- 1:25Also, my final thoughts, I'll talk about why Tim Skipper, the
- 1:29UCLA interim head coach, needs a little bit more praise than what
- 1:33he is being given right now is he's kind of the afterthought of
- 1:38that coaching staff at UCLA. So plenty to cover on a great

- 3:05miss it. So those are the announcements
- 3:09for today's episode. Let's get into the action.
- 3:12I want to begin with this and it's my week 8 takeaways for the
- 3:16college football season and. It is.
- 3:19Crazy how fast this season has flown by.
- 3:23It feels like yesterday I was sitting here talking about Week
- 3:261 and we were doing, you know, my top 25 teams heading into the
- 3:31season, the top ten players and, and top 10 quarterbacks and all
- 3:34this stuff. And now you bat an eye and it's
- 3:37October, about to be November. Halloween's in 10 days.
- 3:41Oh my gosh, folks. Oh my gosh.
- 3:43But hey, that's what college football is all about.
- 3:46It just flies by because you're having so much fun.
- 3:48And I've had so much fun covering it this season.
- 3:51We'll begin with Tennessee Alabama, and then we'll go down
- 3:53the list. I'll talk about some games a
- 3:55little bit longer than others, and then we'll kind of dive into
- 3:58some smaller takeaways. But if you've listened before,
- 4:01you know how this rolls. Let's begin with Tennessee
- 4:04Alabama as the 11th ranked Tennessee Volunteers travel to
- 4:09Tuscaloosa to take on #6 Alabama, One of the hottest
- 4:13teams in the country are the Tide.
- 4:16And this was the classic third Saturday in October, one of the
- 4:19most anticipated matchups in the SEC every season.
- 4:23And when Tennessee and Alabama are both ranked, it adds a lot
- 4:27of intensity to it. And at least pre game, there was
- 4:31a lot of intensity and, and the score is a little bit more
- 4:34lopsiding than the game actually was, as Tennessee did have their
- 4:39fair amount of opportunities. But Alabama wins 37 to 20 and
- 4:43this one and Alabama came out early, had a 10 play, 78 yard
- 4:49scoring drive. Or excuse me, the the Vols had
- 4:52that in response to Alabama's first score of the game, I
- 4:55should say. So Alabama takes the lead and
- 4:58then Tennessee goes 10 plays, 78 yards.
- 5:01Joey Aguilar finds Braylon Staley.
- 5:03We're knotted up at 7 apiece. It kind of feels like we're
- 5:06going to be in for a good one. And then Alabama is able to make
- 5:10a couple of big plays down the stretch of this one.
- 5:12They get a safety on Joey Aguilar and the end zone.
- 5:17They go down and score and capitalize on that mistake for
- 5:19the Volunteers at 16-7. And then Tennessee drives down
- 5:24the field, gets into the red zone, and Xavion Brown makes one
- 5:30of the craziest plays of the season.
- 5:32There have not been many moments in my life or my jaw has just
- 5:35naturally dropped and like I haven't even like noticed what
- 5:39happened. Like just naturally the jaw
- 5:42drops, right? That was that play.
- 5:44I I really can't think of that many times that it's happened.
- 5:48But it was just was so just so sudden.
- 5:52So just you're in that spot and and you and you believe that
- 5:57Tennessee's going to either punch it in or incomplete settle
- 6:00for a field goal. But no, it goes 99 yards the
- 6:02other way. Sabian Brown makes a big time
- 6:04play. This is 23, seven at halftime
- 6:07and that's when it kind of fell out of reach for the balls.
- 6:10Tennessee's able to kind of fight their way back in the
- 6:12second-half. They get a couple of stops,
- 6:14They're get a, they get a score. But just the deficit of 16
- 6:18points was a little bit too much to come back from an overall.
- 6:22Alabama gets another win, their four straight top 25 win over an
- 6:27SEC opponent. They they are rolling right now
- 6:30folks, and it's very difficult to do what they're doing, but
- 6:34they've done it. Georgia, Missouri, Vanderbilt,
- 6:37now Tennessee, this is a team that right now is playing with a
- 6:41ton of confidence and has a great identity.
- 6:43So let me talk about Alabama real quick before I get into a
- 6:47slew of things about Tennessee. Obviously many of you know I
- 6:51cover Tennessee here in Knoxville for Fox Sports
- 6:53Knoxville and I do a daily radio show.
- 6:57I talk about this team every day.
- 6:59I listen to the press conferences.
- 7:00I do it all. So I do know a good bit about
- 7:02this Tennessee team and I'll dive into it here in a second.
- 7:05But let me give credit to Alabama because their turn
- 7:08around since Week 0 almost unbelievable.
- 7:13Florida State loses this weekend to Stanford and Alabama beats
- 7:18Tennessee at home. The type of changes and
- 7:23trajectories these two teams have been on since Week 1 is
- 7:26truly astonishing, but Alabama has really fed into their
- 7:30identity with Ryan Grubb. Now Ryan Grubbs, the offensive
- 7:33coordinator, came over with why I guess last year he's in
- 7:38Seattle. I should say he was with the
- 7:39Seattle Seahawks last year, comes over and rejoins with
- 7:44Caitlin De Boer. The two of them were together in
- 7:46Washington when Michael Pennix and company were able to March
- 7:49to the national championship. Ryan Grubb is a really good
- 7:52offensive coordinator and he's done a really great job with
- 7:56this team and formalizing an identity of how they want to
- 8:00play. Heading to this one, Alabama was
- 8:037th in the country in time of possession.
- 8:05They like to sit on the football, they like to wear you
- 8:07out and they're really disciplined to where they're not
- 8:09turning the football over. So heading into this one, it was
- 8:12going to be tough for Tennessee to be able to cause those
- 8:14turnovers and you knew that. But you know, Alabama does give
- 8:18a turnover up in this one. But it doesn't matter because
- 8:20they dominated the time of possession still in the
- 8:24important parts of this game and they were able to play how they
- 8:29wanted to offensively credit Tennessee.
- 8:31They get a couple of stops, but Alabama had 299 yard drives.
- 8:35Methodical dicing Tennessee up, causing a a couple of penalties
- 8:40here and there, pass interference, couple of those
- 8:42really costly for the Volunteers.
- 8:45But even with jam Miller kind of being a Jello Head coming into
- 8:48this one as he got knocked out against Missouri, they decided
- 8:51to play him Saturday. I I didn't think it was a great
- 8:53idea, but Miller was fine. But the rest of the running back
- 8:57room did their job as well, and their time of possession is a.
- 9:01Really, really big. Key of this team.
- 9:03The second is Ty Simpson and I'll admit when I'm wrong.
- 9:06I was not a fan of Ty Simpson heading into the season.
- 9:08If you remember my top 25 episode before the year began, I
- 9:12said I can't rank this team any higher because I don't know
- 9:16about Ty Simpson. I I just haven't seen it.
- 9:18He's been there for years and I haven't really seen anything
- 9:22good or heard anything good about him, so I couldn't trust
- 9:24him. But now I can because he's an
- 9:27efficient, effective quarterback that takes care of the football.
- 9:30And in the SEC, when you're going up against all these top
- 9:3325 teams, that's exactly what you need.
- 9:36And Ty Simpson has been really, really good.
- 9:38And it helps that you have a Jeremy Bernard and Isaiah Horton
- 9:41and Ryan Williams. I thought Williams had a really
- 9:43impressive performance Saturday after a little bit of a quiet
- 9:46start to the season. But when you've got this cast of
- 9:50really talented weapons and you've got a good offensive line
- 9:54and you've got a really, really good offensive coordinator and
- 9:56Ryan Grubb that knows what he's doing.
- 9:59Ty Simpson's already going to be in a good situation.
- 10:01And all he has to do is play the the, the piece of the puzzle,
- 10:05right? He has to fit in with everything
- 10:07else. And he's done exactly that.
- 10:10So I I will say I was wrong about Ty Simpson.
- 10:12He deserves to be right up there in the Heisman Trophy
- 10:14contention. Fernando Mendoza and Diego
- 10:18Pavia, the guy we'll talk about more here in a little bit, I
- 10:21think are up there with them. But Ty Simpson does what he's
- 10:24told to do, follows the system, doesn't make mistakes.
- 10:27And when you've got a roster like Alabama has, you're going
- 10:30to win a lot of football games. And credit to Alabama.
- 10:33They stepped up, made some big plays when they needed it and
- 10:36the offense was able to do their get to their game plan and do
- 10:40exactly what they wanted to do. So credit to Alabama, man, They,
- 10:44they, they played their game and now this is the hottest team in
- 10:47college football or if not one of the hottest teams in college
- 10:51football. So Alabama I was impressed with.
- 10:54I will say I think there is a little bit of concern about the
- 10:59way they are winning because I I do think the opposing teams have
- 11:04made a lot of mistakes on the way.
- 11:06Missouri makes a couple of critical mistakes late game.
- 11:09Vanderbilt has 2 red zone turnovers.
- 11:11Tennessee continues to shoot themselves in the foot.
- 11:14I'll go into depth about that here in a second.
- 11:16Even Georgia, they were really, really bad defensively on 3rd
- 11:19down and that shouldn't be a negative for Alabama because
- 11:22they were able to execute on those plays.
- 11:24But I will say Alabama has been in some arms distance games over
- 11:30this last month. They're winning it.
- 11:32I think that's a great trait for them to be able to win those
- 11:34games. But I will say I'm interested to
- 11:37see if they don't get the benefit of the turnovers or
- 11:40don't get the benefit of executing on 3rd down, if
- 11:44they're able to still stay in an arms race up against, you know,
- 11:47another really good SEC team. That's my only critique and only
- 11:50concern about this team at the moment.
- 11:53Let's go to Tennessee. Tennessee continues to get in
- 11:58their own way, and that's the definition of this team right
- 12:01now. I think Tennessee looked the
- 12:03part offensively Saturday against Alabama, but
- 12:06defensively, this is not a group that's a national championship
- 12:09level team. This is not a national
- 12:12championship level defense. They're way too undisciplined.
- 12:15The tackling and technique is really, really bad, and they
- 12:18continue to put themselves in really tight positions to where
- 12:21the margin of error is really, really slim.
- 12:24And you saw that Saturday to where Alabama's able to drive
- 12:27down the field to begin the game, get in the end zone.
