- 19:53Speaker 8: Well, I know I have my critics, but I follow
- 19:55Speaker 8: up on the things I say. I'm going to do,
- 19:57Speaker 8: and that tragedy that happened on that football field in
- 20:00Speaker 8: Boone County out of that from the hard work, and
- 20:03Speaker 8: I admire the entire Cradock family, Ryan and Jennifer, the
- 20:09Speaker 8: mom and dad of Cohen, and we put together the
- 20:13Speaker 8: Cohen Craddock Student Athlete Safety Bill. It doesn't only speak
- 20:16Speaker 8: to Cohen, but it creates a legacy for Coen and
- 20:18Speaker 8: his family that could be nationwide. And what it creates
- 20:23Speaker 8: is the greatest group of folks, experts, the head of
- 20:26Speaker 8: the Neuroscience Center at WVU, the head of the medical
- 20:29Speaker 8: school at WU, and Marshall athletic trainers that will come
- 20:33Speaker 8: together regularly to identify ways we can be safer and
- 20:38Speaker 8: smarter with respect to all our student athletes, not just football,
- 20:42Speaker 8: but all those other sports in which there's high risk
- 20:44Speaker 8: for our kids competing each day. It does mandate for
- 20:49Speaker 8: contact practices for middle school and high school, just for
- 20:53Speaker 8: practices the use of soft shell helmet covers. But most important,
- 20:57Speaker 8: I think that the great legacy here it creates a
- 20:59Speaker 8: grant program, not a taxpayer funded program, but a grant
- 21:03Speaker 8: program that will be administered by the state where we
- 21:06Speaker 8: can raise private dollars and contributions. We already have folks saying, hey,
- 21:10Speaker 8: where do I write my check? Where do I make
- 21:12Speaker 8: my contribution, So that schools who already suffer with the
- 21:16Speaker 8: difficulty of being able to buy just regular equipment are
- 21:19Speaker 8: going to be able to go to the state and say, hey,
- 21:21Speaker 8: we want to buy this particular piece of equipment to
- 21:25Speaker 8: help our student athletes. And I think it relieves all
- 21:29Speaker 8: these counties that struggle to be able to just meet
- 21:32Speaker 8: regular bills, to be able to give them a fund
- 21:34Speaker 8: they can go to to help with this whole thing.
- 21:37Speaker 8: This could transform the way safety is approached in West Virginia.
- 21:41Speaker 8: And when it passes, if it passes the House, and
- 21:43Speaker 8: I again urge them to take this up, this will
- 21:46Speaker 8: make West Virginia the pre eminent state in the country
- 21:49Speaker 8: that is so focused on student athletes safety for our
- 21:52Speaker 8: young kids. And it will make us the first state
- 21:55Speaker 8: in the country to mandate the use of soft shell
- 21:57Speaker 8: helmet covers for practice from middle schoolers and high schoolers.
- 22:02Speaker 8: It's a common sense bill, but that's the type of
- 22:05Speaker 8: bills I think I've been introducing are bills that just
- 22:08Speaker 8: make sense for families. If you look, all my bills
- 22:10Speaker 8: have a constant theme, which is families and kids in
- 22:14Speaker 8: the well being of the people of West Virginia. Another
- 22:17Speaker 8: bill that we probably don't have time to talk about,
- 22:19Speaker 8: the Joel Archer Substance Abuse Intervention Act, another bill that
- 22:22Speaker 8: passed unanimously. And Joel is a young man who at
- 22:26Speaker 8: twenty four and Stacy Archer, his mom, what a champion
- 22:31Speaker 8: of our community in the area of substance abuse and rehab.
- 22:35Speaker 8: But Joel, unfortunately, about twelve years ago, died from substance abuse,
- 22:41Speaker 8: and she took her grief and started working incredibly hard
- 22:46Speaker 8: in the rehab and treatment community.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And I was touched by that.
