- 0:00Speaker 1: Staying in the sec alabama and mississippi state we are
- 0:05Speaker 1: presented by prize picks let's talk about can we ever
- 0:09Speaker 1: get tired of talking about camario taylor camario taylor who
- 0:13Speaker 1: listen not many people were it was really just now
- 0:15Speaker 1: that i think about it it was really just us
- 0:17Speaker 1: we've been on the camario tay uh taylor bandwagon train
- 0:21Speaker 1: sorry uh for for quite a while and i just
- 0:23Speaker 1: would like to pass on the backs because we were
- 0:24Speaker 1: the only ones doing it shout out to us boys
- 0:26Speaker 1: uh cole what do you got there in the sec
- 0:29Speaker 1: and uh In cowbell country this weekend.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Have you seen the weather? It's going to be like
- 0:35Speaker 2: 75% rain right now. 65 degrees, 75% rain at kickoff
- 0:39Speaker 2: at 11.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And Bama run the ball. Interesting.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Oh, boy.
- 0:43Speaker 3: This is an interesting one because I'll tell you what.
- 0:45Speaker 2: If you told me that this was going to be
- 0:47Speaker 2: a shootout, I think that we would get in for
- 0:48Speaker 2: an epic performance between two of the best quarterbacks in
- 0:51Speaker 2: the country.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Because let's be real for one second.
- 0:54Speaker 2: We have not done enough, I think, praise for how
- 0:57Speaker 2: well Keelan Russell has looked this season because of just
- 1:00Speaker 2: how many other good quarterbacks are making strides, like Kamario
- 1:03Speaker 2: Taylor and like a train at Shamless.
- 1:05Speaker 3: But Keelan Russell's been legit.
- 1:08Speaker 2: That said, if you take away the passing element in
- 1:10Speaker 2: this game, where both these teams are going to have
- 1:12Speaker 2: to trust who can run the football more, that's going
- 1:15Speaker 2: to make this kind.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Of a boring sludge fest.
- 1:17Speaker 2: But I think it's really interesting for a lot of
- 1:19Speaker 2: different reasons because Alabama this season has looked better running
- 1:23Speaker 2: the football than I think we all expected. And they
- 1:25Speaker 2: have four guys. that are also able to run the
- 1:27Speaker 2: football in certain roles. If you need those hard yards
- 1:30Speaker 2: after contact, that's Daniel Hill. If you want those runs
- 1:33Speaker 2: to the outside, that's Treshawn Brown. If you want to
- 1:35Speaker 2: be able to get the elusiveness in the open field,
- 1:37Speaker 2: that's EJ Cruella. And then AK Deer.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Potentially could come back for this game.
- 1:41Speaker 2: So there's so many ways I think Alabama with this
- 1:43Speaker 2: offense underneath Ryan Grubb could be able to have a
- 1:46Speaker 2: rushing attack that is very potent. But on the flip side,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think the best running back in this game is
- 1:51Speaker 2: going to be on Mississippi State with Fluff Bothwell. Fluff
- 1:53Speaker 2: Bothwell had a phenomenal performance last week against Missouri. I
- 1:57Speaker 2: think against power forward teams, he's averaging like 120 yards.
- 2:00Speaker 2: He's gotten like five and a half yards a clip.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So Alabama's defense in slippery environments. Is this one to
- 2:07Speaker 2: where you watch him zip zap zap his way through contact?
- 2:09Speaker 3: He's gaining six. He's gaining seven.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And he's kind of allowing you to open up the
- 2:13Speaker 2: playbook for Jeff Levy with Kamario Taylor to maybe just
- 2:16Speaker 2: find Francisco McGee or an Anthony Evans downfield. I think
- 2:20Speaker 2: that what you look at in the wide receiver matchup,
- 2:23Speaker 2: I think that Alabama has more depth at their wide receivers.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Like I really do like getting back at Noah Rogers.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think that what you have with Rico Scott and
- 2:30Speaker 2: you throw in a Derek Meadows even. They're really talented playmakers,
- 2:35Speaker 2: along with Ryan Coleman-Williams and Lottie Brooks. But the best
- 2:37Speaker 2: receiver in this game, I think, is Anthony Evans. And
- 2:39Speaker 2: I've watched him be able to hit 24 miles per
- 2:42Speaker 2: hour and basically burn past defensive backs in Alabama for
- 2:46Speaker 2: as good as they are in the secondary, which they
- 2:48Speaker 2: are a good team.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Their defense is legit. We watched Deuce Robinson go up
- 2:53Speaker 3: for big explosives. We have seen Mimsy go up for
- 2:56Speaker 3: big explosives.