- 12:29Now the pressure's on the offense to get in the end zone,
- 12:31and Tennessee's able to do that. But you have a safety and
- 12:35Alabama marches down. You go up 16, seven.
- 12:37Now you're in a position where you have to respond.
- 12:41And this brings us to one of the most talked about plays this
- 12:44weekend, and that's that final play of the first half.
- 12:48Now, personally, I thought that, you know, I think that
- 12:53situational football's really key in a moment like this.
- 12:55Obviously, it's easy to go back and just dissect one play and
- 12:59say, well, I would have ran it or I would have kicked a field
- 13:01goal. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:02I think situationally you Josh Hypel kind of showed what he
- 13:08makes of his defense in that moment because obviously you
- 13:11want to get some points on the board before half.
- 13:13But if Tennessee was to receive in the second-half, you
- 13:17obviously would have taken the field goal there.
- 13:19But if Josh Hypel had enough, enough trust in his defense to
- 13:23get a stop to begin the second-half, I feel like he
- 13:26would have settled for three there and you would have run the
- 13:29clock down to about 3 seconds, call time out and just settle
- 13:31for the field goal, maybe taking a shot at the end zone one time.
- 13:35And maybe that's what they were trying to do if that play didn't
- 13:37work. But it it completely blew up in
- 13:41their face and going jumbo package.
- 13:44I didn't think it was the smartest idea.
- 13:46I would have spreaded them out and and put guys like Chris
- 13:48Brazil and Mike Matthews and Bramon Staley out there.
- 13:51Take your shot at a couple of slant routes or a zig and just
- 13:54try to get something quick. See if you can get man to man
- 13:56coverage. If not, you know, just throw the
- 13:58ball away live to see another down.
- 14:00But the play you run is jumbo. Alabama calls time out.
- 14:03Josh Hypo after the game said they switched the play call
- 14:07following the time out. So now you're in that same
- 14:09formation. And Alabama has still already
- 14:12kind of made-up their mind of how they're going to defend it.
- 14:13So changing the play call really didn't matter because whether it
- 14:17was a run or something different, they stayed in the
- 14:19same formation. So Tennessee runs it.
- 14:22And I didn't think the play in itself was that bad.
- 14:26I just thought the look you gave before the time out was
- 14:29revealing and then you don't execute the play correctly.
- 14:36Joey Aguilar has had a great season.
- 14:38I, I think he's been one of the most impressive stories of the
- 14:40season in college football, but had a really bad ball in this
- 14:43one. Alligator armed it by about, you
- 14:46know, 5 yards of where it should have been in terms of distance
- 14:49to the sideline and he miss. He just missed on this.
- 14:52And Xavier Brown makes a great play. 99 yard touchdown that
- 14:56totally swings this one. Credit to Alabama's defense.
- 14:59They were ready. They were in.
- 15:00Position, but Joey Aguilar should have put this ball a
- 15:02little bit to the outside and I feel like Miles Kitzelman could
- 15:05have caught it and brought it in for a touchdown.
- 15:07And this is a totally different game if that happens.
- 15:10But in that kind of moment, there's one thing you cannot
- 15:13afford an under throw and a turnover.
- 15:17You know you can't either or you know, either an under throw or
- 15:20or a turnover. You can't afford that.
- 15:22You can afford an overthrow, or an incomplete pass, or just
- 15:25mailing it and under an under throw on a on a route that's
- 15:29going far outside. It is just a recipe for
- 15:31disaster, and it was. So that's what I made of that,
- 15:34that the specific play. But as the game went on,
- 15:37Tennessee comes back in the second-half, has an opportunity
- 15:40to respond, and they do. They March down the field.
- 15:41It's 2314. This is a ball game.
- 15:45Actually, 2313, they go for two and miss.
- 15:47But the other really boneheaded play that I was just mind
- 15:54boggled by was the fumble by Ty Simpson.
- 15:58It was kind of an awkward throw and it gets batted behind him.
- 16:02I think it was Joshua Josephs. The defensive end bats it and Ty
- 16:06Simpson still throws it and has a throw in motion but it goes
- 16:09forward. But he didn't have control so
- 16:10they ruled it a fumble. And the crazy thing about?
- 16:13You know, NFL, college, whatever you want to call it like.
- 16:17They'll be the most obvious dead ball possible, but a defender
- 16:22will pick it up and start running like it's a live ball
- 16:24and a touchdown, like everyone in the stadium knows it's a dead
- 16:26ball. Like it happens all the time.
- 16:28You know what I'm referring to. But in this instance, Jaden
- 16:32Perlotti, a freshman linebacker for Tennessee, just bats the
- 16:35ball down. Just bats it.
- 16:38If he picks it up and runs it, it's a touchdown.
- 16:40It's a 3 point game with like 7 minutes left in the third
- 16:45quarter. Totally different ball game if
- 16:47you make that play. Keep in mind.
- 16:51Alabama gets that big pick 6 right before halftime.
- 16:54Totally spurns the way this game goes.
- 16:57Tennessee needed to have a play like that.
- 16:59And I'm not, you know, I'm not saying.
- 17:00That Jane Perlotti is the reason why Tennessee lost.
- 17:03There is a a culmination of a ton of things of of why
- 17:06Tennessee lost this game, but I just don't get a defender not
- 17:10playing a live ball play through the whistle and Tennessee ends
- 17:13up recovering it, but they don't score because they're at the 50
- 17:16yard line and only gain about 7 yards and they have to punt.
- 17:19Jane Perlotti picks that thing up.
- 17:20It's a touchdown. And I like Perlotti a lot.
- 17:23I think he's got great speed. I think he should honestly be
- 17:26playing more, especially over Jeremiah T Lander, a guy that I
- 17:29think is really, really limited in pass coverage.
- 17:32But in that type of moment, like you can't have that stuff
- 17:37happen. You've got to play through the
- 17:39whistle and I, I thought that was a really significant play.
- 17:43Now, as the game went on, you know, Tennessee had their
- 17:45opportunities to maybe get things close, but Alabama has
- 17:48another really long drive and the tackling is poor.
- 17:51The technique is. Bad and boom, you're done.
- 17:54I think Tennessee is a top 15 team in the country.
- 17:58I think Tennessee is a really, really good football team, but
- 18:02they are just so undisciplined. Defensively, in terms of
- 18:06technique and tackling and tackling angles, and they just
- 18:12fall in their own way. Like Tennessee under Josh Hypel
- 18:16in these moments just falls in its own way time and time again.
- 18:20Penalties, really costly ones, bad ones in specific moments,
- 18:25you know, having that interception to end in the first
- 18:28half, not picking it up when it's a live football, just stuff
- 18:31like that. If you want to win in the SEC,
- 18:34if you want to beat Georgia and Alabama.
- 18:37You have got to. Be really, really good at the
- 18:39little things, and that's where Tennessee drops the ball in all
- 18:42these games. Go back to that Georgia game,
- 18:44right? Tennessee's in a position to win
- 18:47that game and you get your kicker in a position.
- 18:51To, you know, knock in what would have been like a 3840.
- 18:56Yard field goal, you back them up because you get a, a false
- 18:59start. You put them in a tougher
- 19:01situation because you have three really vanilla bland run calls
- 19:05like you're not helping out your kicker and kicking a, you know,
- 19:0845 yard field goal is really, really difficult.
- 19:12That's a tough spot for anyone. You know everyone says after
- 19:15that game oh if if Max Gilbert hit this one.
- 19:18No. One play doesn't define a game.
- 19:21You had the football after a big time turnover and and did not
- 19:26move at all early in the fourth quarter and you settle for a
- 19:30field goal. Thank gosh Max Gilbert hit that
- 19:32one because that made it 35. 30 so like you can pin the you know
- 19:36kicker all you want, but the kicker hit a big time field goal
- 19:39earlier in this one so. I thought that was a a ludicrous
- 19:43take because it's just, you know.
- 19:45Bashing the guy that made the play.
- 19:46You know the. The most recent play, keep in
- 19:48mind he had won in overtime as well as the Tennessee tackling.
- 19:50That was terrible in overtime and throughout the course of
- 19:53that Georgia game. But again, you're in a
- 19:56game-winning position and you don't execute correctly, you
- 19:59don't control the controllables correctly, and you back your
- 20:01team up right before you're about to go.
- 20:03Kick. Tennessee continues to get in
- 20:06their own way and if they don't change that, this will be a team
- 20:09that is a three or four loss team this season.
- 20:11And the schedule? Gets pretty difficult.
- 20:13Oklahoma at home here in two weeks at Florida, a place that
- 20:17Tennessee hasn't won since 2003. Then he got Vanderbilt.
- 20:21Oh yeah, Vanderbilt is now a big game and likely could be a play
- 20:27in game for the College Football Playoff.
- 20:29But maybe Tennessee doesn't even get to that point because they
- 20:31drop at Florida. So if Tennessee wants to be a
- 20:34College Football Playoff team this season, I think they have
- 20:37the offense to do it. But the defense is so ungodly
- 20:40and disciplined it makes you throw your hair out.
- 20:43And they continue to not control the controllables and the little
- 20:47things and the pivotal moments. So that's where I currently
- 20:50stand with Tennessee. Credit to Alabama for another
- 20:52big time win. I really like what they do
- 20:54offensively. But my bigger take away from
- 20:56this one is that Tennessee continues to get in its own way.
- 21:00Let's move now to Ole Miss and Georgia, as Georgia survives
- 21:05again is what I've got for this one.
- 21:07Number 9 Georgia defeats Ole Miss 43 to 35.
- 21:12And the 5th ranked Rebels gave a really, really good fight in
- 21:15this one, but we're not able to finish it out.
- 21:18The pre game storylines for me here we're Ole Miss, you know,
- 21:22hits the road after a big time win over LSUA couple of weeks
- 21:25ago. But last week in week 7, a
- 21:29three-point win over Washington State.
- 21:31That was disgusting. Maybe it was a look ahead spot
- 21:34and I was hoping so. And it seemed that way for much
- 21:37of this game. His Ole Miss was really, really
- 21:38solid up until the fourth quarter.
- 21:41But does Ole Miss, you know, bounce back and and what do they
- 21:45look like under, you know, on the road under Lane Kiffin?
- 21:47That's always been the Achilles heel of this team.
- 21:50And then can Georgia avoid back-to-back top 25 losses at
- 21:54home as the last time they were out up against the top 25
- 21:57opponent there was Alabama and they continued to get in their
- 21:59own way of that one. But my, my big take away here is
- 22:03that, you know, Georgia finds a way once again.