- 22:50Speaker 8: When I was the United States Attorney, I carry that
- 22:52Speaker 8: wallet filled each day with the photographs of the beautiful
- 22:55Speaker 8: faces the victims of the opia crisis. Those pictures hunt
- 22:59Speaker 8: me in the dark of night, and I will never
- 23:03Speaker 8: stop trying to fight to try to make their situations better.
- 23:06Speaker 8: And what this bill does is for those kids above
- 23:09Speaker 8: the age of eighteen, and yes, they're kids who go
- 23:12Speaker 8: down the path and make a mistake. And there's no
- 23:14Speaker 8: demographic that's not affected. It's black and white, and rich
- 23:17Speaker 8: and poor, and every family is touched by this crisis.
- 23:23Speaker 8: It allows a mom and dad or a loved one
- 23:26Speaker 8: to try to use the mental hygiene process to get
- 23:29Speaker 8: forced involuntary outpatient treatment. We tried the least invasive way first,
- 23:35Speaker 8: but if they refuse, it allows us to take one
- 23:38Speaker 8: last step to try to save these young people or
- 23:41Speaker 8: save the loved one. There's no age limit on it.
- 23:45Speaker 8: Who's gone down a path of no return if there
- 23:48Speaker 8: isn't substance abuse treatment and rehab. And I believe in
- 23:52Speaker 8: redemption and second chances, but I also believe that if
- 23:56Speaker 8: I've been blessed my kids didn't go down that path,
- 24:00Speaker 8: I've just been so blessed in that regard. But if
- 24:02Speaker 8: my kids had gone down that path, I would want
- 24:05Speaker 8: to be able to do whatever it took to try
- 24:07Speaker 8: to save my kids.
- 24:09Speaker 4: And that's what this bill does.
- 24:10Speaker 8: It gives parents and loved ones another chance, even though
- 24:14Speaker 8: they're an adult, to try to get them the help
- 24:16Speaker 8: they need so they can go upon their path of
- 24:19Speaker 8: recovery and redemption and being good citizens and hopefully good
- 24:23Speaker 8: parents and good taxpayers at some point in their future.
- 24:26Speaker 8: But this idea of broken families and the tragic consequence
- 24:30Speaker 8: Every Christmas, every Easter, every vacation, there's not a day.
- 24:34Speaker 8: These families don't think about what they've lost. It's both
- 24:37Speaker 8: from the standpoint of the victim, that person who went
- 24:40Speaker 8: down that path. And I understand some people say, well,
- 24:42Speaker 8: they chose that path, but that's not the reality of
- 24:45Speaker 8: this is these are a lot of folks who go
- 24:48Speaker 8: down this path by no choice of their own. Sometimes
- 24:51Speaker 8: somebody convinces them to try it, just try it once,
- 24:55Speaker 8: and it's unfortunate. We've got to turn the corner on this.
- 24:57Speaker 8: But we won't turn the corner on this if we
- 25:00Speaker 8: approach it as if it's somebody else's family. It's all
- 25:03Speaker 8: of our families. We need to embrace this. So whether
- 25:06Speaker 8: it's the Joel Archer Substance Abuse Intervention Act, the Cohen
- 25:09Speaker 8: Cradoc Student Athlete Safety Act, or the West Virginia Child
- 25:13Speaker 8: First Act, these are all three big bills that passed
- 25:18Speaker 8: the State Senate unanimously. I urge I do, I strongly
- 25:22Speaker 8: urge your listeners to call the House of Delegates, urge
- 25:25Speaker 8: them to take these big bills up so that we
- 25:28Speaker 8: can directly impact the lives of West Virginians all across
- 25:32Speaker 8: this great state.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Mike Stewart is here before we let you go.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I want to talk about you a little bit, your
- 25:37Speaker 6: potential new boss potential RFK Junior was in Martinsburg last
- 25:43Speaker 6: week poking a little fun at our governor's weight. Noth
- 25:47Speaker 6: has been said about that. You what are you hearing
- 25:49Speaker 6: about that part of your life, sir?
