- 0:05Speaker 1: FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal is here, and Ken, we
- 0:08Speaker 1: love when news breaks right before the show starts instead
- 0:11Speaker 1: of Saturday night at midnight or right after the show.
- 0:14Speaker 1: So your thoughts on Nolan Ironato moving over to the Diamondbacks.
- 0:19Speaker 2: When I look at it, I'm actually not that surprised,
- 0:21Speaker 2: simply because we know the Diamondbacks were interested in Alex Bregman.
- 0:26Speaker 2: We know they were looking for a right handed hitting
- 0:28Speaker 2: corner infielder, and Aronato from that perspective, makes a lot
- 0:32Speaker 2: of sense. So once Bregman went off the board, Arnado
- 0:36Speaker 2: to the Diamondbacks heated up, and that is how this
- 0:38Speaker 2: came to pass. The one interesting thing about this to
- 0:42Speaker 2: me is how much money the Cardinals are paying. It's
- 0:45Speaker 2: thirty one of the remaining forty two million. Now some
- 0:48Speaker 2: of that is deferred, So the less of a hit
- 0:52Speaker 2: to the Cardinals in that respect because they're going to
- 0:54Speaker 2: be paying that out and it's deferred money. But at
- 0:56Speaker 2: the same time, the Diamondbacks are essentially getting Nolan Arnatto
- 1:00Speaker 2: for five million one year, six million the next. In
- 1:03Speaker 2: this day and age, that's not very much at all.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And the pitcher they gave up was an eighth round
- 1:09Speaker 2: pick last year, Jack Martinez at Arizona State, and he
- 1:14Speaker 2: wasn't listed among the Diamondbacks' top thirty prospects. I imagine
- 1:18Speaker 2: hein Blue must have liked this kid out of the
- 1:20Speaker 2: draft for some reason. So from the Diamondbacks perspective, it
- 1:23Speaker 2: seems to be a win win and the Cardinals, as
- 1:26Speaker 2: you guys discussed in the previous segment, this is the
- 1:30Speaker 2: route that they're going right now. This is the direction
- 1:32Speaker 2: that they're in, rebuilding and trying to put together the
- 1:37Speaker 2: next great Cardinals team. It's going to be a few years.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But as we've discussed before, this was kind of overdue
- 1:44Speaker 2: for them. They kind of held on too long and
- 1:47Speaker 2: now it's going to be a crash and they understand that.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But at the same time, this is the way for
- 1:53Speaker 2: them in their minds to move forward.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Ken, what can the Diamondbacks fans expect from Aronado? Because
- 2:01Speaker 3: we talked about his numbers and how the people are
- 2:03Speaker 3: questioning whether he's slipped or not. And the other thing
- 2:06Speaker 3: I want to know is how did the Cardinals finally
- 2:08Speaker 3: get an Nolan Arnado to agree to a no trade,
- 2:11Speaker 3: to waive his no trade because he fought it like
- 2:14Speaker 3: hell last year, obviously declining it, and now this year
- 2:17Speaker 3: he accepted the trade to Arizona.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Well, he obviously wanted out to and he knew that. Listen,
- 2:25Speaker 2: at some point he was going to have to be
- 2:26Speaker 2: more flexible. And you guys mentioned Katie Who's tweet. She
- 2:31Speaker 2: basically said that Ronado was told by the Cardinals, if
- 2:34Speaker 2: you're more flexible, we can be more flexible with the money,
- 2:37Speaker 2: and let's make this happen. And that seems to be
- 2:40Speaker 2: the way this came about. And Arnado did not want
- 2:43Speaker 2: to go back to Saint Louis. It was a tough
- 2:44Speaker 2: place for him to hit. Now, how much better will
- 2:48Speaker 2: it be in Arizona, I don't know, because here's a
- 2:51Speaker 2: guy who has been in decline for a couple of
- 2:53Speaker 2: years now offensively, and can he get it back? I
- 2:57Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know how much he's lost. So
- 2:59Speaker 2: it's going to be really interesting from that perspective to
- 3:01Speaker 2: see what noa on Arnado still has left. Defensively, he's
- 3:05Speaker 2: still really good, maybe not as elite as he once was,
- 3:09Speaker 2: But for me, this is a good move for the Diamondbacks.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It raises some questions about what's next with them, What
- 3:15Speaker 2: do they do with Jordan Lawler, What do they do
- 3:18Speaker 2: with Blaize ally Xander, because remember it could tell Marte
- 3:20Speaker 2: is still on the Arizona Diamondbacks. They now have Arnatto
- 3:24Speaker 2: a third, Perdomo is short Martey at second. They don't
- 3:28Speaker 2: really have much at first base. Peven Smith is a
- 3:31Speaker 2: guy who certainly can contribute there. Do they go out
- 3:35Speaker 2: and sign Paul Goldschmidt as well, because they've been looking
- 3:38Speaker 2: for a right handed hitting first base type. There are
- 3:40Speaker 2: a number of those guys still available, so that would
- 3:43Speaker 2: be quite interesting if we saw a Goldschmid Arnado reunion
- 3:46Speaker 2: in Arizona kind of along those lines.
