- 0:52Speaker 3: Appreciate.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Well, Yo, what's up? I gotta say immediately, I told
- 0:57Speaker 2: my wife that I was interviewing you, and she never
- 1:01Speaker 2: She's thirty eight, I'm thirty eighth, and she never cares
- 1:06Speaker 2: about anybody I interview ever, but she like I was
- 1:11Speaker 2: just I was like, do you want to come? But
- 1:14Speaker 2: do you want to do the fucking interview? She's like,
- 1:17Speaker 2: I love John He's such an attractive man. I'm like, okay,
- 1:23Speaker 2: well let me know that she's not here, but you know, well, thank.
- 1:26Speaker 3: You very much. I appreciate that.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Yo, So man, how's everything been? Obviously? Man,
- 1:32Speaker 2: you're you're like I feel like when we think of
- 1:34Speaker 2: like nineties R and B, like you're one of those
- 1:36Speaker 2: names that is just like stood the test of time.
- 1:41Speaker 2: What I know, you just dropped an album in March.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that's been the latest and greatest.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You know, it's been touring around for that, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 1: doing mad shows. It's been wonderful to see people come out,
- 1:53Speaker 1: you know, and the shows are sold out, you know,
- 1:55Speaker 1: everywhere I'm going. So it's just it's still showing up
- 1:58Speaker 1: for me. And evidently we celebrating thirty years now, so
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's that's crazy. Yeah, man, it is crazy.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Do you feel like because I feel like right now,
- 2:06Speaker 2: even with like radio and like current music, R and
- 2:11Speaker 2: B is having a new wave because you have like
- 2:13Speaker 2: you'll turn on the radio and your hair like Keilani
- 2:15Speaker 2: Folded or like Mariah Scientists or Leon Thomas. And it
- 2:19Speaker 2: feels like the pendulum is kind of swinging back towards
- 2:24Speaker 2: real R and B and like records as opposed to like,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you know, whatever the fuck's been going on the last
- 2:29Speaker 2: like five or six years, you.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Know, right on, Man, I love that. I love that.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It's been kind of like a watching it grow, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 1: watching it grow, watching it expand I mean we had
- 2:40Speaker 1: to we had to experiment and change it, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and it always morphs into something, you know, else, and
- 2:46Speaker 1: so it was something else for a little while.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I think, right hip hopping and R and B was.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Sort of fused together for a little sure. And so
- 2:54Speaker 1: now we've kind of gotten back into the R and
- 2:55Speaker 1: B vibes again.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Which with you know, which is like love songs and
- 2:59Speaker 2: breakup song yeah, I mean emotion again. Yeah, okay, to.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Have like real shit everyone's going through exactly, And so
- 3:06Speaker 1: that's that's okay, you know too, you know, And I
- 3:09Speaker 1: think that the more and more people get in touch
- 3:11Speaker 1: with that side of things, then I think that it
- 3:14Speaker 1: makes the other side make sense as well, because everybody
- 3:17Speaker 1: wants to party to and just have a good time
- 3:18Speaker 1: as well. So you know, it's like you're either in
- 3:22Speaker 1: a relationship or you're not you know, and both are valid.
- 3:25Speaker 1: So I think that it's necessary to have both, you know.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And I've been able to fit into that category of
- 3:32Speaker 1: the relationships.
- 3:33Speaker 3: And the you know and sort of feeding that.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Energy back then, Man, like, what is the process for
- 3:39Speaker 2: you to get a like, you know, whether it's babyface
- 3:42Speaker 2: or whoever's attention, Because I feel like nowadays someone closed
- 3:46Speaker 2: that door all the way. If we don't, we'll hear
- 3:48Speaker 2: the plane the entire time. But I do feel like nowadays,
- 3:51Speaker 2: like we have like the Internet, so if someone doesn't
- 3:53Speaker 2: cover on Instagram or TikTok i, it's what happened with
- 3:57Speaker 2: Justin Bieber. And however, many years ago that was you know,
- 3:59Speaker 2: like it was a lot easier to be discovered, right.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So what was the process for John B, like a
- 4:04Speaker 2: young kid trying to make it in R and B
- 4:06Speaker 2: in the early nineties, to get a look, to get
- 4:10Speaker 2: a deal?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Man, Well, I had cassettes and I had CDs, and
- 4:14Speaker 1: I had my demos, which is like, you know, forty
- 4:17Speaker 1: songs on twenty songs a side.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Damn, you had twenty songs. I had forty songs on
- 4:22Speaker 2: a demo.
- 4:22Speaker 1: On a demo, and I was going around really shopping
- 4:24Speaker 1: as a writer and a producer because at you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: sixteen seventeen, I was ready. But you know, I waited
- 4:30Speaker 1: till I was about eighteen, you know, I could check
- 4:32Speaker 1: myself legally out of school and go shop my records
- 4:35Speaker 1: down in Hollywood or wherever, you know, And that's exactly
- 4:38Speaker 1: what I did. I just went to these labels. First.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I would make appointments, you know, with the label, to
- 4:45Speaker 1: meet with the NR right at the label, and then
- 4:48Speaker 1: usually it would be this type of thing where I
- 4:50Speaker 1: would show up and then the guy would like cancel
- 4:53Speaker 1: with me on the.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Spot, Yeah, like what are we doing here?
- 4:56Speaker 1: Like can we re reschedule? And I'm like, oh man.
- 4:58Speaker 2: You know, like but you're here.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I got and through the ringer a couple of times,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and then I got kind of got that attitude like no,
- 5:05Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not at you know, I'm not asking
- 5:08Speaker 1: for permission with this. I'm going in like letting them
- 5:11Speaker 1: know who I am. So I would catch him like
- 5:13Speaker 1: going on lunch break, you know, and the lobby and
- 5:16Speaker 1: be like, hey man, remember we're supposed to have that
- 5:18Speaker 1: meeting man I'm trying to be, you know, and uh yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 1: pretty soon I ended up getting in the right door.
- 5:24Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:25Speaker 1: The first first person to really turn me down was
- 5:27Speaker 1: actually Randy Jackson from I got into his door, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: the Sony door or whatever, and I was able to
- 5:34Speaker 1: audition and you know and sort of play my music,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and he was like, you know, uh, I think you're
- 5:41Speaker 1: more of a producer than a than an artist. You know,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I'm going to pass. And I was like, okay. I
- 5:47Speaker 1: walked out of there like all right, well, it's all right,
- 5:50Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. And I kept shopping and of course,
- 5:55Speaker 1: you know the whole Babyface story and all that. But
- 5:57Speaker 1: the funny thing was is that I ended up being
- 5:59Speaker 1: sign to Sony Epic, and then he ended up working
- 6:02Speaker 1: for some Randy Jackson ended up some working for Sony.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So when he saw that, you know, his like Tommy
- 6:09Speaker 1: Mattola over him, you know, signed me, you know, basically
- 6:12Speaker 1: said of course, yes, you know, and so it was.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Kind of like, yeah, I told you yeah, when you
- 6:17Speaker 2: got Tommy Mottola.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I saw Randy the next time. I was like, what's up?
- 6:20Speaker 2: You passed on me? Did he acknowledge it.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Like, oh yeah, yeah, he kind of like, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: all right, man, all right, I was wrong about you.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy. Is it wild to think, like, you know,
- 6:34Speaker 2: celebrating thirty years of bona Fide, which is crazy to
- 6:37Speaker 2: think that nineteen ninety five was thirty years ago.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It is wild.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, And then just being through so many different phases
- 6:45Speaker 2: of like how music has changed. You know, ninety five
- 6:48Speaker 2: some people are still having tape, CDs are getting introduced,
- 6:50Speaker 2: like CDs are becoming the norm, but yeah, you know,
- 6:52Speaker 2: and then the streaming era and the iTunes era and
- 6:55Speaker 2: all that shit. How is it like for you trying
- 6:58Speaker 2: to figure out how to like navigate whatever the twenty
- 7:02Speaker 2: twenty six landscape and music is because it's so much
- 7:06Speaker 2: you know, social media involved.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that we have more tools now and it's more
- 7:10Speaker 1: interesting now if you ask me.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I mean, the only times.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Wherever on the on the TV was you know, we
- 7:17Speaker 1: went you know, did the Soul Train, you know, we
- 7:19Speaker 1: did e ET you know, or the show or you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you did some sort of like you know, special guests
- 7:26Speaker 1: on MTV or whatever. There was not there wasn't a
- 7:29Speaker 1: visual medium yet like there is now, which is like
- 7:33Speaker 1: everything's visual. Everything's about you know, getting a full, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 1: picture of what's going on and feeling really what's going on.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So I think that transparency being able to to you know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: sort of take back the curtain for all that and
- 7:49Speaker 1: allow that to all happen. It's really a beautiful thing
- 7:52Speaker 1: because that's kind of like what we always wanted. Anyways,
- 7:54Speaker 1: we wanted to make documentaries and movies.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Right but back then, I mean, it's such a harder
- 7:59Speaker 2: thing to do back then, so expensive.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Well we would, we would, we would still do it.
- 8:03Speaker 1: We put the e p ks together, you know, and
- 8:05Speaker 1: talk about the projects or whatever.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And now we have a phone.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But now, yeah, now we have a way of doing
- 8:11Speaker 1: that just on the on you know right now. So yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 1: it's it's a beautiful time, I think for that in
- 8:17Speaker 1: terms of just all of the the information that you
- 8:20Speaker 1: get when you buy an album, if you want to
- 8:22Speaker 1: die take a deep dive down a rabbit hole on
- 8:24Speaker 1: a certain artist, Now you can kind of go through
- 8:26Speaker 1: their entire discography pretty quickly on on the you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: on YouTube. Sure, you know, so you didn't have that
- 8:34Speaker 1: option in the nineties. We had to buy all our
- 8:36Speaker 1: records and take fifteen minutes to open up the CD
- 8:39Speaker 1: because the plastic was wrapped up. Go through the booklet
- 8:42Speaker 1: you've got book yeah exactly, you know, read the lyrics
- 8:47Speaker 1: and all that which that part of it I miss,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you know that that tangible part of it I.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Miss for sure. I think it's coming back, though.
- 8:54Speaker 1: There's an art in that as far as making you know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: the jackets.
- 8:58Speaker 2: You know, the violent vinylin CDs are cut like CDs
- 9:03Speaker 2: right now, Like if you're going eBay, you'd be surprised
- 9:05Speaker 2: to see like some CDs are like sounding for like
- 9:08Speaker 2: thirty forty fifty bucks.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It's crazy, and it's nice to see that. You know
- 9:13Speaker 1: that people are taking, you know, taking the interest in
- 9:18Speaker 1: in vinyl again, particularly because vinyl has such a even
- 9:22Speaker 1: before you know that that was that's a special thing
- 9:25Speaker 1: to be. It's got an anesthetic too, it does. It's
- 9:28Speaker 1: esthetic exactly, is exactly what it is. It's like listening
- 9:32Speaker 1: to something that's been ingrained in something because it's literally
- 9:37Speaker 1: been the needle has been pressed down into the wax. Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: so it's been ingrained.
