- 0:00SPEAKER_03: This is actually a very true story.
- 0:01SPEAKER_03: Let me just preface that.
- 0:02SPEAKER_03: I think my game was just slowly like degrading.
- 0:05SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't say slowly, but yeah, you keep going.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I can feel the tension in the room right now.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, how do you how do you want to address this?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Do I not have a choice here?
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Might be a breakup on the card.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: So you cheated on him.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Is that a breakup because you wanted to?
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: It's because you cheated on him.
- 0:25SPEAKER_04: I have never met this man in my life.
- 0:27SPEAKER_04: I swear.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Doc is calling himself 36 and Federate.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Same time.
- 0:33SPEAKER_05: Who are you?
- 0:34SPEAKER_05: The champ on this guy going to 3.6.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: What was your strategy to get 3.6, by the way?
- 0:41SPEAKER_04: Uh play with someone else.
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: Why'd you do that?
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: It's so obvious.
- 0:44SPEAKER_04: You got the notepad out.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: I mean, what do you guys think?
- 0:51SPEAKER_04: You can hold out if you like.
- 0:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, that's what three sixes do.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: But um.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: This is gonna be just titled The Roast of Michael Morel.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: Don't even know what I'm doing.
- 1:07SPEAKER_05: Welcome back to Around the Pod.
- 1:09SPEAKER_05: I am here with Michael Morale, Justin McLeod, Josh Chia, and I'm Aaron Blitz.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: Um, we're here at episode four.
- 1:15SPEAKER_05: We've had a few interviews in the meantime, which has been really funny and exciting.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: I I've had a really good time listening to the ones that Josh and Michael were interviewing.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: And but um, enough about me.
- 1:26SPEAKER_05: Like, what have you guys been up to?
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: Plenty.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: Uh I haven't been playing that much pickleball.
- 1:31SPEAKER_04: Um, for one, we what do we do?
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: We played the PPA, Michael.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: Um, went terribly.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: That was uh that was a good time.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: I happened.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, Michael happened.
- 1:41SPEAKER_04: Um, and we were out very quickly.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: So that was uh I mean it was still a good experience.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: That was a bit of fun.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean we I felt like we started well.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: What we won our first one 15-2.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh, we're on.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: And then we weren't, and then we went.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: Then we were off very quickly.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: We got a text from them, Bledsey.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it said, I hope you blokes are doing way better than us.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: They did come and watch us really early that day.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, big big fans.
- 2:09SPEAKER_05: We'll we were the cheerleaders for the rest of the day there.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: So what what was the win-loss ratio on the day?
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: One win, two losses.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's all we had.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Um I mean we came we came pretty close in the in our third third match.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Don't try and shoot the credit, mate.
- 2:24SPEAKER_04: It was just a it was an appalling appearance that day.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: So what about yourselves, guys?
- 2:29SPEAKER_04: Uh obviously we were we were down at Raya supporting you guys, as you said, very early on.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: Um, it was a long day in the end for us.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: Um but for you guys it would have been a lot longer because you guys were actually playing.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: We were just gazing at the glory that you guys were bounding in.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: Well, the the Sunday was way longer for both of us because Josh and I both played the mix pro and then we played the 4.5 men's doubles, yeah.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and we both just changed it up a little bit.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we'll speak about these two splitting up in a second.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: But uh men's doubles the pro.
- 3:06SPEAKER_05: We made the round of 16 and we lost against Sahil and Dan Fogle, who ended up getting into I think did they win bronze or no they lost in the bronze medal game?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, we were filming a pod, so I have no idea.
- 3:19SPEAKER_05: Well, we we happened to lose that, and then in the backdraw, we both just we were wrecked.
- 3:24SPEAKER_05: We just lost that first backdraw match, but in the mixed doubles, what we met in the fifth, sixth place match of the pro, which was exciting because top eight made some prize money at the end of the day.
- 3:33SPEAKER_05: The final backdraw.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, the final of the backdraw, which was really good.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So Josh and Mejica uh won that, which would yeah, uh obviously got lucky pairing it with Mejica, so an Indian International.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, luckily Nick Mel, thank you for the uh hookup there.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, obviously playing a new playing with a new partner for the first time is really hard to adapt to.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Um sometimes you meet some partners and maybe you might seamlessly adapt, but yeah, just obviously going straight into a pro event was really, really difficult.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Uh I think for us, Michael, I'll I'll let you um use this as an excuse, but yeah, I felt obviously really tired throughout the whole weekend, like filming pods all night, waking up six, five hours later, and you're playing on championship court uh and trying to play.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I think we oh, we played Brian Tran and Kat Westbury, they played phenomenal, and I think Brian Tran didn't miss a ball, to be honest with you.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we started really slow, and I think we were down 13-5 or 12-5 in our first backdraw match and somehow pulled it out.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: And I think we won like 18-16 or 19-17 or something like that, and then just went on a bit of a tear.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So I think we found it together in in a bit of adversity.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: So yeah, really, really awesome to get through that.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and eventually finish up fifth was a really good result.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_05: Well, like obviously, some people like there was some like only a couple of big pairs probably pulled out of the back draw.
- 5:08SPEAKER_05: Like I know for Emily and I, like we worked hard, got some really good wins in the back draw, and it was just Katie and Harry, I think, pulled out in the semifinal the back draw for us to then play you guys.
- 5:17SPEAKER_05: But like we beat Josh Barber, Taya Cross, which Em and I were stoked with.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: Like at the end of the day, like we're not full-time pickleball pros, but we're we're still trying to compete and play, and we do play a lot of events together.
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: And I do really like playing with Emily.
- 5:30SPEAKER_05: She played amazing that day.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: Um, and it was really good in the afternoon.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: I got to play with Chan Chai, who's probably an up-and-coming, really good pro in the 4.5 men's.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: Um, we didn't play you guys in the semi, we played against Connor and Lockie, who ended up winning it, and then we took out the bronze against Carl Stoker, um, which that was some amazing matches.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: And I know you and Nigel made it all the way to the final, which was really exciting.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: And um would have loved to have taken it out, honestly.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think losing a bit of gas near the end, and yeah, we tried to be a bit sneaky and try to get the final to 15 points.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, because the whole format was first to 15, but yeah, Lockie Donnelly shout out to Lockie.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: He he stayed the whole weekend, didn't play pro.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Um Jesperson injured himself.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: He had he had Liam Jesperson pull out on him late.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: So yeah, we we wanted to make sure you had a had a good match.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: So we played the whole uh first 11 and yeah, we kind of fell apart.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: We we were what 10-7 or 10-8 up in the first and choked that one, so that was a bit flattening to have, but yeah, overall, really, really good performance over the weekend, and I've had a bit of a break since then.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Um, I say that I I've played a few like weekend money boards, but I haven't been hitting at all.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Um other than that, yeah, just debuted with the uh the girlfriend in the mixed doubles.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: That was that was good.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Few few tricky matches there.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Successful outing we're here.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we we got the win.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Um one of one.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, one of one.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Wait till they start losing.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: We lot we actually lost the first match.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Oh we were up what were we up?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I think we were up like 7-4, and I just no seven two, and I took the foot off the pedal, and just all momentum was lost.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I got iced out to be honest, and um yeah, we lost that match, and I was like, shit, my duper's gonna drop like one whole decimal point.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: What a problem! Oh my god, duper.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: I love my duper, and then yeah, you're talking about Ben Du Brazil, or is that uh your duper score?
- 7:39SPEAKER_04: I'm a fan of that guy, yeah.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: You can't not be a fan of that guy.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: That's do I not have a choice here?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: I I like Ben Du Brazil, um, yeah, but then obviously we were down, I think eight seven in the next matching against Nick Ashton Smith, and I can't remember his partner's name.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, but yeah, we we somehow pulled out the win, and then like with Mehika, we kind of just found the rhythm.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Um started getting a bit of a roll on, and then yeah, nothing stopping them.