- 3:50Speaker 4: You didn't quite hit it for me. What about that
- 3:54Speaker 4: money that they possibly could have spent on Bregman? Is
- 3:56Speaker 4: this a once off type of thing when we hear
- 4:00Speaker 4: that possibly they are in on Bregmant, Is there another
- 4:02Speaker 4: player on the market that if they were to make
- 4:05Speaker 4: some moves because they still want their young players to play.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Like you said, Lawler and Blaze Alexander had a quality
- 4:10Speaker 4: year last year. Is that money Do you think that
- 4:14Speaker 4: money's still out on the table for Kendrick the owner,
- 4:17Speaker 4: not for.
- 4:18Speaker 2: A player of Begman's caliber. They are going to do things,
- 4:22Speaker 2: and there's not much question about that. They want to
- 4:25Speaker 2: upgrade their bullpen. That is the area of focus right
- 4:29Speaker 2: now and it has to be because if you remember,
- 4:32Speaker 2: not only is Corbyn Burns recovering from Tommy John surgery,
- 4:35Speaker 2: but Justin Puck I'm sorry, Justin Martinez and aj Puck
- 4:39Speaker 2: are both covering from Tommy John as well, and they
- 4:43Speaker 2: need help in their bullpen before those guys come back.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And with Tommy John returnees, you never know exactly what
- 4:51Speaker 2: you're going to get, how long it's going to take
- 4:53Speaker 2: them to find their form again. So they're still looking.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Are they going to spend the amount of money Eric
- 4:59Speaker 2: that they would have spent on Bregman No, But at
- 5:02Speaker 2: the same time, they are going to upgrade their roster.
- 5:04Speaker 2: They're pretty aggressive about it, as we've seen over the years,
- 5:08Speaker 2: and this Arenata move speaks to that.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Ken, you mentioned that they wanted a right handed hitting
- 5:14Speaker 3: and they're not sure what they're going to do at
- 5:16Speaker 3: first base. I'm going to ask this because we've had
- 5:21Speaker 3: some questions about Gaby Moreno as a catcher defensively, which
- 5:26Speaker 3: that was kind of his thing when he first came up,
- 5:28Speaker 3: but last year they ended up with mccannback there a
- 5:30Speaker 3: lot more. Would there be some thoughts from the Diamondbacks
- 5:33Speaker 3: to maybe move Moreno to a first base position and
- 5:37Speaker 3: let him learn there, much like what happened with Wilson Contraz.
- 5:39Speaker 3: I know, Moreno's much younger and it still has much
- 5:42Speaker 3: more upside, but especially defensively, but would that be possibly
- 5:46Speaker 3: a thought to help them out if they don't go
- 5:48Speaker 3: get somebody.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I have not heard that. AJ. I don't believe that
- 5:52Speaker 2: they're willing to give up on Gabrielle Moreno as a
- 5:55Speaker 2: catcher just yet, but I would imagine teams look at
- 5:58Speaker 2: all possibilities and while this might be what a five
- 6:01Speaker 2: to ten percent right now, maybe it's something in the future.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And if they did that, the problem becomes, you've got
- 6:08Speaker 2: to go get a catcher now. JT. Real Mutto is
- 6:11Speaker 2: still out there. I mean, we're just playing connect the
- 6:13Speaker 2: dots here. We're not talking about anything that we know
- 6:16Speaker 2: to be serious. But that would be one issue with
- 6:19Speaker 2: moving out from Moreno, especially when he was so highly
- 6:24Speaker 2: regarded defensively just a couple of years ago. I don't
- 6:26Speaker 2: know that he's lost it there, so I would expect
- 6:29Speaker 2: that that's not going to be the solution the way
- 6:32Speaker 2: it was described to me. This was before Arnado. There
- 6:36Speaker 2: are a number of right handed hitting first base DH
- 6:38Speaker 2: types out there, and they can go get one of them,
- 6:41Speaker 2: probably at a rate that is pretty good.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Hey, make good eats at home part of your twenty
- 6:47Speaker 1: twenty six New Year's resolution.

- 7:14Speaker 1: made with wholesome ingredients like one hundred percent antibiotic and

- 7:45Speaker 1: one meal kit, Hello Fresh.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Based on what's happened in the last two days, Bregman, Now,
- 7:50Speaker 4: obviously are not a much smaller deal. Is Kyle Tucker's
- 7:53Speaker 4: decision looming closer or is there still another chip that
- 7:57Speaker 4: needs to fall before Kyle Tucker's says okay? Now it's time.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The Kyle Tucker market is active. And Will Salmon of
- 8:05Speaker 2: The Athletic reported on this just today and he said
- 8:08Speaker 2: that the Mets similar are in the range of three years,
- 8:12Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty to one hundred and forty million.
