Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, we are back on the normal.
- 0:06Speaker 2: So the normal takes for women.
- 0:07Speaker 3: It's here.
- 0:09Speaker 4: I'm Mary Catherine.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm Carol Markowitz. How are you?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Mary Catherine.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I'm doing pretty good. The weather is gorgeous. It's that, uh,
- 0:17Speaker 3: I know you don't do seasons. We're in that like
- 0:21Speaker 3: really brief period where fall is just perfect before it
- 0:25Speaker 3: gets cold. So it's a nice, it's a nice time.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I love that for you.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I would still be cold during that perfect fall.
- 0:32Speaker 1: So, um, I don't know.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm Okay, what's going on? Happy Columbus Day, by the way.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And on Columbus Day, the ICE agents raided Ilan Omar's home.
- 0:52Speaker 1: What in the world is happening there?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so this looks like a ICE slash Homeland Security
- 0:58Speaker 3: investigation that has something to do with immigration documentation. There
- 1:03Speaker 3: have been rumors and some, let's say, documented irregularities in
- 1:10Speaker 3: her immigration and marriage status documents in the past. And
- 1:15Speaker 3: this looks like the next step of investigating that. J.D.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Vance has talked openly in the past about how it
- 1:22Speaker 3: seems pretty clear to him that there's something going on
- 1:24Speaker 3: here and that they would investigate. This, of course, is
- 1:28Speaker 3: another in a string of investigations that fall at the
- 1:31Speaker 3: doorstep of people who the Trump administration does not like,
- 1:35Speaker 3: but that doesn't mean they didn't do bad things.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That's, that's, yeah, that's the reality of the situation is
- 1:41Speaker 2: that there's a lot of people he would go after,
- 1:44Speaker 2: but he's actually only going after certain people. And that
- 1:47Speaker 2: is a big, big major tell about the Elon Omar story.
- 1:51Speaker 3: You're right.
- 1:52Speaker 2: JD Vance has talked about it a few times in
- 1:54Speaker 2: the past, but the, Allegations of that she married her
- 1:57Speaker 2: brother began with the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which is a
- 2:01Speaker 2: very left-leaning outlet. So this isn't like conservatives were trying
- 2:05Speaker 2: to get her and the Minneapolis Star Tribune was in
- 2:09Speaker 2: on it. They.
- 2:10Speaker 1: investigated the story.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And even though they didn't come up with, let's say,
- 2:15Speaker 2: a firm thing that she married her brother, they absolutely
- 2:18Speaker 2: had reporting that they had filed joint tax returns and
- 2:22Speaker 2: things that were very questionable.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Well, and that she was doing joint tax returns with
- 2:29Speaker 3: someone else while with her brother, while still legally married
- 2:34Speaker 3: to another person. And so that would be a problem
- 2:36Speaker 3: for any of us. And it shouldn't not be a
- 2:40Speaker 3: problem for her because she's a congresswoman.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But we don't know for sure that this raid today
- 2:47Speaker 2: is about the married her brother story right is that
- 2:51Speaker 2: where we are.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Yes so this the story the early reporting is that
- 2:55Speaker 3: this has to do with documentation from her childhood that
- 2:58Speaker 3: her father filled out so that's interesting. And I would
- 3:02Speaker 3: say if it if that is all it is, look,
- 3:05Speaker 3: that might just be one part of it. A judge
- 3:08Speaker 3: gave a warrant for this, and that judge apparently is
- 3:10Speaker 3: in the D.C.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Area.
- 3:11Speaker 3: So I would not imagine that it's some right. There's
- 3:14Speaker 3: no right winger. Someone found cause to give this warrant.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I would say if it's that far back, that seems
- 3:22Speaker 3: like a bit of a reach to me. But as
- 3:25Speaker 3: I said, we've seen irregularities from her throughout. And we
- 3:29Speaker 3: should note also that Trump's record in going after those
- 3:35Speaker 3: that he doesn't love. Most successful prosecution was the John
- 3:39Speaker 3: Bolton one, which started in the Biden administration, which absolves
- 3:42Speaker 3: him of the concern that it was revenge. But John
- 3:45Speaker 3: Bolton did a guilty plea. And in June, the rest
- 3:50Speaker 3: of them, James Comey fell apart on one on one occasion,
- 3:54Speaker 3: on another occasion about the 86 47 fell apart as well.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Letitia James, Adam Schiff in process. But those are mortgage
- 4:02Speaker 3: fraud issues, which, again, the rest of us would pay for.