- 8:10SPEAKER_04: Oh that's cover some rolls right there.
- 8:13SPEAKER_04: It was a happy drive home, luckily.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: It was a happy drive home, yeah.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: She got her ice cream money, which was good.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Um funds the next six weeks of ice cream.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Jen.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, shout out Jen, legend.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and then we played over the weekend.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Ding series.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Uh Dink and Drive.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Dink and Drive.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: It's the second time I've ever been there hitting, and yeah, the courts were great.
- 8:33SPEAKER_05: It was good to a good vibe, too.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was awesome, great vibe.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Um, James Thurston does a really well good job with the Dink series and uh a lot of numbers, which was really good to see.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: And I love those community events.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: The I mean, I'm obviously there, hopefully making some money, Aaron.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: But uh the community events are great too.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, like it was it was a good level throughout the day, and obviously the final was tough.
- 8:57SPEAKER_05: Um it was worth the duper drop, that was for sure.
- 9:00SPEAKER_05: That day.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Did we drop duper?
- 9:02SPEAKER_05: Oh, I don't know, it hasn't been put in yet, but whenever I play these events, somehow we win it or we come second and the duper still goes down.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Uh that's the nature of Australia, duper, I reckon.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: We had some big wins all the way up until obviously, and then the final was nice and close, like Lucas and Vina.
- 9:17SPEAKER_05: Very good players.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: And Vina, he always plays Unreal when he plays against us, doesn't he?
- 9:21SPEAKER_05: And then Lucas is up and coming too.
- 9:23SPEAKER_05: Like it used to be a pro tennis player, really solid now.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: So look to see him in the space quite a bit.
- 9:28SPEAKER_05: But yeah, we took it out.
- 9:29SPEAKER_05: What 500 bucks, so 250 each.
- 9:31SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 9:32SPEAKER_05: I prefer the cash, you prefer the money in the account.
- 9:34SPEAKER_05: So I just transferred you the two.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I'm a numbers guy, you know.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Already bonus.
- 9:39SPEAKER_05: I just use the cash to pay for fuel, and it feels free.
- 9:42SPEAKER_05: So that's why I love the cash.
- 9:44SPEAKER_05: But that boy math.
- 9:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 9:45SPEAKER_05: Free fuel.
- 9:47SPEAKER_05: Pickle math, pickle math.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: Doesn't go very far these days, though.
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: Four cheers over there just giving the old nah.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: No cash here, mate.
- 9:53SPEAKER_05: No cash, no cash.
- 9:54SPEAKER_05: Giving no cash.
- 9:56SPEAKER_05: No cash.
- 9:56SPEAKER_05: So yeah, we took out the men's doubles, which was uh really good because that's me.
- 10:00SPEAKER_05: We what came second at the last event that we played in, and I came second with Stefan at the other dink series event.
- 10:07SPEAKER_05: So it was good to win this one.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: We were we were pretty close to losing too.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I missed a return at 12-11 or 12-10.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: We're making a comeback, and then 13-11.
- 10:18SPEAKER_05: We're gonna be honest, Aaron.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: I uh I actually thought we were done.
- 10:21SPEAKER_05: I thought we lost it.
- 10:23SPEAKER_05: Never gave up.
- 10:24SPEAKER_05: Um, but look, and then we played the mixed doubles the next day, too, and it was really good.
- 10:27SPEAKER_05: That probably had more depth in the field, too.
- 10:29SPEAKER_05: Like we were playing with Arya, who's in a Melbourne Thunder now, which we'll do another episode about the MLP draft.
- 10:35SPEAKER_05: But I got to play with Aisha Dang, who's an NPL captain, and it was good just to play.
- 10:39SPEAKER_05: It was first time me playing an event with her.
- 10:41SPEAKER_05: Um, obviously, she'll normally play with Sahil at pro events and stuff.
- 10:44SPEAKER_05: So I think it was just a good opportunity for me to play with another really good player.
- 10:48SPEAKER_05: Um, Emily couldn't play that event.
- 10:49SPEAKER_05: And we came second to B and um Sahil.
- 10:52SPEAKER_05: We lost 15-12.
- 10:54SPEAKER_05: We were 10-2 down in the final, figured out a way to get back, but they were just a little bit too good at the end.
- 10:58SPEAKER_05: And we played you guys in the semi, and that was close to the end too.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: You guys took out the yeah, we got the bronze.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: We got the bronze, yeah.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Um quite tight in the end against uh Lucas and Gabby, but yeah, Aria and I played pretty well together.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Obviously, again, first time playing with each other, but yeah, for those who haven't heard of Ari Hanari, just follow her story.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: She's um a massive up-and-comer, especially 16 years old, just um, yeah, she's a potential.
- 11:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, shall we be playing next to Zach Rabovich?
- 11:30SPEAKER_05: So they'll be massive for her.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: And uh Wow, this is a big take from the Melbourne Thunder GM now.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think that's common knowledge yet, but yeah, it will be.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: She's a left side girl.
- 11:40SPEAKER_05: Um, every team you can know that now.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I am a fan of left side B, by the way.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: She knows that.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Left side B Horsley, by the way.
- 11:49SPEAKER_05: But uh B, I think for the women's double, she wants to play more the right and everything, too.
- 11:53SPEAKER_05: But we'll have those conversations.
- 11:54SPEAKER_05: But uh, enough about our journeys.
- 11:56SPEAKER_05: There's been some social media videos coming out about someone hitting 3.6 duper and someone still at 3.3, and there might be a breakup on the card, and it's not Josh and Jen, it's Michael and Justin.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Hey, let's not let's not put that out in the universe based on it.
- 12:12SPEAKER_04: So, what's going on, boys?
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's uh Netflix have been um courting us for quite some time now.
- 12:18SPEAKER_04: Just they they want to know the insights.
- 12:19SPEAKER_04: Um it's like drive to survive, but um, yeah, we we've tried to keep it tight-lipped, and you know, we wanted a pretty you know, mutual breakup.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: But uh, you know, when you're soaring to the heights of 3.6, I don't know if you guys know what it's like, but um it feels pretty it feels pretty good up here.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna lie.
- 12:36SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, you sometimes you you just gotta get to that fork in the road and you've and you've just gotta branch off, you know what I mean.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: I remember that what second week into pickleball.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Uh second year.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Second year, second second week.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Sorry, second, yeah, second year.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: You were given that whole vibe of the um what's that movie where it came from uh is it like fastening the fury?
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: Staring and the black beaches boys.
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: Have you seen that reel?
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: Yes, we could definitely do a reel for that one.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Oh god.
- 13:13SPEAKER_04: But yeah, no, that's um that's been interesting.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: Um so is it true like you guys have actually split up?
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: I'll let you totally know this one.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, how do you how do you want to address this?
- 13:30SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, we we do we do uh play lead together every Monday night down at Easton.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: So I mean we're playing a comp together this weekend.
- 13:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, down in Theralgan.
- 13:39SPEAKER_04: So look, we'll see how these, you know, next next week or so pans out.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: Um if if you win the Gippsland Championships, which is this weekend, are you staying together?
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Depends on if I can make his uh duper tank a bit getting back down to 3.6.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: So his ego isn't so big he can't get through doors.
- 14:03SPEAKER_05: Is it is it a 3.5 plus division?
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: So can it is what originally it was 3.5 to 399.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: Uh they didn't have enough entrance, so we'll we're almost guaranteed a medal.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: There's only four people, four four teams entered.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: So we're thinking, you know, chances are pretty good of getting a medal here.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: And uh now they've amalgamated a couple of divisions, so chances are a lot less.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: So I mean, yeah, but you're a 3.6, so like you're under the.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: So obviously, I should just mop the floor.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: And apparently now, from a duper perspective, you've got dead weight on the court with you.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: So hey, you said it.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: You said that, not me.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: Your duper's going up, yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: So we'll we'll see.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'll come up against some people we're we're familiar with.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think we'll have a competitive hit.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, we'll go.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: The transition, I think, to tarwood floors is gonna be take a bit of adapting.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Ah, we'll be right.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: It's um, you know, I think the couples counselling is gonna do us a world of good.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: Um, that that should be great, I hope.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: I'm paying through the nose for this shit.