- 25:51Speaker 8: No, Well, listen, I think the media will take snippets
- 25:54Speaker 8: and say this is unfair. But I can tell you
- 25:56Speaker 8: that I spoken with the governor and there was no
- 25:59Speaker 8: ill intent there. There was a conversation, it was it
- 26:03Speaker 8: was all part of a larger discussion, and there's great
- 26:08Speaker 8: relationship there, great admiration.
- 26:10Speaker 6: I said that too, Mike. I said, we don't know
- 26:12Speaker 6: what went on behind the scenes. And we had the
- 26:14Speaker 6: governor on the on the Metrore News midday show with
- 26:16Speaker 6: Amanda in earlier this week and he said, there was
- 26:19Speaker 6: no no This is.
- 26:20Speaker 8: A great relationship for West Virginia. I can tell you
- 26:23Speaker 8: that the Secretary is great admiration for our governor and
- 26:26Speaker 8: the people of West Virginia. I can tell you in
- 26:27Speaker 8: all my discussions with Secretary Kennedy, he has great reverence
- 26:31Speaker 8: for the people of West Virginia. Keep in mind, we
- 26:33Speaker 8: played a significant role, a very significant role. Oh yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 8: and the election of JFK Cada President, and you'll see
- 26:41Speaker 8: him here quite a bit. He meant nothing, it was
- 26:43Speaker 8: it was sort of just fun humor between these.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Guys the media of course.
- 26:48Speaker 8: Easy now, Well, I'm just saying we live in a
- 26:51Speaker 8: period where people like to take small snippets, but they
- 26:55Speaker 8: need to look at that relationship. It's very healthy and
- 26:58Speaker 8: very good and it's going to reap great dividends for
- 27:01Speaker 8: the state of West Virginia as we move forward to
- 27:03Speaker 8: make America healthy again, make America great again. But that
- 27:06Speaker 8: relationship between the governor and Secretary Kennedy could not be stronger,
- 27:11Speaker 8: despite what people want to try to spend it as.
- 27:13Speaker 8: But that was a good day, a great day for
- 27:16Speaker 8: West Virginia, and there was no ill intent, and I
- 27:20Speaker 8: think both parties took it quite well and they had fun.
- 27:24Speaker 8: It was a great day.
- 27:25Speaker 4: What's your status right now? Can you comment on anything?
- 27:27Speaker 8: I don't really want to comment except to say I'm
- 27:29Speaker 8: excited by the next chapter. I look forward to confirmation
- 27:33Speaker 8: hearings happening, and I'm looking forward to finishing up my session,
- 27:37Speaker 8: try to get these big bills for West Virginia past,
- 27:40Speaker 8: and then I'll be in a capacity working hopefully as
- 27:43Speaker 8: General Counsel of the Department of Healthy Human Services, where
- 27:45Speaker 8: I get to try to play a role in the
- 27:48Speaker 8: impact and health of families all across our country in
- 27:51Speaker 8: West Virginia. But I won't I may be temporarily departing
- 27:57Speaker 8: and working out of Washington. My heart, everybody knows my
- 28:02Speaker 8: heart will always be here and I will be back
- 28:05Speaker 8: often and regularly. But I am determined to hunker down
- 28:10Speaker 8: and make sure that I do all I can to
- 28:12Speaker 8: help our families. And that's been the sort of the
- 28:15Speaker 8: dedicated portion of my life is to try to make
- 28:18Speaker 8: sure at the end of my days, families are better
- 28:20Speaker 8: off than they were when I started.
- 28:22Speaker 4: I do the best I can.