- 8:14Speaker 2: That is what sources have suggested to him. And if
- 8:17Speaker 2: that's the case, and if that is their range three
- 8:20Speaker 2: one twenty to one forty, then the question becomes, Okay,
- 8:24Speaker 2: will the Blue Jays go beyond that? Will the Dodgers
- 8:27Speaker 2: go beyond that? Well, the Mets need to raise their offer.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So this particular negotiation, the one involving Tucker, with all
- 8:34Speaker 2: of these clubs, seems to be coming to a head.
- 8:37Speaker 2: I would not be surprised if it was this week,
- 8:40Speaker 2: next week sometime soon.
- 8:43Speaker 3: That's it. Ken's here's my reaction to what you just said.
- 8:46Speaker 3: He was supposed to get four They were talking four
- 8:48Speaker 3: or five hundred million. Now we're talking three years, one twenty.
- 8:52Speaker 4: What happened?
- 8:53Speaker 2: What? That's what the Mets we're talking? I don't know,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I know, but Bucker is talking, and maybe the Blue
- 8:59Speaker 2: Jays are Dodgers are willing to go longer.
- 9:01Speaker 6: But you raise a good point aj that the Mets
- 9:04Speaker 6: even being at that level, the level that sources have
- 9:07Speaker 6: suggested to Will Salmon, shows you that Tucker and the
- 9:11Speaker 6: demand for Tucker is not.
- 9:13Speaker 2: What we thought it would be going into last season.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He's coming off two injury marred years, not his best
- 9:20Speaker 2: years because he has had injuries, nothing chronic, nothing that
- 9:24Speaker 2: necessarily people need to worry about. But he's had some
- 9:26Speaker 2: things happen and he hasn't had maybe the production that
- 9:30Speaker 2: he had in Houston. So yeah, I don't know that
- 9:34Speaker 2: he's going to get four hundred. I don't know that
- 9:35Speaker 2: he was ever going to get four hundred. Could he
- 9:38Speaker 2: get three hundred from a team? Is some team willing
- 9:40Speaker 2: to step out longer? Of the three we've mentioned, I
- 9:44Speaker 2: don't know the answer. To that is yes. Now, the
- 9:46Speaker 2: Blue Jays would seem to me to be the most
- 9:49Speaker 2: logical one to go long because they've got Springer and
- 9:52Speaker 2: Dalton Varshow who are free agents after this season. They
- 9:56Speaker 2: are going to need to supplement their outfield in some fashion.
- 9:59Speaker 2: But at the same time, they've already signed Okamoto, They've
- 10:04Speaker 2: done a number of other things in free agency. They
- 10:08Speaker 2: seem to be in a mode right now where they
- 10:11Speaker 2: are spending and spending rather freely. But all teams have limits,
- 10:14Speaker 2: and is a longer term deal for Tucker where their
- 10:18Speaker 2: limit is? I don't know the answer to that. But
- 10:21Speaker 2: Ajau raise a great point. Where is he going to
- 10:23Speaker 2: end up when the expectation was so much higher? Now,
- 10:26Speaker 2: one other thing, if he does sign one of those
- 10:29Speaker 2: shorter deals with opt outs, he can put together a
- 10:32Speaker 2: great year this year and then do what Bregman just
- 10:35Speaker 2: did and go out and to the market once again
- 10:37Speaker 2: when perhaps he would do better.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Does he need to do that? Is he a guy
- 10:42Speaker 4: that needs a prove it season? He's gonna turn twenty
- 10:45Speaker 4: nine here in a couple of days. Does he need
- 10:49Speaker 4: to prove it? Because we just talked about yesterday, teams
- 10:53Speaker 4: and agents alike. Look at the last three seasons he
- 10:56Speaker 4: had a OPS plus of one one seventy nine injury shortened,
- 11:01Speaker 4: I get it, and a one forty three. Because if
- 11:04Speaker 4: he gets this again, like Tucker, I mean, like like Bragman,
- 11:08Speaker 4: like all the guys, all the guys. Is this a
- 11:13Speaker 4: way that owners are really kind of manipulating one more
- 11:17Speaker 4: year of you not using your free agency because it's
- 11:20Speaker 4: all paid out for all those Boris guys, which you
- 11:22Speaker 4: wrote nice, very eloquently in your article.
- 11:26Speaker 2: It's a good question, and I don't know the answer
- 11:29Speaker 2: to that if it's a concerted strategy of clubs to
- 11:33Speaker 2: do this. Certainly with Juan Soto that wasn't a problem.