- 9:41Speaker 2: And there's something about just the process of like putting
- 9:44Speaker 2: the needle on the record that's it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And then yeah, and letting it, letting it, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 1: because it's given out that that music, and it's like,
- 9:53Speaker 1: I don't know the analog, I guess is the best
- 9:55Speaker 1: way to describe it. Because when you're listening to a CD,
- 9:57Speaker 1: you're listening to a digital source, which is.
- 10:00Speaker 3: It's like perfect.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Right when you listen to the vinyl, you're hearings little imperfections,
- 10:06Speaker 1: little things that just kind of sing a certain way
- 10:08Speaker 1: and it just makes you feel a certain way. So
- 10:10Speaker 1: I love that about Vinol.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Hey, we got to stop the interview to tell you
- 10:12Speaker 2: about our good folks, odd Socks.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Man.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Now these are the odd Socks basics, ladies and gentlemen. Now,
- 10:18Speaker 2: when I tell you this is a product that every
- 10:21Speaker 2: single day I'm alive for the last five six years
- 10:26Speaker 2: I have used are these odd socks basics. Now, what
- 10:29Speaker 2: odd Socks is doing is they're kind of reinventing the
- 10:31Speaker 2: sock game, if we're being honest, and the underwear game.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You know, a lot of times you'll hit Walmart, you'll
- 10:36Speaker 2: hit Target, you'll get some socks, you get some draws.
- 10:38Speaker 2: They're affordable, they end up with holes in them. They
- 10:41Speaker 2: don't really feel great. Not odd Socks ladies and gentlemen,
- 10:44Speaker 2: These odd Socks Basics are the most comfortable socks I've
- 10:47Speaker 2: ever had on my feet. Not only that, but you're
- 10:51Speaker 2: super affordable. Fourteen ninety nine for a six pack. That's it,
- 10:56Speaker 2: odd socks dot Com. And if you don't believe me,
- 11:01Speaker 2: sock check full. Wait that's the ex is on the
- 11:04Speaker 2: other side. There we go. Ah, you see that. Sorry
- 11:09Speaker 2: you had to see those white legs. But it's so
- 11:12Speaker 2: dope that you know, I get to push a product
- 11:15Speaker 2: that I use and that I love, so odd Socks,
- 11:18Speaker 2: they got the six pack of socks for fourteen ninety
- 11:20Speaker 2: nine a odd socks dot com the basics. This is
- 11:22Speaker 2: the future of socks, the future of underwear comfort and affordability.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I'm talking about affordability without jeopardizing the quality because they
- 11:32Speaker 2: are the most comfortable socks you ever put on your feet.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Ladies and gents and the ETCeteras. Got to show love
- 11:38Speaker 2: to the ETCeteras. We like all the stripes on the flag.
- 11:40Speaker 2: There are odd socks dot Com. Man, much love to
- 11:43Speaker 2: my brothers over there. Make sure you get some right now,
- 11:45Speaker 2: odd socks dot Com. Let's get back to the interview.
- 11:48Speaker 2: You also were very active there's this like era where
- 11:52Speaker 2: like these R and B supergroups start to come together.
- 11:55Speaker 2: There's like LSG, which that album is so far. Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 2: did anyone ever try to get you to do like
- 12:02Speaker 2: a supergroup with them?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Well, the closest thing that that, I will say, it
- 12:10Speaker 1: was a huge compliment to me, and but I just
- 12:13Speaker 1: I was like, how's that gonna happen with But I
- 12:15Speaker 1: was on a on a flight with Bobby Brown, oh shit,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and uh we were coming home from from a gig together,
- 12:23Speaker 1: and we started talking the whole flight, you know, just
- 12:25Speaker 1: chopping it up. And at the end of the flight,
- 12:29Speaker 1: he was like, man, you want to do a group
- 12:30Speaker 1: of me? Man? And I was like what. He's like, yeah, man,
- 12:33Speaker 1: this is I'm gonna call Johnny right now. Let's do
- 12:35Speaker 1: a group man. And I was like, because Johnny Gill
- 12:39Speaker 1: is like my favorite singer of all time, like right,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you know, one of one of the top, you know,
- 12:44Speaker 1: And uh, that's a good friend of mine as well too.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I worked with him in the past and uh with
- 12:49Speaker 1: new addition or whatever. Yeah, and so yeah, he calls
- 12:53Speaker 1: him up and he's like, yeah, man, that sounds cool
- 12:55Speaker 1: whenever if he's down here. I was just like that
- 12:58Speaker 1: life flash before I could see myself on stage with him,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and I was probably dream like you know that that
- 13:06Speaker 1: sort of came true in a certain way, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: but never you know, of course, nothing ever came of it.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But you know, as far as us working in the studio,
- 13:14Speaker 1: we definitely would love to all of us unanimously all said,
- 13:18Speaker 1: we'd love to get in the studio together and cook up.
- 13:20Speaker 2: You've remixed, You're done your own renditions of like some
- 13:23Speaker 2: very iconic records, whether it's like Michael Jackson or Marvin Gay.
- 13:28Speaker 2: When you approached that, like, first of all, how nervous
- 13:32Speaker 2: are you because you you redid the Michael Jackson remix
- 13:34Speaker 2: while he was alive? Is that right? No?
- 13:39Speaker 1: The remix?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yes, the remix, the remix he was alive.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yes, I was thinking talking about rock with you.
- 13:44Speaker 1: No, Yeah, because I redid Rock with You as well,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but that was after that was after his passing. But yeah, no,
- 13:50Speaker 1: getting to work with his voice first of all, just
- 13:53Speaker 1: to hear all of the snaps, and you know, acapellas
- 13:56Speaker 1: weren't too common back then to have an acapella, right,
- 13:59Speaker 1: so I would, But I was given the whole master tracks.
- 14:03Speaker 2: To two inch reels, especially like pop acappellas, like hip
- 14:06Speaker 2: hop acapellas you get on the viny on you for DJs,
- 14:09Speaker 2: but well, if you.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Get a acapella Michael Jackson's wort, no, that's crazy with
- 14:13Speaker 1: all of his vocals, like all separated, you know, not
- 14:16Speaker 1: just just yeah, it's well back then it was on
- 14:19Speaker 1: the reel, so it's the analog tape. So yeah, I
- 14:22Speaker 1: got my my Michael Jackson tape and listened to all
- 14:25Speaker 1: of the tracks and just kind of went through it.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And they said, you know, just remix it, do whatever
- 14:29Speaker 1: you want with it. But it's such a beautiful song.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I didn't want to sort of ruin it, so I
- 14:35Speaker 1: just kind of grooveed with that. And that was a
- 14:36Speaker 1: fun I remember that was a fun day because you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: people are passing by, you know, in the other studios
- 14:43Speaker 1: and what you're working on and just remixing Michael Jackson.
- 14:46Speaker 1: You know, it's like what the Door opens is Michael
- 14:49Speaker 1: Jackson's voice.
- 14:50Speaker 3: It's like Michael Jackson.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But one thing that was cool was he called he
- 14:55Speaker 1: called the studio and he's like, I love them, I
- 14:59Speaker 1: love what you working on. You know, I heard the
- 15:01Speaker 1: rough and I love I love it.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Oh.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I was like, thank you so much, you know, and.
- 15:08Speaker 3: It's such an honor to do this.
- 15:09Speaker 2: You guys shared people, is that right.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah? We had the same manager. Yeah, yeah, Jim moriy
- 15:14Speaker 1: and Sandy Gallant Gallan and Maury.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Uh the name of the firm.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And yeah that was cool to know that. You know,
- 15:21Speaker 1: he was sort of like a phone call away.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Did you ever meet him?
- 15:25Speaker 1: We did meet. We met at the brit Awards in
- 15:27Speaker 1: London and backstage and my manager's you know, his manager
- 15:33Speaker 1: brought me back. Yeah, Jim Morian.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I remember him being.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Like, we're gonna be you know, I don't have time
- 15:40Speaker 1: for this. I don't have time for anything, Jim, Like,
- 15:43Speaker 1: you know, like while I was in the room and
- 15:46Speaker 1: I was like, okay, I'm I'm out, you know, he's like, no, no, no, John,
- 15:51Speaker 1: It's cool. He's just tripping, like Michael, you have plenty
- 15:53Speaker 1: of time. It's like forty five minutes before you go on.
- 15:56Speaker 1: He just wants to get a quick picture. Yeah this
- 15:58Speaker 1: is John B. He remixed you.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Were not alone?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, And then I go over, I'm sorry,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I don't mean damn pose you know, He's just like,
- 16:07Speaker 1: oh no, it's cool.
- 16:08Speaker 3: It's cool.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Nice to meet you. I loved what you did. And
- 16:10Speaker 1: I was like, man, nice to meet you, and shook
- 16:12Speaker 1: his hand and we took the picture that that I that.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I have that I'm so grateful to did he did
- 16:17Speaker 2: he have like an aura?
- 16:18Speaker 1: He did?
- 16:19Speaker 3: He did.
- 16:20Speaker 1: He had this very very much like sensitive, shy, but
- 16:24Speaker 1: at the same time very professional. Let's let's get the show.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Let's get to the show, like I don't have time
- 16:30Speaker 1: for no extra like I'm and when I saw the show,
- 16:35Speaker 1: I understood why why he was so it was like
- 16:39Speaker 1: it's like a Broadway you know, musical what he was doing.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You know, it was having all these different people, So yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 1: there was a lot to coordinate.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I'm sure you weren't like a big dancer, right, not
- 16:50Speaker 2: at all. Well, that's what I was going to ask you,
- 16:52Speaker 2: because they were It's like during your era, there was
- 16:54Speaker 2: like R and B C.
- 16:56Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 16:57Speaker 2: But it's like, but that's about it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You ever know this, Well.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Did they ever trying to pressure you into learning to
- 17:03Speaker 2: dance like the label? Because that back then.
- 17:06Speaker 1: You know, the thing was they tried to get me
- 17:08Speaker 1: to work with choreographers.
- 17:10Speaker 3: But even the choreographers that would work with like.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Lorianne and big up Lorianne, you know, she.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Worked with me.
- 17:17Speaker 1: She's just like you just as long as your swag
- 17:19Speaker 1: is right, like you're right, you don't you you don't
- 17:22Speaker 1: have to do the dance thing. And then when I saw,
- 17:25Speaker 1: of course justin Timberlake come out and he was all
- 17:27Speaker 1: about the dancing, I was so glad that I didn't
- 17:29Speaker 1: do that, you know what I mean, because that would
- 17:31Speaker 1: have been unfair. Well, he does what he he does,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you know, and I do what I do, and that's
- 17:39Speaker 1: I dance with my fingers on the keys, you know, sure,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and that's and that's always worked for me.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like it's like because like you know, obviously
- 17:47Speaker 2: my era of R and B, where I was like
- 17:49Speaker 2: in the thick of.