- 28:23Speaker 8: I don't always win. Sometimes it's like hitting your head
- 28:26Speaker 8: against that brick wall. I do the best I can,
- 28:29Speaker 8: But I can tell you what I'm gonna roll up
- 28:32Speaker 8: my sleeves every day. I'm gonna work hard, and my
- 28:35Speaker 8: intention is to do good and at the end of
- 28:38Speaker 8: our days. I tell my kids this all the time,
- 28:40Speaker 8: that life's a series of decisions. It's they're all piled
- 28:43Speaker 8: on top of each other, and some are good and
- 28:46Speaker 8: some are bad. And at the end of our days.
- 28:48Speaker 8: All we hope is that our good decisions outweigh our
- 28:51Speaker 8: bad decisions, and that the good we do outweighs the
- 28:56Speaker 8: bad decisions that we make. We're all human, and I
- 28:59Speaker 8: think our goal at the end of this is to
- 29:01Speaker 8: try to build a better or West Virginia, build a
- 29:04Speaker 8: stronger family unit here and across the country. I'm excited
- 29:08Speaker 8: by what the next chapter holds, but I look forward
- 29:12Speaker 8: to those challenges as they come.
- 29:14Speaker 4: All Right, always pleasure in the show, sir, appreciate you
- 29:16Speaker 4: being here. We'll talk. We'll talk after the session. Beautiful studios.
- 29:20Speaker 8: Congratulations on your new show.

- 32:16Speaker 6: bring in Brian Hughes Storm Chapter thirteen. Mister Hughes, good morning,
- 32:19Speaker 6: welcome to the show.
- 32:21Speaker 15: Well, good morning to you watching my four a lung game.
- 32:24Speaker 15: Get a viscerated and I'm ready to go take an out?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Well you started, I mean well, well, probably have you
- 32:32Speaker 6: e been slept, I mean since last night or at
- 32:34Speaker 6: all fifteen minutes here?
- 32:37Speaker 15: I wish I could have at this point, but we started.
- 32:40Speaker 15: We were on the air somewhere around two before two
- 32:43Speaker 15: thirty this morning and pretty much have not had a
- 32:46Speaker 15: break yet.
- 32:47Speaker 6: All right, so let's talk about this weather system, because
- 32:49Speaker 6: you know, we've had some heavy rain here in the
- 32:51Speaker 6: charleson air of the last hour or so. But from
- 32:54Speaker 6: what I understand, and maybe something changed since I got here.
- 32:57Speaker 6: Maybe a little bit of a lull during the daytime hours,
- 32:59Speaker 6: but I like, that's what and I even quoted you
- 33:01Speaker 6: what you said on the air this morning. It's like
- 33:03Speaker 6: a twelve hour window, you know. So those of us
- 33:05Speaker 6: that were driving in this morning battling the rain and
- 33:07Speaker 6: the wind and everything that came with it, as we
- 33:10Speaker 6: head home from work this afternoon could be more of
- 33:12Speaker 6: the same.
- 33:13Speaker 15: Yeah, I think there's a real possibility that a long
- 33:16Speaker 15: eye six before. It really depends on let me, let
- 33:18Speaker 15: me start this. I'm saying, it really depends on how
- 33:21Speaker 15: far north this rain that we have moves if it can.
- 33:25Speaker 15: You know, at the southern edge of this rain, wherever
- 33:28Speaker 15: it's located about two o'clock afternoon, anywhere north of that
- 33:33Speaker 15: line is going to be just general rain and some
- 33:36Speaker 15: rumbles of thunder. South of that line, that's where we
- 33:40Speaker 15: will have thunderstorms fire back up, and some of those
- 33:43Speaker 15: could be strong to severe. Because what we need in
- 33:45Speaker 15: order for the atmosphere to rejuvenate is we need some
- 33:48Speaker 15: skies to.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Dry up for a little bit.
- 33:50Speaker 15: And so if you just look at the radar about
- 33:53Speaker 15: two o'clock to afternoon and go, well, there's the bottom
- 33:56Speaker 15: edge of the rain or the southern extent of the rain.
