Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Olie Hilborg from Stockholm, Sweden and I
- 0:03Speaker 1: am the lead singer of Glorious Bank Roberts, fabulous live
- 0:08Speaker 1: act rocking band fantastic.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us to night, Thank you pleasure. Sorry.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Glorious Bank Robberts released their latest album, Intruidau back in
- 0:18Speaker 3: late February.
- 0:19Speaker 2: So that's the early response.
- 0:20Speaker 4: Pain, Well, that's been great.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Actually, we've got so many responses from out all over
- 0:26Speaker 1: the world actually thinking that this is the best album
- 0:32Speaker 1: of the three releases. You know, we have released three
- 0:36Speaker 1: albums in the late in the latest like three four years,
- 0:41Speaker 1: so this is the best, man, this is the best one.
- 0:44Speaker 4: People have been thinking.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, they really like the intruder on the video as
- 0:48Speaker 1: well and so on.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Nice.
- 0:50Speaker 3: So can you tell us the album a little bit
- 0:52Speaker 3: deeper musically and what you were.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Going for with it?
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we we were rocking band and trying
- 0:58Speaker 1: to do a little bit like genuine sound. We're using
- 1:02Speaker 1: no AI of course, we just you know, from the
- 1:05Speaker 1: from the beginning, and we use the Marshall sound and
- 1:09Speaker 1: real drums and so on, and we've been writing for
- 1:13Speaker 1: these songs like quite direrectically after we had released the
- 1:18Speaker 1: latest album called rock and Roll Church. After we released
- 1:21Speaker 1: rock and Roll Church, we just start I immediately immediately
- 1:25Speaker 1: started writing new songs for this album. And we're trying to,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know, do the sound as in line with the
- 1:31Speaker 1: other albums.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So what could you say.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, trying to to keep the rocking attitude and a
- 1:37Speaker 1: gentleman sound, a straight rock and roll and no.
- 1:41Speaker 3: As you say by this album closely follows twenty twenty fours.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Rock and Roll Church in twenty twenty three is back
- 1:47Speaker 3: on the road. So is it more of the same
- 1:50Speaker 3: musically or do you try and change things up a
- 1:52Speaker 3: bit between albums.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I don't know, it's I think more it's the same. Actually,
- 1:57Speaker 1: we try to keep the keep the same sound. You
- 2:00Speaker 1: got this fabulous producer and yeah, Robert Parison, that's done
- 2:06Speaker 1: all the three and I think on these three albums
- 2:09Speaker 1: we've got the greater sound that we have had on
- 2:11Speaker 1: the the you know, the albums before in the eighteenth
- 2:15Speaker 1: and nineteenth and so on. But actually we tround this
- 2:19Speaker 1: a little bit maybe with I don't know if you
- 2:21Speaker 1: heard this, come on, Jane's song is a little bit
- 2:23Speaker 1: more soft song with the orchestration a little bit piano
- 2:28Speaker 1: or you know, we tried to sound a little bit
- 2:31Speaker 1: like kiss in the best song. I think that's that's
- 2:35Speaker 1: the one that we have changed the sound maybe a
- 2:37Speaker 1: little bit, but overall the same attitude as on the
- 2:42Speaker 1: other albums.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So I go back a bit, like you formed the
- 2:46Speaker 3: band with James and Stocking back in nineteen eighty three.
- 2:48Speaker 3: So what is a musical climate like back then they
- 2:51Speaker 3: gave birth to the band and where did you fit
- 2:53Speaker 3: in back then?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Actually, of course there were not that many bands, because
- 2:58Speaker 1: now you know it's one hundred bands in Sweden that
- 3:01Speaker 1: sound like the sleeves rocking, rocking sound. But back then,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I mean it was we we we Actually there were
- 3:08Speaker 1: most of all these kind of bands in Stockholm, and
- 3:11Speaker 1: you could like counted in ten bands in Stockholm those
- 3:16Speaker 1: those days were competing with easy Action here in Sweden,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you know, like Hannah Rocks and Hannah Rox was kind
- 3:23Speaker 1: of starter all these things, and they were inspired on
- 3:27Speaker 1: New Dolls and so on.
- 3:29Speaker 4: But I mean this was quite early.
- 3:31Speaker 1: In the eighties, and you know before that were the seventies,
- 3:34Speaker 1: so then all the bands started.
- 3:36Speaker 4: So we were quite early, I guess on this thing.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And you know, of course is it easy if we
- 3:44Speaker 1: got pad to Australian bands, so of course they were
- 3:46Speaker 1: great inspired and Aerosmith down sex Pistols. I mean we
- 3:51Speaker 1: I mean, we've been at like punk rock, pop area
- 3:55Speaker 1: punk rock with melodies you could you could say, yeah cool,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you said the.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Boar rolling with your self titled debut album in nineteen
- 4:02Speaker 3: eighty four. But it was your second album, Dynamite sixtos
- 4:05Speaker 3: that helped you free take off.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So what was it about that album you think that
- 4:09Speaker 2: that made it so special.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I think it happened to to to go on the
- 4:15Speaker 1: flow with like Guns and Roses and those kind of sleeves.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Band that went up from from the States and so on.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So I don't know, we were a little bit like
- 4:24Speaker 1: Sweden's Guns n' Roses. I mean, we got all these
- 4:27Speaker 1: tattoos and the energy and the attitude and so on.