- 22:07The Bulldogs totaled 510 yards of offense at 6.4 yards per play
- 22:12at complimentary football, 221 rushing yards and 289 yards in
- 22:17the air and they had 17 fourth quarter points.
- 22:21They were trailing by 9 heading into this one.
- 22:24Georgia offense was able to get in rhythm and I don't think the
- 22:27offense has been at all a concern this season.
- 22:30I think if anything, it's the defense and the inconsistencies
- 22:32you see there. I do have some concern about
- 22:35Gunner Stockton up against zone defenses, but on Saturday he had
- 22:38some success against that. So maybe that's something he's
- 22:41grown from early in the season as Alabama threw a lot of zone
- 22:44at him and that earlier match up and and kind of rattled him.
- 22:48But I thought in this one he looked a little bit more
- 22:51comfortable. Missed a couple of progressions
- 22:52and reads. But this is still a guy that's
- 22:54learning, making his first full season as a starter.
- 22:57So you have to, you know, live and learn with the growing pains
- 23:00here, but. Overall, he goes 26 of 31.
- 23:04Really, really strong number there, 289 for four touchdowns
- 23:07in the year, was really solid in this one.
- 23:10And then 59 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
- 23:14And let's talk about these two running backs.
- 23:16Nate Frazier, 72 yards. Chauncey Bowens, a guy that was
- 23:19really, really impressive in the G Day game back in in in the
- 23:24spring. And he goes for 61 yards.
- 23:26I thought they had a really balanced attack and.
- 23:29We'll talk about these pitiful defenses here in a second as
- 23:32both were horrible Saturday, but I think a a big trait of a
- 23:36championship level team is can you find ways to win?
- 23:39And Alabama has done that so far this season.
- 23:42Georgia has now done it twice, really three times.
- 23:46And I do think it's a concern that they are in these positions
- 23:49in the 1st place. Like last week, Auburn having to
- 23:51go through a fire drill to beat Jackson Arnold and company is
- 23:54not a good sign. But Georgia was able to find a
- 23:57way to win. Winning in the SEC is difficult,
- 24:00I'll give credit for it, but Georgia does it against
- 24:03Tennessee earlier in the season. They're down by double digits in
- 24:06that one and they March back, find a way to win here once
- 24:10again. They're down 9 points heading
- 24:11into the fourth quarter, and George is able to execute and
- 24:15make the plays necessary. So I don't love this Georgia
- 24:18team. I think defensively there are a.
- 24:21Lot of concerns. This is not the Georgia of old,
- 24:25but they find ways to win and that is an attribute of a
- 24:28really, really good coach and that's Kirby Smart.
- 24:30Kirby Smart second-half adjustments are always some of
- 24:33the best in the country. Ole Miss swallowed them in the
- 24:36first half offensively and Georgia was able to be much
- 24:41better in the fourth quarter, the money quarter against the
- 24:44Rebels defensively. But a big part of that is
- 24:46because the offense played complementary football, put them
- 24:49in a good positions to be successful and really marched
- 24:54down the field at ease. I thought this Ole Miss defense
- 24:56was pretty good against LSU. Now we see what LSU looks like
- 25:00after a full body of work, seven weeks of of work of offense.
- 25:04They're not as strong as we'd anticipated.
- 25:07But give credit to Georgia, man. They made some really big plays.
- 25:11Zechariah Branch, Noah Thomas, all those Cats were big.
- 25:14I hate that Colby Young went down with an injury.
- 25:16That was a really, really good player for this group.
- 25:19He's out for the season now, so going to have to a little bit of
- 25:22a pivot for the Bulldogs there. But Georgia finds a way and I
- 25:27think that's an A tribute to their coach and the type of
- 25:30roster they have. Now for Ole Miss.
- 25:32I thought they were impressive. But they stall in the crunch
- 25:36time and for Lane Kiffin, the Achilles heel with the Rebels
- 25:40has been performing on the road and this was almost a signature
- 25:44Rd. win for him. Originally, for me, it was Lane
- 25:47Kiffin's Achilles heel was the big game, and he got one against
- 25:51Penn State in the Peach Bowl a couple years ago.
- 25:53Last year he beat Georgia at home.
- 25:55But the road games have been a bit of a problem.
- 25:58I mean, last year against LSU, that was a game they probably
- 26:00should have won but lost. Florida last year was a. 0
- 26:05tolerance loss. I don't know, like I don't know
- 26:07how you stumble in there and lose that one, especially with
- 26:10what Florida look like throughout that season.
- 26:13Granted, they had some momentum, but still.
- 26:15That's not a that's not a loss that Ole Miss could have
- 26:17afforded that cost him a College Football Playoff spot.
- 26:21And in this one, I thought Ole Miss was a better team for 3/4,
- 26:26but offensively they were really, really bad in the 4th
- 26:29and couldn't get anything to go. Going into that final drive for
- 26:32the Rebels, Ole Miss only had one yard in the fourth quarter.
- 26:35And I mean, basically just giving Georgia really quick, you
- 26:38know, quick 3 and outs, having the opportunity to get back on
- 26:42the offensive side of the ball. And that's why.
- 26:45Georgia was able to put up 17 points in this fourth quarter.
- 26:48They just kept on getting gifted opportunities.
- 26:51So I do think Ole Miss is evolving with Lane Kiffin.
- 26:55I, I think they are growing. I think they're getting more
- 26:56comfortable in these big games. And I thought Lane Kiffin
- 26:59actually coached a, a really good game on on Saturday.
- 27:01Offensively, he, he recognizes when there's a, a, a, a player
- 27:06open or when he likes a match up.
- 27:08Stribbling had a couple of really big plays in this one
- 27:11because Kiffin is jumping up and down saying get the ball, get
- 27:14the ball, get the ball to. Him What is it?
- 27:17A Harrison Wallace, I don't know.
- 27:20I don't know if it's a Harrison Wall.
- 27:21So there, there are a lot of names I've got to know folks.
- 27:23So I'm sorry I don't have them exactly in front of me.
- 27:26But Kiffin was really good on the sidelines saying, hey,
- 27:30Trinidad, right over here. Right over here, let's get it to
- 27:33this guy because we got one-on-one coverage, had a big
- 27:35touchdown from it. So I think Kiffin is getting
- 27:38better in these games, but he's got to finish it and was not
- 27:41able to do that Saturday. Looking at the specific numbers,
- 27:44the players I do have in front of me, Trinidad Chambliss goes
- 27:4719 of 36, a little bit inflated because they had to throw the
- 27:50ball a lot. And those final possessions, he
- 27:52goes for 263 yards and a touchdown in the air, 9 carries,
- 27:5642 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns on the ground.
- 27:59A big number right here though, Kiwan Lacy, 12 carries for 31
- 28:04yards and two touchdowns and that gets us into that final
- 28:08take away here. Both defenses struggle, but
- 28:11Georgia halts the run. Ole Miss runs for just 88 yards
- 28:15at 3.67 yards per carry here. That's really tough on the road
- 28:20when when you're trying to play, you know, complimentary
- 28:24football, your offense is able to get a ton of production in in
- 28:28the passing game. You need to be able to balance
- 28:30it out and Kiwan Lacy's been really, really good this year.
- 28:32I I like him a lot but was a non factor really outside of the red
- 28:36zone and. I thought that really hurt on
- 28:39this in this one, not being able to establish the run and and
- 28:42kind of a secondary option to, you know, Georgia playing, you
- 28:46know, farther back, farther into the passing, you know, passing
- 28:50game, passing defense. So that was big.
- 28:53But this game featured 861 yards between the two teams.
- 28:57It's not like either defense was really impressive.
- 28:59And maybe this is just one of these juggernaut games where two
- 29:01offenses are really In Sync and you're able to get a, you know,
- 29:06high flying offensive performance for a viewer.
- 29:08That's great. This was a fun game to watch.
- 29:10One of the more fun ones from Saturday.
- 29:12But Georgia, I still have deep concerns with defensively.
- 29:17This is just not the same unit as we've known in the past, an
- 29:19Ole Miss, like they're getting a lot of credit right now for that
- 29:23LSU win. But you've seen that LSU offense
- 29:26over the last couple of weeks. It's just not that strong.
- 29:28And Arkansas comes in and puts up 35 points.
- 29:32Wazoo, A-Team, that's garbage. Puts up 21 points.
- 29:36I don't know, maybe, maybe a little bit of a concern with Ole
- 29:38Miss offense or excuse me, Ole Miss defensively.
- 29:42But again, Georgia finds a way. They stop the run and Ole Miss
- 29:47was. Impressive, but cannot come up
- 29:49clutch in the crunch time when they really needed it.
- 29:52All. Right, let's move to Nashville
- 29:59where we got LSU and Vanderbilt. And folks, the Fighting Pavias
- 30:05are legit. As #17 Vanderbilt notches a
- 30:09signature win over #10 LSU 31 to 24 and the pre game storylines
- 30:16in this one for me. Can Vanderbilt rebound from
- 30:18their loss against Alabama? I felt like The Commodores
- 30:21played a pretty good football game there.
- 30:23They. Just had two.
- 30:23Crucial turnovers in the red zone cannot allow for that to
- 30:27happen. But for the most part of that
- 30:30game, I thought they held their own for LSU.
- 30:33Does this offense finally arrive?
- 30:35Please give us something. This is too talented of a team
- 30:38to continue to stall. And maybe we got an answer, but
- 30:42it wasn't enough as Diego Pavia was the difference maker in this
- 30:47one. Diego Pavia, whether you like
- 30:50him or you don't, and I know there's a lot of people that
- 30:53don't. But he's a really good player.
- 30:56He's a dog. Last year it was kind of like
- 30:58the. The edgy tik.
- 30:59T.O.K trend like Diego Pavia, he's pretty, you know, he's a
- 31:03college quarterback. You know he's fun because you
- 31:07know he's always in the camera. He says a couple of things and
- 31:10this offseason turning to damn near a celebrity, he was talking
- 31:12all on every podcast possible. Put some podcast equipment in
- 31:16front of him and he's saying the most ludicrous thing ever.
- 31:19And that's what I thought. And now we're in headed into
- 31:22week nine of the season. And Vanderbilt, 6:00 and 1:00.