- 33:58Speaker 15: Anywhere north that much, everything's fine for the rest of
- 34:01Speaker 15: the after needing, but he wears south of that is
- 34:03Speaker 15: something that we have to watch for. And all hazards
- 34:05Speaker 15: are on the table. I mean, we've got flood warnings
- 34:07Speaker 15: that are out right now because we got some creeks
- 34:09Speaker 15: and streams that are up. But for this afternoon, anywhere
- 34:13Speaker 15: south of that edge of the rain, we had the
- 34:16Speaker 15: potential for help producing thunderstorms, damage to wing gus and
- 34:20Speaker 15: you cannot rule out an isolated tornado or two.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Talking to with Bryan Hughes from Storm Track of thirteen,
- 34:25Speaker 6: and we had the tornado warnings, the sounds that went
- 34:28Speaker 6: off here in the Kanaal Valley earlier this morning. At
- 34:32Speaker 6: this point, had they had there been confirmed tornadoes anywhere,
- 34:35Speaker 6: because I know a couple of days ago we had
- 34:37Speaker 6: some in Kentucky, Pike County, Floyd County, I think it was.
- 34:39Speaker 6: But anything even out of the Canal Valley that we
- 34:42Speaker 6: know so far, what.
- 34:44Speaker 15: We're looking at, what we will look at and later on,
- 34:48Speaker 15: and you know, we've got phone calls that are out
- 34:50Speaker 15: to various agencies. Is we got to look across southern
- 34:52Speaker 15: Kanal County back down to Danville Madison, you know, that's
- 34:56Speaker 15: where the storm really ramped up and across the mine
- 35:00Speaker 15: just out to the west of there, you know, that's
- 35:02Speaker 15: where obviously it's in the in that mind t try,
- 35:05Speaker 15: it's one of the largest mines in you know, in
- 35:06Speaker 15: the in the state.
- 35:07Speaker 4: It's o them largest.
- 35:08Speaker 15: Uh. And so you're not gonna have a lot of
- 35:10Speaker 15: territory that you're gonna find tornado damage just because of
- 35:13Speaker 15: the nature of things. But there's a lot of trees
- 35:17Speaker 15: that are down in a number of locations, hit and
- 35:19Speaker 15: miss here and there. But if they're gonna find it,
- 35:21Speaker 15: we're gonna find Danvil Madison over to about the Shillian
- 35:25Speaker 15: Bridge e Spank area for any type of damage that
- 35:28Speaker 15: would be a little more substantial. But otherwise, lots of
- 35:32Speaker 15: crash cans are in your neighbor's yard, lots of trees down,
- 35:36Speaker 15: some power lines here here and there, but it is
- 35:38Speaker 15: very sporadic.
- 35:39Speaker 6: I'd hope to have you on the air to talk
- 35:41Speaker 6: about the regatta today, but the mayor had to take
- 35:43Speaker 6: your place because as I texted you yesterday, ask you
- 35:46Speaker 6: if you were coming in to talk about the Regatta Entertainment.
- 35:49Speaker 6: You were a little bit busy, and I completely understand
- 35:51Speaker 6: that because you and Spencer and Chris and you guys
- 35:53Speaker 6: do do a great job over there. So what current
- 35:55Speaker 6: watches and warnings are we under at this time for
- 35:58Speaker 6: the Kanau Valley.
- 36:00Speaker 15: We are under a flood warning here across the Canal
- 36:03Speaker 15: Valley and that is once again because the creaks and
- 36:06Speaker 15: streams are running high this morning. Now we do expect
- 36:09Speaker 15: those that slowly, slowly go down, but you know it's
- 36:13Speaker 15: not a lot of them. It's hit and miss where
- 36:14Speaker 15: you get a couple of valleys where you've got some
- 36:16Speaker 15: heavier rain. So that's happening. If we do get the
- 36:20Speaker 15: atmosphere to rejuvenate today, you could expect a tornado watch
- 36:23Speaker 15: or severe finitial watch this afternoon. This evening, we expect
- 36:26Speaker 15: most of the activity to be to be done by
- 36:28Speaker 15: seven to eight.