- 11:37Speaker 2: With William Donalas, it wasn't a problem. Those are the
- 11:39Speaker 2: two guys who have signed longer deals in the last
- 11:41Speaker 2: couple of years, along with on the pitching side to
- 11:44Speaker 2: Unca Smax Freed. But with Tucker, it seems and we
- 11:49Speaker 2: don't know the answer yet because we have not seen
- 11:51Speaker 2: the market play out to the fullest, but it seems
- 11:54Speaker 2: that the demand for him is not what we anticipated
- 11:58Speaker 2: it would be, and there are reasons for that. The
- 12:00Speaker 2: performance what happened in Chicago where he was kind of
- 12:04Speaker 2: playing hurt, but he missed some time and it just
- 12:07Speaker 2: wasn't great at the end. First half was amazing. So
- 12:13Speaker 2: it seems to me it's what the market for him
- 12:15Speaker 2: is possibly dictating right now. And I say possibly because
- 12:19Speaker 2: he may end up seven years, three hundred. I don't
- 12:22Speaker 2: know what the answer is, but Eric, if we see
- 12:26Speaker 2: a pattern like this development and it continues to develop
- 12:29Speaker 2: where teams are trying to squeeze players to go short,
- 12:33Speaker 2: and teams have been successful at this with several players
- 12:36Speaker 2: in the last couple of years in free agency, then
- 12:39Speaker 2: that question would be fair. But you still have longer
- 12:42Speaker 2: terms being given out just not to maybe all of
- 12:46Speaker 2: the players that would have received them in the past.
- 12:49Speaker 3: I mean, right, so far, the one Scott Boris has
- 12:51Speaker 3: signed of worked out Alonzo Snell, Chetan Montgomery, but he
- 12:57Speaker 3: got hurt also, so let's not forget. He also had
- 12:59Speaker 3: he also had the zipper put on his arm, so
- 13:01Speaker 3: he's the one guy. But most of them have worked
- 13:04Speaker 3: almost all of them for Boris have worked out. What
- 13:06Speaker 3: what about bo? Bo has been kind of queerly quiet
- 13:10Speaker 3: even after the Bragman thing. I know he had the
- 13:12Speaker 3: meeting with the Phillies, and he had and he's had
- 13:14Speaker 3: some talks. But where does Bo Boschett fit Because I
- 13:18Speaker 3: think if you start looking at teams now Diamondbackscott arn
- 13:21Speaker 3: Nott or to fill their infield hole, right, so you
- 13:23Speaker 3: start slowly losing teams for Bo Boschett, where does he
- 13:28Speaker 3: fit on a team?
- 13:30Speaker 6: Aja?
- 13:30Speaker 2: Once again, I encourage you to read The Athletic, and
- 13:34Speaker 2: I encourage you specifically today to read.
- 13:36Speaker 3: The story of Las Vegas Athletics.
- 13:38Speaker 5: No Athletics, that's.
- 13:41Speaker 2: The Athletics, that is the sports publication that I work for.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Matchil wrote today was just published this morning about this
- 13:50Speaker 2: situation with the Phillies and how they seem to have
- 13:53Speaker 2: momentum with Bouchett Bashett and they are a team that
- 13:59Speaker 2: is not afraid to go along with players. They're the
- 14:02Speaker 2: exception to what Eric was just talking about. They've got
- 14:05Speaker 2: a number of players under longer deals and it's a
- 14:08Speaker 2: separator for them, and it looks like it might be
- 14:10Speaker 2: a separator for them with Bashett as well. They'll be
- 14:13Speaker 2: willing to go seven years perhaps for a twenty eight
- 14:17Speaker 2: to twenty nine year old Bobaschett, where other teams might not.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Now will Boston react and respond to losing Bregman by
- 14:27Speaker 2: going long on Boba Schett as well. It's possible, but certainly,
- 14:31Speaker 2: what we've seen from the Red Sox over the last
- 14:33Speaker 2: several years is that they don't like these kinds of
- 14:36Speaker 2: deals and the only one they gave out Devers was
- 14:39Speaker 2: an overcompensation for losing and trading Mookie Betts. So I
- 14:44Speaker 2: don't see Boston necessarily doing it. It's possible. They certainly
- 14:47Speaker 2: have a need for that player. They had a need
- 14:49Speaker 2: for Alex Bregman. And then you ask about other teams.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Could the Dodgers jump in, could the Blue Jays get
- 14:55Speaker 2: back in? Maybe? But if the Phillies are the one
- 14:58Speaker 2: team want to p only a handful, if the only
- 15:02Speaker 2: one willing to go long, then I would expect that
- 15:05Speaker 2: they're the favorite froubers chat and they certainly seem to
- 15:08Speaker 2: be motivated to do this. They had the meeting yesterday,
- 15:11Speaker 2: but by all accounts.
- 15:12Speaker 5: That went well.
- 15:12Speaker 2: These meetings always go well, and it goes beyond that.
- 15:16Speaker 2: It goes to a team that wants a younger position
- 15:20Speaker 2: player star they've got some older ones still, and a
- 15:23Speaker 2: team that because they've been unable to sign J. T.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Wil Muto might be willing to reconfigure its roster in
- 15:30Speaker 2: different ways with Bishett as part of that. So if
- 15:34Speaker 2: they get him, they probably almost certainly trade Alec Bohm
- 15:38Speaker 2: and then we see where they go from there.
- 15:40Speaker 4: This is called inside scoop and you're the ultimate insider.