- 31:26What kind of world do we? Live in Vanderbilt is 6 and one
- 31:31in 2020. Five with a top. 25 win over LSU
- 31:37and this is a good. Team This is a good team and
- 31:41Diego. Pavi is the difference maker.
- 31:43He's backed everything he set up.
- 31:46That Alabama game was close. They very well could have won it
- 31:48if Pavia played a little bit better.
- 31:50But when Pavia is on, this Vanderbilt team is dangerous.
- 31:55He goes 14 of 22 for 160 yards and a touchdown in the air, 17
- 32:00carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
- 32:03And as a team, Vanderbilt notches 21st downs 399 yards of
- 32:07offense and 239 yards on the ground.
- 32:11Couple of the big. Moments in this one and we'll
- 32:12talk about it more in these high pressure situations.
- 32:15But. Pavia and his ability to read
- 32:18the defense and react really quickly is a really, really big
- 32:22trade of his because LSU does have a good defense.
- 32:26Now, Witweeks was not available for this one, and I thought that
- 32:29would be significant. But they still got Harold
- 32:32Perkins, they've still got Weeks's brother, they've got
- 32:36Monsoor Delane, they've got all these really good players.
- 32:39This is still a good LSU defense and Harold Perkins, one of the
- 32:43fastest players in college football and one of the best
- 32:46linebackers in the SEC, couldn't stop Diego Pavia on a lot of
- 32:51these rushes. Like, he was coming in guns a
- 32:53blazing into the backfield and Diego Pavia kind of looked to
- 32:58his left. Have a quick twitch and get out
- 32:59of it couple. Of times he did this.
- 33:02Extending drives and playing smart.
- 33:04Didn't turn the ball over, didn't put Vanderbilt in harm's
- 33:07way. Played his style.
- 33:09And when he gets going, he gets going.
- 33:11He. He get he.
- 33:12Feeds off the crowd. He feels the energy.
- 33:15And he's got swag. And Vanderbilt needs that.
- 33:19Vanderbilt needs that chip on your shoulder, that boost of
- 33:22confidence. This is a Vanderbilt team that
- 33:23is known for, you know, being terrible and and and and and the
- 33:28the main priority at University of Vanderbilt and I guess that.
- 33:31Should be at every. School is is academics.
- 33:33Right. Academics is big, but at
- 33:34Vanderbilt it's like really, really big.
- 33:37But. Pavi has changed that to where
- 33:39like, yeah, we're Vanderbilt. We usually have half the other
- 33:43teams fan base in our stadium, but we don't give a damn.
- 33:46We're still playing our type of football and we're going to wear
- 33:50you down with, you know, a pretty good offense.
- 33:55Like this is a good offense and they were money in high pressure
- 33:59situations. That's my second take away here.
- 34:01Pavia is great and he made some great plays on Saturday and a
- 34:04bunch of them were on 4th down and in high pressure situations.
- 34:08Vanderbilt goes 3 for four in the red zone, 6 for 13 on on 3rd
- 34:12down and two for three on 4th down.
- 34:14And that play I was talking about earlier where Pavia spins
- 34:16out of it. And and is able to pick up 10,
- 34:19you know, 10 something yards is that Harold Perkins rush and
- 34:23Perkins is a hell of a player, but I thought he was kind of
- 34:25going too quick and was getting too deep inside of the pocket to
- 34:29to. Allow for Pavia to to roll out.
- 34:31So Vanderbilt understood the assignment here.
- 34:35They knew that LSU was going to give him a good fight and that
- 34:37this was a good LSU defense. And Clark Lee kind of shares
- 34:41that same sentiment as Diego Pavia.
- 34:44I don't really care. 4th down second quarter, we're going for
- 34:48it. 4th down late in the game could possibly give Vanderbilt
- 34:52the ball back. We're going for it.
- 34:55So that tells me he's got trust in his team, he's got trust in
- 34:58his quarterback, and Diego Pavia is no longer the the fun guy
- 35:03from New Mexico State. He's a really good quarterback
- 35:06and one of the best in the country right now, and that's
- 35:08why I believe he should be in Heisman conversations.
- 35:11He's not as. You know, schematically grounded
- 35:16as like a Fernando Mendoza or Ty Simpson.
- 35:18Like those are more your prototypical quarterbacks.
- 35:21Papia literally is like a Johnny Manziel.
- 35:23Just like a guy. That just makes plays.
- 35:26It's not always pretty, but when it is, when it is, you know, a
- 35:31successful play, it, it is really, really impressive to
- 35:34watch. I thought he was the reason why
- 35:35Vanderbilt won this game and. I think he dictates the ceiling
- 35:40for this team, obviously. I mean, as long as he's able to
- 35:43play at this level, then the Sky's the limit for Vanderbilt.
- 35:46They've got a couple of tough games coming up.
- 35:48They're going to have their shot at Texas on the road.
- 35:51We'll have Kentucky and Auburn at home.
- 35:53We'll have a match up with Tennessee on the road.
- 35:55But I mean, I, I, I give Vanderbilt a lot of credit, man,
- 35:59this is a good football team. And, and Clark Lee's done a hell
- 36:02of a job and that they're talented too.
- 36:04I mean, Alexander running backs, really good back.
- 36:07Eli Stowers is one of the best tight ends in the country.
- 36:09They've got weapons. And it's not just all Pavia, but
- 36:12Pavia makes this team roll. And it's very reminiscent of
- 36:14what Johnny Manziel did at Texas A&M.
- 36:18And I know that's like his idol and they wear the same number,
- 36:21but it, it, it's true. Like Manziel had some really
- 36:25good targets around him, really good players around him.
- 36:27And, and so does Pavia. I think Manziel had better ones,
- 36:29but they both elevate the guys around them by making these type
- 36:34of plays. So Diego Pavia, the difference
- 36:36maker, Commodores money on on pressure situations.
- 36:40Let's talk about LSU because this is now adding to a laundry
- 36:45list of really disappointing teams.
- 36:48And I had Garrett Nussmeyer right up there is my one of my,
- 36:51you know, favorite quarterbacks heading into the season.
- 36:53I don't know what his deal. Is.
- 36:56But he hasn't been consistent over the last month or, you
- 36:59know, month or two. I, I get it, he's got the
- 37:01injury, but at some point the injuries got to, you know, that
- 37:04that that card's got to be put back in the pocket.
- 37:08If you're playing, you're playing like Michael Van
- 37:10Buren's, the backup for this team.
- 37:11He was a starter for Mississippi State last season.
- 37:13If it's that bad for Nuss Meyer and he can't play and can't
- 37:16perform, then start Van Buren. Not that difficult.
- 37:19And I I thought LSU was better. On Saturday, But this is still
- 37:23not the potential the offense should be reaching.
- 37:26They had 325 yards at 6.6 yards of play and Nosmeyer goes 19 of
- 37:3028 for 225 yards and two touchdowns.
- 37:33I thought he had a really nice decision a couple of times.
- 37:36One of them was on a delayed crossing route to trade as
- 37:39Green, who I still think is one of the X factors of this team
- 37:42and if he continues to perform at a high level, this offense
- 37:46could turn things around. I didn't think Nosmeyer played
- 37:49bad Saturday, but I just still expect more from this offense.
- 37:53And you can't get a consistent performance from them.
- 37:55Sometimes you'll get a solid running performance.
- 37:57Other times you'll get, you know, Garrett Nussmeyer not
- 38:00being great. And this one, they just didn't
- 38:02have enough possessions. They they weren't able to take
- 38:04advantage of their opportunities because if you're playing Diego
- 38:08Pavia and Vanderbilt, they're going to put up points.
- 38:10They've done it all season. You have to know you're going to
- 38:12be in a shootout type of game. And instead, LSU had to, you
- 38:17know, settle for for, you know, punts and did not have the same
- 38:20type of 4th down energy as Vanderbilt did.
- 38:25So they settled for punts. And maybe they should have gone
- 38:28for it more. I don't know.
- 38:29But it's just it's underwhelming.
- 38:32Like when you look at the numbers straight up, they, they
- 38:35aren't that, you know, they aren't that bad.
- 38:38But if you watch the game, it's like, OK, one team has a lot
- 38:41more juice here offensively and it's not LSU.
- 38:44Kaden Durham and Harlem Berry combine for seven yards of
- 38:47carry. I thought they were solid.
- 38:50Even though you're not getting a ton of production on the ground
- 38:52from them, I thought they were solid.
- 38:53At least you're getting a combined 7 yards.
- 38:56Durham went for 8.4, Barry goes for five, but that's still, you
- 39:00know, 2 plays and a first down for both of them.
- 39:02Trade as Green goes 5 receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
- 39:06I thought his touchdown was one of the biggest ones for LSU on
- 39:09the day in terms of trying to find an offensive identity and
- 39:12momentum. But obviously was not enough as
- 39:15Vanderbilt just was able to hold on to the football longer,
- 39:18executing bigger possessions, bigger plays, and Diego Pavia
- 39:22was the better quarterback here. I feel for Garrett Nussmeyer
- 39:25because, you know, they show him after the game and he's crying
- 39:28in a towel. Like, I get it.
- 39:29It's it's tough. Like you came back to win a
- 39:31national championship, but you're not playing like it.
- 39:34And neither is this offense like that's been the the story of
- 39:38this team all year. Like you put up 20 points
- 39:40against South Carolina. You put up 20 points against
- 39:42Florida. And seven of them didn't even
- 39:44come from you against Clemson, a team that we now know is not
- 39:48that good of a football team. You put up 17.
- 39:52It's just like this offense is just so underwhelming.
- 39:55It's like a great movie that has all these great trailers come
- 39:58out and then you go in the the theater to see it and it's like
- 40:01that was that was like a sex, you know?
- 40:04Like it's all the hype. Run tomatoes.
- 40:06Oh, there's going. To be good, they're going to be
- 40:08good. And it's like 06, just one that
- 40:13thrilling or acting wasn't that good.
- 40:16That's what LSU is right now. And I've been holding out hope
- 40:20that they can turn things around.
- 40:22But at this point, I think you are what you are remembering.
- 40:24We're seven games in the season. If you're still struggling
- 40:27offensively, still underwhelming offensively, it's probably what
- 40:30you're going to be the rest of the season.