- 4:05Speaker 3: But apparently, yeah, people in power, not such a big deal.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, we'll see what happens with this.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It is very specific, like you said. And the fact
- 4:16Speaker 2: that a judge signed off on a warrant really does
- 4:18Speaker 2: say something.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And again, it's if it's illegal, it's illegal.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It's not like I understand that he's probably taking a
- 4:26Speaker 2: lot of happiness in this. And by he, I mean
- 4:29Speaker 2: Donald Trump. But that doesn't make it wrong and that
- 4:32Speaker 2: doesn't make it improper.
- 4:33Speaker 3: So also she keeps having all sorts of tax issues.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Related issues because suddenly her husband's income at some point disappeared,
- 4:42Speaker 3: didn't it? And like she re-reports things all the time.
- 4:46Speaker 3: There's there's things happening over there. As I said, irregularities.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:51Speaker 3: What those look like to me.
- 4:53Speaker 1: That's right.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Speaking of irregularities, James Tallarico had an extended break from
- 5:00Speaker 2: the campaign trail. His last appearance was on September 30th.
- 5:05Speaker 2: He did a online campaign.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Event with the U.S. Hispanic Business Council and then did not.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Reappear until three days ago, October 9th, completely out of
- 5:16Speaker 2: public view. This has, of course, not been challenged whatsoever
- 5:21Speaker 2: by anybody in the mainstream media.
- 5:23Speaker 1: He says he has the flu.
- 5:24Speaker 2: His campaign says that to the media sources. They report
- 5:29Speaker 2: it with absolutely no scrutiny whatsoever. And of course, they
- 5:33Speaker 2: add Republicans have been pouncing on this.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Now, of course, an outlet called Just the.
- 5:38Speaker 2: News released a story that Tallarico was at a mental
- 5:42Speaker 2: health facility in Ohio. There was some recording of somebody
- 5:48Speaker 2: at the other end of the phone at this mental
- 5:51Speaker 2: health facility, maybe, saying he has been discharged.
- 5:55Speaker 1: He is not here. He has been discharged, which maybe,
- 5:58Speaker 1: maybe not.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Again, this would all be a very questionable thing for
- 6:02Speaker 2: this person. facility to do and for that information to
- 6:07Speaker 2: get out.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But who knows?
- 6:09Speaker 2: And it looks like that story is not true. Tallarico says,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I've never so much as been in Ohio. This is
- 6:16Speaker 2: actually the greatest thing that could have happened to him, right?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Because he spends 10 days out of view and now
- 6:22Speaker 2: returns to a story that looks like it's not correct.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Bad job.
- 6:27Speaker 3: This is one of those situations where I think he
- 6:29Speaker 3: did make himself vulnerable. I think the media was shilling
- 6:33Speaker 3: for him on this nine day absence. I think something
- 6:37Speaker 3: weird happened because it was normal, healthy adult male is
- 6:43Speaker 3: not out of public sight. We're not talking events physically
- 6:47Speaker 3: right out of sight for eight to nine days or
- 6:51Speaker 3: nine ish days. That is odd. That's a flu has
- 6:56Speaker 3: never put me out for eight days. childbirth has not
- 6:59Speaker 3: put me beyond being seen in public for eight to
- 7:01Speaker 3: 10 days. I can cluster enough to get on a
- 7:04Speaker 3: Zoom if needed. Here's the thing. The right and whoever
- 7:08Speaker 3: did this reporting gets way out over their skis on
- 7:12Speaker 3: this idea, which is totally irresponsible and then neutralizes the
- 7:16Speaker 3: issue when you could be asking him serious questions about it.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But I do really dislike being gaslit about the idea
- 7:23Speaker 3: that eight-day flu is totally normal when, and this is important,
- 7:27Speaker 3: James Tallarico, if you are a Democrat, should be working
- 7:31Speaker 3: harder than he has ever worked in his entire life
- 7:35Speaker 3: in October of an election year where he is sort
- 7:38Speaker 3: of like maybe even leading in the state of Texas.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Why aren't y'all mad that he's at home?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah. And the thing is that we can't trust this
- 7:48Speaker 1: at all.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Right. There's something very similar happened with Fetterman where he
- 7:53Speaker 2: disappeared from the campaign trail.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Now a U.S. senator.