- 15:43Speaker 4: So can you confirm or deny my theory that this
- 15:47Speaker 4: was a meeting with the Phillies, that the genesis came
- 15:51Speaker 4: from Bobachett's camp because of the lack of interest, that
- 15:56Speaker 4: the Phillies were like, we're done, and Bobachett's camp call
- 16:00Speaker 4: and said we'd love to talk to you guys, and
- 16:03Speaker 4: they were like, all right, cool, anytime you get to
- 16:05Speaker 4: talk to an all star superstar.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I don't know, Eric, and I will say this, that
- 16:12Speaker 2: would seem to suggest that theory that the interest was
- 16:16Speaker 2: more Bushette's than the Phillies, and that does not seem
- 16:19Speaker 2: to be the case. The interest here seems to be mutual. Now,
- 16:24Speaker 2: how it all got started, that I'm not sure of.
- 16:27Speaker 2: But as we've talked about, and as Matt has written
- 16:31Speaker 2: about in the Athletic, the genesis of this is the Phillies'
- 16:36Speaker 2: inability to get something done with j Tuumuto and a
- 16:39Speaker 2: desire that they kind of had anyway to do things
- 16:43Speaker 2: a little bit differently. Remember, they've had a great team
- 16:46Speaker 2: for a number of years now, but they haven't gotten
- 16:48Speaker 2: quite to where they want to go, and this last
- 16:51Speaker 2: elimination was particularly disappointing. And we've heard really for two
- 16:55Speaker 2: years now they'd like to shake it up, and this
- 16:58Speaker 2: is a good way to shake it up, right if
- 17:00Speaker 2: you bring in burshett and trade boem So to overstate
- 17:06Speaker 2: this coming from Burshette, I think would be a mistake.
- 17:08Speaker 2: It seems to me to be mutual. And you're right,
- 17:11Speaker 2: teams will always take meetings. I get that, but this
- 17:14Speaker 2: late in the offseason, why would either side want to
- 17:17Speaker 2: waste either side time?
- 17:20Speaker 5: True? True?
- 17:21Speaker 3: All right, Ken, there was a list we showed and
- 17:23Speaker 3: you mentioned him, JT. Real Muttu. Everyone, I'm assuming just
- 17:26Speaker 3: thinks he's gonna automatically go back to Philly, kind of
- 17:30Speaker 3: like what the Bragmant thoughts were before he signed with
- 17:32Speaker 3: the Cubs. We haven't heard much about him on his market.
- 17:36Speaker 3: What's his market like because he's been a great player
- 17:38Speaker 3: for the Phillies for a while now.
- 17:41Speaker 2: That's a great question. Aj and I'm not exactly sure
- 17:44Speaker 2: what his market is now. At one point early in
- 17:48Speaker 2: the off season, the Red Sox met with him, but
- 17:50Speaker 2: I don't since that he is a focus of theirs
- 17:53Speaker 2: right now. I might be wrong about that, but I
- 17:55Speaker 2: don't get that sense. Then you had other teams that
- 17:59Speaker 2: perhaps they traded their catchers, maybe the Giants, if they
- 18:01Speaker 2: would trade Patrick Bailey, then they would be a spot
- 18:04Speaker 2: for jt. Real Muto, But I haven't seen any indication
- 18:08Speaker 2: of that happening either. So you wonder the question is,
- 18:12Speaker 2: if not the Phillies, then where And I've been asking
- 18:16Speaker 2: this question in my head for a while, so is
- 18:19Speaker 2: Matt or Phillies writer. So is other people, and none
- 18:23Speaker 2: of us have come up with a good answer. Not
- 18:25Speaker 2: to say that there isn't a market. There's always a
- 18:27Speaker 2: market for good players. There's someone who's interested, but maybe
- 18:30Speaker 2: not interested in the price jt ul Muto wants, because
- 18:34Speaker 2: if that was the case, he would have gone by now.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And if he's waiting for the Phillies to just finally
- 18:40Speaker 2: meet his price, I don't know if that's going to happen.
- 18:43Speaker 2: At this point. We're sitting here on January thirteenth and
- 18:45Speaker 2: they're talking to Boba Schett.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Last one, where do they pivot to if it not JT.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Because there's not anybody on the market that's JT's caliber.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Do they make a trade and is there significant interest
- 19:00Speaker 4: in other catchers where teams will be willing to get
- 19:02Speaker 4: rid of them.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That's another good question. And Eric Victor Kartini as a
- 19:08Speaker 2: free agent, is still out there, probably more of a
- 19:10Speaker 2: backup at this point in his career. They've got the
- 19:13Speaker 2: other catcher machine or not him, another catcher, the backup
- 19:17Speaker 2: that they have. His name is escaping me right now.
- 19:20Speaker 2: They trade for a guy like Ryan Jeffers, and there
- 19:23Speaker 2: are some catchers who will be available in Trey. I'm
- 19:26Speaker 2: sure they can do some things along those lines. But
- 19:30Speaker 2: to your point, and you guys know this as former catchers,
- 19:35Speaker 2: there is a lot of value to JT. Real Muto
- 19:38Speaker 2: with that staff. In particular, he's caught that staff. They're
- 19:41Speaker 2: accustomed to him. They like him because he is one
- 19:44Speaker 2: of the best catchers in the game. He thinks along
- 19:47Speaker 2: with him very well. There's a real connection between j. T.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Real Muto and a number of their pitchers. So if
- 19:54Speaker 2: they do not sign him, certainly there is a loss
- 19:58Speaker 2: there no matter who they bring in, but I'm quite
- 20:01Speaker 2: certain they would bring in someone else.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Ken good stuff. Appreciate it. A lot to go. I
- 20:07Speaker 5: think a lot more to go this week, so we'll
- 20:10Speaker 5: talk to you later this week.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Thanks guys.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Where will bo go?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Nobody knows?