- 2:57Speaker 2: We've seen Nick Harbour last week break the ankles of
- 3:01Speaker 2: Dijon Lee for a touchdown. These are things that we
- 3:04Speaker 2: have witnessed before. So if it comes down to the explosives,
- 3:07Speaker 2: that's an area to where I think Mississippi State can
- 3:09Speaker 2: really win.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I think that the offensive line has done a really.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Nice job for Alabama after the crap that we gave
- 3:15Speaker 2: them in that Florida State game to begin things on off.
- 3:17Speaker 2: The big question is, will it happen again against an
- 3:20Speaker 2: underrated defensive line that is not getting its flowers underneath
- 3:24Speaker 2: new coordinator Zach Garnett. If you give Keelan Russell time
- 3:27Speaker 2: to be able to find open targets, that's a win.
- 3:29Speaker 2: The other side of the ball, can you give Kamario
- 3:31Speaker 2: Taylor time to find open weapons? Because if the last
- 3:34Speaker 2: thing that you don't want to do is have a
- 3:36Speaker 2: gain of 20, but then here comes 54 with another
- 3:39Speaker 2: penalty for a holding call against Yonze Pierre, and it's
- 3:43Speaker 2: a loss of 10. So I think that's another element
- 3:46Speaker 2: that's really important in this game. Kelly Jones versus Ryan
- 3:49Speaker 2: Coleman Williams is a matchup that I'm very excited to see.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I think that he has been probably the best cornerback
- 3:54Speaker 2: in the SEC this season.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Can he shut down.
- 3:57Speaker 2: The go-to guy for the passing attack? And then how
- 3:59Speaker 2: do you have an answer for the Alabama tight ends?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I mean, like, we do not talk enough about, I think,
- 4:04Speaker 2: what they have been so far this season. And the
- 4:06Speaker 2: other thing is that if they're able to be a
- 4:08Speaker 2: factor on short to intermediate throws, then Alabama may be
- 4:12Speaker 2: able to play with tempo. They may be able to
- 4:13Speaker 2: trust that their run game is going to be lethal.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And they may just need to score 15, I mean,
- 4:17Speaker 2: maybe score 20, 21. And that might be enough for
- 4:21Speaker 2: you to be able to say, our defense is going
- 4:23Speaker 2: to shut down a quarterback like Kamario Taylor because he's
- 4:25Speaker 2: not gone up against a defense like us. We feel
- 4:28Speaker 2: confident winning in Starkville for this one.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip from The Power
- 4:32Speaker 1: 2 on college football addiction. But first, I want to
- 4:35Speaker 1: tell you, we picked everything that you see right now.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'll tell you, we all took the more on Jaden
- 4:40Speaker 1: Ball's touchdowns. We all took the more on Jeremiah Smith's touchdowns.
- 4:43Speaker 1: We all took the more on Jeremiah Smith and Jaden
- 4:45Speaker 1: Ball's rushing slash receiving totals that they have there. We
- 4:48Speaker 1: took the more on Malachi Toney. I took the less
- 4:51Speaker 1: on Ryan Coleman Williams. So go check out the show.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You can hear what our live predictions were. You can
- 4:56Speaker 1: hear our thought process behind all of them. And then
- 4:59Speaker 1: go get on the Price Picks app. Use our code HMA.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Play $ 5. Get $ 150 in lineups instantly when you win.
- 5:07Speaker 1: If you place a $ 5 lineup and win using that
- 5:09Speaker 1: code HMA only. Make sure that you are on the
- 5:12Speaker 1: Price Picks app.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Alright, now back to the clip.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Kamario Taylor has been so impressive. Thoughts on just this
- 5:21Speaker 1: Alabama defense in general? Good performance Saturday, but it was
- 5:26Speaker 1: also South Carolina. I do want to, so I, you know, you,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you are kind of considering kind of the mess that
- 5:30Speaker 1: they're in right now. The time before that, when they
- 5:33Speaker 1: were all at home, you know, Florida State, they let
- 5:35Speaker 1: Ashton Daniels throw for 377 and they go up 36 points,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know, teams rebound. There were a lot of possessions.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Bama's offense didn't really put their defense. I really had
- 5:44Speaker 1: to lock in.