- 7:57Speaker 2: John Fetterman. In 2022, he disappeared from the campaign trail.
- 8:02Speaker 2: He did admit to having a stroke, but there was
- 8:04Speaker 2: a lot of questions about how well he was doing
- 8:07Speaker 2: and if he was totally with it. His first interview
- 8:11Speaker 2: after the stroke did not go great, even though everybody
- 8:14Speaker 2: was supposed to pretend that it did. I think John
- 8:17Speaker 2: Fetterman's fantastic now, but let's be real, there was some
- 8:21Speaker 2: definite question marks there that went completely unchallenged by our
- 8:27Speaker 2: Delightful media that just wants to help their guys win.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Well, and as we've said with McConnell, as we've said
- 8:32Speaker 3: with the New Jersey congressman who's a Republican who disappeared
- 8:35Speaker 3: because of depression, you have to play it straight with people,
- 8:39Speaker 3: especially after Biden. You have to tell people what's going
- 8:42Speaker 3: on with you. In many cases, they're going to be like, OK,
- 8:46Speaker 3: we understand. Now, I do think Tallarico, this is what
- 8:49Speaker 3: makes me suspicious of it. Tallarico is in a plausibility game.
- 8:53Speaker 3: He is a guy who looks kind of like, oh,
- 8:55Speaker 3: he's a kid. Like, what does he know? Should he
- 8:57Speaker 3: be a senator? And nonetheless, he's doing well. But I
- 9:02Speaker 3: think if he did have some major weakness of some
- 9:05Speaker 3: kind that put him out for eight days, people will go,
- 9:08Speaker 3: I don't know. Can he take it? Can he take it?
- 9:10Speaker 1: So I think.
- 9:12Speaker 3: They're trying to avoid having that discussion. But if it
- 9:15Speaker 3: indeed was a flu, like, I don't know, you need
- 9:17Speaker 3: to suck it up and get on some Zooms.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I don't believe that for a second.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I just don't believe it. I, you know, maybe it's
- 9:24Speaker 2: not mental health.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Maybe it's something else. I don't know.
- 9:26Speaker 2: But the flu story, apparently he does have a form
- 9:30Speaker 2: of diabetes. Even still, the flu story makes no sense.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You and I have done this show completely sick, wiping
- 9:38Speaker 2: our noses.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Because it's Zoom. We're online. It's fine. You're going to
- 9:43Speaker 1: just power through. If we were running for U.S.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Senate in one of the most contentious races in the country,
- 9:49Speaker 2: we wouldn't get on Zoom. We wouldn't get online and
- 9:53Speaker 2: have events with our supporters. We wouldn't have fundraising events online.
- 9:57Speaker 2: We would.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah. And nine days. is just an eternity, an October
- 10:05Speaker 3: election year time. You should be putting in 16, at
- 10:09Speaker 3: least hour days at that point, just jumping from place
- 10:12Speaker 3: to place. And I understand if you slow down for
- 10:14Speaker 3: a bit, but again, um, It does not seem plausible
- 10:18Speaker 3: to me that nine days would be just a tough flu.