- 15:06SPEAKER_05: They need some of this prize money to come.
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, we'll see, yeah, we'll see.
- 15:11SPEAKER_04: We'll see how we go.
- 15:12SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be um it's gonna be fun.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: I'm looking forward getting down to uh the Gippsland in Turalgan.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: That's gonna be good.
- 15:18SPEAKER_05: I think it's close to like 300 players playing it, which is really cool.
- 15:22SPEAKER_05: It's part of the Victorian Rally series.
- 15:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's uh it's great.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: It's a it's a fairly new facility.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Like I know it's I know it's on Harbor courts, but it's it's actually really I don't know, it's really good down there.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, when I was living in Warrigal, I was traveling down some of the morning hits on a Wednesday, and that actually put like a really good standard down there as well.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: Um, and quite a few people would travel quite a distance to go to it.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: Um, so no, it's an awesome, awesome facility.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: And last year when we played there, we had a great time.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um and this time we'll probably try and uh take some microphones down, get a bit of content done while we're down there.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: So if they don't win, you might not see these two in the same camera frame ever again.
- 15:59SPEAKER_05: So let's see what happens in that space.
- 16:02SPEAKER_05: Um speaking of tournaments, like I guess the biggest thing I know you guys have been asking us too.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: Like, how many times are you are you supposed to be hitting before a tournament or just in general, like to play at your highest level?
- 16:13SPEAKER_05: Like that 3-6, that is very high.
- 16:16SPEAKER_05: We're preaching on advanced.
- 16:18SPEAKER_05: Don't late his ego anymore.
- 16:21SPEAKER_05: We're heading towards the widest ever seen from you, by the way, man.
- 16:25SPEAKER_05: So good.
- 16:26SPEAKER_05: The chirp on this guy now is a three-point series.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: It's crazy.
- 16:30SPEAKER_05: He got chirping Liam Lamb the other night.
- 16:34SPEAKER_04: Justified.
- 16:36SPEAKER_04: Would beat him left-handed.
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: Just for those who don't know, I'm right-handed.
- 16:41SPEAKER_04: Thanks for the invitation.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah.
- 16:48SPEAKER_04: Look, my neck has actually been getting tore because it's I've been going with a wobble lately.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: It's just it's getting through doorways has been quite a quite a street.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: That's how you get to 3.6 first.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, if you want some lessons, yeah, bring the notepad down to Easton on a Monday night.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: What was your strategy to get 3.6, by the way?
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Uh play with someone else.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: I'm not even doing it, actually.
- 17:11SPEAKER_05: That's actually been since he's not playing with my dog.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: But the whole time we've been playing together until what, about three weeks ago, I've always had the higher duper.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: And then all of a sudden he's like, oh, look.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: So you cheated on him.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Is that a break because you wanted to?
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: It's because you cheated on him.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: I I'd like this is where I was going with the I I thought it was gonna just be like a mutual, you know, decision.
- 17:38SPEAKER_04: Um but okay, fine.
- 17:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, you're right.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Wait, hold on.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Did you know that those results were going into duper?
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, I was playing a tournament.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: So why'd you do that?
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: It's so obvious.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so so we we played we played a tournament at Easton and we played the 3-5 and below.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: At that stage, Michael was higher than me.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: And then I also entered another, what was it, the 3-5 to 399 with our teammate Tyson?
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: And all of a sudden it just started going up.
- 18:07SPEAKER_04: And then I played the mix when you cleaned up in the mixed.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think you could have helped him with that one playing with him in the mix.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: I've seen him in a wig.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Uh oh.
- 18:17SPEAKER_05: You never know.
- 18:20SPEAKER_05: Well, let's do it quickly then.
- 18:22SPEAKER_05: How many times a week are we all hitting?
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: Um, and then maybe after we've done that, we can kind of go through like maybe like for Josh tonight to be different, and even for me, like I'm not hitting as much as a traditional pro at the moment.
- 18:33SPEAKER_05: But for you guys, how how much are you hitting at a 3.3 level, Michael?
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: At the moment, honestly, like terrible on the two I'm playing league um down at Eastern Endor Monday midnight.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: And that's the extent of it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Like we used to play a Thursday, um a Thursday advanced um social hit that's not running now, I think.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: So I haven't been doing that and haven't had any sort of makeup for it.
- 18:56SPEAKER_05: So it's just mainly just like social hits or the league, not like drilling sessions or nothing.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: No, no, like yeah, lit literally just the league.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: So I'm having a competitive hit every week, but no social, no drilling, nothing.
- 19:10SPEAKER_05: So we're going up that.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: That's why it's a 3.3 and not a 3.6.
- 19:14SPEAKER_05: And that's what I'm saying.
- 19:15SPEAKER_05: Like we're going up to the lowest duper right now.
- 19:18SPEAKER_05: We're gonna go from lower stupid to low.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: All right, so well, I've got the excuse of having two beautiful children and no excuse.
- 19:29SPEAKER_04: No excuse.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: 3.6.
- 19:30SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 19:31SPEAKER_04: 3.6.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Um I think you've been carried by your partners, but 100%.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: And I'm taking it.
- 19:41SPEAKER_04: Uh I've been riding those coattails for a while now.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, yeah, I'm I'm very lucky to play once, maybe twice a week, every now and again.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: But the the once a week is like a must.
- 19:52SPEAKER_04: That's that's more so for just my mental health and my, I don't know, just social sort of outlet away from everything that life throws at you.
- 20:00SPEAKER_04: So at least one night a week for me.
- 20:02SPEAKER_04: Um, I'd like to start playing a bit more or start at least drilling a bit more because I feel like that's pretty important.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: I think just playing socially is not enough.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: So what about no?
- 20:11SPEAKER_04: I don't know what I don't know the duper levels here.
- 20:14SPEAKER_04: So uh who are we who are we throwing to next year?
- 20:16SPEAKER_05: I think I think Josh.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: Oh wow.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: Wow, hot.
- 20:20SPEAKER_04: Did you did you see the wink?
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: I think it's Josh.
- 20:23SPEAKER_04: That's that's a hot take.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: He knows it's Josh.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: Is that just until the results were uploaded?
- 20:27SPEAKER_05: Well, we played together, so that is a hot take.
- 20:32SPEAKER_05: Um surely yours is oh, it's about five.
- 20:36SPEAKER_05: Like you are over a five player anyway, but the dupe is in Australia for us pros that are a little bit less than what they are.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, that's all right.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll take that to my grave.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I'm probably ideally hitting four to five times a week, but yeah, recently probably two to four or five, depending on the week.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I think obviously not really having many comps and whatever going on.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, other stuff takes priority.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I think there's an argument for obviously more hits a week helps out, but I actually think it's more important how you're hitting, like what you're actually doing.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say when you said more hits, is it is it social play?
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: Is it drilling?
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Is it just having a few games?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: What's what's your I think it's a fusion, a fusion of like maybe an hour drill, an hour match play.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: That's probably a good one, or maybe a 30-minute drill, hour and a bit of hitting, like match play.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I think going into hits, knowing what you want to work on and being able to like structure, hey, uh this is what I actually want to do.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Because I think some people just go in there, they kind of swing and they go, Oh, let's fix that as I go.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: And they don't really know what they're doing.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So you got the notepad out?