- 4:30Speaker 4: It just happened to be that way.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I mean, in any way, we like copied Guns and Rolls,
- 4:35Speaker 1: but we just were there from from the from the
- 4:38Speaker 1: eighties and then Guns you know, appeared and you know
- 4:42Speaker 1: made it explode. So we were exposed to quite a
- 4:46Speaker 1: lot on MTV Headbanger's Ball and so on. And we
- 4:49Speaker 1: toured a little bit in the States and you know
- 4:52Speaker 1: those kind of things. So that was what happened. Like
- 4:55Speaker 1: the Sleese wave came in and we were one of
- 4:57Speaker 1: those bands. So it was a cat kind of a
- 5:00Speaker 1: good time in those days.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Well, like I said about like sleeves rock wasn't really
- 5:06Speaker 3: a thing back then, particularly in Sweden.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So what do you consider Glorious.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Banecrob's role in those early days in the sleeves music movement?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Our all?
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think, well that we inspired inspired a lot other
- 5:19Speaker 1: other Swedish and or the bands like like Harco Superstar
- 5:24Speaker 1: and Stars and Helicopters and all those kind of bands.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So we we like took the flag and brought it
- 5:32Speaker 1: in the future with this kind of energic sleeves like
- 5:37Speaker 1: a little bit glammy rock, and the.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Band quickly built a reputation for Your Life show that said,
- 5:44Speaker 3: were they like anything goes on stage back then or
- 5:46Speaker 3: were you more structured with what you did?
- 5:49Speaker 1: We just get got there and go crazy. No, I
- 5:52Speaker 1: mean we got our amplifiers and the drums set, so
- 5:56Speaker 1: we like set up as a rock band.
- 5:59Speaker 4: No.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Actually, we started our career at small pubs and I
- 6:03Speaker 1: remember we played. We played in a in what you
- 6:07Speaker 1: call it swimming pool, swimming house inside swimming pool house,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and they were to create the crazy party, and you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: we were just one of the bands on the floor
- 6:17Speaker 1: quite next into the pool and you know what happened.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We ended up with throwing like bottles of wine in
- 6:24Speaker 1: the pool and dive after and so on. So that
- 6:27Speaker 1: kind of formed our image from those kind of parties
- 6:30Speaker 1: in Stockholm, and then we brought it up on stage,
- 6:34Speaker 1: so we got the audience with us from from the party.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Scene, I think. So that's how we formed, not in a.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Special some like we created an attitude on stage. We
- 6:45Speaker 1: just got from the live, live, live feeling on the
- 6:49Speaker 1: streets and the pubs and brought it up.
- 6:51Speaker 4: To the stage.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I don't know, some some way, some way. We were
- 6:56Speaker 1: not political of those kinds of things. We just like party, party,
- 6:59Speaker 1: party on the stage. Actually it was that way.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool. The band quickly built.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Sorry that the band had your ups and downs over
- 7:07Speaker 3: the years, and he disbanded for a few years after
- 7:10Speaker 3: putting out Your three thousand and seven album but Gloriously
- 7:12Speaker 3: Out of Rock and Roll, which was to.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Be the last for sixteen years.
- 7:15Speaker 3: So at that stage, mate, Like, did you feel like
- 7:17Speaker 3: the Glorious Bank Robins had unfinished business musically?
- 7:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 7:24Speaker 1: We uh, I think we had a newnur there in
- 7:27Speaker 1: two thousand and seven six seven, and we thought then
- 7:31Speaker 1: that no, let's start again and you know take I
- 7:34Speaker 1: mean and deliver and go further. But then our drum
- 7:40Speaker 1: drummer died actually eventually, so he died in like two
- 7:44Speaker 1: thousand and eight or nine or something like that, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: then you know, it was catastrophic for the band, and
- 7:49Speaker 1: we didn't feel that we would go further anymore and
- 7:51Speaker 1: so on, because we did lots of touring then at
- 7:55Speaker 1: two eight, two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine
- 7:57Speaker 1: and so one play with different kind of bands like
- 8:00Speaker 1: Nasaret and so only a little touring. But when the
- 8:03Speaker 1: drummer died, it was like tragically, and you know, we
- 8:07Speaker 1: put the down, band took it, took the band down again.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, when you came back, like sixteen years, it's a
- 8:14Speaker 3: long time in music, like there would have been a
- 8:16Speaker 3: lot of different things happened in that period.
- 8:18Speaker 2: So how did you approach the second fame to the band?
- 8:21Speaker 3: I guess did you just try and pick up where
- 8:22Speaker 3: you left off or did you look back at what's
- 8:25Speaker 3: happened over those years and try and shout.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think it was like this because we inspired bands
- 8:30Speaker 1: in in the in the early nineties and in the
- 8:33Speaker 1: late eighties, and those kind of bands were were inspired,
- 8:36Speaker 1: they grow and it became almost like us. So we thought, no,
- 8:41Speaker 1: we let's let's hit it again and see what we
- 8:44Speaker 1: can do.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I think.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So we were in good line then with the bands
- 8:47Speaker 1: that were upcoming in two thousand and eight to nine,
- 8:50Speaker 1: so we thought, okay, we could we could have a
- 8:53Speaker 1: we could have a Yeah, we could have a part
- 8:55Speaker 1: of this again.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So it wasn't yeah, it wasn't you know.
- 9:00Speaker 1: We were doing different kinds of things and we thought
- 9:03Speaker 1: we like to play rock and roll again, and we
- 9:05Speaker 1: just took off over lead.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah, very nice. Sorry, Well, thanks very much for your time.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Brother Intruder is out now and it's the damn fine
- 9:14Speaker 3: slave of rock and roll Ruther.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You've done well, so congratulations, A long mane continued,
