Latest / AG Bull / AG Squawk AM 9/21/2026 with Jed Sidwell | GRAIN RALLY and Cattle on Feed
Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here live from Colorado this morning.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to be talking about this action that we've been seeing in corn.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: We had a cattle on feed report come out on Friday, and there's been an increase in the price of Bitcoin.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Kind of waiting for that report to come out.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Live cattle closed at$215.93, up a dollar and twenty eight, or up twenty-eight cents, excuse me.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle closed at 223 and a half, down 88 cents.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were up 80 cents at 78 and a dime.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like to shout out our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, November soybeans are right now trading at 1313 and a half corn after that big rally.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: A big rally in all of the grains.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: On the weather discussion for today, we've seen a vastly improved harvest window for the Eastern Corn Belt.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And that's obviously the stuff in yellow there with minimal rainfall expected for at least a week and put into potentially next 11 to 15 day window or period, however you want to put it, while the western corn belt is stuck in above normal precipitation while harvest delays.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: But on the flip side of that, you can say, well, harvest is delayed in those areas.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: But looking on the positive side, it is rain for winter wheat planting, which is going to be great for Kansas and parts of Oklahoma where it's been remarkably dry.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: On to the grain market discussion.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: This I mean chart is absolutely crazy.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Of course, that giant spike up there in corn is where the market opened last night, a huge rally.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I think as we're starting to slowly work into these fields, we're finding that yields maybe aren't what we thought they once were, not to mention, I mean, just the price of oil and energy and diesel right now has an effect on all of these grain markets, and I think that's shining through.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: On the livestock marketing kind of discussion, Cattle on Feed Marketings came out last week, and marketings hit a record small August pace of a 13.66% of the August 1 inventory that it no longer offsets the placement shortfall.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: This means that Mike and I, Mike Sands and I are going to have a heck of a conversation tomorrow to talk about with this cattle on feed report and the Fat Tuesday show because there's so many things that are affected by this record front-end supply.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: If we sent less cattle to the feed yard and still, you know, didn't put a lot of cattle on feed, but still put on more than we sent out, at some point the cattle feeder is going to be limited in their marketing flexibility.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: On the outside market discussion for today, Bitcoin hit the highest level since January at$85,000 as the market debates whether crypto winter is over.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Matt Hugan, the CIO of Bitwise, told CNBC the crypto winter is over, and investors may witness the strongest and longest running bull market in crypto's history.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: That's purely speculative.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: That's what the CIO of Bitwise said.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: But as we know, and as we have on always running at the bottom of our show, let me put it up, trading futures and options involves risks and is not suitable for everyone.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Past profits are not necessarily indicative of future success.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: The price rises comes as a Senate last week voted to block the Clarity Act, a piece of legislation from advancing.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And it is something that, you know, is traded every single day.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: And you know, it maybe lost the hype or popularity that it once had when it was this new shiny thing.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people got scared away from crypto for a little while.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: But it'll be interesting to watch to see if this quote unquote crypto winter is over.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar for today, export inspections come out at 10 a.m.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Crop progress comes out at 3.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Those are both central time.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: And make sure to catch Ag Squawk wherever possible.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: We had some great shows on Friday and Sunday, both with Wiesmeyer.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: We had a crossover episode between Wiesmeyer's Perspectives and Ag Squawk in the afternoon with Davis Michelson.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: That one's a great listen, as well as just the normal Wiesmeyer's perspectives this past weekend.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Make sure and tune in tomorrow for the Fat Tuesday show with Mr.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Him and I do it every single week on the premium side.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Every now and then we let one free to the public, but you can catch it every single week.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: It's$25 a month or$250 annually.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: There is a long list of things that you get with that subscription.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching and thank you for listening.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: I'll talk to you all tomorrow.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Have a great day.