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Sorry, sorry.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Hopefully that translates well to the audio version of the focus.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Such an asshole.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: This is why we're splitting it.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: We've just been feeding into this.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: I can feel the tension in the room right now.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: I can feel the tension deep down in my plums.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: No, I think like obviously, if you are trying to grow in your game and you kind of are watching how other people hit, or you might have watched like a tutorial on how to do something, probably like fixating on that for that one session.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Because if you're gonna go, oh, I'm gonna do five minutes of dinking, five minutes of drops, five minutes of drives, like you're not really gaining much out of that.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: You probably need like 30 minutes of it and repetitions, that's why it's called reps, news flash.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: This guy, yeah, learning intelligent, intelligence.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Um learning.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just think yeah, maybe two sessions of that is really important, and then you might just play a few more matches just to get that match practice in.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I don't know.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: In the pro-level space, I yeah, I feel like burnout could be a thing if you go too hard as well.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: So just being able to tailor either way, yeah.
- 24:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I guess the biggest thing for me, um, that's me, I've been in the pro space for a while now, and especially the last two years of taking it pretty relatively seriously outside of full-time work.
- 24:39SPEAKER_05: Like we're different because we still work full-time, we're both full-time teachers.
- 24:42SPEAKER_05: We're trying to juggle that a podcast, you're doing content creation stuff too, and and I'll we've both got partners, and I've got to keep Allie happy.
- 24:50SPEAKER_05: And then but I don't have to keep Allie happy.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: You worry about Jen.
- 25:01SPEAKER_05: He's already got it a goal, man.
- 25:03SPEAKER_05: He's good.
- 25:04SPEAKER_05: I'm not winning any medals with Allie anytime soon.
- 25:07SPEAKER_05: Um, but I guess to me, like previously, it's like you're trying to you're drilling like two, three times a week.
- 25:12SPEAKER_05: Like I know last year or earlier this year specifically, Josh and I would go and we'd drill for an hour or two hours.
- 25:19SPEAKER_05: And then maybe another night we'd have our organized hit with some of the other pros in Victoria.
- 25:24SPEAKER_05: I know for me, like Broden Cox and Emily Martin, I drill with a lot at Frank's things.
- 25:28SPEAKER_05: I love being outdoors close to me in work and where I live, and it's harder to get some other people down there.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: But like with Emily, I'll just text her on the day, but like, can we drill this afternoon?
- 25:37SPEAKER_05: And we'll go, I'll be there at like 3:30.
- 25:39SPEAKER_05: We drill for like an hour, hour and a half, but it's like structured.
- 25:43SPEAKER_05: Like we normally try and do like a dink-off thing, and I just want to work on my dinking before a tournament.
- 25:47SPEAKER_05: And once I've done that session, I feel comfortable the rest of the week.
- 25:50SPEAKER_05: Then we're like, oh, let's do resets, let's do drops, let's do returns, let's do um 7-Eleven, a bunch of games.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: Um, make it competitive too.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: Because I think that's the hardest part.
- 26:00SPEAKER_05: Like drilling, um, you've got to have your mind in the game, but also you've got to kind of make it challenging and fun for yourself.
- 26:07SPEAKER_05: Like I know I like to try and like we've done it too, like the dink-off game where we do rally scoring to five in dinking positions, and you can only dink, you can't put away a ball.
- 26:15SPEAKER_05: And it's like you just got to grind the ball out because I know in MLP the ball slows down a lot.
- 26:20SPEAKER_05: Like we're it's rally scoring, it's a lot more dinking, and high-level pickleball is a lot more dinking because everyone's got quick hands and can figure it out.
- 26:28SPEAKER_05: Um, so a lot of practice on that front.
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: Like right now, like after the PPA event, I probably hit like once or twice before the dink series event because you just want a bit of a breather.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: But I think majority of top pros, the ones that are actually winning the pro gold medals that I'm not winning and Josh isn't winning right now.
- 26:44SPEAKER_05: But like Joey Wilde, the George Walls, and Mitch Hargraves, you got Lucas, Pasco, you got Harry Brown, Katie Hart, all those ones winning medals, they're training like three or four hours a day, plus Jim, and they're dinking, hitting drops, drives, playing match play every single day.
- 27:00SPEAKER_05: And I think that is the difference right now.
- 27:02SPEAKER_05: Like it's not four years ago where I could play play twice a week with a carbon fiber paddle and and win gold.
- 27:09SPEAKER_05: It is everyone is trying to elevate their game, and it's why it's way more professional, the sport right now.
- 27:15SPEAKER_05: So, if any advice to anyone that wants to get up to the 5-0 level or 3-6, which is uh impressive, um, we're gonna think you need to be dog.
- 27:25SPEAKER_05: We need to at least drill, which is what these blokes aren't doing.
- 27:28SPEAKER_05: But once they do, like 4.0, that's mean I would love to see Michael get to 4.0 before just a challenge right now.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: That is a challenge.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: But I mean, like if we if we actually think about whenever we've played and when we've actually been doing like drilling and like extra sessions per week, um, you know, that's when we have actually had some of our best runs in comps.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: And I think even you know, if we just think about the the drilling component, when we won the one at state and we just had that break between I think it was the end of the pool rounds and the finals, and we just spent some time doing some actual like focus drilling, not like screwing about and actually really focusing on the drilling, that actually translated really well as soon as we went in.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: But okay, when we're doing this, it's helping, but we're just we're never doing it.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: I can't remember what tournament we played, but we actually did a clinic with you and JT.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: That was Turalgan.
- 28:19SPEAKER_04: That was Turalgan, yeah.
- 28:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so that even just something as little as that, not to blow smoke up your own horny, but it's shout out to JT.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: But no, we we did a we did a clinic with you guys, and that was even just like the little things you can take from that, just one little clinic for a couple of hours.
- 28:37SPEAKER_04: It changed our game a few more.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: Well, I remember because we were playing, I mean, just to put in perspective how far ago that was, we were playing 299 and under up to that point, and that was the first time we were playing 30 to 349.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: We were like, oh, no expectations going into this one because this is a big jump.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: It was a big jump.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: It felt it honestly felt like a big jump.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, you are a 3-6 now.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: It is a massive jump.
- 28:58SPEAKER_04: That is below me now.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, we we went into that and we won all of our pull rounds um pretty convincingly.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we did, and the only reason why we didn't end up meddling was because I cramped in that that semi-final.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was that was that's why we're going back this year, trying to that's what three threes do, they cramp at the important moments.
- 29:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: It happens to the best of us.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: Not three six players, though.
- 29:26SPEAKER_04: Not three sixes, not at all.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: You watch, I'm gonna cramp up so bad this week.
- 29:31SPEAKER_04: I guess I'll need to bring some pickle juice with me.
- 29:34SPEAKER_05: But nah, that's um that's obviously the goal for you guys, like just get more drilling in.
- 29:39SPEAKER_05: Because that's me.
- 29:40SPEAKER_05: If you listen to us, that's mean I'm we're drilling two, three times a week without match play.
- 29:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like and that's just to get reps and make ourselves confident with all our shots.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: But I think I think even just social hitting, like, and that was one of the things that was kind of brought to my attention recently.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: And I think I spoke about in one of the interviews we did the other week.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Um, the only play I'm getting is comp.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: So it's league or comps.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: There's nothing outside of that, and I think that was kind of screwing with my head a bit because I was like, I feel like I should be winning, but realistically, I wasn't putting in the reps to get there.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: And then I think my game was just slowly like degrading.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't say slowly, but yeah, you keep going.
- 30:16SPEAKER_03: I can't catch a break with this car.
- 30:23SPEAKER_04: I'm trying to feed it more.
- 30:25SPEAKER_05: I'll walk away from this crime in my own home.
- 30:28SPEAKER_05: We need Marco to hit four-off.
- 30:31SPEAKER_05: What's the secret coaching you and I have a barcode?
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Well, talking about coaching though, Blitzy.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: I actually reckon so for a lot of like four, I would say four, five plus, a lot of those players, they kind of know what they want to work on and kind of have that nouse of all right, now I can kind of see what I need to work on.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: I feel like there's an undervalue at the moment in terms of coaching.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, and yeah, you can do five reps, five sessions a week, and you might do it for 10 weeks, but you drill the same thing over and over and over again, and you actually don't improve.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: You might improve like very incrementally.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: But I feel like with coaching, you're actually saving time and money because in that one hour or two hours, or however long you get, that coach actually can help you fixate on what you need to work on, and then that allows you in one or two hours to actually get that correct with the repetitions rather than wasting 20 hours of your time doing the same thing over and over and wondering why you keep missing.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean that's what I've been saying as well, right?