- 36:28Speaker 4: O'clock at the latest.
- 36:30Speaker 15: Anything and any of the storms that fire back up
- 36:32Speaker 15: this afternoon would fire back up around two o'clock. So
- 36:36Speaker 15: two to seven, maybe eight o'clock in the latest will
- 36:39Speaker 15: be the thunderstorm window potential. But again it would be
- 36:43Speaker 15: south of where the what we called a rain shield
- 36:46Speaker 15: is located.
- 36:47Speaker 6: All right, Brian, we'll be watching and listening as always,
- 36:49Speaker 6: my friend. I appreciate you being here, and maybe we'll
- 36:51Speaker 6: have you on to talk about Regatt at some point,
- 36:53Speaker 6: but it's going to do your day.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Job first, right, Yeah, I got to do the paying
- 36:57Speaker 4: job first, all right.
- 36:58Speaker 6: Man, appreciate you, buddy, Thanks a lot. I'm good meteorologist.
- 37:01Speaker 6: Brian Hughes from Storm Track of thirteen. But Dave Allen
- 37:03Speaker 6: show on five Any Lives brought to you in part
- 37:05Speaker 6: by Morgan and Morgan with more than twenty billion dollars recovered.
- 37:08Speaker 6: They believe that when you're injured, you deserve more. Morgan
- 37:10Speaker 6: and Morgan America's largest injury law firm. I mean, I
- 37:13Speaker 6: have a couple of texts here Texas, Dave, going back
- 37:16Speaker 6: to yesterday's show, how can it be legal to flood
- 37:19Speaker 6: folks with ads for sports betting apps also known as
- 37:22Speaker 6: Internet bookies, But Sammy's small gambling choint can't advertise? That
- 37:27Speaker 6: was my point exactly on the show yesterday. Go back
- 37:31Speaker 6: and listen to it if you want to know exactly
- 37:33Speaker 6: what I was talking about. But let's see Daves as
- 37:36Speaker 6: a text or is it my imagination or when I
- 37:39Speaker 6: was growing up here, I rarely heard the word tornado mentioned,
- 37:42Speaker 6: and now it seems like every other storm. I'm about
- 37:45Speaker 6: your age, so may just not have been paying attention
- 37:48Speaker 6: when I was younger. Now I would agree with that,
- 37:50Speaker 6: And I'm like, I'm not a weather historian by any
- 37:52Speaker 6: stretch of the imagination, but very rarely do I ever
- 37:55Speaker 6: even hear remember growing up as a kid hearing the
- 37:58Speaker 6: term tornado as it. And I'm gonna say that it
- 38:02Speaker 6: hasn't happened, because we've had deadly tornadoes in West Virginia
- 38:04Speaker 6: in the past, but I don't remember it. I don't
- 38:07Speaker 6: remember it all that much. I agree with what the
- 38:09Speaker 6: texture says to Dave Allen showing five at Eyline. Brought

- 42:46Speaker 6: that when you say the media, maybe you should say

- 42:52Speaker 6: to look, if you want to say liberal media, if
- 42:54Speaker 6: you want to say conservative media, that's fine. I just
- 42:57Speaker 6: I do have an issue when people say the media,
- 42:58Speaker 6: because what exactly is is the media. Tex says, I

- 44:40Speaker 15: I'm trying to figure that out.
- 44:41Speaker 4: You know that texture, and I do appreciate that texture.
- 44:44Speaker 6: By the way, by saying it's the bigger media, not
- 44:47Speaker 6: Metro News specifically because other people have.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Called us out.
- 44:51Speaker 6: My pet peeve again, as people know, is when people
- 44:54Speaker 6: just say the media like we're all just like there's
- 44:57Speaker 6: a big building down on Courier Street where the media
- 44:59Speaker 6: reports every day.
- 45:00Speaker 19: Well, as Chris Steyarwald has pointed out, there is no