- 10:21Speaker 3: That's a lot, a lot of days. And you should
- 10:23Speaker 3: ask more from him than that. Yeah.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And the fact that the media doesn't, it just, I mean,
- 10:30Speaker 2: it never, it does not end up helping them. I
- 10:32Speaker 2: know they think they're helping. It does not end up
- 10:34Speaker 2: helping them. It's not like the questions are going to
- 10:36Speaker 2: stop now. And I get that there's a lot of
- 10:38Speaker 2: pressure for the questions to stop after this maybe mistaken reporting.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Right. But they won't.
- 10:44Speaker 2: There are a lot of good outlets on the conservative
- 10:46Speaker 2: side who will be pursuing the story and not making
- 10:49Speaker 2: this mistake. And you can't just dismiss them because you
- 10:52Speaker 2: don't like the answers, because he clearly has something suspicious
- 10:56Speaker 2: going on here.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, the formula for the mainstream media generally in tough
- 11:01Speaker 3: campaigns is if a Democrat delays or is out of
- 11:05Speaker 3: sight or a mystery for a longish period of time,
- 11:09Speaker 3: Once they come back, they get full credit for having
- 11:12Speaker 3: done the thing and reappeared. There's no issues with why
- 11:16Speaker 3: it took so long. They just go, ha ha, you Republicans.
- 11:19Speaker 3: There he is. He's at a fair.
- 11:20Speaker 1: He's fine. He's fine.
- 11:24Speaker 3: On the other hand, if you're a Republican and you
- 11:26Speaker 3: disappear or don't do the right thing, you pay for
- 11:28Speaker 3: the intervening time and get no credit for reappearing. That's
- 11:33Speaker 3: how that works on the other side. And I think
- 11:36Speaker 3: they should be treated equally. And then the incentive in
- 11:42Speaker 3: too often on X or with alternative media, and I'll
- 11:45Speaker 3: eat my words if any of this ends up being
- 11:47Speaker 3: accurate by some chance, the tendency is to find something
- 11:51Speaker 3: outlandish that gets you a ton of clicks to speculate
- 11:54Speaker 3: about something that you don't really have the receipts for.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And that turns out to his benefit as well.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:01Speaker 3: And to all of our... Like, it's bad for the
- 12:05Speaker 3: whole environment because... Part of the reason we do normally
- 12:08Speaker 3: is because it's too much for y'all to pay attention
- 12:10Speaker 3: to the package and figure out what's real and what's not.
- 12:12Speaker 3: So we try to do this for you because it's
- 12:14Speaker 3: our actual job. But man, even as your actual job,
- 12:17Speaker 3: it's hard to keep up.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, it's really tough. I think it was David Burge.
- 12:22Speaker 1: He is Iowa Hawk blog on X. He had this
- 12:25Speaker 1: quote that just is perfect.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Journalism is about covering important stories with a pillow until
- 12:30Speaker 2: they stop moving.
- 12:31Speaker 3: That's correct. And again, they bought themselves this kind of
- 12:38Speaker 3: cynicism with Sutterman and Biden, right? I don't believe you
- 12:43Speaker 3: when you tell me, and I don't believe Tallarico when
- 12:45Speaker 3: you tell me just this simple little story that cost
- 12:47Speaker 3: you nine days in October of an election year. Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I mean, we're just not buying it. Sorry.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Like, I get that the story that's out right now
- 12:56Speaker 2: might not end up being true, but that doesn't make
- 12:59Speaker 2: the story that the campaign is telling true.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And we really need to be serious here. And Maybe
- 13:03Speaker 1: get some good reporting on it. I don't know.
- 13:05Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:06Speaker 1: We're going to take a short break and be right
- 13:08Speaker 1: back with more on Normally.
- 13:13Speaker 2: We are back on Normally where Mayor Mamdani, who had
- 13:17Speaker 2: a rough couple of days after daring to sympathize with
- 13:22Speaker 2: any Jews at all on the third anniversary of October 7th,
- 13:26Speaker 2: got torn apart by his own squad who, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: they chanted at him, Mamdani, Mamdani, you can't hide.
