- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:28Everybody, good morning. So I am recording this at 4:00
- 0:31AM. I'm in my pantry and I'm sorting
- 0:33through cookbooks. Now you might be saying, why is
- 0:36she doing this at 4:00 AM? Well, here's the thing.
- 0:39The beginning of the year, always, it Fords us so many
- 0:41possibilities. And as I've talked about the
- 0:43possibility list, putting things out there, looking at things in
- 0:46a very different way and not just trying to force yourself to
- 0:50come up with goals, but listening, listing possibilities
- 0:53first is a great way to be able to kind of give yourself a break
- 0:58from feeling like you have to have it just perfect.
- 1:02At least I know I need to do that.
- 1:04And really hunkering down and saying, let me look at this from
- 1:08the, the standpoint of just collecting ideas.
- 1:10Well, one of the things in my possibilities list that I had as
- 1:14an idea was that 2 * a month I was going to cook a full meal
- 1:19and be not just like cooking something that I already know
- 1:23how to cook, which I'm very good at assembling sandwiches and
- 1:25putting things together like that.
- 1:27But I'm talking about really like looking for something that
- 1:31is food oriented, like looking at something that is a meal
- 1:34oriented type of thing and not just a snack or a sandwich.
- 1:38So I decided I was going to go through and find very cool
- 1:44different recipes from all my different cookbooks that I've
- 1:46collected. Now, I know it's weird for
- 1:48someone that doesn't necessarily think of themselves as someone
- 1:51that cooks all the time. I like to bake a lot, but I'm
- 1:56cooking. It's always been a challenge.
- 1:58So one of the things that I have decided I'm going to hunker down
- 2:02into this. This is a big thing for me.
- 2:05Two times a month I'm going to cook something I've never cooked
- 2:08before. So if you've ever seen that
- 2:10movie about Julia Childs, when the girl says OK, I'm going to
- 2:13cook her entire recipe book for the joy of Cooking over the
- 2:17course of a year. I'm not going that deep, but I'm
- 2:20definitely going to try different things.
- 2:23One of my favorite, favorite chefs, I don't even know if he
- 2:28considers himself a chef. It's Christopher Kimball and he
- 2:31does Milk St. and he has a magazine called Milk St.
- 2:35And Milk Street is actually from, it's a it's a location, a
- 2:38physical location. 177 Milk Street is in Boston and I grew
- 2:43up in Massachusetts and this is I've walked Milk St. before and
- 2:48he used to be part of a PBS show.
- 2:53I think they're they actually are still on PBS.
- 2:56And he he was originally part of the Cooks Illustrated group, I
- 3:01believe. And he ended up leaving, going
- 3:04up, breaking out on his own either here or there.
- 3:07He's amazing at testing recipes and getting some really, really
- 3:11great things. If you've never looked at his
- 3:13cookbooks, one of my favorite ones is something that's called
- 3:18cookish. So it's the word cook with ISH
- 3:21on the end. And that recipes in there are
- 3:23simple, clean, easy to use. You know, you don't feel
- 3:27struggling like you've got to have 10,000 things in your
- 3:30kitchen. And if he does call for unique
- 3:34ingredients, you can get them right off their website.
- 3:36So you don't even have to, you know, go around shopping and
- 3:39looking for this stuff. But Needless to say, he
- 3:42definitely has some really great recipes.
- 3:45One of the burgers from that book is a pork burger.
- 3:48Takes really no time to assemble, excuse me, takes no
- 3:52time to assemble. And it's delicious.
- 3:55Everybody who eats it loves it. So I was, you know, and again,
- 4:00cookish is the simple things, the very simple things.
- 4:03But I'm talking, I really wanted to make different stuff.
- 4:06So as I sit here surrounded by the cookbooks, I have to ask
- 4:10myself how? What level do I want to take
- 4:12this to? Am I looking for really
- 4:14complicated things or am I just looking for things that I enjoy?
- 4:18Am I doing this as a challenge or am I doing this as supposed
- 4:23to be fun? And the reason I'm sharing all
- 4:26this with you is because even though I had the possibility of
- 4:28like, oh, I'm going to cook something 2 * a month, you
- 4:32really need to be specific with yourself so that you don't drive
- 4:35yourself crazy with your own goals.
- 4:38I have been there. I have driven myself crazy with
- 4:41my own goals. And part of it is understanding
- 4:45what the true intent of it is. So when I stopped and I paused a
- 4:49few minutes ago and I was like, oh, you know what this is?
- 4:53This is supposed to be about the joy of this.
- 4:56It's not supposed to be about the challenge of having to cook
- 5:00six dishes that go along in this huge meal.
- 5:03And like I'm, I'm catering with Martha Stewart.
- 5:06No, I'm not doing that. This is supposed to be about
- 5:09joy. So as I go through these pages
- 5:12and I try to pick something, I'm picking from the aspect of does
- 5:16this bring me joy? Am I going to enjoy this, right.
- 5:21Is this going to be something that I really feel good about
- 5:24doing in the process, not just about torturing myself?
- 5:28So when you're putting your things together for the for next
- 5:31year, if you're working on your possibilities, your goals,
- 5:33however, whatever you're calling it, Please remember what is the
- 5:37intent behind it? What is the intent behind it?
- 5:40Did it? Did it?
- 5:41Is it there just to, you know, push me?
- 5:44Am I supposed to be growing? Is it really about just
- 5:48happiness? Dig in because that's going to
- 5:51give you the key to the level at which you want to do it.
- 5:54All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:56will see you tomorrow. Bye.