- 5:45Speaker 3: They did get.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Stops in the second half, but just thoughts around what
- 5:49Speaker 1: Kamario Taylor can do against this defense.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I mean, he can do whatever he wants because he's
- 5:54Speaker 2: going to do it against everybody this season if he
- 5:56Speaker 2: plays within structure. It's just, I do think that there
- 5:59Speaker 2: is a level of an Alabama defense that he has
- 6:01Speaker 2: not seen up to this point. So what are we
- 6:03Speaker 2: going to witness in this matchup where... A couple weeks ago,
- 6:06Speaker 2: we talked about the holding penalties and the penalties just
- 6:08Speaker 2: in general in that matchup in Willie B, where they
- 6:11Speaker 2: were down by 16, and Dylan Stewart was winning, and
- 6:14Speaker 2: Herring was winning, and they got the holding calls, which
- 6:17Speaker 2: kind of negated plays that could have been turnovers. Well,
- 6:20Speaker 2: what happens if you don't get the holding calls? Because
- 6:21Speaker 2: if Janze Pierre just bullies you up front. But the
- 6:24Speaker 2: explosives is something that I'm very interested in in this game.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And I think it's really important because.
- 6:28Speaker 2: We have seen consistently, I mean consistently, consistently, Alabama give
- 6:34Speaker 2: up an explosive. And honestly, as much as Deuce Robinson,
- 6:37Speaker 2: I think is a game changer at wide receiver. Anthony
- 6:40Speaker 2: Evans has been better than Deuce Robinson this year. He's
- 6:42Speaker 2: been more consistent than Deuce Robinson.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He has a better quarterback thrown to him.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I'll say he's definitely, that's not even, that's not trying.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 1: That's not me trying to like make a joke. Like
- 6:49Speaker 1: he just does.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Great.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And again, you talk, you talk about this is the,
- 6:53Speaker 2: this defense in general is, When they're on point, they're
- 6:56Speaker 2: on point. I mean, it was a 32-0 shutout in
- 6:58Speaker 2: the second half against Kentucky. It was a dismantling until
- 7:02Speaker 2: they said otherwise against South Carolina. But I will also say,
- 7:06Speaker 2: the thing that worries me with Alabama, it's the thing
- 7:08Speaker 2: that has worried me all season.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Slow starts.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like, Alabama, before this game against South Carolina last week,
- 7:15Speaker 2: doesn't wake up and realizes there's a football matchup going
- 7:17Speaker 2: on until like eight minutes into the second quarter. You
- 7:20Speaker 2: don't do that and come back against a Mississippi State offense.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Mississippi State will just keep its foot on the gas
- 7:25Speaker 2: and go, hey, find a way. We're not letting up.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So you're going to have to find a way to
- 7:29Speaker 2: score more than us and get.
- 7:30Speaker 3: A pick six or something along those lines. So talent's there.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Expectations are there.
- 7:35Speaker 2: There's definitely a lot to love about this Alabama offense
- 7:38Speaker 2: and defense. But there's also a lot to love about
- 7:40Speaker 2: this Mississippi State team. And they have the home field advantage.
- 7:43Speaker 3: And they're playing with momentum.
- 7:44Speaker 2: So it's an opportunity for them to kind of make
- 7:46Speaker 2: a statement.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Tom, thoughts here?
- 7:51Speaker 4: If I'm Alabama's defense, my goal is to put Kamario
- 7:54Speaker 4: Taylor in hell. I don't think this Mississippi State offensive
- 7:59Speaker 4: line is otherworldly by any means. I think the production
- 8:02Speaker 4: you've seen out of the running game from Fluff Bothwell
- 8:05Speaker 4: has been to a degree because of Fluff Bothwell and
- 8:08Speaker 4: the competition. This is going to be a huge step
- 8:10Speaker 4: up in competition. That front seven is going to be
- 8:13Speaker 4: able to torment the Mississippi State offensive line. And this
- 8:17Speaker 4: will be one of the first games, if not the
- 8:19Speaker 4: first game, where Camario Taylor has to be the reason
- 8:23Speaker 4: that they win. And it's not to say that he
- 8:24Speaker 4: hasn't already, but he's been able to elevate everybody around him.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Can he do that to the point to overcome Alabama?