- 13:33Speaker 1: We charge you with genocide.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Just showing how meaningful the term genocide has become.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I quite enjoyed that.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But in New York, he finally got to revert to
- 13:44Speaker 2: form because a criminal illegal migrant was shot by ICE
- 13:49Speaker 2: in the Bronx. And it's quite a doozy because this
- 13:53Speaker 2: guy is Nobody that you want to be having in
- 13:57Speaker 2: our country. And yet Mamdani and every other leftist politician
- 14:01Speaker 2: in New York is.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Super psyched to get Oscar Bilgal.
- 14:05Speaker 2: 28, to remain in this country, despite the fact that
- 14:09Speaker 2: he has been terrorizing a Washington Heights apartment building where
- 14:12Speaker 2: he lived and has just been a general problem.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah. One of the reasons that this incident with ICE
- 14:22Speaker 3: officers escalated is because he's known to have fled from
- 14:27Speaker 3: police before. So this is a situation where you're already
- 14:31Speaker 3: in a heightened state. One of the complaints about this
- 14:34Speaker 3: interaction is, of course, that he had a child with
- 14:36Speaker 3: him to which... Homeland Department Homeland Security Secretary Mullen said
- 14:42Speaker 3: in a press conference, like, you know who knew who
- 14:44Speaker 3: he had a kid with him? He did. This guy.
- 14:47Speaker 3: We did not know that. But here I don't think
- 14:50Speaker 3: he asserted that they didn't know that it was still
- 14:52Speaker 3: part of the investigation. He knew he had a child
- 14:55Speaker 3: and he's putting that child in danger. He's the child
- 14:58Speaker 3: is not harmed, but still like a scary situation. And
- 15:00Speaker 3: we don't want to have that. Sure. But yes, he's
- 15:03Speaker 3: fled police before, which sets up a situation where this
- 15:06Speaker 3: is escalating. Again, if you were not in a sanctuary
- 15:09Speaker 3: state or city, this man would have been handed over
- 15:11Speaker 3: through a detainer, probably in a police or jail facility.
- 15:17Speaker 3: There would have been no inclusion of children or anyone
- 15:20Speaker 3: in the public. And that does, whether you, I don't
- 15:23Speaker 3: care if you think sanctuary cities are just dandy, you
- 15:26Speaker 3: have to recognize the downside, which is that these things
- 15:29Speaker 3: become inherently more dangerous for both cops. And the perpetrators.
- 15:34Speaker 1: They just don't care. It's like it makes no difference.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And so this segment is actually our blue areas be
- 15:40Speaker 2: blue airing.
- 15:41Speaker 3: They really do.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Until we think of another name.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But this is just a latest example of they want
- 15:49Speaker 2: this criminal to remain in their city. They're like, no,
- 15:52Speaker 2: we need this guy. We need this criminal who has,
- 15:56Speaker 2: you know, tortured people.
- 15:58Speaker 1: To remain in our city.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And just because he has a kid with him, the
- 16:02Speaker 2: ICE agents were supposed to, what, let him go? So
- 16:04Speaker 2: that every single illegal migrant now starts having a child
- 16:08Speaker 2: with them to protect them against being deported?
- 16:10Speaker 1: I mean, come on.
- 16:12Speaker 3: And Mark Wayne Mullen also made the point, I think deftly,
- 16:16Speaker 3: that just days before, in the weeks before, an off-duty
- 16:20Speaker 3: NYPD officer had been stabbed seven times by two illegal immigrants.
- 16:25Speaker 3: They later apprehended those guys, I think, in Massachusetts. There
- 16:28Speaker 3: was a press conference for him. Right. Nobody cared. He's
- 16:31Speaker 3: not in the hierarchy of intersectionality that gets a press
- 16:36Speaker 3: conference because people are concerned that he was stabbed. And
- 16:40Speaker 3: Mamdani doesn't, is not interested in doing statements on that situation. Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 3: And the idea that a documented, convicted, fleeing cops, abusive
- 16:52Speaker 3: criminal would rank higher than the off-duty NYPD guy who's, who's,
- 16:57Speaker 3: Stabbed seven times is appalling to me.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's just sad, sad state of affairs in my
- 17:04Speaker 2: old beloved city, because I don't feel like this would
- 17:06Speaker 2: have been the case 10 years ago. I don't feel
- 17:09Speaker 2: like this would have been the case 15 years ago.