- 20:29Speaker 4: Apparently the song.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Continues, so John Hayman tweeted that the meeting went well.
- 20:36Speaker 5: When do they not?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Bashett admires first class organization other Plus's roster park maddingly
- 20:43Speaker 1: link spring proximity to home with the Phillies, need to
- 20:48Speaker 1: deal bowm do lesser catcher than J. T. Hayman, says,
- 20:53Speaker 1: other bow suitors, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers more.
- 21:00Speaker 5: What's gonna happen here? Nobody knows. Nobody knows.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Even Ken Rosenthaler inside Scooper doesn't know.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Of course, you know, I want to cue this clip
- 21:11Speaker 5: because my thing is.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Like, Okay, the Phillies they don't have an immediate fit,
- 21:14Speaker 3: so it kind of goes back to a cratz ass.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Ken is with Stott and Boem and Trey Turner and Bryce. Okay,
- 21:19Speaker 3: their infield is kind of set unless they make a
- 21:21Speaker 3: move of one of those guys, and then they would okay,
- 21:25Speaker 3: but then they okay. So let's say they do sign bow,
- 21:27Speaker 3: they move bom okay, then they BO plays third. I
- 21:32Speaker 3: guess mm hmm, okay, fine, but then you probably not
- 21:36Speaker 3: bringing back JT. So then you got to go get
- 21:38Speaker 3: a catcher. There's a lot of pieces of this. That's
- 21:40Speaker 3: why I asked the other day, where does he fit
- 21:42Speaker 3: on teams? When you start digging through teams without moves
- 21:46Speaker 3: having to be made, and there's there's that's where the
- 21:48Speaker 3: market is like, it's interesting, especially if he's not gonna
- 21:52Speaker 3: play short stop. Shortstop is a different animal, but if
- 21:54Speaker 3: he's playing second, it's a different market.
- 21:58Speaker 5: It is, but all of those teams make sense. They
- 22:00Speaker 5: just might have to do some maneuvering.
- 22:02Speaker 1: On the Phillies topic, the Phillies Show, part of the
- 22:05Speaker 1: Ft Network, discussed how this recruiting is being put together
- 22:10Speaker 1: by the Phillies organization and there are always players involved
- 22:14Speaker 1: for the superstars, but they might actually be pushing some
- 22:17Speaker 1: of their friends out.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I think it was.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Hayman reported that Phillies players have been texting Boba shit.
- 22:27Speaker 3: JT is one of the most beloved guys in that club.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Posse has everybody's back, I can't believe that sits well
- 22:33Speaker 4: with him hearing that.
- 22:36Speaker 7: No, I don't know if the players really understand that
- 22:38Speaker 7: it's an either or thing.
- 22:40Speaker 8: Necessarily. They don't care about that. They they think that
- 22:44Speaker 8: there's a good player out there to get they're trying
- 22:46Speaker 8: to go get it. I don't think that that's a
- 22:48Speaker 8: decision for them, and I don't think that they really
- 22:50Speaker 8: think about that. I know that is when I was
- 22:52Speaker 8: a GM I want to player, just wanted more players
- 22:56Speaker 8: to play with.
- 22:57Speaker 7: They have a better team, and I don't know that
- 22:59Speaker 7: they know who they know like all the ins and outs,
- 23:02Speaker 7: and it doesn't necessarily does it.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Preclude that's the real big question.
- 23:06Speaker 7: If they get something done with him, does it preclude
- 23:10Speaker 7: them signing JT. And that's like the bazillion dollar question
- 23:16Speaker 7: literally pun intended, because it's gonna blow a lot of
- 23:20Speaker 7: numbers out of the water for.
- 23:21Speaker 5: The Phillies as far as their payroll is concerned.
- 23:25Speaker 1: If they acquire Bobashett, if they sign him, they likely
- 23:30Speaker 1: trade Alec Bohm and there's a little bit of money
- 23:33Speaker 1: savings there. I'm actually still in the camp that money
- 23:36Speaker 1: does grow on trees. For Phillies owner John Middleton, and
- 23:39Speaker 1: that he would bring back JT. O real Muto and
- 23:42Speaker 1: sign Bobachett in the right circumstance. But for more, let's
- 23:45Speaker 1: go to our Pennsylvania reporter Eric Kratz to get his thoughts. Eric,
- 23:49Speaker 1: do you think there is any case where Bobaschett signs
- 23:52Speaker 1: with the Phillies and J. T.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Ro Muto also signs with the Phillies? Or is it
- 23:56Speaker 5: one or the other.