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: Like, I know there's lots of things I need to work on, but I'm not sure what that next step is.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: So I mean we've we've discussed the next step for us realistically to break through that barrier and get to that next level realistically is guided.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: You know, it's coaching, it's it's drilling as well.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but like you got you guys see the game completely different to us.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: Like we're I'm literally just focusing on the next ball that's coming at me.
- 31:53SPEAKER_04: You got like we saw you guys at the PPA, you guys were talking strategies.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: I think you were playing with Nigel, it was like, all right, you gotta cover my left foot.
- 32:00SPEAKER_04: We we looked at that and we're like, what like what?
- 32:03SPEAKER_04: It made no sense to us.
- 32:04SPEAKER_04: We're like, how the hell so they must have hit a couple of balls straight at your left foot, then it was bang.
- 32:09SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 32:09SPEAKER_04: LBW.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you but you just knew straight away, all right, you gotta cover that, and I'll cover this spot.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Like it's yeah, I think I think that's obviously game feel and everything.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Like uh context, I was playing on the right side and yeah, had a long day and I was just done.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: Didn't want that inside leg.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I'm really good at that inside leg, by the way, so don't hit it there.
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: But uh yeah, you you are right.
- 32:31SPEAKER_05: Like we we us in the game differently, so we do different things.
- 32:34SPEAKER_05: But yeah, for you guys, like I'm glad you've taken a lot away from like a clinic because the whole idea of a clinic is a lot of people sometimes don't want to do the weekly coaching, which I still recommend to people.
- 32:43SPEAKER_05: Um, but a clinic is a good opportunity to do two hours of a bit of everything, and then you can take a lot from that.
- 32:49SPEAKER_05: Like for you guys, like hopefully you would remember some of that stuff, and like, oh, I need to work on this.
- 32:54SPEAKER_05: And and that's mean you can just mean you're obviously friends with me now, but you can send me a message or and ask what are some things that we can do because there's plenty of options, um, especially for yeah, like a 3-0 to 3-5.
- 33:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, uh 3-5 and options.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: So you just excluded him.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Oh no, okay.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: There might be different drills.
- 33:15SPEAKER_05: That's okay.
- 33:16SPEAKER_05: There's different drills, maybe for different levels.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Did you guys see what he just did there?
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: He split you guys up into two groups.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Like your breakup.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: I'm just going off what's on um social media.
- 33:27SPEAKER_05: That's always true, isn't it?
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, 100%.
- 33:31SPEAKER_05: Just do it on the internet, it's true.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: You are fake news.
- 33:36SPEAKER_05: So if you want to be a 3-6, don't drill.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: If you want to be 5-0's, drill two, three times a week.
- 33:41SPEAKER_05: That's our uh recommendation.
- 33:43SPEAKER_05: And get a partner who can carry you.
- 33:46SPEAKER_04: My shoulders have been getting a bit sore lately.
- 33:49SPEAKER_04: So it's Josh just carrying me.
- 33:51SPEAKER_04: Um this is gonna be just titled the roasted Michael Morrow.
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: I don't even know what I've done.
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: Stop with a dumb idea for me.
- 34:07SPEAKER_05: It's up there with Josh hating 60-year-olds.
- 34:11SPEAKER_05: Don't put that out there.
- 34:12SPEAKER_05: It's gonna be mentioned at least once and it's gonna be.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: It's continuing, it is sticking.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: I actually I do love the six-year-olds, please.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure, guys.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: We believe you.
- 34:24SPEAKER_05: Um well that moves us on to speaking of like roasting, let's talk about a hot take here.
- 34:32SPEAKER_05: You wanted to start us off, Justin.
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: I did.
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: Um, I would like to go with sandbagging.
- 34:37SPEAKER_04: Um, you guys obviously, I don't know if it's the is it the opposite of sandbagging?
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: We no, it's not the opposite.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: You guys you guys literally ended the four four and plus division and and just absolutely annihilated.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: But we are plus four.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: You are.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, there is that extent optionality.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: This is true, but we we've experienced it well last year at the PPA, and yeah, it was it was I think it was yeah, literally the three to three point five when I was back in my humble beginnings, back when I was humble.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: Anyways, aside from that, there were there was players that um yeah literally told us that they'd deleted their dupers and started a brand new E and and off they went, and they just they just annihilated everyone in the whole division.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: And like we were I I thought going into that one, we were in a pretty good position.
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: We were we were actually playing really well up to that point, and we went what we thought was really well.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but we were definitely competitive in that division, and then we came up against yeah, these guys that literally owned up to like wiping their duper accounts, um, and they just demolished us.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was a good time.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: It was another quick exit at the PPA for us.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: That was a rough day as well.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe he's a 3-6, maybe did the duper reset.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: Duper reset, and how much you pay?
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: Your bank account is no comment.
- 35:54SPEAKER_05: Did the duper reset, that's really why.
- 35:56SPEAKER_05: But uh I really should have done that, yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: It could have been a 3-9.
- 35:59SPEAKER_05: So you guys I doubt it.
- 36:05SPEAKER_05: I doubt it as well.
- 36:08SPEAKER_05: But um, I guess like so.
- 36:09SPEAKER_05: You guys see sandbagging quite a bit, even just like fun local events.
- 36:12SPEAKER_05: What about let's say your local league stuff, too?
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: I mean, well, yeah, I mean, every now and again, I mean, it's it's obviously not the easiest to find fillings.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: If someone's pulling out, you know, pretty late in the day, you've got to just sort of scramble and find someone.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: And obviously, geez, there's there's a few players that are sort of around that level, and yeah, I mean, you bring them in and all of a sudden, you know, someone's calling you a sandbagger because you've you've brought in like a 4-2.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you know, they just they mop the floor.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: That is a different level, isn't it?
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: It is, yeah.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I mean Massive 4-2.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I've read about it in a book.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I mean, like we're we're playing in league, we're playing what I think a duper 16 effectively, which should still, I think, have an upper cap on highest duper going in.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: Um, but we've had yeah, four fives going in, and I've been matched opposite them, and I'm like, as a humble 3-3, I've got no answers to that.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: Forced humbleness at 3-3.
- 37:12SPEAKER_05: I don't think you can go above that.
- 37:15SPEAKER_04: Um as humble as they come in this one, it really is.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: But I mean, I I don't really understand what people get from it, right?
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: Like, you go in, it's like cool.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: And and this was this was exactly the conversation we were having at the PPA last year, which was great, these guys have come in, they've won gold in a division they shouldn't have been playing in in the first place.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: What are you what are you getting from that?
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't rather what did you guys get from from last week?
- 37:42SPEAKER_03: 250 bucks.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: That's what we got.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Fuel money.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we have a discussion about prize money at comps.
- 37:49SPEAKER_04: Talk about two weeks later.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: Big novelty check, yeah, baby.
- 37:55SPEAKER_05: Thank you, amateurs.
- 37:58SPEAKER_05: Wow, shout out.
- 38:01SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's that's not gonna be included, is it?
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: Is that gonna be the girl thing?
- 38:08SPEAKER_05: Definitely not.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: Aaron Blitz.
- 38:11SPEAKER_05: My amateurs, very humble, humble beginnings.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: I think like in um in Asia, that's the sandbagging is like proper, proper real because the amateurs actually get a good amount of money.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Like their prize money is borderline equivalent to the pros because they got so many people entering those events, and so people go, Well, why don't I just drop if I'm at 4-2, why don't I drop and become a 3-6 and then I can win the 3-5 to 3-9 level and make like a thousand dollars.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: So are they doing that literally through just losing games or are they deleting their accounts?