- 17:10Speaker 2: This is just it is a new insanity that has
- 17:13Speaker 2: gripped the city and it's tough to watch.
- 17:16Speaker 3: And I think also there's room to say, oh, I
- 17:19Speaker 3: want to preserve due process for this person without saying
- 17:22Speaker 3: he is a credit to this great city and we
- 17:26Speaker 3: must have him here forever.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Those are two different things.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Yep.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Yep.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Another story out of a blue area.
- 17:34Speaker 2: A toddler girl is fighting for her life in Providence,
- 17:37Speaker 2: Rhode Island, after being stabbed in the face by a
- 17:40Speaker 2: stranger at a bus stop.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And this is a headline from Daily Mail.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Who cops say was previously ruled unfit to stand trial,
- 17:48Speaker 2: and here's the best part, after stabbing two other children.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So this guy stabs two kids, can't stand trial, is
- 17:57Speaker 2: let back out, and stabs another kid. I mean, what
- 18:00Speaker 2: total number of kids do we need stabbed before this
- 18:03Speaker 2: guy is sent to prison?
- 18:05Speaker 3: The story is horrifying, and I'm praying for this little toddler.
- 18:09Speaker 3: The mom and the toddler clocked him. She was waiting
- 18:12Speaker 3: for her other children at a bus stop. Not more children.
- 18:15Speaker 3: So maybe he knows where they get off the bus.
- 18:18Speaker 3: And she ran away from him and cleared cleared the
- 18:20Speaker 3: area and he followed them to attack them. It's horrifying.
- 18:26Speaker 3: And I don't I don't know what comes next. Like
- 18:28Speaker 3: you can't just let him out. And yet that's what
- 18:32Speaker 3: the plan seems to be in all of these places.
- 18:35Speaker 2: I don't understand how you could be unfit to stand trial,
- 18:38Speaker 2: but somehow fit to walk our streets.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Like how does that work? It can't be both.
- 18:43Speaker 2: If you're unfit to stand trial for stabbing a child
- 18:45Speaker 2: in the face, you're not unfit to be back at
- 18:48Speaker 2: that bus stop.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I mean, you're not fit enough to be back at
- 18:50Speaker 1: that bus stop.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Also, Carol, we noted we noted last week the homecoming
- 18:55Speaker 3: game shooting Friday Night Lights Somali gang. uh, activity, uh,
- 19:01Speaker 3: at a homecoming game between Edina, which I mispronounced last time.
- 19:04Speaker 3: So sorry, Minnesotans and Eden Prairie, which is like a
- 19:07Speaker 3: pretty affluent, uh, mostly Democrat suburban area. Since that time,
- 19:13Speaker 3: we have a development, which is that the man accused
- 19:15Speaker 3: of shooting two people at that game is out after
- 19:18Speaker 3: posting bond. So taking care of that one too.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You know, I'm, I just don't understand.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And the thing is, I've always been against a national divorce.
- 19:28Speaker 2: But how do we live side by side when some
- 19:31Speaker 2: of us want to lock up child face stabbers and
- 19:33Speaker 2: some of us don't? And I don't know how that
- 19:36Speaker 2: is supposed to go. I think we used to agree
- 19:38Speaker 2: on the basics, like, like, you know, anybody who opens
- 19:42Speaker 2: fire at a high school football game stays in prison.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And now we just can't get there.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Also, do you ever think about what you've done in
- 19:49Speaker 3: your life? and all the decisions you made where you
- 19:51Speaker 3: were like, hey, I could get that easy money by fraud,
- 19:54Speaker 3: but I'm pretty sure I'd get in trouble. And it
- 19:56Speaker 3: turns out, yeah, I guess people don't get in trouble
- 19:59Speaker 3: in a lot of places.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Right. They just do it and nothing happens to them.