- 23:57Speaker 1: JT apparently does doesn't have the crazy market out there,
- 24:02Speaker 1: and he knows he's towards the later stages of his career.
- 24:04Speaker 1: He probably only wants to go to certain places. But
- 24:07Speaker 1: it's not like they're about to sign him to one
- 24:09Speaker 1: hundred million dollars. I don't even think he's getting fifty
- 24:11Speaker 1: million dollars. And again, I know this is massive money,
- 24:13Speaker 1: But for the Phillies, is it massive money.
- 24:17Speaker 4: When you start talking about that luxury tax threshold, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 4: putting them in the one hundred and ten percent threshold.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Boem will be a free agent after this year. I
- 24:27Speaker 4: think clearly, if something would happen with bo Bom being
- 24:32Speaker 4: gone and then you're locking down the left side of
- 24:34Speaker 4: your infield or even Statts, free agency isn't that far away.
- 24:38Speaker 4: In two years, you know, maybe bo could move to second,
- 24:41Speaker 4: Maybe Stott, who's been versatile, could move to third. I
- 24:45Speaker 4: don't know how that works in that sense. But last offseason,
- 24:50Speaker 4: all the trades about, all the talk about Alec Bohm
- 24:53Speaker 4: could be traded, could be traded. Teams are calling about him.
- 24:56Speaker 4: So I think they have a rolodex of teams that
- 24:59Speaker 4: called about Alec Bohm.
- 25:00Speaker 5: It wasn't the Phillies.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Actively shopping them. And to me, most likely situation, they
- 25:06Speaker 4: don't sign Bow, they signed JT back. Least likely they
- 25:12Speaker 4: signed bo and not JT. And so in the middle,
- 25:16Speaker 4: I would say second place, they signed JT for a
- 25:19Speaker 4: two year deal, probably somewhere in the thirty six range.
- 25:23Speaker 4: I think that's that's probably what you know. He'd probably
- 25:26Speaker 4: like three years forty seven ish. I think they don't
- 25:31Speaker 4: want to go that high. They don't want to stretch
- 25:33Speaker 4: it out too long. He is a catcher. But to me,
- 25:36Speaker 4: I think they need him back. Here's here's my theory.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Sign Bow, move Boem to first for one year. Harper
- 25:43Speaker 4: caught in high school. Have Harper catch for one year Boom.
- 25:47Speaker 4: You got your whole team.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Okay, now that we're playing fantasy Land. Now we're playing
- 25:55Speaker 3: dungeons and dragons stranger things. Here's why I think the
- 26:00Speaker 3: Phillies can sign both. What's happening at the end of
- 26:03Speaker 3: this year, CBA, what's more than likely going to happen.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I don't think that, Are you gonna say, cap No,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I think I think the luxury tax will go up.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Yeah, but I think the number will go up.
- 26:15Speaker 3: And I bet you there will be a provision in there.
- 26:19Speaker 3: And I don't know this, but I'm thinking this is
- 26:21Speaker 3: me spitballing here. The Union will go to the owners
- 26:25Speaker 3: and say to new CBA, everyone gets auto reset for
- 26:30Speaker 3: the luxury tax because you know, if you go over
- 26:32Speaker 3: it keeps multiplying.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 26:34Speaker 3: So if I'm the Phillies, I say, okay, we signed
- 26:37Speaker 3: bo we signed JT. We only have to eat it
- 26:40Speaker 3: for possibly one year CBA new one. It reloads the
- 26:44Speaker 3: luxury tax numbers and they're probably gonna go up. So
- 26:47Speaker 3: Boem's a free agent at the end of the year. Okay,
- 26:50Speaker 3: then they can make some other moves if they have to,
- 26:52Speaker 3: to try to clear some money up if they need to.
- 26:55Speaker 3: But for the next year or two years, they have
- 26:57Speaker 3: Harper schwar where they have basically the band back together
- 27:00Speaker 3: and you had boba shit.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think the league's gonna try and have stricter penalties
- 27:03Speaker 1: on the soft salary cap that exists right now, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: so there is concerned from teams like the Phillies that
- 27:09Speaker 1: who knows, maybe it turns into one hundred and fifty
- 27:12Speaker 1: tax on the dollar and it starts to get ridiculous.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Then you have almost a hard cab and the union's
- 27:18Speaker 3: not gonna want that.
- 27:18Speaker 5: I agree, but I mean just throwing it out there.
- 27:21Speaker 3: There's only certain teams that go there anyways. And then
- 27:23Speaker 3: the teams that do go there at times say oh
- 27:25Speaker 3: we got a reset, so they trade a bunch of
- 27:27Speaker 3: guys away, and then they rescind and then they go
- 27:29Speaker 3: for The Yankees tried it right, the Red Sox tried
- 27:31Speaker 3: it right. Some of these teams try. Now there's teams
- 27:33Speaker 3: like the Dodgers you just don't give a fuck. Yeah,
- 27:35Speaker 3: they're like, we make so much money, we don't care.