- 17:50Speaker 1: It was like genuine drew Ill and.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Then you'd see like Usher and it's like these motherfuckers
- 17:56Speaker 2: could get down.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Unfortunately I didn't get blessed with the dancing thing.
- 18:01Speaker 1: But at least I can move with on beat on rhythm.
- 18:04Speaker 1: But that guys don't have rhythm, though you definitely have
- 18:07Speaker 1: somebody they got blessed with the rhythm.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You've definitely broken the stereotype for thirty years. Blessed no,
- 18:15Speaker 2: I just because because back then it felt like labels
- 18:17Speaker 2: treated artists more like like a package. So I wonder
- 18:21Speaker 2: if they were like, hey, you know, it'd be really
- 18:23Speaker 2: nice if you could if.
- 18:25Speaker 1: You could dance.
- 18:26Speaker 3: No, No, they never hit me with that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: What I was really trying to personify was what Babyface
- 18:32Speaker 1: did you know?
- 18:33Speaker 2: Which was which was which was?
- 18:35Speaker 1: He was the producer, he was the songwriter and the
- 18:38Speaker 1: singer yep. And you'd hear him on the backgrounds of
- 18:40Speaker 1: all the songs that he produced. So that was very
- 18:43Speaker 1: much like right up the alley or what I wanted
- 18:45Speaker 1: to do, which is hence the reason why I made
- 18:47Speaker 1: it such.
- 18:48Speaker 2: A point to get to what was it like having
- 18:50Speaker 2: Babyface as like a mentor because he's one of them ones.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Man, yeah, man, just you know, talk about already sort
- 18:57Speaker 1: of feeling somebody, uh, reduction wise, writing wise, relating to
- 19:01Speaker 1: the style, and sort of intuitively kind of you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: figuring out like how did he get that sound? All right,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna find that sound. Even before I met him,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I was, you know, already sort of studying his work
- 19:13Speaker 1: and him and La Reid and the production and how
- 19:15Speaker 1: they were doing it, and I wanted to sort of
- 19:18Speaker 1: be on that team of guys that were producing alongside
- 19:21Speaker 1: Dallas Austin, Keith Andy's and and you know and Darryl Simmons,
- 19:28Speaker 1: uh you know, La Reid and I mean those those
- 19:30Speaker 1: are the guys that helped him, and so to be
- 19:32Speaker 1: a fly on the wall to what he was doing,
- 19:34Speaker 1: whether it was watching him produce Waiting to Exhale, you know,
- 19:39Speaker 1: or Boomerang soundtrack or working with TLC together you know,
- 19:45Speaker 1: Tony Braxton's project, just you know, I started out to
- 19:49Speaker 1: tell you what it was like with working with Kenny.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Kenny say, come to the house man. It's uh, let's
- 19:55Speaker 1: see what's vibe at the house. And he has a
- 19:57Speaker 1: studio at the house and just on some actual you know,
- 20:00Speaker 1: come through. And then he plays me the track for
- 20:02Speaker 1: Someone to.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Love Crazy, and I'm like what this is?
- 20:07Speaker 1: He's like this for you man, and I was just like,
- 20:10Speaker 1: oh my gosh, you know, like I'm just blown away,
- 20:13Speaker 1: first of all as a fan to hear what his
- 20:17Speaker 1: interpretation of what I'm gonna sound like yeah is because
- 20:20Speaker 1: it just sounded so full and so just everything I
- 20:24Speaker 1: could imagine, you know. And then he's like, all right, man,
- 20:27Speaker 1: let me show you how to sing this first little
- 20:29Speaker 1: bit of the song. And he goes and he sings it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I said, okay, cool, I got that, So you want
- 20:33Speaker 1: to record it?
- 20:34Speaker 3: Cool.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I go in there and I record it. Then he
- 20:37Speaker 1: goes the second verse and he does the same thing,
- 20:40Speaker 1: but this time he goes in and records it instead
- 20:42Speaker 1: of just singing it for me.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And he's like, I'm gonna show you how it goes.
- 20:45Speaker 1: He goes in there and he sings the verse that
- 20:48Speaker 1: you hear now on the record, right, And I go, wait,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I gotta do that.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Don't just keep you on the song.
- 20:55Speaker 1: No, No, I didn't say that. I just did. I
- 20:57Speaker 1: didn't know what to say. I was like, oh my god,
- 20:59Speaker 1: he just bodied that right. And then he comes out
- 21:02Speaker 1: he's like he's like, yeah, I think we'll just keep
- 21:04Speaker 1: it like that. I was like, so I got to
- 21:07Speaker 1: sing that, and he's like, no, no, I mean I'm
- 21:09Speaker 1: gonna keep my voice on the song.
- 21:10Speaker 2: And I was like, you're gonna you can do a
- 21:12Speaker 2: song with me?
- 21:13Speaker 1: It's at He's like yeah, and I just like just
- 21:17Speaker 1: chills and tears well up and I'm like, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: I'm just kind of like, oh my god, thank you
- 21:23Speaker 1: so much, you know, and just.
- 21:26Speaker 3: At that point I just knew.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I was like, it's everything is extra.
- 21:30Speaker 2: For me as a writer and producer. Did you have
- 21:33Speaker 2: your own version of that moment with another up and
- 21:36Speaker 2: coming artist where you like they came through or you're like, hey,
- 21:39Speaker 2: I was thinking to you when I wrote this word.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Did that have any other expen like a version like
- 21:44Speaker 2: of like what Babyface did for you with someone, but
- 21:47Speaker 2: you played the record for somebody that you know what
- 21:49Speaker 2: I mean.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Oh, that's an interesting question. I'm getting to kind of
- 21:53Speaker 1: do that with an artist that I'm currently working with right.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Now, which is kind of cool. Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 1: She was born in ninety five, the year, but she's
- 22:01Speaker 1: been singing all her life and big up Shaye Universe.
- 22:05Speaker 3: She she opened up for me on my tour. She's
- 22:07Speaker 3: from England and really dope artists.
- 22:11Speaker 1: She's got a couple albums out and this new album
- 22:14Speaker 1: that she's working on. I was privileged enough to have
- 22:16Speaker 1: her come to the studio and work with me, and
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know, she just she's so easy to work with
- 22:22Speaker 1: because she's she's a writer herself. So we you know,
- 22:25Speaker 1: I cooked up the track and had some melody ideas
- 22:28Speaker 1: to kind of beat her, and we just kind of
- 22:31Speaker 1: wrote the record every you know, finished each other's sentences,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you know, and so yeah, that's gonna be a great experience.
- 22:37Speaker 1: But you could just tell when someone really appreciates the
- 22:40Speaker 1: opportunity to collaborate, because it's all in what you end
- 22:44Speaker 1: up doing, you know, it's in the song. It's like,
- 22:46Speaker 1: if it's a great song, that means y'all had a
- 22:49Speaker 1: great build and a great vibe and that's what you want.
- 22:52Speaker 2: You also are like on some legendary movie soundtracks like
- 22:55Speaker 2: Rush Hour, Oh yeah, I mean also some not so
- 22:58Speaker 2: legendary movie soundtracks Shout to Shack.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Really, I'm on that, oh yeah, Sam with everything everything.
- 23:05Speaker 2: And Shot to Shack. I don't know which Shack movie
- 23:08Speaker 2: was worse, because I think he was another one.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I had ad jay Z on there. Yeah, and Coco
- 23:14Speaker 3: from s w V.
- 23:15Speaker 2: That's crazy. Yeah what what what year was the jay Z?
- 23:19Speaker 2: What will years have plenty? How often?
- 23:21Speaker 1: That was ninety six?
- 23:22Speaker 2: So this was like Hawaiian Sophie Hove or was this
- 23:25Speaker 2: after reasonable that came after reasonable doubt?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Okay, this is right after this is Jigga. This is jigga.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Man, this is like the early I mean ninety six
- 23:32Speaker 2: is the your Reasonable Dot come out. So I don't know,
- 23:34Speaker 2: he's very much like.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Jay Z was was really really you know, dead press,
- 23:41Speaker 1: like that whole like the Dead President. Yeah, that whole
- 23:48Speaker 1: I mean, Reasonable Doubt was sort of one of my
- 23:50Speaker 1: favorites of all that time period favor album. That's my
- 23:53Speaker 1: favorite jay Z album. And just to know that we
- 23:57Speaker 1: I got to link with him, you know, he he
- 23:58Speaker 1: First of all, he freestyled a whole song. So when
- 24:01Speaker 1: you listen to that, it was literally one take, it
- 24:05Speaker 1: wasn't I mean, I remember him coming to the studio
- 24:07Speaker 1: and just listening to my track because I made that track,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and it was it was an honor to have him,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you know, vibe into one of my tracks, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 1: especially not you know, not a ballot track, but a
- 24:19Speaker 1: hip hop track, right. And I'm a big Premiere fan,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you know, from Gangstar Premo, you know, and so I
- 24:26Speaker 1: was trying to cook up like a kind of a
- 24:27Speaker 1: Primo style type of beat, right and uh. But then
- 24:33Speaker 1: at the same time, I'm like, I want to collaborate
- 24:35Speaker 1: with Coco from s W. Such a big sw fan,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and her voice is just one of my favorites. So
- 24:43Speaker 1: the fact that I was able to get her to
- 24:44Speaker 1: be on the record was like perfect. But then how
- 24:47Speaker 1: we're going to just step it up? And I was like,
- 24:49Speaker 1: all right, let me get jay Z. You know, we
- 24:50Speaker 1: said if I can get him, and he happened to
- 24:53Speaker 1: be coming by the Edmunds the Edmunds Towers, and he
- 24:58Speaker 1: came in and we we asked him if he'd be
- 25:00Speaker 1: down for Collapo and he said yeah. And then when
- 25:03Speaker 1: he pulled up the studio, he just kind of like
- 25:06Speaker 1: a man of a few words, you know, sat there
- 25:08Speaker 1: and stood there and you know, for an hour and
- 25:11Speaker 1: just play the.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Record just kind of and he's probably putting the whole
- 25:14Speaker 2: all I could.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I could hear his mind ticking and working, and so
- 25:19Speaker 1: at the end of the session he's like, all right,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna come back tomorrow, Lid is that cool book?
- 25:25Speaker 1: Another day? So that's way, you know, I'm at his discretion.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Sure enough, he comes in waste no time, goes straight
- 25:32Speaker 1: to the booth and lays the wrapping.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Was that no pan or paper, no pen or paper?