- 20:03Speaker 2: And it's hard for regular law abiding people to watch
- 20:06Speaker 2: that happen because it feels so galling. Like I, you know,
- 20:10Speaker 2: get up every day and go to my job and
- 20:12Speaker 2: work nine to five and all of that, and somebody
- 20:15Speaker 2: else is stealing money and getting.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Away with it, it's hard for Americans to watch that.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels very much like the whole pitch from
- 20:24Speaker 3: the Obama era was, oh, you work hard, you play
- 20:27Speaker 3: by the rules, but these people have been taking advantage
- 20:30Speaker 3: of you. Yeah. It feels like there was a whole
- 20:32Speaker 3: system put in place in those years to not play
- 20:35Speaker 3: by the rules and make a bunch of money off
- 20:36Speaker 3: of it. And terrorize other people and never be punished.
- 20:40Speaker 3: And the rest of us are like, oh, yeah, I
- 20:41Speaker 3: guess we have to keep doing our part.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And it's like we've gotten to where we can now
- 20:49Speaker 2: spot that when I read like a budget or something
- 20:53Speaker 2: or funding for anything. And they like are funding, you know,
- 20:57Speaker 2: nonprofits or NGOs or whatever.
- 21:00Speaker 1: You just know that's a scamopolis.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Like it is just it is there to enforce the
- 21:06Speaker 2: scam to make sure their friends get paid.
- 21:08Speaker 1: It's really tough. I don't know. I don't know where
- 21:10Speaker 1: we go from here.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I also do think that the alternative media, although as
- 21:14Speaker 3: we have talked about its weaknesses on this program, on
- 21:17Speaker 3: this very program, it is helpful that there is a
- 21:20Speaker 3: force that can say, OK, let's actually find out what
- 21:24Speaker 3: the guy involved in this ICE incident did. Let's contextualize
- 21:28Speaker 3: who this person is. And that happens fairly quickly so
- 21:31Speaker 3: that people can have the full information in a way
- 21:34Speaker 3: that it didn't used to so quickly.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Because this one happened in New York, there's also my
- 21:39Speaker 2: beloved New York Post. They are obviously all over this story,
- 21:43Speaker 2: have all the details, and are just doing a great
- 21:45Speaker 2: job on the news side covering this. And if it
- 21:49Speaker 2: happened somewhere else, I think it would be only conservative
- 21:51Speaker 2: media looking into it.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Another bummer segment.
- 21:56Speaker 3: We're working on it.
- 21:57Speaker 1: We're trying to cheer you guys up. We're trying.
- 21:59Speaker 2: We'll do better on the next one. We're going to
- 22:01Speaker 2: take a short break and be right back with more
- 22:04Speaker 2: on Normally.
- 22:08Speaker 3: All right, we are back on Normally with a slightly
- 22:10Speaker 3: cheerier third segment about comedy. Shane Gillis was on Saturday
- 22:14Speaker 3: Night Live again, the comic who is... Look, he's one
- 22:18Speaker 3: of these guys who's right-coded, but the left.
- 22:21Speaker 1: But he's not.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Of thinking that he's a right-winger, and he's not a right-winger. He's...
- 22:25Speaker 3: If they were smart, they would look at him and go, huh,
- 22:29Speaker 3: he has some real issues with Trump. He's a credible
- 22:31Speaker 3: public figure and speaker on these subjects. He's not particularly political.
- 22:35Speaker 3: He appeals to a bunch of working class dudes across
- 22:39Speaker 3: the entire country who are now drinking Budweiser again. He
- 22:43Speaker 3: took that cross and carried it and rehabbed that brand.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And they would go crazy. He seems cool, except that's
- 22:50Speaker 3: not what they do.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I've seen him in his show in person.
- 22:55Speaker 2: And I believe on the text that you, me and
- 22:58Speaker 2: Bridget Phetasy and Bethany Mandela are on, I said, I
- 23:01Speaker 2: just want you guys to know this.