- 27:38Speaker 5: I like those teams, of course, but the Phillies are
- 27:41Speaker 5: close to them that they really go for it. And
- 27:44Speaker 5: that's why I don't think.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Dave Dombrowski has a history of and we kind of
- 27:47Speaker 3: talked about this on our production meeting.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Uh huh?
- 27:49Speaker 3: Is he goes long term to get these stars and
- 27:52Speaker 3: if he dials in on a star, he goes and
- 27:55Speaker 3: gets them. Trade Turner right star. But all these guys,
- 27:57Speaker 3: like if he believes in this guy's swerver, if he's
- 28:01Speaker 3: like this guy's a starring, can definitely help us get
- 28:02Speaker 3: to the World Series and have a chance. Here sht
- 28:05Speaker 3: us a miss.
- 28:06Speaker 1: He also likes to get things done, and this has
- 28:08Speaker 1: been frustrating because it's taking a while for them to
- 28:12Speaker 1: figure out the real Muto situation.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Hey, that's JT's right. He's in free agency.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Maybe a team swoops in, But I do think they
- 28:19Speaker 1: want to start getting to move on finishing up the
- 28:22Speaker 1: pieces of their offseason.
- 28:30Speaker 5: I told you we'll be back. Bet. I'm jam futures
- 28:32Speaker 5: regular season win total Mariners. We're doing ninety point five
- 28:36Speaker 5: because that's the actual over under ninety and a half
- 28:39Speaker 5: for the Mariners. Are you going over or under this year?
- 28:43Speaker 3: I'm going under. I'm going eighty eight.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Well, explain yourself. Why do you think that they will
- 28:50Speaker 1: slightly underachieve?
- 28:52Speaker 3: I don't think that the col will have as great
- 28:54Speaker 3: as a year sixty Homers is really hard to do again.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Their starting rotation started showing knicks last year, guys going
- 29:00Speaker 3: down in their offense. I know they brought back Naylor,
- 29:05Speaker 3: but they don't have Suarez there for n't less they
- 29:07Speaker 3: resign them. But I just I don't know. Eighty eight Houston,
- 29:11Speaker 3: I feel like might be a little bit better. Anaheim
- 29:13Speaker 3: should be a little bit better. Texas can't be as
- 29:16Speaker 3: bad as they were again.
- 29:17Speaker 5: Why, I just don't think they will be okay.
- 29:20Speaker 3: And so I think eighty eight is a good number.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Eighty eight probably might win that division.
- 29:24Speaker 5: That's true. Crat's where you're going.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I just don't think much is changed in this division.
- 29:30Speaker 4: I think the division is very similar. I think they
- 29:33Speaker 4: didn't get to ninety so I have last year, and
- 29:37Speaker 4: they're all because of the travel, I guess is the
- 29:40Speaker 4: reason they're gonna have swoons where they just just crater
- 29:45Speaker 4: like their East coast their East coast trip last year
- 29:48Speaker 4: when I think they came to Philly Atlanta played some
- 29:51Speaker 4: good teams, but they just lost every one of the
- 29:53Speaker 4: games and they look listless. So no, I'm gonna say
- 29:57Speaker 4: under and I think that I think I might actually
- 29:59Speaker 4: still pick them to win the division. I just don't
- 30:01Speaker 4: think the divisions changed that much.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I guess I was gonna say the Astros have added
- 30:08Speaker 1: some starting pitching depth, but they also are losing.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but they also brought into my Yeah, but I don't.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Think Christian Walker will be as bad as he was
- 30:22Speaker 3: last year. They have a four year with Korea. He
- 30:24Speaker 3: wasn't dead, he was, that's not Alvarez won't be out
- 30:30Speaker 3: all year. Hopefully that's a big one allegedly. So I
- 30:34Speaker 3: just think I don't know. I think there's some hater.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Hopefully he's back for the year. Bray you they make
- 30:40Speaker 3: some move. I just I don't I think eighty eight.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Is the number. Actually, this is the easiest way to
- 30:47Speaker 5: put it.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I know you're both probably not touching this one among
- 30:49Speaker 1: the many others that you really like or don't like,
- 30:51Speaker 1: because that's that's just too close. If you're if Crats
- 30:54Speaker 1: is in that range and you're feeling eighty eight, that
- 30:56Speaker 1: generally means look elsewhere. So anyway, let's talk about any
- 31:01Speaker 1: sport parlay boost token that you can get involved with.
- 31:03Speaker 1: On the bet MGM app, players will receive one to
- 31:06Speaker 1: start the new year off right. Maybe you used it already,
- 31:09Speaker 1: but if you haven't, you can add that wager and
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's got to be any sport wager to a bet
- 31:14Speaker 1: slip to activate the token. It doesn't have to be
- 31:16Speaker 1: obviously in a particular sport only you can combine a
- 31:19Speaker 1: little football, little basketball, a little hockey, and if you
- 31:22Speaker 1: win that wager with the token, you get extra winnings.
- 31:24Speaker 1: That's how the little boost works. You know, the deal,
- 31:27Speaker 1: gambling problem or concern, there's help called winning hundred Gambler