- 25:39Speaker 2: Was that the first time you seen something like that?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that was the first time I had seen that.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I mean, I I can kind of.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Do that with with melodies and all that, and with
- 25:47Speaker 2: melodies and lyrics too, I can freestyle all that.
- 25:49Speaker 1: But you know, when you're so sort of poised with
- 25:55Speaker 1: what you do and how you do it that there's
- 25:58Speaker 1: no explaining or no talking about I got that, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 1: and then you go in and you cut the record.
- 26:03Speaker 1: That's like exceptional. One take j Nick on one take Jake.
- 26:06Speaker 1: That's what Damon let me know. Because Damon Dash was
- 26:09Speaker 1: there and he was just like, yeah, don't don't worry,
- 26:11Speaker 1: like he's not even gonna write.
- 26:12Speaker 3: You're not going to ever see him.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Write, sit down and write, so like, yes, you're probably
- 26:15Speaker 1: like what I was like, Oh, okay, that's what's up.
- 26:18Speaker 1: He's like he's gonna come tomorrow, smash it, trusting, and
- 26:21Speaker 1: then after he got done, he's like, I told you man,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I was okay. But that's a real, real hot record.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I love that that songs called keep it.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Real talk to me because you have the you know,
- 26:33Speaker 2: the privilege of working with someone like Jay And then,
- 26:37Speaker 2: by all accounts, a lot of people say you you
- 26:39Speaker 2: were the last guy to record a Park.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Oh I was, yeah, yeah, two weeks before his passing.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Someone else who had an insane work ethic and by
- 26:47Speaker 2: all accounts, like everyone always says, his studio regiment was
- 26:50Speaker 2: just fucking crazy.
- 26:51Speaker 1: He told me three songs a day, and you ain't
- 26:53Speaker 1: really you ain't really.
- 26:57Speaker 3: In the mode that I'm in.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I was like, damn, okay, three songs, that's a lot.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I wonder, like I want to get to that tession.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But he ends up passing and then one of his
- 27:07Speaker 2: albums that comes out after he dies is are You
- 27:10Speaker 2: Still Down?
- 27:10Speaker 1: That's what his mom wanted to call it, because there
- 27:12Speaker 1: was the last song that he did. He didn't play
- 27:15Speaker 1: his music for his mom too much, but she because
- 27:19Speaker 1: she told me and we had a meeting at her house.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I was privileged enough to be able to be invited
- 27:23Speaker 1: to go to her house after the memorial that we
- 27:26Speaker 1: had for Park in Atlanta, and we chopped it up
- 27:30Speaker 1: and she was just like, yeah, he played that record
- 27:32Speaker 1: with a prod.
- 27:33Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:33Speaker 1: He really loved that record, John, you know, and he
- 27:36Speaker 1: was so excited about it because he played it for me,
- 27:38Speaker 1: like look what I did, Mom, You don't like this one,
- 27:40Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And this one you like, Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: this is gonna be something that, you know, something different
- 27:44Speaker 1: from me, you know. And he called it his crossover record.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And it was interesting because he's like, man, he's like this,
- 27:54Speaker 1: this record for you is gonna solidify you, like you
- 27:57Speaker 1: can go any any hood in the world. You good, John,
- 28:00Speaker 1: And I was like, no doubt. He's like, you're leaving already.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Man.
- 28:03Speaker 3: It's like three or.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Four in the morning, and I'm like, man, I gotta
- 28:07Speaker 1: get all the way back because I'm out, Like it
- 28:08Speaker 1: was like band Eyes or something like that, and I'm
- 28:11Speaker 1: in Pasadena, So I was like, man, I got to
- 28:12Speaker 1: get home. So but I left and I didn't know
- 28:16Speaker 1: that was gonna be the last time I saw him,
- 28:17Speaker 1: you know, crazy, give him a big hug and told
- 28:20Speaker 1: him I love him.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I love the record, you know.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And I banged that record over and over on the
- 28:25Speaker 1: with the window down on the way home, just knowing like.
- 28:28Speaker 2: We got we got one. Yeah, it's crazy, Like what
- 28:31Speaker 2: is your genesis to y'all's relationship? Like what kind of
- 28:34Speaker 2: kicks that?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Well, it was my man Beezo that invited me down
- 28:38Speaker 1: to the how do you want a video shoot? And
- 28:41Speaker 1: that was wild. They walk in, I met Casey and
- 28:44Speaker 1: Jojo there and and well it was Johnny J.
- 28:50Speaker 3: The producer.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Johnny J was you know, rest in pieces hint damn
- 28:54Speaker 1: as well. I mean there were the that was the
- 28:58Speaker 1: dynamic duo really was was Johnny Jay and Tupac. They
- 29:02Speaker 1: were always making records. That was his primary producer as
- 29:07Speaker 1: far as the beats, I mean, from how do you
- 29:10Speaker 1: want it?
- 29:10Speaker 3: To all eyes on me too?
- 29:13Speaker 1: You know, the list goes on, but but our vibe
- 29:18Speaker 1: was like instantaneous. I walked into the r V where,
- 29:21Speaker 1: you know, and it was like, all right, piece, what's
- 29:23Speaker 1: up man, you know, and what's up guys, swin tech
- 29:26Speaker 1: everybody there and uh and then he's like, what you got, man,
- 29:29Speaker 1: you got any beats or anything my beat tape, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 1: and started playing. The first song I played for him
- 29:35Speaker 1: was a record that I had an idea for and
- 29:38Speaker 1: it was called Down and Out on Lonely Street. And
- 29:40Speaker 1: I was like, I told him the idea, and without
- 29:43Speaker 1: even having to tell him how the hook like the
- 29:46Speaker 1: melody of the hook or whatever, he started to do it.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Like the beat.
- 29:51Speaker 1: The beat went like but boom boom bot right, and
- 29:54Speaker 1: then he's going down and Out on Lonely Street. I
- 29:58Speaker 1: was like, that's exactly what I had in my that's
- 30:00Speaker 1: crazy like, and so we were going back and forth
- 30:03Speaker 1: like already, and then Casey and Jojo they were like,
- 30:06Speaker 1: what you guys got going there? You need to take
- 30:08Speaker 1: that in the studio, make something you.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Know, really happen with that.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And so yeah, that was kind of cool that just
- 30:14Speaker 1: having that moment with him, and I thought, if anything
- 30:16Speaker 1: that was that was dope, you know, you know, let
- 30:19Speaker 1: the video shoot. And sure enough, two weeks later he
- 30:23Speaker 1: hit me up and he's like, I'm I'm in Van.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I just come come to the studio, come to d M.
- 30:29Speaker 1: And I rolled right out there, man, and I.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Told him what I needed.
- 30:32Speaker 2: You know that this ends up being the session, the
- 30:34Speaker 2: last session.
- 30:35Speaker 1: This was the well we actually I think we had
- 30:37Speaker 1: like yeah, that was that was the only session we
- 30:40Speaker 1: had was one day man. So it was the kind
- 30:44Speaker 1: of thing where I thought I might be the one
- 30:46Speaker 1: to cook up the beat, you know, I didn't know.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So I was like, bring my equipment, you know, make
- 30:50Speaker 1: sure I have a drum machine there.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I was saying at that point in time, what is
- 30:53Speaker 2: your setup?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Is it like three thousand rock mounts?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Uh?
- 30:59Speaker 1: You know, control older keyboard e roades, I have like
- 31:04Speaker 1: a vocoder, yeah, but I had all that, right, So,
- 31:08Speaker 1: but I was so I was ready to cook up
- 31:10Speaker 1: for him. But I was like, you got anything you
- 31:12Speaker 1: know that you want to play me, you know, as
- 31:15Speaker 1: far as beats, because Johnny Jay, come on, man, He's like,
- 31:18Speaker 1: all right, the first beat he plays me is are
- 31:20Speaker 1: you still down?
- 31:21Speaker 2: Crazy?
- 31:22Speaker 3: And uh?
- 31:23Speaker 1: And I was like, that's it, that's it, listen.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I'm going to set all this up right right.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And so yeah, we started cooking up on that and yeah,
- 31:34Speaker 1: it was it was like a three hour deal before
- 31:38Speaker 1: we basically had the meat potatoes of the record.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Jeez, three hours.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Like we were going just to for tat every other line,
- 31:45Speaker 1: you know, when I'd come up with the melody and
- 31:47Speaker 1: then he'd come up with the lyrics, and he'd come
- 31:49Speaker 1: up with the melody and I'd come up with the lyrics.
- 31:51Speaker 1: You know, it's like or you know, I'd start a
- 31:53Speaker 1: line and he'd finished the line, or you know, it's
- 31:55Speaker 1: just that's a real collaboration when you when you get
- 31:58Speaker 1: to build with somebody like that. And he was the
- 32:01Speaker 1: nicest person, but he was a no bullshit kind of dude,
- 32:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like if there's somebody was
- 32:06Speaker 1: being loud in the room.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Kick him.
- 32:09Speaker 1: He'd be like, hey man, you know it's John b
- 32:10Speaker 1: up in here, man, you know, And I'm like, what,
- 32:14Speaker 1: like he was really really down down for me?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Is the studio aesthetic like alice a bottles and like
- 32:19Speaker 2: chicks or like what is.
- 32:20Speaker 1: The mad mad forties and blunts and hennessy and and
- 32:24Speaker 1: just tons of hennessy. And I remember I was getting
- 32:26Speaker 1: lit and I started to mess up on the vocalder
- 32:29Speaker 1: little line.
- 32:30Speaker 2: You're drinking hey as well?
- 32:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and smoking and all that, and so you know,
- 32:34Speaker 1: as I'm vibe and I'm kind of like having fun
- 32:37Speaker 1: with it.
- 32:37Speaker 3: I'm like.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And he's just like, wait, hold on, stop the take,
- 32:44Speaker 1: hey man. You know, play that ship right, no one,
- 32:47Speaker 1: no hell hold on, no more hennessy for John, No
- 32:49Speaker 1: more smoke for John till you get that jont right man,
- 32:52Speaker 1: now play it right now without having to be mean
- 32:54Speaker 1: about it. He just like was like serious, He's like,
- 32:57Speaker 1: no bullshit right now, Like play that play it, mean it,
- 32:59Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I was like, all right, cool,
- 33:01Speaker 1: run from the top, and that's what you hear. Same
- 33:03Speaker 1: goes for the ad libs at the top. When I
- 33:05Speaker 1: hit the little high note, and he was like putting
- 33:08Speaker 1: pressure on me as far as to you know, I
- 33:10Speaker 1: want to I want to feel it from the first note, bro,
- 33:14Speaker 1: And I was like, all right, cool. So he's like
- 33:16Speaker 1: just that was his way of producing, was kind of putting,
- 33:19Speaker 1: putting you in that performance mode of like, all right, man,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna make this. I'mnna milk this thing, you know,
- 33:24Speaker 1: make it the best I can make it?