- 23:03Speaker 1: He is not a conservative. He is lib to moderate.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Like that is where he is. Maybe he's just a.
- 23:10Speaker 2: More apolitical kind of guy, but he is no right winger.
- 23:15Speaker 1: He is no Trumper. Like that is completely off.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I don't think he is. He's he's merely sympathetic to
- 23:21Speaker 3: like he's sort of again, he's coded, right? He looks
- 23:24Speaker 3: like a guy, as he did, who grew up in Philly,
- 23:27Speaker 3: who likes to watch football, who played football, who drinks
- 23:30Speaker 3: Bud Light. Like that's what he is. But let's play
- 23:34Speaker 3: a little bit of Shane Gillis's monologue, which has the
- 23:38Speaker 3: woke folks mad. It's about him going to the gym.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Also, I haven't been to the gym in so long.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I didn't know women just dress like whores now. Look,
- 23:48Speaker 4: I'm sorry. There's no other way to describe.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Have you seen it?
- 23:52Speaker 4: I've seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts?
- 23:55Speaker 4: Those neon, they're like the only, they're like artificial bait colored.
- 24:00Speaker 4: The wrinkles, the wrinkles go like around the cheeks and
- 24:04Speaker 4: all combine at the butthole. And don't look. You're not
- 24:10Speaker 4: allowed to look. For real, don't look because they are filming.
- 24:13Speaker 4: I'm in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.
- 24:16Speaker 4: All right.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Yeah. One of the reasons he's right coded, by the way,
- 24:22Speaker 3: is that he can pull something like artificial bait colored.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And like all of us know what that is. Talking
- 24:29Speaker 3: about the gym shorts. He's being accused of like horrendous
- 24:32Speaker 3: misogyny for this bit. Come on.
- 24:35Speaker 1: You know, like seriously, this is so tame. I don't understand.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I really thought he did something wild when I saw
- 24:43Speaker 2: the headlines.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Came back from the weekend like, oh, what did Shane
- 24:46Speaker 1: Gillis do? That's it? Like, yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 3: You thought you were going to click on something really scandalous.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And it turns out it's just like a normal stand up.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Again, let me tell you at his live show, like
- 24:58Speaker 1: for his last joke.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I wanted to put my fingers in my ears and
- 25:01Speaker 2: not listen to it. I cannot even tell you what
- 25:04Speaker 2: it's about because it's so, so bad.
- 25:08Speaker 1: And I mean, people were rolling and I was just like, no,
- 25:11Speaker 1: make it stop. Yeah.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:14Speaker 3: I mean, look, he is a guy who takes some risks.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I think on SNL, largely, he's quite well behaved. He,
- 25:21Speaker 3: of course, was in the peak woke years supposed to
- 25:24Speaker 3: become a cast member at SNL. And they ditched him
- 25:27Speaker 3: because of old bits and old tweets that they thought
- 25:30Speaker 3: were problematic. They've since had him back several times because
- 25:32Speaker 3: it turns out he's really good and he's quite successful.
- 25:35Speaker 3: And his sort of thumbing the nose at the political
- 25:37Speaker 3: correctness made him more popular and made him this huge
- 25:40Speaker 3: arena comic over the past years. And when he is on,
- 25:44Speaker 3: the skits are good because he does release them from
- 25:48Speaker 3: some of this need to be so precious about everything.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Totally.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 2: He lets them he gives them permission to laugh at everything.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Like whatever you find funny, that's OK. And that's kind
- 26:01Speaker 2: of the Shane Gillis vibe.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's OK to take.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Things to certain boundaries you didn't want them taken to.
- 26:09Speaker 1: But, you know, if it's funny, it's funny. And that's
- 26:11Speaker 1: all that matters.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I will recommend if you guys want to look it up,
- 26:14Speaker 3: the HVAC segment is one such segment that indulges in
- 26:18Speaker 3: some funny stereotypes and probably problematic thoughts. And it's very
- 26:23Speaker 3: funny as a result.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Problematic thoughts. That's what it's all about.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Problematic thoughts.