- 40:31And it's mind boggling because I thought they did a really good
- 40:33job on the portal. You keep Aaron Anderson, who was
- 40:37your leading receiver last year. You bring in Barrien Brown and
- 40:40Nick Anderson, 2 veteran receivers trade as Green at tied
- 40:43in at 6-7 is in is ridiculous. A 6-7 tight end.
- 40:49I mean, that's that's a basketball player, that's LeBron
- 40:52James out there playing, playing football.
- 40:54So and not to mention Garrett Nussmeyer was one of the top
- 40:59quarterbacks heading into the season.
- 41:01Kaden Durham, Harlem Berry, Harlem Berry's a five star last
- 41:04year out of recruiting cycle. Kaden Duran's the guy that
- 41:06returns. There's no excuse for this team,
- 41:09but they continue to underwhelm. Brian Kelly, I think is about to
- 41:13officially be on the hot seat here.
- 41:15So those are my takeaways from Vandy and LSU.
- 41:19How about those Commodores? Really, the fighting Pavi is
- 41:22man, they're. Fun.
- 41:26And you know, I get those gave those Instagram tags earlier.
- 41:34Had a a post boom this weekend, Diego, Diego Papia because he
- 41:40was unable to do the press conference following the game
- 41:45that they literally tweeted out he's unable.
- 41:46Pete Naco Savant 3 did. And I was like, well, if he's
- 41:50unable, it probably means he started the party a little too
- 41:53early. So I put that out there and it's
- 41:55got like 2 million views. I'll take it.
- 42:00Everyone's everyone. You know, here's the thing.
- 42:04I know I haven't done a ton of these podcasts and I would love
- 42:06to do them every every week, but I do have a lot going on.
- 42:10And everyone's like, well, what do you do on a Saturday where
- 42:13Tennessee's not playing or like, not a big game here in
- 42:15Knoxville? And I'm like, well, sit on my
- 42:16couch, but that's what I'm doing.
- 42:19I'm just cranking out content, like cranking out fun stuff like
- 42:21that. So it it, it, it's rewarding to
- 42:23have like a stupid post like Diego Pavia got hammered at the
- 42:26game. I do well.
- 42:28So that was fun. But what was not fun was
- 42:34watching Miami crumble offensively.
- 42:37I'm not that I'm a Miami fan, but I guess if you were a Miami
- 42:40fan or like Miami or bet on Miami, you do not have fun
- 42:43watching Carson Beck revert back to the 2024 version of himself.
- 42:48Let's talk about Louisville and Miami, Mario, Cristobal and
- 42:52Carson. Beck.
- 42:53Just couldn't help themselves in this one.
- 42:55They just couldn't help themselves to revert back to all
- 42:59the things that have been talked so down about Miami over the
- 43:02last couple of years under Cristobal and all the things
- 43:05that people weren't so high on about Carson Beck.
- 43:08They just couldn't help themselves.
- 43:09They said we've done a really good job.
- 43:11Let's mess something up real quick.
- 43:13As #2 Miami falls to Louisville 24 to 21 on Friday night.
- 43:18The pregame storylines here. Does Miami continue their
- 43:21dominant run through the 2025 season?
- 43:24I thought they were the best team in the country heading into
- 43:26this weekend. I had the number one and they
- 43:29had proven it. I mean, wins over Notre Dame,
- 43:31South Florida, they absolutely waxed.
- 43:33Florida State in a tough rivalry environment, they've been
- 43:36really, really good. They, you know, beat Florida as
- 43:38well. But that was not the case Friday
- 43:43for Louisville. Do they find a way to make
- 43:45things interesting and that? Was really the storyline.
- 43:47Here it is. I mean, does anyone?
- 43:48Trip up this. Miami team that's been a
- 43:50gauntlet through the season. Like they've played some really
- 43:53big games already and they have impressed in every single one of
- 43:55them. What is Louisville going to do?
- 43:57The Louisville team that, you know, trashed away a game
- 44:00against Virginia at home a couple of weeks ago.
- 44:03That's why I wanted to know part of this game, everyone was like,
- 44:05William, what's your side? I was like Miller Moss.
- 44:10I, I don't want any part of that.
- 44:12But instead, Miller Moss played pretty well.
- 44:15I gave him credit. Let's talk about Carson back
- 44:18because he reverts right back to what he was in 2024.
- 44:22And the decision making was just so questionable Friday.
- 44:27There's 4 interceptions. Obviously that's a horrible
- 44:29number, but the decision making on these throws was really
- 44:32puzzling. Now the first one of the game he
- 44:35throws Malachi Tony, the wide receiver for Miami, one of the
- 44:38best freshman in the country, 510 former three star should be
- 44:41in high school still. He reclassified it this year.
- 44:45He's been. Really, really good.
- 44:46But he's 510 and Carson Beck tries to zip it 40 yards down
- 44:50the field to a 510 receiver and triple coverage.
- 44:54How do you think that ended up? Obviously intercepted, he
- 44:57overthrows the CJ Daniels on the left sideline, that's
- 45:00intercepted. And then in the fourth quarter
- 45:03he's just doing whatever it takes to try and March down the
- 45:06field and get an opportunity. So 4 interceptions was really
- 45:10brutal. He finishes 25 of 35 for 271
- 45:14yards and those 4 Imts. And it marks the fourth time
- 45:18since the start of the 2024 season he's thrown at least
- 45:20three interceptions in a game. He's gone away from all of that
- 45:24this season and that's what I praised him for.
- 45:25He's looked like an NFL level quarterback.
- 45:29He's looked like a guy that understands Shannon Dawson's Air
- 45:32Raid offense. He looks like a guy that should
- 45:34be considered one of the best quarterbacks in college
- 45:36football. He has been all of that this
- 45:39season. Up until Friday when it just
- 45:42like. I don't know.
- 45:43I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Thunderstruck with
- 45:45Kevin Durant and the, you know, high school kid that sucks at
- 45:48basketball and they switched powers.
- 45:50I don't know if Carson Beck shook hands with the older
- 45:52version of himself, but Friday was an abomination.
- 45:56The numbers like 25 to 35 isn't. Bad and it's kind of on par for
- 46:01what he's been this season he's the ACC leader right now and
- 46:03completion percentage at like 73% heading into the game, but
- 46:08continuing to throw into double coverage in harm's way.
- 46:11It was just so I'm, I'm watching the game on, on the Stairmaster.
- 46:16I'm like what? What?
- 46:16What is? What is he?
- 46:17Doing this is This is not the version that Carson Beck has
- 46:21been throughout this season. Why is he doing it now?
- 46:24So. Carson Beck reverting back to
- 46:27what he was in 2024, a big thing in this one.
- 46:29But I also think over the last couple of weeks watching this
- 46:33Miami team, obviously they've had some really big wins and
- 46:35they've been impressive. But I have noticed some cracks
- 46:38here and there. I didn't think it was going to
- 46:40be anything big. But they have a bye week before
- 46:42this one and they've played a ton of games all in in the state
- 46:46of Florida. They haven't had to travel out
- 46:47of the state yet this season. I was just wondering, you know,
- 46:50riding all this momentum coming off a bye, do they respond well
- 46:54or do they kind of LAX into this one?
- 46:56And they laxed into it And those cracks of kind of have an
- 47:01inconsistent run game, an an inconsistent run game earlier in
- 47:04the season and then having an inconsistent pass game at some
- 47:07points. Like it's been in pockets.
- 47:10There hadn't been anything big for a full game.
- 47:12And that's why they're, you know, can.
- 47:13That's why they had continued to be undefeated.
- 47:16But in this one, it felt like everything kind of culminated
- 47:18together, where at times they've been elite at complementary
- 47:23football, offensively, in the passing game, in the running
- 47:25game. But on Friday, they weren't.
- 47:27They only rushed for 63 yards at 2.6 yards a pop.
- 47:31That's not going to. You know, be very successful,
- 47:33kind of eliminated the run game. Early on and enforce Miami have
- 47:37to throw a lot, but Miami has had a ton of success throwing
- 47:40it. It shouldn't be a bad thing.
- 47:42They should be able to be able to work around it.
- 47:44But instead without that complimentary run game,
- 47:46Louisville played a lot of guys back and Carson Beck continued
- 47:49to throw into double coverage resulting in a ton of turnovers.
- 47:52So I think Miami has looked. This good this.
- 47:56Season because they've been able to stay on pace and in rhythm
- 47:59but in this one they fall down early and they haven't been in
- 48:01that type of situation yet and they did not respond well so
- 48:06Carson Beck was not good reverts back to his old self the cracks
- 48:10were exposed and ends up in a loss that's a that's a recipe
- 48:15for a loss at home but I do want to give Louisville credit here
- 48:20because I think one of the best things about Miami is their
- 48:22defense in particular defensive front Hakeem mesedor and Ruben
- 48:26Bain junior are two NFL first round picks right now but they
- 48:30were eliminated in this one because.
- 48:32Louisville got the ball out quick.
- 48:34Miller Moss I'm not a fan of. I, I I.
- 48:37Will not bet on him. I'm not going to I'm I'm not a
- 48:39Miller Moss guy. I don't think he's that good of
- 48:40a quarterback. But Louisville had a good game
- 48:43plan here. They said let's get it out quick
- 48:46and let's do intermediate stuff and we'll see if we can turn
- 48:48them in a chunk place and when you've got a wide receiver like
- 48:50Chris. Bell and a playmaker like Isaac
- 48:53Brown in the backfield. You can find ways to have some
- 48:56success if your offensive line is able to hold up and they did.
- 49:01Hurricanes only sacked Miller Moss just once.
- 49:03That's been a big part of Miami's DNA.
- 49:05That pressure in the backfield and then having these kind of
- 49:08battering ram secondary guys come up and make big time hits.
- 49:12There's still some big time hits in this one, but Miami wasn't
- 49:15able to get the type of pressure they've had in weeks past.
- 49:19So Miller Moss finishes this 123 of 37248 yards, 2 touchdowns.
- 49:24Isaac Brown, one of the best running backs in the country,
- 49:28had 15 carries for 113 yards, then have a costly turnover.
- 49:31Was a little bit banged up, so maybe that was part of it.
- 49:33But big storyline here, at least in terms of Louisville's
- 49:37offense, is Chris Bell. This guy is going to be an NFL
- 49:39player. Led the Cardinals with 9 catches
- 49:41for 136 yards and two touchdowns and as a team.
- 49:45They totaled 367 yards of total offense.
- 49:49They had a really good identity here.