- 33:26Speaker 2: Is it like tough to work that record with him
- 33:30Speaker 2: not being around?
- 33:31Speaker 1: It was, man, it you know, I've I've learned over
- 33:37Speaker 1: years on how to deal with that because early on
- 33:40Speaker 1: you see this, I see old interviews with me, and
- 33:42Speaker 1: I look so sad, and I look so just you know,
- 33:45Speaker 1: just sort of disoriented. If you look at my old
- 33:48Speaker 1: videos or interviews, I'm very shy and very underspoken. I'm
- 33:52Speaker 1: kind of, to be quite honest with you, I was.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I have never really said this in an interview, but
- 33:57Speaker 1: I was very depressed really after that happened.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Yes, that was very depressed.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I was in shock, probably like some like the Weird
- 34:05Speaker 2: Survivors twenty.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Three, twenty three. Yeah, when he died, you know what
- 34:10Speaker 1: I mean.
- 34:10Speaker 2: When he was a kid five yeah, crazy man, I
- 34:16Speaker 2: can imagine, like you're like, you have to.
- 34:18Speaker 1: And he got killed. It wasn't like he died of
- 34:20Speaker 1: like some sort of heart attack or some natural causes,
- 34:22Speaker 1: like they took his life right, so, but it was
- 34:27Speaker 1: like so it was like almost like a like a
- 34:33Speaker 1: the way that he perceived his death and he you know,
- 34:36Speaker 1: he weretold about he gave foreshadow you know, through all
- 34:40Speaker 1: through his career about his his demise. And so when
- 34:45Speaker 1: when he got shot, you know, the second time, I thought, well,
- 34:49Speaker 1: because I was in Europe, I was in England when
- 34:51Speaker 1: I found out about it, I was trying to finish
- 34:54Speaker 1: up the last song from my album because that was
- 34:56Speaker 1: also one of the that was going to be like.
- 34:57Speaker 3: The last song I cut for the album.
- 35:00Speaker 1: And I thought, well, he's Tupac. He's gonna he's gonna
- 35:05Speaker 1: survive this again, and he's just gonna come back and
- 35:07Speaker 1: be like I've been shot yeah that many times, I'm
- 35:10Speaker 1: still here, you know. I just thought that there's no
- 35:12Speaker 1: way he's gonna there's no way to get this opportunity.
- 35:16Speaker 1: First of all, I was thinking selfishly. I was because
- 35:19Speaker 1: I was so proud of what we did. I was like,
- 35:20Speaker 1: I can't wait to if I show up with two
- 35:23Speaker 1: poucs on my side is over right?
- 35:27Speaker 3: Uh yeah, man.
- 35:28Speaker 1: So that was a huge, huge thing when they told
- 35:31Speaker 1: me that he had passed. Man, it was like, you know,
- 35:34Speaker 1: the my my entire sort of vision of what I
- 35:38Speaker 1: thought was gonna happen was you know, no, it's not
- 35:42Speaker 1: gonna happen, Like, yeah, you're gonna have to just hold
- 35:45Speaker 1: those moments in for yourself and be proud of that
- 35:48Speaker 1: in your heart, of what you did and who he
- 35:50Speaker 1: was for you at that moment. And then we lost
- 35:52Speaker 1: Johnny Jay, you know as well beat Maker Are You
- 35:56Speaker 1: Still Down? And we we had the privilege of working
- 35:59Speaker 1: in the student many times after.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Park's pat Yeah, he's one of the most underappreciated, like
- 36:04Speaker 2: underrated producers of all time. Like when we talk about
- 36:08Speaker 2: you know, we talked about Primo earlier. You know, I
- 36:10Speaker 2: just interviewed Lazy Bone yesterday. We're talking about J Unique,
- 36:13Speaker 2: and I'm like, unique, Johnny J. These are guys that
- 36:15Speaker 2: like we just just need more flowers.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they for what they did and that's why I
- 36:19Speaker 1: talk about them as much as possible.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Johnny J.
- 36:22Speaker 1: We did a part two that Are You Still Down?
- 36:25Speaker 1: Which was called Part two, and it had an old
- 36:30Speaker 1: verse of I believe it was an old record that
- 36:37Speaker 1: he had recorded with with with Pac obviously and uh,
- 36:40Speaker 1: but that he had never really put out. I guess
- 36:42Speaker 1: for some reason, they never really made the He might
- 36:45Speaker 1: have put it out on a mixtape or something, but
- 36:48Speaker 1: I had a different beat and the whole thing. So
- 36:50Speaker 1: what was so interesting is all his ad libs and
- 36:53Speaker 1: everything that we took from the record when we put it.
- 36:56Speaker 1: When we put it all together, it was like Pak
- 36:59Speaker 1: was in the room with man.
- 37:00Speaker 3: It was.
- 37:00Speaker 1: So it was such a great way to kind of
- 37:04Speaker 1: both kind of feel like he.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Was almost like a nice way to mourn too. It
- 37:08Speaker 2: was a wonderful way to especially because it's with Johnny.
- 37:11Speaker 2: It really was.
- 37:12Speaker 1: And even the ad libs though, the way it all
- 37:15Speaker 1: lines up, it feels like, are you still down? It
- 37:17Speaker 1: felt like he was in the room. And we just
- 37:19Speaker 1: kept saying that the whole time. Man, this is crazy, Man,
- 37:21Speaker 1: this is crazy, and thank you so much for making
- 37:24Speaker 1: this happen for me, you know. And so yeah, man,
- 37:28Speaker 1: when we lost, when we lost Johnny, that was at
- 37:33Speaker 1: least I could see my boys together, you know, both
- 37:35Speaker 1: both wrestling power together. So that's that's the beautiful part
- 37:39Speaker 1: of that.
- 37:39Speaker 2: So the nineties is like the remix peak where we
- 37:44Speaker 2: would get amazing remixes to songs. Was there ever an
- 37:50Speaker 2: almost remix that happened with they don't know that just
- 37:52Speaker 2: for whatever reason just didn't come to fruition. It feels
- 37:58Speaker 2: like there.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Was lots of remix is that We're done? Yeah, there
- 38:01Speaker 1: was like tons I did, and then there was one
- 38:04Speaker 1: that Soul Shock and Carlin did that kind of took off.
- 38:07Speaker 1: That was the most recognized remix I remember was the
- 38:11Speaker 1: Soul Shock and Carlic.
- 38:13Speaker 3: They kind of turned it into a little hip hop.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Like the remix era has got to come back, Like
- 38:18Speaker 2: we're like.
- 38:19Speaker 1: When when they used to do different versions, different beats,
- 38:22Speaker 1: different beats and just call the remix jagged Edge.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Let's get married? Oh yeah, Like the remix of that
- 38:27Speaker 2: song is like now it's a whole other song.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I mean yeah, I mean or like Biggie's uh you
- 38:33Speaker 1: know Juicy you know there's.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Like one twelve only you remix? Oh yeah, exactly, yeah,
- 38:39Speaker 2: or even like I mean any Germaine deprix, Like.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Uh, how the Isley Brothers record was used uh for
- 38:50Speaker 1: the was it one more chance? Right, Yeah, oh no,
- 38:54Speaker 1: that was the that was that was the Bunny Bunny
- 38:57Speaker 1: de Barge. But I remember that being so dope that
- 39:02Speaker 1: he did that because I remember there was an old
- 39:04Speaker 1: tribe called Quest remix of Benita apple Bomb that used
- 39:09Speaker 1: the Isisley Brothers remix and that remix fire. Have you
- 39:13Speaker 1: ever heard that it was Benita apple Bomb? But it
- 39:16Speaker 1: was with the Isley Brothers.
- 39:17Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I've heard it to it.
- 39:19Speaker 3: It was Fire.
- 39:20Speaker 2: It was on the scene check the Rhyme tribe call
- 39:22Speaker 2: Quest Man. It was Trive had some crazy remixes like
- 39:25Speaker 2: the Scenario remix to check the check the Ryme remix
- 39:27Speaker 2: one yea even like even like in hip hop, like
- 39:30Speaker 2: you would be like, yo, this is the Pete Rock remix. Yeah.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Well see, That's the thing is I'm a huge hip
- 39:36Speaker 1: hop head, so I always wanted to work with those producers.
- 39:40Speaker 1: But instead of getting just a remix, I really wanted
- 39:42Speaker 1: to collaborate with him. I wanted to write the lyrics
- 39:45Speaker 1: in front of him, you know, and get in the
- 39:46Speaker 1: studio and really have that one on one kind of
- 39:49Speaker 1: back and forth thing going on, because that's just that's
- 39:53Speaker 1: just the way I think the greatest energy is exchanged
- 39:56Speaker 1: that way. You know, it's not it's not a surreal
- 39:59Speaker 1: kind of virtual situation. It's it's a real deal, like
- 40:02Speaker 1: you chemistry. That's you know, it's like we were vibing
- 40:07Speaker 1: that way that day and that's the way it sounds.
- 40:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 40:10Speaker 2: So the album you dropped last year, Rick Ross was
- 40:11Speaker 2: on the album Alex Hizeley Doneale Jones, Who's another goat?
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah man tut to Donelle Jones, Donelle big Up?
- 40:19Speaker 2: Do you still because because things have changed right now,
- 40:22Speaker 2: it's like I could send you an open and you
- 40:24Speaker 2: could just record it at home and send it back,
- 40:25Speaker 2: Like are you still like trying as much as you
- 40:28Speaker 2: can to like work in studio.
- 40:30Speaker 1: With Yeah, well, Tank and I like, you know, big Up.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Tank track on the album album as well. Shout out to.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Tanks, him and Jay's podcast Fire to Man Rn't be Much.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I was on there and that's where I
- 40:42Speaker 1: got to play him waiting on You, the song that
- 40:45Speaker 1: he you know, collaborated with me on, and he's just like, man,
- 40:49Speaker 1: that that's it.
- 40:50Speaker 3: He's like, you're you're on the right vibe. He's like,
- 40:52Speaker 3: I need to be on that record.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I was like you want to be on this record.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I was like, that was the greatest compliment, first of all,
- 40:58Speaker 1: because he he's like one of the modern kind of
- 41:02Speaker 1: energies I've paid attention to over the years. Vocally, that
- 41:05Speaker 1: has really influenced me because he sings from a different place,
- 41:08Speaker 1: He has a different tonality.
- 41:10Speaker 3: He's full.
- 41:12Speaker 1: And I grew up with the Babyface school. We sang
- 41:16Speaker 1: very smooth and very you know, all the articulations and
- 41:19Speaker 1: stuff is great, but then that fullness, it's like a
- 41:22Speaker 1: different kind of strength, projection and all that. So I
- 41:25Speaker 1: think that, you know, you learn vicariously through people, and
- 41:28Speaker 1: he's been one of those guys I paid attention to.