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: No, I think they're losing games, they're tanking games, and then they'll redo it again.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just play.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: I think it's interesting because here we're you know, there was the what the the guidelines that came out around fair play guidelines.
- 38:59SPEAKER_03: And part of that says, you know, essentially like if if you are playing in a higher division and winning, even if your duper drops, you shouldn't be playing in that lower division.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: It comes down to because um Jonathan, who was on the Pickleball Victoria committee, that basically wrote these guidelines to shout out, he was there at the Dink series on the weekend playing like the 3-5 to 4-0 division, I think.
- 39:22SPEAKER_05: Um but I helped with my division.
- 39:28SPEAKER_05: Sorry.
- 39:29SPEAKER_05: I helped with the template of it all, but basically, um, if you win a gold in a particular division in that, like I guess like that tiered event, like a local event, you're supposed to not play in that uh division again.
- 39:42SPEAKER_05: You're supposed to play up, but it's up to the tournament director to um, I guess, enforce that and it relies on like the players actually emailing in, telling the tournament director, oh, this guy's won the last five, three oh to three five events, Justin McLeod, and then he should be playing the 3.5 plus going forward.
- 40:00SPEAKER_05: Um, and that was the whole idea behind our um fair play guidelines.
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: And I think it we're enforcing it obviously at the Victorian Championships, but I guess it comes down to these tournament directors enforcing it themselves because we're trying to make it fair play because people will not continue playing pickleball if they feel like they're gonna go to a tournament and they're gonna be shafted because they're playing someone that's way too good for them.
- 40:21SPEAKER_05: Um, but yeah, Asia's a lot more money.
- 40:23SPEAKER_05: But on the weekend, let's mean, yeah, we won$500.
- 40:26SPEAKER_05: The 4-0 and like the 3-5 to 4-0 division still won$400.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: Like that's really good.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: Pretty good.
- 40:34SPEAKER_04: I I definitely could.
- 40:35SPEAKER_04: I'll tell you what, just just on that, the the dink series medals, I think, are the best in the game.
- 40:41SPEAKER_04: I mean, I I haven't I haven't even played him one, but I've seen them, and I mean, what do you guys think?
- 40:46SPEAKER_04: You can hold ours if you like.
- 40:50SPEAKER_04: I should be so lucky.
- 40:53SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, they're they're actually they're quite heavy and big.
- 40:56SPEAKER_05: Very heavy.
- 40:56SPEAKER_05: It's been the Vic Open ones this year were really good.
- 40:58SPEAKER_05: Um, and I know the PPA ones are really bulky and heavy too.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: That's something that I always had a grouch against prior to like the last couple years was some of these events, like for-profit events, getting these plastic little medals, and you're paying$50 to play an event, like invest in the medals.
- 41:15SPEAKER_05: That's why, like previously, when I was running the Victorian Opens, we got like massive glass like awards and big medals.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: Because I'm like, people are paying a lot of money to play these events.
- 41:25SPEAKER_05: We should be um encouraging them to like want to win because they get a really cool medal and they put it on these stands, and yeah, it's really impressive.
- 41:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's good.
- 41:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, that that's honestly pretty much all I'm playing for at the moment is like a couple of medals for the kids.
- 41:39SPEAKER_04: If I can get two medals, I've got one for each of my boys.
- 41:42SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm like ecstatic.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: Like, that's the best thing ever for me.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: I'll literally take them home, give them to the kids, and then all of a sudden I don't see them again.
- 41:49SPEAKER_04: You can go to the trophy shop, get one, mate.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: I've got a I've got an option for you, mate.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: You could just sandbag.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: You could go back under the three fives and sandbag.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: So if you play with Michael a little bit more, he might go back under.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: Oh wow.
- 42:04SPEAKER_05: I felt that's really harsh.
- 42:09SPEAKER_05: It is to overtake the couch.
- 42:11SPEAKER_05: It is the couch.
- 42:12SPEAKER_05: I'm only coming off what he's told me today.
- 42:17SPEAKER_05: I have never met this man in my life.
- 42:18SPEAKER_05: I swear.
- 42:20SPEAKER_05: We did not meet at UMG before this for dinner.
- 42:24SPEAKER_05: Powered by UMG tonight, by the way.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: I'd be falling asleep in the beginning.
- 42:29SPEAKER_05: This is a school night.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: And those load of fronts are bad idea, boys.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 42:36SPEAKER_05: Any other comments about the sandbagging?
- 42:38SPEAKER_05: Like, I guess for me, prior, that's why the fair play guidelines came in.
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: Um, we've seen it before.
- 42:43SPEAKER_05: We like obviously it's hard for us to sandbag and we're not trying to sandbag, but at your level, I guess it comes down to some people come into the game and they think they're a 3-0, but they don't know what level they are yet.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: So they might actually be above that, like, especially if you're a pro tennis player or higher-level tennis player.
- 42:58SPEAKER_05: So I think we give an event for people to kind of get into it, and then from there, like if they win it, that's the whole point.
- 43:04SPEAKER_05: It's like, well, you're actually not a 3-0, you're probably a 3-8, just hasn't been reflected in duper because don't have many results, reliability's low.
- 43:12SPEAKER_05: So then maybe the next event you play that next higher division.
- 43:15SPEAKER_05: I know for a fact there's an over-50s male right now, okay, for a couple of years.
- 43:20SPEAKER_05: He's been around for a while that used to not play the 4-0 plus to play the bit under or the under the 4-5, just so he can win medals, because it might be better for his brand.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: Um, and then he would apply to be in the over 50s masters like Team Victoria or other things.
- 43:37SPEAKER_05: And it's like, well, you can't apply for it if you are winning events under that you're sandbagging in.
- 43:43SPEAKER_05: And it's just basically inspired the fair play guidelines.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: So that's just a little bit of history behind that.
- 43:48SPEAKER_05: So you guys can have a guess who that is.
- 43:50SPEAKER_05: Um bit of controversy.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: Um, but I guess any other comments on the sandbagging?
- 43:56SPEAKER_05: No.
- 43:56unknown: No.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh I think the hard part with it, especially when you mentioned about the people coming in first comp and that sort of thing.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: I think there needs to be, I don't know what it is, but some sort of like sense check, right?
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: Like I had a friend, he played the three, four, nine, and under singles, and he came up, I think it was for the gold medal match, and uh got I think he got like absolutely like destroyed.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: And this bloke that that won it just cleaned up, um, so much so that his duper jumped straight to like 4.3.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: And when he was chatting with him afterwards, he said, Oh yeah, they've been playing like I'm a professional tennis coach for 20 years or something, and it's like come on.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a bit it's a bit rude, isn't it?
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, silly behavior.
- 44:39SPEAKER_05: Imagine hitting for one week and he's already a higher duper than Justin.
- 44:43SPEAKER_05: That's what that bloke's done.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it can't be having that, Justin.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Tough tasks.
- 44:48SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna take this guy on to let your duper account first.
- 44:53SPEAKER_04: I think that kind of actually happened to me in my first ever 20.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: That was I went I went in their singles for the Melbourne Grand Slam.
- 45:00SPEAKER_04: Um, I think I actually entered because I'd literally been playing for like three or four weeks.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: I didn't even have a paddle.
- 45:05SPEAKER_04: Like I was just using like the the paddles, the free paddles that they let you use at the socials, and um, I've entered the two, four, nine, and under because I had no idea what the rate.