- 49:51We're going to run the ball, but we're going to keep you balanced
- 49:53by having some, you know, quick pass plays to where you can't
- 49:56just bull rush every time. If you bull rush every time,
- 49:59we're going to hit you quick and we're going to pick up some
- 50:01chunk yards after that. So credit Jeff Brahm and company
- 50:04for a really good game plan here.
- 50:06This was not Miami all buttoned up off.
- 50:09Obviously offensively they were bad, but defensively they cannot
- 50:12play the one the way they wanted to with Corey Heatherman as
- 50:16their defensive coordinator, a guy that is predicated on
- 50:19pressure and and kind of being violent in terms of the hits and
- 50:24you know, kind of being that that intimidating group and they
- 50:27are. But when you're able to get it
- 50:29out quick and when you're able to stay on pace like Louisville
- 50:31was, it kind of gets exiled and and axed.
- 50:34So credit for Louisville for that.
- 50:37I also want to give credit to Jeff Brahm.
- 50:39Some cool stats here. No coach has won games in the
- 50:43Atlantic Coast Conference or excuse me, no coach has won more
- 50:47games. I should say there have been
- 50:49people that have won games. No coach has won more games in
- 50:52the ACC since the start of the 2023 season than Louisville's
- 50:56Jeff Bromm in Friday night, possibly the biggest.
- 50:59His Cardinals were 3 1/2 point under.
- 51:01It's going to be 13 1/2 point underdogs.
- 51:04And now Bromm's career record against Associated Press top
- 51:10five ranked teams is four and two.
- 51:13You might be saying William, who's Jeff Bromm?
- 51:15Well, he's coach for Louisville now.
- 51:16We know that. But he was also the coach at
- 51:18Purdue when the Boilermakers knocked off Ohio State in 2018.
- 51:23You might, might remember that one is that was one of the most
- 51:26incredible upsets we've ever seen, at least in the last 10
- 51:29years. Little old Purdue knocking off
- 51:31big dog Ohio State. That was Jeff Brom.
- 51:34And Jeff Brom has had a number of these games where he has been
- 51:37the underdog. He's been up against the top
- 51:39team and he's broken them down. So give credit to Jeff Brom,
- 51:42give credit to this Louisville offense for getting the ball out
- 51:45quick and just a bad night to be really bad for Carson Beck.
- 51:52All right, final big game that we'll cover.
- 51:55Then we'll get into some other notable takeaways, Utah and BYU,
- 52:00the holy war. Some of you might not have
- 52:02caught this one as it was late 8:00 kick on FOX out in Provo.
- 52:09But #15 BYU defeats #23 Utah 24 to 21 in this one.
- 52:15My pregame thoughts. Here was, I think, BYU's Fool's
- 52:19gold once again. I thought they were last year
- 52:22and it took a match. Up like this to prove it as I
- 52:25had Kansas in a late night spot and obviously Kansas was a
- 52:29surging team in the second-half of the season.
- 52:31They weren't as. Good.
- 52:34As they were in the beginning of the season or seem they they
- 52:36were much better than they were in the beginning of the season.
- 52:38But Utah is a team that is coming off a loss a couple of
- 52:42weeks ago to Texas Tech, a good Texas Tech team.
- 52:45So I didn't overreact to it, but I thought Utah would get it done
- 52:49here. They were 3 1/2 point favorites
- 52:50when I got them. They closed at 4 1/2.
- 52:52I thought this was going to be a ute's win.
- 52:55I thought BYU. Was fool's gold.
- 52:57And it hasn't necessarily changed, but I was expecting
- 53:02Utah to get that signature win and bounce back after that home
- 53:06loss to to Texas Tech instead. Like Tennessee, Texas, excuse
- 53:11me, Utah does not take advantage of opportunities.
- 53:15And when you look at the numbers.
- 53:17It is even more mind numbing Utah out game BYU 393 to 228.
- 53:23Utah averaged more yards per play 7 to 4.9.
- 53:27Utah was better on 3rd down 5 out of 10 compared to one out of
- 53:31nine for the Cougars. And you might be saying, well.
- 53:36How the hell did they lose this? Game two things, red zone and
- 53:404th down. Utah goes one for three in the
- 53:43red zone and O for three. On 4th down, that right there is
- 53:48your culprit. They had multiple instances with
- 53:51inside the 15 yard line in the red.
- 53:55Zone to put points up on the board or get in the end zone.
- 53:58And BYU. Credit to their defense, they
- 54:00make stops, but Utah is a good. Football team I love Devin Dam
- 54:05pure but the last two times. He's been in these spots.
- 54:09He's not the same player as he is in some of these other more
- 54:13marginal games. And I get it.
- 54:15BYU is a good team. Texas Tech is a good team, or at
- 54:18least on paper they are in terms of BYUI think Texas Tech is a
- 54:22good team. By the way, we'll talk more
- 54:23about that game here in a minute, but I feel like BYU.
- 54:26Is still a little bit of fool's gold.
- 54:29But Dampier just it. I don't.
- 54:32It's just like. He's not the same quarterback.
- 54:36In the big games like 2 last week hit. 120 yards on the
- 54:39ground and three touchdowns. Wasn't able to really maneuver
- 54:43in in this game. Wasn't able to run around and be
- 54:45that type of player. Utah had a number of
- 54:48opportunities to put. Points on the board and and they
- 54:50just don't execute in the red zone.
- 54:53That's that's what's going to lose you a game in a rivalry
- 54:55match up. So I'm more upset here with
- 54:59Utah, and my bigger take away is that Utah just did not take
- 55:03advantage of opportunities and let this one go.
- 55:05Away. Not taken away from what BYU
- 55:08did. But BYU was knocked off the
- 55:11field 8 times by this Utah defense.
- 55:14They benefited from a couple of turnovers on downs and, and a
- 55:17turnover from Dampier as well. I mean, I, I just, I, I really
- 55:24still don't think BYU is that level of a team, but I have to
- 55:27continue to rank them high because they're undefeated and
- 55:29they get a win over to Utah, a team that I believe was good.
- 55:33I mean, these numbers, folks, this aren't great.
- 55:35Bear Bachmeier goes 9 of 17 for 111 yards and a touchdown.
- 55:38LJ Martin, who I really like at running back for the Cougars, 18
- 55:41carries, 80 yards. That, that, that right there is
- 55:45like a, you know, 13 to 10 win type numbers.
- 55:50Utah lost this game. And if you're Kyle Winningham,
- 55:55I'm, I'm really frustrated because I've had two games now
- 55:59where I've shot myself in the foot and taken myself out of it.
- 56:04Utah, I thought was the the I mean.
- 56:07How gaining by the 100? And 70 yards, they were the
- 56:10better team. And that's the type of stuff
- 56:13that's just frustrating for a team like a Utah or a Tennessee.
- 56:17You know that you are in the right spot.
- 56:19You know that you are in a competitive situation to win
- 56:23this game outright. And instead you lose by, you
- 56:26know, what should have been double digits.
- 56:28Utah scored late and and made this one a three-point decision,
- 56:32but it was, you know, 24 to 2414 with about, you know, a minute
- 56:39left. So I still think BYU has to
- 56:43prove something to me. And I know you might be saying,
- 56:45well, William, they just beat the number 23 team in the
- 56:47country. Is that not enough for you in a
- 56:49rivalry game? I just want to impress.
- 56:51With the way they did it. BYU plays Iowa State this
- 56:55weekend. Talk about two teams that I do
- 56:59not want to bet on. I probably won't bet on that
- 57:02game. Iowa State to like Iowa State
- 57:05was one of those teams I was waiting to fade and I faded them
- 57:07in the right spot when they had Cincinnati and then they turn
- 57:10around and lost that game and lost to Colorado.
- 57:13But it's a pick em this week. I should tell you a lot about
- 57:17BYU, right? I mean, Bachmar goes 111 yards
- 57:21in touchdown for 9:00 and 9:00 and 17.
- 57:23That's not that's not impressive.
- 57:25Dude, I don't. I'm not for BYU.
- 57:29All right, no, no other notable takeaways as we wind things
- 57:33down. Notre Dame runs the damn ball.
- 57:37They took on USC. What a rivalry matchup.
- 57:39This is really underrated, but heading into this one, I talked
- 57:43about it on Fox Sports throughout the week.
- 57:45I really like Notre Dame on the 9 1/2.
- 57:47They ended up covering and winning outright, but there was
- 57:51there was supposed to be some rain in this one.
- 57:54And I, I knew that and I said that this is going to play
- 57:56really well for Notre Dame. And that's exactly what
- 57:58happened. Fighting Irish outrush USC 271
- 58:02to 59. Good golly, that's a lot of
- 58:05rushing. And in a rainy game, let's rely
- 58:10on Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price to make plays.
- 58:12That's what Notre Dame did. Thank gosh they did this and
- 58:16this one. Remember at the beginning of the
- 58:17season when we were sitting here talking about why the hell is CJ
- 58:21Carr throwing it as many times as he did?
- 58:23Give the ball to Love and Price. And they found a better balance.
- 58:26As the season. Has gone on, but Love and Price
- 58:29really, really good. Jeremiah Love goes 22 carries
- 58:32for 197 yards and a touchdown. Jerry and Price has 100 yard
- 58:36kick off return, which really, really turned the momentum of
- 58:40this game on its head. I like both these guys and I
- 58:44like this Notre Dame team. It kind of feels like a little
- 58:46bit of last year and you might be saying, William, what is you
- 58:52know, what do you mean there? Remember last year they lose to
- 58:55Northern Illinois and they kind of go on this big rampage after
- 58:58where they cover every game the rest of the season.
- 59:01They look really, really good and that's kind of what they've
- 59:05been on ever since that second loss of the season of Texas A&M
- 59:07at home. Tex A&M is a good football team,
- 59:09by the way. Really, really good.
- 59:11Top three in the country. But what's the game Notre Dame
- 59:14should win at home? You know, Notre Dame hosting
- 59:17A-Team traveling. That's a game Notre Dame should
- 59:20have won, but they didn't. But they've done a really good
- 59:23job responding since 4/4 interceptions against Maddox,
- 59:26Madison and Boise State a week ago.
- 59:30I I think defensively they've improved.
- 59:31They had two takeaways in this one and also Lincoln Riley on
- 59:35the road. I wasn't really a big fan of
- 59:37I'll pass and I pass in this situation as Jane Maiava, who I
- 59:42think is a solid quarterback. A little bit of a tick down
- 59:45after his performance this weekend.