- 41:30Speaker 1: So yeah, when we got to actually he came through
- 41:33Speaker 1: the studio, it wasn't our first time working together too.
- 41:35Speaker 1: We worked in two thousand and four. We worked on
- 41:38Speaker 1: My Stronger every Day album, So you had to get
- 41:40Speaker 1: to you know, get back in the lab though with him,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and you know, just he didn't want to change anything.
- 41:47Speaker 1: He's like, man, I just want to put a bridge
- 41:48Speaker 1: on it. It's like, oh, perfect, you know, put the
- 41:51Speaker 1: harmonies on there. He started playing piano to the record
- 41:55Speaker 1: in the hall way, and I was like that's got
- 41:57Speaker 1: to go on there.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Man, that's beautiful. What are you playing?
- 41:59Speaker 1: Let's record that right now, then play piano on there
- 42:02Speaker 1: and yeah, so he kind of put the bells and
- 42:05Speaker 1: whistles to it, and h then you know, I thought,
- 42:09Speaker 1: that's that's wonderful.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Are we gonna shoot a video?
- 42:11Speaker 1: And then he was cool enough to come through and
- 42:13Speaker 1: shoot the video with me as well. So yeah, it
- 42:15Speaker 1: really it really jumped the album off to a great,
- 42:18Speaker 1: great start, and I felt like it's the it's the
- 42:21Speaker 1: kind of moves I need to be making at after
- 42:23Speaker 1: thirty years.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Of you know, being in the game.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Now this is if you're gonna put something out, make it,
- 42:28Speaker 1: you know, make it something that's classic, and make it
- 42:31Speaker 1: something that people are really going to pay attention to
- 42:33Speaker 1: and it's not going to just fly over their heads.
- 42:35Speaker 1: And at the same time, I'm not a cookie cutter.
- 42:37Speaker 1: I'm not kind of like influenced by anything right now
- 42:40Speaker 1: other than the exactly what I told you. I was like,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I want to work with my boy Tank, Yeah, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: we're gonna just cook up and make a dope record.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Do you feel like now, because I know a lot
- 42:50Speaker 2: of my homies who are like quote unquote like legacy artists,
- 42:53Speaker 2: they're more busy now on the road than ever.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, because the hardest working guys in R and B.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Well, it feels like like older artists are the only
- 43:00Speaker 2: people could really move hard tickets anymore.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Like yeah, like in terms of like we have an establishment.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm sorry, no, I was gonna say, like,
- 43:07Speaker 2: is that something that you're just like, yo, like business
- 43:11Speaker 2: is booming for you on the road.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's really the main bread and butter really,
- 43:14Speaker 1: because you know, I will say the industry has been
- 43:19Speaker 1: completely changed in terms of the way that we monetize
- 43:23Speaker 1: our music, right in terms of like the way we
- 43:26Speaker 1: make money for our music. And I'm not selling records
- 43:28Speaker 1: anymore that tangible things. These are streams and you got
- 43:32Speaker 1: to have certain you know, billions of streams in order
- 43:35Speaker 1: to you So I will say the music is pretty
- 43:39Speaker 1: much for free, you know, as far as like the
- 43:43Speaker 1: that that aspect of putting music out and getting paid
- 43:46Speaker 1: for the music. You have to go out and do
- 43:49Speaker 1: shows in order to get money in this business. I
- 43:51Speaker 1: will say that to the guys coming up in the
- 43:54Speaker 1: game who think you could just put a record out,
- 43:56Speaker 1: You're gonna ching and you know, I mean, these days,
- 43:59Speaker 1: there's more opportunity for that to happen then there was
- 44:02Speaker 1: when I started, because you have TikTok and Instagram and
- 44:05Speaker 1: all the different social media and you know, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 1: platforms that will you know, sometimes turn.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Over a hit, you know for sure, and even like
- 44:15Speaker 2: maybe even taking a song that's X amount of years old.
- 44:18Speaker 1: And all and all of a sudden research.
- 44:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 44:20Speaker 1: It's so I love I love that about where we
- 44:24Speaker 1: are with the tools that we have, you know, as
- 44:26Speaker 1: far as just that that part of there's so many
- 44:28Speaker 1: different tools to be able to I mean podcasts right
- 44:31Speaker 1: here right right right dope. Aspect of being able to
- 44:35Speaker 1: do interviews, I remember, I remember the only time I
- 44:38Speaker 1: would ever get interviewed was that either on Soul Train or.
- 44:42Speaker 3: B E T you know, or mt V, t r
- 44:45Speaker 3: L or you know these places.
- 44:46Speaker 1: That where you get invited to go if your record.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Was you know, right doing its thing. You know.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So Yo, what was it like working with ODB? Yeah,
- 44:57Speaker 2: because you had ODB when he was when he was
- 44:59Speaker 2: you know, Dirt McGirt.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, that was right, that was right before
- 45:04Speaker 1: you passed as well.
- 45:05Speaker 3: I mean yeah, I mean just.
- 45:10Speaker 1: That was just Blaze on the track and I collabed on.
- 45:13Speaker 2: My favorite, my favorite producer of all time.
- 45:15Speaker 3: But really, yes, yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 2: I don't know what he's doing, but he sake, please
- 45:20Speaker 2: put more beats out.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, come on, I need that juststation.
- 45:24Speaker 2: I gotta get.
- 45:26Speaker 1: That's where he actually he put his his music into
- 45:29Speaker 1: the gaming.
- 45:29Speaker 2: And ah, I know so yeah yeah the I style
- 45:31Speaker 2: PlayStation controller.
- 45:33Speaker 1: That guy man was such a great collaboration because we
- 45:36Speaker 1: cooked up so many records so fast. It was like
- 45:39Speaker 1: we made like five johnts in like two days or
- 45:42Speaker 1: something like that. We were we just went, we went
- 45:44Speaker 1: hand and it was crazy. The song that we did
- 45:50Speaker 1: with Beanie Man, you know, h every time remix was
- 45:54Speaker 1: just as dope as the you know, the o dB
- 45:56Speaker 1: or OG version the ODB got on. It's the same
- 46:00Speaker 1: song every time. It's just we did we did a
- 46:01Speaker 1: remix for it. And that's an example what we're talking
- 46:04Speaker 1: about different versions of the song. You know, it's like
- 46:06Speaker 1: a dancehall version of the song. But yeah, I mean
- 46:09Speaker 1: ODB was wild. You know, he came in imitating my
- 46:13Speaker 1: ad libs or whatever, my melody. He's just like started
- 46:16Speaker 1: off singing just crazy. You know, the top business lugs,
- 46:19Speaker 1: this classic ODB. But I mean it was a dream
- 46:24Speaker 1: come true because I mean I used to just rock
- 46:27Speaker 1: his records, man, Like I would roll down the window
- 46:31Speaker 1: and head down to the Century Club when I was
- 46:33Speaker 1: twenty two years old, man bumping like oh maybe I
- 46:35Speaker 1: like RO maybe ro.
- 46:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 46:39Speaker 1: It's just uh yeah, just memories of of ODB man
- 46:43Speaker 1: being so like he was kind of like the h
- 46:46Speaker 1: the wild sort.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Of mascot of our time back then for sure, you know,
- 46:53Speaker 2: I mean always thinking about like his like the game
- 46:57Speaker 2: on Man Gone too Soon. I feel like he'd been
- 47:00Speaker 2: like he'd had a sitcom or something, you know what
- 47:01Speaker 2: I mean, Like yeah, yeah, like.
- 47:04Speaker 1: We're making so many big moves though to be you know,
- 47:07Speaker 1: like to have to still have a you know, a
- 47:11Speaker 1: EBT card or whatever it was, you know, and and
- 47:15Speaker 1: you know, and just being on Mariah.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Carey's I just found out all this and just he
- 47:20Speaker 2: told he.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Was huge, huge tours and all that.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I interviewed a ghost face like a couple of months ago,
- 47:26Speaker 2: and he said that uh Odib came to the Triumph
- 47:29Speaker 2: video shoot, but he wouldn't be in the video unless
- 47:31Speaker 2: they gave him fifteen grand and so and so somebody
- 47:35Speaker 2: set put a skullly over their face and did his
- 47:38Speaker 2: verse while he watched. Oh ship, that's not even him
- 47:41Speaker 2: in the videos. Wild.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's wild that that sounds like him.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Man. It was like, I'm only gonna be in the
- 47:46Speaker 2: video of I didn't.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Know the guy, you know, I didn't get to meet
- 47:49Speaker 1: him or work with him in the studio on that
- 47:51Speaker 1: Red Got It. But but me and just just that's
- 47:54Speaker 1: the story of me and just collaboration.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Just yeah, because around that time he was like with Rockefeller.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Day I got Yeah, because at that point me and
- 48:02Speaker 1: Dame had already been doing business because he got jay
- 48:05Speaker 1: Z to do the record from you know, Coco and so, yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 1: he was managing or he got signed with.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Simond Rockefeller. There was like that was like the
- 48:15Speaker 2: kind of the end the era of like damon yep,
- 48:19Speaker 2: that whole thing.
- 48:20Speaker 1: When we spoke on the phone, we said peace and everything, and.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Hey, we got to wrap up this interview another one
- 48:25Speaker 2: presented by hard Dan. Baby you already know what it is.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Shout out to Hardeen for presenting another episode of the
- 48:31Speaker 2: bootle Like podcast. Don't Forget when you're in Vegas, You're
- 48:34Speaker 2: getting that tax you getting that uber say, take me
- 48:36Speaker 2: to Harden, the number one cannabis dispensary in the world,
- 48:40Speaker 2: premium selection of the craziest gas you could ever ask for,
- 48:43Speaker 2: and then they break down all what all the turps mean?
- 48:45Speaker 2: It's incredible. Go to Harden Underscore Las Vegas, shoot him
- 48:49Speaker 2: a follow and when you're in Las Vegas and make
- 48:51Speaker 2: sure you shoot them a visit. So you have uh,
- 48:55Speaker 2: like you said, your hip hop head. So who's who's
- 48:57Speaker 2: Who's like your top five rappers?
- 49:01Speaker 1: Well, nas is my all time favorite, but.
- 49:04Speaker 2: You got to work with him?
- 49:06Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, and that was crazy.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I recently ran into nas In in London, came to
- 49:12Speaker 1: his show. He's got the orchestra behind him and like
- 49:15Speaker 1: it's like so Frank Sinatra, you know, but the MC
- 49:19Speaker 1: and just as far as mc in, there is nobody
- 49:22Speaker 1: who could touch him close period. I used the mind. Man,
- 49:26Speaker 1: he's a mind of hip hop, like he to me.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I grew up off of guys like Rock Kim, you know,
- 49:32Speaker 1: and and rock Kim was such a linguist and such
- 49:35Speaker 1: a rhythmic his cadences and you know, he would hit
- 49:38Speaker 1: you with with something that was just so dynamic and
- 49:41Speaker 1: so but it was also sort of the that that
- 49:46Speaker 1: that gall that he had with his voice, you know,
- 49:48Speaker 1: to keep it sort of so serious and sort of
- 49:51Speaker 1: monotone in that in that way, none of that. It
- 49:56Speaker 1: was like very serious, I'm gonna tell you like this,
- 50:00Speaker 1: you know. So my old thing was nas he he
- 50:03Speaker 1: he took that over in terms of like that whole mindset.