- 8:31Speaker 4: That's the question in this, because your goal as the
- 8:35Speaker 4: Alabama defense is to disrupt his feet. You want to
- 8:38Speaker 4: make him run around and you want to make him
- 8:39Speaker 4: make decisions when he's not prepared to, because he has
- 8:41Speaker 4: had a lot of time in the pocket, throw those
- 8:43Speaker 4: moon balls. We've seen that for quite some time. If
- 8:45Speaker 4: fluff Bothwell can't get going, then it's all going to
- 8:48Speaker 4: be on Camario. He's going to be running around quite
- 8:51Speaker 4: a bit. It's not exactly going to be phase on
- 8:53Speaker 4: Brandon against Texas. I think that he has a little
- 8:55Speaker 4: bit more ability, frankly, a lot more ability, but you
- 8:58Speaker 4: don't want to put your quarterback in that situation where
- 9:00Speaker 4: he's taken multiple hits against this Alabama defense. And on
- 9:03Speaker 4: the flip side, I think Keelan Russell is playing pretty
- 9:06Speaker 4: damn good quarterback right now. Not even just best in
- 9:08Speaker 4: the sec, maybe top 10, top five in the country
- 9:11Speaker 4: right now. So I think as long as they can
- 9:13Speaker 4: keep him on schedule the way that they like within
- 9:16Speaker 4: that offense and, run the football effectively. I don't think
- 9:19Speaker 4: Mississippi State defensively is going to present anything for Alabama
- 9:22Speaker 4: that really terrifies them in this. I think if the
- 9:25Speaker 4: weather is a factor, you could see the score come
- 9:28Speaker 4: down and you could see this be something where the
- 9:30Speaker 4: under is very likely. I'm going to take Mississippi State
- 9:33Speaker 4: to cover the spread, but still fall to Alabama. I
- 9:38Speaker 4: have it at a score of 24 to 20 for
- 9:39Speaker 4: the Crimson Tide.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think Alabama wins a little bit more comfortably. It's
- 9:45Speaker 1: a great game where Alabama scores late. A lot of
- 9:47Speaker 1: the same logic as Tom. Weather keeps us a little
- 9:50Speaker 1: slower scoring. Taylor does some things. I would even look
- 9:54Speaker 1: at a first half line of Mississippi State. It's going
- 9:57Speaker 1: to be plus points because they're the underdog. Just give
- 10:00Speaker 1: me the line of Mississippi. If you really want to
- 10:02Speaker 1: put it on the money line, then stick your neck
- 10:04Speaker 1: out there. But whatever it is, Mississippi State plus four
- 10:07Speaker 1: or whatever at halftime, I think there's probably some value
- 10:10Speaker 1: in that. I'm making that line up. So if somebody
- 10:12Speaker 1: has it, then great. But look into that right before
- 10:15Speaker 1: kickoff in a low scoring game where You could see
- 10:18Speaker 1: Bama start slow, Kamaru Taylor do something special early, and
- 10:21Speaker 1: then Bama start to come a little more to life
- 10:22Speaker 1: and ended up winning this. Sometimes the books even offer
- 10:25Speaker 1: like a first half winner, second half winner together. So
- 10:29Speaker 1: give me Mississippi State first half, Bama second half. There's
- 10:31Speaker 1: some value, I think, there. But yeah, I think Bama's
- 10:36Speaker 1: offense is playing at a different level right now. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: picked the upset last week for Tennessee, Texas, so I
- 10:43Speaker 1: try not to be all chalk, but I'm going back
- 10:45Speaker 1: to some chalk this week. Give me Alabama to win
- 10:47Speaker 1: this by 10, 30 to 20.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I think that if you really want to break this
- 10:54Speaker 2: all down, it comes down to which defensive backfield is
- 10:57Speaker 2: going to allow more explosives. And right now, Alabama ranks
- 11:01Speaker 2: 88th in the country in pass defense.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Mississippi State ranks 114th. I think that there is just.
- 11:06Speaker 2: One more throw made by Keelan Russell and one more
- 11:09Speaker 2: run made by Daniel Hill that is going to separate
- 11:11Speaker 2: this game. I think this is very low scoring in
- 11:14Speaker 2: the first half. I wouldn't be shocked to see this
- 11:16Speaker 2: be like 10-3. I think in the second half, weather permitting,
- 11:20Speaker 2: Sun kind of comes on out.
- 11:21Speaker 3: You got a little bit more in the passing game.
- 11:23Speaker 2: You still have Kamario Taylor look really good, but Keelan
- 11:25Speaker 2: Russell just looks a little bit better.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I'm going to get a variance with TJ. I think
- 11:29Speaker 3: it's about a 10-point swing. I'm going to take Alabama.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I got 27-17.