- 59:46He threw an interception. But Lincoln Riley also got 2
- 59:49cute Malik Lemon, really, really good wide receiver.
- 59:53He's going to be good on Sundays quarterback in high school.
- 59:57And Lincoln Riley does like a double pass play where Lemon's
- 1:00:01like running out to the right and.
- 1:00:04It's raining and he fumbles it and the Notre Dame recovers,
- 1:00:07ends up scoring. This game's over.
- 1:00:08Like, just why? Why a double like a reverse pass
- 1:00:15play with your wide receiver in the rain?
- 1:00:16That I mean, come on now, that that that just doesn't work.
- 1:00:19So credit to Marcus Freeman, still one of my favorite coaches
- 1:00:23in college football. Good win for the Fighting Irish.
- 1:00:26We talked about BYU and teams. I'm not buying.
- 1:00:30Can I interest you in Georgia Tech?
- 1:00:33This one was so frustrating to watch in the 12 O clock window.
- 1:00:37As always on Saturdays I sit here at my place with my 75 inch
- 1:00:42TV. I'm about 5 feet away from it
- 1:00:44and I'll do the quad box. So it's basically like I've got
- 1:00:474 big TV's and I had Duke Georgia Tech on the whole time
- 1:00:51because I had Duke 2 1/2 for 2 units and I thought this was the
- 1:00:55right spot to fade Georgia Tech, a team that barely beat Wake
- 1:00:58Forest two weeks ago before they're by and Duke out gains
- 1:01:03Georgia Tech 441 to 376. And the Blue Devils, like Utah,
- 1:01:09had multiple chances in the red zone to score.
- 1:01:13Instead, we get a fumble that results in a 95 yard scoop and
- 1:01:18score for the Yellow Jackets, a mishandled field goal the next
- 1:01:21possession, and then multiple penalties in the red zone in the
- 1:01:25second-half, leading for them to settle for 3 instead of 7.
- 1:01:30This game was close and Georgia Tech kind of busted it open.
- 1:01:34They ended up winning 2718. It was a lot closer than it
- 1:01:37actually was, as Georgia Tech scored late and kind of rubbed
- 1:01:41it in. But I mean, Duke's a solid.
- 1:01:45Team in the ACCI think Darren Mensa.
- 1:01:47Is a good quarterback and I thought Duke's offense really
- 1:01:49was able to have a ton of success against this Georgia
- 1:01:51Tech defense. I mean, those numbers are
- 1:01:54inflated too. Like Georgia Tech did have some
- 1:01:56drives late in this one that were just because Duke is Duke
- 1:02:00had kind of given up. But 400 and. 41 yards to 376
- 1:02:05Duke out gained this team and lost nearly by double digits.
- 1:02:10That's. A Blue Devils issue, not Georgia
- 1:02:12Tech just being really, really good.
- 1:02:14The problem is I don't know I'm going to fade this team.
- 1:02:16I don't know when they get tripped up because look at their
- 1:02:18schedule and this just might be the team of destiny and like
- 1:02:21last year with Indiana, like at least they had a big time game
- 1:02:24on their schedule like at. Least they had to play Ohio.
- 1:02:26State. Georgia Tech don't have to play
- 1:02:28a damn team until the ACC Championship, so unless they
- 1:02:31trip up and lose. Georgia Tech's going to be in a
- 1:02:35prime position to make the College Football Playoff, and
- 1:02:37that is gross to think about. I do like Haines King.
- 1:02:41I do like players on the same Eric Rivers was a good player at
- 1:02:44the transfer portal, came over from FIU originally at Memphis.
- 1:02:48Talk about a guy that's made a lot of progressions to get to
- 1:02:51this point. I mean, was a walk on defensive
- 1:02:53back at Memphis, transfers to FIU, turns into a wider saver
- 1:02:57and now there's a really, really good football player.
- 1:02:59Like I like players on this Georgia Tech team, but I just
- 1:03:02don't think they're the the level they're getting propped up
- 1:03:06to me right now. Like I still had them like
- 1:03:09outside my top 10 this week. I actually have to pull that up
- 1:03:12because we're about to talk about that.
- 1:03:14I had them outside my top 10. Because I just, I don't believe.
- 1:03:18That this is actually, you know, a top ten team, but you've got
- 1:03:22they people saying, Oh yeah, there's a top, top ten team.
- 1:03:25I just, I mean, what's their resume?
- 1:03:27What's the what? Are their wins Colorado,
- 1:03:31Colorado a close win over Wake Forest?
- 1:03:33Is Duke now a really good win? It's just like.
- 1:03:36It's tough to they they've just benefited from the schedule
- 1:03:39they've been given. I mean, really, no another no
- 1:03:43other way to work around it. I, I don't buy Georgia Tech.
- 1:03:47I thought this weekend against Duke was just Duke fumbling, no
- 1:03:51pun intended, fumbling away multiple opportunities.
- 1:03:54This thing should have been 17-7 at halftime and in favor of the
- 1:03:57Blue Devils. Instead, they F around and find
- 1:04:01out Arizona. State How about the Sun Devils?
- 1:04:06They grab a big time win in the Big 12 over Texas Tech, who I
- 1:04:10believed was one of the best teams in the country.
- 1:04:12Their defense was stout stout heading into this one, allowing
- 1:04:17just 12.6 points per game to power 4 opponents heading into
- 1:04:21Saturday. This Red Raiders defense, but
- 1:04:23Arizona State said here, here's a Jordan Tyson and here's a Sam
- 1:04:29Levitt for you because these guys were all over the place.
- 1:04:32Arizona State goes for 394 yards of total offense, 319 yards in
- 1:04:37the air. Sam Levitt I really liked
- 1:04:40heading into the season, he was a top ten quarterback for me.
- 1:04:43He was out last week and Arizona State takes a a brutal loss, one
- 1:04:49they could not afford. But he's back.
- 1:04:54They get a win. So.
- 1:04:57I still hold out hope for this. Arizona State team, they only
- 1:04:59have one loss in conference play.
- 1:05:01The other loss was the Mississippi State.
- 1:05:02Don't even get me started on that one because they had an
- 1:05:05opportunity to score late in that one and they settle for a
- 1:05:07field goal instead. Whatever, we'll let it be.
- 1:05:10But Sam Levitt goes 28 to 47 for 319 yards and a touchdown.
- 1:05:15Jordan Tyson If you're an NFL fan, start getting familiar with
- 1:05:19that name. Jordan Tyson, 10 receptions for
- 1:05:21105 yards and a touchdown. He was pulling a Greg Jennings
- 1:05:25and, and, and Matting Madden 11 in this one.
- 1:05:27He's playing with like one leg on those final drives.
- 1:05:30He's a stud. And while it might not be the
- 1:05:33most sustainable practice for a quarterback, but like Sam Levitt
- 1:05:36will just literally get in situations where like the
- 1:05:39pressure's coming and he'll just look up and, and look for Jordan
- 1:05:41Tyson somewhere down the field and just chunk it.
- 1:05:43Not the most sustainable method of winning, but Jordan Tyson is
- 1:05:46that good of a player where you can go make those plays.
- 1:05:49So offensively, I just saw Arizona State overwhelmed here.
- 1:05:52They continue to get a momentum. Kenning Gillingham, one of my
- 1:05:54favorite coaches in CFB at home, they needed this one.
- 1:05:58They get it done. But my big thing here, I think
- 1:06:01an underrated part of Arizona State as a team as their
- 1:06:05defense. I thought guys like CJ fight and
- 1:06:10what's can't remember the linebacker's name.
- 1:06:14Oh gosh, OK, you just have to trust me.
- 1:06:18I like their linebacker play as well.
- 1:06:20I really can't remember the name.
- 1:06:22Oh no, it was Avian. Alford's in the secondary.
- 1:06:25Whatever. They do have a good defense and
- 1:06:28I thought they showed up Saturday in a big spot.
- 1:06:30Texas Tech only 109 yards on the ground.
- 1:06:34Last week against Kansas, the Red Raiders ran for 372 yards,
- 1:06:39Totally neutralized the run game.
- 1:06:41Ttu's got a backup quarterback in who is kind of on the same
- 1:06:46level as Baron Morton, but I think Baron Morton is a much
- 1:06:48better passer and much more established.
- 1:06:51I'd much rather have him out there.
- 1:06:52But Texas Tech doesn't play him. They don't feel like they needed
- 1:06:55him. He was an emergency guy, ends up
- 1:06:57coming up to bite him because the run game got neutralized and
- 1:07:01they had no one to get it to a guy like CJ Daniels.
- 1:07:03So credit for Arizona State, get a win.
- 1:07:06That's a big one. They needed it.
- 1:07:07They're still in the Big 12 hunt.
- 1:07:10I still think Texas Tech is a really good football team.
- 1:07:13Defensively. This is a strong group, and
- 1:07:15Jacob Rodriguez is one of, you know, one of the best defensive
- 1:07:18players in the country at linebacker.
- 1:07:20They're going to be fine, but they need Barrymore back in the
- 1:07:23mix. They need to be at full health.
- 1:07:25All right, final take away from this weekend, get Lenoris
- 1:07:29Sellers some help. That's going to be a brief one,
- 1:07:32but Oklahoma defeats South Carolina 26 to 7.
- 1:07:36And I briefly watched this game in that 330 window, actually
- 1:07:40that 12:00 window, because this kicked at 12:45.
- 1:07:44But Lenora Sellers was sacked 6 times in this one, and he's now
- 1:07:47been sacked 25 times this season.
- 1:07:51South Carolina is a disaster. I think the offensive weapons
- 1:07:55are not as good as they should have been, but also the
- 1:08:01offensive lines is terrible. No way around it.
- 1:08:03Lenora Sellers is a generational quarterback for South Carolina.
- 1:08:06They've never had a guy like this or haven't had a guy like
- 1:08:08this in a very, very long time, I feel.
- 1:08:12I mean, I, I, I, you know, I posted it out on Saturday and
- 1:08:15I've got a bunch of South Carolina people in my mentions.
- 1:08:17They're like, I'm a South Carolina fan.
- 1:08:19I wouldn't blame him one bit if he transferred.