- 50:09Speaker 1: And in ninety six is when I remember him, you know,
- 50:13Speaker 1: ninety five I will say maybe ninety five.
- 50:16Speaker 2: Was when Bill Maddick was ninety four.
- 50:19Speaker 1: It was ninety four, okay, so ninety four, Yeah, I
- 50:22Speaker 1: knew it was right there because I was bumping that
- 50:23Speaker 1: that album when I first got signed. That was sort
- 50:25Speaker 1: of like you know, going to New York and playing
- 50:29Speaker 1: New York, New York, you know, like I mean, or
- 50:31Speaker 1: you know, New York state of mind.
- 50:34Speaker 4: You know, yeah, yeah, I mean, he just you know,
- 50:39Speaker 4: it's it's it's it's one of those things, man, like,
- 50:42Speaker 4: I mean, the collaboration between him and Pete Rock on
- 50:45Speaker 4: that album too, and you know Primo of course.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Then they just dropped the album, that Light Years album. Yeah, amazing,
- 50:52Speaker 2: fifteen years too late. It's been nice to get that
- 50:54Speaker 2: ship in like two thousand and four.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean he's you know, but to get
- 50:59Speaker 1: to sort of be this fan of him for so
- 51:01Speaker 1: many years and then get to actually have him come
- 51:05Speaker 1: to my house and listen to the beats in the
- 51:07Speaker 1: studio and.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Just be like, yo, that one right there.
- 51:10Speaker 2: That's got to be crazy having him come to the crib.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, because I.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Mean it's there too at the same time, is it
- 51:16Speaker 2: a separate thing.
- 51:16Speaker 1: That was a separate thing.
- 51:17Speaker 3: So easy.
- 51:18Speaker 1: And I hooked up in Chicago actually and recorded because
- 51:21Speaker 1: we you know, I let him know I wanted to
- 51:22Speaker 1: work and he, you know, he was cool with it,
- 51:24Speaker 1: and we made everything happen. Both flew to Chicago and
- 51:28Speaker 1: for some reason we cut we cut it out there.
- 51:31Speaker 1: But yeah, it was it was real. That was dope.
- 51:34Speaker 2: I mean, nas is coming to your house. This is around.
- 51:37Speaker 2: This is probably right before things get too hairy with
- 51:40Speaker 2: him and jay Z. I'm assuming it's that in that
- 51:43Speaker 2: pocket of time.
- 51:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that hadn't started yet.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but I was a huge fan of
- 51:50Speaker 1: like records like Black Girl Lost.
- 51:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and like this is by the way,
- 51:54Speaker 2: two thousand and one ESCO season. This is this is
- 51:56Speaker 2: not Escobar.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so so records like Uchi Wally
- 52:01Speaker 1: and you know it's happening. And but you know, Nas
- 52:06Speaker 1: was playing pool in my house with my brother when
- 52:09Speaker 1: I because I had left real quick to go to
- 52:11Speaker 1: the store to get something, and it came back and
- 52:15Speaker 1: and there's Nas playing pool and I'm like.
- 52:17Speaker 3: What's up.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Man.
- 52:18Speaker 3: He's like, JB, what's up?
- 52:20Speaker 1: And I'm just like, it's on some regular, you know
- 52:21Speaker 1: what I mean, just some regular like the homies.
- 52:23Speaker 3: Just came through.
- 52:24Speaker 1: And he was just very you know, it's still Nas,
- 52:27Speaker 1: but he's just you know, he's approachable. It's not he
- 52:30Speaker 1: wasn't gonna come out his back for anybody. And as
- 52:33Speaker 1: far as just like the vibe was very serious, but
- 52:36Speaker 1: it was.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Very very easy.
- 52:38Speaker 1: What didn't make me feel like uneasy or like, you know,
- 52:40Speaker 1: he wasn't he wasn't trying to relate to where I
- 52:44Speaker 1: was coming from. Because I was like, man, I want
- 52:45Speaker 1: to try to do something a little smooth, check this out.
- 52:48Speaker 1: And I played the track because I mean, the song
- 52:50Speaker 1: like Street Dreams is a huge influence for me as
- 52:54Speaker 1: far as the push of why I would do a
- 52:56Speaker 1: track like Finer Things, because I made that track, what
- 52:59Speaker 1: was inspiring that track would probably be a track like
- 53:03Speaker 1: street Dreams or or Black Girl Lost, but in that
- 53:06Speaker 1: in that vein that kind of pocket. And when he
- 53:11Speaker 1: heard it, he's like, man, that's like some male.
- 53:13Speaker 3: Shot day kind of vibes.
- 53:14Speaker 1: Man.
- 53:14Speaker 3: I was like, that's exactly.
- 53:16Speaker 1: What I'm going. Yeah, and so we we hit it
- 53:19Speaker 1: off and he was so professional when he recorded the record.
- 53:24Speaker 1: He first he recorded like a whole sixteen bars and
- 53:27Speaker 1: then he was.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Like, deleted, Man, I hate it. And I was like,
- 53:30Speaker 3: what do you mean, Man, it's so dube.
- 53:32Speaker 1: He's I'm a right again. Man, it's it's coming, but
- 53:34Speaker 1: that ain't it.
- 53:35Speaker 5: And I saved that John Yeah, yeah, it's deleted. Yeah yeah, right, no,
- 53:45Speaker 5: but you know, but that was that was That was
- 53:47Speaker 5: one of the best collaborations next to Tupac.
- 53:50Speaker 3: And I've had some.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Pretty amazing collaborations work with most Death, work with Yah, yeah,
- 53:55Speaker 1: shout out to most. We're actually gonna I don't want
- 53:59Speaker 1: to speak on it too soon, but we're going to
- 54:01Speaker 1: revisit something that we collaborated on back in the day. Oh,
- 54:04Speaker 1: they're actually gonna re reinvigorate that.
- 54:08Speaker 2: We're going to revisit that anytime we get new yahsing
- 54:10Speaker 2: Bee is a good good day ing Bee.
- 54:12Speaker 1: Yes, big up.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Eight you grew. You came up in like the wildest
- 54:17Speaker 2: well maybe not the wildest time, but maybe the wildest
- 54:20Speaker 2: time because well listen the fact that there were no
- 54:24Speaker 2: cameras in social media. I think you the groupies were
- 54:27Speaker 2: a lot more crazier back and what you have a because.
- 54:29Speaker 1: You are like a no, I'm not going to talk
- 54:30Speaker 1: about it.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Well, you're a sex symbol man, and so I groupie stories.
- 54:34Speaker 2: You've never had nobody like try to sneak into your
- 54:36Speaker 2: hotel or follow you back from a show or anything. Crazy.
- 54:39Speaker 1: It's happened, man, It's happened, and it still kind of does.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's it's a matter of just you know,
- 54:45Speaker 1: living with diplomacy and having you know, I mean I'm
- 54:48Speaker 1: married eighteen years now and uh, you know, happily married
- 54:52Speaker 1: with my children, my beautiful two girls, you know, well
- 54:56Speaker 1: young one's a young lady now in eighteen and eleven
- 55:00Speaker 1: year old as well. So yeah, I mean it's there's
- 55:03Speaker 1: a lot to live for, you know, in terms of
- 55:05Speaker 1: the realm of you know, having some self respect and
- 55:08Speaker 1: also respect.
- 55:09Speaker 2: For my mind for sure. For sure, of course, you know,
- 55:11Speaker 2: but what did it get to a point where you
- 55:13Speaker 2: realize like, oh, we got to get the security together.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Because it's never.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Gotten to that point. I think I've stayed too much
- 55:18Speaker 1: in my artistry bag in terms of like really about
- 55:21Speaker 1: my producing, really about my performing. Like people know, I'm
- 55:24Speaker 1: a real artist. I'm not like the guy who's looking
- 55:27Speaker 1: for that attention. I think when you're looking for that attention,
- 55:29Speaker 1: you'll get it. It comes, it'll come to you because
- 55:31Speaker 1: that's what you that's what you want, you know, sending
- 55:34Speaker 1: the messages out through the music to come come get
- 55:37Speaker 1: it if you want to type. No, my music is
- 55:39Speaker 1: much more relationship oriented, and I'm much more of a
- 55:43Speaker 1: of a recluse than I may come off to be
- 55:47Speaker 1: as this guy like that comes out of the club
- 55:49Speaker 1: and the glasses and the leather.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I'm in my artistry bag.
- 55:53Speaker 1: You know. It's not necessarily that I'm the guy who
- 55:56Speaker 1: comes out to socialize and wants to talk to everybody,
- 55:58Speaker 1: even though that's my job, and I sure do you know,
- 56:02Speaker 1: I love it. I don't take it for granted, and
- 56:04Speaker 1: every interaction that I have I try to make a
- 56:08Speaker 1: genuine one, you know what I mean, Even if the
- 56:10Speaker 1: persons on some just giddy, and I was like.
- 56:14Speaker 2: For coming to the show, try to put trying to
- 56:16Speaker 2: picture real.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I try to like allow people to have a moment
- 56:21Speaker 1: of my real, authentic self because I am so appreciative still.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Of you still get to do this thirty years.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you know it really means something to me. If
- 56:31Speaker 1: I wasn't a musician and I was only looking for
- 56:34Speaker 1: the fame and only looking for the money, then.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Maybe I might not be so for you know, I
- 56:39Speaker 2: crashed out already. Yeah, yeah, No, I'm in.
- 56:41Speaker 1: It for the music. I love the sounds that I'm
- 56:44Speaker 1: hearing still, and I love to be able to sing
- 56:46Speaker 1: and play and you.
- 56:47Speaker 2: Know, so like I said earlier, it's been a it's
- 56:50Speaker 2: like a great time for R and B again.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:52Speaker 2: Who are some of the newer artists or songs that
- 56:56Speaker 2: you just have appreciated just being being a fan?
- 56:58Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean on the on the mainstream level,
- 57:02Speaker 1: Chris Brown has been huge. Like I watched him sort
- 57:05Speaker 1: of like grow all these years, and to see this
- 57:08Speaker 1: new music that he's put out, I love that, love
- 57:11Speaker 1: what he's done.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Yeah. I saw his Breezy Ball band and I was tripping. Yeah,
- 57:15Speaker 2: and I only got to see, Like it's great because
- 57:18Speaker 2: I had it too as well. Yeah, I went. I
- 57:20Speaker 2: went in Vegas after the iHeart Festival, yeah, or the
- 57:23Speaker 2: iHeart Awards rather or festival, whatever it was.