- 45:14SPEAKER_05: System was and then uh yeah there wasn't enough people in that so they bumped us up to the three and under and I thought uh shit I'm gonna get smoked here and then yeah just just went and just cleaned house and neck neck minute that's why he's a three six wow that's straight up to three nine baby oh so so three six is not news to you no look your career higher has been higher than what you are currently right now yeah thanks Aaron in singles in singles yeah i singles yeah yeah um but we yeah we we we met at that comp didn't we or did we yeah yeah yes yes bitter rivals turn friends yeah turn friends friendship turn extra bitter rivals I guess yeah all right next part we want to do questions we we obviously ask on our social medias we've got a few questions we've picked a few of our favorites I know Justin's got one for cheer we're gonna leave to the end that's this and cheer does not know the question he's nervous if you've seen him in if you end up watching the YouTube of this Josh has been like moving around in his chair and nervous for this question um I got one from I think it's Mike Lee or Mike Lai what are your mental reset tips when you get tight so like is there anything that we all do when when we're getting maybe a little bit tight at the end of a game like is there something that you try and do or are we just not closing out games?
- 46:39SPEAKER_04: I mean we next question no comment no I I try I've I think early days I was I was very tense and I'd I'd get real aggro in yeah just the mental mindset was really bad and then just just lately I've just sort of just had that mindset of just brush it off it's just a game like it's it's not it's actually not that important.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: I mean I love winning but it's it's not that important at the end of the day that I need to be you know throwing a paddle smacking Michael across the head with the paddle.
- 47:09SPEAKER_04: Again no comment but no it's yeah I think just sort of laughing it off and just just going for that next ball and just just having that Federer mindset to to just reset after every single point.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: This guy's calling himself 3-6 and Federer at the same time who are you Michael he's impersonating this whole time actually Federist stunt double you're the Michael Jordan of pickleball for a second that's what we go with probably Michael Gordon of pickleball I don't even know who that is what's your what's your mindset tips?
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah I think sometimes it's just getting back to why are we playing the sport and it's to have fun.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: I think when I'm really getting my own head I'm like okay this I'm not a pro.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: I'm never going to be earning like money from playing this like just get back to the point of why I'm entering these competitions which is to play good pickleball against people who are equally passionate.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: And I think like there was there was a research I was doing for a little bit um that was actually like advised to me by um a therapist um who said when you're noticing getting really tense you're noticing getting like dry mouth um to have something sour.
- 48:23SPEAKER_03: So I used to take a pack of a pack of like sour gummies with me because then it activates your salivary glands and then like convinces you that everything's okay.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: So I was actually doing that for a little bit just when I was getting a bit like on edge just call a timeout pop four of those and then yeah that was kind of the that's good insight.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah yeah wow actually unfortunately I hate sour.
- 48:43SPEAKER_05: Oh I love revolting I have to change your game I might have to do a 3-3 very quickly yes I've I've been told there's like sour sprays that you can get that you just literally can just spray like there are whatever but I I haven't found them but apparently that's equal we need one of them for cheer at the start of the first episode last time he was a bit toe at the start forgot his name get him the sour lollies um I that's I think like I'm gonna use that to be honest.
- 49:13SPEAKER_05: Like I think that's a great idea um that's mean that's valuable for everyone um for me like it depends on how I feel like I'm playing like there's definitely some events like Josh would know that sometimes maybe I'm missing a couple drops at the end because I feel like I need to hit the perfect shot or I'm just so like tight like we're winning we're we're on a match point because normally it's on a drop um so it like and if Josh is feeling hotter and he's making more balls I'm like Josh just take the middle ball for me.
- 49:38SPEAKER_05: From my standpoint I guess it's hard like when you are playing in front of a big crowd MLP representing a team and you've got a lot of pressure because you don't want to let your teammates down I think it's hard to shut off and just think oh this is just for the fun of it.
- 49:50SPEAKER_05: Like I think I get in my own head too much sometimes because I want to do really well and for me maybe I'm not getting as much preparation as some of the other pros.
- 49:58SPEAKER_05: But then when we do these smaller events, yeah you still get tight because there's expectation that you should win like the Dink series that we should win that.
- 50:05SPEAKER_05: So you get a little bit tight.
- 50:06SPEAKER_05: But there has definitely been some events where like maybe like Josh misses misses like one third and then I'm like Josh it's okay I'll take the middle ball because I'm feeling hot like I feel like I'm gonna make a lot of good balls.
- 50:16SPEAKER_05: So I think that's what's I guess the difference between some plays is you've got to figure out with your partner who's the one that's feeling comfortable hitting the ball and yeah have faith in yourself.
- 50:26SPEAKER_05: Go to a shot that you know you can hit consistently that you've drilled sometimes when I'm nervous I go for the drive instead um instead of the drop so that's me what do you do Josh?
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah I think yeah obviously keeping loose is pretty important but um for me in the past I would just think like the the opponent on the other side also wants to win the match.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: So like there's also a a challenge for them.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: So I think it's so easy for us to think that everything is negative on our end but on the other end it's also a bit of a challenge and you've just got to be that resistant to them.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: But I think recently yeah I've been a bit lazy on the court recently so um just refocusing on getting energy in anything to the legs I think it all starts with that and um if you can focus on the legs itself and try to get some energy into the ball at least you've done your best there.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: That's the way I look into it.
- 51:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah I think like something I want to add to that is to like I try and tell myself now like hunt for the ball like I find sometimes at the kitchen like I'm feeling because especially like sometimes if you're more on the left like you're supposed to be a bit more aggressive but then if you're passive then your your partner you're playing with might be passive too and then it's like well you're just gonna lose the points from there.
- 51:39SPEAKER_05: So sometimes you just got to tell yourself even if you're on the right or the left hunt for the ball like hit the ball out of the air like do the things that you know are good.
- 51:47SPEAKER_05: Don't be too passive.
- 51:48SPEAKER_05: Don't take half a step back I think it's just I guess positive reinforcement sometimes and I I know Andy D, who's the Northern Crocs captain, she on her social, she talks about like the mental side of pickleball.
- 52:00SPEAKER_05: So everyone should probably have a look at that.
- 52:02SPEAKER_05: But I think there is so much of a mental game when it comes to pickleball so just I mean go to your strengths.
- 52:08SPEAKER_05: That's my biggest suggestion.
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: But I think even just sort of what you're saying there about almost having something that you're just kind of focusing on which take which like reminds me a bit of when we played the Eastern comp and we were playing pretty well we got through to the quarterfinals and we we were up by a huge margin and then we ended up losing it and getting knocked out and you got quite frustrated with yourself um afterwards.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah now I remember yeah yeah I walked straight out of the venue I was I was done yeah and and like we nearly split up then actually but that that was one of those days I think where like I was I was really on it and you were as well and then I think you just faded in that match and then afterwards we said like there were two things that you really need focus on which was bending your knees and keeping your paddle up.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah and then you took that into the following day I think it was when I played with we played with Tyson you partner in three in three five three nine nine and you said that you were just thinking the whole time how to bend your knees and that was stopping you from going out of your own head into like a negative sort of space and keep you focused and I watched you um when you were playing and you were just playing like the best I'd seen you play.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah well that's what three sixes do but um I'm sorry oh I'm such a dickhead I'm sorry I'm trying to save Michael here um but no I think honestly a 6-0 call from Michael though about like the sour sour lollies or something because I I've heard that before and I've heard that even from like a teaching perspective like for students if they're getting nervous about stuff and anxiety.
- 53:45SPEAKER_05: So I think I reckon I'm gonna take that one away so that'd be that's the biggest one I've taken away so far.
- 53:51SPEAKER_05: Get on to the next question because we're we're pumping through this episode um George Wall sent through what's our best ever win wow George Wall.
- 54:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah that's well we're talking about the high I think the highest rated doubles singles player from Australia in the world shout out George great fellow great mustache man like he's he's got a great mustache it's should never get rid of that thing.