- 1:08:22That's a bad sign. Shane Beamer's got to be better
- 1:08:24than that. If you knew your offensive line
- 1:08:27was that bad, like you've got to, there's no way Shane Beamer
- 1:08:31saw this offensive line in the offseason, said, Yep, let's roll
- 1:08:34with this. They're horrible, one of the
- 1:08:37worst offensive lines in the in power for football.
- 1:08:39Nebraska's got 25 sacks as well. And Dylan Rayola, I think some
- 1:08:42of that's on him for Sellers. He should have like damn near 30
- 1:08:47because like 5 of them, almost five of them a game, he's able
- 1:08:51to just score, you know, squeal out and and find yards in front
- 1:08:54of them. So I feel terrible for Lenora
- 1:08:56Sellers. I really had high hopes for him
- 1:08:58heading into the season, but he just can't do anything because
- 1:09:00of how bad that offensive line is.
- 1:09:02So please get Lenora Sellers some help.
- 1:09:06I think it'll be a pretty good transfer portal acquisition for
- 1:09:08some team. Maybe you should have taken that
- 1:09:09$4 million. You know, we talked about that
- 1:09:11this offseason or his dad did that.
- 1:09:13He got offered $4 million. Maybe he should have taken it.
- 1:09:16Maybe they had an offensive line.
- 1:09:19All right, real quick as we wrap things up, let me give my Week 9
- 1:09:22William Patterson poll #25 Illinois re enters.
- 1:09:26It's starting to get tough these early spots because a lot of
- 1:09:31teams are losing and it's tough to compare resumes.
- 1:09:33I could have had Michigan here, but I gave Illinois the
- 1:09:37advantage because Illinois beat USCUSC, beat Michigan.
- 1:09:40I go Illinois here at 25, Houston at 24.
- 1:09:44They get a nice win over Arizona over the weekend.
- 1:09:47One loss on the season to Texas Tech.
- 1:09:49Give the Cougar some credit. 23 Arizona State back in the mix
- 1:09:54for the third time this season that they have entered and re
- 1:09:57entered. We'll see if they stick around
- 1:09:58this time, but Arizona State finds themselves back in the top
- 1:10:0125 #22 Texas. A narrow win over Kentucky.
- 1:10:05Not impressive. Arch Manning continues to be
- 1:10:07more bipolar than, you know, the weather.
- 1:10:11I mean, good gosh, I I credit for the win against an SEC team
- 1:10:18on the road, but March Manning's got to be better #21 Cincinnati.
- 1:10:23Vernon Soresby and company get a win over the weekend 20.
- 1:10:27South Florida. The Bulls defeat Florida
- 1:10:31Atlantic over the weekend, and Alex Golish was cussing out his
- 1:10:34offensive players. When they're up 30 points, that
- 1:10:37shows you a guy that cares #19 LSU.
- 1:10:40They drop after the loss to Vanderbilt.
- 1:10:43Still don't see anything offensively, but the defense is
- 1:10:45still good. 18 Louisville they enter in this.
- 1:10:48Week get a big. Boost after beating what was my
- 1:10:50number one team in college football, here come the cards at
- 1:10:5417. It's Virginia.
- 1:10:55Virginia remains a a threat in the ACC, they have the head to
- 1:10:59head win over Louisville so they get a spot above them at 16.
- 1:11:03It's Tennessee. I think this is a really good
- 1:11:05offense, one of the best in the country, but they continue to
- 1:11:07get in their own way defensively. 15 Missouri.
- 1:11:11It wasn't pretty this weekend but they find a way to beat
- 1:11:13Auburn. Hugh Freeze and company is so
- 1:11:16hard betting on them. They are now on my no bet list
- 1:11:19as I had Auburn +2 this weekend, but Missouri finds a way to win.
- 1:11:23Congrats any of the teams in front of them.
- 1:11:25So that's why they are where they are.
- 1:11:27Texas Tech at 13. I think their defense is still
- 1:11:29good. I'd like to see Baron Morton
- 1:11:31return 12BYU. I know they're undefeated but I
- 1:11:35still don't think they are completely legit.
- 1:11:38I'll have to see more. As the season.
- 1:11:41Goes on number. 11 Notre Dame I think Notre Dame's been playing
- 1:11:44really good football over the last couple of weeks.
- 1:11:46I think they're a better football team than BYU, despite
- 1:11:48the two losses. Assuming #10 The Commodores, the
- 1:11:52fighting Diego Pavia is at #10 this is a damn good football
- 1:11:56team, folks #9 Oklahoma. Their defense was really good
- 1:12:00this weekend. John Metier goes 18 of 26 for
- 1:12:02150 yards and a touchdown. Not the full John Metier effect
- 1:12:07that we. Want, But I think he's getting
- 1:12:09healthier. Good to have a good, you know,
- 1:12:11solid performance under him this weekend.
- 1:12:14At 8:00, it's Ole Miss. The Rebels fall at Georgia Tech.
- 1:12:16We dove into that one. Right before them is number 7
- 1:12:20and it's Georgia and the Bulldogs.
- 1:12:23I'm still not thrilled with their defense, but they're.
- 1:12:25Finding ways to win #6 Miami and, and some people might be
- 1:12:28saying William, they should have dropped behind Ole Miss in
- 1:12:31Georgia, But I still think Miami's resume is one of the
- 1:12:34strongest in the country with wins over Notre Dame and Florida
- 1:12:37and South Florida and Florida State on the road.
- 1:12:40They've looked the part in all those games.
- 1:12:41I know last weekend was a disaster, but this is still a
- 1:12:44really good team with a great body of work. 6 Miami, 5 Oregon.
- 1:12:49Oregon gets a win over Rutgers. Kind of an expected game for
- 1:12:53them. Doing a really cool tribute to
- 1:12:56Grateful Dead this weekend with their jerseys.
- 1:12:58Pretty cool stuff #4 Alabama playing really, really good
- 1:13:02football. It is crazy that.
- 1:13:04Seven weeks ago we were talking about this team losing to
- 1:13:07Florida. State they flipped.
- 1:13:08The flipped the script. Credit to Kaylin De Boer for
- 1:13:10getting this team in line #3 the best team in the SEC, It's Texas
- 1:13:14A&M, the Aggies. Did.
- 1:13:15Give up a lot of points this weekend, but their offense is
- 1:13:19able to help them out. This is a really, really strong
- 1:13:21football team. They're 7 and O for the first
- 1:13:23time since the 1990s. Good start for them.
- 1:13:27Finally #2 it's Indiana. Fernando Mendoza and company
- 1:13:31continue to dazzle Kirks and Nettie makes quick work of
- 1:13:35Michigan State. Even though Michigan State did
- 1:13:38cover late in this one. Significant to some.
- 1:13:41Ohio State #1 the best team in the country.
- 1:13:44They continue to just expose and dispose of the.
- 1:13:49Teams in their way, so. That's my top 25 for this week.
- 1:13:53Rounding out with some final thoughts, we need to give credit
- 1:13:57to Tim Skipper at UCLA. Jerry Neuheisel is a great story
- 1:14:02and I think he's really funny. He's like, you know, looks like
- 1:14:05he's 18. They call him Sunshine.
- 1:14:06He's done a great job calling the plays for this UCLA offense.
- 1:14:10But Tim Skipper is the interim head coach.
- 1:14:12I I can't tell you how many. Conversations I've had with
- 1:14:14people. That believe Jerry Neuheisel is
- 1:14:18the interim coach for this team. He's not.
- 1:14:21He's the offensive coordinator. He's.
- 1:14:22Done a great job and I'm not griping and complaining because
- 1:14:25he's getting the credit. But Tim Skipper deserves the
- 1:14:27credit here or deserves some of it.
- 1:14:30Deserves to be recognized. At least you have UCLA even
- 1:14:33posting out videos of Neuheisel. After the game.
- 1:14:36Like, where the hell is Tim Skipper?
- 1:14:38He's interim head coach of this team.
- 1:14:40Give the guy some credit. So.
- 1:14:43Also credit to UCLA for the win this weekend.
- 1:14:45They'd be a Maryland team that. Two weeks ago I thought could
- 1:14:47have been ranked a tough slide for them back-to-back losses.
- 1:14:52UCLA. Has not lost.
- 1:14:54A game since they beat Penn State.
- 1:14:55Pretty impressive. Nico Imaliaba got banged up,
- 1:14:58seems like he is good to go. They've got a big time match up
- 1:15:01with Indiana coming up. Then, finally, Florida fires
- 1:15:04Billy Napier. Not a surprise.
- 1:15:06This was the talk of the town last week.
- 1:15:09Credit to Florida for sticking to their guns and saying, well,
- 1:15:12you beat Mississippi State, but you're still getting fired.
- 1:15:16I I I think Napier is a good football coach.
- 1:15:19I. Just don't think he's equipped
- 1:15:20to be. The coach of Florida and if I'm
- 1:15:22the Gators, I don't go back the power for assuming the Group of
- 1:15:25Five route again. Go get a big time coach.
- 1:15:28I don't think Lane Kiffin will come, but I don't think James.
- 1:15:31Franklin's A. Bad option.
- 1:15:32I know he was a, you know, not a disaster, but very he had a
- 1:15:36tough end to Penn State and people got very tired of the
- 1:15:39repetitiveness of going 10 and two and being right there but
- 1:15:42not in it. I feel like Florida would take
- 1:15:45that right now. And what's the type of
- 1:15:46recruiting that you can do in Florida and the type of
- 1:15:50resources you have at the University of Florida?
- 1:15:5310 and two with opportunities can get you somewhere.
- 1:15:56So I feel like Florida should hire James Franklin.
- 1:16:00I would not go the Alex Golish. Route.
- 1:16:01I've had a couple of people say that I think Golish is a good
- 1:16:04coach, but Florida just went the Group of Five route with Billy
- 1:16:07Napier. I don't think Golish is ready to
- 1:16:09be. At the University of Florida.
- 1:16:11One of the best jobs in the country.
- 1:16:13I think. Golish will be more fit for a,
- 1:16:15you know, Virginia Tech somewhere intermediate and power
- 1:16:18for football. Let's see that unfold before we
- 1:16:20go and hire a, you know, a guy that is a really good offense
- 1:16:25coordinator, was great at Tennessee, has done a great job
- 1:16:27with USF, but I'm not ready to say he's.
- 1:16:32The guy for a big time job like. That that's going to wrap it up
- 1:16:35for a episode 132 edition of the Padifax.