- 57:26Speaker 1: He's such a great performer.
- 57:27Speaker 2: No, I only got to see like the second half,
- 57:29Speaker 2: and I was like, wait a minute, he's been on
- 57:30Speaker 2: for Yeah, he already was on for ninety minutes. Yeah.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy three hours, so it is wild. Well
- 57:37Speaker 1: that's what you do when you season like that, you
- 57:40Speaker 1: know what I mean, And you have all that, all
- 57:42Speaker 1: those gifts.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Now, I'm glad he did that.
- 57:44Speaker 1: He's stayed dancing gift okay, because that guy can dance.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Flying in the air, yeah, all of that. The flying
- 57:49Speaker 1: in the airpart is extraordinary though, because that's like some circus,
- 57:55Speaker 1: so you know, that's like level.
- 57:56Speaker 4: No.
- 57:57Speaker 2: I'm just glad because I feel like Chris Brown is
- 57:59Speaker 2: our generation's MJ. And I feel like he should be
- 58:03Speaker 2: like he's in the Goat Combo. Yeah, And you know,
- 58:07Speaker 2: I'm glad he like put it on the table and
- 58:10Speaker 2: said I'm doing stadiums.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and they and and why why.
- 58:15Speaker 3: Why mess around with it?
- 58:16Speaker 1: And you can do that and then sell every show out,
- 58:19Speaker 1: you know, and you know and how many hundreds and
- 58:23Speaker 1: millions of dollars that they come back right after that,
- 58:25Speaker 1: you know. So yeah, No, it's wonderful to see R
- 58:28Speaker 1: and B, you know, to how far it's grown, what
- 58:31Speaker 1: it's grown into, and artists like you know, Chris Brown
- 58:34Speaker 1: to be able to bring.
- 58:36Speaker 3: That to the table.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I mean, I will say I've paid a lot of
- 58:39Speaker 1: attention to the Weekend over the years.
- 58:41Speaker 2: You know, he's also Jesus.
- 58:42Speaker 1: And you know, it's it's it's the entire production of
- 58:46Speaker 1: what the Weekend brings. I pay attention to the tracks,
- 58:48Speaker 1: the mixing, the vocals, the lyrics, and it's what he brings.
- 58:52Speaker 3: To the table.
- 58:53Speaker 1: As far as that, it's I really think that he's
- 58:57Speaker 1: a wonderful artist.
- 58:58Speaker 2: He's my favorite non hip hop artists probably Yeah.
- 59:01Speaker 1: But I mean when you could do like a song
- 59:03Speaker 1: like song like save your Tears right and then still
- 59:06Speaker 1: be able to do like your trap R and B
- 59:08Speaker 1: like like timeless and stuff like that, Yeah, it's and
- 59:12Speaker 1: it all works.
- 59:12Speaker 2: And then when you did you get to see his
- 59:14Speaker 2: his stadium show, Yeah, it's like it's like different. It
- 59:17Speaker 2: makes you kind of like because like what he's doing
- 59:19Speaker 2: with Chris Brown's doing is different, but it's still very like, yeah,
- 59:22Speaker 2: you're like every the visuals are so well thought out,
- 59:26Speaker 2: and songs.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Are what you celebrate in that In that show Crazy,
- 59:29Speaker 1: it's it's the songs that you celebrate because he's just
- 59:31Speaker 1: by himself up there.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Just walking the States, so it's not a lot of dancing,
- 59:36Speaker 2: but he's got like the crazy like you know, chicks
- 59:40Speaker 2: behind him with the red ship on they're doing that thing.
- 59:42Speaker 1: You know. It's it's uh, yeah, it's it was cool.
- 59:45Speaker 3: That was the loudest show I've ever been to.
- 59:47Speaker 2: It.
- 59:47Speaker 3: We'll say, man, that was like so loud.
- 59:49Speaker 2: I was like, and he's like the nicest dude ever cool.
- 59:52Speaker 3: I've never met anyone.
- 59:53Speaker 2: He's He's so cool.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Man.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I'm featured on on his new album, which is kind
- 59:58Speaker 1: of cool. They sampled someone to Love they did yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: and it was cool, Like they hit me up and
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: they're like, we we pitched it up, so you know,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: but I said, oh.
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: Let me hear it.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: I think that's the best album and that Hurry Up
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: Tomorrow that ship is I think it was like my
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: number three. I think my number one album of the
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: year was Clips and then it was Freddie Gibbs and Alchemists,
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: and then it was The Weekend. That Weekend album was
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: crazy Man. Yeah, it's like good shrewd music on there too.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Hey love mushrooms, so you could throw some fucking throw
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: that Weekend on and just trip balls.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: But no, I think I also think the ladies are
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: killing it, like on R and B tip, I feel
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: like women are running shit right now, Like shout out
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: to Summer Walker and Maria's killing it.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Yeah, she's dope.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Cali UCI's is one of my favorites. I would love
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to collaborate with her. I mean, you know, Ari Lennox Is,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: She's incredible. You know.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: I love to collaborate with all of them, you know.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: But I've actually ran into Ari before, and we you know,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: we've both expressed.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: I ran into seven eleven on Kuwanga and Magnolia randomly
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: at like four in the morning, but she was making
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: a coffee. I was like, are you so sweet?
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: She hit me for my birthday and said happy birthday.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: So I just think that's cool, Like no other artist
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: like reached out to me and she did, and that
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: was kind of that's super random.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: But I was like, whoa what are.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: You already I mean, I I mean, look, the album
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: dropped March of last year, so I'm assuming you're already
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: working on the next thing.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you know, we kind of we're gonna do
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: the European leg of my tour for this album. We've
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: been doing the thirty year anniversary of my first album, Yeah,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: bona fide, and that's what's been keeping me busy for
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the most part with the touring. And we're kind of
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: calming down a little bit right now, going through some
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: renovations at home with my studio completely studio, Yeah, making.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: A brand new studio.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: So that's kind of put me in a creative height
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: right now, kind of downtime right now, but at the
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: same time, still producing, working on different projects.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Universe is one of the coming up on thirty years
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: of the second album, right, which is like your biggest album.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, that's that's the one that we're gonna.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: We're gonna, you know, I really want to get into
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: the idea of putting out my original music myself independently, and.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I just had this talk with Lazy Bone
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: last night because he was telling how they don't own
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: their masters, and I was like, look, I know there's
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: a lot of moving parts with bone dugs and harmony
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: for we all know.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Yeah, if you guys could all just come together and
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: re record all of your shit or do like a
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: like an unplugged version you guys own masters. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: like with that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Well, the thing is is that now it's it it
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: you know it's possible to you should do a third
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: reissue to reissue records. I was gonna saying we remaster
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: them and then reissue.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: When you celebrate the thirty years of the second album,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: you should go do a tiny desk.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Oh, that'd be nice.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like a John B tiny I love
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: that crazy, I love that.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't done that yet, so that'd be probably. Yeah,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: that'd be viral without a doubt.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Well, ship man, thanks for coming through.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: Absolutely man, my pleasure.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: You gotta check it up with you. Yeah. Man, you're
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: on the road. When when you going to Europe?
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: So Europe is happening in spring, and yes it's we're
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: going to England, We're going to Paris, We're going to Germany.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: It's stanbul shout out to Turkey. Man, go get you
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: a hair job out you don't need it.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Yeah, We're going to a lot of different places. But yeah,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I got a show coming up in LA Actually is
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: it next week?
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: Next week?
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: On the seveneventeenth Saturday. Next Saturday, we're at the Regent
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Regent Do you do the whole over to my wife
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: right now? She's she's got the other half of my brain.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I get it, man, Yeah, no, it's.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: We're excited about the show. Got my man Sebastian Michael
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: on there as.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Well, special money, a special special. I was like special somebody, No, no,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Sebastian Michael. Yes, no, he is super dope, you know,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: another self contained artist that writes his own stuff and
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: plays roads, plays keys, and so I'm excited man, because
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: that's I always love to have, like a a night
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: where somebody warms up the vibes and getting.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Writes, everybody going and yeah, he's he's doing his thing.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: What is your biggest market? Would you say? Outside? Like
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: like out outside of you know, home here in l A.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: But like, is there like a city that just.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I mean everywhere it's been so supportive, So it's kind
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: of really at this point everything is hard to say.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I mean, it's because when you have sold out shows
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: that I don't mean to brag about it right now,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: but it's it's a wonderful thing to see my can.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: You see like on the streaming side of who who
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: streams the most? On the back end, like, I don't
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: know what.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: The UK the Bay has been.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: You're definitely, yeah, for sure, like Oakland's finest over here.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: He's like you damn right, represent But I mean, you.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Know it's weird. I mean New York and in all
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: of the East Coast too as well. It's been I
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: mean DC, I mean it's been. It's been crazy. I've been,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: you know, it's all of the shows. Atlanta has been incredible,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: incredibly supportive this year with this new album, you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: so it's it's really hard to say. Man, it's just
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: love everywhere, and that's one thing I'm just so blessed
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: to continue to not only love it myself, but to
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: see that the people didn't forget about me.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: Last question in twenty twenty six, if you could do
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: a collab album with anybody rapper or singer, who would
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: be Ooh.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: That's a hard one.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Damn hmm. Well, I just just because I'd love to
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: see what it would be, because I know it would
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: be epic.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Would be me and eminem. Oh, that would be really
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: that would be really dope.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: One might argue two of the greats in each of
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: your fields that happened to be Vanilla.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Well that part too, I mean that's not that that's
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: that's that's.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: It'd be the Caucasian version of the best of both worlds. Yeah,
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: oh my god, that'd go crazy.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I mean that's a no brainer. But I think that
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: his creative you know, his his know how, his skill.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: But then also like how deep he goes into writing
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: his records reminds me of part.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's he's very like for like, I have a
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: lot of homies who've had the opportunity to work with
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: him in the studio. Like yell from those guys, and
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: they just say, like he treats the studio sessions like
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: like it's like special ops training, you know what. I'm like,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: you know, the session ends at five pm because I
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: have to go in with my family, so we're not
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: here to funk around. That's what's up.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Love working in the day. That's a weird thing for people.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Sometimes a lot of a lot of night owls in
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: this business. And I used to be like that too,
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: But as you have families, you know.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you don't want to get to seven am.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I want to start at eleven in the morning.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: That's why I don't want it's a good part like
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: one o'clock for sure.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd like to get get going real quick and
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: then then you have that fresh energy too as well.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: John B. M and M album coming soon, that'd be nice.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I'm kidding. We'll just put in the world.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Hey, let's just get a jont that's all.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Put it out there.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Malet's get a song together. That'd be incredible.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Well, appreciate you coming in, hang man, thank you, John B.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Shad you there it is