- 54:15SPEAKER_05: Best win go on Michael take it away to win without Justin that you can be proud of short answer no um no um what do you got I don't know I'm yeah I'm really struggling on this one have you got one Josh in the meantime we'll let Michael have some time the three threes need some time what do we what do we mean by best win like best moment or best moment best win like something your favorite winner could it could be against memorable win oh that's that's a really tough question.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: I I think there was midseason tournament MPL recently I was down um it might have been eight two in a first of 15 singles obviously like Ashton was a bit injured so a bit tough on Ashton but I was playing against James Wilson good singles player James and I thought gee this is a bit of a tough tough ask but yeah just fired up and came back from 8-2 down and I think I won might have been 15-13 or 16-14 from from 8-2 down that was um a tough one and obviously I had I had a few good singles wins that weekend but just to come back from there was was really really nice I think I beat Josh Barber 8-1 that weekend as well so I've had some decent ones he's playing really well Josh Barber um I don't know and Carl Stoke I beat him recently too so I don't really know what my best win is I was gonna say we we were you happy when we won the Victorian championships a couple years ago is that a good win that's a good win yeah short memories winning a state title who do we play against play Tamman um Chris Massey in the final it's a good win yeah it's I've just been like if you think about like that's still a state championship I think that's exciting.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Well we've had a state championship haven't we've got state pickle ball center championship I think the medal still says state pickleball champions though yeah it yeah yeah it does fair enough and that's also going to an early segment one of my favourite medals like the actual design yeah it's good that's a good medal shout out SPC yeah but I mean I'd almost say for me I think the the road like to getting that first gold for me because it was just we kept getting so close and then falling short I think winning winning that a few weeks ago was just like ah okay like I can I can do this when I'm in the right state of mind and so on.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: And that was really good.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: And I think the other one for me which I think it was just a social match but it made it made me realize that you know I've got a bit more potential in me if I actually put the time and effort in um I was playing a match against uh James Sidd and Chris Kelf um both hovering around that sort of 4.0 level and I was playing I was playing with Josh Dowling down at um Easton another solid 35, 36.
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: And we we won I think like 116 or something like that.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: And that those two may have been off that night I don't know but like I felt oh okay when I'm on I can play you can match it with the big dogs.
- 57:38SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: I guess for me I've got a few favourite ones and best moments.
- 57:45SPEAKER_05: I I actually messaged George Wall and told him I think he was expecting me to say hit my win against him and Jack Wong which which I that is a big win and I'm proud of like George Wall and Jack Wong were talking MLP last year both close to six O's I was playing with Joey Farius he was probably carrying me for most of it we spoke about when when we when we interviewed them but I think that was a huge win but it was like that whole weekend it was a lot of big wins like Kenta Miyoshi and Clayton Boydston were high fives too and we won that men's doubles and won matches to get into an MLP final which is something I'm really proud of representing Melbourne.
- 58:21SPEAKER_05: But I guess my biggest and my favorite win um was probably winning the Queensland Championships in 2022.
- 58:28SPEAKER_05: I came off six months of chemotherapy got back into pickleball at a higher level and I was coming off national championships stuff like that and I had a point to prove there was a lot of really good Queenslanders me and Alex Ung beat um a lot of really good pairs um which Queensland Championships before pro events was the biggest title in Australia outside of nationals at the APC and went when I took that like got quite emotional at the time because I'd been through quite an ordeal leading up to that and uh I was really proud of that moment and that's probably my most important or impressive win in my brain anyway and that's mean some battles um are tougher off the court which that's mean sometimes it makes it easier to then compete on the court as well which I'm really proud of.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: I might jump in I actually remembered one and I I'm really excited to tell you this one.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: Oh man um anyways that's all we have time for guys Nicholas Maliganias he's back baby when this comes out it's gonna be three episodes what this guy will never tell you despite all the nonsense he says about me is I'm I've got a three and one record against him in singles.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: Actually no four and one I think he can correct it and he'll he'll comment I know he will but MPL last year I filled in with summer Dallabona and um Sarah Dennehy and Nigel and I was playing against Nick and we I had previously cramped in the past rubber so my hammies were dead I couldn't move and I just thought I'm just gonna take this match against this guy I don't I don't even give what crap he's gonna tell me and I went down in change of ends what was the format I think it was first to 11 as well so I went down 6-0 and I was like I'm so done here.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_00: This guy it it was 6-0 in like two minutes.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: It was real bad change of ends Nigel was like just go swing you got summer Dalabonish he's just happy to be there to be honest and Sara Denehy really good captain just said just go swing like who cares what happens and then I thought you know what stuff this guy and I just started move like I I I downed a whole gator and I just went I'm just gonna do whatever I can slapped like five winners and I think this guy just started freaking out um and in the previous match it's caught on camera and I remember posting on my story he actually did this thing where he insinuated choking because I was about to lose a mixed doubles match where we were winning by a decent amount and we got really close but we just got over the line and so I start I started doing these ones to him just full Reggie Miller mode.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: Full like showing him that he's choking here and I think he had matches too he was up like 10 eight or 10 nine then it just kept going back and forth.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_00: Like he was up 1110 1211 I think I got him I can't remember the exact score line but moral story is never tell me I'm choking Nick Mel because you don't have it on me he just got clipped boy oh boy where are we we we've all said our favorite one the 3-6 has to speak though he's gonna have the biggest win of us all isn't he getting the 3-6.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_05: So anyways I uh this is actually a very true story let me just preface that um I thought I'd play American singles uh me on one side and Aaron Blitz and Josh here on the other side uh 11-0 you guys remember that no really no you have we been on a court together I'm pretty sure I don't know what was last night I swear did I just dream it what was that one of your duper is his duper even 3.6 so I've been really good at photoshopping these days what's his reliability we actually need to check that out that can't be legit in five uh best win I yeah I think I played a singles tournament at State Pickleball Center and this was I think it was one of the first times I've gone in the 3-5 plus and um yeah come up against some really tough comp uh I think they were pretty much all over four and I was just pretty much a measly three five and a half or whatever I was thought I was really well out of my depths there and then I ended up coming up against this young guy Adrian Van Earle AJ big AJ I love AJ big sexy AJ wearing the headband and um I just had the game of my life I don't know what it was big Chris Kelf was uh coaching me from the sidelines and um yeah I don't I don't know how but I pulled out an 119 win against him and I was I was just stoked I looked up his duper and it was a 4-2 and I was like holy shit like I'm good and that's and that's when I stopped being humble that's how you got to 3-6 yeah probably yeah but now it was a good time that was that was good for me yeah right this is your time to shine further Justin you've got a question for Josh Chia's no idea what's coming look this is this isn't my question by the way this this this got pinned on us through some uh some viewers from the pod okay is there a chance is there a chance in hell josh chia versus Liam Lamb 2.0 in what singles yeah baby I mean there's always a chance what's at stake did someone say steak no but seriously there's uh there's there's rumblings that there's gonna be a ultimate pickleball championship tournament with belts on the line I haven't seen the contract and uh Dana White slash Luke Riley will send it through soon but yeah uh keen not keen um need more details yeah conditions name them name them go for name them um it's gonna need to have an appearance fee it's definitely gonna need to have uh referees definitely gonna need a few more humans that I definitely cannot say on the pod okay okay you forced me into a jab we didn't want you to know about this train away um yeah I don't know um it's definitely gonna need Liam to not mention anything about how sore he is or any like anything I mean he's probably the favorite if it's singles going into it let's be completely honest here you're going you're going in with that underdog mentality I'm a I'm an underdog yeah yeah you don't you don't battle against the likes of Aaron Blitz as an underdog and not have a heart you know so yeah I'll uh we'll see what the contract comes in with but yeah it definitely needs a few tinkerings yeah okay okay yeah I like it I like it yeah what else do we got here what was I think that's mean that's we got those four questions from the social media and I think that was exciting you wanted that question out there from your social joy walked into a trap there but uh oh thank you for another great episode that's been I think it's just great having us four chatting pickleball there's gonna be plenty more of that and we've got quite a few interviews still to go um just a huge shout out to Michael Morel who's been doing a fantastic job with the editing and making us look really good in these pods like yeah big dog into 3.6 in my eyes is a six oh when it comes to podcasts he's the Ben he's the Ben Johns of audio engineering.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_05: There we go there you go happy look at it look reconciled Michael is happy to see you next time
